https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maskedsingeruk_badger.jpg

Ranking: 2nd Place
Real Identity: Ne-Yo
Songs sung:
"Feeling Good" by Nina Simone
"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith
"Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson
"Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus
"Grease" by Frankie Valli
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana
"Believer" by Imagine Dragons
"Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus (Finale reprise)

  • Badass Biker: There's no denying how awesome Badger looks in his leather biker getup. His rock and roll performances only emphasise how cool he is.
  • Bad Guy Bar: Badger performs "Feeling Good" outside of a seedy biker bar.
  • Bad Ol' Badger: Not a villain per se, but his punkish attire suggests he's a bad boy.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • References to hats frequently appeared in Badger's clues. This is referring to Ne-Yo's tendency to appear in public wearing a hat. He even has a hat on under the mask!
    • In the clue packages, we see an oil can and an Australian hat. Ne-Yo played the Tin Man in the 2015 TV version of The Wiz.
    • Claimed to "See things in a virtual world." He took his stage name from The Matrix protagonist Neo.
    • His clue song in Episode 5 is "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson. Ne-Yo also has a song of the same name.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Wears a full biker ensemble with a leather jacket, pants and boots.

    Sausage
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maskedsingeruk_sausage.jpg

Ranking: Series Champion
Real Identity: Joss Stone
Songs sung:
"Skin" by Rag'n'Bone Man
"And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" by Jennifer Hudson
"Don't Let Go (Love)" by En Vogue (Sing-Off)
"All Around the World" by Lisa Stansfield
"I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor
"Good as Hell" by Lizzo
"Rise Up" by Andra Day
"I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" by Whitney Houston
"Rise Up" by Andra Day (Finale reprise)

  • Anthropomorphic Food: Sausage's costume is a sausage inside a cone of chips (or fries, if you’re from the US).
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: Close ups of her costume show that the chips/fries are made from sparkly material.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Sausage sung "All Around the World" as a nod to the fact that Joss Stone had performed in almost every country in the world.
    • Sausage claims "Someone once said I looked like a horse". She played Anne of Cleves, The "Flanders Mare" in The Tudors
    • Dover sole is seen on the menu of the chip shop in her VT. She’s a soul singer from Dover.
    • Proclaims that she’s “actually plant based.” Joss is a vegetarian.
  • Furry Reminder: In the short clips shown before the clue packages are played, Sausage's edible nature is played upon. In one clip, the security team are approaching her with forks in hand; and in another, to Sausage's horror, the team are eating hotdogs in front of her.
  • Genki Girl: She expresses excitement a lot between her performances, most notably when she makes it into the final.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: Joss Stone was 6 months pregnant by the end of the competition, so a giant curve hiding outfit just worked best for her.
  • Perpetual Smiler: This is Sausage's default expression.
  • Pregnant Badass: Won the series while she was carrying her first child.
  • Punny Headlines: The newspaper that makes up Sausage's cone has several sausage-themed puns on it. The headline changes each episode Sausage appears in, reflecting her last performance.
  • Red Herring: Had two of the most successful examples in the show.
    • During the Two Lies and A Truth section, the judges focused on the first two potential clues, "My Hair Color is Certified by Law" and "Louis Walsh once said "I look like a pop star. I sound like a popstar. I am a popstar". As a result of these, Legally Blonde star Sheridan Smith and The X Factor finalist Stacey Solomon became the two most popular guesses for Sausage, but both those clues turned out to be lies. The third clue "I owe my career to a horse" was ignored, but it turned out to be the true clue. When Joss Stone was 13 years old, she won a TV talent show which she entered in order to raise money to buy a horse.
    • Later in the competition, she claimed "Someone has already mentioned my name". This lead to the judges sticking with their previous guesses, but Joss Stone's name had been mentioned when guessing the identity of other acts, specifically Butterly and Harlequin.
    • They even made a joke with Sausage about red herrings themselves! In one of Sausage's clue videos there is a menu for a fish and chip shop, and one of the items on the menu is "red herring".

Series 3

     Chandelier
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_172758.jpg
Ranking: First Round Elimination
Real Identity: Heather Small
Songs sung:
"Crazy" by Patsy Cline

  • Eek, a Mouse!!: A downplayed example. A mouse appeared during her performance.
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: Being a Chandelier, the costume is very glitzy.
  • Foreshadowing: Balanced on the head of her costume is a frigate. It is a HMS ship, or Heather M. Small.
  • Nonstandard Character Design: One of the few characters in the Masked Singer/Dancer UK franchise who lacks a face.
  • Secret Identity Vocal Shift: Notable even for the show. Heather Small's voice is so distinctive that she went out of her way to disguise it even when singing, leaving the judges floored when she is unmasked — they beg her to reprise "Crazy" with her real voice. Oddly enough, one of the judges thought Lionfish could have been Heather.
  • Shock and Awe: Bits of electricity sometimes appear around her, and she's sometimes seen controlling it during her clue package and the transition just before it.

     Snow Leopard
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_172842.jpg
Ranking: First Round Elimination
Real Identity: Gloria Hunniford
Songs sung:
"Hey Big Spender" by Shirley Bassey

  • Cat Girl: The costume was that of a rather dignified snow leopard.
  • Cool Old Lady: Was revealed to be 81 year old (at the time of filming) TV and Radio presenter Gloria Hunniford, making them one of the oldest contestants to appear on any version of The Masked Singer.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • At the start of Snow Leopard's VT, she can be seen wearing a medal on her outfit. This refers to Gloria's OBE.
    • Snow Leopard claims that "bond" is the word. Gloria has interviewed many stars who appeared in the James Bond films.
  • Happy Holidays Dress: This one comes in green rather than the more common red.
  • History Repeats: Just like in the US version, a leopard is eliminated after singing "Hey Big Spender".
  • Older Than Television: Joked that they had learnt to sing before TV had been invented. Considering that they were revealed to have been Gloria Hunniford (born 1940), then there was more than a bit of truth to this.
  • One Head Taller: Inverted: they barely came up to host's Joel Dommett's shoulder even with the costume on.

     Lionfish
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_172907.jpg
Ranking: Second Round Elimination
Real Identity: Will Young
Songs sung:
"Nessun Dorma" by Giacomo Puccini
“I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton
“Stop this Flame” by Celeste (Sing-Off)

  • Ambiguous Gender: The costume and the speaking voice indicates that Lionfish is a woman, but their singing voice is deep like a man's.
  • Disguised in Drag: Their singing voice suggests that despite the feminine costume, they are actually a man. Confirmed with his unmasking.
  • Fish People: Was dressed as a Lionfish, complete with giant spines that kept whacking presenter Joel Dommett in the face whenever they walked on and off the stage.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Claimed to have been surrounded by strong women. This was a reference to Will’s degree in Women’s politics.
    • There was a shot of a NYC taxi, and a beret. Will played the MC in a West End version of Cabaret.
    • Claimed they had once “royally screwed up.” Will performed at a concert held to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee in 2002, and during the mic check, he accidentally swore into the microphone.
  • Furry Reminder: Lionfish entered and exited the stage by waving his arms and making his chest rise and fall, to look as though he was swimming rather than walking. The fluidity of the movements also serves as a clue, as Will Young trained in classical ballet.

     Bagpipes
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_172929.jpg
Ranking: Second Round Elimination
Real Identity: Pat Cash
Songs sung:
"Song 2" by Blur
“Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus
“I Only Want To Be With You” by Dusty Springfield (As covered by The Bay City Rollers) (Sing-Off)

  • Animate Inanimate Object: With the mouth pipe of the bagpipe folded over almost like a beak that made him look like some bizarre bird species from certain angles.
  • Bowdlerise: His cover of "Teenage Dirtbag" changes the lyrics from "her boyfriend's a dick/ he brings a gun to school" to "her boyfriend's a twit/ he is no fun at school", due to the fact that the original lyrics wouldn't fly in a show that has a lot of kids watching.
  • Fake Scot: In-Universe, he spoke with a Scottish accent, that the judges immediately rumbled as being fake, as it sounded too Scottish to be real. Pat Cash is Australian, with some Scottish ancestry.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The tennis equipment, and the Wimbledon trophy were references to Cash not only being a former professional tennis player, but also winning Wimbledon in 1987.
    • Claimed to have started some new traditions. Cash was the first person to make his way through the crowd and then climb into the player’s box to celebrate with his family and coaches after winning Wimbledon, which many a tennis player has since copied when they have won the tournament.
    • The fruit stall in the second clue package has a "No Credit Cards" sign. In other words, Cash only.

     Poodle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_172955.jpg
Ranking: 8th Place
Real Identity: Tom Chaplin
Songs sung:
"Rocket Man" by Elton John
"What’s New Pussycat?" by Tom Jones
"Symphony" by Clean Bandit ft Zara Larsson (Sing-Off)
"Unwritten" by Natasha Beddingfield

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Their fur comes in a rainbow of colours.
  • Animal Species Accent: Would sing some notes sounding like a howling dog in performances.
  • Female Feline, Male Mutt: In the first episode for the Group B contestants, Poodle, a male contestant was in a head to head with Snow Leopard, a female contestant. There was also this crossed with Interspecies Romance when the theme of the week was Love Songs, and Poodle sung 'What's New Pussycat?' to some female cat dancers.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • One of Poodle's clue packages alluded to Christmas, and showed a #1 rosette on top of the tree. This refers to Keane's song "Somewhere Only We Know", which was covered by Lily Allen for a John Lewis Christmas advert.
    • Poodle's clue song was "Unwritten" because Keane beat Natasha Beddingfield to win Best New Artist at the 2005 BRIT Awards.
  • Furry Reminder: One of the props for Poodle's "Unwritten" performance was a large bone that acted like a bench. After his performance, Poodle lifted up his leg and pretended to urinate on the bone.
  • Incredibly Long Note: He manages to hold one for six seconds near the end of his "Unwritten" performance.
  • One Head Taller: Chaplin is over 6ft tall. It showed, especially when he was stood next to the not very short host Joel Dommett.

     Firework
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_173012.jpg
Ranking: 7th Place
Real Identity: Jaime Winstone
Songs sung:
"Domino" by Jessie J
"Fame" by Irene Cara
"Sex on Fire" by Kings of Leon (Sing-Off)
"Kids" by Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue
"Waterloo" by Abba

  • Everything's Better with Sparkles
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The ice skates were a reference to Winstone's role in a Torvill and Dean biopic.
    • Firework said that they had seen enough drama, period. This was a reference to Winstone's roles in an episode of Poriot, and playing a young Barbara Windsor.
    • Firework's clue song was "Kids". In one of the clue packages, she alludes to having a mean father. They are both clues to her father, actor Ray Winstone who is best known for playing "hard man" roles.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike most contestants, her costume doesn't have a face.

     Doughnuts
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_173029.jpg
Ranking: 6th Place
Real Identity: Michael Owen
Songs sung:
"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor
"Spice Up Your Life" by Spice Girls
"Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond
"Everyone Get Up" by 5ive

  • Anthropomorphic Food: Granted, this one appears to be a man made entirely out of donuts. They even had backing dancers dressed up as cookies.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Doughnuts remarked that he liked to jockey along. Owen not only has a stake in some winning racehorses, but also completed as a jockey in one race.
    • The packet of crisps were a reference to Walkers renaming their cheese and onion crisps to cheese and Owen during a football tournament.
    • The Argentine flag was reference to Owen scoring a goal after running from the halfway line against Argentina in the 1998 The World Cup.
    • The references about the Liver birds, stoking the fires, and the screen turning black and white during one VT were clues to some of the previous English football clubs Owen has played for: Liverpool, Stoke City, and Newcastle United.
  • Fun Personified: He isn't the best singer in the competition, but is clearly having the time of his life on the stage and his enthusiasm is highly infectious. The panel even acknowledges this.

     Traffic Cone
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_173048.jpg
Ranking: 5th place
Real Identity: Aled Jones
Songs sung:
"Never Going To Give You Up" by Rick Astley
"When She Loved Me" by Sarah McLachlan
"Back for Good" by Take That!
"A Million Dreams" from The Greatest Showman
""Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes

  • Animate Inanimate Object: Of all the costumes, a Traffic Cone seems the most bizarre of all.
  • Beach Episode: "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" is fittingly set on a beach.
  • The Bus Came Back: He returns in the series 4 finale to perform a duet with Fawn.
  • Cool Old Guy: Seems to be portrayed as one of these with white eyebrows and mustache. Aled Jones was 51 at time of recording the show, so was nowhere as old as the costume made him out to be, and is clean shaven in real life.
  • Costume Evolution: In a similar fashion to Sausage, Traffic Cone has new elements added to his outfit each time he appears. He started to wear a hi-vis jacket in his second appearance, and the following week saw him wear a traffic lights necklace. A week later, he ditched both those items in favour of a tux. In his final appearance, he wore a pair of sunglasses and a flower garland.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Traffic Cone suggested they had a "gold plated childhood." Aled Jones first became famous as a 15 year old choirboy, and the albums he released then were certified gold by the UK charts.
    • There was the word "Believe" written on a cone in one VT. It referred to two things: one was the fact that Jones had an album out at the time of recording the show called "Believe," the other was to the fact that he presents the religious show Songs of Praise.
    • Traffic Cone talks about performing in the skies. Aled Jones is best known for singing "Walking in the Air". He once performed that song while abroad an airplane.
    • One of Traffic cone's clues was that he was famous for taking his top off. When he had finished his education, Aled Jones played Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the West End, a role that involves wearing a loincloth, and not a lot else, for most the show.
    • The £10 notes being shown? They were a hint to Jones being a tenor.
  • Playing Against Type: Since Aled Jones is better know for crossover classical and chorial music, he was probably the last person who would expect to be singing "Never Going to Give You Up," and "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)," let alone dancing to it while performing.

     Rockhopper
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_173102.jpg
Ranking: 4th place
Real Identity: Michelle Williams
Songs sung:
"Higher Love" by Steve Winwood (as covered by Kygo ft. Whitney Houston)
"Love is a Losing Game" by Amy Winehouse
"Edge of Midnight" by Miley Cyrus ft. Stevie Nicks
"We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" by Tina Turner
"Adore You" by Harry Styles
"Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton

  • Breakout Character: Like Chameleon, she made appearances in adverts promoting casino brand "Ojo"
  • The Bus Came Back: Williams had previously been Butterfly in the American version of the show.
  • Expy: Seems to be one of Robin from the second series, with both of them being birds with similar outfits. The difference is that Robin was a man, while Rockhopper is a woman.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Rockhopper's clue song was "Edge of Midnight" because the riff in the song is the same as the Destiny's Child's song "Bootylicious", which they in turn sampled from Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen".
    • In one VT, Rockhopper is seen laying down onto a table three pictures of famous Williams. This is a hint at Michelle's surname. It was also a reference to the Destiny's Child song "Bills, Bills, Bills."
    • Rockhopper mentioned a choir. This was a reference to Michelle's first solo album after the break up of Destiny's Child being gospel influenced.
    • Rockhopper mentioned that her name has been all on kinds of billboards. This was a reference to Michelle's career in music and stage musicals.
  • Genki Girl: Rockhopper seems to skip and jump everywhere, and she often waves and flashes heart signs at the audience.
  • Red Herring: You'd be forgiven for thinking she was Zendaya, with her circus-themed appearance, VTs and performances hinting at her appearance in The Greatest Showman. The judges even included Zendaya in their guesses. They were all misleading, however. This could have also been a clever bit of Foreshadowing to her namesake Michelle Williams, who was also in The Greatest Showman.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Rockhopper deliberately disguised her real speaking voice, as she felt she would be rumbled straightaway with it. However, the accent she put on ended up with the judges trying to work out which European country she was from instead, with guesses ranging from Sweden to Spain.

     Robobunny
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_173119.jpg
Ranking: 3rd place
Real Identity: Mark Feehily
Songs sung:
"Saving All My Love For You" by Whitney Houston
"Shallow" by Lady Gaga
"Dynamite" by BTS
"Music Of The Night" from The Phantom of the Opera
"Over The Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz (as covered by Ariana Grande)
"Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" by Mark Ronson ft. Miley Cyrus
"Run" by Snow Patrol (as covered by Leona Lewis)
"I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" by Aretha Franklin & George Michael (duet with Queen Bee)

  • Flip Personality: The rabbit and mech suit are actually two different personas, each with their own distinct voice. They switch back and forth between each other during performances. Robobunny acknowledges this in his performance of "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart", when the rabbit yells out "Robo!"
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Robobunny's clue song was "Dynamite" which references a Westlife song of the same name.
    • One of the hints from the QR code shows the years 1999, 2000, and 2003. Those were the years when Westlife performed on The Royal Variety Performance.
    • Robobunny had 14 carrots growing in containers on the side of their costume, and there was also a clip of an old fashioned arcade game where they collected 14 carrots. These were both hints to the fact that one of Westlife was under the costume, as it was a reference to their 14 UK number#1 singles.
    • His social media clue is a tin of grease. Westlife formed after appearing in their school production of Grease.
  • Graceful Loser: Even after he doesn’t get through to the final part, he still shakes the hands of each of his opponents.
  • Jaw Drop: Occasionally does this with their movable mouth, most notably when watching Mushroom's performance in the first episode.
  • Mini-Mecha: The mech suit is about human-sized.
  • Mobile-Suit Human: Is a rabbit piloting a mech suit.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike the other costumes, this one's mouth can actually move.
  • Solo Duet: Robobunny is very fond of doing this. The majority of his songs that he has sung are duets; and even when the song isn't, he will turn it into a duet anyway.
  • Stock Animal Diet: Has carrots growing in containers on its side, and backing dancers dressed up as carrots.

     Mushroom
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_173147.jpg
Ranking: 2nd place
Real Identity: Charlotte Church
Songs sung:
"It's Oh So Quiet" by Betty Hutton (as covered by Björk)
"There Are Worse Things I Could Do" from Grease
"Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley
"Stone Cold" by Demi Lovato
"Don't Walk Away" by Jade
"The Power of Love" by Jennifer Rush
"Flower Duet" by Léo Delibes
"We Found Love" by Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris (duet with Robin)
"Stone Cold" by Demi Lovato (Finale reprise)

  • Accent Interest: Mushroom's ability to accurately speak and even sing in several accents has caught the panel's attention.
  • The Bus Came Back: She returns in the series 5 finale to sing a duet with Cricket.
  • Expy: Of Mushroom from the US series. The costume for this Mushroom is designed to look like a human wearing a dress with mushrooms growing out of it.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: The costume has a head, but the hair is designed to resemble a fungus known as mica cap, meaning the fringe drapes over the eyes. This leaves just the nose and mouth visible, and the eyes remain unseen throughout Mushroom's entire run.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Mushroom's clue song was "Crazy" because Charlotte Church has a well-known song called "Crazy Chick".
    • Mushroom talked about defeating her aunt. Charlotte Church first rose to fame following a performance on Big, Big Talent Show, where she was introduced onto the show by her aunt.
    • Mushroom was seen with a box of tissues. This was a reference to Charlotte's first pop album, which was called Tissues and Issues.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Mushroom waits until the grand final before she shows off her operatic skills with her "Flower Duet" stage.
  • Mushroom Man: Or rather, Mushroom Woman.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Invoked deliberately. Mushroom speaks with a northern, possibly Lancashire, accent and sang her first song with a Irish accent. When asked by the judges about her speaking voice, and where she was from, she then started to speak in a Southern Welsh accent ,which turned out to their actual accent, before changing it to Bristolian, the last one prompting host Joel Dommett to ask whether she knew his Mother. note

     Panda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_09_12_173209.jpg
Ranking: Series Champion
Real Identity: Natalie Imbruglia
Songs sung:
"Levitating" by Dua Lipa ft DaBaby
"Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer
"Story Of My Life" by One Direction
"Blame It on the Boogie" by The Jackson 5
"Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club
"Dancing On My Own" by Robyn
"Blank Space" by Taylor Swift
"It Takes Two" by Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston (duet with Hedgehog)
"Story Of My Life" by One Direction (Finale reprise)

  • Cuddle Bug: Often gives Joel a hug after singing, and wanted to give guest judge Joan Collins one when she mentioned she loved pandas.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Panda mentioned that things were "Were right up my street," and there was bits of building equipment and a boomerang shown. These were all hints to Imbruglia being in the Australian soap Neighbours, where she played builder Beth Brenner, as well as being an Aussie herself.
    • One of the clues was that they liked "getting ripped." The judges took this to mean that they were into fitness, but it was actually a play on words in reference to Imbruglia's first song "Torn."
    • Mentioned that were "Off centre." Imbruglia's first album was called "Left of Middle."
    • Said that this wasn't the "first time they had been this animated." Imbruglia voiced Koala in Robbie the Reindeer.
    • Her clue song was "Story of my Life." One Direction covered her song "Torn," (which itself was a cover) on The X Factor, and she was also a guest judge on the same series that they were on.
  • One Head Taller: Inverted: Just like Snow Leopard, Panda barely reaches Joel Dommett's shoulder with the costume on. Even the judges commented on how short she was.
  • Stock Animal Diet: Her backpack has bamboo sticking out of it, some of her performances have bamboo as part of the scenery, and Joel makes a bamboo-related pun at one point. Best exemplified during "Karma Chameleon" where we get a bamboo forest and several panda backup dancers eating bamboo.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Panda wears a boy scout outfit and her disguised speaking voice resembles a man's voice, but her singing voice reveals that she's a woman.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Special 2022

     Witchetty Grub
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_12_19_094057.jpg
Ranking: Sing-Off Runner-Up
Real Identity: Alison Hammond
Songs sung:
"Moving On Up" by M People

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies
  • Foreshadowing: Witchetty Grub's clue package references other reality shows:
    • Witchetty Grub uses the phrase "strictly speaking". Alison was a contestant on series ten of Strictly Come Dancing.
    • Witchetty Grub is seen cooking food. This references Celebrity Masterchef, when Alison took part in series nine.
    • The word "coach" is seen. Alison was a contestant on Celebrity Coach Trip.

     Cockroach
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_12_19_094208.jpg
Ranking: Sing-Off Runner-Up
Real Identity: Russell Watson
Songs sung:
"Go The Distance" by Michael Bolton (from Hercules)

  • Creepy Cockroach: Averted. The costume is a cockroach dressed in a Roman soldier outfit, and the design makes him look friendly rather than creepy.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In the clue package, there is a sign that says "Imperial Palace". This references the time that Russell sung for the Emperor of Japan.
    • Cockroach talks about being compared to a sporting legend. A newspaper article once mentioned that Russell had played Wembley Arena more times than David Beckham.

     Kangaroo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_12_19_094130.jpg
Ranking: Runner-Up
Real Identity: Sinitta
Songs sung:
"Lush Life" by Zara Larsson
"Just Got Paid" by Sigala, Ella Eyre, Meghan Trainor and French Montana

  • The Bus Came Back: This is not Sinitta's first performance as a Masked Singer. She had previously taken part in the UK live tour, as one of the identities of the tour-exclusive character Baby Dino.
  • Cool Shades: Wears a pair of white shutter shades. Unlike some other shades used on costumes, they can actually be removed, and she performs "Just Got Paid" without them.
  • Foreshadowing: The letter X appears a few times during Kangaroo's clue package. One of the later clues for Kangaroo is a leaf. Both clues refers to The X Factor. During the Judges Houses' stage of the competition, Sinitta was often involved with helping Simon Cowell make his decisions.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: They don't wear any bottom clothes so they can show off their pouch filled with money.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Has two such instances with the judges:
    • The leaf clue references the time when Sinitta appeared at Simon Cowell's house wearing a dress made out of leaves. Rita was also there at the house that day.
    • A woolly hat is a clue that Sinitta appeared on the skiing competition programme The Jump, which was hosted by Davina.

     Koala
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_12_19_094235.jpg
Ranking: Winner
Real Identity: Vernon Kay
Songs sung:
"Could It Be Magic" by Barry Manilow (as covered by Take That!)
"If I Could Dream" by Elvis Presley

  • Cuddle Bug: When Koala walks onto the stage for the first sing-off, he instantly cuddles Joel, and almost refuses to let go of him.
  • Disguised in Drag: The costume is a koala dressed in a ballerina's outfit, complete with ballet flats, tiara, and fairy wings and wand. The judges all thought that koala was a woman, until they heard a man's voice in the clue package.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Koala says that he likes the letter K. This references Vernon's surname.
    • One of Koala's clues was a full English breakfast. Vernon appeared on The Big Breakfast as the male model of the week.
    • In the clue package, Koala is seen hosting a tea party with three little koalas. This is a reference to T4, which Vernon hosted and got his big break from.
  • Large Ham: Koala never stood still while performing his songs. He also pretended to storm off following a ridiculous suggestion from Jonathan, and he celebrated his victory by performing a knee slide on the stage.

Series 4

     Ghost
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2022_12_19_095312.jpg
Ranking: First Round Elimination
Real Identity: Chris Kamara
Songs sung:
"Save the Last Dance for Me" by The Drifters

  • Bedsheet Ghost: The costume mostly consists of a white sheet with two cartoonish eyes.
  • Company Cross References: Ghost’s Leitmotif music was the theme tune to another ITV show - Midsomer Murders.
  • Fake Scot: In-Universe; much like Bagpipes from the previous season, he spoke (and sang) with a Scottish accent. Unlike Bagpipes, the judges largely took it seriously, with all the judges bar Mo picking Scottish celebrities. Ghost is really an Englishman, as Chris Kamara is from Middlesbrough.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Ghost talks about exploring a house from the attic to the cellar, and he brings up attic specifically a few times. This refers to the daytime show Cash In The Attic, which Chris presents.
    • Ghost also uses the word "gaffe" in his clue package. Chris is well known for the occasional blunders he makes while working as a football commentator, most famously missing the fact that a player had been sent off in one match.
  • Multilayer Façade: When he is about to be unmasked, it turns out he's wearing a skeleton mask and costume underneath the sheet. This means he does the Dramatic Unmask twice.

"Get Happy" by Judy Garland (from Summer Stock)
"There’s Nothing Holdin' Me Back" by Shawn Mendes (Sing-Off)

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Upon their unmasking, Cat & Mouse reveal that they went on the show seeking to embarrass their children, specifically their adult son Roman Kemp, a TV personality and radio DJ in his own right.
  • Breaking Old Trends: They're the first group costume in the UK version of The Masked Singer.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Cat mentions that he is "on pointe" in one clue package. The pointe is a reference to a ballet term, and Martin Kemp is a member of the band Spandau Ballet.
    • The picture of Queen Victoria in the background of Cat’s office was correctly deduced by Jonathan Ross to refer to the Queen Vic, the pub in EastEnders, which led him to guess that a cast member was under the mask - Martin Kemp played Steve Owen on the show.
  • Funny Animal: They are, respectively, a cat detective and a mouse robber.
  • Predator-Prey Friendship: Although the outfits say otherwise, it's very unlikely that the two celebrities in these costumes hate each other. Indeed, they're introduced as rivals and their first song is even the Quarreling Song "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better", but they're also seen dancing with each other to Phoenix's performance soon after. They also hug each other after their sing-off performance in the second round, and in the same episode are revealed to be a married couple.
  • Stock Animal Diet: In their first clue video, Mouse is seen stealing some cheese, and the duo's performances also feature cheese in the background in some way.

"Let Me Entertain You" by Robbie Williams
"Ruby" by Kaiser Chiefs

  • Animate Inanimate Object: If you thought Traffic Cone in the last season was weird, you might find a living mass of trash in a recycling bin even weirder.
  • Fake Scot: Inverted. Stephen Hendry is actually Scottish, but chose to disguise his speaking voice with a Cockney accent instead.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Rubbish talks about being valued in their youth. When Stephen won his first World Snooker Championship, he was 21 at the time.
    • In a clue package, Rubbish repeats the word "again" seven times. Stephen has won seven world titles.
    • The different coloured bins, the photo frames and cushions, along with Rubbish mentioning angles were all clues to the fact that there was a snooker player hiding under that mask, which Jonathan Ross did actually work out - he just guessed the wrong player.
  • Infraction Distraction: A downplayed example - Hendry got himself into trouble with the snooker governing body for pulling out of some snooker tournaments he had entered that clashed with filming. Not being able to say why he couldn’t attend the tournaments, he just told the organisers that he wasn’t going to make it and without giving a valid reason as to why, he ended up getting fined.
  • Non-Indicative Name: They're called Rubbish (the British term for garbage or trash), but the logo on the bin indicates that they're actually being used for recycling.

Ranking: 8th Place
Real Identity: Katherine Ryan

When Davina suggests this in episode 2, Pigeon throws a tantrum and starts crying. When Mo makes a similar remark in episode 4, Pigeon starts gesturing at him like she is ready to fight him.
  • Bird People

    • One clue package features a sign that warns of "heavy footfall". In other words, there will be a lot of Steps.
  • Living Clothes: Well, more like living clothes in the making; they're a jumper/sweater that's still being knitted.
  • Shrinking Violet: They often cover their "face" (or the ball of wool representing their head) with their hands, and they cling to Joel's arm after their first song while the panel are giving their guesses.

  • Karmic Jackpot: After just missing out on the finals, Amber would go on to successfully win the US version not too long after competing here while once again becoming one of the most popular contestants of her season.

  • Non-Standard Character Design: Air Fryer's face can display different expressions. This is extremely rare on The Masked Singer in general, with only the Japanese, Brazilian and Mexican version each having one performer before capable of doing this. Fittingly, all are based on machines.
  • Wingding Eyes: Their eyes sometimes turn into red love hearts. They also gave a downcast expression on their LED monitor when eliminated and therefore awaiting unmasking.

  • Animate Inanimate Object: Would you ever have expected one of the world’s most famous monuments as a costume?
  • Breaking Old Trends: When they are unmasked, instead of singing a song they had already sung during that episode at the end, as had been done on all previous times in the U.K. series, Eiffel Tower ended up singing her most famous song, "I Think We're Alone Now", after being begged to by the panel. This has been a trend in the US series since season 8.

  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Well, the Bigfoot anyway.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • He's the first contestant to make it to the final who isn't a professional singer.
    • He's also the first finalist whose duet is with someone of the same gender, namely Phoenix.
  • Determinator: At least as far as the character is concerned, as they wear a cast on their left foot and walk with a crutch, yet they're still out there ready to sing.
  • Expy: It's been a while since the UK version has had a Monster-type character.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In his first clue package, Bigfoot says hello to the "hills"; and in his last clue package, he is seen holding a comb with "a widdy" written on it. Both clues refer to Alex's The Last Leg co-hosts, Adam Hills and Josh Widdicombe.

"It’s All Coming Back to Me Now" by Céline Dion (Finale reprise)

  • Fish People: A walking, talking, singing red-bellied piranha.
  • Foreshadowing: His bedtime story about his cooking skills was a hint to Danny appearing on Celebrity Masterchef.
    • The truth juice clue “I’ve performed at Glastonbury” refers to Mc Fly performing as part of its 2022 lineup.
    • Mentions a world record. That was a nod to Mc Fly’s Guinness World Record: Youngest Band to have a Debut No.1 Album.
    • The bucket of pine was a nod to Danny appearing in the film “Just My Luck” with Chris Pine.
  • Piranha Problem: Completely averted. Despite his pyjamas having severed hands and feet on them, this piranha is portrayed as very shy and easily scared.
  • Shrinking Violet: He acts really shy and scared of everything, even the ocean he came from. The only time he isn't like this when he's singing.
