Awesome / The Masked Singer (UK)

Go To

Series 1

  • What does Octopus do when she finds herself in the bottom-two after her second performance? Pull off an operatic note during her performance of "One Last Time", shocking the panelists!
    • Sure enough, it's not only enough to save her from elimination, she ends up finishing in third place!
    • Octopus pulls this trick again while performing "Diamonds Are Forever", which was enough to jolt guest judge Donny Osmond out of his seat... and make Davina scream.
  • Monster's show-stopping performance of "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" showcases his sheer range.
  • Rita Ora not only got half of the masks correct, but also managed to get all three finalists correct.

Series 2

  • Mo Gilligan, on his second unmasking, successfully identifies Seahorse as Mel B. He also manages to convince Davina and Rita (but not Jonathan) to go with his answer.
  • Jonathan subsequently redeems himself by being the only panelist to correctly identify Swan as Martine McCutcheon, figuring it out at the very last moment.
  • Dragon's performance of "All By Myself" in episode 5 is something to behold. The wide-eyed look on Jonathan's face at the end says it all.
    • Just the fact that Dragon was the only contestant to make it to the semi-final who wasn't a professional singer. In fact, if you count people who have been in musicals as professional singers, then this covers not just the current series, but the previous one as well.
  • While Viking's rendition of "Take On Me" was beautiful and deserving of praise, the awesome comes from how for the first time in the show's history as revealed in his unmasking as Morten Harket, the artist underneath the mask sung his own song and nobody on the panel figured out it was him. Doubles as a funny moment as well.
  • When the previous winner, Queen Bee/Nicola Roberts, returned as a guest judge during the final, she managed to correctly guess Badger's identity as Ne-Yo, whom neither of the other judges had guessed before. Said guess also convinces the other judges. She probably deserves extra points for doing so through the very straightforward means of recognising their voice.
  • The fact that Sausage managed to win the competition without anyone on the panel guessing who she was, making her one of the most successful food costumes in Masked Singer history. Not to mention that Sausage was heavily pregnant at the time of recording as well.

Series 3

  • Jonathan Ross guessing straightaway that Snow Leopard was Gloria Hunniford. Hunniford herself probably counts since she was 81 years old at the time, making her one of the oldest ever contestants on any version of The Masked Singer.
  • Mushroom's performance of Crazy. She really shows off her skills when she ad-libs the last chorus.
  • Robobunny may not have won, but let's give him some credit. By giving the rabbit and the mech suit distinct personas, he was effectively singing for two - that he kept both voices consistent, and managed to make them both sound amazing to boot (despite one being an at-times-comically squeaky voice) is testament to his sheer vocal abilities.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Special

  • The fact that were only eight votes separating Cockroach and Kangaroo, with the latter narrowly making it through to the final performance.

Series 4

  • Fawn's cover of Beauty and the Beast. She takes an already moving song and produces a cover that blows the original out of the water.
  • While they don't do very well, props to Cat and Mouse for being the first group costume in UK Masked Singer history.
  • Although he doesn't quite get it right, Jonathan deserves credit for being the only panel member to figure out that Rubbish is a snooker player.
    • He was also the only one of the panel to cotton on to the fact that one of Cat and Mouse was either a current or former cast member of EastEnders from the clues in the previous episode. However, like his guess for Rubbish, he went for the wrong person.
    • He also worked out that Fawn was one of All Saints from the clues ... only to then say the wrong name again.
  • Much like Sausage in the second series, Pigeon, revealed to be Katherine Ryan, was heavily pregnant during her time on the show. Even though she wasn't the best singer, she still brought a lot of energy to her performances that you wouldn't expect from someone who was 8 months along.
  • Jacket Potato covers Go Your Own Way whilst also playing a guitar.
  • Phoenix manages to completely fool the panel, with none of then guessing he was actually Ricky Wilson — not even Rita, who had been a judge with him on The Voice.
  • Joel deserves to get a mention for working out that Rhino was Charlie Simpson after his first performance by recognising the singing voice, because, as he admitted, he’s a massive fan of Simpson's band Fightstar. In comparison, the judges only start to suggest Charlie's name halfway into the series.
  • Speaking of Rhino/Charlie Simpson, he's the first male winner of the series!

Series 5

  • Eiffel Tower ended up doing a rendition of their most famous song after being unmasked instead of singing a song she had already sung during that episode after being begged to by Jonathan. Cue the whole panel along with Joel getting up and dancing along, and Rita having a massive fangirl moment.
  • Bigfoot finishes in second place, making him the highest-finishing non-professional singer of the whole competition. It's worth noting how much Bigfoot improved over the competition as well; compare the first time he sung "You're Welcome" in his first episode, to his reprise in the finals.
  • Although Piranha's name had been mentioned a few times, nobody correctly guesses his identity in the finals.
