    Bandana Waddle Dee
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tex1_128x160_1e867001b84d4029_274d9934327a400b_9.png
Sailor Waddle Dee
Funky Kong cosplay
Mech Waddle Dee

Home series: Kirby
Debut: Kirby Super Star (1996)

A seemingly high-ranking Waddle Dee in King Dedede's army, distinguishable from others by his blue bandanna. Initially characterized as Dedede's sidekick, he gradually became one of Kirby's friends over time, as well as being much stronger than one would expect. He brings his trusty spear into battle, fighting alongside Kirby and friends to take on the big names.

  • Badass Adorable: While seemingly a mere Waddle Dee, he has helped Kirby take on evil monsters and tyrannical overlords in his own series, and in here, he can go toe-to-toe with various Nintendo all-stars and third-party reps.
  • Battle Intro: Floats down via parasol.
  • Double Jump: Can perform two midair jumps.
  • Heroic Mime: Unlike the other Kirby reps, he is completely mute.
  • Javelin Thrower: As part of the Spear ability's moveset, his side special can be charged to throw up to three spears in the form of a Spread Shot, and he can walk left or right while doing so.
  • Palette Swap: Among his unique alternate costumes include a red-and-white spotted bandanna and Cool Shades ensemble similar to Funky Kong's, Sailor Waddle Dee's cap, and the Cyborg Waddle Dees from Kirby: Planet Robobot.
  • Parasol of Pain: Wields the Parasol ability for his forward smash, up aerial, up throw, and down special.
  • Shock and Awe: His spear turns into the Beam ability's Magic Wand. His neutral special involves charging up an electric orb, and when it sparkles, it stuns the opponent when fired. Simply tapping the input otherwise will perform the Beam Whip. Other attacks that use it are his up smash, forward aerial, and forward throw.
  • Slide Attack: A sliding kick serves as his down tilt.
  • Spin Attack: To hover with his spear for his up special.
  • Waddling Head: Just like the other Waddle Dees.

    Big Boss

    Black Knight

Voiced by: Robert Clotworthy

Home series: Fire Emblem
Debut: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (2005)

Insert here.

  • Evil Is Bigger: Ike's nemesis and is a head taller than him.
  • Heal Thyself: Has the Imbue spell as one of his specials, healing himself for as long as he can hold it.
  • Mighty Glacier: Hits like a truck, but that armor isn't doing his agility any favors.

    Black Shadow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tex1_128x160_4fc95418e6ae14f6_5fd8dc8eef5cbbed_9.png

Voiced by: Norio Wakamoto

Home series: F-Zero
Debut: F-Zero X (1998)

"BULL... PAWNCH!!!!!"

Leader of the terrorist organization Dark Million, Black Shadow is a cold-blooded, callous Evil Overlord with an intense hatred for Captain Falcon. He brings his psychotic flair to F-Zero races in his intimidating Black Bull racing machine, and has now invaded the battlefields of Smash to face off against his Arch-Enemy once again.

  • Actor Allusion: His aerial down special is called Psycho Crusher, a Signature Move used by another one of Norio Wakamoto's roles.
  • Animal Motifs: Obviously the bull, given his vehicle's name and the horns on his outfit and F-Zero machine, and his down special having him charging like a bull at his enemies.
  • Battle Intro: The Black Bull slows to a stop, Black Shadow jumps out, and then the Black Bull speeds off.
  • Bring It: He beckons his opponent with a "come at me" gesture as his up taunt.
  • Casting a Shadow: He isn't called Black Shadow for nothing; he's mastered the dark arts to ravage his opponents on the battlefield.
  • Evil Is Bigger: He and his racing machine are bigger than Captain Falcon and his Blue Falcon.
  • Ground Punch: His Black Hawk Stinger neutral special will function as this if the control stick is held downwards.
  • Horn Attack: His Bull Rush down special and forward throw utilize his Horns of Villainy to stab his opponents.
  • Immune to Flinching: When performing the Black Hawk Stinger, he gains super armor at the startup, provided if he isn't in the air.
  • Irony: When Black Shadow is suggested as a Smash fighter, it's usually in the form of giving him Ganondorf's current moveset so the devs finally have an excuse to make a more in-character moveset for him while not alienating fans of the "Falcondorf" playstyle. Here, Black Shadow is a unqiue (albeit pseudo-clone) character while Ganondorf retains the "Falcondorf" kit.note
  • Large Ham: It's Norio Wakamoto, what do you expect? You need someone who matches Captain Falcon's own hamminess to take him on.
  • Mighty Glacier: Like Ganondorf, he's a slower and stronger take on Captain Falcon's archetype.
  • Moveset Clone: He is a pseudo-clone of both Captain Falcon and Ganondorf, taking animations and moves from both but with some notable variations.
  • Offhand Backhand: His down taunt swings his right arm behind him as he gives an Evil Laugh, which can damage enemies.
  • Purple Is the New Black: Alongside his default outfit being purple enough to provide the page image, his attacks produce plenty of purple effects.
  • Satanic Archetype: Black Shadow gives off imagery of the classic depiction of Satan, as Christian mythology popularized the idea of demons having horns and other bull-like features. His trophy description appropriately calls him "the undisputed lord of evil".
  • Shout-Out: One of his alternate costumes has the colors of Batman.
  • Voice Grunting: His voice lines seem to be taken from F-Zero: GP Legend, but seeing as they're all in Japanese, they mostly consist of grunts and evil laughs (one can presume that the "Bull Punch" call for his neutral special was spliced together from Wakamoto voice clips).
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Some of his attacks are professional wrestling maneuvers. His Spine Snapper side special is a backbreaker, his up throw is a suplex, and his back throw is a gorilla press.

    Blaziken
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tex1_128x160_f37c66037b94e687_c77e5293614bad98_9.png

Final form of Torchic and the Fire-type starter Pokémon of the Hoenn region, Blaziken is an anthropomorphic Fire/Fighting bird Pokémon based on the cockfighting shamo chicken known for its fiery punches and kicks as well as its agility.

  • Ascended Extra: From a trophy and stage element to a fully playable fighter.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: The second Fighting-type Pokémon in the game after Lucario, with the moveset to match. As expected, its moveset is modeled after Muay Thai.
  • Battle Intro: Emerges from a Poké Ball as it performs a Bring It gesture.
  • Bird People: It's more anthropomorphic than its pre-evolutions, to the point that it has clawed hands instead of wings or Feather Fingers like Falco.
  • Cast from Hit Points: By using an A+B input for its special moves, it can use powered-up Overheat versions at the cost of some self-damage. Its neutral special gains an extra kick (apparently going from Double Kick to Triple Kick), its side special (presumably Brave Bird) becomes more powerful, and its up special (modeled after Sky Uppercut) gains a ton of recovery distance and creates a massive pillar of flame below Blaziken.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Blaziken has a unique Overheat mechanic that carries over this trope from its home series but in a different way; instead of being a powerful attack with cooldown, it powers up Blaziken's special moves at the cost of some hit points.
  • Dub Name Change: From Bursyamo in Japanese, which is used internally to denote its character files.
  • Playing with Fire: It's a Fire/Fighting type and most of its attacks are cloaked in fire. Even moreso with its Overheat mechanic, which lets it add even more literal firepower to its moves. It's the second Fire-type Pokémon to be made playable in the game, taking the place of Incineroar from Ultimate.
  • Pokémon Speak: Like with Charizard, its cries (taken from Pokkén Tournament) resemble its Japanese name, though unlike in the anime (and similarly to Mewtwo) it isn't properly dubbed to say its English name instead.
  • Shoryuken: Its up special, Sky Uppercut, is a very straightforward dragon punch.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Incineroar from Ultimate, as a fighting-themed anthropomorphic Fire-type starter Pokémon. Its down special (taken from Pokkén Tournament) is even superficially similar to Incineroar's Cross Chop. Downplayed, in that Incineroar itself was officially teased at the end of the 0.95b announcement video.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Like Greninja, its voice is unusually high-pitched and squawky for a fully-evolved Pokémon, meant to fit the type of animal it's based on (a chicken in this case).

    Deathborn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deathborn_standard_00.png

Voiced by: Chase Tant

Home series: F-Zero
Debut: F-Zero GX (2003)

"None of you will ever truly be my rivals!"

The cause of multiple problems in the universe, Deathborn is the champion of the F-Zero Grand Prix in the Underworld. Little is known about him, but the Space Police has connected him to every missing persons investigation since the Great Accident. He has also died a few times, but has managed to bring himself back to life by swapping some of his body parts for mechanical ones, effectively becoming immortal. Piloting his Dark Schneider racing machine, he storms the Smash world to confront Captain Falcon again.

  • Battle Intro: Steps out of a dark portal.
  • Brain in a Jar: His brain is encased in a glass dome. Presumably, it was one of the surviving parts of his original body before being rebuilt as a cyborg.
  • Bring It: He gloats "You have a death wish?" in his side taunt, which also has a hitbox.
  • Diving Kick: His down special is Foot Dive, where he leaps forward and plunges both feet out similar to Dr. Doom's attack from the Marvel vs. Capcom games. He even shouts "Foot Dive!" when performing it.
  • Evil Is Bigger: He rivals Ridley, Dark Samus, and Metal Face as one of the most vile villains to come from a Nintendo game, and like Black Shadow, he towers over Captain Falcon.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Seems to be a requirement for F-Zero characters, good or evil, to be deliciously over-the-top. Notably, he's the only F-Zero rep to speak actual English.
  • Immune to Flinching: His neutral special gives him super armor at the start of the attack.
  • Mighty Glacier: Like Ganondorf and Black Shadow, he fights like a slower and stronger Captain Falcon.
  • Moveset Clone: Save for his Foot Dive attack, he borrows many moves from Ganondorf (most prominently the Melee version since his side special is a Gerudo Dragon equivalent instead of Flame Choke), himself already a clone of Falcon.
  • Mythology Gag: The 0.95 reveal trailer has him grab Black Shadow at his mercy like in the prologue to F-Zero GX's Story Mode, where he threatens to kill him if he fails to win the Grand Prix. His victory quote against Black Shadow is a nod to this.
  • Psycho Electro: A Godhood Seeker who plans to merge light and darkness to achieve The End of the World as We Know It, with many of his attacks using electricity.
  • Shout-Out: In case the Dr. Doom comparison from the Foot Dive attack wasn't enough, he has a recolor that resembles Doom himself.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: All of his win quotes belittle his opponents. If Deathborn wins against Captain Falcon in a match, he says this:
"You as the F-Zero champion? Ha ha ha ha ha!"
  • Villain Teleportation: Rather than performing standard rolls and spot dodges, his dodging animations have him vanish and flicker briefly while doing a Badass Armfold similar to M. Bison's Bison Warp.
  • You Have Failed Me: What he says as his win quote against Black Shadow. See Mythology Gag above.

    Dr. Luigi

Voiced by: Charles Martinet

Home series: Super Mario Bros.
Debut: Dr. Luigi (2013)

Insert here.

  • Abnormal Ammo: Uses Megavitamins like his brother, but in the shape of an L.
  • Ass Kicks You: Retains the butt attack as his third hit in his neutral attack.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: First there was Mario's brother, then Mario as a doctor, and now Mario's brother as a doctor.
  • Moveset Clone: Meant to serve as a bridge between Luigi and Dr. Mario. His special have more vertical range compared to his plumber counterpart.
  • Opaque Nerd Glasses: Some of his palettes give him Professor E. Gadd's swirly glasses.
  • Shock and Awe: His forward smash is an electrified Hell Thrust. His version of the Green Missile also does electric damage.

    Dry Bowser

Voiced by: Kenny James

Home series: Super Mario Bros.
Debut: New Super Mario Bros. (2006)

A skeleton version of Bowser, emerging from the lava pit with his skin and flesh melted off after his defeat in the first world's castle. He is later fought in the eighth world's first castle, but is crumbled and later completely revived by Bowser Jr. in the climax. Since then, he has appeared as a separate character from Bowser, usually in the spin-offs.

Originally appearing as a set of costumes for Bowser in Project M and its successors, he becomes his own fighter in PMEX Remix with his own moveset.

  • Battle Intro: Walks out of a wall of blue flames as he gives a haunting roar.
  • Breath Weapon: As opposed to the fireballs his living self got, he retains his old Fire Breath.
  • Decomposite Character: Never mind the fact that he's an actual skeleton; he started off as Bowser's alternate costume in Project M before being adapted as his own fighter in REMIX.
  • Dem Bones: He's Bowser Stripped to the Bone upon meeting A Molten Date with Death.
  • Divergent Character Evolution: With the living Bowser keeping his Project+ moveset as of REMIX version 0.95, Dry Bowser inherits Bowser's designs in 3DS/Wii U and Ultimate, albeit still keeping the Primal Stance he had pre-3DS/Wii U. He has Fire Breath that Bowser had pre-Project+ and Flying Slam as his side special. Their forward smashes, down smashes, neutral aerials, and back aerials also have different animations and properties. Ironically, their running animations are swapped; Dry Bowser has the "skating run" animation his living counterpart had in Melee and Brawl, while Bowser has the more normal running animation from 3DS/Wii U onward.
  • Evil Laugh: He gives a haunting laugh for his up taunt until his lower jaw falls off, which he then reattaches.
  • Evil Redhead: His fiery red hair was the only part of him left intact.
  • Ground Pound: Like his living counterpart's version, his grounded Bowser Bomb can be canceled with a jump at the apex of the leap.
  • Moveset Clone: Of Bowser, though as the entry for Divergent Character Evolution states, they differ in some aspects.
  • One-Winged Angel: Like Bowser, he has a Giga Dry Bowser form as a Final Smash and an L-load fighter, whose abilities are identical to his living counterpart's.
  • Technicolor Fire: His Fire Breath is made up of blue flames.
  • Voice of the Legion: His voice sounds deeper and more haunting than regular Bowser's.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Has Flying Slam as his side special, which is a flying suplex, and uses a dropkick for his forward smash.

  • Adaptational Badass: Unlike how Multi-Mook Melee fighters typically work in Smash, they're able to use special moves (they don't have Final Smashes, though).
  • Composite Character: The Green Alloy retains Kirby's normal moveset, but borrows Jigglypuff's Rollout and Pound for a couple of its special moves.

Home series: Golden Sun
Debut: Golden Sun (2001)

  • Ascended Extra: Went from being an Assist Trophy in the official games to a playable fighter.
  • Stance System: His Down Special, Djinni Boost, lets him equip one of four Djinn, one for each element in the series, each of which provides a different buff for him:
    • Mercury heals him, and lets Isaac heal himself even more by hitting opponents with his temporary Down Special, at the cost of temporarily reducing his weight.
    • Mars buffs moves involving his sword, including his temporary replacement Down Special.
    • Venus buffs moves involving Psynergy.
    • Jupiter makes him a Fragile Speedster.

    Knuckles
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/project_knuckles_render.png
Jet Set Radio Knuckles (P+)
Treasure Hunter Knuckles (P+)

Voiced by: Dan Green

Home series: Sonic the Hedgehog
Debut: Sonic 3 & Knuckles (1994)

"Bring it on! I'll take 'em all down!"

A red echidna from Angel Island and guardian of the Master Emerald. Knuckles was introduced as an antagonist, having been told by Dr. Eggman into thinking that Sonic and Tails were planning to steal the Master Emerald, only to find out what's really going on when Eggman betrayed him and stole the Emerald himself, forcing him to ally with Sonic and Tails to stop him. Since then, he would become one of Sonic's chief friends and oldest rivals, although owing to his status as a guardian, he's kept out of the action most of the time.

Knuckles was one of the few planned newcomers for Project M, but his development went into limbo after Project M ceased its own development on December 1, 2015. He would eventually be playable in its successors, Project+ and PMEX Remix.

In battle, Knuckles fights using his strength and the spikes on his gloves, which he uses to dig and climb walls, and he can glide for long distances via his dreadlocks.

  • Ascended Extra: Went from being a background character and Assist Trophy in the official games to a playable fighter.
  • Badass Boast:
    • "Now you know my strength!" He says this when performing his Final Smash or when the player performs his Easter Egg taunt.
    • "No contest!", boasted in one of his victory animations.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Well, his name is Knuckles.
  • Battle Intro: Glides onto the stage and throws a punch.
  • Bring It: His side taunt has him punch towards the screen and end in a fighting pose while shouting "Bring it on!"
  • Dig Attack: When on the ground, his neutral special is Dig, allowing him to burrow underground. He can move underground for as long as the input is held, upon which he'll burst out with an uppercut.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Being the mountain to Sonic's wind, a few of his moves are this.
  • Easter Egg: His push-ups down taunt will loop as long as the input is held. Inputting the up taunt as the animation ends will have him shout the aforementioned Badass Boast as he backflips and then raises his right arm in the air.
  • Elemental Punch: His forward and up smashes imbue his fists with fire.
  • Ground Punch: Grounded side special is Diving Punch, which has him leap up and punch into the ground. Additionally, one of his victory poses has him jump on scene with this.
  • Leitmotif: His theme from Sonic & Knuckles plays during his Project+ reveal trailer, specifically the Sonic Mania Adventures remix. It also plays during the character roll call upon clearing Classic or All-Star Mode with him.
  • Lightning Bruiser: While slightly lacking behind Sonic in speed, Knuckles makes up for it through the raw power in his attacks and weighing heavier than him, although his weight is somewhere in the middle among the cast.
  • Limit Break: Super Knuckles, his Super Mode achieved via the power of the Chaos Emeralds. Gameplay-wise, it functions identically to Super Sonic.
  • Meteor Move: Down aerial and the later hitboxes of forward aerial can meteor smash. His Diving Punch is also a spike.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • His render for Project+ and PMEX Remix bears a resemblance to his Sonic Adventure 2 artwork.
    • Him having alts based on Espio, Vector, and Charmy (see Palette Swap below) wasn't just there to fill the rest of his palette swaps; the Team Chaotix trio debuted as playable characters in Knuckles' own game.
  • Not Quite Flight: He can glide around in the air via side special. While gliding, he can cancel it into a jump, an aerial, a Spring Jump, or a Diving Punch.
  • Oh, Crap!: Yells "Oh no!" for one of his being KO'd quotes, taken from Sonic Adventure.
    • In his instance, this is the only instance where Dan Green's clips are not recycled, but rather one of Michael McGaharan.
  • Palette Swap: A few of his alternate costumes are references to other Sonic characters: his white recolor is based on Mecha Knuckles, his maroon recolor is a reference to the Knuckles Clan from Sonic Adventure; his purple semi-alt is based on Espio the Chameleon; his light green semi-alt is based on Vector the Crocodile; and his orange semi-alt is based on Charmy Bee. His pink recolor, meanwhile, is inspired by his Sonic 3 & Knuckles sprite. Finally, his gear from Sonic Adventure 2 appears as his R-secret costume in Project+ and one of his base alts in PMEX Remix.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Serves as his rapid jab.
  • Red Ones Go Faster: Inverted. Despite having Super-Speed to some degree, he still pales in comparison to Sonic or Captain Falcon.
  • Rolling Attack: Uses Spin Charge as his down special like Sonic, dealing more damage at the cost of speed.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In Project+, Knuckles gets an outfit based on a Jet Set Radio character, just like Sonic. While Sonic's is based on Beat, Knuckles' is based on Garam. This costume also comes with green, blue, brown, and black recolors that reference Yo-yo, Tab, DJ Professor K, and Slate respectively. In PMEX Remix, he gets Yo-yo's outfit while Shadow gets Garam's instead.
    • In a video by Project M Nexus detailing the history of Knuckles' development process in Project M/+, a few of his moves not taken from his own series (such as most of his tilts and all of his throws) instead take inspiration from various fighting game characters, primarily Dudley and Heihachi.
  • Signature Headgear: His cowboy hat from Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie appears as part of his Treasure Hunter attire from Sonic Forces: Speed Battle in Project+ and as one of his base costumes in PMEX Remix.
  • Signature Laugh: His infamous chuckle from his debut game appears as his up taunt.
  • Spring Jump: Shares Sonic's Spring Jump. Since he bounces off a yellow spring, he doesn't jump as high, which is a nod to his games where yellow springs send the player less distance than red springs.
  • This Is a Drill: When in the air, neutral special becomes Drill Claw, spiraling downwards into the ground. Holding the input while landing will transition into Dig.
  • Use Your Head: Attacks with headbutts for his up aerial and forward throw.
  • Wall Crawl: Gliding onto a wall will have him stick to it with the spikes on his gloves, allowing him to climb up.
  • Wall Jump: Can perform this along with the aforementioned wall cling.

    Louie

Pikmin voiced by: Kazumi Totaka

Home series: Pikmin
Debut: Pikmin 2 (2004)

Insert here.

  • Canon Foreigner: He gets a unique green Pikmin that seems to include features of a Skitter Leaf, supposedly representative of the parasitic Pikmin that attaches to a Bulborb to make a Bulbmin.
  • Moveset Clone: Instead of the traditional Pikmin, Louie uses more atypical Pikmin like the Mushroom Pikmin and the Bulbmin. His up special also uses Bumbling Snitchbug to fly.

    Lyn

Voiced by: Makiko Ohmoto

Insert here.

  • Ascended Extra: Went from being an Assist Trophy in the official games to a playable fighter.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Her Down Special, Vantage, requires absolutely precise spacing (read: One end of the Poké Ball to the other on Pokémon Stadium 2) to input, otherwise she'll just sit still for a second. But if you do pull it off, she'll perform a very powerful attack.

Voiced by: Tim Watson

Metal Face is the iconic Starter Villain of Xenoblade Chronicles. Originally Mumkhar, a Homs (human) who was one of Dunban's war comrades, he was a bloodthirsty, conniving snake from the very start and would be captured and transformed into a Face Mechon. Some time later, he would kill Shulk's close friend Fiora in cold blood, prompting the boy's quest for revenge. Originally a stage boss in the Smash games, Metal Face has been Promoted to Playable in EX.

    Metal Mario
Home series: Super Mario Bros.
Debut: Super Mario 64 (1996) (as a powerup), Super Smash Bros. 64 (1999) (as a seperate character)

Appearing as an alternate character select option for Mario, Metal Mario provides techniques both old- and new-school to better seperate himself from his flesh-and-blood counterparts.

  • Ground Pound: His down aerial is the butt-first ground pound.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Metal Mario's intro animation is reminiscent of his introductory cutscene in Melee's Adventure Mode.
    • Performing the Super Jump Punch produces Red Coins, which were at their most importance in the Metal form's debut game, Super Mario 64.
    • While functionally similar to the Mii Fighter's Shot Put special in 3DS/Wii U, his neutral special can bring to mind the Superball from Super Mario Land.

  • Divergent Character Evolution: His fanon design based on the live-action commercial is used here to visually distinguish him from Ness. His canonical, more Ness-esque design is also available as a Palette Swap, and regardless of how similar the two look, Ninten is not a Moveset Clone of Ness.

    Nu- 13
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/00_standard_blazblue.png
Unarmored form
Ragna cosplay
Yasogami High uniform

Voiced by: Cristina Valenzuela

Home series: BlazBlue
Debut: BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (2008)

"No matter how many times you try, the outcome will always be the same."

Nu is a combat cyborg, dubbed a "Murakumo Unit", who is designed to be able to wield the Nox Nyctores Murakumo. She is programmed to explore the strange dimension called the Boundary and find the Amaterasu Unit. Seemingly an emotionless Robot Girl, she shows a human side when Ragna the Bloodedge is around, albeit in an unhealthily obsessive manner.

Using her Murakumo, she can attack with a set of flying swords that she can manipulate in various ways, and she can also summon more blades with her Sword Summoner ability to attack foes further away.

  • Air-Dashing: This is a central mechanic in her home series, and she has it here with Act Parser as her aerial side special, which can be canceled into any action.
  • Artificial Human: She's a Boundary Interface Prime Field designed to explore the Boundary. Like her fellow Murakumo units, she was created using Ragna's sister Saya as a base.
  • Battle Intro: Spreads her flying swords outward as she says "Murakumo Unit: activate".
  • BFS: She summons a giant sword for her Calamity Sword forward smash. Her Final Smash, Sword of Destruction, summons a more massive sword.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Her armored form sports two small blades underneath her forearms.
  • The Comically Serious: Being a mostly stoic Robot Girl doesn't stop her from being subject to Smash's wacky antics, like slipping on banana peels or swinging Hammers in a wild fashion.
  • Cyber Cyclops: Sports a visor in her armored form.
  • Dark Action Girl: The first one introduced in her home series, and one of two villainous females on this mod's roster, the other being Dark Samus.
  • Deadly Disc: Sickle Storm launches a spinning scythe along the ground as her grounded down special. She can alternatively send it rolling backwards to catch her foes off guard.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: Many of her attacks come in weak hits and lengthy combos to rack up damage.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Thanks to the amount of seithr pumped into her right eye, she wears an eyepatch over it, which is also a seithr regulator. Like with Wolf, its design varies on her costumes, being a cybernetic eyepatch for her unarmored and Ragna cosplay costumes and a white regular eyepatch for her school uniform costumes.
  • Flying Weapon: Her trademark eight flying swords form wings on her back when not in use. She commands them to slice and dice her foes in various ways.
  • Glass Cannon: A fast fighter that can rack up damage efficiently with low weight to balance it out.
  • Gravity Master: Down smash is Gravity Seed, which can confine her opponent to a specific point on the ground.
  • Invocation: When catching someone with her Final Smash:
"O silver blade forged from the depths of the beyond, heed my summons and purge those who stand in my way. Return to nothingness."
  • Kick Chick: If there are attacks where she uses kicks, the legs are sharp enough to cut her foes.
  • Limit Break: Sword of Destruction, her Astral Heat from her home series. When it connects, it transitions into a cutscene where she chants the invocation mentioned above as a gargantuan sword is summoned from a dimension to plunge down on her opponents. Getting caught by it is a One-Hit Kill.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Has exceptional tools to keep her opponents at a distance while unleashing a flurry of blades from different angles, but has limited options when fighting someone up close.
  • Machine Monotone: She speaks with an electronically distorted Creepy Monotone (sometimes with Robo Speak)...except when thinking about Ragna.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Going off the above, she shows less emotion in her heavy knockback and KO quotes than the other fighters.
    "Pain."
    "Waste of effort."
  • Meteor Move: Calamity Sword (forward smash) and Crescent Sabre (aerial down special) can meteor smash.
  • Mystical White Hair: A white-haired Prime Field Device capable of traversing the Boundary.
  • Palette Swap: In both her armored and unarmored forms, she has alternate color schemes resembling her sister Lambda-11, Alpha-01note , Justice, and Penny Polendina. She also has Ragna's outfit as an alternate costume with its own recolors for Team Battles.
  • Power Floats: She doesn't bother with walking, except when carrying heavy items like barrels.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Both her normal eyes and Cyber Cyclops visor are red. Which means one should take warning by not being near her when Ragna's around.
  • School Uniforms are the New Black: Inspired by the ending to Episode P4A in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, she has a Yasogami High School uniform as an alternate costume, which comes in winter and summer variants.
  • Space Master: Can manipulate the fabric of space to summon blades from anywhere.
  • Storm of Blades: This fighting style cements her effectiveness as a Long-Range Fighter.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Nu has white hair and is programmed to eliminate anyone deemed hostile. While she does have feelings for Ragna, she also wants to merge with him to form the Black Beast and destroy the world.
  • Yandere: She's madly infatuated with Ragna, who doesn't reciprocate her feelings. The fact that she's a clone of his younger sister Saya makes it even creepier.

Underfell Sans

Home series: Undertale
Debut: Undertale (2015)

A sardonic skeleton from Snowdin with a propensity for puns and pranks who speaks in Comic Sans. He lives with his younger brother Papyrus (who appears as a stage cameo) and is much more than his slacker-like exterior would suggest. Originally a Mii Costume in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sans graduates to a full-fledged fighter in PMEX Remix ready to give foes a bad time, complete with an alternate costume based on the Underfell AU.

  • Annoying Arrows: Not actual arrows, but Sans' basic bone attack (neutral special) can be used to similar effect, racking up damage on foes while preventing them from closing in on him.
  • Ascended Extra: From a Mii costume in Ultimate to a full fighter in EX.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Sans may look and act like a lazybones, but he is one of the most powerful forces for good in the Underground.
  • Dem Bones: He's a living skeleton and uses bones in many of his attacks, just like in his boss fight in Undertale's Genocide route.
  • Frickin' Laser Beams: He can summon Gaster Blasters that fire lasers from their mouths, another element from his boss fight that was adapted to Ultimate by giving him a Gaster Blaster Arm Cannon.
  • Irony: Despite being a Truer to the Text Smash Bros. adaptation of Sans than his Mii costume in Ultimate, he has full skeleton hands, a detail that Toby Fox specifically requested to be changed to mitten-like hands for his Ultimate costume.
  • Leitmotif: "MEGALOVANIA", the most famous song from Undertale and Sans' boss theme. It returns as a track for the two Undertale stages but also serves as Sans' victory theme and Classic Mode credits theme.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Sans is primarily a "keep-away" fighter, fitting with his original boss fight where he was very evasive and couldn't be hit at all by the player until the very end. He uses his bones and Gaster Blasters to harass foes from a distance and make sure they can't get into close quarters with him.
  • Mighty Glacier: Fitting with his slacker lifestyle, Sans has slow mobility and is somewhat heavy for his size, but can dole out a ton of damage while keeping his foes away.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • All of Sans' attacks are straight from his Final Boss fight in Undertale, and his main method of attacking (throwing Stock Femur Bones at the opponent) is his most common attack in said fight.
    • For his side taunt, he pulls out a trombone and plays the "sad trombone" song/noise, like he did during the player's date with Papyrus in his house. The same sound is used for one of Sans' KO screams.
    • His down taunt has him drink ketchup, a nod to his date with the player at Grillby's.
  • Palette Swap: His default costume has palette swaps based on Frisk, Chara (complete with Blush Sticker), Papyrus, Toriel and Alphys, along with one colored like his black-and-white battle sprite.
  • The Voiceless: Even though he had Voice Grunting in Undertale, he only uses it for his up taunt and one of his "pain" screams, expressing himself through his body language and expressions.

    Sub-Zero

Voiced by: Steve Blum

Home series: Mortal Kombat
Debut: Mortal Kombat II (1993)

Real name Kuai-Liang.

  • An Ice Person: They don't call him Sub-Zero for nothing.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • One of his taunts has him pull out a snowman jack-in-the-box, which was a Friendship that belonged to Classic Sub-Zero/Bi-Han in Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
    • His Final Smash is Sub-Zero I's Bowdlerised Fatality from the SNES port of Mortal Kombat (1992).
  • Palette Swap: Sub-Zero has additional colors that reference the various palette swap ninjas of Mortal Kombat (Ermac, Reptile, Scorpion, Smoke, and Rain). On top of that, he has two different types of models, one based on Mortal Kombat 3, and one from Mortal Kombat X.
  • Slide Attack: One of his special moves from his home series that he brings here.

Home series: Metroid
Debut: Metroid (1986)

Another version of Samus without her iconic Varia Suit, combining traits of her Power Suited and Zero Suited incarnations. She appears as an alternate character select option for Varia-suited Samus. Originally designed for Smash 2, another Brawl mod designed to look and play like an expansion of Super Smash Bros. Melee, her appearance is based on the "Samus Unmasked" Melee trophy and her sprites from the ending of Super Metroid, basically being what Zero Suit Samus would be if she were designed in 2001.

  • Amazonian Beauty: Suitless Samus has visible abs that not even her Zero Suit form has.
  • Arm Cannon: She keeps her arm cannon in a similar manner to the infamous "Justin Bailey" cheat code from Metroid.
  • Expy: She is a different take on the suitless Samus concept, much like Toon Link is to Young Link. However, unlike those two, she is the same person as vanilla Samus and Zero Suit Samus - giving Samus more playable variations than Mario (even when not counting Dark Samus), especially considering that Zero Suit Samus herself has two variations.

Biker Waluigi
Mario Strikers outfit

Voiced by: Charles Martinet

Home series: Wario (actually Super Mario Bros.)
Debut: Mario Tennis (2000)

"Heh heh! Waluigi's number one!"

A sneaky, devious purple-clad man with an intense hatred for/obsession with Luigi (it's hard to tell). He and his partner in crime Wario get up to all sorts of mischief in the Mushroom Kingdom, albeit mostly in spin-off adventures.

In successors to Project M, such as Legacy XP and PMEX Remix, despite not appearing in the Wario series proper, Waluigi is treated as a Wario universe character to match his "brother", and uses an appropriately zany and tricky fighting style.

  • The Artifact: As an intentional design choice, he's treated as a Wario universe character, sharing Wario's series icon and victory theme, despite not having made major appearances in any Wario Land or WarioWare games. Likewise, Wario retains the classic yellow and purple plumber outfit for his default costume, making the two of them a more obvious pair. He's placed in the same "universe" as Wario more for his association with the fat bastard and less for his actual appearances to date.
  • Ascended Extra: He's been an Assist Trophy in every Smash game since Brawl, but mods like Legacy XP and REMIX turn him into a fully playable character.
  • Assist Character: His Final Smash, Game, Set, & Match, has him participate in a final set of a tennis match with Harry as the two rally the opponent like a tennis ball back and forth.
  • Attack Reflector: His forward tilt can reflect projectiles. The reflected projectile's speed depends on where the move was angled.
  • Battle Intro: Pops out of his Assist Trophy as he says, "Waluigi time!"
  • Dance Battler: His fighting style is dance-themed, especially with his down special, Mischief Step.
  • Dastardly Whiplash: He's basically a dead ringer for the Trope Namers, both in terms of looks and personality.
  • Demoted to Extra: Prior to version 0.95DX, the Piranha Plant, a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, was relegated to Waluigi's down special move.
  • Easter Egg: When posing after performing his down smash, holding the up taunt button while pressing the standard attack button five times and then pressing the special move button four times will have him flash white as he shouts "Waluigi time!", which allows him to use his secret up taunt.
  • Fighting Clown: Like Wario, his fighting style is zany, quirky and weird. His neutral special has him shout a visible "WAAAAAAAA!" to damage foes and his side special has him literally swim through the air while yelling his name.
  • Improvised Weapon: Part of his wacky fighting style, utilizing tennis rackets, golf clubs, Dice Blocks, and potted Piranha Plants at his disposal. As of version 0.95DX, the tennis racket is the only one of his weapons that remained for his rework.
  • Instant Flight: Just Add Spinning!: Downplayed with the aerial jump input of Mischief Step, in which he pulls out his tennis racket and spins it around like a helicopter. He can ascend in height when hitting an opponent at the start of the move, but will otherwise gradually descend, albeit slowly as long as the move is held.
  • Lean and Mean: He's tall, lanky and a devious trickster.
  • Moonwalk Dance: What he does for the shield input of Mischief Step. It helps to dodge opposing attacks but otherwise deals no damage.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Waluigi's old PMEX Remix render is a recreation of his artwork for the "Storm Chasers" minigame in Mario Party 3, though with the higher level of detail that being in a Brawl mod entails.
    • The aerial special input of Mischief Step has him perform the same pose when he performs a trick in the Mario Kart series.
    • The grounded attack input of Mischief Step is called "Destruction Dance", the name of the song that plays during his dance-off with Mario or Luigi in Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix.
  • Palette Swap:
    • He has a biker costume with its own recolors to match Wario's, and he also brings his attire from Mario Strikers Charged.
    • Harry during the Final Smash also wears different costumes that correspond to Waluigi's current costume. He wears his Mario Tennis 64 outfit for Waluigi's default overalls, his outfit from the Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis for Waluigi's biker outfits, and a hypothetical Mario Strikers design for Waluigi's Strikers outfits.
  • Pelvic Thrust: Yep, his crotch chop victory animation from Strikers made its way here. It's his way of telling his foes to "suck it".
  • Prehensile Hair: His mustache is used as a weapon for his up throw.
  • Random Effect Spell: His old Dice Block side special caused random effects to the opponent upon hit:
    • 1 simply hits them with no effect.
    • 2 has a wind effect that pushes them away with no damage.
    • 3 causes an explosion and gives them a Damage Over Time effect similar to the flower effect.
    • 4 electrocutes and temporarily stuns them, sending them away with weak knockback.
    • 5 buries the opponent.
    • 6 sends them flying with high knockback.
  • Slide Attack: If his forward smash is angled downwards, Waluigi will perform a sliding kick that can catch opponents otherwise out of reach off guard.
  • Something about a Rose: By performing the Easter Egg above, Waluigi's normal up taunt is replaced with him pulling out a rose. Pressing the attack button at the right time will have him throw it behind him as an attack similar to Dudley.
  • Sore Loser: He expresses his distaste for losing by sometimes shouting "I hate this game!" when KO'd. His applauding after a match is also sarcastic.
  • Spectacular Spinning: Befitting his nature as a Dance Battler, he uses a lot of spinning in his attacks, such as his down smash (a breakdance), his neutral aerial, his back throw (a Human Hammer-Throw), Twhirluigi (his up special, similar to Wario's Corkscrew), and the grounded attack and aerial special inputs of Mischief Step.
  • Wall Jump: He can perform this if he uses Waluigi Swim towards a wall.
