Heroes

The new heroes who join Mario and his friends on their new adventure (some more reluctantly than others).

    Bowser
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_bowser.png
TROUBLEMAKER, MIGHTY, GREEDY, ANGRY HERO

Voiced by: Kenny James

The King of the Koopas. After losing control of his minions due to Cursa's mind control, and unable to fight against the forces of Cursa by himself, he teams up with Mario and company to get some payback.

  • Anti-Structure: His arsenal is built around this. His main weapon, Bowzooka is an explosive weapon, meaning it ignores enemy cover as well as causing damage to it. With the "Demolisher" skill, the Bowzooka can even instantly destroy any destructible covers. His technique, "Rabbid Mechakoopa" tracks enemy and explode, goes around the enemy cover. With upgrades, the explosion also comes with the burn super effect, forcing an enemy to become exposed without cover. (Though ideally, you want a Fire-based Spark attached so that Bowser isn't affected by Burn himself.)
  • BFG: Befitting a guy all about being a big badass, the Bowzooka is a massive bazooka that's huge even compared to Bowser's large and bulky frame, to the point that nobody but him can even lift it due to just how heavy it is.
  • The Big Guy: He is by far the strongest member in terms of sheer physical might. In-story, it's noted that he's the only one who can use his signature weapon, the Bowzooka, by virtue of it being far too heavy for anyone else (especially Rabbid Mario, the original intended user) to lift. It must be noted however that in gameplay, Bowser's large size can actually occasionally cause him to get stuck between an enemy and any kind of structure if he dashes past an enemy and then can't squeeze back past unlike the rest of the team.
  • Enemy Mine: He's teaming up with Mario once more, thanks to Cursa taking his minions away from him. Once the day is saved, he immediately goes right back to his evil self and also doesn't show up in the final cutscene of "Rayman in the Phantom Show".
  • Mighty Glacier: He can't move very far, but that shell is hardly for show given how much damage he can soak up, and he's a mighty damage dealer as well.
  • The Minion Master: As the "Overlord", he has the ability to send out his remaining minions to attack for him or act as decoys that take the hit from any activated enemy Sight abilities.
  • Promoted to Playable: He was a last-minute threat that almost immediately got possessed by the Megabug last time around, but here he's on your side.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Bowser is introduced in the middle of a fistfight with Bedrock. They're roughly even at first, but Bedrock eventually gains a firm upper hand by throwing Bowser into the Darkmess Dimension where he can't fight without a Spark-based weapon, necessitating JEANIE teleporting in the Bowzooka for Bowser to even the odds.

    Edge (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_edge.png
STRONG, INDEPENDENT, CONFIDENT, PROUD HERO

Voiced by: Lexie Kendrick, Audrey Sourdive (French), Maddalena Vadacca (Italian), Toa Yukinari (Japanese)

Edge (also referred to as Rabbid Edge) is a mysterious female punk/goth-inspired Rabbid introduced in Sparks of Hope, described as "Cool and Independent" she is motivated by her mission to save the Sparks from Cursa. Unlike the other playable Rabbid characters, she is not based on an existing Mario character.

  • Always Accurate Attack: Her Flying Blade will always ignore partial cover.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: She very frequently crosses her arms, but she definitely uses this as a victory pose with a smile to match.
  • Badass Boast: She delivers an epic one when she confronts her Darkmess Clone in Cursa's stronghold.
"Cursa's got NO idea what I'm made of... ...but I'm gonna show it."
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Edge is mostly quiet and reserved, but she is not to be underestimated. Once you threaten a Spark, or her allies in front of her, and she gives a Death Glare or a crazed grin with her Flying Blade in hand, that is when you know you have crossed the big line. Expect the worst to happen.
  • BFS: Her sword is about as big as she is, and Flying Blade can be upgraded to make it twice as big when in flight.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Twinkle is cornered by several Stooges that are trying to capture it and one of them tries to get a jump on it, Edge throws her Flying Blade to slay it, before coming out of the waterfall and takes out the rest of the Stooges, saving Twinkle.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Edge has large forked eyebrows similar to Bowser's that make her look fearsome and imposing, which fits her personality well.
  • Bring It: Being the tough girl she is, there is a chance that she will say this when enemies target her when it is their turn.
  • The Comically Serious: She acts entirely too serious at times. For example, in a scene in Beacon Beach, where the other characters are dancing to the beat of a Rabbid DJ, Edge is just standing off to the side with her arms crossed, unimpressed.
  • Creepy Good: She definitely fights on the side of good since defecting from the Spark Hunters, but that is not to say that she still has her intimidating traits and mannerisms, such as her laugh and anytime she gives an imposing grin or a dangerous smile.
  • Curse Cut Short: Once Daphne reveals herself upon imprisoning her and her friends in the Darkmess Dimension while also holding Momma hostage, Edge absolutely loses it and almost refers to her as something in a rage, before Daphne interrupts her.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's a punk/goth themed Rabbid who shows no fear and wields a giant sword which she can throw like a boomerang.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Edge was created by Cursa and was made the leader of the Spark Hunters, a group that captures the Sparks, so Cursa can absorb them to crush Rosalina's will, but due to her edge that allowed her free will, she saw how horrible Cursa was and tried to reform the Spark Hunters, but they end up shunning her from their circle of friends, resulting in Edge leaving them to save the Sparks. Even after joining Mario, she still holds on to her Dark Secret from them for a huge chunk of the game with hints of it being shown through their encounters with each Spark Hunter and confronting her about her origins will result in her snapping at them. She is clearly ashamed of her past when she reveals her origins to the heroes after defeating her Darkmess doppelganger and adding that she feared that they would stop trusting her if they knew about it. She is fortunate that, unlike her old pals, her new friends continue to treat her with kindness and compassion.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Even if she was created by Cursa who gave her the title as the leader of the Spark Hunters, Edge became more like this than straight up evil. Other than that, she is the most serious of the Rabbids who carries on a slightly cocky side while in battle, and is gruff for the most part, she genuinely just wanted to help protect the Sparks from her former master and allies.
  • Dash Attack: Not only she can perform up to 4 dash attack in one turn, with upgrades, her dash attack gets stronger after each dashing, and also increase area of movement.
  • Dub Name Change: Called "Rebella" in the German version.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Her proper debut shows her mercilessly slicing through the Stooges...before warmly gesturing to the Spark that they'll be safe with her, showing that deep down, she wants to do good.
  • Face Palm: One of her speaking animations has Edge doing this when she is flustered. Often accompanied with her other hand clutching either her chest or her tummy.
  • Finger Wag: Once Edge reveals herself in her proper appearance, she wags her finger at the Stooges to taunt them disapprovingly for trying to hurt Twinkle.
  • Foil: To Kanya, who both left the Spark Hunters. While she defected because of what Cursa was doing to Sparks and thus pulled a Heel–Face Turn, Kanya left because she felt that being a Spark Hunter meant being a lackey and thus went off to terrorize another planet on her own.
  • Friend to All Children: Edge definitely has a soft spot for the Sparks; to sum it up, the Luma stage for the original Lumas is the child stage in their species as established in their debut and are still considered this after merging with the Rabbids. After Edge defeats the Stooges, Twinkle is afraid of her, only for her to smile and stab her sword in the ground to show that she is not a threat.
  • Girls Stare at Scenery, Boys Stare at Girls: Downplayed. During DJ Cheep Tuna's dance party, Edge is the only one who does not dance and instead watching the party while Rabbid Mario casts a glance at her briefly, but neither of them actually speak in this scene.
  • Glove Snap: One of Edge's idle animations has her tugging at one of her gloves before releasing them. She also does this at the very beginning of The Last Spark Hunter DLC, and again when Cursa takes on its true form.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Her greater independence and free will granted to her by Cursa was intended to make her a more capable leader of the Spark Hunters, and by proxy help guarantee Cursa's victory over the galaxy. It instead just made her realize that she was on the wrong side, and ultimately turned her against her former allies to fight against Cursa's forces, thus putting an end to the threat.
  • Good All Along: This occurs twice; the first time is when she watches Mario and his friends go inside the Sunrise Temple she shushes and intimidates Augie when he saw her, which gave the impression that she has nefarious intentions, but once she reveals herself in her proper introduction, she attacks the Stooges instead of the Heroes and when Twinkle is scared of her, she shows it mercy to show she is not a monster. The second time is during the build up to The Reveal of her origins only seemed to hint that she was a Spark Hunter, through her interactions with the group, who would end up betraying Mario and his friends, it only turned out that she had already reformed from her old ways before she met them and wanted to help protect the Sparks from Cursa.
  • Grin of Audacity: There is no doubt that Edge pulls off several of those when she confronts her enemies, which is also evident that she shows absolutely no sign of fear when she is confronted by a Giant Wildclaw.
  • I Choose to Stay: Much like Rabbid Rosalina, when Rosalina gave her an option to go with her on the Comet Observatory, Edge believes that her old pals will be finding a new profession before deciding to stay with her new friends to see if she can't keep them in line.
  • I'm Not Afraid of You: Edge is fearless under pressure, even when dangerous enemies dare to challenge her, and it shows when a Giant Wildclaw jumps and lands a few feet in front of her. Her response to it trying to scare her is to give it a Death Glare before putting up a confident grin and snarls back at it.
  • Insistent Terminology: When Beep-O calls her "Rabbid Edge", she immediately corrects him that it's just "Edge".
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She has a gruff and aggressive attitude, but as first shown when she gently and caringly beckons a Spark to her, underneath the attitude is a well-meaning Rabbid who wants to protect everybody from Cursa's plans.
  • Master Swordswoman: Edge's defining trait as a Rabbid warrior, and she is extremely proficient with the Flying Blade, throwing it like a boomerang, while also wielding it normally. In fact, she is the only playable character who wields this weapon.
  • Meaningful Name: She's named Edge because that's what Cursa gave her: an edge, with just enough free will to think and lead.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: She has a few traits that distinguish her from other Rabbids, such as the lack of flesh coloring around her mouth and her sharp teeth. Also as mentioned in the description, she isn't Mario themed despite being playable.
  • Not So Above It All: While she's quite serious, one of her lines upon starting a battle is a quiet "Bwah!"
  • Not So Stoic: In spite of usually being unemotional, she joins everyone (save for Rabbid Rosalina) in a Mass "Oh, Crap!" moment. After she is revealed to have been the former Spark Hunter Commander, she sounds audibly somber and guilty as she tells her story.
  • Not Your Problem: She does not take kindly to anyone prying into her business and trying to interrogate her about her past connections with the Spark Hunters in a suspicious manner will set her off. She does get around to voluntarily admitting her past, though.
  • Oblivious to Love: Even with Rabbid Mario trying to win her heart and trying to make his crush known to her, Edge clearly does not pick up on this fact and instead gets annoyed.
  • The One Who Wears Shoes: She's one of the few Rabbids to avert their Barefoot Cartoon Animal status, wearing black boots that represent her more serious and "edgier" image.
  • Only Sane Woman: Out of all the Spark Hunters, Edge, being more free-willed and independent, is the only who knew fine well that Cursa is evil while the rest of the Spark Hunters remain loyal to it to the point where they betray Edge when she tried to help them see the truth about their creator. She also stands out from the rest of the Rabbid species by being one of the most mature and intelligent of them all. Even when she does sometimes gets annoyed by her Rabbid peers, even those in Mario's group, she remains patient with their antics and at the end of the game, she chooses to stay with them, so she can be there to keep her new companions in line.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite leaving the team, she still seems to care about her former friends Midnite and Bedrock, as she let the former go when she could’ve easily attacked her then and there and let the latter escape on a ship without returning her angry glare. Subverted with Daphne, who she clearly doesn't see as positively as the other two and vice versa. Averted with Kanya, who she does not even know due to the latter being created after she defected.
  • Scary Teeth: Unlike the rest of the Rabbids, who have only two top teeth, Edge has several sharp triangular teeth that adds to her foreboding nature, especially when she either laughs and grins or growls and holds her Flying Blade. It has effectively scared Augie and the crab on his head.
  • Speed Blitz: Stormblade, her Action Initiative ability, has her move blindingly fast to attack enemies. Compared to Hero Sight and its equivalents, it hits every enemy in range when any of them move, but it has significantly less range (7-11 meters compared to Mario's 21-27 or Luigi's 31-37 meters).
  • Spiky Hair: Edge has long black/green spiked hair that consistently stands up.
  • The Stoic: She rarely shows any emotion, and if she does, it is not expressed outwardly.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: She throws her sword like a boomerang as her main attack.
  • Token Heroic Orc: It's revealed late in the game that Edge was a Spark Hunter created by Cursa. In fact, she was their leader. However, her "edge," a greater degree of free will and independence to serve her in that regard, allowed her to see Cursa's greed and the misery it would cause. Once she saw that, she tried to warn her friends, but they didn't believe her, so she defected from Cursa's forces and did her best to protect the remaining Sparks.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Edge is easily the most tomboyish of the female Rabbids, being tough as nails who bravely fights to protect innocents, having a rather low deep voice, wearing her punk/goth themed outfit, with her purple shirt being torn at the bottom and her being a strong warrior who wields the Flying Blade and generally not fond of anything that girls usually enjoy, such as dancing and romance. Even then, she does not have any problems with having some girlish traits such as wearing earrings and eyeshadow.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's kind of hard to not mention that she's a former Spark Hunter.
  • When She Smiles: Edge is generally a serious character and any smiles she puts up tend to show a sense of confidence; but when it comes to ensuring the safety of Twinkle and Melodic Gardens' survival, it is one of the few occasions where her smiles are significantly sweet and gentle.

    Rabbid Rosalina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_rabbid_rosalina.png
HIGHLY EDUCATED, CULTURED, POISED, DROWSY HERO

Voiced by: Laurie Winkel (English), Valérie Bachère (French), Elisa Giorgio (Italian), Eriko Matsui (Japanese)

A Rabbid version of Rosalina.

  • Borrowed Catchphrase: She sometimes shouts Captain Orion's "Great horn spoon!" while in battle.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: A variant in the sense that Rabbid Rosalina does have a sense of drive, but her Sleepy Head disposition combined with putting all of her energy into studying and her goal of locating Rosalina on her own means she isn't exactly open to the idea of working on anything else. In the demo, she initially blows off joining them since she thinks they're looking for something else until Beep-O informs her and Orion that they have a common goal.
  • The Comically Serious: Trailers and the demo show that Rabbid Rosalina isn't necessarily tired, but just so hyper-focused on her own goals that she feels she doesn't have time to put effort into anything else. The demo in particular implies that all the books she reads are actually textbooks in various subjects, even doing this while under immediate threat by the Spark Hunters.
  • Critical Hit Class: Can have the second highest base critical rate of 80% after Luiginote , only needing one Critical Buddy Spark to get critical hits with every bullet.
  • Fangirl: For Rosalina, to the point that she joins the group purely to find her and offers her first genuinely non-drowsy smile at the sight of her, to the point that she needs to be carried out when Rosalina is recorrupted.
  • Foil: She's much the opposite of her Mario counterpart despite their similar backgrounds in cosmology; while Rosalina is more diligent in her duties and has a Missing Mom, Rabbid Rosalina is a Sleepy Head that often tries to shirk her responsibilities if she finds them distracting and has a living father figure in the form of Orion. Rabbid Rosalina's personality and voice also indicate she's considerably younger than the original. Also, while she eventually does have to leave her old life behind, she does so by choice, with Orion fully understanding of her decision.
  • For Want Of A Nail: She's best defined as a version of the original Rosalina that didn't have to lose everything to get her powers and duties (although she does eventually pack up and leave her old life to join the heroes.) As a result, Rabbid Rosalina is still plenty strong, but is more laid-back and has trouble registering the worry of others (including Orion) despite being able to have some sense of emotional investment.
  • Forced Sleep: Her Ennui ability allows her to put nearby opponents to Sleep.
  • Gatling Good: Her weapon, the Kaboomer.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Her main weapon takes the form of a Spark doll with a little surprise for any unsuspecting opponent.
  • Go Through Me: During the final battle, when Cursa is still alive after Rosalina strikes it the third time, Rabbid Rosalina walks in front of her friends and stretches out her arms to protect them.
  • I Choose to Stay: During the ending, Rosalina herself offers to take Rabbid Rosalina with her on the Comet Observatory, but as much as she really wanted that, she decides to turn down the offer since she already found family in her new friends and considered them family, even if she found them to be a weird bunch that gets on her nerves.
  • My Little Panzer: The Kaboomer might look like an ordinary doll, but it's actually a powerful weapon.
  • Sleepy Head: Always drowsy and generally acts and sounds rather drained because of it.
  • Squee: Getting to see Rosalina after she manages to separate herself from Cursa (briefly the first time, permanently the second) is the only thing that gets her to make this reaction.

    Rayman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/506px_mrsoh_rayman_artwork_2.png
The Returning Limbless Wonder

Voiced by: David Gasman (English), Sébastien Mineo (French), Stefano Pozzi (Italian), Fumihiro Okabayashi (Japanese)

A limbless hero, the Guardian of the Glade of Dreams, and an old frenemy of the Rabbids. Rayman was first revealed on September 10th, 2022 as part of a Ubisoft Forward event. Rayman is the main protagonist of the Rayman in the Phantom Show DLC, released on August 30th, 2023.

  • Art Evolution: Rayman's design for Sparks of Hope takes cues from his appearance in 3D trailers for Rayman Legends (and, by proxy, his appearance as a Trophy in Super Smash Bros.), and combines them with elements from his designs from Rayman 2: The Great Escape (his general head shape, his shoes being more detailed takes on his shoes from Rayman 1 and 2, and include purple detailing a la the UbiArt games) and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (his hoodie now has pockets, the drawstring is bigger and uneven, and his hair is all orange rather than a red to yellow gradient). The costumes for the returning Vortex and Shock Rocket power-ups have also been re-designed to be distinct outfits rather than simple palette swaps, maintaining the originals' respective color schemes while also giving Rayman new hairdos and shoes.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: During the Phantom’s roast against him before the final battle, he’s referred to as a “flash in the pan, second fiddle to the Rabbids” who was “eclipsed by their company”, showing that Ubisoft is COMPLETELY aware of what they ended up doing to him.
  • The Bus Came Back: Over fifteen years since his last appearance in the franchise, at least ten years since the original release of his last non-mobile game and twenty years since his last non-2D platform game. The marketing for the DLC even emphasizes it as his big comeback!
  • Characterization Marches On: Rayman's personality here is much closer to how he appeared in Rayman 2 and 3, being a friendly, if somewhat cocky and egotistical, individual compared to how manic and slapsticky he was in Origins and Legends.
  • Enemy Mine: As the Rabbids started out as antagonists in his home series, he's likely to still hold some sort of grudge against them. In any case, though he gets on a lot better with Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Mario than he did any others, even if it takes him a bit to come around to them. By the end, he’s gotten over it somewhat after forming a genuine bond with Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Mario through their battles together, and fully recognizes that, aside from the Phantom, the Rabbids of the Space Opera Network wanted to do some genuine good and make some real entertainment, leading to his decision to stay there and help them do so.
  • Famed In-Story: If the Rayman in the Phantom Show DLC trailer's any indication, he's apparently "top-tier talent" these days.
    • Subverted in the DLC himself, where Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Mario, and Beep-O not only have never heard of him, but initially assume he’s just some random intruder or trespasser. In fact, the only reason the Phantom even invited him to the studio at all was because he wanted vengeance on him for previous defeats before the Rabbids made it big, and even mocks Rayman for being a “never was” in a musical roast against him.
  • Floating Limbs: As the Trope Codifier and former Trope Namer, it wouldn't be Rayman without them. Lampshaded when Rabbid Mario shakes his hand and Rabbid Peach pulls him and Rayman's hand away. She throws Rayman's hand back, then spends a couple of seconds invasively stress testing the floaty-ness. Naturally a part of his moveset both in combat and in the overworld, as special crates are littered around levels as obstacles only he can break.
  • Guest Fighter: From the Rayman series; especially notable given that this would be his first appearance in-series since the franchises were separated starting with Rabbids Go Home.
  • The Hero: Of the Rayman in The Phantom Show DLC, natch.
  • I Choose to Stay: At the end of the DLC, Rayman decides to stay at the Space Opera Network to help the Rabbids there make genuine entertainment without the Phantom’s control, essentially making him the closest thing the place has to an actual Warden.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Compared to the existing Mario and Rabbids characters, and given his trademark Floating Limbs, this was a given no matter which cast he was lined up with.
  • Mythology Gag: His moveset takes a lot of cues from his home series, including his trademark Helicopter hair, a plunger gun that harkens back to the early Raving Rabbids games, and redesigned versions of the Vortex and Shock Rocket power-ups from Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.
  • Promoted to Playable: Sparks of Hope marks the first time Rayman's been playable in the Rabbids series since Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, over fifteen years prior.
  • Rocket-Powered Weapon: The Rocket costume turns Rayman's plunger weapons into missile launchers and lets him use the Rocket Ride ability, which sees Rayman ride a remote-controlled rocket for a short time, knocking back enemies and obliterating cover as it travels.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: His role as the DLC's lead character has of this, at least at first. He seems apprehensive to even approach Rabbid Mario and Peach considering his history with their species, not helped by Rabbid Peach immediately pulling her gun on him, even hiding from the two before cautiously approaching them. When Rabbid Mario greets him, and Rabbid Peach backs off of her own volition after he scoots her away for invading his personal space, mind you, he seems very confused.
  • Tornado Move: The Vortex costume turns Rayman's plunger weapons into wind blasters that also knock enemies back and lets him pull nearby enemies towards him using the Vortex Pull ability.
  • The Turret Master: Of a sort. Rayman can summon Guards, essentially small plunger turrets that attack any enemies that move within their range of fire. They can be left where they're summoned or picked up and tossed to relocate them to a more advantageous position. Both of Rayman's costumes also have their own version of the Guards, with the Vortex Guards firing wind blasts that knock enemies back and the Rocket Guards firing explosive missiles.

Villains

    Cursa (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cursa.png
Click here to see Cursa's final form. (SPOILERS)

A dark being that wishes to consume Sparks for her own nefarious purposes.

  • All for Nothing: Even if nearly all the Sparks died near the end of the game, Rosalina simply brings them back to life because Spark energy can't be destroyed, only altered.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: After she possessed Rosalina, she turned the Comet Observatory into its stronghold.
  • Ambiguous Gender: It's unknown for sure what Cursa's gender is or if it really has a gender at all. Interestingly, the game uses gender neutral pronouns for it throughout most of the game, but then its Tacticam information in the second and final phases along with a line from Jeanie in the latter phase use female pronouns.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Cursa is absolutely massive to the point that one of her Astral Arms alone is larger than one of the heroes.
  • Big Bad: She is the main villain of Sparks of Hope.
  • Call-Back: The cutscene after her final defeat features one to Super Mario Galaxy as the Sparks save everyone from her desperation move just like how the Lumas save the imploding galaxy.
  • Coup de Grâce Cutscene: After the final battle, she's destroyed for good in a cutscene where all the heroes and the freed Rosalina combine their attacks with the Sparks to finish her off.
  • Create Your Own Hero: She gave Edge more independence and free will to be the Spark Hunters' leader. This allowed Edge to realize what a monster Cursa was and rebel against her.
  • Cyclops: She has one eye. One red eye. Which briefly turns blue when Rosalina retakes control - which makes it a subversion, as Rosalina has her other eye hidden behind her bangs.
  • Dark Is Evil: A powerful being of darkness who threatens the galaxy.
  • Demonic Possession: When Cursa attacked the Comet Observatory to feed on the Lumas, Rosalina performed a Heroic Sacrifice and put herself in between Cursa and the Lumas, causing the two of them to merge together. However, despite the possession, Rosalina is Fighting from the Inside to resist, causing Cursa to seek out and consume the Sparks to give her enough strength to take complete control.
  • Didn't See That Coming: When Cursa was creating Edge, it gave her the leadership role over the Spark Hunters and instills an edge inside of her to give her free will to lead and think as a leader should have and ensure complete victory over its conquest over the galaxy, but it does not consider the setbacks that come with it when Edge is able to tell right from wrong, and left to save the Sparks. It then created Kanya and gave her free will to take Edge's place as the leader of the Spark Hunters, but she also left, not to save the Sparks, but to prepare to conquer the galaxy and overthrow Cursa.
  • Dub Name Change: Called "Misera" in the German version.
  • Evil Counterpart: Whereas Rosalina takes care of and raises Lumas until they're able to transform, Cursa consumes Sparks for her own selfish goals, uncaring for their feelings. She even has one visible eye like Rosalina. This becomes appropriate when the story reveals that this is Rosalina, who was possessed by Cursa after sacrificing herself to save the Lumas.
  • Evil Is Petty: Part of her motivation. Rosalina, naturally, resists a Death of Personality after having merged with Cursa. Cursa, being the dominant side regardless and plenty powerful, wants to hunt down the Sparks and kill them in order to break her for resisting.
  • Floating Limbs: Like Rayman, her floating Astral Arms are detached from the rest of her body.
  • Giant Hands of Doom: In the first phase of the final battle, Cursa targets a hero with its Astral Arm, and another hero must raise a spike for her to slam down on.
  • Hijacking Cthulhu: You'd have to be pretty powerful to possess Rosalina, of all characters.
  • Hope Crusher: She wants to consume the Sparks in order to destroy what's left of Rosalina's hope, allowing her to fully take control.
  • Hypnotic Eyes: Her one eye can mesmerize Goombas and other creatures to do her bidding.
  • It Can Think: Cursa was once a small fragment of the Megabug after its defeat in the previous game, drifting through space with no mind of its own, but through merging with stellar debris, she became sentient and seeks the energies in the universe. Her creating her armies and the Spark Hunters as well as its knowledge of Rosalina being the adoptive mother of the Lumas really shows that Cursa is highly intelligent despite her origins.
  • Mook Maker: Similar to the original Supa-Merge incident, Cursa manufactures minions by fusing Rabbids into other objects using her Darkmess as a catalyst. Which is a reversal of its original modus operandi as the Megabug, which threw pre-existing Rabbid fusions at the heroes so that it could reclaim their energy when they were defeated. There's not many of those left anymore, so Cursa has to make her own.
  • One-Winged Angel: After the heroes manage to separate Rosalina from Cursa, she transforms into a more draconic creature that more closely resembles the Megabug from the previous game.
  • Purple Is Powerful: She wears a purple cloak.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When Cursa is in control of Rosalina, it has a single red eye that glows when it brainwashes someone or attacks its enemies.
  • Returning Big Bad: Cursa is actually a piece of the Megabug which regained sentience after absorbing enough cosmic energy.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute:
    • Cursa has quite a few similarities with the Shadow Queen from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Both of them are beings of darkness who have Floating Limbs that serve as their main form of attack, and both possess a character to gain a physical form.
    • Also somewhat similar to Dark Samus from the Metroid Prime Trilogy as both of them are more powerful and sentient reincarnations of bosses from previous games (Cursa after the Megabug, Dark Samus after the Metroid Prime) after consuming galactic energies to regenerate.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: In this silly game about rabbit people teaming up with Mario and co., Cursa is utterly vile. Sending her armies to conquer the universe, treats her minions like dirt, and her mission to wipe out the Sparks, not only for their power, but to break Rosalina's will by hurting her adopted children.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's kinda hard to not mention that it possessed Rosalina, and is the Megabug reborn.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Sparks are Lumas merged with Rabbids when Rosalina was taken, and as such, they are all children stages of galaxies. This has no factor in Cursa crushing them in her grip to drain their lives away. In fact, the fact that they're technically Rosalina's adopted children is exactly why Cursa is intent on going after them, to break her with despair and gain full control of their fused form.

    Spark Hunters

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sparkhunters_9.png
From left to right: Daphne, Midnite, Cursa, and Bedrock. Former members: Kanya and Edge

Lead by the mysterious dark being Cursa, this evil group seeks to find Sparks and reign over the galaxy.

  • Amazon Brigade: Every member of Cursa's inner circle is female, including Edge, at least until she defected.
  • Sixth Ranger: A memory log has JEANIE mention that there are four Spark Hunter statues in Cursa's fortress, but the fourth is damaged beyond repair. The fourth is the DLC fighter, Kanya, who resides in the Melodic Gardens.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The Spark Hunters disappear from the plot after Daphne's defeat. Edge at the end says they are going to be looking for a new line of work, implying they are at least still alive.

    Midnite
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_midnite.png
A ghostly Rabbid who is one of Cursa's Spark Hunters. She seems to have the most personal history with Edge, if her interactions are any indication.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: She's a ghostly Rabbid that's a lot cuter than the regular Rabbids, particularly the lack of exaggerated lips, a set of Cute Little Fangs, having strikingly vibrant eyes with prominent eyeliner, and when first met, she gives an endearing wink.
  • Dub Name Change: Called "Trauma"* in the German version.
  • Giggling Villain: She's constantly giggling whenever onscreen, especially during her fight.
  • Hypocrite: She chastised Edge for souring their friendship before her boss fight telling her that real friends do not just up and ghost them but they stick around, while she and the rest of the Spark Hunters were the ones who damaged their relationship by shunning and betraying Edge when she was just trying to help them see the light of how monstrous Cursa was.
  • King Mook: Despite them being absent in this game, Midnite is essentially the Peek-a-boos from the prequel refashioned into a boss, though with a couple of changes. Good for you, she doesn't have their long-range weapon or Magnet Dance. Good for her, what she gets in exchange is no movement limit and a better version of Rabbid Luigi's exhaust.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After her defeat, seeing Edge confront her, and spare her life, she remorsefully flees the scene.
  • My Nayme Is: The word "midnight", but given a shorter spelling.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Edge insists that she isn't a ghost despite her appearance and abilities. Her memory file reveals that she's a combination of Rabbid DNA and a cold chilly mist, indicating she's more of a cold wind given form.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Midnite is the player's introduction to the Spark Hunters and the first unique boss that isn't degraded. She can teleport to any acceptable spot on the map (avoiding Sight skills as she does), has an Area of Effect skill that drops the target's damage and move range, and on higher difficulties exceeds 3,000 HP and can take off half a party member's HP in one hit.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Apparently had some history with Edge in the past. She's also noticeably the most friendly towards Edge out of all the Spark Hunters, being openly coy and casual with her until Edge makes it clear that she isn't on their side anymore.

    Bedrock
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_bedrock.png
An oversized, cubular Rabbid who's the brute muscle of Cursa's Spark Hunters.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Considered this by Rabbid Mario, who calls her a "stone-faced but oddly attractive woman" in response to Edge's inquiry about Bowser.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: She was created from a block of granite complete with Rabbid DNA.
  • The Brute: Perfectly matches Bowser in size and strength. She's so evenly matched that she has to drag him into the Darkmess to gain an edge.
  • Dub Name Change: Called "Grrranita" [sic] in the German version.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Girlish blocktails technically, but they're there and appear to be blonde.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Even moreso than her fellow Spark Hunters, as in addition to lacking the usual flesh-colored area on her mouth, she's also built to resemble a walking stack of blocks with ears and a face instead of the usual Rabbid design.
  • Puzzle Boss: Conventional attacks do almost nothing to her. To properly damage her, the heroes must trick her into using her reactionary stomp move to detonate the explosive traps placed around the battlefield.
  • Tactical Suicide Boss: Every time you shoot her, she does a Ground Pound before running towards the person that shot her, allowing the player to trick her into activating explosives buried in the ground.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Like Midnite, she clearly knows Edge from somewhere and despite seeming more bitter about her defection, she looks just as sad and remorseful when Edge’s face doesn’t return the same anger to her while she’s escaping despite being the the opposing side now.

    Daphne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_daphne.png

Voiced by: Lee Delong (English), Laëtitia Lefebvre (French), Maddalena Vadacca (Italian), Farahnaz Nikray (Japanese)

A plant-like Rabbid who is one of Cursa's Spark Hunters. She is described as being the most devious of the Spark Hunters, and prefers to fight from a distance.

  • The Ace: Out of the Spark Hunters after Edge's defection, she's shown to be the most cunning and successful, bringing in multiple Sparks compared to the failure of her fellow Hunters. In addition, she manages to get the drop on Mario and his team by luring them in pretending to be the Warden Momma.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Compared to Bedrock and Midnite, she's a more blatant Jerkass who shows apathy to the Sparks being hurt, and doesn't seem to care for her fellows. In essence, if Bedrock and Midnite were a pair of Anti Villains, Daphne's a straight up villain.
  • Foul Flower: She's a combination of Rabbid DNA and a rare species of pink climbing rose and is by far the cruelest member of the Spark Hunters.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: The start of each phase has Daphne on a perch clear across the map, with you weaving through cover and enemies to reach her. Should she somehow be kicked out of her starting position, she'll move back to it when her next turn starts unless interrupted by a status effect.
  • It's All About Me: Daphne consistently puts her own needs and wants before her fellow Spark Hunters, and the fact that she had three Sparks on her and immediately gives them to Cursa rather than give one each of the Sparks to Midnite and Bedrock and her gloating at them when they get punished for failure, and mercilessly talking down to Edge really shows how self-centered she is.
  • Jerkass: Out of the Spark Hunters, she's probably the most unpleasant. While Midnite still had some degree of kindness in allowing Rabbid Rosalina to be around and about without being contained, and Bedrock had some respect for Bowser's sheer strength, Daphne is thoroughly condescending and cruel, not being nearly as unsettled as Midnite and Bedrock when Cursa drains a Spark of its energy and showing little if any care for her fellow Hunters, especially after they're punished for their failures. She is also the only former teammate of Edge's that doesn't have a Pet the Dog moment with her.
  • Glass Cannon: She doesn't actually have much HP for when you fight her, and it's very likely you'll kill her in a single turn. The main issue is actually getting to her while she snipes you from up high.
  • King Mook: To Scopers and Lone Wolves. Daphne is the sniper of the Spark Hunters... and a deadeye that will shoot you from clear across the map if you don't have solid cover between you and her perch.
  • Meaningful Name: In Greek mythology, Daphne was a nymph who turned into a laurel tree.
  • Poisonous Person: If someone ends their turn too close to her, she'll respond with poison rain all around her that inflicts the Ooze status.
  • Plant Person: Was created by Cursa from a fusion of a Rabbid and a rare species of pink climbing rose.
  • Total Eclipse of the Plot: A major mechanic in her fight is that after defeating her in a stage of her fight, she will force an eclipse in order to change her position.
  • Trick Bullet: Her primary means of attack is a Darkmess blast that can hit anywhere, with no upper limit on her range. If someone doesn't have full cover or a wall between them and Daphne, they will get shot. Should the cover be destructible, her blasts are powerful enough to destroy it in one hit.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Subverted HARD. Unlike Midnite and Bedrock, Daphne and Edge show little to no warmth and familiarity with each other at ALL, implying that they never really liked each other all that much even before Edge left the Spark Hunters.

    Kanya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kayna_render_1.png

Voiced by: Tiffany Hofstetter (English), Sarah Barzyk (French), Katia Sorrentino (Italian), Riho Sugiyama (Japanese)

A hot-tempered gadgeteer, Kanya was made after Edge defected. Seeing her role as a lackey as beneath her, she grew to despise Cursa and ran away to the Melodic Gardens. Kanya plans to overthrow Cursa and rule the galaxy herself.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Edge. Both were created by Cursa only to later defect from the Spark Hunters. But while Edge would join the heroes and help them save the galaxy, Kanya would plan on overthrowing Cursa to rule the galaxy herself. She also has similar design aesthetics, mainly the spiky black hair with colored accents and sharp teeth.
  • Fangs Are Evil: She's got a mouth full of bear trap-like teeth and is a definite villain.
  • Foil: She heavily contrasts with the previous Spark Hunter fought, Daphne:
    • While Daphne is The Dragon to Cursa and is exceedingly loyal to her, Kanya is The Starscream who betrayed her for her own evil plans.
    • While Daphne is a rather fragile sniper who prefers to stay away from the party, Kanya gets up close and personal and can soak up a lot of hits through her Humongous Mecha.
    • While Daphne only appears right before the fight with her to ambush you, Kanya makes her presence known early, and you actually fight her multiple times.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She can design a Humongous Mecha easily.
  • Mad Bomber: Her attacks and minions all revolve around explosives, and she has an insane personality to match.
  • Slasher Smile: Usually sporting a psychotic grin full of sharp pointy teeth.
  • The Starscream: She defected from Cursa and plans to overthrow her the moment she can find the opportunity.
  • The Unfought: Played with, as while all the other Spark Hunters were fought in straight up fights, Kanya's never directly battled outside of her Humongous Mecha.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Averted as she was created after Edge's defection.

Common Enemies

    Bowser's Minions
Troops who worked for Bowser until Cursa brainwashed them all.
  • Action Bomb: Bob-ombs, which attempt to come within range of your hero to blow you up. You can turn this against them by either blowing them up near another enemy or by dashing into them to pick them up and throw them.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: Giant Darkmess versions of the Goomba and Magikoopas can be fought as Optional Bosses.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: They've all been hypnotized by Cursa. This gives Bowser the incentive to go after her and even teams up with the heroes to stop her.
  • Invincible Minor Minion: There are encounters with Goombas that have pots stuck to them, which render them invulnerable to damage from weapons, Sparks and Techniques. The only way to beat them is to throw them off the stage, either by using a Dash to knock them over and picking them up or via the Splash Super Effect.
  • Mook Maker: Magikoopas will often summon lines of goombas to charge at you, leaving them alone for too long can result in the battlefield being swarmed if you aren't careful.
  • Zerg Rush: Regular Goombas may have low amounts of health, but because they appear in large groups, they are not to be ignored as they can easily deal a large amount of damage if an entire line of them connects with a hero.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Out of all of the races that Bowser has in his army, Bob-ombs, Goombas, Magikoopas, a Wiggler (as an unaffiliated boss brainwashed by Cursa) and Thwomps (attached to squashers as weapons) are the only ones that appear. Koopas are conspicuously absent, as are the large majority of others (apart from some cameos and set dressing).
    • What happens to them after beating Cursa isn't stated, as they still appear as hypnotized enemies for 100% completion, and Bowser stays on the heroes team.

    Stooge Variants
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stooge_mrsoh.png

Basic Darkmess troops created by Cursa, wearing a white mask and blue hoods.

  • Boring, but Practical: The Base Stooges generally only try to get to cover and assail heroes with volleys of projectiles, but since they're common enemies, they can surround you easy by using most of the same movement methods you can and add on to other foes attacks, which means they shouldn't be underestimated.
  • Dash Attack: The Sea Stooge variants can use a dash attack much like the heroes, which also causes the Splash effect and can knock a hero out of cover.
  • The Goomba: They are the first enemies encountered in the game, with low health, unimpressive damage, and no unique abilities.
  • Mooks: The standard enemies in the game and the default forces of Cursa in cutscenes.
  • Underground Monkey: Flamin' Stooges which inflict Burn on attack and Sea Stooges which inflict Splash on attack, both of which having higher stats than the basic variant.
  • White Mask of Doom: Their faces are covered by an Expressive Mask variant that has no lower jaw and no visible face behind it, making them generally look similar to Shy Guys. Notably, Cursa in its natural form has a similar mask, which makes it look like the Supa-Merge Headset of The Megabug while it had Spawny.

    Scoper Variants
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_scopers_memory.jpg

Animalistic wolfish enemies with long-range attacks.

  • Eyepatch of Power: Most have one to emphasize their sniper role.
  • Long-Range Fighter: They attack with two long-range sniper shots.
  • Savage Wolves: Sniper Rabbids with wolf-like appearances, who will gladly shoot you from afar and pick you off, and Lone Wolves punish any attempts to maneuver if their Evil Sight is up.
  • Underground Monkey: Lone Wolves, who only attack once unlike Scopers but can activate Evil Sight to attack any hero that moves (including one who is moved by an enemy effect, making them deadly in combination with Sea Stooges). Fortunately, you can see the range of Evil Sight during your turn.
  • Weak to Fire: They take extra damage from fire attacks, though they resist frostbite in exchange.

    Squasher Variants
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squasher_mrsoh.png

Large and burly foes with Thwomps on their backs.

  • Acrofatic: They are VERY chubby, but can leap up to higher levels and over cover to hit you.
  • Fat Bastard: They are quite hefty tubs of goo, and constantly sound like they are out of breath as they move and fight
  • Gonk: Their faces are quite ugly to look at, essentially being wide, fat Rabbid faces with pig snouts stuck on. Squashettes are a little more so as they also have thick makeup.
  • Goomba Stomp: Their only attack is to jump on a hero.
  • Ground Pound: Squashettes don't have to land on their targets to affect them, simply being in the area of effect allows them to send someone rolling with a Gust shockwave.
  • Hell Is That Noise: Instead of most gibbery or altered but otherwise well voice-acted sounds every other characters make, Squashers spend their battles making horrid squeals, snorts, groans, gasps and yells as they move and attack. It can get especially so when battles are focused around or have groups of them.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Squashettes are more powerful than their male counterparts, as they generate shockwaves from their jumps that knock any hero back, potentially sending them off the edge.
  • Sinister Swine: They appear to be Rabbids merged with pigs, and they are working with Cursa to spread Darkmess throughout the universe.

    Wildclaw Variants
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wildclaw_mrsoh.png

Massive tiger-like beasts that attack with a deadly melee claw strike. In essence, a Suspiciously Similar Substitute to the Smashers of the first game, though with many more tricks up the variants sleeves

  • Area of Effect: It's not usually noticed due to spreading out the heroes, but their claw attacks have a small shockwave that damages anyone in its radius.
  • Degraded Boss: A giant version of the basic variant appears as a boss shortly before they show up on the regular.
  • Friendly Enemy: One Spark allows a hero to summon a Wildclaw Ally to act as an independent unit on your side. Needless to say, while they tend not to use cover, they can be an absolute death sentence for enemies that you may need to ignore, with damage that can climb into the 1000s and 2000s.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Averted with Wildclaws and Deep Freezes, who fight with clawed gauntlets. Riptides and Magnafowls however fight with rubber fish and chickens respectively. Humorously, the latter two are on the more dangerous end of the four.
  • Mighty Glacier: Even the basic Wildclaw variant can rival your heavy hitters in pound-for-pound damage and health, but they cover very little distance during their movement, making them easy to avoid except in tight spaces.
  • Panthera Awesome: They are based on big cats and one of the most powerful enemies in the game.
  • Power Fist: They all carry massive melee weapons on one arm to bring on the hurt.
  • Smash Mook: The Wildclaws' claw attack does massive damage, but they don't have any fancy tricks besides charging at a hero when shot at. The other variants on the other hand....
  • Set a Mook to Kill a Mook: Downplayed. Any enemies that get caught in a Wildclaw's smash attack will also be damaged, but given the very small radius and the fact that there's no way to force a Wildclaw to focus on their friends means this isn't really reliable.
  • Stock Animal Behavior: All of them act like house cats rather than wild big cats.
    • When idle, they will occasionally sit down and use their weapon to groom themselves
    • When targeted, they get more alert, getting on their haunches while arching their backs up and flicking their tails.
  • Underground Monkey: There are light-blue Deep Freezes, which immobilize heroes so they can reach them during the next turn. Black Magnafowls can draw heroes in to strike them with their melee attack. Blue Riptides get angrier and stronger each time they are damaged in addition to charging at a hero. Each succeeding variant has better stats than the last, to the point where Riptides can have five-digit health pools at max level.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: The base Wildclaws and Riptides are a straightforward example. They take the behavior of Smashers from the first game, and while they have poor mobility and range, their aggressive nature means they can move closer during your turn when you strike them. Riptides in particular get damage boosts if you keep hitting them before taking them out. Subverted with Deep Freezes and Magnafowls, which have the same behaviors but have abilities to get enemies within range and reach further.

    Medician Variants
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_medicans_memory.jpg

Ghostly Rabbids that start appearing in Pristine Peaks, and gain more and more variants, often which have a skill paired with a passive effect from their thrown projectiles

  • Area of Effect: Ghostly Walkers can unleash omnidirectional blasts that have the Gust effect in addition to their normal attack.
  • Elite Mook: Each variant is fairly powerful (having health only surpassed by Wildclaw variants) and has unique effects.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Oozers will gladly inflict Ooze on you to poison you, while Depleters will steal your health to power themselves up.
  • Life Drain: Depleters are purple variants of the Medicians with the vamp effect, allowing them to gain health when they damage a hero, even during a Counter-Attack, and they deal enough damage to two-shot a hero in some conditions.
  • Mook Maker: Spellraisers can summon Stooges to assist them, though they deal lower damage than the others to compensate.
  • Mook Medic: Medicians tend to hang back and heal their allies although Shoot the Medic First is averted thanks to their low healing rate.
  • Power Nullifier: Oozers can stop heroes from either attacking or using skills and Sparks the next turn with their ability.
  • Punny Name: Spellraisers use their spells (and mooks) to raise hell, while Medicians are magical medics.
  • Shock and Awe: Medicians' attacks have the Shock effect, allowing their projectiles to damage a hero near the one directly struck.

    Golems
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_shockin_golem.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_tidal_golem.jpg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_flamin_golem.jpg
Exclusive to The Last Spark Hunter, these big, tough enemies come in three varieties: fire-using Flamin' Golems, water-using Tidal Golems, and electric-using Shockin' Golems. After defeat, the retreat into small eggs, which will allow them to revive should they not get destroyed by dashing into them.

    Fieldbreakers
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_fieldbreaker.jpg
Bulky Rabbids covered in Darkmess, they can rain down Darkmess energy to cover the parts of the arena and fire shots out of an Arm Cannon.
  • Arm Cannon: Have one on their right arms, allowing them to shoot at distant foes.
  • Bioweapon Beast: JEANIE speculates in her memory on them that they had their DNA altered after getting transformed by Cursa.
  • Trap Master: Can rain down poisonous puddles of Darkmess energy, dealing damage to any hero that steps through it.

The Wardens

Rabbids who have become the protectors of their respective regions throughout the galaxy.

    Augie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/augie_6.png

A massive Rabbid who defends Beacon Beach as its Warden...if he weren't a massive coward.

  • Big Eater: Augie is known to have reached second place in a bratwurst eating contest in his backstory. He also has food found around the island and in the temple as well.
  • Lovable Coward: Manages to come off as even more cowardly than Luigi. Though to be absolutely fair to him, the situation is very terrifying and probably far outside his usual comfort zone.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Augie appears for all intents and purposes to simply be a larger than average Rabbid, but claims to have divine parents and a brother who is the patron god of effortless victories, epic love poems, and glistening six pack abs. Augie himself doesn't appear to have any divine power but this could be due to being cast out by the family. But then one has to consider the Supa Merge incident being relatively recent, so either he was always the way he is, or more likely he's a Rabbid merged with something or someone merely claiming to be a demigod.
  • Paper Tiger: Augie's Establishing Character Moment shows him thrusting his weapon at the heroes... only for him to stop just short of hitting them and then the camera pans to him, revealing that he's shaking in fear.
  • Parental Favoritism: Augie has a brother, Perfectus. The guy happens to be quite The Ace, while Augie was a total buffoon, only excelling at things such as eating. His father blatantly favored Perfectus; in fact it is the point of a riddle, which is representative of Augie running away to find his own way, while his father gives Perfectus his approval.
  • Semi-Divine: Augie claims to be the son of demigod parents, and is treated as a protector deity by the Rabbids of Beacon Beach. However, the only one who can back that claim up to any degree is Augie himself. If true, be doesn't really appear to have any divine powers and his "regalia" are made of cardboard.

    Captain Orion
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captainorion.png

A large, burly Rabbid who serves as a father figure to Rabbid Rosalina. He effectively acts as the Warden of Pristine Peaks, a snowy mountainous area turned blizzard covered frozen wasteland.

  • Character Catchphrase: When surprised, he has a tendency to blurt out "Great horn spoon!"
  • Distressed Dude: Captured by Midnite while trying to find Rabbid Rosalina.
  • Good Parents: While he's initially afraid of Rabbid Rosalina getting hurt after she runs away from him, he eventually understands her choices and ultimately lets her go when she decides to join the player. And while Rabbid Rosalina has a hard time saying it out loud, she does return his adoration as a father.
  • Human Popsicle: He's first met following getting freed from a block of solid ice, which he got trapped in due to persistently trying to break into Midnite's castle and rescue Rabbid Rosalina, leaving him unable to escape when Pristine Peaks froze over.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after Orion, a very famous constellation, which is fitting for being a space captain.
  • So Proud of You: His parting words to Rabbid Rosalina before she leaves him to join the player.
Rabbid Rosalina: Captain Orion? Thank you... for everything. I promise to make you proud.
Captain Orion: You already have, child... You just take good care now. THAT'S an order.
    Rabbid Rosalina: Aye-aye, Captain.
  • Space Is an Ocean: Has this going on with his navy-style aesthetic, given the space theme of Sparks of Hope and him raising Rabbid Rosalina.
  • Tears of Joy: You can see his eyes welling up with these when he reunites with Rabbid Rosalina in a cutscene.

    T.S. Woodrow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/woodrow_6.png

A tall, dark-clothed Rabbid with a love for poetic speech and writing...mostly self-published, and strangely prone to causing accidents. He acts as the Warden of Palette Prime, a world known for pumpkin spice and poetry, and being in perpetual autumn.

  • The Bard: He's shown writing into a book multiple times, and he's oftentimes reciting his poetry to various objects, animals and people...to mixed results.
  • Giftedly Bad: He's considered famous in his community for his poetry, but given he "self-published", and the bizarre tendency for his poetry to cause harm to whatever he's focusing on, it's...clearly not very well received. Sometimes with literal damage involved.
  • The Jinx: Whenever he recites a poem, misfortune befalls anything nearby- Specifically this causes the heroes' space ship to suddenly crash land when he takes note of it entering the scene. In his past, he tried to prove that his poems were not in fact a vector for this phenomenon, but failed to produce positive results. Beep-O even mentions that there are over a thousand known instances of his poetry invoking bad luck, mostly causing various heavy objects to fall from the sky (including the moon at one point).
  • Rhymes on a Dime: He conveys any information in rhyme and poems, with JEANIE translating for him.
  • Totem Pole Trench: A one-man variation: He's the same size as just about any other Rabbid, but he's wearing stilts at all times to look taller as part of an outfit that started a disguise he wore to sneak into a poetry competition.

    Bea
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bea_3.png

A nurturing Bee-Rabbid Hybrid who acts as the Warden of Terra Flora. Unfortunately for her, Terra Flora has been stuck in the middle of a drought caused by the blockage of Mt. Spout, leaving the area without bloom, and Bea in a difficult position.

  • Animal Species Accent: Being part bee, her dialogue is peppered with z's.
  • Earth Mother: Her nurturing personality and aptitude in growing flora is shown in her introduction.
  • Nice Girl: Is a friendly woman, though with how far behind she and her team are on flower deliveries after things return to normal, she ends up having to cancel their vacation requests.

    Momma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momma_1.png

A mechanic Rabbid with a keen mind, a snarky disposition, and a thorough lack of patience with people who destroy her stuff. She is the final Warden, serving as the protector of the Barrensdale Mesa, a formerly abundant place turned desert due to Rabbids stripping the place of its resources.

  • Action Mom: While she's not an actual mother, the Rabbids of Barrensdale Mesa treat her as such due to her saving the Mesa Rabbids from an out of control monster mech they created. She earned her "Momma" moniker then, becoming the Mesa's Warden.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: The Rabbid equivalent, being a large (both in height and body type) mechanic with distinctly feminine features.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Puns aside, she's a genuinely brilliant mechanic who can create weapons powerful enough to destroy Cursa's defenses... and the weapon is a giant rubber duck bath toy with drills.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She is extremely sarcastic and snarky with the crew, although admittedly not without justification given they destroyed her advertisement balloon.
  • Southern-Fried Genius: She speaks with a distinctly Southern accent, and is noted as being a brilliant enough mechanic to create weapons that can penetrate the defenses of Cursa's stronghold.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Apparently, beef jerky. She originally came to Barrendale Mesa for a pit stop for beef jerky, she used her life savings to build a garage and jerky hut, and she taught the Rabbids how to be responsible in mechanical engineering, robotics, and jerky-making.

    Allegra
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mrsoh_allegra_happy.jpg

Voiced by: Kaycie Chase (English and French), Valentina Pollani (Italian), Aiko Okubo (Japanese)

An eco musician who acts as the guardian of the Melodic Gardens, she and her Dorrie friend are responsible for the biophonies the planet is famous for. She wields a tuning fork, with which she can affect the very ecosystem within the Gardens.

  • Action Girl: Compared to the Wardens of the other planets, Allegra is much more proactive toward potential threats to the Melodic Gardens. She is seen scouting Mario and his party when they first land, and accompanies them to find and free her captured friend. It is only through her assistance in the final battle against the Mecha King Bob-omb that the heroes manage to prevail.
  • Bioluminescence Is Cool: Her skin is capable of changing color to match her mood, though this ability is never seen.
  • The Glasses Gotta Go: When Allegra originally landed on the Melodic Gardens, she wore glasses and was dressed like a conductor for an orchestra. By the time the heroes encounter her, she has fully assimilated into the jungle lifestyle and at some point ditched her glasses. How well she can see without them is unknown.
  • Honorary True Companion: After the heroes manage to free the captured Dorrie, Allegra becomes instrumental in defeating Kanya's Mecha King Bob-omb.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Allegra wields a tuning fork almost as if it were a magic wand, affecting change within the Gardens depending on the frequency it vibrates.

Other

    JEANIE
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeanie.png

Voiced by: Kaycie Chase (English and French), Gea Riva (Italian), Yuriko Fuchizaki (Japanese)

The A.I. of the spaceship created by Beep-O. Due to only recently becoming self aware, she has a few flaws in her personality.

  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She starts the game cold and logical. Over the course of the adventure she starts expressing her emotions more, to the point that she ends up falling for Sullivan the train conductor, and stating that Mario gives her hope.
  • Lack of Empathy: She starts the game like this due to Beep-O cutting corners by giving her an "off-the-shelf emotions module." While she was by no means malicious, she only made decisions based on logic rather than morals until later on.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: In her memories describing Sullivan, the train conductor of Terra Nova, she clearly ends up falling for him. She outright says he makes her "FEEL." She clearly has trouble articulating it, but that it was "quite pleasant." By the end of the game, she has full understanding of her emotions and only briefly goes back to her cold and logical personality just to screw with Beep-O.

    Rosalina (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosalina1.jpg
Click here to see Rosalina in-game. (SPOILERS)

Voiced by: Laura Faye Smith

The ruler of the cosmos and the caretaker of the Lumas. She mysteriously went missing after Cursa showed up and did something to her.

As it turns out, she was possessed by Cursa after the latter attacked the Comet Observatory, trapping her for most of the game.

  • Action Mom: She's the adoptive mother of the Lumas, and is immensely powerful.
  • Badass in Distress: She was captured and possessed by Cursa when she attacked the Comet Observatory, and had since been fighting from within.
  • Big Good: She's one of the most powerful characters in the Mario universe, and after she is freed from Cursa's possession, is powerful enough to combine her strength with the Mario crew to defeat the dark being.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Her sheer willpower and faith in Mario and his friends to rescue her allowed her to keep fighting against Cursa even after being possessed.
  • Lady of War: In her brief in-game cutscenes, she is graceful and demonstrates to Cursa why she is not to be trifled with.
  • Walking Spoiler: The fact that she was possessed by Cursa is a rather big spoiler.

    The Sparks

Fusions of Rabbids and Lumas which possess incredible powers. They are the target of Cursa and her Spark Hunters, causing them to hide away, or join forces with the heroes.

  • Attack Reflector: The aptly-named Reflector will cause enemies to receive partial damage back if they attack a Hero that used it.
  • Color-Coded Elements: If a Spark has an elemental attribute, it will be colored to match that element:
  • Death of Personality: Downplayed. Their memories prior to becoming Sparks are lost, but their love for their "Mama Rosalina" remains.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Equipping certain Sparks will apply an elemental effect on the weapon of the person using them, as well as their technique, if it involves their weapon (Mario, Luigi, Rabbid Mario and Edge), while another variety adds this to their dash attack. They additionally provide an immunity to their respective status effect, while reducing all elemental damage in general when equipped.
  • Flying on a Cloud: The main characteristic of the "-geddon" class—riding on a cloud made of their respective element. Pyrogeddon's ride is a cloud of fire, Cryogeddon's is a cloud covered in snow and with icicles on the bottom, and Electrogeddon's is a thundercloud.
  • Fusion Dance: As one might expect, they are Rabbids fused with Lumas. Less expectedly, they were not created by the original Supa-Merge incident. It happened when Cursa first attacked the Comet Observatory and possessed Rosalina, the fusion taking place in the explosive aftermath of their clash.
  • Healing Factor: Regenesis gives the Regen buff to the user, healing roughly a third of their HP for the next two turns.
  • Invisibility: Ethering can turn its user invisible for up to two turns.
  • Leaf Boat: The "Dash" class of Sparks surf on various objects, with the Splash attribute "Aquadash" riding a leaf specifically.
  • Life Drain: Vampastra and Vampdash will infuse weapon attacks and Dash attacks respectively with the Vamp element, increasing their attack power and granting 30% of the damage dealt back to the user, while Vampegeddon settles for an Area of Effect attack with the same life gain. Notably, this isn't considered an actual element by the game and isn't resistable.
  • Living Macguffin: Cursa seeking the Sparks to drain their powers provides the incentive for the heroes to stop her. Most story events will involve you having to rescue the Sparks from Cursa's minions.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: All Sparks possess a special power which they can use to either power up the heroes or directly attack the enemies. They're all at risk of being absorbed by Cursa.
  • Shockwave Stomp: The speciality of the "Quake" class of Sparks, creating localized shockwaves around the user that inflict their respective element on any nearby enemies.
  • Summon Magic:
    • The "Master" class of Sparks can summon friendly versions of Wildclaws, Squashettes, Oozers, and Scoopers to assist the team.
    • Gargantu-Fan, a white Spark holding a red flag, can summon Rabbid Kong to send a circular-shaped shockwave around the user.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Non-merged Lumas don't appear at all in the game other than flashbacks, and as it turns out, Sparks are a direct fusion of Lumas and Rabbids due to Cursa's attack and it is unclear if there are still unmerged Lumas out there.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Glitter can pull enemy units within its range around the user, usually to set up for followup attacks from either the user or another ally.
