Appeared since Rayman
The limbless hero from The Glade of Dreams is always raring for a fresh adventure to save the world!Please note that at least some of these tropes may also apply to his sprite-swaps in Origins and Legends.

- Adventure Duo: With Globox.
- Art Evolution: No less than four times.◊
- Badasses Wear Bandanas: He wears one in the Mobile game Rayman Adventures.
- Bag of Spilling: Often loses his abilities from past games. This is actually justified in Rayman 2, in which it's explicitely said that the explosion of the Heart Of The World caused the loss of his power, and averted in Rayman Legends, in which he keeps the abilities from Rayman Origins.
- Big Eater: He eats fruits, rhythmatically, like no tomorrow.
- Blood Knight: Not in the first few games, but Origins onwards replaces his fairly standard heroic personality in favor of one that, while still heroic in his own way, loves beating up bad guys.
- Character Development: The creators of Rayman Origins were originally going to give him this to show how he became the hero he is today, but their plans were severely derailed (see Manchild for more information).
- Conjoined Eyes: From Rayman 3 onward.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Ever since Origins he's kind of an airhead, but when evil shows up, he can lay down a beating.
- Demoted to Extra: In the original Rayman Raving Rabbids game, he was plot-critical and the only playable character. In the second game, he's still playable, but you can play as a Rabbid and Rayman's story doesn't get resolved. In TV Party, he only appears in cutscenes. He's missing entirely in the succeeding Raving Rabbids games, but from Rabbids Go Home onward, his series and the Rabbids' series were separated.
- Everything's Better with Spinning: His running attack animation is this in Origins and Legends, as well as the iOS games Jungle Run, Fiesta Run, and Rayman Adventures.
- Fingerless Gloves: Wears a pair of these in Rayman Adventures.
- Floating Limbs: Trope Codifier. The real-life reason is because his arms and legs were too difficult to animate in the 90s. The in-game reason (as of Rayman Origins) is because the fairies dropped some lums while running away from Zombie Chickens.
- Fragile Speedster: In Origins and Legends, he is very agile, but can be defeated by taking only a single hit or two. In earlier installments, he was more of a Lightning Bruiser.
- Helicopter Hair: His other defining trait.
- The Hero: The main character of all the games (except for Raving Rabbids, where he takes a backseat to the Rabbids themselves), and the only character playable in all of them.
- He's Back: In the second game. The majority of his BSOD isn't really implied, however; the game starts right before his return to form.
- Idiot Hero: Has shades of this in Origins and Legends.
- Lightning Bruiser: He is very agile, his fist attacks are quite powerful, and in the earlier games (especially Rayman 2 and 3), he is shown to survive normally deadly hazards like falling from very high places on solid ground without as much as a scratch. Due to game mechanics, however, he's shown to be more of a Fragile Speedster in Origins and Legends.
- Manchild: The original idea for Rayman Origins was to show his evolution from immature buffoon to the hero he is today. Unfortunately, this got severely derailed, and now he's a fun psychopath who likes bashing enemies' faces... and his own friends'.
- Mascot: Shares this role with the Rabbids for Ubisoft and the Unicef.
- Meaningful Name: Rayman is variation of "Raymond" meaning "wise gaurdian", reflecting his gaurdianship of the Glade of Dreams, though the "wise" part perhaps not so much...
- Metalhead: The musical levels, which are mostly rock-based, show him headbanging.
- Moses in the Bulrushes: In his Rayman 2 backstory.
- Multiple-Choice Past: As evidenced by all the retcons, it's hard to tell which version of his creation is the "true" one. At this rate, it's easiest to just pick your favorite.
- Mysterious Past: Rayman 1 implied that he was already an established character in his world. It wasn't until Rayman 2 that his past was to be explored. In the game, it claims he was found by fisherman on the Sea of Lums, and that he's the only one not to be dreamt up by Polokus. Rayman Origins states that he was created by the fairies to combat the First Bad Dream. The PlayStation Vita version also tells us that he was bald and had a wife, who left him after orange hair-like creatures latched on to his head (which also explains his Helicopter Hair).
- Older Than They Look: About over three hundred years old by the time of Rayman 3. Physically, around 14-17.
- He and his friends had slept for over a hundred years between the events of Origins and Legends.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Globox's Blue, at least in the early games.
- Retcon: He was a native to the Glade of Dreams and was part of a species just like him!
- No! He was found by a fisherman and is the only one who can use Silver Lums!
- Actually, he was created by the fairies to fight nightmares! Also, he was bald and had a wife.note
- You've all got it wrong! See, he was a ten year-old kid named Jimmy who was sucked into his computer... I'm sorry, what?
- Screams Like a Little Girl: In the opening for Origins when he realizes he's holding a skull. This gets everyone else screaming.
- Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: In the third game, he's the Manly Man to Globox's Sensitive Guy.
- Would Hit a Girl: Had no problem beating up evil witches in Origins and Legends.
- As of Legends, you could, if you so choose, have Rayman give Barbara (or one of the other princesses) a good whack or two.
Betilla the Fairy
The benevolent yet fiercely protective Betilla from the original Rayman is back with a vengeance. She is the eldest Nymph, one of the Bubble Dreamer's first and most beloved creatures. She and her sisters will grant Rayman and his entourage the powers they will need to complete their quest.The eldest of the Nymphs and Rayman's "mother".

- The Bus Came Back: For Origins, anyway. She never appeared again in the games that came after.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Not present since her debut until Rayman Origins. She seems to be missing in Rayman Legends as well.
- Distressed Damsel: At the end of the original game and in the beginning of Origins.
- Evolutionary Retcon: In the original game, she resembles a cartoonish fairy with Floating Limbs. Rayman Origins makes her more humanoid and gives her actual arms and legs.
- Fanservice Pack: Compare her Rayman◊ appearance to her Rayman Origins◊ appearance.
- Floating Limbs: Originally, before the retcon.
- Ms. Fanservice: Her redesigned appearance in Origins is a lot more beautiful and sexy compared to her debut.
- Older Than They Look: In Origins. Seriously, could you even tell she's the oldest of the nymphs? She almost looks like a teenager/young woman!
- Redhead In Green: Post-Origins, she was redesigned with red Rapunzel Hair and a skimpy dark green outfit.
- Sealed Good in a Can: Mr. Dark traps her in a crystal ball.
The Magician will help you throughout your quest. He's always willing to trade you Electoons for Lums, which will help you unlock new worlds and maps. At your service, his magic hat will provide tips and tricks galore to help you survive.
"Hi, folks! You wanna know what's going on?"and later, a villain.
- Bald of Evil: His blue hair from Origins onward is really just a wig.
- Big Bad: Of Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends.
- The Bus Came Back: After his first appearance in the original game, he never appeared in a major game again until Origins.
- The Dog Was the Mastermind: An otherwise minor supporting character who turns out to have been behind the events of Origins.
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": The characters all call him the Magician. In an early script for Origins, his real name is Ales Mansay.
- Evolutionary Retcon: He was originally a limbless being like Rayman, but Origins makes him a Teensie.
- Evil All Along: His Face–Heel Turn isn't revealed until much later in Origins, where he tries using the Lums you collect in each stage to Take Over the World like his idol Mr. Dark tried to do in the original Rayman.
- Fanboy: Of Mr. Dark.
- Floating Limbs: Originally, before the retcon in Origins.
- Foreshadowing: Later in Rayman Origins, his comments become more sarcastic and sinister, which hints at his villainy.
- He desperately tries to convince you to turn back at the beginning of Moody Clouds. Wouldn't want anyone to spoil his plans, after all.
- Freudian Excuse: In an early story script for Origins, he was bullied by the other Teensies in Magician's School for having poor magical abilities, which turned him evil and later led to him secretly idolizing Mr. Dark from the original Rayman.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: His debut appearance in Rayman had blonde hair and he is a frequent ally of Rayman's. Averted with his redesign in Origins.
- Large Ham: He's very boisterious in the original game."You've done it! You saved the WOOOOORLD!"
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: His status as a villain in Legends, spoiling the biggest twist of Origins.
- Manipulative Bastard: An early script for Origins revealed that he was the one who sparked the Livid Dead's hatred for Rayman and his friends by planting a microphone in the Snoring Tree while they slept, causing the Livid Dead to become annoyed with the heroes' loud snoring. Throughout the game, he has you (the player) collect Lums in each stage so that he can use them to power his machines, which he would use to take over the world.
- Me's a Crowd: There are five of him in Rayman Legends, with one for each world.
- Narrator: He's this in the original game.
- Nice Hat: He has a top hat with a gold star on it. In the original Rayman, you can find him inside this hat to access a bonus stage.
- Non-Action Big Bad: In Origins, he simply lets you do all the dirty work for him, and when confronted, he simply runs away as opposed to fighting the player directly. This also applies to all five of him in Rayman Legends.
- Suspiciously Similar Substitute: He wears dark clothing (which includes a hat), has magic powers, and functions as the Big Bad much like his long-absent idol, Mr. Dark.
- Unexplained Recovery: Legends shows that he somehow survived the explosion of the Moody Clouds.
- Walking Spoiler: Many of the tropes listed under his role in Rayman Origins are covered due to his importance in the games.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: In an early story script, part of the reason why he became a villain in Origins was because he saw how the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares were constantly plaguing the Glade of Dreams and its inhabitants, so he wanted to put an end to it by using a diabolical plan to conquer the world and get rid of the Bubble Dreamer, whom he sees as a very incompetent leader who won't even protect the people from his own nightmares.
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: An early story script for Origins pegged him as a victim of childhood bullying, which would've made his Face–Heel Turn in that game more believable.
Rayman's archnemesis. An evil wizard, shrouded in mystery, enigma and evil.
Voiced by: Doug Rand (Rayman, unconfirmed)The main antagonist of the original Rayman. An evil wizard, he steals the Great Protoon and throws the Glade of Dreams into anarchy and chaos, prompting Rayman to set things straight.
- Affably Evil: Despite being billed as a rather sinister customer, his evil base is a colorful cheery land made of cakes and candy, staffed by goofy clowns.
- Ambiguously Human: He's rarely been seen without his hat and cloak, so it's hard to tell if he looks like Rayman underneath (similar to a few minor characters that appear in the game), or if he looks totally different. The only time he's seen without them is when he burns up into a purple smoke-like ghost◊ in the Game Boy Colour Rayman. His silhouetted pictures in Origins and the world's Evolutionary Retcon don't help things either, though he does appear taller than a Teensie at least.
- Big Bad: Of Rayman 1.
- Card-Carrying Villain: The narration introduces him as the 'eeeeeevil' Mr. Dark, which might be a tad redundant!
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: His fate post-final battle is left totally unexplained, and he's never appeared anywhere in sequels. This is more jarring by the time of Origins and Legends, where the Magician (Mr. Dark's self-proclaimed #1 fanboy) is the Big Bad with nary a hint of his existence.
- Conspicuous Trenchcoat: Having raided Darkwing Duck's coat closet, he is now setting his sights on grander crimes.
- Dark is Evil: Naturally. And so is his "#1 Fanboy", the Magician.
- Evil Is Petty: After stealing Rayman's telescopic fist, he seemingly felt the need to put it on a rope and yank it out of his reach whenever he gets close.
- Evil Sorceror: Is said to be a very talented one, too, what with him able to make deadly clones, transform, and use some Elemental Powers.
- Evil Sounds Deep: He only has one short laugh in the entire game, but it's rather low-pitched.
- Evolutionary Retcon: While in the first game, he (like everyone else) had no limbs, his shadowed pictures in Rayman Origins show him with arms and a redesigned hat.
- Floating Limbs: Like everyone else in the first game, he has no visible arms or legs. He is shown in pictures in Rayman Origins with arms, however.
- Generic Doomsday Villain: Who is he? Where did he come from? Why does he do bad things? Uh...
- Subverted in that it's not totally generic: this is to add more mystery to his character.
- Greater-Scope Villain: Despite never appearing again after the first game, he remains the idol of the Magician, who becomes the Big Bad of Origins and Legends.
- Interface Screw: At one point, he forces Rayman to run nonstop, and reverses all the controls.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!: Had he not stuck Rayman's one means of attack on a rope to yank away if he tried to grab it and taken so long to kill Rayman, he'd probably have won.
- Obviously Evil: Yeah, as you can probably tell, subtlety is not in this guy's wheelhouse.
- Orcus on His Throne: He spends most of the game stalking Rayman with binoculars and kidnaps Betilla near the end, but does nothing to stop Rayman himself until the latter reaches his lair.
- Playing with Fire: Used primarily in the first game's Final Boss, where he toys with Rayman, who cannot fight back (at first). He also uses fire in the GBC game's Final Boss.
- Power Floats: He's able to levitate off the ground in the GBC game.
- Shock and Awe: Summons lightning bolts to attack in the GBC fight with him.
- Supernatural Gold Eyes: He has yellow sclerea.
- The Unfought: After dodging his initial attacks, he flees and leaves Rayman to deal with his abominations. Some believe he shapeshifts into them, but even if he did, you don't fight the cloaked figure himself. Averted for sure in the obscure GBC game.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: In the Game Boy Colour game, he's able to turn into a ball of darkness that tries to ram into Rayman.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: His fate after the events of the first game is unknown. The Atari Jaguar version of the game clearly shows his escape after fighting Rayman. However, he doesn't appear in the sequels. But he is indirectly involved in Rayman Origins via his "#1 Fanboy", the Magician.
- Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: During the first game's Final Boss, Rayman (who has his only means of attack taken away from him) has to dodge fireballs and moving fire pillars. After a while, the pillars start to close in on him, but by that time some Electoons give Rayman his fist back. Makes you wonder why he didn't just bring the flame pillars together to begin with.
A evil clone of Rayman created by Mr. Dark, as the exact opposite of the original in every way.
- Evil Laugh: In Legends, where he has a high-pitched, echoed version of the original Rayman's laugh.
- Evil Knockoff: Of Rayman, created by Mr. Dark for the sole purpose of killing him.
- Floating Limbs: A trait he shares with the original Rayman.
- Heel–Face Turn: In Rayman Origins and Rayman Jungle Run.
- Heel–Face Revolving Door: He's back to being an enemy in Legends, but even then he's still a playable character.
- Which makes it even more confusing when you can race "Raymesis" against himself, or Dark Rayman, in certain Invasion runs...
- Hopeless Boss Fight: Averted. Beating his level in Rayman 1 kills him.
- I Have the High Ground: In this screenshot◊ for the Game Boy Color version of Rayman.
- Promoted to Playable: In Rayman Origins and Rayman Jungle Run on iOS.
- Sudden Name Change: He's named "Bad Rayman" in Rayman Designer, "Dark Rayman" in Rayman Advance, the Bubble Dreamer calls him "DarkRay" in Origins (though it can be a nickname), and finally, he is called "Raymesis" in Legends. This leads to debate whether he is or not the same character from Rayman M.
- Unexplained Recovery: He was supposed to die when Rayman reached the end of his level. Probably explained with the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares.
- The Unfavorite: Bubble Dreamer/Polokus is pretty mean to him in Origins, making fun of his ugliness.
A race of small, pink circular beings who inhabit the Glade of Dreams. At least, they would be, if they weren't caged up all the time by the villains, be it Mr. Dark or the more malevolent denizens of the Land of the Livid Dead.
- The Bus Came Back: In Origins.
- Gotta Catch Them All: Of the Important variety in Origins (having more gets you further into the game), but of the Crucial variety in the original. Collecting all of them was required to reach the final levels and Final Boss.
- Floating Limbs: They notoriously retain it in Origins.
Appeared since Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Adorable, if a little simple, Globox is Rayman’s best friend. Always up for a little fooding, fighting, and power-napping, and always in good spirits, Globox is second to none when it comes to romping, bouncing, and bubblizing baddies.
Voiced by: Doug Rand (Rayman 2, Origins, and Legends) and John Leguizamo (Rayman 3)Rayman's best friend and partner-in-crime, Globox is a bit dim on occasion, but what he lacks in brains, he makes up for in his loyalty (and his skills in "Fung-Ku"). Please note that at least some of these tropes may also apply to his sprite-swaps in Origins and Legends.
- Acrofatic: In Origins and Legends.
- Adventure Duo: With Ray.
- The Alcoholic: Ends up becoming this in Rayman 3 due to his allergy to the plum juice he's been prescribed. Drops the schtick after that, however.
- Bash Brothers: Becomes this with Rayman as of Origins and Legends.
- Breakout Character: He never missed a game after his introduction in Rayman 2. His role in Rayman 3 is more prominent, and he's playable since Origins.
- Big Eater: Same as Rayman.
- The Big Guy: Fills this role in Origins and Legends.
- Blue Is Heroic: His body is colored blue, but he is Rayman's close friend and ally.
- Cowardly Sidekick: In Rayman 2, Rayman 3, and Hoodlums Revenge.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Over the course of the series. His first few appearances paint him as a bit of a wimp, but Origins's multiplayer shows that he's able to hold his own just as well as (and against) Rayman himself.
- Distressed Dude: During Rayman 2 and Rayman 3.
- Explosive Breeder: He and his wife have a family of 650 children at last count!
- Fat Idiot: A heroic example, though he's not as smart.
- Flanderization: Between the second and third games, his stupidity goes from a slight facet of his character to a defining trait. Brought back down in Origins.
- Happily Married: To Uglette.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: He and Rayman are hardly ever seen away from each other ever since he debuted.
- Noodle Incident: According to a costume blurb in Rayman Adventures, his skin was originally red, but he turned blue after a misadventure that involved fruit-picking and bees.
- Promoted to Playable: He's playable for the first time in Rayman M and is playable for a couple of levels in "Hoodlums' Revenge". His playable debut in a main game is Rayman Origins.
- Rain Dance: His power. It's rather effective against Pirates.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Rayman's Red, at least in the earlier games.
- Remember the New Guy: Introduced as Rayman's longtime best bud, even if he wasn't in the first game.
- Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: In the third game, he's the Sensitive Guy to Rayman's Manly Man.
- Stomach of Holding: He used it to smuggle a silver lum aboard the pirate ship so Rayman could get his powers back.
- Took a Level in Badass: Starting from Origins, he's no longer a coward, and fights on his blood brother's side.
Ly the Fairy
Ly is a fairy, and like all fairies, she possesses great powers. Unfortunately, the explosion of the Primordial Core by the pirates has weakened her. When she has regained enough energy, she can create Silver Lums, which give amazing new powers to Rayman.
Voiced by: Coralie Martin (Rayman 2: The Great Escape) and Kim Michelle Broderick (Rayman 2: Revolution)One of the Fairies of the Glade, Ly appears in the second game as an ally who grants upgrades to Rayman's powers over the course of his quest.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Mysteriously, she doesn't show up at all after the second game (except for the GBA versions of 3 and Raving Rabbids).
- Distressed Damsel: For the first couple of levels in Rayman 2.
- Exposition Fairy: In the Playstation version, where she takes Murfy's role.
- Levitating Lotus Position: Her default position.
- Mr. Exposition: Tells Rayman all about Polokus and the four masks in a rather long speech.
- My Nayme Is: Pronounced "Lee".
- Nude-Colored Clothes: She is either wearing a skin-colored bodysuit or actually naked aside from her conveniently placed tattoos, although in the Japanese version of 2 she's wearing a white bodysuit.
- The Game Boy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids confirms that it's a bodysuit, however, which she wears partially off-shoulder.
- Remember the New Guy: Introduced as the fairy who gave powers to Rayman... even if it was actually Betilla in the first game.
- Ship Tease: In a few pieces of promotional artwork, with Rayman. None in the game proper.
- Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Betilla.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: She has deep purple hair.
Nicknamed "The Flying Encyclopaedia," Murfy helps Rayman by giving him loads of hints and advice. Part-time quizmaster and full time know-it-all, this bug is the guy to go if you want to know anything! Listen to his lectures carefully if you really want a game advantage.Also known as Murphy, this little guy acts as Ray's walking, flying guidebook in his appearances during the second and third games. In the Wii U version of Legends, he's the player character for those using the GamePad to play; however, instead of being a traditional platformer-style character, he plays a support role for Rayman and company.
- Big Eater: In Rayman Legends, he can eat huge cake platforms.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: In Rayman 3.
- Cheshire Cat Grin: Is constantly wearing a wide, toothy grin.
- Deadpan Snarker: In Rayman 3.
- Exposition Fairy: In both of his appearances prior to Origins.
- Eye Scream: Happens offscreen, but in Rayman Arena, he can be heard shouting, "No, no, not my eyes...!" while the main cast beats him up for pestering them.
- Getting Crap Past the Radar: A good portion of his jokes in Rayman 3.
- Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Implied in Rayman 3. In that game, he gets his info from the manual itself.
- Meta Guy: In Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, his main schtick is snarking about the poor quality of the manual.
- My Nayme Is: Murphy, but spelled with an F... sometimes.
- Out of Focus: Largely absent for Origins (only showing up in that game's "Yikes! Need a break from this level?" screens), but brought back as a playable character in Legends.
- Promoted to Playable: In the Wii U version of Legends.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: In Rayman 3, some of his comments are covered with bleeps.
The pirate leader, he is famous throughout the galaxy for reducing over 100 peaceful planets to cosmic dust. Don't be fooled by his pathetic and silly appearance – his ferocity is unmatched. His dream? Overrun Rayman's world and reduce all its inhabitants to slavery...
Voiced by: Matthew Geczy (Rayman 2: The Great Escape), Carlos Alazraqui (Rayman: The Animated Series), and Ken Starcevic (Rayman 2: Revolution and Rayman M)"THE bad guy" of the second game, Razorbeard is the leader of the Robo-Pirates. His quest to enslave the entirety of the Glade of Dreams is largely successful, but the thorn in his side is Rayman, who he becomes bent on destroying by any means necessary. Overall, not a very pleasant guy.
- Big Bad: Of Rayman 2 and the GBA version of Rayman 3.
- The Cameo: In Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, in a parody of The Last Supper. As Jesus, for some reason.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: He isn't brought up very frequently after his first outing and the GBA version of the third game. Origins doesn't even mention the character at all.
- The Napoleon: His height is a very touchy subject.
- Promoted to Playable: As of Rayman M.
- Nice Hat: Say what you will about him in general, but that is one cool tricorne.
- The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: We don't see them doing actual piracy. They act like an invasion army. According to the manual, they already enslaved a few worlds before the Glade of Dreams.
Polokus (The Bubble Dreamer)
The Spirit of the World, sleeping and powerless unless the four masks are collected and brought to him, in which case he awakens, in order to help the world in a most dire time of need.Voiced by: David Gasman (Rayman 2) and Doug Rand (Rayman Origins)
- All There in the Manual: The manual for Rayman 2 told that he once had a wife, named "Muse of the Poets". Together, they created the Teensies, but Muse, a very beautiful woman, was so disgusted by her children's ugliness that she up and left one day, permanently hiding herself in an unknown forest. Her departure is treated with deep regret by her husband.
- The Bus Came Back: He didn't appear in 3 nor the Raving Rabbids games, but finally makes a return in Origins and Legends.
- The Maker: Is the creator of the Glade of Dreams. More specifically, the Glade is his Dream.
- Physical God: Only on the ground. While he obliterates every Robo Pirate on the ground, in the air, he's useless, conveniently setting up Rayman for an epic Final Showdown with Razorbeard without his assistance.
- Power Incontinence: His ability to conjure up lifeforms by dreaming results in his nightmares creating monsters.
- Reality Warper: Given the Glade of Dreams is his dream, there exists that possibility.

- The Big Guy: Is insanely strong, capable of easily battering twenty pirates, only stopping due to being ill.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Courtesy of Razorbeard's Lackey in the Tomb of the Ancients. Fortunately, Rayman is able to snap him out of it.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Rayman 2 is his first and only appearance.
- Crutch Character: Strangely enough, averted. Although his assistance is necessary, it is not in combat...
- Dishing Out Dirt: Unlockable information about him says he shaped the mountains with his sheer strength.
- Dumb Muscle: Or at least his voice would imply that he's dumb. He somehow knows the name of the Cave of Bad Dreams, however, which suggests he's smarter than he sounds.
- Impact Silhouette: Leaves one in any wall that's unfortunate enough to be ran into by him. Rayman has to go through these silhouettes too...
- One-Man Army: He handle several Pirates on his own.
- Remember the New Guy: One of Rayman's friends who was absent from the original game.
- Worf Had the Flu: The only reason he stops pummeling Pirates is due to swallowing something bad for him.
Vicious (with one exception) creatures that go by the names of Axel, Umber/Colossus (Name varies with version), Foutch, and Grolem 13 (Rayman Revolution only). They guard the Sanctuaries of Water and Ice, Stone and Fire, Rock and Lava, and the Iron Mountains respectively.
- Combat Pragmatist: Foutch ambushes Rayman from behind, allowing him to make a definitive first strike that disables his very temporary ability to fly without any limit.
- Everything's Better with Spinning: Foutch does this to break free of its Stalactites.
- Hero Antagonist: From a certain point of view. They're only doing their jobs, and clearly have done a fine job (with the exception of Umber/Colossus in the Playstation versions) keeping the Pirates away from the masks.
- Only Sane Man: In the Playstation version, Ly contacts the guardians in order to make them help Rayman to save the Glade, but Umber is the only one to respond favorably.

- The Last of These Is Not Like the Others: Not technically the last, but Umber is significantly different in both attitude and looks to the other Guardians.
- The Unfought: Umber/Colossus. Instead of fighting Rayman, he simply starts walking once Rayman lands on his head, leading him towards the second mask. This is explained in some versions, as he (unlike the others) knew Rayman was a hero using the masks for good.
- Grolem 13 in the other versions than Rayman Revolution. Rayman get the last mask from Globox's children after he freed them in the Iron Mountain, implying the Pirates might have killed the Guardian offscreen.

- The Cameo: Is the same General as in Tonic Trouble.
- Honest John's Dealership: Given the huge piles of money the General receives from Razorbeard (and the fact the product doesn't end up killing Rayman as advertised), it's likely he was fleecing him.
- Karma Houdini: He sells a weapon to Razorbeard, knowing he will use it against Rayman, gets a lot a money for it, and never encounters the hero in this game or afterwards.
- Floating Limbs: One of the few characters outside of Rayman to have them in the universe of Rayman 2.
Jano/The Guardian of the Cave of Bad Dreams
A hideous, one-eyed monster that guards the Elixir of Life in the Cave of Bad Dreams. As part of his test to see if Rayman is worthy of the Elixir, he tries to eat him. However, this is all simply a dream to test his heroic will, as upon his defeat, he offers Rayman a huge amount of gold, which he can choose to accept or refuse.
- Affably Evil: Is kind enough to give Rayman a 'head start' when chasing him in his attempts to eat him.
- All There in the Manual: The manual for Origins explains that Jano was Polokus's first nightmare, and that he's been creating the Antitoons that plague the characters in Origins.
- Ambiguously Evil: Origins' manual says that Rayman and him have tangled before, and that he created the Antitoons. He otherwise doesn't seem actively malicious, and even is borderline helpful to Rayman in 2, even keeping his part of the bargain to give Rayman the cure to Clark's affliction.
- Breath Weapon: Has fire breath.
- Cyclops: Only has one eye.
- "Get Back Here!" Boss: After his chasing phase, he becomes the chasee.
- Graceful Loser: He isn't very broken up about Rayman defeating him.
- Just Eat Him: What he wants to do to Rayman... supposedly.
- Magic Staff: His skull staff enables him to 'transport' Rayman into the Cave of Bad Dreams. In reality, he's just hypnotising him and causing him to go on a trip to test his character, but it still qualifies.
- Mouth Cam: His chasing of Rayman is done this way.
- Nice Hat: A top hat with star decorations on it. It's actually the same hat Polokus wears in Rayman 2, which makes sense due to the fact Jano was Polokus's first nightmare.
- Secret Test of Character: After being defeated in 'battle', he offers Rayman a huge room filled with gold. He tells Rayman he can have it all... however, if he takes it, his adventure ends, and he lives out the rest of his days on an island while the rest of the world is destroyed. If he refuses, he gives him the elixir of life.
A species of creatures who are able to access the Hall of Doors, a mystical Hub World that allows Rayman to travel to various parts of the Glade of Dreams. In the second game, there are four teensies that believe themselves to be the rightful king of the Teensies, as well as one at the end of each level capable of bringing Rayman back to the Hub World. In Rayman M/Arena, there are two who are still fighting over the crown, and by Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, it's revealed that there are several different types of Teensies, some in the getup of Shepherds, Ghosts, and Winter Clothing, as well as having at least three highly individualised doctors.

- Disco Tech: A lot of their powers seem to revolve around dancing and disco-themed events.
- Gag Nose: They are recognized by their long, drooping noses. In Origins, the Bubble Dreamer purposely gave them long noses so they can entertain him with music created from their loud snoring.
- Gratuitous Disco Sequence: They are fond of this method of travel in Rayman 3, and the Heart of the World (where the teensies now reside) is essentially a fantasy-styled disco.
- Herr Doktor: The first doctor teensie.
- I Have to Go Iron My Dog: In Rayman 3, they provide their bit of aid when freed from a cage, then give excuses of varying hilarity to simply up and vanish.
- Master of Unlocking: Can use the power of the Lums to unlock doors to the levels which contain the Masks of Polokus.
- New-Age Retro Hippie: The second doctor teensie.
- Portal Network: They set up one called 'the Hall of Doors'.
- The Power of Rock: The first teensie doctor tries this to get André to leave Globox. He unfortunately fails. In the end, a combined effort of the three doctors is a great musical piece that does force André out of Globox.
- Promoted to Playable: The Grand Minimus in Origins and Rayman M.
- Punny Name: The Doctors: Otto Psi, Roméo Patti, and Garatta Ciatik.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: The Grand Minimus, especially in Rayman Origins, where he's a playable character.
- That Russian Squat Dance: One of the methods the Teensies use to open portals to the Hall of Doors.
- The Smurfette Principle: In Origins, there's only one female Teensie, who's also the first one in the franchise. Averted in Legends, where several Queen Teensies have to be rescued.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Seems to be the relationship of the two playable teensies in Rayman M/Arena.
- The Wrongful Heir to the Throne: The teensies themselves are not so sure which one of them is really the king, so they end up establishing a rota in which they regularly switch their king.

Somewhat sentient balls of light that possess wings and in some cases, eyes. They come in several colours — Yellow, Red, Green, Blue, Purple, Silver, and in Rayman 3, Black. Yellow lums make up the Heart of the World, Red Lums provide Rayman with energy, Green Lums act as checkpoints, Blue Lums provide Rayman with oxygen, Purple Lums act as points for Rayman to swing from, Silver Lums give Rayman new powers, and Black Lums are corrupted Red Lums, ones which have been touched by André, the antagonist of Rayman 3.
- All There in the Manual: The Lums' purpose in the Glade of Dreams, sometimes, like in the case of the Purple Lums, very different to what Rayman uses them for.
- The Artifact: Yellow Lums become this after Rayman 2, where they were the 1000 parts of the Heart of the World that had been destroyed by the pirates. In later games, they still appear, no longer limited to 1000, despite no mention of the Heart of the World.

Yet another Evil Knockoff of Rayman, he is a red-eyed, red-fisted version of Rayman with an 'X' instead of an 'O' on his body.
- Evil Knockoff: Of Rayman, though his connection to other similar knockoffs like Bad Rayman from Rayman and Raymesis from Origins is debatable.
- Floating Limbs: A trait shared with the original Rayman.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes have bright red sclera compared to Rayman's white and Bad Rayman's yellow. He is also yet another Evil Knockoff of the original Rayman.

An uglier, stupider, and more evil version of Globox. Only appears in the American Versions.
As shy as her friend, she is yet a fierce competitor when it comes to racing. Globox himself is never sure he can defeat his beloved friend.A female friend of Globox. Only appears in Rayman Rush, Playstation's version of the game. Oddly enough, she uses Dark Globox's theme music and lower-pitched versions of Tily's voicelines.
- Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Uglette, Globox's wife. Some assume she's the same character, but her color is a bit different.
- She also wears a bow similar to one of Globox and Uglette's daughters, Bimbette, although it's smaller.
Appeared since Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
The Big Bad of the third game. The original Black Lum, and ruler of the race as a whole. He can change Red Lums into other Black Lums just by touching them. His goal is to transform the energy of the Core of the World into Hoodlums to Take Over the World. That plan soon went down the crapper when Globox accidentally swallowed him, setting up the events for the game.

A proud and powerful Knaaren champion who Rayman faces in the Desert of the Knaaren, to prove his worth to the Knaaren King. After his defeat, he teams up with André to get his revenge on Rayman.
- Clipped-Wing Angel: In order to increase his power, he lodges the crystal of Leptys into his back. This causes him to grow to a massive size, but also causes him to require freezing in place to recharge his energy, and eventually causes him to crystallise himself and shatter.
- The Dragon: Becomes this to André.
- Fake Ultimate Hero: To the Knaarens. The regular Knaarens may not have magic staffs that can fire energy spheres, but they are invincible, and Reflux is the only member of the entire species able to be harmed by Rayman.

- Aristocrats Are Evil: He seems to be of nobility, and is a cruel sadist who enjoys hunting fully sentient beings.
- Filler Villain: Like Begoniax, he's not related to the main villains in any fashion.
- "Get Back Here!" Boss: Every time Rayman gets the upper hand, he makes a run for it.
- Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: He wants to hunt Rayman. The same guy that would go on to beat up the champion of a race of invincible psychopaths.
- Lone Wolf Boss: Again, like Begoniax, he has his own reasons for fighting Rayman.
André's army. Originally Red Lums, they turned into evil Black Lums because of hate and fear, or André touching them. They are harmless in their Lum form, but by harvesting wool and cloth from wild animals, they can gather together and form the humanoid Hoodlums.
- Airborne Mook: The Hoodstormer.
- Barrier Warrior: The Hoodoos.
- Cool Hat: The Hoodmongers and their elites have them.
- Humongous Mecha: The Hoodstomper and Céloche.
- The Goomba: The Slapdashes. They only have one hitpoint, are the only enemies without projectile attacks, and cannot block your attacks at all. The only thing they have on their side is the element of surprise.
- Schizo Tech: They manage to outfit toilets and washing machines as weapons, in the latter case, flying weapons, no less.
- Weapon Twirling: Many classes of Hoodlum do this to block Rayman's attacks.

The Raving Rabbids
A group of cute, but crazy rabbits who are known for their ear-piercingly loud scream. They seem, and are, stupid as hell, but they are actually surprisingly organized, enough to capture Rayman and force him to play games in an arena. They got so popular that they completely took the focus away from Rayman for a good while, until Origins and Legends came along.
- Big Bad: Collectively, of Raving Rabbids, making this an case of Antagonist Title.
- Cute but Cacophonic: They are known for their loud "DAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!", which they scream at the top of their lungs pretty much everytime they appear.
- Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Infamous for this: they basically stole the entire show after their first appearance, to the point that the next few games in the series were about them, and didn't feature Rayman at all, much to his fans' dismay. Fortunately for them, come Origins and Legends, the two series have finally split apart.
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: According to Ly in the Gameboy Advance version of the game, the rabbids were the nicest creatures that had gradually been bullied by other creatures, therefore going bad and taking their pain out on the entire world.
Appeared since Rayman Origins
A female royal Teensie who made her debut in Origins. She seems to have a crush on Rayman.
- All Love Is Unrequited: Her character blurb describes her as having a crush on Rayman, her childhood hero, while ignoring the crushes her fellow Teensies have for her. Unfortunately, Rayman hasn't noticed yet, and probably never will.
- The Fashionista: Implied. If you pull on the Bubble Dreamer's beard while playing as her, he'll praise her fashion style.
- Hero Worship: Of Rayman, which later turned into a Precocious Crush.
- Pink Is Feminine: Her outfit is entirely colored in pink to show that she's a female Teensie.
- Precocious Crush: Has one for Rayman, who is chronically a few centuries older than her, yet he physically looks like a teenager.
A Grim Reaper-esque figure who takes over Goth Teensy's job as guardian of the Land of the Livid Dead. Unlike his predecessor, who is supposed to keep residents of the Land of the Livid Dead from escaping, he won't let anyone enter it. However, he will let you in if you give him his missing Skull Teeth.
- Don't Fear the Reaper: Rayman's take on the Grim Reaper is the least threatening version ever. He resembles an old man who's missing his dentures and he waves his scythe like an old man waves his cane.
A group of fairies who Rayman must rescue throughout the game in order to gain a new power. They debuted in the original Rayman game and reappeared in the Origins continuity, where they are rewritten as sisters of Betilla the Fairy, who is the oldest.
- Ambiguously Brown: Holly and Edith are the only Nymphs who have dark skin.
- Animal Motifs: Only Holly, Edith, and Annetta wear things that represent the creatures of their realms. Betilla and Helena and Fee avert this.
- Distressed Damsel: All of them must be rescued when they are captured by Darktoons.
- Does Not Like Shoes: Save for Betilla and Annetta, the Nymphs are barefoot.
- Hartman Hips: Their hips are as wide as their shoulders.
- Ms. Fanservice: All of the Nymphs are scantily-clad faeries in the Origins continuity, and physically they're not so hard on the eyes, either.
- Nice Hat: Their headgear are skulls taken from large reptilian creatures (save for Betilla and Helena's), and they represent each of the six worlds that Rayman and his friends visit in Origins.
- Older Than They Look: All of them are Really 700 Years Old, but they look like teenage girls or young women.

- Punny Name: Most of them have a name that matches the world they're found in.
- Ambiguously Brown: Has brown skin that's a shade darker than her sister Edith's.

- Blue Is Heroic: A blue-clad, blue-haired Nymph who helps Rayman learn how to fly after she is rescued from Darktoons.
- Facial Markings: The blue markings on her face resemble those worn by tribal characters.
- Punny Name: Her name is spelled and pronounced similarly to "Hallelujah", a religious praise. Since she expressed joy upon being rescued by Rayman, it could also count as a Meaningful Name.

- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: A blonde-haired fairy who helps Rayman learn how to change his size after she is rescued from Darktoons.
- Punny Name: Her name sounds like "eat it up".
- Rapunzel Hair: Her hair is longer than her body.
- Red Is Heroic: Her costume and hat are colored red, and her world, the Gourmand Lands, is colored with a red palette. She's a heroic ally of Rayman who helps him in return for rescuing her.
- She's Got Legs: She has the thickest legs of all her Nymph sisters. She's also the only Nymph who doesn't have leg wear, either, so the first thing you'll look at will probably be her legs.
- Size Shifter: Grants the player the power to change size.
- Animal Motifs: Fish. Her hat resembles a fish skull, and the ability she gives Rayman after he rescues her is to swim underwater.

- Meaningful Name: Her name is Greek for "light" or "bright". She has light blonde hair and her clothes are more light-colored than her sisters'.
- Nice Hat: Unlike her sisters Edith, Annetta, and Holly, who wear skulls for hats, her hat resembles a fur-trimmed budenovka, a Russian pointed hat.
- Pretty in Mink: Because she represents a cold and snowy realm, her attire and hat is made of fur.
- Punny Name: Her name is a play on "To hell in a handbasket". Real subtle, Ubisoft.
Fée de la Mort/Big Mama/Voodoo Mamma
The last nymph Rayman must save. Unlike the others, she hasn't been kidnapped, but outright transformed into a monster, most likely by the Magician or the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares.
- Baleful Polymorph: It's implied that she was forcibly transformed into a hideous monster through malevolent magic, either by the Magician or the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares.
- Beat the Curse Out of Him: What you have to do to turn her back to normal.
- Bilingual Bonus: Her name, Fée de la Mort, translates to "Death Fairy" or "Fairy of Death".
- Contralto of Danger: Her Nymph form speaks with a noticeably deeper voice than her sisters.
- Extra Eyes: Her monster form has multiple eyes that fall off when Rayman punches her in the face.
- Good Wings, Evil Wings: Her Nypmh form has purple bat wings as opposed to her sisters' fairy wings.
- Goth: Her Nymph form is morbid-looking compared to those of her sisters'.
- Goth Girls Know Magic: Implied; the Bubble Dreamer mentions her knowing a lot of spells and mystical cures for ailments.
- Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: She is the only fairy Rayman does not actually need to encounter. She pops up at the end of the Bonus Level Of Hell to fight Rayman, then turns back to normal, and that's it.

- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Her true name translates to "Death Fairy" or "Fairy of Death".
- Pink Is Feminine: Her Nymph form wears a strapless pink dress.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted; the only reason she was evil was due to Baleful Polymorph on her part. She turned good once Rayman saved her from her curse... by beating her up.
- Ship Tease: Some of the unlockable pictures in the IOS game Jungle Run pairs her up with Rayman. Possibly justified, since she was forcibly turned into a monster and Rayman saved her.
- Skeleton Motif: Her Nymph form wears skulls and bones as accessories.
- Tattooed Crook: Her Nymph form has tattoos all over her body. Averted with the "Crook" part in that she wasn't evil to begin with.
A scrapped Nymph who was planned to be included in the early stages of Origins, but was left out for some reason.
- Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Her outfit resembles the female flight attendant's uniform, and the realm she was going to represent before she was scrapped is the "Moody Clouds", which has turbulent weather, machines, and aircraft.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair that's shorter than Helena's. She was originally going to be included in Origins where she can help Rayman, but was ultimately scrapped.
- Punny Name: Wendy Weather. Get it?
- Stripperific: Her outfit is a skimpy, sexier version of a female flight attendant's uniform.
The kings of four lands that have been corrupted by the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares.
- Attack Its Weak Point: The only way to hurt them is to hit a pink bulge that randomly appears on their body. Interestingly, the final weakpoint for all the kings (save Heartburn) is located in their mouth.
- Baleful Polymorph: They've been transformed into giant, monstrous versions of themselves by the Bubble Dreamer's nightmares.
- Beat the Curse Out of Him: Defeating them returns them to normal.
- Fluffy the Terrible: While in their monster forms.
- Nonstandard Character Design: They are more detailed than other characters in the game.
- Advancing Boss of Doom: The first half of her fight is to climb away from her as she chases you. She is also this in Jungle Run, though you are unable to fight her.
- Fantastic Flora: She's an enormous, mobile plant with thorns all over her body. Her true form is a cute little flower (albeit with an underbite).
- Overly Long Tongue: Her final attack is to lash her long tongue at you. If she misses, she leaves her weak point exposed.
- Roar Before Beating: In the second half of her fight, most of her attacks consist of roaring before trying to smash you to a pulp with her giant head.
- She Is the King: Not only was her real name revealed in Rayman Fiesta Run, but so was her gender.
- The Smurfette Principle: The only one of the four Kings who is female.
The Mocking Bird
- Flunky Boss: Can call upon small birds to attack you.
- Giant Flyer: A humongous bird whose body is bigger than its wings.
- Heli-Critter: His braided tailfeathers spin like a propeller as he flies.
- High-Altitude Battle: Most of the fight take place in the clouds.
- Screaming Warrior: Constantly screeches throughout the battle. Near the end, he weaponizes it, trying to suck you in.
- Bizarre Alien Biology: While in his stomach, his heart can be seen in the background through the stomach walls. The flames in his stomach is what's giving him heartburn.
- Extreme Omnivore: His stomach contains a giant pot floating in his stomach acid.
- King Mook: He's the king of the dragon chef enemies.
- Outrun the Fireball: After you defeat him, you must outrun the flames building up inside him and jump out of his mouth.
- Womb Level: He eats you at the start of the level and must be beaten from within his stomach.
- All There in the Manual: His name is thought to be Murray, as the level you fight him in is called "Murray of the Deep", but according to the game's files, his name is actually Creveton.
- Flunky Boss: Spawns eel-like creatures out of his mouth to fight with him.
- Kraken and Leviathan: Looks like a leviathan, but his true form is a shrimp.
