Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- • Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.

Ask the Tropers:
open MkayRose
Hey, I'm a Forum Game regular but in a couple of these games, the user Mkay Rose would often sneer at those with anime avatars, usually referring to the avatars with disgust:
While I'm aware that Mkay Rose doesn't like anime (which I respect, that's his opinion afterall) and that you're not supposed to take things seriously in the Forum Game section, his behavior kinda rubs me the wrong way. Like it could be just me but it feels unnecessarily negative in a space that's supposed to be chill.
Not only that, a couple others seem to be annoyed by him as seen here
I'm making this ATT query to see if what he's doing counts as jerkassery or at least give him a nudge about this.

Could Yeetus Deletus 69420 get a tap on the shoulder, please? Some of edit history is pretty rude to say the least. Link to history here
Noticed them with their latest edit reason, "You're saying that AUTHORITARIANISM is justified. Why would you ever be right under any circumstance?"
On this page, they're very insistent on "the pope" not being added to the page. They left two commented-out, all-caps notes for Tropers not to add him, the latest reading I TOLD YOUR STUPID ASS NOT TO PUT THE POPE HERE. HE NEVER APPEARS.
Here, edit reason is "Are you kidding me?! As I'm writing this, at this very moment, I'm laughing my ass off. There are no heartwarming moments in Hatching the Plan! What are you, stupid?"
Normally I'd send a notifier but this isn't the first time they've been reported for potential rudeness
Edited by iamconstantineopenJHD's impatience
I've avoided an ATT report because this has been largely restricted to the fora, but nothing has really happened after two hollers, so I figured it's worth another report.
JHD has a habit of impatience in the Projects fora, which results in them either berating people for not focusing on what he considers important (without taking any initiative himself) or taking unilateral action despite a lack of consensus. Some examples:
- In the So Bad It's Horrible cleanup, they kept asking if we should remove some listicles from Horrible.Other and the Music subpages. The discussion didn't reach consensus, but when their attempt to revive it was overlooked, they just removed the lists unilaterally instead of just reviving the discussion. (They did eventually make a spinoff thread to properly discuss the issue.)
- In the Deader Than Disco TRS, they got snappy about not receiving constant updates on how many wicks were left, despite that being visible from the Related tab. Note that they weren't really doing much wick cleaning themself.
- They've had a history of impatience in the Wick Check Project especially. Their early posts in the thread were first a lot of double-posting about their progress doing a Deader Than Disco wick check, and once they decided they weren't good at doing wick checks, they got fairly pushy about us doing that wick check (they've admitted that changing that trope was the main reason they joined the site). Then after deciding they didn't have time to work on the Ho Yay wick check (which is fair enough), they were still ignorant about exactly how to fix the trope despite previous failed TRS threads, which again, is fair, as they can't solve everything. But they seem very reluctant to even try. And now today they just tried to cutlist the newer Ho Yay wick check because "It's dead, and will never go anywhere" despite nobody else giving up on the effort and people working on numerous other threads at the same time. Once again, they just decided to make a decision based on their own feelings about a situation rather than actually discuss an issue properly.
He was brought up earlier for his somewhat judgmental ATT questions, but I didn't think it was that big of an issue because he seemed to be listening. But he's still continuing to be disruptive, even after multiple warnings to stop this hasty behavior. Their role in the projects is less contributing to the effort and more yelling at other tropers to contribute because they gave up on trying to help, despite the fact that these are collaborative efforts and we've given him many tips on how to contribute.
openIP Check Requested
A spin off of this thread. I'd like for the mods to check into morpmorp's account. Based on details outlined in that other thread, it's suspected that Morp is actually Lily Orchard herself, ban-evading and edit warring to keep her page the way she wants it.
Even if Morp isn't Lily, they're exhibiting serious ownership issues and are attacking other people, having made two other threads specifically to call out editors they were fighting with. They're also insistent on labeling Lily's ex as abusive, when that's a controversial claim and not the neutral stance they claim to be taking.
All in all, something doesn't add up here.
openRakdos is making very political edits
A troper called Rakdos is making a lot of politically biased edits.
Here, he replaced "Bill O'Reilly" with "John Oliver", and erased another entry that makes it clear how the character resembles Bill O'Reilly.
Here he says that "Since Trump stepped down after losing the election, John continues his biased rants against conservative and right-wing views." And his edit reason is "He has not stopped his bullshit about conservatives and right-wingers in generals."
The worst example is here, where he changed "undocumented immigrants" to "illegal immigrants" once, and changed plain "immigrants" to "illegal immigrants." He also removed the word "filthy" from "filthy detention camps."
The edit he deleted here does break ROCEJ in its phrasing, I'll give him that, but his edit reason, "Political bitching about President Trump being "sinister" by holding a light orb." isn't very nice.
Here he claims that "Systematic racism is a lie, made up to justify rioting burning shops that had nothing to do with the "problems" down. BLM are the White Fang." [The White Fang are an evil group from RBWY.]
In short, the guy's clearly here to make the wiki conform to his political agenda.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenShipping Wank and Character Bashing Live Action TV
Vrotdugi made this edit to Supernatural deleting most of the entry's commentary on what I have found to my knowledge to be accurate and neutrally-written descriptions of the criticisms viewers had about the ending, changing it to complain about Destiel (Dean/Castiel) shippers, even though the debates over the show queerbaiting with Destiel have become a mainstream issuenote On that note, the edit that claims all of the staff have spoken out against Destiel being a thing is also blatantly untrue: while some have certainly denied it and possibly chalked it up to delusional shippers, others have openly supported it and the show features several characters who openly behave like an explicit Shipper on Deck, which means the situation is more accurately described as Armed with Canon or intermittent Running the Asylum by more ship-friendly staffers. In fact, multiple Word of Saint Paul openly supporting Destiel is the main reason why the show became so controversial, since it made accusations from fans of Western Bait-and-Switch Lesbians credible for once as the creators couldn't fall back on the reliable method of calling them a platonic duo with Relationship Writing Fumble-induced plausible deniability otherwise..
They also removed this entry describing the show's Take That! jokes aimed at Wincest (Dean/Sam Winchester, who are brothers) fans. Though I'm not especially sad to see the latter gone due to its inherent negativity, the entry was accurate and written objectively, and they gave no good reason as to why they removed it.
As someone who does not watch the show but is somewhat familiar with aspects of it through (mostly non-shipper) friends who do, I started watching the page to guard it against potential Fan Dumb and Hate Dumb vandalism in the wake of the various November 5 controversies. Since then there's been several entries about Castiel which even I found to be excessively negative. And looking at their past edits I noticed that indeed they were all by this same troper. More specifically, they added this entry accusing Castiel of being a Villain Protagonist who is cruel to one of the heroes (given the show, literally all of the heroes are guilty of major wrongdoing and he is not unique), as well as this Unfortunate Implications entry accusing him of being abusive, which I deleted and rewrote because it did not even bother to provide a qualified citation, on top of being obvious character-bashing.
While Castiel isn't a character without controversy or legitimate reasons to dislike him, it's usually not centered around these particular issues. In particular, both of these interpretations are widely considered to be Ron the Death Eater takes from the extreme end of the Wincest shipping fandom by people with a Die for Our Ship grudge against Castiel, or hardcore Sam Winchester stans who are convinced that Castiel "wronged" their fave. In other words, a Vocal Minority opinion, and not one that is shared or considered rational by a large part of the audience.
Together it is clear that they are posting with a clear shipping agenda at work. I'm not going to criticize them for their choice of ship as I quite frankly do not care for ship wars or arguments on their morality or not. But as someone who has dealt with cleaning up shipping-related vandalism on multiple pages in the past, it's a huge Berserk Button for me, to the point that I've started following pages such as these specifically to keep that kind of garbage from happening on my watch (which inevitably did). If Vrotdugi sees this thread, I should make this very clear: we do not tolerate that sort of behavior on this website.

Edited by MagnimikopenReport Troper
I'm going to be honest, I was going to wait for tomorrow to thoroughly go through Neeku-Nekku-Nakuru-Nikua's edit and forum history to file a long and comprehensive report, but the situation's simplified itself by becoming an Edit War.
- Here he is over-potholing a CM entry with an edit reason that for some reason talks about grammar
- Here it is being reverted to bring it back into entry guidelines
- Here he is reverting it back and threatening to report the other user if they change it again.
There's a whole lot of other stuff on the CM thread of him asking a bunch of questions that are all answered in the pinned post and then not listening to the answers we give him, but this makes the whole situation pretty simple honestly.
Edit: Their most recent post really summarizes the problem - beyond the threatening tone, he says "don’t make grammar issues of any kinds", which is kinda a problem for someone basically declaring themselves the grammar police.
Edited by STARCRUSHER99openTroper with a variety of issues
gamerzillasaurusrex2000 is a troper who caught my eye for unilaterally adding an image to Post-Climax Confrontation that then had to be IP'd (and will likely be pulled). When I checked their edits, well... Let's just say I see nothing good:
- They keep adding errors where none previously existed. For instance, changing correct indentation to wrong indentation even after a notifier, or adding several instances of tropeslashing.
- They keep deleting spoiler tags for no given reason (yes, same page as the indentation one, but both issues are present)
- They also appear to have an issue with run-on sentences, something present in most of their edits; you can see a lot of it on Analysis.Post Climax Confrontation, where they wrote everything. (Oh, and they didn't index it either...)
So yeah, while I haven't sent this person a ton of notifiers especially compared to how I usually handle it, their issues seem too numerous and consistent for me to not report them early.
Edited by WarJay77openStFan and Unilateral Page Changes / Enforcing Preferred Policy
This came out of a recent ATT thread I made asking to clarify a site policy. I'm pasting and expanding on a comment I made in that thread.
St Fan has a habit of editing pages to standardize the folders + categories which in of itself isn't bad. However, they often enforce a very particular idea of grammar and categorization that isn't necessarily based on any consensus/site policy and they will unilaterally edit the relevant pages where you would check to verify such a policy, later using that unilateral edit to justify making other edits elsewhere. See:
- This query [1] and this one [2] where St Fan states a "site policy" that has never existed as a fact to justify their edits
- Or this query I made after messaging them about another page reordering they did for Mysterious Purple. In our messages, after I questioned the re-ordering, St Fan essentially told me that's how it's done on the index page, ergo that's the default policy and you can see him making the same argument in that thread here [3]. And I find this suss b/c one glance at the page history for the Manga and anime indices would show St Fan reorganizing it going back to 2014 so of course it would reflect their personal organizing preferences. and in the end, the agreed upon ordering was what was originally there before St. Fan edited the page.
- this query about St Fan making a unilateral edit to Media Categories. This is relevant because St Fan is "correcting" other pages based on this change they themself made, despite there being no consensus in favor of (or outright against) this change
- And this query where they ignore the consensus built in the ATT thread to continue unilaterally editing out AC formatting for folders
I'm not sure how much if any of this is actually against site policy, but I wanted to consolidate all of this in one post because I've noticed this particular troper pop up quite a bit recently with similar issues

openTroper making very short subpages
Spectacular Troper has been making very short Even Evil Has Standards subpages for Western Animation. EvenEvilHasStandards. The Powerpuff Girls was just made with six bullets total, EvenEvilHasStandards.Harley Quinn 2019 has only three bullets, EvenEvilHasStandards.GI Joe A Real American Hero has four bullets, and EvenEvilHasStandards.Futurama has five bullets. Some pages they split off do have sufficient examples for a subpage, but these seem far too short and could just be merged back onto the main page. Couldn't find an appropriate forum thread for the issue so I came here.
Edited by mightymewtronopenREPORT TROPER + PLAGIARISM ALERT
Yeah, about that title...
A troper by the name verissimoallan made a ton of Creator pages for Brazilian / South American actors and celebrities, with his (?) numerous edits dating back to circa 2019. Many of these are stub-pages, although some of his pages do have content ... which is fine and dandy, we all love South America, don't we? Yes, we do...
But what we don't love, is PLAGIARISM, and that's precisely what verissi had done. Here be a checklist:
- Flávia Alessandra — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Monique Alfradique — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Juliana Alves — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Giovanna Antonelli — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Taís Araújo — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Viviane Araújo — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Karina Bacchi — Content stolen from the Other Wiki, also note that verissi stole the original wiki image as well before another troper replaced it.
- Gracyanne Barbosa — Content stolen from the Other Wiki; again, the original image was stolen from wikipedia as well before someone else replaced it.
- Marina Ruy Barbosa — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Liliana Castro — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Bianca Comparato — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki, although the image was slightly cropped in this case
- Carolina Dieckmann — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki. The Creator page has an additional line added by someone else, however.
- Isabelle Drummond — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Lima Duarte — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Priscila Fantin — Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- Vanessa Giácomo — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Reynaldo Gianecchini — Content stolen from the Other Wiki. The edit history shows that the image (apparently from some film festival) was stolen from the same source too, but the troper used the uncropped version instead.
- Ingrid Guimarães — Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- Giselle Itié — Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- Fabiana Karla — Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- A Grande Familia — The lengthy synopsis of the entire show is lifted from The Other Wiki. And it has two tropes.
- José Mojica Marins — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Bruna Marquezine — Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- Grazi Massafera — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Agatha Moreira — Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- Juliana Paes — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Mariana Ximenes — Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- Fernanda Paes Leme — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Isabella Santoni— Content stolen from the Other Wiki
- Tatá Werneck — Content and Image stolen from the Other Wiki
- Gabriela (2012) — show's synopsis is lifted from The Other Wiki, save for one sentence
Note that ALL those pages, according to the edit history (whose figures are in the single digits, save for some clean-up efforts and tweaking), are all made by the same user, (check his (?) edit history here) with some of the plagiarized content dating back to 2018.
Alinne Moraes narrowly avoided plagiarism because when verissi made her page in late-2019, he literally slapped entire paragraphs of text from the actress' wikipedia page onto her trope page. But since then two other tropers made additional edits and removed whatever plagiarism traces.
Yep, there's a content thief hanging out in this website, and they have been doing this ever since 2018. Thought we wouldn't catch it, we did.
You're welcome, mods.

Edited by AnoBakaDesuopenTroper with nattering issues
This troper frequently goes into Thread Mode, adding their personal opinions to trope entries, arguing with examples, and calling out other tropers on adding things they find disagreeable (not in the edit reasons, in the examples themselves).
- Asking if an Ass Pull entry really is an Ass Pull, because "The movie is hardly going to give away the twist".
- Griping about Karen haters and misogynists.
- One case of them calling out a troper directly on the work's main page.
- Another case of contesting an example.
- Natter that causes the example to go against itself.
Also, most of these insertions of natter aren't capitalized properly. They also added a rather red-flag-raising entry on this page.
Edited by Shadow8411openNew problem troper
noobmaster 69420 is a new troper who has just added this to the main page for Funny Afro:
- CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE EDIT OR DELTE THIS FUCKING PAGE. Having an afro isn't inherently funny. I don't know how to edit pages, but frankly, this article still should not be up in it's current form. Especially after the Ian JQ citing this very article as an example of the sometimes un-inclusiveness present in nerd culture
So yeah. Off to a great start...Also, because of the name and their recent ban from the site, is this maybe Yeetus Deletus 69420 ban evading?
openTroper Report
So we've got a troper on the CM thread who's now hit strike three on a bit of a Single-Issue Wonk. Their name is Cartoon All Stars, and they seem very determined to get some CMs from Kamen Rider Saber. No problem in itself, but their way of going about it is just to keep asking the thread about it, even though they've been told multiple times to stop asking because none of the "regulars" watched it.
First they asked here on the discussion day, only to be told that neither of the two people that reserved it ended up watching it. Then, they got aggressive about it (the post was thumped, but it was "calling" the tropers that usually discuss the show to discuss it, even though they both said they didn't watch it). Then, they posted suggestions themselves, at which point they were advised to check it out themselves - advice that they didn't take, because they just asked about it again.
For what it's worth, asking the same question multiple times in spite of getting a response is not new behavior for them - they did the same with Aldrich Killian, where they asked about him, got a response immediately, then asked again later for no reason. There's only so many ways we can ask someone to stop or just watch the work themselves before it becomes clear that they're not actually listening to what we say, and I don't really know what else can be done but ask for mod intervention at this point.
open New Troper issue
New Troper Autistic Kid 2003 has been going to several pages and adding new images without discussion. Normally I'd chalk this up to just being new to the site, but the fact that they're deleting commented-out notes specifically stating to go to a proper thread before adding an image seems too deliberate to chalk up to inexperience.
Examples here, here, and here.
Troper history here.
openQuotes page has real suicide notes on it
So, while doing a Wiki Walk, I stumbled across Quotes.Goodbye Cruel World, and immediately noticed the fact that it has real-life suicide notes on it. And this isn’t just one or two quotes, either, it’s over half the page. While I do understand that other quote pages have real-life quotes, it just feels very uncomfortable reading the suicide note of a real person who killed themself. Should the real-life quotes be removed?

On the Love to Hate page, a Troper changed these two examples:
To this:
With the only edit reason being a single word: improvement
Given how the new examples are basically the old ones with new names, it seems like the troper altered them because they personally did not like Dimentio and Ghetsis. I am going to change it back, but should I PM them and let them know that however they personally feel about an entry does not matter, that an entry is never 'wrong', and that they should stop acting like they are Righting Great Wrongs?
