Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
You shouldnt just wait till they see this. You are supposed to call them here.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Yeah, go ahead and PM them a link to this thread.
Um, actually, it's not an established convention that we call folks to Ask The Tropers. I'll ask my colleagues about this.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAt any rate, do I have permission to undo some of those edits in the meantime?
Bumping to get a response.
Shipping topics are always a headache, I can try to learn the abridged version of the show and see if I can help.
This isn't the kind of thing that needs knowledge of the show to deem vandalism or not. It's a user whose edits show a pattern of removing information considered too sympathetic to one character and the group of fans who like him in favor of another, even when the information is factual/the rewrites are inaccurate or fringe viewpoints.
I just want to give others a heads-up in case this user attempts to pull an edit war, as such shippers are wont to do, as well as know if anything can be done to keep them from being a repeat offender. The fact that I've gotten such an overwhelming number of thumbs-up for this thread as I have, is something I'm already taking as implicit approval for me to revert bad-faith edits, but an explicit go-ahead to confirm that my actions are not unilateral would be helpful.
Edited by AlleyOopThen we should do a talk with the editor doing these changes.
Maybe you could undo some of the changes, whilst also sending a PM?
Edited by MonsundI mean, well, yes, that's exactly what I asked for clarification on. We're not obligated to pull problem editors into the thread, and usually it's not necessary unless we need clarification on their motives or believe they can be reasoned with. Editors who come in with a distinct agenda don't usually fit either bill, especially not those whose agenda is Tumblr shipping.
Now, if they take my edits in stride, get the hint, and stop, then that's fine. But if they keep it up or throw a tantrum, then we have a documented record over which we can suspend them.
Edited by AlleyOopProbably just do an edit and give reasoning that their edit was too emotionally charged/shipping driven and wait for a response as you suggested above.
That's... what I just said.
I meant the idea you came up with sounded like a good solution.
Sent a notifier to begin with.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWent and reverted most of the changes. Although I also reverted the Trivia deletions, if someone else wants it gone on the grounds of it being unnecessarily lengthy I would not oppose it.

Vrotdugi is at it again. Their edit reason is highly biased. Regarding the first claim that it was explicitly confirmed that Dean did not reciprocate, that's not true at all. So far official staff have said almost nothing about it or Dean's possible feelings at all (whatever few comments have been made about it do not support their claim that he didn't reciprocate, but rather leave room for a case of Cannot Spit It Out). In fact the CW's refusal to acknowledge the scene, not even to just deconfirm Dean having feelings for Castiel, is a large source of many people's frustration.
And Vrotdugi's claim that the translation is fake and confirmed by Misha Collins himself is also untrue or at least a heavy misrepresentation of the truth. The Spanish translation is legit and official, whether you consider it canon or not. All Misha Collins stated was that Dean's explicit reciprocation was not present in the original English script, which most people agreed on. The supposed "rogue Spanish translator" turned out to be the director of the Spanish dub who admitted to it being a change in the script, but also one made with the approval of everyone else involved. To call it "faked" is extremely misleading language as some degree of creative liberty is a standard part of the translating job.
I'm going to revert the change to the original, and will point to this post and this thread if they attempt to edit war or repeat their behavior again.

Vrotdugi made this edit to Supernatural deleting most of the entry's commentary on what I have found to my knowledge to be accurate and neutrally-written descriptions of the criticisms viewers had about the ending, changing it to complain about Destiel (Dean/Castiel) shippers, even though the debates over the show queerbaiting with Destiel have become a mainstream issuenote .
They also removed this entry describing the show's Take That! jokes aimed at Wincest (Dean/Sam Winchester, who are brothers) fans. Though I'm not especially sad to see the latter gone due to its inherent negativity, the entry was accurate and written objectively, and they gave no good reason as to why they removed it.
As someone who does not watch the show but is somewhat familiar with aspects of it through (mostly non-shipper) friends who do, I started watching the page to guard it against potential Fan Dumb and Hate Dumb vandalism in the wake of the various November 5 controversies. Since then there's been several entries about Castiel which even I found to be excessively negative. And looking at their past edits I noticed that indeed they were all by this same troper. More specifically, they added this entry accusing Castiel of being a Villain Protagonist who is cruel to one of the heroes (given the show, literally all of the heroes are guilty of major wrongdoing and he is not unique), as well as this Unfortunate Implications entry accusing him of being abusive, which I deleted and rewrote because it did not even bother to provide a qualified citation, on top of being obvious character-bashing.
While Castiel isn't a character without controversy or legitimate reasons to dislike him, it's usually not centered around these particular issues. In particular, both of these interpretations are widely considered to be Ron the Death Eater takes from the extreme end of the Wincest shipping fandom by people with a Die for Our Ship grudge against Castiel, or hardcore Sam Winchester stans who are convinced that Castiel "wronged" their fave. In other words, a Vocal Minority opinion, and not one that is shared or considered rational by a large part of the audience.
Together it is clear that they are posting with a clear shipping agenda at work. I'm not going to criticize them for their choice of ship as I quite frankly do not care for ship wars or arguments on their morality or not. But as someone who has dealt with cleaning up shipping-related vandalism on multiple pages in the past, it's a huge Berserk Button for me, to the point that I've started following pages such as these specifically to keep that kind of garbage from happening on my watch (which inevitably did). If Vrotdugi sees this thread, I should make this very clear: we do not tolerate that sort of behavior on this website.
