https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arata_souma.png
Steve Urkel's Long Lost Brother

Arata makes square by square art for all kinds of mediums, be it for a poster or even retro game design. His modest art style even fits his attitude towards others. Fellow artists have described Arata as very positive and supportive, always giving others good advice and motivation to push forward whenever it’s needed. Happy-Go-Lucky and always willing to help, Arata has made his way to the top of the pixel empire, and can’t wait to meet you there as well.

Flora

Super High School Level Gardener

“<Who are you?! Where am I?!>”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flora_6.png
Poison Ivy's Lesser Known Sidekick

Though she’s by no means famous, it takes little searching to find out about Flora. The caretaker of a rather extravagant garden on the roof of a skyscraper in downtown Tokyo that houses Morigami Pesticide, inc., she’s shrouded in secrecy. Though little is known about her other than her work with plants, weirdly enough Morigami’s spokesperson has issued public statements denying the corporation has any ties to the girl, stating that ‘she just sort of came there one day and wouldn’t leave’. A year ago the Morigami building was destroyed in an explosion, and Flora vanished, but she’s definitely the same Flora now appearing on the Hope’s Peak Academy class roster.

Played by: Lime!

  • Color-Coded Characters: Green.
  • Creepy Child: She’s technically fifteen, but she sure looks like one.
  • Cute Mute: Though her personality isn't cute at all, she's rather adorable from a physical standpoint. Also, she doesn't talk.
  • Meaningful Name: Flora. Flower.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: Believes all humans deserve to die. She, being an honorary plant, is of course exempt. She's also started making exceptions.
  • The Nicknamer: Though not particularly clever about it, she uses shorthand like 'Loud Person' or 'Magic Man' to refer to people instead of actual names.
  • No-Sell: Completely unaffected by the first motive. She kept the objects and ate the notes without a single emotional reaction.
  • The Unapologetic: While she realizes that murdering someone was bad, she doesn't feel any guilt for the victim and only regrets the outcome.

Played by: Addlez!

  • Gibbering Genius: They are quite knowledgeable, but they have a tendency to ramble and go on unrelated tangents that are more confusing than informative.
  • Third-Person Person: It's noted that they talk like this, it's just not written out except in certain situations.

Kris Tenshi

Super High School Level Street Magician

“Oh, world, I know you hate me and all, but why won’t you just let me sleep?”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kris_tenshi.png
Your Mind Makes Him Real

As his name would suggest, Kris Tenshi prides himself as being on par if not better than the famed illusionist Criss Angel at the art of street magic — and unlike most others, this young man can certainly back it up! Having spent the better part of two years touring Japan with his camera crew and parlor tricks, the Super High School Level Street Magician is a household name these days — it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t caught a glimpse of this blue-haired pretty boy, with his extravagant performances that often come as unprepared as the crowd to see him — until he’s standing in the middle of it and levitating them all! There’s certainly nothing this boy wonder can’t or won’t do — other than reveal his true name, of course! You’re gonna have to catch him off-guard to do that…an impossible feat?

Played by: Sandy!

  • The Ace: Skilled in magic, and the many tricks of the trade, including lock-picking and misdirection. He's cauterized a leg wound with nothing but nitrocellulose, benzene, a lighter and his bare hand. He appears to have enough medical knowledge to actually make it work.
  • The Atoner: A unique case, in that while he doesn't regret the crime, he clearly regrets the outcome, and strives to help the others not fall into the same fate he has suffered.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While Kris is generally affable and gets along with most, he's not someone you want to cross lightly.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Despite having been dead for an unspecified period of time, he remains protective of the memory of his younger sister, and extends that same fondness to some of his classmates.
  • Broken Bird: Despite how Kris carries himself, it's clear that dying has taken quite a toll on his mental health.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Blue.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Both his original hair-colour and eye-colour were brown, and he has dyed the former the same colour as his contact lenses - dark blue.
  • Declaration of Protection: Makes this for Huang and Mari.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has one under his left eye in the shape of a cross. Subverted in that it was self-inflicted as part of his performing persona and does not have any real purpose other than to look cool.
  • Hidden Depths: It's made apparent that Kris isn't as unfeeling and off-handed about his status as a murderer. He simply does his best not to remind himself of it whenever possible.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Downplayed. Kris is less of a jerk and more abrasive at times, but he generally means well.
  • Nerves of Steel: It's hard to find something that actually gives Kris a flat-out shocked reaction. The most he will do is raise an eyebrow.
  • No-Sell: Considers the first motive to be this, at first. Quickly rescinds it upon seeing its effects firsthand.
  • Parody Name: Acknowledged in-character and by his creator: Kris Tenshi is a deliberate Affectionate Parody and Shout-Out to famous magician Criss Angel, and it's specifically noted that it happens to be an alias that Kris chose for himself. His real name is unknown at the moment.
  • Sympathetic Murderer: As revealed, Kris' murder was entirely in self-defense, and as such, he did not possess the same murderous intent the rest of his classmates may have had.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: At 5'8", downplayed on the 'Tall' bit but fits everything else to a tee.
  • These Hands Have Killed: While he acknowledges that yes, he is a killer, the fact that it was in self-defense makes it less harsh on his psyche.
  • Unwanted Revival: He bemoans the fact that he was brought back to life to begin with, as now he must live with all the regrets he has had since dying. Downplayed in that, while he may complain about it, ultimately he desires to live in order to protect those of his classmates that he has come to trust (e.g. Mari and Huang), he wants to reunite with what's left of his family.

Mari Tatsuko

Super High School Level Cake Decorator

“I’m… This isn’t… Definitely not Hell or Heaven… Purgatory? Limbo? No… That can’t be right either.”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mari_tatsuko.png
This Cake Ain't A Lie

Despite her young age, Mari Tatsuko has already made an impact in the culinary world, especially when it comes to baking and decorating cakes. Currently working at Sutāraitokēki (Starlight Cakes in English), she is still astounding people with her uniquely creative cakes. Her cakes have a special quality that she feels cake decorators are missing. She likes to try and incorporate something personal from the requester(s).

Her first success was made in France at Sucrecoeur Bonbons (Sugarheart Sweets in English), a sweet shop and bakery that was already famous over France. It was shut down 1 year ago due to legal issues. Mari’s success there 3 years ago helped bring more fame. Her achievement had involved baking a cake for the famous 15 year old at the time genius artist Lucas Marc Durant, who had only accepted a cake from that shop. Mari’s cake had been beautiful, and included a canvas, and in the end, Lucas had painted with edible paint on the canvas made of cake before it was revealed. Her prior successes to returning to Japan and then her further successes in Japan secured her an invitation to Hope’s Peak.

Played by: Hope!

  • The Atoner: Her current actions seem to be attempting to repent.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: As the secret motive is revealed, Mari's family situation is also revealed to be pretty messed up.
  • Broken Bird: Since losing her leg, her mental health has also taken a heavy toll, leaving her with little sleep and a lack of appetite.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Not only does she have a sad backstory, she then proceeds to attack Monten-cchi after the Chapter One execution, thus breaking a rule. She loses a leg as a result.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Seems someone in the prior game has softened her, and now she seems more open to people.
  • Dramatic Sit-Down: After gaining access to the computer files, Mari is the first to see her own. She ends up sitting at the fountain, struggling to keep herself standing after reading how cold the file is.
  • Gone Horribly Right: She seems to wish she could have tried things another way, rather than succeeding the way she did.
  • Humans Are Bastards: Still believes in this though.
  • Parental Abandonment: When speaking with Kris in Chapter One, she reveals she has no family, and her guardian is someone called 'Emi'.
  • Parental Substitute: Instead of her actual parents, she has her uncle as a parent in France, then Emi back in Japan.
  • Sweet Tooth: She usually picks up ice cream as a snack.
  • Sympathetic Murderer: Mari has already proven that she wished she never murder and had been able to do things another way.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Mari evidently shows remorse for her actions, and guilt for her murder. She seems to be in a constant state of sorrow about it.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cake. It's obviously cake.

Super High School Level FX Makeup Artist

Played by: Chelse!

  • Bratty Half-Pint: Despite being just as old as the rest of her classmates, her short height and childish demeanor could certainly fool people.
  • Creepy Child: Even if she does look sweet enough, her morbid fascination with blood, guts and gore reveals just how downright creepy she really is.
  • Crocodile Tears: While she does genuinely cry from time to time, more often than not Mika's sobbing is just an attempt to get attention from others.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Has mentioned having numerous stuffed animals in her room and is always seen carrying a stuffed sheep around in her jacket.
  • The Nicknamer: Gives everyone she meets cutesy nicknames, such as calling Callisto "Calamari" or Honoka "Nyamada".
  • Spoiled Brat: With her being the youngest child in her family and her parents being famed celebrity actors, she's been quite spoiled and pampered her whole life.
  • Sweet Tooth: Along with her cutesy and adorable appearance, Mika also has quite the sweet tooth to match. As long as it's sugary and sweet enough, Mika will eat it.

Rinkaku

Super High School Level Cold Case Detective

“What...the fuck...”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rinkaku.png
I Don't Get This Either

“Rinkaku” is the name you will find under the title of SHSL Cold Case Detective. There isn’t much known about Rinkaku himself, only his date of birth, the location where he worked before coming to Hope’s Peak, and where he currently lives [the Academy itself]. Born on June 29th, Rinkaku is 19 years of age, and is currently employed under the Ikebukuro Police Department as head of their Cold Case Investigations. Anyone who meets him can say he’s good at his job, but not good at socializing. People often avoid talking with Rinkaku unless they absolutely have to. Standoffish and a little cruel, Rinkaku isn’t easy to talk to.

Played by: Jirdan!

Salem Crowley

Super High School Level Horror Novelist

“Kehahahahaha!!!! Rise and shine, rise and shine!!! What a lovely day to cheat death, wouldn’t you say? Kukukuku!!!”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/salem_crowley.png
Fitting Pen Name Is Fitting

Be it the monsters in your closet or the things that go bump in the night, most everyone is afraid of something. Fear is one of humankind’s most primal emotions — and few can exploit it as well as the one who calls themself “Salem Crowley.” A (largely self-proclaimed, but with their recent Hope’s Peak invite, perhaps the bragging is warranted?) master of all things creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky, their tales strike fear into the hearts of the many that read them, making them a favorite among horror fans and avid readers alike.

The tales of Salem Crowley are gripping, with interesting plots, fascinating characters, and truly haunting imagery. The thing their novels are most known for is how… vague the stories seem to be. While hints that a supernatural element is at work are present in the story, it’s never explicitly stated, presented in a way that makes readers question what’s really happening. With translations in numerous languages of their books, and even rumors of a film coming sometime soon, it’s no wonder how the self-titled Monarch of Macabre got recruited into Hope’s Peak’s lineup of star students. Their real name turns out to be Itsuki Suzuki, and they end up being the killer of Chapter 2.

Played by: Britt!

Shinobu Kanamori

Super High School Level Welder

“M… Mom? Fukui? Where…?”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shinobu_kurahara.png
Favourite Music Genre's Heavy Metal

Heir of Kanamori Metalworking, Shinobu was born into a long line of welders. Observing his parents work at a young age inspired him to pursue the craft on his own. He asked questions, looked at examples, and compiled notes so he would be able to weld properly. It took years of begging, but at the age of thirteen the boy was able to gain hands-on experience. He was proven to be a natural at the craft, fixing all sorts of structures on the fly. His stature and flexibility allowed him to weld in the most unreachable of places. The boy’s achievements soon gathered many customers to his family’s business, including Hope’s Peak Academy. Small in size yet large in heart, Shinobu overcompensates his childish appearance through hard work and determination. He's the victim of Chapter 2.

Played by: Laglaff!

  • Break the Haughty: Shinobu was more prideful before his execution, but now... not so much.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Has this reaction to the concern everyone has after his fight with the mascot. He's wrong.
  • Fun T-Shirt: Courtesy of his aunt, though he doesn't think so. It gets slashed when he stands up to Monten-cchi. He wears another cool shirt from his aunt later on.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: This gets deconstructed when he yells at Monten-cchi, earning him a terrible injury in the process.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Despite his accusations that Mika was a lying to get sympathy, he tells her that he hopes that she would have "a merciful death".
  • Tiny Schoolboy: At 4'9", he's the second shortest of the cast.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Oranges. His least favorite food is cheese and, by extension, milk.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Downplayed, but he continuously yells at Huang to stop helping him while he's treating his injury.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Until the first trial, he hadn't had the energy to put on a shirt so he technically was this.

Shion Kataoka

Super High School Level Fencer

“Th’ hell am I doin’ ‘ere. And who th’ fuck’re you guys?”

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shion_kataoka.png
Sephiroth Called: Wants Hair Back

Shion Kataoka is the first and only living son of the infamous Kataoka family. Seemingly spoilt rotten from the day of his birth and always having everything handed to him on a silver platter, he’s not someone you might expect to worry about a career. And yet, for what seems to be years, he’s practised the ancient art of fencing. He’s notably quite graceful on his feet, having been trained one-on-one with a private tutor for as long as he can remember, and he’s the undefeated champion in many tournaments throughout the country.

It would be somewhat hard to imagine a world where Hope’s Peak didn’t take notice of Shion, and although he already had top-notch education taught to him in-home at the expense of his family, he fully accepted the school’s offer in hopes of furthering the Kataoka name to not just all of Japan, but the world as well!
