"La classe!"note

"He who laughs last, laughs best, right?"

The upbeat, determined hero of the game. Living alongside his adopted kid sister Chocolat, Red Savarin works as a Hunter— not necessarily a bounty hunter in the traditional sense, but rather a hero-for-hire who assists with odd jobs like finding lost items or performing pest control. He's equipped with the Dahak, a strange dragon-like Robo which can most notably use its arms for lifting heavy objects (and throwing them). Personality-wise, Red is brash, impulsive and has a tendency to say things that get him in trouble or accidentally offend others, but above all, he's a good guy who will always help out when the opportunity arises, and will always see things through to the end.

While his breed is listed a mutt, he visually resembles an Akita Inu, but since his mother is Merveille genetically, he could be some kind of Collie mix.

  • Anti Anti Christ: He was originally meant to help Baion destroy all life like Nero and Blanck were, and it's shown that his base programming to do so is still there deep down when Tartaros brings it out. However, a mixture of being a failure and living alongside the people of Shepherd allowed Red to learn the value of life and companionship. With this, he was able to grow beyond his original purpose, even being the one to stop Baion's plans.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: He's certainly become this by the game's conclusion— he knows that the Caninu and Felineko have done many terrible or foolish things just like the humans before them, but nevertheless affirms that even if all of them are failures in some way, they can and have still choosen to look out for one another and help each other learn and grow.
  • Artificial Human: Red was among the pseudo-hybrids who were created in a lab by Merveille and Baion rather than being born naturally.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Depending on how you play, Red can certainly be this (and it's probably pretty close to his official characterization).
  • Badass Adorable: Alman and even Opéra both refer to him as "dumpling" on occasion.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: At some points with Elh. Usually they're good about working together without problems, but if he does something particularly stupid he'll certainly hear about it.
  • BFS: Red's stun gun has a really big bayonet that's longer than the gun itself and taller than he is, and yet he only uses it as a stun gun outside his robot.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: His father's the Big Bad, his mother was once allied with a corrupt military force that tried to kill him on multiple occasions, and he has six brothers and sisters, four of which also tried to kill him with one of them being responsible for wiping his memory, ensuring that he can't remember anything past the previous 7 years.
  • Blood Knight: He's ultimately a nice and easygoing guy, but he's also the most aggressive protagonist in the series so far, particularly during battle. Though given he was initially created for destruction, it could be argued as being a byproduct of his original programming.
  • Born as an Adult: Downplayed. While it's not made explicit, he was created nine years before the game's events as an eight-year-old boy, but aged normally from that point on.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: When Tartaros orders him to "return order to time", reducing him to his original programming to destroy all life. Under its influence, he sends Nero and Blanck crashing down into the Cloud Sea, and attempts to strangle Elh to death.
  • Bring It: Every time Red is faced with someone or something bigger than him, he doesn't hesitate to goad them into a fight.
Red: "Hullo ladies! If you want a piece of this tail, come and get it!"
  • Brother–Sister Team: With Chocolat. He does all the (literal) heavy lifting, and she manages their home and finances.
  • Cain and Abel: He's the Abel to Nero and Blanck's Cain. In an ironic sense, Red is the one to land the killing blow (though not by choice).
  • Came Back Strong: After having his life force sacrificed to reawaken Lares only to survive it and come back to life almost immediately, Red claims to feel better than ever. As a result of it, he's able to finally access Trance through a strong desire to protect someone.
  • Catchphrase: "When I get down to work, there's just no stopping me!"
  • Character Development: Matures into a calmer, more worldly person by the end of the game, especially thanks to his relationship with Elh and overcoming his origins as a hybrid.
  • Chick Magnet: He gets a few female admirers throughout the game, from Toffee to Princess Therria. Unfortunately for them, Red doesn't realize they're hitting on him.
  • Color Character: Red Savarin. In case you can't tell, he's the Hot-Blooded hero in the red Adventurer Outfit.
  • Colourful Theme Naming: Shared between him and the other pseudo-hybrids.
  • Combining Mecha: Just before the Final Boss, his Dahak uses the data of Nero's Zairita and Blanck's Srvara to transform into the Septentrion, a flying wyvern-like mecha.
  • Conscience Makes You Go Back: When Elh is captured by the Kurvaz after trying to sacrifice him in the Rite of Forfeit, Red briefly thinks to leaving and declaring the whole issue someone else's problem, only to remember that she had little choice in the situation she was in.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To Waffle Ryebread. Unlike how Waffle is a friendly All-Loving Hero who hates confrontation and tries to talk things out with his enemies, one of the first things Red does in the entire game is to badmouth enemy soldiers and immediately go for fighting them head-on.
  • Determinator: A recurring characteristic of Red's is his willingness to see things through to the end, no matter what emotions or obstacles get in the way.
  • Edible Theme Naming: A savarin is a type of rum-filled pastry.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: For both halves of the game.
    • Just before the Disc-One Final Boss, Red activates Trance for the first time and uses it to defeat Merged Bruno.
    • Before the Final Boss, the Dahak absorbs Nano Metal from Tartaros and transforms into the Septentrion thanks to the combined power of Nero, Blanck and Red himself.
  • Fanservice: His Trance form, again. There's no explicit reason for him to lose his shirt, but one may be free to interpret it as being so the Tron Lines are visible on his chest.
  • Fatal Flaw: Impulsiveness. Red is someone who prefers to act on his gut first rather than waste time thinking, and while this allows him to adapt to different jobs and overcome many opponents as is appropriate for a good Hunter, this also results in him being tactless or causing more damage than he intended. The inciting incident of the game occurs because he finds the Lares Medal and chooses to swipe it for himself, not only resulting in him failing at the job Québec gave for him, but also getting him caught up in the mess involving Lares and the Kurvaz in the first place. Following this, there are a number of examples in the game where Red's blunt-force attitude causes a few accidents: he blurts information directly to Calua that allows the Kurvaz to track the heroes; his rescue attempt on the Royal Envy nearly results in the ship collapsing into the Cloud Sea; and his first attempt at combating Nero and Blanck results in his defeat and the original Dahak being utterly thrashed. While he never outright loses his usual attitude, Red slowly learns how to be more thoughtful and introspective over the course of the story, and this allows him to better learn from his mistakes.
  • Female Feline, Male Mutt: The decidedly macho Male Mutt to Elh's Female Feline.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Foolish Sibling to Chocolat's Responsible Sibling.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: Choleric all the way. Hot-blooded, easily motivated by a challenge, and determined as he can get.
  • Funetik Aksent: In the English version, at least, Red has a habit of fast-talking to the point of occasionally missin' Gs off the ends of his words, possibly to make him come off as more of a hick in some way. Considering how neither Chocolat nor the woman who took care of them at the orphanage spoke in this manner (let alone Baion and Merveille), there's no real reason for him to speak this way.
  • Furry Reminder: Red spends a great deal of time chewing on a Stock Femur Bone, and a comic shows him chasing a disc when Elh throws it.
  • The Gadfly:
    • He seems to quite enjoy dragging poor Elh back to Vizsla with all its creepy giant insects. Considering he grew up constantly teasing his sister, that's probably how he shows affection.
    • Red's reason for wanting to force Elh to wear the Queen of the Race outfit. Fail to beat the costume time once, and Red will nearly forget about making the girls promise to wear it. Elh calls him on it, and he admits it's not really about the costume at all; he just wants to see her "get all embarrassed".
  • Goggles Do Nothing: He has goggles and might use them, but is actually never seen wearing them.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: In a 4koma comic, Red is embarrassed that Chocolat is showing off the Asmodeus while his heart-patterned boxers are hanging out.
  • Gosh Darn It to Heck!: Occasionally exclaims, "Nom de chien!" In English, this phrase translates to "In the name of dog!"
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Unlike how Nero and Blanck were intended to be "perfect" from the get-go, Merveille designed Red with some imperfections so that he could grow and evolve beyond her original calculations, although this contributed to Red initially failing the evaluations of Baion's experiments despite almost matching the capabilities of Nero and Blanck. During the game proper, it's shown that despite his first fight with Nero and Blanck being a Curb-Stomp Battle, he (and the Dahak, which is now upgraded to better evolve alongside him) is able to defeat them at their strongest in their final rematch, solidifying that he's managed to surpass them in terms of power. The Japanese art books also clarify that Orders from Juno are intended to strengthen a hybrid to their full potential. While Nero and Blanck fail to receive the Order due to their purpose having already been fulfilled (the two even lose their powers as a result), Red not having a limit on his potential allows him to receive the Order, as much as it drives him to become nothing more than a force of destruction. Even if Baion threw out Red for being a failure, the irony is that if he had kept Red around, Red would have likely surpassed Nero, Blanck and Baion's powers long before it was time to summon Tartaros.
  • Happily Adopted: Brother-sister example in Red and Chocolat. Considering she's only thirteen, he may actually have legal custody of her, despite the fact that she deals with day-to-day issues like money much better than he does.
  • Heartwarming Orphan: Red and Chocolat are what happens when Heartwarming Orphans grow up and adopt each other.
  • Henshin Hero: His Trance form.note
  • Heroic BSoD: Once he learns that he's a hybrid like the omnicidal and Ax-Crazy Nero and Blanck, Red goes into a downward spiral worrying over how he may be no different to them. Chocolat snaps him out of it by dragging him to Basset to play with the orphans and remind him that he's still the same good person she grew up with.
  • Heroic Lineage: He saves the Shepherd Republic from disaster, just like his ancestor Socks helped save the Free Lands of Gasco a millennium ago.
  • Honor Before Reason: Red usually acts before he thinks.
  • Hot-Blooded: Elh outright calls Red 'hot-headed' in the game's true post-credits scene. He frequently charges in without thinking, says some pretty cheesy things with a straight face, and only solves one of the three riddles for the Divine Flute, settling the first two with violence.
  • Humanity Ensues: His Trance form has a human appearance. Notably, in the art books, his siblings Nero and Blanck are described as "Caninu-based" pseudo-hybrids while Baion is a "full human type" hybrid.
  • Iconic Sequel Character: While Waffle is definitely still a beloved character, Red's more developed character and role as a hybrid brought a whole new layer of implications to the world of Little Tail Bronx. This extends beyond Solatorobo itself— the "Red Data Children" novels fleshed out his early life with Chocolat and the relationship he had with the other pseudo-hybrids, and despite the red tape involved with Bandai Namco, Fuga: Melodies of Steel has several Call-Forward moments to Red along with having his distant ancestor Socks Million as a playable character. With his Big Brother Mentor Carmine believed to have a role to play in the Famitsu manga adaptation of Fuga, along with Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 introducing another Hybrid with Jihl, it's clear that Red has indeed had a massive impact on his series despite only appearing in one game.
  • Idiot Hero: While not actually stupid (there are many cases where he plays the Straight Man to the game's more bizarre characters), Red's impulsiveness and brash tendencies tend to get him into trouble at times.
  • I Gave My Word: For all his hot-headed foolishness, when Red swears by his tail, he indeed swears by it, as shown by how he rescued Elh from the Kurvaz despite how she was reluctantly planning to sacrifice his life.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Red is very straightforward, to put it simply. Chocolat and Elh get on to him for it, respectively claiming he doesn't understand girls' feelings and is "an idiot with a bad mouth".
  • Interspecies Romance: Strongly teased with Elh.
  • I Was Just Passing Through: In the opening of Part 2, Chocolat asks Red if he misses Elh. His emphatic response is that no, he just misses the billion rings' worth of work he was promised! Of course no one actually buys it, but Chocolat drops the subject pretty quick anyway.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Director Frasier from the orphanage in Basset comments how Red's eyes tell her he's a good person.
  • Kid Hero: He's seventeen years old and has been a professional Hunter for two years.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Red barges into people's houses, opens their chests and takes whatever happens to be inside with nobody batting an eye.
    • Kleptomaniac Hero Found Underwear: During the quest to find Dade's poetry, searching Vanille's bed in her house will result in Red finding some underwear. Chocolat scolds him not to stare.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Downplayed. He's far from cynical, but he knows that the world can be an unforgiving place, especially once he discovers what it was before, but that doesn't mean he won't stop fighting to protect the ones he cares about.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The reason Red can't remember anything before age nine is because Merveille and Baion's Memory-Wiping Crew got to him before he could escape. A second, more benevolent case happened when Rose and Carmine wiped his and Chocolat's memories for their safety.
  • Master of Unlocking: Red manages to pick a lock using a wire (yes, just a wire) when captured by Gren in Shetland.
  • The McCoy: To Chocolat's Kirk and Elh's Spock.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His ginger-colored fur and red outfit aside, Red is the odd sibling out and the one lacking the "perfection" given to Nero and Blanck, just like how in many historical cultures the color red is often considered the odd color out compared to black and white. The Japanese art books clarify that "Red" was a codename given to him in-universe, either to denote him as a failure or to reference how Caninu and Felineko are unable to see the color red.
    • The Dahak is named after Aži Dahāka (or "Zahhak"), a serpent-like Draconic Abomination from Persian Mythology and Zoroastrian folklore, with dahāka theorized by some to mean "man-like" given that Aži Dahāka was described as having humanlike aspects in its physical appearance and intellect. It's said that he was created by Angra Mainyu/Ahriman (or per some sources like The Shahnameh, was a mortal corrupted through Ahriman's influence) as an agent of his will, and went on a horrific rampage before being imprisoned, with it being prophesied that when the world ends he will escape and kill one-third of humanity before being stopped. Red himself was originally designed to help Baion with destroying the world, and it's shown that his greatest fear is going on a rampage and killing his friends, which almost happens when the Order forces him to do so… but despite this, Red still manages to defy his original programming. To a lesser extent, the Dahak has a more humanoid appearance than the AZI-series robots piloted by Nero and Blanck, which also have names rooted in Indo-Iranian folklore.
    • As clarified by the art books, "Septentrion" is a reference to septentriones (meaning "seven plowing oxen" in Latin), an older name for the famous Big Dipper asterism within the Ursa Major constellation. The Septentrion is a Fusion Dance of Red's Dahak, Nero's Zairita, Blanck's Srvara and Nano Metal from Tartaros, but despite technically only being a fusion of these three mechs, it is said to have the capabilities of all seven AZI-series robots, hence the name.
  • Men Don't Cry: Red seems to "hold this view, as after saving Elh from some bugs and getting told to stay away, he teasingly asks "Eyes red from crying?" Of course, by that point everyone knew Elh's a girl and Red was likely just being a bit of a jerk. Red himself also lacks any sort of crying sprite.
  • Mini-Mecha: The proud pilot of the Dahak-AZI03, and gameplay surrounds fighting in it and customizing its stats. Following its destruction early on in the second half, it gets replaced with the Dahak Mk2, which is fundamentally the same, but has a Stance System that changes up the abilities it takes on, along with making it easier for Red to enter Trance.
  • Moment Killer: To Dade and Vanille. In his defense, his needed the payment for his work.
  • Named Weapons: His mech is named DAHAK-AZ103.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When Red tries to stop a gang of sky pirates stealing a warehouse in a sidequest (not the cargo of a warehouse but literally the entire building), he completely forgets that destroying the air ship using explosives would be counter productive.
  • Oral Fixation: Red is always holding a Stock Femur Bone between his teeth.
  • Potty Failure: He suffered from bedwetting as a child, at one point using the Dahak to toss his clothes and his bed into a nearby lake just to cover up his accident.
  • Pride: After the second credits, Elh claims that Red has a huge ego and refuses to tell him how important their adventures together have been to avoid it getting any bigger.
  • Protectorate: Red learns that the key to activating Trance lies with his desire to protect someone or something at all costs, at least until he receives the Dahak Mk2.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: After receiving the Order and forcibly having his Trance activated by Tartaros, Red gains these along with a Slasher Smile.
  • Rescue Romance: Double Subverted. Red saved an unconscious Elh from the Hindenburg, but their romantic feelings for each other don't show up until much later into the story.
  • Secular Hero: Red isn't a follower of the Anju religion, and dismisses Oshilasama as "superstitious nonsense". Elh, having grown up under the latter religion and learned how to control Nono from it, expresses her disappointment.
  • Ship Tease: With Elh.
  • Shock and Awe: The art books state that Red's unique ability as a hybrid is the power to conduct electricity, and that the Dahak can only be activated through the specific bio-electricity latent in his body. While Red is unable to fully unleash this power normally, in Trance he has the power to produce a bolt of electrical energy known as the "Spark Javelin".
  • Slasher Smile: He gets one when the Order is given by Tartaros, leaving him Brainwashed and Crazy. His usual upbeat, happy-yet-stubborn demeanor makes it even creepier.
  • Slipknot Ponytail: Has one that disappears when he enters Trance.
  • Stock Femur Bone: The "Nom Bome" that Red holds between his teeth, given that he's a dog.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: He's an energetic adventurer who takes up whatever odd jobs he comes across, and he prefers to solve problems with brute force as opposed to using his head. Like most other examples, he's also incredibly protective towards his friends, which even grants him a power-up in the form of Trance.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: During his Trance.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: For all intents and purposes, this is what Baion envisioned Red's Trance form as. He and the Dahak are much stronger, both of them can fly, and Red has access to Ki Manipulation. Per the 4koma comics, his Blood Knight tendencies are also more pronounced. The "Red Data Children" novels lean into this, as Red nearly went insane as a child just from being in his Trance, which was one of the major reasons why Rose and Carmine had to wipe his memory.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: After a lifetime of choosing not to dwell on his origins, he learns in the second half of the game that he's a hybrid artificially created by Merveille and Baion for the purposes of helping Baion activate CODA and end all life, only to be deemed a failure and told to escape. This hits him pretty badly.
  • Transforming Mecha: The Dahak can use "Mode Change" to switch from its normal battle form to anchor-shooting ("Mode Peche") and flight forms ("Mode Vol"). Into the second half of the game and New Game Plus runs, different upgrades of the Dahak's battle form become available to purchase.
  • Tron Lines: While they're difficult to see in-game, it's shown in this piece of artwork that Red's Dahak-fused Trance form has green lines and patterns on his torso, akin to the lines seen on Nero and Blanck's suits.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Despite how its purpose is to sacrifice a life to seal away (or awaken) Lares, Red survives the Rite of Forfeit and wakes up mere minutes afterward. It's pondered by Merveille as to being due to his hybrid physiology.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Whenever he goes into Trance. It is never explained why this happens, or why he loses his trademark bone and hat.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…:
    • The Dahak is capable of lifting and tossing things. Naturally, this applies to each and every enemy you encounter, though at least it varies between picking up the enemy itself and picking up the enemy's projectiles to return them. At least until Red learns to control his Trance, in which case the Spark Javelin becomes a viable option.
    • Likewise, Red isn't very good at solving riddles. So, when the guardians of the flute ask him riddles, he just jumps right in and attacks them instead.
  • Wrecked Weapon: His Dahak-AZI03 gets destroyed during his first confrontation with Nero and Blanc. Fortunately, this doesn't stick as he soon upgrades to the Dahak Mk2.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: A monochrome close-up of his Trance form makes a cameo appearance in Fuga's Golden Ending, but like Baion, CyberConnect2 was unable to explicitly acknowledge his existence thanks to Bandai Namco's ownership of Solatorobo itself.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: He appears to have this underneath his right eye in most in-game face portraits, made difficult to clearly distinguish due to his bangs. However, it's one long horizontal scar across his nose with smaller tears crossing it vertically.
  • Years Too Early: Red tells a rookie working under Suzette that he's a hundred years too soon to hope to win against him.
  • You Are Number 6: He is codified as Hybrid No. 3 per the art books. Not that this means anything to him, of course.
  • Younger Than They Look: While he's physically and mentally in his late teens, he was created nine years beforehand by Baion and Merveille.

    Chocolat Gelato

Chocolat Gelato (ショコラ・ジェラート, Shokora Jerāto)

Voiced by: Kana Asumi
Species: Caninu (Pomeranian)
Age: 13

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_chocolatgelatoTVT_3450.jpg
"On y va!"note

"I know you can handle it, Red!"

Red's little sister. She loves all things mechanical, and so spends a lot of time fixing up DAHAK or the Asmodeus, their home airship. She's a Caninu, but her short muzzle tends to confuse players (surprisingly, no one in game makes any mention of it).

    Elh Melizée

Elh Melizée (エル・メリゼ, Eru Merize)

Voiced by: Saori Goto
Species: Felineko (American Shorthair)
Age: 14 (chronologically 314)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_elhmelizeeTVT_2670.jpg
"Quel idiot…"note

"I want to make a contract with you."

A young Felineko who was rescued from the Hindenburg by Red, and offers him an exorbitant amount of money in exchange for helping with an ancient ritual to seal the monster Lares. Elh is blunt, taciturn, private...and not-so-secretly falling for Red. She's an American Shorthair, apparently.

  • Anger Born of Worry: After Red takes on Nero and Blanck for the first time, he barely escapes with his life. Once he wakes up and everyone is sure he's okay, Elh socks him a few times for being such an idiot. Then they comment on how it's good to see each other again after several months.
  • The Atoner: After trying to take Red's life, she spends a good portion of the second part of the game angsting about it, even to the point of telling Red it would have been okay if he'd killed her while he was Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Blocking a Macross Missile Massacre? Awesome. Fainting when Red's not around to protect you? Not so awesome.
  • Barrier Warrior
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: At some points with Red. Usually they're good about working together without problems, but if he does something particularly stupid he'll certainly hear about it.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Red. While they clash often until their Character Development comes along, they practically have the same backstory and they're more alike than Elh is willing to admit at first.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: When it comes to her feelings for Red. So, so much.
    • There's an interesting variant as well when it comes to the Rite of Forfeit, which she believes she must perform to save the world. However, knowing that it would kill Red in the process, she can't recite the chant no matter how hard she tries.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Using a large barrier spell leaves Elh exhausted to the point of collapse.
  • Cats Are Magic: Elh's Nono also reacts to certain artifacts with glowing Facial Markings and allows use of a barrier spell.
  • Cerebus Retcon: Elh's fear of bugs is generally played as a small gag now and then whenever Red visits Vizulla. "Ragdoll Elegy" reveals that Elh's last memory of her parents after they were burned alive was a swarm of bugs covering their corpes, suddenly bringing new context to her phobia.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Elh choosing between the loyalty to her duty to seal Lares (which requires the sacrifice of Red) and her loyalty to her friend.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Part of her design.
  • Deuteragonist: Goes through about as much development as Red himself throughout the game.
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: Has a fear of bugs. Elh often tells Red to hurry up and squish the bugs in Visla, and Red has to save Elh from bugs twice, once in the main story and again in a sidequest. This functions as a Protection Mission, with a glowing circle around Elh marking the line you can't allow bugs to cross (this includes if you accidentally throw a bug across the line, because apparently even a dead bug is creepy).
  • Emotionless Girl: When her (infrequent) emotional outbursts aren't being played for laughs. Later justified by the fact that she's been alive for well over 300 years. She'll admit late in the game that spending time with Red has reminded her of what happiness feels like.
  • Expy: Of C.C. from Code Geass, right up to being immortal, extremely tacit girls who form "contracts" with their respective love interests and who secretly harbor death wishes. Mostly likely unintentionally, however.
  • Facial Markings: Grey cheek stripes.
  • Fanservice: Downloadable quest #5. Red makes a not-very-willing Elh promise to wear a "queen of the race" outfit if he manages to come in first place and break the track record at the Pharaoh Air Robo GP Cup. By accomplishing both things, you receive a special photograph showing Elh and Chocolat in the aforementioned outfit, which makes them look like cheerleaders, complete with Modesty Shorts, and Exposed Animal Bellybutton.
  • Female Feline, Male Mutt: Played with, as she's female but not feminine in the slightest.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: Melancholic.
  • Gender Reveal: She's a girl, as Red unfortunately finds out in the shower. This was a surprise to both Red and Chocolat, who had been referring to her as a male for the first few chapters, although why they'd mistake her for a boy is more clear to a Japanese audience. When asked why she didn't tell them she was a girl, she simply replies with "You Didn't Ask".
  • Green-Eyed Monster: In the Prairie Kingdom Cup, Elh gets a case of this when Red gets too much attention from Princess Theria, Alicia, and Toffee.
  • He Will Come for Me: Says the inverted variant when the Kurvaz capture her to use as bait to make Red turn over the medalion. Elh says that won't work because she betrayed him, tried to sacrifice him in the Rite of Forfeit, and he won't come.
  • Hidden Depths: In Samoyede, Elh reveals that she knows a little about flowers, despite not being the girlish type; she claims it's only because they grew in her home village. Red is a little bit surprised.
  • Interspecies Romance: Teased with Red.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Elh wears boys' clothing and uses masculine pronouns in the Japanese version, completely confusing Red and Chocolat. Red later uses this fact to their advantage, though, to sneak her into an all-boys magic school. Even the guard insists that, upon closer inspection, "he couldn't possibly be a girl." Elh isn't exactly too happy about this, though.
  • Last of Her Kind: She's one of the last two Paladins along with Béluga, due to Baion burning their home Ragdoll to the ground.
  • Leave the Two Lovebirds Alone: To Red, when Béluga brings Merveille a hologram of flowers.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Elh becomes this to Red when he's under the influence of the Order, talking to him to keep him calm. Considering he tried to strangle her the first time he heard the Order, she has good reason to keep him calm.
  • The Load: In a quest after the end of the game, Red accuses Elh of eating too many free meals. When Elh turns to Chocolat for help, she agrees with her brother and says everyone on the Asmodeus has to do their share of work.
  • Luminescent Blush: Elh normally sports the "red lines across the nose" variant, but trades them for a Blush Sticker in the Queen of the Race photo, and turns entirely red during the Shower of Awkward.
  • Megaton Punch: To Red, after the second Shower of Awkward scene.
  • Modesty Towel: Worn by Elh during the Shower of Awkward scenes.
  • Mysterious Waif: Complete with MacGuffin amulet and Doomed Hometown.
  • No Social Skills: Or at least very few. Elh's just a rather private person like that.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: After Red discovers that Elh is deathly afraid of bugs and Screams Like a Little Girl at the sight of them, he makes it a point to bring it up when possible. Elh even mentions not being able to live it down.
  • Orphan's Plot Trinket: Invoked to get into the canals in Spinon, telling the worker that they dropped a pendant from Elh's dead mother in there. Of course, as soon as the worker opens the sewers for them, the waterworks immediately stop and it's back to business as usual, causing Red to comment on how creepy it is for someone to be able to turn their emotions on and off like that.
    • The actual pendant that Red found on the Hindenburg also counts, as it's one of the last Paladin relics.
  • Power-Strain Blackout: The first use of a large barrier just leaves Elh extremely fatigued and too weak to stand; the second results in actual fainting.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Being a Paladin and everything, Elh is actually 300 years old.
  • Rei Ayanami Expy: Downplayed. She's a reserved, emotionally detached Mysterious Waif associated with the color purple and serves the role as the protagonist's love interest, but she has no association with the story's Gendo Expy. It's also Red whose backstory is closer to Rei's; Elh's is simply so vaguely and undisclosed that it's impossible to say whether she fills that criteria.
  • Rescue Romance: Double Subverted. Red saved an unconscious Elh from "The Hindenburg", but their Ship Tease doesn't pick up until quite a bit later and that rescue was never mentioned.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: When confronted with bugs. Of course, given that she is a girl, it's more understandable, but Red didn't know that at the time. And again when Bruno attempts to sacrifice Red in the Rite of Forfeit.
  • Ship Tease: With Red.
  • Shower of Awkward: Done twice. Modesty Towels prevented those moments from being even more awkward.
  • The Spock: To Red's McCoy and Chocolat's Kirk.
  • The Stoic: Elh's usual facial expression is that of slight vacancy, and very few things can get a rise out of her, sometimes to the point of her being The Comically Serious.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Elh, normally calm and distant, occasionally shows a softer side (it gets shown more often as the story progresses).
  • Tender Tears: Elh apparently does not have a problem with crying, possessing at least two separate sprites with small droplets at the eye corners and displaying them without shame. The second opening animation even includes a Sparkling Stream of Tears.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Inside Lares, there's a fork in the road. Red and Béluga decide to split up, and you're forced to choose if Elh should stay with you or take the other path. Choose to go alone, and Elh will insist on going with you - but only because it's safer to separate the Paladins, of course!
"Hey! Don't get the wrong idea! I can see you getting it!"
  • That Makes Me Feel Angry: Elh, who is not very good at dealing with emotions, occasionally says things like "I feel happy" or "I feel disappointed." This is usually only in cases of positive or mild emotions, however; extreme anger doesn't need words.
  • Through a Face Full of Fur: When she blushes.
  • Vague Age: Officially listed as "looks about 14". She's really more about 314.
  • We Are As May Flies: Elh gives a speech to Raisin about how thankful he should be that he and Cerise were lucky enough to be born in the same time and how they should fight for their love, class differences or not, because life is so short.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Elh has a phobia of bugs. This becomes a problem in Visla, which is crawling with them.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: She prefers wearing boy's clothes. Yes, that skirt over pants look is for boys. Then Elh gets mad at Red when he uses this fact to their advantage to sneak her into an all-boys magic school. He insists she "couldn't be any more of a guy", and she mutters to him that she's going to have some words for him later.
  • With a Friend and a Stranger: The Stranger of the group.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Elh does a bit of angsting about losing the people she loves as they grow old while she stays the same, and she and Béluga admit that their lives feel more meaningful after losing their immortality..
  • You Didn't Ask: Elh's response when Red and Chocolat ask why she never told them she was a girl.

Leadership

"Let's make a deal."

The leader of the Kurvaz, currently the largest Hunter's Guild in Shepherd. A rather arrogant sort whose newest ambition is to Take Over the World without losing his 100% Heroism Rating.

  • Ambition Is Evil: He's dead set on awakening Lares to use its power, and Opera mentions at the end that he was a shell of his former self once he learned of the Titano-Machina.
  • Beard of Evil: Technically it's just more of his fur, but is styled like a beard on a human would be.
  • Big Bad: His chase after the medallion to awaken Lares is the major conflict of the game. At first.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He's the leader of the Kurvaz and wants to Take Over the World.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He's constantly built up as Red's ultimate enemy, and the game will make you think that throughout the adventure. Once taken out, Bruno then becomes a footnote in the story as Baion proves that things can (and will) get worse.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Bruno follows the same motivation as Fool from Tail Concerto: resurrect an ancient evil power to control. He goes down when it goes back to rest.
  • Evil Laugh: Bruno has two varieties.
  • For the Evulz: For all the times he goaded the heroes with his evil plans, Bruno's reason for wanting to Take Over the World isn't fully explored, with him seemingly desiring power for the sake of it.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: The side story "Bitter Rain" reveals that he is heavily into Nippon culture, even warning Québec to not get his Kimono dirty back when they were alies. This can also be seen with the big influence in Nippon design on the Golden Roar and Royal Envy.
The RPG Monger: I can't believe the main villain the whole time was just a massive weeb. No wonder he wants the big robot!
  • How Do I Shot Web?: The first thing he ponders upon entering Lares is how to control the beast. He quickly gets transformed by it, and may have possibly even managed to control it through the Crystal Stones and Medallion. Either way, Red defeated him before he could do anything about it.
  • Killed Off for Real: After getting absorbed by Lares upon his defeat. Subverted in the "Forest of Healing" side-story.
  • Large and in Charge: Tallest of all the characters.
  • Loophole Abuse: His profile states that he never outright breaks the law but cleverly finds ways to weasel around things that would otherwise inhibit him without losing his public image.
  • Obviously Evil: Whenever his talking portrait gets angry.
  • One-Winged Angel: The final boss battle with him.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Heavily subverted, as he has no mech of his own and prefers to bully others into doing his bidding rather than fight any battles himself. The only time this gets played straight is during the final chapter of Part I, and even then it was after he got forcibly absorbed by Lares itself and was denounced by Opéra and the other Kurvaz members.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: One of the most evil characters, and of course he has red eyes.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Baion's blue.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His hair and fur is quite spiky.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Most of the general public believes Bruno and the Kurvaz are stand-up guys and have no idea he wants to Take Over the World. Even after Bruno's death, many of the Kurvaz underlings still believe he embodied the spirit of a true Hunter and find Opéra to be a shallow imitator at best, despite the fact that she's turned the Guild around and is now working to save the world.

"Bonne chance."note

"Utterly unscientific but...I do not dislike that theory."

The Kurvaz's Development Chief and Bruno's personal secretary, though she's not at all fond of him since he began trying to Take Over the World. A genius at Mini-Mecha design, she's personally responsible for many of the mechanical innovations in the guild. She's a Collie.

  • The Atoner: She never really got over creating artificial life and helping Baion with his plans. As such, her main reason for working with the Kurvaz in the first half of the game is to find a way to permanently destroy Lares (which would also rob Baion of an asset needed to summon Tartaros), with Béluga helping her due to wanting to finally break the cycle of Human Sacrifice. After that plan fails, and Baion finally unleashes Nero and Blanck upon the world, Merveille again works to foil Baion's plans with Red's help.
  • Creating Life: She's the "mother" of Red, Nero, and Blanck.
  • Femme Fatalons: A 4koma comic pokes fun at her long nails, though one must wonder why she keeps them long if she finds them "useless".
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Especially in Mini-Mecha design and biology.
  • Geeky Turn-On: When Merveille is presented with a hologram of a field of flowers, she's just as taken with the technology as she is with the beauty of the image.
  • Generation Xerox: While she lacks any social anxiety, Merveille has a cordial manner of speech, is extremely well-versed in machines and technology, and will often absorb herself into her work as a result, much like her ancestor, Socks.
  • Heroic Lineage: She's the (technical) mother of Red, who's The Hero of the game, and is the descendant of Socks, who helped saved the world a thousand years prior to the events of Solatorobo.
  • Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: If she and Béluga ever make it official, she's the taller of the two.
  • Interspecies Romance: Teased with Béluga.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: She is calm and scientific.
  • It's All My Fault: Said by Merveille after Red kills Nero and Blanck.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Biologically, Red is the son of Merveille Million and Baion. No Interspecies Romance was involved, though.
  • Meaningful Name: "Merveille" is French for "marvel", "beauty" or "wonder".
  • Shipper on Deck: To her "son" Red and Elh in the DLC quests, so much.
  • Ship Tease: With Béluga. They are mostly seen together in the main quest and in the DLC quests Béluga gives a field of flowers hologram for Merveille and tries to impress her in an arena fight.
  • Spock Speak: Merveille lapses into this at times.
  • Statuesque Stunner: At 180cm/5'11", Merveille is the second-tallest character with a given height, towering over most other characters.

"À propos…"note

"Three seconds... Pray, to the wind...!"

A solitary and somewhat mysterious Felineko Hunter who has been aiding the Kurvaz and Merveille lately for his own reasons. He and Elh have a history as the last two Paladins, an ancient clan tasked with performing the Rite of Forfeit in order to seal Lares.

  • Badass Cape
  • Facial Markings: Red cheek stripes.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: Late in the first part of the game he completes the ensemble as the phlegmatic.
  • The Gunslinger: Béluga and his mech, Salamander. His outfit even includes gratuitous spurs.
  • Geeky Turn-On: When Merveille is presented with a hologram of a field of flowers, she's just as taken with the technology as she is with the beauty of the image. Béluga likes this aspect of her and finds it one of her most charming points, so would that be a Geeky Turn On Turn On?
  • Huge Girl, Tiny Guy: If he and Merveille ever officially get together; he's only 160cm/5'3"!
  • Interspecies Romance: Teased with Merveille.
  • It's Personal: He hates the Rite of Forfeit because he was forced to sacrifice his big sister to save the world 300 years ago. This is one of the reasons that he is working with the Kurvaz to permanently seal Lares and is so insistent that Elh not perform the Rite with Red.
  • Last of His Kind: He's one of the last two Paladins along with Elh, due to Baion burning their home Ragdoll to the ground.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • "Beluga" is a Russian word that literally translates to "great white", which matches with the color of his fur.
    • His Salamander mecha has a slender black body and "tail", giving it the look of an actual salamander. Despite that, it doesn't have any fire-like aspects to it, considering how many cultures like the ancient Greeks have associated salamanders with fire. His ship is also revealed in the art books to be known as the SMERG. It's unknown if this name is based on anything in particular, but it's possible that it may be an acronym of sorts: the ship is much less spacious than the Asmodeus and is mostly designed to transport the Salamander, so the "SM" or even "SMER" in its name may stand for "Salamander".
  • Mini-Mecha: Pilots one known as the "Salamander//009" (pronounced "Salamander Double-O Nine"). Per the Japanese art books, it was given to the Paladins by the ancient Wolf Tribe, and is made from technology that can no longer be found.
  • Named Weapons: His mecha is named the Salamander.
  • No Social Skills: This only comes out when dealing with strangers, however; he seems perfectly capable of talking to his teammates without trouble, so after the Kurvaz join forces with the heroes, he leaves the jobs involving others to Red and Elh.
  • Panthera Awesome: He's a lynx.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's really over three hundred years old.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: His outfit is black with a red headband and cape. Then it turns out he's really not quite so evil after all and was just working with the Kurvaz to try and permanently seal Lares, rather than having to go through an endless cycle of Rites to stop The End of the World as We Know It. However, given that he had to sacrifice his older sister, the color scheme may just as well represent his Dark and Troubled Past.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He's on the side of the villains and has red eyes. Subverted though as he's even more noble in his goals than Elh, initially.
  • Ship Tease: With Merveille. They are mostly seen together in the main quest and in the DLC quests Béluga gives a field of flowers hologram for Merveille and tries to impress her in an arena fight.
  • Vague Age: Officially listed as "looks about 18". He's really more about 318.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Elh and Béluga admit that their lives feel more meaningful after losing their immortality..
  • "X" Marks the Hero: He sports a large X shaped scar on his face, despite working for the Kurvaz (though his motives for doing do are actually pretty good, and once the Kurvaz do their Heel–Face Turn...).
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Béluga performs one right before your boss fight in Lares.

"Meow-oui!"

"Calua! Gren! Assistance please!"

The leader of the Kurvaz special ops unit. A little bit snotty but no less dangerous, she feels indebted to Bruno and works for him despite his increasingly aggressive orders. She's a Russian Blue.

  • Berserk Button: Opéra hates to be called old.
  • Claustrophobia: In a downloadable quest, it is revealed that she suffers from this.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: She does some nasty stuff, including (for all intents and purposes) holding a mayor's son hostage, but she completely disapproves of bombing the orphanage in Basset.
  • Facial Markings: Red cheek stripes.
  • Fallen Princess: A DLC quest reveals that she was the daughter of a wealthy couple, but they died in an accident ten years ago and the fortune they left their daughter was seized from her; the only things she has left are two of her servants, Gren and Calua. Bruno took her in, raised her, and eventually gave her a job working for him, resulting in her loyal gratitude.
  • Femme Fatalons: Hers are somehow visible through her gloves. A 4koma comic pokes fun at her long nails.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: Painted-On Pants are one thing, but her upper clothing has her coat really hug her... curves, despite the downplayed Navel-Deep Neckline exposing her cleavage.
  • Funetik Aksent: Conspicuously absent. While her official profile claims she speaks with an "imperious drawl", her speech is rendered no differently than any other character.
  • Heel–Face Turn: When Bruno dies at the end of Part 1, she and her subordinates go through this. It happens rather quickly, given that they were just Punch-Clock Villains who were Just Following Orders, with no actual resentment towards Red and his team.
  • High Collar of Doom: It's part of her outfit.
  • Just Following Orders: She really doesn't have much of a grudge against Red at all, even after losing to him, but fights him anyway because he's interfering with Bruno's plans.
  • Lady of War: She's delicate and graceful woman with a lot of firepower behind her via her mech.
  • Meaningful Name: Opéra's mecha is named the "Tiamat", the dragon-like embodiment of the primordial waters in Mesopotamian Mythology, who was responsible for birthing the first generation of gods alongside her consort Apsu. Ages later, Apsu began a war against the younger generations of gods that led to him being slain, with the vengeful Tiamat giving birth to a number of monsters to retaliate against her consort's killers, until she herself was slain by her descendant Marduk, who broke apart her corpse to form the heavens and the earth proper. Aside from how an archetype like "mother goddess" would perfectly match up with Opéra's ego, Opéra's Tiamat is capable of spawning small drones that explode. Some also believe that the story of Marduk's struggle against Tiamat may have influenced stories about Vritra and Azi Dahaka, and the art books clarify that Merveille created the Tiamat based on notes she had on an unbuilt AZI-series robot that was intended for Rose.
  • Mini-Mecha: Pilots one known as the Tiamat-FL ("Tiamat Featherlight").
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: While not as interested in trying to Take Over the World as Bruno, she feels indebted to him for things he did in the past and is willing to go along with his antagonistic ways.
  • Named Weapons: Her mech is named Tiamat.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Just look at her character image on the right.
  • Paper Fan of Doom: Opéra is frequently carrying a fan with the Kurvaz/Kuvasz Guild logo visible when unfolded, though she rarely (if ever) actually strikes anyone with the fan itself.
  • Pun: One of Opéra's voice clips is a fairly subtle combination of "meow" and "oui".
  • Punch-Clock Villain: She shows displeasure at the more ambiguous moral choices she has to make as the leader of the Special Ops. When Bruno dies, she quickly makes a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Purple is her predominant colour, and she is the head the Kurvazs special forces, effectively the Number Two to the guild master, and a competent field operative in her own right. After Bruno's death she becomes the guild mistress herself.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Her suit includes lines of spines along her breasts and hips as well as on her arms.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Opéra is quite tall compared to most of them, being 170cm/5'7".
  • Undying Loyalty: The recipient of Gren and Calua's Undying Loyalty.
  • Villains Out Shopping: One of the special collectible photos you can acquire is a photo of the current Kuvasz special operative unit running away from Bruno after Calua broke his vase, and another shows Opéra hugging her two officers and introducing them to her two girls.

"Je vois…"note

A new villain who rises not long after Bruno's defeat, Baion appears human and has a much simpler goal: instead of trying to Take Over the World, he just wants to kill everyone and cleanse the planet of its defective furry population.

  • A God Am I: Despite viewing himself as a servant of the planet, Baion expresses this sentiment before the final boss, considering how he views the current humanity and their predecessors as being that self-destructive and savage.
Baion: Infidel…! How dare you defile this sacred place?!
Red: What do you think you are? Some sort of god?!
Baion: Yes, when compared to pathetic beasts like you. Experience my divine power!
  • Archnemesis Dad: Towards Red.
  • The Cameo: Makes a brief appearence in The Stinger for Fuga: Melodies of Steel's Golden Ending.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: While Baion does want to use the Titano-Machina to further his goals, that's the only similarity he has with Fool and Bruno. Those two were motivated by greed and wanted to use the power of The Iron Giant and Lares to subjugate all life on the planet. Baion believes his actions to be an extention of the gods and wants to use Lares and Lemures to kill everyone. He also doesn't have (or need) the backings of Sky Pirates or Private Military Contractors for his dirty work, since he and his children are more than capable of leveling an entire city themselves.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Despite everything else, this is ultimately the crux of Baion's actions— he was created to help in piloting Tartaros and activating CODA when the proper time came, only for those plans to be thrown out of whack when he was awakened ahead of schedule due to a malfunction on Juno's end. With no purpose to fulfill, and due to viewing Juno's will as absolute, Baion thus rationalized that the Earth had chosen him to be an avatar of divine punishment upon the Caninu and Felineko.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: To the point of it being his downfall:
    • While Baion is absolutely correct that the Caninu and Felineko are not the "ideal" that the old humanity would've wanted as successors, his own grasp of right-and-wrong seems to based upon how well something succeeds in performing its original "function" as opposed to a proper sense of morality. Per his pre-Final Boss dialogue, Merveille did inform him of what the idea of "evolution" was at one point when they were working together, but it's clear that Baion's rigid mindset prevented him from properly considering it.
    • Until the absolute end of the story, the inherent value of interpersonal connections or relationships seems to be an alien concept to Baion. He's completely apathetic towards Nero and Blanck's deaths at the hands of a brainwashed Red, and instead expresses genuine confusion not only towards how Red is able to resist the Order issued by Tartaros, but also regarding why a hybrid like him would want to defy said Order— not taking into account how carrying out said Order would involve the deaths of everyone Red loves and cares about. Appropriately, it's due to all of Red's allies teaming up that Red himself is able to breach Tartaros' defenses and finally confront Baion.
    • Baion is aware that a team of human scientists were the ones to originally activate the Reset command and terraform the planet. As opposed to how Yurlungur confirms that they did so as a last resort in order to heal the world from the scars caused by the Titano-Machina war, Baion seems to believe that the old humans disposed of themselves after finally realizing how worthless they and their accomplishments were.
Red: Juno are masses of information, right…? So this is what Earth once looked like?
Baion: Correct. A history of failure. The once meaningless creations of human beings…!
      Red: (incensed) Meaningless…?!
Baion: Meaningless. After realizing their worth, they destroyed themselves. After realizing that they were failures, that is.
    • From what little hints we get of it over the course of the game, Baion's ideal "humanity" would likely be one that submitted itself to Juno's will without question— like Baion himself, given his own pride as a servant to Juno— rather than have individual wants and desires and thus the freedom to make mistakes and cause conflict. Red's assertions that even Juno is fallible and that the Caninu and Felineko can instead avoid war through looking out for and helping one other are such unforeseen ideas to Baion that he seems to experience physical pain just trying to wrap his head around them.
Baion: You are no different to… the old race of humanity…
Red: It was Juno. The ancient people obtained such a useful, versatile power… And receiving this from Juno meant that they stopped having to help each other. That's probably it.
Baion: Impossible… you would blame Juno?! No! Humanity was to blame! Juno was right! Is still right! All you need to do is obey the Order… the command from Juno!
Red: Deep down I carry words far more important than any Order! Words from my friends and family! Those are the "orders" that I believe and take pride in!
      Baion: I can't… believe you…! Kuh… guwah…!
  • Evil Laugh: He gets a few.
  • Expy: He's the main protagonist's neglectful father, who's trying to bring about an Apocalypse How with the use of Mecha and a Cosmic Horror from another dimension. And, well, just look at the guy. How'd they get Gendo Ikari to be in this game?
  • Faux Affably Evil: He speaks in a very calm, gentlemanly manner despite how reprehensible he really is. A standout mention goes to him casually describing his destruction of the Paladins' village as "[lighting] a heartwarming little fire".
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • Pride. Baion takes pride in being a perfect being tailor-made to serve Juno, and this combined with his hatred towards both the old humans and the two races that succeeded them has resulted in him gaining a superiority complex, to the point that he outright views himself as a god compared to everyone else. Throughout the story, he's shown to be completely certain that Red will be unable to do anything to hinder his plans to revive Tartaros, even shutting down Blanck's request to hunt down and kill Red before he becomes a problem. At the end of the game, Baion's hubris bites him in the ass when Red succeeds in infiltrating Tartaros, allowing him to confront Baion and best him in combat.
    • Inflexibility. In the eyes of Baion, anything that fails to do what it was supposed to needs to be eradicated, and he's therefore incapable of understanding that people can change for the better or adapt to new situations. It goes both ways in that he's also incapable of understanding that Juno could ever be fallible, rationalizing his early awakening as merely being another act of Juno's will as opposed to an error (as described by Yurlungur), and thinking that the potential for conflict between the Caninu and Felineko can only be solved through the extermination of both races. As a result, he takes a passive approach to dealing with Red and his allies in his plans to revive Tartaros, overlooking how a "failure" like Red is still able to learn from his past experiences or improvise when dealing with unexpected situations. Appropriately, his usual soft-spoken Faux Affably Evil persona gives way to genuine anger the moment he realizes that Red has succeeded in infiltrating Tartaros and cornering him.
  • Foil: To his "son", Red:
    • Both are hybrids that were unable to fulfill their original purposes: Baion was unable to fulfill his purpose of issuing CODA when the time was right, and Red was unable to fulfill his purpose of being able to control Lares or Lemures. However, whereas Baion adamantly held on to his original purpose and spent centuries trying to regain it, Red let go of his purpose and instead decided to live among the Caninu and Felineko.
    • Compared to how Red is an Idiot Hero who usually deals with problems head-on through brute force and improvisation, Baion is a Genius Bruiser whose ego leads him to stick to his own plan without any sort of divergence and take a passive approach to dealing with his adversaries outside of said plan. Red's greatest flaw is his tendency to overlook the consequences of his actions, while Baion's greatest flaw is his tendency to overlook the capabilities of his opponents.
    • True to his name, Red's Adventurer Outfit is predominantly red and blue (with elements of white, black and brown), whereas Baion's scientist outfit is predominantly white and black (with red buttons). Red has orange hair in both his normal and Trance forms, whereas Baion has blue-grey hair.
    • It's clarified by the art books that Red's body has the power to generate electricity and control it while in Trance, in contrast to how Baion and the Bérius are shown to be capable of controlling fire instead.
    • Even their personal mechas play off one another, with the Bérius having the look of a larger and more imposing Dahak or Septentrion. The Bérius has a black-and-red color scheme, directly inverting the predominantly white-and-cyan color scheme of both the Dahak Mk2's Trance appearance and the Septentrion. Whereas the Dahak has hands which can be used to do a variety of things, the Bérius has whip-like arms which can only be used for combat, reflecting both characters' different approaches to changing the world around them: Red's ability to adapt to new situations and goals, and Baion's recourse of tearing down and destroying what doesn't live up to his standards.
  • Gaia's Vengeance: Believes himself to be an instrument of this. After smacking him around a bit, Red tells him that Caninu and Felineko won't degenerate into fighting that tears the planet apart like the humans did before. He relents, and tells Red that, while they get a reprieve this time, he will be watching them.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's quite brawny and he's very dangerous when piloting his mech, but first and foremost Baion is a scientist, with his knowledge and understanding of the precursor technology being his biggest asset.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He is dangerous on a much larger scale than Bruno, but does not actively pursue the protagonists as Bruno did.
  • Human Popsicle: He was in a state of suspended animation for quite some time, though how long is debateable.
  • Kick the Dog: He casually mentions how he destroyed Ragdoll, a Felineko village and the hometown of Elh and Béluga.
  • Kill It with Fire: His Mini-Mecha is specialized in this.
  • Knight Templar: He believes that he was awakened from his slumber early because the divine will of the planet deemed the Caninu and Felineko "failures" that would destroy themselves like humanity did, with him being the one it chose to carry out the task of wiping them off the face of the planet. He's so certain that his actions are righteous that when Elh tells him to his face that Juno (through Yurlungur) doesn't think it's the proper time to activate CODA, he refutes it by stating that his very awakening is proof enough that it is.
  • Knight of Cerebus: While the first half of the game did teeter into dark elements, it was still mostly a light-hearted story. Baion exists to further raise the stakes and show the player that the world is not all sunshine and rainbows by threatening global genocide.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Wears what looks like one.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Baion is revealed to technically be Red's father. No Interspecies Romance with Merveille was involved, though.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • It's theorized by this article that "Baion" is a corruption of the Ancient Greek word phaión (φαιόν), which means "grey"— thus playing off of Nero and Blanck's Colorful Theme Naming in a different way to Red, along with following the Classical Mythology-based naming scheme of Tartaros, Lares and Lemures.
    • "Bérius" is a Latin word that may be a reference to the legend surrounding the French mountain of Dent du Chat ("cat's tooth"), telling of a cat that terrorized travelers around the mountain before being killed by two companions of King Arthur by the names of Bérius and Mélianus, who were rewarded with a field (Chambéry) and mountain (Montmélian) respectively. In-story, Baion uses the powers of the Bérius mech to burn Ragdoll — a village full of cats — to the ground. A less likely possibility is that its name is a reference to the Roman emperor Tiberius, who was also the predecessor and adoptive father to Nero.
  • Mini-Mecha: Pilots one.
  • Named Weapons: His mecha is named BERIUS P-2.
  • Power Makeover: As the final boss, Baion's skin becomes a pale blue and his hair takes a silver color. The art books refer to this as his appearance while "piloting the Bérius" as opposed to a Trance form like Nero and Blanck, however.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He woke up from suspended animation 350 years ago, but it's unclear how long he had already lived before that. The art books state that he was created as an operator for Tartaros at the end of the Third World War.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Bruno's red.
  • So Proud of You: He eventually comes to recognize Red as his son and even tells him he's proud of him for being able to stand up and convince him to give the Caninu and Felineko another chance.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His hair is quite spiky.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Before him, Fool and Bruno were quite devious on their own, but the tone of Tail Concerto made him come across as Laughably Evil on top of being a Dirty Coward who Waffle doesn't fight directly, and Bruno's intimidation wears off when you realize he never really had a motive for committing his crimes. None of this applies to Baion, who's ruthlessness was showcased before the events of the game when he burned Elh's and Beluga's home town of Ragdoll down to a crisp so they wouldn't interfere with his plans, treated the Hybrids he helped create with his own DNA as assets that can be replaced as shown when he tried to have Red killed at a young age along with the escaped Carmine and Rose, and is so dedicated to the Juno that he quickly wrote off the Caninus and Felinekos as failures deemed less than humans and came dangerously close to committing genocide against the world as a result. Needless to say, every scene involving Baion is played as seriously as it can get.
  • Villain Has a Point: His reasoning that Caninu and Felineko are no different from humans of the Old World seems to hold more weight when you take into consideration conflicts like the Berman invasion of Gasco and the Hundred Lilies War, along with the motivations of the Black Cats Gang's antics in Tail Concerto. Where his argument falls apart is in regards to how the sins of the new humanity will lead to the world being destroyed like it was before— as Red points out, the old humans were only able to ruin their world because Juno gave them the power to do so.
  • Villain Respect: It takes getting the crap beaten out of him, but Baion eventually relents and truly refers to Red as his son upon seeing the strength of his defiance.
  • Walking Spoiler: The fact that he replaces Bruno for the game's villain is a pretty big spoiler on its own, to say nothing of his origin and motives.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: He asks Red and Elh if they think humans would find the Caninu and Felineko races to be their "ideal" successors they when he meets them in the Futzu Tower.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: Referred to as "Hooded Man" regarding his cameo in Fuga: Melodies of Steel and its Comedies of Steel supplementary material, with his eyes and body obscured so as to not infringe on Bandai Namco's partial ownership over the Little Tail Bronx franchise.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Despite the more common example of the trope where the Big Bad outright kills the poor minion, Baion merely lets Nero and Blanck do whatever they want after telling them this. Considering his plan involves destroying all sentient life and the fact that Nero and Blanck are heavily implied to lose all their special abilities after completing their duties, this trope is still played fairly straight, albeit through apathy rather than wrath or direct cruelty.

"En avant!"note

One of a pair of hybrids created by Merveille. She believes it is her right to kill and destroy the Caninu and Felineko, along with her brother Blanck.

  • The Battle Didn't Count: With Blanck, the first battle versus them outside their robots. After getting them to half health, they just say they're tired of playing around and just shoot a huge, undodgeable fireball at you.
  • Brother–Sister Team: With Blanck, an evil counterpart to Red and Chocolat. Bonus points for being related to half of the good team.
  • Cain and Abel: She and Blanck are the Cain to Red's Abel.
  • Colourful Theme Naming: Nero means "black" to Blanck’s “white”.
  • Combining Mecha: Zairita and Srvara (Nero and Blanck's mechas respectively) can combine together to make another, more powerful mecha: The Cassandra Cross. Also the Septentrion, combining Red's Dahak, Nero's Zairita, and Blanck's Srvara.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: What Merveille says is wrong with her and her brother, as though they live for the Order and can perfectly perform their one duty of controlling Lares and Lemures, once that duty is fulfilled, they have no reason to exist.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has traits of this to some degree.
Blanck: (regarding a little boy crying out for his mother) Noisy little critter! It's okay if I shut him up, right? Right?
Nero: As if you would take no for an answer.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Nero openly questions Red on why he, as a fellow hybrid like her and Blanck, would sympathize with lesser "beasts" like the Caninu and Felineko. When Red refutes that they're all real people, she brushes it off as a joke.
  • Facial Markings: She's got strange blue lines all over her face.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Nero acts as an evil counterpart to Chocolat in this way, with Nero just barely keeping her borderline-psychotic brother from doing nothing but kill and destroy (though she certainly gets in on it when she's in the mood to,) similar to how Chocolat must keep an eye on Red.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: After turning into Caninu and realizing Baion has no more use for them Merveille offers Nero and Blanck a chance to join the heroes and start a new life for themselves. Before they get the chance however Baion gives Red the Order and he unintentionally kills them.
  • Karmic Death: She makes her first appearance wreaking havoc in the major city of Pharaoh, just because she feels superior to everyone else for being Kemono. After beating the last boss battle with them, the Order happens and she turns into a Caninu herself. Before Red and Merveille can convince them to perform a Heel–Face Turn, the Order forces Red into his human form to destroy all life. She and Blanck become his first (and luckily only) victims.
  • Kick the Dog: Almost literally. We are introduced to her and Blanck casually attacking the kemono people, to the point of threatening the life of a lost little Caninu boy.
  • Killed Off for Real: At first played straight, but then subverted in a DLC quest.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The very first thing she and Blanck do in the story is graze an entire city unprovoked and effortlessly wreck Red and destroy his DAHAK.
  • Living Memory: After Red kills her and Blanck, they make an appearance at the end of the game to help him out, and again appear in DLC quests as fragments of memory inside Red and the Dahak.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Nero is Italian for "black".
    • Her robot is named the Zairita, after the Aži Zairita ("yellow dragon") in Persian Mythology and Zoroastrian folklore. The mythical Aži Zairita was known for eating many men and horses and spewing poison across the land before it was finally killed by the hero Keresaspa— which fits given how Nero and Blanck are both meant to be Baion's Ax-Crazy destroyers. In Nero's case specifically, the front of the Zairita has a yellow color scheme.
  • Mini-Mecha: Pilots one.
  • Named Weapons: Nero's is ZAIRITA-AZ102.
  • Not Quite Dead: In a DLC quest, it is revealed that some memories of Nero and Blanck still live within Red, and Merveille says she will attempt to restore them into physical bodies.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Only slightly better than her brother.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blanck is red and Nero is blue, though their actual color schemes are switched.
  • Superior Successor: To Vermillion, which fueled the rivarly between them.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: When the Order is given and she turns into a Caninu.
  • Tron Lines: All over her face and bodysuit.
  • Walking Spoiler
  • We Can Rule Together: Compared to how Blanck just really wants to kill Red, Nero offers Red to join them as a fellow hybrid. When Red refuses, she intends to kill his friends in order to "sever" him from what holds him back, and nevertheless asserts to him that he won't be able to resist the Order from Tartaros.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: How she justifies their furry killing sprees.
  • You Are Number 6: She is codified as Hybrid No. 2.

One of a pair of hybrids created by Merveille. He believes it is his right to kill and destroy the Caninu and Felineko, along with his sister Nero.

  • Ax-Crazy: Would do nothing but kill and destroy if Nero wasn’t holding him back.
  • The Battle Didn't Count: With Nero, the first battle versus them outside their robots. After getting them to half health, they just say they're tired of playing around and just shoot a huge, undodgeable fireball at you.

  • Expy: Heavily resembles Kaworu. To the point the protagonist, i.e. Red, ends up killing him. His clothes also bear a resemblance to Rei's plugsuit.
  • Facial Markings: He's got strange blue lines on his face.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Acts as an evil counterpart to Red in this way, held in line by Nero like how Red is held in line by Chocolat.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: After turning into Caninu and realizing Baion has no more use for them Merveille offers Nero and Blanck a chance to join the heroes and start a new life for themselves. Before they get the chance however Tartaros gives Red the Order and he kills them while under its command.
  • Karmic Death: He makes his first appearance wreaking havoc in the major city of Pharaoh, just because he feels superior to everyone else for being Kemono. After beating the last boss battle with them, the Order happens and he turn into a Caninu himself. • Meaningful Name:
    • "Blanck" is French for "white".
    • His robot is named the Srvara, after "Aži Sruvara" ("horned dragon"), an alternate name for the Aži Zairita ("yellow dragon") from Persian Mythology and Zoroastrian folklore. Aside from what's already covered in Nero's entry, Blanck's Srvara has the appearance of horns on its head.
  • Mini-Mecha: Pilots one
  • Named Weapons: Blanck's is SRVARA-AZ101.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Even worse than his sister.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blanck is red and Nero is blue, though their actual color schemes are switched.

  • One-Winged Angel: The final boss battle with him.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: When the Order is given and he turns into a Caninu.
  • Tron Lines: All over her face and bodysuit.
  • "Uh-Oh" Eyes: Blanck's are orange, and may fall under either trope depending on which you see them as being closer to.

The Old World

The Peculiar Hologram Girl (MAJOR SPOILERS)

Yurlungur (ユルルングル, Yururunguru)

Voiced by: Mari Todo
Species: Juno (simulated personality AI)
Age: Unknown

A young-looking woman who resides in the Futzu Tower and acts as the mouthpiece for the Hyper Information Convergence Juno.

  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Her feminine humanoid form is assumed purely out of convenience on her behalf, as in truth Yurlungur is a genderless AI-like avatar.
  • Expy: She bears a striking similarity to Aura.
  • Hologram: Because Yurlungur is attached to her chair, she uses these to project her image around while talking to Red in the Futzu Tower.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: She wasn't made by humans, originating from Juno and acting as their mouthpiece to humanity. According to the art book she was initially purely rational and calculating, but after dealing with humans her thought patterns have changed, taking in more of human irrationality and developing a form of compassion to humanity as well as to humans' successor species.
  • I Am Legion: She talks like this when relaying messages from the Hyper Information Convergence Juno, using the phrasing "We are Juno". She can still speak for herself, however.
  • Meaningful Name: "Yurlungur" is the name given by the Yolngu people in northernmost Australia for the "Rainbow Serpent", a common creator deity in aboriginal Australian mythology said to bring the rains and incite the renewal of life— referring to how Yurlungur herself is not only the simulated personality of the first Juno discovered by humanity, but also the one to propose the "Reset" command and restore the planet after nearly all life was destroyed by the Titano-Machina. Appropriately, the section of the Futzu Tower that she and her Juno reside in is called "Mirrirmina", after the watering hole the mythological Yurlungur itself was said to reside in.
  • Walking Spoiler: Not just regarding her role in the story, but regarding the overall lore and history of Little Tail Bronx as a whole.

Airedale

    Alman

Alman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_almanTVT_5741.jpg

One of your first quest givers in Airedale. He disturbs Red quite a bit.

  • Camp Gay: He keeps hitting on Red, wears dresses, and uses copious amounts of cosmetics.
  • Verbal Tic: "Dumpling", referring to Red. It makes him uncomfortable, though eventually he tolerates being called that.

    Barry

Barry

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_barryTVT_8967.jpg

A cameraman in Airdale who takes many pictures of the protagonist and other major characters; one of the first quests has him losing all these pictures and leaving Red to gather them all up (in pieces) over the course of the game.

    Dade and Vanille

Dade and Vanille

Dade is the parts salesman who hangs out around Suzette's shop in Airdale. His ex Vanille lives in her house in Davren.

  • Edible Themenaming: Vanille
  • Coat Full of Contraband: Dade, outside the parts shop on Airedale. Towards the end of the game he offers the best Rare Parts, each costs you 20,000 rings but boosts the relevant stat by 50, more than the other Rare Parts.
  • Stylistic Suck: When Dade gives Red a quest to take a box from his ex Vanille, Red opens the box to find out that it contains a notebook of very sappy and poorly written poetry from Dade. Red and Chocolat get a few laughs out of it, but it somehow wins Vanille over.

    Diamundo

Diamundo

A rival of Suzette's in terms of mecha design and construction. Red is able to participate in minigames that test either his or Suzette's mecha in a race.

    Iggy

Iggy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_iggyTVT_6040.jpg

    Suzette

Suzette

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_suzetteTVT_6702.jpg

The parts shop owner in Airedale. She has a rivalry going with Diamundo, and Red at any time can race with her mecha or Diamundo's in a test flight.

  • Lethal Chef: One of her workers says she's good at "anything aside from cooking food".
  • Mean Boss: Granted, her employees seem to have a habit of slacking, but she's also shown regularly physically abusing them.
  • Mini-Mecha: Pilots one. She likes to customize it.
  • Training from Hell: Implied to be done by Suzette to her workers to get them to fight in robot matches better.
  • Wrench Wench

    Québec

Québec

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_quebecTVT_5671.jpg

An old Hunter who gives Red his first quest to fetch a file on the Hindenburg.

  • BFS: Québec's can become nearly as big as his mech. Maybe Gren took a few tips from him.
  • Cool Old Guy: Red constantly comments on his age, and he's no spring chicken, but he's still got a lot of fight in him.
  • Eyepatch of Power
  • Graceful Loser: There's a duel ship challenge that has you battling him in the arena; although he and Red do a bit of trash-talking beforehand, he's civil and impressed by Red once defeated.
  • Panthera Awesome: A tiger, who's also a force to be reckoned with in the arena.
  • Retired Badass: He's a former Kuvasz special operations member. His role gets more important as the game goes on, but he's always playing a mainly supportive role. You also get to fight him in the arena, and he's no slouch; he makes it to the final round and can easily give you trouble too, if you don't go all-out.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He's not considered a major player in the grand scheme of things, but if he didn't hire Red to infiltrate the Hindenburg, Red wouldn't have taken the medallion kept there, Elh likely would have been captured by the Kurvaz, and Bruno may have been able to summon Lares even quicker with little resistance.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Québec states at one point that he and Bruno used to be good friends.

    Quynne

Quynne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_quynneTVT_4469.jpg

The mysterious man who claims to be constantly watching Red and who gives him the library which unlocks as you play the game. Is a Hybrid who escaped from Baion's facility with Carmine while under the codename, "Crimson".

  • Red Herring: According to "Red Data Children", he agreed to take up Carmine's appearance in order to lead Baion, Vermillion, and Rouge away from him, Rose, and Red.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Follows Red around but doesn't make any flirtatious advances, unlike Alman.

Spinon

    Amélie and Frito

Amélie and Frito

Amélie

Amélie is the granddaughter of the mayor of Spinon. Frito is her best friend.

  • Bratty Half-Pint: In one quest, Amélie tries to "help" with a burglary investigation and ends up involving random pedestrians just because she recently read a mystery story.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Frito (French fries).
  • Kid Detective: She tries to be one in the quest that Flo gives Red to discover who has been stealing from her house. Predictably she just ends up accusing all the wrong people.

    Julie

Julie

A young woman who works at the Star Dogs Café in Spinon. She also delivers pies to other locations when ordered.

Davren Islands

    Casse

Casse

A speedster cheetah who enjoys the Air Robo GP races. Refers to himself as "Lord" Casse.

  • Edible Theme Naming: Cassis is the French for blackcurrant.
  • Panthera Awesome: He's a cheetah Felineko.
  • Victory Is Boring: He's the champion and finds racing has gotten dull lately since everyone is so much slower than him. Naturally, he hopes Red can bring a little excitement back.

Collie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_collieTVT_3580.jpg

The old fisherman of Basset. Red uses his help to fish for the hermit crab with a shrine on it.

  • Fishing Minigame: You have to talk to him to unlock the minigame of fishing for Basset's gigantic hermit crabs.
  • Meaningful Name: A weird example; he's a Caninu whose name is Collie, which is a breed of dog, but he doesn't seem to be that breed.

    Dir. Frassier and the orphans

Dir. Frassier and the orphans

The members of the orphanage in Basset, and their caretaker.

    Galvan and Calvan

  • Dead All Along: The quest giver Galvan, who merely wanted Red to give his son his log and, hence, his last wishes.
  • Generation Xerox: Calvan looks identical to his father Galvan. Red mistakes one for the other at first.
  • Last Request: Shortly before he died Galvan wrote in his journal what he desired his wife to name their child; unfortunately, she never got the journal and named their son Calvan against his wishes. Calvan is able to make up for it by naming their grandson what his father wanted.

Samoyede

    Marianne

Marianne

The young woman standing outside the graveyard in Samoyede. She requests that Red bring her flowers to make a bouquet to place on her boyfriend's grave.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_coconaTVT_153.jpg

A popular Idol Singer in the world of the game. Her song "Sparkling Shooting Star" was included on the OST.

    Palmier

Palmier

The leader of the Pink Peaches Sky Pirates. She's beloved by her crew, who all call her "big sister," and causes a bit of trouble for Red in a quest you take on Pharoah.

  • Distracted by the Sexy: Once you meet her, and especially after defeating her mecha, it seems clear all she cares about is romancing Red, whom she finds handsome.
  • Edible Theme Naming: A palmier is a kind of pastry.
  • Love Redeems: Done... oddly. After she declares the Pink Peaches officially disbanded, she tells all her underlings to become normal girls and live for love instead of evil, but it's not clear if she had this revelation after meeting Red or always intended it. She and the Pink Peaches also certainly show no remorse for their actions.
  • For the Evulz: You catch her trying to blow up an engine in Pharaoh for no other reason than so that the Pink Peaches can go out with a bang.
  • Sky Pirate: One of the many kinds in the game.

Mau

    Cerise Confite, Raisin, and Baum

Cerise Confite, Raisin, and Baum

A trio involving a star-crossed couple. Cerise and her butler Baum have ventured to the holy site Mau looking for Raisin, who is a monk in training there that Cerise is in love with. Cerise hires Red to find Raisin; unbeknownst to Cerise, Baum disapproves of the match and privately discourages Red from finding him.

  • Edible Theme Naming: Raisin, of course. Cerise is also French for cherry.
  • For Your Own Good: Baum has this attitude trying to keep Raisin and Cerise separate, but softens up at the end of the quest.
  • Interspecies Romance: Cerise is a Caninu and Raisin is a Felineko.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Cerise and Raisin, who are separated by class (Cerise is a noble while Raisin is a monk).
  • Tron Lines: Raisin has blue lines over his face and neck, likely because of his training.

    Ozir, Steven, and Chuck

Ozir, Steven, and Chuck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_ozirTVT_9035.jpg
Ozir

Three Felineko living at the Training Grounds in Mau. Ozir is their teacher.

  • Grumpy Old Man: Ozir, in varying shades. Béluga completely rubs him the wrong way, but when Red shows interest in training Ozir is quite pleased.
  • The Rival: Steven has declared Chuck to be his rival and is constantly asking Red for help beating him and keeping tabs on him.
  • Unknown Rival: Chuck seems mostly oblivious to this, as his reaction to completing his training first is more "Whee, look at me! I can float in the air!" than "Ha, take that, loser!"

Sealyham

    Kouglof

Kouglof

The caretaker of the fish tank at Sealyham. Frequently asks Red if he'll become his apprentice.

Duel Ship

    Duel Ship Announcer

Duel Ship Announcer

"Prêts? Partez!"note

The announcer of the duel ship, who narrates your battles and the challenges present in them.

    Quentin

Quentin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solatorobo_quentinTVT_1556.jpg

The master of the Duel Ship who offers Red a chance to compete for money.

  • Eyes Always Shut: His eyes are only little lines, probably to make him look foxlike and untrustworthy.
  • Greed: His only motivation for bringing in new fighters is to make himself more money. Thankfully he's at least smart enough to know that you can't cheat your fighters out of their winnings if you want them to continue working for you.
  • Purple Is Powerful: For a certain modicum of power, anyway; he seems fairly rich, but his actual power outside of the arena is never shown.

    Toffee

Toffee

A spectator on the Duel Ship who appears during Fan Day, coming as a fan of Red after watching his previous duels.

  • Broken Pedestal: Happens when she finds out that Red is ordered around by his 13 year old younger sister. Subverted later when she tries to beat Red in a battle to find closure, only to end up becoming a fangirl again and declaring her love for Red. This does not please her newly acquired male fanbase.
  • Edible Theme Naming: She's named after toffee candy.
  • Fangirl: She becomes Red's when he joins the battle arena.
  • Mini-Mecha: Pilots one.

Characters from supplementary material (SPOILERS!)

Red Data Children novels

    Carmine
Red's former mentor, and the original owner of his airship the Asmodeus, featured in the "Red Data Children" side-stories.
  • Artificial Human: He's a "failed" hybrid from the same experiment that produced Red, but hides this by using a Caninu mask.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Carmine taught Red how to be a hunter and Chocolat how to pilot, and certainly was something of a big brother to them. Probably because he actually is one of their (adoptive) elder siblings.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • "Carmine" refers to a deep, rich variation of red.
    • His robot is called the "Zahhak", which is an alternate name for Aži Dahaka, the namesake for Red's robot.

Alternative Title(s): Solatorobo
