Per Ask The Tropers, this thread will be used to reduce the number of old, poorly written drafts on the Trope Launch Pad. We don't want to discuss on the drafts themselves because that will bump them and mix them with active proposals.
Sandbox for the project: Trope Launch Pad Discard Project
Sandbox for discarded drafts but viable ideas: Trope Idea Salvage Yard
The first sandbox page above contains drafts proposed in the thread that are still pending and drafts that we've decided to leave alone, either with no action or a bump.
The second sandbox page is for awful drafts but viable ideas. According to moderators, badly written but interesting/tropeworthy drafts should remain on the TLP. Rather than allow low-effort drafts to clog TLP, though, the salvage yard was opened to keep just the ideas behind them, in one place.
On this thread, we will mention which drafts we think are unworkable, add enough bombs, and discard (nuke) them. Discarding requires at least 5 bombs. Among the features of "unworkable" drafts:
- There have been no edits for a very long time, or at all
- The draft is low-effort, containing atrocious spelling and grammar and/or little to no examples, e.g. NEVER saw THAT coming (!), Nut-Chuks
- The draft was seemingly created so the sponsor could complain
- The topic is People Sit on Chairs, Too Rare to Trope, a search query created by mistake, etc. and therefore not tropeworthy
- The topic is already sufficiently covered by one or more tropes or is a duplicate of a better-written TLP draft
- The draft is problematic in other ways, such being closely tied to a page that has been historically problematic, e.g. Fetish Fuel, Complete Monster
- There's no discussion currently occurring in the comments to improve the proposal
If we decide to discard a draft after discussion via this thread, whoever does so must provide the discard reason in the comment section of the draft, for transparency's sake. Those looking at the discards section won't think it was nuked for no reason.
Also, check out the sister project, Trope Adoption Drive, where good drafts put Up for Grabs or abandoned can be grabbed, given a bit more improvement, and launched.

Yes, I got the two threads mixed up.
Good and Evil Evens the Odds: Abandoned stub with one valid example, plus saying "the two characters are evenly matched" isn't really much of a trope. Especially when the dynamics are attributed to evil being a cheater, or Honor Before Reason / inverted Good Is Not Soft on the hero's part.
Mundane powers translate This is basically Like a Duck Takes to Water combined with Trapped in Another World. Also, a One-Line Wonder with only one valid example...and it's a barely passable inversion.
Own Responsibility Realization: Largely covered by a combination of Late to the Realization and Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!.
Unnecessary Precision "Specific numbers are used when not strictly necessary." Not exactly tropeworthy unless it's lampshaded or something.
Proud Warrior Number Two Guy/Klingon Klone Another. God. Damned. Expy. Trope. This time it's Worf from Star Trek. Ludicrously specific to Worf/Klingons down to physical characteristics. At least it has examples, I guess, even if the description is pretty terrible.
Rap Feud: Partly covered by The Diss Track and the other part is attempting to trope real-life gossip. Most of the examples are ZC Es.
Montage Monologue "Montage while a character narrates over it." Yeah, and? Distinction without a difference.
Low foot camera angle Feet-First Introduction covers a lot of this, and an older version of this trope was de-troped for being, among other things, creepy.
Your subconscious is out to get you If someone can renamed this prove this distinct from Fighting from the Inside, then it's a decent idea (even if the author stupidly conflates "subconscious" and "alternate personality".
Curse broken at the wrong time A stub draft with no on-draft examples, the examples in the thread point to slight variations on Always Need What You Gave Up more than anything else.
Signature Look Way too non-specific and broad to be useful.
Everything is Elastic One-line wonder with one example, no real discussion, covered by Toon Physics, Artistic License – Physics, Rule of Funny.
Credits Always Spoil Spoiler Opening, or at least a non-distinct variation.
Hexagons are edgier "Puzzle game has hexagonal pieces." Description isn't great — it says what the trope is but doesn't give meaning other than "hexagons are more fun" — and all of the examples are ZC Es. How does this have 5 hats?
Anime Death This draft could be discarded for the quality of its writing alone, but it's also unformatted and a confused mess in general. Never edited.
Santa Christ The laconic and title are inconsistent with what the trope is actually about. The trope here is not Santa being a metaphor for Christ; it's about works showing or pointing out parallels between the two. The idea itself is usable if anyone can find the examples, but the description is a poorly written stub and the only two valid examples are about praying to Santa. We could Yard it.
Apply Directly to the Forehead "Character punches or is punched in the face." Srsly?
Token Petting Zoo Person Token Nonhuman but more specific. Not splitworthy and poorly written. Has five hats for god knows what reason.
X, The X of Y It's either a very specific form of Title Drop, or a turn of phrase that isn't strictly a Stock Phrase, but isn't a trope either.
No True Monster: Covered by Hypocrite.
Edited by HeavyMetalHermitCrab on Sep 19th 2020 at 3:32:02 AM
I have discarded Everything is Elactic, Montage Monologue, Mundane Abilities Translate, and Curse Broken at the Wrong Time.
Bombed the rest of drafts, leaving many four-bombers.
Edited by ElBuenCuate on Sep 19th 2020 at 9:29:26 AM
These are mostly done, I'll get a couple;
-
Dangerous Disguise: The concept itself may be salvagable, but it's a stub w/o any activity at all. I'd suggest yarding this.Yarded. -
EveryoneHasADoppelganger: Redundant to Alternate Universe. -
All Volcanoes are Composite: Not only do you need an understanding of volcanoes to understand this trope, it's probably chairs too. - Show Time Equals Real Time: This seems to be redundant to Comic-Book Time.
- Polite Chatter Exit: Exampless page, might be redundant to Casual Danger Dialog.
- Title Sequence Whiplash: Mood Whiplash, but with show openings.
- For Them It Is Progress: Stub, confusing mess. I don't know what this proposal is, exactly.
- Environmental Autopsy: Might be redundant to This Way to Certain Death.
- Second Place Gets The First Laugh: Jokes about being the second best at something. Could be salvageable.
- Inexplicably Super Psychopath: Seems like just a form of Establishing Character Moment.
-
Naughtyness makes kids cry: Redundant to Even the Dog Is Ashamed. Also a stub with only 1 example. - Instrument Incongruity: This could be salvagable, but as is it's a stub.
Edited by Kappaclystica on Oct 2nd 2020 at 11:13:29 AM
"For Them It Is Progress" seems to be "Jerk becomes a little less of a jerk, but is still basically a jerk". It's still Character Development, but is it specific enough? I dunno.
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576^ It would be a form of Character Development if the "progress" were permanent in some way, but the draft doesn't really specify that. Even if it did, that translates to "This, but slightly less this", which isn't split-worthy on its own.
The draft that exists seems to be "Jerkass Pets The Dog" or "Out-of-Character Moment" more than anything else.
"For Them It Is Progress" reminds me of Wants a Prize for Basic Decency. Is it the same thing?
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.^ Not really — Wants a Prize for Basic Decency isn't so much about "making progress" in one's behavior so much as wanting, well, excessive praise, reward, or acknowledgement for behaving like a decent human being.
This draft makes no mention of the Jerkass wanting rewards; it's others who consider his moment of "slightly less Jerkass" highly significant.
We're not done with my previous list, but I figure we should get some more in there:
-
For Me It Was A Week: Concept is likely salvagable, but the draft itself is a stub.Yarded. -
An Afterlife By Any Other Name: The names of the afterlife is not a trope. -
Descended From Vikings: Redundant to Heroic Lineage. -
New Wave Soft Sci Fi: Could be made into a subtrope of Science Fiction, but as is the draft is an unworkable stub. (Yet somehow it has 2 hats?)Yarded. - Lives On In Memory: Seems to be redundant to Legend Fades to Myth.
-
The Firstborn Son: Birth order is not a trope. -
Ode To The Stage: The trope might be salvageable if it isn't redundant to anything, which isn't at a glance at Music Tropes. The draft is way too bad, though.Yarded. -
Scared For You: Again, this could be workable, but the draft isn't.Yarded. -
Hurricane of Rhymes: As is, redundant to Painful Rhyme. -
Punishing the Snitch: Redundant to Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves. Or at least, that's what I can tell from the laconic; the draft literally doesn't have a description! -
Never a Negative Opinion: Fairly confident this is redundant to something, but even if it isn't the draft is a stub and complaining about Kid Coms. -
Eleventh Hour: Just The Climax. -
Villain With A Strange Goal: Orange And Blue Morality. -
There is Another MacGuffin: The Same, but More Specific to There Is Another. -
Action Pacifist: Even if the idea is salvagable, the page is laughably poor.Yarded. -
Wrong Number Message: Too broad as to be nontropable currently. The idea of "Funny error message" could work, though.

~Troper3, I see you discard bumping drafts. Why not help with the project? We discard drafts here but in a non-spammy way, by posting links and letting consensus work it's magic.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSorry about that. I didn’t know that you guys had a certain way of discarding drafts.
And so, I shall resurrect this thread.
-
Allegorical Squad: Zero-effort. -
Belated Hint is pure complaining. -
Clingy Harpoon: Zero-effort. - Connecting Cave Complex is "Underground Level, but you have to traverse it to get to a particular area".
-
First Level Showcase is a low-effort draft with no examples, and it feels kind of complainy. - Flashback Series is Flashback B-Plot.
-
Flat Floored Caves is a one-line wonder. - "It's Me!!" Attack: Zero-effort, immediately abandoned.
- Multiplayer Removal is an exampleless stub.
- Not right. Necessary. has an awful name, a one-sentence description, and a single example.
- Office Paper Explosion is a one-line wonder.
-
The Omni-Precinct is an exampleless stub. - Protagonist Gulf: Only two zero-context examples, and I'm not even sure that this is tropeworthy.
-
Real Man is Men Are Tough. -
Weakest of the Strong is Those Were Only Their Scouts.
Edited by Serac on Sep 28th 2020 at 5:41:12 AM
From my previous post, Family-Free Peace and In Their Eyes are both at 4 bombs.
-
All Philosophy Is Existentialism: As discussed in the comments section, none of the proposed examples are about philosophy at all. -
Do The Silly Dance!: Abandoned stub, very similar to Accidental Dance Craze. -
Easily-Cleared Mind: Abandoned stub with good examples in the comments. Discard and Yard.Yarded. -
Epic Faint: Abandoned stub, covered by the "Emotional Faint" category of Fainting. - "Finnegans Wake" Ending: 100% a thing; 0% a viable draft. Discard and Yard.
-
Gangster Snapping: This draft has no description and no examples. Impressive. -
Heel Acceptance: Abandoned stub, no examples. -
Implausible Jetpack: Abandoned stub, only zero-context examples, and covered by the description of Jet Pack. -
Join the (Sex) Club: Abandoned stub, covered by Making Love in All the Wrong Places. -
Keep On Killing: Abandoned stub, no in-draft examples. -
Killjoy: The Killjoy. -
Narrator Named: Abandoned stub, covered by Wildlife Commentary Spoof. -
Same Flow, Different Show: One-line wonder. -
Something Spacey This Way Comes: Abandoned stub with no in-draft examples, but the examples in the comments suggest this is worth Yarding.Yarded. -
Straw and Tinder: Abandoned stub, no examples. -
Thematic Characters: The draft is an unworkable mess, but I get what OP was trying to say - there are certain archetypes in fiction, usually portrayed as "cool" and based on historical or fantastical "factions" or "fighters": ninjas, pirates, aliens, robots, cowboys, and so on. It's why we have Pirates vs. Ninjas, Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot, and the board game Smash Up. But for the life of me I'm not sure how one would phrase it as a trope. -
Varicose Veins Of Power: Abandoned stub, seems similar to Tainted Veins. - When Good Dials Go Bad: Abandoned stub. Might be Yardable?
Edited by MonaNaito on Oct 5th 2020 at 10:56:14 AM
Appeal To Unfairness: Appeal to Inherent Nature but specifically for life being unfair.
Too Good To Frame: This is just confusing.
Jock Mocking: Abandoned stub.

Casually CORPSE The entire trope hinges on the assumption that there’s something inherently shocking or distasteful about using the word “corpse” to refer to a dead body…when that’s exactly what it means. Yeah, this isn’t a thing.
Disappointing Reaction This could be an index of tropes, but this is way too broad to be a trope by itself. The only suggested examples are covered by Chirping Crickets.
Environmental Boss Stub with no examples, seems to be partly covered by other tropes.
Single Major University “A school is famous for a specific field IRL, so any character who attended that college in fiction will be from that field.” It’s kind of chairs in the sense that a character that’s supposed to be brilliant likely would attend a high-level school in their field, and the examples laughably obvious or on-the-nose (e.g. Julliard for music/drama/dance when ‘’that’s all the school teaches — it’s a performing arts college’’.
Hyperactive gabby cute little brother type Failed attempt at TRS splitting Keet. (And, per a mod comment in the other draft, apparently a rogue attempt as the split never achieved consensus.
Cute Perky Feminine Guy The other failed/illegitimate attempt to split Keet. Again, six years abandoned.
Press asking about the charges “People act exactly how you’d expect them to act” + Media Scrum.
them them them not me me me This is a turn of phrase, not a trope.
PianOh Crap! Points for the name, but there’s really nothing here besides “piano plays during dramatic moment.” Covered by Sting, Scare Chord, others.
VALVe Man Effect One line wonder covered entirely by Ominous Visual Glitch.
The Insult Master Covered by Troll, Jerkass, Insult Comic, The Heckler, others. Also a one-line wonder.
Stuff Beans up your nose Shmuck Bait, Forbidden Fruit, Do Not Do This Cool Thing, Briar Patching, Reverse Psychology, likely others.
Thank the Academy Stock phrase.
Chuck’s Challenge Work page that’s already covered on Chip's Challenge, to which it’s a Spiritual Sequel.
Graphics Physics Dissonance Another attempt to trope something that’s really just down to hardware and programming limitations.

So on the Trope Idea Salvage Yard, there's indication that if we want to make an In-Universe counterpart to an Audience Reaction, we don't have to put it through TRS (e.g. how Once Done, Never Forgotten was split from Never Live It Down)?
Rock'n'roll never dies!Yeah, it's not really necessary.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness- Time Doesn't Affect Gravity already has 3 bombs and is covered by Artistic License – Physics.
- Puzzle Scenario: I'm not even sure what this is about. Is it just heroes solving puzzles? I'm not sure it's tropeworthy, but if it is it could use a restart. The examples don't help either.
- NPC Shove is just "NPC can walk in the player's path".
All I have time for right now. Will do more later.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessMore!
- Simulated Musical Instrument is "Synths Exist". It also has no examples.
- Breakaway Prop is a poor draft, but might be yardable- it's a Live-Action equivalent to Conspicuously Light Patch.
- Stigmata Of Coolness: A character has a mark that should be negative but just makes them seem badass. The idea is workable but there's only two examples on the draft, the pitched examples don't seem to qualify, and it was abandoned. Yard worthy, but not keepable as-is.
- Arrogant Immigrant is a draft full of redlinks and ZCEs, and I'm worried this would be flame-baity nowadays that Immigration is a hotbutton topic. Rude Foreigner might be viable if we strip the "immigrant" part.
- Mystery to the viewers I thought was just Riddle for the Ages, but it seems to just be..."fans want to know the answer to something. The work usually tells them eventually." Possibly yardworthy as an Audience Reaction.
- Heroes Learn Fast is an exampleless stub covered by other things.
- Rave Party Ending seems like Dance Party Ending, but for Music Videos.
^^ - NPC Shove is a set of Anti-Frustration Features, to stop random walks from blocking paths though, so it is a trope?
Each type is a bit different.
Patterned Walking is like super downplayed NPC Schedules...

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Is it worth it's own page? IDK, we can Salvage Yard it if you think it's viable.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWin Lose or Draw 2014 Work page with zero effort.
Home Depot Surgery The name brings Meat Grinder Surgery to mind, but it's really just Improvised Weapon Played for Horror. Can't seem to decide if it's exclusively about surgery or just murder in general.
Put Your Hands In The Air Stock phrase.
Gay or European Ambiguously Gay but ridiculously specific.
Vocalized Video Game Soundtrack Yet another "VGM has vocals" draft.
Rainbow Eyes for Everyone Technicolor Eyes.
Common Sense This isn't a tropable concept, if only for the reasons Bisected 8 gives in the comments. Also, I'm pretty sure TV Tropes isn't a general-use dictionary or encyclopedia, despite what some Useful Notes writers seem to think.
Face Race Rage Breaking Point. The inscrutable title is the only noteworthy part.
Linear Gameplay Justified As Manipulation Railroading, but justified in-universe. Not worth splitting, and covered by Video Games and Fate.
Impossibly Cool Technique Covered by Awesome, yet Impractical AND Useless Useful Spell.
I Don't Want TO Hear It Stock phrase, at least partly covered by No Listening Skills.
Putting Pants on the Same Way "Important people are people just like us." O RLY?
Somebody Do Something Stock phrase covered by Bystander Syndrome and Holding Out for a Hero. Also, good GOD that draft.
Edited by HeavyMetalHermitCrab on Oct 5th 2020 at 8:18:03 AM
Yard "NPC Shove" as being a broad Super-concept, please.
"Puzzle Scenario" is like, "This guy is blocking all my attacks! How is he doing that? I need to solve that."
Instead of "This guy is blocking all my attacks! But he's tiring out, and I'm not."
Like Puzzle Boss, but not a Video Game. ... Which already has non Video Game examples... Hmm.

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576"Time Doesn't Affect Gravity" sounds yardable. It needs more examples or, if it is really an Omnipresent Trope as suggested by some users, aversions. It doesn't match any of the folders in Artistic License – Physics.

I'm back!Void of Despair has, for some reason, been silently bumped after 9 years of inactivity.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.
I suspect that Heavy Metal Hermit Crab just accidentally posted in the adoption drive instead of here.
If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.
