Per Ask The Tropers, this thread will be used to reduce the number of old, poorly written drafts on the Trope Launch Pad. We don't want to discuss on the drafts themselves because that will bump them and mix them with active proposals.
Sandbox for the project: Trope Launch Pad Discard Project
Sandbox for discarded drafts but viable ideas: Trope Idea Salvage Yard
The first sandbox page above contains drafts proposed in the thread that are still pending and drafts that we've decided to leave alone, either with no action or a bump.
The second sandbox page is for awful drafts but viable ideas. According to moderators, badly written but interesting/tropeworthy drafts should remain on the TLP. Rather than allow low-effort drafts to clog TLP, though, the salvage yard was opened to keep just the ideas behind them, in one place.
On this thread, we will mention which drafts we think are unworkable, add enough bombs, and discard (nuke) them. Discarding requires at least 5 bombs. Among the features of "unworkable" drafts:
- There have been no edits for a very long time, or at all
- The draft is low-effort, containing atrocious spelling and grammar and/or little to no examples, e.g. NEVER saw THAT coming (!), Nut-Chuks
- The draft was seemingly created so the sponsor could complain
- The topic is People Sit on Chairs, Too Rare to Trope, a search query created by mistake, etc. and therefore not tropeworthy
- The topic is already sufficiently covered by one or more tropes or is a duplicate of a better-written TLP draft
- The draft is problematic in other ways, such being closely tied to a page that has been historically problematic, e.g. Fetish Fuel, Complete Monster
- There's no discussion currently occurring in the comments to improve the proposal
If we decide to discard a draft after discussion via this thread, whoever does so must provide the discard reason in the comment section of the draft, for transparency's sake. Those looking at the discards section won't think it was nuked for no reason.
Also, check out the sister project, Trope Adoption Drive, where good drafts put Up for Grabs or abandoned can be grabbed, given a bit more improvement, and launched.

Bombed the following:

Wellie Wishers— Work page. -

Thus the Remnants Fought Here— Work page. -
Big Bad Brat— This is Big Bad + Spoiled Brat. -
Partial Translation Convention— Translation Convention, but more limited? Not distinct enough. -
Prison Bible— no examples and minimal description, probably Too Rare To Trope with potential for People Sit On Chairs examples. -
Distracted Cruiser Crash— covered by Watch Out for That Tree!. -
Teleportation Through Hell— this is Hyperspace Is a Scary Place. -
Wing Sleeves— Too Rare To Trope. -
Supernatural Greeneyed Redhead— Significant Green-Eyed Redhead, but supernatural. -
Oversoul (A Fanfic)— a fanfic. -
Kirby: Right Back at Ya!— a fanfic. -
Fanfiction Novel— covered by Doorstopper -
Torchbearer— fanfic.

Huh, those are so recent I've actually commented on some of them. Nuked Wing Sleeves, Big Bad Brat, and Teleportation Through Hell.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThere are some works pages that look a step away from publication, but I don't care / am not familiar with the works in question to check the entries and launch them myself.
Edited by mahidevrans on Mar 9th 2019 at 4:03:03 AM
A step away from publication doesn't matter when the works now exist. Bombing them seems the only way to clear those drafts out of the TLP.
Mod opinion on badly written but interesting/tropeworthy drafts is to let them stay at TLP.
Edited by Tabs on Mar 9th 2019 at 1:42:34 AM
Oh right, I had forgotten that works pages can't actually be launch through TLP due to the namespace issue.
In that case, bombed.
I asked in ATT what mod opinion is on dealing with the ones that seem valid. They weighed in on the side of just leaving them be, so I guess let's go with that to be safe.
The crap ones will keep us busy for a long, long time anyway.
EDIT: DAMMIT TABS!
Edited by DracMonster on Mar 9th 2019 at 7:13:03 AM
Nuked a good few of them.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Funny, there's already a thread doing something like this.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Speaking of that thread, I think the YKTTW Salvage List is broken.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99ยขLooks broken to me too.
- Unrelated Title is already covered by Never Trust a Title and Trivial Title.
- Merchandise Dissonance looks like an unnecessary subtrope of Misaimed Marketing. The difference is that this one requires a formerly-kid-friendly franchise whose merch is still marketed to kids, not just any non-kid-friendly franchise with kid-friendly merch (quite a few of the examples don't even meet this requirement). It has enough bombs to get nuked, but I wanted a second opinion first.
- Overrate backlash: One sentence, inactive since 2016, and seems to overlap with existing tropes.
- Battle of wish-wash: Talking the Monster to Death and Swiper, No Swiping! with more complaining.
- I'm Relaxing Here!: More specific version of Interrupted Bath.
- Reasonable in Hindsight: The same as Not So Crazy Anymore.
Edit: Added examples and the part about the YKTTW Salvage being broken.
Edited by MathsAngelicVersion on Mar 9th 2019 at 4:04:49 PM
Delete Merchandise Dissonance.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Whoops-a-do. I didn't find that one because I searched "TLP". Well. That thread's backlog cleanup is partly about improving the promising drafts while we're solely about discarding. From the look of the other other thread, focusing on the salvaging is Captain Obvious speaking and also too much to ask.

Also this thread is more up-to-date anyway, since that one was made back when it was still the YKTTW and we move a lot faster here. Let's not worry about the other thread.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessUseful Notes / Translation: Useful Notes attempt not updated after the day of creation.
Whoops I Said Something Racist (Don't Mention The War): A confusing mess of a "trope" with a bad title and no examples.
Normal food always tastes great: Holy Deja Vu Batman, didn't one of us mention this before? I can't find anything like it in our discard list, though...
Friendly fireproof requirement: Stub draft with no edits since creation. According to one troper, it apparently "exists". Anyone want to confirm if we do have this one?
Jack (Jack Antonucci): A stub draft apparently intended to be a work page. and yes, we have it.
Unseen Storybook Narrator: Stub attempt at duplicating Storybook Opening.
Destroying IS conquering: Poorly formatted stub draft with 2 hats for some reason.
De/DerHerostrat: Interesting, this is an attempt at making a trope IN GERMAN!!!!. It's apparently Trope Namer Syndrome, tho...
No History Like Earth History: I'm with DAN 004 here, it seems like Chairs.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOkay, then.

Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Discarded Partial Translation Convention, Overrate backlash, I'm Relaxing Here!, Whoops I Said Something Racist (Don't Mention The War), Friendly fireproof requirement, Destroying IS Conquering
I did mention Normal food always tastes great on page 1. It didn't have enough bombs for a while, but a little bump did the trick.
Friendly fireproof requirement is Would Not Shoot a Civilian (subtrope of Never Hurt an Innocent). Perhaps that's what the commenter meant. Perhaps not.
Destroying IS Conquering is Omnicidal Maniac and Generic Doomsday Villain.
De/DerHerostrat: I think all those "Compare" tropes in paragraph 3 cover this. And this draft, being in German, cannot be TLP-launched. Bombed.
No History Like Earth History is not only chairs but is pretty much Most Writers Are Human applied to history.
Out of curiosity, I dug into "I'm Relaxing Here!" The sponsor created a draft titled Interrupted Bath Comedic while Interrupted Bath was on the TLP/YKTTW and went so far as to add Interrupted Bath Comedic to Bathing Tropes minutes later. They then renamed it Interrupted Bath. The first comment saying that the working title and laconic should be swapped occurred after the sponsor's final edit to the draft.
Creative recycling: Redundant with Recycled Script. Tropes Are Flexible applies here.We Weren't Before But We Sure As Hell Are Now: Name and laconic do nothing to describe the trope. Two examples, one of which is "beautifully averted".- Crit Or Miss Attack: Crit or miss, I guess they never miss, huh? This might be useful.

Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!- Banished: Unnecessary — we have The Exile. See also Persona Non Grata and You Can't Go Home Again.
- Publicly available phone number: Unnecessary subtrope of Everybody Knew Already.
- Jor-El Is A Jerk: Essentially I Warned You. Bonus points for Trope-Namer Syndrome and no examples.
- Blaming the Translator: Not sure if this should be a trope — it sounds like a rare variation of Misblamed, or a subversion of Translation with an Agenda.
- Dante is infernal: Covered by Shout-Out and Meaningful Name. Probably not common enough to deserve its own trope.
- Last Minute Ending Choice: The same as Last-Second Ending Choice.
- Mario Kidnaps Peach: The same as Ron the Death Eater.
- Verbal Kint Fabrication: Line-of-Sight Name.
- Can't go back now: I've Come Too Far, Sunk Cost Fallacy
- Forbidden Trope: Executive Veto. (Edit: Something like Forbidden Trope might be useful as an inversion of Enforced Trope if it's common enough to be tropable. If we go with that, it'll probably be a subtrope (sub-trivia item?) of Executive Veto, which covers any element vetoed by executives. Maybe leave this alone for now.)
Edited by MathsAngelicVersion on Mar 9th 2019 at 1:40:19 PM
Forbidden Trope does sound like a better name for inversions of Enforced Trope, admittedly.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! Now that you mention it, we could use Forbidden Trope as the opposite as Enforced Trope, and have Executive Veto cover any element prohibited by the executives.

-
Delayed Seasons— Chairs. - Unusual Battle Location — we have a whole index for it: Fighting in All the Wrong Places Index.
- Stock Bad Luck Events — Stub.
- Really Close Air Support — Chairs. Otherwise falls under Artistic License โ Military.
- Snipers Are Gunslingers — Multi-Ranged Master.
-
Shocked Stoic— Not So Stoic. -
Pre-Mortem Flashback— Death by Flashback. - Getting Marxed — Unwitting Pawn. Also Trope Namer Syndrome, although it has nothing to do with Marxism. Or the Marx Brothers.
-
He/She Won't Wake Up— Please Wake Up. - No One Takes Baths — Law of Conservation of Detail in action. No one poops either. Otherwise covered in part by Beauty Is Never Tarnished.
- Chick In a Bucket — What Happened to the Mouse?.
-
Hairball Attack— plagiarism and self-promotion! - Plot Artifact — Orphaned Reference.
- Let me go back and explain from the beginning — In Medias Res + How We Got Here.
- No Grenades — overly specific to be YMMV, relies too much on viewer inference to be a trope.
- Stubborn Fish Out of Water — Tropes Are Flexible.
- Face Carving — Chairs.
- White is Blue — Draft is Confusing.
- Muscle Development — covered by Heroic Build, Took a Level in Badass, and more broadly Character Development.
-
Tears From Treachery— Chairs. -
Vegas Hi— Chairs, or at least a chairs magnet. - X Doesn't Fall Out of the Sky — Retroactive Wish with a splash of Cue the Flying Pigs. No New Stock Phrases.
-
Inherently Immune— The Immune. -
I Call It Trope— things in fiction having the same names as tropes on the wiki, even if there's no relation. I think. - Japanese Duel — Single-Stroke Battle.
-
ChildVoiceActor— a cursory glance reveals this is probably not as uncommon as OP thinks. - The Long Shot — The Oner.
-
Black Kung-Fu Fan— Too Rare To Trope, crap draft. -
Songs of Murder and Mayhem— Murder Ballad.
this needs another bomb before we can nuke it.

There's a good number of...questionable drafts around the 200's. I genuinely can't decide what to make of these, so I'll bring them up here to see if the vote is "discard" or "leave". Each of them is conflicting me for a different reason.
Realism Induced Leather Pants: Is this a necessary audience reaction? Is it complaint bait? Draco in Leather Pants but more?
Everyone's An Open Book: Chairs? Complaining? Is it even true?
Deus Ex Aquam: Too rare? It says it's common in Bollywood...
These we can just discard:
Geek Learns To Fight: Boxing Lesson, and Took a Level in Badass.
Real Bargian Huh: Allegedly Free Game, Bribing Your Way to Victory, etc.
And Then There's Vegeta: Poorly written stub draft with a bad title, likely already covered
Small Person, Big Event: Small Role, Big Impact
Micromanagement Junkie: Maybe a trope here, but the title and examples are awful.
Misfortune Not Malice: Stub draft with a lot of overlap to Cat Scare.
Edited by WarJay77 on Mar 9th 2019 at 9:40:33 AM
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness"Songs of Murder and Mayhem" is actually a pretty good title, tbh.
I'm surprised we don't have a trope like Crit Or Miss Attack yet.

Jawbreakers on sale for 99ยขWow! Who knew TV existed in the 200's? :)
The Novel: Novel exists. Would anyone mind me moving the description of the draft to the pretty-insubstantial Novel page?
The Fellowship: This is Multinational Team.
Like The Source Culture Unless Noted: Do you think this is Inexplicable Cultural Ties under a different name?
OpinionsAreNotFacts: This is unnecessary. We're much better at zapping YMMV examples than we were 7 years ago, and other Administrivia pages have this covered, e.g. What Goes Where on the Wiki. Also, the "Subjetive" and "Objetive" are making me squirm.
Slaughter Is A Free Action: This is someone's Establishing Character Moment as being evil. (Also, I'm not touching anything related to Complete Monster with a ten-foot pole.)
Literal Misuse: I despise when I see "literally" used figuratively as well, but the concept is covered under "Bogus intensifiers" on Word Cruft.
Superman Is Within All of Us: Low-effort draft which I think is covered by Charles Atlas Superpower and/or 90% of Your Brain. Not sure because the draft is so stubby.
TV Schedule Forencics Theory: Spoiled by the Format has this. Stub article with no examples.
Purple Is Pink on Steroids: Purple Is Powerful, Graceful Ladies Like Purple.
Peer Pressure Pucker: Not a Date. Stub draft with no examples.
Fetishistic Creator: Ew. We have Author Appeal. We don't need this.
The Speechless Speaks: Suddenly Voiced.
Retired Comic Strip Character: The Artifact, except with comic strips.
Dragoon Drop: Sword Plant, see paragraph 2.
Pride Gloateth Before A Fall: Pride Before a Fall should cover this? Gloating is included in pride, so I don't see how this is much different.
Comalmost: This is Impairment Shot.
Pragmatic Heroism: Pragmatic Hero.
Ominous Stormy Cloud / Storm Cloud Of Doom: A Storm Is Coming.
Fish Ears: Chairs. Edit: Reading the comments, I still don't see how these are meaningful.
Not So "Not So Bad After All" After All: There must be character tropes that cover this already. Friendly Enemy, too.
Beware The Smart Ones: Badass Bookworm.
It's Just The Winds: Stub, I think this is Cat Scare except the cat's your traveling companion.
Unexpected As Expected: Stub, not enough content to separate from Mandatory Twist Ending.
Twenty Sided Tales: Covered by Campaign Comic, as sponsor admits.
Posterior Pain Propulsion: Pain-Powered Leap.
available for a limited time only: Description suggests this is a video game trope; it's covered by Permanently Missable Content. Otherwise, it's people sit on chairs.
Downgrade By Prequel: Bag of Spilling.
Wake Up Line: Waking Non Sequitur.
Losing Shoes On Your Feet: Last Place You Look.
Spoliing the surprise: With Catlike Tread, Leeroy Jenkins.
Lame Comeback Answer: Lame Comeback.
He's Like the Nicest Guy Ever: Aside from terrible title, we already have this: Irrational Hatred.
Snapped To Survive: Crazy Sane.
Mr. Wimp With the Cool Sword: Stub article where the one example is a complaint.
PersonallyPreferedVersion: Oh, dear, no. How would we handle writing examples?
Fake Surprise: Mock Surprise Reaction.
seethrough hat: Can we auto-nuke low-effort stubs that the sponsor immediately puts up for grabs. Well okay, no, per mods. But this needs a ton of work to mean something.
Anachronistic Immortal: Immortal Immaturity.
Revenge Of The Butt Monkey: As sponsor admits, this is covered by Who's Laughing Now?.
Secret Identity Theft: This is Costume Copycat.
It's all in the Suit: Clothes Make the Superman.
Fandom Specific Plot section: Absolutely not. Edit: Wait a sec, this sort of thing doesn't even belong on the TLP. It'd be a project thread (which would be turned down because fan works don't belong on a work page).
Edited by Tabs on Mar 12th 2019 at 8:02:44 AM
I've actually started reading the really old ATT threads, and it honestly fascinates me. Glad things have changed around here. Drafts like that "Real men are meaty" abomination wouldn't last five minutes in the TLP today...which is as it should be, if you ask me.
