Useful Tips:

  • Make sure that the example makes sense to both people who don't know the work AND don't know the trope.
    • Wrong: The Mentor: Kevin is this to Bob in the first episode.
    • Right: The Mentor: Kevin takes Bob under his wing in the first episode and teaches him the ropes of being a were-chinchilla.
  • Never just put the trope title and leave it at that.
    • Wrong: Badass Adorable
    • Right: Badass Adorable: Xavier, the group's cute little mascot, defeats three raging elephants with both hands tied behind his back using only an uncooked spaghetti noodle.
  • When is normally far less important than How.
    • Wrong: Big Bad: Of the first season.
    • Right: Big Bad: The heroes have to defeat the Mushroom Man lest the entirety of Candy Land's caramel supply be turned into fungus.
  • A character name is not an explanation.

I would like to add an example to the trope Our Hydras Are Different. I do not know if it would be filed under Tabletop Games or Fanworks, given its nature.

Specifically, the example pertains to a monster called the False Hydra. It's homebrew, so it would never appear in any official source book. This begs the question: tabletop games due to how and where it's used most, or fan works, due to its origins?

[up][up][up] Wow, those are bad.

  • Cheryl ask for you to be her protector; She says that feels elation when hanging out with you, and also wants to meet you again later. Eventually you both form couple in the battle frontier
    • Could be legit.
  • Riley and you spend time in the iron island's cave. After that. he gives you a Lucario egg, that's his favorite Pokemon. Later in the Battle frontier, when you form a pair with him, Riley remembers the first time you met, rambling that the destiny would put you together in other moment, even if you didn't met the first time in the cave.
    • The grammar's so bad that I question its accuracy, plus it seems to conflate "literally any feelings such as friendship" as "romance"
  • Pokémon Ranger does this. Quite a bit, actually. For Ranger Shipping (Solana x Lunick) fans, you've got not only the various little hints throughout the game, you've also got the Groudon mission. Same with the Kyogre mission for Solana/Lunick x Aria fans.
    • ZCE
  • Shadows of Almia has a bit of Ranger School Shipping (Kate x Keith and Kellyn x Keith) too.
    • Ditto
  • Guardian Signs dabbles in a bit of Oblivia Shipping (Ben x Summer) too: Nema teases Ben and Summer that they are going on a date when out on patrol. Whichever one is not the player character begins talking quickly and getting flustered.
    • Seems legit.
  • Ship Tease between Misty and the Red & Blue Player Character's Surrogate is not limited to Ash. The first 4koma had Red drooling over Misty a few times, Satoshi in Pokémon Zensho is implied to be attracted to her, even using a heart when he talks to her once, and Misty is out-right in love with Red in Pokémon Adventures. Even the games themselves have Red and Misty being buddy-buddy in at least one official art and in Yellow Version, Misty calls Red "sweetie."
    • '''Interestingly, other than the last one, these seem to go the opposite way. It's apparent that Red has a boner for Misty in these, so there's no tease as-written, it's just straight up infatuation.
  • While it can be argued that Ash/Misty (Pokeshipping) lost some of its support with the advent of Serena, and the resulting creation of Amourshipping (especially when it was announced Serena was Ash's Childhood Friend.) fans point to the resurgence of Pokeshipping when Ash and Misty reconnected during the Sun and Moon era of the series, with plenty of flirting between the two and no mention or appearance from Serena at all. With Ash having finally won a Pokemon league at the end of Sun and Moon Fans argue that They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot not showing Misty's reaction to this, and that the only plotline left to resolve for Ash in the show is deciding who to settle down with.
    • A lot of words to say nothing of context about ship tease. This is straight up Shipping Goggles.
  • In the episode "Two Degrees of Separation" where in one instance Brock introduces Ash to a female driver named Claudina who he'd been hoping to score with. Interesting to note that in the entire time he's doing so he's being all touchy feely with Ash, hugging him close and poking and prodding at his face in a playful manner. Later, he finds out that Claudina already has a boyfriend and she drives away. Which leads to this scene from the English dubbed version.
  • Also in Best Wishes, there was some shipping between Ash and Trip going on. Trip seems to have the same personality like Paul...until BW 022 when you realize he's a full blown Ice King but this attitude is limited to Ash only. In that episode the minute Ash tries to praise him, Trip avoids eye contact which is a huge sign of Sugar And Ice. Later appearances drop the Jerkass side completely.note And when does any of Ash's rivals actually help him out concerning one of his Pokémon? Trip would be the first if you don't count Gary after he Took a Level in Kindness.
    • Ditto
  • While many of Pokémon's pairings are full of Ship Tease, Appealshipping (Zoey/Dawn) takes the cake. Their scenes together are just tinged with touchy-feely-blushy moments.
    • ... ditto.
  • Volkner and Flint are really close.
    • No context

Reposting from the previous four pages:

In Mirai Sentai Timeranger, Lila serves as Don Dolnero's moll and aids him in his plans. By the end of the series, she escapes to safety before Gien begins the Great Extinction of 2001. Thus, it’s unknown if she faces any major comeuppances.

As I recall, characters disappearing before the Final Battle is a reasonable explanation for them leaving the story. As such, does the Timeranger example count as a true "What Happened to the Mouse?"?

I discovered this Twitter account that talks about innacurate uses of weapons in fictional media. Do we have a trope for innapropiate gun uses?

Artistic License – Gun Safety doesn't sound like it. For example, the tweet states "In JOKER (2019), Arthur Fleck kills three men with 8 shots from a .32 caliber snubnose revolver without reloading. However there is no revolver in that caliber with an 8 round cylinder." This is not about gun safety but gun use.

Could I get some help here?

Would this be a valid example of Hypno Fool, despite not being played for laughs?

  • Red Panda Adventures: While the Red Panda regularly uses his powers of hypnosis to subdue and/or interrogate criminals, the Super Speedy supervillain Jackrabbit is a unique case. The first time they clash, the Red Panda uses his hypnosis to make her think she's moving at super speed when she is, in fact, moving normally. It's revealed in her next appearance that the Red Panda planted a post-hypnotic suggestion that does much the same thing, temporarily blocking her access to her powers once a trigger phrase is spoken, precisely because he knew they would face one another again and wanted to be ready.

Also, to bring back one from a couple pages ago, would the following count for Terminator Twosome?

  • Red Panda Adventures: The episode "The Red Squirrel" features the Flying Squirrel's Kid from the Future, the Red Squirrel, going back in time to 1930s Toronto because one of her Rogue's Gallery, the Puppeteer, is sending robot bombs into the past to kill the Red Panda and/or the Flying Squirrel to prevent the Red Squirrel's rise as a superhero, either by stopping her birth altogether or keeping her more "mild-mannered secret identity". The Red Squirrel allies herself with her predecessors to tamper with one of the kill-bots and send it back to the Puppeteer, destroying his time platform, alerting her allies back home, and ensuring the villain shouldn't be able to try again.

Basically there's no "Terminator", per se, since it's multiple robots being sent back (at least 3, though one at a time). On the other hand, there is a Skynet doing the sending, so I'm wondering if Tropes Are Flexible can come into play here.

I'm trying to judge if Stock Audio Clip is the proper trope to actually be using in this event or not. It was recently discovered through some searching that Scorpi's "voice" on Mixels was actually made up of archived clips from Maria Bamford in Adventure Time, but I wasn't sure if Stock Audio Clip counts as an instance of this trope or not, since every example seems to be "same version of audio used in the same series" instead, or if a different trope fits better.

There is a music track from the anime Dragon Ball GT that has been used for years with video blogger Dross Rotzank. The track is more known for his videos than for the anime in general. Is this Adaptation Displacement or Weird Al Effect?

On the Pyramid Head section on Silent Hill, He has an anti-villain section. I'm not sure that he's totally malicious as the troper put him on, since he's a manifestation of James' guilt, sense for justice, sexual frustration, and guides him along throughout the game. This is even furthered at how you can just ignore PH and keep going to your destination whenever he pops up to attack you or just mulling about in the surroundings-even on boss fights- then he leaves or kill himself. The worst he done, other than putting monsters in sexual situations, is pushing James off a cliff on a hospital, but that reveals a previously-unseen location; and killing Maria throughout the game, who is also fake and part of James' guilt in order for James to see the truth of his wife Mary's death.

Should the trope on PH be replaced with Savage Setpiece, Cruel to Be Kind, or some variation of Helpful Mook , since he's hostile but not malicious and yet helps James along the way with hostile ways? He's not a villain either.

On Token White:

  • Pokémon:
    • Tracey was designed to have an Anglo-Saxon look, making him the Token White of the Orange Islands arc (though his Japanese name being "Kenji" implies he's Japanese).
    • Cilan was also the token white of the group for the Unova saga, with Ash being Asian and Iris being Ambiguously Brown.

Is this really an example of the trope? Race was never a thing in Pokemon. Pretty sure they are just meant to be Japanese maaybe except for when they are Ambiguously Brown.

[up] Race is never explicitly mentioned but the Fantasy Counterpart Culture element makes it noticeable. Ash is fantasy Japanese, Cilan is fantasy American. Now, whether Cilan is white is a different issue due to Mukokuseki.

I wrote this entry for Dumb Blond and So... You're a Cartoonist?.

  • In a strip of So... You're a Cartoonist?, author Andrew Dobson depicts the winner of a beauty contest, who is blond, as a dumb broad. The woman is asked what her opinion is on gay marriage, and the woman, in her stupidity, mumbles that "marriage is like between a man and a woman", only for main character Atea to kick her yelling "Lesbian kick!" because she can't stand ignorance. The audience then congratulates her for her assault.
This strip is based on real life model Carrie Prejean who during Miss Usa 2009 was asked her opinion regarding gay marriage, which she replied that due to her upbringing she believed in traditional marriage. Dobson characterized her as a dumb bimbo who barely speaks coherently.

I want to add Carrie Prejean quote below the context of the example.

[up][up][up][up] Pyramid Head, along with basically everything else in Silent Hill, is heavily prone to Alternative Character Interpretation. Outside of his nature as a part of James' subconscious, there's very little that the game is explicit about. We should avoid listing anything that paints him as "definitely evil" or "secretly Good All Along".

I recently updated a Power Copying example for a character on the Age of Sigmar: Grand Alliance Death character page but after reading the trope discription I am unsure if it actually fits as the description seems to say it is about coppying enemy powers. Here is the example:

  • Power Copying: As a simple way to represent Nagash's vast knowledge of death magic, his 1st Edition rules gave him the ability to cast any spell known by other Death Wizards on the battlefield. This ability was removed in 2nd Edition, in exchange for Nagash knowing all the spell from some lores of death magic.

Is the trope flexible enough to cover copying powers simply by being close to them or is it misuse?
