  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: She betrays Bell when he's surrounded by monsters so he can be Left for Dead, but then she herself gets mugged by the Soma Familia who in turn leave her for dead much like she had done for Bell. Unlike most examples of this trope, it doesn't stick and Bell, the very person she had betrayed, comes to her rescue and saves her. From that point on her friendship with Bell goes from pretend to genuine.

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: In Episode 5, it's revealed that Ansem had to kill off one of his "inner circle" (a factotum named Ray) at one point for betraying him.

11. NightmareFuel.Halo

  • The cutscene for Spartan Ops Episode 2 has Dr. Glassman being sucked up by a Forerunner artifact, complete with Capt. Lasky futilely trying to save him. With how his body breaks into glowing orangle particles just before he gets pulled in, it looks disturbingly like he's being Composed.
    • Episode 3 reveals Glassman's fate. On the plus side, he hasn't been composed. On the minus side, he's been captured by the Covenant, and apparently is offering to trade information for his life; with Jul 'Mdama suggesting he'll end up Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves after helping them. Also, the Artifact is apparently accessing systems aboard the Infinity, gathering information and transmitting it to Requiem.

12. Literature.Judge Dee

  • A Family Affair: One case involved a young man having an affair with one of his father's young concubines, even planning to murder his father and frame a local artist who claimed the father was a traitor to his country. Unfortunately, in Confucianist China the issue of disrespecting one's father is so important that the son might as well have been screwing his biological mother, and the judge indirectly orders him to commit suicide (the father was murdered, but for entirely different reasons by someone else).

13. VideoGame.Warhammer Mark Of Chaos

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Sudobaal's is executed by Thorgar for his betrayal.
Thorgar: The Gods favour ME and have abandoned you, foul Shaman. I was Their chosen, not you. You could have shared in the greatness that will be mine, but you have thrown it away!
14. Characters.Trapped In A Dating Sim The World Of Otome Games Is Tough For Mobs Holfort

15. Characters.The Longest Journey Saga

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Though the "traitor" part is somewhat sympathetic as Flipper was offered what can only be considered a borderline Morton's Fork choice by the Vanguard. They offered to restore his legs if he would rat out April and made it clear that they would kill him if he refused. When Flipper accepts the offer, the Vanguard fatally shoot him anyway.

16. Fanfic.Less Than Zero Kenchi 618

17. Characters.Blacksad

18. Characters. The Thousand Autumns Of Jacob De Zoet

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Implied to have been killed off by Enomoto after the death of Ogawa. The report Jacob receives states that 11 bandits (fitting with Shuzai and his ten men) had been tortured to death as penalty for Ogawa's death by Enomoto, and he is never seen again after that.

19. DiabolusExMachina.Live Action TV

  • Blake's 7 is loaded with Diabolus ex Machinae. For example, people who say they hate Servalan, and have no reason to like her, keep betraying the protagonists to her, even though she has never rewarded a traitor and kills them each time. In "Rumours of Death", she's been deposed in a revolution, and she's in a dungeon cell, awaiting execution. Avon picks this time to care about anything other than himself, for the first time in the series, avenging his old girlfriend's death. So he frees Servalan in return for information. He makes that a priority over everything else, including winning and safety (usually his highest priority).

20. Literature.Destroyermen

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: How do General Pete Alden and Lord Muln-Rolak respond to the offer of a Grik general to join the Grand Alliance in their "hunt" and then casually mentioning eating another tribe of Grik? By slaughtering every Grik in sight except for a civilian Grik who is taken prisoner.

21. VideoGame.Batman Arkham Asylum

Varin Omega is unimpressed with either of them, has their machine confiscated and both tossed in a cell.

24. Characters.Lighter Than Heir

25. Fanfic.The King Nobody Wanted

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Selyse Florent betrays her house to the Dragon court, exposing their conspiracy and throwing in some slander about Human Sacrifice to the old gods. Exact Words is then employed to send her to the Faith instead of letting her inherit Brightwater Keep — she was promised a great marriage, and now she's married to the Gods themselves.

30. Characters.Hyrule Warriors Dark Forces

31. Men Are the Expendable Gender

A female character can lose some or even all of the audience's sympathy if they are manipulative, somehow "immoral", ugly, violent or just plain evil. Male characters, on the other hand, have to earn the audience's sympathy by entertaining or interesting us with their actions. If they don't, we either don't care what happens to them or want them to suffer for failing to entertain/interest us. A Lovable Coward male character is not an exception since we find them entertaining.

32. Film.Caveman

33. VideoGame.Spyro 2 Riptos Rage

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Moneybags sells Ripto some bombs to take over Winter Tundra. Ripto's first act after stepping into the castle is to kick him out.

34. Characters.The Eminence In Shadow

35. YMMV.Demons Souls

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Since the Old One has no role beyond being the source of Colorless Fog, we learn nothing about its thought process. In particular, making humans into demons who feed on a stream of souls. Is that a reward or a punishment? Given what happened to Allant once the flow of souls was cut off, someone who chooses to serve the Old One would eventually be subjected to a And I Must Scream.

36. Characters.Survivor Samoa

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Flipped to Russell's alliance and more or less was the final nail in the Galu coffin. When it comes to just his five and Brett... and Brett becomes immune to the vote... three guesses who the first to go is. The first two don't count.

37. Characters. The Vampire Diaries Universe Mikaelsons

38. KickTheSOB.Anime And Manga

  • Fairy Tail
    • After Crawford Theme, the former head of the Magic Council, sells out his former colleagues, resulting in Tartaros killing them all for the keys to the Anti-Magic superweapon Face, and then transfers Jellal's "key" to himself, Kyoka stabs him in the back, killing him. It's a brutal act, but no one appears to feel sorry for him.

39. TheMole.Live Action TV

40. Characters.Doctor Who John Simms Master

  • Hypocrite: During his first cabinet meeting as PM, he berates all his cabinet members for betraying their own parties, and rewards them appropriately. This despite the fact that he has no remorse about having betrayed his own people and his former best friend in the past.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Invoked regarding his short-lived Cabinet, all of whom jumped ship to support him. He "rewards" them with a room's worth of poison gas. The fact that he possibly got them to do this via the same Subliminal Seduction he used on the entire country to get himself elected may make this a particularly nasty Subverted Trope, though.

41. EstablishingCharacterMoment.Webcomics

42. Characters.Tales Of The Jedi

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: She betrays Ulic by abandonning him to be captured by the Jedi on Coruscant so she could be the sole ruler of the Krath. Exar Kun and Ulic respond by sending her on a suicide mission in the Cron Cluster with a sun-destroying device used by Naga Sadow, knowing that she would rip the heart of a star with it and thus cause a supernova that would kill her.

43. Film.Vlad Tepes

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: In the beginning of the film, Vlad is battling a rival lord, when one of his soldiers stabs the guy In the Back. Vlad has him executed despite planning to kill the guy himself, precisely because he swore an oath of fealty Vlad didn't.

44. ComicBook.The Brood Saga

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Fang, an Imperial Guardsman who assisted Deathbird in her attempted coup is brought before the Brood as the warrior-egg implanted in his body nears hatching. Logan (who is the X-Men at this point capable of seeing through the Brood's illusions) can't help but privately smirk at the traitor receiving such a grizzly fate.

45-46. Literature.Ultramarines

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves:
    • Kasimir de Valtos and Vendare Taloun in Nightbringer. In the former's case, he murders many of the ruling elite on Pavonis, sets off a civil war and allies with Dark Eldar pirates (all horrendous crimes against the Imperium) to release the C'tan known as the Nightbringer in the belief it will make him immortal, while the latter reluctantly allies with him in a bid to seize the position of Planetary Governor that his family used to hold. Kasimir discovers that the Nightbringer has no need to acknowledge his existence, much less reward him, and ends up being decapitated and his soul eaten by the Nightbringer, while Taloun is arrested, forced to confess his crimes in a very public trial, then hanged from a statue of the Emperor.
    • Mykola Shonai in Courage and Honour. She invited a Tau delegate to talk with the intention of having the Tau establish trading links with the hopes of bringing Pavonis out of its economic depression, but when the Tau (as Uriel warned) resorted to violence when their overtures were rebuffed, she is arrested, tortured and brutally interrogated to learn what other information she might have given the xenos, the savagery of which ultimately kills her.

48. YMMV.Blade And Soul

  • The Scrappy:
    • Namsooyoo is hated by the majority of players after she betrays the Bamboo Guards to the Blackram, causing an invasion that destroyed the village just to have a chance to have a rich life, tries to silence Cricket when discovered to be in Zaiwei, and revealed to be the missing Talus Princess while receiving no comeuppance from her actions. While she had a Rescued from the Scrappy Heap moment in Solak, players still loathe her and are more sympathetic to Gwon's fate than her kidnapping.

49. Theatre. The Thwarting Of Baron Bolligrew

  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Bolligrew tries to trick Doctor Moloch by paying him with chocolate money. Moloch promptly betrays their plan to the Dragon. The Dragon promises that Moloch will be well paid for that information, lures him into his cave to collect the money, and eats him.

50. JustForFun.How To Invade An Alien Planet

  1. At the same time, keep a close eye on any turncoats that have joined your side. If they're willing to betray their own species, their words of loyalty aren't worth squat; reward them appropriately. And some of them aren't really working for you at all.
