Main Characters

    Finn Campbell

Finnegan Campbell

The main protagonist, a version of Finn who ended up on Ooo years later than in canon. Regardless, with his instinctual fighting spirit and his need to help others he still ends up becoming Ooo's new greatest hero.
  • Adaptational Badass: He gets to grow into the same adventuring badass as his canon self but also has ice ninja powers that let him fight even better against threats.
  • Adaptational Context Change:
    • In the show he lost his arm when the Grass Sword tried to help him keep Martin from leaving him, here he loses it in his fight against Dr. Gross.
    • Flame Princess dumps him like she did in the show's fifth season but instead of it being due to his selfish manipulative behavior it is instead because she realized that as long as her emotions aren't under control she will be danger to not just Finn but others.
  • Adaptation Expansion: His ice ninja powers become a part of his regular moveset, while in canon he never used them again after the episode where he learned them.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: In canon he started out as an Idiot Hero and only truly began improving on this front in the later seasons. Here, he's had a stable upbringing and has attended school which has allowed him to be a Genius Bruiser instead.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Because he arrived at Ooo when he's already an adult and has had a stable upbringing he's much more considerate and calmer than in canon, which results in him avoiding various problems his canon self had with his persona relationships.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Like in canon he loses his right arm, this time during the battle against Dr. Gross.
  • Chick Magnet: Every girl on Founders Island has a crush on him, most notably Sarah, and on Ooo he becomes every princess' desired date, he also manages to catch the eye of some water nymphs, Marceline and Huntress Wizard.
  • Disney Death: Gets skewered by Flint and almost dies, in fact he's pretty much dead for a while until he manages to heal back thanks to the Candy Kingdom's efforts and some cosmic interference from Prismo and the Cosmic Owl.
  • The Heart: Having been raised as a Helper by his mother means that he is often acting as the moral balance of his group of friends and even helped make peace between the Candy and Flame Kingdoms.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Like in canon his weapon of choice is a sword, though in this story he inherits Nothung from the deceased Billy.
  • I Choose to Stay: Eventually chooses to stay in Ooo, having come to see that his life in the chaotic place is preferable to living a dull and unfulfilling life like he would've in Founders Island. He tries to communicate this to his mother but it winds up making things more complicated.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: He doesn't say it outright but it's clear that he's disturbed and made twice as remorseful when the Lich remarks on his killing of Dr. Gross who he viewed as family and that he's actually proud of Finn for it.

    Jake the Dog

Jake the Dog

Finn's best friend and his "bro", while they're not brothers here they still share a close bond with each other.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: In the past when Bubblegum got Jake to help her against the Lich he decided to take snack breaks despite the gravity of the situation which caused him to become infamous for his apathy. He's gotten better in the present about it, fortunately.
  • Shipper on Deck: He often tries to set up Finn with some girl (that isn't Marceline) but most commonly with Breakfast Princess who he often reminds Finn is still single.
  • Skewed Priorities: Princess Bubblegum recruited him in the past to help take down the Lich, but he opted to take a snack break in the midst of the battle.
  • Papa Wolf: When he discovers that "The Evolutioniary"/Dr. Gross kidnapped one of his children, TV, he becomes very adamant on stopping her and getting his son back.

    BMO

BMO

Jake's closest friend before Finn arrived, a sentient videogame console-like robot that follows him around. He becomes another one of Finn's inner friend circle upon meeting him.

    Marceline

Marceline the Vampire Queen

One of the first friends Finn made on Ooo and the one who gives him his house, she becomes his first girlfriend.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: She becomes Finn's first love interest and girlfriend, whereas in canon the two were never more than friends.
  • Famed In-Story: She is a legend on Founders Island that everyone looks up to and respects thanks to helping their ancestors escape to safety from the vampires, though in turn the details of her adventures got muddled to the point some think she beat the other vampires in some bizarre unlikely ways.
  • First Love: After dealing with her father when Finn tags along she ends up having sex with him and later becomes his girlfriend. They end up breaking up after Finn loses his arm.
  • It's Not You, It's Me: Breaks up with Finn because she had begun to realize she was starting to use him for her own secretly selfish satisfaction and after he nearly dies killing a woman who'd been his aunt figure his whole life she couldn't bear to drag him along in the relationship any further.
  • Kick the Dog: She breaks up with Finn after he'd lost his arm and had to kill his aunt figure, she herself acknowledges it was cold of her to do so despite doing it because she didn't want to keep using Finn as a thrill outlet.

    Princess Bubblegum

Princess Bubblegum/Bonnibel

The princess of the Candy Kingdom who takes it upon herself to help Finn get back home while simultaneously supporting his hero career.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon she only ever returned Finn's feelings when she was regressed to being 13 years old but upon growing back to her real age things went back to normal. Here since Finn meets her at an older age she does develop feelings for him, which cause tensions when Finn begins dating Marceline.
  • The Chains of Commanding: The effects of the stress of leading a country have taken their toll on her, especially with the added guilt of the unintentional fallout of her actions which among them included Billy's death when she brought him out of retirement to fight the Lich.
  • Jerkass to One: While she gets along swimmingly with mostly everyone she starts out cold towards Marceline and outright disdainful of Ice King; the former being due to the two breaking up in the past and the latter for constantly kidnapping her even after his turn to good.

    Ice King

Ice King/Simon Petrikov

The ruler of the Ice Kingdom, starting out as a deranged kidnapper of princesses he mellows out upon befriending Finn.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In canon he and Finn were enemies for a while and despite his more noble qualities even early on was still a pretty nasty guy when he set his mind to it. Here he becomes an ally and friend of Finn upon meeting him since Finn is able to see he's pretty miserable and befriends him from the get-go. At most he just kidnaps him and others so they will listen to his stories but has no real malice behind it.
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite having almost died at Flame Princess' hands in the past he bears no ill will to her in the present.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Though his choices were limited, him zapping Kara with his lightning magic in an attempt to save Finn and Jake causes her to regress to child mentality which badly shakes up Finn.
  • Offscreen Momentof Awesome: He was the one to neutralize the threat of the Lich when he escaped, luring him into his Kingdom and freezing him solid in the depths of it.

    Shoko

Shoko

Finn's most recent past life, who eventually reappears as a manifestation of his conscience when her memories are brought back to the surface.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Only bits of her Dark and Troubled Past were given in canon, here we get a whole chapter dedicated to her childhood and showing just how awful she had it. We also get more of her personality, including her being a bit of a pervert in life and beyond.
  • Ascended Extra: She was a minor character in the show who only had 2 appearances excluding cameos or being pictured, here she remains in the plot as a Spirit Advisor to Finn after he helps return the amulet she once took from Bubblegum.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Fell in love with Bubblegum because the princess was the first person to be nice to her. Leaving her feeling very guilty when she stole the princess' special amulet.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: She's a nice girl despite her shifty past and is incredibly horny and prone to making sexual remarks about the many women of Ooo to Finn.
  • Spirit Advisor: She becomes one to Finn after he returns the amulet she stole to Princess Bubblegum, often advicing him, snarking at his unwise decisions or at times even helping him in battle.

Ooo

Flame Kingdom

    Flame Princess

Flame Princess/Flame Queen/Phoebe

The former princess, now Queen of the Flame Kingdom, who took the throne after deposing her father when she was 13 years old. Despite her grudge against PB she tries her best to reign in her royal court's evil tendencies.
  • Cain and Abel: With her brother, Flint, who is violent and arrogant and wishes to see the Candy Kingdom be burnt down and even tries to kill Finn for interfering and ruining it while Phoebe is willing to make peace despite her disdain for PB.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She hates PB for what she's done to her but stops short of trying to kill or seriously injure her or her subjects, opposing her royal court's wishes to wage war greatly.
  • Flat "What": She lets out a rather loud one when she learns that Finn is dating Marceline.
  • It's Not You, It's Me: The reason Phoebe why she breaks up with Finn is that she feels that as long as her emotions are thrown out of wack by her feelings for Finn, she will be a danger to everyone (even her boyfriend), so she ends things for both their sakes after she and Finn have dealt with Scorcher's attempted hit on PB.
  • Jerkass to One: She is a nice girl to just about everyone when they don't provoke her... Except for Bonnibel, who destroyed her kingdom's guardians in the past out of fear and also unintentionally got her father to trap her in a lamp for most of her childhood.

    Flambo

Flambo the Flambit

A fire imp from the Flame Kingdom and one of the tour guides of the place.
  • Distressed Dude: Chapter 25 ends with him kidnapped by The Evolutioniary/Dr. Gross.

    Cinnamon Bun

Cinnamon Bun

A former Candy Kingdom citizen who became Flame Princess' knight.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Regardless of Finn not causing this universe's events of "Frost and Fire" and also not participating in the equivalent to the events "Earth and Water" he still became Flame Princess' knight.

Wizard City

    Huntress Wizard

Huntress Wizard

A mysterious forest wizard who specializes in plant and hunting-related magic. Despite her aloofness she becomes an ally to Finn and co.
  • Ascended Extra: In the series she only became a main character in the last stretch of season 8 having been a minor character or just showing up through cameos beforehand. Here she is more directly present from the start and becomes an ally to the heroes earlier on.
  • Green Thumb: She has plant-based magic in addition to her hunting skills and hunting-oriented magic.
  • Troll: She loves to rile up Finn by claiming that he owes her several favors and things in return for her help, up to and including his soul.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: Has claimed that Finn owes her his soul due to the many times he's requested her favor.

    Abracadaniel

Abracadaniel

A mediocre wizard who can only conjure weak rainbow spells and one of Ice King's friends from Wizard City.

Others

    Lumpy Space Princess

Lumpy Space Princess

The princess of Lumpy Space, currently living in the wild after leaving her parents' home. She is one of the first beings of Ooo Finn meets.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: She gets the hots for Finn and is pretty adamant on being his girlfriend, when she learns that Marceline got to him first despite her calling "dibs" she does not take it well and spreads the gossip out of spite.

    Breakfast Princess

Breakfast Princess

The princess of the Breakfast Kingdom who develops a crush on Finn like the other princesses.

    Billy

Billy

The prior great hero of Ooo, despite retiring he got back into action to fight the Lich but lost his life in the battle, regardless his influence remains on modern-day Ooo.
  • Adaptational Context Change:
    • In canon he un-retired thanks to Finn and Jake proving to him that the fight against evil with violence still had merit, while here he un-retired because Princess Bubblegum recruited him to take down the Lich when he broke out.
    • His death at the Lich's hand happened in the midst of fighting against him in his return, rather than getting ambushed and then posthumously turned into a disguise.
  • Demoted to Extra: In canon he lived long enough to meet Finn and have a whole episode in the present before the Lich killed him, here he is already dead by the time the fic starts.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Instead of being ambushed and killed by the Lich in the cave where he retired to, Billy was killed in action when he tried to help PB stop the escaped Lich.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: Saved Ooo long ago from many threats, especially the Lich, and despite his death his legacy lives on in Finn once the human takes up the role of being Ooo's hero.
  • Posthumous Character: Long-dead in the fanfic his influence still is felt as Finn develops into Ooo's next great hero.

Humans

    Minerva Campbell

Minerva Campbell

Finn's mum, who got to raise him after he and Martin washed back to shore following Martin's botched escape attempt. While she ended up almost dying to a plague accidentally unleashed by Dr. Gross, she managed to keep herself alive through uploading her mind into an AI and ever since has become the defacto ruler of Founders Island.
  • Anti-Villain: She's not evil but her actions of trusting Dr. Gross and being desperate to see Finn back home end up causing more trouble than it's worth with even other humans coming to see she's taking things too far.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Not out of malice but her desire to see Finn back home drives the events of the fanfic and the repercussions of her choices begin having catastrophic effects on Ooo that threaten to not only endanger all its inhabitants but also unleash the Lich. She shares this role with Dr. Gross who technically works for her but is also acting on her own, as well as the Lich himself who is unwittingly helped by her actions.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: She is very trusting towards Dr. Gross, who she treats like a sister, despite her lack of remorse towards the plague she caused on Hub Island and her moral shiftiness that virtually every other character comments on.
  • Mama Bear: She loves Finn more than anything in the world and it doesn't matter if it's her ex-husband, she will deliver harm upon those who endanger him.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Delivers one to Martin after Finn goes missing following another botched escape attempt on his part.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Unfortunately her actions to try and bring back Finn end up causing trouble for Ooo enough that Finn goes to meet up with her in person to put an end to her gradually more extreme methods which culminates in him leaving Ooo unprotected right as the Lich finally breaks out.

    Martin Mertens

Martin Mertens

Finn's estranged father who nearly caused him to get lost when he was a baby. Regardless of his screw-up and Minerva leaving him, he still sees his son from time to time.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In canon he started out as a conman who mellowed out during his time with Minerva and was perfectly willing to protect his son at all costs but changed for the worst once after he and Finn went missing at sea. Here he does become willing to take Finn into a dangerous situation when he thinks he and his pals will not suffer harm if he's with them but when his actions end in Finn going missing, he feels genuine remorse over it and vows to help find him even if it ends in him going through re-education. When Finn makes it back to the Islands Martin is happy to see him alive and later gives him some genuine advice, compared to his canon self mostly just telling Finn that he doesn't looks back on his screw-ups as their final conversation.
  • Adapted Out: Because he never left the Islands his tenure as Mr. M and imprisonment on the Citadel never happened, instead being locked up in Founders Island under Minerva's orders.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: His ultimate goal is to live a happy life which to him is a free one, he almost had a good life with Minerva but various circumstances brought him back to square one. After years in jail, he admits to Minerva that he's really broken up about his life thus far and really doesn't wants to go back to jail when she opts to recruit him to help her find Finn, even if he has to be re-educated as punishment for causing Finn's disappearance to begin with.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's selfish and manipulative but he genuinely loves Minerva and his son, Finn, despite being responsible for putting the latter in danger multiple times he does not want to see him hurt. He is overjoyed when Finn turns up alive and later gives him some genuine advice to reflect on his wants and selflessness, telling him it's his choice to make on whether to stay on the Island or stay in Ooo.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Like in canon though here he's much more immediately remorseful about how his actions affect others.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Minerva tells him his actions ended in Finn going missing, he genuinely feels horrible about it and agrees to help find him.
  • Unwitting Pawn: He had been one to Dr. Gross all along, the latter having arranged for him to escape and take Finn on his escape raft so the Guardian would send Finn away in his attack and give her a good excuse to begin exploring the world outside the Island.

    Kara Strong

Kara Strong/Susan Strong

The strongest of the Seekers and Finn's older sister figure. After the latter goes missing she embarks on a one-woman quest to bring him back.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon she was simply a good friend of Finn but hadn't been around most of his life despite ending up in Ooo while trying to find him as a baby. Here, she's known him since birth and is his big sister figure and one of his closest friends.
  • Anti-Villain: Her attempts to bring Finn back to Founders Island goes against what he and his friends in Ooo wish but she is not doing it out of anything but genuinely wanting him back home.
  • Cool Big Sis: Not Finn's biological sister but nonetheless acts and is seen by Finn as one, when Finn goes missing she doesn't hesitate to go and rescue him and though she nearly forced Finn to return to Founders Island she was willing to hear him out on his reasons for staying before her programming overrode her free will.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: She almost gets convinced to let Finn stay on Ooo but when her Seeker programming overrides her free will a series of events end in her being regressed to child-level mentality.

    Dr. Gross (Unmarked Spoilers

Dr. Cassandra Gross/The Evolutionary

Minerva's number two and Founders Island's top biologist, Dr. Gross aids Minerva in retrieving Finn but winds up showing she has bigger ambitions than some rescue mission.
  • 0% Approval Rating: No one in Founders Island likes her outside of Finn and Minerva due to them seeing her as family, even the nice Helper Grover is suspicious of her and all but outright asks Minerva to stop trusting her words given Gross' involvement on the plague on Hub Island.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In canon she only met Finn long after he had left Founders Island, here she's known him since birth and is his honorary aunt and teacher, thus when she is killed by his sword, Finn is left very remorseful.
  • Adaptational Villainy: In canon she was responsible for the plague that wiped out nearly all of the helpers and a large portion of the population living on the island, but it had been a genuine accident where she didn't want to hurt anyone. Here the same thing happened, however in the dialogue with Finn while confronting her she admits that she deliberately created the virus with the intent to exterminate half the population of the island (especially including the leaders) just to further hers and Minerva's hold over the Island's people and to make progress for humanity with a worldwide colonization plan, it got out of her control and took out far more people than she had intended including the majority of the Helpers and almost Minerva though this does not disturb Dr Gross in the slightest and in fact she sees it as an experiment that went beyond her expectations (which leaves Finn horrified by her arrogance and sociopathy).
  • Arc Villain: From Chapter 25 to Chapter 31 she takes center stage as "The Evolutioniary" using her mission to bring Finn back home as a vehicle to begin her ambitions of creating a human supremacy dominion across Ooo and beyond then tries to bring Finn to her side by any means.
  • Big Bad: While she only lasts 6 chapters as the central threat and shares the spotlight of antagonism with Minerva and the Lich, she is by far the most active of the three in causing trouble and is behind the fic's entire plot, and even after death she winds up moving the plot by indirectly motivating Finn to confront his mother and put an end to the legacy of her actions once and for all.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Forms one with her superior, Minerva and the Lich; all three pose the greatest threats to Ooo though neither of three is really working together, with even Gross' subservience to Minerva helping her cover up her more selfish and grandiose ambitions.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In canon she is presumed dead after being caught in the explosion of her ship. Here she is definitely killed when Shoko runs her through with Finn's sword.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: She may be Minerva's Number Two, but while her ambitions benefit the former indirectly, she has plans of her own that Minerva isn't aware of and takes advantage of her superior's lack of knowledge of her shady deeds to further her goals.
  • Due to the Dead: Finn buries her after recovering from his injuries.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: She's a horrible person who betrayed anyone she associated with, but Minerva still cared about her even after unleashing the plague that almost cost her life and Finn was really broken up about her death enough to give her a burial.
  • Evilutionary Biologist: She calls herself the "Evolutionary" during her reign of terror in Ooo and lacks any moral barriers to the extents of her desires for mad science and improving upon humanity's evolution.
  • Expy: Dr Gross come across to General Esdeath because: both have The Right of a Superior Species ideals and have a InferioritySuperiorityComplex to boost, they both are The Sociopath to the T and have great resources from their respecteives lands that far surpass those of the Hero side. Also they love dearly The Hero (though for Esdeath is more a romantic and mature love, while for Dr Gross is more of a platonic Honorary aunt and grandson relationship). But they diverge from the fact that Esdeath is One-Woman Army that rarely uses any kind of renforces or really any kind of help, while Dr Gross relies entirely on her technology and machines to do her dirty work and she fights in a robotic suit that allows her to fight on equal terms against the warriors of Ooo but without it, she obviously weak as a sack of potatoes. Also while both they dies by the friends of the heroes (Akame and Shoko respectively), Esdeath has to go by to see she has failed to make Tatsumi falls in love with her and and the only people to mourn her death are his soldiers who not long before tries to kill them all in a futile chance to have her love and the Night Raid to eliminate for good, for lesser terms she has nobody who really care for her or really know her to considers friends and the (unwittingly) lover who in this case the latter understood that she was completely sociopathic and that there was no way to stop her other than to put her down, for Dr Gross she dies by Shoko's intervention and nobody mourns her death excepts Finn who is heartbroken on how he has to kill somebody who he considers as a member of his family and her death deeply affects him for a long time.
  • Fantastic Racism: Sees the inhabitants of Ooo as inferior to humans and has no issue with thoroughly exterminating them to get her goal. She tries and make an exception for Princess Bubblegum and her Candy Kingdom but makes it entirely clear that it's only because she sees use to PB's intellect for her own ends.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: She gets impaled by Finn's sword via Shoko's aid at the end of her arc.
  • The Man Behind the Man: She arranged for Martin's escape feeding false information to him and other Hiders, so he and the other escapees would aid in her goals by getting Finn lost at sea.
  • Manipulative Bastard: She was revealed to have planned to unleashed the plague on Hub Island to eliminate the leaders of the place so Minerva would rise in their place and give them both more power, it ended up happening differently from what she wanted and going far beyond what she'd expected but she was pleased with the results nonetheless. In the present day she arranged for Finn going missing so she'd have an excuse to explore the world beyond the islands and lead a campaign to recolonize the planet in the name of human supremacy.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Often tells PB that they're more alike than the latter would want, such as being manipulative and often driven by self-gain.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: She acts like she just wants to help humanity prosper by any means even if it's through depriving the people of Ooo of their lands and massacring them, but it soon becomes clear she's an egomaniac with a superiority complex, furthered when it's revealed she arranged for Finn ending in Ooo to begin with.
  • The Right of a Superior Species: She views her genocidal ambitions as this, since she believes humans are superior to the "mutant freaks" of Ooo and thus deserve to take back the place that once was their home by any means. She even told Finn in one of her classes in the latter's childhood that because humans are allegedly the only beings capable of change they were "superior" to others.
  • The Sociopath: Gross views all other living beings, especially non-humans, as mere things that happen to exist alongside her and either serve her purposes or don't (in which that case she exterminates them without mercy). She appears to hold some degree of familial-like love for Minerva and Finn, but even that very same love will be overridden by her ego and megalomania if they dare get in her way, going as far as trying to kill Finn when he makes it clear he won't ever join her.
  • We Can Rule Together:
    • Since she was tasked with getting Finn back and has some fondness for him due to having been his aunt figure and teacher, she tries to get Finn to join her and abandon Ooo so he can be a part of her planned human-dominant rule.
    • She also tries to offer Bubblegum a partnership that would spare her kingdom from destruction by the human forces, owing it up to Bubblegum's notably higher intellect than most. Though PB can tell it's meant entirely to benefit Gross rather than genuinely wanting the Candy Kingdom to prosper.

    Sarah

Sarah

Finn's childhood friend, a librarian on Founders Island who has known and had feelings for Finn since they were children.
  • Break the Cutie: She takes Finn's disappearance badly, becoming incapable of doing her job due to her overwhelming grief.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: She's known Finn since they were children and harbors feelings for him, Minerva has also teased Finn about his possible feelings for her to his embarrassment.
  • Identical Stranger: She has many similarities to Betty, both being red-haired scholars who wear glasses and wear green shirts but aren't related to one another. Finn even notes their similarities when he discovers Simon's past photos of himself and Betty.

    Helper Grover

Helper Grover

A Helper and assistant of Minerva who gradually tries to get her to calm down about her desperation to see Finn back home.
  • Only Sane Man: To Minerva and Dr. Gross once the former grows desperate to see Finn back home, Grover is the only of the three major humans that actually takes Finn's feelings about the situation in consideration after hearing his message and attempts to dissuade his fellow humans from taking actions that might end in disaster.
  • Voice of Reason: After hearing Finn's message he realizes that he's genuinely happy in Ooo and tries to talk Minerva into abandoning her gradually more extreme methods to try and get him back.

Cosmic Entities

    Prismo

Prismo

The Wishmaster of the Multiverse who oversees all the realities, he begins to keep an eye out on this one universe, knowing the severity of the divergence has made it important for him to step in to make sure things go right.

    Cosmic Owl

Cosmic Owl

A prophetic deity who appears in dreams of things to come and one of Prismo's pals who aids him in overlooking this fic's universe.
  • Dream Walker: Like in canon he appears in people's dreams and causes said dreams to become reality.

Antagonists

    The Lich

The Lich

The most terrifying being in all of Ooo, once freed himself from his amber prison to wreak havoc but was stopped by the Ice King freezing him. Regardless of his predicament he takes an interest in Finn and continues plotting his return from within his imprisonment.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Since he's the greatest threat and looms over every event with several actions of the cast threatening to unleash him, he's the fic's most dangerous villain; though his initial inactivity due to his seal forces him to temporarily take a backseat to share the spotlight with Minerva and Dr. Gross, neither of whom meet him but do unwittingly help him out.
  • Composite Character: He's the one who depowers Simon briefly here, taking the role of Bella Noche.
  • The Dreaded: The Lich is feared by everybody, his threat was so bad that Bubblegum went as far as recruiting people she was on bad terms with or feared herself (such as Marceline, Flame Princess who she personally freed and even Ice King) just so they could stand a chance at defeating him.
  • Hero Killer: Billy died fighting him after Bubblegum got him out of retirement.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: At first he didn't do anything to Finn or anyone else in the present, but he has spoken to the human and is clearly plotting his return. He's even subtly manipulated people like Flint to try and provoke an all-out war on Ooo so he can be freed in the crossfire. By the later chapters he begins to be much more proactive.
  • The Man Behind the Man: To Flint, who's evil impulses he supported to try and provoke a war between the Flame and Candy Kingdoms.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Was frozen by the Ice King and trapped in the Ice Kingdom's depths with help from the wizards of Wizard City amplifying the ice magic of his prison.
  • So Proud of You: A rather twisted example happens when he praises Finn for gaining the courage to kill his aunt-figure and former teacher, Dr. Gross, praising him for having murdered one of his own in favor of the people of Ooo.

    Flint

Flint

Flame Princess' brother who desires to destroy the Candy Kingdom, after Finn manages to make peace between the kingdoms he plots to kill him as payback for ruining his ambitions.
  • Hero Killer: He all but managed to outright kill Finn, only failing because of a straight-up miracle and some cosmic interference.
  • Put on a Prison Bus: After nearly killing Finn he's been thrown into the Flame Kingdom's jail and hasn't been seen since.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To the Lich who planned to use a war between the Candy and Flame Kingdoms as means of making his escape from his prison.
