     Mai Kazuki / Magical Emi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/download_3_05.jpg
Voiced by: Yōko Obata, Aya Hisakawa (OAV 3)

A 11-year-old girl who loves magic and has secret powers to transform into the 16-year-old Stage Magician Magical Emi.

  • Butt-Monkey: Mai can be this, for her clumsiness, incompetence at magic tricks, and how she's often treated as Just a Kid.
  • Circus Brat: Mai grew up in the Magic Carat Magic Show, a group of magicians lead by Mai's grandparents.
  • Cool Big Sis: Sometimes Mai finds Misaki annoying, but she is mostly a caring sister to him.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She is very klutzy and has accident-prone tendencies. It's the main reason why she is an inept magician. However, her clumsiness disappears when she turns into Emi.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She has become friends with many magical creatures, including an alien princess and a sentient doll.
  • Genki Girl: As Mai, she is a very lively little girl.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: As Mai, she often throws tantrums and gets pissed off, especially at Sho. She is more even-tempered as Emi, except for a few moments.
  • High Hopes, Zero Talent: Mai loves magic and dreams of becoming a Stage Magician, but now she is too clumsy and inept. At the end, it's implied that she still can get better after maturing.
  • Lethal Chef: She is not good at cooking, and one episode is about her being bad at home economics.
  • Like Brother and Sister: With Sho. Mai and Sho become close like siblings, with the bickering too.
  • Magic Idol Singer: Although Emi is a Stage Magician rather than an Idol Singer, her story still follows the Magic Idol Singer template. She even dabbles in Idol Singer territory by combining her magic shows with musical accompaniment.
  • Oblivious to Love: Mai is oblivious to his classmate Musashi's crush on her.
  • Older Alter Ego: Mai is 11, Emi is an older teenager.
  • Precocious Crush: Downplayed. It often implied that Mai has a crush on the 17-year-old Sho Yuki, but it's never clear is she likes him this way, and they are Like Brother and Sister at the end of the day.

  • Always Someone Better: A mild case, but Mai's little brother Misaki is much more gifted at magic than she is, despite being younger.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: He occasionally annoys Mai by being mischievous and hyperactive.
  • Cheerful Child: Misaki is a happy and hyperactive little kid who has too much energy for his age.
  • Keet: Much to Topoi's chagrin, Misaki's energy can be a little hard to handle.
