- Deadpan Snarker: Often becomes this when reacting to the ridiculousness of the situation or to one another.

- Light/Darkness Juxtaposition: Nike wield the power of light, while Kukuri wields the power of darkness.

- Ass Kicking Pose: Parodied with his "Cool Pose." It's an actual ability of Nike's, but it doesn't do much except let him float and look cool.
- Cool Sword: The Dazzler, his magical light sword, can transform into one of the four elements, provided that he has been properly acknowledged by the four Elemental Kings.
- Dirty Kid: Nike occasionally flirts with and/or gets aroused by mostly every girl he meets, much to Kukuri's annoyance.
- Elemental Powers: His magical sword, the Dazzler, can transform into one of the four elements.
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Juju and Runrun are the only ones (aside from his parents) who call him Nike, everyone else refers to him as "Hero".
- Guile Hero: Being of the thief class, he is unsurprisingly this, especially with his "Cheater Blade" technique.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: Played with. Nike, at first, expresses his hesitance to be the hero, wanting to be a mage instead. He eventually grows out of this.
- Kleptomaniac Hero: Subverted as he turns out to be thief class.
- Kleptomaniac Hero Found Underwear: he found a pair inside a crate in Nanacona's house. Kukuri wasn't pleased.
- Laser Blade: His Dazzler is this by default when not using an element.

- Adaptational Dye-Job: Kukuri has dark red hair in the original, brown in Doki Doki Densetsu and bright red in the remake.
- Berserk Button: Kukuri doesn't like to be called "rolly-polly".
- Black Mage: She is this in ability, but a White Magician Girl in personality.
- Beware the Nice Ones: She is usually a cheerful and friendly person, but she can get pretty violent when angered, even without using her magic.
- Brought Down to Normal: This presumably happened to her at the end of the series, since she lost her ability to use Guru Guru as soon as she reached adolescence. Gets subverted in the second Manga when she got her powers back due to her desire to have adventures with Nike again.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: She really hates it when Nike ogles at other girls.
- Child Mage
- The Cutie
- Dark Is Not Evil: Kukuri uses Guru Guru, which is black magic, and Kukuri herself is aligned to the dark element, yet she is one of the good guys.
- The Ditz: She starts out as this, coming up with such ideas like the king must be a giant because of the size of his castle and sticking coins on her face because she doesn't know what money is for.
- Fiery Redhead: Averted. She's quite a sweetheart despite using fire magic most of the time although she does have her moments.
- Fluffy Tamer: During Level 4 of her Training Tower, she is expected to tame a fearsome tiger and it took her months to get past the tests before this one. She's got the beast giving her rides before her guide is finished dancing. She also starts calling her single most dangerous summon, an Eldritch Abomination that summons lightning, "Li'l Behm Behm".
- Geometric Magic: Guru Guru magic relies on her tracing of magic circles to function.
- Inept Mage: Downplayed. Although she can usually cast Guru Guru with no difficulty, there are times where she would screw it up, especially early in the series, accompanied with weird creatures popping up. In the first series, after ten failed Guru Gurus, she is transformed into her demon form.
- Kiddie Kid: She is 13 years old, but usually acts and sounds more like an 8-year-old at most, occasionally throwing tantrums and having a liking for cute things and sweets. It doesn't help that she is drawn much younger than her age, especially in the first and second series.
- Last of His Kind: she is the last known Migu Migu. Though that turns out to not be the case at all since the Migu Migu tribe live in the Heavenly Realm in Anastashia and they visit Alahabica all the time out of boredom
- Nice Girl
- Playing with Fire: Her Ground Snake, Salamander Tail, and Doki Doki Pumpkin Guru Guru makes use of fire for attacks.

- Smitten Teenage Girl: She is occasionally this, especially after she sees Nike for the first time after they couldn't see each other for six months due to her Guru Guru training. Interestingly, she just turned 13 at this point.
- Strawberry Shorthand: Her Strawberry Serpent Guru Guru can shoot strawberry projectiles against the enemies.
- Sweet Tooth: After she discovers chocolate, which her grandma kept away from her all her life. The fact it helps restore MP gives her an excuse to indulge.
- Swiss-Army Tears: Weaponized by Kukuri with the World Fixer Guru Guru to undo Donkama's petrification curse.
- Vocal Evolution: Kukuri sounds noticeably higher in the later episodes of the first series and Doki Doki Densetsu.
- White Magician Girl: Sweet and bubbly as she is, has the personality, but is a Black Mage in ability.
