Title character

     Strawberry Shortcake

Voiced by: Ana Sani (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_episode_37_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_3_32_27.jpeg
The main heroine of the series. Hoping to become the next big name in baking, she moved from her small hometown of Berryville to live with her Aunt Praline in Big Apple City. She runs the Extraordinary Berry bakery truck at the Berryworks, while meeting a bunch of new friends.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Strawberry carries much more doubt in her baking skills than previous incarnations, with several episodes centering around her worries that she isn’t as good a baker everyone says she is, and having to regain her confidence.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: She has long pink hair in this series like her prior incarnation, though it’s completely straight.
  • Alliterative Name: Strawberry Shortcake.
  • Always Someone Better:
    • She and Raspberry form a rivalry due to both being bakers at the Berryworks, and Strawberry would usually one-up Raspberry in episodes focusing on the two. In “Bake-Off”, during their competition on “Bite of the City” to decide who is the superior baker, they end up tying and decide to drop their rivalry.
    • Like prior series, she’s considered a superior baker to the Purple Pieman, both in baking talent, and for her kind nature compared to Pieman’s scheming ways.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: She's the Redhead to Lemon Meringue's Blonde and Lime Chiffon's Brunette.
  • Cheerful Child: She generally has an upbeat attitude and positive outlook on things.
  • Country Mouse: Strawberry originally lived in the small town of Berryville, before moving to Big Apple City to pursue a baking career.
  • Grandma's Recipe: Strawberry inherited several recipes from her late grandma, which she uses for her baking business.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: She always sees the best in everyberry, which tends to get her in trouble with people who exploit her overly trusting nature.
    • In Fruitleg Alley, she thinks that the titular underground market sounded "adorable", and only started to realize the shadiness of the location once she had already walked inside and encountered several deceitful sellers.
    • When she had a rivalry with Raspberry Tart, she constantly believed whatever Raspberry told her, even when it was an obvious lie, and would immediately forgive her by the next episode no matter what Raspberry did to try and sabotage her.
    • With the Peculiar Purple Pieman and Crabapple Jam, she's less trusting of them due to their more blatant antagonism, but she would constantly give them the benefit of the doubt anyway, which tends to lead to trouble. Such as when Pieman manipulated Strawberry into signing away her food truck in “Peculiar Purple Partner”, or when Crabapple tricked her into giving up an opportunity to bake for Kiki KeyLime in “Kiki KeyLime’s Favorite Things”.
  • Irony: In “Strawberry’s Shortcake”, she reveals that she can't bring herself to make a strawberry shortcake. That’s right, Strawberry Shortcake can’t make strawberry shortcake. Though she admits that it's less because she doesn't know how to make a strawberry shortcake, which she does know how to do, and more that she is afraid of trying and messing it all up, since she feels that the dish being her namesake means that she has to get it absolutely right and perfect or it won’t be good enough and, more importantly, SHE won't be good enough as a baker. Thankfully, she does start to get over this and at least make strides to try to make strawberry shortcake after the events of "The Swirlyverse Strikes Back".
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Strawberry's pet is Custard the cat.
  • Magnetic Hero: It's Strawberry's world, and we're all just living in it. Everywhere she goes she ends up making a new friend along the way.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Her lucky mixing spoon is implied to be more than just an ordinary cooking utensil. Cinnamon Swirl, a magic being, even appeared to recognize it when Strawberry showed her it.
  • Meaningful Appearance: Her beanie resembles a strawberry.
  • Memento MacGuffin: Strawberry's lucky mixing spoon, a family heirloom passed down from baker to baker, is a prominent element in the series, and is even implied to be magic in the "Perfect Holiday" special.
  • Nice Girl: She is a sweet girl with a berry big heart.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Downplayed. She has straight pink hair, and is sweet and friendly all the time, but does have her moments of craziness and can be competitive at times.
  • Sanity Slippage: Strawberry occasionally goes through brief stints of this as a Running Gag, to the point where her friends usually expect it to happen when something goes wrong.
  • Supreme Chef: She's an incredibly talented baker and considered one of the best in Big Apple City.
  • Strawberry Shorthand: Extraordinarily sweet, adorable, and kind, Strawberry is the Trope Namer for a reason.
  • Sweet Baker: She’s a nice baker who wants to bake the world a better place, one treat at a time.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: In "Peculiar Purple Partner", after Purple Pieman tricks her into signing away her food truck, she nearly gives up completely and almost moves back to Berryville. Luckily, her friends step in, convince her to stay, and even gets her food truck back from the Pieman.
  • Turn the Other Cheek: She always tries to see the best in people, even if they continue to antagonize her.
  • Youthful Freckles: Has these on her face.

Main Cast

    Orange Blossom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/berry_in_the_big_city_strawberrys_special_palm_reading_strawberry_shortcake_youtube_1_03_49.jpeg
Strawberry’s best friend and one of the first berries to welcome her to Big Apple City, Orange is a Passionate Sports Girl who runs the Citrus Slice smoothie cart at the Berryworks.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: She has orange hair in this series, when prior incarnations had brown or black hair. Her hair is also much curlier than her prior incarnation. Her eyes are also purple, compared to the brown of prior series.
  • Black and Nerdy: Orange is a huge fan of the comic book superheroes Tangerine Smash and Guava Girl, owning every piece of merchandaise there is, and even cosplaying as Tangerine to the opening premiere of Tangerine Smash: Sweet Justice.
  • Competition Freak: She becomes this from time to time, though she usually stays friendly throughout the whole thing, and doesn't take her losses hard.
  • Fitness Nut: Her primary interest is exercise and being healthy.
  • Graceful Loser: Orange can be very competitive and will do what it takes to win, but she doesn't mind if she loses.
  • Lovable Jock: She is sporty, but still sweet and friendly.
  • Medal of Dishonor: Receives this in "And The Smoothie Goes To..." for making the worst smoothie in the competition. Orange still considers it a victory as the judges made an entirely new category just for her entry, and she technically still won something.
  • Nice Girl: Despite her competitive nature, she’s always a good sport at the end of the day, and one of the friendliest berries at the Berryworks.
  • Odango Hair: Her hair has two afro buns like her 2003 incarnation.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She's had many moments showing her love of fitness and exercise.
  • Token Black Friend: Is the only black main cast member, and Strawberry’s best friend. It is downplayed, though, as many other prominent black characters are present in the series as part of the supporting cast.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She’s the tomboy to Strawberry Shortcake, Lime Chiffon, and Blueberry Muffin.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: She was fairly feminine in previous incarnations, while here she’s a bold and sporty girl who has an athletic look.
  • Vibrant Orange: She has bright orange hair.

    Lemon Meringue

Voiced by: Andrea Libman (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_episode_1_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_4_55.jpeg
A tomboyish and feelings-averse inventor/mechanic at the Berryworks, Lemon Meringue is the co-owner of the Lemon-Lime Time juice cart alongside Lime Chiffon. Most of her inventions, while impressive and useful, have an odd tendency to explode.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: This Lemon is probably her smartest incarnation, smart enough to regularly build complex machinery on a near-daily basis.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Lemon started as a model, then was made a hairdresser in the 2003 and 2009 series, and a mechanic/inventor in the 2021 series.
  • Advanced Tech 2000: Lemon names all of her inventions like this, with very few exceptions (The Cakenator).
    • Parodied in "Slumber Party at Lemon's", when she unveils her newest invention, and arbitrarily tacks on more numbers to the name.
      Lemon Meringue: Behold! The Slumber-Party Ninety-Nine Thousand...Fivehundredthirtyseven!
  • Ash Face: Her susceptibility to this is a Running Gag. Her inventions usually end up exploding in her face and leaving her charred, but so do other random objects - like a bus's engine or even a macaron.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: She's the Blonde to Lime Chiffon's Brunette and Strawberry Shortcake's Redhead.
  • Butt-Monkey: Lemon constantly has things blow up in her face, sometimes multiple times per episode.
  • Child Prodigy: She's a Gadgeteer Genius, able to build impressive machines and robots in nearly every episode.
  • Dumpster Dive: “Jam Session” establishes that Lemon digs through the garbage dump often to get scrap metal for her inventions.
  • Eating Pet Food: In "It's My Purr-ty", Lemon Meringue is about to eat a cupcake covered in cat food until Lime Chiffon stops her to point that out, at which Lemon shrugs and eats it anyway. Then Lemon decides to eat another one at the end of the episode.
Lime Chiffon: "Lemon! That's cat food!"
    Lemon Meringue: (shrugs) "Eh."
Lemon Meringue eats the cat food-covered cupcake, as Lime Chiffon looks on in disgust.
    Lemon Meringue: "Mmm, crunchy." (burps)
  • Enraged by Idiocy: Downplayed. In "All About Lemon”, Lemon asks Strawberry to speak in her place for an interview with the tech website Fusionberry due to her social anxiety, but gets so frustrated with Strawberry's unfamiliarity with tech that she ends up stepping in.
  • Evil Laugh: Lemon has one of these, usually when using her more destructive inventions, though she actually isn't evil herself.
  • Eye Glasses: Whenever she wears her goggles. Averted in the episode "Berry Competitive".
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Lemon is an inventor.
  • Girly Girl: She’s generally one of the more feminine characters, but 2003 downplays it and 2021 outright averts this.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: In all incarnations. The 2021 version has her downplay this trope slightly, where she is good-hearted, but antisocial and very aloof.
  • Hates Being Touched: In “Will You Be My Lemontine?”, Lemon reveals her dislike of hugs and physical contact. Future episodes where the Berry Besties do something like a group hug will have Lemon stand off to the side rather than join in.
  • Hates Wearing Dresses: In the “Perfect Holiday” special, she’s outright terrified upon seeing the other girls getting a magic dress, and is relieved when she gets a tuxedo instead.
  • Kiddy Coveralls: Her new look features overalls as part of her new characterization as a rough, hardworking inventor/mechanic.
  • Made of Explodium: In Berry in the Big City, Lemon Meringue’s inventions have a tendency to explode or malfunction in some way for comedic effect.
  • Mad Scientist: Lemon falls into this at times. Some notable "Lemon-ventions" include a robotic duplicate of Strawberry Shortcake, a raygun, an incinerating laser, and several mech suits.
  • No Social Skills: Lemon is introverted and doesn't enjoy talking to others aside from her friends, especially when it comes to talking about herself.
    • In "Lemon's Name in Lights", she refuses to decorate the Berryworks Winterswirl tree because whoever does so has to give a speech at the tree-lighting ceremony, and only goes through with it because Strawberry managed to get the speech rule revoked.
    • In "All About Lemon", she's interviewed by Plum Pudding about her various inventions and can barely utter a single word, needing Strawberry to speak in her place.
  • Odd Friendship: With Lime Chiffon. Lime's a fashionista bookworm concerned with neatness, while Lemon's an antisocial tomboyish mechanic. Despite their occasional frustrations with each other, they always get along in the end.
    • Lampshaded by Strawberry Shortcake, who wonders why they share a cart if they're so different, to which Orange and Blueberry explain the story of how they became friends.
  • Pink Is for Sissies: Downplayed. Lemon expresses verbal disappointment whenever she has to acknowledge Strawberry's oven being pink, but rarely ever brings up her dislike of the color outside of that context.
  • Ray Gun: She’s built a couple of blasters.
  • Running Gag: As mentioned above, her inventions will usually randomly explode for no reason.
  • Spider Tank: Lemon owns one, as seen in Season 3, with a grappling claw and net launcher.
  • Tomboy: Lemon is the least feminine of the main cast. She hates hugs and discussing feelings, and gags at the mention of pink.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's the tomboy to Blueberry Muffin and Lime Chiffon's girly girl.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: Previous incarnations were generally feminine and loved fashion or modeling. Here, she’s a tomboyish mechanic.
  • Valentine's Day Vitriol: Lemon Meringue has a very vocal dislike of Sweetie Pie's Day, due to her general dislike of hugs and sharing feelings.
  • Wrench Wench: Lemon, being a mechanic and inventor.

    Lime Chiffon

Voiced by: Margarita Valderrama (2021-present)
Singing Voice: Cassandra Consiglio (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_6_33.jpeg
The resident fashionista bookworm at the Berryworks, Lime Chiffon runs the Lemon-Lime Time juice cart alongside Lemon Meringue.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Lime is much more intellectual than her previous incarnations.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Lime is a juice cart vendor, when her prior incarnations were a ballerina in the 1980s and an actor in the 2007 series.
  • Adaptational Name Change: She is renamed back to Lime Chiffon, after the 2003 series changed her name to “Lime Light.”
  • Agent Scully: Lime Chiffon acts as this to Blueberry Muffin’s Agent Mulder.
  • Ascended Extra: Lime was only in the last special of the 2003 series, and she was completely absent from Berry Bitty Adventures. In Berry in the Big City, she's a main cast member.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: She's the Brunette to Lemon Meringue's Blonde and Strawberry Shortcake's Redhead.
  • Bookworm: Lime is an avid reader and loves books, often consulting them for information related to the episode plot, and has mentioned being a huge fan of mystery author Apricot Christie.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: Lime wears glasses, unlike her previous incarnations, and mentions that she can’t see at all without them in “Bread Pudding’s New BFF”.
  • The Fashionista: Lime is established as one, with one of her dads being a famous fashion designer, her first solo song being combined with a Costume-Test Montage, and her befriending Bread Pudding due to their shared love of fashion.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She has twin pigtails.
  • Hyperventilation Bag: Lime does this whenever she’s panicking or stressed out.
  • Mobile Kiosk: Lime co-owns the Lemon-Lime Time juice cart with Lemon Meringue, with Lime serving drinks to customers while Lemon performs maintenance.
  • Nerdy Nasalness: She has a slight hint of this in her voice.
  • Odd Friendship: With Lemon Meringue.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: She is this with Bread Pudding.
  • Race Lift: She was made Afro-Latina where as prior versions had her white.
  • Rage Breaking Point: In "A Berryworks Mystery", Blueberry Muffin's constantly bringing up her (supposedly) made-up legends enrages her to the point of shouting. Fortunately, Strawberry Shortcake quickly stepped in.
    Blueberry Muffin: Legends say—!
Lime Chiffon: (Blows her top) History says—!!
Strawberry Shortcake: (Jumps between and separates them) Alright, alright! Enough with the history and the legends!
  • Running Gag: Whenever Lime Chiffon is stressed out or panicking, she curls into a ball and hyperventilates into a paper bag. In “Berry Bounty Bust”, it's shown her father Lime Pops does the same thing, when her other father, Fluffy Chiffon, and Strawberry’s aunt Praline begin fighting over who gets to serve the Berry Bounty dinner.
  • Speak in Unison: Lime does this with Bread Pudding, and later Crepe Suzette, during their fashion brunches.
Strawberry Shortcake: (in cutaway) They're so in-sync they even say the same things! It's adorable!
Lime Chiffon and Bread Pudding: So trendy! So chic! (high five) Love!
Strawberry Shortcake: (in cutaway) Yeah, it's a little creepy.

    Blueberry Muffin

Voiced by: Diana Kaarina (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_a_berry_perfect_kind_of_day_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_6_14_1.jpeg
A Cloudcuckoolander with a spiritual outlook on life, Blueberry Muffin runs the Dreamery Creamery ice cream cart at the Berryworks, where she constantly creates new, unique flavors.
  • Agent Mulder: She is this in spades. She's made numerous attempts in her childhood to meet Cinnamon Swirl and the ghost of J. Quincy Cupcake, and she believes the universe itself is her friend and will always guide her to her goals. In "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday", she gets to meet Cinnamon Swirl.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Blueberry loves to mix weird flavors in her ice cream cart her friends think are either delicious or gross, but still weird either way. Some notable flavors include:
    • Boiled Cabbage & Marshmallow Cone note
    • Ketchup & Jalapeno Swirl note
    • An unnamed ice cream from "Figgy Pudding", consisting of a brown and purple twist sandwiched between two waffle cones, with jalapenos, cheese, wrapped candy, and a PB&J sandwich as toppings.
    • Fennel Pollen & Peppermint, and Garlic Salt & Bubblegumnote
  • Blue Is Calm: She’s usually portrayed as a calm and collected individual, with few things disrupting that attitude.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Her signature color is blue.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She's into new age esoterica like reading auras and prone to incoherent ramblings.
  • The Cloudcuckoolander Was Right: Every time she says something that sounds nonsensical and made-up, it always ends up being true, usually as a Brick Joke to the episode.
  • Cosmic Entity: She believes that the universe itself is her friend, often consulting it for guidance. Mysteriously or by coincidence, she gets that guidance.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: “Following the Recipe” reveals that the 2021 version of Blueberry is dyslexic, which makes it hard for her to read recipes, so she made up all of hers. She avoided bringing up her dyslexia because she felt embarrassed by it, until Strawberry convinced her it was nothing to be ashamed of as she still runs a successful ice cream cart with tons of creative flavors, all without using any recipes.
  • Eccentric Artist: A Running Gag with Blueberry has her using her face to paint.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Due to her more spiritual personality, she claims she can communicate with nature. It's also implied that this isn't just her being a Cloudcuckoolander. She's able to convince bugs to leave her alone just by asking nicely, once held a conversation with a pigeon, and she can (maybe) talk to plants. The one exception to this are roses, as Blueberry claims they have a superiority complex over other plants.
  • Irony: Blueberry Muffin’s previous two incarnations are characterized as total bookworms who love to read more than anything. However, this Blueberry is revealed to be dyslexic, and struggles to read without assistance.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Blueberry sometimes does things that can come across as supernatural.
    • In "All in the Palm", she manages to correctly predict everything that will happen to her friends in one word while palm-reading.
    • In "Scaryoke", Blueberry seemingly levitates a sheet onto her ice cream cart while decorating for Fright Fall.
    • In "Strawberry's Friendship Party", she tells Strawberry she can't attend the titular party via paper airplane, but then tells her that the cupcakes she baked were delicious. Sure enough, one of the cupcakes mysteriously has a bite mark.
    Strawberry Shortcake: Ok, that's creepy.
    • In "The House on Scary Berry Lane", she instantly appears next to Strawberry and Raspberry in a flash of lightning.
    • She believes the universe is her friend and will often consult it for advice on how to fix the main problem of the episode. She always gets that advice one way or another, and it's never clarified if the universe really is acting on her behalf.
  • Race Lift: Blueberry is East Asian-coded, when her previous incarnations were white.
  • Shipper on Deck: In the episode "Case of the Missing Spoon" she is this to, of all things, her ice cream scoop and Strawberry's lucky spoon.
Blueberry Muffin: (talking about Strawberry's lucky spoon) Maybe it was lonely and came to see my ice cream scoop. (gasp) Maybe they're in love!
Blueberry Muffin: (setting the spoon and scoop down together) Aww, look, they're spooning.
  • Sibling Rivalry: While usually serene, Blueberry has a bad case of this with Everything Bagel. Whenever they're on screen together they get caught up in petty bickering at best and a Big Ball of Violence at their worst.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Blueberry can communicate with insects, and is allegedly able to hold a conversation with a pigeon.
  • Talking to Plants: Blueberry claims she can talk to plants, and is shown supposedly having conversations with mint, pumpkins, and she says she's really good at "speaking sweet potato". Occasionally the show implies that she is actually telling the truth.
    • In “Spring Spectacular”, she manages to successfully talk to the monstrous vines, though it remains unclear if it was a legitimate skill, as the vines were chemically altered.
  • True Blue Femininity: She is feminine and always wears blue.

    Huckleberry Pie

Voiced by: Vincent Tong (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest3_2.png
A friendly, if dense, musician with a serious love of pastries, Huckleberry Pie runs the Huckleberry Pie Berryoke Wagon at the Berryworks.
  • Adaptational Dumbass: This Huckleberry is probably his least intelligent version. He believes random pocket trash is currency just because someone threw it in his guitar case, doesn't know what a wrench is, and is even described In-Universe as a dense individual.
  • Adaptational Job Change: He's a musician, while his previous incarnations were a fisherman (1980s), skateboarder (Classic), and dog caretaker (BBA).
  • Ambiguously Brown: Huck has darker skin, though it's not clear what specific race he's supposed to be.
  • Big Eater: He starts working at the Berryworks mostly so he can eat the sweets sold there, and can barely resist being in the vicinity of pastries without devouring them.
  • Blue Is Heroic: He’s a friendly and kind boy, and always wears blue in his outfits.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: "Deliveryberries" establishes that Huck does deliveries for Strawberry. Despite being so easily distracted that he keeps being late, his friendly and helpful nature leads to him gathering ingredients that Strawberry needs for her next recipes, which is why she keeps having him deliver.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Huck has a very… unique way of looking at the world, to put it simply. Most prominent in his focus episodes, where his quirks often confuse or exasperate the others.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Huck is very good at music, but he's pretty much only good at music. In the episode "Huck's New Job", he works around the Berryworks to stay after Bread Pudding kicks him out, but screws up every task no matter how simple.
  • The Ditz: Huck is fairly dense, even described as such by Strawberry, albiet indirectly.
  • Hidden Depths: In "Who Stole The Pies?", Huckleberry reveals he's the three-time winner of a pie eating contest.
  • Insane Troll Logic: He can fall into this at times.
    • In "Who Stole The Pies", he ate several pies that Strawberry had baked despite a sign reading "Hot pies. Only eat when cool.", because he interpreted it as the pies only being allowed for cool people; Strawberry likes his music and thinks he's cool, therefore he can eat the pies.
    • In “Deliveryberries”, when Caramel Tartufo asks why Huck and Bread were so late with his pie order, Huck says that life is about the journey, so they took the pies across the city so Caramel could taste the journey in each pie.
    • In The Beast of Berry Bog special, he's convinced that wearing a Frightfall costume will make him lose track of his own identity and suffer Death of Personality.
  • Lack of Imagination: In “Huck’s New Job”, Huck briefly works at Blueberry’s ice cream cart, who simply asks him to come up with unique flavors. The best Huck could manage was vanilla ice cream in a cone.
  • Nice Guy: He’s incredibly friendly and nice to everyberry, you’d have to go out of your way to make him angry.
  • The One Guy: For once in this franchise, this is averted, as the series adds Bread Pudding to the main cast.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: He and Blueberry Muffin, due to their shared status as Cloudcuckoolanders and having similar “go with the flow” philosophies. The two are often seen together, with Blueberry usually dancing to Huck’s music.
  • Race Lift: He's white in previous incarnations, but Ambiguously Brown here.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: The Savvy Guy to Strawberry’s Energetic Girl. While Huck isn’t too intelligent, to put it lightly, he’s still fairly street savvy, such as when he helped Strawberry navigate the entire Funnelcake subway system.
  • Second Episode Introduction: Despite being in the theme song, and having his own rap section, he doesn't appear until the 13th episode.
  • Sixth Ranger: He joins the main cast partway through the first season.
  • Street Musician: His debut in “Meet Huckleberry Pie” introduces him as one, playing a song in the Funnelcake System subway station. He drops this when he begins working at the Berryworks.
  • Too Hungry to Be Polite: Nearly every single time he eats something, it's in an extremely messy fashion. Lampshaded and justified in "Who Stole The Pies?" When Lime asks why he eats so messily, he answers that he gained the trait from being the 3-time winner of a pie-eating contest.

    Raspberry Tart

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain (2021-present)
Singing Voice: Shannon Chan-Kent (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_fruitleg_alley_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_0_08.jpeg
Initially introduced as the main villain of Season 1, Raspberry Tart was jealous of Strawberry's business for stealing her customers. She plotted to force her out of the Berryworks, usually accompanied by Bread Pudding and Sour Grapes. However, over time, she and Strawberry would end up finding common ground and become close friends, joining the Berry Besties by the end of Season 1. Raspberry runs the Raspberry Supreme bakery truck at the Berryworks, where she would compete (later collaborate) with Strawberry, who likewise ran a bakery truck.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Her last name is once again Tart, after it was changed to “Torte” back in 2003.
  • Adaptational Villainy: She's normally a Nice Girl in most versions, but this Raspberry was written as an Alpha Bitch. Subverted when she undergoes her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Ageless Birthday Episode: "Strawberry Surprise" is this for her.
  • Alpha Bitch: She styles herself as queen bee of the Berryworks, and is quick to squeeze out any threats to her status. Turns into a Lovable Alpha Bitch once Strawberry grows on her.
  • Always Someone Better: She was originally the top seller of the Berryworks, until Strawberry arrived, started her business and gained much more attention than her.
  • Anti-Hero: She's got a sharp tongue and a bit of a mean streak in Season 1, but more often than not she and Strawberry would find some common ground, eventually leading to a full Heel–Face Turn by the end of the season.
  • Commonality Connection: The primary reason why she dropped her rivalry with Strawberry and befriended her in Berry in the Big City. After spending more and more time together, Raspberry began to realize how ridiculous it was for her to antagonize someone who she had so much in common with.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Raspberry started out as Strawberry's archrival and main competition for her Berryworks business; after spending some time with her and getting to know her more, she eventually warmed up to her. By the end of the first season, she reforms and joins her friendship circle.
  • Foil: She acts as this to Strawberry in Season 1. Both are the only bakers at the Berryworks pursuing a professional career. Strawberry is a Country Mouse, while Raspberry is from the city and comes from a wealthy background. Strawberry shows herself to be very outgoing and friendly, always seeing the best in people and constantly befriending others, while Raspberry sticks to her Terrible Trio with Bread Pudding and Sour Grapes. In "New Year's Wish", Raspberry sings a reprise of Strawberry's Leitmotif song “No Ordinary Berry” while also bringing up their grandparents telling them the same legend, and "Johnnycake Cobbler's Sensational Sweetening Spritz" reveals her to be a fan of Kiki KeyLime, who Strawberry also idolizes. Strawberry and Raspberry also share many similarities in their appearances, and their food trucks likewise mirror each other in design.
  • Freudian Excuse: It's implied that her Alpha Bitch tendencies came from her parents spending little time with her, due to their busy careers. It's also the reason she hated Winterswirl, as her parents were rarely around for the holiday.
  • The Grinch: In "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday", Raspberry is revealed to despise the Winterswirl holiday and how focused people are on trying to make it perfect. By the end of the special, after a pep talk from Cinnamon Swirl, she learns to enjoy the holidays by having fun with her friends.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Raspberry undergoes one in the season 1 finale, "Bake Off", and from Season 2 onwards she's a friend of Strawberry.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Bread Pudding, though it veers more into Vitriolic Best Buds territory at times.
  • Privileged Rival: While Strawberry is a Country Mouse looking to make it big, Raspberry's parents are famous and wealthy bakers. In her debut episode she demonstrates her wealth by buying all of Strawberry’s baked goods.
  • Reformed Bully: For most of Season 1, Raspberry was the main antagonist, constantly attempting to one-up Strawberry or drive her out of the Berryworks. However, by the finale, she and Strawberry end up becoming friends and Raspberry drops her Alpha Bitch tendencies.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She initially inverted this due to playing an antagonistic role, but plays it straight after her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Sixth Ranger: She officially joins the friend group at the end of Season 1.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: She’s much more of a bully than prior incarnations, though she does undergo Character Development and becomes nicer.

    Bread Pudding

Voiced by: Chirag Naik

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bread_pudding_webp.png

The fussy and stuck-up assistant manager of the Berryworks. He initially served as an antagonist alongside his friends Raspberry Tart and Sour Grapes until the Season 1 finale, where he befriended the Berry Besties.

  • Butt-Monkey: Tends to be on the recieving end of a majority of the slapstick in the series, even in episodes where he doesn't play a major role.
  • Caustic Critic: Very hard to please. This aspect of his character mostly fades away when he Took a Level in Kindness.
  • Commonality Connection: He befriends Lime Chiffon and Crepe Suzette due to their mutual love of fashion.
  • The Fashionista: Becomes one of his primary character traits. He's revealed to be a huge fan of Lime Chiffon's fashion designer father, Fluffy Chiffon, to the point where he initially tried to befriend her just to get a limited-edition waistcoat he designed. Eventually he and Lime form a genuine friendship due to their shared love of fashion.
  • Freudian Excuse: In “Bread Pudding’s New BFF”, he reveals that his snobby behavior stems from when he was little. He was shy and clumsy, which got him bullied, and he found it easier to make fun of other berries before they could mock him.
  • Improbable Age: He can't be older than his early teens, yet he supervises a food truck lot. It's likely his mother, manager of the Berryworks, just gave him the job.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: A lot of Bread's self-worth is tied to his power over others. Suspicions that he might lose his assistant manager job are enough to send him into a panic attack.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: He's just as much a fashion enthusiast as Lime, and in "Strawberry Shortcake and the Beast of Berry Bog", he wears a dress as his Fright Fall costume for most of the special.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Once he befriends the berry besties. He's still self-centred and a snob, but he doesn't go out of his way to make any berry miserable.
  • The Klutz: He revealed in "Bread Pudding's New BFF" that he was this in his youth. His present-day self still shows some shades of this, even back in the first episode.
  • Loophole Abuse: Will occasionally bend the rules, either for selfish purposes or to help his friends, like when he classified an oven in a wagon as a cart just so Strawberry can continue working at the Berryworks after the Pieman stole her truck.
  • Out of Focus: Despite being one of the main characters, it's rare for an episode to focus solely on him. Even in musical episodes, not once has he ever been allowed to sing without another character accompanying him.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Is this with Lime Chiffon and Raspberry Tart.
  • Rules Lawyer: He carries around a list of the Berryworks guidelines with him, and is quick to criticize whoever breaks them, occasionally for his own benefit.
    • In "Huck's New Job", Bread fires Huckleberry from the Berryworks because his music annoyed him upon realizing he doesn't own a cart, as the rules explicitly state all vendors need to own a cart to work there. Bread rehires Huck after he gets his "Berry-Oke Wagon".
  • Sixth Ranger: He officially joins the friend group alongside Raspberry Tart and Sour Grapes (kinda) at the end of Season 1.

    Sour Grapes

Voiced by: Meg Roe (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1a50479e_0fa9_440b_830b_4bdc6ff457f7.png
A monotone, emotionless employee at the Berryworks, Sour Grapes is Raspberry Tart's best friend/crony and the Peculiar Purple Pieman's niece.
  • Agent Scully: In "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday", Sour is unconvinced that the holiday icon Cinnamon Swirl really exists, due to the overly fantastical nature of her abilities. Becomes Skeptic No Longer when, ironically, she's the only one to piece together that Cinnamon Swirl was the Cookie Vendor seen throughout the special and introduces her to Blueberry Muffin.
  • Anti-Villain: She worked for Raspberry Tart and Purple Pieman and helped them in their schemes, but she wasn’t actually evil.
  • Beta Bitch: To Raspberry Tart until their Heel–Face Turn. Although she isn't actively mean, she bends to Raspberry Tart's more domineering personality and goes along with the nasty plots.
  • Emotionless Girl: Sour rarely shows any emotion outside of deadpan apathy. She does occasionally crack a smile, but it's a very rare occurrence.
  • Goth: She's the gloomy kind. Best shown when she decorates a Christmas tree black with skull decorations.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She wasn't necessarily evil, but she still worked with the main antagonists of Season 1 and 2. Sour did appear to pull one at the end of Season 1 upon Raspberry's own Heel–Face Turn, but then she began working for The Purple Pieman in Season 2. Sour's Heel–Face Turn wouldn't come until the episode "Sweet and Sour", where she quits working for her uncle and fully joins the Berry Besties.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • “Strawberry Surprise” and “Crushing The Cosplay” reveals she enjoys drawing.
    • “Crushing The Cosplay” reveals that Sour is a huge comics fan, who knows the entire history of Tangerine Smash and Guava Girl.
  • Only Sane Woman: Often had to play this to her uncle, the Peculiar Purple Pieman.
  • Out of Focus: Compared to the rest of the group, Sour Grapes has had the least amount of focus on her character, due to her acting as The Dragon to Raspberry and Purple Pieman in Seasons 1 and 2. Invoked by herself, as she straight up tells the Berry Besties she doesn't like it when a lot of attention is put on her.
  • Sixth Ranger: She officially joins the friend group near the end of Season 2, after pulling a full Heel–Face Turn.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Despite being billed as an antagonist. Sour Grapes is polite and can think nice things about others, but it's hard to see under such an apathetic disposition.

Supporting Characters

    Aunt Praline

Voiced by: Ana Sani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wildbrain_screenshot_praline_2_webp.png

Strawberry's aunt and Big Apple City's chief of staff.

  • Berserk Button: Crickets. If she hears even a single cricket she will go out of her way to get rid of it, to the point of utilizing a grenade-like bug bomb just to try and kill one in her apartment. Praline mentions that it's the primary reason she moved to the city.
  • Cool Aunt: She's always supportive of Strawberry, and donates her old food truck for Strawberry to use when she first arrives. Praline's also had several episodes dedicated to her helping her niece, whether it's getting ready for a Berry Bounty Banquet or recovering from a bad day.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: To the mayor, it’s implied that he’s incredibly incompetent without her assistance.
  • Mobile Kiosk: Back in her younger days, she used to run a food truck called the Praline Dream. It didn't work out, so she gave it to Strawberry Shortcake, who rebranded it the Extraordinary Berry.
  • Official Couple: With Kiki KeyLime.
  • Parental Substitute: Acts as this for Strawberry while she stays in Big Apple City, as Strawberry's parents still live in Berryville.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: The end of the episode “Aunt Praline’s Sweetie Pie”, reveals she’s attracted to women, as her date is Kiki KeyLime.

  • Competition Freak: Like Orange Blossom, the family is incredibly competitive and intense, but they are good sports.
  • Flat Character: Compared to the other families, they have the least amount of individual focus.
  • Graceful Loser: When Blueberry Muffin's family wins the Berry Bounty Bolt, the family is actually ecstatic they lost, as they haven't had competiton like that in years.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Cherry Crisp is this in "Orange's Slumber Party", seen with her phone in every scene she appears in,

  • Straight Gay: Lime Pops isn't dramatic and flamboyant like his husband, and acts fairly reserved.

Lemon Meringue's Dad

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_slumber_party_at_lemons_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_0_56.jpeg
Lemon Drop
Lemon Drop, a bumbling but well-meaning dad who tries to be there for his daughter, but often embarrasses her in the process.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Lemon Meringue considers her father this, from calling her "Lemon Zest" in front of all her friends, to wearing a turkey costume to a marathon competition that both are participating in.
  • Bumbling Dad: Lemon Drop is clumsy and embarrassing.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Lemon Meringue is a feelings-averse Mad Scientist, while her father is more open about feelings and shows no interest in inventing outside of supporting his daughter's interests.
  • Missing Mom: Lemon Meringue's mother is absent from the series.

Blueberry Muffin's Family

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_berry_bounty_bolt_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_1_27.jpeg

  • Sibling Rivalry: Blueberry has one with her brother, with the two constantly fighting and rarely acting nice towards each other.

Bread Pudding's Mom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled1424_20220918194835_webp.png
Figgy Pudding and her dog, Creampuff
Figgy Pudding, the successful owner of several popular tourist destinations, including the Berryworks. In Season 3 she gives ownership of the Berryworks to Crabapple Jam.
  • The Inspector Is Coming: Figgy Pudding's introduction causes the Berryworks employees to panic and rush to prepare.
  • Eating Pet Food: Figgy Pudding, upon seeing her pet dog, Creampuff, eating and enjoying a cupcake made by Strawberry, decides to eat some of it as well. It should be noted that the cupcake was covered in pet food, though it's possible she was unaware of the fact.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She treats Bread more like an employee than a son at times, but she does love him. When she was going to fire Bread from the Berryworks for his unsatisfactory work managing the location, Strawberry manages to convince her otherwise by telling her he made a ton of friends there, at which point she decides it's in Bread's best interest to let him stay.

  • Invisible Parents: Raspberry Tart's parents are only mentioned three times and never appear onscreen due to being too busy with their jobs.

    The Cakenator

Voiced by: Ana Sani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cakeanator_aka_robo_strawberry_png_webp.png

A robot created by Lemon Meringue to help Strawberry Shortcake's business. Is occasionally used by Lemon Meringue as a robotic assistant.

  • The Bus Came Back: "Hot, Fresh, and Trending" has the Cakenator (presumably the 7th version) fully return outside of the Running Gag, making occasional reappearances afterward, and it's even managed to not explode!
  • Gone Horribly Right: The Cakenator 6 does help Strawberry Shortcake with her food truck, but her quick and perfect baking skills end up outshining Strawberry and nearly cuts her out of her business altogether.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Because it was made to bake recipes perfectly, it doesn’t understand the idea that she’ll have to adjust them to the customer’s preferences. When Strawberry tries explaining this, it’s unable to process the concept and explodes.
  • Hand Blast: Her hands have repulsor blasters built-in, though its intended purpose is for quickly baking treats.
  • Hat of Flight: The Cakenator 4 and 7 have propellor blades built into their beanie, enabling them to fly.
  • Machine Monotone: Talks like this, due to being a robot.
  • Made of Explodium: Like most of Lemon’s inventions, the Cakenator is prone to exploding randomly.
  • The Perfectionist: The Cakenator 6’s Fatal Flaw, she always bakes pastries exactly as they’re listed and won’t deviate from the recipe, even if a change is requested. She is enraged/confused when she catches Strawberry Shortcake giving Huckleberry Pie a berry-less pie and someone else's treat extra powdered sugar.
Cakenator 6: "Extra ingredient does not compute! Imperfect item does not compute!"
  • Robot Me: She is one of Strawberry Shortcake, having the same Youthful Freckles and outfit, but is very obviously robotic, with a puppet-like mouth, grey metal "skin", and built-in gagetry. Justified as Lemon intentionally modeled the Cakenator after Strawberry, so it would literally feel like there's two of her working together.
  • Running Gag: The fourth Cakenator’s upper half, which sprouted a propeller and flew away, occasionally appears around the Berryworks. After "All About Lemon" the gag has been retired, and "Hot, Fresh, and Trending" has the Cakenator return in full.
  • Speaks in Binary: Well, sings in binary. In "Strawberry's Friendship Party", the Cakenator attends the titular party in Lemon's place (as she was too busy to go herself) and starts singing a karaoke song in binary.
  • Swiss-Army Appendage: Has built-in whiskers and repulsor blasters in her hands.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The Cakenator 6 is unable to comprehend the concept of love, which results in her death.
  • We Have Reserves: No matter how many times the Cakenator explodes, Lemon Meringue will always have another version ready.
  • You Are Number 6: Lemon introduces her as the Cakenator 6, because the first five exploded.

    Kiki KeyLime

Voiced by: Crystal Balint

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1_strawberry_shortcake_bake_off_part_two_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_0_02.jpeg

A celebrity chef who hosts Bite of the City, a cooking competition TV show.

  • Cooking Show: Her show, Bite of the City, is primarily a cooking competition, but it has occasionally strayed from that, acting as a news program in "Mission Unfrostable" and having a talk show setup in "Crabapple Jam".
  • Haute Cuisine Is Weird: When ordering from Strawberry's food truck Kiki asks for ladyfingers, but then requests organic hand-pressed keylime juice, Costa Rica coffee beans that have been sung to, and mascarpone cheese be added.
  • The Hero's Idol: Kiki is one of Strawberry's biggest inspirations, and the reason she moved to Big Apple City to pursue a baking career.
  • Loved by All: Absolutely no one has anything bad to say about Kiki, not even Jerkass characters like Purple Pieman.
  • Nice Girl: Is kind to everyone, and is the only one of Strawberry's baking idols who never antagonizes her at any point.
  • Official Couple: With Aunt Praline.
  • Punny Name: Her show, Bite of the City, is a play on the phrase “taking a bite out of the big apple”, which means to explore New York and become familiar with its sights.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: The end of “Aunt Praline’s Sweetie Pie” reveals that Kiki was Praline’s date.

    Genoise La Creme

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/genoise_la_creme_png_webp.png

The food critic for the Big Apple City Galette, a positive review from her is highly sought after and hard to get.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: After her disastrous day at the Berryworks caused by Raspberry Tart's attempts to impress her, Strawberry simply being nice and giving her a free cake pop to cheer her up makes her give Strawberry and the Berryworks a positive review.
  • Brick Joke: In the beginning of her debut episode, Strawberry makes a pun on "cake pops", holding up several to punctuate her joke. At the end, Strawberry gives on the cake pops to Genoise, which turns out to be so delicious it makes her smile and give Strawberry a positive review.
  • Caustic Critic: Downplayed, despite her being a Perpetual Frowner and being known for having career-ending critiques, she hasn't actually been shown giving a negative review.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Her first appearance is punctuated by this.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Rarely seen smiling.

     Caramela Éclair

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_fruitleg_alley_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_3_54.jpeg

The daughter of Caramel Tartufo, she helps her father run the shady underground market known as Fruitleg Alley.

  • Christmas Carolers: In “A Holiday Your Way”, Caramela is briefly seen caroling with a bunch of other berries.
  • Everything's Louder with Bagpipes: In “The Big Apple City All-Skate Competition”, Caramela declares that she doesn’t want to rollerskate, and wants to play the bagpipes. Becomes a Brick Joke later, during the Berrycake Blossom’s routine, their music briefly switches to Scottish bagpipes, which prompts Caramela to jump in and blast her own.
  • Friend in the Black Market: Is apparently a friend of Huckleberry, as he's the one who introduces her to Strawberry, Raspberry, and Orange when they need to find soursop fruits out of season.
  • Joisey: Talks with a stereotypical Jersey accent.
  • Mafia Princess: Her father is the crumbfather of Fruitleg Alley, and she shows no issue with the shadier aspects of the business. In “Mission Unfrostable” she even has her father and his underlings threaten the Purple Pieman into giving them a month’s supply of free mini-pies.
  • Rollerblade Good: Is occasionally seen at the Starfruit Express rollerskating rink.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Is introduced by Huckleberry Pie as one of his friends, but the two rarely appear onscreen together afterward.

     Caramel Tartufo

Voiced by: Brian Drummond

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/caramel_tartufo_webp.png

The crumbfather of Fruitleg Alley, and the father of Caramela Eclair.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: When Strawberry manages to correctly bake his mother's banana bread recipe, he immediately grants her and her friends free access to Fruitleg Alley as honored guests.
  • The Don: Caramel’s considered an intimidating figure in Big Apple City, running an infamous black market that has connections to multiple locations. His appearance and accent even bear a strong resemblance to Don Vito Corleone.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Caramel cherishes his late mother, to the point where he's enraged when someone incorrectly bakes her fluffy banana bread recipe.
  • Expy: Of Don Vito Corleone from The Godfather.
  • The Mafia: He's all but stated to be a mobster.
  • Mumbling Brando: Talks like this since he’s a reference to The Godfather.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Is rarely seen smiling. The one time he’s shown smiling is when Strawberry correctly bakes the recipe for his mother’s banana bread.

  • Friendly Shopkeeper: Mangosteen runs a fruit stand and is always nice to his customers.
  • Mobile Kiosk: He runs a fruit stand in Big Apple City.
  • Straight Gay: In "Will You Be My Lemon-Tine" Mangosteen is seen sitting next to and giving a valentine to a male jogger, both with affectionate looks on their faces, however it was not stated outright if he was gay at the time. The episode “The House On Scary Berry Lane” would later confirm that the two are an engaged couple.

    Lucky Spoon

Voiced by: Brian Drummond

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_strawberry_bake_fail_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_2_21_3.jpeg

An imagined living version of Strawberry's lucky spoon who only appears in her dreams.

  • Southern Gentleman: Is a nice and courteous fellow who has a Southern accent for some reason. It's possible that Strawberry imagines him having one due to her being from the countryside
  • Spirit Advisor: Acts as one to Strawberry, such as in "Strawberry Bake Fail", when he imparts the aesop that it's okay that she isn't good at making macarons instantly, but what matters is that she keeps trying until she succeeds.

    Banoffee

Voiced by: Felicia Bonée

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/untitled1407_20220910151759_webp.png

A famous trans woman fashion model in Big Apple City.

  • Ink-Suit Actor: She’s heavily based on her voice actor, Felicia Bonée, who is also a transgender model.
  • Loved by All: She's regarded positively by everyone. Even when Purple Pieman destroys her dress before the Mint Gala, it's only to slight Fluffy Chiffon rather than her.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: The only times she's shown modelling is in her debut episode, and making a cameo on fashion magazine covers. Most of the time she's shown doing rather mundane things, like roller-skating at Starfruit Express.
  • Queer Colors: All of her clothes feature the colors of the transgender flag in some capacity. Invoked with her Mint Gala dresses, both prominently featuring the colors so Banoffee can show how much pride she has in her identity.
  • Rollerblade Good: Is regularly seen at the Starfruit Express rollerskating rink.

  • Black and Nerdy: He becomes this, due to his Race Lift.

  • Nerdy Nasalness: Has a slight hint of this in his voice.
  • Race Lift: Is black in Berry in the Big City despite being white elsewhere.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Occasionally peppers his speech with this. His first line is even “A very good rotation on Earth’s axis to you.” rather than a simple hello.
  • Sweet Tooth: Has a bit of this, such as when he devoured an entire cake in seconds in his debut.

    Crepe Suzette

Voiced by: Bethany Brown (2022-present)

  • Adaptational Nationality: In prior series she lived in Pearis. This Crepe, however, lives in Big Apple City.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Sherry Bobbleberry in the 2003 series is a clumsy, socially awkward yet kind fairy who only wants to help others. Her 2022 incarnation, however, is a rude inconsiderate jerk who ditches her bandmates when they simply ask that she be more involved with their music rehearsals.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Sherry Bobbleberry is a regular human, rather than a fairy.
  • It's All About Me: She’s very egotistical. Even when she was with the band, she was always the only/most prominent member on the posters for their band, with the others usually being not present or in a smaller spot.
  • Narcissist: She’s incredibly full of herself, believing she needs no music practice and that she’s the sole reason for the band’s success.
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor: In Berry in the Big City, Sherry puts on a happy and cheerful facade in public, but in private she's an egotistical jerk to her bandmates.

    Cherry Jam

Voiced by: Aloma Steele (2022-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bitbc_new_cherry_jam_webp.png
The shy guitarist/songwriter for the band "Sherry Bobbleberry and the Berry Fairies", who becomes the lead singer when Sherry quits.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Cherry appears to still be Asian, but she now has darker skin.
  • Ascended Extra: In-Universe. Cherry was just the guitarist at first, but then became the face of the band after Sherry Bobbleberry quit and she had to step up as singer.
  • Demoted to Extra: Was a main cast member in her origin series, but is only a side character here.
  • "Gaining Confidence" Song: Her first song acts as this, as she overcomes her fears of singing in front of a crowd.
  • Lead Singer Plays Lead Guitar: After Sherry Bobbleberry quits, Cherry Jam becomes both the lead singer and guitarist.
  • Punny Name: Her last name is "Jam". As in, Jam session, since she's a musician.

    Raisin Cane

Voiced by: Justin Saint (2022-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest17_2.png
The friendly non-binary drummer for the band Sherry Bobbleberry and the Berry Fairies (later known as The Cherry Jam Band).
  • Adaptational Job Change: Raisin Cane’s previous incarnation was a restaurant critic. Here, they’re a drummer.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Is non-binary, while their previous incarnations were female.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Raisin isn’t a villain at all, and is rather kind compared to their previous incarnations. They’re supportive of Cherry Jam when she doubts her singing abilities, and tells off Sherry when she's rude to the other band members.
  • Race Lift: Portrayed as white in their prior incarnations, but this Raisin is Asian.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Raisin Cane never even interacts with Sour Grapes, when previous versions had them be Sour's niece or cousin.

    Peppermint Fizz

Voiced by: Bethany Brown (2022-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_jamming_with_cherry_jam_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_0_43.jpeg
The friendly bassist of the famous band "Sherry Bobbleberry and the Berry Fairies" (later known as the Cherry Jam Band).
  • Adaptational Nice Girl: Her 2021 incarnation is nicer than her previous version, showing no signs of arrogance or negativity.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Due to being from different series, Peppermint never met Cherry Jam or Raisin Cane, and wasn’t friends with Sherry Bobbleberry. This Peppermint, however, is friends with all of them, at least until Sherry quit the band.
  • Demoted to Extra: Was fairly prominent in the 2003 series, but her and the Cherry Jam Band are just supporting characters in Berry in the Big City.
  • Nice Girl: Unlike her original incarnation, Peppermint is much kinder.
  • Race Lift: This incarnation is black, when her original incarnation was white.
  • Team Member in the Adaptation: Peppermint is part of the Berry Fairies, when they were originally unconnected.
  • Uniformity Exception: She’s the only member of her band to have red as her primary color rather than black.

Minor, One-Off, and Deceased Characters

    Big Apple City Citizens

In General

The people of Big Apple City, they generally remain in the background to populate scenes. Many appear around the Berryworks as customers.

  • Ascended Extra: On very rare occasions, a background berry will be given a name and A Day in the Limelight episode.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Several extras have gotten an episode that features them in a prominent role.
  • Flashy Protagonists, Bland Extras: The Berry Besties and other named characters all have appearances that somewhat reflect the fruit/pastry they're based on, while the extras look like normal people with no fruit/pastry theming whatsoever.
  • Ghost Extras: Most of them don't interact with the main cast unless they're ordering from their carts.
  • Living Prop: They generally stand around the city or the Berryworks to make it look less crowded.
  • Palette Swap: Due to Only Six Faces being in effect, this is done to make crowds of berries appear more diverse.
  • Recurring Extra: Many notable extras who aren't Palette Swaps can be seen in various episodes.

Notable Extras

Strawberry Shortcake Lookalike/Bodybuilder Berry

Voiced by: Vincent Tong

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_orange_blossoms_special_workout_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_3_14.jpeg

A recurring background character, who the Berry Besties will occasionally mistake for Strawberry Shortcake.

  • Hidden Depths: “Donuts and Drawbridges” reveals that he enjoys playing D&D.
  • Hunk: One of his most prominent design traits is his enormous muscular arms.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Unlike other unique background characters like Peach Trifle or Buttermilk Beignet, he's only been referred to as "Bodybuilder Berry". Word of God has said that they've referred to him as "Strawberry Beefcake", however.
  • Running Gag: The fact that he has a somewhat similar appearance to Strawberry leads to her friends mistaking him for her when viewed from behind.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: In "Meet Huckleberry Pie", had Lime Chiffon not mistaken him for Strawberry Shortcake and accidentally get separated from her, then Strawberry likely never would've met Huckleberry Pie.

Peach Trifle

Voiced by: Miranda Edwards (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest8_2.png
A professional party planner who hosts the annual Fall Ball (later Fright Fall Fright-tacular), and a frequent customer at the Berryworks.
  • Informed Ability: In the episode "Fright Fall" Peach Trifle claims to be the greatest party planner in Big Apple City. Cut to most of her guests looking noticeably bored until Strawberry livens things up.
  • Shoddy Shindig: Peach Trifle's Fall Ball turns out to be incredibly boring and dull for everyone, until Strawberry swoops in with a catchy musical number and livens things up, leading Trifle to retire the Fall Ball and turn it into the much more fun Fright Fall Fright-Tacular.

Buttermilk Beignet

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/waiting_for_genoise_berry_in_the_big_city_strawberry_shortcake_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_1_10.jpeg

A grandmother who frequents the Berryworks.

  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: Her outfit is mocked by Raspberry Tart and Bread Pudding in "Waiting for Genoise", with both calling her clothes tacky.
  • Mistaken for Special Guest: Raspberry Tart exploits Strawberry not knowing what food critic Genoise La Creme looks like by claiming Buttermilk is Genoise, so Strawberry will be unable to cater to the real Genoise.
  • Nice Girl: Is incredibly friendly during her A Day in the Limelight episode.

Bobby Bananabee

Voiced by: Sam Darkoh

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_the_house_on_scary_berry_lane_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_3_36.jpeg

Mr. Mangosteen's fiance, who's usually seen running odd jobs around Big Apple City.

  • Mistaken for Undead: In "The House on Scary Berry Lane", his sore throat making him sound monstrous and his gamer rage at Berry Brothers Smash causes Strawberry, Raspberry, and Blueberry to mistake him for a monster.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: His appearances usually consist of him working at different jobs, like as a construction worker or the referee for the Berry Bounty Bolt.
  • Straight Gay: The only indications he's gay is that he spends a lot of time with Mr. Mangosteen, and being called his fiance in "The House on Scary Berry Lane".
  • Those Two Guys: Becomes this with Mr. Mangosteen, the two usually seen on dates or spending time together at the Berryworks.
  • Vocal Dissonance: In "The House on Scary Berry Lane", the dust in his new house gives him a sore throat, which makes him sound like a roaring monster. Averted otherwise, as he has a fairly normal voice.

Hippy Berry

Voiced by: Vincent Tong

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_lemonlime_back_in_time_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_1_39.jpeg

A hippy, usually seen teaching a meditation or yoga class in Golden Delicious Park, or as a customer at the berryworks.

  • Disproportionate Retribution: In "Lemon Lime Back in Time", his attempts at ordering lemonade get him banned from the All Time Lime juice cart because they only serve lime enthusiasts, and then blasted away with a hose of lemonade by Lemon Tort for no reason.
  • Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes: As part of his appearance as a hippy, his eyes are always half-closed.
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: He's literally called "Hippy Berry", combined with his long hair and beard, attire, and speaking with a calm duuude voice.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He's only known as "Hippy Berry", rather than having an actual name.

Berry Mary

Voiced by: Andrea Libman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_the_cakenator_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_3_19.jpeg
No, seriously, who are you?
A background character who got a speaking line in "The Cakenator". She likes extra powdered sugar on her apple fritters. That's all we got.
  • All There in the Script: Her name is listed in the credits of "The Cakenator".
  • Flat Character: She shows up and complains the Cakenator 6 won't put extra powdered sugar on her fritter, which is the most plot-revelance she's ever had in the show.
  • Palette Swap: She's a recolor of the adult woman extras.
  • Suddenly Voiced: In "The Cakenator", she gets to say a line. She is otherwise just another silent background extra.

Spicy Crust

Voiced by: Vincent Tong

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/no_ordinary_berry_berry_in_the_big_city_strawberry_shortcake_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_2_14.jpeg

A hot dog vendor and pizza cook at the Starfruit Express rollerskating rink who specializes in spicy foods.

  • Angry Chef: In "The Super Spicy Pizza", he's known for being mean and angry when someone asks for non-spicy pizza. He drops this after learning how to make non-spicy pizza and befriending the Berry Besties.
  • Berserk Button: Being asked to serve a non-spicy pizza, or trying to get more than one spicy pizza slice. He drops this after the Berry Besties teach him how to make non-spicy pizza.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: As probably made clear by now, he was only capable of making spicy pizza until the Berry Besties taught him how to make different kinds.
  • Freudian Excuse: The reason why he gets angry when someone asks him for non-spicy pizza is because he only knew how to make spicy foods, until Strawberry taught him how to make different pizza types.
  • Mobile Kiosk: Used to run a hot dog stand. In season 2, he was replaced by a Palette Swap and in Season 3 he now runs the Spicy Pizza Stand in Starfruit Express.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: His first few appearances he was a hot dog vendor, but after his A Day in the Limelight episode he's now the owner of a pizza stand in a rollerskating rink.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Is on the recieving end of one by Strawberry Shortcake for being unaccomodating to his customers needs. This causes him to have a Heel–Face Turn and begin serving non-spicy pizza.

    Grandberry Jam
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/granberryjam.jpg

Strawberry Shortcake's grandmother. She encouraged Strawberry to pursue a baking career.

  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Well, grandparent, but still. Jam was said to be actively supportive of Strawberry's baking, even passing down her recipes, and would always impart words of encouragement and advice on her.
  • Mythology Gag: Grandberry Jam is dressed in a similar outfit to the original Strawberry Shortcake.
  • Posthumous Character: Has passed away at some point. It's implied it happened during the events of the series, as Strawberry refers to Jam in the present tense in "New Year's Wish", but in "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday" she is talked about in the past tense by Aunt Praline and Strawberry, though it could also just be a Retcon.

    J. Quincy Cupcake

Voiced by: Ian Hanlin (pre-recorded message)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jay_quincy_portrait_webp.png
A portrait of J. Quincy Cupcake, alongside his wife Henrietta Cupcake.

The deceased founder of the Berryworks, back when it was an ordinary cupcake factory. J. Quincy established his cupcake factory near an apple orchard, which became the small town of Apple Grove, and eventually grew into Big Apple City.

  • Death Trap: Turned his office into one in the event a thief tried to steal his secret recipes, if the offender fails to escape (the solution is to bake a cupcake and place it on a scale) in three attempts, then the room seals shut forever.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Outfitted the Berryworks with secret rooms and traps, including the entrance to his office, hidden behind a painting with a secret lever (his right hand holding a whisk).
  • Family Business: He ran his cupcake factory alongside his wife, Henrietta Cupcake, whose cupcake recipes inspired him to start his business.
  • Our Founder: He has a statue outside of the Berryworks.
  • The Perfectionist: Blueberry mentioned him being one, painstakingly checking every cupcake he made for even the tiniest blemish until it drove him mad.
  • Posthumous Character: Has long since passed before the events of Berry in the Big City.
  • Sanity Slippage: J. Quincy suffered this one day, and it is implied to have lead to his death.
  • Secret Test of Character: The above-mentioned Death Trap is one. If the offender is a true baker like him, and they manage to solve his test, then they are given access to his Crystal Cupcake, which contains all the recipes he created.
  • Walking the Earth: The tale surrounding his demise claims that his spirit wanders around the Berryworks.

    Mayor Molasses
The mayor of Big Apple City.
Aunt Praline: (exhausted) Work at city hall was brutal! I’m as beat as the mayor in today’s polls.
  • The Ghost: Is mentioned several times by Aunt Praline, but has yet to appear onscreen.
  • Mayor Pain: Is implied to be incredibly incompetent.
  • Meaningful Name: Judging by how Praline's describes him, the Mayor is about as quick as trickling molasses.

    Granola Crunch

Voiced by: Shannon Chan-Kent

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_granola_crunch_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_3_48.jpeg

Caretaker of Big Apple City's Lean-Green Community Garden.

  • Control Freak: Downplayed, as she's not being actively demeaning to others, but she does take over the assigned tasks of the Berry Besties when she thinks they're doing it incorrectly.
  • Granola Girl: Literally. In her debut episode she's shown to be an environmentalist and actively protests Purple Pieman's plans to demolish the Lean-Green Garden to build a frozen pie warehouse.
  • The Perfectionist: As part of her Control Freak tendency, she does all the gardening by herself because she's worried other berries will mess it up.

    Tangerine Smash and Guava Girl
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_super_berry_berry_in_the_big_city_superhero_cartoons_youtube_0_0_29.jpeg

Popular fictional superheroes and the main characters of Orange Blossom's favorite comic book series, "The Terrific Tales of Tangerine Smash".

  • Clark Kenting: Discussed. Lime Chiffon asks how Tangerine Smash's alter-ego, Tangerine Drizzle, can be an effective disguise when there's little difference in appearance aside from glasses. Orange Blossom justifies it by stating that Tangerine's mannerisms change whenever she switches between her superhero and civilian identities.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: Guava Girl has one in Legume Lass.
  • Expy: Tangerine Smash is one to Superman, being a popular superhero with flight, super-strength, and a mild-mannered reporter alter-ego. Guava Girl might be one to Robin, being a sidekick with a utility belt.
  • Informed Attribute: Lime Chiffon says that Tangerine Smash wears a mask in her superhero outfit, but every time her face is shown she does not feature a mask at all.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Lampshaded by Lime Chiffon, who questions how wearing only glasses can disguise Tangerine's appearance.
  • Rogues Gallery: Several of their villains have been mentioned: NightMango, Doctor Weirdo, and Legume Lass.
  • Secret Identity: Tangerine Smash has one as Tangerine Drizzle.
  • Sidekick: Guava Girl acts as one to Tangerine Smash.
  • Shout-Out: In Superberry and Lucky Berry, Tangerine Smash comic covers are shown paying homage to the covers of The Dark Knight Returns and Action Comics #1.
  • Show Within a Show: They only exist as comic book and movie characters.
  • Utility Belt: Guava Girl wears one, containing multiple gadgets to help her and Tangerine Smash in any situation.

    Mysterious Narrator/Sun

Voiced by: Brian Drummond (2022)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_the_strange_nightmare_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_2_14.jpeg
The narrator who guides Strawberry through her nightmare, he’s a new incarnation of the “Mr. Sun” character from the original 1980s series.
  • Demoted to Extra: Was fairly present in the original series, but only makes one appearance in Berry in the Big City in a dream sequence.

    Apple Byte

Voiced by: Alex Einstein (InquisitorMaster)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apple_byte_webp.png

A video game designer, who appears in the Season 2 finale to get baking info from Strawberry for her newest game.

Peanut Butter Crisp and Jelly Roll

Voiced by: Darius Willis (PB), Tabitha St. Germain (Jelly)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_the_battle_of_blueberrys_slumber_party_berry_in_the_big_city_youtube_0_1_52.jpeg
Jelly Roll (left), Peanut Butter Crisp (right)
Everything Bagel's friends, who are just as obnoxious as he is.
  • Ascended Extra: Were originally just two background kid extras. "The Battle of Blueberry's Slumber Party" gives them names, voices, and establishes they're friends with Everything Bagel.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "The Battle of Blueberry's Slumber Party" serves as this for them.
  • The Bully: In "A Holiday Your Way", they laugh at and make fun of Honeydew Sorbet's snowman for looking weird. They do apologize at the end, though.
  • Two Guys and a Girl: They form this with Everything Bagel.

    Candy Corn

Voiced by: Odessa Rojen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/candy_corn_webp.png

A berry from Niblets Hollow who recently moved to Big Apple City. Her uncle runs the Fright Fall Fun Fair, where she works as the mascot, Corny the Cob.

    Crusty Muffin

Voiced by: Alvin Sanders

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crusty_muffin_webp.png

The old and intimidating owner of the Fright Fall Fun Fair.

  • Grumpy Old Man: Is often seen frowning, with many things getting on his nerves during the fair, sometimes to the point where he wonders if closing the fair would be the best option for him.
  • Scary Black Man: Zig-zagged. He's considered this In-Universe, with a simple stare being enough to intimidate others. Crusty even exploits this to convince unwanted visitors to leave the fair, but he's usually a lot more friendly and welcoming to fair attendees and his niece.

    Cookie Vendor (Unmarked Spoilers

Voiced by: Laara Sadiq

As the Cookie Vendor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cinnamon_swirl_webp.png
As Cinnamon Swirl

A friendly baker who always happens show up when she needs to. Her true identity is Cinnamon Swirl, who goes around the world to deliver presents to berries everywhere for the Winterswirl holiday.

  • A Wizard Did It: When Sour Grapes asks her about how she can do all the things she's known for, Cinnamon replies with "Magic." before Sour can even get through her question.
  • Christmas Elves: In "The Magic is You", Lemon Meringue brings up that she has an entire team of Berrykins help her bake the treats she delivers on Winterswirl's Eve.
  • Gorgeous Garment Generation: At the end of the special, Cinnamon Swirl uses her magic to give the Berry Besties stylish dresses*, tuxedos*, and hairstyles for their Winterswirl tree lighting ceremony.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: She makes no secret about her true identity being Cinnamon Swirl. Lampshaded by herself, pointing out that she left several clues to her true identity.
  • Pseudo-Santa: She serves as the Berry in the Big City series equivalent to Santa Claus.
  • Santa's Existence Clause: In "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday", Sour Grapes doesn't belive Cinnamon Swirl exists, but near the end of the special she's the only one of the main cast to piece together that Cinnamon Swirl is the Cookie Vendor.
  • Walking Spoiler: Hard to talk about her without bringing up her true identity.

Animals

    Custard

Voiced by: Ana Sani (2021-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/custard2021.jpg

Strawberry Shortcake’s pet cat.

  • Ascended Extra: Compared to her barely relevant prior incarnation, this Custard gets fairly prominent attention, with several episodes focusing on her and the other Berryworks pets.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: Her Berry in the Big City incarnation is this from time to time. She's shown the ability to hold objects with her paws, beat people at checkers, skateboard, and she can communicate with the other Berryworks pets despite none of them being the same species.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: She is a cat but still a part of the fun on Strawberry's adventures.

    Pupcake

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain (2021-Present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pupcake2021.jpg

Orange Blossom's pet dog.

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: He started as Huck's pet, then became Strawberry's in 2003 and 2009, and is currently Orange Blossom's pet in this series.
  • Mythology Gag: His design in Berry in the Big City bears a strong resemblance to the 2009 incarnation of Marmalade, who was Orange Blossom's pet dog in Berry Bitty Adventures.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: His 2021 incarnation. Downplayed compared to the other Berryworks pets, as he usually acts like a normal dog, but he does have some moments. Like playing poker, or doing a TikTaco dance.
  • Precious Puppy: As always, he's an adorably dog who tags along with the Berry Besties in their day-to-day adventures.
  • Punny Name: His name is a portmanteau of "puppy" and "cupcake".
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Tom-tom the dog, Huckleberry's pet, becomes this for Pupcake.

    Cheesecake

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain (2021)

Blueberry Muffin's pet mouse.

  • Civilized Animal: The 2021 is the most prominent example of all the Berryworks pets. She basically acts as an assistant to Blueberry Muffin while running the Dreamery Creamery, complete with a miniature clipboard.
  • Nice Mice: Every version counts as this, due to being the pet mouse of one of the main characters.
  • Nonverbal Miscommunication: In "It's My Purr-ty" of the 2021 series, when Cheesecake is trying to communicate the word "birthday" to Blueberry Muffin, she interprets it as "Earth Day".
  • Only Sane Man: The 2021 version whenever she's with Blueberry Muffin.

    Parfait

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain (2021)

Lime Chiffon's pet parrot.

  • Feather Fingers: 2021 Parfait does this from time to time, using his wings in place of proper arms. The most prominent example is in "The Spec-taco-ular Pets" when he's holding a taco with his wings.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: Like the other Berryworks pets in Berry in the Big City, though unlike them he can actually talk with their owners due to being a parrot.
  • Polly Wants a Microphone: Downplayed in ''Berry in the Big City". Parfait can speak on his own, but he can only say one word at a time.
  • Uncatty Resemblance: The plumage surrounding his eyes is shaped like square glasses, matching his owner.

    Frappe
Lemon Meringue's pet frog.
  • Multipurpose Tongue: 2021 Frappe uses his tongue like this, whenever the Berryworks pets do a Team Hand-Stack, or when the pets need him to grab something from far away.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: Only barely qualifies as he usually acts as a normal frog most of the time. He can clearly communicate with the other pets, and very rarely has a moment of thought, like his Imagine Spot of going to a spa in "Go For The Goldenberry".

    Red Hot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meet_huckleberry_pie_berry_in_the_big_city_strawberry_shortcake_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_0_43.jpeg

Huckleberry Pie's pet ferret.

  • Out of Focus: Compared to the other pets, Red Hot makes the least amount of appearances, and is often left out of pet-centric episodes entirely.
  • Running Gag: In his debut episode alongside Huckleberry, characters would mistake his species as a rat, to which Huck or Strawberry would clarify with "Ferret, actually."
    Crow
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_the_case_of_the_missing_spoon_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_0_01.jpeg

A crow trained by Purple Pieman to steal Strawberry Shortcake's lucky spoon in an attempt to frame her friends. They were disowned by the Pieman after the plan failed, and adopted by Sour Grapes.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Their gender isn't clarified in their debut.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Despite being set up as becoming Sour Grapes' pet, they have yet to appear aside from a quick cameo in "Let The Good Times Roll".
  • Mythology Gag: Is a crow who helped the Purple Pieman with his evil scheme, similar to the Berry Birds from prior series.

    Creampuff
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_figgy_pudding_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_1_46_8.jpeg

Figgy Pudding's pet dog. She acts as a taste-tester whenever Figgy performs an inspection on her businesses.

  • Canine Companion: Acts as one to Figgy Pudding, accompanying her on her inspections.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Is a small and nonthreatening dog named Creampuff, yet is treated as The Dreaded by everyone in the Berryworks.
  • Mister Muffykins: Is considered The Dreaded by the Berryworks employees and has ridiculously high food standards, to the point where she doesn't even eat the food presented to her, instead knocking them over, ignoring, or even outright attacking them.
  • Mundane Solution: The Berryworks vendors present her with extravagant desserts which would probably impress a human critic, but a dog just cares about what tastes good. As such, Strawberry just putting pet food in a cupcake is enough to win her over.

    Rat
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_a_berry_perfect_kind_of_day_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_0_53.jpeg

A street rat that appears around Big Apple City, usually with a piece of food.

  • Ambiguous Gender: His gender wasn’t specified until “Strawberry’s Perfect Present” revealed he was male.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: Has been shown using a spatula, showering under a leaky water faucet, and riding the subway.
  • Recurring Extra: One of the few non-pet animals to make several appearances across the series.

    Ostrich
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_strawberry_and_the_gigantic_cake_cartoons_for_kids_season_3_youtube_0_2_34.jpeg

An ostrich that roams the streets of Big Apple City.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Their gender isn't specified in their appearances.
  • Bit Character: Their appearances are usually for the sake of Rule of Funny, due to the absurdity of an ostrich of all things appearing in the middle of a city.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Why is an ostrich on the streets of a city rather than somewhere like a zoo? Who knows!
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Every time they appear, it's rarely dwelled upon aside from a look or statement of confusion.

Villains

     The Mean Berries
The main villains of Season 1, consisting of Raspberry Tart, Bread Pudding, and Sour Grapes. Their main goal was to drive Strawberry out of the Berryworks. All three reformed by the end of Season 1 and joined the main cast.

    The Peculiar Purple Pieman

Voiced by: Ian Hanlin (2022-present)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_the_big_foam_disaster_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_girls_youtube_0_1_58.jpeg
The main villain of Season 2, the Peculiar Purple Pieman is a famous, successful, and greedy baker who tries to sabotage Strawberry Shortcake to avoid her becoming a competitor.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: He has a purple buzzcut, when prior incarnations had frazzled white hair or a dark blue manbun.
  • Adapted Out: The “of Porcupine Peak” part of his name is removed, and he’s simply known as The Peculiar Purple Pieman.
  • Added Alliterative Appeal: The Peculiar Purple Pieman.
  • Ambition Is Evil: The Pieman will gladly turn to dirty tricks to stay the greatest baker around.
  • Bad Boss: He's very demanding and bossy to Sour Grapes, his niece/sole employee at the Berryworks Purple Pieshop, and outright abandons her when she chooses the Berry Besties over him.
  • Connected All Along: He’s revealed to have been the brother of Johnnycake Cobbler, and the former apprentice of Crabapple Jam.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He’s an evil schemer who runs a baked goods enterprise.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: He's shown proficiency with making gadgets, electrical work, training animals, and yes, even cooking. Despite already being successful and famous, he still feels the need to pull underhanded tactics to stay on top, which ironically leads to his downfall..
  • Dastardly Whiplash: As per usual with the character. His literal first appearance even has him do an Evil Laugh.
  • Engineered Public Confession: How his downfall ultimately comes. Earlier in the episode Lemon mentioned that she puts microphones in all her inventions, including Strawberry's Very Berry Oven. After Pieman did his Motive Rant in the truck and insulted his customers, Lemon played it over the Berryworks speakers, which caused everyberry to turn on him and run him out of the building.
  • Evil, Inc.: Purple Pieman runs a successful franchise of Purple Pieshops all across Big Apple City, but most of his ideas are stolen from his competitors and he constantly engages in sabotage in order to stay on top.
  • Evil Uncle: To Sour Grapes in Berry in the Big City.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Purple Pieman and Johnnycake Cobbler are brothers, yet they only interact in the “Perfect Holiday” special. It’s implied the reason is because Pieman can’t stand Johnnycake’s penchant for dramatics and showmanship.
  • Iconic Attribute Adoption Moment: In "Kiki Keylime's Favorite Things" reveals that he gained his signature mustache after Crabapple Jam taught him to be ruthless and sneaky, it instantly growing from his rather small stubble as he does an Evil Laugh.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Despite being a famous baker, Pieman is never shown baking anything onscreen. Lampshaded by Sour Grapes in “Pets to the Rescue”.
Sour Grapes: Or, since you’re a baker you could, I don’t know go with me here, bake something?
  • Nepotism: In "Purple Protege", Pieman outright says he's choosing Sour as his assistant because she's his niece (and also because she watched everyone else fight).
  • Poke the Poodle: Given the target audience, his schemes never put Strawberry and her friends in danger of anything but inconvenience or depriving them of something they want.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: In the 2003 series, Pieman and Sour Grapes are siblings, but in Berry in the Big City they are uncle and niece.
  • Thin Chin of Sin: His chin is thin, and we tend to see him do evil things.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Implied in the episode "Kiki Keylime's Favorite Things", he was shown bright-eyed and in-awe at Big Apple City, just like Strawberry in the first episode, until he came under the tutelage of Crabapple Jam and became the conniving confectioner he is today.
  • Viler New Villain: He's introduced as soon as Strawberry officially befriends Raspberry Tart and Bread Pudding.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: The Purple Pieman is a highly successful businessman, with Purple Pieshops located everywhere throughout the city. But he's also a corrupt and sneaky individual, going out of his way to antagonize Strawberry Shortcake and sabotaging her business. After the end of Season 2, this becomes downplayed, as his Engineered Public Confession leads to him gaining a 0% Approval Rating and having to resort to cheap tactics to gain customers.

A scam artist who sells fake products to the unsuspecting people of Big Apple City. He's also the brother of the Purple Pieman.

  • Blatant Lies: As part of his pitch for his "Sensational Sweetening Spritz", he claims to be friends with Kiki Keylime, and then proceeds to show off a photo of Kiki with a cutout of him hastily taped to it.
  • Connected All Along: The “Perfect Holiday” special reveals he’s the brother of Purple Pieman.
  • Didn't Think This Through: His scams have a tendency to fall apart because of a glaring flaw he never considered.
    • In his debut episode, he made his Sensational Sweetening Spritznote  right where he sells it, in full public view, which naturally gets him caught by Raspberry and Strawberry.
      • He also didn't research the places he claims to get the ingredients from, so when Strawberry asks him what his favorite place between the Berryville Pumpkin Patch or Orange Grove, he responds with both, at which point Strawberry reveals neither exist due to the small size of the town, which likewise exposes his scheme to his customers.
    • In "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday" He and Pieman attempt to steal the cart belonging to the Cookie Vendor who is actually Cinnamon Swirl, in full public view with several of their enemies, and the Cookie Vendor herself, closeby. Naturally, they're caught.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Him and Purple Pieman are brothers, but “Perfect Holiday” is the first time they interact onscreen. It’s implied the reason for this is because Pieman can’t stand Johnnycake’s penchant for dramatics and showmanship.
  • Mobile Kiosk: As part of his traveling salesman shtick, he sold his Sensational Sweetening Spritz from his truck.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: He's a showman, and almost every sentence he speaks is a rhyme to entertain his crowd with/distract them from his shoddy products.
    • In "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday", Pieman forces him to stop rhyming, as his theatrics risk exposing their scheme to the public.
  • Siblings in Crime: He becomes this with Purple Pieman in the "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday" special. As baking cinnamon cookies is a Winterswirl tradition, the two steal every ounce of cinnamon in the city so no one can make it themselves, then they proceed to sell cinnamon cookies to everyone in order to prop themselves up as the heroes of Winterswirl holiday.
  • Snake Oil Salesman: His entire character revolves around this.
    • His introductory episode has him selling "Sensational Sweetening Spritz" that supposedly improves the taste of any sweets, but in reality is just a brown sugar and water mixture.
    • In the “Beast of Berry Bog” special, Johnnycake sells necklaces that supposedly repel the beast, which are very obviously just cheap trinkets.

A version of Strawberry from her nightmares, who followed in the Purple Pieman’s footsteps.

    Lime Tart and Lemon Tort

Voiced by: Margarita Valderrama (Lime Tart), Andrea Libman (Lemon Tort)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_berry_competitive_berry_in_the_big_city_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_3_09.jpeg
Lemon Tort (left) and Lime Tart (right)

Lime Chiffon and Lemon Meringue's former business partners. Lime Tart is a stuck-up perfectionist and the former owner of the All-Time Lime Cart. Lemon Tort is an eccentric mad scientist and owner of the Lemonade Parade juice cart. At some point the two befriended each other, becoming business partners and rivals to the Berry Besties.

  • Awesome, but Impractical: Lemon Tort's more concerned with her inventions being cool than being useful. She gives her cart the ability to fly and fire a powerful hose of lemonade, despite neither being beneficial for her business. The latter even blasts away a customer after he simply asked for a glass of lemonade.
  • Comical Overreaction: Lime Tart gets angry at Lime Chiffon for supposedly organizing a pile of limes incorrectly, and refers to it as “chaos”. She then blows up at a customer for mistakenly ordering lemonade at their limeade cart, before telling them to leave because she’ll only cater to lime enthusiasts.
  • Expy: Lemon Tort is a very clear parody of Doc Brown from Back to the Future.
  • Foil: Both of them serve as this to their former business partners.
    • Lemon Tort to Lemon Meringue. While Meringue is also a mad scientist inventor, most of her inventions are built to serve a purpose in improving the Berryworks and helping her friends with their businesses, and she’s generally more level-headed. Tort, on the other hand, prioritizes building cool things that ultimately serve no real purpose and has a more manic personality.
    • Lime Tart to Lime Chiffon: Chiffon and Tart are both concerned with neatness and rules, but while Chiffon is more relaxed with her approach, Tart is obsessed with making sure everything is organized to the point of overreaction and excessiveness.
Lime Tart: "What do you think you're doing?"
    Lime Chiffon: "Setting out limes?"
Lime Tart: "Limes should be placed largest at the bottom, smallest at the top, less ripe to the right, more ripe to the left! This is chaos!
  • Mobile Kiosk: The two co-own the Lemonade Parade, which initially was solely owned by Lemon Tort until the two quit the Berryworks.
  • Odd Friendship: Lemon Tort is a loud and eccentric inventor who has a habit of building impressive yet pointless inventions, while Lime Tart is a perfectionist micro-manager who gets infuriated at even the slightest flaw. Despite the two having very little in common, they get along well and have only argued once in the series, which they managed to quickly resolve.
  • The Perfectionist: Lime Tart’s debut episode establishes this as the primary reason why her partnership with Lime Chiffon didn’t work out. Tart constantly nitpicks every perceived blemish, no matter how small, to the point where she quits because she couldn't handle the "chaos" of how Chiffon was handling their business.
  • The Rival: They act as this towards Lime Chiffon and Lemon Meringue, and their friends to an extent.
  • Shout-Out: Lemon Tort is a walking Back to the Future reference.
    • Her design is similar to Doc Brown.
    • She drives the Lemonade Parade juice cart, which has a very similar appearance to the Delorean, including having a hover mode.
    • When she quits the Berryworks, she drives away, leaving a fiery trail and a spinning license plate behind.
    • Her catchphrase is "Great butterscotch!", similar to Doc Brown's "Great scott!"
  • Villainous Friendship: With each other. They're even shown to work together much better than with their original partners.

    Pineapple Clafoutis

Voiced by: Vincent Tong

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pineapple_clafoutis_webp.png

A rude online streamer/movie critic who degrades and criticizes movies he doesn't like.

  • Caustic Critic: Declares the Tangerine Smash movie to be terrible before it even begins.
  • Disrupting the Theater: He talks loudly in the theater, uses his phone to text and livestream a pre-emptive review, and kicks the seat in front of him (which happens to be where Lemon Meringue is). It get to the point where Lemon Meringue decides to build a boxing glove launcher to punch him as revenge, though Orange Blossom intervenes and gets him to leave before this can happen.
  • Expy: To Comic Book Guy, being an overweight, obnoxiously stuck-up nerd about superheroes, he even uses Comic Book Guy's catchphrase and has a Ralph Bakshi-inspired voice.
    Pineapple Clafoutis: Worst. Superberry. EVER!
  • One-Shot Character: Only appeared in “Let’s Go To The Movies”.
  • Straw Misogynist: One of his primary reasons for hating Tangerine Smash is because the titular hero is a woman.

    Crabapple Jam

Voiced by: Laura Drummond

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_strawberry_and_the_gigantic_cake_cartoons_for_kids_season_3_youtube_0_1_56.jpeg

A famous baker in Big Apple City, she became the new owner of the Berryworks in Season 3, so she can undermine the Berry Besties to prevent them from becoming more successful than her.

  • Ambition Is Evil: She buys the Berryworks, then creates new regulations that prohibit the Besties from selling their goods, all to squeeze out competition for her sales. Even after Strawberry pressures her to revoke her rules, Crabapple still plots to get rid of her.
  • Bad Boss: Not only a slave driver, she gives her workers Impossible Tasks she fully intends to fire them for if failed.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Appears as a sweet old lady, but secretly plots to destroy Strawberry Shortcake's business.
  • Connected All Along: “Kiki KeyLime’s Favorite Things” reveals she and Pieman were once master and apprentice.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In "The Spec-Taco-ular Pets", she falsely bans the Berryworks pets, but only because she was led to believe that they were making a mess around the Berryworks. Once provided with clear evidence they weren't the culprits, she allows them to stay and even holds Cherry and Cheese responsible despite them being her assistants.
  • Evil Mentor: She acted as this for the Purple Pieman when he first arrived in the city, turning him into the corrupt, selfish man he is today.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Occasionally her appearances don't involve sabotaging the Berry Besties. In "Strawberry's Shortcake", she introduces an activity where the vendors make something involving their namesake sweet just for fun, with no malicious intent.
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor: Acts like a kind country grandma in public. In private she's a scheming, ruthless woman.
  • Not So Similar: She was originally Strawberry's idol because the girl thought she was a fellow Country Mouse who struck it big the way she dreams of. Unfortunately, Crabapple's success has corrupted her into a ruthless businesswoman.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: As she puts on a sweet grandma act in public, no berry is aware that she's actually incredibly selfish and mean.

Cheese Strudel (left) and Cherry Streusel (right)

The creepy and weird twin assistants of Crabapple Jam.

  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: The twins' hair is styled and colored to look like the baked goods they're named after. This makes them look strange next to Strawberry and her friends, who have technicolored hair but ordinary styles.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: In "Strawberry's Perfect Present", they do several different and weird activities like dancing to construction noise and whale calls, before immediately getting bored and switching to the next one. Strawberry ends up being so confused that by the time they're done, the only thing she learned is that they liked saurkraut.
  • Characterization Marches On: Their first few episodes portrayed them as nothing more than creepy twins whose sole purpose was to hinder the main cast. Episodes from "The Spec-Taco-ular Pets" onwards would give them slightly more individuality and personalities, making them more into bullies who annoy the main cast, rather than generic goons.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: "Strawberry's Perfect Present" establishes them as such. Their first line in the episode is asking if they can eat the papers with the names of their Secret Swirl partner, and later they tried to read each others minds, danced to whale noises and construction work, and when accidentally gifted a literal rat by Strawberry, they sincerely believe it to be the best gift ever.
  • Creepy Twins: They acted like this until "The Spec-Taco-ular Pets", when they began acting more normal, albiet still mean and sometimes weird.
  • The Dividual: Are never seen without each other, and are near identical in personality.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Weirdly, in "Strawberry's Perfect Present", they don't attempt to do anything bad and even genuinely thank Strawberry for her Secret Swirl gift.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At the end of Season 3, after Raspberry Tart showed them there's more to life than just being mindlessly obedient servants, such as having fun with friends, they turn on Crabapple Jam by revealing she fired all the Berry Besties to the citizens of Big Apple City, leading to her quickly announcing she's leaving the Berryworks to save face, allowing the Berry Besties to reclaim it.
  • Sucks at Dancing: When attempting a popular TikTaco dance, both fail spectacularly at it multiple times, despite the dance being so simple that the Berryworks pets were able to perfom it perfectly after watching a video of it once.

    Pumpkin Spice

Voiced by: Kelli Ogmundson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pumpkinspice.jpg

A popular influencer in Big Apple City.

  • Accidental Public Confession: At the end of “Spring Spectacular”, Pumpkin tries to slander Strawberry for the vine incident, until Strawberry gets her to slip up and admit she was responsible for the entire thing, which quickly causes her to lose her following.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Her hairbun is stylized to look like a pumpkin.
  • Bad Influencer: She’s a social media personality who’s fairly rude to others.
  • Frame-Up: In “Spring Spectacular”, she spends the entire special framing Strawberry for the creation of the monstrous vines to her fans on Berrygram, though everyberry is suspicious of her claims, and its quickly revealed she’s the true culprit at the end.
  • It's All About Me: She will also not hesitate to go through controversial methods for views on her channel, such as eavesdropping or villainizing others.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Though she doesn’t really get any punishment for her behavior in "The Beast of Berry Bog" since Candy Corn was responsible for the Beast of Berry Bog hoax while she had nothing to do with it, her villainous actions in "Spring Spectacular" end with her accidentally exposing her true terrible personality on a livestream in front of all her followers. Said followers all immediately give her a thumbs down and unfollow her after this, effectively ruining her career as an influencer and leaving her reputation in shambles.
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor: On the internet, Pumpkin appears as an lively and quirky berry. Off camera, she is a self-centered and egotistical celebrity who cares little about the others around her in favor of her own stardom.
  • Parody: Pumpkin Spice is one to "white girl influencers", down to being named Pumpkin Spice, which is commonly stereotyped as being something white women are obsessed with.

The Beast of Berry Bog (Spoilers!)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strawberry_shortcake_strawberry_to_the_rescue_beast_of_berry_bog_new_cartoons_for_kids_youtube_0_0_16.jpeg

A local monster legend from Strawberry Shortcake and Candy Corn’s hometown.

  • "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: Is revealed to be one created by Candy Corn. She built a robotic version of the Beast in an attempt to destroy the Fright Fall Fun Fair so it would be cancelled and she wouldn't have to perform as the mascot Corny The Cob anymore.
  • The Theme Park Version: Becomes an attraction at the Fright Fall Fun Fair by the end of the special.

     The Mold

Voiced By: Ana Sani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_0503.jpeg

An infestation of mold that infects Strawberry’s Spiritual Swirliverse.

  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She represents Strawberry’s self doubt over her talents as a baker.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: She looks like Strawberry Shortcake but made out of mold and fungi.
  • Fading Away: After Strawberry regains confidence in her skills, the Mold disappears into nothingness.
  • Monster of the Aesop: Her role in “The Swirliverse Strikes Back” is to make Strawberry learn An Aesop about not giving up.
  • Mushroom Man: Has several mushrooms sticking out of her body, and her hat is even a giant mushroom.
