  • Cheerful Child: She generally has an upbeat attitude and positive outlook on things.

  • Only Sane Woman: In many episodes she always has to act as the voice of reason and mediator between her friends whenever they get into arguments with one another (mostly from Angel Cake and Peppermint Fizz).
  • Pink Means Feminine: As part of her Girliness Upgrade, Strawberry wears a lot more pink, with her hair color even changing to dark pink from her more reddish-orange hair of 2003.

After Angel Cake apologizes and Strawberry realizes that she should have been honest, they are able to fix things
    • She also briefly gets it in "Piece of Cake" when her dessert accidentally gets ruined and she storms away from the cooking show. She comes back when Orange Blossom steps up to continue the show alone.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: Strawberry is a tomboyish girl who is 'berry' kind, sweet, caring, compassionate, and loving, while Angel Cake on the other hand is also sweet, but sometimes a little mean and bossy whenever things don't go her own way.
  • Tomboy: She’s a girl with short hair, a gender neutral outfit, and an adventurous and active personality.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She is the tomboy towards Orange Blossom, Lemon Meringue and Angel Cake.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: In the 1980s version she is very sweet and feminine, but in 2003 she has a gender neutral outfit and is very adventurous and active, but still very sweet and loving. This is downplayed in 2007, where she is slightly more girly.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She has a more gender-neutral outfit and is great at playing sports and doing other boyish things. However, she also enjoys playing dress-up, having tea parties, and other feminine things. She also becomes slightly more feminine in her 2007 design.

Apple Dumplin's Season 4 design
Strawberry Shortcake’s younger sister. She's smaller and less independent than the others, but is capable of taking care of herself when the situation arises.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: In "Baby Takes The Cake", she wants to help her sister and friends cook but she just keeps making a mess and getting in their way and this annoys Strawberry's friends a little.
  • Artistic Age: Despite being treated as a "baby" character, Apple Dumplin' acts more as a toddler with her being able to walk and talk.
  • Character Focus: "Baby Takes The Cake" where she is upset about being too little to help Strawberry and her friends cook. She has a dream where the roles are reversed and learns that she might not be ready to cook yet but not for always.
  • Characterization Marches On: In Seasons 1 and 2, due to being a baby, Apple Dumplin' speaks with few words and sentences. Season 3 has her speaking in more complete simple sentences with little errors in the way she talks. Season 4 has her speaking more fluently due to being aged up.
  • Elmer Fudd Syndrome: After all, she is a baby. In her Imagine Spot in "Baby Takes the Cake" in which she's an adult, she loses this, but keeps Third-Person Person.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Gets a pair of pigtails with little apples between them as the ties on the 2007 redesign.
  • Just a Kid: In "Baby Takes the Cake", when Strawberry and friends decide to cook, she wants to help too but she just keeps making messes and Strawberry tells her in a nice way that she is too little to help which upsets her. However, in the ending, Strawberry tells her that she won't be little forever and that she'll grow up.
  • Kid Hero All Grown-Up: She starts off as a baby, but in the third season of the 2003 series, she is more of a toddler who can speak in Third-Person Person sentences until the fourth season, when she is a kid who speaks full sentences.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She's the sister of Strawberry Shortcake, when her original incarnation wasn't related to Strawberry at all.
  • Tagalong Kid: Apple is this, but Strawberry and friends don't mind at all.
  • Third-Person Person: But it zig-zags quite a bit. She tends to refer to other characters in the third-person also.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Apple is more of a sweet and naive little baby who wears a dress while Strawberry wears a more gender neutral outfit who is also sweet but more daring and adventurous.
    Blueberry Muffin

Ginger Snap's Season 4 design.

An inventor who lives in Cookie Corners and bakes cookies. Her Pet is Chocolate Chipmunk, whose dialogue she (And the other residents of Strawberryland) can understand despite just chattering. She is very smart and inventive, which makes her a valuable asset to the gang.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Has medium brown skin. Is she African American or Hispanic?
  • Character Catchphrase: "That was a snap!"
  • The Cameo: She briefly appears in Berry in the Big City episode "Bad Day Blues", in a short clip of the 2003 cartoon that acts as an In-Universe tv show that Strawberry enjoys.
  • Character Tic: Snapping her fingers.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: She didn't appear in the 2009 series and has never appeared since.note  Thanks, Hasbro.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She is a mechanic that is full of gadgets and gizmos.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her 2007 redesign had bigger ones.
  • Motor Mouth: Especially in later episodes.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboyish mechanic to the more feminine perfectionist Angel Cake.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Is usually perky and tomboyish and has the love for mechanical work, but has a soft side for baking and dressing up from time to time. There is even an artwork that shows her in a pink ballerina tutu.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: According to "Ginger Snap's No-light Night of Fright", Ginger Snap has Nyctophobia, so she brings many lights to counter this fear.
  • Wrench Wench: She is a mechanic for goodness sake!
    Angel Cake

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2844729.png
Angel Cake’s Season 4 design
A cake decorator who lives on Cakewalk, she tends to be a perfectionist at times.
  • Ascended Extra: Her original incarnation only had a major role in the “Pets on Parade” special. This Angel is a main cast member with a prominent role in many episodes.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Had purplish hair in her original incarnation, but was made blonde in 2003.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While she is still generally nice, she’s a far cry from the overly polite 1980s incarnation, being much more bossy and prone to arguments.
  • Alpha Bitch: Becomes one near the end of the series, but is still a nice girl and a good friend of Strawberry.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: She is the Blonde to Blueberry Muffin's Brunette and Strawberry Shortcake's Redhead.
  • Characterization Marches On: In Season 1, Angel Cake is generally a sweet girl. The other seasons give her more flaws such as being The Perfectionist and a Sore Loser and more moments where she is bossy turning her into more of a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: She was one of the casualties of Hasbro's "healthy snacks" policy that was in place for the 2009 reboot. Despite being one of the core characters in past iterations, she's had yet to make an appearance since.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Her 2003 counterpart had them as well as her 2007 redesign.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Wears lilac-colored clothing in a lot of her outfits.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Played straight for the first season. Downplayed in the other seasons due to her change in personality.
  • Ironic Name: Her name is “Angel”, yet unlike her overly polite original incarnation, she’s much more of a jerk.
  • It's All About Me: Has moments of this at times, especially in "Angel Cake in the Outfield". She can sometimes be bossier than Peppermint.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Although Angel Cake can be bossy and mean at times, she does have a good heart who cares about her friends.
  • Nice Girl: Angel Cake is one at heart, especially in the 1980s. Her 2003 incarnation is still one even with her perfectionist tendencies, but it becomes downplayed after she Took a Level in Jerkass.
  • The Perfectionist: She is very fastidious in what she does. Strawberry Shortcake lampshades this trope at the start of "Angel Cake in the Outfield".
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In "Angel Cake in the Outfield", she gets so angry and frustrated about not being good at playing sports that she has a meltdown and storms off. She soon learns how to be a better sport at the end though.
  • Sore Loser: The episode "Angel Cake in the Outfield" dealt with this character flaw of hers. She gets better by the episode's end and learns how to be a good sport and just have fun.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: Angel Cake is sweet, but can be mean and bossy sometimes, while Strawberry is more of a tomboy, but still sweet and compassionate to everyone.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The perfectionist girly girl to two tomboys, sporty and adventurous Strawberry Shortcake and perky mechanic Ginger Snap.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Near the end of the series. She even portrays the antagonist in "Sleeping Beauty".

Recurring Characters

Peppermint Fizz’s Season 4 design.
This character made her debut in the second year, where she is one of the contestants in "Peppermint's Pet Peeve", which saw her getting disqualified for cheating at a "Best Pets" competition. Peppermint is rude, arrogant, and generally unpleasant, but she grows out of it eventually, becoming nicer as the series progresses.
  • Adapted Out: Completely absent in the 2009 series due to Hasbro's "healthy snacks" policy.
  • Alpha Bitch: Though she outgrows it later on.
  • Anti-Hero: She serves as one in her introductory episodes. She drops this after her redesign.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: In "Peppermint's Pet Peeve", she cheats in the "Best Pets" competition, resulting in her and Cola Chameleon being disqualified.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She is pretty snarky at first but becomes nicer at the end.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She starts off as cold and harsh, but grows more kind and friendly over time.
  • Dislikes the New Guy: Was initially unwelcome of Rainbow Sherbet because she is different than everyone else, and her resentment almost results in her leaving for good; she learns her lesson when Strawberry throws a costume party where everything is the same, and Peppermint realizes being the same would be boring.
  • Five Stages of Grief: She hits all five stages throughout "The Costume Party" in accordance with her negative reaction toward Rainbow Sherbert. She is unwelcome towards her arrival in Strawberryland (denial), repeatedly lashes out at everyone because she's not like them (anger), her words hurt Rainbow and she considers moving away (bargaining), she attends a costume party held by Strawberry where everything's the same and breaks down when she doesn't get what she wants (depression), and apologizes to Rainbow and finally accepts her as a friend, even though she's different (acceptance).
  • Gender Flip: The Tin Woodsman is her character during the events of "Berry Brick Road" and the Coachman in "The Play's The Thing", when both are male in the original fairy tales.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Evolves into this.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Peppermint starts off as grumpy, snobby, and arrogant, especially when she and the girls meet Rainbow Sherbet, but after she is tricked into going to a Goodbye Party for Rainbow, everyone is wearing the same costume Peppermint was wearing, including Rainbow. This helps Peppermint realize that it's okay to be different than other people and that she shouldn't leave because she's different, and then she apologizes to Rainbow for how she treated her, leading everyone to turn the Goodbye Party into a friendship party.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: "Playing to Beat the Band" reveals that she feels like an outsider and joins Strawberry's band in an attempt to befriend her (despite Strawberry and the others already viewing her as a friend).
  • Ineffectual Loner: She appears to have jealousy issues, but feels alone until she is befriended by Strawberry and her friends.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Generally the most negative character in the show, but does show a softer side every once in a while. Her more jerkish qualities become more subdued later on.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: See Pyrrhic Victory, below.
  • No Indoor Voice: Tends to have this when she gets mad.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: In "Win Some, Lose Some", Peppermint Fizz celebrates her victory due to the possibility of getting her hands on Strawberry Shortcake's garden, but regrets what she did when Strawberry Shortcake gives Apple Dumplin' the exact opposite of a "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Strawberry is talkative and sweet while Peppermint is more introverted and stubborn.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Both ends. She gives one to Rainbow indirectly because they are different in "The Costume Party". Keep in mind that in "Peppermint's Pet Peeve", she got on the receiving end for cheating, which caused her to be disqualified! She also gives herself one when she realizes that she hurt the others in "Win Some, Lose Some".
  • Tomboy: She is one of the lesser feminine characters.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Peppermint is the most tomboyish female character in the 2003/2007 series, due to not loving fashion or girly stuff, while Strawberry is a Tomboy with a Girly Streak who is active and energetic but enjoys playing dress up from time to time. Peppermint is also more of a tomboy in comparison to all of Strawberry's other female friends, due to the fact that they all play dress up from time to time but still adventurous.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She gained this in her 2007 redesign.
    Rainbow Sherbet

An adventurer and sailor who captains the Rainbow Float boat. She first appears in "Costume Party".

  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Is absent in future installments.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: Her color scheme is a pastel rainbow.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Rainbow is so happy to meet her new friends as she welcomes them all as they enter her boat and give her 'Welcome to Strawberryland' presents. Pretty soon, when she and Strawberry plan a party, Peppermint tells Strawberry all of her problems with Rainbow being so different that she didn't want to be friends with her, and that Strawberry shouldn't be friends with her either. As Peppermint storms off, Strawberry looks at Rainbow, who is in tears over Peppermint's comments, because all she wanted was to be friends with everyone, including Peppermint. However, in the end, Peppermint soon apologizes to Rainbow and realizes that she likes her because she's different, which Rainbow happily accepts.
  • Rainbow Motif: She has an extremely colorful outfit like an actual rainbow.
  • Tomboy: A tomboyish sailor.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She is a tomboyish sailor who lives on a boat and lives for adventure but dresses as Rapunzel in A Princess Named Rap.
  • Tomboy Princess: She played as a more tomboyish version of Rapunzel, who prefers being named Rap.
  • Verbal Tic: She often talks in sailor slang.
    Raspberry Torte

Voiced by: Greer McCain (2006); Haley Hyden-Soffer (2006-2009)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20210106_164718.jpg
True to her name, this character has a bit of a mean streak. Raspberry Torte is a tomboy athlete and is very brash (which posed a problem to those around her but she learned to overcome this), but not to the extent of Peppermint Fizz, and has a close friend in Lemon Meringue.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Her last name was changed from "Tart" to "Torte".
  • Anti-Hero: She's got a sharp tongue, which gets her admonished a few times.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She’s very snarky and stubborn at times around the other girls, except for Lemon Meringue. She soon becomes more nice to everyone else as well, especially to Strawberry.
  • Jabba Table Manners: At least until her friends teach her otherwise.
Raspberry: I'll reach across the table / Won't even try to share / I'll eat with just my fingers / I’ll stand up in my chair / And if that makes 'em angry / That’s how it's gonna be / 'Cause the only one I care about / Is me, myself, and me.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Despite her brash and stubborn nature, she’s still fairly nice when it comes down to it, especially to Lemon Meringue.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: Raspberry is much more athletic and less feminine compared to her original incarnation.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She’s the tomboy to Lemon Meringue’s Girly Girl.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Has a long one.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She is usually sporty and tomboyish, but she has no problem wearing a dress or having tea parties. Also, in the Sweet Dreams Movie, she has a soft place in her heart for her doll.
  • Tsundere: In the Sweet Dreams Movie, Raspberry appears to be unhappy and stubborn at first when she arrives in Strawberryland with Lemon Meringue, but she soon becomes nicer.

One of Strawberry’s friends, Lemon runs a beauty salon in Lemon Lane. She is the go-to guru for all things hair and fashion. She’s best friends with Raspberry Torte.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Lemon’s original incarnation was a model, but now she’s a hairdresser.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: She's the Blonde to Blueberry Muffin's Brunette and Strawberry Shortcake's Redhead.
  • The Fashionista: She’s considered the go-to expert on style, runs a beauty salon, and the 2003 website outright said she “just might grow up to be Strawberryland’s most acclaimed fashion model someday!”
  • Girly Girl: She’s generally one of the more feminine characters, but downplayed compared to her prior incarnation, as she has shown interest in things like horseback riding.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She’s a very kind girl with blonde hair.
  • Jerkass Ball: In "Back in the Saddle", she suddenly becomes an Alpha Bitch at the dude ranch. She and Banana Candy constantly bully Plum Puddin' for her clumsiness. Their backstabbing drives Plum to tears and makes her almost leave the ranch. However, Lemon and Banana both take back what they said and thank Plum for getting Annie to help them be able to get back to the ranch when there were boulders in the way, when Plum tells them that everybody makes mistakes and that what mattered is that everyone was okay now.
  • Morality Pet: She is the one who Raspberry Torte is always nice to and has a soft spot for.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's the girly-girl towards Raspberry Torte's tomboy.

One of the many international friends Strawberry Shortcake met, Tea lives in the Plum Blossom Province near the Great Wall of Chocolate.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Rather than black hair like her original incarnation, Tea has blue hair.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Her name was changed from “Almond Tea” to “Tea Blossom”
  • Asians Love Tea: A token Chinese character who, as her name suggests, is themed around tea.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Has yet to appear since the 2007 series concluded.
  • Feud Episode: With Strawberry in the episode "A Festival of Friends". The two dislike each other's dessert recipe, which leads to a tense situation as neither want to tell the other the truth. However, at the end, when Tea Blossom is about to leave Strawberryland, Strawberry returns to apologize and both girls admit that they should have been honest with each other sooner, and agree to be friends despite their differences.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has two in her 2007 redesign.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Downplayed on the "jerk" part, because she is an overall nice and polite person. Tea Blossom and Strawberry Shortcake get into a little argument after they are safe from a waterfall, leading Tea Blossom to storm off. Strawberry asks if Tea Blossom even likes it in Strawberryland, and Tea Blossom admits that she doesn't like all of it. Custard accepts that fact and tells her that Strawberry didn't like her dessert recipe, leading Tea Blossom to get upset and angrily confess that she didn't like her dessert either. At the end, Strawberry apologizes to Tea Blossom for not being honest with her, and Tea Blossom admits that she should have been honest too, and the two girls still remain as good friends from that time on.
  • Odango Hair: She has her hair tied up in two buns. This was changed to long pigtails in the 2007 redesign.

A friend of Strawberry’s.
  • Age Lift: She's around the same age as Strawberry and the rest of the main group, rather than being a baby.
  • Blatant Lies: In her spotlight/introduction episode, she resorts to this in order to impress her new friends. Naturally, by episode's end she is forced to admit the truth. Fortunately, the lies were relatively harmless and she is quickly forgiven.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Apricot has not been seen since the 2003/2007 series. Unlike Angel Cake and Ginger Snap, she is entirely fruit themed and so her absence doesn't have the "no junk food" policy as an excuse.

  • Cowboy: She is a cowgirl who lives in a ranch.
  • Expy: She's named after and based on Annie Oakley, a famous sharpshooter.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She is a blonde haired cowgirl with a kind heart. Especially towards Plum Puddin', whom she has confidence in despite Plum's clumsiness. Annie knows how to be a good sport and a good friend.
  • Tomboy: She is pretty much tomboyish and active due to her life on the ranch and her love of horseback riding.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She has a very high ponytail.
  • Toyless Toyline Character: She has no official doll or any other merchandise and is exclusive to the 2003/2007 cartoon.

    Lime Light

Voiced by: L. Parker Lucas (2008)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8a5dd20e85f2b9722741a0106d61cf24_strawberry_shortcake_episodes_kid_activities.jpg
Lime Light is one of Berrywood's top actresses and Strawberry Shortcake’s childhood friend. Unfortunately, life in show business made Lime into a snobby, egotistical diva. She thankfully gets better later on.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: She started with green hair in the original 1980s series, but was made blonde in 2008.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: In the 1980s, Lime Chiffon is a sweet and adorable ballerina that can be a ditz at times but is very sweet and caring. In 2008, Her name was changed to Lime Light and she’s a self-centered movie star who acts like a diva.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Lime’s original incarnation was a ballerina, while this Lime is an actress.
  • Adaptational Name Change: She becomes "Lime Light".
  • It's All About Me: She’s incredibly selfish and egotistical, until Strawberry helps her see the error of her ways.
  • Jerkass Realization: Lime undergoes one thanks to Strawberry’s intervention, which leads to her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She is a self-centered star that cares about nobody except herself, but then she learns how important it is to think about other people's feelings and apologizes to everyone, including The Director.
  • Last Episode, New Character: She was introduced in the final story arc, “Berrywood Here We Come”.
  • Toyless Toyline Character: There was no doll for Lime Light in the toyline, likely due to her only appearance being the very last special for that incarnation.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Strawberry mentions that she used to know Lime Light from back when she was "berry" young. They even show a flashback of the two of them as babies. Pretty soon, as Strawberry makes it to Berrywood, Strawberry learns that Lime is a movie star now, but has turned out to be more snobby than she remembers. Lime eventually becomes nicer at the end though.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_3_0.png

Strawberry's pet cat. She's been Strawberry's pet from the very start of the franchise.

  • Butt-Monkey: Becomes this whenever Pupcake tackles her. It's become a Running Gag.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: She's very snarky in the 2003 series, mostly around Pupcake.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In 2003, even though Custard is a tsundere in many episode, she knows that people don't actually live in houses that look like desserts. (If she lives in Strawberry land, how does she know that?)
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In 2003, Custard can often be moody and sarcastic, but she still cares for her friends, including Strawberry, Apple, and Pupcake.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: She is a cat but still a part of the fun on Strawberry's adventures.
  • Talking Animal: Is one of the few instances of this happening in the series.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: While Custard appears to be tomboyish, Strawberry is also tomboyish but is more into specific girly stuff than she is.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Custard is a tomboyish cat but doesn't mind dressing up as a princess from time to time.
  • Tsundere: A bit of tsun-tsun in the early episodes towards Pupcake in the 2003 series.

    Raven

Voiced By: Ryle Smith

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/my_gift_horse_gift_strawberry_shortcake_youtube_0_1_38.jpeg

Licorice Whip’s sidekick/pet raven who helps him horsenap ponies, including Honey Pie Pony. After he’s tricked into almost untying Honey Pie’s rope, Licorice Whip chases him away. When Raven meets Strawberry and her friends, he becomes so moved by the care they show for Honey Pie that he helps them rescue her. Though his only cartoon appearance in the 2003 series is “Festival of the Fillies”, he returns for the Game Boy Advance game Strawberry Shortcake: Ice Cream Island Riding Camp.

  • A Dog Named "Dog": A raven named..."Raven".
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Bad Boss Licorice Whip constantly berates him, shouts at him, steals his ideas, and even tries to hit him. Though Raven is annoyed by his horrible behavior, he surprisingly still cares for him enough to get help when Licorice Whip is stranded amidst flooded ice cream in the GBA game.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After Licorice Whip drives him away, Raven overhears Strawberry and her friends vowing to never stop looking for Honey Pie Pony. Moved to tears by their loyalty and kind words, Raven helps them by leading them to the dock where Licorice Whip is about to sail with the captive ponies.
Raven: Nobody ever thought I was special. Nobody ever cared about me like that! (sobs) (normal voice) If she means that much to ya, maybe there's somethin' I can do to help ya get her back!
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Inverted in that Raven is allowed to join the festival after he turns on Licorice Whip to help Strawberry and friends rescue Honey Pie and the ponies. He does return to Licorice Whip's side for the GBA game, but he's still nice to Strawberry and her friends.
  • Swiss-Army Tears: In the GBA game, the player can use Raven’s tears to partially restore their Life Meter during the Sundae Mountains level.
  • Talking Animal: Shares this trait with Honey Pie Pony.

Villains

The Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak

Voiced by: Cork Ramer (2006-2009)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest12_5.png
The main villain of the series, Purple Pieman is a scheming baker who seeks to take over Strawberryland alongside his sister, Sour Grapes.
  • Added Alliterative Appeal: The Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak.
  • Ambition Is Evil: The Pieman will gladly turn to dirty tricks to stay the greatest baker around.
  • Dastardly Whiplash: Has a very prominent handlebar mustache. He even twirls it at times.
  • Dream Stealer: He became this in The Sweet Dreams movie by taking over the Dream Factory in order to keep all the dreams to himself because he never got one as a child.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: In the Sweet Dreams movie he nearly ruins dreams for everyone.
  • Poke the Poodle: Given the target audience, his schemes never put Strawberry and her friends in danger of anything but inconvenience or depriving them of something they want.
  • Revenge Before Reason: In the Sweet Dreams movie, the Purple Pieman never had dreams. For this, and for his literal thinking causing him to try to literally snatch Strawberry Shortcake's dream away from her in his conquest, he storms the Land of Dreams, deceives its inhabitants, boots out the Sandman, takes over the dream factory, holds the main Dream Builder hostage in a cage dangling over a black hole to blackmail the other dream factory workers, announces that dreams will no longer be shipped out, and then mentions that he never dreamed. After all of this, he continues ruining everything for the Land of Dreams, but he sure finished up a lot of revenge before explaining himself.
  • Thin Chin of Sin: His chin is thin, and we tend to see him do evil things.
  • Verbal Tic: According to The Sweet Dreams Movie he even has it in his signature.
  • Visionary Villain: He has lofty dreams of taking over Strawberryland, but never gets to achieve them.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: He has white hair, and is fairly evil.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Surprisingly, one of the few examples of this being averted, as his design is kept the same from the original series.

    Sour Grapes

Voiced by: Bridget Robbins (2006-2009)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f6405fa2_66a1_46e1_a88b_7508bbb4733e.jpeg
Another villain, Sour Grapes is the Peculiar Purple Pieman's sister and accomplice. She was introduced in The Sweet Dreams Movie.
  • Becoming the Mask: In Dancin' in Disguise, she starts going through the Heel–Face Revolving Door before finally settling on a Heel–Face Turn because of this.
  • Evil Diva: Complete with High-Class Gloves and the purple outfit.
  • Feather Boa Constrictor: Sour Grapes wears her pet snake like this.
  • Freudian Excuse: In the Sweet Dreams Movie she invokes this to a degree, mentioning she could have been completely different if she'd gotten the doll she wanted as a child.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She used to follow Pie Man's evil plans, but soon became a bit of a mother figure to Strawberry and her friends after spending more time with them.
  • Manchild: She justifies this as she never had a doll when she was a child.
  • Not a Morning Person: Stated in Queen For A Day.
The Peculiar Purple Pieman: Ms. Grapes, what time do you get up in the morning?
Sour Grapes: No earlier... than noon.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In "Everybody Dance", she disguises herself as a dance instructor named Rita Rutabaga to trick Strawberry and her friends into practicing their dance moves in her studio, so she and the Purple Pieman can rob them. Her disguise fools the girls completely until she unmasks herself.
  • One of the Kids: Becomes this over time, after her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Servile Snarker: She delivers one very sassy line in The Sweet Dreams Movie
"Land of Dreams? Oh I get it... In your dreams, Pieman!"
  • Team Mom: Starting with her first heel face turn in the episode Dancin' In Disguise, she when not in the role of villain essentially replaced Honey Pie Pony regarding this position with the main cast.
  • Thin Chin of Sin: Just like the Peculiar Purple Pieman himself does, she has a thin chin and does bad things.
    Sea Serpent

Voiced by: Pam Carter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seas_serpent_webp.png

The greedy antagonist in the episode "Legend of the Lost Treasure".

    Licorice Whip

Voiced by: Jerry Longe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/licorice_whip.png

The first villain in the 2003 series, he's a traveling horsenapper who appears in "Festival of the Fillies" and proceeds to kidnap Honey Pie Pony and the other fillies on Ice Cream Island. He has a pet bird named Raven who later undergoes a Heel–Face Turn. While he doesn't return in the cartoon, he comes back in the Game Boy Advance game Strawberry Shortcake: Ice Cream Island Riding Camp.

  • Bad Boss: He's this to his pet bird, Raven.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: He kidnaps horses and exploits them for money. He's not too kind to Raven, either.
  • Dark Is Evil: He's a villain who wears black clothing.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At the end of the game when you rescue him.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In the GBA game, he's drilling the cookie crust foundation of Ice Cream Island to and attempts to sell it as snacks. His reckless drilling ultimately gets him into trouble which Strawberry and co. must help him out of.
  • Kick the Dog: After Honey Pie almost tricks Raven into untying the rope on her neck, Licorice Whip tries to hit him before shooing him away.
Licorice Whip: RAVEN! Why are you untying my star horse?!
Raven: But-Hey, boss! The rope was scratching her!
Licorice Whip: Get out of here now!! I never want to see you again!
  • Lean and Mean: Is this for "Festival of the Fillies", but he later reforms in the GBA game.
  • Meaningful Name: Licorice is generally regarded as an unpleasant-tasting treat, and whips are commonly associated with abusive circus ringmasters, both of which sum up Licorice Whip well.
  • Repulsive Ringmaster: In "Festival of the Fillies", Licorice Whip kidnaps Honey Pie Pony for his horse circus, where he exploits horses for money by making them do dangerous tricks.
  • Sinister Schnoz: He has a large nose, and is a villain.
  • Thin Chin of Sin: Like the Purple Pieman, he has a thin chin, and is a Repulsive Ringmaster.
  • Villain Song: Gets one in the form of "Gift Horse Gift".
  • We Will Meet Again: At the end of "Festival of the Fillies," he swears "You haven't seen the last of me!" The promise could be said to be fulfilled in the GBA game.

A species of fairies who reside in Berry Fairy World, they are responsible for maintaining the fruits around Strawberryland. Notable members include the Fairy Queen, Sherry Bobbleberry, Margalo B. Berryglow, and Periwinkle Pearblossom.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Sherry Bobbleberry was initially an outcast, due to her clumsy nature causing problems. After saving the Berry Fairy World, she was welcomed back with open arms.
  • Fantastic Rank System: The Berry Fairies operate under one. There are four ranks for a fairy: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Class, who all operate under the command of the Fairy Queen. Fairies can be promoted by doing well at their jobs, or by performing a great act.
  • The High Queen: The Fairy Queen.
  • One-Gender Race: There’s no signs of any male fairies.
  • Painting the Frost on Windows: Berry Fairies give fruits in Strawberryland their scents.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Fairy Queen is the only fairy who was willing to listen to Sherry’s plan to save their home from an incoming flood, and doesn’t ridicule her at all.
  • Rich Bitch: Margalo B. Berryglow... at first.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: They appear to fill in for the Berrykins of the original series, as fantastical beings who maintain the fruits in Strawberryland.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Margalo’s debut has her take advantage of Strawberry’s kind and trusting nature by faking an injury to stay in her house.
  • Vocal Dissonance: A fairy named Spring has this trait. Her look is rather youthful, but she does have the voice of an adult. Seaberry Delight shares this trait with her.

Fairy Tale Characters

    In general
  • Fairy Tale Episode: These characters all featured in episodes retelling the original fairy tales, though "The Play's The Thing" is the only episode where the story is re-enacted in-universe, the others all are straight retellings with the Strawberry Shortcake cast.
    "The Play's The Thing" Characters

In general

Cinderella

She's the main heroine, who gets to go to a royal ball with help from her fairy godmother. Played by Strawberry Shortcake under the name "Strawberella".

The Fairy Godmother

Prince Charming

Wicked Stepmother

Wicked Step-sisters

    "Berry Brick Road" Characters

In general

Glinda the Good Witch

This character is a character who was derived from the The Wizard of Oz series. Being opposed to whatever her nasty sister, the Wicked Witch of the West, is doing, Glinda makes her lair in the famous Emerald City. She appears in both segments of "Berry Brick Road", the first of which gives her a minor role, and in the latter of which she has an impact on the plot.
  • Big Good: She and the Wizard of Oz serve as this.
  • Cain and Abel: Being a kind person, Glinda would be quite easy to pick to represent Abel. (The Wicked Witch is Cain.)
  • Cute Witch: A variant. She is quite pretty for a witch.
  • The Good King: Inverted by gender. She has the right personality traits, being wise, benevolent, and fair, but is female. Doubles as a direct inversion to the God Save Us from the Queen! trope.
  • Princesses Rule: Implied. There is no sign of a king or queen, and it's ambiguous as to whether she is a princess or an actual queen.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: In the "Toto's Tale" segment, she reveals that Strawberry Shortcake just needs to tap-dance in the magic slippers that she got.
  • You Don't Look Like You: She looks more like Plum Puddin' dressed like a queen or princess.

The Wizard of Oz

This charcter is the ultimate goal for Strawberry Shortcake when she crash-lands her house in an attempt to escape the storm. He and Glinda are great friends. His powers are so great, that the heroes come to seek him to have their wishes granted. His lair is in the Emerald City.
  • Identical Stranger: He resembles Huckleberry Pie.
  • Jumpscare: The Wizard delivers one in his introduction. Though this time, it doesn't work.
Wizard of Oz: "Who are you!? And what do you want with the wizard!?"
  • Miles Gloriosus: His true form is revealed to look just like Huckleberry Pie. That said he MIGHT be a wizard...
  • You Don't Look Like You: He now resembles Huckleberry Pie, and his voice is higher-pitched to match.

The Scarecrow

This character is first seen when Strawberry Shortcake passes by a farm on her way to the Emerald City. He wants an actual brain because he feels that his straw brain doesn't allow him to hold his memory properly. Played by Ginger Snap in Berry Brick Road.
  • Brainy Brunette: Despite his straw brain, this guy has smarts that you should not laugh at. He was behind the idea that the Tin Woodsman reflects a spell by jumping in front of it! It helps that Ginger Snap is a part of his character. (She is one herself, after all.)
  • Forgetful Jones: The Scarecrow's Freudian Excuse for his quest to get a real brain instead of a straw one.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Due to being infused with Ginger Snap's character, the Scarecrow has pigtails coming from his head. Said pigtails are longer, however, going down to his waist.
  • You Don't Look Like You: The Scarecrow now looks like Ginger Snap does, though he has longer pigtails. His dungaree is now replaced with the jacket and jeans that she usually wears.

The Tin Woodsman/Nick Chopper

This character is first seen when Strawberry Shortcake walks by the forest that he was working at. Due to his rusty joints, Nick was immobilised, but Strawberry Shortcake used an oiling can that she and Pupcake found to lubricate the Tin Woodsman's joints and allow him to move again. Played by Angel Cake in Berry Brick Road.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Since Peppermint Fizz makes part of his character (She herself can be a jerk.), he has more jerkass moments, such as reacting in a What the Hell, Hero? manner when the Scarecrow reveals his desire for a brain.
  • And I Must Scream: Being adapted into a kid-friendly show didn't save him from this. Fortunately, Strawberry Shortcake ends the condition by lubricating his joints.
  • Attack Reflector: Courtesy of the Scarecrow's plan, the Wicked Witch of the West gets hit by her own spell when the Tin Woodsman bounces it back with his own chest as she attacks the group.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He evolves into this.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Downplayed, but Nick is quite miffed when the Scarecrow reveals his desire to get his straw brain replaced with a real one.
  • You Don't Look Like You: His face was torn off and replaced with something like Peppermint Fizz's face.

The Cowardly Lion

This character is first seen after Nick Chopper joins the gang. Though he is a lion, this character does not have much courage. Fortunately, Strawberry Shortcake is certain that some courage exists within his own heart, even after she sees his own tail scaring him. Played by Orange Blossom in Berry Brick Road.

The Berrykins

These guys are human-looking dwarves that can be found throughout Oz. They are rather plump, although this does not hinder their movement. Three of them are forced to work for the Wicked Witch of the West and are freed after Strawberry Shortcake accidentally launches her into a dungeon. Apparently, the Berrykins were using "Gem-berries" for their civilisation, but got careless and started taking them for granted, which ended up endangering the Gem-berries.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Their original species name was "Munchkin".
  • Fat and Skinny: Their typical member is the "fat". Unless the Tin Woodsmannote  was retconned to not be part of their race, he would be the "skinny", though he is taller than their average member.
  • Lilliputians: Downplayed. They are smaller than your typical human, but are still a foot tall. Given that his original counterpart was part of their race, the Tin Woodsman may be their tallest member, about the size of a human kid.
  • You Don't Look Like You: They are now smaller, and their bodies (except the Tin Woodsman's) are plumper.

The Wicked Witch of the West

Aka Gladys, the Wicked Witch of the West serves as the Big Bad for the "Berry Brick Road" arc, which is based on her home series, the The Wizard of Oz series. She has a pair of magic slippers that Strawberry Shortcake unwittingly steals from her after she crashes her house nearby. At this, the Wicked Witch of the West tries to get the slippers that she lost, using sneakers as a makeshift replacement until then. She is also responsible for endangering the Gem-Berries, destroying a lot of them, which Strawberry Shortcake tries to prevent when she discovers this.
    "Sleeping Beauty" Characters

In general

Princess Strawberry Rose

This character made her debut in the fairytale Sleeping Beauty and appears in the Strawberry Shortcake episode of the same name. Played by Strawberry Shortcake.

Prince Huckleberry

Prince Huckleberry is based on the Prince from Sleeping Beauty. He was eavesdropping on the Brambleberry Fairy's plot, and was quick to bring it up to her after she suffers her Villainous Breakdown. During his lecture, Prince Huckleberry reveals that it was the Brambleberry Fairy's fault that she didn't get the invitation. She realises from listening to him that her Brambleberry bushes that she set up as an anti-robbery fence actually blocked everyone. Played by Huckleberry Pie.
  • Adaptation Name Change: The Disney version of Sleeping Beauty named him "Phillip". His name was unknown in the base story.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: He and the Brambleberry Fairy do not fight when they meet, instead talking it out.
  • Blown Across the Room: Given his stature, this guy shouldn't have been sent flying through the bushes behind his back when the Brambleberry Fairy accidentally hit him with her wings.
  • Giant Space Flea Out Of Nowhere: Prince Huckleberry is a benevolent example. His first appearance is after the Brambleberry Fairy realises that she was the one in the wrong and they collide. He wasn't mentioned anywhere, although fans did know that a prince would come later.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He is quick to mention to the Brambleberry Fairy in his lecture that if you want to defend your house from robbers, putting brambleberries around your house Goes Horribly Right due to creating a delivery dead-zone. Downplayed as Prince Huckleberry neither raises his voice nor gets angry during his lecture.

The Berry Fairies

A group of four fairies who bestow gifts on Strawberry Rose; similar to the fairies from the original story. Consists of Gingerberry Fairy (Ginger Snap), Rainbowberry Fairy (Rainbow Sherbert), Angelberry Fairy (Angel Cake), Orangeberry Fairy (Orange Blossom) and Appleberry Fairy (Apple Dumplin') in the book adaptation. In "Sleeping Beauty", Angelberry Fairy was replaced with Tangerinaberry Fairy (Tangerine Torta).

The Brambleberry Fairy

This character made her only appearance, serving as the Big Bad of "Sleeping Beauty". She crashed the party centered around Princess Strawberry Rose's birth because she thought that nobody invited her, so in order to take revenge, she used her magic to curse Princess Strawberry Rose. Played by Angel Cake in the episode version and Blueberry Muffin in the storybook adaptation.
