The Four Houses

Clockwise from upper right: Beneviento, Heisenberg, Moreau, Dimitrescu
The Four Houses are an alliance of noble families that tyrannically rule the village. Its corresponding Four Lords are powerful mutants created by an enigmatic woman named Miranda, descending from the region's founders in the 20th century when she usurped leadership.

Along with their self-stylized "mother," Miranda, they serve as the main antagonists of Resident Evil Village.
    open/close all folders
    In general
  • Asshole Victim: After terrorizing an entire village and converting many of them into their minions, they truly do not deserve any form of sympathy. Ethan coldly says that they all should just rot and die, with the exception of Donna, as her childlike nature makes her more like a deadly playmate than a malicious torturer, with her being the only Lord Ethan doesn't show any outward malice towards.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: They were all formally adopted by Mother Miranda, and so are technically siblings.
  • Co-Dragons: All of the house leaders answer directly to Mother Miranda.
  • Elite Four: The antagonists are four homicidal noble families.
  • Monster Mash: While not 100% accurate to the myths, the nobles' houses all hold a resemblance to various Gothic Horror monsters. House Dimitrescu are an Aristocratic Clan of Vampires, Lord Heisenberg is a Dr. Frankenstein-like engineer who's building an army of cyborg zombies, Lord Moreau evokes the Hunchback while also being a Fish Man, Lady Donna Beneviento and Angie evoke the Woman in Black and Demonic Dummy respectively and they all answer to Mother Miranda, whose black wings and Dark Messiah role give her the appearance of a Fallen Angel.
  • Multinational Team: Implied based on their given family names: Romanian (Dimitrescu), German (Heisenberg), Italian (Beneviento), and French (Moreau).
  • Non-Indicative Name: Despite the name, only Alcina leads a house in the traditional sense, with the remaining three Lords being the only remaining members of their respective families.
  • Predecessor Villain: See that familiar logo on the stone carving in the picture? Turns out Mother Miranda and her experiments actually predate the Umbrella Corporation and even directly inspired Ozwell Spencer to found the Umbrella Corporation.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Through their infection by the Mold, Mother Miranda and the four lords have stopped aging and are nearly a hundred years old, with Miranda herself having a daughter in 1909.
  • Symbolism:
    • All of the four houses are associated with the creatures that the girl encounters in the story read at the beginning. The order she encounters them in is also the order that the player encounters them in as well.
      • Alcina Dimitrescu is associated with the Bat Lord, being a vampire.
      • Donna Beneviento is associated with the Dark Weaver, with both the Dark Weaver and her dolls possessing spider-like limbs.
      • Salvatore Moreau is associated with the Fish King. He is heavily associated with fish and other aquatic life, to the point where his One-Winged Angel form somewhat resembles the fish from the story.
      • Karl Heisenberg is associated with the Iron Horse. The horse has a gear on its head, and Heisenberg is a Gadgeteer Genius who creates machines. His family crest also has a horse on it.
      • And Mother Miranda is the Witch, being the last one confronted after the girl meets the other four. She's associated with witch-like symbolism. Not to mention the combined crest has the four houses united by a single 8-pointed figure, which is the number of wings Miranda has.
    • Each House's family crest defines who its members are in its imagery.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: It's made very clear that the Four Houses are at odds with each other, despite working together under Mother Miranda. This is most evident during the meeting scene, where all four heads of the respective Houses are in the same room. Angie of House Beneviento yells at Lord Moreau to "get out of the way, ugly" so she can see Ethan, Lord Heisenberg angrily tells both of them to "shut the fuck up" when Angie excitedly announces Ethan's awake, and Lady Dimitrescu condescendingly scoffs at and dismisses his theatrical desire to make a show out of hunting Ethan, all in the span of a couple seconds. In particular, this applies to Heisenberg and Dimitrescu, who hate each other.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Gender-Inverted Trope. The team consists of three women (four if you count Angie as a separate entity from Donna) and two men.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The group collectively and happily ripped the infant Rosemary to pieces, an utterly heinous act even if the actual way they did it was effectively painless.

House Dimitrescu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/29oyawh.png
The members of House Dimitrescu reside in an enormous gothic castle, filled not only with treasure, but monstrous horrors that lay inside and below. Openly terrorizing the village and rumored to be blood-drinking cannibals, they are the most feared of the Four Houses.
    In general
  • Advertised Extra: Zigzagged for Alcina, but played straight for the rest. The amount of attention they received in the pre-release promotional material made most people believe they were the main villains, while in reality, they're just the Starter Villains. While plot relevant, Alcina is the game's very first boss battle (and thus the first one to be killed), and her three daughters are basically just minibosses with little plot importance. Admittedly, they are also the first opponents Ethan faces, and the first ones that require more than simply gunfire to subdue. In general, they fill a similar position to Bitores Méndez, being hyped as the main threat only to be the first major villains.
  • The Family That Slays Together: Alcina and her daughters all share the same penchant for hunting and eating humans. When Ethan begins to kill her daughters, Alcina becomes furious and decides to kill Ethan despite Mother Miranda's orders.
  • Family Theme Naming: All four members of the House have names that end with the letter 'a' and follow the first four letters of the alphabet.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Despite drawing heavily on Gothic Horror tropes for a classic vampire aesthetic, Alcina and her daughters are Actually Not a Vampire. They may bite and drink blood, but they are not undead and have an origin that makes them more akin to mutants rather than The Virus.
  • Parent-Child Team: They act as this. It's even possible for Cassandra and Alcina to chase Ethan at the same time if Cassandra is chasing you and you run into Alcina.
  • Undeathly Pallor: To go with their vampiric theme, they all have pale grey skin, even though they are technically still alive.
  • Vampires Are Rich: The Dimitrescus are the most typically aristocratic of the Four Houses, their home a well-preserved castle and their ruling Lady the most conventionally attractive among them. Before she turns into a dragon, anyway.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: All of their deaths could have been avoided if they had just killed Ethan instead of toying with him for their own enjoyment.

    Lady Dimitrescu

Countess Alcina Dimitrescu

"You will learn what it means to insult House Dimitrescu!"

Voiced by: Maggie Robertson (English), Kikuko Inoue (Japanese)Foreign VAs
Facial Model: Helena Mankowska

An Eastern European aristocrat who lives in her inherited stronghold, Castle Dimitrescu, a fortress which has been controlled by her family since its medieval inception. The towering matriarch of House Dimitrescu and ruler of the castle that overlooks the village, she hunts Ethan alongside her bloodthirsty "daughters".

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Her claws are this. She introduces to Ethan by slicing his hand clean off while he's in the middle of pulling a lever. During the ensuing chase sequence, she uses them to slice effortlessly through metal prison bars in her dungeon as she pursues him.
  • The Ace: Rich, beautiful, and of noble blood, Alcina is considered the most powerful and feared of the Four Lords alongside Heisenberg. In Mother Miranda's research notes, she considers her the most perfect of the Lords for her daughter's potential vessel to merge with the Megamycete, if not for her blood disease.
  • Action Mom: A villainous example. Her height, healing factor and claws make her a challenging opponent for Ethan, and she also goes utterly berserk if any harm is done towards her daughters, as Ethan learns the hard way.
  • Actually Not a Vampire: While her daughters have the motif of vampires, even biting people on the neck, Dimitrescu's only real vampiric trait is that she has an abnormally long life and drinks blood due to a disease that forces her to. Otherwise, she's more a mutant granted an unusual height, inhuman durability, and the ability to change her fingers into claws. The whole stuffing people into wine barrels is her just being cruel for the sake of it.
  • Advertised Extra: Zigzagged. Despite having a dominant presence in the marketing and merchandise leading up to the game, she's the first house leader faced and therefore the first to meet her fate. That said, she is the most prominent of the four lords alongside Heisenberg in regard to screen time, having one of the largest areas of the game and actively stalking you like Mr. X, Nemesis and Jack once you kill one of her daughters. In comparison, you don't even get to see Donna Beneviento's face until you kill her, and then only for a few seconds before she crumbles away into dust. Despite her relatively minor role, Dimitrescu leaves a lasting impression, and her sprawling castle estate seen looming in the distance for the remainder of the game even after her death constantly reminds you of her impact on the village. To this effect, she ended up being Promoted to Playable for the additional Mercenaries levels seen in the game's DLC.
  • The Ageless: Notes and diary entries reveal she was already 44 when she was injected with the Cadou parasite, and hasn't aged a day since, having created her daughters and begun feeding on the villagers before 1958. Even though the dates of Miranda's experiments are vague, the game is set in February 2021, making Alcina easily over 100 years old. She herself describes "everlasting life" as one of Mother Miranda's many gifts to her.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Alcina Dimitrescu shows some signs of being this; she absolutely abhors men, frequently belittling and disdaining them, and only ever allowed women to serve in her castle, while also using them for experiments and feeding off their blood. She also has some very violent and sensual statues of women being stabbed by presumably herself and her daughters. There's also the fact that her daughters aren't hers by birth, and she created them as Artificial Family Members. Fitting for a character who shares some imagery with Carmilla, the predatory Lesbian Vampire herself, and Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess who history debates may have had some sapphic interests. Maggie Robertson, Dimitrescu's Mo-Cap and English voice actress, has also stated that Alcina is an LGBTQ+ ally.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's worth noting Alcina Dimitrescu had a life in the outside world before the age of 44, the age she returned to the village and was inducted into Mother Miranda's cult. A jazz CD within Ethan and Mia's European resort features a cover by "Miss D & the Pallboys", with the lead singer bearing a remarkable resemblance to Alcina, familiar name notwithstanding. With how the timeline adds up, it is uncertain if this is indeed Alcina or just a joke on Capcom's part, as they have yet to comment on it.
  • Animal Motifs: Dragons. Lady Dimitrescu compares herself to one while chasing Ethan through her castle. Her mutated form is also a full-blown Draconic Abomination.
Dimitrescu: A rat can't run from the dragon's claws!
  • Arc Villain: The first one of Village, as the trek through her castle is merely a race for survival before the plot begins to unravel after her defeat.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: She plays up the haughty noblewoman attitude compared to the other house lords, likely the result of being born into nobility prior to living in the village. She has also caused an unparalleled amount of suffering in the village, only rivaled by Mother Miranda who, unlike Alcina, is a Villain with Good Publicity. Tellingly, Alcina is the only one apart from Miranda who Ethan outright calls a "monster."
  • Ax-Crazy: Despite her refined elegance and nobility, Alcina is without a doubt the most bloodthirsty and monstrous of the Four Lords. Short of Miranda, her body count is unmatched by her reign of terror upon the village, regularly kidnapping people for sustenance and her own sadistic amusement. By comparison, the other Lords may have sporadically murdered villagers within Miranda's interests, but they were largely secluded in their daily lives.
  • Bad Boss: As one of the female servants of Castle Dimitrescu can attest, chances are next to none you'll live for very long. It's noted in the diary entries of the castle's fearful chef that the slightest misstep will result in Alcina sending you down to her dungeons, never to be seen again. A servant was once sent to said cellars just for spilling soup. Considering Ethan comes across the vampiric Moroaica during his journey through the castle, all of which are female, there's little doubt Alcina and her daughters killed all of the staff prior to the events of the story.
  • Bald of Evil: After she transforms into her One-Winged Angel form, her still-humanoid torso is completely bald.
  • The Baroness: Cruel, sadistic, domineering, and beautiful, Alcina Dimitrescu is the head matriarch of the vampiric Dimitrescu family, and gleefully tortures anyone in her castle; she's an almost perfect incarnation of this trope.
  • The Beautiful Elite: She may be a murderous psychopath with almost no redeeming qualities, but she's a stunningly beautiful woman of noble background.
  • Blood Bath: She's never seen using it, but she's got a blood pool with candles and fancy statues about it, and it's even called the Room of Ablution (i.e. "bathing"). It also leads directly to her cellars, which are hip-deep full of blood.
  • Blood Countess: She's an evil, imposing aristocrat and matriarch who murders people and drinks their blood to maintain her health, keeps a bathing pool filled with blood, and owns a gorgeous and imposing castle.
  • Blood Knight: It becomes very clear she enjoys taunting her prey and takes delight in slicing them into pieces. This is also reflected when playing as her in the Mercenaries mode as she wildly cackles like a hyena while shredding Lycans into pulp, demanding more blood to satisfy her rage.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: After Ethan starts fighting back against her daughters' torture and is able to start killing them, she loses all sense of pragmatism and becomes increasingly obsessed with hunting him down, breaking him, and killing him as painfully as possible. Aside from defying Miranda's orders to keep him alive for the ceremony, this causes her to ignore several opportunities to actually kill him quickly.
    • When Ethan runs into her in her chambers, instead of using her claws to gut him like a fish, Alcina instead slams him through the floor, giving him a chance to escape. This is made more egregious by her yelling after Ethan that she'll find him and break him when she just had him in her grasp.
    • When Ethan is pulling a lever to open a gate, Alcina, who at this point has gotten the drop on Ethan, chooses to use her claws to slice off his hand and grab him, then throws him down the hallway instead of going for the kill, which gives him time to grab his hand and escape again.
    • After Alcina transforms into her draconic form for her boss battle, instead of just grabbing Ethan and throwing him to his death since the two are at the top of her castle by this point, she instead carries him to a more intact part of the castle to do battle with him. Twice.
  • Boring, but Practical: Her argument with Karl Heisenberg has her dismissing his elaborate methods of killing Ethan as being "gauche" and "bread and circuses". When he's dragged into her chambers by her daughters, she simply has Ethan strung up by meathooks through his hands, then locks the door behind her while she gets in touch with Miranda for further instructions. Granted, she never expected Ethan to free himself by bisecting his hands through the hooks, but it was still a better attempt than Heisenberg.
  • Breakout Character: As aforementioned, it's impossible to discuss Alcina without raising the topic of her popularity. Since her debut, she was quickly lauded for garnering a massive male and female following. She was also extensively (often exclusively) used to market Village and when Capcom found a non-canonical excuse for her to be playable, she was the first of the new characters announced in the Mercenaries update for the Shadow of Rose DLC expansion.
  • Catchphrase Insult: The word "manthing" is her go-to insult when addressing Ethan. It's not the only she uses, but the one she employs the most.
  • Cigarette of Anxiety: Dimitrescu is shown to carry around a fancy, long cigarette holder, which she takes a noticeable huff from to relieve stress.
  • Contractual Boss Immunity: Much like previous pursuer enemies like Mr. X and Nemesis, Alcina cannot be killed before her actual boss fight. The best you can do is stun her for a little bit- even with your strongest weapons- but she simply will not go down or give up her chase. In-game lore later found in Mother Miranda's research notes explain this is due to Alcina's impressive healing factor, allowing her to instantaneously recover from wounds before she can feel them.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: She heavily contrasts the Implacable Man antagonists of the franchise, but special mention goes to Jack Baker. Jack was once a loving family man who wouldn't harm anyone and would go out of his way to brave heavy weather in order to save people, but the Mold and Eveline turned him into a monstrous cannibal. Alcina doesn't give a shit about anyone but her daughters, actively brutalizes the village for their blood, and is a heavy misandrist. Considering the things she puts Ethan through, who at least forgives Jack when he discovers the truth, he gives no sympathy to her and her daughters. Plus, Jack is suggested to be an upper middle-class man at most, while Dimitrescu acts like a high-class aristocrat — castle, dresses, and all. And lastly, whereas Jack is fought in six (eight if including bonus game modes) scripted encounters, Dimitrescu is ultimately a Starter Villain who dies after her first and only boss fight.
  • Dark Action Girl: She isn't afraid to get into direct conflict with Ethan, actively searching throughout her castle for him with the intent to maim. She can also voluntarily transform into a humongous dragon-like monster and, had Ethan not been infected with the Mold, would have easily killed him as she attempted to drag him down with her as she plummeted to her death.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: For all the hell that she and her daughters give Ethan, she's this in the end (though to her credit, she puts up one hell of a fight). It's only after she's killed that the plot of the game is revealed, setting Ethan's adventure into motion.
  • Does Not Like Men: A lot of her dialogue towards Ethan and her fellow nobles imply this, with her and her daughters frequently referring to Ethan as "manthing". Whether her misandry is born from personal experience or arrogance is never clarified, but it's made pretty clear she's not fond of the opposite sex. Then again, she tortures and feeds on all of her female servants too, so she doesn't seem to like women much, either.
  • Draconic Abomination: Her mutated, Molded form is a gigantic dragon-looking monster with a face that opens up to reveal More Teeth than the Osmond Family.
  • The Dreaded: If Elena's description of the castle as "nothing but blood and death" is of any indication, she is widely feared by the villagers to the point they don't dare cross her path, lest they receive any of the brunt of her ire.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: She has a pale-white complexion, black hair, and is indeed a menacing, dangerous, and very violent woman.
  • Entitled Bitch: Alcina's personal diary found in her private chambers reveals she looks down on the other Lords, outraged Miranda demands she view them as her peers/siblings. As royalty, she believes her status entitles her to being above them and the only one worthy of Miranda's genuine admiration.
  • Ethereal White Dress: Lady Dimitrescu wears a long white dress. Humorously, if you shoot at her when she's stalking you, she will complain that you dirtied it.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Zigzagged. She is loyal to Miranda, referring to her as Mother and generally accepting of her role as one of her "children". However, she only does so to be in her good graces and get the best gifts and power. She doesn't accept the other Lords as her siblings (Heisenberg chief amongst them) and is not above protesting or flat-out defying her orders. She does aspire to become "eternally beautiful" like Miranda but sees her more as an acquaintance and benefactor than an actual parent figure (unlike Moreau).
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • For a sadistic and murderous woman, she is shown to hold a deep amount of affection toward her daughters. Her notes from her creation of the three are surprisingly warm, and she has a painting of the three displayed in the castle foyer's main entryway. She also wears a brooch of three black flowers near her heart in honor of them, and is furious when one of them dies by Ethan's hands, ignoring Mother Miranda's orders not to go after him for her daughters' sake. She mourns for them, and close-ups of her face as she chases Ethan show a mix of rage and sadness, complete with what appear to be tears in her eyes. In unscripted encounters within the castle, there's also a chance for Cassandra to call out for her, prompting her to immediately show up.
    • In addition to her affection for her daughters, Alcina may have also held some degree of motherly (albeit distorted) affection for Rose, as when Ethan enters her personal quarters, it becomes evident that she went through the trouble of having a custom cherrywood crib built for her, complete with plush satin pillowing and golden affectations, possibly indicating she accepted her as another sibling or perhaps as another child of her own.
Dimitrescu: Rose belongs to us now!
  • Evil Is Bigger: She is the tallest sentient humanoid character in the franchise, as revealed by Capcom's own Twitter, towering over everyone who isn't a B.O.W at 9'6 feet. She's even taller than Nemesis, for goodness sake! Because of this, and her snobbish demeanor, she both figuratively and literally looks down on those around her.
  • Evil Matriarch: She is this for the Dimitrescu family and is in no shape or form good, hunting down Ethan for a ceremony conducted by Mother Miranda.
  • Expy: Of Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist. Both of them are beautiful, sadistic, and bloodthirsty women with regenerative abilities which make them nearly invincible, and can extend their fingers into claws. Both of them are also the first of their respective groups to be killed off due to a combination of their sadistic qualities and underestimating their prey's tenacity. Both of them even share the same Japanese voice actress.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Freakish height notwithstanding, Lady Dimitrescu's human form still conforms to the classical European ideals of cold womanly beauty found in Greek and Renaissance marble statues, in stark contrast to how hideous a heart that body conceals. Ethan outright lampshades it when she transforms into a grotesque fungal-dragon writhing with tentacles and swarming with flies:
"At last, your outside finally matches your inside!!"
  • Fan Disservice: At first glance? Attractive in many ways. Her true, molded dragon form? The one now displaying her naked body? Absolutely NOT.
  • Faux Affably Evil: When Ethan first meets her, she acts like a dignified aristocrat. The more we see of her, the more this facade crumbles. Given a Lampshade Hanging by Ethan when she goes One-Winged Angel:
Ethan: Looks like your outside matches your inside now, psycho witch.
  • Flawed Prototype: Miranda's research notes indicate Alcina is the closest she's come to creating the perfect vessel for her deceased daughter's consciousness. However, even Dimitrescu is just slightly flawed enough that Miranda isn't able to use her for her ultimate goal; the blood disease she had before being infected led to her needing to regularly consume human flesh and blood in order to keep her Healing Factor stable.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: In the story, Ethan exploits her daughters' weaknesses to cold in order to kill them, but in the Mercenaries DLC, Alicina can summon them as Assist Characters to kill her enemies in and outside of the castle, with no ill effects.
  • Giant Woman: As revealed by Capcom's own Twitter, Lady Dimitrescu towers over normal humans at 9 feet 6 inches (2.9 meters) tall, having to crouch in order to pass through a normal door frame. In the Maiden demo, she's also able to easily pick up the Maiden by her throat and does the same to Ethan when she encounters him sneaking into her private chambers.
  • A God Am I: Alcina certainly seems to regard herself and her daughters this way, dismissively referring to Ethan as "the mortal" upon her first encounter with him, and later refers to him as a "human pest". Her years spent torturing countless villagers to feed off their blood has only cemented her divisive views toward other people. Even among the other House Lords, who are similarly supernatural, she appears irritated by their presence, though she seems to at least somewhat acknowledge Mother Miranda in higher regard due to her power and eternal youth.
Dimitrescu: I will become eternally beautiful, just like Mother Miranda!
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She is shown to have a violent temper when things do not go according to plan, screaming for Ethan's blood and hurling a vanity across her room in a fit of rage.
  • Healing Factor: Alcina has an extremely rapid regenerative ability as a result of her Cadou mutation. This is why she is a Giant Woman, as heightened regeneration equals larger size. Said note also reveals that she has a hereditary blood disease which interferes with said healing, and that her I'm a Humanitarian tendencies are needed to keep her Healing Factor in check.
  • Hidden Depths: For an aristocratic grande dame, Alcina's research notes on the Cadou reveal a surprising amount of scientific knowledge, using mutated flies from the parasite to create three daughters of her own. She's also a skilled winemaker, with her "Sanguis Virginis" vintage having been renowned in her time.
  • Hypocrite:
    • During her boss fight, she rages intensely at Ethan for wanting to save his daughter yet killing her own in the process, despite herself having murdered three innocent young servants of her castle just to create them. The fact she gave them new names makes it unclear if any part of them survived the process. Furthermore, she cruelly taunts him that he should give up his journey, stating that his daughter belongs to the Houses and Miranda now.
Dimitrescu: How dare you talk about saving your daughter, when you've murdered mine?!
    • She is dismissive of Heisenberg, believing him to be a "child" whose devotion to Miranda is questionable, yet her personal diary entries reveal a more insecure and childish side to her as well: the opposite of the personality she usually projects. Furthermore, she openly defies her superior's orders not to kill Ethan just so she can kill him herself, which proves her devotion to Miranda is just as questionable as Heisenberg's.
  • Iconic Sequel Character: She appears in the 8th (numbered) installment of the series and is easily its most popular. Capcom themselves noticed this and released information about her height, outfits, and even underwear.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Lady Dimitrescu is a cannibal who stores the blood of human women as wine, titled "Maiden's Blood", in the basement of the castle, with flooded cellars hip-deep in the blood of her victims. A late-game research note reveals this is a result of having a hereditary blood disease prior to her Cadou infection, requiring her to eat and drink large quantities of flesh and blood to keep her Healing Factor in check.
Dimitrescu: [gasp] Not enough blood! More! More blood!
Dimitrescu: I'll eat you up! Every last morsel!
  • Implacable Woman: Within her castle, she's effectively indestructible and will simply walk towards Ethan while shrugging off bullets. Even aiming for her head will oftentimes not stagger her, and the rare times it does will only be for a few seconds before she adjusts her hat and continues her pursuit.
  • Invincible Boogeymen: This game's version of Resident Evil's stalker enemy, who will pursue you during your time in her castle and cannot be fought until the scripted final confrontation with her.
  • Large and in Charge: Of her region. The over 9 feet tall Lady Dimitrescu is the ruler of her castle and commands her daughters to do her bidding.
  • Large Ham: Her grandiose personality is just as large as her height, dramatically declaring how she wants to kill Ethan. When she faces Ethan after he's killed one of her daughters, Alcina says this:
Alcina Dimitrescu: Rest while you can, because I will hunt you, and I will break you!
  • Last of Her Kind: She is reduced to this after Ethan has killed all three of her daughters. She is not happy at the realization to say the least.
Alcina Dimitrescu: The entire bloodline of House Dimitrescu is done in? By the likes of YOU?!
  • Laughing Mad: After she turns into her Molded dragon form, almost all of her dialogue consists of just cackling like a witch.
  • Life Drinker: Stated in Miranda's notes that her hunger for blood is due to a disease during her creation where she needs it to sustain her human form. This is why she has areas of her castle littered with "wine" barrels and a whole room filled with blood.
  • Light Is Not Good: She wears a white dress and has a snow-white skin complexion but is most certainly not a good person. Her dragon form is very pale skinned as well.
  • Mama Bear: A rather significant portion of her ire towards Ethan stems from the murder of her daughters, as she becomes increasingly unhinged and out for his blood when hunting him down. It's even used to make her a bit of a Foil to Ethan; just like him, she's fighting for her children. Of course, Ethan's kid is an innocent baby, while Dimitrescu's are murderous vampires, so there's still quite a gap between them. This also extends to gameplay terms, as she will immediately appear if one of her daughters calls for her help outside of their boss arenas.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: As if her elegant dress and luxuriously appointed castle weren't evidence enough, she's also fond of wine and bottles her own special vintage. Meanwhile, she looks down on Heisenberg for being uncouth "riff-raff".
  • Mask of Sanity: She initially presents herself as a sophisticated aristocrat, but as Ethan whittles down her patience and kills her daughters, she drops all pretense of refinement and class, and screams for his blood whenever she runs into him. She wants him dead so badly that she's willing to disobey Mother Miranda's orders of keeping him alive for the ritual, just for the sake of getting the personal catharsis of killing him. After Ethan stabs her with an ornate poisoned dagger, she transforms in mind and body into a voracious, deformed beast, solely dedicated to hunting down and devouring him in the most gruesome, painful manner she can think of.
  • Mighty Glacier: As a stand-in for the Tyrants she never moves at anything other than a menacing stroll when pursuing Ethan, and her size means she has to duck to through door frames. Being a giant bulletproof mutant with razor-sharp claws, she need only get within chopping distance to take chunks out of Ethan.
  • Mood-Swinger: Although at first she manages to at least put up a significantly more composed veneer, her mindset gradually descends into a sadistic, predatory fury, until what remains of Alcina's already tenuous sanity comes crashing down and she attacks him. Much of her dialogue consists of her switching between either being completely Laughing Mad, lamenting the loss of her daughters, gleefully reveling in the hunt or consumed with Unstoppable Rage. It's so bad that she chaotically switches between these moods within seconds, as if she has no idea what to feel in the situation.
  • Ms. Fanservice: This is half of the reason for her out-of-universe popularity, being a towering, domineering, middle-aged looking, vampiric, beautiful woman with an ample display of her breasts when she hangs Ethan on a hook and, during a cutscene where Ethan spies on her through a window, her Impossible Hourglass Figure complimented by her tight dress.
    • She still serves as this even as a playable character in The Mercenaries despite the first-person view. Unlike the other characters who are capable of looking down, Alcina’s own POV keeps her from doing so because her breasts are so huge that they block her view of the ground. This also serves as a Logical Weakness, as you have to constantly check to make sure no one is lurking below your eye line.
  • Mythology Gag: After her call with Mother Miranda, Alcina is so angry she throws her vanity at arm's length. In the Mercenaries DLC where she's playable, she can casually get a vanity out of hammerspace and throw it at her enemies to inflict damage.
  • Narcissist: She has paintings of herself and her daughters throughout her castle. This gets lampshaded when Ethan discovers the Golden Lady Statue: a sculpture in her likeness found in an area near Castle Dimitrescu.
Description: Statue based on Dimitrescu. That's narcissistic.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: She borrows the background and personality traits of 16th-17th century countess Elizabeth Báthory, a rich Eastern European noblewoman who was said to murder and harvest the blood of young peasant girls under the pretense it would grant her youth. As well, Alcina becomes a Draconic Abomination, while the Bathorys had once been members of the Order of the Dragonnote , and their Coat of Arms featured three dragon teeth, with Elizabeth's personal Coat of Arms featuring a full dragon.
  • Not So Above It All: As much as she looks down on Heisenberg for his relative lack of class & composure, she can definitely lose her cool as well. She more or less throws a tantrum, complete with chucking her vanity against a wall, when Mother Miranda forbids her from hunting and killing Ethan.
  • Older Than They Look: The Maid's Diary is dated 1958 — 63 years before the events of the game — and already mentions her as the mistress of the castle. Notes from Miranda reveal Alcina was 44 when experimented upon and turned into what she is, meaning she was born around 1919 and is around 102 years old by the time she encounters Ethan.
  • Ominous Walk: She never moves faster than a stroll, all the while screaming threats at Ethan.
  • One-Winged Angel: In true Resident Evil fashion during her boss battle, she turns into a draconic monstrosity that, unlike her daughters, can fight in the cold outside climate.
  • Our Centaurs Are Different: In her One-Winged Angel form, her armless, tentacled upper torso is shown fused to the spot between the wings of her Draconic Abomination lower body.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Lady Dimitrescu is perhaps the only Lord who recognizes the threat Ethan poses to the ceremony and outright begs Miranda to allow her to kill him — not (only) because he was able to defeat one of her daughters, but because she realizes Ethan's determined enough to make a mess of things even if he doesn't succeed. Notable because only Moreau attempted to kill Ethan right off the bat, with Donna trying to "play" with him and Heisenberg doing his best to persude him to band together against Miranda.
  • Promoted to Playable: She becomes one of the three new playable characters for Mercenaries in the 2022 Shadow of Rose update.
  • Proud Beauty: Despite being a gigantic woman and suffering from the inconvenience of having to crouch to enter doors in her castle, Alcina is proud of her size and looks down on those smaller than her.
Dimitrescu: [to Ethan] Those little arms and legs, I pity you.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: She is the ruler of her castle and stands above her daughters in authority, height and power.
  • Sadist: She enjoys torturing those around her, as shown by smiling gleefully when hanging Ethan up after cutting his wrists and sucking the blood from them. She also has torture chambers all over her castle.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Despite not being biological siblings, Miranda ordered the Four Lords to view one another as such. Although she is not shown to have this dynamic with Salvatore or Donna, she has great enmity with Heisenberg for Miranda's favor. They also happen to be the two most powerful and resourceful of the four.
  • Slasher Smile: She gives a cruel smirk when she's about to kill the Maiden moments before the latter was about to escape, savoring the death of the poor girl.
  • Small Parent, Huge Child: Though "adopted" when she was already a full-grown adult, and secretly at best regarded by her mother as a "false child" to boot; Lady Dimitrescu naturally towers over Mother Miranda due to the inhuman height her mutation caused her to reach.
  • Smug Snake: When things are going to plan, she is condescendingly smug and rubs it in others' faces.
  • Sore Loser: Heisenberg accuses her of being one when she protests Miranda's decision to have him be the one to kill Ethan. It doesn't help that she got angry enough to write in her diary that she believes she is not Miranda's favorite anymore — all because she lost her opportunity to Heisenberg.
  • Starter Villain: She's the first of the Four Lords that Ethan must deal with, though in defiance of this trope, she has one of the most complicated and longest segments in the game.
  • Statuesque Stunner: The most prominent feature of Dimitrescu is her gigantic height, which Capcom has canonized at 9'6 feet tall with heels included.
  • Stealthy Colossus: Despite being 9'6 feet tall and walking around her castle in heels, she manages to sneak up behind Ethan twice.
  • Stylish Sunhats: Lady Dimitrescu is elegantly made up in a white gown, sunhat, pearls, gloves, and makeup, whether she's lounging in her castle or hunting you through it with her claws out.
  • Super-Strength: While it isn’t shown frequently, Lady Dimitrescu is shown to be inhumanly strong, seeing as she can effortlessly lift a grown man by his throat and toss a vanity across the room like it’s a rag doll.
  • The Symbiote: Miranda's old research notes explain that Alcina's Cadou injection mingled with a "hereditary blood disease" from her noble family, which caused her to change into an extremely powerful quasi-vampiric being, rather than just kill her or turn her into a Lycan like so many other failed test subjects.
  • Tantrum Throwing: Ethan spots her talking to Mother Miranda, and after she's done, she tosses a vanity in frustration and wants to personally kill him. In the Mercenaries DLC, she can throw a vanity as one of her special attacks.
  • The Unfavorite: She wonders this in her diary, believing Mother Miranda held her in the highest regard among her "children" and is disappointed not being chosen to kill Ethan. A note from Miranda reveals all Four Lords have been nothing but experiments to her — though she does praise Alcina for almost being the perfect candidate to revive her true daughter. Despite this, the way in which Miranda words her medical reports on each of the lords, Alcina may still have been second place to Heisenberg.
  • Vampire Monarch: While not a true vampire, she is still a vampire-like lord of the village and commands legions of vampiric ghoul-like creatures with the Moroaicǎ.
  • Villain Has a Point: While it's mostly her just looking down on Heisenberg, she is indeed right that the man cannot be trusted as he has been secretly planning a coup against Miranda.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After informing Mother Miranda Ethan has escaped and murdered one of her daughters, she tosses her vanity across the room and vehemently exclaims Ethan will pay. By the time she goes One-Winged Angel, she completely throws away any semblance of sanity she might've had.
Alcina: Flesh, bones, I WILL DEVOUR ALL OF YOU!!
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: It's implied from one of her comments to Ethan in her boss fight that she can transform to and from her Draconic Abomination form at will. This is later confirmed in Mother Miranda's research notes, which state she is "arbitrarily able to control body transformation." Although it isn't exactly pleasant for her.
  • Wicked Cultured: Fitting for a villainess inspired by classic vampires, Lady Dimitrescu exudes sophistication in her villainous demeanor. Aside from her fancy clothes, long cigarette holder, and winemaking talents, she is shown to be an enthusiast of the arts — as evidenced by the library, piano, paintings, and statues throughout her castle.
  • Wine Is Classy: The only of the Four Lords with a known favorite drink, and the only one of actual noble descent. There is a file detailing the winemaking talents of House Dimitrescu, and her vintage Sanguis Virginis is an important puzzle item to proceed in her castle.
  • Wolverine Claws: She has the ability to extend her fingers into long claws with which she can penetrate the flesh of unfortunate victims.
  • Youkai: One of the key elements of her design, aside from Dracula, is the hashisakusama (literally "Lady Eight-foot" or "Madame Eight-foot").

    The Dimitrescu Daughters
Lady Dimitrescu's "daughters", all out for Ethan's blood.
  • Actually Not a Vampire: Alcina's daughters have a tendency to bite and feast on blood, but it's made clear they are not true vampires. They are actually swarm entities, their bodies made up of thousands of mutant flies This is the source of their immunity to firearms — the swarm disperses around the bullets. They are not weak to sunlight at all, but to the cold. Even Alcina herself is not a vampire but rather a woman who can control her parasite transformation and had a preexisting hereditary blood disease that requires her to consume human flesh and blood to stabilize her regenerative powers.
  • Alphabetical Theme Naming: Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters' names follow an alphabetical pattern: Alcina, Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The daughters' shapeshifting is because they are made of swarms of infected insects that consumed the original bodies of the infected women. Whether the flies are mimics or possess the memories of the three humans or the consciousnesses of the people that were consumed has continued in "them" is not clear. Other organisms infected by the Mold, whether directly infected or via a Cadou, are implied to have death-transcendent consciousnesses that are stored in the Megamycete, including narrative-critical Ethan Winters and his daughter Rose.
  • Artificial Family Member: Alcina's daughters are not hers by birth, rather creations she made by using mutated flies. She still loves them and treats them like her own, however.
  • Assist Character: Alcina can summon them to kill nearby enemies and bosses. Including themselves.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Bela is blonde, Cassandra is brunette, and Daniela is redheaded. Strangely, the portrait near the castle entrance shows all three of them with dark hair pre-transformation.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Even considering their blood-covered chins and psychotic behavior, they're still far more attractive than a sapient swarm of blowflies has any right to be.
  • Dark Action Girl: The three sisters are all armed with sickles, which Bela and Cassandra use on Ethan's legs during their introduction, and all three have the ability to disperse themselves into swarms of insects. They are dangerous and bloodthirsty women who act as secondary antagonists to Lady Dimitrescu.
  • Daywalking Vampire: They're killed by the cold rather than sunlight.
  • Delinquent Hair: A closer look at the daughters' character models shows that their heads are half shaved with the hair flowing out of their hoods being the only hair they have on their heads.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: They genuinely seem to love and respect their Alcina, despite being psychotic womanchildren who enjoy killing people for sport.
  • Excessive Evil Eyeshadow: All three of the daughters have black eyeshadow, which stands out against their pale skin, with Bela being the most noticeable.
  • Facial Markings: The three sisters have identical elaborate rose tattoos on their foreheads.
  • Flies Equals Evil: Justified. These flies are sentient, not animals, so they can be evil rather than just mindless animals.
  • Giggling Villain: They frequently indulge in taunting giggling when cornering their prey, such as when first meeting Ethan or when pursuing him in the halls of Castle Dimitrescu.
  • Happily Adopted: Even though they aren't her birth daughters, Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela dearly love Alcina, who returns the sentiment.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela are actually swarms of sentient, carnivorous flies created by experimentation with the Cadou parasite, who can take human form.
  • Leitmotif: A very Jaws-like theme (complete with "Psycho" Strings) starts up whenever the daughters are nearby.
  • One to Million to One: The daughters can separate into swarms of flies to fly around before re-forming in human shape.
  • Shout-Out: They seem to be inspired by the trio of vampire sisters/Brides of Dracula, as they are three seductive vampiric women beholden to the will of their corresponding Dracula analogue in charge of the castle. Their ability to turn into swarms of flies and re-form into human shape also recalls the way the vampire sisters are described as materializing from coalesced particles of moonlight in Bram Stoker's novel.
  • Sibling Team: Dimitrescu's daughters are all working together to kill Ethan and drain his blood. However, you never have to deal with more than one of them at a time.
  • Sinister Scythe: The daughters all use sickles to try and kill Ethan.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Official canon has the daughters all standing at 6' tall.
  • Synchronized Swarming: This is basically how the daughters move and act at all times. Part of defeating them is freezing them, which shuts down their ability to do this and "locks" them in a conveniently shootable human form.
  • Villainous Breakdown: During the boss encounters with each of the Dimitrescu daughters, all three of them start to melt down as they realize that they might actually be killed by this man-thing that's invaded their castle. But they nonetheless fight on, rather than escape.
    Bela: Not like this!
    Cassandra: No! It's a lie!
    Daniela: A dream...this is a dream!
  • Was Once a Man: There were three human bodies that were consumed by the flies. The flies themselves have long since reconstituted identical forms to them.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The daughters' weakness would be relatively easy to guard against in most situations... save for their location. They're weakened by the cold, so all Ethan has to do is either shoot a window out or otherwise expose them to the outside air. This freezes their insect forms into their humanoid shape and lets them be blasted to pieces.
  • The Worm That Walks: The daughters are swarms of flies with a shared consciousness that can camouflage themselves as human bodies, having consumed the bodies of young women.

Bela is Lady Dimitrescu's eldest daughter and the most level-headed.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When reforming after Ethan has tried shooting at her invulnerable form, she will sometimes deadpan that she hates stupid men. And if she succeeds in killing Ethan, she may complain about having to drag his body back to the kitchens.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She remains calm for the majority of the time she's hunting down Ethan, even when talking about all the ways she'll kill him. This goes away when he exposes her to the cold, at which point she flies into an Unstoppable Rage.
  • Does Not Like Men: Like her mother, she has a few lines of dialogue suggesting that she has a low opinion of men in general, but she gets the same kick out of torturing and killing Ethan for his blood as her sisters do.
  • Ominous Walk: Perhaps due to being the most level-headed of the trio, she seems to prefer this to her sisters' Flash Step. The way she can walk straight through the cell bars in the dungeons just adds to the effect.
  • To Serve Man: While Cassandra lives for the hunt and Daniela seems to believe her victims love her, Bela views Ethan as food first and foremost.
    Bela: You're tonight's main dish.

Cassandra is the middle daughter of Lady Dimitrescu and the most sadistic.
  • The Dragon: To Alcina, with her calling Cassandra and demanding that she brings Ethan's head to her. She is also the daughter you're most likely to encounter when simply roaming about the castle.
  • Egomaniac Hunter: She is in it for the thrill of the chase and the pain she can inflict. She does not take Ethan "ruining her hunt" well (prompting Extreme Mêlée Revenge and a unique animation where she bites her own fist in fury).
  • Loves the Sound of Screaming: One of her lines when attacking Ethan is, "Give me more of that beautiful voice!"
  • Sadist: Cassandra enjoys playing with and tormenting her victims before she kills them.
  • Warm-Up Boss: She is the first boss and is fought fairly early in the game, although the first one you actually kill is Bela.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: If Ethan spends a lot of time staring at her mother, she gives him an annoyed "Ugh...really?" before jumping in and biting him.

Daniela Dimitrescu

Daniela is the youngest daughter of Lady Dimitrescu and the most insane.
  • Alliterative Name: Daniela Dimitrescu.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Unquestionably the most insane of the three sisters, but also the only one to actually react to Ethan rendering her vulnerable (she will attempt to evade the player until she can get to the lever and close the skylight).
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: When Ethan has her on the ropes, one of the lines she can say is asking Ethan why he is fighting her, despite the fact that she, along with her sisters and mother, just tortured him and kidnapped his daughter.
  • Flirting Under Fire: She makes flirtatious remarks to Ethan even as they're engaging in a fight.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Just like the rest of her sisters, but she's notably the most childish. One of her unique animations involves actually stamping her foot when Ethan locks her into her humanoid form.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Once Ethan kills her, she pitifully whimpers about how she doesn't want to die before she calcifies.

    Ingrid / The Maiden

Ingrid

A young woman who was captured and locked in the dungeons of Castle Dimitrescu before attempting to escape to no avail.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: The same necklace she uses that is said to ward off evil, can be found on one of the many attacking Moroaică found lurking in the cellar of Castle Dimistrescu.
  • Came Back Wrong: After being killed by Alcina, she's eventually found as one of the Moroaicǎ within the castle dungeon, reduced to yet another feral, emaciated undead beast.
  • The Faceless: The Maiden demo gives her no identifying features, not even age or skin color. She only appears in the main game as a Moroaică, all of whom have features that are inhumanly pallid, shriveled and disfigured.
  • No Name Given: She is only known as "the Maiden", mainly due to being the playable character of the demo. Ethan can find her necklace on an enemy in the cellar, revealing her name to be Ingrid.

House Beneviento

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jgegvte_5.png
Situated over a lovely waterfall, past a graveyard and in an area full of fog, House Beneviento is the most reclusive of the four families, a family of dollmakers descended from village founder and folklore mutant Berengario.

"I'd make a much better daughter than Rose. Please won't you stay with me — forever?"
— Angie

The quiet and mysterious matriarch of House Beneviento. Shunned by others, Donna Beneviento took refuge with Angie, a doll made for her by her father. After the death of her parents, Beneviento completely isolated herself from society and was eventually taken under the wing of Mother Miranda.

  • Black Eyes of Evil: She's depicted as having black eyes in the portrait of her hanging in the Beneviento home.
  • Casting Gag: This is not the first time Paula Rhodes has voiced a Resident Evil boss who behaves like a bratty child that engages Ethan Winters in a psychological battle.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Believe it or not, she contrasts Eveline, the main antagonist in the previous game. Both are capable of making powerful illusions to disorient Ethan as he draws closer to them. However, Eveline who is a child only wanted a family after Mother Miranda abandons her to the Connections while Donna losing her parents to suicide turn her into a Shrinking Violet who confined herself in her parents' estate. Eveline is an Enfant Terrible who has a warped sense of family while Donna is a Psychopathic Womanchild who wants to play with Ethan even though it could end in either his or her death. In fact, Ethan defeating them ends their illusions once he gets close to them.
  • Dark Action Girl: Donna is a more indirect version of this trope compared to Lady Dimitrescu, her daughters, and their master Mother Miranda by puppeteering the various puppets seen throughout the house with her Mold powers attempting to kill Ethan.
  • The Dividual: Being a puppet and a puppeteer, Donna and Angie are effectively one character. Donna uses Angie as her proxy, but too little is seen of Donna alone to be clear whether Donna just speaks through Angie or if Angie has a personality of her own. It's to the point that after Ethan "kills" Angie with a pair of scissors in her boss fight, he wakes up to see Donna dead on the floor instead.
  • Duality Motif: Angie's face is somewhat shaped like House Beneviento's crest, with one half of her face being dark and crescent-moon shaped and the other half being brighter and sun-shaped. Donna's own face is a messier reflection of the same, with the Cadou covering the right half of her face.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Like Alcina and her daughters, her skin color is very pale. Her model is even colored this way, as is her appearance in her painting
  • Evil Puppeteer: For a given value of "evil". Instead of relying on brute strength and/or sheer size like the other three Lords, Donna Beneviento controls an army of puppets to do her bidding in conjunction with her psychological manipulations, to the point that instead of dropping a crystalized form of herself when defeated, Angie is her unique "treasure".
  • Filler Villain: Along with Lord Salvatore Moreau, she seems to serve as this, as the two of them are far less characterized (near-exclusively being in their relatively short locations) in between Alcina Dimitrescu and Karl Heisenberg. Their missions are the shortest, and they have very little interaction with Ethan at all.
  • First-Name Basis: Excluding Miranda, Donna is the only one identified primarily by her first name, mostly by Heisenberg.
  • Flat Character: Beyond her obsession with dolls and being mentally stunted from the loss of her family, very little is known of Donna's personality, with her only having one brief line as herself and interacting minimally with the other Lords through Angie. This lack of information or shown personality might be intentional to match the ghost theming behind her character.
  • Flunky Boss: Angie never fights back against the player, but she will send her puppet minions to bring the hurting onto Ethan if he delays in finding her.
  • For Want Of A Nail: By taking away all of Ethan's weapons, Donna puts him in his most vulnerable state of any point in the game. He would have been entirely defenseless in her boss fight if not for one mistake: failing to confiscate the scissors he finds as part of her puzzle, which he then uses to stab Angie to death.
  • Friendless Background: She has no friends despite her own wealth due to being reclusive and being alone due her parents' (and possibly Claudia's) deaths. As a result, she had only the family gardener for company. Her "boss fight" and refusing to let Ethan leave her estate until you defeat her indicates she does see him as a friend in a twisted way.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: Angie's definitely evil, but Donna comes across as relatively kinder than the other three Lords. She lacks Lady Dimitrescu's cruelty, Heisenberg's selfishness and showmanship, and Moreau's self-loathing, and, given her obsession with dolls and genuine desire to "play," comes across as an emotionally stunted, mentally ill child in an adult's body rather than a Diabolical Mastermind like her brethren. It's even unclear just how much of the weirdness Ethan encounters in her manor is Donna's own trickery or his own inner fears made manifest. She is also the only Lord Ethan shows no outward malice towards while he has plenty to say about Angie, calling the latter a “fucking monster” when stabbing her with scissors.
  • Lonely Doll Girl: She's very reclusive and has several dolls scattered both inside and outside her house. According to the concept art gallery, she made all the dolls seen in her house, barring Angie, who was a gift from her father.
  • Masking the Deformity: He wears a black veil to hide her horribly mutated and bloodied face. Good thing, too, because when the player briefly gets a clear look, it looks like this.
  • Master of Illusion: She makes use of hallucinogens in order to toy with her victims.
  • Nominal Villain: While Donna is the actual nominal Lady Beneviento, Angie is her mouthpiece and is the one to antagonize Ethan. Donna herself does very little personally to Ethan at all, and only ever addresses him once.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Once Donna is killed, all of the hallucinogenic yellow flowers she cultivates and controls are dead, particularly noticeable when looking at Claudia's grave before and after leaving the manor.
  • Odd Name Out: In the promotional puppet show shorts, everyone has a cutesy nickname (Big Sister Dimi, Heisen-san, Moreau-kun) except for Angie, who is still Angie. This is may be due to Angie already being a diminutive form of Angela or Angelina, meaning it is already a cutesy nickname.
  • The Ophelia: Donna is a "mentally underdeveloped", yet pretty young woman who is defined by her insane obsession with dolls and whose madness comes from a trauma of losing her parents at a young age. Like the original Ophelia, she also has a strong association with flowers, though they're a weapon of sorts for Donna.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: While Beneviento is not a ghost herself, her whole deal evokes the idea. She wears a full-bodied, black Victorian-era funerary dress, her illusion-powers allow her to appear and disappear and her Cadou parasite allows her to control her various dolls as though they were possessed by Vengeful Ghosts and the entire level is made out to be a Haunted House. Word of God says that "ghost" was the basic folkloric inspiration for Donna, and her original design was meant to make her the only living member of a ghostly family, an idea that was scrapped for being too supernatural for the likes of Resident Evil.
  • Perverse Puppet: Angie speaks in an entirely different-sounding voice and can move around on her own, even bleeding when Ethan stabs her. Though the other dolls in House Beneviento move and attack him as well, due to being infected with Donna's Cadou and remotely controlled, she's seen dead with a pair of scissors stuck in her forehead after he "kills" Angie, while the puppet lays on the floor untouched — implying that Ethan hallucinated Angie in place of Donna, but also that perhaps the two had a deeper connection.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: The one time that Donna herself speaks, she implores Ethan not to leave her. Angie does the same, only much more maliciously than Donna.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: Donna herself is quite childlike in behavior, choosing to play games instead of directly engaging Ethan, something noted in Miranda's medical notes on her. From what little is known about her, she wasn't always like this beyond being a Shrinking Violet, as those same notes also say that the result of her Cadou infusion was normal brain function with severe mental illness.
  • Puzzle Boss: Unlike the other three Lords, Beneviento's entire "boss fight" doesn't involve any actual combat. Rather, it's a combination of puzzle solving to get out of the basement and playing hide-and-seek with Angie until Ethan wins. To drive this point home, your entire inventory prior to entering the house is off-limits during this segment and your only weapon is a pair of scissors you picked up during the puzzles..
  • The Quiet One: She comes off the most reserved of the Four Lords as she lets Angie do most of the talking for her and has only one spoken line as herself. However, the things Angie says and does indicate a much nastier, more wicked side to Donna, if Angie's personality isn't independent of Donna.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Angie is very loud, has a tendency to cackle and screech, and does most of the talking for Beneviento, who is a Shrinking Violet.
  • Shrinking Violet: A rare villainous version. Notes left behind by Donna's gardener explains after the death of her parents, combined with the facial scar she has, she completely withdrew herself from the world until she met Mother Miranda. Played for Laughs in the third puppet show where the other Lords having an existential crisis to the point of trashing the set, she ends up being uncovered by accident while holding Angie's puppet and covers herself in embarrassment.
  • Significant Double Casting: In the English dub, Angie has the same voice actress as Eveline, rather than being voiced by Lady Beneviento's actress as in the Japanese version. While the two characters are not the same entity, they share a lot of thematic similarities. Both of them are violently insane, non-human girls who enjoy tormenting those they want as part of their "family". Both of them also antagonize his daughter Rose. Especially prominent in Village, as within the Realm of Consciousness it is Eveline and not Angie who is the master of House Beneviento, with the player being led to believe up until The Reveal that Angie is up to her old tricks again.
  • Timed Mission: If you don't find Angie quickly enough, you will be swarmed and attacked by the other dolls in the house.
  • Token Good Teammate: Donna is the least antagonistic of all the villains and is viewed by gamers as being the least evil of all the Lords, if not just an outright mentally challenged victim of Miranda. In fact, in Ethan's vision of Rose's last moments before being crystallized and torn apart, Donna herself is seen and present, but it's Angie who seems to claim Rose's crystallized parts.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Could have easily killed Ethan judging from the way she casually disarms him (or makes him think he is disarmed) but chooses to engage in a petty game with him instead, most likely due to her childlike mentality. Even when it becomes clear that Ethan can seriously hurt her, she continues to play instead of fighting back. It gets her killed as a result.
  • Tragic Keepsake: According to the family gardener, Angie was made by Beneviento's father and given to her. After his death, she would only talk to Angie until Miranda showed up.
  • Troll: Has her puppet Angie tells Ethan that she can be a better daughter than Rose for no other reason than this. As well, the first part of her level centers around forcing Ethan to solve an elaborate and extremely creepy puzzle centering around dismembering a life-sized doll of Mia, apparently for her own amusement.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Unlike the other Lords (as well as Resident Evil villains in general) she doesn't mutate into a giant monster to fight Ethan. Instead, she relies on mind games and doping him up with hallucinogens to first take his weapons before toying with him. She also appears to not share their durability given that Ethan takes her out with a pair of scissors, something even a garden-variety Molded or Lycan could easily survive. This is probably because of her dividing her Cadou among her dolls, making her a weaker individual than any of the other Lords.
  • Widow's Weeds: She's constantly seen in black mourning clothes, her face obscured behind a veil. This provides a contrast with Angie, who is dressed like a bride. Concept art notes that this was intentional, so Angie represents life and Donna, death.

House Moreau

Located in a reservoir past the windmills, House Moreau is intrinsically tied to the village, its members said to have been fishermen and physicians. Nowadays the House is isolated, and it is said that the lord who inhabits it is not the only monster living there.

The hideously deformed patriarch of House Moreau and the owner of a local reservoir.

  • Ace Custom: The M1851 Wolfsbane (which is a highly decked out and customized Colt Navy Ethan can acquire as a hidden treasure) actually belongs to Moreau, who acquired the powerful magnum to deal with unruly test subjects.
  • Acid Attack: His strongest attack during his boss fight has him climb on one of the buildings and create an acid rain that can easily kill Ethan if he doesn't take shelter.
  • Animalistic Abomination: He mutates into a giant monster resembling a cross between a fish and a toad, with a five-part Flower Mouth and a pale humanoid torso sticking out of said mouth like a tongue. It bears more than a passing resemblance to the redesigned version of the Hunter Gamma from the Resident Evil 3 (Remake), with a dash of Ricardo Irving's boss form from Resident Evil 5.
  • Animal Motifs: Predictably, fish, but also frogs and toads; he's a gruesomely clammy man with a swollen neck pouch and a snaggle-toothed mouth of small canines like a deep-sea predator, and the cluster of growths on his back even resemble a mother frog carrying her eggs. One could say that he has many similarities to that of a frogfish.
  • Bait the Dog: Played with and downplayed. He is never directly portrayed as a reasonable person, given how he is one of the four lords of the village and aided Miranda in the kidnapping and dismembering of an infant; nor does the scene where he meets Ethan do much to garner him sympathy, besides showing the sorry state he lives in. But given his pitiable physical health and less-than-ideal circumstances, as detailed in the other tropes in this folder, one might expect to learn that he was more of a victim of circumstance forced to do Miranda's bidding rather than a true villain, only for his research notes and diary to confirm that he was just as depraved as the rest of the four lords.
  • Bald of Evil: He's balding under that hood of his and is every bit as repulsive on the inside as he is on the outside.
  • Barefoot Poverty: He is barefoot, seemingly reflecting how he lives in squalor.
  • Body Horror: Most of the other Lords and even Miranda look human enough at first glance, only becoming hideous monsters after transforming. Moreau in his "human" form looks freakish even with his cape, and his back is covered in humongous tumor-like growths and even an eye, with tentacles later sprouting out of it. The artbook also states that because of his mutations, his brain has swelled into his back.
  • Butt-Monkey: In the Japanese promotional puppet show shorts. He's usually the one to receive the most abuse from the other lords, getting stabbed by a chainsaw, falling into a killing machine and getting his face mutilated with a spiked toothbrush. He's okay after all of it, though. Downplayed in the game itself, but it is made clear that the other lords and Ethan have less respect for him than for almost anyone else.
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: His eyes are an extremely pale shade of blue/grey and are pretty unnerving to look at.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Downplayed, as he is nowhere near as incompetent as the "moron" part of this trope would usually imply. Despite being mentally impaired and Miranda's notes stating him to have low brain functions, he is still a psychotic mutant capable of transforming into a giant fish monster. Additionally, he pulls off arguably the best-laid trap of all four of the lords. Instead of letting Ethan run around his territory unchecked, he baits Ethan with his piece of Rose and stalls him until the cave entrance Ethan used is blocked (Moraeu plugged it with a slime-like substance), forcing Ethan to have to enter the flooded reservoir, where Moreau would have the advantage in their fight due to his mutated fish form. Also, despite him being one of the dumbest lords, he is also capable of performing his own experiments related to the mold Miranda has been using.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Being one of the Four Lords makes him one of the villains. Yet, he's the most devoted to Mother Miranda and acts solely to win her approval.
  • Evil Cripple: A hunchbacked, mentally impaired man who, upon closer inspection, appears to be blind in one eye.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He has a very distorted, deep voice, most likely caused by his mutations.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Amongst the tumors that reside there, Moreau's back is covered with eyes. His One-Winged Angel form has even more eyes on its back.
  • Filler Villain: Along with Lady Donna Beneviento, he serves as this, as the two of them are far less characterized (near-exclusively being in their relatively short locations) in between Alcina Dimitrescu and Karl Heisenberg. Their missions are the shortest, and they have very little interaction with Ethan at all.
  • Fish People: His human form doesn't outwardly look like a fish, but there are a few aquatic reminders here and there: His mutations have given him a little fish tail hidden under his coat, and his fingers and feet are webbed.
  • Gonk: To call him ugly would be a massive understatement; even among the Lords, compared to Dimitrescu, Heisenberg, and Beneviento, Salvatore is by far the most visibly deformed. The Duke calls him a "mass of twisted flesh", and the game's art director Tomonori Takano said outright that their design goal was "creating the most repulsive character on Earth".
  • Hidden Depths: He apparently likes to watch romance movies.
  • Homage: As far as character design goes, he's probably the game's single largest Bloodborne reference. Specifically, his "normal" form resembles a male version of the Witch of Hemwick, with a similar hunched, decrepit posture, though the tentacled brain on his back also looks a bit like the Brain of Mensis. When he transforms into his boss form, he basically looks like the Brain of Mensis puking up the Orphan of Kos, as his body is covered in eyes, rotted flesh, and writhing tentacles, while his weak point is a pale humanoid upper body that he keeps hidden in his mouth. When he's stunned and this part of him is exposed, it's visually a dead ringer for the Orphan pulling itself out of its mother's body. Even after he dies, his crystallized remains are simply a clump of eyes, reminiscent of numerous ritual materials found throughout Bloodborne.
  • Horrible Housing: Compared to Dimitrescu's castle, Beneviento's mansion, and Heisenberg's bustling factory, Moreau lives in absolute squalor and spends most of his time confined to a miserable, run-down harbor in a local reservoir. His personal quarters consists of nothing more than a cramped, murky room adorned with a couple of decorations and an old television.
  • Involuntary Shapeshifting: In contrast to Dimitrescu, Moreau doesn't seem to have much control over when he mutates into his monstrous frogfish form.
  • Irony: Despite being arguably the dumbest of the Lords, Moreau makes few if any mistakes when he confronts Ethan — he immediately moves to keep Ethan from escaping once Moreau realizes Ethan has his flask, never once gets in a situation where he monologues instead of killing Ethan unless it is brought on by Power Incontinence, and makes sure to cover his weak point fairly well during his boss fight. In fact, he arguably does better in this regard than any of his fellow lords.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Downplayed, as he is one of the four lords who aided in Rose's kidnapping and the game makes little attempt to come across as a reasonable person. However, his pitiable circumstances as well as the scene where he meets Ethan at first make it seem like he might be one of the more sympathetic lords, with Moreau seemingly genuinely begging Ethan not to take the jar lest he be mocked and ridiculed by the others. Hardly a few seconds later, Moreau reveals himself to simply be baiting Ethan into a trap. Moreau's research notes reveal him to have bene experimenting on and even executing innocent villagers simply to please Miranda, further cementing Moreau as a monster.
  • Jiggle Physics: The tumor-like growths on his back are rather sensitive to movement when viewing his character model.
  • Mad Scientist: Has shades of this. Nowhere near the degree of Heisenberg or Mother Miranda, but Moreau was conducting his own experiments with the Cadou to turn people into monsters, which is very typical of a mad scientist.
  • Mental Handicap, Moral Deficiency: Moreau appears to be mentally disabled, as evidenced by his Psychopathic Manchild tendencies and Miranda calling his brain functions "surprisingly low". However, he's also intelligent enough to perform his own Cadou experiments and get a leg up on Ethan, so there you go.
  • Momma's Boy: Moreau seeks Miranda's approval and spends most of his screentime audibly yearning for it, expressing sadness over the fact that he was sent to deal with Ethan instead of staying close to her for the ceremony. He even started performing Cadou experiments of his own, trying to help her create the "perfect vessel" she needed. Even in his last moments, he's begging for her help.
Moreau: I'll make you proud, Mother. Watch me!
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate : Implied. His family were physicians and had a clinic in the village. It's possible Moreau himself was a physician as well, before becoming a lord. Regardless if who he was, he still acts a lot like this when you take into account the experiments he conducted on people, akin to a mad scientist or doctor.
  • Only Sane by Comparison: Out of all the other Lords, Moreau is the one who shows the most maturity and wisdom among them, as he neither bickers, messes around, or misbehaves in the slightest when compared to the others. However, he's not exactly above them or their cruelty, just more well-behaved.
  • Painful Transformation: Much more downplayed, but Moreau's mutations still cause him a considerable amount of discomfort, as he stumbles around, groaning in pain and puking.
  • Power Incontinence: Moreau isn't able to control his transformations, according to Miranda's medical report.
  • Prone to Vomiting: Moreau spends a good majority of his screen time throwing up.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: It's clear that he's very stunted emotionally despite his intelligence. He constantly seeks Miranda's favor like a needy child. When the player fights him in his mutated form, he shouts lines like "up and down!" and "I'm the best!" like a five-year-old playing their favorite game.
  • Skeletons in the Coat Closet: The art director's commentary states that his crown is made out of the bones of the villagers.
  • Smarter Than You Look: For a heavily mutated man with severe mental deficiencies, he can have moments of craftiness, most noticeably with his first proper introduction when he exploits Ethan to stay and keep talking before he's about to leave with the arms flask so he can plug the exit with his fleshy pulps.
  • Swamp Monster: His mutation allows him to turn into one, though he's fully capable of fighting on land even if he's more of a threat in the presence of water. Ethan defeats him by draining the reservoir, depriving him of his home-turf advantage.
  • Tattooed Crook: Revealed to have an elegant jellyfish-tattoo on his left arm, with the word "MOTHER" on a scroll wrapped around its tentacles, hidden beneath his big coat's sleeve.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: Moreau shuffles along on a pair of almost comically disproportionate legs. It's eventually revealed after he removes his coat that his body is of normal size; his tall hunchback is as a result of a gigantic cluster of tumorous growths.
  • Tragic Villain: The most heavily mutated of the four Lords, who constantly suffers from the pain of his mutation. On top of that, the other Lords treat him like garbage, and the "mother" he desperately seeks to gain the approval of barely even acknowledges him and secretly thinks he's stupid and a failure.
  • Undeathly Pallor: Although he isn't dead, his skin is still extremely pale.
  • Underestimating Badassery: On the receiving end of this. Based on the scene where they meet face to face, Ethan did not seem to consider Moreau a threat at first. In the same scene, Moreau reveals he had laid a trap for Ethan and blocks his exit, forcing Ethan into the flooded reservoir where Moreau ambushes him and has the advantage. It's downplayed, however, as Moreau still loses to Eathen in the end, but did still trick him better than most of the other lords did.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Mother Miranda. All of the other Lords (barring Heisenberg) have loyalty to her, but Moreau holds her in very high regard and will do anything to make her proud.
  • The Unfavorite: It's highly implied that Moreau is the least favored out of the Four Lords, which is why he constantly yearns for Miranda's approval. Miranda's research notes confirm that she considers Moreau the biggest failure of her main experiments, due to his random, disorganized mutations and the fact he has almost no control over them. And indeed, in her disgust with having to look at and interact with him is a constant reminder of that failure, she purposefully sent him away to live in his current squalid conditions.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: His mutated form grants him brute strength, acidic bile, and the ability to move swiftly in water. However, he has little to no control over when he mutates, and his transformation seems to be extremely painful to go through. When compared to the other tactics the Lords employ to stop Ethan (Dimitrescu actively stalks Ethan, Beneviento uses psychological tactics as well as her dolls, and Heisenberg sends his soldiers after him), Moreau's "tactics" mostly consist of "try to throw yourself at Ethan until he dies". Which, admittedly, is a tactic that works.
  • Vague Age: It's not clear how old he is supposed be or how long he has been a lord. He is clearly an adult but between his Psychopathic Manchild tendencies and the mutations he is suffering, it's hard to figure how old he is. Although going off his unmasked face, he looks somewhat middle-aged.
  • Villainous Breakdown: In his second diary entry, he finally understands that the ceremony to resurrect Rosemary will mean that his Mother Miranda will abandon him in favor of her real daughter, and he'll never be her son. What follows is an entire page of the word "No!", written eighty-four times.
  • Villains Out Shopping: According to supplemental materials, his favorite hobby is to hang back in his quarters, watching old romance movies and munching on gourmet cheeses. This is apparently what he was getting up to when Ethan sneaks in to swipe his flask.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Moreau wears no shirt. It would probably be hard to wear one, given the tumors on his back and all.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: All he does is for the sake of obtaining approval from Mother Miranda. Sadly, her notes reveal he never had it.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: He acts his typical piteous self when confronted and pleads Ethan to give him back his Flask of Rosemary... then begins laughing and reveals he's sealed the exits to the cavern while they've been talking.
"You're stupid. You talk too much."
  • Youkai: According to concept art, he's based on the Kappa.
  • Zombie Puke Attack: In his giant mutated form, Moreau can vomit his stomach bile at Ethan as a ranged option. One of his deadlier attacks has him climb on one of the sheds in the area and spit the vomit into the air. Where it'll rain down on the entire area and damage Ethan heavily if he doesn't get under a structure with a roof.

House Heisenberg

The house is less of a house and more of a factory located in the village outskirts. Originally a coal mine, the factory was built by the Heisenberg family, who became allied with the other noble families of the village to control it. The latest patriarch repurposed the mine into a factory, whose current project is best left not wondering about.

The patriarch of House Heisenberg and owner of a large factory. He is an ally of Alcina Dimitrescu and serves under Mother Miranda.

  • The Ace: Like with Dimitrescu, Miranda's research notes indicate he's one of the most powerful of the Four Lords and, unlike Dimitrescu, the one who has adapted most successfully to Cadou mutation, as he has extremely potent powers without any physical or mental drawbacks. She still considers him inadequate, though, for reasons that she doesn't specify.
  • Animal Motifs: He has a heavy association with horses, due to them being strong and hearty beasts of industry, as well as common symbols of freedom.
  • Arch-Enemy: Not Ethan, but rather Miranda for infecting and enslaving him.
  • Badass Longcoat: A long steampunk-esc coat that emphasizes his Gadgeteer Genius skills.
  • Blatant Lies: He encourages Ethan to enter his factory and assures him it's not a trap. It's not, though he does let Ethan fall anyway after Ethan refuses to cooperate.
  • Black Knight: Heisenberg fancies himself as a dashing knight, wielding a mighty warhammer that heralds a thunderous charge of armored zombie warriors on a crusade to "liberate" the nameless village of Mother Miranda's tyranny... to have his own autocracy take its place afterwards, of course.
  • Blood Knight: When Ethan and he finally come to blows he sounds like he's having the time of his life, boisterously proclaiming his might to Ethan while laughing in exhilaration of the unfolding brawl.
  • Body Horror: His One-Winged Angel form shows his flesh is stretched and woven like spider webbing over his mechanical parts, almost as if his biomass is trying to evenly distribute itself as much as it can over a form that's simply too big for it.
  • Breakout Character: Due to his popularity, Karl has been Promoted to Playable in "The Mercenaries" game mode.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: A lot of parallels could be seen between him and Lucas Baker. Both are Gadgeteer Geniuses with a penchant for death traps who largely preferred siccing their minions on Ethan while communicating with him from a separate location, and aren't actually loyal to their respective Big Bad, Lucas having been free from Eveline's control for a while and Heisenberg heavily resenting Miranda for what she did to him and wanting revenge. However, whereas Lucas was a complete Jerkass, Heisenberg acts Affably Evil towards Ethan, even offering that they can take out Miranda together, with him only becoming antagonistic and taunting after Ethan rejects his offer.
  • Dr. Fakenstein: Fitting the game's Gothic Horror aesthetic, Heisenberg is the game's answer to Dr. Frankenstein; an intelligent, ambitious scientific genius with a penchant for making abominations with science and dead bodies that he will dismiss if they don't meet his standards (calling out the Sturm for being a failed experiment) and is strongly associated with electricity (his organs producing an electric discharge that gives him control over metal).
  • Even Evil Has Standards: After a few failed experiments he considers using live bodies instead of corpses but decides to stick with previous versions. Taking into account how much he hates Miranda for experimenting on him, it might be out of reluctance to become just like her.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He sincerely thought Ethan would consent to letting him use his daughter as a weapon against Miranda. Even during his boss fight, he just mocks Ethan's parental love for Rose.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: In the Japanese and English version, he has a rather deep voice.
  • Expy: The English version's voice, mannerisms and inflections are clearly (and amusingly) inspired by that of the Large Ham performances of Nicolas Cage.
  • Faux Affably Evil: In a contrast to the other Lords, who make no attempt to hide their more unpleasant sides towards Ethan, Heisenberg tries his best to maintain a thin veneer of affability when interacting with him, even putting up the illusion of a Fair-Play Villain, implied through later interactions to be him reining in his disgust for Ethan to try convincing him to work together in taking down Mother Miranda. But every time something doesn't go how he wants, the façade quite quickly slips, lashing out with his Mask of Sanity cracking more and more until the time comes for Ethan to go after him, after which he pretty much drops the fake attempt at friendliness.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: He claims everything he's done is for the sake of fighting back against Miranda and freeing himself. Ethan makes it spectacularly clear that he doesn't care, especially since he plans to use Ethan's daughter as a weapon.
Ethan: I don't give a damn about your personal issues. I just want to fix my daughter!
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Easily in the running for most hated Lord amongst the Family, alongside Moreau; Angie gets huffy and Salvatore cringes away in fear when he yells at them to "shut the fuck up" during the meeting. In particular, Lady Dimitrescu detests him, and the feeling is mutual — their first appearance together has them verbally sniping back and forth, and a diary entry found in Alcina's chambers calls him "riff-raff" that "wouldn't know proper manners if they slapped him in the face". She even refers to him as "that fool Heisenberg" in a private phone call with Mother Miranda, showing that although she is a dutiful servant, she hates Karl so much she can't even pretend they're "family" to her own benefactor.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He started out as a child from the village who was experimented on by Mother Miranda. Lucky for him, he adapted to the Cadou with aplomb and is now one of the most powerful people in the world. Oh, and he also turned out to be an engineering genius.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: His short bio on the website describes him as a "genius engineer". Indeed, he's used his talents to create an army of cyborg-hybrid zombies, which are among the toughest enemies Ethan can face.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's a gifted scientist and mechanic who is able to create an rudimentary army of super soldiers from corpses Dr. Frankenstein style. But on top of that, Hisenberg is also a powerful mutant with Magnetism Manipulation and wields a massive hammer.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: In contrast to The Duke, Heisenberg's smoldering Cubano only serves to highlight his villainy. You can even find one of his cigars and sell it to The Duke, who will pay handsomely for it.
  • Homage: Visually resembles one of the Old Hunters from Bloodborne a great deal, what with his Badass Longcoat, wide-brimmed hat, and enormous mechanical warhammer which is a dead ringer for the Boom Hammer from that game.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The tank that Ethan used against Heisenberg was actually one of his creations.
  • Hunk: He's big, bulky and muscular, and has ruggedly handsome good looks that are only amplified further by his unkempt facial hair, scars and bad boy-esque charisma.
  • Hypocrite: For all the raving and grudges he got against Miranda for "treating him and the other "children" as tools and a means for an end", he treats his "children", the Soldaten, no better than "tools and means to an end" himself. Especially "Sturm", who practically is, for all intents and purposes, Heisenberg's very own "Moreau". However, as stated in his logs, his zombies stay brain-dead, having no awareness of their state, whereas Miranda subjugates living, thinking people with their own will, so he still has a point.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: His main goal is that he wants to be free of Miranda's rule over him and thinks Rose's power is the way to go. If it wasn't for the fact that he just saw Rose as a means to an end for his plans, and him ignoring that Ethan would no way in Hell allow his daughter to be used as a weapon, he could've been a potential ally to Ethan.
  • Irony: Of the four Lords, Heisenberg is the least outwardly mutated among them, easily able to pass as a regular human. And while the others have some form of physical or mental side effect from their mutation, he does not; he possesses great power with no real downside. Despite this, he alone despises Mother Miranda for what she did to him and seeks to kill her for it.
  • Large Ham: Neil Newbon voices him with the same exuberance and flair as he did with Nicholai in Resident Evil 3 (Remake). The result is a smarmy villain who treats his hunting of Ethan as a game show and absolutely lets loose during his boss fight.
  • Laughably Evil: His smugness, hamminess, smarmy personality, and unrepentant dickishness make him an absolute blast to watch.
  • Logical Weakness: His power is specifically magnokinesis. This means he is vulnerable to non-magnetic metals, as he is unable to manipulate them. Additionally, the tank Ethan uses is made up of enough plastic that Heisenberg must greatly exert his powers to be able to manipulate it. This weakness allows Ethan to finish Heisenberg, as he can't control the lead bullets fired from the tank.
  • Mad Scientist: A recording of some of his experiments comes off as pure Dr. Frankenstein, except proud of his abominable creations while striking an Evil Laugh for the sake of it when he finally achieves success.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: Heisenberg's body has organs that generate electricity and produce a powerful magnetic field. This allows him to control metallic objects, making them float and flinging them at his foes. Right before his boss fight, he summons a mountain of metal parts and weapons to merge with the Mold in his body, and he throws out electromagnetic shockwaves and shields of flying scrap to protect him in battle.
  • Mechanical Abomination: His One-Winged Angel form is a Body Horror-filled mess of fungus, gore, and machinery fused haphazardly together into a monstrosity with multiple buzzsaw-tipped arms, a giant rotary fan on his back, and incredible ferrokinetic powers.
  • Mighty Glacier: In his One-Winged Angel form, he's strong enough to take cannon shells to the face and get back up for more, but his attacks are slow and easily telegraphed. Ethan can easily run circles around him even when he loses the tank since the area they fight in is a wide-open field.
  • Moral Sociopathy: He mentions some standards of morality, such as when mourning his lost dignity and accusing Miranda of losing her humanity but can't comprehend things like parental love.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Werner Karl Heisenberg was a German theoretical physicist considered to be a key pioneer in quantum mechanics. He also made important contributions to other scientifical theories such as ferromagnetism.
  • The Nicknamer: He has a knack for giving demeaning nicknames to others. Heisenberg calls Dimitrescu "Lady super-sized bitch", Angie "Ugly-ass psycho doll", Moreau "moronic freak" and Chris "boulder-punching asshole".
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: His appearance and mannerisms might make one think of Nicolas Cage, something that Neil admitted was intentional, at least on his part.note
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: He loathes Miranda and the fact that he's likely to be killed and disposed of, even proposing to Ethan overthrowing her with his metal army and Rosemary's power. It's still for his own ends and survival more than anything else though.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: If one listens very closely, there are a few rare instances when you can hear Neil Newbon's natural English accent slip through, most noticeably his pronunciation of "Miranda" as "Mirander".
  • Outside-Genre Foe: His One-Winged Angel form is more like a boss from a Mecha game than anything you'd encounter in the Resident Evil series, even when factoring in the various Cyborg tyrants Umbrella created.
  • Promoted to Playable: He becomes a playable character in Mercenaries along with Chris and Dimitrescu.
  • Repulsive Ringmaster: Interesting example in that he is not one, but certainly puts on the airs of one. With bombastically hammy speeches to any who happen to be his audience, an insistent desire to make an entertaining show that everyone will enjoy out of hunting Ethan, and even says a variation of the classic Ladies and Germs greeting.
  • Sinister Shades: Wears a pair of round black shaded sunglasses even at night or inside, hiding his eyes.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Downplayed. He doesn't go overboard with swearing but is the only really foul-mouthed Lord among the Four Houses. He employs cusses such as "shit", "fuck", and insults like "bitch" whereas Dimitrescu — who looks down on him for his lack of manners — never rises above "damn" or "hell".
  • The Social Darwinist: His conversations with Ethan sum up his views as "survival of the strongest". They didn't start out that way, and he still harbors resentment for Miranda making him the way he is, but over time he had to get used to his new way of life with the parasite which forced him into this mindset. He's taken to building his own army as a way to make himself stronger so that he can finally kill Miranda and get out from under her control.
Heisenberg: The strong will destroy the weak, that's the way of the world.
  • The Starscream: Heisenberg has no love for Miranda, and his goal is to use Rose's power and the might of his metal army to overtake her.
  • Summon to Hand: Can do this using magnetism manipulation with his war hammer.
  • Villain Has a Point:
    • He himself may be an amoral asshole but he's not wrong about Miranda being quite the bad person in her own right even if her ultimate goal is benevolent. He's also very savvy to view Ethan as a useful ally in taking out Miranda, because Ethan actually does manage to kill her with some help from Chris's team after Rose drains Miranda's power.
    • Secondly, his point that Rose is a bioweapon is also correct. Despite Ethan's insistence that his daughter is not a weapon and refusing Heisenberg's alliance offer for that reason, it's shown in the future that she has manifested powers and abilities that cause the BSAA to treat her as a bioweapon, even still calling her Eveline.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Through prone to bursts of anger, Heisenberg only really loses it at the very end of his boss battle: he witnesses his factory and personal army being destroyed and then is killed by Ethan, ensuring his plans of revenge against Miranda are completely undone.
Heisenberg: No, no! This can't be the end for me! I... must... kill her!
  • Villain Respect: Ethan visibly impressed Heisenberg when his tenacity and resourcefulness allowed him to survive his supposedly inescapable tunnel of death; and outright earned his admiration when he managed to slay Dimitriscu, Beneviento and Moreau in combat; from that point onwards, he consistently treats Ethan with respect and as an equal, offering chance after chance for him to fight by his side as a brother in arms in spite of refusal after refusal, and expressing outright regret the moment he was about to kill him.
Heisenberg: It's a pity you didn't accept my offer: I was your only fan!
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Speaks with an indeterminable accent that can only be described as a cross between Nicolas Cage and Raoul Duke.
  • Worthy Opponent: Of all the vilains in Village, Heisenberg is unique in that he genuinely respects Ethan as Warrior, and his admiration for him grew with each Lord he slays on his quest to save Rose, outright coming to regard him as an equal when the Crusading Father cleared the final gauntlet of death that was his cyborg-zombie factory. However, since Heisenberg only wants to weaponize baby Rose, this respect is not mutual on Ethan's part.
