Rare Espers

    Brynn (Valkyrie)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brynn_sprite.png
"We're here to do one thing, and that's to win!"

Voiced By: Kira Buckland (English), Haruka Tomatsu (Japanese), Rhee Yong Sin (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Support

A rock guitarist on tour with her partner Sieg, Brynn awakened her Esper abilities when the pair's venue came under attack by Miramon. Brynn is the first Esper you start the game with; she's a support Esper with strong single-target damage and the ability both to empower her allies and weaken her foes.

  • Cold Edge attacks an enemy twice, dealing 50% of her attack level, and has a percent chance of slowing her target's speed for the next 2 turns.
  • Rock'n'Roll grants Brynn and both of her allies a boost to their attacks for the next 2 turns.
  • Advent of the Goddess deals 250% of her attack level to an enemy and inflicts freeze for one turn.

  • An Ice Person: Her attacks all have ice properties, and her third spell inflicts freeze.
  • Beat the Curse Out of Him: Does this to Sieg at the end of the story to bring him back. She's fairly beaten up herself by that point, and passes out before she can see if it was successful.
  • The Bus Came Back: After a long absence as a main character in the main story, she comes back in the Devouring Beast event. In her message history, she tells Tang Xuan that she simply is too inexperienced to be put in a lot of missions explaining her long absences, unlike Tang Xuan, who by then was being run ragged by constantly going into serious missions.
  • Childhood Friends: With Sieg. While he appears to have been an adult when they met, or at least an older teen, Brynn was a child. Per Brynn's description, the two have been inseparable since.
  • Crutch Character: She gets easily outdone by other Espers ahead of her rarity. In fact, Dhalia - another Support Esper who can be easily obtained through Ripples - literally does everything Brynn does but better.
  • Demoted to Extra: After coming back for Devouring Beast, the game more or less drops her story mode importance over the amnesiac man (the player) taking a bigger role, and he's not even an Esper.
  • Deuteragonist: Alongside Q, she's this in Devouring Beast.
  • Dual Wielding: Her guitar turned into a big axe that she can divide in two to wield a piece on each hand.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: She has a habit of saying "frick". Averted by Devouring Beast, when she describes the Shadow Decree's actions as "doing a lot of shit."
  • Instrument of Murder: When awakening as an esper, her guitar was partially transformed into a battle-axe.
  • Meaningful Name: "Brynn" alludes to the Valkerie Brynhilrd, which is even more fitting next to her best friend Sieg (being short for the warrior Siegfried).
  • Memento MacGuffin: Her necklace was an accessory (of two) given to her by her parents when she was orphaned, despite the fact they're actually pretty cheap. She gave the other one to Sieg as a sign that they were friends for life.
  • Out of Focus: Once the story mode is done, you'll very rarely ever see her in any other event/sidequest stories or Esper episodes, though this is finally averted when she returns in Devouring Beast.
  • Performance Anxiety: This only seems to happen to her when expectations are high for certain concerts. In one little story with Lucas and Ahmed, she began to feel this after Lucas started improvising for getting too much into the zone.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Her transformation resulted in a pair of wings sprouting from her lower back.
  • The Power of Rock: A rock musician by trade, she looks and acts the part too, dressed in punk fashion and carrying her guitar wherever she goes.
  • Starter Mon: One of the four Espers given to the player from the start.
  • True Companions: With Sieg, whom she has formed a rock n' roll duo with.
  • Valkyries: Her design and skills all evoke classic depictions of Valkyries; she has a pair of angel wings (a common artistic choice when depicting Valkyries), fights with a battle axe (a weapon associated with Vikings and Norse warriors), has ice powers (referencing the Norse climate), and constantly buffs her whole team (evoking a Valkyrie's preparing warriors for the battle of Ragnarök). Her name and pairing with Sieg also alludes to The Ring of the Nibelung with the pairing of the valkyrie Brünnhilde/Brynhildr and the warrior Siegfried.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Should she arrest Valeria prematurely, the rampages continue at Graywater even after a week, and Raven decides to assign her to simple Miramon exterminations for her inexperience at being deceived.

    Drew (Anubis)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/draw_anubis.png
"Let me organize the afternoon tea."
White Reaper

Voiced By: Karlton Sheley (English), Hiro Shimono (Japanese), Choi Nak-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Fighter

A butler, as well as operations lead, for the Esper Union. He was formerly the butler of House Ramses and Ollie's caretaker. Channeling the god of death, Anubis, has changed Drew into a humanoid jackal.

Drew is a fighter whose spells can potentially decimate the entire enemy team, getting consecutive kills one after the other.

  • Piercing Strike deals damage to an enemy that's equal to 100-130% of his attack level. If a critical hit lands, then the ability reduces the cooldown of Death's Judgment by one turn.
  • Shadow Shock strikes an enemy, doing 200% of his attack level with a 70-85% chance of lowering their defense.
  • Death’s Judgment'' deals damage to an enemy that's equal to 220-260% of his attack level. If the enemy dies, Drew does a bonus attack against a random enemy and does 150% attack. The bonus attack can be triggered twice within a turn.

  • Artwork and Game Graphics Segregation: He has a total of three variations regarding his eyes:
    • His "The Show Begins" appearance depicts him with purple eyes with green pupils.
    • His in-game art has the above, except his pupils are white.
    • His in-game model changes his eyes to all white without pupils.
      • At least, in general, the tone of his dark skin can either be darker or lighter.
  • Battle Butler: He tends to the Esper Union's HQ outside of missions and was previously the head butler of the House Ramses before its downfall. When on the field though, he's a deadly swordsman and a strong pick for DPS.
  • Beast Man: His esper transformation changed him into a humanoid jackal, much like the god Anubis himself.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: He's the one who sends notifications to the player (calling them an Esper), despite the player not being an actual character within the game (Brynn is her own person).
  • Dance Battler: At one point, his fighting style is described as him dancing while slashing his foes.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: As an avatar of the Egyptian death god Anubis, Drew has a very eerie appearance and has shadow-based attacks. However, he's firmly on the side of good and works for the heroic Esper Union.
  • Expressive Ears: Invoked to a point. Q points out to Lucas that it's easy to tell Drew's moods with the way his ears move, though it can be very confusing and not indicative of his moods.
  • It's Personal: Has a vendetta on Leon, who was the one who destroyed House Ramses.
  • My Greatest Failure: His failure over preventing the fall of House Ramses weighs heavily in his mind. Far more so when he was unable to serve Ollie, who despises Drew for not saving his father.
  • Playing with Fire: Drew's attribute is Inferno and purplish flames appear when he attacks.
  • Pretty Butterflies: A mystical purple butterfly flies around him (as shown in the picture).
  • The Reliable One: He knows absolutely everything about every Esper in the Union that he's often the one people come to ask for answers to their problems.
  • Series Mascot: He's on the game's icon and appears in most of the advertisements. In the story mode proper, after Q has to back out from sustaining grave injuries, he's the only character next to Brynn to stay around for the rest of the story. He's even given more focus when his protegee Ollie comes into the story for several chapters.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Despite being a rare esper, he is easily one of the best units in the game and you are assured of getting him upon starting out. He is often seen in plenty of PvE content due to his low cooldown defense break and massive single hit damage, and is seen a lot of use in Cube Miracle because of how Death's Judgment works with multiple runes, cleaning mobs quickly. His choice of relics are simple and his desired stats are easy to work with.
  • Starter Mon: One of the four Espers given to the player, though he joins a bit later in Chapter 1.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: The Show Begins intro has Melanie describe him as this:
Melanie: [Brynn's] partner, Drew, is one, big, scary jackal... I'd like to have him for dinner.
  • Trademark Favorite Drink: He loves tea. He also loves his talk of tea that, at one point, he bores Q's audience when he goes at length what he does in his mornings involving tea.
  • Younger Than He Looks: Between his manner of speaking, and Q constantly calling him "Old man", you'd think Drew would be elderly. Would you believe he's 35?

    Q (Eros)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/q_eros.png
"Love? Or the fear of losing it?"

Voiced By: Alejandro Arias (English), Natsuki Hanae (Japanese), Shim Gyu-hyeok (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Support

A young-looking social influencer who happens to be an Esper Union Ops Chief, he joins Brynn in her search for Sieg.

Q is a Support Esper who's able to deal damage, with his Ultimate, Joke of the Aether forcing two enemy targets to share damage. With this and rebuffing them, he and his allies are capable of doing large damage.

  • Lover's Curse does damage to an enemy equal to 120% damage of Q's attack stat with a 75& chance of lowering their defense for 2 turns.
  • Heartbreaker deals damage to all enemies equal to 100% of his attack stat with a 75% chance of lowering their attack for 2 turns.
  • Joke of the Aether Locks onto an enemy and picks another randomly right before it deals damage to both equal to 180% of his attack stat and inflicting the Link statusnote .

  • Attention Whore: Due to his Selfie Fiend nature, though it's not as bad as David's (though barely).
  • Birds of a Feather: He is able to relate with Liam by bringing up the troubles Q went when he transformed and changed his whole life, though he manages to teach Liam that, while forgetting the past shouldn't be done, it's better to look to the future and reshape life to something good.
  • Blessed with Suck: He considered his Esper transformation to be this, since the first thing that went wrong was his girlfriend dropping their relationship because dating a "kid" like him would probably make it punishable by law. Only after a time did he start to make the best of it and became a vlog sensation.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He is introduced by saying he heard by someone hot is joining the Esper Union and asking if she's willing to wear a bikini for his vlog as he films. Q then squees over Brynn's wings and asks if he can squeeze them and Discboom calls him out on his creepiness. When he first meets Celine in Chapter 2, he compliments her by calling her a 'perfect snack' before remembering to say that Brynn's squad needs his help. While Celine doesn't seem to be bothered, she shrugs off his remarks.
  • Deuteragonist: Alongside Brynn in Devouring Beast.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite his snarky, pervy attitude, Q has a more tender side.
    • In his Careers section, it's mentioned that even though he gets annoyed about the shenanigans of his Esper Union colleagues, he is relieved that he's still in a place where he belongs, especially since he knows that everyone at the Union has a Dark and Troubled Past and their own struggles.
    • Out of all of his mischievous online antics, sometimes he genuinely wants to cheer up his viewers and finds that laughter is the most beautiful sound.
    • In Chapter 4 when Brynn's team ventures into the abandoned Hazlitt, he soars up to see the sight of the ruined city and sighs at it, depressed over how it got even worse. In particular, he recalls that he and his close friend, Joe, promised to escape the city together during the Hazlitt Migration but the latter decided to stay. It led to a fight about how Joe backed out of his promise and that was the last time Q saw him prior to returning to Hazlitt and he's still upset about losing his friend.
    • He makes a breakthrough with Liam relating his own experiences when his transformation had made him lose a date with a girl who refused to go out with him looking like a boy (she though it'd be punishable by law) but Q managed to push forward because his friends supported him, which is why he wants Liam to know his sister may have a temper but knows she dearly wants to help him.
  • Irony: Despite being the Esper of the Greek god of love, snooping through Tang Xuan's phone in Sea of Sorrow reveals that Q's only ever been in one relationship. Not only that, but the relationship only lasted 10 hours because Q underwent his Esper transformation that very night, and his date presumably ditched him afterwards.
  • It's Personal: He's at odds with Anesidora for experimenting on his friend Joe, which led to his death.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: After the death of a close friend, Q became cynical of humanity (it's even mentioned in his profile that his favorite is cynicism). However he didn't want to stand idly when tragedy happens, so he worked hard to become an Ops Chief and believes that while the world doesn't lack love, it lacks people willing to leave their comfort zones to inspire others, which is the change he hopes that'll inspire the world.
  • Love God: Q is the representation of the Greek love god, Eros, thus his attacks are love and heart-based and he has a pervy, Casanova Wannabe attitude. His Ultimate, Joke of the Aether forcibly links two enemies up, bringing to mind of couples and how love gods tend to be The Matchmaker.
  • Not Growing Up Sucks: Q was once angsty over his youthful appearance brought upon by his Esper Transformation as it made him believe that he's a freak. However, upon joining the Esper Union and seeing that there are other 'freaks' like him, Q became relieved to be somewhere he belongs and thus implied that he accepted his appearance.
  • One-Letter Name: His name is just Q. Whether or not this is short for something hasn’t been elaborated on.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite looking like a young child, Q is actually 26 years old.
  • Put on a Bus: By the conclusion of Chapter 4, he's injured by Leon and has to be put in recovery. He only returns during the last chapter.
  • Sadly Mythtaken: Eros in Classical Mythology is usually depicted as an attractive young man. The idea of Eros/Cupid being a Winged Humanoid with the appearance of a child is a modern invention.
  • Token Mini-Moe: He's the only playable character who resembles a child and has an overall cutesy appearance despite his actual age. In fact, at the end of Chapter 1 where Brynn and her companions celebrate her officially joining the Esper Union and forming a squad by toasting their drinks, Q is short enough to the point he needed to stand on the still as he toasted.
    • His second album art reveals his previous appearance before his Esper transformation.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Q's impulsive pranks such as taking Brynn's necklace and having pervy tendencies have left him a jerk loathed by others. Though this is not always the case.
  • Selfie Fiend: His victory animation even pictures him taking a selfie with a peace sign.
  • Skewed Priorities: The Show Begins opening has him repeatedly taking selfies and video while Brynn and Drew are fighting Miramon. Hilariously, as they and one large Miramon are about to clash, they all stop when Q's camera flash goes off to look incredulously at him:
    Brynn: Really?
  • Starter Mon: Q is one of the four Espers obtained for free by clearing the first story chapter. He's obtained by clearing the sixth stage specifically.
  • Winged Humanoid: He has wings sprouting out of his head that he uses to float and fly, which fits in how Eros of myth is usually portrayed as a winged human.

    David (Jason)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/david_sprite.png
"I'm going to become an actual hero."

Voiced By: Antonio Greco (English), Tomokazu Sugita (Japanese), Han Man-joong (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Fighter

A former teen idol obsessed with his looks. He is a fighter Esper who thrives on stealing buffs from foes while empowering himself.

  • Roundhouse Dance attacks an enemy, dealing damage based on David's ATK. It also has a chance to inflict ATK Down.
  • Moonwalk will dispell a debuff from David and taunt a random enemy if David is unable to take action before his turn starts. When ascended, this ability has a chance to trigger whenever David is attacked.
  • Curtain Call attacks an enemy three times, each hit dealing damage based on David's ATK and stealing a buff from the target. David then does a finishing blow, dealing more damage and stunning the target. This ability also lowers the target's AP by a certain percentage for each buff stolen from them.

  • Attention Whore: He (and Lucas) tries to shove himself into one of Q's video vlogs, despite Q's annoyance and attempts to flee from him.
  • Broken Aesop: He tells Q that all the good photos he took with him (where David appeared just fine but Q repeatedly got bad shots) were pretty good because many people following David's social account commented that they were works of art and that it's worth the risk to feel optimistic...except, as Q pointed out, it worked for David because he had pretty good shots, not Q himself.
  • Chaste Hero: Has no idea that his best friend Chloe, the only one who gives him harsh comments in his posts in an effort to get him to come to her Fashion Studio to treat him, is secretly in love with him. He does believe she loves him, but only through stuff that makes her roll her eyes. This is a nod to the Greek hero Jason, who later came to marry Medea (whom Chloe's powers are based from).
  • Dance Battler: A very dedicated one, though not above asking Q and Lucas many times to come watch him dance, annoying them when he dances too much and ignores them completely.
  • Deuteragonist: Alongside Mona, during Bemusement Park.
  • The Narcissist: So much that seeing a small pimple on his face panics him. However, he still risks his looks in the heat of battle.
  • Perpetual Smiler: He will always attempt to keep on smiling in order to make others happy around him, but dreads the day someone may take an unflattering picture of him.
  • The Pollyanna: Believes that people will rally behind him as long as he can keep up a positive attitude. But when he's alone, his face reflects the burdens placed on his shoulders.
  • Rise of Zitboy: Even though he's matured, the sight of a small pimple makes him feel like everything's over.
  • Those Two Guys: With Lucas, often getting on Q's nerves.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Soda. He fears that there may be a connection between soda causing pimples.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Heavily invoked and Played for Laughs to the audience. In his diary entry, he complains so much that his journey out of adolescence has been one pimple after another.
  • Unknown Rival: Towards Leora, only because she's more popular in the news, though she has no clue about this rivalry.
  • Wacky Sound Effect: For some strange reason, his Moonwalk skill makes him do a weird high-pitched "brr!" sound that it's become a point of ridicule in his reviews.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He's deathly afraid of ghosts and is a shivering mess for almost the entirity of Bemusement Park. Doesn't help that Mona constantly teases him about it.

    Helena (Helen)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/helena_sprite_2.png
"What would you like me to cover in our next edition?"

Voiced By: Breanna Macdowall (English), Haruka Tomatsu (Japanese), Park Go-woon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Support

A famous podcast host from rural origins. Helena is a support who focuses on healing one ally the most from everyone else in a group.

  • Poetry deals damage equivalent to a percentage of Helena's ATK and also dispels a buff from the target.
  • Downfall attacks an enemy twice. Each hit deals damage equivalent to a percentage of Helena's ATK and lowers the target's AP.
  • Whispered Blessing heals the whole party for a percentage of their max HP. One selected party member gets healed more than the others. Ascending this ability also grants the party C. RATE Up for a short while.

  • Be Yourself: Due to her rural roots, she presented herself as an urban socialite to conceal her real roots until she grew sick of her phony persona and started sharing tips on fashion, brands, and accessories affordable to the general public.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Q have similarities as social media influencers.
  • Cassandra Truth: Her own mother doesn't believe that she's working for the Esper Union at all, even when told otherwise.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Parent: Her parents would call her serendipitously for trying to change herself from her small-town values.
  • Healer Signs On Early: She has a healing-focused moveset and can be obtained for free by playing through the first chapter of the story.
  • Nice Girl: Despite her looks and mannerisms, she happily lends a hand to her own rural town by promoting their produce in her own livestreams.
  • True Companions: With Ashley, who pulled her out of her downward spiral and taught Helena that those who protect others will shine the brightest in people's eyes.

    Chang Pu (Yao Ji)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chang_pu_sprite_2.png
"The flowers say spring will come."
Lilac Twist

Voiced By: Valerie Shyokina (English), Aoi Yūki (Japanese), Lee Sae-byeok (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Support

A sweet girl in tune with nature. Chang Pu is a support Esper who specializes in healing allies, either everyone by a bit or one person by a lot.

  • Orb of Vaxar deals damage equal to a percentage of Chang Pu's ATK and has a chance to steal some of the target's AP.
  • Restoration heals an ally equal to a mix of their Max HP and Chang Pu's ATK. Target gains extra healing for every certain percentage of their Max HP lost.
  • Prayer of Renewal heals the party equal to a mix of their Max HP and Chang Pu's ATK. When ascended, the ability also grants the party with Immunity.

  • Birds of a Feather: She shares many traits with Aurelius, from their social shyness to their fondness of plants.
  • Caring Gardener: She’s a very sweet young lady and her kindness extends to the plants in her care.
  • Daddy's Girl: Adores her father Yi An so much.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: A rare aversion. It's noted that she's one of the lucky ones to have had a nice childhood growing up, whereas the majority of the Esper Union certainly did not and suffered many different problems throughout their lives due to Miramon.
  • Green Thumb: Very much attuned with plants, so much so that the Esper Union is constantly filled with the pleasant aroma of nature.
  • Nice Girl: She's so caring of others that she sends potted plants of their favorite flowers on their birthdays, with a small card detailing how to care for the flowers sent to them.
  • Shrinking Violet: When not surrounded by plants, it's difficult for her to overcome her shyness around her coworkers.

    Bardon (Baldr)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bardon_baldr.png
"I'm just happy to use my powers to help."

Voiced By: Nathan Nokes (English), Yūki Kaji (Japanese), Kim Sol (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Defender

An optimistic man who believes himself to be a superhero, brother to Hall. He is a defender Esper who counterattacks whenever an ally's HP is low.

  • Lightshield deals damage to an enemy based on Bardon's ATK, and has a chance to stun them.
  • Honorbound is a passive ability. If an ally's HP is below a certain amount and they get attacked, Bardon will throw his shield at the attacker, dealing damage based on a mix of his ATK and DEF. This ability can only occur once per turn. When ascended, it also has a chance to Taunt the attacker.
  • Rise to Honor deals damage to an enemy based on Bardon's ATK, and grants DEF Up to the party.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Lost his left arm to a Miramon that bit it off. He was outfitted with a mechanical arm by Chalmers.
  • Birds of a Feather: She gets along well with Ife since both of them are huge movie fanatics. Ife's episodes have Bardon as a Recurring Extra.
  • Blinded by the Light: His shield can release a bright light to disorient enemies. It's the reason Lightshield is able to inflict Stun.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Hall's Cain.
  • The Hero: Perhaps invoked. Due to his fascination for superheroes when he was younger, he adores fashioning himself as one. Fittingly, the Norse god Baldr was known for his light, wisdom, and courage.
  • Heroic BSoD: In Warm Winter, he is completely broken apart when he's unable to save a dying cat after a Miramon attack had killed its kid owner and their family. He realizes through Hilda that, despite the fact he couldn't even save a cat, he subconsciously believed himself to be a god that could do anything due to his Workaholic attitude of being The Hero taking a toll in him.
  • Large Ham: Has a habit of shouting very loudly, to the chagrin of his coworkers who can't tolerate him when he is put on consultation duty for Espers interested to join the Union.
  • Light 'em Up: He uses his shield to wield light based powers in combat.
  • Light Is Good: He's dressed in all white and has light based powers, while also being a member of the Esper Union. This is because Baldr is the Norse God of light, among other things.
  • The Pollyanna: To a very ridiculous degree. He didn't even notice how apart he had grown from his brother Hall - whom Bardon doted on a lot - until it was too late when he was attacked by Hall's arrows.
  • Promotion to Parent: He and his brother Hall are stated to be without family, making Bardon look after Hall, until Hall deserted to the Shadow Decree.
  • The Rival: Is this to Catherine, whom he often comes to blow with.
  • Those Two Guys: Has this dynamic with Jin-hee, who's also in the same class as him.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: His passive has him throwing his shield as a counterattack to defend an ally.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: According to Gaius, Bardon is good enough about thinking how to properly attack, but he takes too much time thinking that it leaves himself open to attacks.
  • Workaholic: His schedule is so busy with work that he rarely has time to watch action movies.

    Chalmers (Idun)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chalmers_sprite.png
"You need the means to work together against the Miracles."

Voiced By: Micah Mason (English), Akira Ishida (Japanese), Jang Seo-hwa (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Fighter

A researcher devoted to his work, slowly coming back to trusting people. He is a fighter Esper who gets stronger using skills Cast from Hit Points.

  • Gold Ray deals damage to an enemy based on Chalmers' ATK, with extrs damage done based on a percentage of the target's Max HP. The amount of the extra damage can't exceed a certain amount of Chalmers' ATK, and it consumes a set percentage of Chalmers' HP.
  • Vita Lightbeam attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Chalmers' ATK with a chance of inflicting Diseased. When ascended, if the target's HP ceiling is higher than Chalmers', each hit will deal extra damage based on a percentage of the target's Max HP. This extra damage can't exceed a certain percentage of Chalmers' ATK.
  • Gold Pulse deals damage to an enemy based on Chalmers' ATK plus a percentage of the target's Max HP, at the cost of some of Chalmers' own HP. The extra damage can't exceed a certain percentage of Chalmers' ATK. This attack will also inflict Buff Blocker.

  • The Alcoholic: Implied. His favorite thing is beer.
  • Birds of a Feather: Surprisingly, with Lin Xiao. Both are drinking buddies and turn out to have similar interests outside of work.
  • Broken Pedestal: He greatly admired Anesidora for being a very kind mentor to him, until she deserted the Union with Hyde and destroyed Chalmers's research.
  • Cast from Hit Points: His main gimmick is to suffer recoil damage in order to boost his attacks.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Whenever he gets one of this, he excitedly runs off to the other researchers to share it.
  • Kick the Dog: He was Anesidora's pupil, and she would always encourage him about his research and help him at the lab. But then, when Hyde left the Union, she decided to follow him and destroyed all of Chalmers's research on her way out, causing him to become distrustful of people.
  • Restored My Faith in Humanity: After Anesidora's exit had caused him to become distrustful of people, it was thanks to Lin Xiao that he slowly regained trust on others.
  • Rule of Symbolism: The canister he carries on his back has a golden apple shape inside, which ties his powers to the Norse goddess Idun(n), who was tied to youth and apples.

    Lauren (Heket)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lauren_sprite.png
"I got some brand, new, fairy tales! I hope the kids like them."

Voiced By: Vii Zedek (English), Yurika Moriyama (Japanese), Kim Chaeha (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Support

A kind-hearted doctor who enjoys treating children. She is a support Esper who can heal one target at a time while granting a small boost or even revive them.

  • Leapfrog deals damage based on Lauren's ATK to a single target. It also has a chance to inflict SPD Down.
  • Brush of Vitality heals an ally for a set percentage of their Max HP at the cost of some of Lauren's. It also increases the target's AP.
  • Healing Water heals an ally for a set percentage of their Max HP and grants Lauren a bonus turn. When ascended, the ability can also revive a dead teammate.

  • Animal Motifs: The frog, based on the Egyptian god of fertility, birth, and generation.
  • Body Horror: Her Esper transformation had given her a frog-like appearance that balked the patients she treated, and so, she fashioned her frog helmet to appear more approachable. However, she still felt insecurities that she wasn't showing her true self, until Heng Yue - another Esper with an altered look (a rabbit) - reassured her that her skills as a medic mattered the most over her looks, which helped Lauren out.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Her seconds ability, Brush of Vitality, sacrifices some of Lauren's HP to heal a teammate.
  • Cool Helmet / Expressive Accessory: Her frog helmet, which tends to show different moods of hers with the expressive lenses.
  • Determined Doctor: Lauren often puts herself in the front lines, because that's where she's able to save the most lives.
  • Friend to All Children: She has a natural ability to talk to and treat children.
  • Giant Medical Syringe: Her weapon of choice, which she also uses to heal her team.
  • It Was a Gift: It's through drawn pictures she got from a child patient that remind her that she's moving in the right direction.
  • The Medic: For little children. In battle, unlike the many support Espers who can heal all party members, she only focuses on one at a time.
  • Picture Books: Her favorite things, as she often uses them to spend time with children she's treating. She even has a set of drawn pictures from a young patient with two frogs that look like her helmet.
  • True Companions: With Heng Yue, another medical Esper with altered looks who helped her accept herself for her skills rather than her looks.

A kindhearted doctor from a wealthy family background. She is a support Esper who can grant invincibility to one target and provide other buffs.
  • Stardust deals damage to an enemy based on Ye Suhua's ATK, and has a chance to inflict ATK Down.
  • Astral Guardian heals an ally for a percentage of their Max HP while granting them Invincibility and Recovery. When ascended, if the target's HP is below a certain amount, then the Recovery will last longer.
  • Star Dancer grants ATK and DEF Up to the entire party.

  • Big Eater: Though she's not shown eating much, she did eat two entire boxes of chocolate during a side tale, and it would explain her portly shape.
  • Cant Hold Their Liquor: She becomes drunk on Sally's chocolates with hints of alcohol (she ate two boxes) and passes out, but then she finds out that she had woken up during a hangover and started demanding everyone at the Union to give her macaroons or else. She's mortified and swears to keep a diet...and not eat alcohol-laced chocolates.
  • The Fashionista: Humorously, she doesn't realize that her accessories are things normal girls kill for. And due to her family, she is a VIP member to many fashion stores and gets exclusive treatment with incoming merchandise before being released to the public.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She uses her medical skills on animals, and she's pushing to have medical services for them through the Union.
  • Improbable Weapon User: In battle, Suhua wields what can only be described as a bizarrely shaped teapot. It's a sort of spherical container holding an unnamed liquid, along with a spout attached to the handle. Whatever it is she’s using, the game doesn’t ever drop a name for it.
  • The Medic: One of many medics in the Union. Her powers are based on the Chinese deity Siming, who made adjustments to human fate and was also focused on individual human health.
  • Nice Girl: Her kindness knows no bounds, and she's noted to have the power to change the world.
  • Non-Idle Rich: She's a medic in the Union, but she's still very much loaded.
  • The Pollyanna: She hasn't endured some kind of hardship, but she knows that the world can be cruel. Even so, she believes that real heroes love the world even if it's cruel.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Due to her wealthy family spoiling her with many luxuries, she has no idea how removed her life is from ordinary folk and still doesn't. Despite this, she is incredibly sweet to other people anyway.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Macaroons.

Epic Espers

    Sachiko (Hare of Inaba)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sachiko_1.png
"*sniff, sniff* What's going on? Something smells fishy. Don't come near me!"

Voiced By: Malou Laval (English), Hikaru Tono (Japanese), Kim Soo-ji (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Support

A bunny girl whose good luck only ever goes to others she helps, not minding the misfortunes she brings upon herself for it. She's a Deuteragonist to the second story mode, aiding the player in his quest to find out about his mysterious arrival to the world of Espers. She is a support Esper who can grant several buffs with added effects.

  • Pollen Strike deals damage to an enemy based on Sachiko's ATK and has a chance to stun.
  • Lucky Wishes grants SPD Up to the party while increasing their AP. This ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated.
  • Bunny Talisman grants ATK Up and Shield to the party. This ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated. When ascended, the shield will last for an extra turn.

  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: She is able to regain her humanity through the Gate of Promotion, at the cost of never being able to set foot ever again in the world of Espers. On the bright side, the player can communicate with her whenever he is close to the gate.
  • Beast Man: Downplayed compared to other examples, but a significant part of her body has been transformed to have rabbit-like features, such as her ears, hands, feet, and nose.
  • Birds of a Feather: With the player, regarding how she lamented in the past how much time a person needed to trust others trying to be close; a fact she lamented with her motherly teacher Tang Na.
  • Bishōnen Line: Her tragic transformation ages her up into a tall, womanly bunny, except the battle against her shows her deformed into a larger monstrosity.
  • Born Unlucky: Her attempts to bring good luck to people always mean that she'll suffer for it, though she doesn't mind no matter how awful it can be to her.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the second main story, assisting the player in his quest about the reason he arrived to the world of Espers.
  • Final Boss: As a Tragic Monster, just like Sieg before.
  • Kick the Dog: She finally reunites with her amnesiac teacher Tang Na at an outpost near Utgard, only to be forced to kill her when Tang Na's divine wave consumption to stabilize herself causes her to become a Miramon seeking her out. It's made all the more heartbreaking since Sachiko's powers were the reason Tang Na averted death, at the cost of becoming an Esper too dependent on divine waves that made her lose her humanity.
  • Memento MacGuffin: The only thing that remained behind from her parents is a satchel she carries around. Inside of it is a plant of cattail figure that her teacher Tang Na had made for her, initially believing that it was from her parents. Sachiko was disheartened to learn the truth, shutting herself from listening to Tang Na, even though Tang Na said that she learned how to weave the figure thanks to learning from Sachiko's mother. After Tang Na's brush with death, Sachiko decided to keep the charm with her as a symbol of good luck.
  • Taking the Bullet: She likes to be on the receiving end of this multiple times in the second story mode, every time protecting the player from being killed. The final one she takes from Gaius could have killed her, but she "survives" by touching the Gate of Promotion with her blood as a path through the cracks to wish to save the player, at the cost of her humanity.
  • Tragic Monster: She taps into the Gate of Promotion through her running blood in order to make her wish of protecting the player from being killed by Gaius come true. Unfortunately, this also turns her into a crazed monster.
  • Vague Age: Promotional materials (such as her Esper profile) list her as being 17, but in game she's listed as being 21.

    Luo Yan (Yanluo Wang)

"Great power must be subject to great restraint."

Voiced By: Gerardo Nunez (English), Kazuya Nakai (Japanese), Park Sang-hoon (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Support

A former police officer that now brings justice as a Vigilante Man, leader of the Scavengers within the Esper Union. In his spare time, he practices calligraphy. Luo Yan is a Support Esper that can heal his team and debuff enemies.

  • Death deals damage to an enemy based on Luo Yan's ATK. The ally with the lowest HP will be healed by a set percentage of the damage dealt to the target.
  • Life grants Recovery to an ally. When Luo Yan has Death Tome, he can select a dead ally to revive and heal. Luo Yan gains Death Tome at the start of combat. When ascended, the ally who gains Recovery also gains Standoff.
  • Fate deals damage to all enemies based on Luo Yan's ATK, reducing their HP ceiling with a chance to inflict Diseased.

  • Art Attacker: He uses his brush to conjure up Chinese characters that he uses to attack.
  • Clear My Name: It was thanks to him that he helped clear Lin Xiao's name of a crime she didn't commit.
  • Combat Medic: Death heals the teammate with the lowest HP percent left based on the damage dealt. Life grants an ally Recovery, and he can revive an ally with the Death Tome buff.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He may look creepy with his red arms, purple-gray skin, and red-and-black color scheme, but he's a good person that punishes criminals. Curiously, he used to have amoral methods to deal with criminals when the current laws weren't enough to protect the people.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Instead of being this to new recruits, he's particularly strict on the people that are worthy of his time.
  • Heroic BSoD: Implied to have one when his former mentor died in a fiery blaze that he decided that some rules were meant to be broken.
  • Maximum HP Reduction: Fate lowers the target's HP cap by 30%.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He delivers justice in his own terms on criminals that escape the law. Fittingly, his powers are based on the Buddhist King of Hell Yanluo Wang (otherwise known as the Yama), who sent wrongdoers uncaring for their karmic actions to hell as long as evil actions haven't exhausted their results.
  • The Pen Is Mightier. Believes in this. Well, he does carry a huge brush, so...
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Ironically the blue oni to his colleague Lin Xiao's red oni.
  • The Reveal: Though the specifics behind this are still unclear, Ophelia's boyfriend Yassin died in an accident after being ordered by Luo Yan to carry the mission to save researchers.
  • Vigilante Man: He can use less than legal methods to uphold justice, which led him to being expelled from the police force.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Says this word for word to new recruits in the force.

    Arcana (Hermes)

"Relax. Sit back and enjoy the challenge."

Voiced By: Eddy Yeung (English), Akira Ishida (Japanese), Shim Gyu-hyeok (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Fighter

A former Phantom Thief into art. Arcana is a fighter who can steal several buffs and inflict some ailments on the enemy.

  • Twin Snakes deals damage to an enemy based on Arcana's ATK, with a chance to inflict ATK Down on the target.
  • Imprisonment attacks twice. Both attacks deal damage based on Arcana's ATK and have a chance to stun the target. If the target is afflicted with Miss Rate Up, the duration of their debuffs are increased. This ability won't miss.
  • Scouring Whip deals damage to all based on Arcana's ATK and steals a buff from each target. He also has a chance to inflict Miss Rate Up. When ascended, Arcana steals a percentage of AP per buff stolen.

  • Animal Motifs: A minor one in snakes, referencing his former nature as a slippery thief as well as the two snakes from the Caduceus staff that Hermes wielded.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Has a habit of getting so distracted by random street performers that he forgets what he should be doing.
  • Born Lucky: Even through mistakes he causes, he's able to make daring escapes right under his enemies' noses.
  • Chick Magnet: His urbane but infectious mannerisms charm young women.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Although he doesn't really get any sort of story focus, the recurring temporary event "Royal Flush" is made by him, which players can occasionally play with to earn resources.
  • Generation Xerox: Though he'll never want to admit it, he inherited his father's artistic skills.
  • Nice Guy:
    • He detests when magicians try to con impressionable kids from their money and fixes the situation by slipping into their acts as to avoid the children from getting sad.
    • He donates pieces of artwork to a museum that's barely running by to help out the woman running it, as she has lost her husband and her son is studying abroad. On occasion, she even gives her bouquets of flowers.
  • Phantom Thief: Formerly one who switched his father's paintings for replicas to ruin his reputation as an artist.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Specifically gave wings to his top hat, which has a giant pair as another nod to Hermes. No word on if they actually work or not.
  • Reclusive Artist: In-Universe. He was fond of oil paintings as an artist, but he never displayed his own work but rather replicas of works by famous artists, because he resented his artist father for abandoning him and his mother. His work on replicas is so good that he managed to fool Chang Pu with a potted plant that he broke by accident.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue Oni to Mona's Red Oni.
  • Revenge: His main reason for being a Phantom Thief was to ruin his father's artistic reputation by switching his father's paintings for replicas because his father abandoned him and his mother, but then Arcana met Pritzker, who changed his ways for the better and dropped his revenge to work for the Union.
  • Snake Whip: His signature weapon is a whip that forks into two living snake heads.
  • The Social Expert: So good at talking about the right things with people that he can even make total strangers laugh while they're angry. On the other hand, he enjoys teasing serious people (Mona the most) as his favorite pastime. He's also one of the few people at the Union who can correctly guess when Falken is actually daydreaming rather than being in serious thought.
  • Wings Do Nothing: While the wings on his hat are large and impressive, they don’t seem to be capable of any kind of flight.

    Meredith (Scylla)

"When I was young, my mom used to play me a song on a banjo."

Voiced By: Emma Borrie (English), Yui Tsukada (Japanese), Kang Sae-bom (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Support

Known as the Miracle Bard, she is a banjo musician and researcher for the Union. She is is a support Esper who can provide healing alongside other buffs to the entire team.

  • Sonic Shield heals an ally, granting them DEF Up and CRIT Resist.
  • Hand of Scylla attacks an enemy, reducing their Max HP by a certain percent, up to a certain percent of Meredith’s own. If the target’s HP is above a certain amount, the cooldown of this ability is shortened. This ability also heals the party based on how much damage it does, while also granting them SPD Up. When ascended, if an ally’s HP is above a certain amount, they will receive Recovery.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: This hippie girl doesn't look like it, but she's a researcher for the Union who discovered the existence of divine sound waves (now known as Divine Waves) that are deeply connected to Miramon movement by the Miracles causing sounds to control them. She's also the one who developed Discboom's headphones to protect her from the interference from the divine sound waves. On top of all this, it's theorized that the waves can be used for mankind's greater good.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Dreams Afar event. She's The Rival to the Fatum Sisters in the idol competition, though all of them are friendly and supportive of each other.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: She's got blue eyes with red pupils.
  • Irony: Though her powers are based on the ruthless Greek sea monster Scylla, Meredith is one of the nicest Espers out there. Unlike many other Espers who lived in places that related to their powers and nationalities, Meredith grew up in a village surrounded by forests, instead of living near the ocean.
  • Magic Music: She plays her banjo to heal and buff the party, while also attacking enemies.
  • Making a Splash: Her main element, taking cues from the Greek sea monster Scylla.
  • Music for Courage: When she was young, she was scared of the forest (due to being told scary stories to keep children from wandering out), and so she would sneak into her parents' rooms. It's through her mother's lullaby played on a banjo that Meredith began to see the worth in music as a healing balm that can comfort anyone
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: She's described as a traveling hippie who enjoys playing the banjo, and is noted to be one of the few people who still do so outside her hometown.
  • Rule of Symbolism: She has water powers, her banjo looks thematically oceanic, and some locks of her hair are actually tentacles, taking cues from Scylla.
  • Tentacle Hair: Some locks of her hair are actually squid-like tentacles, referencing Scylla.

    Jin-hee (Dokkaebi)

"You must throw hard in baseball! You must go forward in life."

Voiced By: Nathalie Ferarenote  (English), Aino Shimada (Japanese), Unknown (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Controller

A young pitcher lady and Ops Chief with a passion for baseball. She is a controller Esper who can afflict foes with her unique Dizzy Daze status effect.

  • Fast Ball deals damage to an enemy based on Jin-hee’s ATK and has a chance to stun the target.
  • Round Slider deals damage to an enemy based on Jin-hee’s ATK and has a chance to steal their buffs. It also extends the target’s ability cooldowns. When ascended, if the target is inflicted with Dizzy Daze, Jin-hee will absorb all of their AP. Dizzy Daze is a debuff that incapacitates the target and increases Jin-hee’s AP every time they’re hit.
  • Cyclone Screw grants each ally a random buff depending on their attribute, increasing either ATK, SPD, C. RATE, or DEF. Then, she deals damage to an enemy based on her ATK, inflicting Dizzy Daze.

  • An Arm and a Leg: During the destruction of Hazlit, she lost her right hand, which briefly put an end of her baseball dream until she awakened to her Esper powers, which helped her regain her right hand.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Along with Koharu, she’s the first East Asian Esper to not be Chinese, being Korean instead.
  • Bully Hunter: She dislikes bullies and will try to scold them when she sees them.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Her baseball career ended after she lost her right hand during the destruction of Hazlit. Her Esper powers gave her a replacement hand.
  • Child Prodigy: Since she was 4, she was already practicing baseball in the yard.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She lost her right hand when Hazlit was destroyed by Miramon, right when she was about to become a professional baseball player. Then, she was homeless for 2 years at Amuse Street.
  • Dub Name Change: Her name in the Japanese version is Maki.
  • Hidden Depths: It's all but stated that she was orphaned by her parents since she can remember, but she wishes to see them due to her fascination for parent-child shows she's defensive about. Her Divinate info mentions that she's not sure if her parents were worried for her or disappointed on her for losing big games they could profit on.
  • I Coulda Been a Contender!: She was about to become a professional baseball player right before Hazlit was destroyed the same day and caused her to lose her right hand.
  • I Know Madden Kombat: Among the many Espers who have more conventional weapons for battle, hers is tossing baseballs empowered with her Esper powers.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Short clothes, large buxom with Cleavage Window and a lot of Jiggle Physics, home-run.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She ends up finding Ife's unnamed diary and reads a bit through it out of curiosity, finding out that Ife wishes to play baseball with friends. Interested, Jin-hee turns the diary over to Lost and Found, and she waited until the dead of night to find a sneaky Ife claiming it by her lonesome. However, Jin-hee later offers to play baseball with her just to make her wish come true.
  • Our Goblins Are Different: She borrows her Esper powers from the Korean goblin Dokkaebi. Fittingly, they were known for playing tricks, which is what Jin-hee does for her pitching skills. Her baseball glove even resembles the face of a goblin.
  • Shout-Out: Her summoning animation has her doing a gymnastics move called an illusion, the very same move done by Korean gymnast Shin Soo-ji before throwing a pitch at a baseball game in this viral clip.
  • Stepford Smiler: People who know her can tell that her peppy mannerisms and behavior hide a lot of details behind her troubled past.
  • Those Two Guys: Has this dynamic with Bardon, who's also in the same class as her.

    Dhalia (Calypso)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dhalia_calypso.png
"This is not the time nor place for childish games."

Voiced By: Michelle Morgan (English), Misato Matsuoka (Japanese), Kim Seo-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Support

A Union Academy Teacher and assassin who knows everything about any Esper. She is a support Esper who is able to buff allies offensively while slowing some foes down.

  • Sneak Attack attacks an enemy, dealing damage based on Dhalia's ATK with a chance to stun the target.
  • Umbra Attack attacks an enemy three times. Each hit does damage based off Dhalia's ATK and has a chance to inflict SPD Down. If the target already has SPD Down, she'll inflict Freeze for an additional turn.
  • Sonic Camo grants an AP bonus to the party. When ascended, it'll also grant ATK UP and C. RATE UP.

  • Blackmail: Everyone fears her because she may know an Esper's deepest secrets, leading to an endless stream of bribes involving giving her blueberries so she doesn't divulge anything.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She couldn't get over the death of her mentor, which she believed was caused by her carelessness during an assassination mission.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: It was her mentor who slowly made her open up because he believed in Dhalia when everyone else didn't. When he died, it was through her student Ife that she finally began to show a gentler side of herself.
  • Delinquent: She was formerly a delinquent when she was young, causing her parents a lot of grief. She didn't get better when she was old enough to be sent to the military, where her stubborn streak caused so much trouble to her superiors. Then she was sent to the special forces after she was almost court-martialed. It wasn't until she was trained to become an assassin that she finally wised up.
  • False Reassurance: When she's bribed with blueberries from the people who don't wish her to say any dirt she has on them, she calms them down by saying that the dirt is just notes for observational purposes only. No one believes that, as evidenced by the endless stream of blueberries at her door.
  • The Hero's Idol: She's this to her student Ife, who idolizes Dhalia as a protagonist in Ife's spy movies.
  • Ice Queen: She once was this when she was younger, keeping to herself and never forming ties with anyone. As her powers are based on Calypso, it refers to how Calypso was a recluse in her island.
  • Irony: She was a delinquent who caused so much trouble to her parents and military teachers, and then she ended up becoming a teacher for the Union.
  • It's All My Fault: She beat herself up when her mentor died apparently due to her own carelessness while he tried to help her enact her revenge.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: It was the death of her military mentor and supervisor that finally convinced her to become a better person.
  • Morality Pet: Ife, one of her students, whom Dhalia can't help but be reminded of herself in her due to also getting a second chance at the academy just like how Dhalia was given a second chance by her former mentor.
  • Professional Killer: A stealthy assassin. Fittingly for her profession, her powers are based on the Greek Goddess Calypso, whose name means "to cover," "to conceal," or "to hide."
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Blueberries. Giving her some is enough to stop her from spilling any dirt she has on any person.

    Heng Yue (Chang'e)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heng_yue_change.png
"Only silly romantics admire the moon. Light isn't from there."
Full Moon

Voiced By: Sydney Hymanson (English), Yumi Hara (Japanese), Kim Down (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Support

A top medical, fashionable doctor within the Union. She is a support Esper who focuses on healing and dispelling debuffs for greater healing.

  • Silvermoon Kiss deals damage equal to a percentage of Heng Yue’s ATK and dispels a buff from the target.
  • Undying Elixir is a passive ability. At the end of each turn, it heals whoever has the lowest HP by a percentage of their Max HP and dispels a debuff from them. When ascended, the ability also grants Recovery if the target’s HP is below a certain amount.
  • Golden Moon dispels all ally debuffs and heals them for a percentage of their Max HP, plus an extra percentage for each debuff dispelled.

  • Be Yourself: She gave Lauren advice to not feel bad about her frog-like appearance being abhorrent to people, and that her medical skills are what matter the most. Given what Heng Yue has gone through herself not only because of her glaring rabbit ears but because of her social standing, she knows what she's saying.
  • Blessed with Suck: Discussed. She argues with Ahmed that it's best for Espers to go back to being normal people which is why she's researching a way to reverse Esper transformation, as she sees more negatives than positives on being an Esper. Ahmed is unable to change her mind, but both agree to disagree.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Literal bunny ears aside, Heng Yue has a glamorous appearance, a great interest in fashion, and carries herself with the cold yet alluring air of a supermodel. She also has a doctorate in pharmaceutical engineering and is one of the Esper Union’s best medics.
  • The Casanova: A female version towards men, though it's only rumored that she only gives preferential treatment to handsome men.
  • The Fashionista: Her favorite hobby. She's so good at it that she's able to get a new frog helmet for Lauren to wear after her current one was wearing down. It's rumored that Heng Yue was once a supermodel, though she was at least a model to pay for her medical studies.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her wish to develop a way for Espers to go back to being normal humans may be attributed to her personal experiences trying to become a doctor but was judged and promoted by her family as being skillful at it through her Esper powers, which wasn't the case.
  • Good Is Not Nice: According to her Divinate info, she is harsher on treating patients who purposely injure themselves.
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: It’s hard to tell because her coat mostly hides it, but a look at her Album art shows that she’s got this in spades.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has a pair of rabbit ears.
  • The Medic: A famous one among the Union's bestest. It fits that she's modeled after Chang'e, who was also a medic capable of making the Elixir of Immortality.
  • Moon Rabbit: She is modeled after the Chinese goddess of the moon Chang'e, who's preferred animal was the rabbit, stated to aid Chang'e in pounding the herbs that make the Elixir of Immortality into a powder.
  • Never a Self-Made Woman: People believe that she got so far in life because of her family connections, which is a lie. Her family did give her resources, but most of her achievements come from her own sweat and blood. Unfortunately, things became complicated. Before she became an Esper, her successes were attributed to her family. After she became an Esper, her successes were then attributed to her divine powers. Her family then took advantage of her powers by telling everyone about them to enhance their reputation and social standing, undermining her medical know-how. She was less than pleased and almost swore off her profession until she met Feng Nuxi, convincing her to join the Union, where her medical research is supported and given the respect it deserves.
  • No Smoking: In an early version of the beta, Heng Yue’s character art had her smoking a cigarette, while a voice line had her say that she knows the danger of smoking because she’s a doctor. Both of these were changed or removed before the official launch of the game.
  • The Smart Girl: Obtained her doctorate degree in record time and went on to become scouted by a well-known pharmaceutical company.

    Kaylee (Anuket)

"When is it my turn?! I can't wait to get on the stage!"

Voiced By: Laura Quiambao (English), Fairouz Ai (Japanese), Lee Sae-byeok (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Controller

A popular cheerful dancer in the Union who can bring smiles to anyone. She is a controller Esper who can freeze foes and slow some down.

  • Satin Strike deals damage to an enemy based on Kaylee’s ATK. If she has C. RATE UP and lands a critical hit, the duration of C. RATE UP is extended. This attack does bonus damage to frozen enemies.
  • Criss Cross attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Kaylee’s ATK. Each hit has a chance to lower the target’s AP. When ascended, if Kaylee lands a critical hit, she has a chance to dispell a buff from the target and a smaller chance to freeze them.
  • Dance of Deluge grants Kaylee C. RATE. UP and attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Kaylee’s ATK. If Kaylee lands a critical hit, she has a chance to inflict Freeze.

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: One of her biggest shortcomings is her short attention span, next to her forgetfulness.
  • Dance Battler: Her main method of fighting.
  • It Was a Gift: The rubies and sapphiers she wears aren't part of her Esper look, but rather they were gifts from her sister. Kaylee fondly recalls her sister's smile whenever she sees them.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She has a pet cat named Chili.
  • The Klutz: She's rather disorganized, and it doesn't help that she's forgetful.
  • Making a Splash: Uses water to attack and as part of her dances, referencing how Anuket was the personification of the Nile River.
  • The Pollyanna: Incredibly cheerful, she has endured the death of her deaf sister.
  • The Promise: She made a promise to her sister that Kaylee would perform in the biggest stage and light up the faces of everyone attending.
  • Posthumous Sibling: Her deaf sister had passed away sometime after Kaylee's 12th birthday.
  • True Companions:
    • With Tiye, as Kaylee is the only one who can (maybe) understand Tiye's crazy cosmic ramblings to translate to others.
    • With Daylon, because she learned not to judge people by their appearances when he went all the way trying to find her lost Union ID 2 years ago. Since she's a klutz, Daylon's reliability is precious to her.

    Mona (Artemis)

"Not an arrow wasted!"
Moon Goddess

Voiced By: Carrie Drovdlic (English), Yui Ishikawa (Japanese), Yeo Min-jeong (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Fighter

A Gamer Chick who ran away from home and its strict socialite lifestyle. Mona is a fighter that specializes at whittling down enemies with volleys of arrows and then finishing them off one-by-one.
  • Moonshot hits a single enemy, which deals damage equal to 130% of Mona's attack stat. If the attack kills the enemy, Mona gets another turn.
  • Hunter's Mark hits all enemies on the field, dealing damage equal to 70% of her attack stat. It also heals Mona by 30% of the attack dealt.
  • Lunar Hail hits all enemies 4 times, with the combined damage equaling 115% of her attack stat. It also increases critical damage by 30%.

  • Aloof Ally: She hides her meticulous nature under her casual, aloof personality as the former reminds her of her father. However, upon joining the Esper Union, she ended up embracing it.
  • Aloof Archer: Which she translated to shooting video games.
  • Animal Motifs: Her bow resembles the head of a deer, an animal commonly associated with Artemis.
  • The Determinator: Her fourth career profile describes how she refuses to lose to anyone, whether it be in gaming or an actual fight. This too goes into her Esper Union work even if she's having a fever.
  • * Deuteragonist: Alongside David, in Bemusement Park.
  • Energy Bow: While the part of the bow she holds onto is solid, the rest of it (including the arrows and string) is all some kind of Hard Light.
  • Extra Turn: Gets a bonus turn whenever she gets a kill with her first ability, Moonshot.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Her parents, particularly her father, were not supportive of her passions for gaming, as it went against their expectations for her. This is part of the reason why she rebelled against them.
  • Follow in My Footsteps: Her prestigious family wanted her to grow up to be prim and proper and follow in her father’s footsteps as sophisticated and elegant. Mona wanted the opposite of this, which led to her rebelling against her father and running away.
  • Gamer Chick: She has a 50-win streak in the arcade game Alley Brawler, making her be considered a legend at the Gyrate Metro Arcade and is stated to be a proud girl competing in a male-dominated video game world.
  • Generation Xerox: To her chagrin, her serious side reminds her of her strict father.
  • God of the Moon: Being the Esper of Artemis, many of her attacks are moon-themed. Her ‘’Moon Goddess’’ skin leans a lot more into the trope, with even her bow being shaped like a crescent moon.
  • Great Bow: Although most of it is made Hard Light, her bow still looks to be almost as big as she is. Her ‘’Moon Goddess’’ skin makes it even bigger as well as being shaped like a large crescent.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Discussed. She dislikes how the normal populace sees Espers as the main culprits for what caused the chaos since the Miracle arrived, but she truly believes that Espers are meant to protect the innocent.
  • Irony: She likes being recognized as an expert gamer even when she turns down new challengers which is indirect praise for her, but her work for the Esper Union leaves her embarrassed from all the praise she gets there.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Strangely, her artwork and in-game mugshot depict her with a frown most of the time, though her Esper model shows her with a smile.
  • Rain of Arrows: Her third ability, Lunar Hail, sees her do this to attack the entire enemy party.
  • Rebellious Princess: Though not exactly princessly, she was raised by her father from her prestigious Hazlitt family to become a sophisticated young lady. She went against everything he did for her and did the exact opposite, right down to his expectations on fashion. At least she kept the gown under her jacket.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red Oni to Arcana's Blue Oni.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Depending on what piece of art you’re looking at, the word on her hat is either “Power” or “Powher”. Her story sprite avoids this entirely, with the hat instead displaying a bunch of abstract symbols rather than an actual word.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: She is often challenged by other players below her skill level, though she always turns them down. However, she is very pleased from getting recognition.
  • Starter Mon: She’s given to the player for free during the tutorial of the gacha system. Unlike Brynn, Drew, or Q, she doesn't have a role in the main story, though.
  • Sweet Tooth: Lollipops being her favorite, though she tries not to make her love for sweets too obvious.
  • True Companions: With Arcana, who's also her mentor (not that she'll ever tell him because it'll go to his head if she praised him).
  • Unknown Rival: Her highest score is beat at Alley Brawler and she declares the mysterious high scorer as a rival, though she doesn't find out who the man is. Seeing other side tales, it's implied to be Leon, who won the highest prizes so that he could gift Hall with limited edition merchandise from an action movie he likes.

    Eira (Freya)

"My chord can bring any summer to life."
Fever

Voiced By: Arianna Angeline (English), Yui Ishikawa (Japanese), Bi Ju-eon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Support

An orchestra conductor and resources manager for the Esper Union. She is a support Esper who can increase one ally's AP with Brisingamen's Watch.

  • Chords of Heron deals damage to an enemy based on Eira's ATK, with a chance of gaining SPD Up for herself.
  • Divine Love removes all debuffs from a selected teammate and grants them Brisingamen's Watch. Brisingamen's Watch will increase the ally's AP by a set percentage at the end of each turn.
  • Seabreeze Sonata deals damage to all enemies based on Eira's ATK, inflicting SPD Down and lowering their AP. When ascended, this ability resets the cooldown on Divine Love.

  • Bonding over Missing Parents: When she and Sally first met, they wound up bonding over the fact that they're both orphans.
  • Child Prodigy: Her talent for music is very developed, which she found hard to nurture as a gifted child due to the stifling life at her orphanage. It was thanks to Triki's funding that she was able to leave the orphanage to enroll in the Music Academy.
  • Childhood Friends: With Triki. However, her joining the Esper Union caused a disagreement between the two, due to Triki's negative views on the Union. Still, Eira wants to prove Triki (and herself) that she made the right decision joining the Union.
  • Magic Music: She uses her conductor's baton in battle to control a floating music score to attack and buff her allies.
  • Misery Builds Character: Her childhood was filled with trials and tribulations, but she learned to become independent and grateful for everything that came into herlife.
  • Orphanage of Fear: She grew up in one with Triki, where he would protect her while she would look after him.
  • Performance Anxiety: It's very hard to see, but she suffers from stage fright, which she deals with every morning by rehearsing continuously in front of the mirror.
  • Something about a Rose: Her "Fever" skin has a heavy rose motif.

    Stewart (Dionysus)

"Wanna hear a story? It's preeetty goood!"

Voiced By: Logan Harper (English), Yu Akiba (Japanese), Hong Seung-hyo (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Fighter

A popular orphanage instructor in the Esper Union. He is a fighter Esper who can put single foes to sleep and punish them when disrupting his own sleep.

  • Down Your Cups deals damage to an enemy based on Stewart's ATK and has a chance too put the target to sleep.
  • Soundly Dreams deals damage to an enemy based on Stewart's ATK. If the target's HP falls below a certain amount after being hit, this attack puts them to sleep.
  • Time Vortex deals damage to an enemy based on Stewart's ATK at the cost of some of his HP. If he lands a critical hit, he'll do bonus damage based on the target's max HP (which cannot exceed a certain percentage of Stewart's ATK). This attack also puts both Stewart and the target to sleep. When ascended, if Stewart is woken from his Sleep atatus by an enemy, he'll counterattack with Soundly Dreams.

  • The Alcoholic: On her diary pages, Zora notes that Stewart should stop his drinking around students, even if he still won a teacher award. This alludes to the Roman god Dionysus, who was known as the god of wine and ecstasy.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He has chosen to work full-time at the Union orphanage over joining the Union forces on the battlefield, and yet he's still a fighter-type Esper.
  • Forced Sleep: His kit revolves around the sleep status, both inflicting it on others and himself.
  • Friend to All Children: Children love him, and they are quick to calm down their mess before a class starts once he decides that it's time to start the class.
  • Hands-Off Parenting: He is extremely laidback on his students that he lets them misbehave a little, though he will punish them when a student starts behaving immorally. He even likes to drink wine around them, but no bad incidents have occurred. It's saying something when he has won an award for best teacher.
  • Hypno Pendulum: His weapon of choice.
  • It's All My Fault: He blames himself over Mia's death at the hands of Catherine and holds himself responsible for everything that had happened four years ago. He also blames himself that his own negligence caused Zora to become blinded by hatred.
  • Like Brother and Sister: He saw Zora as a little sister to him and his former lover Mia.
  • Manchild: People comment that he can ironically more of a child than any other child.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: One of his gimmicks in battle is putting one foe and himself to sleep with Time Vortex. However, if roused from his sleep with an attack, he will retaliate with Soundly Dreams for high damage free of charge.
  • Moonwalk Dance: His menu entrance has him moonwalking into view, perhaps because he's drunk.
  • Revenge: For a time, he tried to enact vengeance upon Mia's death, but he later let go of his hatred to fulfill Mia's wish of helping more children.
  • So Proud of You: Zora became disheartened to see Stewart after she deserted the Union while she was trying to become an Ops Chief, but he really didn't mind her decision and is just glad that she found her calling as a bounty hunter.

"An eagle wouldn't tolerate a grain of sand in its eye."

Voiced By: Steven Kelly (English), Ryōhei Kimura (Japanese), Um Sang-hyun (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Defender

The commander of the Esper Union, he has total respect from everyone working under him. He is a defender Esper who can deal true damage prior counterattacking all foes.

  • Judgement attacks an enemy. It does damage based on a mix of Falken’s ATK and Max HP, and has a chance to Taunt the target.
  • Eye of Vengeance is a passive ability. Falken’s attacks mark enemies with the Eye of Horus debuff. If one of Falken’s teammates is attacked by an enemy with this debuff, they have a chance to counterattack. If Falken is attacked by an enemy with this debuff, he has a small chance of counterattacking with Falconer. When Eye of Horus wears off, it deals True Damage equal to a percentage of the damage that the carrier received while the debuff was active. When this ability is ascended, if Falken counterattacks with Falconer, he will also heal himself.
  • Falconer deals damage to all enemies equal to a mix of Falken’s ATK and a percentage any HP he’s lost, and has a chance to inflict ATK Down.

  • Animal Motifs: The falcon/eagle, which represents the Egyptian god Horus. Fittingly, Falken's own name sounds like "falcon."
  • Benevolent Boss: One of his many good traits that make his subjects respect him.
  • Cant Hold Their Liquor: One story had him, Lin Xiao, Donar, and Gabrielle discussing who was the best commander because their subordinates kept talking about it. After Gabrielle suggested for a toast...things got out of hand, and everything ended with everyone seeing camera footage of their commanders drunk out of their asses after having a fight.
  • Counter-Attack: If an enemy that is attacking him or his teammates has the Eye of Horus debuff, he will counterattack with his basic ability and has a 15% chance of retaliating with his ultimate, Falconer.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Like many Espers with dark motifs, he's actually very nice, but he's socially awkward (though people just think he's always so serious and should't be disturbed).
  • Draw Aggro: Judgement can taunt the targeted enemy.
  • The Dreaded: Nearly no one in the Union can brave him just being around everyone because he looks so damn serious all the time. Just walking into a room full of laughter causes everyone to stop and excuse themselves. Laura tried to give him some tips to get people to open up to him...but it only made things worse. When he tried to invite David for a "chat" in his office...
    Q: Dude. You're dead.
  • Evil Former Friend: To Sander, who left the Esper Union due to having a wider view of the world through the Shadow Decree. It's the topic among Falken's associates whenever they try to learn about his past with Sander.
  • A Father to His Men: Ever since Sander paid for all his family's debts himself, Falken has chosen to put himself between them and any harm coming their way.
  • Friendless Background: Didn't even have companions during his time trying to help his family out with their debts.
  • The Dreaded: His overall broody-like appearance makes many in his team fear talking to him, thinking that's often thinking some very important stuff. Most of the time, though, he's just daydreaming or just looking at birds on branches from his office.
  • Gone Horribly Right: His fishing lessons to Ye Suhua somehow ended up convincing the Fishing Club to overstock the Esper Union cafeteria with way too much fish to appease him that caused many people to complain (and one welcomed their new Fishing Club overlords).
  • Hidden Depths: In his life trying to make ends meet while helping to pay his family's overwhelming debts, he turns out to have incredible survival skills like fishing with just his bare hands, which he easily teaches Ye Suhua to learn for herself.
  • I Owe You My Life: It was through Sander saving him during some serious trouble who convinced Falken to join the Esper Union in order to pay for his family's debts. But despite joining there, it was Sander himself who paid for all his debts using his own money, which further made Falken indebted to him.
  • Ironic Echo: Compare his second profile line with Sander's:
Falken: An eagle wouldn't tolerate a grain of sand in its eye.
Sander: A grain of sand can't escape the whirlwind.
  • Irony: He learned so many new skills from Sander and saw him as a role model for his very Benevolent Boss attitude, but he simply can't understand why people see him as a role model and try to stay on his good side so much despite how they all respect him completely without complaining.
  • Self-Made Man: He worked very hard to help his family with their many debts that he took on increasingly dangerous jobs when he underwent his Esper transformation.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Combined with his dark looks, no one can really tell that he's socially awkward because they ironically put so much respect on him.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Mentioned to have attractive good looks, making him rather popular with the media and Union fans. His good looks keep getting referenced in his profile.
  • Universally Beloved Leader: Everyone at the Esper Union holds a great deal of respect to him that many tend to learn from his own actions and even attempt to become like him, though he's at a loss why many go that far.
  • Workaholic: He has worked so hard his whole life and will never stop working any harder that he has only a few minutes to rest before going back to work.

"Scholars should never lose sight of what they set out to do."
Enlightened Seeker

Voiced By: Si Hawk (English), Yuki Tamai (Japanese), Um Sang-hyun (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Controller

The Research Institute Chief of the Union who wants to lead mankind to salvation. He is one of the Esper Seven, said to be the very first people who received their Esper powers. Pritzker is a controller Esper who can increase skill cooldowns on debuffed targets.

  • Secrets of Edda deals damage to an enemy based on Pritzker's ATK and has a chance to absorb some of their AP. When ascended, if the target is debuffed, the attack will stun the target.
  • Gjallerhorn is a passive ability. When a Pritzker inflicts a debuff, if the target is immobilized, all of their ability cooldowns are increased by one turn.
  • Wisdom's Name attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Pritzker's ATK. Each hit has a chance to inflict Stun.

  • Badass Bookworm: Large in shape and very knowlegeable. His powers are derived from the Norse god Mimir, who was reknowned for his knowledge and wisdom.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Considering what he looks like under those big robes (see Heroic Build below), he most certainly qualifies. The tight, ripped jeans in his “Enlightened Seeker” skin make his build a little more obvious.
  • Gentle Giant: He is rather large in physique (he is actually 5 cms taller than the likes of Freddy and is literally the tallest human Esper, falling 3cms short to non-human Javid), but he is actually very gentle to his students and doesn't like using harsh methods for them to lose their motivation.
  • Heroic Build: His second album art depicts him without his coat and shirt on. The man (who is 65 years old) is ripped as hell under there. No wonder he is Gabrielle's mentor.
Pritzker (when winning): Exercise isn't bad after researching all day.
  • It's All My Fault: He feels that he failed as a mentor to his protege Hyde when he defected from the Union to pursue his increasingly dangerous experiments, and he knows that there will come a day when he'll have to defeat Hyde.
  • Like a Son to Me: He sees his students as if they were his own children and is always willing to help them when they encounter challenges.
  • Power Equals Rarity: Subverted. He’s one of the Esper Seven, but he’s an Epic Esper unlike the other six who are of Legendary rarity.
  • Workaholic: He is always extremely busy in his research, often hurrying off somewhere to decide the fate of the world.

Voiced By: Sean Antony (English), Yu Akiba (Japanese), Kim Jin-hong (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Controller

The Construction Team Leader of the Union. He is a controller Esper who has a variety of effects, such as increasing cooldowns for his enemies while decreasing his own.

  • Stone Fists deals damage to an enemy based on Nick's ATK, with a chance to inflict ATK Down.
  • Landslide attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Nick's ATK. It also has a chance to increase the target's ability cooldowns. When ascended, upon increasing enemy cooldowns, Nick will decrease the cooldowns of his own abilities.
  • Skyfall attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Nick's ATK. This attack dispels enemy shields and inflicts Silence. Each enemy silenced increases Nick's AP by a set percentage.

  • Body Horror: Half of his upper body in encased in rock. However, Nick still sees this as a plus.
  • Character Development: Nick's impatience and recklessness used to be a lot worse, until an unspecified accident caused by his own Esper powers helped him realize how important it is to take his job seriously.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: Landslide is able to do this to enemies, and when ascended, Nick himself too.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: His main element is rock.
  • It's All About Me: He's constantly seen flexing and boasting about himself and how great he is, but his career blurbs note that he has the skill and achievements to back it up, and that he taks his job incredibly seriously.
  • Must Have Caffeine: His favorite drink is coffee, next to eating doughnuts.
  • Older Than He Looks: Would you believe he's 47?
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: His rock hand is able to change shapes so that he can do his construction work.
  • Super-Strength: He's very strong thanks to his Esper powers, symbolizing the Norse god of strength Magni.

Give me a MISSION! ...I'll get you results.

Voiced By: Jonathon Bradley (English), Soungdok (Japanese), Kim Sol (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Support

A crocodile-like resident from Debia whose aggressive appearance hides his kindness. He is a support Esper who can inflict debuffs on one enemy or even attempt to remove buffs and debuffs from all foes.

  • Fire Slash deals damage to an enemy based on Daylon’s ATK and has a chance to inflict Bleed.
  • Double Slash deals damage to an enemy based on Daylon’s ATK and has a chance to inflict Stun and DEF Down.
  • Hydro-Inferno Combo deals damage to all enemies based on Daylon’s ATK and reduces their AP. When ascended, it also has a chance to dispel all enemy buffs and debuffs.

  • Animal Motifs: The crocodile, taking cues from the Egyptian god Sobek, who was depicted with a crocodile head.
  • Beast Man: A crocodile. Notably the second known beast man (next to Drew) thus far who’s on the side of the Union.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Though his appearance doesn't evoke "good guy" vibes, he's actually a very kind Chief Ops for the Union who loves gardening.
  • The Dreaded: Because of his overall menacing appearance, people keep their distance from him. They even misinterpret whenever he comes home all muddied up with a smile on his face (because he was really gardening).
  • Duality Motif: Has a bit of this going on; he’s a kind soul with a rough exterior, giving him two sides to his personality, and his swords have a Fire/Water Juxtaposition. It traces back to Sobek, a god of both fertility and military prowess.
  • Dual Wielding: He wields two large broadswords of fire and water. The Egyptian god Sobek was associated with military prowess.
  • Fire/Water Juxtaposition: His swords. One of them controls fire and the other controls water. His third ability is even called Hydro-Inferno Combo.
  • Green Thumb: One of his favorite pasttimes is gardening. His summoning animation even has him slashing and hacking a little venus flytrap. This lines up to the Egyptian god Sobek, who was a god known for fertility.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: He even has a belt strapped around his maw.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: He takes on Kaylee's cat Chili but has trouble trying to bond with it despite his very best attempts. And then he mistakenly ends up bringing another similar-looking cat (he thought Chili had run out from his home) who actually likes him, and it even helps him in making Chili warm up to him because Chili became friends with it. Cue Daylon happily adopting the new cat.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: On Kaylee's behest, he takes up the role of a villain (Captain Crocodile) in a stage play. The kids are absolutely terrified of him because of his looks that they run away from him even for a photo shoot, so Kaylee tries to pass his character as a good guy for the next stage play. However, the kids turn out to have liked him better as a villain because they were pretending to be scared just to fool around, but they still warm up to him enough to get a lot of photo shoots, much to his relief.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Averted and then played straight. His eyes might be red, but he's very kind. On the other hand, if he does get angry, his red eyes flash.
  • The Reliable One: It's his belief that actions speak louder than words, and so he does everything he can to be reliable to his comrades, no matter how small or big the task is.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His pants are filled with them everywhere. However, he's no villain.
  • Status-Buff Dispel: His main utility is his chance to dispel all of his enemies' buffs with Hydro-Inferno Combo. Though it can also dispel debuffs from them, you obviously want him to dispel only buffs.
  • True Companions: With Kaylee, whom he had helped out in finding her lost Union ID card 2 years ago. Ever since then, she has been close friends with him.
  • The Unsmile: To his chagrin and dismay, his crocodile smile frightens up people, especially little kids. On the other hand, it scares thugs, so it balances out.

"Practice is better than boring books."

Voiced By: Stan Morris (English), Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Japanese), Seo Jung-ik (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Controller

An introvert centaur from Woodville, who is also a Miramon researcher and teacher at the Esper Union. After overcoming obstacles leading him to find his way of teaching, he became one of the most popular teachers.

  • Courage Shot deals damage to an enemy based on Daniel's max HP. It has a chance to inflict Silence, and if successful, Daniel gains Recovery.
  • Centaur's Blessing consumes HP to grant ATK Up and Shield to all allies. Shield strength is based on a percentage of Daniel's Max HP.
  • Meteor Flurry consumes HP to damage all enemies multiple times based on Daniel's Max HP. Each hit has a chance to reduce enemy AP. When ascended, if an enemy's HP percentage is higher than Daniel's, they will be stunned.

  • Animal Motifs: The centaur from Greek mythology. Unlike fellow centaur Esper Jin Yuyao (who has the body of a tiger), Daniel is a traditional horse-bodied centaur, even having a pair of horse ears poking out of his hair as well as wearing a bridle on his face.
  • Badass Bookworm: He is knowledgeable and a popular teacher at the Union, taking cues from the centaur Chiron, who was the only one among the rest of the savage centaurs for having wisdom and knowledge in medicine.
  • Beast Man: His lower body is a horse's lower body. He is barely human-looking unlike the rest of the fully humanoid beast Inferno Espers.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Both Centaur's Blessing and Meteor Flurry consume a portion of Daniel's HP when used.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He was mentioned in the career profiles of two other Espers (Sienna's, as her student, and Long Mian's, as his former mentor) before becoming playable himself.
  • Friend to All Children: He's very kind to his students and very good at it too, which contrasted when he was changed to becoming an instructor and he fumbled up at the beginning.
  • Horse Archer: He is a centaur who wields a bow and arrow.

"Who do you want to curse today?"

Voiced By: Vii Zedek (English), Risa Tsumugi (Japanese), Gang Eun-ae (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Fighter

An emotionless spellcaster and expert in curses working under Yun Chuan. She is a Figher Esper who uses her Voodoo Doll debuff to deal increased damage to her targets.

  • Mei has a unique debuff called Voodoo Doll, which increases the damage that the carrier takes from her.
  • Replacing Graft deals damage to an enemy based on Mei's ATK and heals Mei for a portion of the damage dealt.
  • Wither Branch deals damage to all enemies based on Mei's ATK and grants her ATK Up. If any of her targets do not have the Voodoo Doll debuff, then Mei decreases the cooldown on Sky Totem by one turn per target, up to two total.
  • Sky Totem deals damage to all enemies based on Mei's ATK and grants her C. RATE Up. All enemies receive Voodoo Doll, and after casting this ability, any enemy with Voodoo Doll is then hit by Replacing Graft, with some of their DEF being ignored.

  • Blessed with Suck: The use of her powers causes her to lose her emotions and ability to feel pain. Her fourth career blurb describes her as turning into a plant, and her third one states that she doesn't want to lose herself and turn into a monster, which is how Feng Nuxi recruited her while telling her that she was working on a way to reverse Esper transformations.
  • Breaking Old Trends: She's the first Esper to be available through the Championship event to also be female.
  • Creepy Doll: Seems to be a running theme of hers. She carries around straw dolls that she tries to give to people as gifts, only for them to run away terrified, and her unique buff is called Voodoo Doll. Her emotionless demeanor, spellcasting skills, and ball-jointed legs also make her look like one herself.
  • Older Than They Look: She's 20, but looks like a preteen.

Voiced By: Luci Christian (English), Maaya Uchida (Japanese), Lee Saet-byeol (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Support

A club owner and Union member who can speak with plants.
Asenath is a healer who can increase her AP using the Lotus Mark buff.

  • Flower of Resentment deals damage based on a percentage of Asenath’s ATK. It also has a chance to dispel a buff from the target.
  • Dancing Buds heals all allies equal to a mix of their max HP and Asenath’s ATK, as well as granting Recovery to the party.
  • Lotus Steps increases the party’s AP and grants them all Lotus Mark. Lotus Mark reduces the amount of damage taken and disappears when an ally is attacked. When ascended, Asenath gains increased AP whenever a Lotus Mark disappears.

  • Berserk Button: Since she sees her plants as her family, she despises anyone who would do them harm. Don’t give her drinks with fresh fruits or veggies in them either.
  • Blessed with Suck: When she first received her powers as a teenager, she didn’t know what was going on, and the voices of the plants only brought her anguish and negative thoughts. It wasn’t until Laura convinced her to study at the Union Academy that she learned to get a hold on her powers and see them in a more positive light.
  • Flower Motifs: While she can speak with all kinds of plants, she’s specifically associated with lotuses. This is because the god Nefertem is associated with the same flower.
  • Flying Broomstick: Rides her staff in this way when pulled from the gacha.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She has a mature appearance and elegant movements, and is decked out in purple from head to toe.
  • Green Thumb: Her powers allow her to speak with plants, and she summons lotus flowers in battle.
  • Sideboob: Given how well endowed she is, her outfit shows a lot of this.
  • Talking to Plants: Her Esper powers allow her to speak with plants of all kinds.
  • Walking the Earth: For a while, anyway. After graduating from the Union Academy, Asenath traveled the continent with her new and improved abilities to learn more about it through the plants. After learning how complicated and dangerous it really was, however, she returned to the Union so that she could get the assistance she was looking for and continue her travels.

  • Whiplash deals damage to an enemy based on Lin Xiao's ATK, and inlficts two stacks of Bleed. If she lands a critical hit, she'll inflict two stacks of Diseased too.
  • Light of the Tiger grants Lin Xiao three stacks of Tiger Roar, which increases the C. RATE of her next attack. She deals damage to enemies based on her ATK, and has a chance to inflict SPD Down and DEF Down.

  • The Alcoholic: And she's one mean drunk person.
  • Amazonian Beauty: She is big, ripped, and ferocious.
  • Animal Motifs: The white tiger, representing the Chinese White Tiger (Bái-Hǔ); one of the Four Symbols and White Tiger of the West.
  • Character Development: When she was accused of a crime she didn't commit, she couldn't solve her problems with strength. But when Luo Yan helped her out without strength, she came to realize that strength really wasn't the answer to everything and so set out to expand her horizons. She stopped being the cocky fighter she used to be once she joined the Union. It wasn't long before she earned the respect from her colleagues for her straightforward personality and incredible work ethic.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She grew up without a mother and was bullied for it at school, where she had nothing but her fists to solve her problems, worrying her father whenever she came home covered in dirt and blood. When the bullies stopped getting in her way, she then grew up with the belief that strength conquers all.
  • The Dreaded: People tend to run away from her when she's drunk, because she'll drag any unlucky person into the ring and beat them within an inch of their life.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She literally was unanimously declared the most volatile operative in the Esper Union due to her violent tendencies.
  • The Scapegoat: She was blamed for a crime she didn't commit and couldn't prove her innocence for it, until Luo Yan stepped in and cleared her name, earning her complete respect and loyalty.

  • Iron Wall grants all allies CRIT Resist as well as a shield. The HP of the shield is based on Laura's Max HP. If an ally already has a shield, their shield gets extra HP.

  • Barrier Warrior: Not only is her weapon of choice a shield, but her whole kit revolves around shielding her allies.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She's very stout in shape. Most of her character reviews have players adoring her for it.
  • Combat Medic: She graduated medical school with honors and became a surgeon. Ironically, you won't see her doing much healing to her allies in battle, but her extra effects do provide healing aftereffects.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Just like Ollie and Drew, she endured the fall of House Ramses, losing her adoptive parents and home.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Her horned headwrap completely obscures her eyes.
  • Happily Adopted: She is very grateful for being adopted into House Ramses that she has strived to repay her adoptive parents' kindness by becoming someone worthy of the family. Plus, she wants to become just like her adoptive parents.
  • The Heart: After the fall of House Ramses, out of Ollie and Drew, she took on this role. Drew had become borderline despondent and needed someone to wake him up, while Ollie ran away from home and needed someone to secretly watch over him from afar.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Carries around a large shield she uses to, well, shield her allies in battle.
  • Only One Name: Averted. She's one of the few non-Chinese Espers to have a last name. Her full name is Laura Ramses, and she uses it as her SwiftSpace name.
  • The Reliable One: She strives to be someone worthy of House Ramses by indulging herself in many different activities from battle and medical research, setting high goals and being extremely strict with herself since she was a child. It's not uncommon to see people waiting for her counsel every morning.
  • Renaissance Woman: She's The Reliable One because she is always expanding her horizons from battle to medical expertise. She embodies the Egyptian goddess Neith, who was known as the the goddess of creation, wisdom, weaving, and war.
  • True Companions: With Odette, who connected with Laura before Odette started to defrost.

    Taylor (Hercules)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/taylor_hercules.png
"Just me, or did I get stronger? Hah."

Voiced By: Blythe Merlin (English), Soungdok (Japanese), Kim Shin-woo (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Fighter

A hulking weapons engineer whose large appearance hides his incredible intellect and gentle heart. He is a fighter Esper whose unique Hero's Wrath passive allows him to keep attacking when knocking out a foe.

  • Power Impact attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Taylor’s ATK. Taylor also gains a Shield, and this attack’s damage increases for every certain percentage of Max HP Taylor has lost.
  • Hero’s Wrath is a Passive Ability. Taylor gains an extra turn when killing an enemy, and enemies killed by him cannot be revived.
  • Soul Blast gives Taylor ATK Up and C. RATE Up, and then he deals damage to an enemy based on his ATK as well as dispelling all their buffs. Taylor himself takes some True Damage when using this ability, but this damage cannot kill him. When ascended, if his target doesn’t die, this ability’s cooldown is shortened by one turn.

  • Badass Normal: Not him per se, but it's thanks to his research in weaponry against Miramon that allowed non-Espers to have a fighting chance.
  • The Big Guy: Alongside Pritzker, he's the tallest human Esper (standing at 200cm).
  • Gentle Giant: Though he is large and may cause accidents due to his appearance, he's a very gentle person.
  • The Klutz: Due to his hulking body, he oftens breaks things by accident.
  • Super-Strength: His main strength, which rather obviously takes cues from the Greek hero Hercules.
  • Testosterone Poisoning: He's massive, the most muscular of all human Espers, and he's shirtless. Yup.
  • Volcanic Veins: Throughout his body, his veins glow blue.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He doesn't wear a shirt, revealing his very masculine physique.

    Odette (Skadi)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/odette_sprite.png
"Stop dawdling! Let's hurry up and catch the next criminal!"

Voiced By: Nola Klop (English), Mariko Kanke (Japanese), Kim Bo-na (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Controller

A cold-looking Scavenger member skiier from Raine Tundra whose fierce expression hides a kind person. She is a controller Esper who can provide her allies with Cold Armor.

  • Her Cold Armor buff absorbs damage based on Shield strength. When attacked, Cold Armor inflicts ATK DOWN and SPD DOWN on the attacker. If the attacker already has SPD DOWN, then Cold Armor has a chance to freeze them.
  • Ice Lance deals damage to an enemy based on Odette's ATK, and has a chance to freeze them.
  • Ice Barrier grants Cold Armor to all allies. Cold Armor's strength is based on Odette's Max HP.
  • Bitter Cold World deals damage to an enemy based on Odette's ATK. This move freezes both the target and Odette, which the target cannot resist, and Odette gains Immunity, Recovery, and Cold Armor. When ascended, if Odette fails to freeze the target, she will do bonus damage based on her Max HP.

  • Big Eater: Sadly for her, she couldn't even beat up a young girl in a pizza eating contest by being one plate behind.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She used to loathe the idea of teaming up with any of her colleagues (other than Laura), though she let go of her hatred when she captured the criminals who killed her parents and when Laura had rescued her when Odette was trapped in the enemy's camp.
  • Humiliation Conga: She planned a trip to the Raine Tundra for Laura so she could unwind. Unfortunately, all of Odette's scheduled activities got botched one way or another. Thankfully, Laura still enjoyed seeing the snowfields (as Laura hailed from a desert region) and still got to enjoy the stars at night.
  • An Ice Person: Her powers are ice-based, and she can actually be a nice person when spoken to.
  • Jerk Jock: She used to push other colleagues away from working together with her on missions before Character Development kicked in.
  • True Companions: With Laura, who was the only person who looked after Odette even before Odette began to defrost in personality.

Legendary Espers

    Gabrielle (Njord)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gabrielle_njord.png
"Don't forget to exercise."
Determined Heart

Voiced By: Abigail Turner (English), Yui Tsukada (Japanese), Yi Sae-ah (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Support

A boisterous gym junkie whose intimidating appearance stands in front of her reliability as a commander. She is a support Esper who can provide protective buffs to her team while debilitating foes.

  • Wavebreaker attack an enemy multiple times, dealing damage based on Gabrielle's ATK, and deals additional damage based on her SPD.
  • Broadside attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Gabrielle's ATK. Each hit has a chance of inflicting DEF Down.
  • Rush attacks all enemies multiple times, dealing damage based on Gabrielle's ATK and inflicting ATK Down. Meanwhile, the party will gain DEF Up and, when this ability is ascended, Immunity.

  • Amazonian Beauty: She is very muscular, as shown off by her very short shorts and very tight shirt.
  • Anchors Away: Her weapon is a giant black anchor that she swings around to attack with.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Donar, who shares the same mindset in a healthy lifestyle through working out and going through a similar Character Development phase like her. They also happen to be gym buddies. Can cross into Distaff Counterpart territory. They even have an extremely similar menu animation (jumping, slamming their fist down, and retrieving their weapon).
  • Character Development: Her Esper transformation brought her no end of strife as she was unable to control it and keep people around her safe. Her mentor Pritzker managed to help her out, eventually leading her into becoming a commander.
  • The Dreaded: Her open-mindness and directness earn the favor of both friends and foes alike, except, the difference is her allies actually survive interactions with her.
  • Fragile Speedster: Inverted. Gabrielle is one of the fastest Espers in the game, but she is quite tanky. Her basic attack encourages the use of high speed to deal more damage, even.
  • Making a Splash: Being the Esper of Njord, a sea god, her attacks are water based.
  • Mighty Glacier: She excels at having high defense, which is complimented by her skills debilitating foes' attack power while buffing up her team's defense on top of granting them immunity to ailments.
  • The Reliable One: Colleagues and allies alike agree that her counsel has led them to reevaluate their lives due to her seeing what others can't.

    Sienna (Gaia)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sienna_gaia.png
"Late is late, no excuse."

Voiced By: Melba Sibrel King (English), Hiromi Hirata (Japanese), Gabin (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Support

A Union professor known for her merciless criticism and meticulousness in her work, but is far more approachable outside her research. She is a Support Esper good at giving her and her allies more opportunities to strike.

  • Guardian Vine deals damage to an enemy based on Sienna's ATK. It grants some extra AP to Sienna and a random ally.
  • Earth's Blessing grants ATK Up and SPD Up to the entire party.
  • Wrath of the World deals damage to all enemies based on Sienna's ATK and erases their AP. Upon successful erasure, the chance to inflict Stun increases and the ability's cooldown shortens. When ascended, Sienna gets an extra turn upon using this ability.

  • Action Initiative: Her Wrath of the World, when ascended, lets her gain an extra turn right away.
  • Animal Lover: Her fourth career blurb notes that she loves animals, and even has two dogs and a cat of her own.
  • Birds of a Feather: She feels she's this with Gaius, as both of them use their powers for rudimentary problems like powering up a greehouse's light while she used her to restore the environment.
  • Garden Garment: The sheer parts of her outfit are adorned with flowers, and her collar looks like it was woven from flower stems.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Part of the reason she's so hard to work with is because she wants to teach her students that their enemies won't give them any chances during battles.
  • Green Thumb: Her attacks are largely plant based.
  • Mother Nature: She is the Esper of Gaia, Greek goddess of the Earth, so she's the closest thing the game has. Bonus points for (allegedly) being the oldest playable female Esper.
  • Needlework Is for Old People: She's apparently 60, believe it or not, and knitting is one of her hobbies. Her fourth career blurb reveals that she once shared the hobby with her late lover.
  • Older Than They Look: She looks incredibly youthful for a 60-year-old. However, it should be noted that her profile mysteriously changed from her being 19 to 60 without warning, so it's unclear which should be her real age.
  • Rock Monster: Wrath of the World sees her summon a giant one to crush the enemy party.
  • Stern Teacher: Sienna is known for her harsh criticism and strict standards as a professor, and the game notes that it's not uncommon to see a student running out of her office in tears. She's aware of how difficult she is to work with, but refuses to lower her standards. As it turns out, she's not purposely trying to belittle anyone, but just making sure that her students are just as analytical and ready for anything as she is... which in turn makes her come off as incredibly critical.
  • Vapor Wear: The sheer parts of her outfit make it evident that she's at least not wearing a bra.

    Ahmed (Geb)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ahmed_geb.png
"It's my job to heal and entertain."

Voiced By: Chris Potter (English), Kōhei Amasaki (Japanese), Hong Seung-hyo (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Support

A famous celebrity singer and a top-ranked med-team ops chief of the Esper Union. Not many know that his dedication for his job at the Union matches his celebrity status. He is a support Esper who can heal everyone while providing them with his unique Supporting Song effect.

  • Ahmed's Supporting Song ability grants a percentage of base ATK boost per stack. There is a limit to how many stacks an Esper can have.
  • Prelude to Life deals damage to an enemy based on a mix of Ahmed's ATK and max HP. It also heals an ally for a portion of Ahmed's max HP.
  • Warm Harmonics is a passive ability. When Ahmed actively casts a healing ability, he passively heals the ally with the lowest HP. If the ally suffers from a max HP penalty, Ahmed will restore the target's max HP threshold by a set percentage and grant a stack of Supporting Song. If the target's HP is below a certain percentage, Ahmed will grant another stack of Supporting Song. When ascended, if Ahmed's target is inflicted with Diseased, he'll clear that from them too.
  • World Stage reduces the ability cooldowns of the whole party and heals whichever allies have the lowest HP a certain number of times, restoring their HP equal to a portion of Ahmed's max HP. The cooldown of this ability will not be affected by Unit Abilities.

  • A Day in the Limelight: Of the Charity Show sidequest, where he ensures that the preparitions for his show won't run into problems.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Discussed with Heng Yue. While she believes that Esperhood has brought nothing but more trouble to the people, Ahmed believes it's a blessing needed to do more good. The two of them don't come to an agreement, but they agree to disagree.
  • Friend to All Children: Due to his humble beginnings, he always tries to make time for charities that involve children and wants to lift the youth out of poverty.
  • Innocently Insensitive: When trying to cheer up colleagues, he frequently only makes things worse by saying the wrong things.
  • The Medic: His main job, which is derived from the Egyptian god of earthquakes, farming, fertility, and healing Geb.
  • Self-Made Man: He started out as a poor man who worked hard to become the celebrity he is today. He was even working at a fast food restaurant on his way to stardom.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: His rise to fame happened so suddenly when he used to be alone. With all the attention he got from out of the blue, he can come across as aloof, though he strives to make new friends.
  • Wise Beyond His Years: He displays maturity beyond his years which have made him a trustworthy companion.

    Tang Xuan (Sun Wukong)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tang_xuan_sun_wukong.png
"There's a mission?! Let's leave at once!"
Pious Red

Voiced By: Stephen Roe (English), Natsuki Hanae (Japanese), Shin Beom-sik (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Fighter

A helpful, friendly, popular man who's a legend within the Esper Union. Tang Xuan is a fighter who can use special Enchantments to inflict several status ailments on his foes.

  • Tang Xuan has three Enchantments that he can give to himself. They are:
    • Scorch, which can inflicted Diseased upon attacking a target.
    • Death, which inflicts additional damage based on the target's Max HP (but below a certain percentage of their ATK).
    • Shackle, which can inflict DEF Down upon attacking a target.
  • Righteous Anger deals damage to a target and lesser damage to two other random enemies on the field, based on Tang Xuan's ATK. It'll also give Tang Xuan a random Enchantment, and imbues the damage with all the Enchantments he currently has.
  • Enchanting Dream absorbs all of Tang Xuan's current Enchantments and does damage to an enemy based on his ATK. It'll also restore a percentage of his max HP for each Enchantment absorbed. When ascended, the ability also grants him a shield.
  • Shattering Dream grants Tang Xuan all three kinds of his Enchantments before attacking enemies twice, dealing damage based on a percentage of his ATK.

  • Always Someone Better: He's far more successful as an Esper than his reclusive younger brother Tang Yun is.
  • Always Identical Twins: With his brother Tang Yun before they became Espers, which made it much easier to tell them apart. Even after that they still share some identical attributes, such as similar weapons, hairstyles, and a love of pudding.
  • Animal Motifs: The monkey, or more accurately, the monkey god Sun Wukong. His younger brother Tang Yun, meanwhile, represents the fake Sun Wukong Six-Eared Macaque.
  • Artwork and Game Graphics Segregation: Either his skin is albino-toned as shown in his picture here, or he's got tanned skin in his in-game model.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Lewis understand each other due to both of them losing a sibling to the Shadow Decree (in Lewis's case, Bonnie).
  • Bratty Half-Pint: When he was younger, his sense of justice was superficial at worst, until he had a major breakthrough working for the Union.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Tang Yun's Cain.
  • Camera Abuse: His menu animation has him arriving from the sky and smashing his pole into the screen before he retrieves it while jumping back into position. The cracks get repaired, thankfully.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Absolutely adores helping out people in need, even before they deal with any issues by asking them.
  • Cowardly Lion: Doesn't do well in pitch-black darkness. Ironically, his powers are from the Sun Wukong.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Stars in the Sea of Sorrow event, looking into the assassin organization "The Crows" on a luxury ship.
    • And then later in the Sands of Guilt event.
  • Deuteragonist: Of the Truth Unveiled event, having been tasked by Raven (during his vacation) to check on Li Ling's furious attempts to get through the Radiant Guardians keeping him from learning about Yun Chuan's whereabouts.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: The pupils of his eyes are 4-pointed white stars running across.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: The fortune teller he helps paying the bill for turns out to have met him and his brother when they were younger, promising to meet Tang Xuan after foretelling that he and his brother would split up.
  • Good Luck Charm: He helps out an alleged fortune teller by paying her bill at an eatery and receives her jade pendant as a reward. Li Ling believes her to be a fraud, until the pendant mysteriously saves Tang Xuan's life during a Miramon attack.
  • Identical Twin Mistake: Prior becoming Espers that changed their appearances, people and even their own parents had trouble recognizing Tang Xuan for his younger brother Tang Yun.
  • It's All My Fault: Blames himself for Tang Yun joining the Shadow Decree. However, Lewis retorts that it was Tang Yun's own decision to go there, rather than being indirectly convinced by Tang Xuan.
  • Loved by All: For many citizens and even within the Esper Union. His partners simply love working with him.
  • Monkey King Lite: Kind of a given, being the Esper of Sun Wukong.
  • My Greatest Failure: His pursuit of becoming a hero made Tang Xuan doubt his zealousness when he had to abandon the one person that needed him most, most likely his brother becoming an Evil Twin.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: His sunny and bright disposition clashes very hard against Tang Yun's dark and morbid disposition.
  • The Pollyanna: His bright outlook in life is said to be infectious to his colleagues.
  • Recurring Extra: He's been the most featured Esper who has focus (Sea of Sorrow, Sands of Guilt) or some (Truth Unveiled) of it during events than the rest of the heroic Espers. The other closest Esper who falls slightly behind by one off-event is Tevor.
  • Self-Deprecation: He laments that he's not good enough to protect people far away from the city's lights and that makes him think it's All for Nothing. Drew convinces him otherwise, stating that the people under the lights of the city have normal lives because of their heroics.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Formerly one, until he learned that an Esper must be responsible when living up to the expectations of others.
  • Starter Mon: He is one of two guaranteed Legendary Espers (next to Li Ling) that can join new players in their first Echo session.
  • Sweet Tooth: Enjoys coming back home to eat strawberry pudding. About the only thing that he shares with Tang Yun as of now.
  • Those Two Guys: With Li Ling. Ironically, a starting player can get either of them as their first guaranteed Legendary Esper from their first full echo session.

    Ashley (Heimdall)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ashley_heimdall.png
"Nothing escapes my eyes and ears."

Voiced By: Abigail Turner (English), Mariko Kanke (Japanese), Kang Sae-bom (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Fighter

An elite Esper stationed at the Union sentry tower who is always on the lookout, known for her heroism that saved many people when Hazlitt was ravaged by the Miramon. Ashley is a fighter Esper who can assist or counter Critical Hits with her unique Rainbow Bridge buff.

  • Cloud Scatter deals damage to an enemy based on Ashley's ATK and has a chance to inflict SPD Down.
  • Divine Retribution attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Ashley's ATK. If a target's ATK is lower than Ashley's she has a chance to stun them.
  • Daring Spirit attacks all eneies, dealing damage based on Ashley's ATK. The party gains ATK up, while Ashley herself gains DEF Up and a shield, as well as five stacks of Rainbow Bridge. Rainbow Bridge triggers when either an ally or an enemy deals a Critical Hit. If it's an ally, they'll deal extra True Damage based on the target's Max HP and reduce their AP. If it's an enemy, then the whole team gets an AP increase. A stack of the buff is consumed whenever it is triggered; there can be up to seven stacks at a time. When ascended, Ashley will gain three stacks of Rainbow Bridge at the start of a battle.

  • Action Initiative: Her Rainbow Bridge buff allows everyone on her side to gain AP up to three times whenever someone is struck with a critical hit.
  • BFS: Her sword is nearly as tall as she is.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Besides how she's always on high alert, she can't even feel relaxed when people are troubled by personal issues that don't involve protection from the Miramon that she tries to fix them.
  • Color Motif: White, in her hair, outfit, and even her eyelashes. It ties back to the Norse God Heimdall, who was called “the whitest-skinned of the gods”.
    • Rainbow Motif: In contrast to her all white appearance, her sword emits rainbows when she swings it, and her unique buff is called Rainbow Bridge. Like her association with white, it’s another reference to Heimdall, who guarded Bifrost AKA the rainbow bridge at the entrance to Asgard.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Starts in the Fireworks Celebration sidequest, where she stays on high alert when an unknown bomber threatens to kill people during the celebration.
  • Friend to All Living Things: If her charity poem is anything to go by, animals love her.
  • Immune to Jump Scares: In one side story, Tang Xuan repeatedly tries to scare her in the middle of the night on All Hallow’s Eve, but Ashley sees right through it every time… until it’s revealed that it was all a distraction so that Q could get the jump on her instead. Ashley wound up swinging her sword at them to get them back.
  • My Greatest Failure: Not being able to save everyone during the Hazlitt incident, choosing to save more people than a few. Jasper turns out to have survived the incident and became incredibly hostile to Ashley for not saving her parents when she could. This pushed Jasper into trying to kill innocent people at the fireworks celebration in retaliation.
  • The Needs of the Many: She saved many people when Hazlitt was being ravaged by Miramon, but she feels guilty for not saving the few people she had to leave to die in order to save as many lives as she could.
  • Performance Anxiety: After enlisting Meredith’s help to turn a poem she wrote about dogs and cats into a song for a charity event, she gets so nervous on stage that she starts stuttering and fumbling the words before abruptly exiting. Amazingly, the animals in the crowd loved the poem, and she wound up going viral online as the “Kitty Poet”.
  • Power Gives You Wings: She has six massive ones, which are a regular sight to the citizens on the streets.
  • Samaritan Syndrome: While she understands that she can’t save everyone, she still feels guilty for the times that she can’t, and wound up falling into depression at one point because of it.
  • Stripperific: Her outfit is made up of some pieces of long white fabric, black and silver armor around her arms, waist, and neck, and a few belts and harnesses for good measure. It doesn’t leave much to the imagination, and it helps that she’s rather well-endowed.
  • Superpower Disability: Her enhanced hearing is this to her. She's unable to get proper sleep because she can listen to people talking from afar if she can't use her noise-cancelling headphones, and even a meager set of small fireworks blowing up nearby can stun her into place.
  • Super-Hearing: Her Esper powers gave her this, in reference to Heimdall who had the same abilities. While it helps her with her job, it also makes her very sensitive to noise.
  • Supering in Your Sleep: During a time where Ashley couldn’t sleep on a day off because her noise-canceling headphones were in for repairs, Stewart tried using his powers to hypnotize her into falling asleep. This worked for a moment, until she started to swing her sword and launch rainbows around the lounge while she was still asleep because she was having a dream where she needed to protect someone.

    Yun Chuan (Yang Jian)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yun_chuan_yang_jian.png
"Nothing can stop this spear of mine!"

Voiced By: Brian Stivale (English), Yusuke Kei (Japanese), Yun Yong-sik (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Fighter

An expert martial artist, member of the Li family's security team, and the family's most famous warrior. It's been said that he's worth a thousand men. He's Li Ling's master, who taught him humility and not to misuse his Esper powers since Li Ling was a young kid. He is a fighter Esper with access to multi-stage attacks and pursuit attacks.

  • Roaring Thrust hits an enemy multiple times based on Yun Chuan’s ATK, and has a chance to inflict Miss Rate Up.
  • Whistling Stance is a passive ability. Upon landing a Critical Hit, Yun Chuan inflicts Third Eye Seal upon his target, which increases their Miss Rate. When Yun Chuan hits an enemy with Third Eye Seal, his canine companion Screamer will also attack the target. Screamer deals damage based on Yun Chuan’s ATK, ignores enemy DEF, and inflicts Sear. When ascended, Screamer will also fetch the target’s buffs and give them to Yun Chuan. Screamer’s attacks can only be triggered a certain number of times.
  • Guardian Lord attacks all enemies multiple times, dealing damage based on Yun Chuan’s ATK and inflicting SPD Down. The whole party gains SPD Up, while Yun Chuan gains Immunity.

  • Badass Normal: When Li Ling was a kid with Esper powers, Li Ling used his powers to beat up even adults to submission. Yun Chuan wasn't even an Esper and yet he completely kicked Li Ling's ass, which made Li Ling want to become his pupil.
  • Birds of a Feather: He and Li Xiao were orphans on the streets being abused by higher powers. When Li Xiao first met him, he couldn't help seeing himself in Yun Chuan, and after Li Xiao recognized Yun Chuan's righteous heart, the two became best friends.
  • Blessed with Suck: His third eye either scares children or makes it hard for him to try blocking all his eyes from staring into a pretty lady.
  • Brutal Honesty: The "brutal" part is for himself. When a lady smitten by him tries to get him to dance, his blunt comments before and after the dance are about how said lady was going too far with her appearance that he was annoying her, until her elegant dress made him very uncomfortable that he blurted out loudly that she looked pretty wearing it.
  • Canine Companion: He's accompanied by his loyal dog Screamer, who assists him in battle. His dog represents Yang Jian's faithful "Howling Celestial Dog," who assisted Yang Jian in subduing evil spirits. In a similar fashion, Screamer functions as an Assist Character to Yun Chuan, attacking as a part of his passive ability.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: When he was younger, his sense of justice was rough around the edges and often caused him problems until his father put him in the straight and narrow. By the time Yun Chuan had become better at applying justice, he met Li Ling and beat him soundly, convincing Li Ling to become his master.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Truth Unveiled event, involving his whereabouts within Nether Gaol.
  • The Dreaded: No one wants to be around this guy when he's bored. This always leads to him into doing intensive workout that he will force anyone incapable of following his lead to do it with him. The phrase "Yun Chuan is bored" has become a warning signal in the Union.
  • Dreadful Musician: He loves playing a flute that his dog Screamer loves listening to. The problem is, Li Ling confused the tune of the flute for the Union's alarm several times, implying this trope.
  • Faking the Dead: Li Ling began to assume that this happened once he saw an online newspaper about Yun Chuan being around. He was right. Yun Chuan never died, but rather, a false death report was made while he was actually Walking the Earth to hide.
  • Generation Xerox: Out of all his well-versed and knowlegeable family members, he was the only one to inherit his father's strength.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Very doting on his man-eating dog Screamer.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He's ripped, his favorite hobby is working out (which he does push-ups with one hand even when his wolf Screamer stands on him as his summoning animation), and he's a Walking Shirtless Scene. Yup.
  • One-Man Army: His status as a Badass Normal cemented this. Becoming an Esper upped that several notches.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Instead of giving Li Xiao death, Yun Chuan punches him good for harassing Li Ling, Tang Xuan, and himself, saying that killing Li Xiao is just an easy way for him to attone. Rather, he lets Li Xiao live so that he can properly atone and become a better person while living with his guilt.
  • The Scapegoat: He was falsely accused of a crime he didn't commit and was sentenced into Nether Gaol. What's more, he even had a faked death just to arrest him, and all information of him being alive was kept under wraps. Though it turns out he took the fall for Li Xiao, who was the one who triggered the false alarm out of pure stress for being just a pawn to the Radiant Guards, because he was worried for him and knew deep down that only Li Xiao was the right person to look after Tangton.
  • Third Eye: He has a glowing red one on his forehead, representing Yang Jian’s truth-seeing third eye.
  • Training from Hell: His workout routines are this to people who can't keep up with him, and they can be rather unorthodox. For example, his idea of working out is literally wrestling jagalions (and even hanging out with them until another one would start another fight) after setting a very elaborate plan that lasted for days just to get started on it (the guy who had asked him to be his trainer secretly excused himself from how horrific the training was).
  • True Companions: Was one with Li Xiao until Yun Chuan mysteriously disappeared. Even after Li Xiao is defeated and asked Yun Chuan to kill him for all the crap he did, Yun Chuan just beats him to a bloody pulp but tells him that he still has a chance to repent with his guilt to become a better person. Yun Chuan had also turned down the chance to escape from Nether Gaol when Li Xiao - before his Face–Heel Turn - had made a secret escape route, because Yun Chuan truly believes that only Li Xiao had what it takes to change Tangton for the better. He didn't even care that Li Xiao had betrayed him anyway, as long as it meant Tangton would be in his hands.
  • Walking the Earth: His assumed death was fabricated by Li Xiao, who believed him to be dead until he also saw the online article depicting Yun Chuan alive and well. As it turns out, Yun Chuan's Bolivian Army Ending led to him traveling the world to hide.

Farrah & Aminah (Abzu & Tiamat)

"I will fall... and then, perish."

Voiced By: Michelle Jin (English), Aina Aiba (Japanese), Park Si-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Role: Controller

A member of the Esper Union's Scavengers. She's a meek woman with self-esteem issues who shares her body with Aminah, who enjoys the thrill of killing enemies with her own Esper power to keep Farrah safe in her own way. She is a Controller Esper who can act fast while slowing and even freezing her enemies.

  • Farrah has a unique buff called Synergy. This buff makes her immune to getting her AP lowered and reduces the damage she takes.
  • Tide Slash grants Farrah ATK Up, and then she attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on her ATK. When ascended, Farrah deals splash damage if the target is frozen.
  • Coldwater Splash freezes all enemies. Then Farrah attacks them all twice, dealing damage based on her ATK. Each hit inflicts the enemies with DEF Down. Farrah is guaranteed to land critical hits on frozen enemies.
  • Stormy Waves dispells two buffs from all enemies, freezes them, and gives them SPD Down. Then Farrah attacks them all twice, dealing damage based on her ATK. Farrah then gains Synergy. Farrah also gains Synergy at the start of a fight. If Farrah has Synergy at the start of her turn, she will dispell all control effects from herself. While Synergy is active, Farrah gains AP when being attacked.

  • An Ice Person: A large part of Farrah's kit is inflicting Freeze on her targets.
  • Awful Truth: Her mother Daphne was the one who sent her to the "orphanage" which was really a research facility where many gruesome experiments were done on Farrah to add a second Esper power. Though Daphne didn't know the orphanage was fake, she had a feeling something was off but went ahead with sending Farrah there, which was a grave mistake that Farrah subconciously buried in her mind until she remembers and can't bear to see her mother ever again.
  • Ax-Crazy: Aminah is a relentless crazy entity who either slaughters everyone she sees...or pranks them.
  • Body Horror: Her right hand became an elongated limb that looks like algae. That's without mentioning that half of her body is being occupied by Aminah, their upper bodies splitting apart from the top. Even Aminah herself is deformed, with special mention going to her long neck.
  • Brains and Brawn: Farrah is the one who handles reconnaissance while Aminah handles battles in her stead.
  • Breaking Old Trends: She's got two god powers instead of the usual one for an Esper, thanks to Aminah having another Esper power.
  • Broken Bird: Hoo boy, just see her Dark and Troubled Past to understand why she's a broken mess of emotions.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: When she was a little child, she and her mother were left with almost nothing when the Cube Miracle rose that led to the destruction of their home and killed Farrah's father, forcing them to live in a refugee camp with scarce resources for food. One night, a mysterious business man came to Daphne and offered to take Farrah to an orphanage to look after her, not knowing that the "orphanage" was really a research facility where scientists performed many gruesome experiments on her to grant her a second Esper power on top of the one she already had. For years, the unexpectedly end result was Aminah, who plotted to escape the facility with Farrah and did so during the Hazlitt incident, slaughtering everyone on their way out. During their escape, they were found by Esper Union officials and mistook them for pursuers, nearly killing them all until they were subdued and recruited under Luo Yan's Scavengers.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She stars in the Return, Dreaming story event, which involves Farrah being comatose due to some painful memories of her past.
  • The Dividual: Syndividual type. She can't use her Esper powers unless she hands over duties to Aminah, who needs Farrah to stay asleep so she can act on her own.
  • The Dreaded: Not Farrah, but her colleagues just don't want to deal with Aminah, who's violently overprotective of Farrah.
  • The Eeyore: She's perpetually depressed and always contemplates just disappearing, thinking that it's what people want her to do.
  • Escaped from the Lab: With Aminah's help, she escaped the facility she was being held at when Hazlitt was being ravaged by the Miracle.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Farrah's animations show that she and Aminah fight in tandem, rather than one of them fighting while the other sleeps. Because of this, all of her abilities hit enemies twice.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Aminah's existence. The scientists who attempted to give Farrah a second Esper power somehow ended up creating Aminah by sheer accident, much to their horror. She then proceeded to hatch an escape plan with Farrah, leading to the slaughter of all the scientists.
  • Institutional Apparel: Farrah's outfit heavily resembles a straitjacket.
  • Making a Splash: Her powers are derived from both Abzu and Tiamat, who were known as a godly couple of Mesopotamian mythology that could control the sea and groundwater. Aminah in particular looks like she's made of water entirely.
  • Multiple Endings: In Return, Dreaming:
    • Bittersweet Ending: Farrah makes amends with her mother Daphne, who bakes Farrah a cake to celebrate her birthday with the rest of the Esper Union. However, that night, Farrah dreams of the event when her mother handed her over to a representative of the facility she was sent to where she suffered many gruesome experiments for years.
    • Downer Ending: Once Tevor finds out why Daphne acted strange when she was told about the orphanage, the Awful Truth about Farrah ending at the "orphanage" is revealed within her memories. Ashamed that her mother has no right to come back to her life for how much Farrah suffered for her decisions, Farrah decides to never see her mother again, denying her a second chance to amend things with her. At the very least, Farrah realizes that she can always depend on Aminah to look after her. This is the ending that sticks.
  • Promoted to Playable: She appeared in Sea and Song before properly taking center stage and becoming playable in Return, Dreaming.
  • Red Herring: As other Espers have manifested entities that are also their Esper powers, Aminah stands out the most because she really is a separate living being with her own Esper power tied to Farrah's, mentally and physically.
  • Shrinking Violet: Suffers from self-esteem issues that hinder her from talking to anyone, though a little praise helps her perk up.
  • Split Personality: Has another personality sharing her body named Aminah who is less shy than Farrah is.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Perhaps the only example from the entire Esper Union roster. Though Farrah has zero drive to be evil, Aminah is a malevolent Ax-Crazy side whose least evil aspect is pranking others. It wouldn't be weird to see both of them as part of the Shadow Decree.
  • Tough Love: Aminah is not a fan of being nice towards Farrah that she likes being The Bully to her because that actually gets Farrah to do something rather than being nice and caring to her.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: According to her, the algae in her body is slowly killing her, though there isn't concrete proof about it. Either way, it makes her write a will every day because Aminah keeps tearing every will Farrah writes when she takes control.

    Archibald (Mictlantecutli)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/archibald_1.png
"Hey, everyone! Welcome to the Archibald show!"

Voiced By: Carrie Drovdlic (English), Amane Shindo (Japanese), Gang Eun-ae (Korean)
Attribute: Wind
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Fighter

A guitar-loving ghost boy who has been wandering an amusement park for the last decade, waiting for someone to hear him play. He is a Fighter Esper who benefits from enemy basic attacks and Mavis' assistance.

  • Archibald has both a buff and a debuff up his sleeves. They are...
    • Carnival Heat, a buff effective in subsequent rounds of combat. If Mavis is in the party, all allies receive an AP boost every time he hits a certain amount of stacks. This ability stacks up to 50 times.
    • One Swing, his debuff. The carrier's basic ability damage is increased, but they're locked into only using their basic ability. At the end of the carrier's turn, all enemies receive True Damage.
  • Silent Spirit attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Archibald's ATK. Each hit has a chance of inflicting Silence.
  • Enchanting Drop attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on a mix of Archibald's ATK and the target's Max HP; the damage based on the latter stat cannot exceed a certain amount of Archibald's ATK. Each hit has a chance to inflict Buff Blocker.
  • Carnival Sonata attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on a mix of Archibald's ATK and the target's Max HP; the damage based on the latter stat cannot exceed a certain amount of Archibald's ATK. Each hit has a chance to dispell one buff from each enemy, and each non-boss target receives One Swing. Buffs on enemies with One Swing can't last more than one turn. Archibald gains a stack of Carnival Heat every time an enemy casts a basic ability, with each stack increasing his damage. If Mavis is in the party and takes ability damage, Archibald shares a portion of it. When ascended, if Mavis is in the party, Archibald's C. RATE increases and he gains AP when landing a critical hit once per turn.

  • Back from the Dead: After Mavis helps him with his wish to have a real audience (Mavis, David, and Mona) rather than Miramon that couldn't see him, rather than going to the afterlife, he miraculously is reborn as an Esper.
  • Badass Spaniard: Outfitted with Mexican motifs and Esper powers from the god of death while he's just still a kid (at least in appearance), he qualifies.
  • Calacas: His entire motif and Esper powers are derived from the Aztec god Mictalntecutli; known as the god of death and rulet of Mitlan, and the husband of Mictecacihuatl. His skull-like appearance references Dias de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexican culture.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Though he borrows his powers from the dead, he'd rather use them to have fun with lonely children.
  • A Day in the Limelight: He debuts in the Bemusement Park story event.
  • Dramatic Irony: The same day he was about to perform for the first time was also the day he couldn't do it when he got trampled to death by panicked people fleeing a collapsing stage.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Not only does he get to have a real audience before passing on, but he is miraculously revived through becoming an Esper.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: He had already met Mavis since 8 years ago when she became lost at the amusement park near Hazlitt. By then, he was already a ghost and Mavis could see him since she was starting to develop her powers as an Esper before her transformation.
  • Friendly Ghost: Though he died in an accident, he became a ghost looking out for other people.
  • And I Must Scream: He's been secluded to the fallen amusement park for 10 years, with his music the only thing that other people (and mostly Miramon) could hear from him. Part of him was so desperate of his solitude that he didn't mind thinking that the Miramon he lured to him was an audience wanting to listen to his music, since they couldn't see him to attack him.
  • Last Request: As a ghost, he always wanted to have a real audience, which is something Mavis does for him (since it's her personal job to do it for ghosts). This becomes entirely defied when doing his last request makes him be reborn as a living Esper.
  • Older Than They Look: He was just 9 before he died, remaining as a spirit for 10 years, making him technically 19 years old. His miraculous revival still has him in his 9-year old body, and if he's anything like Mavis, he can't age visibly past 9 either.
  • Posthumous Character: He's been dead over 10 years caused by being trampled to death when people ran away in a panic when the stage he was set to play his first music performance collapsed, though he's remained as a ghost boy ever since until Mavis fulfilled his wish of having an audience and helped him be reborn as an Esper back in the world of the living.
  • Shout-Out: Look closely. He's standing on a DanceDanceRevolution dancing floor. Even his abilities take heavy cues from dance arrows.

    Sally (Sif)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sally_sif.png
"Oh! Time for some French horn practice."

Voiced By: Amanda Goodman (English), Fairouz Ai (Japanese), Jung Yu-jung (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Support

A talented Med-Team Ops Chief French horn player and self-proclaimed historian who relies on music to record the people, places, and events she encounters. She is a support Esper who can use her unique Sweet Harvest buff to reduce incoming damage to all allies.

  • Light Call attacks an enemy three times, each hit dealing damage based on Sally’s ATK. It also has a chance to grant Sally Immunity.
  • Universal dispels all debuffs from the party and evens out each ally’s HP, granting everyone ATK Up and Recovery in the process.
  • Ode to Joy has Sally enter the Sweet Harvest state. In this state, Sally can’t act or attack, but she can dispel a debuff from an ally and heal them at the start of their turn. When ascended, this ability also has all allies take less damage while the Sweet Harvest state is active.

  • Anti-Debuff: Universal dispels debuffs from the whole party while evening out their HP, while Ode to Joy's Sweet Harvest buff dispels a debuff from every ally at the start of their turn as well as healing them, with the trade off being that Sally herself can't do anything for two turns.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She’s visibly one of the chubbier female Espers, and she’s also a very gorgeous one too.
  • Birds of a Feather: She share many similarities with fellow Esper Union member Eira, who also lost her parents and is musically adept.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: The city where she lived was devastated, and she lost her whole family and the orphanage where she lived. Despite how this was very devastating to her, it taught her to record everything in songs to be able to move forward in life rather than fall to despair.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Thematically, her main element, as only one of her skills alludes to it (Sweet Harvest), which ties her powers to the Norse goddess Sif known for her association with earth.
  • Doomed Hometown: Her hometown Geran was destroyed, alongside her family and her life at the orphanage.
  • Long Hair Is Feminine: She has three very long braids that reach well past her back. In fact, it's this what makes her resemble the Norse goddess Sif, who was also known for her long golden hair.
  • Magic Music: Plays her french horn to heal and buff the party.
  • Mighty Glacier: Her main role in battle is to reduce all damage taken by -25% for all allies while also healing them on their turns with Sweet Harvest. She also has high defensive stats herself.
  • True Companions: With Eira, due to their many similarities.

    Donar (Thor)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/donar_sprite_new.png
"If you got a problem, speak up!"

Voiced By: Mar Andersons (English), Show Hayami (Japanese), Hong Seung-hyo (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Defender

A boisterous warrior who slowly came to be a dependable commander in the Union. He is a defender Esper who can increase his defense to deal more damage.

  • Upward Lightning deals damage to an enemy equal to a percentage of Donar’s ATK plus a larger percentage of his DEF. Also has a chance of inflicting ATK Down.
  • Thundercrack is a passive ability. At the end of his turn, Donar will enter Conductor Mode, and then attack all enemies dealing damage based on his DEF at the start of his next turn. If Donar is attacked while in Conductor Mode, he gains a stack of Thunder Blessing, which increases his DEF whenever he’s hit. This ability's cooldown cannot be manipulated. Being immobilized removes Conductor Mode. When ascended, Donar will temporarily absorb the DEF of his teammates before attacking in Conductor Mode.
  • Explosions in the Sky deals damage to an enemy equal to a percentage of Donar’s ATK plus a larger percentage of his DEF. It also grants Donar DEF UP and Immunity.

  • The Alcoholic: Ironically, though he keeps a strict fitness diet, he makes a pass for alcohol, as "a warrior is only as strong as the liquor he or she drinks, and only the strongest liquor is suitable for the bravest of souls."
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Formerly one before Raven molded him up to be better among his colleagues.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Gabrielle, who's another gym junkie who underwent a similar Character Development like Donar did. Predictably, they're both gym friends. Can cross into Distaff Counterpart territory. They even have an extremely similar menu animation (jumping, slamming their fist down, and retrieving their weapon).
  • Character Development: He used to be so brash and reckless during his earliest days working for the Union, until Raven went through hell trying to mold him up into a better person that he managed to become a dependable commander.
  • Clothing Damage: His pants are totally shredded, showing off his muscular (and glowing) legs.
  • Gentle Giant: He is large and very bombastic, but he is a nice person at heart.
  • Glowing Eyes: His eyes always seem to glow due to his Esper powers.
  • Manly Facial Hair: His big beard matches his muscular physique and boisterous personality.
  • Meaningful Name: “Donar” is an Old High German name for the Germanic equivalent of Thor, and is rather on the nose for the Esper of the same god.
  • Mighty Glacier: His battle style revolves around enduring damage as many times as he can to stack up Thunder Blessing before releasing it all out through Explosions in the Sky and Conductor (the latter which empties out the blessings).
  • Shock and Awe: His main element.
  • Thunder Hammer: Wields one of these into battle, which was the Norse god Thor's preferred weapon.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: Of the Very Blue variety. His lightning attacks are all light blue, as well as his hands and legs.

    Tiye (Nut)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tiye_nut.png
"I must be the center of the universe."
Princess of the Abyss

Voiced By: Sam Slade (English), Rie Kugimiya (Japanese), Yeo Min-jeong (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Controller

A strange girl who believes herself to be the center of the universe. Her room will forever remain a mess. She is a controller Esper who can accelerate her allies' AP by stealing her enemies' AP.

  • Nightbringer deals damage to an enemy based on Tiye's ATK and absorbs some of their AP.
  • Starstruck deals damage to all enemies based on Tiye's ATK. She also inflicts Stun, and absorbs some AP from any enemy whose SPD is lower than hers. When ascended, this ability also inflicts SPD Down on all targets.
  • Devouring Void takes the AP of the non-boss enemy with the highest AP% and the AP of the ally with the lowest AP% and swaps them if the former is higher than the latter. This is not regarded as an AP boost or reduction. Then, she attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on her ATK and dispelling one buff from each enemy, then absorbs some AP from all of them to share equally among her allies.

  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: As crazy as she may seem, she's a star Esper student at the Union Academy. Unfortunately, because of her eccentric behavior, Academy officials don't want her around public events and keep her presence hidden from advertisements or promotional videos.
  • Character Development: Defied. After publishing two fantasy novellas, the second one seemed to be easier to understand to others because there were hints of reality slipping through her distorted eternal daydream, but she hopes to stay in her fantasy forever despite thinking secretly to return to the real world.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Her honest to god belief that she's the center of the universe, which leaves so many people puzzled and weirded out.
  • Cosmic Entity: Deluded herself into being one, though her powers are based on the Egyptian goddess Nut, who was known as the goddess of the sky and heavens.
  • Escapism: Watching her parents die one by one left an extreme emotional scar in her that triggered her eventual withdrawal from reality and made herself believe a made-up fantasy that her dead parents were intergalactic warriors who had passed their final test and had been escorted away to the center of the universe by the "Emmissaries of the Miracles." From this moment on, Tiye became extremely delusional to reality.
  • Fragile Speedster: Though frail, her captain ability increases her allies' SPD by 25%. Needless to say, don't be so surprised when higher ranked players in Point War happen to have her.
  • Heroic BSoD: During her childhood, she witnessed her father being crushed to death by Miramon, and then she saw her mother die in front of her at the hospital. This triggered her Sanity Slippage into what she is today.
  • Making a Spectacle of Yourself: She wears glasses with two different star designs on them. If you actually look closely through them, they seem to be useless for sight aid...because she always has her eyes closed.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Tiye comes from Queen Tiye, the wife of Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep III.
  • True Companions: With Kaylee, the only person who can connect with her and acts as her interpreter to perplexed people listening to Tiye's strange cosmic ramblings.

    Gaius (Zeus)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gaius_sprite.png
"These medals show what I've got, and what I can do."

Voiced By: Adam Riley (English), Takeo Ōtsuka (Japanese), Seok Seung-hoon (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Fighter

One of the founders of the Esper Union and member of the Original Esper Seven who were the first people to gain Esper powers in Grandis, a living legend devoted to stopping the threats the Miracles bring. He's a unique Esper who can switch between his normal mode and a God King mode, which changes how his abilities work.

  • Thunderstrike deals damage to an enemy based on Gaius' ATK. It also extends the duration of all the target's debuffs, as well as stunning them. In God King mode, it deals damage to all enemies based on his ATK, and has a chance of stealing enemy buffs.
  • Thunder Judgement summons lightning to attack multiple random enemies, dealing damage based on Gaius' ATK. It priortizes hitting different targets, and deals decreasing damage if it hits the same target more than once. In God King Mode, it does the same thing with more damage. When ascended, the ability inflicts Buff Blocker in both forms, while dispelling all enemy buffs in his normal mode.
  • Thunderstorm switches his current mode to his other one and gives him an extra turn. In normal mode, he gains a shield based on his ATK, extends the duration of his buffs, and resets the cooldown on Thunder Judgement. In God King Mode, he gives all his allies a shield based on his ATK, extends the duration of his own buffs, resets Thunder Judgement's cooldown and reduces Thunderstorm's cooldown too.
  • He also has an unnamed passive ability. In God King Mode, he gains an increased C. RATE and deals bonus damage based on his target's Max HP. In normal mode, he instead gains increased ACC and can inflict Sear upon attacking.

  • Action Genre Hero Guy: Embodies a majority of the requirements for it.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stars in the Static Shock event.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Tremendously powerful, there is a reason he is a leader within the Union he helped to found. Other lesser heroic Espers see him as an idol.
  • Awesome by Analysis: He's able to accurately think and arrive at a conclusion of what exactly happened at a given location he's investigating in a few minutes.
  • Becoming the Mask: He discarded his amicable persona because the Gaius with the medals is the one people want to see when they need someone to save them.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Sienna, who used her powers of nature to restore the environment just as how Gaius used his powers to restore electricity at her greenhouse.
  • Chest of Medals: He has six large medals attached to his belt, all of which he's earned for his feats as an Esper and as part of the Esper Union. When his coat comes off in God King Mode, even more medals are visible hanging from his belt. His profile lists them as his favourite things. On a more serious note, he explains to Pritzker that the medals help him look like a reliable Esper to the people who need his help, as the medals inspire hope for them, rather than the "amicable" Gaius without the medals.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Believes that his divine power is a gift of fate rather than an inescapable curse.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: He held Hannah in his arms and managed to show her the wedding ring he had gotten for her right before she died.
  • Electric Black Guy: Gaius is a black man with the thunder god Zeus as his divine benefactor, and thus has the ability to wield lightning.
  • Glass Cannon: His Thunder Judgment ability can potentially be a Total Party Kill when injected with too much Attack, and can be incredibly deadly on less targets despite the reduced damage output on a same target. Gaius himself is not durable, though, and can fall pretty quickly. As a random enemy, he has high Attack output, but his Defense is very low.
  • Humble Hero: Although he is legendary among Espers, he doesn't like taking enough presence outside of work but rather prefers to stay at the backside to continue his Miracle research in peace while leaving the rest to his subordinates.
  • The Leader: Alongside others, he is one of the Original Esper Seven who founded the Union. It's said that the lightning bolt in the Union's emblem symbolizes him.
  • The Lost Lenore: Lost his fiancée Hannah to a sudden Miracle attack at Estero Harbor. As a result, he rarely smiles and turns his sorrow and grief over his lost into determination to protect humanity.
  • Marked Change: When using his powers, he gains bright blue markings on his hands. They extend to his entire body and face when in God King Mode.
  • Memento MacGuffin: A wedding ring, symbolizing his love for Hannah.
  • Misery Builds Character: It's through the sorrow and anguish of losing his beloved fiancée that he molded them into his unbreakable resolve.
  • Obsessively Organized: In regards to his hair. The man goes to Chloe's Fashion Studio every three days just for a buzz cut whenever his hair gets 1mm taller because it's an old habit of his as a military man. When Chloe finally convinces him to come back at least every two or three weeks, his diary entry reveals that he still came back 3 days later during a rainy day.
  • The Perfectionist: He strives for perfection in all things, all down to the exact measurements he wants for his haircuts, which drive his barber Chloe crazy.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Upon losing Hannah, he was unable to smile as much anymore. He does smile a bit from time to time, though.
  • Power Floats: Once he triggers his God King Mode, he gains the ability of flight and is seen floating in battle.
  • Prophet Eyes: Zig-zagged. His eyes are normally about the same lavender color as his hair, but they turn blank white when he’s using his powers.
  • The Reliable One: As a leader, he is this, but also due to his endless power of electricity, he's considered a living portable power bank for others.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Went absolutely berserk and singlehandedly took out a Miracle and a bunch of Miramon right after the Miracle shot his fiancée Hannah in the chest.
  • Scary Black Man: Exudes this air around him, but Chloe describes him as such a scary person that he keeps scaring young ladies coming to her studio when he comes for a simple buzz cut every 3 days.
  • Shock and Awe: His main attribute, as the Esper of Zeus. Thus, he's surrounded by electricity and his abilities are lightning based.
  • Super Mode: His God King Mode allows him to gain an extra turn, altering the properties of his attacks to become deadlier for certain situations.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: Sometimes, whenever using Thunderstorm, his animation will play and trigger his exclusive power up theme while he's in God Mode.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Or rather the client that wouldn't leave Chloe's Fashion Studio every three days. If she sees him coming, she has to personally tell him that her shop is closed no matter the time just to turn him away before he reaches the front entrance or else he scares clientele and people watching indirectly spread rumors that Chloe can only do buzz cuts, much to her frustration.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Although he was already an Esper, watching Hannah getting killed right before him caused his real powers to manifest.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Once triggering his God King Mode, he loses his coat and shirt. Yes, he's ripped.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: He has yellow lightning bolt decals on his outfit, but his actual lightning powers are a very light blue.

    Leora (Athena)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leora.png
"Don't worry. I'll return with a victory."

Voiced By: Arianna Ratner (Adult), Jamie Sara Lewis (Child) (English), Saori Onishi (Japanese), Kim Ga-Ryung (Korean)
Attribute: Flow
Role: Fighter

A meticulous and steel-hearted fighter whose sense of justice is often tested, formerly from the Esper Union before joining the Shadow Decree before defecting back to the Esper Union. She and Elaine grew up in the same orphanage and defined themselves as sisters until their eventual separation, though they still have lingering feelings of sisterhood. She is a fighter Esper who can utilize her unique War Goddess buff and extend it if Elaine is in the same team, or Dawnglow if Elaine is a foe.

  • Leora has two unique, undispellable buffs. They are...
    • War Goddess, which amplifies her damage if her C. RATE is greater than or equal to her targets. The greater the gap, the higher the damage. Additionally, if an ally is about to take a critical hit, Leora grants them a shield.
    • Dawnglow, which increases her C. DMG and ensures that her attacks against Elaine won't miss.
  • Forward Strike deals damage to an enemy based on Leora's ATK, while also inflicting Sear. At the start of combat, all of Leora's ability cooldowns will be reset.
  • Dawn Guardian grants Standoff to all allies, with allies below a certain percentage of their HP getting it for an extra turn. She then deals damage to an enemy based on her ATK. Bfore using this ability, Leora gains the War Goddess buff, and if she already has it, its duration is increased. When ascended, this attack does more damage for each ally that's still on the field (Leora excluded).
  • Daylight Beam gives Leora Invincibility and ATK Up, then dispells all buffs on a selected enemy before inflicting C. RATE Down and attacking them (damage based on ATK). Then, Leora inflicts C. RATE Down on all enemies and attacks them too. Before casting this ability, Leora gains the War Goddess buff. If Elaine is on her team and has the Night Goddess buff, War Goddess is gained for an extra turn. If Leora already has War Goddess, its duration is extended. At the start of combat, Leora gains Dawnglow if Elaine is on the enemy team.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: She used to be looked down by her Union peers when she defected back to the team, though she managed to regain their trust because she does care about them.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Starts in the Dusk & Dawn event as she seeks missing Divine Wave devices at Tabaton.
  • Deal with the Devil: She provides Anesidora with the lab data from the underground lab under Tabaton to ensure that Anesidora will look after the townspeople, despite the fact Anesidora is ruthless in her research and will use them as guinea pigs in the end.
  • Determinator:
    • In story terms, she can fend off multiple Miramon attacks by herself.
    • In gameplay terms, her Dawn Guardian can grant her allies Standoff, and perhaps for an extra turn when their HP is low.
  • Dramatic Irony: She's modeled after Athena, the Greek goddess known for her practical reason. In the Dusk & Dawn event, she's put through the ringer trying to choose the best decision of two from a very Sadistic Choice that will make her carry a heavy burden: either all of Tabaton and Cory die because the Divine Wave Transmitter supporting them goes offline, or they continue living with the big possibility of becoming crazed Esper monsters if they don't take illegal Esper serum.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Unlike the usual norm, she's the only Esper who's capable of landing all her hits on an Esper with the resistant element in case Elaine - a Wind Esper to her Flow element - is a foe, which triggers Leora's Dawnglow buff, which can't be dispelled either.
  • Face–Heel Revolving Door: She started off as an Esper Union member before following on Embla's footsteps and dejecting to the Shadow Decree, but then her time there made her question the organization's shady tactics and lack of safety for innocent lives that ended with her and Elaine getting into a fight. She was then saved by the Union and became a Union Ops Chief for good.
  • Family of Choice: Although she and Elaine aren’t blood relatives, they still consider each other sisters.
  • Foil: Towards Elaine. Thematically, Leora is a force of good with bright colors, while Elaine is a force of evil in dark colors. However, they both have common ground in judging both justice and evil, which then make them differ about what's right or wrong.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Her eventual rejoining to the Esper Union didn't stop the news from reporting the fact she was a Shadow Decree member, which caused the populace to label her as a villain bidding her time to strike. Luckily for her, her teammates adore her, and sometimes, other news outlets like to have her on the front pages for her heroism (much to David's chagrin).
  • Otaku: She loves reading shojo manga, especially the romances between heroes and heroines confessing their love.
  • Sadistic Choice: She is given the option to turn off the Divine Wave Transmitter at Tabaton so that the citizens don't slowly become into wild monsters, but that would also mean they'd die alongside Cory. If it's left on, the citizens and Cory will live but will eventually succumb to their diseases. Though she chooses to turn it off, the generator is rebooted 17 seconds later, "saving" everyone in Tabaton but resigning them all to their fates. Furthermore, Leora takes an ever riskier decision by giving Anesidora a copy of the data from the destroyed lab with the hopes that Anesidora will keep the citizens safe despite her underhanded experiments.
  • Sibling Team: Similarly to the Xie brothers, if Elaine with Night Goddess is in her team, her War Goddess buff gets extended by an extra turn. However, this can get subverted if Elaine is a foe, in which case Leora gains Dawnglow, making her attacks unable to miss on Elaine.
  • Sweet Tooth: Loves baking cakes in her room as one of her favorite pasttimes.
  • Taking the Bullet: She throws herself in the way of a Miramon attack meant to strike Li Ling, saving him. This causes him to see her in a new light as a trustworthy ally (that won't rat him out to his superiors for oversleeping).
  • Trademark Favorite Food: One of her favorite pasttimes is sipping black tea.

    Li Ling (Nezha)

"If you've got something to say, you better have the power to back it up."
Rowdy Boy

Voiced By: Eddy Yeung (Adult), Brianna Wanlass (Young) (English), Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Japanese), Jeong Jae-heon (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Fighter

A confident young man harnessing the power of Nezha, arming himself with 4 extra arms and a spear. He believes that only the strong have the power to change the world, and works hard to become the strongest. Despite being a valued part of the Esper Union, he doesn't think much of rules and regulations, and frequently causes trouble for his colleagues and superiors.

  • Lanceburner attacks one enemy and deals damage based on Li Ling's ATK. May also inflict Sear for 2 turns.
  • Tai Chi attacks one enemy five times and deals five instances of damage based on Li Ling's ATK. He has a chance to inflict DEF Down, and upon landing a Crit, his AP increases. When ascended, this skill also heals Li Ling for a portion of the damage dealt.
  • Altar attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Li Ling's ATK, as well as True Damage based on the individual enemy's Max HP (up to a certain percentage of Li Ling's ATK). The final hit also steals some of the enemy's AP.

  • Artificial Limbs Are Stronger: The power of Nezha grants him four massive, additional arms floating behind his back. He can control these arms at will and uses them to assault enemies relentlessly with fists and spear.
  • Artwork and Game Graphics Segregation: Does he have visible nipples or not?
  • Blessed with Suck: After Brynn tried to ask him for help in how to properly lie down on her bed with the wings on her back getting in the way, Li Ling became so distraught trying to come up with a solution for her that her asking him about it indirectly caused him problems trying to sleep with his four floating arms giving him issues.
  • Child Prodigy: He became an Esper since he was a little kid, which gave him a rebellious streak and beat up older people all the time. Then he has an easy defeat at non-Esper Yun Chuan's hands, which ended his "prodigious" status.
  • Comically Missing the Point: He used to think Leora was untrustworthy because she used to be a Shadow Decree member for years. but he comes to learn that she really means being a member of the Union...because loyal friends who don't rat out their other friends (Li Ling) from oversleeping before a mission are rare and precious.
    Tang Xuan: ...
  • Crutch Character: Has turned into this since his nerf in update 3.1.5. He used to be a staple character on most player's teams before, even at high-level play. After the update, he tends to be more used by beginners, helped by the fact that he is one of the two guaranteed drops when players pull their first Legendary tier Esper.
  • Deuteragonist: Alongside Tang Xuan, in the Truth Unveiled event, as Li Ling is searching for his lost master Yun Chuan.
  • Hot-Blooded: Gets riled up easily, especially when provoked or when he is convinced of an injustice dealt to those close to him.
  • Irony: Though his appearance is anything but friendly, children find him fun to be with (i.e. climb onto). Said children abhor his master Yun Chuan because he looks more villainous due to his scars.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Upon hitting young adulthood, the sclera of his eyes became all black while his pupils became red, giving him the impression of a demon. Notably, he had normal eyes when he was a little kid with his Esper powers.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: Used his powers to boss around others and similar selfish reasons after awaking to them, up until meeting Yun Chuan, who taught him better. Still, he regularly goes behind the backs of his Esper Union superiors to follow up on leads, and is willing to bend the rules in his pursuit.
  • Starter Mon: He or Tang Xuan can be a starting player's first guaranteed Legendary Esper from their first Echo session.
  • Series Mascot: Next to Drew, he was featured the most among early trailers and advertising, to the point where people tend to recognize him more than the former.
  • Those Two Guys: He's almost always seen hanging out with Tang Xuan, who also happens to be the other random choice for a starting player's first guaranteed Legendary Esper.
  • Unaffected by Spice: He has an incredibly high tolerance for extremely spicy condiments that anyone trying to eat from his food will end up sick for a day. He even plasters ice pops with his Tangton spicy sauce while boasting that it's meant to cool you down.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Yun Chuan, his old mentor.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Prominently displays his bare torso, showing off his impressive musculature. Even his alternative skin has him wear an open leather jacket with no shirt.

"To battle! What could be better?"
Cold Flames

Voiced By: Andy Lambrianidis (English), Kazuya Nakai (Japanese), Choi Nak-yoon (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Fighter

A hot-headed, flame-wielding Ops Chief who prefers to let his fists do the talking. Brother to Bonnie. He is a Fighter Esper who is able to give himself a variety of buffs when landing Critical Hits.

  • Iron Fists deals damage to an enemy based on Lewis’ ATK. Lewis will heal himself for a percentage of the damage dealt, and his AP increases when landing a Critical Hit. Each point of SPD deals extra damage.
  • Flames of Fury gives Lewis C. RATE Up, and then deals damage to an enemy based on his ATK. This attack inflicts Sear, and he gains a turn if he lands a Critical Hit. Each point of SPD deals extra damage.
  • Rage Avatar attacks an enemy 3 times, dealing damage based on Lewis’ ATK. For every certain percentage of Max HP that the target loses, the damage increases. Each point of SPD deals extra damage. When ascended, Lewis gains Invicibility after attacking, and if he gets a kill with this ability, his cooldowns decrease by one turn.

  • Chained by Fashion: He wears a pair of chains across his torso in lieu of a shirt, as well as around his arms. The latter ones seem to be attached to his gauntlets.
  • Elemental Punch: Fire.
  • Flaming Hair: Unlike Lucas, he plays the trope straight, as his hair is actually on fire.
  • Friend to All Children: Ever since he and his sister wound up on the streets after tragedy struck their family, Lewis has been taking orphans and street kids under his wing. He strives to bring them a better life not just because he cares about them, but because he believes it will bring his sister back to his side.
  • The Illegible: His biggest secret is that his handwriting is abysmal, and he practices it in secret every chance he gets.
  • Meaningful Name: “Lewis” means renowned warrior, which goes well with the Esper of a war god.
  • My Greatest Failure: Being unable to protect everyone with his Esper Powers after winding up on the streets, as well as the subsequent departure of his sister Bonnie.
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: He wears nothing on his torso under his calf-length jacket except a pair of chains.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: He doesn’t actually care if the Union or the Shadow Decree is the “right side”. He just goes with whatever option lets him get stronger and helps him bring his ideal world into reality, which happens to be the Union.
  • Playing with Fire: All of his abilities involve the use of his flaming fists. Fittingly enough, he’s an Inferno Esper.
  • Technicolor Fire: His Cold Flames skin is themed around blue fire rather than red.

    Lucas (Apollo)

"If you think my bass is just for music, you're dead wrong!"

Voiced By: Daniel Amerman (English), Tomokazu Seki (Japanese), Shim Gyu-hyeok (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Controller

A very cheerful bassist who loses himself whenever he's off playing music. He is a controller Esper who can slow down foes' turn order by reducing their AP.

  • Lightpulse attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Lucas' ATK. Each hit steals a percentage of the target's AP.
  • The Blessing of Phobos deals damage to all enemies based on Lucas' ATK, with a chance to inflict Stun. When ascended, each stunned enemy will increase Lucas' AP by a certain percentage.
  • Pillar of Light attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Lucas' ATK and reducing the targets' AP. Each hit has a chance of dispelling one buff from each enemy and further reducing their AP if successful.

  • Aloof Archer: Inverted, as he's notably one of the few archer characters to not have this kind of personality. The large sun symbol behind his back can turn into a large bow for him to use. Alongside the fact Lucas is into music and likes to shine as bright as the sun, the Greek god Apollo was also known for his archery.
  • Cool Shades: Large, pink, triangular ones, befitting of a flashy musician.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Twice:
    • First, he lost his father to Miramon, which led to his mother becoming perpetually depressed until after many trials and errors led him to bringing her a smile through playing music for her.
    • Only then he went through another event when his mother and her friends were murdered by Miramon on their way to her birthday concert he was holding for her. He was devastated, but he pushed through and held her concert in her memory.
  • Flaming Hair: Not actually on fire, but his hairstyle is likely meant to evoke the image of flames, given how his skin is bright orange and he's associated with the sun god Apollo.
  • Kick the Dog: After he succeeded in bringing a smile to his depressed mother, she and her friends were murdered by Miramon on their way to seeing Lucas holding a concert during her birthday.
  • Morph Weapon: The large sun behind him can turn into both a bow and a bass guitar.
  • The Power of Love: Seeing his mother smile after a long period of depression upon losing her husband was what triggered Lucas's Esper transformation.
  • The Pollyanna: Hoo boy. He is overly cheerful as a way to inspire people with his bright optimism after being devastated by the death of his mother.
  • Those Two Guys: With David, often getting on Q's nerves.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He's perpetually shirtless under his jacket.

    Clara (Hera)

Red Blooms

Attribute: Inferno
Role: Support

Empowered by Hera, the queen of heaven, she will free the people from their suffering. She is an efficient healing Esper who grants team-wide AP buffs, immunity, and shield.

  • Clara's Passive is called Queen's Protection, which Removes debuffs when granting Healing to any ally or grants the CC Immunity buff for 1 turn if the target has no debuffs. Once fully ascended it will convert excess healing into a shield.
  • Queen's Blessing deals damage to an enemy based on Clara's ATK. It also Heals 2 allies with the lowest HP for a percent of their max HP.
  • Hymn of Life Clara summons a field that amplifies the entire team's AP and recovers their a percent of her allies' maximum HP.

  • Animal Motifs: The Peacock, naturally, due to its association with Hera.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: One of the best doctors of the Union and best healer unit within Dislyte.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: She wears a custom tailored suit, and her position as the Union’s head medic makes her a badass in her own right.
  • Birds of a Feather: With Gaius for her backstory, as they both have lost their lover and grew from that loss.
  • Hat of Authority: Wears a large black hat with colorful detail underneath, and is the Union’s head medic.
  • Hidden Depths: Although not known outwardly, she was a very talented Jazz Dancer, but after witnessing the suffering of people, she put that aside and entered the Esper Union as member of the medical department.
  • The Leader: Promoted into this position throughout her work within the Esper Union, and is one of the its medical professionals.
  • The Lost Lenore: Lost her lover some time ago. This almost broke her entire being, but also gave her a good deal of motivation to start helping people.
  • The Medic: THE head honcho of the Esper Union.
  • Memento MacGuffin: A photo of her now deceased lover.
  • Misery Builds Character: She experienced death of a loved one, but then rose from it, getting better and helping others to do the same.
  • No Shirt, Long Jacket: She wears nothing under that jacket but a decadent necklace. Promo artwork prevents this by adding in a bralette.
  • The Perfectionist: Just like her lore, to many people, Clara is the personification of perfection.
  • Peacock Girl: She carries a manifested peacock around on her walking cane, and that peacock always channels her magic.
  • Sci-Fi Bob Haircut: She sports a bob haircut, and she is within the sci-fi landscape of the game.
  • Tough Leader Façade: She gives off a professional feel, often cold and strict, but below that mask is a woman who wanted to pursue her old lifelong dream of being a dancer.
  • Vapor Wear: Nothing under that jacket but a big decorative necklace.

    Elliot (Thoth)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elliot_sprite.png
"All the information in the archives...I've read them all."

Voiced By: Barney Cooper (English), Takuma Nagatsuka (Japanese), Hong Seung-hyo (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Controller

A quiet bookworm and director of the Union's Archives. He is a controller Esper capable of maximing single foes' ability cooldowns while drawing aggro.

  • Scholar Star deals damage to an enemy based on a mix of Elliot's ATK and max HP. It also has a chance to taunt the target.
  • Sharp Stratagem attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on a mix of Elliot's ATK and max HP. Each hit has a chance to taunt the enemy, and Elliot will also gain a shield with strength based on his max HP. This attack will not miss.
  • Pure Enlightenment attacks two enemies, dealing damage based on a mix of Elliot's ATK and Max HP. Both targets have all their buffs dispelled, and their ability cooldowns are extended to the maximum. The targets are also inflicted with Taunt, while Elliot gains CRIT RESIST. When ascended, the cooldown for this ability will decrease whenever Elliot is attacked (can only be triggered a certain amount of times per turn).

  • Animal Motifs: His paper cranes and hat are stylized to resemble African sacred ibis, of which the Egyptian god Thoth was represented.
  • Badass Bookworm: When the library was attacked by the Shadow Decree, he was forced to use his sharp wit to taunt and lure his enemies into a trap, learning of his own fighting potential. As his powers represent the Egyptian god of learning and writing Thoth, it suits him.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: Pure Enlightenment does this to whoever it targets, extending their cooldowns to the maximum. When ascended, Elliot can also do this with his own cooldown for the same ability, decreasing it whenever he's attacked.
  • Draw Aggro: His main gimmick is causing his enemies to hit him in order to reduce Pure Enlightment's cooldown. To aid him in this, his attacks can induce Taunt. This is also how he found his fighting potential when the Shadow Decree invaded the Archives.
  • Geeky Turn-On: The best way to get him to talk is by asking him about books, at which point he'd become a different person and go in great detail to explain obscure information to curios people.
  • Parental Neglect: His parents were never home and rarely accompanied Elliot in his youth, with only him remembering them leaving with suitcases.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: He keeps himself at the library because of his uninterest of socializing with other people and prefers to use written words for communication, though Ye Suhua is his closest and only friend. Though, after the incident with the Shadow Decree invading the Archives, he has started to greet and provide guidance to visitors (even if he might still shun eye contact).

    Ife (Meretseger)

Voiced By: Vii Zedek (English), Kanna Nakamura (Japanese), Kim Bo-na (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Role: Fighter

A shy girl in a cobra hoodie who has anxiety issues. She greatly admires superheroes in spy movies and wishes to become like them. She is a fighter Esper who can exploit poison status ailments to gain AP or pursuit the enemy.

  • Tail Whip deals damage to an enemy based on Ife's ATK and inflicts Poison. If the target is debuffed, she will follow up with a pursuit attack.
  • Gust attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Ife's ATK. It inflicts SPD Down and has a chance to stun.
  • Sludge Bomb attacks all enemies three times, dealing damage based on Ife's ATK. It inflicts Poison and ATK Down. When ascended, if an enemy is poisoned, Ife will steal some of their AP.

  • Animal Motifs: The cobra, based on the Egyptian goddess Meretseger.
  • Birds of a Feather: She's close friends with Bardon, who's also a huge movie fanatic.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She's mentioned in Dhalia's career entries before debuting properly (alongside Brewster).
  • The Heart: Surprisingly, she becomes this during battles, because she knows emergencies won't wait for anyone.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Worships her teacher Dhalia, seeing her as the protagonist of Ife's spy movies.
  • Living Clothes: Her cobra hoodie is alive and reacts to her own emotions.
  • Morality Pet: She's this to Dhalia, who reminds her of herself in Ife.
  • My Greatest Failure: She had once accidentally injured a teacher with her powers on an impulse. Even after Dhalia helped her emotionally, Ife still resents herself for her past mistakes.
  • Poisonous Person: Obviously, due to her snake powers, Ife can inflict poison on her enemies and exploit the ailment for extra effects.
  • Shrinking Violet: Due to her anxiety issues, she's very shy. Though she's been getting better at being more outspoken, seeing strangers can still make her tuck her head under her hat.
  • The Strategist: In the heat of battle, she's able to discern weaknesses and guide her companions when moral is low.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Since she likes watching action movies, she's grown fond of popcorn. It's to the point that her president status of the official Esper Union Action Movie Fan Club is popular due to all the kinds of popcorn flavors she makes.

    Mavis (Mictecacihuatl)

"Don't be scared. I'll show you the way home."

Voiced By: Madison Lee (English), Ruka Fukagawa (Japanese), Gang Eun-ae (Korean)
Attribute: Inferno
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Support

A psychic from the Esper Union who can communicate with lost souls. She is a Support Esper who has a mixed bag of abilites and buffs with both helpful and hurtful effects for her team.

  • Mavis has a grand total of four buffs at her disposal. They are...
    • Graveless, which prevents its carrier from taking action, being selected, takng damage, or being healed. It also lowers their SPD.
    • Carnival Heat, which is effective in subsequents rounds of combat and can stack up to 100 times. If Archibald is in the party, Mavis attacks all enemies for every 20 stacks of this buff she gets, dealing damage based on her ATK. This attack always does critical hit damage. Mavis will also heal herself for every 10 stacks she gets. When she reaches 100 stacks, the damage and healing increase dramatically.
    • Soul Parade, which increases the C. DMG and C. RESIST of the carrier while also preventing them from beng damaged or healed. If Mavis is alive when this buff wears off, it turns into Graveless, and if she isn't, the carrier's buff's are cleared and they take True Damage.
    • Holiday Rest, which increases the carrier's C. DMG while increasing their chance to take critical hits. This effect is removed if the carrier gains Graveless.
  • Spirit Strike deals damage to an enemy based on Mavis' ATK.
  • Undertaker is a passive ability. At the start of Mavis' turn, all allies gain C. RATE Up. When a teammate takes a fatal hit, Mavis gives them Graveless and prevents them from dying. When a teammate lands a critical hit, Mavis gains a stack of Carnival Heat, up to three per turn. Mavis is immune to the Standoff buff and cannot be revived. When she dies, any teammate with Graveless has it removed and replaced with Soul Parade.
  • All Souls Party deals damage to all enemies based on Mavis' ATK, and she inflicts Sear and SPD Down. Any teammate with Graveless has it removed and replaced with Soul Parade, and teammates without Graveless instead gain Holiday Rest. Mavis will also restore some of her HP for every 10 stacks of Carnival Heat she has. When ascended, the teammates who have their Graveless removed have their AP increased.

  • Body Horror: The bones of her arms and legs can be seen through her limbs.
  • Calacas: Her entire motif and Esper powers are derived from the Aztec goddess Mictecacihuatl; known as the goddess of death and consort of Mictlantecutli. Her skull-like appearance references Dias de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexican culture.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Just like Hilda, Mavis's mortician parents taught her not to fear death, as it should be seen as a cycle of life that should be cherished instead.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Though she borrows her powers from the dead, she'd rather use them to have fun with lonely children.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She debuts in the Bemusement Park story event.
  • Dramatic Irony: She was Conditioned to Accept Horror of death thanks to her mortician parents, but all came crashing down on her when she got separated from her parents by a Miracle, and later she and Feng Nuxi found their corpses, which shocked Mavis so much that she fell into a coma.
  • I See Dead People: Even before she became an Esper, she developed the skill to see spirits roaming the world due to unfulfilled wishes. Once she became an Esper, she made it her job to fulfill the wishes from spirits.
  • Just a Kid: Due to her Esper Transformation triggering when she was 9, she remained a kid in appearance, leading to adults often ignoring her due to her looks (essentially, a ghost).
  • Last Request: She assists any dead spirits still wandering the world with their last wishes so that they may find closure and pass on peacefully. One notable example was helping Archibald's wish to gain a real audience so he could move on, but instead he was reborn as an Esper for it.
  • Older Than She Looks: This petite little girl is 19 years old. However, she's remained that way since she awoke to her Esper Transformation when she was just 9 years old.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Seeing the corpses of her parents was such a shock to her that she fell into a coma, where she dreamed about spending time with her parents until a Miramon appeared, waking her up from the shock that caused her Transformation.

    Raven (Odin)

"I never regretted the loss of my eye."

Voiced By: Holly Lindin (English), Reina Ueda (Japanese), Yeo Min-jeong (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Fighter

One of the Seven Esper Heroes and head of the Union's Operations Department, Raven and her motorcycle are a symbol of hope across the world. She is a Fighter Esper who specializes in removing enemy buffs.

  • Eternal Comet attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Raven's ATK. Each hit has a chance to steal a buff from the target, and when successful, Raven inflicts Sear on the target. Each point of SPD makes this attack do extra damage.
  • Sunset is a passive ability. Raven does a pursuit attack whenever an enemy without buffs takes a hit. After a pursuit attack, she attacks all enemies twice, dealing damage based on her ATK. If an enemy is not buffed, these attacks do extra damage (based on ATK), and each point of her SPD deals extra damage too. Each hit reduces the enemy's Max HP capacity, and when an ally makes an enemy buff end early, Sunset's cooldown decreases.
  • Sleipnir sees Raven dispell all her debuffs and gain SPD Up. Then she dispells all enemy buffs before attacking all enemies, dealing damage based on her ATK, and extra damage based on each point of SPD. She also inflicts DEF Down. When ascended, the part where she dispells enemy buffs cannot be resisted if the target's SPD is lower than hers.

  • Cleavage Window: Her outfit sports a prominent one.
  • Cool Bike: She rides a motorcycle into battle. Based on her abilities, the bike is named Sleipnir, which comes from Odin's eight-legged horse.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She's dressed in all black with a menacing motorbike, but she's firmly on the side of good.
  • The Determinator: Raven's gone through a lot of hardship and had a childhood of poverty, but routinely retains her determination and believes that it can change anything. Case in point, she once fought a Miramon for 50 hours to protect the people and won.
  • Eyepatch of Power: She's one of the Seven Esper Heroes and wears an eyepatch over her missing eye.
  • Meaningful Name: "Raven" isn't just to make her sound even cooler than she already is, it's a reference to Huginn and Muninn, two ravens belonging to Odin that would fly around the world and report their findings to him.
  • Power Gives You Wings: She has three large black wings on her right side that float behind her.

    Feng Nuxi (Nuwa)

"How about we spend more time together, hm?"

Voiced By: Nola Klop (English), Kiyoka Suko (Japanese), Kim Ga-ryung (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Controller

One of the Original Seven who became the first Espers in Grandis. She is the Union Hub Director in charge of the Union's Logistics department and runs the orphanage of the Union. A doctor before the arrival of the Miracles, she dedicated herself to improving civilian lives and cares for everyone like a loving mother. She is a controller Esper who can bypass foes's status defenses and extend their cooldowns.

  • Her unique buff, Paper Talisman, is undispellable. When she takes a hit, she will consume one stack of it and gain AP. It can trigger once per turn, and she can have up to four stacks at once.
  • Shape Humanity deals damage to an enemy based on Feng Nuxi's Max HP and reduces enemy AP. Each stack of Paper Talisman makes her attack one more enemy, and she gains a stack of it at the end.
  • Sole Transmute lets her reset the ability cooldowns of any ally except herself, and all allies gain SPD Up. Each stack of Paper Talisman increases AP for all allies. This ability's cooldown cannot be affected by any other ability.
  • Summon Worldstone deals damage to all enemies based on her Max HP, hitting multiple times. Each hit dispels enemy buffs, and the last two hits extend enemy cooldowns. Then, Feng Nuxi gains four stacks of Paper Talisman. When ascended, each buff dispelled increases Feng Nuxi's AP.

  • The Ace: Invoked. The children at the orphanage were arguing with one another when they couldn't agree on either Gaius or Raven being the best Esper, but then they swiftly reconsidered and changed that to Feng Nuxi when they saw her scolding the two of them for not doing a good job fixing the electricity at the orphanage and forcing them to fix it.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Heng Yue share the same idea to find a way to De-Esper Espers because they both believe it brings difficulties (at least to Espers who find it troublesome to be Espers at all). Both of them suffered from becoming Espers.
  • Blessed with Suck: Feng Nuxi believes in the concept of “De-Esperification”, not just because the Miracles are dangerous, but because of the effects that an Esper transformation has on a person’s daily life. For instance, when Nuxi received her own powers, she found it difficult to accept her new appearance, and the kids in the orphanage she runs became scared of her.
  • The Dreaded: Her anger is the stuff of horrors that children know she screwed her teammates when they're down at the orphanage to do housework.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She was mentioned in Heng Yue's backstory as the person who recruited her into the Union long before she became playable properly.
  • Mama Bear: She's very doting and protective of the children at the orphanage that she can get downright nasty if she knows one of them will go and do research in a dangerous environment.
  • Meteor-Summoning Attack: Summon Worldstone has her dropping a giant meteor on the enemy party.
  • Paper Talisman: The name of her unique buff, but she also has physical ones that look like small people. One of them runs up to her and trips in her summoning animation.
  • Snake People: She has the lower body of a snake, just like the goddess Nuwa did.

"Don't worry about me. Let's just go."

Voiced By: Daniel Amerman (English), Fumiya Imai (Japanese), Yun Yong-sik (Korean)
Attribute: Shimmer
Role: Fighter

A serious member of the Scavengers who upholds justice over personal feelings. He is a fighter Esper who can counterattack more often than others and provide group-wide damage reduction.

  • Exonerating Strike deals damage to an enemy based on Everett's Max HP and has a chance to stun.
  • Valhalla Guardian attacks an enemy twice, dealing damage based on Everett's Max HP. It has a chance to inflict Miss Rate UP and heals Everett based on the damage dealt. When ascended, it reduces the chance of Everett getting hit by a critical hit. If he's hit by a normal attack, there's a chance he will counterattack with this ability, and if he's hit by a critical hit, the chance of couterattacking is increased.
  • Valkyrie's Glory attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Everett's Max HP, and has a chance to taunt the target. While this ability is on cooldown, Everett's allies take less damage.

  • An Arm and a Leg: He lost his right arm and his whole family during a Miramon attack when he was a child.
  • Broken Pedestal: It was Ophelia who cheered him up and joined the Union together. When she betrayed him, it took him a while to come to terms that she needs to face justice rather than to make up to him.
  • Evil Former Friend: To Ophelia, who deserted the Union and used Everett for her own revenge.
  • Guardian Entity: The giant, floating, armored left arm behind him that wields a BFS and assists Everett in battle. It's usually just the arm, but in some instances, like his animation for Valkyrie's Glory or his album art, it takes the form of a spirit-like knight.
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite losing his right arm, he is incredibly deadly with just his other arm.
  • It's Personal: His goal is to bring Ophelia to justice after her Face–Heel Turn that betrayed his trust when she used him for her schemes.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Other than his cold disposition giving him a jerk-look, he does care about his companions by handing them medicine and his desserts without saying much himself.
  • The Stoic: He's overly serious and often makes others around him uncomfortable.
  • Sweet Tooth: Though very hard to believe, he enjoys making desserts.
  • Valkyries: He takes on the power of the Valkyrie Tyr, who was known as the god concerned for the formalities of justice, which fit Everett's own ideals.

A stoic martial arts instructor from a lineage of martial artists in Tangton, known for combining her skills with her love of dance. She is a Defender Esper with a unique skillset that doesn't let her directly act unless she's the only one left alive.

  • Wu You has a total of three buffs. They are...
    • Grounded, which increases her DEF and C. RATE. She can have up to ten stacks, and all stacks are cleared when she takes lethal damage.
    • Shockproof, which increases the AP of its carrier when they take a hit once per turn. The carrier cannot be inflicted with DEF Down, and the effect clears upon taking lethal damage.
    • Poise, which increases Wu You's SPD, prevents her AP from being changed, skips her active turns, and prevents her from preforming counter or assist attacks as well as being debuffed.
  • Cygnet Waltz attacks an enemy three times, dealing damage based on Wu You's DEF. If this ability is used as a Pursuit attack, all stacks of Grounded will be removed from Wu You. When ascended, she grants a bonus turn to an ally with Shockwave, selected based on order of position.
  • Chaos Strike attacks all enemies twice, dealing damage based on Wu You's DEF. The higher a target's Max HP, the more damage is dealt. Each hit extends enemy cooldowns by one turn, and Wu You will follow up this attack with Cygnet Waltz as a pursuit.
  • Fade to Black attacks all enemies, dealing damage based on Wu You's DEF, dispelling all enemy buffs, and inflicting Buff Blocker. She will then follow up with Chaos Strike as a pursuit. Wu You gains Poise at the start of combat, and grants Shockproof to any other Defender Espers on her team. Once per target per turn, when she or a Shockproofed ally takes a hit, the attacker takes True Damage based on the DEF of whoever took the damage, and if Wu You is not incapacitated she gains a stack of Grounded. When she hits max stacks of Grounded, she will instantly cast Fade to Black. If Wu You is the only surviving ally on her team, the SPD increase provided by Poise will be changed drastically and her active turns will no longer be skipped.

  • Blades Below The Shoulder: In addition to kicks, her primary weapons are three blades strapped to her arms; one on her right and two on her left.
  • Dance Battler: She is known for combining her martial arts with her love of dance, likely based on Dijiang also being said to enjoy singing and dancing.
  • Delicate and Sickly: She was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect after fainting in the middle of a martial arts tournament, and was unable to do any strenuous excercise as a result. Awakening her Esper powers gave her the strength to fight and dance again.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Her eyes are hidden behind a blindfold, likely referencing Dijiang's lack of facial features.
  • Posthumous Character: Her friend Shang Yu, who encouraged her to join the Union and passed away after Wu You awakened her powers and fought off a pack of Miramon that had trapped them in a building when the Shackled Miracle descended. She took up Shang Yu's torch after her death, and now fights twice as hard to honour her fallen friend.
  • The Stoic: She's known throughout the Union as having an aloof and stoic attitude, as well as being a woman of few words.

Voiced By: Samantha Berman (English), Reina Ueda (Japanese), Soyeon (Korean)

A Chief Ops responsible for bringing Brynn to the Union. She is accompanied by her trusty sidekick Boomboom.

  • A Day in the Limelight: With Boomboom, she dives into DJ Contest's Heart Disks from other troubled Espers as a form of therapy.
  • Headbutting Heroes: She's not on good terms with Arcana due to him making fun of her with his drawings (he drew her head in the shape of a fish).
    Discboom: Arcana, you bastard!
  • Irony: So far, she's the only known Esper who hasn't been made playable as a fighter.
  • Mission Control: She is the game's tutorial for a starting player. She's also in charge of providing the player with random bounties.
  • Signature Headgear: The headphones she wears were made by Meredith so keep Discboom from being afflicted by Divine Waves.
