  • Archive Panic: As shown by this graph, Sips' main channel has 1,725+ videos as of August 2015. This is already quite a lot, but when you add his "Sips- Live!" channel the combined total is easily enough to push him into 2,000+ video territory.
  • Awesome Music: The outro for "Rambling with Sips" uses the fanmade "Stunt Crew" song, which is brilliantly well-made.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • While people were happy with Lewis Brindley joining the crew for Trouble in Terrorist Town, opinions were more divided when he eventually joined Sips' Murder! series and Turps did not return.
    • Sjin has gotten this for TTT as well. His fans point out that there is more tension in the game since more players means it's harder for others to work out who the traitor is, he's good at playing and has a sense of humour that matches Sips. Detractors view him as an unnecessary add-on who doesn't say much, with some going as far as to cite him as "the tip of the iceberg for [insert disliked Yogscast members here] joining". This was from the first episode alone.
    • While Turps is liked in Gmod and TTT, he has also earned a sizeable group of critics, in no small part due to the fact that he takes the Cowboy Cop approach and tends to RDM a lot as the detective or gunman. His shouting a lot also puts some people off, although this is something of a Double Standard since Hat Films shout a lot and seemingly never get called out on it.
    • With Kim Richards, Duncan Jones, Hannah Rutherford and Simon Lane joining all at once, while Hat Films and Turps are absent, the base is split between those who think they freshen up the game and those who dislike them for not being Hat Films or Turps.
    • While Sips still has a sizeable fanbase, some Yogscast fans are now eager to dismiss him as "the guy that plays Garry's Mod" and little else, particularly after he announced that he was getting bored with other material. This has since eased up a lot due to the new playthroughs and their positive reception.
  • Broken Base:
    • For a while, the changing of the iconic toaster mic to one with clearer audio.
    • The lack of Minecraft content on his channel for most of the first half of 2014 was a little divisive, although it led to the well-received Garry's Mod series and Sips featured prominently on Hat Films' Skyblocks series.
    • While Sips, Turps and Hat Films are normally decent enough compared to other Youtubers, and their behaviour has improved drastically since the beginning, their odd use of RDM and (mostly accidental) ghosting is somewhat controversial for fans of Garry's Mod. Turps is by far one of the most blatant offenders, even referring to himself as "the RDM detective".
    • Depending on your point of view, the over-the-top Japanese-style introduction is funny, a little lazy or outright offensive. While the first two groups are in the majority, the last of those viewpoints has been more vocal as of late. This became less of an issue after the intro changed into a Breaking Bad homage, although a smaller part of the last group then complained that they felt it was mocking drug abuse.
    • The release of shorter content starting in 2014 compared to his earlier work has ruffled some feathers. Again, this improved when he started different playthroughs.
    • The addition of Kim Richards, Hannah Rutherford, Duncan Jones and Simon Lane to Gmod has had something of a mixed reception, in no small part because Hat Films and Turps were missing. There's also an issue as to formatting, since the episode's format is the kind used on the main channel, as opposed to Sips', in part due to a surplus of Gmod episodes originally recorded for the main channel. Some are understanding, since Sips lost a good chunk of his hard drive and thus several recordings worth of data, whereas others would rather he stopped making videos until the issue was fixed (even though this would be bad for his career and income).
  • Crosses the Line Twice: A regular staple of his content involves Black Comedy and Squick, often to ridiculous degrees.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • He gained subscribers quite quickly after he got his own channel, and the only real complaint about the Yogscast Survival Games was that Sips was not competing. Similarly, complaints about Gmod videos on the main channel typically involve his absence.
    • On Sips' channel proper, Strippin has had a positive reception for his debut in Murder!. Compared to Sjin and Turps, who have both become divisive, the vast majority of the comments were approving of his joining, since he has good comedic chemistry with Sips, Turps and the Sirs.
  • Faux Yay: Sips and Sjin pretty much do this on purpose: putting their beds together, making comments like "Would you like some of my meat/wood/pork?", zooming in on each other's asses...
  • Friendly Fandoms: Aside from with the rest of the Yogscast, we have the following examples:
    • He and Hat Films have a very large fandom overlap, since the four play together pretty much nonstop. There's now a large group on Reddit that align themselves as fans of "Team SHAT", but not the other Yogscast members.
      • With the addition of Kim Richards, some are calling themselves "Team SKAT".
    • Even though some of the Yogscast have fallen out with TotalBiscuit, there are still plenty of TB fans that absolutely adore Sips. Even in the wake of some fairly unpleasant drama on reddit, both fandoms rejoiced when they found out that Sips would be on TB's podcast again.
    • There are plenty of people on the Fallout subreddit that keep spouting memes from Sips' playthrough.
  • Growing the Beard: While the Garry's Mod videos were seen as an appealing and refreshing change of pace, particularly with Hat Films joining, the series is seen to have improved when Turpster joined. The same applies for Trouble in Terrorist Town when Lewis Brindley joined, which also saw everyone's footage being used and not just Sips' POV.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Sips and Turps having a serious discussion on sexism and sexual harassment in "Dad Chat" is incredibly awkward to watch now, after Turps stepped down as CEO of the Yogscast following allegations of harassment himself.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: During his Chet Williams, erm, "review" of FIFA 15, he claimed that the game was about female football/soccer teams. Later in 2015, FIFA 16 was announced to have women teams available for the first time.
  • Jerkass Woobie: His Bad Boss character in the Tekkit playthrough. His Woobie-ness crosses over into funny with just how awkward he sounds.
  • Memetic Loser: A number of characters that Sips tends to mistreat become this, including Sorsby from Prison Architect, Uthgherd from Skyrim and Xavier Spencer from his 2016 Game Dev Tycoon playthrough.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "I ripped my dick off" has become one in the comments, due to the "Stop Having Fun" Guys and their taking things too seriously.
    • In Fallout, Sips' character Mike Tyson is prone to a lot of stupid behaviour, which the Fallout subreddit is now quoting nonstop.
    • Soo-sahn Will-yams!note
    • "HO-HO-HO TRAVELLERS. Thanks for getting the Staff of Magnus for me, I'll be taking that!" note
  • Memetic Psychopath:
    • From his "Summerslam" playthrough of Prison Architect, Sorsby, one of his inmates, who is routinely depicted as violent and a danger to everyone else in the prison, or at least moreso than he actually was.
    • The various characters Sips plays fall into this, depending on how much he tends to indulge in Comedic Sociopathy.
  • Mis-blamed: Despite Sips saying repeatedly that the increase in Gmod videos was due to his hard drive crash, he's been accused of abandoning all other games entirely by a ridiculously large part of the "fandom".
  • Never Live It Down: Smiffy ghosted once, and yet the comments sections since have been incredibly vitriolic and unreasonable since.
  • Nightmare Fuel: While most of the times that Ross shouts "EAT SHIT" are funny, there are occasions where he genuinely can be quite terrifying when playing Murder! on Sips' channel. For instance, during "Shields Up", Sips proposes that he go first since he doesn't have a gun, at which point Ross runs in screaming at the top of his lungs.
Ross: FUCK YOU! EAT SHIT! (stabs Sips and the gunman to death) YEAAAHHH!
  • Older Than They Think: Due to the popularity of his Fallout 1 playthrough and his computer's inability to play Fallout 3 due to the game not running well on later computers, fans requested that Sips do a playthrough of Fallout: New Vegas. He already has, and although the playthrough never came close to completion Sips has racked up roughly 300 hours of gameplay for it, so he's not exactly in a hurry to go back.
  • Seasonal Rot: Later seasons of Garry's Mod have met accusations of It's the Same, Now It Sucks!, with some complaints about only using Sips' footage for games; around August 2014 all players had their footage used, which was seen as an improvement, and having this removed wasn't a popular change.
  • "Stop Having Fun" Guys: In general, Sips focuses more on humour and less on progress, although that's not to say he doesn't do anything at all.
    • In Minecraft, some more fans complain about his solutions for problems which aren't practical, or bypass challenges.
    • The cases of RDM generally cause fans of Garry's Mod to raise their eyebrows, although a small portion of the detractors will claim he does it every video when he doesn't (in reality, cases of RDM are few and far between, particularly after he, Hat Films and Turps learn to play). Smiffy, for some reason, went from loved collaborator to having several haters in the span of a single episode, all because he ghosted once.
    • He acknowledges this to an extent for Skyrim, pointing out that during 100 episodes his progress wasn't quite as good as he'd hoped. When he starts his Fallout playthrough he indulges in Self-Deprecation by pointing out how badly he felt he'd done.
    • In Fallout, his character being an Idiot Hero is funny, but has also caused fans to point out how the game is much harder as a result. Most are understanding about it and fairly polite, unlike most cases of this trope, with some saying they won't hold it against Sips if he starts afresh. Indeed, Sips is forced to eventually wise up when the game nearly locks him out.
  • Suckiness Is Painful: Zigzagged. While Sips does make some truly cringeworthy decisions when playing games, said suckiness is also viewed as quite endearing by most of his fans.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • While most of his Skyrim Let's Play runs on Comedic Sociopathy, Sips is genuinely upset, at least temporarily, when he accidentally kills Vigilance, and is noticeably angry with Serana when she glitches and starts talking to him, distracting him from the make-do funeral.
    • Most of "Dad Chat" with Turps is actually very funny and heartwarming, but the parts where they discuss sexism get a bit depressing, particularly due to Turps worrying about what his newborn daughter will have to deal with later in life.
    • The usually upbeat Sips finally admitting that the Gmod hate has started to get to him. One can't help but feel sorry for him.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • Since Sips tends to be quite popular in Garry's Mod, any Yogscast Gmod video where he doesn't appear gets flak for it. The ones with InTheLittleWood got some serious hate, for some bizarre reason.
    • When Sips started releasing shorter content, fans were generally not pleased.
    • The addition of Duncan, Kim, Simon and Hannah to Gmod had some fans crying foul, in no small part due to the absence of Turps and Hat Films.
  • Win Back the Crowd: While his Gmod videos are still fairly popular, fans were starting to say It's the Same, Now It Sucks!. Sips appears to have won the crowd back with playthroughs of Evolve (with Turps and Hat Films), Don't Starve (with Turps) and Fallout.
  • The Woobie: Sips' Fallout character, dubbed "Mike Tyson", has a low level of intelligence to the point that he can't talk properly, is shunned by most in the wasteland and goes through a lot of pain. The fandom generally feels really sorry for him, although he eventually gained some IQ points back.
