The Little Things is the first film festival of the annual 48 Hour OSC Film Festival.

The theme/prompt, "The Little Things"

premiered live, 20th July 2021

showcases Object Shows, 46 shorts

This isn't related to the Neo Noir film of the same name that was released earlier that year.

In General

• Double-Meaning Title: The prompt is framed so that anyone can interpret it differently but mainly two meanings: Either the small comforts and acts in everyday life that keep us going or literal miniaturised beings.
• Lilliputians: When the theme is taken literally, expect the characters in the short to be miniature in size.

18. The Adventures of Rubber Ball and Seasul

Two friends and the Title Characters, Rubber Ball and Seasul, were lounging around their house when all of a sudden, their other friend Darvin gets kidnapped by the mysterious entity called "The Cloaked Figure". It would take a pair of balls for these pair of balls to defeat the villain, rescue their housemate and save the day.

• Aerith and Bob: The four balls are called Rubber Ball (The only one named after their species), Seasul (A butchered spelling of "Cecil"), Darvin (Relatively normal) and Delano (Uncommon).
• April Fools' Day: Turns out the entire adventure was all just an elaborate prank by Darvin's friend Delano and he was in on it. However, it's subverted when Delano and Darvin misinterpret April's Fools pranks as "pranks planned out in April and then carried out at a later date".
• Blue Oni, Red Oni: Rubber Ball is the responsible Blue Oni to the goofy-minded Seasul's Red Oni despite being ironically coloured red and blue respectively.
• Comically Small Demand: The Cloaked Figure threatens to kill Darvin unless the duo gives them a specific brand of soda. When they brought the wrong drink, they proceeded to go through with the treat until it was all revealed to be a prank.
• Color-Coded Characters: Rubber Ball is Red, Seasul is blue, Darvin is Yellow and The Cloaked Figure/Delano is black/white. This is made apparent when the short switches to live-action and the cutouts representing them are black-and-white which makes it hard to tell who's who at times.
• The Full Name Adventures: What the title is called with Those Two Guys Rubber Ball and Seasul.
• Medium-Shift Gag: Unintentionally as time constraints lead to downsizing on the short, changing the format from 2D animation to live-action with paper cutouts midway through. This was Handwaved as Rubber Ball and Seasul going on the "Magic Gondola That'll Make You Turn Live Action". However, this had an unfortunate side-effect of telling who's who for the rest of the short since the paper cut-outs were printed in black-and-white and the characters are identical colour-coded balls.
• My Nayme Is: Seasul is phonically pronounced as "Cecil" but spelled as a mash-up with "Seagull".
• Those Two Guys: The titular Title Characters who are never seen apart in the short which makes it difficult in the latter half to tell which one is Rubber Ball and which is Seasul.
• Pun: Rubber Ball asked if Seasul got the canned drinks for the Cloaked Figure's ransom to which the latter replied "Can confirm!".

• Disney Death: Orange Book falls to their death much to the anguish of Lipstick and Lip Gloss but since this an Object Show, there's always a recovery center nearby so the drama is immediately diffused.
• Have I Mentioned I Am Gay?: The dialogue is clunky here and there but it's especially noticeable when the characters referred to each other by their sexuality and gender identity without prompt. The comments in the live chat have even lampshaded how forced it sounds and has nothing to do with the actual plot.

Lipstick: "Uh, I'm Lipstick and this is my friend Lip Gloss. And we had been shrunk to tininess."

Lip Gloss: "That's right! That's my best lesbian girl Lipstick!"

[Later on when Orange Book is brought back to life...]

Lipstick: "Orange Book! My Transgender friend! I'm so glad that you're recovered!"

• Lipstick Lesbian: Quite literally with one of the protagonists by being both an actual lipstick and a lesbian.
• Pink Is Feminine: Lipstick and Lip Gloss had a shade of pink to them and are both females.
• Slow-Motion Fall: Having nowhere else to go, the trio jumped off the table in a slow-mo sequence to avoid getting crushed, resulting in Orange Book's death.

23. The Little Things SITCOM

• Fight for the Last Bite: Subverted. The three objects split and enjoy a pizza until there's one slice left. Instead of fighting, they settle it with a lighthearted Monopoly game and take their time playing it.
• Laugh Track: Subverted. Despite the name, there's not one instance of canned laughter throughout the short. Several comments in the live chat point this out and jokingly complain about the lack of it as they were anticipating such.
• Non-Indicative Name: There's not really much to indicate if the short is a sitcom since there's no drama, no Laugh Track, just three amigos sharing a pizza.
