    SOLDIER

Sephiroth Crescent

General of SOLDIER and Shinra's regular army

Zack Fair

A Colonel in SOLDIER, Aeris' boyfriend

Angeal Hewley

Former Colonel in SOLDIER, Sephiroth's friend, son of Gillian Hewley
  • Posthumous Character: He's already dead by the time the story starts. All further information on him comes from anecdotes told by Sephiroth, Zack, and Genesis.

Genesis Rhapsodos

A Colonel in SOLDIER, Sephiroth's surviving best friend
  • Adaptational Heroism: More heroic than his canon counterpart; here he genuinely cares for his friends. He also genuinely loves his parents, while it was suggested that Canon!Genesis had nothing but contempt for them.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: By Jenova in Chapter 48 and again in Chapter 60.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Cared about his parents, Angeal and Sephiroth.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being cured of his Jenova-induced insanity, he sides back with Sephiroth.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Even though it's one of his copies that actually kills his parents, Genesis is deeply remorseful and feels responsible for their deaths.
  • Shipper on Deck: Encourages Sephiroth/Elfe.
  • Ship Tease: With Shalua.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Sephiroth. They return to being friends after he's freed from Jenova's influence.

Deusericus "Deuce" Lazard

Director of SOLDIER, gave Sephiroth a field commission of Captain during the Wutai war

Cloud Strife

A private in the Shinra infantry and candidate for SOLDIER.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Inverted as a lot of elements in canon such as Zack and Aeris' death as well as him being Brainwashed and Crazy didn't appear in this story.
  • Badass Normal: Has none of his canon enhancements in this story yet manages to hold his own against a Brainwashed and Crazy Genesis in Chapter 48.
  • Demoted to Extra: Is the main character of the canon game, yet here gets far less page time.
  • Love Triangle: Subverted. While he was involved in a love triangle with both Aeris and Tifa in the original game, here he seems to show romantic feelings only toward Tifa. Justified because Zack is still alive.
  • Ship Tease: With Tifa.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He has very few scenes to himself yet his role in the story is what kick-starts the plot.

    Shinra Scientists and Executives

Finn Shinra

President of the Shinra Electric Power Company

Seiji Hojo

Head of the Shinra science department and Sephiroth's father.

Aethelred "Red" Palmer

Head of the Space Program

Sheila Scarlet

Former Turk, head of Weapons Development

Faremis Gast

Aeris' father, Ifalna's husband

Ifalna Gast

A Cetra and Aeris' mother. She was Gast's wife and research assistant.

    Deepground

Argento the Silver

A weapon smith and combat trainer in Deepground

Attrice

A JANE whom Weiss rescues. She later repays his kindness.

Azul the Cerulean

A biological giant and sub-commander
  • Adaptational Heroism: His canon counterpart is a bloodthirsty killer who only cares about proving his strength. Here he is a kind-hearted Parental Substitute to the younger Tsviets.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Upon being captured by the combined Shinra/Avalanche forces, Azul promptly surrenders and offers to trade Deepground's secrets for the freedom of his adopted family.
  • Parental Substitute: The closest thing Rosso, Nero, and Weiss have to a father.
  • Team Dad: Plays this role towards the younger Tsviets.
  • Ship Tease: He refers to Argento as his wife.

Jane

A woman kidnapped and put into Deepground's Breeding Program

Nero the Sable

Weiss' younger brother
  • Adaptational Heroism: While Nero is one of most sympathetic villains in Dirge of Cerberus, he is a ruthless killer who only cares about Weiss and is willing to let the others die. Here he cares for his adoptive family of Azul, Weiss, Rosso and Argento.
  • Ambiguously Bi: He doesn't refuse when Weiss offers to have sex with him, though they ultimately don't.
  • Casting a Shadow: His main power
  • Killed Off for Real: By the Restrictors in Chapter 56.
  • Love Triangle: Weiss and Rosso are involved in each other. Nero is interested in both of them.
  • Ship Tease: A physical relationship with Weiss and an emotional relationship with Rosso are hinted at.
  • Symbiotic Possession: Argento convinces Omega to fuse with Nero in order to save his life.

The Restrictors

Four Former POW s assigned to run Deepground. By the start of the story, they are completely under Jenova's control.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With Jenova, Hojo, and President Shinra.
  • Doc - The Restrictor in charge of the Medical facility. Besides general medical treatment of all who live around Reactor Zero, he is responsible for the Breeding Program, Mothers, and children under five years old as well as the general medical aspects of the SOLDIER program.
  • The Professor - The Restrictor in charge of the Deepground Science Department (yes, they have one too). This includes Jenova research, Hybrids (aka: mutant creatures), and the technological end of Weapons Development
  • Sarge - The Restrictor in charge of all things Military. The combative aspects of the SOLDIER program, particularly the Tsviets, the combat side of Weapons Development, and training troops, including new recruits and children over five years old.
  • Warden - The Restrictor who brings in new blood/fresh meat, depending on how you look at it. Requisition of new recruits (ie: kidnapping), Orientation (kiss your humanity goodbye), Placement (this is the totem pole. you are not on it.) and General Maintenance of Deepground (here's a toothbrush. start scrubbing.).
  • Adaptational Villainy: They are more ruthless than their canon counterpart.
  • Meat Puppets: All four are completely under Jenova's control and are essentially mindless puppets.

Rosso the Crimson

The only known female SOLDIER, as all other candidates died of Geostigma.

Usher

A JOE whom Weiss rescues. He later returns the favor.

Weiss the Immaculate

The leader of the Tsviets, Nero's older brother
  • Adaptational Heroism: While he wants to be free, his canon counterpart is a Manipulative Bastard who doesn't care whether his subordinates die or not, the only person he cares about is his half-brother Nero. Here he has good intentions, wanting his fellow Tsviets to survive though he is Trapped in Villainy.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Becomes enraged when Nero is left to die.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Has zero tolerance for rapists.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: By the end of the fic Weiss has come to understand just how messed-up Deepground truly is and wants to free not just himself and his family, but everyone from the control of the Restrictors.

Katagi

The youngest of Sephiroth's brothers.

Yasuragi

The middle of Sephiroth's brothers.

Yorozuyo

The oldest of Sephiroth's brothers.

Tifa Locheart

Cloud's friend from Nibelheim

Shalua Rui

A nurse from the Corel prison camp
  • Ship Tease: Gets some with Genesis after the second battle at Corel.

Shelke Rui

Shalua's younger sister who has been kidnapped by Deepground

Lucrecia Crescent

Sephiroth's mother and Hojo's wife. Her body has been preserved in mako after dying of ecclampsia while giving birth to Sephiroth.
  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: To Sephiroth.
  • Adaptational Heroism: While her canon counterpart loved Sephiroth and deeply regretted how things turned out, she still felt guilty for what happened to her son. Here, since Hojo was a better father than he was in the original game, she gets some heroism by proxy.
  • Not Quite Dead: As Vincent finds out in Chapter 52.

Grimoire Valentine

Vincent's father, a scientist who studied dark mako and the ancient gods of Gaia. He also served as Lucrecia's mentor.
  • Has been dead since before the beginning of the story, and all information about him comes from either Vincent or Lucrecia.

Gallian Beast

One of Vincent's Limit Breaks. A sentient canine once thought extinct.

Death Gigas

One of Vincent's Limit Breaks. A man who didn't survive an accident involving a mako reactor.

Hell Mask (Masuka)

One of Vincet's Limit Breaks. A POW from Wutai conscripted into Deepground's breeding program.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Deconstructed. She's the only female out of the various spirits in Vincent's head, and that fact makes her lonely and reluctant to return control once she's been let out.

Chaos

Lord of Entropy, Force of Nature, grumpy bat
  • Physical God: Comes with being an actualy force of nature.
  • Woman Scorned: Male example. He convinced the Cetra to allow Jenova a place in their society. He did not take the reveal of her true nature well.

Zirconiade

The final WEAPON, whose role is to purge everything that remains on Gaia after Omega has completely left the Planet.
  • Mama Bear: Gives off this vibde in her relationship towards Elfe.
  • Symbiotic Possession: Elfe and Zirconiade have been sharing one body ever since Elfe was three years old.

Jenova

An alien parasite from the stars responsible for the near extinction of the Cetra.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Jenova was always evil but in canon was a virus. Here she's fully sentient and enjoys being evil.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Chaos.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With President Shinra, Professor Hojo, and the Restrictors.
  • Evil Former Friend: With Chaos, though how much it was genuine is debatable.
  • Manipulative Bitch: In her backstory she seduced Chaos in order to get in with the Cetra, than betrayed him and the Cetra.
