This page covers the natives of the Baku country. This country and its people represent the late-Edo (Bakumatsu) period

    In General
  • The Shinsengumi: What the majority of the named characters from this country belong to. Those who don't (i.e. Katsura) are revolutionary activists opposing it.

    Takasugi Shinsaku
    Okita Sōji

Voiced by: Toshiyuki Toyonaga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_8okita.png
Rarity (Base): Medium
Element (Base): Fire

Not to be confused with Okita Sōji from Hakuouki who makes a guest appearance.

The young Squad 1 captain of the Shinsengumi. A deeply annoying prankster, yet also a valiant swordsman and a sweet-natured young man.

  • Badass Tyke: When you're this young and you're a Shinsengumi captain.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Sake/alcoholic beverages, probably because he isn't old enough to drink.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: The reaction his victims have towards his pranks especially the one where he pretends to cough up blood; it's the last straw for the protagonist.
  • The Gadfly: He likes pulling pranks so he can rouse a reaction from others. He also seems to enjoy being chased around by enraged victims.
  • Incurable Cough of Death/Blood from the Mouth: In line with his historical counterpart. Subverted, it's a prank involving red syrup.
  • Master Swordsman
  • The Prankster: To infuriating levels. His pranks include slipping chili into tea, doodling on Shinpachi's loincloth and faking tuberculosis.
  • Starter Mon: He's one of the summons you can select for free when you first begin the game.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Mitarashi-dango.
  • Undying Loyalty: To his superior Kondō. At the beginning of his story, he says that he's only being nice to the heroine because Kondō told him to.
  • Western Zodiac: Leo (August 20). He also has the Fire element.
    Saitō Hajime

Voiced by: Ryōta Ōsaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_5saito.png
Rarity (Base): Medium
Element (Base): Water

Not to be confused with Saitō Hajime from Hakuouki who makes a guest appearance.

The youngest Shinsengumi officer with quiet demeanor and extremely crappy eyesight. However, he's the captain of Squad 3 and it shows – he's as badass as he can get everytime he's got a sword in his hands.

  • Badass Tyke: He's said to be the youngest Shinsengumi officer, making him an even younger captain than Sōji.
  • Blind Mistake: He has extremely poor eyesight, causing him to mistake stuff for one another and have to lean in uncomfortably close to another person in order to recognize them. One wonders why he doesn't just go get glasses.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Vinegar.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": The heroine calls him Hajime-san at first, but he requests her to change it to -kun.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: He may be stoic and quiet normally, but becomes a force to reckon with every time he takes hold of a sword.
  • Master Swordsman: Extra impressive considering his eyesight.
  • Starter Mon: He's one of the summons offered for free to beginners.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Soba.
  • Visible Silence: The quote cited in his profile on the official website is just a line of dots.
  • Western Zodiac: Aquarius (February 18).
  • Younger Than They Look: He looks like an adult, but is actually younger than Sōji.
    Serizawa Kamo

Voiced by: Jun'ichi Suwabe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_9serizawa.png
Rarity (Base): Very High
Element (Base): Dark
One of the Shinsengumi commanders, a foul-mouthed and irritable drunkard who is often misunderstood, but deeply cares about his comrades.
  • Hunk: Just look at him. The game makes sure to showcase his build as much as possible by putting him in all sorts of revealing clothing (including shibari fetish gear) and even making him a Walking Shirtless Scene at some point.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Given the game's Cast Full of Pretty Boys, he stands out as one of the sexier ones. If Mitsuhide is a Mr Fanservice of the Bishōnen type, he is one of the Hunk type. If that isn't enough, his Kugutsu form makes him the first character to have sex with the heroine on screen.
  • Smoking Is Cool
    Nagakura Shinpachi

Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara

    Yamazaki Susumu

Voiced by: Chiharu Sawashiro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_6yamazaki.png
Rarity (Base): Medium
Element (Base): Wind
A nice and easygoing man who works for the Shinsengumi as an informant. He enjoys being the Team Chef and onigiri is his specialty.
    Katsura Kogorō

Voiced by: Yoshimasa Hosoya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_7katsura.png
Rarity (Base): High
Element (Base): Wind
A close friend of Shinsaku who aids the company during their time in Baku. A kind man with revolutionary ideals and finds himself in direct opposition with the Shinsengumi as a result. He can hold his own in a battle just fine, but dislikes direct combat and prefers to retreat, hence dubbed "Runaway Kogorō".
  • Alliterative Name: Katsura Kogorō.
  • Batman in My Basement: Has to be treated like this during Koi wa Yukemuri, much to the heroine's dismay. He unknowingly visits a hot springs resort where some Shinsengumi members happen to also be, leading her to have to constantly hide him from them while sheer bad luck makes her never get the chance to tell him the truth.
  • Captain Oblivious: In the first Yonkoma strip, he puts on a rather pathetic disguise consisting of a scarf over his head that barely covers his face while musing about how important it is for him to keep his identity a secret. He is still musing by the end of the strip even when practically everyone recognizes him and the whole fricking Shinsengumi is right behind him.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Shungiku, crown daisy.
  • In-Series Nickname: "Runaway Kogorō", in line with his historical counterpart.
  • Less Embarrassing Term: "It's not fleeing, it's tactical retreat!"
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy
  • Lovable Coward: He prefers fleeing to direct confrontation as a result of being a wanted criminal. Leads to a fairly tearjerking moment in his Ōshōbu story in which he, now outside Baku, is glad that he doesn't have to run away from anyone.
  • Martial Pacifist: He's a badass alright, but he doesn't like fighting directly and just flees whenever he gets the chance.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fried tofu. He's also stated to have a simple appetite.
  • Western Zodiac: Leo (August 11).
    Shingū Umanosuke
    Shimada Sakigake
    Hijikata Toshizō

Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_10hijikata.png
Rarity (Base): Very High
Element (Base): Light

Not to be confused with Hijikata Toshizō from Hakuouki who makes a guest appearance.

The overly strict Vice Commander of the Shinsengumi, dubbed the "Demon Vice Commander". Despite this, he is actually quite caring towards his subordinates and is adored by the entire Shinsengumi in return.

  • By-the-Book Cop: He places great emphasis on following the Shinsengumi regulations and deals harsh punishments to those who don't follow them.
Toshizō: Failure to adhere to the regulations equals seppuku.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Bitter melons.
  • The Ghost: He used to be one, as he is very frequently talked about among Shinsengumi members before he is properly released.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He is strict to his subordinates in general. Guess they don't call him the Demon Vice Commander for no reason.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Stern as he is, deep down he is really caring towards the rest of the Shinsengumi. He isn't adored by them without a reason.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Takuan – pickled daikon.
  • Tsurime Eyes
  • Western Zodiac: Gemini (May 31)
    Sakamoto Ryōma

Voiced by: Shin-ichiro Miki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_11ryoma.png
Rarity (Base): Very High
Element (Base): Wind
The revered captain of the Kaientai, a revolutionary man with a warm personality and a sharp mind.
  • Japanese Pronouns: First-person washi, second-person onshi and oman as part of his Shikoku dialect.
  • Western Zodiac: Scorpio (November 15), but is nowhere as unpleasant as the stereotypes often associated with this sign.
    Kondō Isami
