"Evil Adventuring Party"

Common to all

Anti-Hero: While they do have some low morals, they mostly target people who are depraved and vile.
Being Good Sucks: Combined with No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. All of them once behaved in a good and noble manner and were made to suffer horribly as a direct result.
Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Psychological torture accompanied by physical torture, hands down, is the main reason why they went from lovable heroes into sadistic vigilantes. The fact that each of them was betrayed by a 'friend' into indirectly causing the deaths of the nice part of their families was the main blow to their sanity, followed by a general lack of trust or compassion from every 'good guy' around them.
Best Served Cold: They put off their vengeance, to savor, like some people put off sampling a fine wine.
Birds of a Feather: Their greatest common bond is the fact that they've all got horrendous backstories centered around discrimination, enslavement, and betrayal to justify their sadistic addiction to slow-and-painful vengeance.
Complexity Addiction: As Kaito himself notes, they could assassinate all their enemies and get them out of their lives in weeks, but they just wouldn't find that satisfying. Instead, they spend months assembling convoluted, custom tailored plans in order to put on a show designed to crush all their hopes and dreams.
Evil Virtues: Determination, Equality, Honesty, Gratitude, Honor, and especially Love. None of this stops them from enjoying the suffering they inflict on their targets or intentionally causing severe collateral damage.
High on Homicide: They all get near-orgasmic glee when they bring some vigilante justice on their revenge targets, or murder those who go out of their way to earn their ire.
A Lighter Shade of Black: Yes, they are horribly sadistic and brutal when provoked, living for the thrill of vengeance, but they are still, for the most part, capable of mercy and friendship to those who are persecuted by the homicidally prejudiced. Those they're hunting down merely pretend to have sympathetic traits and have hurt others for even flimsier reasons.
Madness Mantra: They will often descend into rants, repeatedly verbalizing how much they want their enemies to suffer and die.
Never Be Hurt Again: The primary motivation for their vigilante justice. They want to utterly crush, humiliate, torture, and drive to despair everyone that wronged them so that those assholes never harm them, or anyone else, ever again.
Pay Evil unto Evil: They are all gleefully vicious and cruel to their targets. Said targets are all absolute monsters who deserve what's coming to them.
The Power of Hate: Their will is fueled by this. They even mentally linked themselves to fan the flames.
Relative Button: Messing with any one of them is the same as messing with all of them, and they will see to it that you regret it, as a quick, simple death will be too good for you. And of course, their hatred is mostly driven by their less-than-loving family members screwing them and their sane family members over.
There Is Only One Bed: Defied. Even though they frequently share the same room at whatever inn they patronize, they sleep in separate beds.
Torture Technician: At every free moment, they bounce ideas off of each other to see what would be the most effective physical, psychological, emotional, or all of the above, method to make their victims suffer.
Undying Loyalty: After suffering years of betrayal and abuse from their enemies, they will never, ever betray or maliciously deceive one another. The Sword of Vengeance ritual also binds them subconsciously to this vow.
Unholy Matrimony: Joined by ritual under the Sword of Vengeance, they are bound together, until death does them part.
Vigilante Man: They're JRPG adventurers, except they exact vengeance on the NPCs who have outright genocidal dark secrets.
Vengeance Feels Empty: Defied. The Sword of Vengeance not only compels them to carry out their grudges on their revenge targets, upon pain of death if they refuse, but carrying out their righteous vengeance is cathartic on both sides of the fourth wall. It's not known what will happen when they run out of Asshole Victims, but it's also implied in-story that they will never run out of Asshole Victims.

Yes, yes! SHOW ME YOUR DESPAIR!

The titular protagonist and “hero”. Once an ordinary Japanese youth, he was summoned by Princess Alesia to defeat the evil Demon Lord, only to be betrayed and murdered by all his supposed allies once he did the job. Having been brought back to life, he decides to seek vengeance against the ones who ruined him. He also decides to recruit a team of similarly abused people, mostly women, in helping him get his vengeance.

The Atoner:
- Although the horrific betrayal and exploitation he suffered from his so-called companions in the original timeline crushed just about every virtue he had underfoot, he still feels guilty towards all the innocents who were caught up in their villainy. As such, in the current timeline, he does his best to make sure such evil does not go after them again, though this does have limits.
- A What the Hell, Hero? from the dwarf blacksmith convinces him to help random civilians during his revenge quest instead of killing them for unknowingly being on the same side as horrible people.
Call to Agriculture: He considers settling down to become a farmer after he finishes his revenge.
Crime of Self-Defense: In the original timeline, Princess Alesia and The Saintess put out a bounty on his head for the "crime" of protesting his innocence and fighting back against those out to murder him.
Earn Your Happy Ending: After so much pain and suffering he went through; he finally gets to put an end to all his enemies and gets to return to Japan along with Minaris, marry her, and start a new life with the woman he loves.
Even Evil Has Standards: He may have had all the good and righteousness beaten and crushed out of him, but there are still some lines he will not cross.
- After a serious talk from the Dwarf blacksmith, he will not endanger innocents in his pursuit of revenge if they aren't in the way.
- He will not rape or take advantage of a woman, sexually, in any way, not even for revenge targets. Informed consent is critically important to him.
Frame-Up: In the original timeline, he was framed for all the crimes his "companions" actually committed, including a massive and stupidly executed "Crime Slave" crackdown on the poor of Princes Alesia's kingdom.
Friend to All Children: In the original timeline, his favorite place to spend his downtime was a local orphanage, and the children there loved him. Enough of this remains in the current timeline that a What the Hell, Hero? still works when he's shown that a child might get caught up in his schemes. After returning to Japan, possibly offscreen he and Minaris had children considering his love for them.
Genre Savvy: In the current timeline, he makes Minaris wake him up early, so they can visit the Adventurer's Guild before noon, when the rowdy bunch starts to show up, because he's aware of the "cliche" where a rookie adventurer gets mobbed by the seasoned pros who resent the "upstart." Even so, it still happens, just not to him.
Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: In the original timeline, after he was betrayed, he simply could not understand the motives of his "companions" for hunting him down. One orphanage turned into a sea of blood later, with a parchment blaming him "conveniently found" nearby, and he started to understand real quick.
Harem Seeker: In the current timeline, he "recruits" attractive females with a burning desire for vengeance to be his "accomplices."
Hero with Bad Publicity: After taking down the Demon lord, all of his "companions" evil actions were placed onto him, and he was tortured and executed for it. In the current timeline, he may have gained darker traits, he's still a better person compared to the princess and the others. He still has this publicity status after he took a lot of his enemies down as they are all Villains With Good Publicity and the public sees him as the leader of the "Evil Adventuring Party".
He Who Fights Monsters: Invoked aversion. He refuses to become someone that just enjoys random murder as he takes revenge. Feeling that if he becomes just like the people that betrayed him, he'll taint his revenge.
Henpecked Husband: Minaris, despite being his slave, completely has him pussy-whipped.
Horrible Judge of Character: In the original timeline, he was utterly incapable of telling the difference between genuinely good people and the local Bitch in Sheep's Clothing. In the current timeline, he's gotten much better at it.
Ideal Hero: In the original timeline, he was the epitome of righteousness. The cruelty and betrayal of his "companions," pushing all their crimes onto him, making him the enemy of the world, and hunting him down like an animal, put an end to all that.
I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: One of the first things he does with Minaris, once she's out of the slave tent, is rub her ears, out of curiosity, when she starts showing signs of arousal, he backs off, apologizing.
I Hate Past Me: Combined with It's All My Fault. He hates the fact that he took Princess Alesia and the "companions" she picked out for him at their word, and at face value, while they were pretending to be his allies, rather than be the tiniest bit suspicious when they acted oddly. This doesn't stop him from wanting vengeance against them for being horrible people who hunted him down after he did their work for him so they could pin their worst crimes on him.
It Sucks to Be the Chosen One: Chosen to be summoned, hailed as the "Hero" and then made The Scapegoat, hunted down and killed. Also, the summoning ritual murdered 200 innocent people in both worlds along with his family. Yeah, that does suck.
Level Drain: The Tutorial Mode takes away Exp in proportion to the amount of time it goes on. Since he lived for far longer than a person from another world usually does, when Kaito is sent back in time, not only does he lose all of his experience points, but he actually owed the system a massive interest in the form of negative Exp, preventing him for even getting to Level 2 without serious grinding to pay the fee, and had it not been for the Sword of Vengeance stopping it, the drain would have gone on for much, much longer.
Love Martyr: In stereotypical Japanese protagonist fashion, when he likes a girl, romantically, he rarely sees anything wrong in letting her beat the shit out of him when she gets mad, even when he's way, way more powerful than she is, both in the original and current timelines. Of course, if he finds out that said girl is merely stringing him along, doesn't reciprocate his feelings, or has actively betrayed him, it's vengeance time!
Nominal Hero: In the current timeline, the targets of his vengeance are so utterly despicable, that hunting them down (while giving them a Cruel and Unusual Death) makes the world a much better place, and he has the "Hero" title purely by virtue of his previous attitude in a timeline that no longer exists.
No Name Given: Not himself, but he was smart enough to Not tell Alesia his name when he escaped after coming out of Tutorial Mode.
Oblivious to Love: Subverted. He strongly suspects that his "accomplices" have romantic feelings for him, but because he's still pining away for Leticia, the demon lord he romanced in the original timeline, he is unable to act on his suspicions. The fact that most romantic overtures are done by the girls while they're "under the influence" doesn't help.
One-Note Cook: Subdued. While he's a fairly decent chef, his best dish is Grateful Boar stew, which very, very few people can cook well.
Pay Evil unto Evil: Combined with a A Taste Of His Own Medicine. His primary method to break his victims down is to put them through, as closely as possible, everything they've done to others, including himself. Only once they've lost everything they care about, does he bother to kill them.
Pet the Dog: At the end of the Grond Dot arc, Kaito visits the orphanage bought out by Grond in the original timeline, cries Tears of Joy upon seeing the orphan's smiling faces, and anonymously returns The Stone Leaf Blade that Grond extorted, as well as making a sizable monetary contribution so the widow Myun can keep the place going without worry. He also put word out to The Slugs and various other bad actors that the orphanage better not get messed with...
Revenge Before Reason: He's well aware that his thirst for vengeance is emotion based, not rational. He still proves justified because his targets are just that despicable.
- In the case of Leon, he considers the possibility that Leon might have some understanding of the true nature of the world that Kaito does not, and that it may very well have given him no other choice than to do what he did. He also makes it clear that even if that really is the case, he couldn't care less and will pursue his vengeance against him no matter what it may cost. Even if that cost is The End of the World as We Know It.
- He isn't sure whether Leticia would agree with him killing her sister to get revenge for betraying them, but even if that did make Leticia hate him, he would go through with it regardless.
Shut Up, Kirk!: When Leona starts preaching at him how Vengeance Feels Empty and he should be rejoicing at the new life this Last-Second Chance has given him, he not only tells her to shut up, and her "I know how you feel" platitudes are a bald-faced lie, but that his revenge targets are so despicable, that if he tries to live without enacting retribution on them first, they will make his life utterly impossible. She remains unmoved.
Stock Light-Novel Hero: Deconstructed. Possibly the darkest deconstruction to date outside of Keyaru. Summoned against his will, home and family murdered from the summoning without his knowledge or consent, he spent three years struggling to save the new world from the Demon Lord, only to have his "companions" turn on him when he succeeds, spent another year hunted down by the entire kingdom, and stabbed to death by said "companions" as they're happily patting themselves on the back rejoicing at "the death of evil", pinning their sickest crimes on his corpse, and whining about how long it took them to kill him.
Sympathetic Murderer: His revenge targets are so despicable and have put him and his companions through so much crap, that the audience actually looks forward to seeing him end them.
Tears of Joy: Upon seeing his favorite orphanage, and all the kids there, alive, well, and playing happily, as kids should.
Then Let Me Be Evil: In the original timeline, as he lay dying, he openly voices this sentiment, vowing to gain revenge in the cruelest way possible upon his tormentors. If he's being treated as and openly called "the evil of mankind," then why not act like it?
Too Desperate to Be Picky: The primary reason Princess Alesia, and his "companions" kept cornering him, over and over again in the original timeline is that no matter how powerful he got, he still needed food, shelter, and rest. So he would fall for "grateful friends" that were rescued by him at one point or another, and promised him refuge, only to later sell him out.
Unstoppable Rage: When he learned exactly what Princess Alesia paid to have him summoned, murdering 200 Beastman slaves, 205 of his friends, classmates, teachers and family just to summon him to her world, and the fact that she never saw him as human, he exploded in rage and desperately wanted to make her and her fellow conspirators suffer.
Unwitting Pawn:
- In the original timeline, Princess Alesia monopolized and heavily controlled all the information available to him, having him dance in her hands, until her goal of eradicating the Demon Lord came to fruition, at which point she and the hand-picked "companions" she chose for him framed him for their wrong-doing and declared him the enemy of mankind, hunting him down like an animal.
- It is implied, even in the new timeline, that he is completely ignoring critically important information about the true mastermind behind his suffering, because he is letting his emotions out of control and obsessing with hunting down his more immediate antagonists.
Villain Protagonist: As he's well aware and lampshades, he's an evil bastard out for vengeance, just to gratify himself and his "accomplices."
Weak, but Skilled: Compared to the original timeline. His levels and powers were mostly lost due to Level Drain, but his techniques and knowledge gained from near-constant battle stayed with him, as did his memories of the "unlock" conditions. So while he may no longer be a level 100+ juggernaut, it is still extremely dangerous to underestimate him, as many found out, the hard way.
Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Kaito was dragged to a new world against his will by Princess Alesia ostensibly to save her people from the Demon Lord. He spends three years doing just that, training and adventuring with little if any rest until he succeeds. Once he succeeds, the suffering truly begins. The companions picked out for him, including the princess herself, all turn on him. For an entire year, he is hunted like an animal, framed for every crime imaginable, and every single time someone reached out to him, offering aid and shelter, the person in question would happily sell him out the moment his guard was down. The princess herself even corners him once, purely to taunt him concerning the fact that the 200 hundred people physically closest to him at the time he was summoned were slain, and five close relatives died horribly, just from the summoning alone, and it would take a similar sacrifice to even think of going back. At the prologue, the so-called companions all caught up to him and repeatedly stabbed him in the chest, looking upon him with derision for the fact that it's taking so long to kill him, patting themselves on the back "for slaying evil" as he dies, swearing vengeance. Then he wakes up, four years in the past, right back in the summoning chamber, face to face with the very Princess Alesia who summoned him. Not letting himself become her pawn this time, he sets off on the path of vengeance.
World's Strongest Man: In the previous timeline, he managed to become the world's strongest mortal. He loses most of this power when time is reset, but eventually recovers enough of it to put him above all but the strongest demons.
Would Hit a Girl: Of the many, many things his betrayal stole from him, chivalry is at the top of the list. He will use violence on women in the current timeline, especially if she is a revenge target.
Would Not Hit a Girl: In the original timeline, he was very chivalrous and would not use violence on women, even in self-defense, until he was forced to kill the Demon Lord, and then his "companions" started to hunt him and forced him to defend himself.
Would Not Hurt A Child: One of the very few redeeming traits that remain from the original timeline is that he will not intentionally put a child in danger. When the blacksmith showed him a little girl that was rescued from the monster attack brought about by the very breach in the royal capital's outer wall he used to escape, it shook him to the core.
Wrong Genre Savvy: In the original timeline, to keep himself sane after being thrust into an RPG Mechanics 'Verse, he believed he was trapped inside a VR game, Swords Art Online is even mentioned by name.
You Can't Go Home Again: Cruelly invoked by Princess Alesia, just to spite him as not only would it take 405 blood sacrifices, 200 from each world and 5 blood relatives, to repeat the summoning ritual and bring him back to his world. Even if he didn't care about the extra sacrifices or getting arrested for a sudden act of terrorism on Earth, he'd have to return to a world where his family and friends are dead. Then she sickly proposes he rape a few dozen beastmen so she can sacrifice them while he watches.
You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Once he killed the demon lord in the original timeline, all his "companions" framed him for their own crimes, put a bounty on his head, and hunted him down For the Evulz.

Who will our next victim be, Master?

Enslaved for the "crime" of being a beastman and saving the life of her Childhood Friend.

Anger Born of Worry: She gets very mad at Kaito putting himself in danger in the end of the first novel.
Break the Cutie: She's been in the slave pens, and suffered all the related abuses, including nobles and neighboring slaves trying to make her their "toy," for around 10 years. (She's 17 in the present, was 7 when she was sold into slavery.)
Cannot Spit It Out: She refuses to as she knows that Kaito still holds a torch for Leticia and confessing now would just lead to her being rejected.
Deceased Parents Are the Best: Played straight with her mother, Maryse, who agreed to be sold into slavery, and took the brunt of the abuse from the slave merchant and their fellow slaves, to save her, dying as a direct result. Averted with her father however, after he sold them both out to save his own skin.
Defiant Captive: No matter how she was mistreated by the slave merchant or her fellow slaves, she never quit fighting for her dignity. In the manga, she even bites Kaito's hand when she thinks he's buying her to be a Sex Slave.
Earn Your Happy Ending: After being betrayed by her home, tortured, and seeing her mother die, she takes revenge on her hometown ten years later and takes care of all of her and Kaito's enemies and returns to Japan with him, finding peace and marrying Kaito living a happy life with him.
Enraged by Idiocy: A non-comedic example. Kirel's self-righteous naivety infuriates her, since he believed Lucia's lies about her being a bully and called her evil despite the lack of evidence or investigation on his part, and also sees to it that she's sold into slavery under the belief she can be "cured" of being an "evil beastman". When Kirel abysmally fails her Secret Test of Character and proves that he hasn't changed his way of thinking even as an adult, she has no qualms with torturing him to death in retribution for his actions towards her as a child.
Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Gender inverted on Minaris' part. Apart from Kaito, the only other person she genuinely loved was her mother Maryse. Minaris actually weeps tears of joy after taking her brutal revenge upon the citizens of her former hometown, knowing that her mother has now been avenged.
Fantastic Arousal: As Kaito accidentally discovers, her rabbit ears are very ... sensitive.
The Farmer and the Viper: How is she rewarded by Lucia, her best friend, for saving her life? Said friend outs her as a beast-man and then tells anyone and everyone that she was bullied into previously keeping quiet about it, with a smug smirk on her face.
Happiness in Slavery: Firmly in the lesser evil category. It's far, far safer for her to be Kaito's slave than to be a free-man in his company. Even with her ability to use illusion magic to hide her beast-man traits, the smallest mistake would break the illusion and put her life at risk, as she learned when she was seven years old. Also, the Sword of Vengeance contract means it's more of a mutual binding; neither of them can bring themselves to take advantage of the other from magical compulsion.
I Am Not Pretty: Kaito has to constantly tell her that he finds her beautiful before she believes it.
An Ice Person: After a temporary Fusion Dance with Kuu, she unlocks the ability to cast Ice-based magic.
Karmic Jackpot: After being betrayed by her childhood friends, father, and village as well as losing her mother and being tortured while in slavery, Kaito then freed her, and she got her revenge on all the people who wronged her and Kaito as well as even marrying Kaito and starting a new happy life with him in Japan.
Lecherous Licking: She licks a spoon that Kaito once used to satisfy her feelings for now.
Little Bit Beastly: Aside from her rabbit ears and tail, she could pass as a human, and often uses illusion magic to do so.
Love at First Sight: In her side-chapters, she honestly believes she fell madly, emphasis on "madly," in love with Kaito when he purchased her from the slave trader and promised granting her the vengeance she sought.
Made a Slave: She and her mother were sold into slavery as a direct result of Millanis saving Lucia's life, revealing her Beast-man powers in the process.
Manipulative Bitch: Despite being madly in love with Kaito, she doesn't actively pursue him because she realizes that he's still pinning for Leticia due to seeing Kaito's memories. But she knows even Kaito doesn't have much hope of getting together with Leticia so she meticulously plans to gain his love when he finally gets over Leticia. She even states her actions are like a poison taking hold of a victim.
Patricide: Minaris finally gets revenge upon her father ten years after he betrayed his family to save his own worthless life. She originally planned to torture him slowly, prolonging his suffering. However, when the man made it clear that he no longer loved her and felt no remorse for what he had done to either her or Maryse, Minaris flew into a rage and beat him to death with her own hands.
Pet the Dog: At a local fair, she helps a sweet, innocent little girl win a rigged carnival game so that said girl can get the high-grade healing potion her mother needs to live.
Poisonous Person: Her inherent magical ability focuses around generating poisons that can't be scattered or dispelled until she wishes it.
Sadist: Loves to see her enemies suffer at her hands in the most mallious ways, though its justified as all her enemies betrayed and abandoned her, even her own dick of a father.
Single-Target Sexuality: After being taken in by Ukei from the Merchant Slaver and being accepted by him despite being a demi-human, she fell madly in love with him and sees him as the only man she loves.
Supreme Chef: Despite her belief to the contrary, she's an exceptional cook, though she tends to get quite cross if Kaito tries to give her a break in making the family meals...
That Thing Is Not My Child!: From her own father who disowned her and her mother, just to save his skin from an angry mob that Lucia's lies whipped up.
Through His Stomach: How she's trying to win Kaito's affections. It seems to be working.
Trauma Button: Threatening her with slavery. This is a fundamentally bad idea, as your death will be slow and graphic.
Violently Protective Girlfriend: Anyone who harms Kaito in any way will be put in the ground as she has killed many just for harming or attempting to kill Kaito.
Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Originally, Millanis (Minnalis) was a sweet little girl, taught an illusion spell by her mother to hide her beast-man features from the world, not comprehending the concept of racism. At the age of seven years old, while she was searching for food in the forest with her best friend, Lucia, due to early winter, the two of them chanced upon an Ice Goblin. Lucia panics, screams, and freezes in terror drawing the Ice Goblin's attention, endangering the both of them. Rather than fleeing and leaving her friend to die, or worse, Millanis uses her full strength to fight and drive off the Ice Goblin, revealing her beast-man traits. Initially grateful, Lucia promises to keep the beast-man heritage a secret. Millanis learns, to her horror, that Lucia did not keep her word, as the entire village was up in arms, dragging her out of her home, demanding she should reveal herself as a beast-man, and demanding her mother reveal herself too, with Lucia loudly proclaiming that Millanis forced her into silence, by threats of violence, then smirking and taunting Lucia hiding behind the backs of the mob of angry villagers. Not getting a chance to defend themselves, Millanis and her mother were stoned, beaten, driven out of the village and sold into slavery, where the slave merchant and their fellow slaves beat and abused them horribly for ten years, Millanis's mother dying in the process. When Kaito found her in the slave tent, she was on the verge of starving to death and being thrown away. She wasted no time in carrying out her vengeance on the merchant and her fellow slaves the moment Kaito gave her the chance.
Yandere: Her first side-chapter reveals she's very much this towards Kaito. She regularly pretends to be mana-drunk to her flirting with him to slowly weaken his resistance to her charms and even has a collection that includes his hair and a spoon that he used. Though she has enough sanity to realize that she's being a pervert and hides her affection from him because she realizes he could reject her.

Yumis's younger half-sister. She made a 3-year long contract with Yumis, only to discover that Yumis wasn't satisfied with merely screwing her over.

Big Eater: After joining Kaito's party, she's almost constantly snacking on something.
Casual Kink: As a result of the manner in which Kaito rescues her, pinning her down by stepping on her back to keep her from suicidally lashing out against her demon tormentor, she awakens to a masochistic desire to be stepped on by him.
Children Are Innocent: She was the highlight of this trope, and paid dearly for it.
Discard and Draw: She permanently loses all of her magical talent due to her sister, Yumis, stealing it, with no easy way to reverse it and sealing the deal with Yumis's death. Signing a magical vengeance contract with Kaito gives her new abilities.
Doomed Hometown: While she was trapped in a Gilded Cage for three years, her home village was utterly destroyed.
Emotionless Girl: In the original timeline, she appeared to be this. The truth... is a different story.
Gilded Cage: She was locked, by choice, in a room, never allowed to leave for three solid years, and given the lap of luxury, so her magic power could be taken by Yumis, in exchange for having her younger sister cured of a deadly illness. Yumis had her home village wiped out, and used the corpses for experiments into creating undead.
Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Her greatest joy while she was in her Gilded Cage is a large collection of stuffed animals crafted by Yumis's maid, Sori.
Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Originally, she was golden-haired blonde, and a wonderful child adored by her mother and home village. Yumis put an end to both.
Half-Human Hybrid: She starts the story as a hybrid, due to her father being pure human, while her mother had elf blood. Killing a demon and absorbing it with the power of her contract with Kaito causes a race change and turns her into a pure blooded dark elf.
Heroic Bastard: At first. Despite being the daughter of her father's mistress, she was a good, kind, and decent child who made her mother proud and was loved by her entire village. Yumis's cruelty brought an end to all of that.
Human Resources: Yumis stole her scarlet eyes for her own use after turning her into a puppet in the original timeline, and planned to do it as well in the current timeline.
Human Sacrifice: Yumis promised her soul to a demon, after stealing her magical powers.
If You Thought That Was Bad...: Kaito didn't think anything he would learn about Yumis would make him even more angry at her than her actions in the original timeline.... Until he heard Shiura's backstory, and then he went so bone-chillingly angry that his plan(s) for vengeance went straight out the window and he went full tilt Indy Ploy, just to keep from thinking about it and going Axe-Crazy.
Innocence Lost: Thanks to her elder sister's cruelty, her innocence was ripped away.
Leonine Contract: She was in one. Her younger sister, Selma, was mortally ill, and Yumis offered up the cure, in exchange for her magical powers and talents. Yumis had no intention of honoring her end, and even took it further by murdering Selma for science. Along with the rest of Shiura's hometown.
Marionette Master: In the current timeline, joining Kaito's party allows her to animate stuffed animals and have them do her will, as if they were sentient beings following orders.
Pet the Dog: After Minaris helps a little girl win a rigged carnival game where the prize is a healing potion said little girl needs for her mother, Shiura escorts the little girl home, in case the carnies try to get revenge for their loss. The carnies did and paid dearly for it.
Power Parasite: In the current timeline, she gains power when her animated stuffed toys eat her foes.
Racial Transformation: Starts the story as a half human/half elf, is later transformed into a pure blooded elf, specifically, a dark elf unlike her mother.
Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes are scarlet, and pissing her off is not a good idea.
Silk Hiding Steel: Meek, elegant, cordial, but downright deadly when provoked.

Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Originally a sweet, blonde, happy little girl born of an illicit union between her mother and a duke, Shuria grows up in a remote village after the duke's legitimate wife throws her mother, expecting her, out of the family home. She takes up adventuring, and is quite skilled at it, due to her peerless magical talent. One day, her younger half-sister, Selena becomes ill with a fatal disease, but no matter how hard she works, she can't afford an elixir, the only known cure. Her older half-sister, Yumis turns up at the village, promising to provide the cure, if she'll turn over her superior magical talent. Having no other valid option, she agrees and spends three years locked up in a room, unable to leave, but sitting in the lap of luxury, provided with audio recordings proving that her friends and family are safe and sound. Upon the day the ritual to extract her magic is complete, and she's allowed to leave, Yumis takes her around town for a farewell "date." At the end of the date, she begins growing suspicious as Yumis doesn't take her to her home village, but instead a run-down shack. It is at this point that Yumis stops pretending and adopts her true personality, revealing that the entire village was fed to a demon to power the ritual to transfer her magic talent, her mother and younger sister greet her as undead corpses, the audiotapes were faked, and the same demon who killed her village was promised her own soul. She struggles valiantly in impotent rage, promising vengeance. Kaito rescues her, promises her the chance for revenge, and she happily takes it.
Yamato Nadeshiko: Subdued but present. She's very diligent, cordial, elegant, and refined in appearance and form, but beneath it all, she's a very wild and blithe spirit, and her anger is a sight that strikes terror in those who behold it.
You Remind Me of X: She reminds Kaito of himself when he was a completely innocent boy summoned by Princess Alesia, and her reaction to finding out Yumis's true intentions was eerily similar to his when his "companions" turned on him.

Big Sister Bully: Despite being the younger sister, she loves to "lovingly" torment and demean Kaito.
Defiled Forever: A non-rape example. This is how she feels after killing a "Transcender" cultist who tried to murder her, after having brutally murdered her best friend.
Driven to Madness: The Earth Big Bad deliberately destroyed all her social, emotional, and psychological support, so she'd go nuts. Kaito's return only served to make her even more unstable as the Big Bad exploited Mai's perfectly justified fear of abandonment to increase the pressure even higher.

I Reject Your Reality: By the time chapter 158 rolls around, she has been so cornered, emotionally, psychologically, and physically, that she tells herself Kaito couldn't have possibly walked in on her inflicting brutal vigilante justice on the [Transcendence Applicants] cult, because Kaito would hate her for it, so she attacks him as an impostor. He has to use the Sword of Vengeance to snap her out of it.
Living MacGuffin: She, along with all the other survivors of the Kaito summon event, are hunted by an isekai wannabe cult that honestly believes anyone who kills, captures, steals from, or otherwise violates the survivors of the mass disappearance known as the Kaito Summoning Event will somehow be summoned to another world upon their own deaths. These fanatics will not be deterred in any way, shape, or form, not even by killing them, until Mai and Yuuto manage to corner and trap them, and then when they are the ones suffering a Cruel and Unusual Death, suddenly they stop believing that isekai nonsense, and start pleading for their lives. Such pleas only make Mai and Yuuto even more vicious.
Minor Living Alone: With the rest of her close relatives missing or dead, she's stuck coasting along on her family inheritance, and school allowance. She has not had an easy time of it, especially once a certain cult starts stalking the survivors of Kaito's summoning event.
Sole Survivor: Of Kaito's entire Earth-bound family.
These Hands Have Killed: Her initial reaction when she was attacked by a "Transcender" nut-job who had just moments ago graphically murdered her friend, and fellow survivor, Miyuki, after she had a black out and woke up with his corpse at her feet, bloody knife in hand.
This Is Unforgivable!: She will never, ever forgive the "Transcenders" cult that murdered all her friends and family who weren't killed by Kaito's summon, and keep trying to kill her and Yuuto, thinking this will somehow whisk them away and make them "heroes" in another world.

Heterosexual Life-Partners: Especially after chapter 159.
I've Come Too Far: Realizes the fact that helping Mai in her quest for vengeance was making her psychologically unstable, but she was already too far gone for him to stop her by then.
The Lost Lenore: His girlfriend, Shiori, was turned into particles of light and killed when Kaito was summoned. Since There Are No Therapists, he never got over it.
Make an Example of Them: As he's preparing to deliver some vigilante justice on the [Transcendence Applicants] cult, he notices the film equipment they brought in, to film themselves using cyanide gas on an entire highschool full of innocent hostages. Although he doesn't say it aloud, his internal monologue proclaims that this video equipment would be useful to show the cultists being violated in the same exact manner that they violated others, so as to strongly dissuade any copy-cats.
Revenge by Proxy: Even though Lilia hasn't done anything to him, directly, he still has no issue torturing her, because she was an accomplice to the scheme to bring Kaito to the new world, resulting in the death of Shiori and the rise of the "Transcenders" cult and all the nastiness that came from that.

Antagonists

Common To All

Asshole Victim: Each of them is guilty of discrimination, enslavement, betrayal, or a combination of the three (usually all of the above and worse). Not only do they deserve the hell Kaito puts them through, if not worse, seeing them utterly broken and losing everything they care about is cathartic. That's how despicable they are.
Despair Event Horizon: Kaito's goal is to ensure that these villains suffer for all that they're worth by destroying everything they consider precious and finally kill them in a utterly humiliating, painful fashion. In the process, Kaito often deliberately offers up a Hope Spot to his targets in order to exacerbate their despair.
Hate Sink: They are clearly meant to be hated on either side of the fourth wall, even Lucia.
Moral Myopia: They care nothing for the injustice and suffering they inflict others, as long as they can reap the rewards for their own selfish pursuits. If others can be used to take the blame for their more obvious crimes, they do so without a shred of remorse. The moment their own hideous crimes are inflicted upon them by Kaito and his friends, these wretched villains have the gall to cry foul, portray themselves as innocent victims and declare Kaito's acts of vengeance to be monstrous, unjust crimes worthy of a demon lord!
Never My Fault: They're all pathological liars who enjoy blaming their greatest failures on others, especially those who try to help them. Even the actual demon from hell blames his inner nature for his unnecessary addiction to human souls.
Villain with Good Publicity: They are all completely insane and ruthless, but whether they are of royal blood and/or have the backing of the crown, are a combination of wealthy, famous, and charming, or are just plain unknown, they get the best possible publicity and PR, allowing them to automatically sway the country to their side as opposed to the mass-murdering anti-heroes. This is something Kaito is looking to undermine and destroy in the current timeline.

Beauty Is Bad: She may be physically attractive, but she is morally repulsive.
Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's great at pretending to care about her subjects and being a friendly face. In reality, she's utterly monstrous.
Breaking Speech: In the original timeline, she torments Kaito by telling him, in painstaking detail, precisely why returning to his old life on Earth is impossible. It gets her killed.
The Caligula: As a homicidal psychopath with horrible ideas for policies (like enslaving her own citizens for being poor), she is clearly not fit to rule the kingdom, period.
Cruel Mercy: In the original timeline, and in the current timeline, her idea of "benevolence" is letting Kaito be her country's "hero" and rake in the publicity and fame, only to yank it all away and issue a ludicrous bounty for his death headed by his former companions when he's no longer useful.
Did Not Think This Through:
- When her necklace that Kaito swiped in chapter 1 is returned to her, by a passing noble trying to curry favor with the crown, she never paused to check if it was genuine or had been tampered with. Say hello to some rather painful wounds reopening, and losing the ability to recognize names or faces, while being unable to remove the necklace again without having it destroyed.
- Also in the original timeline, she enjoyed mocking Kaito for using him as a proxy to murder 200 beastman slaves, 200 Earthlings who happened to be physically close to him, and 5 of his blood relatives, and then keeping it a secret while he was her knight for three years. Yet for some reason, despite wanting him to suffer, she told him this while he still had his arms and legs. Cue rage-fueled second wind murder to her face.
Dirty Coward: She is a massive bitch who looks down on non-human entities and seeks their extermination. The moment her life is in danger, she starts to panic with a fearful face and beg for mercy. When Kaito has his back turned to her, she attempts to burn him with a fireball only for him to make it backfire by kicking her in the stomach.
Enemy Mine: Much as she wants to kill the elven delegation to her kingdom, who she claims are directly responsible for the death of her elder sister, and the half-elf ambassador who is introduced greeting her in Lunaris's oracle chamber, she grudgingly works with the "monsters in human skin" because she considers Kaito's death a higher priority. Said ambassador is aware of this and loves to rub her face in it.
Entertainingly Wrong: In the first chapter, when Kaito rips off the back of her dress, she thinks he's going to rape her. He only wanted to use her back as a parchment to deliver a message to her, the King, and Queen who made his life hell in the original timeline.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Subverted. At first glance, it looks like she has fond memories of her deceased elder sister, and respects her parents, the yet to be named King and Queen. In reality, she only looked upon her elder sister with envy for the fact that she had a much better ability to be the oracle for "The Great Spirit" and sees her parents only as useful puppets for her own agency and rise to power. Otherwise only treating them with contempt as idiots who wouldn't know how to tie a shoelace without her "obvious genius."
Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: She's got a powerful air of "innocence and elegance" about her, but she's sadistic, sinister, and supremely racist to the core. It takes four years in the original timeline for Kaito to realize it, and he hates himself for it.
Fantastic Racism: Not only is she racist against all non "pure-blood" humans, she's so xenophobic, the pure-blooded humans from other worlds sicken her even more, to the point that in the original timeline, she swore, and carried out, bloody vengeance against Kaito for merely existing in her world, despite the fact that he was only there because she summoned him.
Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: As is revealed at the epilogue of the Grond Dot arc, her older sister was apparently murdered by elves, and whatever "oracles" she gleams from "The Great Spirit" are horribly garbled, after being able to commune only once a month, thus making her unable to get confirmation. This does not excuse or explain her genocidal hatred for all other non-human races, the fact that she sees those of other worlds, that she herself summons, as "monsters in human skin" even when they are 100% human, and why she wants so desperately to enact a horrific slavery policy on the vast majority of her 100% human subjects. Especially since she only had contempt for her family in the first place.
Hoist by His Own Petard: In the current timeline, she's burned in her mouth and throat with her own fireball that she tried to backstab Kaito with while he was fighting her "honor guard."
Just Between You and Me: In the original timeline, she uses a disposable pawn to lure a battered, beaten, and horribly fatigued Kaito into a Kaizo Trap, at which point she used an illusion spell to speak to him and gloat about how he was her Unwitting Pawn from the moment she summoned him, and how impossible it would be for him to go back to Earth, just for her owns sadistic pleasure.
Narcissist: Due to her psychopatic personality, she only cares for herself as her entitled attitude and sadism makes her a very self absorbed and depraved character.
A Nazi by Any Other Name: Just like Adolph, she genuinely believes that she has a divine mandate to exterminate all "lesser" beings (everyone with less than 100% human blood), and those from other worlds or countries, even if they're 100% human, purely for the repulsive "crime" of daring to exist in her multiverse.
Never My Fault: She utterly refuses to believe that her actions, both current and future, are responsible for Kaito's retribution or the kingdom's ruin. She just considers him a madman who can't be reasoned with.
Psychological Projection: In both the original and current timelines, she is quite fond of assigning her worst traits to Kaito while thinking herself innocent of them.
Pure Is Not Good: She is obsessed with racial purity, i.e. everyone who isn't 100% native-born human is a "monster" as far as she's concerned. She's also obsessed with national uniformity, i.e. waging war against anyone from another world, even if they are 100% human.
Red Baron: At least among the elven nation, she is known as "False Princess." She is not amused at this term.
Revenge Myopia: In addition to her swearing vengeance on Kaito because he sickened her through no fault of his own, in the current timeline, when he spells out that he knows exactly what she did to summon him, and what her actual plans for him were, she completely admits that his statements are true, but still has the gall to consider herself an innocent victim who deserves vengeance for what he put her through.
Right for the Wrong Reasons: While she is perfectly correct in thinking that her parents are lazy and think everything's okay as long as they aren't placed in immediate harm by their actions, this isn't the only reason they're reluctant to enact her more extreme policies and decisions.
Royal Brat: She's the crown princess, and her parents, the King and Queen, never tell her "no" to whatever she asks, no matter how heinous it is.
Royally Screwed Up: She's the crown princess, and is a complete psychopath.
Sadist: Loves seeing people suffer, especially Ukei as she says that she would let Ukei impregnate demihumans and then murder the newborns just for the thrill of it.
Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: In the original timeline, convinced of an irrevocable "divine mandate" that guaranteed her ascension to the throne, she has her parents, The King and Queen, draft a resolution that makes anyone under a certain, unidentified, level of income a criminal, to be seized as a "Crime Slave." Seeing that this is the majority of the kingdom's population, a revolt inevitably occurs. She then has the blame shifted to Kaito.
The Sociopath: She's completely incapable of feeling anything, except pleasure at the suffering of others, and rage when her pleasure is taken away, or she's made to endure any kind of discomfort.
Villainous Princess: She summons Kaito to her world as the hero who will defeat the Demon King. Once he does, she betrays him. She is also The Caligula who enslaves her citizens for being poor and persecutes non-humans.
Villains Want Mercy: When Kaito overpowers her in the second timeline and starts pummeling her, she starts pleading for mercy and not too long after when he tortures her by carving a message in her back, she pleads for him to stop. Neither plight is sincere however. When he heals her after making her swallow her own fireball, she flips out in anger over the beatings he gave her and when he finishes carving her back she gives a rant on how horrible a death she seeks to give him.
Villain with Good Publicity: Is the crown princess and is beloved by the public, though they are unaware of her evil nature and even believed her story about Ukei and the rest of his party to be the "Evil Adventuring Party".
Virtue Is Weakness: Her response to her parents' reluctance to go along with her more extreme desires is viewed by her as nothing more than simple laziness, honestly believing that as long as their lives are not at direct risk, everything's okay.
Would Hurt a Child: In the original timeline, when she has Kaito cornered, once she reveals the true price for summoning him to her kingdom, she taunts Kaito that if he's still desperate to go home, rather than stop annoying her by continuing to resist her Cruel Mercy, she'd be perfectly willing to let him impregnate some beast-man sex-slaves, just so she could murder the newborns... right in his face!

Lucia

I promise, I won't tell anyone, Minaris

The former childhood friend of Minaris.

All for Nothing: Lucia sold out her childhood friend (Minaris) as a beastman, so that she could keep Kirel (their other friend) whom she intended to marry all to herself. She spent the next ten years driving away any rivals and trying to win his affections. On what was supposed to be Lucia and Kirel's wedding day, Minaris returned and triggered a zombie apocalypse. In the middle of the fight, the vengeful rabbit girl revealed to the girl that betrayed her that she had not only already killed Kirel but destroyed his body, leaving behind no trace of his existence. Lucia could only scream in horror at the revelation that everything she had ever dreamed of had been taken away from her at the last second.
An Arm and a Leg: By the time Minaris is finished with her, Lucia has no arms, legs or eyes left. Minaris' magic soon takes care of the rest.
Believing Their Own Lies: She always believes that she's the actual victim when she does something horrible, and then turns the blame around back to the one she's victimizing. When the town of Kikkito is destroyed, and her attempts to resurrect Kirell only serve to resurrect some random schlub Minaris had disguised as Kirell instead, she finally begins to accept that her actions were monstrous, but it's too little, far, far too late to save her.
Children Are Cruel: While she initially is grateful that Minaris saved her life from an Ice Goblin in the forest, as the two of them were searching for food, the very next day, she not only outs Minaris as a Beast-man, but whips up an angry crowd by telling her other friends, parents, and anyone who will listen, that she knew Minaris was a Beast-man all along, but kept it secret only because Minaris threatened her with force, knowing Minaris and her family would be utterly destroyed, and smirked about it, while hiding behind said mob.
Clingy Jealous Girl: It's implied that she sold out Minaris to have their shared childhood friend for herself. Minaris at least thinks this is the reason why.
Deadly Gaze: As Minaris is watching Lucia through a crystal ball, she sees the latter use some kind of gaze-attack magic to either terrorize or kill any and all unwanted suitors to Kelir, the Childhood Friend Romance she's planning to marry.
Dirty Coward: After Minaris turned her village into zombies she breaks down and apologizes while also begging Minaris to spare her even after she betrayed Minaris and turned everyone against her. Minaris just brushes this off as she sees that this is sincere and revels in seeing Lucia's cowardice and death.
Entitled to Have You: To Kirel. There is no act of violence she'd overlook to make sure he marries her, and nobody else, both in the past, and in the present.
False Friend: When she befriends someone, she dotes on them, being unflinchingly sweet and kind, as long as they fit her narrative, or she finds them useful for her agency, and the doting is both sincere and genuine. However, everyone else should be considered extremely lucky if she simply views them with indifference. A friend that is no longer useful gets Released to Elsewhere.
Freak Out: Which comes at a particularly bad time. She and Minaris might have been able to sneak away from the Ice Goblin, who hadn't noticed them, if she kept her wits about her and walked back to the village quietly. Instead, she panics, shrieks, and gets the goblin's attention, too scared to run properly.
Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Lucia tries to justify herself in the last few moments of her life by saying that she did what she did simply because of her love for Kirel. Minaris understands what she is trying to say, due to her own feelings for Kaito, but points out that Lucia crossed a line and had no right to destroy two innocent peoples lives.
I Just Want to Be Loved: How she tried to justify herself to Minaris. The latter doesn't buy it.
Made Out to Be a Jerkass: Her favorite ploy to deal with rivals, former friends that are no longer of use, or anyone she doesn't like, is to do horrible things to them, and then make herself look like the victim. Then goes on to make herself believe it.
Murder the Hypotenuse: In chapter 130, she admits in her internal monologue, that she knows Minaris was sold off to slavers, not "shipped to another village", and is ecstatic that Minaris should have been killed by the experience, because she stopped seeing Minaris as a friend, and started seeing her as The Rival, the only one who had a legit chance of marring Kyrell other than herself.
Narcissist: Self-absorbed and egotistical, as she ratted out Minaris as a demi-human for her sick sadistic pleasure and because she wanted Kirel for herself without any remorse for what she did to Minaris. Even after Minaris returned to get revenge, Lucia still acts entitled and like she's the victim when she was the one who destroyed Minaris's life for no reason, thankfully her narcissistic attitude sickens Minaris to the point of making her suffer before she dies.
Stupid Evil: Knowing Minaris is a beast-man, living in a human supremacist village, is a powerful tool, with infinite potential for abuse and exploitation. She blows it all in one day, by outing her, slandering her, and smugly taunting her from behind an angry mob. This is despite the fact that the only reason Lucia knew in the first place is that Minaris had to reveal it to save her life.
Ungrateful Bitch: After Minaris revealed her demi-human nature to save her life, Lucia repays Minaris by outing her as a demi-human and telling everyone that she was evil out of spite. Thankfully 10 years later, she got what she deserved.
Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Lucia betrayed Minaris, who up until that point had been her best friend, by using the village's pre-existing hatred for Demi-humans. She did this with the full intention of having Minaris killed, in order to eliminate a rival to Kirel’s affection. In doing so, she unwittingly set things up so that Minaris would meet Keito. This not only sealed Lucia’s own fate but also condemned the rest of the village's bigoted residents to death at the hands of the vengeful Minaris, thus leading to the complete destruction of her former home.
Villains Want Mercy: When Minaris catches up to her, and turns the entire town of Kikkito into a Zombie Apocalypse, so that Lucia can see what it's like to be hunted by people who were once your friends and family, Lucia finally breaks down and apologizes. This does not save her, especially as Minaris lampshades how the apology is insincere.

The Merchant Slaver

The merchant who sold Millanis to Kaito.

Bullying a Dragon: He not only abused Minaris, he had all the other slaves in his storehouse abuse her too, even though beast-men like Minaris, are several times stronger than humans, to the point that if slavery magic wasn't involved, she could and would have easily killed them all, by accident, in retaliation.
Forced Transformation: He and the human slaves who abused Minaris were all converted into goblins, one limb at a time.
Honest John's Dealership: He sold Minaris to Kaito at the price of 10 gold coins, despite having starved her, almost to the point of death, and mistreated her, planning to throw her away.
Horror Hunger: Invoked. Minaris hits him with three poisons. The first inflicts him with unbearable hunger for the meals she cooked for him, and all the other slaves who abused her and her mother. These meals had two poisons. The first turns them into goblins. The second, gives goblins a Cruel and Unusual Death. Despite the fact that they knew the meal would kill them, their starvation-level hunger stripped away their reason, or their ability to stop eating, until they were all dead goblins, face down in their own spittle, bile, and leftovers.

Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When he sees Kaito pull out the Sword of Vengeance, and swear the oath of Unholy Matrimony with Minaris, he wisely listens to his instincts and did his best to get the hell outta dodge. Unfortunately for him, he simply could not run fast enough.
Stupid Evil: Despite knowing that certain nobles would have paid a high price for a beautiful beastman slave like Minaris or her mother, he abused them both, and allowed them to be abused by the other slaves, until Minaris's mother died, and Minaris herself became a Defiant Captive, full of hate for him and his entire race.
Terminal Transformation: When the food Minaris and Kaito forced him and the unbought slaves to eat turns them into goblins, it also turns out to be laced with a poison that kills goblins, this results in them dying via suffocation.

Brakas, Dot, and Terry

Three adventurers based in the town of Eminu.

The Alcoholic: The one thing they like more than money and rape is alcohol.
Forced to Watch: Kaito finds a way to keep them alive after they've been beheaded so they're forced to watch their own bodies being eaten by a slime. Considering what they were planning to do with Kaito and Minaris their fate is all the more karmic.
Mugging the Monster: After they force Kaito into a contest, they scheme to ambush him and play out their sick alcohol-induced rape fantasies on Minaris, touting Might Makes Right as their justification. Turns out Kaito and Minaris can swat them 3-1.
Never Found the Body: Every last bit of them, including their blood, is eaten by a slime, leaving no trace.
Only in It for the Money: They take up adventuring only because it pays well.
Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Originally, Kaito just wanted revenge on them for them selling him out in the original timeline. In the current timeline, it isn't very long before the three of them start plotting to Netorare Kaito by raping Minaris while he's pinned to the ground and Forced to Watch, then killing the both of them after she becomes a broken mess.
Serial Rapist: Provided it isn't just drunk bravado, the three of them boasted in a local tavern, where it was too noisy for the other patrons to hear, that their plan to ambush and rape Minaris wasn't their first foray into rape, and Brakas had a fondness for outright destroying women, sexually, and then killing them so they couldn't testify about it later, and letting the other two take their turns...

The Mage Adventurer

Some unnamed mage adventurer who roped Kaito and Minaris into his troubles and openly bragged, to their faces, about exploiting them...

Bullying a Dragon: He walks into the adventurer's guild, sees Brakas, Dot, and Terry, rejoicing regarding their rather difficult accomplishment in hunting an Aural Rabbit with a bit of booze, not bothering anyone, and yells at them, trying to provoke them into a fight.
Dumbass Has a Point: He may have been an entitled grade-A nitwit, but at least he realized that it's better to practice team coordination before a hunting exercise rather than afterward.
Glory Hound: He signed up to be an adventurer purely to spread his name among the masses, as he believes he is entitled to fame.
Hoist by His Own Petard: Invoked. Kaito asks Minaris to hit him with a poison designed to feed off his mana. Being a mage, his mana is very high, and the poison becomes more potent the higher someone's mana is. Minaris is all too happy to comply after this twit threatened her with "friendly fire."
Holier Than Thou: His most annoying character trait is thinking that he's The Paragon, and shouting at any adventurers who didn't match his "ideals." Yeah, he won't be missed.
Never Found the Body: Technically, his body is found, but it's so decomposed as to be unrecognizable.
No Name Given: His name is never mentioned, nor does Kaito even bother to learn what it is.
Right for the Wrong Reasons: He was right to call Brakas, Dot, and Terry scum that don't deserve to be adventurers, but not because they liked to drink booze before noon...
Small Name, Big Ego: He's a nameless rookie adventurer, out to make a name for himself, yet struts around as if he's already famous.
Too Dumb to Live: News-flash, the adventurer's guild exists as a magnet for people with checkered pasts as their last refuge for an honest living. Provoking them is not conducive to your long-term health. What's worse, if you drag a couple of them into your woes to be your meat-shields, don't announce it to their faces, and even if you believe one of them is a "throw-away" noble, don't go threatening his slave with harm! Slaves tend to be expensive and angry!

Curtains Match the Windows: Her hair and eyes are the same shade of green, in the current timeline. In the original timeline, her eyes were scarlet, after she started traveling with Kaito...
Deal with the Devil: She signs a contract with a demon to sacrifice an entire village worth of souls in exchange for stealing some magical power and talent.
Did Not Think This Through: Sure, perhaps her Deal with the Devil required the sacrifice of a certain village, but leaving the corpses unattended to fester in their malice and arise as undead is bound to come back to bite her. In the original timeline, Kaito was able and willing to help her clean up her mess and save her home town, due to being ignorant of her being at fault. In the current timeline, Kaito still saves the academic city of Erminu, but her reputation... is another story.
Entitled Bitch: The moment she learns someone is more talented than she is, she immediately thinks this talent is hers by birthright, and will do anything to seize it for herself, damn the consequences, literally.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones: There is one person she actually sees as a person, and treats with respect, her favorite maid and lover, Sori. She has some respect for her parents, seeing as she wants them to bless her union with Sori, but otherwise treats them with contempt.
Exact Words: She promises Shiura a return to her mother and younger sister when the 3-year ritual to completely extract her magic is complete. This reunion takes the form of meeting their undead corpses, and then having her soul consumed by a demon.
Faux Affably Evil: She speaks in polite words, phrases, and body-language, but she's utterly despicable and holds everyone, save a handful of others, in contempt.
For Science!: All the horrible things she does is purely for the sake of advancement in creating Magic tools. Nothing else matters, save her love for Soris.
Framing the Guilty Party: Kaito makes her see how it feels to have your name dragged through the mud by framing her for performing illegal human and undead experiments in the name of her magic tool research. In her case though, she's actually guilty of the crimes she's framed for.
Glory Seeker: She wants her name carved on the city monument, for the honor of crafting a magical tool so wonderful it's acknowledged by the Great Spirit. Anything and everything that aligns with that goal is fair game.
Hoist by His Own Petard: Combined with Laser-Guided Karma. Her own sins, methods, tools, and abilities are what completely takes her down, undoes her life's work, dooms the one person she cares about, and destroys her family and reputation, forever.
Humans Are Insects: Despite being human herself, everyone, aside from Soris, is nothing more than a bug, lowly worm, or trash, to her.
Human Resources: The best she sees of people, save Soris, is as ingredients in her magical research.
I Lied: She has no objections to ignoring her end of a bargain that she never intends to keep.
Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: She meets her end being stabbed, repeatedly, through the chest.
Lack of Empathy: If your name is not Sori, she doesn't give a crap about your well being. In fact, her servants are briefly shown to be abjectly terrified of offending her in any way, for fear of becoming her next "test subjects."
A Lighter Shade of Black: Heavily downplayed, as she commits unspeakable acts with sadistic glee and doesn't even feel remorse when she learns of what happened in the original timeline, but her sincere love for Sori is just barely enough to keep her from being an utter monster, unlike most of the series' villains. She's even willing to beg shamelessly on Sori's behalf, which is further proof that her love for the maid is completely genuine.
Love Makes You Evil: Being a Psycho Lesbian, she took her maid, Sori, as a lover, and would go to any lengths to have a marriage to the latter acknowledged by her parents, rather than being subjected to an Arranged Marriage, so the family could have a legitimate heir. To that end, she latched on to her father's promise to grant any wish if she could get her name etched onto the statue of "The Great Spirit" by providing a sufficiently special Magic Tool, and went full tilt Mad Scientist.
Mad Scientist: Completely unhinged. Things like ethics, morality, empathy, and sympathy are all just hindrances in her research.
Master Actor: And how. Not only was she able to fool Kaito for four years in the original timeline, she fooled her entire family, and the academic city of Erminu, all her life.
Power Parasite: She never earned her magical talent, power, or position. She stole it, every last bit of it. This eventually comes back to haunt her.
Psycho Lesbian: Emphasis on "psycho."
Revenge Myopia: Despite knowing full well what Kaito went through, after he forced the memories of the torment she put him through in the original timeline into her head, she still considered herself "righteous" for wanting revenge on him for ruining her plans... until her lover went "pop" right in her face, and she understood what that feels like. At that point, she gave up all resistance and was gratifyingly stabbed through the chest repeatedly until she died.

The Demon

A "rogue" demon Yumis sold Shiura's village to, so it could fuel the ritual to steal Shiura's powers.

An Arm and a Leg: The first indication it has that it's in trouble is that when Kaito slices off the arm it was using to grab Shiura, the arm doesn't grow back...
Cluster F-Bomb: When it finds itself on the losing end of a Curbstomp Battle with Kaito, and it starts being Eaten Alive by Shiura's puppets, it responds with loud strings of profanity.
Deal with the Devil: It's the devil Yumis made the deal with.
Eaten Alive: Combined with Karmic Death. It made a sport of eating the souls of the innocent. Shiura shows it how that feels when her puppets tear into him...
Fantastic Racism: Views itself as superior to everyone and everything, on every point, without exception. It's wrong on all counts.
Healing Factor: Since it's a being made of a clump of pure mana, without special tools, it will regenerate from any damage done to it, even pulling its severed arms back to its body. Unfortunately for it, Kaito had the right tools...
I Am a Humanitarian: It eats souls, for fun.
Insistent Terminology: It's a demon, not a spirit, despite the fact that demons are a sub-species of spirit.
Made of Evil: It is a clump of mana borne of the grudges, lusts, vices, and sins from a large number of sentients.

Screw This, I'm Outta Here: It tries to flee when it realizes it can't win a fight with Kaito and Shiura, but it's a bit too late, as it arrogantly threw away the chance when Kaito offered to let it go.
Villains Want Mercy: Once Shiura starts tearing it apart, and it realizes it can't recover, it starts begging for its life. When refused, it responds with one Cluster F-Bomb after another.

Sori

Yumis's favorite maid and lover.

Crazy Jealous Guy: Gender-Inverted and emphasis on crazy. She had the gall to be jealous of every second Yumis doted on Shiura, despite knowing it was all just an act.
Hoist by His Own Petard: The very stuffed animals she crafted to appease Shiura and keep her passive in her Gilded Cage are what takes her down.
Ludicrous Gibs: Invoked and combined with Action Bomb. She's made to pop like a balloon, right in Yumis's face.
Meido: She was Yumis's maid.
My Master, Right or Wrong: Completely devoted to Yumis, despite being well aware and complicit in what Yumis was doing.
Revenge by Proxy: A victim of it. Normally, this would be a bad thing, except she was wholly complicit in the despicable behavior of her lover, to whom the revenge was directed.

Meteria Laurelia —The Saintess

The representative of the church of the Great Spirit.

Brainwashed and Crazy: Chapter 141 reveals that her mad obsession with Kaito is not her own. Lunaris, "The Great Spirit", overwrote her soul so she complies with whatever Lunaris's agenda is.
Did Not Think This Through: In her mad, impatient dash to reunite with Kaito, she never thought to put together a proper cover story to explain how she knew he had been summoned, or what he looked like, or even how to introduce herself to him when she arrived, since she expected him to have no memory of the four years they spent together in the previous timeline. It very quickly jumps up to bite her.
Easy Amnesia: When she catches up to Kaito in chapter 138, she not only captures and poisons him, she forcefully hurls him back to Earth, erasing his entire memory of the Isekai experience in the process, so she can later summon the "pure" Kaito again.
Engineered Heroics: In chapter 145, she's shown rescuing a village from genocidal, fanatically racist "magical beasts." Said village was in danger because Meteria lured those "magical beasts" there to use as fuel to whisk Kaito back to Earth and then re-summon him, to "reset" and "purify" him back to the Naïve Newcomer she's fond of.
Entitled to Have You: To Kaito. She honestly believes that she's his love interest and that he would fall madly in love with her if there were no other "companions" and she gets to be alone with him 24/7.
I Did What I Had to Do: She sees the killing of Kaito in the original timeline this way. She simply could not think of a way to free him from Princess Alesia's Frame-Up without using Lunaris's Cosmic Retcon. In fact, she's overjoyed that Kaito's hunting down the rest of his so-called companions that used him as The Scapegoat in the original timeline.
Light Is Not Good: She wields holy magic, and is one of the people who framed Kaito, put a bounty on his head, and hunted him down like an animal.
Mad Love: She's convinced that the best way to win Kaito's heart is to have him brutally killed, to "purify" his soul, and then grabbing him immediately after the summoning ritual that summoned him to this new world is completed.
Moral Myopia: She hates Leticia for supposedly "tainting" Kaito's soul by casting magics to restrain and collar him, despite having absolutely no evidence of it. Yet chapter 108 reveals that she herself did indeed cast curses on Kaito's soul that even the Cosmic Retcon didn't undo where if he uses his most powerful swords that contain aspects of his personality, the backlash leaves him grievously wounded, and there's nothing that can be done until the magic dissipates on its own.
Motherly Side Plait: Played with. On the one hand, she is great with children, as is shown in a flashback where Kaito was happily visiting his favorite orphanage in Darca. On the other hand, she's a sick yandere who thinks the best way to get the man she "loves" interested in her is to have him brutally hunted down like an animal, stabbed repeatedly in the chest, and then brought back to life...
Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Hurling Kaito back to Earth, against his will, with a bit of amnesia, completely wrecks the machinations of an insane, murderous cult, and the corrupt politicians, cops, and reporters who support them.
Obliviously Evil: She truly has no idea why putting a bounty on Kaito and hunting him down like an animal is a bad thing.
Pure Is Not Good: She's absolutely smitten with the Naïve Newcomer Kaito used to be before the Cosmic Retcon, and will do anything she has to in order to make him that way again, no matter how heinous it is.
Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: She's somehow aware of the events of the previous timeline despite the fact that Kaito's the one who was going through "Tutorial Mode" and was specifically determined by the God of Earth to have an idea of what happened.
Tyrant Takes the Helm: Using the memories she carried over from the original timeline, she took over the Church of the Great Spirit for her own agency.
Unwitting Pawn: In the original timeline, she was loathe to follow Lunaris's dictates because she had strong suspicions regarding Kaito's ultimate fate if she did, but drawing her powers, that she and Kaito needed to live, from Lunaris, she had no viable alternative. One Cosmic Retcon later, and Lunaris let her keep the memories of the previous timeline... by overwriting her soul.
The Victim Must Be Confused: She believes that the only reason Kaito would have any romantic attraction to Leticia, the Demon Lord, is that she's put some kind of magical curse upon his soul. So she "reluctantly" goes along with the plot of Alicia's "chosen companions" to corner Kaito and kill him, "to purify his soul" and send him back in time four years. The first thing she does when she arrives in Alicia's palace and hears that Kaito has fled Alicia's "benevolence," is fly into a rage yelling "LETICIA!" believing that the demon lord has somehow enchanted him already, and she, The Pope, has arrived too late.
Wrong Genre Savvy: She thinks she's in a story with a "Groundhog Day" Loop. She's unaware that the memories of the past run-through were carried over by Kaito.
Yandere: Deconstructed. Her obsession with Kaito, helping to frame and hunt him down, so she could kill him, to reclaim him upon the Cosmic Retcon, has earned her nothing but his undying hatred.

Grond—The Merchant

The primary antagonist of the Grond Dot arc.

Abusive Parents: While his mother is not mentioned, his father was of the emotionally abusive variety, providing no paternal affection, and drilling into his head that money is all that matters.
Aesop Amnesia: In chapter 98 of the novel, he pointedly goes back to thinking money is power, despite being chased out of town because all the surrounding merchants strongly believe he steals back the money he spends with them.
And I Must Scream: Kaito eventually gets sick of his self-centered and self-righteous whining promises of revenge, so magically turns his vocal cords to metal before finishing him off.
Bad Boss: His first action, on screen, is stabbing an employee to death with the very sword the employee presented to him, as he was ordered to.
Berserk Button: Anything that lowers his profits will send him into an Unstoppable Rage, even if he knows it's entirely irrational.
Corrupt Corporate Executive: In the original timeline, he happily sided with Princess Alesia's smear campaign against Kaito, so he could keep a monopoly on the tech upgrades Kaito provided him. In the current timeline, there's no crime he'd overlook if he could profit, including Scarpia Ultimatum on a deceased adventurer's widow...
Did Not Think This Through: Which he lampshades. He has to hire his pet assassin, Nonorik, and lose even more money, because he killed the employee who brought him a forged magic sword, without questioning the employee first.
Fantastic Drug: The aptly named "Quick Growth Drug." Designed by Kaito to be used in the disposal of cursed weapons and hexes, Grond instead fed it to orphans to boost their inherent abilities and use them as child soldiers. The downside is that this method is both highly addictive and ultimately fatal, with no remedy.
Feeling Oppressed by Their Existence: The reason he turned Kaito's favorite orphans into mindless crazed killers that would explode like bloody balloons even if Kaito managed to disarm and defeat them without killing them? Kaito's very existence was a complete anathema to Grond's "religion" that money is a god which can do anything and everything, and expects to be hoarded for one's own gain, not given freely to help others. The fact that Kaito could not be bribed, bought, or manipulated with money alone drove him crazy, so he laughed like a loon while watching Kaito driven mad with grief and rage over the deaths of countless innocent children.
Forced Transformation: Since he was so fond of the "religion" that money is the most important thing in the world, Kaito turns him into a metal statue, then kills him.
Framing the Guilty Party: For a lesser crime. Grond's "black market" activity is atrocious, funding The Slugs gang and dealing in Fantastic Drug, building an orphanage to use as a horrific Child Soldier Super-Soldier program, and engaging in all forms of extortion, rape, and murder. Yet Kaito destroys him by making him look like a petty crook through framing him for the theft of the money he paid other merchants.
Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Sure, his father may have never showed him any affection, and yes, he was taught from a young age that money is the most, and only, important thing in the world, but none of this explains or excuses thinking it's the highest form of entertainment to watch, from a remote location, a bunch of innocent, helpless orphans literally exploding in the face of a guy whose only "crime" was being summoned into the world against his will wanting to go home... and seeing said guy retaliate on the employees in charge of said fiasco.
The Fundamentalist: For the family "religion" of viewing money as a god. He honestly believes that there's nothing money can't do, and if he hears somebody mention that there are some thing money can't buy, he will go out of his way to deliver Disproportionate Retribution on the poor sod, and a Cruel and Unusual Death... and he truly can't comprehend why he'd be a target of vengeance.
Hit Them in the Pocketbook: He believes that money is the most important thing in the world, so Kaito forces him to choose between his money and his life.
Karmic Death: He spent his whole life crushing people by taking away their money by all means fair and foul, and then laughing as their lives are destroyed. Kaito gives him a Sadistic Choice to save his money or his life, and then when he chooses to live, destroys the money in front of him, and ignores his pleas, throwing his own mantra back at him that a man with no money has no value, before killing him.
Lack of Empathy: He sees everybody, including himself, as nothing more than just walking, talking bags of money, though he sees women as nothing more than sex-toys too. If he believes you're no longer of any use to him, he will turn on, discard, and abuse you.
Grond:"Dear hero, everyone has a value. As of now, the value in keeping you alive is zero."
Like Father, Like Son: The one who taught him money is all that matters? His own father, who also provided him no parental affection.
Money Is Not Power: Which he learns to his horror, as a result of Kaito. He lived his whole life believing that money is the only thing of importance in the world, but when all the merchants in town refuse to take your money because they fear you'll just steal it back later, even if you have all the money in the world, it does you no good.
My God, What Have I Done?: His final conscious thought is dread at the new Demon Lord he and his co-conspirators "created" by their rampant abuse upon Kaito.
Only in It for the Money: All he cares about is profit, period.
Pragmatic Villainy: He won't do any villainous acts with a high degree of risk, treats Nonorik with a certain modicum of respect, due to the latter's talent, and fear of reprisal, and puts forward a good front of being a respectable businessman, but he's rotten to the core, and abuses everyone he thinks beneath him.
Revenge Myopia: He's done a great deal of despicable things to his fellow merchants, the Frame-Up for stealing from their coffers was just the last straw. Despite that, he seeks retribution for the fact that he's chased out of town when they get fed up with him.
Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: He originally wanted to use slaves for his Super-Soldier program until Fegner convinced him to use children in an orphanage instead, claiming it would be cheaper and more profitable.
Straight Edge Evil: He doesn't smoke, drink to excess, or partake of prostitutes, but only because this would hurt his wallet.
Unstoppable Rage: The moment his Berserk Button is pressed, he will lash out, with absolutely no self-control, even going and beating up on a dead body, that he killed himself.
Would Hurt a Child: As is revealed in a flashback, in the original timeline, he turned the orphanage that was Kaito's favorite rest-stop into a sea of blood, using Kaito's own modern tech that he shared. This was Kaito's Start of Darkness and yet another Frame-Up.

Axe-Crazy: When goes into battle, he attacks wildly with frantic glee, laughing like a loon and splashing blood everywhere, though he does spare non-combatants, if he's not paid to go after them.
Black Eyes of Evil: His eyes are described as becoming solid black when he's in the thickest throes of his murderous blood-lust.
Blue-and-Orange Morality: He does have a moral compass, but it's entirely bizarre. Bumping into him in the middle of a crowded street merits death threats, but he won't carry them out if you're not foolish enough to rise to the bait. He honestly considers himself "an innocent little girl," but goes into dark alleys purely in the hopes that muggers go after him, so he can splash their blood and entrails all over the walls, not to mention the fact that his speech is very rude, vulgar, and deliberately provocative. He sees slaves in his possession as "toys" to torture, and sexually abuse until they break, but does not see the general population the same way. To top it off, he won't go after people who don't draw blades on him, unless he's specifically hired to do so, and responds to insults like a pouty little kid would.
Curtains Match the Windows: Yellow hair and eyes.
Depraved Homosexual: He's completely Camp Gay and is fond of sexually torturing men to death, especially slaves his employer Grond gives him as "rewards."

Freudian Excuse: A journal Kaito reads in the original timeline shows that he is one of the very first children subjected to Grond's Super-Soldier program, and was driven insane by the local Fantastic Drug.
Gone Horribly Right: He is the first, and only, survivor of the Grond Trading Company Super-Soldier program, is a very highly skilled and powerful combatant, but is utterly batshit insane, uncontrollable, violent, and there's absolutely no hope of recovery or a normal life for him.
Hazy-Feel Turn: When he returns to the story, he's working as Leticia's hired bodyguard. The depth of his loyalty remains unknown.

Our Vampires Are Different: Until it's spelled out in chapter 105, there's absolutely no indication in the narrative that he's a vampire. He doesn't even have fangs or drink blood on-screen.

Resurrective Immortality: Think killing him is hard? Try keeping him dead.
Torture for Fun and Information: He enjoys torture so much, he actually views getting torture tools as a reward.
Tragic Monster: Nonorik never asked to become an Axe-Crazy Blood Knight Psychopathic Manchild who gets off on the Interplay of Sex and Violence. He was forced into it by Fegner Leelit, as even Fegner himself admits.
"It would bear no meaning if they were to break like Master Nonorik on a completely uncontrollable level."
Yandere: Once he fixates on you as a sex-partner, willing or otherwise, he will not stop hunting you down until he slaps you into a collar and completely breaks you. Killing him will just have him become more determined to completely dominate you as his possession.
Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: Yellow eyes, and completely untrustworthy.

Fegner Leelit

Grond's butler.

Affably Evil: He is impeccably polite and well-mannered, but he is entirely complicit with Grond's villainous schemes, and is completely unrepentant, thinking he's done nothing wrong.
Battle Butler: Before becoming a butler for the Grond household, starting with Grond's father, he was a powerful war-veteran. His skills have not dulled.
Blow You Away: He can use wind magic.
Child Hater: For unexplained reasons, he loathes children to the core. This is the primary reason he convinces Grond to use orphans as test subjects in a Super-Soldier program based on dangerous, and highly addictive drugs, with no known remedy.
Condescending Compassion: Combined with Unwanted Assistance. When Minaris is being hounded by a drunk who pointedly refuses to leave her alone, constantly trying to put his hand down her pants, Fegner intervenes, unprompted, scares off the drunk, and then spouts a bunch of idealistic bullshit, insulting her desire for vengeance against the horrors she's endured, despite not knowing anything about what she's been through. This immediately puts him at the top of her "shit list."
The Corrupter: While it's uncertain how much of Grond's despicable personality can be attributed to Fegner, chapter 98 of the novel makes it clear that Grond is a worse person thanks to Fegner's influence upon him.
Desperately Seeking A Purpose In Life: The reason he was so loyal to Grond's Trading Association? He wanted to have some meaning in life.
Did Not See That Coming: As a result of Outside-Context Problem. Despite gathering all sorts of anti-poison methods and techniques, he pointedly refused to believe such a thing as toxic metals exist, as is the norm in his world. So he's laid low by mercury poisoning.
Did Not Think This Through: In his haste to head towards Kaito's party, he doesn't stop to secure the money Grond gave him to help "smooth over" the problems Grond is having with the other local merchants. Not only does this cause the money to fall into the hands of Kaito's party, but knowing that Grond is a Bad Boss, he won't hesitate to see Fegner as a traitor who ran off with the money for failing to return.
Due to the Dead: As he lays on the ground, dying, Minaris offers a sincere prayer for him... to suffer horribly in the afterlife for all the people he made suffer for his own convenience.
Dual Wielding: Chapter 94 of the light novel reveals that he wields twin estoc.
Evil Virtues: Loyalty
Foil: To the main characters. Whereas the main characters find vengeance upon their foes very gratifying, he once carried out vengeance against his brother for some unspecified wrong, and found himself an empty shell afterward.
Friend to All Children: Inverted. He hates children for no explained reason, to the point that he thinks feeding them dangerous drugs, that shorten their lifespans and ultimately result in Cruel and Unusual Death is a "reward" and trying to run away from him merits even harsher "discipline."
I've Come Too Far: He is offered an "out" repeatedly by numerous merchants and other characters, before his final confrontation with the main characters, but he turns them all down, thinking that if he doesn't succeed in bringing the Grond Trading Company to supremacy, then not only is his life meaningless, all his Dirty Business would have been for nothing.
Karmic Death: He spent decades poisoning little kids with extremely dangerous and addictive drugs, which ultimately cause them to die, painfully, by vomiting blood. He dies to mercury poisoning, violently vomiting his blood.
Magic Knight: Fights with estocs and wind magic.
Psychological Projection: He tries to claim Minaris and Shuria are not that different because they live for vengeance. Minaris calls him out on it by pointing out that they don't pretend to be nice people while attacking innocents and don't see themselves as good people while doing evil things.

The Resenter: In chapter 96, we learn that his "revenge" against his elder brother was simply that he resented the other guy being born "a little bit earlier" and thus being the one to inherit the family estate. His elder brother apparently never actually did anything to him, at all.
Retired Badass: From war-veteran to butler.
Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: He ran an "orphanage" as a breeding ground for combat-slaves, either for private duels or for use as shock troops, for whatever country, army, or mercenary group was the highest bidder.
Tampering with Food and Drink: The method used to feed drugs to children in the Grond Trading Company's Super-Soldier program involves putting a mix of dangerous and addictive drugs in the children's food, without their knowledge, and punishing any and all forms of disobedience by withholding said food, until starvation forces compliance. All purely to boost their combat abilities to ridiculous levels in exchange for greatly shortening their lifespans, either to showcase in gladiatorial duels for the amusement of crime-lords, or selling them off as combat-slaves.
Tautological Templar: He turns a blind eye to Grond's villainy, and his participation in it, because he believes his master's dying wish, making the company Grond Dot as big and influential as possible, is a truly noble goal, so everything Grond does in pursuit of that goal is inevitably noble and just, regardless of who it hurts. He pointedly refuses to believe that Grond acts only in regards to his own greed and has no noble goal in his entire being.
Tears of Remorse: His final conscious act is crying in remorse, not because he regrets what he's done, but because when it's pointed out to him that Grond would consider his failure to return as "treason," once again, it would mean his life has had no meaning.
Tough Love: In the original timeline, Kaito reads a journal entry where Fegner notes children trying to escape the hell he's putting them through, and Fegner simply can not understand it, thinking he's doing them a favor by "giving meaning to their lives." Which is what he cares about most for his own life.
Vengeance Feels Empty: Unlike the main characters, when he succeeded in carrying out his vengeance, his life lost all meaning, until Grond's father found him, and gave him something to live for, as the family butler.
Villainous Breakdown: He loses his composure, badly, as he fights Minaris and Shiura, not being able to land a blow on either of them, and completely loses it as he lies on the ground, dying, when the mercury poison in his system completes its work.
Virtue Is Weakness: In the original timeline, Fegner would happily ask for donations from Kaito to help run the "orphanage," but as soon as Kaito was out of sight and hearing, would openly mock him for it, even going so far as to write it in his journal of the Super-Soldier program.
We Have Reserves: A journal entry reveals that even when over half of the children in his care die, he's completely unconcerned, stating that there's plenty more where they came from.
Would Hurt a Child: A journal Kaito read in the original timeline strongly indicates that he isn't just complicit in the horrific Child Soldier program, disguised as an orphanage, run by the Grond Dot Trading Company, he actually ran it, and if the children dared to object, run away, or fail to "produce results," the consequences were not pretty. In fact, the diary entries show the use of the drugs were his idea of a "carrot" in the "carrot and stick" approach.
- Chapter 98 of the light novel reveals that he didn't just run the so-called orphanage on Grond's orders, it was his idea to implement it, and he sweet-talked Grond into it.
You Remind Me of X: Minaris hates him to the core because his personality is a perfect reflection of her own father's, a man who puts forward a brave and noble front, happily spouting a bunch of idealistic bullshit, which he seemingly believes, but is actually an evil scumbag who thinks he's doing nothing wrong.

The Carnies

A trio of "peddlers" that ran a rigged blow-dart contest at the local fair in the town of Carmine.

Cheaters Never Prosper: They rigged a dart-board with magic runes to throw off the blow-darts that managed to make it through the pinholes to the other side so contestants could never claim the prize. When it came Minaris's turn, her magic outright negated this spell, thus allowing her to claim the prize legitimately.
Cruel and Unusual Death: After freezing them in ice up to their heads, Minaris pours a poison into the resulting bowl where their head lies, puts a lid on them, and watches them be digested, to the point that what's left of their remains is simply sucked into the ground, leaving no trace.
Dumb Muscle: To the point that the one who ran the dart contest could speak in entire sentences. The other two could only parrot him.
"We'll forgive you for 'cheating' if you join me for some tea."
"Hehe, yea, yeah. Tea, tea!"
From Bad to Worse: Self-Inflicted Hell. They chase down Minaris to a deserted alley, at which point, she might have let them go with a beating if she was the only one threatened. Then they threaten to go after Shiura and the little girl who was given the potion to cure her ailing mother. At this point, Minaris was willing to give them a quick and painless death. Then they threaten to sell Minaris, Shiura, the little girl, and her mother all into slavery. Once they did that, Minaris decided death was too good for them, and no matter how they pleaded or begged, she was going to make them suffer. The result was not pretty.
Harmless Freezing: Only in the sense that being turned into statues of ice except for their heads is not what killed them.
Honest John's Dealership: They run a booth where if you can get a blow-dart through a tiny hole in a dart-board and hit the target on the other side, you win a prize. The dart-board is rigged with a spell to blow the darts off-course.
Hope Spot: When the ice that is freezing their bodies stops at their heads, they breathe a sigh of relief, thinking that Minaris heeded their pleas and decided to spare them. Then their terror is renewed when Minaris tells them that she intends to utterly destroy any trace of their existence, leaving no corpse behind.
Moral Myopia: It takes some serious chutzpah to angrily accuse someone of cheating your game, when your game is rigged against them, and you know it.
Mugging the Monster: They attack Minaris three to one in an alley, carrying weapons, with the two "guards" each being twice her size. She took them down with ridiculous ease.
No Body Left Behind: What remains of them is sucked into the ground, leaving no trace.
No Name Given: They never bothered to say their names, now we'll never know.
Tampering with Food and Drink: Implied. They twice offer Minaris "tea" in return for a favor, either playing the game for one free round, or "forgiving her for stealing the prizes" she rightly won. When Minaris turns them down, that's when they truly get angry.
This Cannot Be!: When Minaris actually manages to use their provided blow-dart to hit the prizes, the operator blurts out "That's supposed to be impossible" before he catches himself.
Villains Want Mercy: The moment Minaris starts to trap them in ice, they begin pleading, begging, and offering repentance for their sins. Minaris is not only unmoved, she throws their own threats right back at them, before she makes them "disappear."
We Hardly Knew Ye: Show up and die in the same chapter.
You Remind Me of X: Combined with Trauma Button for Shiura. The way they offered a healing potion to a little girl who needed it for her sick mother hits way too close to home for Shiura, who suffered a similar fate under Yumis, so Shiura offers to "do something about it" until Minaris steps forward with a "better idea."

Kirel

Minaris's other Childhood Friend alongside Lucia.

Black-and-White Insanity: It isn't just a matter of only being able to see the world in absolutes of good and evil. He believes "evil" is something that can be cured, like an illness, if someone is forced to "atone for his or her mistakes," even if that happens to be the "mistake" of being born a supposedly Always Chaotic Evil race, like beastmen...
Cruel Mercy: On the receiving end. As the vengeful ghosts Minaris summoned go after him, she keeps feeding him healing potions so that the wounds don't kill him, just to prolong his suffering. And that's just the opening act of what she's got planned for him and Lucia, for destroying her life, and the murder of her mother.
Dirty Coward: When he sees that Minaris killed her father and stepmother, he immediately shows fear in his face as he just goes on saying Minaris really is evil before she curses him to die a slow painful death begging it to stop and let him live.
Fatal Flaw: Naivete and self-righteousness. He believes whatever is presented to him at face value without doing any independent investigation. This was excusable when he was 7. In the present? It pisses Minaris off more than anything, even though the recording she shows him of Lucia's rotten behavior happens to be accurate.
Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: More like self-righteous can't comprehend not-self-righteous. He can't comprehend why Minaris is enraged beyond reason at his Stupid Good naivete that got her sent into slavery, and the fact that he genuinely believes the day that Minaris and her mother were stoned and chased out of their home village by an angry mob that some other nearby village happily took them in, rather than Millanis and her mother winding up in a slaver's "tender mercy."
Heroic Wannabe: His entire life, he loved the fairy tales that showcased an Ideal Hero and wanted to be like them. He never developed the critical thinking needed to investigate anything that didn't fit into Black-and-White Morality.
Horrible Judge of Character: Because of his naviety, he can't even see that Lucia was lying about Minaris being evil and bullying her. Later even after seeing the result of what the torture and slavery did to Minaris he still refuses to face reality that he made a huge mistake on distrusting Minaris which is what gets him killed in the end.
Hypocrite: For someone who keeps saying that evil can be "reformed" and always do heroic deeds, none of his actions match his words as he stoned at Minaris and believed she was evil with no evidence or investigation and doesn't help anyone who needs help as well as discriminating against Minaris just for being a demi-human, Minaris calls him out on his hypocrisy before she tortures and kills him.
Innocent Bigot: He bought the lie that "beastmen" are inherently evil from the rest of his village, without any investigation, the moment Minaris was outed, and thought this could somehow be "cured" by her being shipped off to some other village.
I Reject Your Reality: Combined with This Cannot Be!. His last moments are spent screaming that it's All Just a Dream because he's done nothing wrong then he gets Eaten Alive.
Karmic Death: While he didn't have any malice, he was a naive idiot who just believed whatever he was told without evidence and condemned Minaris when told that she was a bully. In revenge, Minaris has him slowly and brutally tortured to death by undead that have been manipulated into thinking everything wrong in their lives is his fault.
Locked Out of the Loop: He's apparently the only one from Minaris's home village that honestly believed she and her mother went to some other village, rather than being sold into brutal slavery.
Misplaced Retribution: Invoked. Minaris has him attacked by vengeful ghosts, telling said ghosts that he's the source of their suffering, just so he learns how she and her mother felt, being used as "venting" tools by the slaver and fellow slaves they were locked up with. Even when Minaris spells it out, and explains that's how her mother died, he still can't comprehend it.
Secret Test of Character: Result—> Epic Fail. Minaris wasn't even plausible! And even after what's outlined below, he is utterly confused and confounded why Minaris blows her stack and rips into him with the Misplaced Retribution and Cruel Mercy entries! Even the audience comments fully agree that she's right to try and beat the idiocy out of him, they just find it boring if all she does is wail away at him until she runs out of healing potions.
- Minaris breaks into his room, while he's present, and says she's with the Imperial Army. He takes takes this at face value, without asking for credentials in any way.
- Minaris serves him a meal, and he knows she specializes in poison magic, so he eats it, happily, despite believing she deserved to be chased out of her home village for "bullying" that he never witnessed, nor had evidence of.
- Minaris presents him a recording of Lucia, the girl he's going to marry the next day, engaging in despicable actions, and he believes it, at face value without verifying the accuracy or veracity of the recording in any way, even though he easily has the means to do so.
- Then he states, aloud, that Minaris came to him for help in getting Lucia to "atone" for what she's done wrong, despite not verifying that Lucia's actually guilty of what she's accused.
Selective Obliviousness: Even when Lucia performs her villainy right next to him, he just can't see it, unless someone records it and shows it to him, and even then, he still thinks he can make her "atone" and change her ways, with little to no effort.
Sickening Sweethearts: Entirely one-sided. He believes that's the relationship he has with Lucia. She has an entirely different definition.
Stupid Good: As long as it's wrapped up in flowery platitudes, he will happily believe whatever is told to him, even if it's a declaration that his Childhood Friend was Released to Elsewhere.
Token Good Teammate: For a loose interpretation of 'good'; he's one of the few villains who wants to help people. But he's so thoroughly caught up in his own deluded, self-righteous fantasies that he causes more harm than if he were a typical villain (mainly by being an enabler for Lucia's murders out of sheer willful ignorance), which convinces Minaris he has to die.
Too Dumb to Live: Which Minaris calls him out on. He completely lowers his guard when Minaris breaks into his room, eats the soup she provides him, and trusts her entirely, without reservation, despite the fact that the last time he saw her, 10 years ago, he was among the people stoning her and chasing her out of her home village, unknowingly into a slaver's cage, for "bullying" that he himself neither witnessed, nor had any evidence of.
Minaris: "Did you think I wouldn't hold a grudge?!"

Minaris's father

Didn't Think This Through: He honestly doesn't think that Minaris would survive and come back for revenge as her mother was murdered and that he was the one who sold them out. After Minaris returned to the village and was holding his second wife he stupidly states "Don't touch my family" which gets Minaris so angry she kills him without hesitation.
Dirty Coward: As soon as Minaris was outed as being a demi-human he didn't even tries to defend her instead disowns her and lies to the public just to save himself and save face, Minaris after that completely hates him for his cowardice.
Fair-Weather Friend: As long as life was easy, he was Happily Married to Minaris's "beastman" mother and he was a doting father to Minaris herself. The moment he faced any hardship in relation to them, he sold them out to save his own skin, without hesitation.
Hypocrite: He tells Minaris when she holds his second wife "Don't touch My family" after he allowed the village to take away her and her mother who are actually his family.
I Have No Son!: The man has seared his conscience with a hot iron in the 10 years that Minaris wasn't around. Not only has he remarried, he acts like Minaris and her mother never existed when Minaris catches up to him.
Implausible Deniability: When an angry mob accuses him of knowing Minaris and her mother were both beast-men, he shouts that he had no idea, despite living in the same house, and seeing Minaris since she was born.
Lack of Empathy: After his family was taken away as slaves, he feels no remorse for betraying them and later remarried without ever thinking about his previous wife or daughter.
Narcissist: He only cares for himself as he ratted out his wife and daughter just to save himself so his reputation wouldn't be tarnished and even 10 years later after he remarried, he feels no remorse for what he did to his previous family as long as his own skin was saved.
Not Quite the Right Thing: As Minaris is gouging out bits of his flesh, in full view of his new wife, who was present, and cheered the loudest at Minaris's stoning, when Millanis openly ponders having her face a well justified Sins of Our Fathers, he has the gall to yell out "Don't touch my family!", and he is flummoxed that Minaris gets even angrier at this outcry.
That Thing Is Not My Child!: Towards Minaris. When Lucia's lies riled up an angry mob against her, he doesn't even try to defend his daughter, he just lies and says he never knew she's a beastman and publicly disowns her.
Too Dumb to Live: After outing his first family to save his own pathetic skin, he thinks it was a good idea to pretend that Minaris and her mother didn't exist and even tells Minaris "Don't touch my family" after she goes after his second wife which is the final spark in Minaris's wrath and kills him.

Minaris's Stepmother

Dirty Coward: After her husband is killed by Minaris, she immediately tries to reason with Minaris to save herself and beg for her life, but Minaris isn't having it after she was the one who was the most malicious to Minaris and her mother when they were outed as Demi humans.
Sadist: She was the most malicious out of the whole mob in Minaris's village as she threw the most stones at Minaris and her mother and relished in seeing the two thrown out of town.
Too Dumb to Live: Marrying the man of the girl you ran out of town and harmed on top of indirectly turning her into a sadistic vengeful vigilante was a death sign on you and she payed for it big time.
Wicked Stepmother: Is this to Minaris as she married her father and drove her and her mother out of town, thankfully this marriage and disgusting attitude came back to bite her 10 years later.

Lunaris, The Great Spirit

The god of this new world.

Big Bad: She, it, they, are directly responsible for all the evil in the world, including the initial summoning of Kaito Ukei.
Hidden Agenda Villain: Why Kaito had to be summoned and the end goal is still unclear.
Light Is Not Good: The primary source of all holy magic, and is a Mad God, on a good day.
Literal Split Personality: When Millanis and Shuria find themselves in its "divine space," there are several different personalities, all vying for supremacy, but all these personalities agree on one thing, Kaito needs to return as "the hero," and they need Millanis's and Shuria's connection to him to make that happen.
Mad God: Chapter 145 reveals that this "god" has some kind of bizarre multiple personality disorder, constantly at war with itself, and its most benevolent aspect is a Psychopathic Manchild.
The Man Behind the Man: Even in the second timeline, Kaito has yet to even confirm that she exists, and is willfully ignoring all of the evidence suggesting a hidden mastermind behind Princess Alesia.
Villainous Rescue: Rescues Millanis and Shiura from Meteria, but not before Meteria had already sent Kaito back to Earth, against his will.

Leon

The beast king.

Bad Is Good and Good Is Bad: Killing the Fairy Queen to stop her sadistic murder of innocents? Giving Leticia a legitimate cure so she never turns into a "Doom Tree"? All acts of an evil, deranged mind. Murdering your own brother, turning Leticia into a Doom Tree, so the man she loves would be forced to kill her, and then kill him too? So that "The Hero and The Demon Lord who doom the world with their very existence" are removed? Epitome of righteousness. Kaito doesn't comprehend this guy's reasoning, and does not care. This "logic" must be "cured" with a Cruel and Unusual Death, regardless of the cost.
Be All My Sins Remembered: As he's forced to see Lilia tortured, he remembers all the innocents, especially children, his schemes have harmed and internally admits that, yes, Kaito is right to want to retaliate.
But for Me, It Was Tuesday: There are so many victims of his self-proclaimed "well intentioned" villainy that he's not even surprised that he has no memory of Kaito's grudge when Kaito comes after him in Fairy Forest. He spends most of the time during their fight trying to get Kaito to tell him what his beef is, with Kaito refusing to do so until the very end, when the trap is sprung.
Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Except for Lilia, he will betray anyone he works with the moment he has the chance, and even after his memories of the previous time-line are force-fed into his mind, he still doesn't comprehend why Kaito and crew see him as completely untrustworthy.
Death by Irony: Invoked. Kaito lures him to fairy forest, as he's mutating into a fairy, and has him fight a knock-down, drag-out fight. Leon wins the fight because of unknowingly tapping into the nearby fairy tree. The moment he's got his victory, Mai and Yuuto show up and poison said tree, destroying it. The backlash gives Leon the same kind of Cruel and Unusual Death Kaito faced when he was killed "as the source of all evil" for actually winning the fight with Leticia, saving the world.
Even Evil Has Standards: He acknowledges that his own sins are on the same level, but he feels no sorrow for the possible demise of Valeria due to being disgusted by the fact that Valeria sacrifices children for power.
Forced Prize Fight: How Kaito and Leticia decide to avenge themselves on him and Lilia. Leon's doomed to die in any event, but if he manages to defeat the hastily assembled tournament of monsters, Leon can save Lilia at the cost of his own life.
Forced Transformation: Though he's yet to realize it. During the rank-up mock-battle, Kaito manages to infect him with a curse that changes his race. It's going to take a month to fully take effect, but Kaito's rationale is, "if Leon likes Fairies so much, then he can become one."
I've Come Too Far: After murdering his own brother in the original timeline, for supporting Kaito and Leticia, he figured he had no choice but to keep on hunting down Kaito, to stop the Mad God. Kaito strongly disagreed.
Kill the God: His main motive is to kill the Mad God that endlessly torments the world For the Evulz.
Moral Myopia: While he admits that he and Lilia are entirely responsible for Kaito's madness, he has the gall to consider Kaito far, far more evil than himself.
Motive Rant: When Kaito has him cornered and forced him to remember his sins from the original time-line, he shouts and rages how he's the only one who can understand the burden of his sins and the thousands of lives that depend on his actions. Kaito cares not a whit about his sanctimonious preaching, and just proceeds to show him how it feels to finally have your goals in hand only for someone else to come along and snatch them away, and then kill you, brutally, for daring to have those goals in the first place, like Leon himself has done to so many others, he's not even surprised when he's finding himself being targeted by a man with a murderous grudge he doesn't remember.
Race Against the Clock: Leon's tournament also comes with a time-limit. If he fails, both he and Lilia are doomed to die horribly. But the timer isn't a clock, it's how long Lilia can withstand Nonorik's torture regimen.
Start X to Stop X: Figured the best way to "cure" Leticia and stop her from becoming the "Doom Tree" that would doom the world is to have Leticia's older sister steal her mana-stone, and then turn her into the doom tree so Kaito would be forced to kill her. He then has the gall to be shocked that Kaito's pissed when he finds out.
- To make this tragic and senseless, Kaito had found a legitimate cure, but Leon's "perfect solution" rendered years of questing moot.
The Unapologetic: Since he believes his despicable actions are all "for the greater good" and completely unforgiveable in the first place, the idea of apologizing and asking forgiveness or mercy never crosses his mind.
Well-Intentioned Extremist:
- Honestly believed the very existence of the Demon King and the Hero would doom the world, eventually, so it's best to trick, trap, hunt down and murder them both. Considering that Leon thought it was a "brilliant" idea to taunt Kaito with Leticia's mana-stone, this argument does him no favors.
- He tolerates the existence of fairies despite being disgusted by what they do, because if he allows them to die, it will unleash a magical cataclysm that will throw the world into chaos. Studying them also provides him with valuable clues about the Mad God.

Lilia

The demon lord's sister.

Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Aside from Leon, she will betray anyone and everyone, even betraying her elder brother and selling him out to a dragon-man demon to steal his mana stone.
Crucified Hero Shot: With "hero" in huge quotes. Her crucified body is shown as Leon's "prize" in the Forced Prize Fight that is Kaito's vengeance.
Utopia Justifies the Means: Which Kaito calls her out on in chapter 208 as he's putting her through the exact same experience she put him through. She betrayed all her friends, families, and allies, save Leon, for the vision of a world completely at peace, with all races working in harmony, without exception. This is a world that has never existed, does not exist, and never will. In fact, she has betrayed and murdered, or help murder, people like Kaito and her own sister Leticia who were fighting to protect the world as it actually is and has the gall to shamelessly say their struggles are nothing compared to hers.
Well-Intentioned Extremist: She genuinely believed that the demon lord and the hero would doom their world by their very existence, and saw no other way to save it other than by working with Leon to betray and kill them.

The adventurer's guild-master Kaito uses to set up a "meeting" with Leon, to sabotage the latter.

Asshole Victim: Even Leon, his co-conspirator, cares not a whit about him facing a cruel fate.
Beast Man: He's a theriantrope.
Digging Yourself Deeper: When he finds that his latest "shipment" to Beryl are not actual children, but the vengeful ghosts of children he's already sacrificed, his struggles only serve to deepen their grudges, which makes the curse against him even more powerful. He refuses to stop antagonizing them until he's been Eaten Alive.
Eaten Alive: The grudges against him eventually manifest into a giant skeletal head that chows down on him, feet first, until he's been chewed up and swallowed into the earth, leaving nothing behind.
Fatal Flaw: Greed and Lack of Empathy brought about his downfall.
Gender-Blender Name: His name is Valerie, a traditional female name, and he's a male character.
Hulking Out: He can boost his strength and power by transforming into a more bestial form. Unfortunately, this doesn't help free him in the slightest, since the vengeful ghosts of the children he sacrificed to Beryl know he got this power as a result of said sacrifice and this makes their grudges, stronger, giving them even more power to inflict brutal vengeance upon him.
Human Sacrifice: His contract with Beryl required him to bring her a certain number of humans. Rather than take condemned criminals nobody would miss, he goes after innocent children.
Moral Myopia: He kidnaps children, en masse, enslaves them, and then physically drags them into Fairy forest, screaming at them all the while for their resistance and complaints, but when their legitimate grudges are used to fuel Kaito's spell to doom him, he cries out that Kaito's a monster and traitor to humanity for giving their vengeful ghosts the means to bring about his own demise.
Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: He tries to use the fact that he's a guild-master to try and browbeat Kaito into freeing him from the grudges of the children he sacrificed. Kaito points out that the vengeful ghosts in question don't care about that and that the more he uses the power he got from trading their lives to Berybell, the nastier his fate's going to be.
Would Hurt a Child: He fed children alive to Beryl and her fairies, in exchange for money and power.

Berybell, Queen of the Fairies

Ambiguous Innocence: Not her, but her fairies. She tells them it's their job to save the world from a cataclysm, and as "payment for their services," they can amuse themselves by playing around with any and all humans who enter fairy forest. The fairies in question have been shown in their P.O.V. chapters that they truly don't comprehend how harmful this is, not even when the humans in question are getting limbs ripped off, as the start of the horrific atrocities.
Better to Die than Be Killed: When she and Kaito encounter each other in the current time-line, she flies up to him cradling some unidentified dark crystal. She briefly taunts him that her plans have reached a point where she can no longer be stopped, before using said crystal to blow herself up, leaving nothing behind.
Cute Is Evil: She looks very much like a human elementary-school child, and she's evil to the core.
Greater-Scope Villain: On behalf of Lunaris, or so she claims, she's manipulating almost all of the bad actors, including Princess Alesia.
Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: She tells Kaito that she fully remembers him from the previous time-line and how he once had her cornered, grievously wounding her. Then she blows herself up.

Earth Antagonists:

Police officer Onishi

One of the two police detectives to meet Kaito upon returning to Earth, assigned to try and solve the "mass disappearance".

An Arm and a Leg: Kaito slices off all his limbs while torturing him, not only for information regarding the "Transcenders" and their ringleader, but as A Taste of Their Own Medicine.
Crime of Self-Defense: He tells Kaito that he considers Miyuki "an evil woman" for the fact that when he grabbed her and tried to tie her up with rope, knowing she was going to be sold off to the "Transcender" who would ultimately murder her, she fought back with the only tool she had, going at his throat with her finger-nails, the resulting injuries raising his partner's suspicions and making further kidnappings even more difficult. Such a self-serving narrative flips Kaito's switch and breaks the Wistful Amnesia.
Cruel Mercy: Kaito closed the wounds left by severing his limbs with fire, just so he wouldn't bleed to death before Kaito was done with him.
Dirty Cop: He sold out the survivors of the Kaito summoning event for money, either murdering them himself, or happily selling them off to those who would, and he strongly implies that he's among those who founded the "Transcenders" cult by leaking information about the mass-disappearance case to shady individuals, again for money.
Evil Gloating: When he thinks he has Kaito cornered in an abandoned factory, he smugly brags about abusing his official police authority to compel, lure, or otherwise bait his many victims, how they groveled when he turned on them, and how their oaths of vengeance were denied, and Kaito and Mai would be just more of the same. When Kaito turns the tables, Kaito points out that this earlier bluster is a perfect justification for denying any requests for forgiveness or mercy.
"Don't be silly, are you saying that you don't want to die after leading all those people to their deaths? Uh. You've done so at prices of tens of millions and assisting in committing the crimes, right? If so, then something like this is only fitting as the penalty for failure too, right?"
Gone Horribly Wrong: Part of his motive for founding the "Transcenders" is to try and see what life is like on other worlds, and torturing Kaito to awake his memories served to satisfy this curiosity. Not only did he not get the answer he wanted when Kaito said the two worlds are similar, but unlocking Kaito's memories also unlocked all his magical skills and ability as a Master Swordsman. Cue the loss of a few limbs and a very unpleasant death.
"Just Joking" Justification: The moment he realizes he's completely at Kaito's non-existent mercy, he tries to pass off the fact that he shot Kaito's feet with a crossbow, openly admitted using Mai as bait, and threatening that he'd kill Kaito, and then sell of Mai and Yuuto, after torturing them, as a bit of Black Comedy. Kaito responds by literally sending him to hell.
"Eeek, forg, forgive me, kidding, I was just kidding, so I won't come near you anymore..."
"...Forgive you? I, to you? You're kidding right? [Sic]"
Karmic Death: Kaito didn't have time to really torture him as much as he deserved, so simply threw him in a makeshift metal coffin, along with his severed arms and legs, and used magic to not only bury him alive, but cook him nice and slow, for a whole day. Even Kaito doesn't know what the official cause of death for his corpse would be: asphyxiation, being cooked alive, or simply fear and shock.
Lesser of Two Evils: What he claims about his evil deeds. He claims that selling and killing the survivors of Kaito's summon is a mercy compared to his "enemies" in the police force and the government of Japan who wanted to "erase" them with a bunch of convenient "accidents" to make the "Transcenders" lunacy go away. Kaito is swayed by this pitch, to kill him more quickly and painfully.
Mugging the Monster: He uses his official police authority to lure Kaito to an abandoned factory, under the pretense of rescuing Mai from the "Transcenders" then shoots Kaito in both feet with a crossbow, taunting the Ordinary Highschool Student. While bragging about the fact that he's going to be sold off for rather nefarious ends. This awakens Kaito's memories as a Master Swordsman. Onishi lives on just long enough to regret it, as he's facing a Cruel and Unusual Death.
Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Torturing Kaito and threatening Kaito's sister unlocks his memories and allows Kaito to not only rescue Mai and Yuuto, but an entire school full of innocent hostages of the [Trancendance Applicants] cult.
Nothing Personal: That evil gloating above? He only did it to kill time, without malice in his words, waiting for his client to arrive and collect the package that is Kaito and Kaito's other-world gear, that he stole from the police evidence locker. Kaito notes that even among the most doped up, indoctrinated, brainwashed, and immoral assassins he's encountered in the other world, very, very few had such a complete disregard for life.
Rabid Cop: Interviewing Kaito in the hospital, recovering from grievous injury, is already thin-ice from an investigatory ethics standpoint. He goes even further by grabbing Kaito by the hospital gown and shouting at him, accusing him of faking his amnesia. His partner could not talk him down. The entire hospital had to be up in arms about it, and threaten a lawsuit, before he backed down.
Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Puts down all his victims, especially Kaito, for "not understanding" why tens of millions would motivate him to abandon his principles and treat other people, especially children, as nothing more than paychecks, not caring a whit about the suffering his evil brings. Unfortunately for him, Kaito lost his idealism long, long ago.
"Tens of millions is a sum of money an adult would have a hard time earning in his whole life! Guess it's too much for a stupid highschool brat like you to understand."
The Sociopath: He only sees people as paychecks, and is completely unconcerned about the pain and suffering his evil deeds put them through, insulted that Kaito calls him a psychopath (the correct clinical term). When Kaito retaliates, his default act is to make threats. When these threats serve to increase his level of suffering, with certain death looming, he begs for mercy and forgiveness. By this point, Kaito doesn't have any to spare.
Suicidal Overconfidence: While he never let his guard down, keeping a crossbow aimed at a prone Kaito, he had Kaito and Kaito's other-world gear in the same place while waiting for his client to arrive and pick up "the package." It goes horribly wrong for him.
Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Which Kaito lampshades. Onishi is eerily similar to Grond, in that money is all that matters to him. He also learns that Money Is Not Power when facing a pissed off Kaito who's only willing to spare him long enough to torture the name of the ringleader out of him and then deliver a Cruel and Unusual Death when he's of no further use.
Villains Want Mercy: When Kaito makes him feel, with his own body, how the victims of his evil deeds felt, he begs, pleads, and grovels for mercy and forgiveness. Kaito reminds him how his victims begging for their lives didn't do anything to sway him to spare them.
You're Insane!: He calls Kaito "crazy" for fighting back and maiming him. Kaito doesn't deny being crazy, but points out he only needed to use violence because Onishi attacked him, and threatened his sister, Mai, first.

Transcendence Applicants Cult

The organization that hunted down, killed, stole from, and violated in every possible way, the survivors of the Kaito Summon Event, deluding themselves that this would somehow make them "heroes" in another world.

Did Not See That Coming: They went to meticulous detail to lock down and seize Kaito's high-school, taking hundreds of students hostage, both to force the police to give up Kaito for murder and to stage a mass killing with cyanide gas. They were completely unprepared for Mai and Yuuto when the two of them launched a raid on the schools principal's office, which they were using as a base, with a makeshift flash-bang. When they woke up, they found themselves on the receiving end of their self-proclaimed "daemon slaying" to their horror.
Evil Virtues: Creativity, Determination, and Vigilance. They made up wild theories to justify their nastiness, and would not let the fact that these theories were proven wrong stop their pursuits, making up new and wilder theories to "justify" their failure to meet their goals. They also let nothing stop them from pursuing their targets, even infiltrating any and every organization designed to provide security for the survivors of Kaito's summon.
Fat Bastard: From the few descriptions we get, they are all overweight, some even morbidly obese, and they are all heinous people who will happily engage in rape, murder, etc. if they think they will somehow benefit from it.
Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: It is hinted that many cult members are social outcasts hoping to find a better life on another world. Given that Japanese society is extremely rigid and unforgiving (and in this case, corrupt!), it is no surprise that there are people who just snap in the face of such injustice, destroying them mentally and socially. Given that these people would resort to murder, rape and torture to achieve their own selfish happiness, they still deserved their undignified deaths.
Heroic Wannabe: Every last one of them wanted to be whisked away to another world, and thought committing gruesome murders on those that had the cheek to survive Kaito's summoning would grant them "cheat" skills and send them to some other life, to be the "heroes" like popular isekai anime, manga, and light novels. Mai and Yuuto make it their life's mission to traumatize them so badly, in response, that even if they reincarnate in some other world, they'll be too emotionally crippled to even lead a decent life, let alone a heroic one.
Insane Troll Logic: Invoked and lampshaded. They formed their organization through online-chat boards and bounced off of each other all sorts of wild conspiracy theories to justify their delusion that killing hundreds of innocent bystanders in gruesome ways would automatically make them "heroes" in another world and another life.
Karmic Death: They loved to make snuff films of their "heroic daemon slaying" so they wind up getting a Snuff Film made of them as they die, with their own recording equipment.
Never My Fault: When they raid a high school, taking the entire local population hostage, rigging the ventilation system with canisters of cyanide gas, demanding the police hand over Kaito, so they could murder him, they never dreamed Kaito's sister and best friend, who are also students, would raid them with a makeshift flash-bang, a hatchet, and a real-bladed naginata hidden as a prop in the school, and a good 20 or so sets of handcuffs. When they woke up, facing their own standards of treatment, they suddenly started fearing death and making up all sorts of excuses to try and escape the Cold-Blooded Torture they were receiving. None of it sways Mai or Yuuto in any way, except to make them angrier.
"I know nothing! [Sic] I just wanted to be a hero!"
No Name Given: None of the members of this sick cult are ever named.
Snuff Film: They openly videotape and broadcast their brutal killings, rapes, and other violations on their victims, not only for their own self-gratification, but as a sick "testament" of how they'll be "heroic" for slaying "daemons." They even had the camera gear set up in chapter 157, to videotape themselves using cyanide gas to murder an entire high-school full of innocent hostages.
Villains Want Mercy: The moment they find themselves facing a Cruel and Unusual Death? They pale in terror, beg for mercy, and plead for their lives. The fact that they ignored their victim's pleas is thrown back into their faces.
Would Hurt a Child: Not only do they target the highschoolers who were Kaito's classmates, and managed to survive his summon, they also target any and all relatives of said classmates, regardless of age. They are even on record murdering Shatomi, the younger sister of Yuuto's girlfriend, and doing things so terrible, her body had to be identified by DNA.

Kawakami Kumiko

A self-proclaimed reporter that ambushes Kaito as he comes out of the hospital, on his way home.

Awesome by Analysis: Simply by inspecting the magic circles that appeared at the time Kaito was summoned, she was not only able to unlock her own ability to use magic, but also managed to integrate it with modern technology. Kaito is impressed upon seeing it, but this does not sway him to spare her.
Big Bad: Of the "Earth" arc.
Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Friendly and amiable to Kaito when they first met, but is allegedly behind all the nastiness Kaito finds when he's in Japan. Kaito's suspicions are confirmed when Onishi kidnaps him, and gets the tables turned.
Did Not See That Coming: Never dreamed Kaito would be the one hunting her down, rather than the opposite, nor that Kaito could also use magic, on Earth.
Drunk On Power: The moment she was able to use magic is the moment she started seeing everyone else as pawns, test-subjects, or hindrances, not as people, and became insufferably addicted to her own ego.
Evil Former Friend: Charitably Her friendship with Mai may have been genuine before she unlocked her magical abilities and the power went to her head, but that's unlikely considering how quickly and easily she went and faked her death, purely to traumatize Mai.
Evil Gloating: Not that begging forgiveness nor pleading for her life would have helped, but when she was at the mercy of Kaito, Yuuto, and Mai, all of whom she's grievously wronged, she smugly bragged that she's beyond reproach because she's entitled to be "The Grand Magus." This only serves to hasten her doom.
Faking the Dead: She used a puppet to lure Mai to the site of her "murder," purely to traumatize Mai for her own ends.
Fatal Flaw: Pride. Big Time. So Kaito uses the Sword of Mortal Sin: Pride, to make her existence less than meaningless, before erasing her from causality, forever, to fuel his trip back to the other world, Mai Ukei and Yuuto in tow.
For Science!: For Magic to be precise. All her horrific behavior is solely for the purpose of becoming a genuine witch, not merely pretending to be one online...
For the Evulz: The reason she had a sweet, kind-hearted girl named Kaori kidnapped, tortured and murdered? She thought it would be fun. She honestly can't understand why this enraged Miyuki (whom she had drawn, quartered, and killed in a sick "magic experiment"), Mai, Yuuto, and even Kaito.
Going for the Big Scoop: What she claims to be doing when she met Kaito. The truth... is a different matter.
Ignorant of His Own Ignorance: Since she was able to unlock magic on Earth, and has always only been up against others who couldn't use magic themselves, she came to conclude that she's the best magician in the universe, and smugly presumed that Kaito only trounced her thanks to catching her by surprise.
I Just Want to Be Special: She pursued magical awakening so she'd be "The Grand Magus" and become a magical super-star. As punishment, she's not only erased from existence, the power that did it made her existence totally meaningless in the process, everything she's done will be done by other people or things, and only Kaito, Mai, and Yuuto will have ever known she existed, and they don't plan to spare her another thought once she's gone.
Intrepid Reporter: Her cover identity.
I Reject Your Reality: She is the best magus in the universe, thanks to being on the tail end of a long bloodline of talented magicians. The only reason she can't do well with magic on earth is that earth is mana-poor. There is no other explanation, and anyone who disagrees is pitiable, at best.
Loophole Abuse: She may have instigated the [Transcendence Applicants] to attack Kaito's high-school, and both Yuuto and Mai to brutally murder them, but considers herself an "innocent" because she never actually ordered them to do so.
Manipulative Bitch: Mai, Yuuto, the police, the government, the [Transcendence Applicant] cult, even an amnesiac Kaito, were all dancing in her hands. Thanks to Onishi's ineptitude and arrogance, Kaito became a Spanner in the Works.
Marionette Master: Can create and control golems, for a short time, which she uses as perfect alibis for her crimes.
Never My Fault: Tries to paint herself as a helpless victim forced into doing evil things, as a result of her friends "betraying" her by looking upon her with disdain, and wanting nothing to do with her. In truth, her friends distance themselves because she was doing evil things, or at least noticed that her behavior was rather odd and distanced themselves out of enlightened self-preservation.
One Degree of Separation: Younger sister of Yuuto's now dead girlfriend, and Mai's "friend."
Pragmatic Villainy: Absolutely loathes the [Transcendence Applicants] cult for murdering the survivors of the Kaito Summoning Event because corpses are of no value to her. She needed living test subjects to grant and analyze magic powers. This is also the main reason she hates the corrupt police department who tried to Make It Look Like an Accident when they tried to kill Kaito with an explosion.
The Reveal: Chapter 161 She's actually Satomi, Mai's best friend, that Mai watched simultaneously raped and murdered by a [Transcendence Applicant] cultist.
Ret-Gone: Combined with Break the Haughty, Human Sacrifice, and Karmic Death. Kaito uses the Sword of Mortal Sin: Pride to offer her very existence, mind, body, soul, past, present, and future, to open the portal back to the other world, taking Mai Ukei and Yuuto back with him as accomplices. In addition, the process is unimaginably painful. She spends her last ever on-screen moments screaming "Nonnoooonnoooo!" in pure agony. It's universally considered a very gratifying punishment for what she's done.
Rich Bitch: She's somehow rich enough that she considers a bribe of tens of millions as pocket change, can fund and found an entire cult, which isn't cheap, and she has a horrific personality that sees her peers as nothing more than test subjects to test out her magic theories, at best.
Smug Snake: When asked, hypothetically, what she'd do if she was spared, or somehow managed to escape, she bragged that she'd sell out Kaito, Yuuto, and Mai to the local police, loaded to the hilt with corruption. This seals her fate.
Suicidal Overconfidence: She thought her magic made her literally untouchable. She found out too late how wrong an assertion that is.
The Social Expert: She controls the police, government, and the [Transcendence Applicants] cult she herself created by using sociology, psychology, mass-media, group-think, and all other sorts of nasty psycho-social tricks. This does not work on a non-amnesiac Kaito who is already so Driven to Madness that he doesn't care about any of it.
Teens Are Monsters: She's a middle-schooler and sees all her classmates as nothing more than test subjects, fakes her own death precisely to traumatize her "best friend," and engages in mass-murder by proxy, just to meet her own ends.
Wrong Genre Savvy: When she starts using magic, she comes to believe that it's because the Earth is lacking mana to fuel it, rather than the fact that Earth's mana is so over-saturated that it's very difficult to manipulate properly.
Xanatos Gambit: Either Onishi captures Kaito and delivers him, the police catch him and she breaks him out, or the [Transcendence Applicants] cult lures him to the school and she catches him. She never dreamed he'd trounce Onishi instead and track her down.

Maeno

A "scientist" Kaito finds in a government facility housing the rest of his stolen gear. What few pieces Oshini didn't confiscate from Police Impound.

Anti-Climax Boss: In-universe. Kaito is expecting a major battle from the lab's penultimate weapon, and is thoroughly disgusted by how easily he takes it down.
Bullying a Dragon: Despite being well aware that Kaito can manifest super-human abilities, he continuously taunts and provokes the latter. It goes horribly wrong for him.
Crime of Self-Defense: He has the gall to state that Kaito coming to reclaim his other-world gear is illegal and it is all the property of the state, despite revealing that he knew it was illegally taken from Kaito in the first place, with a murder attempt.
Evil Old Folks: Described as being covered in wrinkles and gray hair.
Godzilla Threshold: After Kaito has torn through all his lab's advance drone defenses like paper, he unleashes their penultimate project, despite being well aware it's nowhere near ready or stable. Kaito still tears it apart with disgusting ease.
Just Think of the Potential!: To try and justify his crimes and lack of scruples, he constantly decries Kaito for threatening Japan's advancement by wrecking the lab where his stolen other-world gear was stored and being analyzed.
Mad Scientist: As lampshaded by Kaito, he has no moral or ethical scruples.
Not Quite the Right Thing: Asking Kaito to stop wrecking the lab and to surrender wasn't wrong, per se, but claiming that Kaito has no right to be in possession of his own property, that was taken from him illegally in the first place, and branding him a criminal for that, made Kaito give up any thoughts of simply taking back his belongings and going away quietly, and actively prompted him to hunt down and eliminate Maeno.
Off with His Head!: One of the few people Kaito kills quickly and painlessly, by beheading.
Small Name, Big Ego: Is entirely convinced that his self-proclaimed "genius" is of vital importance to the future of Japan, and Kaito wrecking the laboratory in self-defense, and trying to recollect his belongings is an act of insanity.
This Can Not Be: All he could do was shout "impossible" over and over again as Kaito tore through his mecha with disgusting ease.
Villains Want Mercy: After Kaito had taken down the lab's Gundam-wannabe, and cut through five layers of tempered glass to get at him, he collapses on the floor and begs to be spared. Well, Kaito does grant him the mercy of a quick death at least.
Wrong Assumption: He thought he had Kaito at his mercy after "luring" him into the deepest parts of his lab. Kaito saw through him, and was merely playing along, to get his guard down, to make killing him easier.

One-Shot Character: He's only seen a couple of times as Kaito and Millanis are escaping the Royal Capital and never mentioned again.
Our Dwarves Are Different: He towers over Kaito, despite being at least part dwarf.
What the Hell, Hero?: He berates Kaito for letting the citizens of the Royal Capital be attacked by wild beasts through a breach in the wall, after Kaito berates him for putting himself in harm's way for the Ungrateful Townsfolk that would execute him if they knew his heritage. High on Homicide: Just like Kaito, she takes orgasmic pleasure in torturing vengeance targets.
I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: To the point that she laid down her life so Kaito could go home. Neither of them knew how impossible that is, or why.

Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Volume six's prologue shows Leticia attacking the self-proclaimed dragon king that sadistically murdered her elder brother, taunted her, and had her completely at his mercy before she was rescued by Kaito in the previous timeline, but because of the reset, she's aware of his plans, actions, strengths and weaknesses, and has him entirely at her mercy, torturing all his arrogance and ego out of him, before she'll grant him the mercy of death.
Star-Crossed Lovers: Her being the Demon Lord, and him being the "Hero" destined to kill her, their relationship would never have worked out. Kaito isn't sure things will go well in the current timeline either...
Through His Stomach: A rare gender-flipped version. Kaito wins her heart by feeding her well, though that wasn't his intention at the time.

Maryse

Horrible Judge of Character: She believed that her husband would defend her and their daughter when they were exposed as demi-humans. Not only did he not defend them, but he immediately tells the village that he was deceived too just to save himself and allows her and Minaris to be taken away as slaves which also results in her death.
Small Role, Big Impact: Her torture and death are what caused Minaris to hate her father as well as the rest of her village, which results in Minaris's darker personality and her strive for vengeance.
Too Good for This Sinful Earth: She was a genuinely kind person and a selfless, loving mother, who gave her life to protect her only daughter after they were both betrayed by the people who once claimed to love them.

Myun

The widow who runs the orphanage in the current timeline, whereas Grond and Fegner ran it in the original timeline.

Morality Pet: One of the few people Kaito treats well in the current timeline, without seeking recompense, or as part of a revenge scheme.
Tragic Keepsake: The Stone-Leaf Sword belonging to her deceased husband, and which Grond extorted from her, for his own greed.

One of the "wall eater" bugs Kaito and Millanis took with them while fleeing the capital.

The Empath: She can sense people's emotions, and is rightly worried when her appearance reminds Kaito of the fairy kingdom, which he rightly loathes, and exterminated to the last in the previous timeline.
Mix-and-Match Critter: Rabbit ears, scales, and a bunch of animal parts on a humanoid frame.
Morality Pet: Literally. Millanis decides to raise it as her pet, not only feeding it grass and bits of food, but her mana when it goes into its chrysalis form.
Our Phlebotinum Child: After feeding on mana from Millanis and Kaito for a few months the chrysalis hatches and becomes a miniature humanoid with features of both Kaito and Millanis, and calls them "Mama" and "Papa." With Shuria being "big sis."

A character introduced in chapter 120. A fellow summoned Japanese who happens to be a peddler and Childhood Friend of Millanis.

Childhood Friends: With Millanis.
Did Not Think This Through: She tried to mislead Millanis to the wrong side of the country via the means in the Exact Words entry, and it might have worked, except for the fact that Lucia and Kirel were also students in magic class at Carbonheim, where Millanis is, and if Millanis noticed, which she did, not only could Millanis confirm the actual location of her home village, but it would utterly destroy whatever trust and leverage Leona had.
Millanis: "You certainly have been unfair. You assumed that I'd think he was in Kikitto, when he was right here, and you'd think I wouldn't notice?!"
Exact Words: Being bound by a contract where she Cannot Tell a Lie, when Millanis asks for directions to her home village, the one who stoned her, got her mother killed, and sold her into cruel slavery, Leona gives long, and convoluted directions to a village from her travels, hoping to lead Millanis astray. Millanis...is not amused when she finds out.
Forced to Watch: As punishment for her incessant attempts to dissuade Kaito and his friends from their quest for vengeance, her attempt to lead them away from Kikkito village through trickery and finally trying to stop Millanis from killing Kirel, Leona and her companions were taken captive by Kaito to watch every step of Millanis' three-day vengeance upon the village, up to and including having all the adults (including Millanis' father and his new wife) transformed painfully into zombies by a horde of maggots, leaving Lucia for last (the children were quietly evacuated by Kaito). Leona and her friends faint from the sheer shock and horror of it all.
Good Counterpart: She is this to Millanis. Sadly, it's even possible that Leona is what Millanis could have become had she never experienced the horrific cruelties of betrayal, racism and slavery.
Intrepid Merchant: Runs a peddler caravan that trades between towns, in a world at war.
Knight Templar: Her way is the only way to live, no exceptions. Disagree, and prepare to be hounded and nagged incessantly, at best.
Not Quite the Right Thing: In her pleas for Kaito and the others to abandon their righteous vengeance against the village of Kikkito, she says Kaito has enough power to do anything he wants, even returning to Japan if he wished. It is only then that she learns to her horror that such an act is utterly meaningless, as being summoned to this new world has killed all his friends and family. And hers.
The Pollyanna: She is vehemently insistent that Kaito, Millanis, and Shiura should give up their quest for vengeance, regardless of the consequences. Kaito pointedly spells out that this is a physical impossibility because those who wronged them are already horrible people who now have spiteful grudges against them and will make their lives impossible if Kaito's party doesn't give them A Taste of Their Own Medicine or wipe them out. She still refuses to believe it.
Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Since she went through "Tutorial Mode" herself, she is exempt from the loss of memories that occurs on a reset when someone else has it happen to them. It has happened to her so many times, she recognizes it instantly.
Saying Too Much: The first time she confronts Kaito, attacking him without any idea of the current situation, simply because she saw the slave crest on Millanis, she departs saying "Former 'Hero' from Japan." This clues Kaito in that he's not alone in having a Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory.
Stupid Good: She tries to preach "forgive and forget" in a World of Jerkass where the only thing keeping people from trampling you to death is the fear of reprisal. Leona also refuses to empathize with anything that flies in the face of her personal beliefs, stubbornly insisting that Vengeance Feels Empty despite Kaito and his friends having very good reasons for doing what they do.
Sympathy for the Devil: To her, Kaito, Millanis and Shiura are ultimately good people who need to be shown another way to live. Despite her naïveté, Leona actually treats Kaito better than most people, who simply see Kaito and his friends as evil lunatics who must be put down as quickly and as painfully as possible.
The Victim Must Be Confused: Exploited. She sees Kaito, Shiura, and Millanis, with Millanis bearing a slave collar and immediately attacks Kaito, not bothering to learn anything about the situation. Kaito uses this to force her into a contract so she'd reveal vital intel he needs to carry out his vengeance, and to keep her out of it.
- Again, not learning her lesson, she sees the binding effect of the Sword of Vengeance, knows it's coming from Kaito's group, and the chains on their hearts are there of their own volition, and still tries to "save" them by talking them out of it, which will kill them!
We Used to Be Friends: High on Homicide after completing her vengeance on Kikkito village, Millanis attempted to kill an unconscious Leona as punishment for her attempt to deny her vengeance. Kaito stops her since Leona didn't explicitly lie to Millanis (an oversight on Kaito's part) and had selfless intentions for her intervention. Both Millanis and Leona have just cause for their respective actions, but it is likely that the goodwill between them has now been damaged due to conflicting ideals.
Wrong Genre Savvy: On a more idealistic world where people are generally good or at least morally grey, her beliefs would not be out of place. Unfortunately, she lives in a world where most people are selfish jerks at best or downright monsters at worst. Worse still, Leona seems to have a certain blind spot when it comes to anything that challenges her idealistic worldview.

Police Officer Miyakawa

One of the two police detectives assigned to Kaito when he finds himself back on Earth.

Apologizes Alot: Always apologizing for the lack of results the police and government are having in trying to figure out what happened to every one else who disappeared along with Kaito, and apologizing for his rotten partner's bad behavior.
Being Good Sucks: As probably the only honest, and competent, cop involved with Kaito, he's constantly getting pushed aside by his partner, Onishi, browbeaten by his superiors, and forced to stand aside as the local politicians and police top brass just throw a bunch of rookies into the area so they can make a show of "trying something" to the public, making the real investigation go to pot.
By-the-Book Cop: Follows the proper police procedures in everything, even collecting Kaito's gear and keeping it as evidence of a crime, since Kaito arrived back on Earth as the clear target of violence.
Implausible Deniability: A victim of it. An explosion that nearly killed him, Kaito, and Mai was blamed on a natural gas pipe chewed through by rats.
Make It Look Like an Accident: He, Kaito, and Mai go to police headquarters, evidence locker, to reclaim Kaito's belongings, and when they get there, an explosion nearly kills all three of them. Kaito's warrior instinct saved him and Mai. The police detective had to be put into critical care. Kaito was naturally suspicious when Police HQ proved to be surprisingly understaffed...
Token Good Teammate: For all the police involved in Kaito's case, and he suffers for it.
