The Dark Legion

A group of technology obsessed echidnas that split off from society into their own cult. They were banished into an alternate dimension for centuries.

     In General
  • Always Someone Better: The Complete Sonic Comic Encyclopedia revealed that the Nocturnus Clan is this to them. While the Clan never appeared in the comic, the Encyclopedia explains that they were an caste of Albion scientists who were transported to the Twilight Zone long before the Dark Legion and that they were technologically superior to them, to the point that the Nocturnus Clan chose not to conquer them like the other races in the zone due to believing they weren't worth the effort.
  • Cyborg: Anyone who is part of this faction will always have some cybernetic item attached or replacing their organic parts.
  • Enemy Civil War: The Dark Legion has had a lot of problems with factionalism. Kragok managed to avoid one such war when he took over and stripped Lien-Da of her political title; and the changing of the guard from Kragok to Dimitri went off without a hitch. Problems arose when Dimitri wanted to bury the hatchet with the other Echidnas and the Dark Legion fractured into numerous groups that fillout all sorts of alignments. Many settled into Echidnopolis, and when it was taken over they sided with Lien-Da. Dr. Finitevus backed Remington as a new Grandmaster and he had his own splinter group (the Frost Legion) following him and challenging Lien-Da (leading the Flame Legion) for authority.
  • Faceless Goons: Their hoods obscure their faces save for their eyes; making them easy to dispose of mooks.
  • Mundane Utility: Ian Flynn stated that in addition to serving as bio-enhancements and weaponry, Legionares get mechanical implants as a form of self expression and how these Echidnas show their devotion to technology.
  • Put on a Bus: The Legion were Ken's creation and they were scrubbed from the comic following the reboot.
  • Renegade Splinter Faction: They're a renegade faction of the Echidna society dating back to the days of Edmund and Dimitri. Edmund's genealogy spawned the Brotherhood while Dimitri's spawned the Legion.
  • Villain Decay: Justified as the Dark Egg Legion. While the Legion started out fairly powerful, numerous set backs ensued to the point where most of their members either died or defected after the mass-depowering. By the time the remnant signs on with Eggman they're a fraction of the size with many of their more powerful members dead (Xenin, Kragok), turned turncoat (Julie Su, Dr. Finitevus) or MIA (Moritori Rex) and the powers of Enerjak are long gone. The DEL are just easily defeated mooks prone to comedy rather than the fearsome Dark Legion they started out as.

     Dimitri

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/200px-Dimitri_Issue_-184_3631.jpg

A distant ancestor of Knuckles, Lien-Da, and Julie-Su. Spent several centuries as the Chaos-empowered demigod Enerjak.

  • Anti-Villain: He gradually revealed himself as this. Part of it came from him learning from his mistakes after being stripped from his powers, and working towards a peace between Echidnas. Part of it was via retcon showing Dimitri's initial experiment to not be entirely through selfishness as the corrupt council was continually blocking his and Edmund's desire to help people.
  • Arch-Enemy: Before his Heel–Face Turn, he served as this to Knuckles.
  • The Atoner: Has become this following his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Big Bad: Of Knuckles' spin-off series.
  • Brain in a Jar: Well, head, his body is long since gone with only cybernetics keeping him alive.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Was stripped of his powers by Mogul.
  • Cyborg: One of few Echidnas still with their original Dark Legion cybernetics.
  • The Dragon: As Grandmaster of the Dark Egg Legion, he served as this to Eggman.
  • Drunk on the Dark Side: The Chaos Emeralds gave him one hell of a Power High and he grew erratic and careless. When he was depowered he regains his former clarity, lamenting how he never used his incredible power in the most practical of ways.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: While he's frustrated with his descendant Lien-Da's treachery and short-sightedness, he still loves her and continually tries to pull her from danger even if it was brought by her own hubris.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Not apparent at first, but gradually Dimitri becomes one of the least evil of the major villains. He continually tries to push for more peaceful solutions only for Mogul, Eggman, and even Lien-Da to keep undermining him with the depravity they can get to. Dimitri also expresses regret with working with the likes of Dr. Finitevus.
  • Fake Defector: He reveals to Knuckles that he joined forces with Eggman in order to weaken him from within.
  • Forgot About His Powers: As Enerjak, he failed to use any nigh-omnipotent powers to defeat Knuckles in their first fight or to teleport back to Mobius after being blasted into space.
  • General Failure: During his tenure as the Dark Egg Legion Grandmaster, Dimitri led the troops to more defeats than victories. Of course, it's implied he was doing this on purpose in an attempt to weaken Eggman from within.
  • A God Am I: When he became Enerjak, he declared himself a god.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He was an Anti-Villain to begin with, and was continually subject to Eviler than Thou (first from Mogul and then from his own great-X-granddaughter Lien-Da). He began to realize the damage he's done to his people and the rest of echidna kind, leaving Knuckles to enforce this on him in order to search for the Brotherhood and save what's left of their race.
  • Invincible Villain: Subverted. As Enerjak, Knuckles has never once defeated him. At least not on his own.
  • Mad Scientist
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Dimitri ends up outliving his son Menniker, Menniker having died in battle with the Guardian Aaron.
  • Physical God: As Enerjak.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Was kept perpetually young by his Chaos powers. When they were stolen, however, he aged rapidly, to the point that the only way to save him was to surgically remove his head, and attach it to a life support system in a floating fish bowl. Eggman later enhanced this by equipping him with tentacle like extensions to his dreadlocks, granting him back limbs per se.
  • Sanity Slippage: The chaos energies flowing through his mind warped it and as Enerjak, Dimitri became far more violent, power-hungry, and cruel. His sanity returns when Mogul de-powers him.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: He spent several centuries buried under the rubble of his own fortress, and shortly after escaping from there, was launched into space for a while.
  • That Man Is Dead: When he attained the powers to become Enerjak, he left his old identity behind.
    Kragok: "Great Dimitri!!!"
Enerjak: "Lord Enerjak will do, Kragok! Dimitri is but a distant memory!"
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Seemed to be a running theme with him as Enerjak, if not Enerjak incarnations in general. For example, he had more raw power than Mogul when they first met, but Mogul stole his powers with little effort.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Finitevus during the events leading up to the "Enerjak Reborn" arc - he thought his power would be returned to him, but Finitevus was just using him to figure out how to turn someone else into Enerjak.
  • Villain Cred: When he returns from his first defeat he lands right on top of, and destroys, a statue of him that the Dark Legion created. He takes a moment to admire the craftsmanship of the statue, saying he'd like to meet the person who made it.
  • Villain Decay: Once he becomes a cyborg, and eventually just a head, he slowly becomes less of a threat in every appearance and easily defeated by Knuckles and the Choatix. He joins Eggman to prevent Lien-da from making things worse and was demoted to Elite Mook. Sometime after Lien-Da betrays him for power, he was later found by the Freedom Fighters and is strong armed into a Heel–Face Turn by Knuckles.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: By the end of his run, Dimitri's motivations are primarily for the preservation of his people, unlike many of his associates such as Lien-Da who are motivated by power or wrath. However he still resorts to aligning himself with unscrupulous clients, often making him a Guilt-Ridden Accomplice for the Big Bad of each arc.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Was a pretty okay guy until he became Enerjak, at which point he completely lost it. Fortunately, his sanity was restored when he was DePowered.

     Lien-Da
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_7878.png

Power mad older sister of Julie-Su and Grandmaster of the Dark Egg Legion. Despises her little sister (the feeling is very mutual).

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: She, and what's left of the Dark Legion, turn to Eggman when Enerjak (Knuckles) took her cybernetics away. Eggman gives them what they want, for a price.
  • Ascended Extra: Initially a very minor henchman that gradually got much more of a role in the series.
  • The Baroness: Sexpot kind. While Dmitri was in charge of the Dark Legion (before it became the Dark Egg Legion), her title was "Kommissar", and she can sometimes be seen sporting a Whip of Dominance to go with that form-fitting black military uniform.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Seeks to be Grandmaster of the Dark Legion and conquer the world herself, however she always ends up outplayed by other more competent villains or her own impulses or hubris, leaving her an opportunistic lackey most of the time. Eggman actually revives her for this reason, treating Lien-Da's ineffectual attempts to usurp him like an amusing little game he always beats her at, much the same way as he does with Snively.
  • Cain and Abel: She, along with Kragok despised their younger sister and immediately set upon disposing of her (Lein Da in particular lingered over whether just to kill her instead). Interestingly, Lien Da herself was double crossed by Kragok out of power as Grandmaster, leading her to have played both roles of the trope.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: She betrays her father, her great-grandfather, the Iron Queen and would do the same to Eggman if given the chance, all in the name of gaining personal power.
  • Control Freak: Actually has nothing against robbing the sentience of her clan to get them to follow her orders.
  • Cyborg: Though not as apparent as most Legionaries. Ian Flynn states that she didn't want to alter her appearance too much and most of her cyborg additions are internal or covered under clothing.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Lien-Da has this as a Fatal Flaw. She's never much for planning and more acting when an opportunity sees itself, but never seems to think what to do past a certain point in action or what her opponents are really capable of. This nearly gets her killed when she has the bright idea to attack the Iron Queen, a Technopath, when she herself is a cyborg; she goes down like a chump thanks to the Queen activating the Explosive Leash Eggman had installed in Lien-Da's cybernetics, and the only reason she survives at all is because Eggman decides to rebuild her. This is also what cost her a leadership role in the Dark Legion: her and her brother Kragok were planning on murdering their father so they could both be leaders. Just so happens she didn't even think that her brother would double-cross her as well and while she survives the weapon that killed their father blowing up on her, Kragok steals the leadership role under her nose.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Her penchant for being a treacherous Smug Snake essentially makes her the Snively of the Dark Egg Legion. They even relate to each other's desires for power and revenge in a few conversations (when not bickering childishly).
  • The Dragon: Often carries the rank of Commissar.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: In the Mobius: 25 Years Later timeline altered by King Sonic's time-traveling, she's still as evil as ever, but she seems to genuinely love her son Rutan (in the unaltered timeline, she's actually semi-Heel Face Turned.)
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Her future self is horrified when King Shadow goes to use Tikhaos to destroy everything, also, she isn't willing to get the royal twins involved in battle, being 'innocent' according to her.
  • Evil Redhead
  • Freudian Excuse: "Dad liked you more!"
  • Gory Discretion Shot: In the climax of the Iron Dominion Arc, she had tried to enact a coup against Regina and attacked her. But Regina countered by activating the bomb in her cybernetics. We see an explosion shortly after, along with Snively and some minions' horrified reaction, and the legion quickly shouting to gather up her body before fleeing.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She had reformed 25 years later and made peace with Julie-Su. But it was changed when King Sonic went time-hopping and somehow prevented this from happening. Possibly because in the new timeline, Shadow had taken over and thus she didn't get over her power hungry tendencies.
  • It's All About Me: To a sociopathic degree. Granted, she has been constantly put as second in command.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: She's an arrogant and cruel villainess who tends to suffer a few comical thrashings from the heroes, especially in Flynn's era.
  • Laughably Evil: Has few restraints and mobilities, has exterminated or screwed over the large majority of her family and people as a stepping stone in her attempts for power. Nevertheless she has the comical demeanor of a spoiled child and things never quite seem to go her way.
  • Lightning Lash: She can form whips made of electricity.
  • Moral Myopia: On Archie's now defunct Sonic blog, there was a journal entry written by Lien-Da during the Iron Kingdom arc where she talks about how one of her underlings asked her how helping in the Iron Queen's conquest of the New Mobotropolis is any different to how Eggman and the Dingoes ravaged and enslaved the Echidnas and Angel Island. She remarks that it's because the Echidnas are different from the "lesser mobians" and that, unlike the Echidnas who all lived in the same area, there are other mobians outside the city so the losses they're inflicting upon the citizenry aren't as bad in comparison. She also criticizes how the city didn't help the Echidnas during their time of crisis, conveniently ignoring the fact that Knothole was also fighting against Eggman at the time.
  • Never My Fault: Blames her family (particularly her younger sister) for all her grievances in her life. Also tends to blame those around her when plans go wrong (her Great-Great-Grandfather was far more willing to point out her own incompetence, naturally not long after which he was due for the chop as well).
  • Older Than They Look: Despite her appearance, she's actually 33 years old. In an alternate timeline, she retains the same look when she's 63 years old.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Lien-Da wants power and control, but never really has a concrete plan in place to do so. Rather than plan things out, she's more into acting on any opportunities that present themselves. Sadly, she never thinks past a certain point or plans out what to do afterward; her lack of long-term planning had near-fatal consequences when she tried to usurp the Iron Queen, only to be blown up.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot, and was put on a bus shortly before it.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Can be quite the spoiled brat when things don't go her way. She's not above teasing Snively either.
Aw, is little Snivy-kins not getting the attention he needs?
  • Ret-Gone: Her Light Mobius counterpart suffers this fate after King Shadow destroys her spatial armband.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Murdered both her father and her stepmother, the former to become Grandmaster of the Legion.
  • Shock and Awe: After Eggman rebuilds her.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Julie-Su.
  • Smug Snake: Is not in much control of a situation as she thinks, as evidenced when she tries to make a bid for power during the final battle with the Iron Queen.
  • The Starscream: Tired of playing second fiddle, she always finds a way to reach for the top. She gets her chance by disposing of her Father and later her Great-Great-Grandfather to gain the role of Grandmaster and tried to overthrow the Iron Queen. This didn't work out too well however.
    • Is currently one to Eggman. He in fact saved her from dying because he's amused by having his underlings trying to kill him as part of his "game."
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After being detonated by the Iron Queen, Eggman rebuilds her. Despite expecting to look like one of his other horrific cyborgs, or even worse, like Dimitri, Eggman pretty much revived her perfectly, amused by her treachery. As a bonus, he also installed her with combat utilities, making her more of a threat to the Freedom Fighters and (relatively) less of the Dark Egg Legion's Butt-Monkey.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After spending her entire existence as a non-action villain, she recently turned into a fighter that can pose a danger to Sonic thanks to the cybernetics she gained from Eggman.
  • Whip of Dominance: Lien-da was seen with a whip during the 'Return To Angel Island' arc. Though she mostly used it for flirting, the entire outfit she'd been given for that arc was designed to resemble a dominatrix.
  • Why Am I Ticking?: As with most Eggman minions, she was implanted with a bomb in her body via her cybernetics. Working under the Iron Queen somewhat diminished the threat since Regina wasn't as trigger happy as Eggman long as they didn't cross her. But Lien-Da attempted to overthrow her near the end of the arc and...well Regina did just that, activated her explosives and nearly killed her. It was only thanks to Eggman that she managed to survive.
  • Witch with a Capital "B": Julie-Su certainly considered her such, and with valid reason.

     Kragok

Lien-Da’s brother, Julie-Su's half-brother, Remington's father and descendant of Dimitri.

  • Back for the Dead: He and Tobor are lost into a portal locked in combat. Many issues later Dimitri accidently reopens the portal and the pair tumble out, fatally crashing into the Legion's airship.
  • Cain and Abel: As united he and Lien-Da were in their vendetta against their family (especially their youngest sister, Julie-Su), ultimately Kragok had no qualms brutally double crossing even her for that extra role of power either.
  • Cyborg: As par the course for Legionnaires.
  • Demoted to Dragon: The de-facto leader of the Legion in his first outing, Kragok willingly gives up control to Dimitri after he returns from space.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Kragok sent his son Remington away to Echidnaopolis in order to protect him from Lien-Da.
  • I Can Rule Alone: He and Lien-Da initially agreed to share power as Grandmaster, but he double-crossed her by duping her into killing their father with a faulty weapon that literally blew up in her face once she did the deed. While Lien-Da was in a coma, Kragok took over as the sole Grandmaster.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Hated his family so much that he conspired to get his father, Luger, killed, injured Lien-Da enough to keep the full power of Grandmaster to himself, and erased Julie-Su's memory of her family and tossed her at a couple and told her to treat her as if she were an orphan before taking them away from her.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Murdered both his father and his stepmother, the former to become Grandmaster of the Legion.
  • The Starscream: Was this to Lien-Da - he had agreed to share power as the Grandmaster after they did away with their father, only for him to take the entire thing. Though when Dimitri returns, he's nothing but loyal to him.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The guy only shows up for three storylines before disappearing at the end of the third, only to show up once more to die.

     Moritori Rex

Moritori is a former Grandmaster of the Dark Legion, son of the Dark Legion's founder Menniker and grandson of the infamous Dimitri. He became a spy when he was mistaken for the Guardian Tobor and brought to the Brotherhood of Guardians's secret base Haven.

  • Combat Pragmatist: Moritori will use any means at his disposal to win in a fight.
  • Cyborg: He possesses cybernetic implants, most notably his eyes, which were originally equipped to allow him to spy on the Prime Zone while still trapped in the Twilight Cage and he is one of few Echidnas with their original Dark Legion cybernetics.
  • Disappointed in You: It's not that apparant in comic, but Ian Flynn stated he wrote Rex with this opinion in regards to his son Luger; Rex was ultimately dissatisfied with how little Luger accomplished.
" I don't think Rex outright hated his son; I think there was still a small, "human" part of him that felt at least a responsibility to acknowledge him. But I don't think he lingered on the news of his death. While Rex was busy scheming in the Primeverse, Luger achieved very little in terms of returning to Angel Island. I see Rex as being disappointed with Luger's apparent lack of drive or viciousness, which is why he turned his attention to the next generation."
  • The Mole: Posed as the guardian Tobor.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Before Dimitri came back, Moritori Rex was one of the oldest Legionnaires outliving his son Luger and even his grandson Kragok.
  • Put on a Bus: Was cast into the Twilight Cage along with the Brotherhood of Guardians (bar Knuckles and Locke) by Dr. Finitevus; not returning due to legal matters.

     Xenin

One of the Dark Legion's strongest soldiers. Xenin acts as an enforcer whenever Dimitri or Kragok have something planned.

  • The Brute: In contrast to the other named Dark Legionarres in authority, Xenin is a field agent largely there to provide the muscle for his superiors. He's quite strong to, dispatching both General Stryker and Knuckles.
  • Fantastic Racism: He dislikes Dingoes quite a bit.
  • Killed Off for Real: He was a victim of the Egg Grapes.
  • Mauve Shirt: In contrast to the nameless and faceless Dark Legion mooks, Xenin was given a distinctive design and more of a personality. He was also given a fairly concrete fate in contrast to most of his allies who were left hanging.
  • Mook Lieutenant: He leads a dispatch of Legionarres during operations.

     Menniker
The Founder and first Grandmaster of the Dark Legion. The son of Dimitri and the father of Moritori Rex.

The Destructix

A mercenary group made up of criminals. While they hardly get involved in problems of their world they nevertheless cause all manner of trouble for the Freedom Fighters.

     The Destructix as a whole
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/destructix_7139.jpg

  • Enemy Mine: Forms a brief one with Sonic, Sally, Tails and Monkey Khan while raiding the Raiju Clan base in the Dragon Kingdom.
  • Hired Guns: They've had a number of bosses over the series and hardly ever work for themselves. The only time they did was to bust out Scourge.
  • Mook Carryover: The Fearsome Foursome debuted as Mammoth Mogul's minions. After his imprisonment they reformed under Snively for a time. After leaving his employ with Sleuth they formed the Destructix and went back to serving Mogul before leaving his service and working under Fiona then Scourge.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • True Companions: A villainous example, as the original Fearsome Foursome look out for one another as shown in the Journey to the East arc. Simian, Hawk and Flying were depressed after Lightning rejoined the Raiju Clan and absolutely refused to with Fiona's plan until they got Lightning back in the group. As Simian stated, all four of them have been together regardless of who leads them.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Downplayed. When Angel Island devolves into civil war, the Destrutix are seen as the most heroic faction as Finitevus has them defend the non-combatents from the Dingos and warring Dark Legion as a way to make himself seem trustworthy to Locke. While the Echidnas think highly of them, it never really changes their position in the world as they're still seen as dangerous and untrustworthy mercenaries and news of their good deeds didn't go beyond Angel Island.

     Scourge the Hedgehog
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Scourge_2553.png

Formerly known as the Anti-Sonic, Sonic's Evil Doppelgänger from an Alternate Universe where the Freedom Fighters are evil. For quite a long time, he was simply a petty self-obsessed recurring nuisance who would spawn many a Clear My Name plot and occasionally team up with a more legitimately threatening villain... until exposure to the Master Emerald turned him green and evoked a major attitude adjustment, leading him to reinvent himself as "Scourge", a more truly psychotic version of the main character who ascended into a position of formidable antagonist in his own right. He's become a flagship Archie-original character, the first to get his own 4-issue Sonic Universe arc.

  • Aborted Arc: The last we see of him is that he and his gang had broken out of jail and wound up back his dimension. Fiona mentions they had to do something for Dr Finitevus which Scourge was needed for. But he stated he had his own plans in mind. However, due to the Cosmic Retcon, we'll never get to see either of these come to fruition.
  • Alternate Self: Sonic's Evil Doppelgänger from a Mirror Universe.
  • Ascended Glitch: The first issue of Sonic Super Special magazine confirms that his green appearance and black crown is based on Ashura, the Fan Nickname for a glitch that turns Sonic green in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: He took over Moebius/Anti-Mobius by simply beating up various warlords across the planet, and the Anti-Freedom Fighters/Suppression Squad follow his lead largely because he beat them into submission.
  • Bad Boss: He assumed control of the Anti-Freedom Fighters/Suppression Squad by brutally beating them all into submission and they really only continue to follow his lead out of fear. Ergo, they hold no true loyalty for him and they gladly and readily betray him when the opportunity comes up.
    • To emphasize this, it's implied that Scourge may have gouged out Patch's eye, just to make him look different to the Antoine of Mobius.
  • Big Bad: Finally earned this status during the "Bold New Moebius" arc.
  • Big Bad Wannabe:
    • As Anti-Sonic, he was this for a long time, as he liked to talk tough, but was ultimately nothing more than a Butt-Monkey who was constantly pushed around by the other villains and got beat up easily by the heroes, to the extent a pre-Character Development Antoine once knocked him out cold, by accident. Then, a dose of Chaos energy directly from the Master Emerald transformed him into Scourge, granting him several dozen levels of badass and making him one of the series' most powerful villains. He's still not on the level of Dr. Eggman or Finitevus, but he's definitely a credible solo threat these days; he's even managed to conquer all of Moebius by himself.
    • Even then, however, as pointed out by Sonic, Jules and even Fiona, Scourge's conquest of Moebius wasn't really impressive since, unlike Mobius, his world isn't full of powerful villains and monsters. All he did was beat up various warlords across the planet and believed that made him king. When he came to Mobius, nobody but the Freedom Fighters considered him a threat and he was nearly defeated by Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge, the latter of whom was literally put together by Eggman at the last minute.
  • Break the Haughty: After being arrested by the Zone Cops and locked in Zone Jail, Scourge suffers this big time. Left defenseless by a Power Nullifier collar, he's left at the bottom of the pecking order at the prison and subjected to constant beatings and abuse that leave him a bitter, scared, paranoid shadow of his former self. When Fiona allows herself to be arrested to save him, she's shocked at how far Scourge has fallen.
  • Breakout Villain: After becoming Scourge, He became one of the most popular characters to have originated from the comic. As such, he gained his own Sonic Universe storyline.
  • The Bully: At his core, Scourge is nothing more than a superpowered bully who enjoys flaunting his power and superiority over others. He runs the Suppression Squad through fear and loves talking a big game, but when a fight proves to be harder than expected or faced with someone who isn't intimidated by him, he tends to back down immediately. Sonic outright sums him up as one in issue 196 after defeating him.
Scourge: Cheated... me... I'm... King... Conquered... This whole planet... You're... nothing...
Sonic: [swats the crown off of Scourge's head, shattering it completely] You're a bully and that's it. You take the easy, nasty way out and get the quick reward. Big whoop. I do things the right way. I help others to make something bigger and better than just mean. The good guys always win in the long run. And there isn't anybody who can run longer or better than I can.
  • Butt-Monkey: Prior to becoming Scourge, this was all he ever was.
  • The Casanova: Has been involved with Anti-Bunnie, Anti-Sally, Anti-Penelope, and Fiona.
    • Also, whilst impersonating Sonic for a time, he hit on, amongst others, the Mobius Prime versions of Bunnie, Amy, and Rouge. There's even a subtle indication in issue #150 that he and Bunnie-Prime actually slept together, due to his taking advantage of her hurt and confusion over Antoine being stealthily replaced by Patch. It's pretty disgusting when you realize that Scourge is only 15 years old.
  • Clone Angst: A downplayed example, with an evil Alternate Self than Sonic's actual clone, but the basic principle is the same. In issue 172, Scourge taunts Sonic, boasting that the reason Sonic hates him so much is because he knows they're the same guy and all it would take is "one bad day" to make Sonic into him. Sonic turns it around by pointing out that all it would take is just a little kindness and selflessness to make Scourge just like him; these words shock Scourge to his core, leading him to embark on a quest to make himself more than just Sonic's Evil Doppelgänger, and Anti-Mobius more than just a Mirror Universe.
  • Cool Shades: It's one of the few things, aside from his leather jacket, that he's retained since his days as Anti-Sonic. Although the 90s version had a different outfit.
  • Dirty Coward: He was accused of being one by Prime Jules in issue #192, and is proven right by the fact that Scourge tried to sneak into Sonic's house to attack him while he was sleeping despite being a self-professed world-conquering "king". When Scourge tries to threaten Jules' life, the robian doesn't back down and matter-of-factually states that unlike Scourge's father, Jules was a war veteran and wouldn't simply lay down and die, and killing him would make Sonic truly livid. This is all it takes to force Scourge to retreat in tears.
  • Evil Feels Good: Inverted. his Super Scourge form lasts forever and is even stronger than Super Sonic, but makes him feel awful, in contrast to how Sonic feels great when becoming Super Sonic.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Though most of the Moebius ladies hate him for his cheating, he does seem to genuinely love Fiona.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • When Scourge goes in with a half baked plan to hurt Sonic by attacking his father, Jules gives Scourge a stern dressing down. Jules's accusation that Scourge, having lost his own father, would inflict that onto Sonic seems to actually affect Scourge on an emotional level. Though he blows Jules off, Scourge is crying as he leaves.
    • Is horrified by how Ax-Crazy Flying Frog reveals himself to be when the latter tells Scourge his backstory.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: He's Sonic from a Mirror Universe. Though he's trying to make himself more than that (maybe).
  • For the Evulz: He has no clear motive for his evil beyond being drunk on his own strength and making Prime!Sonic's life utter hell, though this ranges anywhere from picking scraps with him to trying to destroy his respective universe.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Two jagged-looking scars on his chest (injuries from a fight with Knuckles's father, Locke) are the easiest way to tell him from his counterpart. Well, besides the fact he's green, anyway.
  • Green and Mean: Scourge's fur turned green as a result of absorbing energy from the Master Emerald.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Part of his "evil opposite" look. He's sported this look since he was simply Anti-Sonic, and it's one of the only things he retains after transforming into Scourge.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In his last battle with Sonic, he taps into Anarchy Beryls, his universe equivalent to Chaos Emeralds, and goes super. He proves too powerful, even with both the Freedom Fighters, Suppression Squad, Rob O'the Hedge, and Silver working together, forcing Sonic to briefly retreat. However Sonic realizes something about his power and coax Scourge into depowering by appealing to his ego to beat him in a normal state. Scourge falls for it and finds himself too weak to move. Sonic then explains: Chaos Emeralds in his world give him a little boost when he comes out of it. But since this is an alternate/opposite world, Anarchy Beryls saps Scourge of his energy when he comes out of his super state, kind of like when Shadow takes off his rings. And since this was apparently the first time Scourge used them, he was completely ignorant of this fact. The dope ends up knocking himself out with Sonic not even having to touch him.
  • Hypocrite: He taunts Sonic over losing Sally after the infamous "slap", but he himself got dumped by Anti-Sally/Alicia after she grew disappointed of his skills as a leader and traded him for Anti-Geoffrey/Jeffery.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Fear and Power. Scourge controls the Suppression Squad and Destructix by beating them into submission and making them terrified of him. In fact, this is how he controls most people he works with, as Jules-Prime notes. When confronted by someone who won't back down to his threats or let themselves be cowed by him, Scourge folds like a lawn chair.
  • Jerkass: Unlike Sonic, who can be a real jerk but is a hero through and through, Scourge is Sonic, but without the qualities that make Sonic a hero. Highlights of his dickery including pointing and laughing when Fiona brutally rejects Tails and slaps him across the face, and casting the terminally ill Buns/Anti-Bunnie out of his gang.
  • Multiversal Conqueror: After conquering Moebius, he invades Mobius Prime with the intent to conquer it as well.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • He's Sonic but with his negative qualities punctuated ten fold. Sonic himself in fact defeats his super form just by playing to the same vices he has; namely by playing to his ego and impulsiveness.
    • He loves making speeches to Sonic about their similarities noting that "One Bad Day" (a la the Joker) would turn Sonic into him. Sonic, by contrast, turns it on him saying that a bit of selflessness and decency would turn Scourge into him. While the latter words horrify Scourge and motivate him to make a truly despicable power play, the former end up ringing through Sonic's head as he starts to reach breaking point from several losses during the Mecha Sally arc, causing him to gain a Heroic Second Wind. Essentially both accidentally prevented their own theories becoming true, simply because it ensured the other would be adamant to prove them wrong.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: As Anti-Sonic, he was nothing but a common hoodlum who was knocked out by pre-Character Development Antoine of all people, by accident. His transformation into Scourge gave him a chance to finally prove to Sonic and the other heroes just how dangerous he really is.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: In issue #196, Super Scourge declares that, due to Sonic's resistance, he's decided to give up his plans to rule Moebius or Mobius. Instead, he plans on spin-dashing both planets in half, just because he can, before going on to find other worlds to devastate, swearing to stomp them all until he finally finds one that gives him the respect he feels he deserves.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Discussed in issue 197. Zonic mentions that Scourge's Master Emerald mutation has made him a Wild Card in the cosmic scheme of things, hence why the Zone Cops didn't arrest him for repeatedly overstepping his Zone boundaries and attacking Mobius Prime until Sonic brought him to them.
  • Palette Swap: Justified, given that he is a mirror-universe Sonic. Initially averted, as Anti-Sonic was blue, but turning green was part of his motivation to try and be more than just "Sonic's stupid punk counterpart".
  • Paper Tiger: He loves to talk big, but folds like a lawn chair when someone who isn't afraid stands up to him or a fight is harder than he anticipated.
  • Parental Neglect: From what we've seen, his father was too busy to pay attention to him. Before fleeing at the end of issue #192, an angry, weeping Scourge dismissively spits that Jules-Prime's no different to his Moebius counterpart.
Scourge: Just a bunch of empty words. You're no different from my old man after all.
  • Power-Up Full Color Change: His fur changed from blue to green after absorbing energy from the Master Emerald. His Super State turns his fur purple.
  • Power-Strain Blackout: How Sonic manages to defeat Super Scourge. With the knowledge of how Moebius is a Mirror Universe to Mobius, Sonic goads Scourge into turning off his Super Mode by taunting him about how he never had a prayer of beating him in a fair one-on-one. When Scourge turns off his transformation in a fury to prove him wrong, he suddenly collapses in exhaustion, utterly confused on where his strength went before Sonic explains that he figured if Scourge's transformation truly runs on opposing rules to his own (that being Super Sonic is a temporary state but Sonic leaves it feeling reenergized), then Scourge leaving his self-sustaining Super Mode would cripple him and he just proved him right.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His Super Scourge form has purple fur, along with Black Eyes of Crazy mixed with Red Eyes, Take Warning.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot, as well as all evil Sonics in general. While technically a Penders creation, the Scourge re-branding and design was Ian's concept.
  • Really Gets Around: On top of being involved with Anti-Bunnie, Anti-Sally, Anti-Penelope, and Fiona, he briefly impersonated Sonic on Mobius just to flirt with the Prime versions of nearly every girl in Sonic's life.
  • Self-Made Orphan: It's heavily implied that he killed his neglectful father Anti-Jules. As he said to Jules, "Sonic's dad isn't a Mobian anymore. My dad simply isn't." We have no clue what happened to his mother, but she's likely dead or roboticized.
  • Secondary Color Nemesis: Before becoming Scourge, Evil-Sonic had blue fur just like Sonic. After exposure to the Master Emerald, his fur turned green and he gained a boost in strength and stamina. He also had a super state of his own, which turns his fur purple.
  • Shadow Archetype: He's Sonic with all of his negative qualities ramped up, and very few, if any, of his positive ones, and is living, breathing proof of what our hero would become if he went down a dark path. Scourge is fully aware of this, and gloats in issue 172 that this is why Sonic hates him so much. Come issue 236, Sonic, after suffering through Sally's roboticization, Antoine's near-fatal Heroic Sacrifice saving Elias' family, and Silver's Inspector Javert tendencies at the worst possible time, is pushed to his Rage Breaking Point, and only by recalling Scourge's prior "one bad day" speech does he manage to pull himself back.
  • Shout-Out: In Issue 172, he claims that the only thing it would take to make Sonic like him is "one bad day."
  • Smug Snake: Scourge is cocky and arrogant, and loves to talk a big game, but is mostly, if not entirely, dependent on fear to keep people in line, and when a fight turns out to be harder than anticipated or when someone actually stands up to him, he tends to fold and run. He takes great delight in boasting about how he conquered Moebius, but even Fiona points out it's not very impressive since unlike Mobius Prime, his world isn't full of powerful villains and monsters, and his takeover amounted to simply beating up various warlords. Best shown in issue 191, where he's utterly curb-stomped in a straight fight by Metal Sonic, and is later overwhelmed by Metal Scourge, who Eggman literally threw together and sent after him on the fly. In the end, he needs to use his Super Mode in order to finally get the decisive edge on Sonic and his friends, and even then Sonic pointing out that he needed a crutch to win and that he could never beat him in a fair one-on-one causes Super Scourge to throw away that advantage in a blind rage of pride and fly straight into a Power-Strain Blackout after willfully powering down.
  • Super Mode: The craziest looking one in the series. It's essentially Super Sonic but purple instead of gold with Black Eyes of Crazy on top of Red Eyes, Take Warning, and his fangs seem to sharpen even further which doesn't help his Psychotic Smirk and Slasher Smile tendencies.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Upon realizing that Rosy was right there waiting for him when he was forced back to Moebius, his reaction is a plaintive "Oh, please no..."
    • Yelling at Fiona "I almost got sent back home! You do NOT want to be sent back with ME!".
  • Took a Level in Badass: Before becoming Scourge: a petty wannabe punk who was just a two-bit player in the grand scheme of things. After becoming Scourge: a world-conquering psychopath who beat up both Sonic and all his allies and almost destroyed No Zone.
  • Unholy Matrimony: With Fiona. He's stated that he prefers her to the girls in Moebius because rather than being evil by default, she chose to be evil. And apparently Scourge finds that hot.
  • Villain Protagonist: Of the "Jail Break" arc in Sonic Universe.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When the Suppression Squad betrayed him, he decided to go Super and "spindash both worlds in half" for the Hell of it.
  • We Can Rule Together: In issue #191, Scourge takes time during the Mêlée à Trois between himself, Sonic and Metal Sonic to offer Sonic the chance to rule the multiverse together.

     Fiona Fox
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Fiona_6728.png
Click here to see her after turning evil

Former Freedom Fighter gone bad. Tails' one-time crush and Sonic's one-time girlfriend.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: She dated Scourge/Anti-Sonic, who impersonated Prime Sonic at the time. She attempted to form an actual relationship to Sonic afterwards, at Tails' expense, only to realize she is more attracted to Scourge's bad boy attitude. She started cheating on Sonic before finally revealing her true colors to him the moment she was outed by Amy.
  • Arch-Enemy: To both Tails and Sally.
  • Consummate Liar: Turns out she had been lying to just about everyone for a while.
  • Dark Action Girl: Tough enough to be a match for many of the non-superpowered characters, and clever and resourceful enough to frequently get the drop on those stronger than her as well.
  • Evil Redhead: Her fur is red too.
  • Evil Costume Switch: With her Face–Heel Turn, she switches from her white and orange jumpsuit and boots, to an all-black ensemble including a tanktop, pants, boots and long fingerless gloves.
  • Face–Heel Turn: She was genuinely on the Freedom Fighters' side before her attraction to Scourge led her astray.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Particularly pronounced when she first defects to Scourge and Tails is tearfully begging her not to go. Fiona kneels down to him, gently tells him that for all of his smarts, he hasn't realized the most fundamental thing in life is that "you can't count on anybody"... before backhanding him with enough force to knock him off his feet, all with a gigantic smirk on her face.
  • Femme Fatale: Prior to her turn to the dark side and full-blown Vamp status.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: As a child, Fiona was imprisoned by Dr. Robotnik during his rise to power along with Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. After a failed breakout, she and the boys were confined separately, which lasted until Sonic arrived and they all attempted to rescue her. In the ensuing chaos, Robotnik seized Fiona and moved her to another facility, where she would ultimately be abandoned to die. Sonic and Mighty never came for her.
  • Foul Fox: Understandably, she developed a grudge against Sonic and Mighty for becoming their Forgotten Fallen Friend, and over time, her grudge worsened the darker aspects of her personality, until eventually, she fell from grace entirely and became an outright villain. Fiona has a history of mild illegal activity, including robbery. She's also extremely clever and has an acute memory. However, she is clearly reluctant to talk about her past. When she chose to follow a darker path in life (likely due to her past), she developed a relationship with Scourge, Sonic's Evil Counterpart, preferring him to the virtuous real deal.
  • Freudian Excuse: Abandonment issues. Basically, she used to be on the Freedom Fighters' side years ago, but her cell was captured and she was never rescued — instead, she luckily managed to dig herself out of the prison she was abandoned inside of after two years rather than starving to death like Robotnik planned. She's never forgiven either her family for disappearing nor the Freedom Fighters, mainly Sonic, for failing to save her.
  • History Repeats: Tails has had his heart broken by the betrayal of both Auto-Fiona in issue #29 and the real Fiona in issue #172.
  • Hypocrite: She tells Tails that he can't count on or trust anyone when she betrays the Freedom Fighters in 172. Later when she returns with the Suppression Squad who later betrays Scourge, but she stays loyal to him, something which Sonic calls her out on after she goes off and state how she won't trust or count on anyone. Sonic's words cause her to break into tears and deny the whole thing, which obviously he does not buy. Even after Scourge goes to jail, she gets the Destructix and breaks him out, almost saying that she loves him. It's made pretty clear that Fiona can't follow her own advice.
  • Jack of All Trades: As stated in The Complete Sonic Comic Encyclopedia, Fiona is well-rounded in many skills:
    • Trained Field Medic
    • Field Combatant
    • Seasoned Thief and Treasure Hunter
    • Smart enough to briefly work with Brain Trust
  • Ignored Epiphany: After Sonic's return from space, Fiona admits to him that his Heroic Sacrifice against the Xorda is what finally convinced her that he truly was a valiant hero, having convinced herself otherwise after he unintentionally left her behind in Robotnik's lab. Upon her defection to Scourge in issue 172, Fiona has disregarded this and throws his failure to save her in his face, telling Tails that he can't count on or trust anyone and using Sonic as her "prime example".
  • Kick the Dog: Does it frequently, but the nastiest instance of it by far is telling Tails, who had a crush on her, that he can't trust anyone and then slapping him, all with a gleeful smirk on her face.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Fiona is on the receiving end of this from Sally (specifically, she gets punched in the stomach) for trying to manipulate Tails' feelings again. Sonic, Monkey Khan, and even Tails himself all agree Fiona more than deserved it and cheer her on:
Sonic: Actually, I thought it was kind of hot!
Monkey Khan: Totally in agreement there!
Tails: Yeah! Next time you should hit her again!
  • Love-Interest Traitor: To both Sonic and Tails. Sonic settles with her after the hedgehog's breakup with Sally, while Tails had a crush on her since his encounter with her robot double. Both were eventually left in the dust when it was revealed she formed a more meaningful relationship with Sonic's evil counterpart, Scourge.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Was seeing Scourge while dating Sonic, and lying about it the whole time.
  • Never My Fault: She does acknowledge her actions sometimes, but under stress, she's more than willing to shift the blame.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Sonic and Mighty unknowingly left her behind in a remote prison while persuing Robotnik, forcing her to break out by herself. She had held that grudge for years and was one of the reasons why she dumped Sonic for Scourge.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • The Real Remington Steele: The real-life version of the fox robot Tails met so long ago during his solo adventure.
  • Robot Me: The original "Fiona" (a creation of Mike Gallagher) was a Robot Girl fox built by the original Robotnik and designed to play the Damsel in Distress in order to trap Tails—she was later rewritten by Ken Penders to be a Rotten Robotic Replacement for a Forgotten Fallen Friend. Ian Flynn would later refer to the Robot Girl as Auto-Fiona.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: During her betrayal, when Sonic tries saying that what happened to her in the past is no excuse for betraying her friends now, she cuts him off by simply slapping him away with her tail and telling him to "shut up already".
  • Smug Snake: After her Face–Heel Turn.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female in the Destructix.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: When she starts crying and denying that she trusts and depends on Scourge, Sonic just leaves her while muttering "keep telling yourself that," with a pitying look on his face.
    • She tries to deliberately invoke it while Sonic, Sally, Tails, and Ken were on their diplomatic mission in hopes of swaying Tails to help her. However, Sally is there this time and responds with a punch to the gut. Very cathartic if you've read her betrayal to Tails beforehand.
  • "Take That!" Kiss: Once her relationship with Scourge is revealed and she betrays the Freedom Fighters, she officially ends her relationship with Sonic by mockingly blowing him a goodbye kiss before leaving with Scourge.
Fiona: So long, handsome. It was fun while it lasted.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Implied that this is the reason why she defected from the Freedom Fighters towards Scourge's side, as she got met with suspicion and distrust by the other freedom fighters after when her shady past got releaved, upsetting her and making her feel that she wouldn't be allowed to let it go. Contrasting that with Scourge's attention that likely inspired her to fully embrace the villain life.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Fiona is the villainous girly girl to Sally Acorn's heroic tomboy. Sally is a Tomboy Princess who has a very unfeminine appearance, and is a character especially divergent from stereotypes associated with females. Fiona does have a pretty rough attitude and her appearance isn't completely girly, but the bow and skirt still make it more so than Sally's. Also, Fiona is a Femme Fatale and The Vamp who uses her feminine charms to manipulate male characters like Tails, much to the annoyance and disgust of Sally, who once gave Fiona a violent gut punch for doing this. Interestingly, Fiona often mocks Sally for her princess status, calling her a "sugar queen", despite Sally being more tomboyish than her.
  • Unholy Matrimony: With Scourge. And if there was any doubt as to whether she actually loved him, she goes through the trouble of reorganizing the Destructix as her personal goon squad and letting herself be arrested by the Zone Cops, all in order to break him out of jail.
  • The Vamp: To Tails. She knows Tails likes her, and she has tried to exploit it.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Both emotionally and physically. She not only breaks Tails' heart right to his face, she has the nerve to give him a brutal and unprovoked slap just to rub salt in the wound. And going from the smile on her face, she enjoyed every moment of it. And even afterward, she has the gall to still exploit his feelings towards her.

     Sleuth "Dawgy" Dawg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-sleuth_217.jpg

Traitor to the Freedom Fighters and one of the founders of the Destrutix.

  • Badass Normal: No powers or machinery, dude only fought with a blaster and his wits.
  • Karma Houdini: He betrays the Freedom Fighters and works for Robotnik before his arrest. While he later joins the Destructix and gets his butt kicked now and then, he eventually decides to just pull out of the whole crime thing after having gotten all the money he needed to live out his life comfortably. He eventually decides to retire and vanishes off the face of the planet with a presumed happy ending.
  • Kick the Dog: When he defects to Robotnik he has his partner, Fly Fly Freddy, forcibly roboticized and sent after the Freedom Fighters. The fight ends up killing Freddy.
  • The Leader: Was one to the group before his retirement.
  • Mauve Shirt: Originally he was just a recurring minor Freedom Fighter and less prominent than Hamlin and his group. His importance increased considerably with his treachery.
  • The Mole: His original role was part of Uncle Chuck's spy network, only to reveal himself as Robotnik's double agent.
  • Only in It for the Money: He bounces in and out of this characterization but it sticks later on. When he and the Destructix are fighting Sonic so they can destroy the weapon to kill the brainwashed Knuckles, Sonic does the job for them (Sonic of course not wanting to kill his friend). With that out of the way Sleuth says they're not being paid to stick around any more and the team pulls out. Taken to its logical conclusion when he hands off leadership of the Destructix to Fiona not out of some Heel Realization, but simply because he's saved up enough of a nest egg to be set for life and there's no more need for him to keep being a criminal.
  • Punny Name: He's named after the rapper Snoop "Doggy" Dogg.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot. This cost him an appearance on the cover of issue 258.
  • Retired Monster: In Sonic Universe #15, it is revealed that he not only stepped down as the leader of the Destructix, but outright retired from the whole crime thing altogether stating he had saved up enough to provide for himself, handing leadership of the Destructix to Fiona.
  • Taking You with Me: They attempt to make a deal with Eggman and he, naturally, betrays them and roboticizes the group. Sleuth is the last to go and manages to toss a grenade declaring that if he's gonna go he's not going alone. The whole place blows up, but everyone caught in the explosion returns in some form or another.

     Sergeant Simian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sergeant_simian_3838.jpg

  • Alliterative Name: Both in terms of his villainous moniker and his real name, Simon Simian.
  • Arc Welding: The Guerilla Gorillas showed up a couple years before he did, but seemed to be a perfect fit for his backstory.
  • Badass Bandolier: Part of his getup.
  • The Big Guy: Serves this role in the Destructix.
  • The Comically Serious: Briefly. Monkey Khan's joke about their being cousins (being a monkey and ape respectively), doesn't elicit as much as a smirk from him.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Mighty, among the Chaotix.
  • Genius Bruiser: Bestowed with incredible strength by Mogul and an expert tactician.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: Serves someone if they can prove themselves strong. The fact he doesn't care about that person's morals, only their strength, is what turned him from a Well-Intentioned Extremist into what he is today.
  • Noble Demon: He works for the bad guys, but he does have his own code of honor however and the most disciplined of the crew.
  • The Power Of Teamwork: A rare villainous example. He believes in the benefits of strong teammates.
  • Pun: He's a Guerilla Gorilla. Get it?
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Super-Strength: Naturally given he's an ape Mobian who tends to tower over other Mobians. His fists are just as good breaking things as his weapons.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Simian started out wanting to protect his home from Robotnik's forces, even if that meant going against their rules forbidding the use of guns, and when he left their village he became a one-man guerilla army taking the fight to Robotnik's forces until he was overwhelmed. Since falling in with Mogul after he saved Simian's life and the rest of the Destructix, things have changed.

     Predator Hawk
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/predator_hawk_8867.jpg

  • The Ace: In his backstory.
  • Always Someone Better: In the Armada, he excelled at everything he did, only for the best opportunities to go to the Battle Lord's son. Later, when part of the Rogues, he continued to feel this way towards the group's leader, Jet. Eventually, he had enough, defected and set out on his own.
  • Arc Welding: Revealed to have been part of the Battle Bird Armada and connected to the Babylon Rogues years after his introduction.
  • Blood Knight: Part of why he didn't quite fit in with the Armada or the Rogues is because they didn't give him enough opportunity to satisfy his desire for challenging "prey."
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: He joined the Armada and later the Rogues because he was seeking some higher purpose. Both left him feeling empty and disappointed.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Again, quit both the Armada and the Rogues due to not being rewarded based on ability.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Charmy, in his first appearance.
  • Femme Fatalons: Inverted.
  • Feathered Fiend
  • Odd Name Out: He was part of the original "Fearsome Foursome" group and was the only one whose name was not alliterative.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Token Flyer: The only member of the Destructix with true flight.

     Lightning Lynx
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lightning_lynx_8650.jpg

  • Aborted Arc: He and his allies were all lost to the Cosmic Retcon and so Lightning Lynx never really got around to taking his revenge on the Bride of the Conquering Storm.
  • Alliterative Name: As with almost all of the original "Fearsome Foursome", his first and last names both start with the same letter.
  • Cats Are Mean: He's a cat and an unabashed villainous character.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Espio in his first appearance, and later during the Iron Dominion arc.
  • The Exile: From the Raiju clan. Twice.
  • Fragile Speedster: As his name of "Lightning" suggests, he can move with incredible speed and agility. However, he can't take a hit worth mentioning.
  • Gratuitous Ninja: Revealed to be one during the introduction of the Iron Dominion.
  • Humiliation Conga: During the Iron Dominion arc. Not only is Lightning Lynx subjected to a Curb-Stomp Battle at Sonic's hands, Raiju clan leader Conquering Storm is so disgusted at his loss that she immediately casts him back into exile, effectively tells him that he's useless, and when he tries to protest his love for her she shuts him down mid-sentence and says he's embarassing himself.
  • Kick Them While They Are Down: During the Iron Dominion arc, the Bride of the Conquering Storm sends Lightning Lynx, recently re-inducted into the Raiju Clan, to conduct Combat by Champion against the "Champion of Mobius", only for Lightning to discover he's facing Sonic instead. After Sonic lays the inevitable Curb-Stomp Battle on him, Lightning's humiliation is compounded by the Bride, who is so disgusted by his performance that she immediately casts him back into exile. Lightning sets himself up for another kick in the teeth by protesting that he's in love with her, which only prompts her to coldly shut him down mid-sentence and tell him that he's embarassing himself and to further remind him this was what forced him into exile the first time.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Lightning Lynx is in love with the Bride of the Conquering Storm, which makes his humiliation and punishment at her hands all the more painful. As a result, he doesn't take her exiling him from the Raiju Clan again very well.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Woman Scorned: Gender-Inverted. After his crushing humiliation at the hands of Conquering Storm, the Destructix help Lightning reach some semblance of stability by promising him Revenge against the whole Raiju clan.

     Flying Frog
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flying_frog_6661.jpg

  • Amphibian Assault: Flying Frog is an Ax-Crazy frog and member of the Destructix. In his backstory, Frog was a jester from the Kingdom of Mercia whose idea of a hobby was terrorizing the locals with powerful weapons.
  • Ax-Crazy: This guy enjoys scaring and hurting people more than anything.
  • Alliterative Name Flying Frog; really, what more is there to say? This was actually a common theme for his original team, "The Fearsome Foursome".
  • The Artifact: When he was introduced, he was an Evil Counterpart to the Knuckles Chaotix version of Vector, being a green, amphibious creature notable for his agility in the air. After the Sonic Heroes revamp of Vector into The Big Guy began to appear in the comics, however, this counterpart connection was effectively lost.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: Sonic Universe #32 has a line of dialogue implying he once tried to wear Fiona's clothes.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Vector, in his first appearance at least. He's a big water-dwelling non-mammalian Mobian.
  • Fragile Speedster: He can move extremely fast, even gliding around, but he goes down in one or two good hits.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: Averted. They're flight goggles.
  • Monster Clown: His backstory was that he was originally a clown, but he took more pleasure in scaring people than in entertaining them.
  • Not Quite Flight: Glides around on the flaps of skin connected to his arms and legs.
  • Overly-Long Tongue: Like any comicbook frog, his tongue is absurdly long, and he likes showing it off.
  • Psycho for Hire: More so than the other members of the Destructix, due to his... quirks.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Slasher Smile: He's rarely seen without one.
  • Talkative Loon: So much that it even freaks out Scourge.

The Suppression Squad

     As a Whole

After becoming the Suppression Squad

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_08_26_sonicarchives6_webp_webp_image_600_865_pixels.png
The Anti-Freedom Fighters original look

Scourge's old gang, originally known as the Anti-Freedom Fighters, they are composed entirely of evil versions of the Freedom Fighters from Moebius. Originally they were lead by Evil-Sonic, but the entire gang ditched him after being defeated by their Prime counterparts as well as his one too many failures to deal with Anti-Robotnik, eventually making Evil-St. John the new leader, however they would later kick him off the team as well.

Sometime after Evil-Sonic's transformation into Scourge, he and his new girlfriend Fiona Fox returned to Anti-Mobius using a Warp Ring with a new resolve to set apart and re-make everything on Anti-Mobius to distinguish it from it's Prime counterpart. In a matter of days, Scourge defeated several regional warlords and crowned himself King, taking back control of his old gang and reforming them into the Suppression Squad.

During another invasion of Mobius Prime the gang turned on him once more, having grown tired of Scourge's abusive leadership and willingly working with their Prime counterparts to get rid of him. Scourge was eventually defeated while Fiona fled the scene.

At the present, the Suppression Squad is led by Miles, Tails' alternate counterpart. Their current members are Alicia (Sally's Counterpart and ironically Miles main assistant), Patch (Antoine's counterpart), and Boomer (Rotor's Counterpart). Buns Rabbot (Bunnie's Counterpart) was part of the the group initially but was kicked out of the group because of her N.I.D.S. and left for dead, however she was saved by Dr. Kinbotor (Eggman's counterpart).

  • Divergent Character Evolution: Scourge enforced this amongst the group by making them all differ themselves from their prime counterparts. It also happened in story as well as the Suppression Squad was for the most part Scourge's posse who didn't do all that much beyond helping him pull jobs. Much later in the story the group's personalities became more distinct: Patch had his own story about replacing Antoine, Buns pulled a Heel–Face Turn and works against them, and Miles receives a lot of character focus when the group upgrades themselves.
  • Disability Super Power: Buns Rabbot, whose disease forces her to live inside of the Omega Care Unit. Fortunately for her, said device doubles as Powered Armor...
  • Enemy Mine: They make a truce with the Freedom Fighters to stop Scourge, only to exile both him and Sonic to Moebius. In spite of the betrayal, the Squad did it with the knowledge that they could rescue Sonic fairly easily and felt that isolating Scourge alone with Sonic would result in Sonic's victory.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: During their Enemy Mine with the Freedom Fighters against Scourge, they dump both him and Sonic into Moebius to let them finish each other off. They sincerely don't get at all why the Freedom Fighters are understandably furious about this, having none of the sentimental attachments to each other (let alone their leader) that their Mobius counterparts have among themselves.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: To the Freedom Fighters.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • They have no NICOLE counterpart and their Dr. Kintobor was never killed and replaced with an Anti-Eggman. This means that nanites and New Mobotropolis does not exist on Moebius.
    • Buns was never roboticized and she ended up developing a deadly condition at the base of her spine.
    • Moebius isn't full of powerful villains or strong-willed heroes like the Prime Zone. This means that while the Suppression Squad had an easy time taking over their planet, they weren't prepared for all the dangers of Mobius and their attempt at conquest probably would have ended in quick failure if anyone other than the Freedom Fighters had saw them as a threat.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Buns pulled one after being rescued and placed inside the Omega Care Unit by Dr. Kintobor.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: All of them before their Scourge-enforced makeover.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: The entire group, with the exception of Miles, who sets himself apart from Tails by refusing to be referred to by his nickname.
  • Shout-Out: Nearly every member's name is based off their Prime counterpart's in some way:
    • Boomer was Rotor's old nickname.
    • Miles is Tails' real name.
    • Alicia is Sally's middle name.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Patch was originally the most prominent evil counterpart, even more so than Scourge. However, during the "Moebius" storyline, he's put into the background in favor of Scourge and Miles.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: They all ditch Scourge after he proves an ineffective leader.
  • The Starscream: Most of the squad to different extents. Patch, Miles, and Alicia all tried to overthrow Scourge at different points, with Miles and Alicia succeeding in their attempt.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: The Prime characters agree to help them get rid of Scourge. First chance they get they try to dump both him and Sonic in their world with no way back. After that problem was solved, they're shown still plotting on taking revenge against the Prime zone. Or at least they would've if the Cosmic Retcon didn't happen.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Yes, they're the Evil Twins of the Freedom Fighters, but their lives on Anti-Mobius were anything but pleasant, and they lack the happy families their counterparts possess. When reflecting on the time he spent on Anti-Mobius after Scourge forcibly swapped him with Patch, Antoine reflects that the Suppression Squad wasn't "so much mean as sad" and he actually pities them.

     Princess Alicia Acorn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_08_25_princess_alicia.png

The Moebius counterpart to Sally Acorn, formally known as Anti-Sally (or Evil-Sally) and the (figurehead) leader of the Suppression Squad.

  • Evil Doppelgänger: To Sally, naturally.
  • Puppet Queen: She's perfectly aware that she's just the figurehead leader while Miles is the brains behind the entire gang.
  • The Starscream: A more successful version, as she's managed to usurp her father, Scourge (with Miles' help), and later Jeffrey St. Croix (Anti/Evil-Geoffrey).
  • The Usurper: Unlike in the Prime Zone, both she and Scourge are the ones who overthrew her father; King Maxx, and banished him into the Zone of Silence. What became of the Moebius version of Elias remains unknown.
  • Weapon Specialization: She utilizes a whip as her default weapon in battle.

     Miles Prower
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_08_26_miles.png

The Moebius counterpart to Tails. When Scourge went back to remake the team he made Miles give up his nickname as part of his need to differentiate them from the Mobius counterparts. Miles is, above all else, spiteful, egotistical, and resentful. He's become something akin to the lieutenant under Scourge and Fiona, and leads the Suppression Squad in his absence.

  • Dirty Coward: Miles, whose condescending bravado is a cover up for the fact that he's really a scared little boy.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Miles ascends to team leader after Scourge's defeat, though ultimately this never leads to anything with the reboot.
  • Enfante Terrible: Miles, as if his Psychotic Smirk and his egotistical demeanor weren't big enough hints.
  • Evil Genius: As counter to Tails's role as The Smart Guy. Miles is cunning, ambitious, and an avid scholar in magic.
  • Evil Sorcerer: According to The Complete Sonic Comic Encyclopedia, as part of Miles' distinguishing himself from Tails, he's chosen to study magic instead of technology. This can be seen in comic when Miles chastises Tails for not following in his magical heritage.
  • Hypocrite: Miles insults Tails for using a "childish" nickname, even though the only reason he stopped using it was that Scourge made him.
  • Important Haircut: Miles is hinted to both do this and color his hair in order to appear older, in addition to trying to differentiate himself from Tails. Some fans like to joke that it's a toupee.
  • Insufferable Genius: Miles.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Miles graduates to this during the Bold New Moebius arc.
  • Psychotic Smirk: Miles is fond of these, sometimes they make him look intimidating, sometimes they make him look like a child pretending to be intimidating.
  • The Starscream: Originally loyal to Scourge, he eventually convinced the rest of the Suppression Squad to turn on him, and soon after set himself up as their new leader.

     Patch D'Coolette
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_08_26_patch_dcoolette.png

The Moebius counterpart to Antoine. He was one of the first to distinguish himself from simply being an Evil Knockoff when Scourge exiled him to Mobius. In Mobius Patch took on Antoine's identity and carefully set about to usurp the throne and place himself in charge.

  • Ascended Extra: Patch was one of the first of the Moebius group to have an arc and also the first to majorly depart from the role as Scourge's lackey.
  • Beard of Evil: He had a blond goatee but Scourge shaved it off with a spin attack. Minus the Goatee and eye patch, Patch could easily pass as Antoine.
  • Dirty Coward: Played With. Patch is, on the surface, much braver than Antoine; he's always ready to get his hands dirty, he can fight quite well, and he's always upfront about his hatred of Scourge. Though scratch the surface, and Antoine is much more willing to keep fighting when things go south while Patch is more likely to cut and run.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Patch wears one, hence the name, and has done since he was just "Anti-Antoine". Though initially the eyepatch was cosmetic, Scourge decided to make it necessary.
  • Eye Scream: Implied. When Sonic and the gang come to Freedom HQ to try and stop Scourge, a very nervous Patch notes that his eyepatch used to be just for show. The obvious implication here is that Scourge gouged it out just to make Patch more distinctive from his Prime self.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Especially noticeable when posing as Antoine. Patch puts on the facade of a gentleman and knight but there are an underlying venom and condescension to his pleasantries.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He has a very prominent scar down the left side of his face. In issue 156, Sonic even points out that it's one of the major clues that he's not the real Antoine; aside from the fact that the prime Antoine was never much of a fighter and lacked a killer instinct, no one, not even Bunnie, knew where or how he got it.
  • Karma Houdini: Patch impersonated Antoine for over a year, tried to trick Sally into marrying him in order to gain the throne, murdered Antoine's father and poisoned King Max, resulting in him becoming crippled and senile. However, despite causing more harm to the Prime Zone than Scourge ever did, he is neither arrested by the Zone Cops or imprisoned by the Kingdom of Acorn. Sonic simply dumped him back on Moebius after his cover was blown.
  • Kick the Dog: While impersonating Antoine, Patch goes above and beyond to destroy his life, destroying many of his possessions, ransacking his house, breaking Bunnie's heart, and poisoning his father to death. The next time they meet, Patch goes the extra mile by rubbing in Antoine's face how he killed Armand.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In addition to impersonating the real Antoine, he tried to take over the Kingdom of Acorn by marrying Sally and poisoning King Max. He was thwarted but he ended up causing the death of Antoine's father.
  • Master Poisoner: He poisoned both King Max and Antoine's father using a toxin native to his own dimension, with doctors on Mobius being unable to pinpoint the cause of their deteriorating health until after Patch was exposed. By the time they do, the damage is done; Max is left wheelchair-bound once again, and Armand, who was given much heavier doses thanks to Patch lacing his food with it, ends up dying in the hospital.
  • Near-Villain Victory: He successfully impersonated his prime counterpart for an entire year, and came close to taking over the Kingdom of Acorn by poisoning King Max and marrying Sally. He only fails at the end because Elias decided to take the throne in place of his father, and Patch's subsequent attempt to kill Elias leads to him being found out and Sonic booting him back to Moebius.
  • Nothing Up My Sleeve: When Elias takes the throne, Patch attempts to poison him with a hypodermic needle hidden up his sleeve, offering him a handshake. However, before he can do so, Sonic sees the glint of the syringe in the light and puts a stop to it very quickly.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Anti-Sonic got sick of Patch's repeated Starscream tendencies and banished him to Mobius Prime. Once there, Patch decided to use the situation to his advantage to seize power and take over the Kingdom of Acorn.
  • Out of Focus: Patch was at one point, the most prominent of the Moebius residents. However with Anti-Sonic's ascension into Scourge and the Suppression Squad coming back, Patch went back to being a standard lackey with Miles and Scourge taking focus.
  • The Starscream: Patch would always try and kill Anti-Sonic and take power for himself to the point where it had just become a regular topic of conversation amongst the Suppression-Squad. Scourge got tired of it and kicked him to Mobius, which ended up backfiring and giving Patch a better life. Even Scourge was jealous of how good Patch had it there.
  • Would Hurt a Child: When Elias derails his plans, Patch immediately plots to kill him, and then his wife Meg and stepdaughter Alexis, to ensure his ascent to the throne. Keep in mind that Alexis is a baby.

     Boomer Walrus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_08_26_boomer.png

The Moebius counterpart to Rotor. Boomer is the team's tech expert, at one point helping Sonic get back to Mobius Prime when Scourge, then Anti-Sonic, stranded him on Moebius. When Scourge came back and revamped the team, Boomer happily took to replacing his body parts with machinery.

  • Cyborg: He integrated himself with some permanent Power Armor.
  • Evil Counterpart: While he's the Anti-Rotor, Boomer, post upgrade, is an evil mirror of Bunnie especially as Bunnie's Moebius counterpart defected. During their fight, Bunnie expresses surprise that Boomer would willingly alter his body for power especially as her own roboticization was unwilling.
  • Evil Genius: Whips up inventions and all manner of sinister gismos for the team to use.
  • Make Some Noise: Boomer's cybernetic upgrades come with sonic blasters built into his forearms.
  • Satellite Character: While Boomer has done a few things on his own, notably sending Sonic home when Scourge tossed him to Moebius, he's easily the least developed compared to the other Suppression Squad members and mostly exists as a tag along. In some ways this is a similarity he has with Rotor as Rotor found himself struggling to stay relevant in the changing times.

Iron Dominion

     The Iron Queen (Regina Ferrum)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Iron_Queen3_9327.png

A technomage who controlled the Dragon Kingdom with her partner The Iron King. First seen as a more typical sorceress and reappeared later, revamped, to take control of the Eggman Empire after Eggman lost his mind.

  • Ambiguously Human: She looked like a human, but was married to the Iron King, an ox. A fan writing in for clarification was told she was actually a badger. However, when she was brought back it turned out The Queen is indeed human (an Overlander to be specific), and the titles "King" and "Queen" are purely honorary (so she's not an animal or in any sort of Interspecies Marriage).
  • Amplifier Artifact: Used a Power Ring to amplify her staff.
  • Big Bad: Of the "Iron Dominion" arc (while Eggman was incapacitated by a Villainous Breakdown.)
  • Black Magic: Her first appearance had her using actual magic as opposed to Magitek.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Upon her defeat at the hands of Sonic, she shouts out Robotnik's often-repeated statement of: "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!"
  • Characterization Marches On: In her first appearance she used actual magic, spoke more informally, and struggled to take over a small area of the Dragon Kingdom.
  • Cruel Mercy: The Iron Queen's sadistic nature is such that she often abandons a battle once she feels she's sufficiently dealt enough demoralization and suffering. Best shown when she takes control of Monkey Khan and uses him to kill the Dragon Kingdom Freedom Fighters, releasing her control over him just to gloat over how she turned him into her "divine weapon."
  • Dragon Lady: In the final clash.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Initially it seemed she was using Snively for her own ends. But when he actually came looking for her during his defection from Eggman, she actually returns his feelings for her.
  • Humiliation Conga: She had seemingly taken over New Metropolis, could control it at her whim and had the four houses and the Dark Egg Legion as a grand army with Iron King acting as an enforcer. Victory seemed well assured...then Nicole broke free from her control and strung her along until Sonic returned to which she turned on her. Ken informs the clans their leaders have broken ties with the Iron Dominion to which the clans promptly abandon her. Lien-Da seizes the opportunity to betray her (though that problem Regina does manage to solve by activating Lien-Da’s explosive in her cybernetics and putting her on the brink of death but this forces the Legion to flee as a result), the Iron King is sent flying through the stratosphere by Ken, Snively turns tail and goes crawling back to Eggman leaving her to fend for herself against the Freedom Fighters. She tries one last feeble attack by using the nanites to turn into a dragon. But when it's clear she's outnumbered and outgunned by the heroes, she tries to retreat, only for Sonic to stop her and drop her right in the middle of the Freedom Fighters to which she's quickly arrested. And all of that in one issue. -Whistles-
  • Magitek: She can control the electrical impulses found in all active electronics and send him out at will. As you can imagine, she's quite dangerous to opponents who are partly or completely robotic. And especially to environments controlled by them.
  • Meaningful Name: Regina means queen, Ferrum means iron.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Even in print, it manages to be grating.
  • Playing with Fire: In her original appearance she set Mount Stormtop on fire via magic.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot — though she is actually a Frank Strom creation.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: She wears a red-and-black striped dress.
  • Retcon: Originally she used actual magic; in her reappearance she was stated to use technomagic.
  • Sadist: Regina deeply enjoys making people suffer, both physically and mentally, to the extent she'll abandon a battle once she deems a sufficient amount of demoralization has been dealt.
  • Shout-Out: To Princess Iron Fan from Journey to the West.
  • Start of Darkness: A backstory fleshes hers out — she was born into a "technomancy" cult, and trained in Magitek as a child. She never knew she was doing anything illegal until they were all arrested and she was ultimately exiled, with no friends or any place to go, just as the great war was breaking out. She became a villain to claw her way back to power, restore her cult's status, and get revenge.
  • Technopath: She has the ability to control machinery with her magic.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: The statuesque Iron Queen dating the four-foot-tall Snively.
  • Unholy Matrimony: With Snively. Though it would seem each of them were to an extent using each other to advance their own positions, there's some genuine mutual affection there too.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Her last appearance in the comic has her become this to Eggman, as he's made her one of his Grandmasters, but she isn't aware that the "Snively" who's with her is a robot duplicate, meaning Eggman most likely knows her plans.
  • Vain Sorceress

     The Iron King (Jun Kun)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Iron_king_1_3118.png
A super strong, nigh-invulnerable ox Warlord from the Dragon Kingdom, The Iron King is the Iron Queen's partner in crime and the co-ruler of the Iron Dominion. Born with the name Jun Kun, he was initially a petty warlord with aims of conquering the Dragon Kingdom, and allowed the technomage Regina Ferrum to live in his territory so long as she used her powers to serve his purposes. The two eventually became partners, but even with Regina's powers they proved unable to hold on to power or conquer either the Free People of the Kingdom or the Ninja Clans they warred against. This changed once they received backing from Dr. Robotnik to become Sub-Bosses, establishing the Iron Dominion and conquering the Free Peoples even though the Ninja Clans still escaped their influence. He would later join the Iron Queen in trying to take Eggman's empire for their own, clashing with Sonic and the Freedom Fighters several times before finally being defeated along with the Iron Queen. His current whereabouts are unknown.
  • Achilles' Heel: Being a Mighty Glacier, he is virtually unstoppable and nearly unmovable. One of the only people that can actually keep up with his raw power is Amy with her Piko Piko Hammer. However, the Fan of Xen Fing is the one thing that can literally send him flying due to its mysterical wind.
  • A Twinkle in the Sky: How he's finally defeated when Ken breaks out a mystical fan he had thought hidden away. With one sweep, Ken sends him flying right out of the kingdom.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: His default strategy. Then again seeing how strong as he is, it's pretty justified.
  • Big "NO!": Lets this out after he's sent flying by the Fan of Fen Xing for the second time.
  • The Brute: Could be the poster child for this position in the comics, being big on brawn and possessing little in the way of brains.
  • Brutish Bulls: Rather self-evident.
  • Dumb Muscle: While more ambitious than most in this regard, in the end he’s this… he doesn’t have much in the way of strategic thinking beyond hitting things really hard, and generally leaves the planning to the Iron Queen.
  • Expy: In some ways, to Kalibak of the DC Comics universe, being a big bruiser with an affinity for using a Tremor Mace in combat.
  • General Failure: He was this before getting before receiving backing from Robotnik, being unable to conquer either the Free People of the Dragon Kingdom OR the Ninja Clans.
  • The Juggernaut: Plays this role in the comic, being super-strong and almost impossible to really hurt. The best most can manage against him is slowing him down rather than flat out defeating him.
  • Large and in Charge: Towers over his subordinates, along with everyone else.
  • Meaningful Name: His name, Jun Kun, roughly translates into ‘Ruler of Earth’.
  • Mighty Glacier: Neither physically nor mentally the quickest of individuals, but still very, VERY powerful.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Another of his powers. Curiously, he is the only character in the comic with Super-Strength who is also displayed as being invulnerable.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Even with the comic gradually utilizing the streamlined design philosophy of the games for most of its Mobian characters, the Iron King still stands out.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this reaction when he realizes the heroes have the Fan of Fen Xing.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: Takes enormous pride in being a warrior and is VERY boastful about his prowess as one. This had lead him to commit acts of Bond Villain Stupidity, as he believes that letting someone live with the shame of defeat is worse than actually killing them… sufficed to say, this does not work out well for him. At all.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot — like with the Queen, he is actually a Frank Strom creation.
  • Shout-Out: Just as Monkey Khan is a shoutout to Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, so too is the Iron King a shoutout to the Demon Bull King of the same story, being a big evil Ox who has clashed with Monkey Khan in the past.
  • Super-Strength: Confirmed to be one of the top five strongest creatures on Mobius.
  • Uncertain Doom: Before the reboot happened, he was last seen being sent flying to parts unknown by the Fan of Fen Xing.
  • Unholy Matrimony: Subverted; his title is strictly ceremonial, and he is emphatically NOT the Iron Queen’s husband. Though he was weirdly resentful of Snively during the time they spent in New Megaopolis…

Dingo Regime

     General Helmut von Stryker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/VonStryker_4157.jpg

The leader of the Dingo Regime, Helmut Von Stryker was an enemy of Knuckles’ turned quasi-ally. For centuries the dingoes and echidna fought tooth and nail. When both the dingoes and the echidna returned from their pocket dimensions in the present, Von Stryker attempted to resume the ancient feud only to be beaten back by Knuckles while the Dingo’s home city was destroyed. Living at the mercy of his former enemies, Von Stryker did everything in his power to try and ensure that his people would have a life outside the slums of Echidnapolis, encouraging extreme activism to get his message across. Was temporarily usurped by his son, and in the aftermath, he returned to leading his people in the Sandopolis Zone.

  • Anti-Hero: Though he debuts as an antagonist Helmut ultimately spends more time as a heroic character or uneasy ally.
  • Anti-Villain: While generally antagonistic toward Knuckles and echidna-kind, Von Stryker’s main concerns were taking care of his people and ensuring that they were given the same standard of living as the echidna.
  • Badass Normal: Despite being a normal dingo, he managed to punch Mammoth Mogul in the face and live.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Punched Mammoth Mogul in the face while Mogul was ‘Master Mogul’, and actually managed to hurt him.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: He outfits himself with a powerful gauntlet for his first fight with Knuckles. Subsequent fights with the Dark Legion and Mammoth Mogul had him resort to standard Dingo Firearms and his own physical strength.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He didn't approve of his son's methods but he did love him nonetheless and is visibly sadden by his death.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He may have been against the Echidnas but he never went as far as enslaving them as his son did. He just wanted a better life for his people away from them. He's also not above teaming with Knuckles for the greater good.
  • Eyepatch After Timeskip: Stryker was last seen leading the Dingos in an attack against the Xorda superweapon pre-timeskip. Post-timeskip he was MIA for quite a while as his son had deposed him; when he appears again in the desert he's revealed to be wearing an eyepatch likely as a result of his son.
  • Fantastic Racism: As per tradition, feels a good deal of this towards the echidna.
  • Fighting for a Homeland: His ultimate goal. The Dingo’s own homeland was destroyed when the zones shifted, and since then he has been trying to give his people a life that didn’t rely on the Echidna’s dubious ‘charity’. In the aftermath of Enerjak Reborn, he got what he wanted.
  • Four-Star Badass: Seems to be a prerequisite for being the leader of the dingoes.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Had a rather gnarly looking one over his right eye. When his son took over the regime, he lost it entirely.
  • Heartbroken Badass: In spite of everything, he still loved his son. Kage's death shook him despite his acknowledgment that he was a tyrant.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: A major difficulty that Knuckles had in dealing with Stryker during the Dingo immigration into Echidnopolis is that Stryker was often in the right. The Dingoes were stuck as second class citizens and Stryker's belief that the government was attempting to go back on their promise for housing is ultimately proven correct. Even though he was critical of them, Stryker really did try to have the Dingoes cooperate with the Echidnas and mobilized them to defend the city multiple times.
  • Large and in Charge: Before the Art Shift dingoes were typically portrayed as being taller than other animals, and Von Stryker was bigger than the other Dingo.
  • Noble Bigot: While feeling a great deal of loathing for the echidna, he looked out for his people’s best interests and fought against his son’s genocidal actions.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: Dingo society revolved around their military, and is more about discipline and order than ‘honor’ and ‘might makes right’.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Shout-Out: His design and Germanic name are shout-outs to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!: Very pointedly reminded the Echidna leaders during a meeting with them that his title is General Stryker, not Mister Stryker.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Everything he did was done in the name of giving his people a better life.

     General Kage von Stryker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/KageVonStryker_6545.png

The son of Helmut Von Stryker. During Sonic’s time in space, Kage overthrew his father for leadership of the dingoes and accepted military backing from the Eggman Empire. With their combined troops, technology, and weaponry, Kage began a horrific war of retribution and conquest against the echidna. He was eventually ousted from power thanks to the efforts of Knuckles, Sonic, and the Chaotix, but unfortunately, he managed to reduce the Echidna population significantly. During the Enerjak Reborn arc, Kage was disintegrated after bad-mouthing Enerjak.

  • Antagonistic Offspring: He was this towards his father, whom he resented for actually working with the echidna rather than taking the most violent route possible.
  • Asshole Victim: Knuckles as Enerjak is unleashed on the world and he does a lot of damage. He displaces people, depowered the legion, exiled the innocent Echidna, and attacked his friends. However when it came to actual murder the only one he ended up killing was Kage which kept him from becoming too unsympathetic considering Kage's notorious cruelty.
  • Broken Pedestal: He once respected his father, but became frustrated by his willingness to work with the echidna, leading Kage to usurp his position.
  • Cyborg: His entire left side, as well as his right hand and the right half of his face, is cybernetic.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: His father still had some feelings of paternal affection for him after all he'd done. Though considering what Kage did to him it's implied this wasn't mutual.
  • Eviler than Thou: Helmut may have hated echidnas, but he could be reasoned with and was willing to open a dialogue with them. Kage would not and resented that Helmut would even consider working with them.
  • Fantastic Racism: Like his father, he hates the echidna. Unlike his father, he decided to just kill them all.
  • Fascist, but Inefficient: While Helmut was authoritarian most viewed his administration as fairly effective; Kage by contrast was far more of a fascist and his rule was far less effective. Even though Kage was essentially running Angel Island for a time, his regime was mostly concerned about snuffing out the echidnas and working to expand Eggman's grip. The Dingo Regime still traded with the outside world but a number of civilian Dingos noted how much more efficient Helmut's rule was than Kage's.
  • Kick the Dog: Kage was often depicted as cruel and brutal to the point of pointlessness.
    • The Echidna population was reduced significantly because of Kage and his actions. He even willingly joined the Eggman Empire for the resources to carry out his genocide.
    • While he enjoyed torturing Locke he was at least under orders by Eggman to get information from him. What he did to Harry though was largely because Harry's betrayal pissed him off and Kage disfigured him.
  • Killed Off for Real: He's vaporized by Enerjak.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: The dingoes, in general, skirted this line thanks to their fascist styled culture and their leader, but after Kage took over it becomes blatant; menacing uniforms, a flag with a red, black and white color scheme, enacting genocidal cruelty against a longstanding ethnic enemy by putting them into work-camps, etc.
  • Psycho Electro: His cybernetics gave him this powerset.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Before his introduction, there had never been any mention of Helmut Von Stryker having a son or any kind of family.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To his father. He was created when the writers decided that Von Stryker going on a genocidal rampage was out of character.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Yes, Kage, mouth off about how many echidna you’ve killed to the crazy echidna demigod. That’s BOUND to work out for you in the long run.
  • Torture Technician: Liked to handle this job personally.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: He's his dad with cyborg parts.
  • The Usurper: Overthrew his father for command over the dingoes.

Independent Villains

     Mammoth Mogul
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9-6-10_Mogul_6056.jpg

An ancient mammoth wizard with a penchant for verbosity.

  • Affably Evil: As power hungry as he is, he is distinguished by his upper-class etiquette, and has scruples concerning bargains. Is also finding enjoyment as a businessman to pass time before he can finally make a power play. That doesn't mean he won't enjoy making Sonic's life hell in the mean time however.
  • Alternate Company Equivalent: Of DC Comics' Vandal Savage. They're both a centuries-old warlord who was given immortality by Green Rocks. And like Vandal Savage in the DC Animated Universe, Mogul ends up surviving a future disaster and regretting the things he's done.
  • The Atoner: Has become this in Silver's future.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Usually can be seen sporting a really nice suit.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: He ended up defeating Dimitri as Enerjak by showing up and depowering him to advance his own plans. In the "Enerjak Reborn" arc Sonic admits its a shame that they don't have any other magical bad guys on hand to do the dirty work again with the new Enerjak.
  • Big Bad: Has had his turn at being this several times over the course of the series.
  • Bystander Syndrome: His apathy in his Long Game plan left him unable to stop the cataclysm that led to Silver's future being ruined, with the implication that he would've been able to stop both Eggman and Naugus's conquest campaigns, but chose to do nothing until it was too late.
  • Complete Immortality: His main schtick, thanks to the Chaos Emerald embedded in his chest.
  • Cruel Elephant: A villainous mammoth with ambitions of world domination.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: His current status.
  • Eviler than Thou: Pulled this on Dimitri and Ixis Naugus. His speech to a hospitalized Dimitri cinches it.
Mogul: We're two of a kind, you and I! Both creations from our exposure to the Chaos Emerald and both staring deep into the dark abyss.
Dimitri: You didn't mention — how much — we're accountable for!
Mogul: Is that a guilty conscience you're wearing on your sleeve Dimitri? It's a bit late in the game for that, wouldn't you say?
Dimitri: I did what I believed to be right! Can you say the same?
Mogul: The only thing that matters in life is survival! All else is secondary!
  • Evil Is Petty: Sonic's opinion of him. He's powerful but more focused on greed than anything and not above just trying to make Sonic look bad.
  • Evil Sorcerer: The strongest in the series.
  • Expy: Of Vandal Savage. Both being people from prehistoric times who gained immortality after being exposed to a cosmic power, and both seeking world conquest. Mammoth, like Savage, also likes to dress well and appear cultured and sophisticated.
  • A God Am I: When hopped up on enough Chaos energy, he became Master Mogul, who was strong enough to nearly destroy the whole Multiverse. Fortunately, Tails was able to stop him.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Of almost the entire pre-genesis wave continuity, arguably. Thousands of years ago, he founded the Order of Ixis, which eventually led to the creation of Ixis Naugus, whose actions, which may include starting the Great War, in turn led to Dr. Robotnik's rise to power, who's death ultimately led to nearly every villain in the book today, with Naugus responsible for the ones that aren't Mogul. Naugus and Robotnik are still quite active (and are, in fact, the current top two villains of the series), whereas Mogul has semi-retired from active villainy, running a casino and deciding to use his immortality to outlive the heroes and make his move then.
  • Heel–Face Turn: In the far off future, he devotes his time being good in order to training Silver. It's unknown what led him to this path. Either something has happened that made him too weak to be considered a threat (presumably losing his immortality) or, being the Bad Future, there isn't really anything left for him to take over anymore due to the world being destroyed.
  • Informed Ability: Boasts in one instance when lacking a Chaos Emerald that he still has his magic and claims to possess Super-Strength due to his great size (he never took part in fight without using magic in the past), but got knocked out by Sally and a motorcycle immediately afterwards.
  • Long Game: After gaining a new Chaos Emerald and his full power, he decides to take advantage of his immortality and simply wait it out until Sonic either died or was too old to oppose him, then resume his plan to Take Over the World; by this point, he's realized that no matter what he does or how powerful he gets, Sonic would always find a way to win.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: Almost always a very fine suit.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: As a mammoth, he looks a lot more realistic than many of the other Mobians.
  • Old Master: He's Silver's mentor in his future, having apparently seen the error of his ways, and Silver is completely ignorant of his former status as a villain.
  • Pragmatic Villainy:
    • Mogul always presents himself as a man of class and treats his minions semi-decently as long as the benefits outweigh the costs. When he is imprisoned inside the Egg Grapes with his faction, Eggman notes that Mogul is protecting all of them from the life draining machines with his powers. As the Egg Grapes drain his energy more and more, Mogul retracts that protection to save himself, leaving the Arachne to die and forcing Naugus to take the brunt of the effects which left him with brain damage for a while. Though he still saved the Destructix, they abandon him, knowing if they'd been trapped longer he'd have let the Grapes kill them like the rest of Eggman's victims.
    • After breaking out of the New Mobotropolis prison, he decides to stop being an active villain and run a shady but fairly legitimate casino. Not because he decided to stop being evil, but because he realized that no matter how much power he gains or what he does, fate itself seems to bend to ensure Sonic will always win; thus, Mogul decides the only way to truly defeat Sonic is to just wait it out until he dies of old age.
  • Psychic Powers: Part and parcel of his super-powers.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot — though ironically actually a Scott Fulop creation. Fulop would eventually lose in his attempt to claim copyright in court against Archie Comics.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Is, at least, 12,000 years old.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Mogul has been sealed away a number of times in the series, but he always breaks loose.
    • He was briefly sealed in the Master Emerald when it was formed, and escaped when Eggman broke it to feed Chaos.
    • He was also trapped inside his own Chaos Emerald for a while and held there by the Ancient Walkers. However having wounded them earlier they were dying and he finally kills them when his plans for the Arachne to retrieved the Sword of Acorns comes to past.
    • He was then imprisoned in the Egg Grapes, Eggman noted that Mogul's powers prevented him from degrading like so many other victims of the process. A.D.A.M. eventually frees him.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: He is notably verbose in his speech, and routinely mocked for this.
Geoffery St. John: You said that all in one breath. You are a talker.
  • Strong and Skilled: Best shown after stealing Enerjak's power. In addition to being a borderline Reality Warper, Mogul has had over a millennium to learn and master multiple different forms of combat, and was a match for Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles' super forms simultaneously.
  • Taught by Experience: After breaking out of the prison in New Mobotropolis, he avoids fighting Sonic. Realizing that no matter what he did, SOMETHING would stop him, Mogul decided that since he was immortal, he would just wait till Sonic died of old age. And then Take Over the World. This probably wound up backfiring, because whatever cataclysm hit in the future wound up doing it in Sonic's lifetime and he likely wasn't powerful enough to combat the new threat, which likely contributed to his Heel–Face Turn in the future.
  • Wicked Cultured: Despite his oft-unabashed malevolent goals, he conducts himself with great pride and decorum.
  • Villain Respect: In spite of all of his attempts at killing the heroes he does hold some respect for them. When he and Amadeus Prower are in prison, Mogul tells him that Tails is a remarkable boy and that Amadeus should be proud of his son.

Knuckles Incarnation

A demigod being imbued with the power of a living Chaos Emerald. While only two incarnations have been seen in the series, there are at least four incarnations.

The first Enerjak was a scientist whom the Ancient Walkers allowed to ascend into the Chaos Force alongside his lover Aurora. However, Enerjak became corrupted during his transcedence, he was scattered throughout the Chaos Force, but his dark spirit lingered on...

The second Enerjak, a researcher like the first, was corrupted by one of his experiments and possessed by the Enerjak's spirit. Rising to power during the Forgotten War between the Order of Ixis and the Albion Knights of Aurora, he was such a threat that the two warring factions agreed to a temporarily alliance and defeated him through unknown means.

The third Enerjak and the first seen in the comics was Dimitri, who attempted to drain power from the Chaos Emeralds that were keeping Angel Island afloat to try to bring it back down to earth. His device failed, granting him the power that rivaled a god, which he intended to use until he was sealed away for several centuries. Eventually he returned to finish what he'd started by menacing Angel Island, only to be thwarted several times by the Guardian; Knuckles, and the Chaotix. He was eventually stripped of his power by Mogul using the Sword of Acorns, ending the third Enerjak's reign for good.

The fourth and final Enerjak was the very Guardian Knuckles himself. Manipulated into becoming Enerjak by the evil Dr. Finitevus, Enerjak would proceed to eliminate nearly all threats to Angel Island in a single day; he banished the Dingoes to Sandopolis, vaporised their leader General Kage Von Stryker along with their city, stripped both the Fire & Frost fractions of the Dark Legion of all their cybernetic implants (which he deemed "impure"), and destroyed Dr. Eggman's entire Egg Fleet with little effort. However, his time as Enerjak came to an end when Sonic went into his Super Form and, while he was distracted fighting him, Knuckles' father Locke sacrificed his life to break the spell he was under, bringing an end to the fourth incarnation of Enerjak.

For tropes pertaining to the Dark Mobius incarnations, go here.

Tropes Applying to all incarnations:

  • The Dreaded: Is extremely feared by the heroes regardless of the incarnation.
  • Enemy Mine: Whenever he shows up, any opposing sides are more than likely to join forces to stop reguardless of any bad blood between them:
    • The Second incarnation was so powerful that the Order of Ixis and the Albion Knights of Aurora (both sides were at war with each other at the time) were forced to work together just to stop him.
    • Knuckles' incarnation gets this twice over:
      • The very possibility of him returning was enough to get both Sonic and Dr. Eggman to form a truce to stop him.
      • The Flame & Frost fractions of the Dark Legion quickly ended their civil war to unite against him.
  • Eviler than Thou: Has been on the giving and receving end of this trope:
    • Receving: Dimitri's incarnation was dealt a swift defeat at the hands of Mammoth Mogul, who used the Sword of Acorns to drain his powers.
    • Giving: Knuckles' incarnation vaporised General Kage Von Stryker with a thought. Then later after Eggman managed to capture and started siphoning his energy using the Egg Grapes, he proceeded to escape and decimate Eggman's forces and city, forcing the good doctor to take cover.
  • Imagination-Based Superpower: Each incarnation of Enerjak is a nigh-omnipotent Reality Warper, their powers and feats limited only by their imagination.
  • A God Am I: Anyone who dons the power and name of Enerjak risks inflating their own egos and, unfortunately, have that power to back it up. Only Jani-Ca, "Dark Mobius" Knuckles' daughter, manages to defy this since she uses it to restore as much damage her father inflicted on the planet as she is able to.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Any time a version of Enerjak shows up, it's a sign things will take a turn for the worse.
  • Legacy Character: So far, Dimitri, Knuckles, his counterpart from the "Dark Mobius" universe, and said counterpart's daughter have worn the mantle of Enerjak. Finitevus has implied that there have been more, touching back on the fact that when in flashbacks Dimitri took the name Enerjak he said he was taking the name of an "ancient evil."
    • The encyclopedia reveals Dimitri was the third Enerjak. The first was an echidna researcher who was given the chance to Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence but became corrupted and his consciousness was scattered across the Chaos Force. This original Enerjak suppresses the consciousness of others, including Dimitri, Knuckles, and an unnamed Enerjak who fought in the Forgotten Wars.
  • Physical God: Even among super form characters these guys are strong.
  • Reality Warper: To a slight degree.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.

Dimitri Incarnation:

  • Hero Killer: Knuckles really only survived as long as he did against him due to Idiot Ball moments on Dimitri's part, and when he got tired he simply vaporised him.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Guy has a very high opinion of himself.
  • Smug Snake: Dimitri shows that he is far more powerful than Knuckles, and only loses because he flat doesn't use his powers when fighting him.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: A failing of this particular incarnation, wielding demigod powers at his minimum, Dimitri constantly underestimates his opponents, becomes extremely frustrated with those on his level that he can't simply steamroll over, (causing him to make careless mistakes), and doesn't know how to strategize. Not helping is the fact that prior to gaining his power, Dimitri was a scientist echidna, not a warrior, so he has no experience in actual fighting. Knuckles, who is a trained fighter, lands several good hits on him, and even points out to him; "All that power and I'm still surprised at what a glass jaw you have!" and; "You may be stronger, but do you even know how to fight?"

Knuckles Incarnation:

  • The Juggernaut: This incarnation went toe-to-toe with Super Sonic.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: This incarnation gets in on this quite a bit:
    • Decimating Eggman's city and forces, which contributed to the good doctor's ongoing Villainous Breakdown. Of course, considering Eggman had recently nuked Knothole off the face of Mobius and gleefully tried to use most of the echidna population to power his forces via the life-sucking Egg Grape Champers, on top of numerous other atrocities, you won't feel bad for him.
Enerjak: There. I was planning on punishing Dr. Eggman anyway.
    • Killing Kage Von Stryker by slowly tearing him apart molecule by molecule. Considering Kage was a racist bastard who overthrew his more reasonable father as the leader of the Dingo Regime, happily worked for Eggman in order to wipe out the Echidna population, and went so far as to put numerous Echidnas in what were blatantly Nazi-style concentration camps, he gets absolutely no sympathy from the audience.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Despite his more brutal methods, Knuckles' incarnation genuinely think he's helping those he views as comrades. He removes the cybernetics from the Dark Legion because he wants them to be "free" and wants to wipe out technology across Mobius because he views it as a tool used by evil, most obviously by Dr. Eggman. He banishes the dingoes from Angel Island to the desert in order to stop the fighting between them and the echidnas, and teleporting most of the echidnas back to Albion is out of a belief of protecting them. Unfortunately, all of this is being filtered through his newfound god complex and his refusal to second-guess his own decisions or tolerate his friends telling him he's wrong.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The Knuckles incarnation suffers this when he fights Super Sonic; Super Sonic only managed to last as long as he did thanks to a combination of his Nigh-Invulnerability, the fact that Enerjak had just been drained of much of his Chaos energy by Eggman's Egg Grape Chambers, and Knuckles' limited imagination preventing him from using Enerjak's power to its fullest extent.

     Uma Arachnis/Arachne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Arachnis_9100.png

A mysterious spider ninja and servant to Ixis Naugus with a drive to claim the mystical Sword of Acorns. She and her children, a ninja team of Spiders dubbed 'The Arachne', took it upon themselves to steal the sword from any who wished to wield it, good or evil. Both Arachnis and her children died guarding the sword.

  • The Ace: She was the top ninja of her clan.
  • All Webbed Up: A natural ability of hers as a spider.
  • Enigmatic Minion: For years her origin, why she was in the Zone of Silence, and her reasons for serving Naugus (and later Kodos) were unexplained. Eventually it was revealed that she was a member of the Gossamer Clan, and that her allegiance Naugus and Kodos was all part of a VERY convoluted scheme to prevent the Source of All from falling into evil.
  • Genetic Memory: A natural ability, this is how she continued her plans after death and how her children gained their skills and drive to capture the Sword of Acorns.
  • Killed Off for Real:
    • Uma Arachnis badly wounded by Kodos after he went nuts, later dying from the poison killing Kodos.
    • The Arachne were all victims of the Egg Grapes.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: She has SIX arms, courtesy of being a spider.
  • Multi-Melee Master: Often fought with several weapons at once. Interestingly, her children all specialized in the use of a single weapon.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • The Quiet One: Only spoke a few times over the course of the entire comic.
  • Screw Destiny: By peering into her clan’s mystical ‘Web of Destiny’, she foresaw that the Source of All would eventually fall into the hands of evil. Everything she did in the comic was to stop this.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Everything she did was done to prevent a catastrophe. Towards this end she allied with power hungry would-be world conquerors and set-up her own children to continue her goals after her death.

     Warlord Kodos
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_07_22_kodos03_webp_webp_image_567_641_pixels.png

The Kingdom of Acorn's Warlord before Julian, he's a key figure to the comic's backstory. Plotting to overthrow King Acorn long before Robotnik came along, Kodos conspired with Ixis Naugus towards this end and even helped him drive the kindly Nate Morgan out of the Kingdom. Later, with the help of Naugus, he would orchestrate the Great War, and was eventually betrayed and banished to the Zone of Silence by Julian, where he would become a lackey of Naugus. After escaping the Zone of Silence, Kodos went solo, clashing several times with Sonic and the Freedom Fighters and as well trying to capture the Sword of Acorns. Eventually driven mad by the irradiated environment of Robotropolis and died after being blasted by the very Sword he sought and falling into a crevice.

  • Ambition Is Evil: Had plans to overthrow the King before Robotnik betrayed him.
  • Ax-Crazy: Became this eventually. By the time of his final appearance he had been driven completely mad, with an obsessive focus on the Sword of Acorns.
  • The Berserker: Tended to resort to most problems with his axe, and relished every minute of it. After being poisoned, he took this up a notch.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He had hoped to take over the Kingdom of Acorn during the Great War but was instead thrown into the Zone of Silence by Robotnik. After returning to Mobius, he attempted to use the Sword of Acorns to gain some power but ultimately achieved nothing before going mad from radiation poisoning and falling down a crevasse to his death.
  • Blood Knight: Pretty much his whole motivation for starting the Great War, as he only knows how to fight.
  • The Brute: Served this role when working for Naugus, though he was a bit smarter and much more ambitious than most examples of this trope.
  • Cats Are Mean: The meanest in this comic; he started the Great War out of raw hatred and ambition.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Much like his partners Naugus and Robotnik, Kodos ultimately doesn't cotton to playing second fiddle, plotting to betray his king and then attempting to murder Naugus when they succeeded at their plan to drive Nate Morgan away.
  • Disney Villain Death: How he met his end, though he would have died eventually even if he hadn't taken a plunge.
  • Fantastic Racism: Despises Overlanders and sympathizers of them, enough so that he not only framed Nate Morgan and successfully drove him into self-exile, but also ended up orchestrating the Great War. Interestingly, he was willing to put this aside and actually tried to coax Julian into assisting him with his own plans for taking over the Kingdom, recognizing him as a kindred spirit. He and Uma later partnered with Snively when they believed the Overlander initiated a breakout which freed them and other criminals.
  • General Failure: While a brave and fierce warrior, Kodos ultimately became this during the Great War, proving unable to beat back the Overlanders. It's also the reason he was demoted in favor of Julian when the latter defected over to the Mobians.
  • General Ripper: His lust for battle is what drove him to spark the Great War, eager to cause as much bloodshed as he wanted.
  • Killed Off for Real: After being poisoned by Robotropolis' toxins he became a feral, maddened beast, going on a rampage and attempting to steal the Sword of Acorns. After a brief battle with the Freedom Fighters he fell into a crevice, and Word of God states that if the fall didn't kill him he would have eventually succumbed to the toxins anyway.
  • Mysterious Past: The Encyclopedia notes that not much is known of Kodos Lion's history before coming to the Kingdom of Acorn. He was born in the Efrikan continent and the peaceful ways of his home made him leave to seek combat, but beyond that nothing else is known.
  • Panthera Awesome: Comes with being a lion.
  • Predecessor Villain: To Robotnik. Like Robotnik, he was the Warlord of the Kingdom of Acorn and a trusted servant of the King, and secretly plotted to usurp his liege and dominate Mobius afterwards. Even better, he tutored Robotnik in the art of war and tried to induct him into his conspiracy to conquer the Kingdom, only to be betrayed by him.
  • Put on a Bus: Dead, but now can never be referenced after the reboot.
  • Rock Beats Laser: Evidently a practitioner of this; flashbacks show that even during the Great War he only ever fought with his battleaxe, while the Overlanders were into using guns and futuristic tech to fight the Mobians. Somehow, despite this, he managed to survive the war long enough for Robotnik to defect over to the Kingdom.
  • The Starscream: He had plans to overthrow King Max shortly after the Great War, except Robotnik backstabbed Kodos first and imprisoned him in the Zone of Silence.
  • Taken for Granite: When he returns from the Zone of Silence with Naugus, Naugus turns him into crystal to increase Kodos's durability in battle. When Naugus's wand is destroyed, Kodos loses the magic animating his crystaline body and became a "temporary" statue.
  • Too Dumb to Live: He saw a kindred spirit in Robotnik and decided to let him in on his plan to take over the Kingdom of Acorn, showing the doctor to his secret cache of weapons and his portal to the Zone of Silence. Robotnik then proceeded to knock the lion out when his back was turned and threw him into the Zone of Silence in order to take Kodos' position as warlord and his plans of domination.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Kodos started the Great War out of bigotry and bloodlust, as well as teaching Robotnik about the art of warfare and about the Zone of Silence. All of these actions would lead to Robotnik being put in a position where he could achieve his plans of world domination.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Upon finding a teenage Mobian and Overlander conspiring to end the war via false scouting reports, Kodos has them brought before him and then proceeds to murder them both with his bare hands. He sends their bodies to their respective sides, hoping to finally turn the longstanding aggression into a war.

     Dr. Finitevus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Dr__Finitevus_1_7631.png

Originally a normal echidna scientist, he was corrupted by excessive Chaos Energy when attempting to de-power Chaos Knuckles. This renegade Echidna has developed a twisted belief that the world is corrupt that needs to be cleansed, and will do anything he can to accomplish his goals.

  • Aborted Arc: Last seen of him was in a Sonic Universe arc where he tried to steal the Master Emerald. He was defeated and thrown off Angel Island but was still scheming something. He's mentioned by the Destructix that they made a deal with him in exchange for needing a Warp Ring to bust out Scrouge. But then the Cosmic Retcon happened and any storylines with him went out the window.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Knuckles, replacing Dimitri.
  • Big Bad: For the "Enerjak Reborn" arc.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Rather than fighting hand-to-hand, he prefers using his warp rings to make enemies knock themselves out. He's also threatened to close a warp ring while someone is only partially through it.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Was originally a normal Echidna scientist from Albion and attempted to use his Chaos Siphon Suit to drain Chaos Knuckles of his Chaos energy, but said energy (combined with the interference from Charmy and Saffron) caused Finitevus to absorb some of the energy himself. This granted him Chaos powers, but also made him insane, effectively turning him into Knuckles' personal enemy and rival. Any hope of him turning out alright was doomed by the Albion High Council being paranoid enough about his new powers and worsening mental state that they voted to euthanize him, but he escaped with his Warp Rings before they could do so.
  • Enemy Mine: Partnered with Locke to prevent A.D.A.M. from seizing the Master Emerald on the grounds that he "needed it for his own reasons". He later used this temporary alliance (plus hired humanitarian aid from the Destructix) to convince Locke to leave Angel Island in his care and search for his ancestors.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: At the end of the Enerjak Reborn arc, he happily informs Julie-Su, Archimedes, and Locke that the only way to free Knuckles from his control is if one of them performs a Heroic Sacrifice to break the hex. He's caught by surprise when all three of them volunteer to do so without hesitation, and calls them "grave-eager fools".
  • Evil Counterpart: To Knuckles, in a way. He actually looks a bit like a negative photo of Knux, fights using similar powers, and has an evil version of the emerald chant from Sonic Adventure.
"The servants are the seven Chaos... Chaos is power, controlled by my will... The controller exists to enslave the chaos!"
  • Fantastic Racism: Only towards Thrash during their brief clash in the Knuckles arc of Sonic Universe.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He is polite and casually conversational with Knuckles and Locke throughout his appearances, but ultimately is a sadistic and twisted individual who wants to wipe out the world and modern civilization. He doesn't even try to hide his sadistic joy when he tells Locke and Julie-Su that someone has to die to break the hex on the Master Emerald during Enerjak Reborn or when he's about to bisect Knuckles with a Warp Ring.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Ordinarily a brilliant mind from the Echidna city of Albion, an incident involving Chaos Knuckles, Saffron and Charmy Bee, and an invention of his own creation led to his transformation into one of the worst villains Mobius had ever seen. Dangerous and manipulative, he nearly brought about The End of the World as We Know It by using Knuckles, and was directly responsible for Albion's destruction and the deaths of hundreds of Echidnas.
  • Hijacking Cthulhu: The entire point of his Enerjak Reborn project was to make a new incarnation of Enerjak that he could control to enact his goals.
  • Karma Houdini: While none of his plans have ever worked the way he intended, he's still responsible for Enerjak rampaging across Mobius and has yet to suffer any beat downs or Humiliation Conga defeats the way other villains have, because he always gets away thanks to his warp rings.
    • Save for the last encounter with Knuckles which ended with him thrown off Angel Island. He survives (albeit it with a broken arm) but at least he had more of a defeat there.
  • Mad Scientist: He wants to wipe out modern civilization and all life as we know it and performs many cruel experiments to do so.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He once manipulated Scourge, the Destructix, Dimitri, Knuckles and his father, and two factions of the Dark Legion into helping him create a new Enerjak.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: He claims that the world is corrupt as per what factions such as the Echidnas and Eggman Empire have done (or failed to do), and that it needs to be "cleansed" - in other words, ravaged to the ground. That said, his actions make sure nobody sees his ideals as anything besides megalomaniacal, and his sadistic relishing of others' suffering makes him a Knight Templar at best. At the end of the day, he's really just trying to create a world in his own image.
  • Obviously Evil: By far the most evil looking character in the comic and often lampshaded by Scourge of all people who refers to him as "Dr. Creepy Von Evil".
  • Pragmatic Villainy:
    • In his debut, Finitevus has to deal with an Echidna couple whose child had been blinded and who wanted Knuckles to cure him with his chosen one powers. Finitevus had told them that the Legion could restore the child's sight easily through robotic implants and the couples' insistence in relying on superstition instead of hard science causes Finitevus to get into a shouting fit.
    • Though Finitevus is one of the most morally black characters he also teams up with the heroes a number of times when his goals align with theirs. He allied with the Dark Legion and the Brotherhood against Eggman and the Dingo Regime, and later he and Locke worked together to stop A.D.A.M. from taking the Master Emerald.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot — although he is actually a Karl Bollers creation. That said, being an echidna at all would have likely gotten him the boot by Sega due to directly contradicting Knuckles' whole "last of the Echidnas" deal.
  • Science Wizard: Dr. Finitevus is a scientist with robotics and mechanical expertise rivaling that of Dr. Eggman. He is also imbued with magical abilities that allow him to tap into Chaos energy.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: He does this at the end of the Enerjak Reborn through a Warp Ring after he falls off of Angel Island due to Knuckles' assault.
  • Villain Has a Point: While his methods are questionable, he isn't wrong about Albion and their atrocities or about the many failures of and the problems that Edmund and Dimitri's descendants have caused via the Brotherhood of Guardians and Dark Legion.
  • Where I Was Born and Razed: Finitevus was once a respected scientist of Albion, but absorbing an overload Chaos energy from Knuckles while trying to drain him of said power combined with Charmy and Saffron's interference warped him both physically and mentally. The Albion High Council instead of trying to help him decided it was safer to euthanize him, but Finitevus escaped and led the Eggman Empire right to Albion, whose defenses he personally disabled, and the result was the genocide and/or capture of nearly all of Albion's population and the destruction of the city.
  • You Killed My Father: Not directly, but Knuckles holds him responsible for the death of his father, since Locke killed himself in order to free Knuckles from Finitevus' control.

     Sand-Blaster Freedom Fighters
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_11_01_sand_blasters.png

A group of freedom fighters who originally fought against Robotnik's tyranny in Sand Blast City. However, after the Robians were de-roboticized, they revealed that the fighting had left them self-centered, cruel, and prejudiced; they treated the former robians so badly that they willingly returned to Eggman and signed on as members of his Dark Egg Legion to defend themselves.

  • Fantastic Racism: Their treatment of the former Robians is definitely an example of this; "Once a Robian, always a Robian," was their motto.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Let's just say they're not the most morally upright Freedom Fighter group.
  • It's All About Me: In their first appearance, they don't seem to care very much that keeping Sonic trapped in Sand Blast City would mean dooming all the other Freedom Fighter groups so long as he could defend them from the Robians. This self-centered and bull-headed nature would go on to color every appearance they made since.
  • Jerkass: Every single one of 'em
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Deconstructed when they first meet Sonic, as they like him so much they try to keep him captive.
  • My Greatest Failure: This is the subject of a story where Sonic reflects on how he could probably have dealt with them in a better way the first time. A talk about it helps him deal, and he soon has even bigger problems on his mind. This is before the Sand-Blasters really Jump Off The Slippery Slope.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Jack finds out that Mighty had tricked him with a phony identity and was league with the Chaotix, he orders his troops to fire on Mighty as, as the time, he was being bound by shackles. Mighty's sister, Matilda, got in the way and took a blast for him. As you can imagine, Mighty didn't take kindly to that since he had just reunited with her. Cue Unstoppable Rage, Mighty breaking loose, and single-handily going to town on their vehicles, forcing them to run for their lives. Considering this was their last appearance before the retcon, it was a fitting send off.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Their prejudice against and mistreatment of the ex-Robians in Sand Blast City is what drove them to join the Dark Egg Legion in the first place.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Renegade Splinter Faction: Not that the separate Freedom Fighter groups were a unified front in the first place, but this one always stood out.
  • Shout-Out: Their appearances were based on several Looney Tunes characters. Jack Rabbit was Bugs Bunny, Tex was Wile E. Coyote, and Rev was the Road Runner.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Jack orders one of his tank commanders to fire on Ray and Matilda.

     Rosy the Rascal
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_11_01_rosy_jpg_webp_webp_image_507_633_pixels_scaled_84.png

The Moebius counterpart to Amy. She wished on a magic ring to be older for Scourge, and the ring made her crazy in exchange for granting her wish.

  • Axe-Crazy: How much? If it's alive, it can be smashed.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Just like Amy, she wields a hammer. Unlike Amy, her hammer has spikes on the end. She even winds up destroying Amy's hammer when she tries to fight her.
  • Cute and Psycho: Looks like a Rose-Haired Sweetie, but she wants everyone to be smashed.
  • The Dreaded: Even Scourge doesn't like tangling with her. It took him having to go super just to get her out of his way.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: Well that and a magic wish that corrupted her mind.
  • Mythology Gag: Wears Amy's initial design from the Sonic CD games. Largely as both a way to distinguish her from Amy and to showcase that while her body has grown, her mind certainly didn't. Also her name comes from a mistranslated subtitle in for Amy in Sonic the Fighters.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot.
  • Red/Green Contrast: Rosy wears a green dress to further distinguish her from Amy who wears red.
  • Slasher Smile: Constantly, there barely a moment where it isn't on her face.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Showcasing how her mind has snapped, her Piko-Piko Mallet has its ends shaped into large, conical spikes, making it far more lethal.
  • Tragic Villain: Rosy just wanted Scourge to notice her and return her feelings. In the process, she wound up turning herself into such a psychotic little monster that even he would never love her back.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: Rosy's hammer has spikes, making it far more lethal than Amy's blunt hammer. This reflects how twisted and murderous Rosy is, as opposed to her more benevolent counterpart.
  • Yandere: Rosy loves Scourge so much she wants to bust his head in.

Original Design

Redesign

Nack's younger twin sister and a capable thief and bounty hunter in her own right. She had a rivalry with Rouge and was a onetime partner in crime of Fiona Fox’s. Gone after the Penders lawsuit.

  • Ambiguous Situation: The Encyclopedia remarks on her disappearance with rumors ranging from retirement to Nack having killed her.
  • Hald Dressed Cartoon Animal: wears a brown top and no pants,
  • Punch-Clock Villain: In contrast to Nack whose enmity with the Freedom Fighters grows more personal and ugly, Nic is just about a paycheck and is fine working with the good-guys so long as she's compensated. Even her debut was as a fairly neutral and non-hostile party who even saved Ray (though she expected to be paid for the deed).
  • Punny Name: Nic and Nack, or knickknack.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot. Being the sister of Nack (a Sega character) might still have gotten her booted from the reboot continuity.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Nic just sort of disappears from the story. Fiona references her in a flashback and the Encyclopedia offers some theories, but in story Nic never appeared again. Flynn considered killing her off but fan reaction made him reconsider, but then the reboot hit and Nic was dropped from the story.
  • You Don't Look Like You: One proposed redesign would have changed her look completely, with her fur going from purple to pink.

     Thrash the Devil
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_11_01_thrash_the_devil.png

A Tasmanian devil who has a beef with the echidnas, due to the fact that they experimented upon the Tasmanian Devils in ancient times and ultimately caused them to devolve into feral, unintelligent beasts now known as "Devil Dogs". As such, he has butted heads with Knuckles a few times.

  • Anti-Villain: He's against Eggman like many of the cast and willing to fight for the greater good. But his main focus is on the echidnas for what they did to his people. And he'll do anything to make sure they pay for their crimes.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Knuckles via an association to echidna.
  • Cruel Mercy: Chooses to "spare" Knuckles rather than banishing him into another Zone with the rest of the echidna population. He views this as Laser-Guided Karma of the "eye for an eye" kind; now they're both the Last of His Kind.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Wasn't intended, but the lawsuit with Penders forced the writers to allow him to succeed in his plan to trap the echidnas (and Saffron) in parts unknown via a warp ring. Achieving his revenge and leaving Knuckles the last of his kind.
  • Enemy Mine: With Knuckles during the Knuckles The Return arc in Sonic Universe as the Freedom Fighters there are trying to stop Finitevus.
  • Evil Counterpart: He reflects Knuckles as a bruiser, and his gloves and boots have the same studs that one can find on Knuckles' own shoes.
  • Hypocrite: While his vendetta against the echidnas is somewhat justified, inflicting the same fate on Knuckles (and by extension, Charmy) is just being a petty asshole.
  • Karma Houdini: Thanks to the reboot happening, he manages to get away with banishing the echidnas, Julie-Su and Saffron with no comeuppance whatsoever. Although being erased from existence himself, he won't be able to fully enjoy his victory.
  • Last of His Kind: One of the few non-feral Tasmanian Mobians left, if not the only one left.
  • Super-Scream: Can uses a sonic howl as his main power.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Wants to exact revenge on the present day echidnas, even though it was their ancestors that defiled his race.
  • Put on a Bus: Upon pulling this trope on most of the remaining echidnas, he was last seen jumping into his warp ring during his fight with Knuckles, which deactivates and prevents Knuckles from following. He won't be returning due to the reboot erasing him from existence.
  • Token Evil Teammate: To the Downunda Freedom Fighters.
  • Volatile Tasmanian Devil: A Mobian Tasmanian Devil who sets out on a quest to find and punish the Echidnas who mutated and destroyed his people.

     Colin Kintobor
The Chief Justice in the Overlander society and one of its premier Generals, Colin was a major player during the Great War. He's the brother of Robotnik and the father of Snively. After the war was lost, Colin took his people into space, seeking a new planet to inhabit. With their search fruitless they returned to Mobius only to be welcomed by Dr. Eggman, his brother from another dimension.
  • Abusive Parent: Was this to his son Snively, being the one to give him his unflattering nickname. Likely the reason Snively joined Robotnik.
  • Anti-Villain: An Overlander-supremacist, but dedicated to the survival and protection of his people.
  • Cain and Abel: Zig-Zagged with Robotnik. It was Colin who first acted against his brother, sentencing him to prison for experimenting on their people and ordering his death when he escaped. Robotnik never really got the chance to pay his brother back as he'd fled the planet by the time the Doctor attained power. With Eggman though it's flipped around. Eggman killed the Colin of his dimension and ultimately lures in and kills Prime-Colin as well.
  • Cartoonish Companions: Inverted. Colin has a realistic body design in contrast to the more cartoony proportions of his brother and son.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In his first appearance in Issue 72, Colin looks like a more muscular version of his brother's original form.
  • Fantastic Racism: Years away from Mobius haven't changed his prejudices against Mobians one bit. When Agnes and Hope state they don't trust Eggman and are against staying with him in Robotropolis, Colin openly states he finds it a better alternative than living with the Mobians.
Colin: Well, it's a step up from being with monkeys and hedgehogs, isn't it?
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Prior to the Great War, he was the one who judged Robotnik for using his fellow Overlanders as test subjects for weaponry, sentencing him to prison for doing so and ordering his death when he escaped. Despite this, while not privy to the many atrocities Robotnik committed, when he returned to Mobius, Colin was still quick to trust Eggman over Sonic and the Mobians and judge his brother as having reformed. It's not until Eggman himself personally confirms that Hope's suspicions over him being behind the Robians are true, and the reveal he's been subjecting Colin and the rest of the Overlanders to radiation poisoning with the intent to roboticize them all, that Colin realizes that his brother is just as evil as ever.
  • Killed Off for Real: Colin punches Eggman's body and is roboticized by the Doctor's touch-based robotic form. As it was unwilling, Colin becomes a lifeless statue, frozen in place. The characters In-Universe wonder if they can reverse the Overlander roboticisation and restore them to life but before they can do anything, Station Square nukes the city, destroying Colin's body and preventing any possibility of restoring him.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Assuming that Snively wasn't lying to Hope, Colin was her birth father but chose to hide it from her, pretending that her real father had died and that he married her mother only after she was born. His reason for doing this was never revealed though Snively theorized that he didn't want her to know that he was her brother, either because he believed Snively to be dead and didn't want her to angst over him or because he believed Snively to be alive and didn't want her associating with him.
  • Predecessor Villain: Colin's stint as an antagonist was more towards the Parents of the Freedom Fighters, having shot out Amadeus's eye and coordinated the war-effort against the Mobians. When he returns in the present he's far less of an antagonist to Sonic and co.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After losing the Great War, rather than trying to live peacefully with the Mobians, Colin led a large number of his people into space in a failed attempt to find a new world to settle.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Sonic saved him and the rest of the Overlanders from a Badnik attack, and Colin immediately believes he's evil based on Eggman's words. Monkey Khan's ill-timed attempt at revenge only seals the deal.
  • Unwilling Roboticisation: With a twist. Robotnik's roboticisation procedure turns Mobians into mindless drones but to Overlanders they become non-sentient statues unless they undergo the process willingly.
