Leadership

     Dr. Robotnik
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/th_2.jpeg

The original Big Bad of the series, he's more or less the same character from SatAM with a few changes. Born Julian Kintobor of the House Ivo, he was a weapon developer for the Overlanders but was arrested for his inhuman experiments. He escaped imprisonment and defected over to the Mobians' side, eventually rising to the position of Warlord under King Acorn. Julian was vital in winning the war, but during peacetime, he initiated a coup. King Acorn was banished into the Zone of Silence and Julian, now known as "Robotnik", took over as dictator, with his various "sub-bosses" establishing his authority over faraway lands. Only Sonic and the Freedom Fighters (and their sister organisations) stood in his way.

Robotnik was finally taken out in the Endgame Arc, which was followed by fifty or so issues of the Freedom Fighters coming to terms with his absence and trying to oust his underlings. An alternate universe counterpart, Robo-Robotnik, later travel to Robotnik's world to fill the void. The original Dr. Robotnik was designated as Robotnik Prime whilst Robo-Robotnik picked up the nickname Dr. Eggman.

The original Robotnik briefly came back from being Deader than Dead when his molecules were put back together by Eggman. Robotnik pretended to seek amnesty with the Freedom Fighters... but they weren't fooled; they destroyed the device used to restore Robotnik, and he disintegrated again during a squabble with Eggman.

  • 0% Approval Rating: By the time the comic started, Robotnik had burnt all of his bridges. He became the de facto enemy of Mobian kind and the Overlanders saw him as a war criminal and traitor (even before he joined the Mobians in the great war). Robotnik tended to surround himself with non-sentient allies and warriors, recognizing he could only count on them as support. All of Robotnik's allies capable of thought, ala Crocbot or Snively, hated and plotted against him.
  • Adaptational Comic Relief: Not so much of the already comical games Robotnik, but he was still much more clownish than the SatAM rendition he was primarily based on. He did take on a similar more sinister role as the stories evolved, but still reveled in a silly hammy side more often than his animated counterpart.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Just like his SatAM counterpart, this version of the egg shaped genius completely lacks any positive or redeeming qualities that the doctor has in the games. And unlike his later Robo counterpart in the same continuity that took his place as Big Bad, he also completely lacks the one redeeming quality (his genuine care for Mecha) that said counterpart had. All in all, he can easily be considered to be the most vile and evil version of Dr. Eggman yet.
  • Bad Boss: Robotnik was not a pleasant dictator to work under. Even beyond his mistreatment of Snively he would shred his own Badniks for the pettiest of reasons, destroying one Swatbot because it came up with a better idea than his own.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He's a very Laughably Evil villain prone to being made a Butt-Monkey of by Sonic and his friends, but he still controls a vast worldwide robotic empire and is a true mechanical genius in spite of his childishness. As such, there are multiple occasions where he actually poses a serious threat, sometimes to the point of a Near-Villain Victory.
  • Big Bad: For the first 50 issues, Robotnik was the main cause of all of the antagonism and suffering in the series. Other gambits of greater scale, like those of Naugus and Mogul, were only revealed after his demise. Leading up to and following issue #75, Robo-Robotnik, an alternate dimensional Dr. Robotnik who would later be known as Dr. Eggman, would be a permanent replacement to the original.
  • Cain and Abel: While the Abel part of this is somewhat questionable, Colin was none the less dedicated to serving and protecting his people, whereas Julian was a traitor who attempted to use his fellow Overlanders as test subjects for weaponry and later went on to become a genocidal tyrant. The set-up is also inverted with regards to age; Colin was Julian's older brother rather than a more moral younger sibling.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: In the very first issue, there is a sign on Robotnik's desk which reads "Dr. Robotnik: Supreme Dictator, Industrial Polluter, Megalomaniac, Corrupt Politician, Underhanded Reprobate, Rain Forest Ravager, Puppy Kicker, Oil Spill Coordinator, Holiday Hater, Insurance Salesman. Rights violated while U wait!"
  • Character Catchphrase: Much like the cartoons, he was prone to shouting "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!!!" whenever Sonic foiled his plans or otherwise defeated him.
  • Composite Character: Robotnik combined his depiction in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog with Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM). Visually he was the latter but for much of the initial comic he acted like the former: prone to zany schemes and Butt-Monkey antics. His character swung much more towards his SatAM counterpart as the comic went on and the Cerebus Syndrome started kicking in, though only fully matching it in Endgame.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: As childish and clownish as he is, he is far from a harmless villain, possessing a legitimate genius IQ and immense physical strength and durability. Simply put, there's a reason he lasted as long as he did in the Big Bad position.
  • Cyborg: Like his SatAM counterpart, his left arm is roboticized. It's also implied some of his internal organs are robotic as well, as he often drank oil and was stated to have a metallic heart.
  • Dead Alternate Counterpart: He's this to Dr. Eggman, at least until the Super Genesis Wave rewrites everything.
  • Deader than Dead: Dr. Eggman's Super Genesis Wave collapsed The Multiverse and remade it. In the new timeline, it was Eggman and only Eggman who sought help with and betrayed the Mobians. Robotnik Prime was completely erased from the timeline altogether.
  • Doomsday Device: Among the long list of destructive weapons over his career, the Death Egg and Ultimate Annihilator were his most infamous. Was erased from existence by the latter thanks to Snively.
  • Electronic Eyes: He had normal eyes when he was still Julian Kintobor, but his red irises with black scleras are implied to have become this when he upgraded his body with cybernetics. However, this is definitely a Depending on the Writer issue as certain depictions of Dr. Robotnik still have the standard eyes and his ancestor, the fully human Brutus Kintobor, had these eyes as well.
  • Emperor Scientist: He was the ruler of Mobius for 10 years. Even after being overthrown, most of Mobius was still under his control.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Zig-Zagged. For all of his atrocities, changing the fabric of reality isn't something he would try to do given the risks, unlike his successor Eggman; at least, not unless is benefits only him. Erasing his enemies from reality, on the other hand, is a different story.
  • Evil Is Petty: He was revealed to have an emergency program installed that, should he ever come to a point that he knew Sonic and the Freedom Fighters would definitely overthrow him, it would activate all his resources to destroy the entire planet in essentially a genocidal Rage Quit.
  • Fantastic Racism: He harbored a deep hatred of Mobians and wanted to wipe them all out, or at least those he hadn't yet roboticized, with the Ultimate Annihilator.
  • Fat Bastard: Dr. Robotnik, utilizing the SatAM design, was the most notable with the fat jokes toned down as he got more dangerous and artists emphasizing his grotesqueness in a number of scenes.
  • Fun-Hating Villain: In the early days of the comic, Robotnik's main shtick was an obsession with outlawing fun.
  • Hoax Hogan: One of Robo-Robotnik's Body Backup Drives in issue 75 of Archie Comics is clearly based on Hulk Hogan, muscular with a handlebar moustache and sunglasses.
  • It's All About Me: Robotnik looks out for #1 all the time. Even his grand schemes involve a world enslaved with only himself as the last sentient being. Dr. Eggman had some care for other characters, but Robotnik was selfish to the core.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Dr. Robotnik would at times have potentially funny moments or almost-sympathetic points (like his love for King Gong) that would ultimately show him to be rotten to the core with his funny moments never really negating how cruel he could be and his near sympathetic points founded entirely on self-interest. While in many ways Eggman is a more heinous character, he ended up being given more concrete moments of sympathy, which Robotnik never had.
  • Killed Off for Real: Robotnik Prime was killed in issue 50, but made a brief return thanks to Eggman, only to get put down for good. And thanks to the temporal damage done by the Super Genesis Wave rewriting his entire universe on a historical and molecular scale, not only does he not exist anymore, he never even existed in the first place.
  • Laughably Evil: Due to being a Composite Character of both his animated counterparts of the time, Robotnik, while having the same horrific track record as his Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) counterpart, was still very hammy and clownish, especially in early comics where he acted more like a petty buffoon. As Cerebus Syndrome kicked in, the consequences of his crimes were taken more seriously, though he retained a comedic wit and was still an overall easily frustrated and humiliated man-child, only going purely serious in "Endgame".
  • Mighty Glacier: His size and weight makes him considerably slow, but can be a physical threat up close. His final battle against Sonic in End Game has him keep up with the Blue Blur in a fist fight.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Robotnik is essentially an overgrown brat who wants everything to be his way and everyone else to do whatever he tells them to do, and he is easily frustrated by setbacks and humiliations.
  • Psychotic Smirk: A memorable one in the "Endgame Arc" wherein Dr. Robotnik dreams of his life when he was still Julian Kintobor and how he was rescued by Jules and Charles; all to help escalate the war between Overlanders and Mobians. The suspended and still not fully conscious Robotnik lets out a small smile at the memory of the carnage he had wrought.
  • Rage Quit: He once had a backup plan if Sonic and the Freedom Fighters were to ever win called "Operation: Wasteland". It essentially had every last Badnik and SWATBot turning around and destroying everything. Luckily, Robotnik shut the operation down. Unfortunately, it was when everyone thought he was dead.
  • The Sociopath: Robotnik only cares about himself and his empire; everything else is just something for him to use or destroy. Case in point: he was perfectly willing and able to use human test subjects for the Ultimate Annihilator, a weapon capable of erasing objects from existence. His backup plan for failure was also to just nuke the entire planet, finding no reason for any of Mobius to exist unless he got to rule over it. While Eggman is often stated to be even more evil and nasty than him on multiple occasions, even he still ended up having genuine Pet the Dog moments, whereas Robotnik didn't.
  • Spanner in the Works: He simply planned on sabotaging Uncle Chuck's Roboticizer, not realizing that it would fully transform its victims and take their free will. Once Chuck entrusts the tech to him, he sets up a full scale invasion.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Julian and Colin looked very similar as children, Julian simply being the fatter of the two. As they grew older they began looking more and more different with Colin's buff physic and full head of hair contrasting Julian's obesity and baldness.
  • Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum: Not acted upon, but apparently this was his backup plan if Sonic was at any point assured to overthrow him. His entire forces are equipped with a phrase command that upon using would be reprogrammed to just wipe out the entire planet. At one point Snively unknowingly quotes the activation phrase, though Robotnik deactivates it before it does much more damage than mess up his lair.
  • Villainous Legacy: Robotnik's actions and sinister influence leave a shadow on the comic long after his death in issue 50. Eggman, his replacement, is an Alternate Self who has a near-identical backstory and brought with him all of the history and hatred for Sonic that the original Robotnik had; thus, anything Robotnik probably would have done if he had survived beyond his final battle with Sonic was carried on by Eggman.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He shows signs of this in #25, the same issue Amy is introduced. He holds Amy and Tails hostage. In various other issues, he (and his goons) attack plenty of teenaged and kid heroes, so...yeah.

Badniks

     Crocbot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2018_09_06_at_83548_pm.png

Robotnik's Underboss running the Empire's operations in the Downunda. This mechanical crocodile first debuted in Tails' miniseries and is the Arch-Enemy of the Downunda Freedom Fighters. Crocbot feigns loyalty to Robotnik in order to acquire resources and troops seeking to reprogram the soldiers into loyalty to him and him alone so he can claim Mobius for himself.

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Robotnik created him to rule Downunda, never suspecting that his own creation would plot to overthrow him.
  • Arc Villain: Served as the Big Bad for Tails' miniseries, then made occasional appearances in some form or another.
  • Awesome Aussie: A tough Underboss from Downunda, the counterpart to Australia, Crocbot has the heavy accent and the aesthetic. His master plan to reprogram Robotnik's Swatbots involve giving them all "Crocodile" Dundee hats like the one he has.
  • The Bus Came Back: After his defeat in the Tails series he was thought to be dead until he returned for the Endgame arc.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: It's implied that he beat up a captured Wombat Stu off-panel. When he returns this is what he did to the Downunda Freedom Fighters after he caught them with Walt Wallabee and Barby Koala in especially bad shape when we see them again. Crocbot intended to do the same to Bunnie and Antoine before doing away with them.
  • Dark Lord on Life Support: His third appearence. The Endgame battle damaged him heavily, reducing Crocbot to a head and upper-torso with no limbs left. He had a brainwashed Bill take him from the site of his former prison and attatch him to a power-cable so he could remain alive; his plan to use a hypnotized Bill to salvage a Combot that could properly repair him.
  • Disney Villain Death: His first appearance ends with him driving a tank off a cliff due to an explosion. He gets better.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: He's one of Robotnik's lackeys, yet he rules Downunda with an iron fist. He yearns to usurp his boss as the Big Bad.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: He works for Robotnik, yet is planning to overthrow him.
  • Evil Overlord: He ruled Downunda with an iron fist, pretty much doing what Robotnik was doing to Mobotropolis.
  • Green and Mean: He's a robotic crocodile and just as vile as his creator.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: In his second appearance, his lower half is fused to his tank, as result of an explosion.
  • Kick the Dog: It's implied that he beat up Wombat Stu when he was tied to a rack for no other reason than For the Evulz.
  • Never Found the Body: They didn't check if the explosion killed him at the end of Tails's miniseries and true to form he was back in action. After his defeat in the Endgame saga the Downunda fighters noted that while they didn't find his body they found enough pieces of him to comfortably state that he was dead. Naturally there was enough of him remaining together to keep him alive.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: A violent and especially unpleasant roboticized crocodile.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: He was introduced as a comedic villain initially with a lot Australian jokes and the typical effectiveness of the average villain for the comic (i.e. not totally useless but played for humor and easier to beat). When he returns, his stereotypical Australian mannerisms have been replaced with pure malice. His design is also revamped to be much more intimidating.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When he returns to the story his formerly normal looking eyes are restructured into bright red lenses. His victims are sometimes reflected in them.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: He's a robotic crocodile with a thoroughly nasty, sadistic personality.
  • Revenge by Proxy: He plans a nasty death for Bunnie and Antoine in order to get Tails to return to Downunda, then he can exact his revenge. Thankfully, this scheme never gets past the drawing board.
  • Robotic Psychopath: Considering who made him, this shouldn't come as a surprise.
  • Sadist: He just loves inflicting pain and misery.
  • Shoulders of Doom: His shoulders have spikes on them.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His initial look had spikes on his shoulder, gauntlets and tail.
  • The Starscream: He's essentially a prototypical "Egg Boss" that got introduced into the comic and served as a major lieutenant to Robotnik. He was mainly characterized as a would-be usurper.
  • Wardens Are Evil: Crocbot turns the crater he was blown up in into a combination of a prison and mine wherein he has prisoners working to extract ore for Robotnik.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He really has it in for Tails, especially since his defeat.

     Octobot
A mechanical octopus sub-boss built to oversee the roboticization of sea Mobians. Tails put an end to the operation and Octobot became a minor recurring antagonist.

  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: As a robot octopus he fights with his multiple tentacles.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Octobot debuted in the sillier issues of Archie Sonic and never really became a major player in the more serious arcs like Crocbot. Though his appearance in Tail's miniseries nearly had him drown the titular character before being stopped and squashed flat.
  • No Waterproofing in the Future: Averted. Robotnik tended to make his Badnik's waterproof and Octobot was one of many designed for sea combat.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He attempts to kill Tails by dragging him to the bottom of the ocean. Thankfully, he's saved by the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters.

     Croctobot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2019_01_01_at_123959_pm.png

The fusion of Crocbot and Octobot that Eggman cobbled together and deployed to kill Sonic on his birthday. Debuted in Ian Flynn's first issue.

  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Croctobot is for the most part played for comedy and far less of a threat than Crocbot was. You almost feel bad for him when Sonic stops taking him seriously.
  • Killed Off for Real: Croctobot is destroyed by Shadow, Sonic, and Scourge ripping through him. His failure causes Eggman to lose faith in independent soldiers and he opts not to rebuild Croctobot leaving him effectively dead.
  • Voice of the Legion: Croctobot's speech bubbles emit from both Crocbot's mouth and Octobot's, giving him this effect.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Croctobot is in about 3 issues and those issues mainly set up Scourge as the new antagonist on the block. Narratively Croctobot was far less important than Crocbot.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: Sonic's reaction to him.
Sonic: "Lamest — Badnik — Ever!"
    Croctobot: "Hey! I'm terrifying!"

     Mecha "M" Robotnik
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captura_de_tela_2023_10_15_232058.png
Doctor Eggman's "daughter", she is a very powerful robot.
  • Combat Stilettos: M's design includes a pair of these. Though as a robot she's not wearing shoes and the stiletto heels are actually just her feet.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Very loyal to her father. This backfires on her when he orders her to self-destruct out of paranoia.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: M loves her father and does what she can to help him in his schemes.
  • Killed Off for Real: Robotnik, in a paranoid rage, commands her to self-destruct. Left with no choice but to obey, she explodes. Robotnik then commands A.D.A.M to delete all of her backup files to make sure she never comes back.
  • Knight of Cerebus: A far more competent Badnik, she nearly shoots down Sonic after his year long absence.
  • Mad Scientist's Beautiful Daughter: She is more conventionally attractive than her "father" and his cartoony proportions.
  • No Water Proofing In The Future: Oddly enough, considering Robotnik waterproofs many of his other creations. M is first defeated when Sonic dumps her into water, short-circuiting.
  • Only Sane Woman: Among Robotnik's minions.
  • Put on a Bus: No longer exists due to the Penders lawsuit; actually introduced by Karl Bollers. Granted, she died before the lawsuit even happened, so it's not like it matters.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: Robotnik went the extra mile designing her, even giving her synthetic skin like the robot body he used to occupy. Beyond that M's noted to have free-will, a rarity in Robotnik's creations.
  • Sinister Shades: M always wears a distinctive pair of sunglasses. They hide her robotic eyes which can fire laser beams when the shades come off. With them on M can pass for human.
  • Super-Strength: She is much stronger than her slender appearance would suggest.

     A.D.A.M.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2020_11_01_a_d_a_m.png

A computer program meant to serve Eggman. It gained sentience and assumed control of Eggman's nanites, using the Freedom Fighter, Tommy Turtle, as a living avatar to bond onto and try to kill the doctor.

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: For the good doctor though no ally of the Freedom Fighters. He's looking out for himself.
  • Bait the Dog: Initially A.D.A.M. didn't seem all that bad. He was a Comically Serious character with a naivety stemming from his literal-mindedness; Tails even "defeats" him in the first arc by playing a game of riddles, which A.D.A.M. admits to having enjoyed. As the series goes on A.D.A.M. grows to be a much more violent, manipulative, and cruel character than originally believed, nearly killing Bunnie, jacking Tommy's body, and having his sister M killed.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to his sister Mecha's Abel. Mecha and A.D.A.M. actually didn't have much of a relationship at all, but A.D.A.M. saw her as a threat to his plans and tricked Robotnik into ordering her to self destruct; later A.D.A.M. would delete her files himself. It's implied that part of this was out of envy of M being Eggman's favorite.
  • Fun with Acronyms: His name is short for Autonomous Digital Assault Microbe. Also for "Adam Determines Anonymous' Movements".
  • Killed Off for Real: Dies when Tommy allows Eggman to obliterate the both of them via the Egg Armada.
  • Logic Bomb: Thrives on logic, allowing the heroes to sometimes stall for time. Tails used riddles and jokes to prevent A.D.A.M from attacking Station Square. Later, Sonic used logic to free Bunnie from his clutches.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Under the moniker "Anonymous", A.D.A.M manipulated a lot of events behind the scenes including Mammoth Mongol, Ixis and the Destructix as well as Eggman. This lead to the death of his "sister", M whom he framed was working against Eggman. Eggman promptly had M self destruct as a result and any files of her deleted. He later regretted that decision when he found out A.D.A.M's deception.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Sorta, due to making a city full of nanites. NICOLE would later use it to create a New Mobotropolis, locating the citizens of Knothole there after Eggman destroys their initial home.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot. However, his nanites are briefly mentioned in the first post-reboot issue.
  • Red Herring: Before the reveal that Anonymous was A.D.A.M. the narration implied Anonymous was the original Robotnik brought back to life again and that was how he knew so much about the world, even giving Anonymous a rotund silhouette.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: When it took control of the nanites, it was able to do this. Though could only move around using Tommy Turtle's body.

     Krudzu / Krudzu Hybrid Hydra
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krudzu_hybrid_hydra.png
An experimental mechanical plant created by Robotnik.
  • The Assimilator: After its first appearance, a surviving sprig of the Krudzu adapted to be able to absorb and integrate machinery and Badniks into itself, allowing it to use their powers and pieces as weapons and defense.
  • Book Ends: The Krudzu was the first opponent Sonic and the Freedom Fighters faced in the very first issue. In the last issues before the reboot, the Krudzu Hybrid Hydra was the last major opponent Sonic and friends fought.
  • Botanical Abomination: As the Hybrid Hydra, which can assimilate robots and machines to make itself into a nightmarish mishmash of mecha-plant and Badnik.
  • Starter Villain: He was one of the first threats to the Freedom Fighters, early in the first issue of the entire comic series.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The Krudzu was instantly shorted out and killed the moment it began to rain on Knothole. Robotnik was understandably furious about this. Much later when Eggman sent it after Team Fighters as part of a Titan Metal Sonic they managed to knock it into the ocean and seemingly defeated it, but the KHH managed to assimilate a Crabmeat and remove its weakness to water.
  • When Trees Attack: The Krudzu acts just like its real-life inspiration, the kudzu, growing incredibly quickly and entangling everything in its vicinity. Unlike the real plant, it's a thinking machine that does this with malevolence and destruction in mind. It nearly completely choked out and destroyed the forest Knothole was hidden in before it was stopped.

Dark Egg Legion

Formed from the remnants of the Dark Legion, mostly consisted of echidnas until more sub-bosses were introduced. The the process of creating cyborgs known as "legionization" was utilized after roboticization became moot, with explosives built in as failsafes to keep them from turning on him.

Soumerca D-E-L

     Drago Wolf
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-dragowolf01_4789.png

A disgraced former member of the Wolf Pack; he not only sold out his team and the Freedom Fighters to Robotnik for power, he used his would-be girlfriend Hershey as a tool to assassinate Sally and frame Sonic. Was the co-Grandmaster of Soumerca's chapter of the Dark Egg Legion.

  • Brains and Brawn: Serves as the latter in the Soumerca D.E.L.
  • Butt-Monkey: Every appearance he makes has him get punched in the face at least once, and on the covers he gets abused.
  • Domestic Abuser: It was all but directly shown that he was violent towards his ex-girlfriend, Hershey the Cat.
  • Dumb Muscle: Drago's not exactly strong in the intelligence department, falling for Sally's simple "brainless damsel in distress" act.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He spent his time in the Devil's Gulag mocking Snively for being weak and for thinking he can stage a jailbreak. When it seems that Snively actually succeeded in disabling all of the locks (in reality it was a plan by Robo-Robotnik), Drago seeks him out, finding Snively hiding in a corner. Instead of attacking him Drago applauds the plan and says Snively should lead them.
  • Hate Sink: Drago Wolf is not a nice guy at all. He was an abusive boyfriend to Hershey, manipulated her into trying to assassinate Sally and frame Sonic, and betrayed his fellow members of the Wolf Pack and the Freedom Fighters to Robotnik all for power. Even the writers themselves hate Drago's guts, and every time they write him in, they ensure he gets at least a punch in the face; Ian Flynn in particular has openly and gleefully admitted that he only brings Drago in when he wants someone to get beaten up.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Well, ineffective and a villain, anyway. But because he is a Domestic Abuser, no one feels any sympathy for him, not even the audience, who always eagerly awaited the latest abuse heaped on him.
  • Jerkass: DEAR GOD, YES!
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the Penders lawsuit. One of the few characters that were not missed by the fans.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Was roboticized by Eggman after betraying the Freedom Fighters.
  • Smug Snake: Thinks highly of his own intelligence and abilities, with absolutely nothing to back it up.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Was this to Lupe’s Freedom Fighter group before he made his move.
  • Villain Ball: Always failing due to his ego and incompetence.

     Razorklaw
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/razorklawlegionized_9063.png

Former co-Grandmaster of Soumerca's chapter of the Dark Egg Legion. He used to live in the Mysterious Cat Clan alongside Queen Hathor, and was her strongest champion.

  • Brains and Brawn: Has the former role as Grandmaster.
  • The Bus Came Back: Razorklaw was originally one of the Cat Clan who debuted in the Sonic Adventure adaptation, challenging Locke to combat. He resurfaced years later as a member of Robotnik's Dark Egg Legion.
  • Cats Are Mean: He is a feline who works for Eggman.
  • Only Sane Man: Of the Soumerca Dark Egg Legion, especially when compared to his partner Drago.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the Penders lawsuit.

Great Desert D-E-L

     Beauregard "Baron" Rabbot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/187px-beau_rabbot_3891.jpg

The uncle of Bunnie Rabbot, he was one of the victims of Robotnik's roboticization. Sometime after the de-roboticization from the Beam, he and several other former robians were subjugated and oppressed by the citizens of Sand Blast City. After leading his group out to the Badlands, he sought Eggman for help, and is now the Great Desert Egg Boss.

  • Cyborg: Though the arms are mirrored, he's apparently exactly the same as his niece, with one arm and both legs being cybernetic.
  • Distaff Counterpart: His niece Bunnie is this to him.
  • Everybody Has Standards: Granted he is the nicest DEL Grandmaster, but while he disdainfully calls the Kingdom of Acorn royal family “oppressors” he was appalled seeing the Weaponised Mecha Sally.
    • Also he tried to stop Ray and Matilda from fighting saying children shouldn’t fight.
  • Nice Guy/Token Good Teammate: Despite working for Eggman, he's only doing it out of necessity for his people then any malicious intent since the Sand Blasters have more firepower then them and won't let them leave the region alive if they try to escape. Otherwise he's quite a decent fellow who loves his niece dearly and would more then likely be on the heroes side if it wasn't for circumstances beyond his control.
  • Punny Name: He's a literal "Oil Baron"
  • Put on a Bus: Gone after the reboot; while he was Ian's creation, he was derived from a line dropped in a Gallagher story.
  • Trapped in Villainy: He only returned to working for Eggman because the Sand Blast City Freedom Fighters were so abusive to the ex-robians. That said, it's obvious he really doesn't like working for Eggman and will do what he can to undermine him while keeping his cover. He even helps Mighty reunite with his sister and had even taken care of her before then.

     Matilda the Armadillo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/230px-matildafront_6814.jpg

Mighty's younger sister, who he became separated with after their parents were imprisoned. She spent her life living in an orphanage and was roboticized for over a decade. Due to being a former Robian, she went to Eggman for help after being oppressed by the Sand Blast Freedom Fighters. Additionally, being robotcized for so long effectively halted her aging for the duration

  • Badass Adorable: She is very Adorable but if you mess with her brother she will hurt you with those cybernetic arms of hers.
  • Berserk Button: Seeing Mighty in trouble snaps her out of her stoic nature.
  • Big Brother Worship: After being reunited with her brothers she becomes very attached to them.
  • Cyborg: A pair of mechanical arms with The Big O pistons attached to them.
  • Older Than They Look: Being a Robian prevented her from aging, and since she was in that state for over a decade it makes her look like a child despite only being slightly chronologically younger than her brother.
  • Made of Iron: Jokes about her cybernetics aside, she punched a missile and survived the explosion. True, she used a The Big O style piston-punch to deflect most of the explosion but the worst injury she took was the loss of that arm. And she's a little girl.
  • Not So Stoic: With a little push from Ray after he dresses her down for not recognizing Mighty's efforts to find her. When one of the Sand Blasters try to attack Mighty while he's helpless, she snaps out of it and gives the attacker what for.
  • Put on a Bus: Gone due to Executive Meddling from Sega; while she was Ian's creation, she was derived from a line dropped in a Penders story. However being the sister of Mighty (a Sega character) might still have gotten her booted from the reboot continuity.
  • The Stoic: Became this from the harsh life she had lived. Meeting Mighty helps her get past it.
  • Shout-Out: Her arms are based directly on The Big O.
  • Super-Strength: Like her brother, due to her cybernetics.
  • Tempting Fate: Her final appearance had her and Mighty promise to see each other again. After this, she was wiped from existence, causing Mighty to never have had a sister.

Downunda D-E-L

     Duck "Bill" Platypus

Originally a member of the Downunda Freedom Fighters. At one point he was forced under Crocbot's mind control but was eventually saved. Some time after the Xorda attack, Bill was pressured by his fellow platypus' to reluctantly join the Eggman Empire, becoming their Grandmaster as a result. He tried to cripple a part of the Empire from the inside while facing his former comrades, but eventually managed to inform his former team of this.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Thanks to Crocbot.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Subverted, Bill only sided with Eggman because his people pressured him into it.
  • Fake Defector: After Bill's people willingly joined with Eggman, he did as well in order to make sure they didn't suffer too much under his rule, while still being loyal to his team.
  • Mole in Charge: Despite his position, he’s still a loyal Freedom Fighter.
