Take a sip and spit it out, it's time to burn in this mountain man town! From left to right: Jeff, Huckleberry, Trapper, Buck, Wild Bill and Willy.
For generations, the Appalachian Mountains have had more sightings of mysterious creatures than anywhere else in the United States. Now a band of hardcore hunters and trappers are out to identify these unexplained creatures once and for all.

Meet the Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (A.I.M.S.) team, a band of six native West Virginian hunters and trappers who research and track unidentified creatures in the Appalachian Mountains. They are composed of John "Trapper" Tice, Team Leader (May 24, 1947 — December 16, 2019); Jacob "Buck" Lowe, the Expert Caller (formerly "Rookie"); Joseph "Huckleberry" Lott, Security; Jeff Headlee, Researcher; Willy McQuillian, Trap Builder and William "Wild Bill" Neff, Expert Tracker.

The monsters these men go after include Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti, The Mothman, Chupacabra, and Hellhound.

This series provides examples of the following:

  • Agony of the Feet: One hunt had to be called off early after Buck ended up with a nail through his foot.
  • All for Nothing: Alas, a common fate for the traps Willy and Wild Bill make. They spend countless hours making the traps, only for it to be wasted when the creature either escapes or avoids the trap all together.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Buck, when he was just the rookie in the first season.
  • Bears Are Bad News: One of the creatures connected to Spearfinger is called the Silver Giant.
  • Berserk Button: Wild Bill, an avid bear lover, hates it when a creature attacks his favorite animal.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: The more common type of monsters featured on this show. Two seasons became dedicated to hunting down the various "Bigfoot Clans" that live in the mountains.
  • The Conspiracy: All based around certain types of cryptids the boys have gone after before such as the Cherokee Devil, the Cherokee Death Cat and the Raven Mocker.
  • Deep South: It's a show taking place in the Appalachia Mountains, what did you expect?
  • Full-Boar Action: One of the few creatures the boys actually catch in their traps is Hogzilla.
  • Hillbilly Moonshiner: In "The Grassman's Revengeance", the team has to deal with a group of moonshiners who have also encountered the Grassman, who's been getting into their mash and getting drunk off it.
  • Large Ham: The boys like to get into hillbilly hijinks in an attempt to lighten the tension of hunting monsters in the dark.
  • Mega Neko: The Cherokee Death Cat, a creature that Buck has a fixation on due to his Cherokee ancestry. It is also one of the creatures connected to Spearfinger.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: The Sheepsquatch, a creature that is said to be a human-shaped ram.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When the boys aren't their usual hillbilly hijinks selves, you know something is wrong.
  • Our Witches Are Different: The Woman of the Woods, an omen of death if she touches you, is believed to be part of the legend of the Raven Mocker.
  • Passing the Torch: Following Trapper's illness, Buck took on the mantle of team leader.
  • Sackhead Slasher: The leader of the Rogue Team wears a burlap sack for a mask and a blue coat.
  • Savage Wolves: The Smoke Wolves from the Tygart Valley saga.
  • Scary Scarecrows: During an investigation of the Death Cat, the boys end up getting attacked by a man wearing a scarecrow costume.
  • Skin Walker: These appear to be the main antagonists in the "Quest for Spearfinger" saga. The Waya Woman, the first creature connected to Spearfinger, is revealed to be one, something that frightens the boys.
  • Skull for a Head: Some of the members of "the Rogue Team" wear skull masks.
  • Southern-Fried Private: Wild Bill is a former marine, which helps with his and Willy's trapping skills.
  • Those Wily Coyotes: One of the creatures connected to Spearfinger is called the Coyote King.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Following Trapper's death, the AIMS team focused more on the mysteries he left behind in the Tygart Valley rather than pursue Spearfinger.
