    Jotaro Kujo

Jotaro Kujo

Stand: Star Platinum

https://mediaproxy.tvtropes.org/width/350/https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4706fb00_c138_4695_9d96_6eb07b2b3fde.png

The Fourth JoJo, grandson of Joseph Joestar, and son of Sadao Kujo. Jotaro Kujo is perhaps the most legendary of the entire Joestar clan and for good reason.

His Stand, Star Platinum (named after the Star tarot card), is a close-range Stand with exceptional speed, accuracy, and strength.

  • Action Dad: Becoming a father of three doesn't weaken him in the slightest. If anything he's become stronger since he has more to fight for.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: He's normally The Stoic, but two things throughout the series actually get him to laugh. The first is finding out the location of Arabia Fats, the Stand user controlling the Stand Sun, and how stupid the hiding place ultimately is. The second is when he learns about Joseph having a bastard son, and seeing Joseph's wife Suzi Q try to castrate him with a melon baller while Applejack holds her back and Ceaser has Joseph in a headlock.
  • Adaptational Badass: Fluttershy had convinced him to continue training his new time stop ability, so he's become quite skilled with it. Though unlike DIO he can only keep it up for five seconds to avoid risking heart failure.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: He and his daughter Jolyne have a much better relationship.
  • Brick Joke: Early on Fluttershy notes that Jotaro had only one injury in a fight during elementary school. Several chapters later when fighting Alessi, Fluttershy clarifies the injury was Jotaro cutting his knuckles when he punched his opponent's teeth out.
  • Crossover Couple: He's the boyfriend of Fluttershy here, having gotten together before the start of Stardust Crusaders.
  • Famed In-Story: By the time of the late 2010s, almost every Stand user knows who he is and respects him.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's not just a thug with incredible strength. He's highly intelligent and often thinks through problems, whether they be fights or other dangers.
  • Happily Married: He and Fluttershy marry each other after Stardust Crusaders but before Diamond is Unbreakable.
  • Hidden Depths: He's more of a nerd than you'd think by looking at him, since he enjoys the Super Sentai series, and it's noted by his father, Sadao, that he never misses a single episode. His favorite season (as of Diamond is Unbreakable) is Gekisou Sentai Carranger.
  • Redundant Rescue: He saves Fluttershy from rapists prior to the start of the story, but we soon learn that Fluttershy could have handled the punks without him...
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He manages to survive the events of Stone Ocean, though he does still suffer a facial scar.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: He regrets not meeting N'Doul before the latter fell in with DIO, believing they might have become friends due to having similar backgrounds in being treated and/or feeling like outcasts for circumstances beyond their control.

    Fluttershy

Himari Utsukushicho

Stand: Music in the Trees

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fluttershy_47.png

Jotaro's girlfriend, Fluttershy is a shy and gentle girl who can become quite assertive when she needs to be.

Her Stand, Music in the Trees (named after an Andrea Libman song), grants her powers relating to both plant life and animals.

  • Action Mom: In Diamond is Unbreakable she's shown to be even feistier after giving birth to Jolyne, Josefumi, and Shiro.
  • Adaptational Badass: This Fluttershy, while still a bit shy herself like her canon counterpart, is more assertive and willing to fight, especially if Jotaro is involved. She's also a Stand user with power over nature and animals, whereas canon Fluttershy, who was no slouch herself at times when it came to saving the world, was more of a Shrinking Violet who had trouble standing up for herself and reacted more to threats than actively confronting them herself.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Despite her being revealed to be living with Discord in her show's last episode, it only amounted to Ship Tease between them and it was never made explicit whether she is Discord's lover or not. Here, she is Jotaro's girlfriend during Stardust Crusaders, and she later marries him and has Jolyne Kujo with him in Stone Ocean.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Canon Fluttershy could not only talk to animals (and take care of them), but she also had a unique ability called "The Stare", which is essentially a magical Death Glare with nigh-hypnotic properties. Here, Fluttershy can still talk to animals, but it's an extension of her Stand, Music in the Trees, since animals are part of nature. She also lacks her canon counterpart's Stare ability.
  • Battle Couple: More than once Fluttershy has joined Jotaro in beating down an opponent.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a very gentle girl who could be shy and easily embarrassed at times. However, according to Jotaro, she has a "long temper" that is as deadly as Mount Vesuvius. This is best shown when she reaches her Rage Breaking Point and viciously attacks Midler for daring to flirt with her boyfriend Jotaro, using Music in the Trees to cut up the inside of Midler's mouth.
  • Chekhov's Skill: She displays her Oak Barrier during the fight with Kakyoin, an early sign that she's a skilled Stand user. She later uses the same technique to protect both herself and Kakyoin from DIO's attack during the final battle with DIO, allowing Kakyoin to survive past his canon death.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Downplayed, but Midler flirting with Jotaro turned out to be the straw that broke the camel's back in regards to girls forgetting that she's already dating Jotaro.
  • Cool Big Sis: Anne starts seeing her as one after witnessing her and Jotaro take down a few of DIO's Stand assassins. The praise is enough to make her blush out of embarrassment.
  • Crossover Relatives: She becomes Jolyne and Josefumi Kujo's mother in Stone Ocean. She's also a paternal cousin of Sunset Shimmer via their fathers being brothers.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She gets along with any animal she meets, including Iggy, whom she gave the ability to speak thanks to her Stand's animal-related powers. The only exception she makes is Forever, as the orangutan has human-like sentience yet is a minion of DIO's who chooses to lust after her and the much younger Anne.
  • Genre Savvy: She's surprisingly good at picking out Stand users in a crowd, which makes sense since she was born a Stand user.
  • Green Thumb: Her Stand's primary ability allows her to generate plants.
  • Happily Married: She and Jotaro marry each other after Stardust Crusaders but before Diamond is Unbreakable.
  • Idiot Ball: When Jotaro uses his cigarette smoke bluff to expose Captain Tennille (really the Tarot Assassin Dragon), Fluttershy holds her hand to her nose like the other Stand users... And then immediately realizes Jotaro was bluffing since he's smoked in her presence before and she never had any veins expand on her nose.
  • The Movie Buff: She's a big fan of American movies, which quickly endears her to Joseph.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She normally wouldn't hurt animals, but she makes an exception with the orangutan Forever since his sentience is equal to a human and he clearly has no morals.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only female member of the titular Stardust Crusaders. Anne temporarily joins the group, making them Two Girls to a Team, but Anne is later sent home after she becomes The Load.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: A secondary ability of her Stand, which she can also invert by allowing animals to speak fluent human. This is because animals are part of nature as much as plants are.
  • Statuesque Stunner: It's very subtle and not elaborated on in the story, but Fluttershy is only a head shorter than Jotaro and the others.

    Muhammad Avdol

Muhammad Avdol

Stand: Magician's Red

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/41c07432_ad3a_4e7b_aa2e_7c04734b7561.png

A fortune teller and a good friend of Joseph.

His Stand, Magician's Red (named after the Magician tarot card), allows him to manipulate fire.

  • Easily Forgiven: He holds no grudge against Hol Horse for trying to kill him after the former assassin joins the team.
  • Exact Words: As he notes to Waver Velvet, Islamic rules forbid the drinking of alcholic beverages. That doesn't mean they can't drink anything, as the modern age has plenty of non-alcholic beverages besides water, such as soda or juice.
  • Force and Finesse: The finesse to his younger brother Radames' force. He even notes to Polnareff that his favorite thing about controlling fire isn't how destructive it can be, but how it can easily be used to inhibit an opponent's sight.
  • Fortune Teller: His profession, though he doesn't show it very often. The one time we see it is when he uses a tarot deck to let Jotaro find a name for his Stand.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: The fact that he actually survives the attack from Hol Horse and J. Geil is revealed early in the story, though of course Polnareff and Kakyoin are long gone by the time the rest of the group checks in on him.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He and Iggy survive the confrontation with Vanilla Ice.
  • Token Religious Teammate: He's the only member of the team who has a definitive religious affiliation, being a confirmed Muslim.

    Noriaki Kakyoin

Noriaki Kakyoin

Stand: Hierophant Green

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/080fc13b_70a4_4d1a_aeed_00651034f162.png

A high school student who is a classmate of Jotaro Kujo and Fluttershy, Noriaki Kakyoin was temporarily mind-controlled by DIO. Once freed, he joins the JoJo team in their quest to defeat DIO.

His Stand, Hierophant Green (named after the Hierophant tarot card), can generate emerald-based attacks and stretch itself.

  • Badass Teacher: He becomes a mentor to both Koichi and other new Stand users, especially those freshly awakened by the Stand arrow.
  • Big Good: He becomes this during Jojolion, taking control of Hope's Peak Academy with help from the Speedwagon Foundation and turning it into a proper school. This derails the entire storyline of Danganronpa, as his efforts not only foster a more positive environment for the students, but also interrupts the Steering Committee's Izuru Kamukura project that caused Hope's Peak Academy so much misery in canon.
  • Bully Hunter: In his youth, he used Hierophant Green to possess bullies and force them to apologize to their victims.
  • Crossover Relatives: Through his mother, he is a maternal descendant of Izuru Kamukura, the founder of Hope's Peak Academy and a very minor character in the Danganronpa series. He uses that connection to take Hope's Peak Academy away from the Steering Committee, as his mother's maiden name was Kamukura.
  • Forgot Flanders Could Do That: While he mostly uses Hierophant Green's Emerald Splash ability, Diamond is Unbreakable reminds us that it is also capable of possessing and controlling people's bodies.
  • Scars Are Forever: He's shown in later parts to still have scars over his eyes from when he was attacked by N'Doul and Geb.
  • Spanner in the Works: Taking control of Hope's Peak Academy and turning it into a proper school under the Speedwagon Foundation's education division derails the entire storyline of Danganronpa, as without the Steering Committee's influence, the students become more heroic and well-adjusted compared to their canon selves.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He is saved by Fluttershy from what would have been a fatal blow from DIO in canon.

    Jean-Pierre Polnareff

Jean-Pierre Polnareff

Stand: Silver Chariot, Silver Chariot Requiem

https://mediaproxy.tvtropes.org/width/350/https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7a5afc87_4645_471a_8e86_6a69e57f13b0.png

A Frenchman formerly brainwashed by DIO, Jean-Pierre Polnareff was rescued by the JoJo team and freed of DIO's brainwashing. Out of gratitude, Polnareff joins the heroes in order to bring the murderer of his sister Sherry to justice.

His first Stand, Silver Chariot (named after the Chariot tarot card), is an incredibly fast Stand that can generate afterimages and is exceedingly skilled with a rapier.

His second Stand, Silver Chariot Requiem, can swap the souls of everyone in a wide radius, putting them to sleep to make the transition painless. If allowed to be active for too long, it will start swapping whole bodies. Any Stands that get near it will be turned against the user and be made stronger. The only way to stop it is to destroy its shadow, but doing so will sacrifice the soul attached to it.

  • Abled in the Adaptation: Canon Polnareff tried taking on Diavolo by himself, which cost him his legs, his right eye, and his right arm. Here, his injuries didn't happen because he had Avdol and Kakyoin backing him up during the fight, allowing him to overwhelm Diavolo and force the latter into fleeing France.
  • Adaptational Explanation: His canon idea of tickling Mannish Boy (to make him eat Kakyoin's baby food) is explained here as coming from his past experience of raising his sister Sherry by himself.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: While he still has his lapses in judgement, he is less of a Butt-Monkey here compared to his canon counterpart, showing greater common sense and insight when situations call for it.
  • Adaptational Origin Connection: When his Stand goes Requiem from exposure to the Requiem arrow, he winds up swapping souls with Abbacchio instead of Coco Jumbo. And since neither of them die during the incident, he ultimately winds up back in his own body without issue.
  • Adaptational Seriousness: While he still has his Butt-Monkey moments here, he is much more serious and intelligent in this setting due to changed circumstances and choices involved. Instead, some of the humiliating situations that happened to his canon counterpart instead happen to Joseph.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Canon Polnareff never married anyone despite his Casanova Wannabe tendencies. Here, he mentions marrying an Egyptian woman named Malèna he met during the journey, who works as a psychologist sometime after the events of Stardust Crusaders.
  • Badass Teacher: He's the one who trained his sister's friend, Antoinette from Steel Ball Run, to become such a skilled Stand user. And like his canon counterpart, he's a Stand user himself.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He is Sherry's older brother, and like his canon counterpart, he sought to bring his sister's murderer, J. Geil, to justice. He also takes serious offense to Cameo abusing Sherry's image to psychologically weaken him enough to be killed by Judgement, and works with Avdol in delivering a Humiliation Conga to Cameo in revenge.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his flirtatious tendencies, he never once tries to proposition Fluttershy for a date, knowing full well Jotaro wouldn't allow it.
  • If We Get Through This…: Before entering the hallway of DIO's mansion, he tells his half of the Joestar group that he'll buy everyone dinner if they come out of their entire journey alive. Hol Horse warns him not to go Tempting Fate.
Polnareff: (in response to Avdol) Tell you what, though, if we do all make it out of here, then dinner's on me.
Hol Horse: Don't go raising death flags now.
  • Ironic Echo: During their fight, J. Geil mocks Polnareff by sadistically reminiscing how Sherry's cries were "music to [his] ears" as he brutally raped and killed her. Once Polnareff manages to get an advantage over J. Geil and mortally stabs him with Silver Chariot, he taunts the latter in kind.
Polnareff: Your screams are like music to my ears. And now I'll enjoy your sobbing as I send you straight to Hell. But first there's one thing I must do that I can't trust Hell to accomplish for me... (Silver Chariot readies its blade) And that's to turn you into a pincushion! Ready yourself, J Geil, for the vengeance I've waited years for!
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Just like in canon, he was kept ignorant of Avdol's survival by his friends because they were afraid that he might accidentally reveal it prematurely given his loud mouth, which might reach DIO. Once he learns the truth, he gets angry at them over being lied to the entire time. To be fair, Avdol does apologize to him for the deception and assures him that it was for a good reason (namely, fooling DIO and his minions into thinking he died).
  • Post-Victory Collapse: Shortly after defeating and killing Devo, one of DIO's Stand assassins, he and Jonathan meet up with Fluttershy before they both collapse from their injuries.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Before delivering the final blow to J. Geil, he shouts, "Ready yourself, J. Geil, for the vengeance I've waited years for!"
  • Promotion to Parent: He raised his younger sister, Sherry, by himself after their parents both died of disease, which made Sherry's canonical rape and murder at J. Geil's hands hit especially hard for him.
  • Shipper on Deck: He subtly suggests to Hol Horse that he consider a relationship with Antoinette, his former student.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In this verse's Golden Wind, he avoids dying and having his spirit being stuck in the body of Coco Jumbo, due to Vinegar Doppio offering up his life to stop Silver Chariot Requiem in order to foil Diavolo's plans instead.

    Hol Horse

Hol Horse Zeppeli

Stand: Emperor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c5fe3322_1a2c_4a48_a5e1_834fe2df61f5.png

An ambitious traveling gunslinger, Hol Horse initially was one of DIO's hired mercenaries sent to kill the JoJo team. He ends up joining them after it's revealed he's a descendant of the Zeppeli family line via being the youngest son of Battle Tendency's protagonists, Caesar Zeppeli and Applejack.

His Stand, Emperor (named after the Emperor tarot card), is a large ornate revolver that can shoot bullets made of Stand energy.

  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: The dubiously canonical Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak depicts Hol Horse as a Shell-Shocked Veteran suffering intense PTSD from his time as one of DIO's minions following the end of the canon Stardust Crusaders. Here, because of changed circumstances, this doesn't happen as DIO is less of a Bad Boss while Hol Horse was born to a heroic family line, the Zeppelis.
  • Adaptational Badass: Canon Hol Horse was an Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain who heavily relied on J. Geil to do the fighting, and his own fighting skills essentially amounted to shooting windows and glass for J. Geil to travel through. And despite talking game about his own Stand, he is ultimately a Boisterous Weakling who is undone by his own incompetence. Here, a series of events leads to him betraying DIO and taking full control of his own life by siding with the Joestars, leading to Emperor becoming far more powerful and accurate than in canon.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Canon Hol Horse was a villainous Tarot Stand user and a hired mercenary of DIO sent to kill the Joestars and their allies. In the OVA, he made a temporary alliance to help the Joestars defeat Enya Geil, but never pulls a Heel–Face Turn and after he's defeated, he's left behind. He also tries to murder DIO, but fails and DIO terrifies him into submission. Here, after helping the Joestars defeat Enya and learning what DIO's curse was doing to Holly Kujo, he ultimately decides to betray DIO for good and, while not attempting to kill him outright like in canon, does play an important role in DIO's death (as well as the defeats of DIO's minions).
  • Adaptational Nationality: As a member of the Zeppeli family, his nationality is changed to Italian-American in this setting. In canon, he is only an American.
  • Adaptational Seriousness: Canon Hol Horse came very close to killing Avdol in his first appearance, and then became a Butt-Monkey after suffering a huge case of Villain Decay, especially after partnering with Boingo. While he stil has comedic moments, Hol Horse is much more competent and serious here; his canon role as Boingo's partner is instead taken by Tomomi Shiobana, a villainous Stand user and one of DIO's four brides.
  • Adaptational Skill: Unlike his canon counterpart, who rode only an elephant and a horse, in this setting, he has ridden "every beast of burden mankind has ever tamed", including camels. His riding knowledge comes in handy when the Stardust Crusaders need to cross a desert quickly, avoiding the comical canon scene where Joseph makes an ass of himself trying to teach the group how to ride a camel. He also mentions having occasionally ridden a motorcycle (referencing the 2000s OVA), and during the battle with Death 13, he reveals he worked for years as a mercenary, giving him more combat experience and allowing him to survive Death 13's powers.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Downplayed; while his name, Hol Horse, remains unchanged, his full name in this setting is revealed to be Hol Horse Zeppeli.
  • Alliterative Name: As in canon, Hol Horse.
  • Bang, Bang, BANG: To prevent Steely Dan from torturing Joseph with his Stand Lovers, he starts shooting around the man, using the loud noises of Emperor's gunshots to keep Steely Dan distracted until Kakyoin and Polnareff expelled Lovers from Joseph's body.
Hol Horse: (to Steely Dan after shooting to stop him from punching himself) Now don't go trying to hurt yourself. I may not be able to shoot you, but I can shoot around you. And the natural human reaction to hearing a gunshot they can't see the source of is to flinch. Fluttershy made it so that we can see inside your little prison, and I'll fire off another round every time you make to try anything like that. And lest you forget, this gun is my Stand, so I don't run out of ammo.
  • Black Sheep: Unlike his family, who are famous heroes as well as orchard farmers/owners, he chose to become a gunslinger mercenary despite his parents' objections, leading to him becoming one of DIO's assassins. However, after losing J. Geil to Polnareff, being puppeteered by Enya, and learning of how DIO was (indirectly) slowly killing Holly Kujo, he decides to betray DIO and join the heroes instead.
  • Boring, but Practical: His Stand, Emperor, manifests as a revolver, which is quite lame compared to the more outlandish appearances and powers of other Stands. However, it is still a revolver, and once he pulls a Heel–Face Turn and takes control of his own life, he is able to use Emperor to greater effect, changing how DIO's minions are fought by the JoJo group.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Justified. His Stand, Emperor, manifests as a revolver, but as in canon, his ammo is infinite due to Emperor being a part of himself. This works to his advantage when he uses the loud noise of his gunshot fire to make Steely Dan flinch, therefore distracting him from hurting himself (and therefore Joseph, who is infested with Steely Dan's Stand, Lovers).
  • But Now I Must Go: At the end of Stardust Crusaders, he bids farewell to the heroes and leaves on a plane to Paris (Polnareff was staying behind to look after Kakyoin, Avdol, and Iggy while they recovered in the hospital and needed someone to inform Antoinette that he was alright). However, his Heel–Face Turn and his family's close ties to the Joestars means that he returns periodically to aid them.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Being a seasoned mercenary, he learned to sleep with his Stand active as a protection from surprise attacks. This saves his and Kakyoin's life when they are attacked by Mannish Boy's Stand, Death 13.
  • Crossover Relatives: He is the youngest son of Applejack through her husband Caesar Zeppeli in this setting, making him a Zeppeli, whereas his canon counterpart had no such relations. He is also related to Rarity by virtue of being her paternal uncle, as she is a daughter of one of his brothers.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite (initially) being a hired gun for DIO, he still had fondness for his parents, notably regretting his decision to become a traveling gunslinger instead of settling down in Applejack's farm after learning of J. Geil's death. As he told Joseph after Enya's defeat, he also refused to kill the Joestars because Joseph is best friends with his father, Caesar Zeppeli, even though he risks DIO's anger by doing so.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: What causes him to turn on DIO is finding out that DIO had been slowly killing Holly with his curse.
  • Evil Uncle: Inverted. He started off evil, but eventually betrayed DIO and became a heroic gunslinger. His paternal niece, Rarity, is the wife of Giorno Giovanna and a member of Passione, Italy's largest mafia organization. However, it would be a stretch to call Rarity "evil" as she is an Anti-Hero like Giorno is.
  • Foil: To J. Geil, his partner pre-Heel–Face Turn. In this universe, Hol Horse is a member of the heroic Zeppeli Family (specifically Caesar and Applejack's youngest son), while J. Geil is a son of Enya and DIO. Hol Horse is a Hitman with a Heart who treats his girlfriends kindly even though part of it is out of pragmatism, while J. Geil is a psychotic Serial Rapist who also kills his rape victims. Hol Horse's Stand, Emperor, is a revolver which, while mostly used to support J. Geil, can be used as a weapon by itself. J. Geil's Stand, Hanged Man, however, is entirely dependent on reflective surfaces, such as the ones Hol Horse creates with Emperor via breaking glass. This shows in their respective fates — Hol Horse ends up betraying DIO, with Emperor becoming a powerful and useful asset to the heroes, whereas J. Geil is killed by a vengeful Polnareff after he exploits the former's reliance on reflective surfaces.
  • Generation Xerox:
    • Like his father Caesar in Battle Tendency, Hol Horse initially starts off being antagonistic to one of the Joestars (Joseph, Jotaro) before warming up to them and becoming one of their staunchest allies. Though in Hol Horse's case, he was a villainous gunslinger working for DIO before making his Heel–Face Turn, whereas Caesar was just a Jerk with a Heart of Gold who initially rubbed Joseph the wrong way.
    • Hol Horse's niece, Rarity, also gets heavily involved with a blond-haired Stand user like he did, though in Rarity's case, the Stand user in question is DIO's Heroic Bastard son, Giorno Giovanna. Unlike Hol Horse, who eventually betrayed DIO and played a role in his death, Rarity becomes Giorno's loving wife and co-leader of Italy's largest mafia organization.
  • The Gunslinger: Like in canon, he's a cowboy-themed Stand user whose Stand, Emperor, manifests as a revolver that lets him psychically control the trajectory of his bullets. While he does start off as a minion of DIO's, a series of events leads to him betraying DIO and taking full control of his life, leading to Emperor becoming more powerful and accurate. Him joining the Stardust Crusaders as a permanent member ultimately changes how the rest of DIO's minions, as well as DIO himself, are fought compared to canon.
  • HA HA HA—No: Averted; unlike his canon counterpart, who does do this in response to Polnareff's "bum" joke, his response here is to stare flabbergasted before he growls in anger and immediately starts shooting.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He's blond-haired like his parents and older brother, Gyro Zeppeli. While he initially throws in his lot with DIO, a series of events leads to him making a Heel–Face Turn instead, playing this trope straight.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Unlike his parents, Caesar and Applejack, heroic Stand users who fought against the Pillar Men in Battle Tendency and ultimately won, he became a wandering gunslinger mercenary and later an assassin for DIO, a powerful vampire. He also became the partner of J. Geil, a vicious Serial Killer who raped and murdered multiple women, whereas his parents worked with Rudolf von Stroheim, a heroic Nazi. This is later averted with his Heel–Face Turn, after a series of events caused him to realize how vile of a person DIO really is.
  • Mage Marksman: As in canon, he is a Stand user whose Stand, Emperor, consists of a gun with bullets, and he can psychically control the trajectory of said bullets. Unlike canon Hol Horse, who failed to land a single hit despite his power, he becomes much more competent here after betraying DIO, with Emperor becoming more powerful and accurate due to him taking control of his own life.
  • Mythology Gag: Him joining the team is something Hirohiko Araki originally wanted to do with his canon counterpart at one point, but changed his mind when Avdol proved more popular than he expected.
  • No-Sell: As he explains to Mariah, her Stand's Magnetism Manipulation cannot affect Emperor because its bullets are made of lead. While most lead bullets can be strengthened by iron, in his case it's not necessary because his bullets are instead strengthened by his own life energy.
Hol Horse: (smirking) Did you forget how your own power works? My bullets are made from lead, a metal that can't be affected by magnets. Of course most lead bullets are strengthened by iron, but my bullets don't need that because they're strengthened by my very life energy.
  • Nothing Personal: When asked by Polnareff why he decided to help the Stardust Crusaders after previously killing Avdol (which turned out to have been faked), he replies, "[That] was just business", though he states he does regret it.
  • Oh, Crap!: Once he learns of J. Geil's death from Polnareff and Kakyoin, he becomes utterly terrified as without J. Geil and his Stand to complement his own, he is completely helpless against the heroes. He even starts regretting leaving his parents' orchard to become a gunslinger. He tries to run away under the excuse of checking J. Geil's corpse, only to be punched in the face by Jotaro; it is thanks to the intervention of Nena that he is able to escape.
  • Point of Divergence: In this setting, he is the third and youngest son of a Zeppeli (specifically, Caesar Zeppeli), influencing his entire personality and actions. He also chooses to betray DIO because the latter was slowly killing Holly Kujo through his curse, providing the Stardust Crusaders a lot of useful information about DIO and his minions while changing how said minions are fought compared to canon. This also means that Tomomi Shiobana, Giorno Giovanna's mother and a member of the Ten Glory Gods, ends up taking his place as Boingo's partner.
  • Related in the Adaptation: He's revealed to be a Zeppeli in this universe, being the youngest son of Caesar Zeppeli and his wife, Applejack. This makes him a younger brother of Gyro Zeppeli and a great-grandson of William Zeppeli.
  • Spanner in the Works: Despite Enya incapacitating him, he revives quickly enough to warn Polnareff of Enya's true intentions, allowing Polnareff to discover Enya's true identity much earlier than canon. Once he joins the JoJo team for good, his insight as one of DIO's former assassins allows him to expose the other Tarot Stand users' weaknesses and tactics easily.
  • Tarot Motifs: As in canon, his Stand is named Emperor, after the Emperor tarot card. Upright, the Emperor card represents masculine power, authority, control, success, and discipline, but when reversed, it represents tyranny, abuse of authority, recklessness, and helplessness. According to him, he had always been the "number two", and after becoming a gunslinger mercenary, he wound up becoming a servant of DIO, who used him to kill his enemies. But once he Grew a Spine, betrayed DIO, and took control of his own life, his Stand power and accuracy increased.
  • Thicker Than Water: This is the reason why he doesn't go after Joseph, Jonathan, and Jotaro despite being ordered by DIO to kill them. As he explains to Joseph, the Joestars are friends of the Zepplis, with Joseph being a friend of his father, Caesar Zeppeli, and the two families' relationships are so close that they're like one big extended family anyway.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Betraying DIO and taking full control of his own life improves Emperor's power, making his Stand far more accurate whenever he shoots. This proved handy as the heroes faced some of DIO's more powerful minions like the Ten Glory Gods, as well as DIO himself in the final battle.
  • Upbringing Makes the Hero: In this setting, he is the youngest son of Caesar Zeppeli through Applejack. While he became a gunslinger mercenary and joined DIO's forces as an assassin, his upbringing did play a part in his eventual Heel–Face Turn. Compare that to J. Geil, who was spoiled by his mother Enya and heavily relied on someone to help him fight, which led to his death at the hands of a vengeful Polnareff.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Zigzagged. As he tells Tomomi, normally he doesn't hurt women, and what pushed him to betray DIO is learning of Holly Kujo's condition. That said, he won't hesitate to fight a woman if his own life is on the line, as shown with Mariah, Enya, and Midler.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Zigzagged. Unlike his ex-partner J. Geil, a vicious Serial Rapist and Serial Killer who goes after women, he would never harm a woman in such a malicious manner. By his own admission, part of his aversion to harming women is fueled by pragmatism; the more women he treats kindly, the more likely they'll help him out if he gets into a sticky situation. Even before his Heel–Face Turn, he never went after Fluttershy despite her being an enemy of DIO, and what caused him to betray DIO for real was learning what the latter's curse was doing to Jotaro's mother, Holly. However, he won't hesitate to help fight a woman if his life depended on it, like Mariah, Enya, and Midler.
Tomomi Shiobana: Hey wait a minute, Hol Horse, I thought you don't hurt women.
Hol Horse: Normally I don't. But if a woman is trying to kill me, then I have no choice but to break my normal rules.
  • You're Cute When You're Angry: Inverted; upon seeing Mariah's Goblin Face, he comments how ugly she looks compared to other girls he's met when she's angry, pointing out that being angry usually makes a girl look cuter.
Hol Horse: Good grief. Most girls I've met get cuter when they're angry, but you're the first I've seen who stops being cute.

    Iggy

Iggy

Stand: The Fool

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ef67006b_08e0_4106_b47d_135c814acd19.png

A Boston Terrier that was granted some degree of sentience following the acquisition of his Stand and given the further ability to communicate with others thanks to Fluttershy.

His Stand, The Fool (named after the Fool tarot card), gives him control over sand, allowing him to morph and shape it into whatever he pleases.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: He gets along a lot better with the rest of the Crusaders. Justified in that he has a much better reason to get involved with human affairs, having learned about DIO killing Jonathan's canine friend Danny back in Phantom Blood.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: He was mostly antagonistic to Polnareff in canon, at least until the events that led to his death. Here the two come off as much better friends, often working together for a few fights while in Egypt.
  • And This Is for...: After landing on DIO and tearing out his hair, he shouts, "This one's for Danny, you canine killer!" before farting in the vampire's face.
  • Berserk Button: Anyone who would kill a dog. It's how Jonathan convinces him to join the team, by relaying the story of how DIO killed Danny.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Tends to invoke this around dog lovers, especially Fluttershy.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Invoked by him on DIO during the Final Battle with the latter. After Polnareff stabs DIO in the brain with Silver Chariot, Iggy leaps onto DIO's face, tears out his hair, then farts in his face as revenge for the Cruel and Unusual Death DIO inflicted on Danny back in Phantom Blood.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Both he and Avdol survive the confrontation with Vanilla Ice thanks to the presence of Jonathan Joestar and Hol Horse.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Thanks to Fluttershy's Stand, Iggy can more easily converse with the team.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: He gives a few words of wisdom to Boingo when the kid realizes he can't defeat the Stardust Crusaders.

The House of DIO

    DIO Brando

DIO Brando

Stand: The World

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dio_sc_2.png

The Arch-Enemy of the entire Joestar Clan who returns to claim his revenge.

His Stand, The World (named after the World tarot card), allows him to briefly stop time.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Instead of taking Jonathan's body after his death, DIO is given the body of George Joestar II, Jonathan's son. He finds the irony too delicious to ignore, especially since George II was a soldier and thus would have a very strong body.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: He lacks his canon counterpart's Bad Boss tendencies, coming across as pretty reasonable to all his minions.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Heavily downplayed. He no longer has an ability mimicking Hermit Purple. Instead he leaves long-distance viewing to his advisor DeKurliss.
  • Affably Evil: He can come off as genuinely charming and friendly when he's not on the attack. He complements Jonathan on still being good-looking for his age despite the fact that both of them are over a century old and DIO has the benefit of being The Ageless while Jonathan had to get by on Hamon.
  • Antagonist in Mourning: He mourns Jonathan's death after killing him. And prior to their fight, he is genuinely somber when he learns from Jonathan of both Twilight and Speedwagon's deaths decades before.
  • Benevolent Boss: Compared to canon DIO, who, while charismatic, was a Bad Boss who controlled his minions through fear and psychological manipulation and kills them the moment they become liabilities (i.e. revealing the secret of his Stand), this DIO comes off as fairly reasonable. Unlike canon, he doesn't kill Enya for having the potential to spill the secret about his Stand, and when Vanilla Ice decapitates himself to provide him blood, he accepts the offering but chides Vanilla Ice for interpreting his words literally and brings him back as a vampire.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: As in canon, DIO's father, Dario, was extremely abusive and was cruel enough to work his kindhearted mother to death. Due to having more empathy this time around, DIO isn't the Bad Boss his canon counterpart is; he genuinely believed that Giorno Giovanna, one of his sons, was destined for greatness. DeKurliss mentions to Pucci in Stone Ocean that he believes had DIO survived, he would have been a loving, supportive father to Giorno.
  • Call-Back: His hatred of dogs from Phantom Blood comes back in the worst way, courtesy of Iggy.
DIO: (upon seeing Iggy barking right in his face): Oh sweet Christ, why is the dog still alive!? I hate dogs! (Iggy starts tearing DIO's hair out) Damn it, he's even worse than most dogs! Does he really have to go for the hair!? (Iggy farts in his face) Oh good, it gets worse!
  • Doting Parent: To Giorno at least, for how little he actually knew him. When DIO first laid eyes on the infant Giorno, he immediately declared that this was the son destined for greatness. He was right, just not in the way he expected for his son.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: As much as he appreciates Vanilla Ice's unwavering loyalty, even he thinks Vanilla Ice decapitating himself to provide him blood is excessive.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite the changed setting, he still managed to kill Jonathan, but does so decades after the events of Phantom Blood.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: DIO's horrific act of killing Danny in Phantom Blood comes back to bite him decades later when Iggy, a Stand-using dog, successfully attacks and humiliates him with help from Polnareff and Hol Horse — first by landing on DIO and tearing at his hair, then by farting in his face.
  • The Lost Lenore: His death negatively impacts Midler, Mariah, Tomomi, and Enya and leaves them emotional wrecks. Of the four, Enya was affected the worst as she was rendered immortal by drinking DIO's blood.
  • Parental Favoritism: Of all the sons he fathered through his brides, DIO was the most affectionate to Giorno, whom he deemed to be destined for greatness since infancy. DeKurliss even speculates in Stone Ocean that had DIO survived his final battle with the Joestars, he would have become a model father for Giorno.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: He eventually succeeds in killing Jonathan. Unfortunately for him, Jonathan wanted to die before DIO did so that he wouldn't become the source of Holly's illness. All DIO did was allow Jonathan to reunite in the afterlife with the loved ones he had long outlived. DIO also realizes that, despite their long history of enmity, he actually isn't ready to see his adoptive brother go.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In this story, J. Geil is one of DIO's sons through Enya, making J. Geil himself one of Giorno Giovanna's half-siblings.
  • The Resenter: Downplayed and discussed. DIO admits to Tomomi and Telence D'Arby that he felt a bit envious when he learned all of the things Speedwagon accomplished following his first defeat, including gaining incredible wealth and leaving behind a powerful legacy — which was what DIO wanted to do before becoming a vampire in the 1800s. That said, he was more intrigued by how Speedwagon succeeded where he didn't, which is why he decided to read about him.
DIO: (on Speedwagon) I'll admit I was a bit envious when I learned of all he accomplished since I was defeated by Jonathan Joestar back in 1888. He'd come to obtain everything I wanted prior to throwing away my humanity. And even today, years after his death, that legacy persists.
  • Royal Harem: In addition to Enya, his First Love, DIO's regular women (that is, the ones he doesn't feed on) are Midler, Mariah, and Tomomi, each of whom has born him a son (Enya gave him two, in fact).
  • Villain Respect: He's actually impressed that Speedwagon was able to achieve everything he ever wanted without giving up his humanity in the process, despite starting out as a mere "street tough". He even admits to Tomomi and Telence D'Arby that he felt a bit envious of Speedwagon for it.

    DeKurliss

DeKurliss

Stand: Beautiful Stranger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wizard_16.jpg

A sinister fortune teller of unknown origin, and DIO's most trusted adviser.

His Stand, Beautiful Stranger (named after the song "Beware of the Beautiful Strange" by Pete Atkin), allows him to spy on people even from faraway places.

  • Audience Surrogate: He questions Enya on a few things fans of the canon anime might have had, such as why DIO doesn't just go out to attack the Joestar team immediately, or why he's so concerned about a group of people he could swat as easily as flies. Enya gives DeKurliss answers that ultimately satisfy him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: It's hinted that he holds disdain for anyone who would try to manipulate or disrupt the Holy Grail War.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: In Stone Ocean, he recognizes Ryusei and starts listing off his teammates from Steel Ball Run. Once he gets to Sadao, he starts to realize why Ryusei has a vested interest in DIO's diary.
  • Fortune Teller: He's this by profession, and he's quite skilled at it too.
  • Make It Look Like an Accident: He's killed by Ryusei, who inflicts a heart attack in him. Since he's so old by the time of Stone Ocean, everyone else thinks he just kicked the bucket naturally.
  • Musical Theme Naming: He's named after Da Kurlzz, the former drummer of Hollywood Undead.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Encouraged to do this by DIO when the Joestar team reaches his mansion so that his Heaven plan can be sent to Pucci.
  • Spanner in the Works: He made Doppio aware of the time dissonance he hadn't realized he had, thus laying the groundwork for screwing over Diavolo.
  • Surveillance as the Plot Demands: He makes use of his Stand to know where to send the Tarot Assassins in order to intercept the Joestar team.
  • Tempting Fate: Ironically. When he learns the Joestar team is soon to face Mannish Boy, he gloats that he'd like to see the Joestars overcome his power. And when they do...
    DeKurliss: I WAS JOKING!
  • Undying Loyalty: To DIO and anyone of his bloodline, to the point where he subtly helps Giorno's dream of becoming a Gang-Star by manipulating the connection between Diavolo and Doppio, despite knowing Giorno has no intention of carrying on his father's legacy.

    Kenny G.

Kenny G.

Stand: Tenor Sax

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0ff69c1f0374108439052e169103edb3.png

A mercenary permitted to live in DIO's manor, his job is to use his Stand to confuse anyone who manages to sneak inside.

His Stand, Tenor Sax (named after the tenor saxophone), allows him to create lifelike illusions.

  • Adaptation Expansion: He gets slightly more screentime than canon, enough to establish him as a character.
  • Logical Weakness: It's possible to navigate his Bizarchitecture if you have something to properly guide you, such as Iggy or DIO using their superior senses.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Judging from Telence's explanation of Tenor Sax, Kenny has no problems navigating his own Stand.
  • Smug Super: He looks down on Nukesaku for being completely outmatched by the Joestar team, only to get taken out in one shot by Iggy. Then again, considering the only reason he was killed was because Iggy's superior senses picked out his exact location, he might have been on to something.

    Vanilla Ice

Vanilla Ice

Stand: Cream

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/99394342_f37c_4e71_a346_d22dd58003cb.png

DIO's right-hand man and one of his most loyal servants.

His Stand, Cream (named after the British rock band Cream), is a demon that forms a ball of nothingness by eating itself, being able to cut through anything.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Zigzagged. He's no weaker than he was in canon, and the heroes had many close calls while fighting him, but here he fails to make a single kill thanks to Jonathan and Hol Horse being present. Jonathan's Hamon powers and knowledge on vampires also help in avoiding his attacks, whereas in canon, Polnareff, Avdol, and Iggy struggled against him, with the latter two dying as a result.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In canon, he dies to Polnareff in a brutal fashion, though how he dies depends on the adaptation (killed by sunlight in the anime/manga, having his head sliced in half in the OVA). Here, while Polnareff still exploits his weakness to sunlight, it's ultimately Jonathan who finishes him off as Hamon is fatal to vampires.
  • Fatal Flaw: His fanatical loyalty to DIO. As much as DIO appreciates it, it led him to trusting his plan for Heaven to Pucci instead.
  • Logical Weakness: Applies more to himself than his Stand, but becoming a vampire by DIO's hand means Jonathan can track him anywhere through Hamon, even while encased within his Stand.
    • His Stand is better at vaporizing solid matter. Liquid matter is trickier, and forget things like light or fire, which are more transitory.
  • Loving a Shadow: He's shocked to learn that Jonathan, DIO's Arch-Enemy, knows more about DIO than he does, having been DIO's adoptive brother prior to the latter's vampiric transformation.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: He takes the time to inform the Crusaders that yes, he does indeed have the same name as the famous rap artist.
  • Off with His Head!: Does this to himself in order to help DIO gain enough blood to finish bonding to the body of George Joestar II. DIO brings him back as a vampire using his blood, since he wasn't actually planning on taking Ice's blood.
  • Point of Divergence: Unlike his canon counterpart, he does not kill Iggy for tricking him here because Jonathan was on the team to provide backup after he destroys Iggy's sand construct of DIO. Similarly, he also fails to kill Avdol thanks to Jonathan's Hamon powers allowing him to track his life energy. Instead, he dies failing to land a single hit on the Stardust Crusaders, something he laments just before dying to Jonathan.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: He didn't realize that DIO using his blood to revive Ice turned him into a vampire. Here there's a reason for that, as Enya had ingested DIO's blood and stayed human, only becoming The Ageless. So Ice had no reason to think this wasn't something similar.

Tarot Assassins

    Gray Fly

Gray Fly

Stand: Tower of Gray

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7fccdd88_de5b_404b_a02c_77d2d26d9419.png

A dangerous assassin who creates "accidents" for money, he was hired by DIO through DeKurliss to intercept the Joestar team's flight.

His Stand, Tower of Gray (named after the Tower tarot card), is a small yet extremely fast and sharp-tongued beetle.

  • Crossover Relatives: In this setting, he is the biological uncle of Mari Illustrious Makinami, though Mari has disowned him as family due to his evil.
  • Exact Words: He boasts that the Tower card represents the interruption of a journey. However, "interruption" doesn't mean "end", so the Joestar team is able to continue in spite of Gray Fly crashing their flight.
  • Evil Uncle: He is Mari Illustrious Makinami's biological uncle in this setting, and like in canon, he's a sadistic old man who works as an assassin for DIO. Mari for her part has completely disowned him as family, using him as an example of what happens when a Stand user turns evil.
  • Informed Attribute: While Avdol does note that Gray Fly has caused numerous deaths with his accidents before, his attempts to kill the Joestar team ultimately only results in seven casualties, four passengers and the three pilots.
  • Karmic Death: He enjoys ripping out people's tongues, so fittingly, he dies when his own tongue is torn in two.
  • Large Ham: For how easy it is for him to blend in due to his normal-looking appearance, he does tend to slip. He wakes up complaining about noise several minutes into the fight, when such an old man should have woken up the moment Fluttershy started screaming. And he has an over-the-top reaction to his own blood message. This clues in Fluttershy that he might be more than he seems.

    Dragon

Dragon

Stand: Dark Blue Moon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/captain_tennille_jojo_354.jpg

An assassin who targets the Joestar team by taking the place of their ship's captain, Tennille.

His Stand, Dark Blue Moon (named after the Moon tarot card), allows him to control water currents.

  • Adaptation Name Change: His true name is never revealed in canon, but here, he is called Dragon as a reference to his canon Dub Name Change.
  • Appeal to Authority: The reason he pulled a Kill and Replace on Captain Tennille. He knew getting on the boat the Joestar team was on was the best way to target them, but just hiding on the boat or replacing one of the regular crew members would get him caught quickly. But if he replaced the captain, he could command respect and authority long enough to pick off the Joestars one by one.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: When he questions what a "Stand" is, Fluttershy points out that "stand" is actually a very common word, so claiming not to know what one is is very suspicious. He'd have been better off asking what they meant by "stand". This serves to give Jotaro a more concrete reason to be suspicious of him.
  • Jobber: He's beaten far more easily to showcase how versatile Fluttershy's Stand is, from creating special leaves that act as long-term breather masks, to controlling simpler animals like coral.
  • Mythology Gag: His name in this story is based off his Dub Name Change, based on "Captain" Daryl Dragon.
  • Named by the Adaptation: His real name was never given in canon, only going by "Fake Captain Tennille". Here he's known as Dragon.

    Forever

Forever

Stand: Strength

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/forever_jojo.png

A highly intelligent orangutan as well as an assassin. He's one of Enya's servants.

His Stand, Strength (named after the Strength tarot card), is a freighter ship that he has omniscient control over, right down to its surfaces, bolts and mechanisms.

  • Deconstruction: Of the Uplifted Animal. His human-like intelligence, without human morals, means Fluttershy decides not to treat him as an animal, but as a dangerous sociopath.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In this story he's killed by Fluttershy instead of Jotaro.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: He insists that Kakyoin call him by the proper pronoun of "he" rather than "it" since he is male. Kakyoin suitably apologizes for the insensitivity.
  • Mars Needs Women: Lusts after both Anne and Fluttershy, the later of whom does not take kindly to his advances.
  • Shown Their Work: Done in-universe. When Anne first identifies him as a monkey, Fluttershy corrects her that he's an ape, since he lacks a tail.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Fluttershy uses her Stand so he can be more directly questioned about the state of the ship. He notes that he's grateful for it, since it makes it easier to tell his enemies how screwed they are.
  • You No Take Candle: How he talks when Fluttershy first uses her Stand on him. He drops it and talks more normally after revealing his true nature.

    Devo the Cursed

Devo the Cursed

Stand: Ebony Devil

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/devo_the_cursed_785.jpg

A Native American assassin who claims to be a shaman. One of Enya's personal servants.

His Stand, Ebony Devil (named after the Devil tarot card), can possess and manipulate inanimate objects after Devo has been hurt or otherwise injured, growing stronger with grudges toward those responsible.

  • Adaptation Expansion: This time it's Jonathan who sends Devo screaming off the hotel balcony, making him a target of Devo's Stand alongside Polnareff.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Ebony Devil tries to flee after Jonathan and Polnareff free themselves from under hotel bed, only for Polnareff to slice off its legs with Silver Chariot. As Stand damage generally transfers to the Stand user, this means Devo got his legs sliced off as well.
  • Bowdlerize: The story leaves out his infamous declaration from canon about using the doll he possesses to piss all over the hotel room if he could.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Surprisingly averted. While Jonathan does help Polnareff in this version of the fight, Polnareff is still the one to deal the final blow exactly as he did in canon.
  • Explaining Your Powers to the Enemy: Deconstructed. As both Jonathan and Polnareff pointed out, knowing an enemy's limitations doesn't necessarily mean knowing all of their weaknesses, as even a Boring, but Practical power can be used in many other ways. It's also cynical to assume every Stand user keeps their powers a secret, as some (like the Stand-using racers from the Steel Ball Run arc) are not shy about revealing their Stands. Knowing an enemy's weaknesses also still doesn't protect one from death, as Ebony Devil would be rendered useless if Devo's injuries were fatal the first time around.
  • Genre Savvy: He makes sure to blind Jonathan with shampoo since, unlike Polnareff, he can see through Ra's eyes. This ensures Devo keeps an early advantage.
  • Groin Attack: After trapping Jonathon and Polnareff under the hotel bed, Ebony Devil vows to bite both men's balls off. Once Jonathan and Polnareff free themselves and have Ebony Devil dead to rights, Polnareff throws Ebony Devil's earlier words back at its face before killing the Stand — and therefore killing Devo — by slicing it up everywhere but its balls.
Polnareff: Now come on. Didn't you say something about wanting to bite our balls off!?
(Ebony Devil leaps at Polnareff and Jonathan in a rage)
Polnareff: I'll slice up everything but your balls!
  • Synchronization: This is part of Ebony Devil's power. Once Devo is hurt or injured, the injuries transfer to Ebony Devil, allowing it to grow in power as the grudges fueling it becomes stronger. However, as Jonathan and Polnareff note, this is a double-edged sword; Ebony Devil obviously won't activate if Devo is killed, and the fight wouldn't have started to begin with if Jonathan and Polnareff killed Devo during their first encounter. Polnareff proceeds to exploit this fact by killing Devo like he did in canon — by slicing up Ebony Devil, and therefore its user, to bits.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: While Devo's decision to blind Jonathan to prevent him from seeing through his Stand was a good idea, he was only thinking in terms of Jonathan being just a Stand user. He never accounted for the fact that Jonathan's also a Hamon user, and Hamon can easily be used to track Stands since they're filled with life energy.

    Rubber Soul

Rubber Soul

Stand: Yellow Temperance

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jojo_rubber_soul_6481.jpg

As assassin serving under Enya who tries to attack Jotaro and Fluttershy while disguised as Kakyoin.

His Stand, Yellow Temperance (named after the Temperance tarot card), is a blob-like substance that can mimic anything he chooses, down to its consistency.

  • Irony: As bad a job as he did impersonating Kakyoin, he did get one trait right. That being Kakyoin's habit of licking around cherries with his tongue. Lampshaded by Fluttershy, who's completely shocked Rubber Soul got it right by accident.
  • Logical Weakness: If you can somehow get past his Stand's perfect offense and defense, you'll find that Rubber Soul himself is a Glass Cannon, easy to completely manhandle in spite of his muscular figure.
  • Mr. Exposition: The first time Jotaro and Fluttershy get him dead to rights, he spills the beans about a couple of the other Tarot Assassins (though nothing about their powers since he doesn't actually know them). He also confirms the existence of J. Geil, the man who killed Polnareff's sister.
  • Pet the Dog: Fluttershy threatens to fill him full of poison barbs if he even thinks of eating a young boy's dog. Rubber Soul acquiesces, though he doesn't seem intimidated in the slightest.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Once it's clear that he's lost and Jotaro and Fluttershy are about to deliver him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, he asks that they at least set him up in a decent hospital. Surprisingly, the couple decides to accept his terms.

    J. Geil

J. Geil

Stand: Hanged Man

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/j__geil_anime_6233.jpg

Hol Horse's former partner, J. Geil is a villainous Stand user assigned by DIO to assassinate Jotaro and his group. He is also the one who murdered Sherry Polnareff, earning the undying hatred of her older brother, Jean-Pierre Polnareff.

His Stand, Hanged Man (named after the Hanged tarot card), can travel between reflections and manifest itself onto a victim to attack.

  • Adaptation Expansion: It's revealed in this story that the reason he didn't finish off Antoinette is because she took advantage of the rain and her Stand to flee in the form of water, preventing J. Geil from even getting the chance to try anything further with her.
  • Crossover Relatives: Downplayed. While they're all part of the same series, J. Geil is the oldest son of DIO Brando, owing to his mother Enya being DIO's first and favorite bride. His half-brothers include Giorno Giovanna from Golden Wind, and Ungalo, Rikiel, and Donatello Versus from Stone Ocean.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Not only does Polnareff's story of him show how vile he is due to him raping and killing Sherry, but how dangerous his Stand can be when he managed to severely injure a powerful Stand user like Antoinette (who was with Sherry at the time).
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He's confident that hiding in the reflection of a human eye will cause the heroes to simply tear the eye out. Polnareff chastises him for that, then reveals that forcing the eyelid to close is sufficient to destroy the eye's reflection. Subverted in that J. Geil quickly learns his lesson and tries a different tactic the second time he hides his Stand in someone's eye.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After raping and killing young women for likely years, and even dealing Antoinette a near-fatal blow, J. Geil finally gets his comeuppance when Polnareff severely damages his Stand, followed by turning him into a pincushion before leaving the rest of his fate up to the forces of Hell.
  • Pet the Dog: It's implied that he'd have left Fluttershy alone out of respect to his partner Hol Horse, who dislikes the idea of harming women that aren't trying to kill him.
  • Pure Is Not Good: DeKurliss actually agrees with Enya's insistence that her son is pure-hearted. But he also notes that being pure-hearted isn't necessarily a good thing.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In this story, he is one of DIO's sons through Enya, making him one of Giorno Giovanna's half-siblings.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He's a completely vile man who is both a Serial Killer and a Serial Rapist, his main targets being vulnerable young women like Sherry Polnareff. Giorno Giovanna is one of his half-siblings in this setting, but as Golden Wind showed, Giorno couldn't be any more different from him.
  • Spoiled Brat: Enya coddled him far too much while he was growing up, resulting in a vile man who believed he could get away with doing anything.
  • Villainous Lineage: In this setting, while his mother is still Enya like in canon, his father is Dio Brando/DIO, the personal Arch-Enemy of the Joestar Family.

    Nena

Nena

Stand: Empress

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jojo_nena_real_3010.jpg

Enya's personal handmaiden as well as one of her hired assassins.

Her Stand, Empress (named after the Empress tarot card), is a living, parasitic growth that can control its victims' every move.

  • Big Eater: Empress consumes each of the plants Fluttershy tries growing in hopes of getting her removed. Oops...
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Like with Devo, averted. While Fluttershy's presence does make the fight go a little differently, it's still Joseph who kills her by first using a barrel full of coal tar to immobilize her, then using Hermit Purple's vines to rip her to pieces.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: DeKurliss believes the reason why she took the form of a young woman was so that she would be presentable to Enya.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Not her, but the doctor she was planning to kill. He winds up put to sleep thanks to Fluttershy using jasmine essence (after she knocks the scalpel out of his hand using a seed shot), meaning Empress doesn't get the chance to kill him and turn the Joestar team into fugitives within India's borders.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Not only does she misjudge Joseph's skills like in canon, she doesn't anticipate that Fluttershy can prevent her schemes to leave the group Persona Non Grata in India.

    ZZ

ZZ

Stand: Wheel of Fortune

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jojo_zz_9234.jpg

The last of Enya's personal assassins, who tries ambushing the Joestar team on the way to Pakistan.

His Stand, Wheel of Fortune (named after the Fortune tarot card), appears as a car that contains more underneath the hood than the average automobile.

  • Car Fu: In addition to showcasing all the same abilities as canon, Wheel of Fortune shows a new trick — tunneling through solid stone.
  • Glass Cannon: Once removed from his Stand, he's completely helpless due to his scrawny body (with comically disproportionate muscular arms).
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Just when he thinks he's changed the story by killing Jotaro, he winds up hearing this...
Jotaro Kujo: Haven't you read the original manga? You couldn't kill me then, and you sure as hell can't kill me now. Besides, who's gonna replace me as the main character, you?
  • Rage Against the Author: In a nice Shout-Out to the Fourth-Wall Break from canon, he taunts mtnetsurfer himself by claiming he managed to change the story. Of course, Jotaro proves him wrong almost immediately.

    Steely Dan

Steely Dan

Stand: Lovers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/steely_dan_jojo_3468.jpg

One of the assassins hired by DIO and DeKurliss, although he's sent after the Joestar team for a different reason.

His Stand, Lovers (named after the Lovers tarot card), can enter a person's body and stimulate their pain receptors, magnifying normal sensations tenfold.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: He's sent out to save Enya in this story, rather than kill her, since DIO is intent on keeping her as a bride.
  • Con Artist: Like in canon, he disguised himself as a doner kebab merchant so he could scam an unaware Joseph Joestar out of his money. However, Hol Horse was there to teach Joseph how to properly haggle, allowing Joseph to keep his money and buy the Stardust Crusaders some tasty kebabs at a much lower price.
  • Foreshadowing: His haggling con with Joseph goes awry thanks to Hol Horse's help. Sure enough, Hol Horse proves instrumental in keeping Dan from doing anything to himself that could inconvenience Joseph, letting him focus on tracking Lovers so that Kakyoin and Polnareff can deal with it.
  • Human Shield: Anyone affected by Lovers is essentially turned into this. Because they're connected to Steely Dan, no one can harm him without affecting the victim, as Lovers forces the victim to feel magnified versions of whatever Steely Dan goes through. This would have allowed Steely Dan to bully the Stardust Crusaders while Joseph was under his thrall, but fortunately the Stardust Crusaders are able to save Joseph by coming up with ways to restrain Steely Dan and force Lovers out of its host as painlessly as possible.
  • I'm Melting!: His attempt to possess Fluttershy with his Stand backfires when she catches Lovers using a Venus flytrap, causing Dan to get burned by the carnivorous plant's digestive juices.
  • Logical Weakness: Lovers is a small, undetectable Stand that almost no one can detect or deal with, especially once it's inside someone. This allows Steely Dan to not only control his Stand at a greater distance, but also exploit his link to his victim(s) with everyone else none the wiser. Fluttershy and Hol Horse decide to take the easy path by restraining Steely Dan and keeping him from harming himself to torment Joseph, giving Kakyoin and Polnareff enough time to take out Lovers (as well as the flesh bud Steely Dan infected Joseph with).
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Jotaro hands him one as per canon, which the author did his best to do justice to by devoting an entire paragraph to it.
  • Point of Divergence: His canon fight with the Stardust Crusaders is derailed, mostly thanks to Hol Horse.
    • His attempt to scam Joseph Joestar out of his money is foiled because Hol Horse was there to help teach Joseph how to properly haggle, allowing Joseph to get the kebabs he wanted at a reduced price.
    • While he was still able to get Lovers inside Joseph, he wasn't able to fully exploit this because Fluttershy trapped him in a dome of leaves that couldn't be easily torn apart. Any attempts to try and inflict Self-Harm are interrupted by Hol Horse, who simply uses the loud gunshots of Emperor to distract him from his goal. This saved Joseph from a lot of pain, and Jotaro from a lot of humiliation.
  • Self-Harm: After getting imprisoned in a leaf dome by Fluttershy, he tries an alternative way to torment Joseph by punching himself. Unfortunately for him, Hol Horse decides to foil that plan by using the loud gunshots produced by Emperor to startle him from doing anything.
  • Underestimating Badassery: He accepts that the bulk of the group isn't going to let him hurt himself, thinking Joseph will die from the spore regardless. It proves his undoing when Kakyoin searches all the clones to find the real one. Dan also underestimates how fast Fluttershy is with her Stand. Hol Horse says it best.
Hol Horse: Devo the Cursed once said those of us hired by DIO knew all the weaknesses of the Joestar group. But it looks like what we needed to understand was their strengths.
  • Would Hit a Girl:
    • Once Lovers was out of Joseph's brain, Steely Dan pretends to surrender while having his Stand go after Fluttershy, thinking he could easily take her hostage and force Jotaro to comply to his whims. It fails as Fluttershy was able to catch Lovers with a venus flytrap she created, burning Steely Dan with digestive acids.
    • Shortly after that, Steely Dan tries to send Lovers over to a young girl, hoping to keep the Stardust Crusaders from attacking him without risking the girl's life as well. Lovers barely enters the girl's ear when it is captured by Hierophant Green, and Jotaro, having lost all his patience, pummels Steely Dan with Star Platnim for a full paragraph before sending the man flying into a building.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He wouldn't hesitate to hold a young girl hostage by having Lovers enter her through her ear, if it'll give him an advantage over the Stardust Crusaders. Unfortunately for him, Kakyoin has Hierophant Green grab Lovers, saving the girl, while Jotaro becomes furious enough to absolutely pummel him and send him flying into a nearby building.

    Arabia Fats

Arabia Fats

Stand: Sun

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arabia_fats_4374.jpg

One of DeKurliss' agents, who tracks the Joestars through the desert while tormenting them with his Stand.

His Stand, Sun (named after the Sun tarot card), can create an exact replica of the sun that radiates intense heat.

  • Cranial Eruption: When Jotaro and Star Platinum sock him in the head with a rock right through his mirror, he's seen afterward sporting a prominent lump on his head.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He set himself up quite nicely to hunt down the Joestar team for weeks if necessary, making use of a motorized buggy with lots of water and a tarp with air conditioning. Too bad his disguise mirror proved a Fatal Flaw in his planning.
  • Impostor Forgot One Detail: An environmental version. He was tracking the Joestars through Abu Dhabi and through most of the desert flawlessly, but he ultimately screwed up when his mirror caused a certain rock to have a shadow on the wrong side relative to the light his Stand was giving off.
  • Living Prop: We don't learn anything more about him in this story other than he works for DeKurliss, though at least the team learns his name thanks to Hol Horse.

    Mannish Boy

Mannish Boy

Stand: Death 13

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9068159a_5af2_4e9c_bcb9_3deaa0c14869.png

An intelligent baby working for DeKurliss and DIO set up to take out the Joestars while they sleep.

His Stand, Death 13 (named after the Death tarot card), can invade and control people's dreams.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Rather than some random woman, it's Enya who covertly delivers Mannish Boy to the Joestars.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Thanks to Hol Horse, Mannish Boy winds up screwed over several ways from Sunday, unable to do anything permanent other than erase Joseph's memory of the fight.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He had no idea that Hol Horse always slept with his Stand Emperor active due to living a mercenary life, meaning Hol Horse was fully capable of defending himself inside Death 13's dream world and relaying more concrete information to the rest of the team via his bowie knife.
  • Explaining Your Powers to the Enemy: An unintentional example. He had used his Stand to inform DeKurliss of his powers so DIO would know what he was working with, and Hol Horse was there to wake DeKurliss up if Mannish Boy tried anything funny. It wasn't their fault that Hol Horse would later pull a Heel–Face Turn, giving him a chance to relay all that information to the Joestar team.
  • Glass Cannon: This story really highlights just how weak of a Stand Death 13 really is. Other than Joseph (who can't really hide his Stand while it's active) the Joestar team completely blindsides him by hiding their Stands underground while he was getting coddled by Joseph.

    Cameo

Cameo

Stand: Judgement

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cameo_jojo_5730.jpg

One of the Tarot Assassins hired by DIO. He's sent by DeKurliss to an island the Joestar team is visiting to investigate their presence there.

His Stand, Judgement (named after the Judgement tarot card), is a robot-like being that can grant wishes by creating constructs out of clay, although these wishes do come with at least one troubling (and often fatal) flaw.

  • Cruel Mercy: Technically Avdol did show some mercy to Cameo when he asked that he leave the man alive. But given everything else he was put through, it's likely Avdol felt he had been thoroughly punished for what he put Polnareff through.
  • Didn't Think This Through: He thinks that Hol Horse being unintenionally wrong in his report that Avdol was dead would be a blessing in disguise, since he could get an extra payday for correcting that error. So he tries to use his power on Avdol, only to be informed that Avdol had been secretly listening in the entire time, and thus knows Judgement's game.
  • Fight Unscene: Since much of his introduction remains the same as canon, the scene is shown from Avdol's perspective instead of Polnareff's. And he only showed up partway through Polnareff's struggle.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Avdol does take Judgement up on his offer for wishes... Only for said wishes to involve completely maiming Judgement.

    Midler

Midler

Stand: High Priestess

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/37880792_fa67_4e5e_b459_fa085102eb0a.png

The last of the Tarot Assassins and also one of DIO's brides, giving birth to his son Ungalo.

Her Stand, High Priestess (named after the Priestess tarot card), is a living mask that can transform itself into various metals and minerals.

  • Death by Adaptation: While she was horribly maimed both in canon and this story after her encounter with the Joestars, she wasn't actually killed. That came years later during Stone Ocean, when Tomomi tracks her down and kills her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: It wasn't the smartest idea to flirt with Jotaro when his girlfriend was right there next him. That got her cheeks and tongue maimed by Fluttershy in addition to her teeth getting shattered by Jotaro like in canon. Giorno also reveals in Stone Ocean that she was already one of DIO's brides when she tried making a move on Jotaro, which wouldn't have ended well considering that DIO is the Arch-Enemy of the Joestars.
  • Logical Weakness: As Tomomi points out, minerals are vulnerable to constant wind due to erosion and rust.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Fluttershy has some choice words when Giorno reveals Midler was one of DIO's brides and yet still decided to try flirting with Jotaro.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She becomes Ungalo's mother in this universe.
  • Torso with a View: How Tomomi kills her, plowing her fist into Midler's stomach before blasting through it with Nut's power.
  • The Un-Favourite: Downplayed, but Tomomi claims Midler was DIO's least favorite bride.

Ten Glory Gods

    General
  • Adaptational Wimp: Unlike the Egypt Nine Glory Gods, the Ten Glory Gods fared less better against Jotaro's group because the latter had extra party members who either had powers specifically designed to combat certain threats, were strong enough to provide backup in a fight, had vital information on the enemies' weaknesses, or all of the above.
  • Elite Mooks: Unlike the rest of DIO's hired mercenaries, the Ten Glory Gods contain some of the strongest Stand users the heroes had ever faced, and a few nearly come close to killing them.
  • Praetorian Guard: Like their canon counterparts, the Egypt Nine Glory Gods, the Ten Glory Gods consist of powerful Stand users who not only serve as DIO's personal bodyguards, but also his secret-keepers regarding the true nature of his Stand, The World.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: All of the Ten Glory Gods have Stands that are named after the Egyptian pantheon, like Anubis, Thoth, Set, and Bast.

    N'Doul

N'Doul

Stand: Geb

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a19012aee762f345972a7425951490f5.png

A blind Stand user, N'Doul is the first of the Ten Glory Gods, intercepting the Joestars just as they enter Egypt.

His Stand, Geb (named after the Egyptian god Geb), lets him control water.

  • Lampshade Hanging: He admits to Jotaro that it's odd for a Stand made of water to be named after a god of earth.
  • Logical Weakness: N'Doul finds out the hard way that a Stand made of water is vulnerable to the plant roots Fluttershy can create.
  • Mr. Exposition: While he kills himself to prevent the team from learning the secret of DIO's Stand, he does live long enough afterward to explain to Jotaro about the other members of the Ten Glory Gods.
  • Synchronization: Unlike in canon where he only suffered a small burn prior to Jotaro confronting him, here he suffers significant blood loss after Fluttershy uses her Stand to suck up Geb using plant roots.

    Oingo

Oingo

Stand: Khnum

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/af8339c71eddac4976fb215479986179.PNG

The older of the Oingo Boingo brothers, a pair of inseparable brothers tasked with assassinating the Joestar team.

His Stand, Khnum (named after the Egyptian god Khnum), lets him disguise himself as anyone he chooses by altering his face, size, and even smell.

  • Big Brother Instinct: He's always protective of Boingo since he's so introverted. He also shows concern about Boingo's mental health when he starts giggling like a lunatic.
  • The Bus Came Back: He and Boingo show up during Jojolion to help Kakyoin deal with the Steering Committee.
  • Fatal Flaw: According to Tomomi, he lived his life following his brother's prophecies, believing doing so would result in their good fortune. Unfortunately, a quirk of fate causes it to always favor the Joestar Clan and their allies, resulting in Oingo nearly dying to his own bomb.
  • Framing the Guilty Party: Oingo uses his Stand when setting up explosives at Hope's Peak Academy to make it look like the Steering Committee was responsible. They were trying to take back the school, just not like that.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He and his younger brother eventually break away from DIO's forces, joining with the Joestar clan instead since they seem to always have fate on their side.
  • Master of Disguise: Not only can his Stand change his appearance to anything human, but unlike Rubber Soul, he can easily mimic anyone he's disguising himself as, even someone as eccentric as Nagito Komaeda.
  • Prophecy Twist: Like canon, one of these is his undoing, but he also makes use of one to save an innocent from his fate. When he learns that Nagito is going to be caught holding a bag of dangerous chemicals and explosives, Oingo simply disguises himself as Nagito and takes the bag, then once he's caught, he pretends he was someone else (the prophecy said nothing about whether or not he would do this, so doing so wouldn't go against fate) so that Nagito is cleared of suspicion.
  • Shapeshifter Baggage: Despite being a big guy, he's able to disguise himself as someone half his size thanks to his Stand.
  • So Proud of You: When he sees Boingo showing determination in trying to beat the Joestars, he cries Tears of Joy at his brother growing up.

    Boingo

Boingo

Stand: Thoth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8eef50a95f89f0be1fc2dd7b1b1597f9.PNG

The younger of the Oingo Boingo brothers, two inseparable brothers who are part of the Ten Glory Gods.

His Stand, Thoth (named after the Egyptian god Thoth), manifests as a comic book that can predict the future with 100% accuracy.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: He teams up with Tomomi instead of Hol Horse, since the latter is actually part of the Joestar team now.
  • Art Shift: Boingo's Stand is an in-universe example, with Thoth's illustrations growing more mature as he grows up.
  • The Bus Came Back: He shows up much older in Jojolion, now a teacher at Hope's Peak Academy under Kakyoin and Jin Kirigiri.
  • Deconstruction: Him pulling off his signature laugh comes off as Laughing Mad and causes Oingo to grow concerned for his brother's mental health.
  • Heel Realization: After failing to help Tomomi defeat the Stardust Crusaders, he comes to the realization that the Joestars are favored by fate and that it is foolish for him to keep pursuing revenge, so he vows to use Thoth to help people instead. Iggy praises him for this.
Boingo: (after Tomomi is knocked out by her own air bullets) Luckily my Stand's nature means I'm in no danger if it gets damaged. But still, the Joestars must be powerful if fate just seems to favor them under all conditions. It's no wonder Tomomi and my brother were defeated. Lord DIO is probably the only one who even stands a chance against them. As for me, I think it's foolish to keep pursuing revenge. From now on, I'll try to use my powers to help people find a brighter future. And maybe someday, I'll find a way to help more Stand users act to protect people.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He and his brother Oingo eventually turn to the side of good after DIO's demise.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Thanks to some words of wisdom from Iggy, Oingo starts to open up more. It leads to Thoth being able to see just a little farther into the future.

    Chaka

Chaka

Stand: Anubis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chaka_jojo_6.png

A young farmhand who finds himself as part of the Ten Glory Gods when he discovers a mystic sword. As it turns out, however, he's not the real threat to the Joestar team...

His "Stand", Anubis (named after the Egyptian god Anubis), is an evil Stand inhabiting an ancient Egyptian sword that possesses anyone who wields it. The blade he inhabits can phase through solid objects, and he can remember any techniques that defeated him to insure he won't be defeated by the same opponent twice.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: The sword Anubis is bound to is revealed to have been forged from the Cape York meteorite, which is how he continued to exist long after his original owner, Caravan Serai, passed on.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Happens to both Anubis and his second on-screen user, Khan. They don't get the chance to really fight since Fluttershy uses her plants to handle Anubis afterward.
  • Audience Surrogate: Chaka acts like any one of us might act if they suddenly came into possession of a Stand, and the crazy world they had just become part of.
  • Caught Monologuing: As Anubis goes into an internal rant about how he'll find a new, better user and thinks back on his origin and his original owner, he realizes that in all that time he didn't think about how he'd do so... Just as Fluttershy prepares to toss him into the Nile.
  • Demonic Possession: Anubis is the real threat to the Joestars, being able to possess whoever draws his blade.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Once Chaka understands what Anubis can offer him, he no longer cares who he kills.
  • Logical Weakness: Anubis can only possess a living thing with a certain level of consciousness. It's implied that he can possess animals, but he can't possess plants, nor can he possess anything through the plants.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: While Anubis ultimately perishes when the bulk of his sword is destroyed, enough remains of the blade that villainous forces can continue to use it to create new Stand users once the Speedwagon Foundation takes custody of all the Stand arrows.

    Mariah

Mariah

Stand: Bast

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ae13b3f9_a5e0_40c1_8d82_a805dfb3479d.png

One of the Ten Glory Gods and also one of DIO's brides, being the mother of Rikiel.

Her Stand, Bast (named after the Egyptian goddess Bast), takes the form of an electrical outlet. Whoever touches it ends up being magnetized, making them attract various metals against their will.

  • Chunky Salsa Rule: Tomomi kills her by blowing her lungs out of her chest and through her new metal ribcage. The result is gruesome, to say the least.
  • Crossover Couple: In this setting, she is one of four concubines of DIO, who originated in Phantom Blood, though it's downplayed as they're both part of the same franchise.
  • Crossover Relatives: Downplayed. She is the biological mother of Rikiel through DIO, but while they come from different story arcs, they're still part of the same franchise.
  • Death by Adaptation: The worst she got during her fight with Joseph, Avdol, Hol Horse, and Jonathan was several broken bones and a few ruptured organs, but she ultimately lives. What she didn't survive was Tomomi tracking her down shortly after the death of her son.
  • Death by Irony: Invoked by Tomomi, who targets Mariah's lungs just because she's a chain smoker.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: She hates having to work with Alessi in killing the heroes, and thinks he's "disgusting". Given Alessi is an utterly repulsive Child Hater, she has every right to loathe him.
  • Failed a Spot Check: She unthinkingly walks in between Avdol and Joseph, forgetting to question why they weren't being drawn to each other (earlier Jonathan was able to keep them separate due to a Hamon charge, but Mariah clearly knew it had already worn off).
  • Goblin Face: Lampshaded by Hol Horse, who notes that she's the only woman he knows who looks uglier when she's angry.
  • Logical Weakness: While Bastet's magnetic abilities are powerful, it cannot attract non-magnetic metals such as lead, which Emperor's bullets are made of. It also doesn't protect her from magnetic attraction, which leads to her humiliating defeat when she is crushed by her magnetized assassination targets and all the metals they've attracted along the way.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: As in canon, her Stand, Bastet, appears as an electrical outlet that magnetizes anyone who touches it, making them attract various metals against their will. The magnetism accumulates over time until her victims are crushed to death by all the metals they've attracted to themselves.
  • Paper Cutting: This happens to her courtesy of Hol Horse; she laughs when Hol Horse aims Emperor at her, only for her gloating to be abruptly cut short when he fires and successfully grazes her cheek with the first shot.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In this setting, she is part of DIO's Royal Harem, making her the biological mother of Rikiel from Stone Ocean through him.
  • Smug Super: She is so confident in Bastet's Magnetism Manipulation that she ignores its weaknesses, including its inability to attract non-magnetic metals like lead, which gets her face scratched by a single bullet from Emperor. Her overconfidence also made her blind to her own surroundings, and ultimately led to her defeat when the magnetized Joseph and Avdol trick her into leaving herself open to an incapacitating pincer attack from them and all the metals they've attracted. Even Joseph finds it hard to believe that she is one of DIO's elite forces due to this flaw.
  • Squashed Flat: Like what happened in canon, this is how she is defeated. Despite both being magnetized by Bastet, Joseph and Avdol trick her into having them on two sides of her at an intersection, using their respective opposite magnetic polarities to attract themselves — and the huge piles of metal, including two cars, that they're respectively trapped under — to each other, crushing her in a pincer attack. While she survives, all her bones are broken, and it's later revealed in Stone Ocean that she had to replace her broken ribcage with a metal one.
  • Underestimating Badassery: She always knew Hol Horse to be a rather poor shot when he was still working for DIO, so she's taken completely off-guard when Hol Horse not only manages to graze her cheek with a bullet, but also cutting off the power cables she was planning to electrocute Joseph and Avdol with by firing at them with a single shot.
Mariah: You were never that accurate before. How did you get so good?
Hol Horse: (shrugging) Call it a boost in confidence. The Emperor tarot suggests taking control of your own life, but I'd always lived life being the number two. Once I started thinking and acting for myself, my Stand got more accurate as a result. Guess I just needed to be true to the tarot card I represent. By the way, as you may have guessed, Jonathan's on the roof behind you.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After Hol Horse grazes her cheek with a bullet from Emperor and lectures her on how his Stand works, she becomes enraged and vows to kill him for the insult, her face becoming comically hideous in the process.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: She thinks she can deal with Hol Horse's metal bullets, as Bastet can attract and magnetize metals. While this would normally be the case, since bullets contain an iron core for stability and heat resistance, Hol Horse doesn't have to worry about that due to his gun being a Stand. Thus, his bullets are pure lead, which is a metal that can't be magnetized.

    Alessi

Alessi

Stand: Sethan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alessi.png

A member of the Ten Glory Gods and partnered with Mariah, much to her chagrin.

His Stand, Sethan (named after the Egyptian god Sethan), can rapidly de-age anyone immersed in its shadow in mere seconds.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Downplayed, but Polnareff is able to keep Alessi from turning Malèna into a fetus in this story. He does drop both her and Polnareff to three years old, however.
  • Child Hater: He exclusively kills children because he thinks they're weaker than him.
  • "Here's Johnny!" Homage: A more straight example than canon too.
Alessi: As Jack Nicholson once said... Here's Johnny!
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: He thinks he has Fluttershy cornered when she gets affected by his Stand, but then she yells "Pervert!" to protect herself. The nearby crowd overhears this and makes it impossible for Alessi to follow through, forcing him to keep his focus on Polnareff.
  • Oh, Crap!: He has this reaction when he sees Jotaro, having been brought over by Fluttershy. Since she grew up with Jotaro, being de-aged wouldn't have removed her memories of him, meaning Jotaro likely knows all about Alessi's Stand. If not for Polnareff's untimely distraction, Alessi might have been defeated a few minutes earlier than canon.
  • You've Gotta Be Kidding Me!: He manages to reduce Jotaro to a seven-year-old, but is shocked to learn he only regressed Jotaro by ten years.
Alessi: He's seventeen!? At that size!?

    Daniel J. D'Arby

Daniel J. D'Arby

Stand: Osiris

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9daa72c5_0645_4837_af52_dde0e3c806f6.png

A skilled gambler and member of DIO's Ten Glory Gods. The older of two brothers.

His Stand, Osiris (named after the Egyptian god Osiris), can steal people's souls if they admit defeat in their hearts.

  • Adaptation Expansion: With more people in the Joestar group, Jotaro is able to bet Fluttershy, Jonathan, and Hol Horse's souls in order to get information about the Stands of the other Ten Glory Gods out of Daniel. This freaks out Daniel, but he is able to recover.
  • The Bus Came Back: He shows up again in Phantom Thief Joker Part 1 when Joker needs a specialist to help him find a piece of the Joestar Collection.
  • Call-Back: When gambling against Joker for the information about his latest target, Daniel does the same trick with the cat and jerky that he did against Polnareff. However, Joker plays it smarter, not revealing his bet until after the cat had already made its choice, writing it down so there could be no claim of cheating.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He refuses to gamble with Iggy's soul, as he's too much of an animal lover. He also finds his younger brother's hobby of sealing souls into dolls with their consciousness still intact incredibly disturbing.
  • Foil: Not only are he and his younger brother Telence foils to each other, but also to the Oingo Boingo brothers. Daniel is honestly scared of his younger brother, mostly due to his depravity, whereas Oingo tries his best to take care of Boingo.
  • Graceful Loser: When he loses a bet to Joker, he coughs up the info the Phantom Thief was looking for no strings attached. Justified in that, unlike Jotaro looking for info against DIO, this was a relatively low stakes gamble.
  • Loophole Abuse: As mentioned by Shining in Cruel Angel's Thesis, Osiris can also work if the victim willingly surrenders. This is what allows Daniel to remove Adam's soul from Tabris' body, allowing the First Angel to begin regenerating.
  • Not Cheating Unless You Get Caught: His rule for life. He's not bothered when both Jotaro and Phantom Thief Joker catch him cheating, as that just means they're that skilled at gambling.

    Tomomi Shiobana

Tomomi Shiobana

Stand: Nut

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giornos_mother_152864.jpg

One of DIO's brides and a member of the Ten Glory Gods who would later go on to birth his son, Giorno Giovanna.

Her Stand, Nut (named after the Egyptian goddess Nut), lets her manipulate wind currents.

  • Abusive Parents: Unlike DIO's other three brides, who coddled and spoiled their own sons, Tomomi never wanted to have a child and was a completely neglectful mother to Giorno growing up. However, she is genuinely proud of Giorno for rising above his harsh childhood to become a successful young man, and she killed her fellow brides for constantly treating him as inferior to their own sons.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak reveals that she was one of the nameless women rescued from DIO's clutches by Hol Horse, leading to Giorno Giovanna's birth. Here, while she still gave birth to Giorno, she is one of DIO's willing concubines in this setting.
  • Boring, but Practical: Her Stand controls wind currents to create blades or bullets. A simple Stand with incredible flexibility.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She shows concern that her Stand, strong as it is, wouldn't be much of a threat for the Joestar team as a whole since they also possess Boring, but Practical Stand powers and outnumber her. So she turns to Boingo for help via his power of prophecy. She also makes sure to put absolute trust in him in an effort to win, only to fall to the same problems that got Oingo sent to the hospital.
  • Didn't See That Coming: She's shocked that Hol Horse joins the fight against her, having heard that he hates hurting women. He clarifies that he won't hesitate to fight a woman that's trying to kill him.
  • Four Is Death: She is one of four women DIO takes as his brides for his Royal Harem. By Stone Ocean, she outlives not only DIO when he is killed by Jotaro, but also her fellow brides, who all die at her hand for the crime of treating her son Giorno as inferior to their own sons.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • She still marries the man who would become Giorno's stepfather in Golden Wind, though it happened here as a way for her to cope with DIO's death.
    • She also still got involved with DIO, but she is one of DIO's concubines in this setting, whereas in Crazy Diamond's Demonic Heartbreak, she was one of DIO's would-be victims whom Hol Horse rescued from captivity.
  • Irony: Of the four brides DIO took, she was the only one who didn't want to have kids and was neglectful of her son Giorno. Giorno ended up becoming a hero, a loving family man, and the leader of one of the biggest mafia organizations in Italy. Meanwhile, the sons of the three other brides were heavily coddled and spoiled, stunting their growths and turning them into terrible people — with J. Geil being the most notable in terms of depravity.
  • Mama Bear: While she was a neglectful mother to Giorno, she still went and killed Mariah, Midler, and Enya because she was angry at how they treated Giorno as an inferior offspring of DIO despite him being the most successful of DIO's children.
  • The Mourning After: Like her fellow brides, she didn't take DIO's death very well. By Golden Wind, she married Giorno Giovanna's stepfather as a way to cope with her grief and fill the void DIO left behind.
  • O.C. Stand-in: We know a lot more about her in this story, including her name.
  • Point of Divergence: Because Hol Horse betrays DIO and joins the Stardust Crusaders following the battle with Enya, Tomomi ends up taking his place as the partner of Boingo.
  • Parental Neglect: As much as she was in love with DIO, she never wanted a kid. She still went through with it, but she never really raised Giorno per se.
  • Parents as People: She was never fit to be a mother, and she never wanted a child. Despite this, she grew to become proud of the man Giorno became despite her poor parenting and went on to kill her fellow brides because she hated how they treated him as inferior.
  • Pet the Dog: While she was a neglectful mother to Giorno growing up, she couldn't deny that part of her felt genuinely proud of him for rising above his past and becoming a respected mafia don. In Stone Ocean, she kills her fellow brides, Mariah, Enya, and Midler, because they constantly looked down on Giorno for being inferior to their own sons despite his success. However, of the three, Enya is the only victim she is relatively merciful to because she saw how broken the other woman became following her beloved DIO's death.
  • So Proud of You: For all that she never wanted Giorno, she admits that she's glad she brought him into the world and that he truly made something of himself despite his terrible upbringing.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: When she learns part of Thoth's prophecy involves her sticking her fingers up Polnareff's nose, she goes through with it without hesitation, but is deeply disturbed by it nonetheless.
  • Villain Killer: During the final parts of Stone Ocean, she tracks down and kills Midler, Mariah, and Enya.

    Pet Shop

Pet Shop

Stand: Horus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4c7df3d2_2b27_4ce8_b282_defa3431752b.png

A vicious falcon that's part of the Ten Glory Gods, Pet Shop's main role is serving as a bodyguard for DIO, killing anyone who comes close to his master's mansion.

His Stand, Horus (named after the Egyptian god Horus), allows him to manipulate ice.

  • Bodyguarding a Badass: His task is to be an Attack Animal to keep people out of DIO's mansion. That said, almost everyone inside the mansion is stronger than him.
  • Meaningful Name: Iggy notes that Pet Shop's Stand has an appropriate name, since Horus was said to be the guardian of the Egyptian pharaohs while Pet Shop is acting as the bodyguard of DIO's mansion.
  • The Voiceless: He remains this even with someone like Fluttershy around. In fact, he never encounters Fluttershy. Then again, with how psychotic Pet Shop is, it's probably best that we can't understand him.
  • Worthy Opponent: Iggy decides he's this when he sees how determined Pet Shop is to protect his master, even if it gets him injured in the process.
Iggy: Alright, Bruce Lee with wings. If that's how you want it, then bring it on!

    Telence T. D'Arby

Telence T. D'Arby

Stand: Atum

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ccfac1e1_98df_45ec_af38_569f62752ca5.png

The last of the Ten Glory Gods and a personal butler of DIO.

His Stand, Atum (named after the Egyptian god Atum), can read people's souls in addition to stealing them if they admit defeat in their hearts.

  • Always Someone Better: He claims to be the best video game player ever. Years later, we meet Chiaki Nanami.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He explains to Kakyoin that he didn't know which of the Joestar team he'd wind up luring into his video game parlor, so he planned ahead and made dolls for all of them just in case.
  • Foil: To Boingo of the Oingo Boingo brothers. While Boingo looks up to his brother and often relies on him, Telence absolutely despises Daniel and thinks little of his abilities.
  • The Leader: Ostensibly this for the Ten Glory Gods as DIO's personal butler. Then again, it's unclear just how much authority he has over them, especially when the two women on the team are DIO's brides.
  • More Despicable Minion: When Jotaro sees Telence's collection, he calls him a monster even worse than DIO. Let that sink in for a bit...
  • Morton's Fork: Even if he had somehow picked up on Joseph helping Jotaro to cheat, or Joseph somehow wasn't able to pick up on Jotaro's plan, there was still Fluttershy there, who could manipulate her plant vines the same way as Hermit Purple. Telence was screwed the second Jotaro decided to play virtual baseball with him.
  • Powers Do the Fighting: Skilled as he is at games, he often relies more on his Stand's mind reading powers to win. This ends up being his undoing, since he focuses too much on his opponent and not the possibility that someone else might be subtly helping.

Supporting Characters

    Holly Kujo

Holly Kujo

Stand: Chumbawamba

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/holy_kujo.png

The daughter of Joseph Joestar, Sadao's wife, and Jotaro's mother. Her being overwhelmed by her own Stand is what prompts the Joestar team to track down and kill DIO to prevent it. Years later, while joining her younger brother in the alter verse, she finds the strength to properly awaken her Stand and becomes a member of the Joestar Faction.

Her Stand, Chumbawamba (named after the British alternative band Chumbawamba), can release mists that promote non-aggression by making people fall asleep.

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Even years after Stardust Crusaders, she still looks amazingly gorgeous for her age. Her brother George notes that she was simply blessed by the genetics lottery.
  • Action Mom: Not in her introduction, but definitely in her second major appearance.
  • Adaptational Badass: Holly actually becomes a proper Stand user in this continuity after the events of Stardust Crusaders.
  • Ascended Extra: She shows up again in Spirit Tracks alongside her brother George III.
  • Berserk Button: Don't threaten a member of her family while she's around. It doesn't matter if they're not family by blood, to her, family is family.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: It turns out even Holly has her breaking point, especially when it comes to her family.
  • Logical Weakness: Her Stand is designed to remove tension and aggression from a target to lull them to sleep, but if they're too hyped up, they can wind up with more aggression than Chumbawamba can take, rendering them immune to the effect.
  • Mythology Gag: In canon she mentions to her father Joseph that all her Japanese friends call her Seiko. Sure enough, in this story, Fluttershy only refers to her by that name.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After finding a reason to fight, and thus finding her inner fighting spirit, she's able to fully awaken her Stand without it threatening her life.
  • Vine Tentacles: The form her Stand takes, and they come with sharp thorns for anything that proves immune to its normal powers.
  • Womanchild: To the point where she gave her Stand a completely absurd name just because she could.

    Anne

Anne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anna_22.jpg

A young girl the Joestar team runs into while sailing out into the Indian Ocean. She quickly bonds with Fluttershy.

  • Precocious Crush: She gets one for Jotaro, which makes things akward since she sees Fluttershy, Jotaro's actual girlfriend, as a Cool Big Sis.
  • Underestimating Badassery: At first she thinks Forever was the worst DIO had to throw at the Joestar team. She soon learns there are more powerful Stand users out there. It's just a good thing she was sent home before the team actually reached DIO.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: She claims she's at the perfect age for a girl to be traveling, since she's not old enough to need a bra... Right in front of Fluttershy, who is old enough to need a bra and is currently traveling as part of the team. Anne is understandably embarrassed when she's reminded of this.

    Malèna

Malèna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2022_06_23_at_20824_pm.png

A young Egyptian who runs into Polnareff while he's dealing with Alessi. She later becomes his wife.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: She only winds up de-aged to three years old thanks to Polnareff sensing Alessi before he could do too much damage, unlike in canon where she wound up a fetus.
  • Rescue Romance: When she sees Polnareff in his adult form after he went through so much trying to save her while de-aged, it becomes clear that she fell in love at first sight.
  • The Shrink: She apparently has a job as a psychiatrist while in France.

    Roses

Roses

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roses.png

The Joestar family butler, having served them for a good 30 years.

  • Badass Normal: He may not have the supernatural capabilities of some of his employers, but he's still a competent Battle Butler capable of handling most normal thugs.
  • Battle Butler: He's as much a bodyguard as a butler to Suzi Q, and a damn good one at that. It turns out he's a trained fighter.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: He wants to tell Suzi Q about her daughter Holly's condition, but he doesn't have the heart. He's shocked when he finds out she's known all along anyway.
  • Last Episode, New Character: Not really last, since at the time he's introduced there's a couple more chapters remaining, but he does appear close to the end. And there's a justified reason as well, since he's there to accompany Suzi Q while she checks in on Holly.
