    Filia

Filia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/filia_tvtropes_3818.png

An amnesiac girl bonded with the Parasite Samson.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Applies more to Samson. He makes it clear that he has no idea why Filia lost her memories since that didn't happen with any of his previous hosts, and he's far more encouraging to Filia.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Several people who knew her in the past note that she's gained weight, but not in an unattractive way.
  • Big Eater: Comes with hosting a Parasite. Samson even admits he's more of a glutton than most Parasites.
  • Dual Wielding: She happens upon the twin blades of Samson's previous host Delilah and finds she's a natural with them, easily using them to knock out one of Eliza's bodyguards.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: She manages to get some clues as to what happened in her past, reunites with Painwheel on happier terms, and gets a new friend in Squiggly. Oh, and she quickly becomes one of the heroes of New Meridian.
  • See the Invisible: Being bonded to a Parasite gives Filia the supernatural affinity she needs to see Stands.

    Cerebella

Cerebella

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cerebella_offical_render.jpg

A member of the Medici Mafia and one of its more noble-hearted members.

  • Bodyguard Crush: One of her duties is protecting Vitale, who she's been in love with for a while.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Not only does the team hook Cerebella up with a second Life Gem to give to Vitali, but Vitali becoming boss of the Medici after his father's passing convinces him to make Cerebella his wife like she always wanted.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Unlike some of the other New Meridian heroes, Cerebella has no supernatural affinity (Vice Versa doesn't count despite being a Living Weapon, since Cerebella is merely wearing it rather than being physically bonded to it). Thus she gets confused at seeing all the Stand-based shenanigans going on around her.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: It's noted that Living Weapons like Vice Versa bond to a chosen wielder, combining their strength.
  • Relationship Upgrade: At the end of the first arc, she's offered to become Vitale's wife. Having been in love with him for some time, she accepts.
  • There Is Another: While she and the Medicis knew there was more than one Life Gem, they didn't know where they could find one (it didn't help that Lorenzo was living on borrowed time). Miss Fortune solves the issue (and preserves her life), by offering a Life Gem that had been used to create Fukua.

    Miss Fortune

Nadia Fortune

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ms__fortune_tvtropes_2301.png

The sole surviving member of the Fishbone Gang who had eaten a Life Gem, granting her immortality.

  • Covered in Scars: From where she was dismembered and literally pulled herself back together.
  • Detachment Combat: Since she has Complete Immortality, she can detach her limbs, her tail, and even her head to attack with.
  • Everyone Has Standards: She may love cheesy puns, but she hates the "I can has cheezburger" meme since she finds it in poor taste.
  • Pungeon Master: Oh yeah, this is Miss Fortune we're talking about after all.
  • See the Invisible: Since the Life Gem has supernatural properties, Miss Fortune swallowing it allows her to see Stands.
  • Sole Survivor: The rest of her thief team, the Fishbone Gang, was killed and dismembered by the Medicis as an example. She alone survived, despite suffering the same fate, by virtue of swallowing the Life Gem while making off with it.

    Parasoul

Parasoul Renoir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/parasoul_tvtropes_7721.png

The crown princess of the Canopy Kingdom and leader of the Black Egrets.

  • Big Sister Instinct: When she hears that her little sister Umbrella went after the Skullgirl Marie, mistaking her for their mother Nancy, Parasoul is quick to head after her.
  • It's Personal: Not only was her mother the previous Skullgirl, her little sister was born during that time and is being affected by the Skull Heart through its current host. So needless to say, she has a very personal reason to stop history from repeating itself.
  • Men of Sherwood: As per canon, she always travels with her faithful Egret squad, who are more than up to the task of dealing with the undead summoned by the Skull Heart's power.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She's very proactive in protecting her kingdom.
  • Ship Tease: She has a crush on a subordinate of hers named Adam.
  • A Tragedy of Impulsiveness: She gets her ass handed to her by the team from Hope's Peak for not checking to see if Squigly was genuinely evil.

    Big Band

Ben Birdland

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/big_band_tvtropes_1725.png

A former honest cop who was left for dead by his corrupt squad, only to be saved by the Anti-Skullgirls Lab and made into a cyborg warrior.

  • Alliterative Name: Big Band.
  • Break Out the Museum Piece: While his pneumatic-based cybernetics are old-fashioned, he prefers them since they're still perfectly functional.
  • Genre Savvy: He immediately recognizes that Josefumi and the 77th Class are trying to remove the Skull Heart's influence from the world, and offers to team up to make the job easier.
  • Instrument of Murder: He's had his cybernetics designed after brass and percussion instruments, and puts all of them to great use in combat.
  • Mentor Archetype: Becomes this for the younger generation of heroes.
  • Old Master: He may be pushing middle age and his cybernetics aren't as advanced, but he can still put the hurt on any villain he comes across.

    Peacock

Patricia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/peacock_tvtropes_227.png

A quirky girl with the powers of a living cartoon.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Her arms were cut off by the people who enslaved her. Doctor Avian had them replaced with the Argus system.
  • Artificial Limbs: The Argus system, which acts as both her arms and her eyes.
  • Creepy Good: She's definitely a hero, but also a bit of a whack job.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: She gets to reunite with her old friend Marie, and together the two decide to paint the town red as a heroic duo.
  • Eye Scream: Her eyes were gouged out for daring to go against her captors. Not even Doctor Avian could properly repair them, so he improvised by using the Argus system to input visual data straight into her brain.
  • Foil: To Pinkie Pie, her Toon Physics being more of a throwback to Fleischer cartoons, while Pinkie is more about Warner Brothers cartoons. And while both are extroverts, Pinkie is a cheerful young lady while Peacock has something of a chip on her shoulder and anger to vent.
  • Lampshade Hanging: One of her "Shadow of Impending Doom" drops is a steamroller Shout-Out to JoJo itself. When it turns up in this story, she notes that she has no idea where it came from.

    Marie

Marie Korbel/Bloody Mary

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20230609_000256.jpg

The current Skullgirl, who has an understandable grudge against the Medicis.

  • Everyone Has Standards: She's only out to kill the Medicis, not any innocent people. When she tosses a building to take out Lorenzo's private airship, she makes sure to wait until he's over the water so that not even the resulting tidal wave will harm anyone.
  • Heel–Face Turn: All those who wish on the Skull Heart will eventually become undead monsters serving the Trinity's goals. But when the Trinity realizes their goals were wrong, they release their hold on Marie and allow her to live her life while keeping her new powers.
  • Last of Their Kind: With the Trinity removing the Skull Heart from the world upon their departure, Marie becomes the last Skullgirl to ever exist.
  • Pungeon Master: According to her best friend Peacock, Marie might be even worse than Miss Fortune in that regard. Even her current maid ensemble is a pun, a reference to how she intends to "clean up" the Medicis.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Implied. Unlike previous Skullgirls (such as Queen Nancy and Selene Contiello) Marie has been trying to fight its influence the entire time and just focus on the Medicis, which in turn lowered her overall power. Now that she's no longer in danger of losing herself to the Skull Heart's influece and has full control over her powers, she might just become even more powerful than any Skullgirl previously.
  • The Undead: As part as the deal when she made her wish on the Skull Heart, Marie became a Revenant.
  • The Unfought: Despite being the original Final Boss of the video game, Marie is never directly fought by the heroes. Instead, the entire conflict centers around dealing with Eliza, the true villain of the first arc.

    Painwheel

Carol

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/painwheel_tvtropes_5469.png

Filia's best friend. She was turned into a weapon by Brain Drain against her will.

  • Bad Powers, Good People: She's able to make use of her hatred to help others during the first arc.
  • Feel No Pain: With all the blades and artificial Parasites skewering her body, it's impossible for her to feel any more pain than she already does.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Thanks to Josefumi, she's able to break free from Brain Drain's control and become a hero.
  • The Power of Hate: Her primary power source. She explains to Filia that she's always had such anger burning inside, and only recently did she have an excuse to let it all out.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Feels that her parents would never truly recognize her (and given her arcade ending in her home game, she might have a point), but does at least let them know she's alright before moving in with the crew at Lab 8.

    Squigly

Sienna Contiello

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squigly_tvtropes_643.png

The daughter of Selene Contiello, one of the previous Skullgirls. She is revived from death thanks to her connection to the Skull Heart and her faithful Parasite, Leviathan.

  • Breath Weapon: Leviathan is capable of launching fire from his mouth.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Despite being an undead, she's quite nice to look at.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: She quickly bonds with both Filia and Painwheel during their efforts to stop Eliza.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: Leviathan notes that Parasites were once called Theons, after the theonite they were made from. But Eliza's actions caused people to see them as parasites, so they were renamed as such.
  • Magic Music: She had a promising career as an opera singer while she was alive, and even in undeath, her still strong set of pipes is fully capable of harming enemies.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: She's mistaken as one of Marie's undead servants by Parasoul, prompting the Hope's Peak team to intervene on her behalf.
  • Token Heroic Orc: She's the only undead raised by the Skull Heart that resists its control, thanks in large part to Leviathan's influence.
  • The Undead: She was killed by the Medicis just for sharing the Contiello name, only to get resurrected by the Skull Heart.

    Beowulf

Beowulf

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/42df69c62e5beb4b9837b669a2eb540a.jpg

A famous pro-wrestler who seeks to redeem himself after a fight he won was sabotaged.

  • Badass Normal: He's strong enough to take on Stand users and win. And without any superpowers of his own.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: He's got nothing but his wrestling mastery and an indestructible folding chair. He's still strong enough to defeat Gigans and Stand users.
  • It Has Been an Honor: He and the undead Grendel have one last fight. After Beowulf wins, Grendel basically says this to Beowulf, leaving behind his intact arm for the wreslter to use as his own (basically giving him access to the Gigantic Arm Blockbuster).
  • See the Invisible: He doesn't have any sort of supernatural affinity, but he can still determine a Stand user thanks to years of training giving him Aura Vision.
  • Shockwave Stomp: With his whole body! Beowulf smashes a few flying zombies with a moonsault of such power the resulting shockwave takes out a few more undead.
  • Worthy Opponent: He and Grendel thought this of each other, with each of them having their fair share of victories over the other. Which is why Beowulf was enraged when he learned their last fight was rigged in his favor, especially since it resulted in Grendel's death.

    Valentine

Valentine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/valentine_shuriken_re_design_artwork.jpg

An assassin working for Lab Zero. She is undercover pretending to work for the Skullgirl.

  • Foreshadowing: As she observes the fight between Beowulf and Chiaki, she notes the last time a normal human defeated a Stand user was just over a hundred years ago in Great Britain. Keep in mind Jojolion's first arc takes place in 2013, so the given time frame would put the event somewhere in the same time frame as Phantom Blood. We'd later learn what Valentine was talking about during the third arc.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: Lampshaded, as Valentine admits she's better at combat than stealth ops.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: She's easily stronger than most normal people. But the fact that she loses against Gigans while other people such as Hamon users, Stand users, and humans with Charles Atlas Superpower levels of strength win against such powerhouses shows that she's not as strong as she'd like to think she is.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted, as she shares a name with Funny Valentine.
  • Proud Beauty: To the point where she made her measurements a passcode to Lab Zero.
  • Underestimating Badassery: She had been convinced that all of Beowulf's wins against Grendel were fixed, since she'd fought Gigans before and was never able to win. But it turns out Beowulf is a lot stronger than she realized, and proves it when he goes toe-to-toe with Chiaki and is able to pull out a victory.
