    Giorno Giovanna

Giorno Giovanna

Stand: Gold Experience, Gold Experience Requiem

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giorno_giovanni_gw.png

The Sixth JoJo. The son of DIO, born as Haruno Shiobana, Giorno is an ambitious young man who strives to become a Gang-Star, a gang leader with morals and noble intent.

His Stand, Gold Experience (named after the album "The Gold Experience" by Prince), can generate life energy and grant it to anything it touches. Depending on whether the target of this energy is alive or not, it can either overclock their senses to the point of them losing sync with their actions, or turn it into a plant, animal (which can reflect attacks), or human body part.

Upon obtaining the Requiem Arrow, Giorno can make Gold Experience go Requiem, turning it into one of, if not THE strongest, Stand in existence, thanks to its ability to revert everything to "zero," completely nullifying any actions and willpower that had happened after that. Along with this, Gold Experience Requiem can inflict an infinite death loop onto anyone it kills.

  • Adaptation Expansion: He shows up during Stone Ocean to explain about his three half-brothers through DIO's other brides. He also finishes off Donatello Versus and uses Gold Experience Requiem to reduce Pucci's power from Made in Heaven back down to Whitesnake.
  • Anti-Villain: Once he takes over Passione, they focus more on white-collar crimes such as gambling, protection rackets, and other minor crimes geared toward profit instead of pain.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Giorno brings out the Requiem arrow to deal with da Vinci's Dream of Italy during Phantom Thief Joker, Joker assumes he's going to use Gold Experience Requiem to stop da Vinci. However, Giorno clarifies that just resetting the Dream of Italy to zero won't stop it, meaning they need to make a completely different Stand go Requiem. Specifically, Joker's W Boiled Xtreme...
  • The Don: By the time Phantom Thief Joker makes the scene, even he and Lupin request permission from Giorno to operate in Italy, in order to know where not to steal from.
  • Family of Choice: Despite being the son of DIO, he's a Joestar by blood due to DIO's body from the neck down being that of Jonathon Joestar's dead son, George Joestar II, and affiliates more with that bloodline, to the point where he refuses to go along with Pucci's Heaven plan for DIO's legacy.
  • Four Is Death: Inverted; he is the son of DIO's fourth bride, Tomomi Shiobana, and yet he ended up outliving not only all his half-brothers (J. Geil, Ungalo, Rikiel, and Donatello Versus), but also his three stepmothers (Mariah, Midler, and Enya). He's also the only one to become successful in his life, becoming a well-respected mafia don with control over all of Italy.
  • Happily Married: He married Rarity sometime after the events of Golden Wind, the two of them enjoying their lives together raising their toddler son.
  • Idiot Ball: He's normally cunning and calculating, much like his father, but during the fight with Ghiaccio, he tries to take a water escape. He is promptly reminded by Rarity that trying to flee An Ice Person by swimming is not a good idea, and that she can give them a much easier escape via crystal bridge. Giorno slaps himself for being such a dummy.
  • Loser Son of Loser Dad: Zigzagged; many people automatically distrust him for being DIO's son, and even the Speedwagon Foundation is wary of him, which he completely understands. However, Kakyoin assures that he is a completely different person from DIO despite having inherited some of his father's traits, and while the Speedwagon Foundation may distrust him as a group, there are some individuals like Kakyoin himself who don't. Jotaro Kujo also shared the same fears about him, but according to Polnareff, he apparently changed his mind later on at some point.
  • Rags to Riches: He and Rarity started small with minor cons hoping to catch the attention of the mafia to get an in. He ultimately winds up as don of Passione, gaining an empire worth millions of euroes.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: He's Joseph's half-brother instead of uncle due to DIO using a different body in this story, and the two of them interact more.
  • Villainous Lineage: Defied. While he is the son of DIO through one of his brides, Tomomi Shiobana, a villainous Stand user and one of the Ten Glory Gods from Stardust Crusaders, he chose not to follow in his father's footsteps. Instead, he became The Don of the biggest mafia in Italy after defeating his predecessor, Diavolo, and reforming Passione from the ground up.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Unlike most JoJo Stands, Gold Experience isn't a powerhouse. That said, when it hits a living being, it overclocks their senses, which can extend how long they feel the pain of each punch. That can be even more devestating. Buccellati even notes that under such circumstances, Giorno's enemy might just die from shock, such as what happened when Giorno defeated Donatello Versus.

    Rarity

Rarita Zeppeli

Stand: Art of the Dress

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rarity_2.jpg

Giorno's girlfriend and the granddaughter of Applejack and Caesar.

Her Stand, Art of the Dress (named after a Tabitha St. Germain song), has the power to grow and control crystals. The crystals can be grown on any molecule, allowing them to appear even from thin air or underwater.

  • Adapted Out: Her presence in-universe actually prevents the creation of Rolling Stone, the Stand responsible for sealing the fates of Buccellati, Abbacchio, and Narancia.
  • Adaptational Nationality: As with Hol Horse, her nationality was changed to Italian-American here because she is a biological member of the Zeppeli family. In canon, she was an Equestrian Pony.
  • Awesome by Analysis: She's able to estimate how much time King Crimson is able to erase just by observing the distance between her location and that of her Stand.
  • Badass in Distress: There's only a few times when she's in any real danger, such as when dealing with Baby Face or Notorious B.I.G.
  • Crossover Relatives: She's the granddaughter of Applejack through her husband Caesar through their second-oldest son, making her the paternal great-great-granddaughter of William Zeppeli. This also makes her the paternal niece of Hol Horse and Gyro Zeppeli as her father is their brother.
  • The Fashionista: She wouldn't be Rarity otherwise, actually complementing the other gang members on their choice in clothing.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Rarity can track anything tagged with her crystals, manifesting a crystal compass that grows from her Stand, and only her Stand. So when she holds the compass herself during the first fight with Diavolo, it's a hint that what we're following is really Art of the Dress disguised by Gold Experience's power to look like Rarity.
  • Foil: She's described as the Enya Geil to Giorno's DIO, having all of Enya's more noble qualities with none of her evil.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Technically, Art of the Dress has no physical form. What it does have is the ability to create one using precise control over the crystals it grows.
  • Generation Xerox: Like her paternal uncle, Hol Horse, she took a career that many would consider evil and dangerous, and got involved with a blond-haired Stand user. Though in her case, the blond-haired Stand user is DIO's Heroic Bastard son, Giorno Giovanna, and her career involved being the wife of a powerful mafia don. The difference is that she is an Anti-Hero who chose her path in life and sticks to it, while Hol Horse betrayed DIO and joined the Stardust Crusaders to stop his former boss.
  • Instant Drama, Just Add Tracheotomy: After a section of her throat is cut out by Baby Face Junior, she's able to save herself by creating a crystal tube to keep air flowing into her lungs. It holds long enough for Giorno to replace the flesh using Gold Experience.
  • Kiai: Like most of the gang, Rarity's is punctuated by an Italian phrase where she repeatedly calls her opponents "dull".
"CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO CARO! Che caro tesoro!" (How dull, darling!)
  • Logical Weakness: As is the case with most Stands that have no weaknesses on their own, taking out Rarity is the only thing that can stop her Stand.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Proves to be this for King Crimson without even needing a special upgrade, since her crystal growth can't be stopped once started. King Crimson only accelerates the process.
  • Mythology Gag: She's fully capable of flying an aircraft of passenger size, despite being only fifteen. Rarity the unicorn once got magical wings that allowed her to fly.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: She takes no prisoners when people act in a manner unbecoming of modern society. She gets Mista for his bizarre phobia of the number four, Abbacchio for continuing to rely on his police background when he's no longer a cop, Trish for being a spoiled princess and nearly compromising her own safety, and Fugo for forgetting what their family is supposed to be about.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She and Applejack were completely unrelated in canon, as they were only close friends. Here, she is Applejack's paternal granddaughter through her second-oldest son.
  • This Is My Name on Foreign: Rarita is Italian for rarity, meaning Rarity is just using an English translation of her real name for her nickname.
  • Torture Technician: She's surprisingly good at this, expanding any of her crystals embedded in human flesh to cause additional pain.

    Bruno Buccellati

Bruno Buccellati

Stand: Sticky Fingers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bruno_bucciarati_gw.png

The leader of the Passione territorial group that Giorno and Rarity join.

His Stand, Sticky Fingers (named after a The Rolling Stones album), can place zippers onto any surface, allowing for various things like passing through walls, detaching and attaching body parts, and so on.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: He's still not well-educated, but he does make better use of his numbers by making sure everyone goes off in groups for various tasks.
  • Alliterative Name: Like in canon, Bruno Buccellati.
  • Book Dumb: He freely admits he's not well-educated, even relying on Fugo for anything that requires genuine intelligence. He is street smart, however, and runs his gang effectively.
  • Broken Pedestal: He once thought Diavolo was someone he could look up to. That is until he found out Diavolo was willing to sell drugs to children and intended to kill his own daughter to remain anonymous.
  • Demoted to Extra: Rarity winds up taking a few fights from him. Though considering one of these fights wound up killing him in canon, he probably wouldn't complain.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He went into the interrogation of Giorno (regarding the death of Luca) not realizing that he was dealing with a fellow Stand user, nor that Rarity would also be a Stand user.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: An unintentional example, but getting exposed to Silver Chariot Requiem swaps his soul into Diavolo's body.
  • Hope Bringer: Like in canon, he was this for every member of his team prior to Giorno and Rarity. Fugo at one point theorizes Giorno might have been this for Buccellati during their first meeting.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Since Rarity winds up confronting Diavolo early instead of him, he lives well past Golden Wind.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: It turns out his patented method of using sweat to determine a liar isn't as foolproof as he thinks. Giorno has lived most of his life surviving on the streets, so lying comes as naturally to him as breathing. Thus during their first encounter, when Buccellati thinks Giorno's sweat means he's being dishonest about Luca's fate, he's actually feeling anxiety from seeing Luca's eye suddenly appear in his hand.

    Leone Abbacchio

Leone Abbacchio

Stand: Moody Blues

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leone_abbacchio_gw.png

A former police officer disillusioned by the contradictions of his job and the corruption of the justice system.

His Stand, Moody Blues (named after British progressive rock band The Moody Blues), has a form of retrocognition that replays past events exactly as they happened.

  • Easily Forgiven: None of his former friends in the police force hold it against him for turning to crime, understanding why he did so. They're just happy to be working with him again in some capacity (much of his duties as a capo involve being a liaison between Passione and the police).
  • Everyone Has Standards: He may not like Giorno, at least not at first, but he doesn't want him to die to Purple Haze's virus and immediately warns him when it first appears.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: After the fight with Formaggio, Giorno suggests the boss would send information on how to relocate Trish. Abbacchio points out that could take weeks, only for Mista to report that the boss just sent Buccellati an email detailing exactly what Giorno predicted. Rarity is suitably amused at this.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He starts off completely mistrusting Giorno and Rarity. But some choice words from Rarity coupled with seeing how far Giorno will go for the sake of those close to him starts to convince Abbacchio to give them both a chance.
  • Loophole Abuse: Normally Stands get weaker the further away they are from their user. But because of Moody Blues' ability, it can technically move miles away from Abbacchio in order to get an accurate replay. Thus, its Range stat is measured in time rather than distance.
  • Mundane Utility: He's able to fly a plane just by having Moody Blues replay a typical pilot going through the routine.
  • Occult Detective: Eh, sort of. Granted he's actually a mafioso, but he still retains his investigative talents from his time on the police force, and as a Stand user, he definitely fits the definition of "occult".
  • Only Mostly Dead: When trying to find Diavolo's face by rewinding a memory, he goes back farther than he could normally handle and nearly dies for it. Luckily he's able to come back, much to the gang's relief.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: After his near-death experience, he gains a new zest for life.

    Guido Mista

Guido Mista

Stand: Sex Pistols

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/guido_mista_gw.png

Passione's hot-headed superstitious gunslinger.

His Stand, Sex Pistols (named after British punk band Sex Pistols), is composed of six tiny units that can redirect the bullets he shoots by kicking and passing them around like soccer balls.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Rarity's ability to laugh in the face of fate, from nonchalantly eating an entire slice of cake (out of four) to slapping Mista four times, ultimately gets Mista to realize he was overreacting about his paranoia in regards to said number. He has a good laugh about this revelation afterward.
  • Cold Sniper: When it comes time for him to do his job as the gang's assassin, he's able to fire with a calm serenity that leaves him hyper-focused on his target. Otherwise he's a sociable sort.
  • Dope Slap: Rarity delivers him one for shorting out Narancia's radio with soda. She latter gives him four for continuing to harp on about his fear of the number four, two to each cheek.
  • Funbag Airbag: At one point he accidentally winds up in Trish's cleavage, quickly removing himself while shouting apologies.
  • Irony: For someone who's superstitious about the number four, he winds up doing a lot of things that connect to said number. It's one of the reasons Rarity thinks him an idiot for having such a silly phobia.
  • Mundane Utility: At one point he uses Sex Pistols to bounce around more than bullets, hitting things like crystal beads from Art of the Dress and a virus capsule from Purple Haze.
  • Official Couple: He's shown later in Phantom Thief Joker to be dating Trish.
  • Pet the Dog: Rarity has been shown taking pity on poor Cinque, berating and even injuring the other parts of Sex Pistols for teasing or bullying him.

    Narancia Ghirga

Narancia Ghirga

Stand: Aerosmith

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/narancia_ghirga_gw.png

One of Passione's younger members. A tough boy with a cranky headstrong streak.

His Stand, Aerosmith (named after American hard rock band Aerosmith), appears as a small fighter jet that is equipped with machine guns, bombs, and a carbon dioxide radar.

  • Adaptational Expansion: His two major fights are done with help this time. He teams up with Giorno against Formaggio, and with Rarity against Squalo and Tiziano.
  • Bad Liar: When he gets infected by Talking Heads, he makes so little sense that the gang quickly picks up on it and realizes that he must be under an enemy's control.
  • Eye Scream: Just like in canon, his backstory includes suffering from an eye infection, though it's been corrected by the time the story begins. He even notes to Giorno that his eyesight has been stronger than ever after the surgery that healed his eye.
  • Instant Drama, Just Add Tracheotomy: After Squalo's Clash tears his tongue off, Rarity helps him breath by jamming a pen into his throat, then removing the inkwell to both create a makeshift tube and have something for Giorno to change into a new tongue.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: During the fight with Formaggio, Giorno got an early advantage by using Gold Experience to stun him by overclocking his senses. Unfortunately, Narancia's next move blasted Formaggio out of Gold Experience's range, allowing him to recover.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: He's a lot smarter than he looks, and actually fakes being an idiot just to mess with Fugo. Years later when he's made a capo, it's noted that he actually does a good job running his designated territory.
  • Older Than They Look: He's the smallest member of the team, yet he's actually seventeen, two years older than Fugo, Giorno, Rarity, and Trish (who are each fifteen).
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He manages to avoid getting killed by Diavolo.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: Once Aerosmith locks onto someone via its CO2 radar, it's very, VERY, difficult to shake it.

    Pannacotta Fugo

Pannacotta Fugo

Stand: Purple Haze

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pannacotta_fugo_gw.png

One of the most mature members of Passione with a hidden temper.

His Stand, Purple Haze (named after a Jimi Hendrix song), produces a deadly virus that can infect people and make them rot to the point of literally melting.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Rarity convinces him not to abandon the gang, letting him do way more in the story.
  • Anger Born of Worry: The reason he was trying to talk Buccellati out of betraying the boss was because he was afraid it would lead to his death.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Since Silver Chariot Requiem swapped his and Rarity's souls, he winds up as this by default.
  • Awesome by Analysis: He's able to figure out part of how Risotto's Stand works despite never having fought him, just from the state of his corpse (meaning he had to have been fighting someone that was somehow invisible to Narancia's CO2 radar) and how something had earlier been controlling Aerosmith other than Narancia.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Subverted. Purple Haze only has six virus capsules to work with, three on each hand, so it can only fire off that many shots. But they do replenish at the end of the day, so its supply isn't finite, just limited.
  • The Complainer Is Always Wrong: He admits to Rarity that the reason he was against betraying Passione was because he was afraid it would lead to the death of Buccellati, someone he looked up to ever since he joined Passione. He was grateful that he ultimately turned out to be wrong.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Since the chapter Sleeping Slaves (and with it the Stand Rolling Stone) was Adapted Out, the story instead adapts Purple Haze Feedback in its entirety, giving Fugo a chance to shine.
  • Dope Slap: Rarity delivers him one after the team decides to defect and he tries to talk them out of it.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Once he learns that his inherit anger is the key to controlling his Stand, he gains enough clarity to realize that Passione has lost all sense of justice, and that Giorno and Rarity are seeking to restore that justice.
  • Morton's Fork: As Rarity points out, he has to pick a side. Even if he doesn't want to betray the boss, said boss would ultimately force him to betray his friends. He can't have a middle ground.
  • Official Couple: He eventually winds up in a relationship with Sheila.
  • Took a Level in Badass: His fight against Rarity convinces him to make use of his rage, allowing him to fully control Purple Haze and choose what gets affected by its virus.

    Trish Una

Trish Una

Stand: Spice Girl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/trish_una_gw.png

The daughter of Passione's boss who's taken in to be protected by Buccellati's group.

Her Stand, Spice Girl (named after British pop group Spice Girls), can turn anything it strikes into rubber, regardless of the materials that make them up.

  • Family of Choice: By the end of the story, she considers Vinegar Doppio to be her true father.
  • Idol Singer: She has a prominent singing career, both before and after the incident with Diavolo.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: She's berated by Rarity for her Spoiled Brat attitude and not thinking of her own safety, even knowing there are people out there after her life. She ultimately takes it to heart, leading to her Character Development.
  • Relationship Upgrade: She eventually starts dating Mista, and the two prove to be a successful couple.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She soon shows a side of herself that actually meshes well with the rest of the gang, even seeing Rarity as a Cool Big Sis (which is ironic since they're the same age).
  • Standard Female Grab Area: Averted when she tries it on Rarity. Rarity just gets her in an arm lock for her trouble.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: As the gang is preparing to leave Venice by plane, Trish notes how long it's taking. Rarity points out that preping a plane for takeoff takes much longer than in the movies.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Once she awakens her Stand and comes into her own as a member of the team, she winds up being this with Rarity.
  • White Sheep: She's the only member of the team who never kills anyone.

    Coco Jumbo

Coco Jumbo

Stand: Mr. President

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/45d8fe87_2952_4e01_a1e1_e3e63f0f42a7.png

Coco Jumbo is a Stand-using turtle that the gang makes use of in their efforts to evade La Squadra while protecting Trish.

Its Stand, Mr. President (named after German band Mr. President), possesses a pocket dimension inside itself that can be accessed via a special key that's part of its shell.

  • Adaptational Expansion: In canon, the team never bothered to give it a name until after the story. Here Mista winds up naming it Coco Jumbo on a whim after hearing what Rarity decided to name its Stand.
  • Meaningful Name: Rarity decides to name the Stand "Mr. President" since the pocket dimension reminds her of a presidential suite.
  • Mundane Utility: Giorno uses Mr. President to store the Requiem arrow for later use after he successfully defeats Diavolo.
  • Nearly Normal Animal: It's the least intelligent Stand using animal in the story. Forever, Iggy, and Morgana each became an Uplifted Animal, and even Pet Shop, "Bug-Eaten", and Tama gained Amplified Animal Aptitude, but Coco Jumbo remains just a normal turtle. Heck, its Stand can't even work unless an ornate key is placed in its shell.
  • Point of Divergence: Polnareff never winds up getting his soul swapped with Coco Jumbo when Silver Chariot Requiem activates (instead he swaps with Abbacchio). If Coco Jumbo did swap with anyone during that incident, it seems to have gone back to normal at the end of the story.
  • Team Pet: It pretty much serves this purpose on the team, since the only thing special about it is the pocket dimension hidden in its shell.

Passione Members

    Diavolo

Diavolo

Stand: King Crimson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/diavoloseiko.png

The main villain of Golden Wind. Diavolo is the head boss of Passione and the one Giorno seeks to overthrow.

His Stand, King Crimson named after British progressive rock band King Crimson), can erase time, affecting people by removing the cause of their suffering, but maintaining the effect.

Its secondary ability, Epitaph (named after a song by King Crimson), can see up to ten seconds into the future, the image appearing on the underside of Diavolo's hair.

  • Big Bad: The don of Passione throughout the story, and the one Giorno needs to defeat in order to fulfill his dream. Later, once his true intentions for Trish become clear, he's the one Team Bucciarati needs to defeat to protect Trish.
  • The Cameo: Briefly shows up in Stone Ocean, only to get unceremoniously killed off (again) rather quickly due to Gold Experience Requiem's effects.
  • Complexity Addiction: He had one heck of a roundabout way of trying to kill his only daughter. As Rarity notes, it would have been simpler to just hire La Squadra to do the job and compensate them with better territory to stop their grumbling.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He didn't think anything of DeKurliss giving Vinegar Doppio, his alternate personality, any information regarding the truth behind them. Nor did he ever think Doppio would ever sacrifice his own soul to save a daughter he never knew was even his.
  • Do Wrong, Right: When Rarity learns that Diavolo is intending to kill his own daughter, she muses how he went about it in all the wrong ways.
Rarity: "If he wanted her dead why not just task us with it? Or even better, appease La Squadra by giving them the job and offering them the better territory they sought as compensation?"
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even he can't stand Cioccolata, and pretty much the only reason he keeps the sociopath on side is that he'd prefer him in a position where he can be monitored and relatively under control.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He doesn't believe in the idea of family, thinking them to be nothing but a hindrance. This leaves him wondering why Buccellati would care about a few drugs on the street, despite likely knowing the drug trade is what led to the death of Buccellati's father.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Well, he's still technically dying, he just doesn't stay dead. Getting hit by Gold Experience Requiem subjects him to an endless series of deaths where he never truly dies. It's shown to keep going as far as Stone Ocean, the very next story (which chronologically takes place a full decade after Golden Wind).
  • Foil: Unlike Team Buccellati or La Squadra, Diavolo only believes in power and the means to obtain it. Family means nothing to him, and he's more than willing to kill even his only daughter if it means cutting off all ties to his identity.
  • Klingon Promotion: Gets hit by this hard. Once Giorno takes him out, subjecting him to an endless series of deaths without actually dying, Giorno then takes his place as don of Passione.
  • Logical Weakness: It turns out the power to skip time is not absolute even without a Requiem Stand. Sustained attacks (such as crystal growth, virus clouds, fire attacks, or preset traps) can actually be effective since King Crimson can't stop such attacks, only accelerate them. It's also harder for Diavolo to fight groups of people since he relies on his forecasting ability Epitaph to position himself to avoid damage he's skipping, which is harder to do when attacks are coming from multiple directions and you only have ten seconds to move.
  • Power Incontinence: Since he and Doppio are two halves of the same soul, both are technically the users of King Crimson. Which means that once Doppio manages to summon King Crimson on his own out of sheer rage, Diavolo can't control it and can't stop it from following Doppio's orders to sacrifice his half of the soul to stop Silver Chariot Requiem.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Epitaph and its Combat Clairvoyance is described as this. The narration notes that King Crimson's ability to erase time would be useless without Epitaph's ability to see a few seconds into the future.
  • Seers: As in canon, his sub-Stand, Epitaph allows him to see a few seconds into the future as a compliment to King Crimson's time erasure ability.
  • So Last Season: What he essentially thinks of The World's time-stopping ability. He admits it's powerful, but also considers it just "quaint". He then proceeds to display his own power to prove his point...
  • The Stations of the Canon: Noted in-universe. He admits during his fight with Rarity that she has enough power to kill him then and there, yet suspects she won't for three reasons. One, she's more focused on saving Trish. Two, she wants Giorno to have the satisfaction of toppling the boss. And three, he suspects that before Rarity can get the chance to kill him, she'll be too distracted by the others rushing into the church.
  • Wham Shot: Just as he thinks he's killed Rarity in front of her future self, said "future self" starts clapping. He then realizes it's the real Rarity, and what he's "killed" is actually Art of the Dress made to resemble Rarity thanks to Gold Experience's power.

    Leaky-Eye Luca

Leaky-Eye Luca

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leaky_eye_luca_anime.png

A minor member of Passione who was working the airports. The first opponent faced by the passionate couple of Giorno and Rarity.

  • Badass Normal: Presumably he took Polpo's lighter test like all other Passione members, but his lack of a Stand or knowledge of Stands would indicate that he was able to keep the flame lit for the full twenty-four hours. An impressive feat to be sure.
  • Hypocrite: He gives Giorno and Rarity his "three don'ts of friendship" (don't lie, don't bear grudges, and don't forget to be respectful), but Rarity notes that he doesn't follow any of his own rules.
  • Named After the Injury: He took a stab to his eye during a fight prior to the story, and by the time he meets up with Giorno and Rarity, it still tears up regularly.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: As a mafioso, he's tough and intimidating, certainly capable of getting what he wants from normal people. But as Giorno and Rarity soon learn, most of Passione is made up of Stand users. They themselves are way out of Luca's league.
  • Muggles: He has no supernatural affinity whatsoever, as shown when he can't even see Rarity's crystal growth when it blocks his Shovel Strike.
  • Zero-Effort Boss: He's easily defeated by two Stand users and through little effort on their part. Heck, he takes himself out when he tries to squash a frog created by Giorno's Gold Experience, which reflects the damage back onto Luca and caves his skull in. What's worse is that this is not the norm. Later parts of the series show that normal humans can and have defeated Stand users.

    Polpo

Polpo

Stand: Black Sabbath

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/polpo_anime.png

A capo of Passione, currently serving time for a minor sentence while still performing his duties for the mafia.

His Stand, Black Sabbath (named after British heavy metal band Black Sabbath), is essentially a living shadow that can move through shadows and control them to an extent. It is the main feature of Polpo's tests.

  • Adaptational Explanation: Him biting off his fingers and having them regrow is explained here as being the trigger for Black Sabbath to enter the lighter for his test.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: This applies both to him and his Stand. Polpo only cares about expanding Passione's ranks and finding useful recruits. Black Sabbath can't tell the difference between a normal soul and a Stand, and thus will test whoever sees the lighter reignite regardless.
  • Lack of Empathy: He only cares about expanding Passione's ranks and believes that one would be permitted by God to commit murder if they are somehow disrespected. This makes Giorno and Rarity realize that even if Polpo was fully aware of Black Sabbath's actions, he wouldn't have cared.
  • Original Position Fallacy: He claims to Giorno that if someone is disrespected, even God would permit them to murder. But since those words disrespected the death of a kindly janitor Giorno and Rarity were friends with, Giorno decides to kill Polpo in a way that makes it look like he committed suicide.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only shows up long enough to reveal Rarity was shot by Diavolo with the Stand arrow to test it, get Giorno and Rarity inducted into Passione, and be killed by Giorno to trigger the main plot.
  • Stupid Evil: Unlike his successor Dante, Polpo does nothing to refine the lighter test to insure that only the potential recruit gets tested. This causes the needless death of a good friend of Giorno and Rarity's. That alone would be bad enough, but then his words wind up unintentionally insulting the old man's death, prompting Giorno to subtly cause Polpo's death in such a way that it looks like a suicide.
  • You Will Be Spared: Since Polpo already knows about Rarity being a Stand user (having been there when Diavolo shot her with the Stand arrow as a child to test if it worked), Black Sabbath ignores her despite her having seen the lighter reignite.

    Mario Zucchero

Mario Zucchero

Stand: Soft Machine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mario_zucchero_anime_full_body.png

A minor member of Passione hailing from Rome, planning on working together with his partner Sale to steal a treasure Polpo had apparently stashed away.

His Stand, Soft Machine (named after British jazz-rock band Soft Machine), can literally deflate objects or people by stabbing them with its rapier, reducing them to paper-thin husks.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: During his conversation with Sale about Polpo's treasure, the narration suggests he's actually driving properly instead of making the dumb mistakes he did in canon (like hopping out of the car when he was supposed to be driving it).
  • Big Damn Heroes: During a doomed flight, Zucchero used Soft Machine to deflate several passengers and himself and hide them away in his suitcases, allowing them to survive the crash. This actually gives Jolyne, Rainbow, and Ermes a bigger window of escape when they're trapped in the memory of the crash.
  • The Cameo: A memory of him shows up via Donatello Versus' Stand in Stone Ocean.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: He gets his head non-lethally removed by Sticky Fingers, then has his mouth literally zipped shut, his nostrils and eyelids held open by Rarity's crystals while Mista puts glasses on him, and then dangled out over the sea by his eyelid with Rarity holding the fishing rod while Narancia, Mista, and Fugo pass the time with an awesome dance.
  • The Ditz: Dangerous as he and his Stand are, he's kind of an idiot. One great example is that he mistakes blacktails for seagulls.
  • Hidden Depths: He might be The Hedonist with dreams of money and women when he hears about Polpo's treasure, but he and Sale are genuine friends and partners. And he was willing to save as many lives as possible when he found himself on a plane doomed to crash.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: This story adapts Purple Haze Feedback, but Zucchero actually winds up saved from death thanks to Fugo.
  • The Worf Effect: The first time he encounters Buccellati's gang he nearly overwhelms them, catching everyone but Rarity and Buccellati himself. But against the Narcotics Team, he never stood a chance.

    Sale

Sale

Stand: Kraft Work

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anime_sale.png

Zucchero's partner in Passione, hoping to steal Polpo's treasure to move up in the ranks of the organization.

His Stand, Kraft Work (named after German electronic band Kraftwerk), can manipulate the kinetic energy of an object, either by taking or building it up.

  • And Show It to You: A rather unintentional example, but when he and Zucchero were caught by the Narcotics Team during the final chapter, he tries to use Kraft Work to stop the heart of one of the members. Unfortunately, he tries it on Vittorio, whose Dolly Dagger reflects most of the attack and causes Sale's heart to pop right out of his chest.
  • The Atoner: He and Zucchero totally bought into the cover story created to justify Giorno taking over as don of Passione, and went to deal with the Narcotics Team to make up for "unintentionally" attacking the new boss.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Against Vittorio. Since Dolly Dagger doesn't reflect all damage done to its user, Sale is able to put Vittorio in a lot of pain even as he winds up dead from having his heart ripped out of his body.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He wasn't expecting a Stand like Rarity's, which almost completely bypasses Kraft Work's powers.
  • Logical Weakness: Kraft Work can only block the kinetic energy of anything that hits either it or Sale. While it can even halt Rarity's crystal growth, it only works on the initial layer. When that happens, Rarity simply makes more growth on top of the previous growth, which Kraft Work can't stop.
  • Rank Up: His intention regarding the treasure, unlike Zucchero who initially just wanted to spend it all on the good life. Sale even notes that becoming a capo could make more money over time than what the treasure is worth.

    Pericolo

Pericolo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pericolo_anime.png

A capo in Passione. Pericolo is the one who accepts Buccellati's tribute and promotes him, then gives him the mission to transport Trish to her father.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unknown whether or not he knew Diavolo was intending to kill Trish to keep his identity secret.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: He commits suicide rather than let La Squadra torture him for information about Trish's whereabouts.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's well-respected in Passione (even Giorno and Rarity bow to him without question despite having just met him) and was a longtime friend of Buccellati's.
  • Dead Man Writing: Prior to killing himself, he sends one last message to Team Buccellati via Abbacchio's Moody Blues to let them know how they can finally get Trish to her father.
  • I Regret Nothing: He lived a long and full life, rare for a gangster, and is only upset that his subordinates will have to clean up his mess (read: dispose of his body).
  • Mr. Exposition: He gives the team context for the mission they're about to undertake involving Trish, so that they have a good idea why she's so important.
  • Muggles: He's the only other member of Passione (after Luca) that we know doesn't have a Stand. Likely justified, as he would have been a member long before the system Diavolo and Polpo set up to bring in new recruits.

    Vinegar Doppio

Vinegar Doppio

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vinegar_doppio_anime.png

The underboss of Passione, and secretly Diavolo's alternate personality.

  • Adaptational Badass: DeKurliss' words really rattle him to the point where he shows much more confidence and intelligence, which in canon he only showed when trying to find a phone to "call" the boss.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Not only is it hinted that he's the original personality, he willingly sacrifices his own soul to stop Silver Chariot Requiem to give Giorno's team a chance to defeat Diavolo and save Trish.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: Diavolo's been in control for so long that Doppio didn't even realize what year it was. When DeKurliss brings him up to speed with a simple newspaper, it starts to make his worldview unravel.
  • Heel Realization: He does know what Diavolo looks like, so when he finds his soul switched with Buccellati's during the Silver Chariot Requiem incident, seeing Diavolo's body instead of his own makes him realize everything DeKurliss was trying to warn him of. He's shocked to learn that he was trying to help the boss kill the person who is essentially his own daughter.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When he learns how to stop Silver Chariot Requiem, he willingly sacrifices his own soul to do it. The action causes Trish to realize Doppio was her true father all along.
  • See the Invisible: He can see Stands, despite seemingly having no supernatural affinity himself. He claims it's because the boss lends him his own Stand occasionally, but DeKurlis points out that being allowed to borrow a Stand doesn't suddenly allow a person to see Stands. The real reason is that Doppio is the other half of Diavolo's soul, meaning he shares King Crimson with Diavolo.
  • Wham Shot: He's completely dumbstruck when he summons King Crimson against Buccellati (while both of them have their bodies switched) when he wasn't "given permission". It's the last nail in the coffin that makes him realize he and Diavolo are the same person.

    Sheila Capezzuto

Sheila Capezzuto

Stand: Voodoo Child

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shila_capezzuto.png

A fresh recruit of Passione shortly after Giorno took over.

Her Stand, Voodoo Child (named after a Jimi Hendrix song), can generate lips wherever it punches, which then repeat anything that was said near where the lips appeared.

  • Action Girl: She's a capable fighter who can easily handle herself against most opponents.
  • Adaptational Badass: She winds up having a completely different emotion than canon when facing off against Vladimir, allowing her to catch him off-guard and ultimately kill him.
  • Adaptational Job Change: In canon, she's noted to be a bodyguard of Giorno's who had been part of Passione since before the story started. Here, she's stated to be a fresh recruit.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Her canon counterpart had already been a ruthless fighter at age ten, and was inducted into Passione as one of Diavolo's bodyguards after crushing a rival gang by herself. Here, she's a fresh recruit of Passione who had to learn the ropes under the more experienced members of Team Buccellati.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Sort of; her canon name of "Sheila E" gets changed to "Sheila Capezzuto".
  • Bridal Carry: Winds up in this position, with Fugo being the one to carry her as the two of them and Rarity flee Nightbird Flying.
  • Kiai: As in canon, Voodoo Child's cry is "ERI ERI ERI ERI ERI ERI ERI ERI!"
  • Not What It Looks Like: She's stopped from trying to kill Zucchero when Fugo notes her initial theory that Zucchero had betrayed the gang was incorrect. In fact, Zucchero was lashing out in pain after suffering from Massimo's power, and was trying to get away from its range while attacking anyone he could hear.
  • Revenge: She had wanted to kill Illuso for killing her sister, but didn't know if she could defeat his power. By the time she can try to find a work-around, Illuso was killed by Fugo.

    Cannolo Murolo

Cannolo Murolo

Stand: All Along Watchtower

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cannolo_murolo.jpg

The head of Passione's analysis team. In fact, he's its only member, and for good reason.

His Stand, All Along Watchtower, is named after the song "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan. It takes the appearance of a deck of cards and acts as the ultimate spy, capable of not being seen or heard, allowing them to relay any information gathered back to Cannolo.

  • Blood from the Mouth: Subverted. Vittori thinks this trope is in play just as he starts to die from stabbing himself over and over, but in reality, Cannolo just suffered a cut lip.
  • Easily Forgiven: No one in Passione gets angry at his actions prior to Giorno taking over. After all, you can't betray someone if you were never on their side to begin with.
  • Knowledge Broker: He's the sole member of Passione's analysis team. Since his Stand has such a wide range, he doesn't need anyone else to gather info.
  • Mundane Solution: How does he destroy the stone mask the team has been tasked with eliminating? With a gun.
  • Playing Both Sides: He was doing this in the background throughout the rest of the story, playing Team Buccellati against La Squadra just to see who could come out on top.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: He notes that's he's not strong enough to handle Angelica or Massimo, but his ability to No-Sell any attack thanks to his Stand being a colony type makes him perfect for dealing with Vittori.
  • Undying Loyalty: Once he learned that Giorno could read him like a book, he knew there was no point trying anything funny and swore fealty to Giorno.

La Squadra

    Risotto Nero

Risotto Nero

Stand: Metallica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/risotto_nero_anime.png

The leader of Passione's La Squadra di Esecuzioni, a group of assassins.

His Stand, Metallica (named after American metal band Metallica), can manipulate iron within both the air and the ground for various uses, like creating sharp objects and hiding himself from view.

  • All for Nothing: Other than getting a dignified death, Risotto accomplishes nothing going against Diavolo. His team's attempts to ransom Trish were worthless since Diavolo intended to have her killed anyway, their intention to find his secret drug route, which the oldest of mafia heads couldn't find, amounted to nothing since there were no such drug routes (the drugs were actually produced directly by the narcotics team through Massimo Volpe's Stand), he loses his entire team to Giorno's, and he himself fails to kill Diavolo.
  • Evil Counterpart: Like Giorno and his team, Risotto believes in the idea of family. However, beyond that, he has no morals and doesn't care about anyone other than his sworn brothers in La Squadra.
  • Face Death with Dignity: He'd rather die and apologize to his brothers in the afterlife than acquiesce to Diavolo's demand to restore the iron in his blood. Diavolo is annoyed that he was tricked into granting Risotto's wish.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: His Stand's power relies on this, allowing him to control iron particles in literally anything.
  • Near-Villain Victory: He comes very close to killing Diavolo and doing the team's work for them. Unfortunately, Diavolo anticipated that his lack of carbon dioxide emissions would lead Narancia's Aerosmith (which was flying nearby) to zero in on Risotto.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: When he first meets Doppio, he realizes fighting him could lead to the identity of the boss. It's only when he's starting to lose that he realizes the truth of his words...
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Seeks to kill Diavolo for causing the deaths of his friends due to their efforts in trying to kill Trish. He also intends to exact vengeance on Giorno's group, but they're low priority since as far as he's concerned, they were Just Following Orders.
  • Underestimating Badassery: He thinks he can beat Doppio/Diavolo just from knowing little bits about King Crimson's power. To be fair, he gets close.

    Formaggio

Formaggio

Stand: Little Feet

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anime_formaggio.png

The first member of La Squadra that appears, fought by Narancia and Giorno.

His Stand, Little Feet (named after American rock band Little Feat), can shrink any person or object that gets cut by its sharp index finger — including himself.

  • Didn't See That Coming: He tries to use a spider to interrogate Narancia and Giorno, like in canon, but didn't expect that even when shrunk down, Giorno's Gold Experience could stun the spider by overclocking its senses.
  • Hope Spot: He thinks he's succeeded in spite of his spider being stunned when he finds Narancia's map. Unfortunately, the map later burns up, and Formaggio is killed before he's able to make use of what little info he got from it.
  • Irony: Most times in this story the heroes are stuck trying to find a counter to a villain's Stand. This time, one of the villains is stuck trying to figure out a hero's Stand.
  • Mr. Exposition: He explains to Giorno and Narancia everything that had happened to La Squadra prior to them finding out about Trish's identity. Justified in that he had currently shrunk them down, keeping them clutched in his hands. He basically had them dead to rights with more than enough time to vent.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: While trying to torture Giorno and Narancia with a spider, he accidentally lets slip that even at their size their Stands could damage it, intending to simply have Little Feet contain Aerosmith. Unfortunately, he simply let Giorno know how to get out of that situation, letting him stun the spider with Gold Experience.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Not only did he not realize how tactical Narancia really was, but he didn't even know what Giorno could do.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He questions why Buccellati's gang wasn't there for Polpo's funeral. Subverted in that he's more trying to get information out of them that might lead to Trish's location.

    Illuso

Illuso

Stand: Man in the Mirror

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/illuso_anime.png

La Squadra's information specialist. He ambushes Fugo in Pompeii hoping to find information on Trish's whereabouts.

His Stand, Man in the Mirror (named after a Michael Jackson song), can use reflective surfaces to enter a "mirror world" and drag anyone he chooses into it.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the final chapter, it's revealed that he killed Sheila's sister, much like in Purple Haze Feedback (though it's never implied that he was ever a Serial Killer).
  • Ambiguous Situation: While his mirror world is shown to act as a Power Nullifier for Stand users that have Alpha-level or Beta-level Stands (which have a definitive physical form), it's not known how that would affect Stand users that have Gamma-level Stands (which are typically auras or embedded concepts), or any other sort of supernatural power (such as magecraft or Hamon). And since he dies in his first appearance, those answers are not likely to ever come.
  • Call-Back: During Stardust Crusaders, Kakyoin rejected the idea that J. Geil's Hanged Man could really travel in a mirror world, but Polnareff argued that as far as Stands are concerned, reality is no limit. Sure enough, Illuso proves him right, as Man in the Mirror does indeed create a mirror reality.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: He suffers the full effect of Fugo's Stand when its virus starts to melt him. Purple Haze finishes him off by punching his head and causing it to burst like a rotten melon.
  • Glass Cannon: Man in the Mirror has such low durability that Moody Blues, a Stand with only average physical power, is able to manhandle it. But like most weak Stands, where it shines is in its near unstoppable ability.
  • Knowledge Broker: Acts as this for La Squadra, a position necessary since they're an assassination unit and knowledge about a target is key in order to pull the job off.
  • Meaningful Name: His name means "delusional" in Italian. And sure enough, he's a Smug Super who thinks his power is invincible and that he can plan for any conceivable outcome. By the end of the fight, he's weeping and begging for any sort of death that doesn't involve Purple Haze's virus.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Beset by setbacks in his plan the whole way, Illuso proves he can adapt on the fly and almost pulls off a win. It's only because of Giorno's quick-thinking and Fugo's deadly virus that he fails at the last minute.

    Prosciutto

Prosciutto

Stand: The Grateful Dead

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prosciutto_anime_1.png

A support member of La Squadra, often partnered with Pesci.

His Stand, The Grateful Dead (named after American rock band The Grateful Dead), can generate a deadly mist that causes any living organism to start rapidly aging.

  • Adaptational Wimp: He's not able to keep his Stand up for nearly as long as canon. After all, once your brain is destroyed, you're pretty much dead.
  • Body Horror: When his corpse is later examined by Melone, he notes that Rarity made sure she finished Proscuitto off by growing her crystal spike through his brain, leaving a nasty mess in his skull.
  • Defiant to the End: Even when he knows Rarity has beaten him as she's about to kill him, he makes one final charge and slugs her, the intent being to get a bit of Rarity's blood on his knuckles so Melone can use it to track her, and thus Trish.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Instead of Buccellati, it's Rarity who ultimately kills Prosciutto, stabbing him through the head with a crystal spike and making it grow through his brain.
  • Groin Attack: His last defiant attack gets him kneed in the groin due to how enraged it makes Rarity.
  • Karmic Death: The Grateful Dead seems to have less effect on women unless Prosciutto focuses, so it's appropriate that it winds up being Rarity, at this point the only female fighter on Team Buccellati, who does him in.
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction once he realizes Rarity has the same mindset he does.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The Grateful Dead is less effective in colder temperatures. Proscuitto is aware of this, and advises Pesci to keep downing ice while the Stand is active so he can remain his proper age.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: For all that he berates Pesci, he knows that Pesci can be a genuine threat if he just has the confidence to do so, and makes sure to let him know it.

    Pesci

Pesci

Stand: Beach Boy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pesci_anime.png

Prosciutto's partner and the primary muscle of La Squadra. Definitely stronger than his meek personality lets on.

His Stand, Beach Boy (named after American pop/rock band The Beach Boys), appears as a fishing rod that can track and catch people and reflect damage done to its string.

  • All for Nothing: Despite taking Prosciutto's words to heart and working to improve his confidence, it turns out to have been pointless once Giorno manages to trap his Stand.
  • Bash Brothers: He has this dynamic with Prosciutto, who does his best to encourage him even if he's a little rough about it. Their Stands perfectly compliment each other, with The Grateful Dead weakening a target while Beach Boy finishes the job.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Instead of getting his neck broken, he's fully dismembered and likely died of shock due to a combination of getting pummeled by Gold Experience and Sticky Fingers.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Fluttershy from Stardust Crusaders. Both are introverts, but with enough strength of will to control their Stands without issue. And neither is above killing or even just maiming an enemy. The difference is Fluttershy is a good person and a heroic individual, while Pesci is a ruthless assassin and can even come off as sociopathic once he gains enough confidence.
  • From Bad to Worse: He was already having problems dealing with both Giorno and Buccellati, then he notices both their age lines starting to fade, meaning Prosciutto had just been killed.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite how meek and cowardly Pesci may seem, at no point does Beach Boy backfire on him or try to kill him, showing he does have enough willpower and strength to control his Stand.
  • Logical Weakness: While Beach Boy is far stronger than one would assume, it's really only good for targeting one living being at a time. Good for assassinating a single target, but if Pesci's outnumbered, he tends to get overwhelmed easily. Buccellati has an easier time against him with just Giorno as backup.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Despite being an Attack Reflector, Beach Boy turns out to be ineffective against a similar ability, such as the creatures made by Giorno's Gold Experience. This creates a feedback loop that traps Beach Boy and leaves Pesci as a sitting duck.

    Melone

Melone

Stand: Baby Face

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/melone_anime.png

La Squadra's main researcher, and something of a lecherous nut job.

His Stand Baby Face (named R&B singer Babyface), generates homunculi (dubbed Juniors) that can track down targets based on their blood samples, and assassinate them by removing key parts of a person's body and breaking it apart into cubes.

  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Baby Face Junior was able to get in a solid hit on Rarity, sectioning off her throat. If she hadn't created a crystal tube to maintain air long enough for Giorno to help her, she could have easily died. Of course, once she's fixed up and Giorno is helping her, Junior starts losing big time.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Rather than getting burned to death by gasoline flames, Junior is torn to shreds by a whole school of piranhas (created from Art of the Dress' crystal shards given life by Gold Experience).
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his lecherous actions, he's surprisingly picky about women, largely because creating an effective homunculus via Baby Face's ability requires a suitable female to impregnate. As such, he immediately rejects the idea of using Rarity, since her violent method of fighting and tendency to torture her enemies would make the resulting Junior too rebellious to control.
  • Dub Name Change: His normal Character Catchphrase of "Di Molto" is changed to the more grammatically correct "molto bene".
  • Irony: He rejected the idea of using Rarity for a mother since that would create a Junior that would be impossible to control. It turns out the woman he settled on wasn't much better.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Much like canon, Giorno observing Junior's power lets him use Gold Experience in a manner that allows for the replacement of vital organs and other pieces of flesh.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he sees the snake Giorno had made using the remains of the homunculus he sent after Rarity, he sees that there's a violet crystal shard embedded in it. That immediately makes him realize it was Giorno who sent the snake... And he's pissed at his girlfriend getting attacked and nearly killed.
  • Tongue Trauma: Melone is ultimately killed when Giorno sends a venomous snake to bite him on the tongue.

    Ghiaccio

Ghiaccio

Stand: White Album

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ghiaccio_anime.png

The final member of La Squadra properly faced by the team (the only time they see Risotto is when he's already dead).

His Stand, White Album (named after an album by The Beatles), appears as a suit that grants its wearer the ability to freeze just about anything.

Its secondary ability, White Album Gently Weeps (named after the song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by The Beatles), can generate ice by freezing the surrounding air and turning it into chunks.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed. He still hates confusing metaphors and foreign languages using Italian culture, but unlike canon where discussing them makes him fly off the handle, he only shows mild irritation.
  • Adaptational Wimp: He doesn't get to properly showcase Gently Weeps, since by that point his Stand is getting picked apart by Rarity's crystals.
  • Call-Back: Him not realizing that Rarity's crystal growth can't be stopped by cold temperatures like they are in nature due to being created by Rarity's Stand brings to mind Polnareff's fight with Avdol, where the latter notes that his flames don't act like they would in nature due to his Stand power.
  • Clothes Make the Superman: His Stand is a suit of Elemental Armor, which protects him from his own ability and fuels his ice powers while allowing him to keep up with motorized vehicles.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: He's killed when Art of the Dress sends its crystals to search White Album for any air holes to plug up and suffocate Ghiacco, only to find the only viable vent near his helmet, and instead goes for piercing his brain and torso.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He's the last member of La Squadra that Team Buccallati fights before learning about Diavolo's plans for Trish and deciding to defect for her safety. They never actually fight Risotto, and by the time they even encounter him, he's already been killed by Diavolo.
  • Foil: To Yusuke Kitagawa in Phantom Thieves Origins. Both have Stands with ice powers that can drop the temperature so low the very air freezes. But while Yusuke has Personality Powers due to his serene nature, Ghiacco has a Power Stereotype Flip due to being a hot-head. While Just Live More has a physical form, White Album is a suit Stand. Yusuke is a noble Phantom Thief, and Ghiaccio is an assassin with temper issues.
  • Gonna Need More X: Upon seeing White Album deflect bullets, Rarity thinks they'll need a rocket launcher to break through it and damage Ghiaccio.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When he mentions his hatred of other languages not calling Italian cities by their "proper" name (i.e. Venice instead of Venezia), it comes off as funny since this is the only story in the series where mtnetsufer uses the Italian words for said cities (in keeping with the story taking place entirely in Italy, thus logically everyone would be speaking Italian).
  • Logical Weakness: Zigzagged. While White Album can't freeze flames, it can't be melted by them either (at least not quickly).
  • Rasputinian Death: First his brain is pierced by Rarity's crystals, which starts to weaken his Stand. Then Mista shoots him with Sex Pistols redirecting the bullets through the cracks in White Album. Then as the suit starts to break apart, Giorno starts pummeling Ghiaccio with Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs. Finally, the process of being pummeled causes the crystals already in Ghiaccio's brains to come bursting out of his torso, ending his life.

Elite Guard

    Squalo

Squalo

Stand: Clash

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/squalo_anime_6.png

One of two Passione members sent to stop Team Buccellati following their defection. Partnered with his boyfriend Tiziano.

His Stand, Clash (named after British punk band The Clash), is a shark-like Stand that can appear within any form of liquid.

  • Battle Couple: He always fights alongside Tiziano, with their Stands perfectly coordinated to handle most threats.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: His Stand isn't as effective if someone knows it's coming. He normally relies on Tiziano to make up for that.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He's in a relationship with his partner Tiziano, and tries to get revenge after the latter's death.
  • Failed a Spot Check: He didn't notice Clash had a crystal from Art of the Dress in its metal scales, meaning he and Tiziano were left confused when the team wasn't fooled by Narancia's Stand-induced lies.
  • Gayngster: He's a confirmed homosexual, partnered with his boyfriend Tiziano.
  • It's Personal: When Tiziano gets killed by Narancia, Squalo declares his intent to get revenge.
  • Synchronization: Despite his Stand being remote, it's not independent, so damaging it can damage him in turn.
  • Shark Fin of Doom: How the gang first spots Clash, with the fin sticking out of Narancia's soup.
  • Stupid Evil: After Tiziano is killed, Squalo should have retreated to attack Narancia and Rarity from another body of water. Instead he wastes time splattering as much blood on Rarity's crystal wall (which she erected to keep Tiziano's blood from hitting her or Narancia) in order to make Clash large enough to shatter it. As a result, he's left wide open long enough for Narancia to finish him off.
  • Tongue Trauma: Inflicts one on Narancia for his first attack.

    Tiziano

Tiziano

Stand: Talking Head

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tiziano_anime_4.png

Squalo's boyfriend, joining him in attempting to take out Team Buccellati following their defection.

His Stand, Talking Head (named after American rock band Talking Heads), latches itself onto a person's tongue and forces the victim to always lie.

  • Didn't See That Coming: Apparently, he was unaware that Fugo did not split from Team Buccellati like Diavolo had predicted.
  • Liar Revealed: Not him, but Narancia (who he was trying to control via his Stand so that Narancia would only lie). Once the gang realizes Narancia's story about what attacked him does not match up with what they just saw, Fugo checks Narancia's mouth on a hunch and spots Talking Head.
  • Logical Weakness: His ability to force whoever his Stand is affecting to miscommunicate is useless if those around them are already aware of whatever truth they're trying to mention.
  • Support Party Member: His Stand has no combat options, so he relies on Squalo to actually take out threats while he makes them vulnerable by being unable to properly communicate.
  • Taking the Bullet: He dives in front of Squalo as Narancia attacks, intending to have his blood cover them so Squalo can finish them off.
  • This Cannot Be!: Several times, each making him more panicked then the last. First he's shocked that his Stand isn't causing confusion among the team. Second is when he sees one more person among them than there should be. Third is when Narancia and Rarity locate Clash and manage to damage it, and thus Squalo. Finally, when he finds out Narancia tricked them by ripping out his tongue with Talking Head still attached and having Giorno replace it.

    Carne

Carne

Stand: Notorious B.I.G

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carne_anime.png

A member of Passione who rushes the gang as they try to take off from Venice by plane. Mista kills him quickly, but that only triggers the real threat Carne poses...

His Stand, Notorious B.I.G (named after rap artist The Notorious B.I.G.), can follow and consume whatever is moving the fastest while increasing its pace to keep up. Unfortunately, it is only activated upon Carne's death.

  • Attack the Mouth: Once Notorious B.I.G opens its maw, Fugo spots a chance to launch all six of Purple Haze's virus capsules down its gullet.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Giorno sums up Notorious B.I.G's existence best.
Giorno Giovanna: This Stand is not like any other Stand we've heard of. It breaks the most fundamental rule of them all... That a Stand cannot live without its user.
  • Death by Adaptation: Well, the gang doesn't know for sure if Notorious B.I.G is actually dead, but they do see that Fugo's virus was effective. And both the narration and chapter title imply that the Nigh-Invulnerable Stand was Killed Off for Real. All the team knows is that it's out of their hair and they're all alive, so they simply move on.
  • Dumb Muscle: The only reason the team isn't taken out the second Notorious B.I.G activates is because for all its power, it's non-sentient. It will only target the fastest thing it can detect on pure instinct.
  • Logical Weakness: Since Notorious B.I.G is a Perpetual-Motion Monster, it can be harmed and even killed by something capable of draining its energy, such as Fugo's virus.
    • There's also a threshold for Notorious B.I.G's ability to sense movement. If something's moving too fast, i.e. near instantaneously, then it won't be able to pick up on it since from its perspective, the object will seem to not be moving at all.
  • My Death Is Only The Beginning: Mista guns down Carne easily, but that turns out to simply trigger his Stand, which is far more dangerous.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In the end, all Carne's death did was give Trish the inspiration to find something to believe in, allowing her to properly awaken her Stand.
  • Thanatos Gambit: Carne knew he was likely to die simply rushing at the team while they were getting ready to take off. But he was counting on that, since his Stand can only activate upon his death.
  • With My Dying Breath, I Summon You: He can only call on his Stand's power once he's murdered.

    Cioccolata

Cioccolata

Stand: Green Day

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cioccolata_anime.png

A former nurse who enjoys watching people in despair. He was hired into Passione after Diavolo learned of his depravity.

His Stand, Green Day (named after American punk rock band Green Day), can generate a deadly mold that devours the flesh of anyone it infects, becoming more dangerous in lower altitudes.

  • Adaptational Badass: A downplayed example, but with Buccellati not being a revenant in this story, he's just as vulnerable to Green Day as the rest of his team.
  • Adaptational Heroism: As heroic as someone like him can be, but it's implied that he didn't have any intentions of surpassing Diavolo, unlike in canon where it was implied that he was The Starscream.
  • Brain Food: Just as thinks he has Giorno in a corner, Giorno reveals he struck a bullet into Cioccolata's brain. Which was hit with Gold Experience's power to change into a stag beetle while still in Cioccolata's brain!
  • Elder Abuse: In his youth, he took joy in driving the patients of the retirement home he worked at to suicide out of despair.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He seems to genuinely like Secco, if only as a pet of sorts. Little does he know, the feeling is not mutual...
  • Expy: The mechanics of his Stand are compared to a real-life fungus known as cordyceps, which parasitize insects to move to lower elevations.
  • More Despicable Minion: He's the most depraved, most sociopathic, most psychotic member of Passione, to the point that not even Diavolo likes him. And keep in mind, Diavolo is willing to kill his own daughter! That's how bad this guy is.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Giorno absolutely pummels this guy! The author went so far as to make the paragraph last almost an entire page just to do it justice!
  • The Sociopath: Which makes his Stand even more dangerous, because he's willing to take its power to its logical conclusion. As Giorno notes, the subconscious of most Stand users puts a mental block on their powers so that they can't destroy the entire world. Cioccolata has no such mental block.
  • The Unfettered: He thinks nothing of unleashing the full effect of his Stand on Rome, even knowing it would kill thousands, likely even including members of Passione.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The fungus created by his Stand is easily destroyed by Purple Haze's virus, not helped by the fact that most of the fight takes place during the night. If not for its limited ammunition, Fugo could have easily dominated Cioccolata.

    Secco

Secco

Stand: Oasis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/secco_anime.png

Cioccolata's personal servant, who shares his views regarding suffering.

His Stand, Oasis (named after British rock band Oasis), is a suit that, when worn, grants its wearer the ability to liquify the ground and swim through it like water.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Not only does he completely fumble against Rarity, he never even gets the chance to truly showcase the power of Oasis after Cioccolata's death, as he rushes straight for the Coliseum only to get turned into a pincushion by Polnareff.
  • Always Someone Better: He may be a Lightning Bruiser, but unfortunately for him, so is Silver Chariot. In fact, it's even faster.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: His fighting style relies on bouncing off the softened ground created by his Stand. But when he tries it against Rarity, he finds his elbows banging on the crystal floor created by Art of the Dress, which only causes him pain.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: He winds up killed by Polanreff in this story, showing to the readers that the Stardust Crusaders veteran is not crippled or weakened in this continuity.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: After he learns that Cioccolata has been killed, he just laughs and states that the only reason he followed the madman was because he thought Cioccolata was invincible. And the sugar cubes and back rubs...
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He really likes sugar cubes, and isn't above doing tricks for them.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Whether Oasis just can't affect crystals in general or Rarity's crystals can only be controlled by her, Secco finds himself unable to do anything to the crystal constructs created by Art of the Dress.

Narcotics Team

    Massimo Volpe

Massimo Volpe

Stand: Manic Depression

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fullvolpe.png

The lead developer of the Narcotics Team, with his Stand being the key to its success.

His Stand, Manic Depression (named after a Jimi Hendrix song), can manipulate the biological functions of those pierced by his Stand's thorns. For example, it can increase a person's heart rate until the heart explodes. Along with this, it can temporarily convert any kind of powder-like substance into a powerful opiate.

  • Dragon Their Feet: He's technically the Number Two of the Narcotics Team, but he's the final one faced after the death of Vladimir.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: It's implied that he didn't share his family's views on his older brother Tonio becoming a chef, as his final thoughts before he dies to Fugo's virus is hope that Tonio's restaurant is a success.
  • From Bad to Worse: What would have happened had he managed to become a stone mask vampire. Manic Depression can give him the strength of a vampire, but if he were already a vampire, it could give him the strength of a Gigan.
  • Keystone Army: Zigzagged. Massimo is able to use his Stand to turn salt into a powerful opiate that comes fresh and spoils quickly, and can't be taken outside his Stand's range. This is the source of the Narcotics Team's success, so if he dies for whatever reason, they're out of luck. That said, he's the last member of the team taken out in-story, which renders the above point moot.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Gets this from Fugo, having just witnessed him getting enraged over Angelica's death.
  • Post-Final Boss: He's the final enemy faced in Golden Wind, but he turns out to be easier to defeat than Diavolo.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: He was under the impression that he and Fugo weren't so different when he first met him in college. He turned out to be right, just not in the way he imagined.
  • Ship Tease: It's implied that he and Angelica were in love, which was only hampered by the latter's terminal illness.

    Angelica Attanasio

Angelica Attanasio

Stand: Nightbird Flying

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angelica_attanasio.jpg

A member of the Narcotics team, primarily there because a direct injection from Massimo's Stand is the only thing that can numb the pain of her terminal illness.

Her Stand, Nightbird Flying (named after the song "Night Bird Flying" by Jimi Hendrix), can afflict anyone in its range with the symptoms of a fatal drug addiction.

  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: When the team spots a bird flying near their helicopter, they realize the fact that it's actually keeping pace with the chopper means it's not actually a bird, but Angelica's Stand. This gives them time to flee and prepare a counterattack.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: She winds up killed by Rarity's crystals instead of Fugo's virus in this story.
  • Ill Girl: She's suffering from a terminal illness that is, unfortunately, genetic. The only thing that gives her relief is getting a direct fix from Massimo's Stand.
  • Killer Rabbit: Her Stand has a horrible ability that can turn an entire city into drug-addled zombies, yet it looks like an adorable little bird.
  • Logical Weakness: Like with most drug addicts, a good shock can often snap them out of it temporarily. Rarity makes use of this fact by putting her talent for torture to benign use, growing crystals on her own back as well as Fugo's to counter Nightbird Flying's effect.

    Vladimir Kocaqi

Vladimir Kocaqi

Stand: Rainy Day Dream Away

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vladimir_kocaqi.jpg

A former capo in Passione, who was ejected by Giorno when he refused to give up his narcotics trade.

His Stand, Rainy Day Dream Away (named after a Jimi Hendrix song), can lock whatever emotion someone is feeling while within his Stand, ensuring his victims feel nothing but that locked emotion.

  • Affably Evil: He's a pretty swell boss to work for, to the extent that Giorno thought it would be a waste to just kill him. Shame that he considers the drug trade to be too profitable to give up on.
  • Battle in the Rain: Invoked, since his Stand takes the form of rain.
  • Benevolent Boss: As a capo, he was respectful to his subordinates and ran his territory well. It's why Giorno at first simply asked him to stop drug peddling, out of respect for his talent.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: He gets killed by Sheila in this story, after accidentally locking in her a sentiment of needing to rely more on brute force to deal with him.
  • Idiot Ball: He split off from his team to deal with the people sent after them. Keep in mind he and Vittori were just discussing how one of those people, Rarity, was capable of killing Diavolo.
  • Logical Weakness: Rainy Day Dream Away may be able to lock in the most recent emotion of a person, but it doesn't come with the Required Secondary Powers to know what that emotion is, so Vladimir has to figure it out himself. If he locks in the wrong emotion, such as aggression towards himself, he could very easily seal his own fate.
  • Pet the Dog: According to Vittori, Vladimir was planning to give Angelica the same treatment he gave his dying sister, locking in one final moment of happiness that would have let Angelica live a life free of her illness.

    Vittorio Cataldi

Vittorio Cataldi

Stand: Dolly Dagger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vittorio_cataldi.jpg

A psychotic masochist who works for the Narcotics Team. He believes that pain is life force, and loves inflicting it on himself and others.

His Stand, Dolly Dagger (named after a Jimi Hendrix song), can reflect up to seventy percent of the damage he receives onto whatever is within his Stand's reflection.

  • Devious Daggers: The form his Stand takes. Though he doesn't actually use it to attack others directly, but rather deliberately damages himself to reflect most of the injury onto an enemy.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He's very somber thinking about Angelica's illness, realizing that it's not a good thing and is only causing her grief.
  • Last-Second Chance: Cannolo explains that Vittorio is the only member of the Narcotics Team that Giorno was intending to welcome back, if he was willing to work for that trust. Unfortunately, Vittorio decides to refuse.
  • Logical Weakness: Judging from how ineffective Dolly Dagger was against All Along Watchtower, one can expect it would be similarly useless against any colony Stand due to how they split damage to their user (imagine if Vittorio tried to use it against Harvest or Bad Company).
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction when he realizes Cannolo's Stand can disseminate the 70% damage he would normally take from Dolly Dagger's ability.
  • Undying Loyalty: While he does consider Cannolo's offer, he ultimately chooses to stick with his team and tries to kill Cannolo. Shame he made his attempt using his Stand's ability...
