Alter Verse Denizens

    Gazef Stronoff

Gazef Stronoff

Stand: Dawn of Battle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gazef_databook.png

The Warrior Captain of Re-Estiz.

His Stand, Dawn of Battle, is named after a song by Manowar. It can generate a powerful armor and weapon set that comes with five different powers; vampire level regeneration, endless stamina, immunity to ailments such as poison or burns, omnidirectional awareness, as well as being capable of cutting through any defense like paper.

  • Anti-Debuff: His Stand renders him immune to negative status ailments, such as burns or poison.
  • Gradual Regeneration: With his Stand active, Gazef can heal at a rate equal to vampires.
  • The Juggernaut: While his Stand is active, he never runs out of stamina.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He possesses incredible strength and speed, and with his Stand, he can even take on supernatural beings.
  • Spanner in the Works: The fact that he's a common-born with a Stand pokes a serious hole in the Unity Faction's ideology that only the upper echelon of society are worthy of them. Thus they try to have him killed at the earliest possible opportunity.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Since Momonga has no interest in conquering other nations, he doesn't find himself in a position of needing to kill Gazef. As such, Gazef lives through the entire story.
  • Super-Senses: His Stand grants him omnidirectional awareness of his surroundings.

    Enri Emmot

Enri Emmot

Stand: Seven Nation Army

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enri_emmot.png

A young girl who is saved by Momonga's actions during an attack on her home village of Carne. She's later appointed as the village chieftain.

Her Stand, Seven Nation Army, is named after a song by The White Stripes. Appearing as a simple horn carved from an animal bone, it lets Enri signal and command goblins and ogres, and if she blows the horn, she can summon a massive army of goblins five-thousand strong, consisting of a strategist and eleven units.

  • Adaptational Badass: Her summoning the goblin army in canon was an accident, as she happened to fit the conditions for a secret function of the horn given to her by Ainz. Here she summons the army deliberately thanks to her Stand.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father tragically lost his life during the attack on Carne Village. Luckily her mother didn't suffer the same fate thanks to George and Gyro.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: When she needs to, she can use her Stand's physical ability (a small war horn) to summon a massive army of goblins that can handle most other armies.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives a harsh one to Barbro for trying to conscript Carne Village into his schemes when his own father had named them exempt from war conscription after Nigun's attack.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Her Stand has a passive effect that is always active, which allows her to command goblins and ogres. This makes it easier to direct the goblin army summoned when she uses her Stand's main ability.

    Nigun Grid Luin

Nigun Grid Luin

Stand: Within Temptation

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nigun_grid_luin.png

The former leader of the Sunlight Scripture, hired by the nobility of Re-Estize to eliminate Gazef Stronoff.

His Stand, Within Temptation, is named after symphonic metal band Within Temptation. It allows Nigun the ability to conjure a variety of angels of varying types.

  • Competitive Balance: From what little is seen, it appears as though Nigun can only summon a certain number of angels at a time based on their strength. He's first shown with dozens of Affinities, but later only summons one each of the stronger angels.
  • Our Angels Are Different: In fact, they're taken directly from Bayonetta.
  • Power Levels: The angels he can summon vary in power depending on their position in the grand cosmology.
  • Powers Do the Fighting: He relies purely on his summoned angels in a fight. But since his Stand is a physical object, it can be taken from him, which leaves him powerless.
  • Targeted to Hurt the Hero: He attacked entire villages, expecting Gazef to ride out in their defense since he too was common born.
  • Taught by Experience: He's had months to figure out all the mechanics of his Stand and what it can summon.
  • This Cannot Be!: His reaction when he sees his strongest angel, the seraph Glamour, get destroyed by Momonga using his Stand to conjure a black hole.
  • Warm-Up Boss: He's the only villain faced by George and Gyro that isn't part of the Unity Faction.

    Brita

Brita

Stand: Fly on the Wall

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brita.png

A female adventurer who runs into the Ainz Faction. She later moves to Carne village.

Her Stand, Fly on the Wall, is named after a song by Thousand Foot Krutch. It allows her to keep track of an enemy while she's engaged in battle, and activates automatically once someone targets her aggressively.

  • Fights Like a Normal: We never see her fight, but it's logical to assume this is the case since her Stand has no offensive options.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: While not the biggest power as far as Stands go, Fly on the Wall is basically the perfect radar sense. And since Brita doesn't need to actively tag someone to use it, she can never be caught off-guard.
  • Super-Senses: Her Stand is automatic, needing no input from her. So long as an opponent has the intent to attack her, it'll trigger her Stand and let her counter.

    The Ancient One

The Ancient One

Stand: Down at the Station

The oldest known Stand user, and very likely the first, he is the proprietor of the Spirit Tracks.

His Stand, Down at the Station, is named after a song by Billy Yates. It is regarded as possibly being one of the most powerful Stands in existence, thanks in large part to its ability to unite people together. It does this by creating and extending tracks from its physical form (a large train station with a rotary platform in its center), through which any train can run on.

  • Anachronism Stew: Zigzagged. While the alter verse is a world of High Fantasy, it's also shown to be in Medieval Stasis, since its timeline runs parallel with the main universe. Either way, the presence of steam trains is rather odd in this setting.
  • Complete Immortality: One of the abilities his Stand grants him is the ability to be ever-living and unkillable.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He's so old that not even he remembers what his real name is.
  • Hope Bringer: As the Ancient One puts it, the reason his Stand might be the most powerful of them all is because it has the potential to unite an entire world via this trope.
  • Mission Control: His Stand is the central hub for the Spirit Tracks, from which he can share energy with the denizens of the alter verse to create an effective train network.
  • Silver Fox: Despite showing clear signs of aging, the narration notes that his body hasn't changed from its prime.

    Peter Mork

Peter Mork

Stand: Metheny Group

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fz721eto.png

The leader of the Swords of Darkness.

His Stand, Metheny Group, is named after the jazz band Pat Metheny Group. It lets him split into four copies of himself, with the copies being able to mimic everything he does.

    Lukeluthor Volve

Lukeluthor Volve

Stand: Roundabout

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gxc7uvzk.png

An archer and member of the Swords of Darkness.

His Stand, Roundabout, is named after a song by Yes. This Stand lets him shoot big black arrows capable of homing in on targets, freezing any hit enemies in place.

    Ninya

Celicia Veryon

Stand: Jodeci

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/y4y1rz3r.png

A spellcaster and member of the Swords of Darkness, who happens to be looking for her older sister.

Her Stand, Jodeci, is named after R&B group Jodeci. With this Stand, Ninya can conjure and control glass shards of varying sizes.

  • Real Name as an Alias: Not her own, but her sister Tuareninya. It was Ninya's way of trying to find info on Tuare's location.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Not only that, but in a case of cathartic retribution, she completely decimates Clementine (who had killed her in canon).
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Peroroncino quickly picks up on the fact that she's actually a girl.

    Dyne Wonderwood

Dyne Wonderwood

Stand: Savage Garden

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/w94uqvnn.png

A druid and member of the Swords of Darkness.

His Stand, Savage Garden, is named after pop duo Savage Garden. It allows him the ability to manipulate the surrounding vegetation.

  • Always Someone Better: His Stand functions as a weaker version of Music in the Trees, since Savage Garden can only work with what plants are in the area around Dyne.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Not for Dyne himself, but his Stand. Savage Garden is also the name of a carrier pigeon Fluttershy's been taking care of.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Like the rest of his team, he survives well past Clementine's appearance.

    Nfirea Bareare

Nfirea Bareare

Stand: Majin Gattai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nfirea_bareare.png

An alchemist and childhood friend of Enri's.

His Stand, Majin Gattai, is named after the song "Majin Gattai! MagiKing" by Masaaki Endoh. This Stand grants Nfirea extensive magical knowledge, as well as the aptitude to cast multiple spells.

  • Adaptational Badass: Nfirea was still a budding magic caster in canon. Here his Stand makes him The Archmage, to the point where even Fluder calls him a god.
  • Always Save the Girl: His efforts to protect Enri from Guu's attack results in his Stand awakening.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Majin Gattai has a color scheme that perfectly matches up with MagiKing, with a green jacket, yellow cape, blue boots, red undershirt, and pink pendant.
  • Official Couple: With Enri, just like in canon.
  • Shout-Out: Nfirea's frankly badass attack on Guu does a good impression of MagiKing's first fight, even using a Phantom Illusion spell.

    Hamsuke

Hamsuke

Stand: Tiger by the Tail

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hamsuke.png

A giant hamster that acts as the Wise King of the Forest.

Her Stand, Tiger by the Tail, is named after the song "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail" by Buck Owens. It is a long and prehensile tail, granting Hamsuke additional options for attack.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: She's first encountered being controlled by Calling All the Monsters. Luckily, George is able to snap her out of it with his Hamon.
  • I Have Many Names: She's called the Wise King of the Forest by humans, and the Beast of the South by forest dwellers. The main characters just choose to call her Hamsuke.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: She politely lets the team know that she's female when they start referring to her as "it".
  • Lightning Bruiser: She's incredibly fast and as strong as her size would suggest, easily able to overwhelm an Adamantite level adventurer.
  • She Is the King: Despite being female, Hamsuke is known as the Wise King of the Forest by the people of Carne Village.

    Brain Unglaus

Brain Unglaus

Stand: Hybrid Theory

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brain_anime.png

A former bandit leader, he's convinced to rejoin Re-Estize as an adventurer after a lecture from Shalltear.

His Stand, Hybrid Theory, is named after an album by Linkin Park. This Stand is meant to work with the alter verse concept of Martial Arts, letting Brain combine the effects of Martial Arts that are otherwise incompatible.

  • Adaptational Badass: He actually does much better in his initial fight with Shalltear, his Stand pushing his physical limit to the point that he's able to draw blood from the vampire's palm.
  • Amazon Chaser: He finds himself incredibly attracted to Leinas due to her strength and beauty.
  • Foreshadowing: When George and Gyro are confused as to how Jonathan Joestar could have wound up in the alter verse when the crack they used to enter only appeared in recent months, Brain puts forth the idea that perhaps a different crack appeared decades ago via Earth's natural ley lines. Sure enough, Jonathan was accidentally pulled into the alter verse by a Stand user that could manipulate said ley lines to move back and forth between the two sub-realities.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Shalltear lets him know that he'll never get stronger joining with a bandit troop that only preys on the weak.
  • Ship Tease: During the war, he fights with Leinas and actually flirts with her, with her flirting right back.

    Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself

Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/renner.png

The second princess of Re-Estize.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Thanks to having Starlight for a sister, Renner has someone on her intellectual level and thus is more genuinely sociable.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Like Starlight, Renner actively researches how to restore the Spirit Tracks to their original peak for the sake of the alter verse.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Hence the reason why she passed laws to have it abolished. The Noble Faction... Didn't like that. Not that they could do much about it besides keep it underground.

    Climb

Climb

Stand: Living on a Prayer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/climb_anime.png

A promising young soldier of Re-Estize. Most frequently Renner's personal guard.

His Stand, Living on a Prayer, is named after a song by Bon Jovi. It allows him to survive in situations that would normally kill someone, and with each near-death experience, Climb only grows stronger and stronger.

  • Expy: His ability to get stronger after recovering from a near-deadly blow has been compared to a Saiyan's Zenkai Boost.
  • Genre Savvy: He can't bring himself to see Renner as a monster (unlike some other people), but he's not so naive that he can't tell how genuinely intelligent she is. As such, he's confident that she won't fall so easily to an assassination attempt even if he's not there at her side.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: He represents the purest ideologies of knighthood.
  • Last Chance Hit Point: His Stand is a passive aura that prevents him from ever taking lethal damage, just close to it, bouncing back to become even stronger.

    Zanac Varleon Igana Ryle Vaiself

Zanac Varleon Igana Ryle Vaiself

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zanac_valleon_igana_ryle_vaiself.png

The second prince of Re-Estize.

  • Cowardly Lion: In his own words, he's conniving, but not a coward. He's not above riding into battle, if only to reassure his people that they'll be safe and watched over by the royal family and palace guard.
  • Crapsack Only by Comparison: How he feels about lizardman society, pointing out that while they're not as advanced as human society, they're still a sophisticated community. Heck, he believes in this trope in general.
  • Heir Club for Men: After Barbo is disowned for treason, Zanac becomes first prince and heir to the throne, despite the fact that Starlight is older and Renner is the only other legitimate child among the siblings.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: He looks like a stereotypical evil prince, but he actually has the best of intentions for both Re-Estize and the alter verse as a whole.
  • Siblings Share the Throne: While he's in place to be the sole king of the realm, in practice he intends to share the actual ruling of the kingdom with his two sisters.

    Marquis Raeven

Marquis Raeven

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elias_brandt_dale_raeven.png

Nazac's closest supporter, and one of the few decent members of the Re-Estize nobility.

  • Genre Savvy: He's suspicious of Barbro simply due to the fact that the first prince rarely ever schemes.
  • Good Counterpart: To the Noble Faction in general, as unlike the majority of them, he actually cares about the people and wishes to see the Spirit Tracks restored.
  • We Have Become Complacent: He's well-aware Re-Estize suffers this, hence why he doesn't agree with Barbro's idea of invading the elven kingdom. It's just not feasible from a logistical perspective, especially when the more advanced Slane Theocracy has failed over and over to conquer the elves.

    Guu

Guu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/guu.png

A war troll who is known as the Giant of the East. After Hamsuke's disappearance, he tries to make a move to take over the entire region, including Carne Village.

  • Determinator: Ryaryus notes that Guu will not stop his assault until he either succeeds or dies in the attempt. He's that stubborn.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In canon Ainz used his Death Aura to kill Guu and the other trolls all at once. Here Guu gets aged to dust by Gyro's Stand.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: All trolls have incredible regenerative capabilities, though they do still feel pain from their wounds. Guu is no exception, but in his case it's a subversion as he gets hit by several attacks that are only intensified by his regeneration.
  • Kill and Replace: Because of how dangerous Guu has proven to be, Momonga decides the best choice is to just off him and replace him with another, more intelligent war troll that can keep the balance of the forest and keep the dragons beyond it out.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Not said to Guu himself, but when George hears that Guu conscripted goblins to be both soldiers and food, he considers the war troll to be just as bad as zombies since goblins are a sentient race that deserve basic human rights.
  • We Will Meet Again: Momonga's adventurer team was able to drive Guu off in their initial meeting, but he vowed to return the following night to destroy Carne Village.

    Jake Rowling

Jake Rowling

Stand: K-Rock

A member of the Sunlight Scripture seeking to redeem it following the arrest of Nigun.

His Stand, K-Rock, is named after the radio station K-Rock. It provides Jake immense terrakinetic powers, capable of controlling every grain of dust and sand in the air around him and create massive boulders.

  • Bait-and-Switch: He first comes off as an enemy sided with the Unity Faction. However, it soon becomes apparent that he opposes them as well, and soon agrees to a temporary team-up with the Joestar Faction.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: He briefly joins the heroes while they clear out the Marine Temple.
  • Redeeming Replacement: He aims to become this in order to restore the Sunlight Scripture after Nigun dragged its name through the mud.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: He's named after J. K. Rowling.

    Fluder Paradyne

Fluder Paradyne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fluder_anime.png

The Prime Wizard of the Baharuth Empire, and close confidant to Emperor Jircniv.

  • The Archmage: He possesses incredible magical ability, and desires to learn even more.
  • Collector of the Strange: He took possession of Baron Kelvin's still-living head to experiment with. At one point the Unity Faction managed to grab it for themselves.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: All the studying he's put into magic, Nfirea was able to accomplish and more simply by unlocking his Stand. Though Fluder isn't the least bit distraught by this, even seeking to learn from Nfirea.
  • Long-Lived: He's two-hundred years old by the time he's introduced into the story, old enough that he personally witnessed the brief moment Jonathan Joestar crossed into the alter verse.
  • Necromancer: His primary field of study is using this form of magic to create a labor force that never tires, in order to sustain the empire until skilled living workers can replace them.

    Jircniv Rune Farlord el Nix

Jircniv Rune Farlord el Nix

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jircniv_anime.png

The emperor of Baharuth, who seeks to reform his empire into an effective meritocracy.

  • The Conspiracy: Creates one with the Ainz Faction in order to counter the one created by the Unity Faction.
  • Genre Savvy: Once he understands the full scope of the Unity Faction's reach, he's easily able to peg Count Femel as a member.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: He may be a young emperor, but he's not naive. He knows full well that not everyone is grateful for his reformist laws. Especially since they elevate the working class and even peasantry that have notable skills overlooked in the previous regime, while many nobles wind up getting shafted due to being the Idle Rich.

    Baziwood Peshmel

Baziwood Peshmel

Stand: One Jump Ahead

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baziwood_peshmel.png

A former street rat who was elevated to imperial knight because of his exceptional combat ability.

His Stand, One Jump Ahead, is named after a song by Brad Kane. It lets him copy the abilities of whoever he is facing, including but not limited to physical strength, martial arts, talents, even Stands and Hamon.

  • Adaptive Ability: A temporary case, as his Stand will give any abilities necessary to match a singular foe that he's up against.
  • Didn't See That Coming: When facing the beastman Vijar his Stand does something unexpected... It turns him into a centaur in order to match Vijar's centaurian physiology. Baziwood admits he didn't know that was possible.
  • Loophole Abuse: Thanks to the mechanics of his Stand, he can copy the powers of other Stands.
  • Worthy Opponent: His Stand is designed to make him one for any enemy he faces. He also finds two (Gazef and Vijar), during the course of the story.

    Nimble Arc Dale Anoch

Nimble Arc Dale Anoch

Stand: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nimble_arc_dale_anoch.png

The second born of a baron of the empire and one of Jircniv's personal knights.

His Stand, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, is named after a song by The Platters. This Stand lets him exhale a special smoke from his mouth that can conceal a small group, preventing them from being seen and heard.

  • Breath Weapon: More a support weapon than anything, but Nimble's Stand is triggered by exhaling deeply.
  • Mundane Utility: While useful for combat, Nimble's Stand can also be used when you want to move about without being seen. Jircniv makes use of it to travel to Nazarick with a small retinue in the greatest of secret.
  • Non-Idle Rich: His father was able to maintain his position of nobility due to being very active in the merchant sector, showing he still had skills useful to the empire.

    Leinas Rockbruise

Leinas Rockbruise

Stand: Mystic Eyes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leinas_rockbruise.png

A former monster slayer who was given a position of imperial knight by Jircniv.

Her Stand, Mystic Eyes, is named after a song by Them. It takes the form of an artificial eye inserted within her right eye socket and lets her paralyze anyone she sees.

  • Abled in the Adaptation: She didn't suffer the curse that caused her right eye to constantly puss over like in canon.
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: She finds Brain to be more desirable than her current betrothed due to his exceptional combat skills.
  • Electronic Eyes: Her Stand takes the form of an artificial eye fused into her real eye.
  • Ship Tease: She actually finds herself attracted to Brain and flirts with him during their fight in the war.

    Calca Bessarez

Calca Bessarez

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calca_bessarez.png

The Holy Queen of Roble.

  • Love at First Sight: She immediately falls for Ulbert the second she lays eyes on him.
  • Official Couple: She soon takes Ulbert as a consort, the two having formed a genuine connection.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Just barely. Ulbert and Demiurge confronting Yaldabaoth and Buser prevented them from being able to properly kill her during a recent attack.

    Remedios Custodio

Remedios Custodio

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/remedios_custodio.png

A paladin of the Holy Kingdom. Not very bright, but very strong.

  • Dumb Muscle: She admits that she's only good for fighting.
  • Genre Savvy: She may be stupid, but she does immediately recognize when Calca and Ulbert fall in love and decides to give them some room.
  • Insane Troll Logic: She thinks that those who have Stands are weaklings who can't gain power any other way. Anyone who's seen JoJo knows that it takes a strong spirit to be able to control a Stand, meaning "weak" is the last thing you could call a Stand user (unless you happen to have a stronger Stand).

    Neia Baraja

Neia Baraja

Stand: Life Will Change

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neia_baraja_2.png

A female squire of Roble.

Her Stand, Life Will Change, is named after a song by Lyn Inaizumi. It takes the appearance of a customizable menu, through which Neia can direct how her levels and attributes are distributed with each level up.

  • Expy: Her Stand has been compared to a Dungeons & Dragons character sheet.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: She uses Life Will Change to remake her levels into a sacred archer.
  • Tears of Joy: She cries these when she learns that her Stand can help her get rid of her useless levels and rearrange them into more useful ones.

    Buser

Buser

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/buser.png

A general of the bafolk tribe of beastmen, he's tricked into starting a war with Roble as part of the Unity Faction's schemes.

  • Deliberately Bad Example: He's used to show just what happens when someone isn't able to overcome Ulbert's Stand the way George is.
  • I Reject Your Reality: Even when he's shown how powerful Stands can really be, he claims they're "cheating".
  • Don't Create a Martyr: After he's defeated by Ulbert, Roble returns him to his people alive but broken. This not only demoralizes them, it prevents Barbro and Yaldabaoth from using Buser's execution as a propaganda device.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: He's a Four-Star Badass with enough charisma to spur his people to fight even when they're getting slaughtered. In any other fantasy setting he'd be the perfect boss fight. But in a JoJo universe, he's nothing more than an Elite Mook.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: He was lucky that his first real fight against a Stand user is one who is designed to start off weak. But it's gone to his head and made him think all Stand users are weak.

Nazarick Residents

    Albedo

Albedo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/albedo_3.png

A succubus who heads the guardians of the tomb.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: She doesn't seem to have her canon counterpart's hatred for humans. She also doesn't harbor any desire to eliminate the other guild members.
  • The Dragon: The Ainz Faction are the ones in charge of Nazarick, with Albedo heading up the day to day.
  • Official Couple: At the very least, she and Momonga are shown to be sleeping together.

    Narberal Gamma

Narberal Gamma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/narberal_gamma_profile.png

A doppelganger and one of the warrior maids tasked with guarding the tomb. She accompanies several of the Ainz Faction under the guise of a fellow adventurer.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: She's not as dismissive of humans as she is in canon.
  • In-Series Nickname: When accompanying the adventurer team Nine's Own Goal, she shortens her name to Nabe.
  • Ship Tease: She seems to be more receptive to Lukeluthor's flitering, even comparing him to a beautiful beetle.

    Solution Epsilon

Solution Epsilon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solution_epsilon_profile.png

An attractive shoggoth and one of the warrior maids of the tomb. She plays the role of Herohero's wife while he's acting the part of merchant.

  • Everyone Has Standards: The state of Tuare's body sickens even her, and not just because all the disease soured her flesh.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: She's fully capable of consuming human flesh, especially if someone she doesn't like tries to get handsy.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's very gorgeous, both in her maid outfit and the dress she wears while acting as Herohero's wife.
  • Ship Tease: Though she's only playing the role of wife, there's clear signs she and Herohero fancy each other for real.

    Sebas Tian

Sebas Tian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sebas.png

A butler of the tomb, primarily acting as a servant of Herohero in his double life as Hiroshi Balba.

  • Berserk Button: He's normally soft-spoken, but seeing Tuare's unfortunate state enrages him.
  • Genre Savvy: He immediately picks up on the fact that Succulent's claim of being the owner of the brothel Tuare was forced to work at is a lie.
  • The Nose Knows: What first brings him into contact with Tuare is the scent of her blood after she had just been dumped outside the brothel she was forced to work at.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: While the heroes were busy defending the city, Sebas took the time to dismantle Six Arms in a manner identical to how he did in canon.
  • Ship Tease: He definitely has this with Tuare.
  • Younger Than They Look: Despite looking like a handsome old man, Sebas is actually in his twenties.

    Shalltear Bloodfallen

Shalltear Bloodfallen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shalltear_bloodfallen_profile.png

A vampire and one of the guardians of Nazarick.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: She gets temporarily controlled by Calling All the Monsters. And because its effects are instant, she doesn't get the luxury of killing the one trying to control her before she succumbs.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Every vampire up until her introduction was a creation of the stone mask, as per JoJo tradition. But Shalltear is actually a naturally-born vampire, showing that real vampires do exist in this series.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Brain's Stand improves his physical capabilities so much that Shalltear has to actively defend herself. Even then, Brain's able to slice her palm and draw blood, a feat that actually impresses her.
  • Off with His Head!: Her first kill in the story is a brigand leader that was more than eager to get hands-on. He not only got his hand off, he literally lost his head too. Shalltear doesn't mess around.

    Demiurge

Demiurge

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/demiurge_databook_01.png

A demon guardian who resides in Nazarick.

  • False Flag Operation: Heads one to make the Unity Faction believe a force of monsters, separate from the Ainz Faction, is searching for some unknown item, the idea being to cause confusion and hamper the Unity Faction while the Spirit Tracks are being restored.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: He immediately sees Yaldabaoth, a fellow demon, as an enemy for daring to question his choice in serving a human.
  • Number Two: Seems to be most subservient to Ulbert.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: He prefers not to take part in fights where he'd at best get a Pyrrhic Victory. He also doesn't like causing more suffering than necessary.
  • Spanner in the Works: His attack on Yaldabaoth for insulting his master prevents the assassination of the Holy Queen (which, ironically, is something he pulled off in canon).

    Cocytus

Cocytus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cocytus_databook_01.png

A giant insect who acts as a guardian of the tomb of Nazarick.

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: He's a giant humanoid insect, though very much intelligent and thus only dangerous to an enemy.
  • Genre Savvy: Remembering how Stagnox was exiled for supporting a chieftain that turned to cannibalism to feed his tribe in a time of famine, and how the Red Eye tribe somehow was able to solve their food crisis, Cocytus puts two and two together and suspects the Red Eye tribe had been convinced to turn to cannibalism.
  • Samurai: His carapace is designed after samurai armor, and he acts most subservient to Takemikazuchi, who himself has a samurai motif.

    Entoma Vasilissa Zeta

Entoma Vasilissa Zeta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/entomas_profile.png

A hive queen and warrior maid for Nazarick.

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: She specializes in entomancy, a type of magic that involves controlling various arthropods, especially insects.
  • Foreshadowing: The fact that she sends off her lip bug to prevent it from being destroyed by Gyro hints that Arche won't be dying in this story.
  • Genre Savvy: Once she realizes Gyro's Stand can decay whatever it hits, she removes her lip bug to protect it, since it's the only part of her disguise that can't be easily replaced.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: She's first seen munching on what's left of a member of Eight Fingers.
  • The Worm That Walks: She uses a variety of insects to at least pass for something human, including a beetle with markings similar to a face to cover her own.

Proto-Team Kujo

    Adimas

Adimas

Stand: Afronova Primeval

A Zande shaman who was meant to be part of Jolyne Kujo's team against Pucci prior to her arrest.

His Stand, Afronova Primeval, is named after a song by Naoki Maeda. Befitting a shaman, this Stand takes the form of a small fire that generates a column of smoke, within which are colored lights in the shape of animals. These sky paintings can then come to life and move according to Adimas's command, and are about as durable as their real-world counterparts.

  • Attack Animal: The living animal paintings that emerge from his Stand are one to one with their real-life counterparts, down to how durable they are.
  • Logical Weakness: Subverted. His Stand does take the form of a fire that can be doused with water, but he can simply will it back to life all over again.
  • Theme Naming: In keeping with the fashion-based naming convention of Stone Ocean, Adimas' name comes from the shoe company Adidas.
  • Witch Doctor: Though not Jamaican, he is a shaman, named as such because his tribe saw his Stand as mysticism.

    Kevin McKlein

Kevin McKlein

Stand: Brilliant 2U

A self-proclaimed All-American who was meant to be part of Jolyne's Kujo team against Pucci.

His Stand, Brilliant 2U, is named after a song by Naoki Maeda. Being housed in Kevin's hands, it gives him the ability to launch concussive energy bolts that explode upon impact.

  • Eagleland: A definite Type 1, claiming to have the blood of every race that ever immigrated to America, as well as most of the native tribes. This to him is the true definition of "All-American".
  • Nice Guy: He was first scouted by Rudy, working at a soup kitchen for the homeless. Kevin had stepped in to take care of some mobsters that were trying to muscle in while defending the regulars.
  • Theme Naming: Like most of the Stone Ocean cast, he's named after a clothing brand. In this case, Calvin Klein.

    Hugo Bocci

Hugo Bocci

Stand: Burning the Floor

A member of Spetsnaz, he was supposed to be part of Jolyne's team when she went up against Pucci.

His Stand, Burning the Floor, is named after the song "Burnin' the Floor" by Naoki Maeda. It is a pair of goggles that grants Hugo a Heads-Up Display, and makes him akin to a player character from the average first-person shooter. This includes (but is not limited to) radar sense, which lets him know the general location of his enemies, a health indicator, how much ammo he currently has, and a subspace pocket that lets him switch weapons on the fly, so long as they're part of his registered loadout. In addition to this, Hugo's Stand comes with a timer that begins at the start of combat, and once it runs out, all of his shots become explosive.

  • Having a Blast: Once his Stand is active for long enough, all his ammo turns incendiary (this doesn't affect ammo that's already explosive, such as rocket-powered grenades).
  • Heads-Up Display: His Stand gives him this sort of view, allowing him to keep track of multiple things on the battlefield.
  • Hammerspace: His Stand comes with a subspace pocket he can use to store all his weapons and swap them out as needed.
  • Mother Russia Makes You Strong: He's considered a Russian superman, a soldier at his physical peak. All this on top of being a skilled Stand user.
  • Theme Naming: In keeping with Stone Ocean naming conventions, his name comes from fashion company Hugo Boss.

    Raphaela Lorenzi

Raphaela Lorenzi

Stand: Dive

An Italian pop star, and one of the would-be members of what would have been Jolyne's team if not for Pucci's interference.

Her Stand, Dive, is named after a song by BeForU. With it, Raphaela is able to phase through solid objects.

    Lewis Votten

Lewis Votten

Stand: Dynamite Rave

An Australian miner who was hired to help Jolyne when it came time for her to fight against Pucci. Too bad Pucci struck earlier than expected.

His Stand, Dynamite Rave, is named after a song by Naoki Maeda. It can project a seismic sense that can pinpoint valuable minerals and oil, and once something is targeted, Lewis can then use his Stand to create a series of explosions to reach it, with him having complete control over what gets affected by the explosions. He can also manipulate the blast waves for a variety of effects, such as knocking enemies aside or launching himself into the air.

  • Mundane Utility: When not fighting supernatural threats, Lewis uses his Stand to carry on his family's coal mining industry.
  • Strange-Syntax Speaker: Once he's freed from Kelvin's spore, he immediately speaks in standard Australian slang, confusing the alter verse denizens. Luckily, George is able to translate.
  • The Leader: Acts as this for the team since they never got the chance to team up with Jolyne.
  • Theme Naming: Like with the rest of the gang, Lewis shared a naming convention from Stone Ocean. In his case, he's named after fashion brand Louis Vuitton.

    Kuwa Taiki

Kuwa Taiki

Stand: Look to the Sky

A Japanese wrestler who is part of the Rumble Roses league. She was supposed to be part of Jolyne's team when destiny came for her.

Her Stand, Look to the Sky, is named after a song by System S.F. It possesses the same physical strength as Taiki and can merge with her, essentially doubling her physical abilities. Additionally, it can conjure spirit ropes for grappling attacks on the chance she's not fighting within a wrestling ring, as well as act as a tag-team partner if needed.

  • Bilingual Bonus: The translation of her first and last name reveals her Theme Naming based on Stone Ocean naming conventions, with "kuwa" meaning "mulberry", and "taiki" meaning "atmosphere".
  • Fighting from the Inside: Like the rest of her team, Kuwa was infected by a spore from the vampire Baron Kelvin. The whole time she was fighting its influence, leaving her not at her best when she faces Gagaran.
  • Made of Iron: Gagaran power bombs her into solid stone pavement, and all it does is knock her out with no major injuries.
  • Shout-Out: From her Stand name to the league she works for, Kuwa is pretty much based on several traits from Rumble Roses.

Flashback Characters

    Sebastian Michaelis

Sebastian Michaelis

Stand: Time in a Bottle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sebastian_michaelis_film.png

Speedwagon's personal butler following his recent fortune in oil.

His Stand, Time in a Bottle, is named after a song by Jim Croce. It slows down Sebastian's perception of time while simultaneously enhancing his reflexes.

  • Adaptational Species Change: He's still one hell of a butler, but he's not a demon in this story. Instead he's a human being, though he does possess a Stand.
  • Battle Butler: Sebastian is as much a bodyguard as he is a butler, and with his Stand, he can easily stop most assassination attempts.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Inverted. His only gripe with serving Speedwagon is that he's not allowed to do everything. Speedwagon does a lot of things for himself, which exasperates Sebastian, especially since this is his first job as a butler.
  • Bullet Catch: His Stand increases his perception and reflexes to the point where he can catch anything, from using a glass to catch falling liquid to even catching bullets fired from automatic rifles.
  • Foreshadowing: Him having a Stand actually hints that all of Speedwagon's servants have Stands.
  • Redundant Rescue: As impressive as it was that Sebastian was able to stop Baron Reinfelt's first assassination attempt, Twilight proves shortly afterward that she could have reflected the shot herself.

    Mey-Rin

Mey-Rin

Stand: Shot Through the Heart

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mey_rin_film.png

The Speedwagon estate's loyal maid. A bubbly and cheerful young girl.

Her Stand, Shot Through the Heart, is named after a song by Bon Jovi. It takes the appearance of a pair of glasses, and with it, Mey-Rin's sight is improved tremendously, allowing her to see for miles, even in darkness.

  • Abled in the Adaptation: It's implied that her sight is a lot more normal than it is in canon, as her Stand is actually the glasses she wears.
  • Adaptational Skill: Apparently she can see a lot better than canon, as she's able to perform her duties without any sort of mishap.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: She's normally a cheerful and friendly sort... Until either the Speedwagon or Joestar estates come under attack.
  • Ship Tease: She has a crush on Sebastian, though there's no indication on whether he reciprocates.

    Finnian

Finnian

Stand: Drop the Bomb

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/finnian_film.png

The gardener of the Speedwagon estate. A bright and cheerful lad.

His Stand, Drop the Bomb, is named after the song "Drop the Bomb On 'em" by Eminem. This Stands lets Finny build up kinetic energy in his hands, which can then either be unleashed as explosive shockwaves, or be transferred to inanimate objects, essentially turning them into explosives. The latter option also results in the objects becoming light enough to where they can be lifted and thrown with little effort due to the kinetic energy putting them in constant motion.

    Baldroy

Baldroy

Stand: This is War

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baldroy_film.png

The head chef at the Speedwagon estate, and a war veteran.

His Stand, This is War, is named after a song by Thirty Seconds to Mars. It provides Bard with all the knowledge he needs to perfectly operate a weapon with just a touch, even ones that normally require more than one person.

  • Adaptational Skill: He's much better at cooking than canon. The only time the kitchen explodes under his watch is during the time he's defending the estate from Baron Kelvin's goons.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He's known as "Bard" around the estate.
  • Gatling Good: He uses a Gatling gun to pin down the last two attackers trying to storm the Joestar estate.
  • Master of All: With his Stand, any weapon he lays his hands on he can instantly master. This makes him a potent soldier and bodyguard.
  • One-Man Army: His Stand even lets him man crew-served weapons all on his own.

    Joker

Joker

Stand: Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/joker_film.png

The ringmaster of the Noah's Ark Circus during the late 1800s.

His Stand, Winkin' Blinkin' and Nod, is named after a song by The Simon Sisters. With this Stand, Joker can instantly put anyone he wants to sleep. Anyone affected by this Stand is prevented from being attacked or woken up by anyone unless Joker gives them permission first.

  • Adaptational Heroism: He actually works to undermine Baron Kelvin's schemes, using his Stand to protect the children with a dreamless sleep that cannot be forcibly undone, nor can they be harmed while they slumber.
  • Artificial Limbs: Like canon, his right arm is a bone-based prosthetic.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. He has the same alias that Ren Amamiya would take decades later when he became a Phantom Thief.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He's able to live past the end of the flashback.

    Doll

Doll

Stand: Rewind

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doll_full_body.png

A tightrope walker in the Noah's Arc Circus. She's also known as Freckles.

Her Stand, Rewind, is named after a song by Rascal Flatts. With just a touch, Doll can revert an object back to a previous state, effectively repairing it if the object is either broken or damaged.

  • The Mole: She acts as this among the second-tier circus workers. They know her as Freckles and are aware she's a Stand user, relying on her ability to rewind an object's personal history to act as cleanup for their unsavory jobs.
  • Ship Tease: She does some light teasing of Finny when he briefly mistakes her as a boy dressing as a girl, letting him get a handful to prove she's a woman and offering to let him peak under her skirt.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: She successfully lives throughout the story.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Not when she's dressed in her circus outfit, but when acting the role of "Freckles," the second-tiers easily mistake her for a boy.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Despite dressing like a pure white doll, Doll's voice is actually cockney.

    Beast

Beast

Stand: She Wolf

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beast_film.png

The beast tamer of the Noah's Ark Circus.

Her Stand, She Wolf, is named after a song by Shakira. It gives her the ability to transform into a humanoid wolf, giving her an increase in strength, speed, and agility. She also retains her human intelligence, which doesn't interfere with her newfound wolf instincts, making her a deadly hunter and fighter.

  • Always Someone Better: The second-tier animal tamer tries to attack her using his whip, only for her to catch it easily, making her the superior tamer. As she puts it, she knows her way around whips.
  • Artificial Limbs: Her left leg is actually a bone-based prosthetic. Erina notes that it's so smooth, it almost feels like real flesh.
  • Growing Muscles Sequence: Her Stand triggering a lycanthropic change in her is portrayed as this rather than Body Horror, making it come off as an awesome moment.
  • Magic Pants: Her entire outfit expands to fit her when she triggers her Stand.
  • Required Secondary Powers: She maintains her intelligence when she wolfs out, allowing her to tell friend from foe and avoid going on a dangerous rampage.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Her tragic ending from canon never occurs in this story.

    Dagger

Dagger

Stand: Digital Daggers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dagger_film.png

The Noah's Ark Circus' knife thrower.

His Stand, Digital Daggers, is named after the contemporary duo Digital Daggers. Taking the form of his gloves, it allows Dagger the ability to create an infinite number of throwing knives that are guaranteed to be sharp.

  • Anachronism Stew: Averted. The term "digital" didn't always apply to computers. After all, there's a reason fingers are sometimes called "digits". "Digital" can refer to anything numerical.
  • Bottomless Magazines: A variation. Dagger's Stand lets him conjure an infinite number of knives to toss at his enemies.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Unlike canon, he never winds up dead in this story.

    Jumbo

Jumbo

Stand: King Ink

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jumbo_film.png

A fire eater and tattooed man who works in the Noah's Ark Circus.

His Stand, King Ink, is named after a song by The Birthday Party. It is infused into the very ink used to make Jumbo's tattoos. Once activated, the tattoos begin to glow, and the animals they depict come to life as three-dimensional ink-based images that Jumbo can control.

  • Attack Animal: His Stand is able to summon these from the tattoos on his body.
  • Playing with Fire: Naturally as a fire eater, Jumbo can make use of his talents for combat.
  • Power Glows: His tattoos glow when his Stand activates, a sign that the animals imprinted on his body are about to emerge.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Like the rest of the crew, he survives through the entire flashback story.

    Peter & Wendy

Peter & Wendy

Stands: Wires (Peter), Gravity (Wendy)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/peter_and_wendy_film.png

A pair of trapeze artists with the Noah's Ark Circus.

Peter's Stand, Wires, is named after a song by The Neighbourhood. It lets him conjure super strong wires from his fingertips.

Wendy's Stand, Gravity, is named after a song by Hollywood Undead. With this Stand, Wendy is able to lower the force of gravity on both herself and anything she is touching, allowing her to leap high and lift heavy objects with ease.

  • Battle Couple: The two are always together and their Stands are fully capable of working in tandem.
  • The Dividual: They're never seen apart, and their Stands perfectly compliment each other.
  • Loophole Abuse: Wendy's Stand lowers the gravity of whatever she's touching. But there's no definition of what she has to touch or how she has to touch it, so she can lower Peter's gravity by wrapping one of the wires from his Stand around her bare wrist.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Like the rest of the Noah's Ark crew, they survive to the end of the story.

    Dr. Victor Frankenstein

Dr. Victor Frankenstein

Stand: Dr. Feelgood

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doctor_4.png

The well-known Mary Shelley character himself, though his background in this story is very much different from the novel.

His Stand, Dr. Feelgood, is named after a song by Mötley Crüe. It allows him to alter biological matter on the cellular level, allowing for many things such as minor growth to allow a perfect fit for prosthetics, or to ensure that organ transplants aren't rejected. It's also good for corrective surgery since it can painlessly remove and rearrange or alter body parts as needed.

  • Adaptational Heroism: He was far more accepting of his creation, Adam Frankenstein, and considers him a son.
  • Connected All Along: Remember how Enya showed that her deformed left hand was corrected with a special surgery? Well Frankenstein turned out to be the surgeon she went to.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He's still very much the quintessential Mad Scientist, but he does have standards and morals. He considers it highly unethical to experiment on children's bodies, and as such derides Baron Kelvin's desire that he do so.
  • Public Domain Character: The Victor Frankenstein from the Mary Shelley novel of the same name, now inserted into the bizarre world of JoJo. He even has his own Stand.
  • Super Doc: With the help of his Stand, he can perform just about any sort of surgery, even correcting birth defects.

    Baron Kelvin

Baron Kelvin

Stand: Two Worlds Collide

A stone mask vampire who tried to conscript Joker's friends into his experiments into undeath.

His Stand, Two Worlds Collide, is named after a song by Demi Lovato. It connects to the ley lines of the world, syncing Kelvin with their energy and allowing him to open portals to an alter verse, a pocket dimension that rests between the current reality and the closest parallel reality.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Unlike his canon self, he's far more young-looking due to using the stone mask.
  • Arc Villain: Of the flashback chapters, only facing Jonathan Joestar and not his great-grandson George Joestar III.
  • Call-Back: When Jonathan unleashes his Hamon upon Kelvin, he manages to save himself by removing his head, the same way Dio did prior to becoming DIO. This clues Jonathan in that Dio might not be dead after all.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Fluder points out to Jonathan that killing Kelvin while still in the alter verse could strand him there.
  • Evil Counterpart: Can be seen as one to Funny Valentine, since they can both traverse dimensions. The only difference is Valentine can travel the entire multiverse and bring whatever he wants with him, while Kelvin can only travel to the alter verse and back by manipulating the planet's natural ley lines.
  • Fate Worse than Death: He's stuck as a still living head sealed in such a way that he can only get blood through a special pump system. And unlike DIO, he's not likely to be getting a new body anytime soon. Heck, much like Kars, it doesn't seem like he can even properly think anymore.
  • Pet the Dog: When he realizes his scheme to employ Joker and the other first-tier performers, they soon found out their orphanage was closed down, removing the only thing justifying helping him. Despite this, he tells them they no longer have to do everything he says, but still keeps up his end of the deal by giving them a home and the means to maintain their prosthetics.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He may only be a one-chapter villain, but his actions have had serious consequences matched only by DIO and Kars. He was the one who sold the stone mask to the Joestars, the one who hired Nemesis Sudo to steal Nathaniel Twilight's Stand arrow and bring about his death in the process, and he later sold that arrow to Adolf Hitler's father, allowing it to eventually fall into the hands of the Nazis. Finally, his still-living head is ultimately stolen by the Unity Faction and put to use for their own plans.
