The Just Us League

    General
  • Super Team: They are a group of superheroes who exist in the world of the comic, including a mantid-themed Batman expy, a grease-powered speedster, and a man whose eyes open to a dimension filled with meat, among others. They're rather picky about who they'll let be part of the team.
Omegaman: We few are all that stand between the world and total obliteration. Just us. Which is why we are called the Just Us League.

    Omegaman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_1omegaman.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ken_clarke.png
Ken Clarke, while in his youth, encountered a mysterious energy called the Omega Force, which gave him superpowers but radically altered his body. He started out as Kid Omega but eventually renamed himself to Omegaman, the comic's greatest hero!

  • Badass Boast: When Miss Mantis tries to stop him from taking Izzy into custody by using his weakness.
Alphasite makes me dizzy, nauseous, tired. But a hero can withstand that. And I am a hero. It doesn't matter how much prep time you get. You can't prepare for Superman.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: His powers derive from the Omega Force, which is described as "The Death that is Life." Despite that, he is The Paragon in the comic.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: He has this dynamic with Miss Mantis as seen in "Miss Mantis Vs. Omegaman." This finally ends when Omegaman plants a Big Damn Kiss on her in "Miss Mantis + Omegaman."
  • Big Damn Heroes: He returns to the comic by punching out Florida Man during Izzy, Hashim and Darcy's battle with him in "Last Stand".
  • The Bus Came Back: After "Mother Box", Omegaman was absent throughout the latter half of Vol. 6 before returning to help Izzy fend off against Florida Man in Last Stand
  • Clark Kenting: His secret identity is a newspaper reporter. However, he makes little effort on trying to distinguish himself between his superhero self and his alter ego (on account of his black and white costume covering his whole body, including his face) so everyone clearly knows he is just Omegaman wearing a suit and glasses. The only one who is completely fooled is Doctor Bald, naturally.
  • Depower: Omegaman gathers up all his Omega Force energy to deliver a power blast against Doctor Bald's Kaiju, but he ends up losing his powers as a result. However, the final right panel in "Mother Box" reveals that his powers may be returning sooner than imagined. Indeed, when he appears in Part 2, his powers are fully restored.
  • Hero Antagonist: When Izzy invades Florida, he vows to stop her in the name of justice, even when it's clear that he's the only one who really cares about the invasion. He only stops after the "Miss Mantis Vs. Omegaman" arc, and returns to being her ally afterwards.
  • My Greatest Failure: Omegaman failed to solve the case of the woman who drove her twin girls into the sea, and has been haunted by that failure for all of his career. When he learns that Izzy was one of those girls, he does not take it well.
  • Nightmare Face: When he finally unmasks, it's a very unsettling sight as his body appears to be a hollow shell filled with the black and white energy he uses for his powers.
  • The Paragon: Despite his otherwise terrifying abilities and appearance, Omegaman is the cloest thing the comic has to a truly good, heroic person.
  • Superman Substitute: In fact, he explicitly sees Superman as an inspiration for his own superheroics. He also has his own version of kyrptonite (a material called Alphasite), and after being depowered, his hair is revealed to be black with a prominent curled lock in front. In part 2, it's revealed he has a teenaged cousin named Brittany, like Superman's own cousin Kara Zor-El... but also has shades of Bruce Banner's cousin Jennifer Walters.

    Miss Mantis and Scarab

Miss Mantis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_1rsz_mantis.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ruth_cartwright.png
Ruth Cartwright, heiress to a vast fortune, saw her parents get beheaded by a random mugger when she was a young girl. Ever since that day, she developed a fixation on neck meat and uses it on all criminals. By night, she is Miss Mantis!

  • Anti-Hero: Since female mantis are known for decapitating their partners for food, it makes sense that she has no qualms about killing criminals as part of her mantid motif.
  • Batman Parody: She's like Batman if he had an obsession with decapitating people.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: She has this dynamic with Omegaman as seen in "Miss Mantis Vs. Omegaman." This finally ends when Miss Mantis receives a Big Damn Kiss from him in "Miss Mantis + Omegaman."
  • Off with His Head!: Her preferred method of dealing with her enemies.

Scarab I/Galiath

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_robin.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robin_redman.png
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Click to see her as Galiath (SPOILER WARNING)
Robin Redman was a young acrobat whose parents were killed in a trapeze "accident." After solving their murder, she was taken in by wealthy heiress Ruth Cartwright and eventually became Miss Mantis' sidekick, Scarab!

However, all kids got to grow up sometime... When Robin Redman starts high school, she decides to break away from the role of "sidekick" and become her own hero, ready to help out any student that needs her. Don't ever call her "Scarab"! Call her.... Galiath!
  • Batman Parody: In case her real name didn't give it away, she's the Robin to Miss Mantis's Batman, with her origin story specifically being based on Dick Grayson. She even develops her own superhero identity, Galiath, when she gets older much like how Dick became Nightwing. It's later revealed she leads her own teen hero team similar to the Teen Titans called "Teen Spirit".
  • Deadpan Snarker: She serves a witty, snarky foil to the otherwise serious Miss Mantis.
  • Happily Adopted: Robin ends up being taken in by Ruth at the end of "Curtain Call."
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Unlike Miss Mantis, Scarab doesn't seem to believe in killing her enemies. For example, she stops her from decapitating the ringmaster (who was the real killer of her parents), telling her she'd rather have him face the consequences of his actions and go to prison.

Scarab II

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scarab_ii.png
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scarab_ii_no_costume.png
Ever since Robin Redman left the life of a kid sidekick behind, Miss Mantis was in need of a new partner lest she start going insane. However, as she was leaving an important gala, she comes across a wayward girl attempting to sell her "candy". Wanting to keep this young girl away from a life of crime, Miss Mantis took in the child and christened her as... the new Scarab!
  • Batman Parody: She's clearly meant to be based on Jason Todd. In fact, this Scarab's origin is slightly similar to the Post-Crisis version of Jason (albeit there, Jason was trying to steal the tires to the Batmobile, not sell crack.)
  • Deadpan Snarker: Arguably moreso than Robin was when she was Scarab.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's got bright orange-colored hair and a harsh, snarky attitude to match.

    Other Members
In addition to Omegaman, Miss Mantis and Scarab, the Just Us League includes Greased Lightning, The Chlorinator, Leonard, Mudman, Eclipse, Aperture Girl, Kid Galactic, Tiga, Home-Lass, Legion, Hourglass and... Meatclops.

Fishgirls

    General
  • Cute Monster Girl: They are a race of very attractive, alluring female Fish People who like to find human males to mate with.
  • Cypher Language: Their language is a system of odd squiggles and symbols which was eventually translated by the fans, and now is translated on the comic's site.
  • Fish People: They are a race of aquatic humanoids who can breathe on land, but only for at least 6 hours at a time and will die of dehydration if they stay longer. Likewise, any "chimera" (see Half-Human Hybrid for the explanation on that), when they hatch after a year, cannot breathe underwater due to their conflicting biologies.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Many fishgirls are technically this due to needing human males to mate with. However, some are more human than others (like Ally, who's half-human/half-alligator). As explained by Flamingo Joe, they are called "chimeras", fishgirls who have more human attributes but it doesn't perfectly mix with their fish biology (i.e. being unable to breathe underwater once they hatch from their roe). The reason being that they were malformed during their gestation.
  • Hidden Elf Village: Originally, the fishgirls kept themselves hidden from humanity (whom they view as "difficult to interact with") unless it was necessary not to (i.e. finding a mate to produce a child). However, ever since Izzy's various encounters with Red Snapper and her mother dating back to her childhood, they had decided to start a alliance between their kingdom and Key Manati to build toward a more open relationship with the land people.
  • Lady Land: Their undersea kingdom's population is mainly female, is ruled by a single queen and there are no fishmen in sight. In fact, it seems common for the fishgirls to search out and seduce human males in order to produce offspring (like Ally's mother did).
  • Language Equals Thought: Most fishgirls are based on obligate carnivores and thus lack a word for "sweetness" in their language.
  • Magic Kiss: An ability of theirs, which allows a normal human to be able to breathe underwater. This comes in handy for Red Snapper's mother when she brings Izzy and Addy back to land.
  • Matriarchy: They are an all-female race that comprise of matrillineal families that carry different aspects of various aquatic animals and are ruled by a queen-mother.
  • No Fathers Allowed: Due to the fact that they can only stay on land for a few hours at a time, long term relationships with human men are pretty much non-existent. The only exceptions that we see are either chimeras that are stuck on land anyways or used magic to turn themselves human.
  • One-Gender Race: Kind of obvious given their species name, but there are definitely no fish men anywhere. Hence, in order to reproduce, they find and seduce human men.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: They do not resemble your typical merpeople; they are less "human at the top and fish on the bottom" and more like humanoid versions of various aquatic life (like alligators and jellyfish), though how human-like they are (i.e. having legs) can vary between them.

Specific Fishgirls

    Red Snapper
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/red_snapper.png
Click to see her in her youth
A Northern red snapper fishgirl who has a mysterious, special connection to Izzy.
  • Benevolent Monsters: She is always around to secretly help Izzy through tight spots: she brought Izzy to safety after her crazed pilot shoved her off a cliff and left food for her and her friends while they were stranded. Years earlier, she and her mother saw the car her and Addy were trapped in and freed them, sending them back to land.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She is a fishgirl, after all.

    Red Snapper's Mother
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/red_snapper_mother.png
Click to see her in her youth
An older Northern red snapper fishgirl who is, obviously, Red Snapper's mother.

    Queen-Mother Theodora
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_theodora.png
A gigantic coelacanth fishgirl and queen of the entire underwater kingdom.

  • The Catfish: She resembles one (minus the whiskers) and is defintely the biggest of all the fishgirls introduced so far (ex. when she first appears in "Elder", she is clearly much taller than Izzy). However, Word of God states that Theodora is not based on a catfish, but a coelacanth, a rare specimen of fish.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: She's the closest of the fishgirls to resemble a typical mermaid, having one big tailfin instead of legs. That said, she is still very much a humanoid fishperson.
  • The High Queen: She seems to be a fair ruler and very much wishes to start a new union between her people and humanity, based on accounts she heard from Red Snapper and her mother.

    Manta and Seabass
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ennui_go_manta_9.png
Manta
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ennui_go_pirahna_8.png
Seabass
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
A pair of young fishgirls.
  • She's All Grown Up: When Manta and Seabass both re-appear in Part 2, they both appear much more mature and shapely than before.
  • Those Two Girls: They are close friends and are always seen hanging out together.

    The Jellyfish Girl
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_jellygirl.png
A mindless fishgirl that resembles a jellyfish. She is the target of Captain Orca's vendetta in Vols. 3 and 4.

  • Animalistic Abomination: Downplayed, but she is the closest thing to this trope among the other fishgirls. As described by Queen-Mother Theodora, she is comprised of many different, tiny creatures, can regenerate from injury and her tentacles can send people to catatonia. She has no nervous system, no brain and no heart and eats the flesh of other creatures, including humans.
  • Benevolent Monsters: She ends up saving Captain Orca from getting his hand crushed by a boulder by the end of Vol. 4, a stark reversal from their encounter years ago.
  • I Am a Humanitarian: She generally eats the flesh of other dead creatures, but she also has a particular taste for human flesh. Captain Orca found that out in the worst way possible. She also attacks Noah but is chased off before she can do more than wound his arm.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: What the Jellyfish Girl really turns out to be. As explained by the Queen-Mother, she doesn't have a brain and acts purely on animal instinct. Thus, she couldn't really understand a young Captain Orca's cries for help and his pleas to not eat the bodies of his crew. But even after learning that, Orca doesn't care. Also, when she finally shows up in the present, it's revealed that she's pregnant. The moment she and Orca come to blows, it is implied that she is trying to protect herself and her unborn child.
  • Monster Is a Mommy: Judging by the way her belly is shaped when she and Captain Orca fight again, she became pregnant at some point. The question, of course, is how she became pregnant.

    Callie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/callie_5.png
A rough-talking delinquent chimera who is a student in Max's class.
  • Berserk Button: Callie doesn't take kindly to those who laugh about her crush on Basil or anyone blurting out the fact she's a princess and a chimera.
  • Give Geeks a Chance: She's in love with Basil and the "I Don't Want to Wait" arc is about her coming to Max and his friends for help in showing him how she feels.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She is a chimera much like Ally, which could be the reason she was exiled according to Bee.
  • Japanese Delinquents: She definitely dresses the part, wearing a surgical facemask, draping a jacket over her shoulders and a partially buttoned top. She's also not afraid to beat up anyone who shows her attitude.
  • Rebellious Princess: In "Princess" Bee reveals that she's a princess exiled from the fishgirl kingdom, with the cast page confirming that she's the daughter of Queen-Mother Theodora. "Lost and Found" further reveals that, based on her reaction to Manta and Seabass bowing to her and promising to find a way to bring back underwater, she has no intention on ever returning to her kingdom.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In "Teen Spirit", she is dragged by Robin into joining her team "Teen Spirit" simply because, as a fishgirl, she is capable of doing magic. She only sticks around due to Basil's encouragement.... that is, until the team fights Brittany. She decides to leave with Basil because she "ain't in the mood to get [her] ass beat by a radioactive Stacey".
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She has feelings for the nerdy homeschool kid, Basil, much to Max's amusement; Kamiyama assinged him as her English tutor to help her improve her grades. She was impressed by Basil's kind, encouraging attitude toward her. The fact that he has pretty blue eyes when his glasses are off only solidified her crush on him.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: She's noticably got a couple inches on Basil, who mostly reaches her chest.

Enemies

    General
  • Affably Evil: Often a shared characteristic among these guys, most notably Captain Orca and Florida Man.
  • Arc Villain: With the exception of Doctor Bald, all the bad guys here spend at least 1 volume being the focal antagonist before being defeated by the main cast.
    • In part one, Asher was the main villain for volume 1, then Venus for volume 2, Captain Orca for volumes 3 and 4 and Florida Man for volumes 5 and 6.
    • In part two, Cronus and Xierdra, Calixta's parents, were the main villains for volume 8.
  • Freudian Excuse: With the exceptions of Doctor Bald, Asher and Florida Man to a lesser extent, most of Izzy's foes have a sympathetic, tragic backstory that helped form them into the people they are today.
    • Venus was the unforunate victim of getting whale cum splashed on her face by Izzy. The exposure caused an extreme allergic reaction, leaving her face horribly scarred and her left eye blinded. She wanted to advance her political career and become a senator (maybe even become president as well), but the incident and resulting fallout caused her prospects to dwindle, leaving her stuck as a DA. The worse part of that for her? Izzy never knew nor bothered to apologize for it, leaving Venus with a burning hatred and a desire to ruin her life like she ruined hers.
    • When Captain Orca was younger, he was shipwrecked on a deserted island after a terrible storm. He was also the sole survivor of the wreck as his father, who was the captain, and the rest of the crew had died with their bodies floating in front of Orca. To make matters worse, his leg was caught in an anchor. However, after spending God knows how long trapped, salvation came when he came upon the Jellyfish Girl. Or so he thought. Due to having no brain, she could not understand his pleas for help. And then she proceeded to eat the corpses of the crew while Orca was forced to watch...for 15 days! (not helping matters is that fact Orca's father was one of the bodies she ate) Then, when it looked like she was coming after him next, Orca chopped off his own left leg. After going through such an ordeal, it's no wonder Orca wants to kill the Jellyfish Girl through any means necessary.
      • There's also his first mate Ally, who is the chimera child of an alligator fishgirl. Due to being born with an inability to breathe water (hence risking death from drowning if she hatched from her roe), her mother was forced to leave her behind in the surface world to be raised by swamp alligators since she herself would die of dehydration if she stayed on land for too long. She spent many years alone in the swamps until Orca found her.
    • Even if it's questionable whether it's true or not, one of Florida Man's possible backstories make it seem like a plausible reason why the insane immortal became such a hedonist and a Death Seeker. He was once Ponce de Leon, a Spanish explorer looking for the Fountain of Youth, drink from it's waters and gain immortality. However, he brought along his wife, who was stricken by illness and was growing steadily worse as the quest went on. When he finally found the fountain, he tried desperately to get her to drink from it under the hope it would cure her, but she had already passed on, leaving him both forever young and alone.

    Doctor Bald
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drbald.png
Doctor Bald is the closest the comic has to a recurring villain. Archenemy to Omegaman and an occasional thorn in Izzy's side, he is your typical Mad Scientist whose main goal is to Take Over the World. However, as most people who know him will tell you, he is very, very bad at being a villain.

  • Bald of Evil: Right there in the name!
  • Clone Angst: Mostly averted. The only one bummed out is Dr. Bald and that's because his clones never turn out right. The one time he got a successful clone of Izzy, she turned out to be the complete antithesis of Izzy and has been more or less adopted by Izzy and Adelie. Also, Dr. Bald's first attempts at cloning resulted in 70% of them being Indian. He doesn't know why.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Noah constantly tells him that his many experiments and inventions can serve a more practical purpose, but Doctor Bald never has any idea of why he should.
  • Ditzy Genius: He sometimes sucessfully creates brilliant and sometimes dangerous experiments for the stupidest of reasons.
Doctor Bald: Nerds the world over will join the army of Doctor Bald just to hold hands with the most perfect waifu the world has ever seen!
Izzy: That's all you're gonna do with it?
Doctor Bald: What other use could there be?! A HAHAHAHAHA HA HAAAAAA!
  • Friendly Enemy: He and Omegaman apparently share this dynamic from time to time, most notably during the Halloween party.
  • Harmless Villain: He is this for the most part, to the point where his own archnemesis Omegaman goes to his Halloween party. One of his own colleagues even says that he's an amazing scientist but a horrible villain at the same party, explaining why he's at the party. His track record with his events confirms this.
  • Mad Scientist: Complete with a lab coat, a hidden lab, hammy attitude and Evil Laugh.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Despite his incompetence, he does have moments where he geninuely becomes a threat, like the time he made a (semi-)successful clone of Izzy in Vol. 2 and created a nuclear-powered fishgirl Kaiju that nearly destroyed Key Manati in Vol. 6. It's somewhat mitigated in that he either didn't really intend for his experiments to threaten the main characters (see Ditzy Genius above for the giant fishgirl example) or they get stolen by a more competent enemy (like Venus kidnapping Kirsty and making her testify in the trial and Florida Man finding the remaining nuclear waste to create his bomb.)
  • They Just Dont Get It: It's something a running gag with him. For example, when the doctor bemoans that he won't make money from his failed "Frankenhooker" experiment, Noah points out to him that he invented reanimation, which he could easily have monetized. Dr. Bald doesn't get how people could want their departed ones turned into hookers. Noah insists that he doesn't HAVE to turn them into hookers.
    Dr. Bald: I don't follow.

Part One

    Asher
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2020_07_25_at_104438_pm.png
Click to see him in Vol. 2
The Big Bad of volume one, Asher was Izzy's original artist for her video game, "Pro Ass Fishing." However, his mood swings and murderous tendencies finally cost him his job, driving him to kidnap and attempt to kill his former boss.

  • An Arm and a Leg: When Venus and her cohorts attack Izzy and the gang in Izzy's building, an especially enraged Noah chops off Asher's left arm with his own cleaver after he shoots Izzy.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's a vicious psychopath who will snap at the slightest provocation. It's telling that his response to Izzy suggesting he make one change to an animation is to try and skewer her with a broken beer bottle. He eventually kidnapped Izzy and tried to murder her after being fired as her artist, then hooked up with Venus and her minions to try it again.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Putting aside the fact that he's a violent Serial Killer, he has a great work ethic. Izzy is even willing to act as his reference when he gets a new job in "Reference" despite him having attempted to kill her on several occasions.
  • The Bus Came Back: He did not appear again after the end of Vol. 1 until "Hazard Again" in Vol. 2, revealing that he was now working for Venus, the Big Bad of that volume.
  • Commuting on a Bus: He made sporadic appearances after Vol. 2, showing that he had started becoming more of a career criminal when he moved to Key Manati. Later on, he appears in "Those Guys", this time in prison where he stabs an inmate to death when he was about to tell Asher news about Izzy.
  • Cyborg: When he returns by the end of Vol. 2, it's revealed that he received a cybernetic face plate after getting half his face cleaved by Izzy. He eventually gets a robotic arm after Noah chops his original arm off.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Virtually anything, even as small as, say, being told by your boss to make a single change in a game's animation, can drive Asher into a bloodthirsty, psychotic rage.
  • Hate Sink: Unlike later villains, who have a Freudian Excuse and go through some kind of Heel–Face Turn, Asher is a completely unsympathetic character—an unrepentant psychotic murderer who'll gleefully kill someone who sets him off even slightly and do so in the most gruesome, painful ways if he wants to.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: Asher hates humanity in general, but it's specifically women he seems to hate the most, especially Izzy.
Asher: Of all the wheezing female holes that have the audacity to call themselves human, you [Izzy] are the most worthless pieces of meat I've ever seen.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: His disfigurements have both been the result of having his own weapons used against him.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: To Asher, humans are just "sacks of filth and disease" and thus deserve to die by his hand.
  • Put on a Bus: He has yet to show up in Part 2, having been last seen attending Izzy, Darcy and Tanya's wedding in Part 1.
  • Serial Killer: This is, unsurprisingly, his side hustle outside of being a game artist; he tells Izzy that he killed 48 people before attempting to murder her.
  • Slasher Smile: He loves to give a leering, sadistic smile to his victims before he kills them.
  • Two-Faced: In an attempt to escape Asher, Izzy grabs his cleaver and slices off the left half of his face, including that eye and ear.
  • Ultimate Job Security: Despite being a flat-out psychotic Serial Killer, his talents as a game animator were apparently good enough to keep him employed. Finally subverted in the "Hazard" series of strips, where the board finally had enough of him and told Izzy to let him go.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Being a psychotic Serial Killer with a Hair-Trigger Temper, it doesn't take much for him to go further off the deep end when things don't go his way.

    Venus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_venus.png
Click to see her without the bandages (SPOILER WARNING)
Click to see her after her facial reconstruction (SPOILER WARNING)
The Big Bad of volume two, Venus was the district attorney of Ft. Vilese who held a particular grudge against Izzy and made numerous attempts to ruin her life.

  • Amoral Attorney: She's a DA who uses every considerable legal tactic to destroy Izzy's reputation. When that proves to be a constant failure, she drops all pretense of legality and decides Murder Is the Best Solution.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: She finally achieves her dream of becoming a senator after her facial reconstruction, only to learn that she can never become president due to the stupidity of the American public forcing the government to secretly create bio-engineered bugmen as presidents and hold false elections. As a result, she ultimately leaves the U.S. in favor ruling over her own country, much like Izzy.
  • Commuting on a Bus: After her story concluded with Izzy paying to have her scars fixed and eye replaced, she made sporadic appearances that were unrelated to whatever Izzy's gang were up to until "Solution", where she comes back at Darcy's arranging to give Izzy the hatefuck she claimed to want so badly. During the time before (and after) that, she was mostly seen in the White House, finally becoming a senator after Izzy paid for her facial reconstruction.
  • Cyborg: She gets a cybernetic replacement eye as part of her facial reconstruction.
  • Eye Scream: The whale cum incident didn't just scar her face, it also blinded her right eye.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: Ever since Izzy helped pay for her plastic surgery and cybernetic eye, Venus has seemed to have forgiven her by the time she appears in both "Solution" and "Grudge", and seemed fine with the idea of having sex with her. That said, she still dislikes Izzy (even if it's cooled down from before) and will not let her forget about what she did to her.
Izzy: Whew! That was exactly what I needed.
    Venus: You're whalecum.
Izzy: *nervously* Uh... right. So, uh...does this mean...are we...Are we cool?
Venus: *after giving it some thought* Sure. We're "cool."
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Under her bandages, her face has a splash-like scar across the top right half of her face and both her cheeks. She is also the main villain for Vol. 2.
  • No Sympathy: Her reaction upon seeing Asher on the floor, holding his arm stump, bleeding out and clearly in pain?
    Venus: (Beat) *sneering* Pathetic.
  • Plot Allergy: She's allergic to whale cum and her severe reaction to it drives her vengeance against Izzy in Vol. 2. She lampshades the absurdity of it when dropping her Wham Line.
  • Put on a Bus: She has yet to show up in Part 2, having been last seen attending Izzy, Darcy and Tanya's wedding in the finale of Part 1.
  • Revenge: She wants to ruin Izzy's popularity and career because she was the one who scarred her face and ended her career prospects.
  • Scars Are Forever: Averted. Most characters keep whatever scars they get, but Venus is the sole exception and that's only because Izzy paid for her plastic surgery.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In "Copycat", Venus is disillusioned by both the current political process in the United States (in this comic, anyway) and with the borderline suicidal idiocy of the American public. Thus, inspired by Izzy and Key Manati, she decides to leave the U.S. and restart her political career in another land.
  • Take Over the World: This is her new goal now, as of Vol. 6. Downplayed heavily, as she's not interested in taking over the world but rather becoming a ruler of her own country, much like Izzy. She sets up shop in a Mad Max-style autonomous zone called G.A.R.Y.note  It's implied that she plans to overthrow G.A.R.Y's current warlord and become it's new leader. As of "Those Guys", she has succeeded in becoming G.A.R.Y's first president as well as taking over the entire state of Washington.
  • Two-Faced: She was splashed mostly on the right side of her face, giving her a disfiguring allergy scar.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Her constant failures of making Izzy face legal repercussions slowly but surely drive her off the deep end, to the point where she just decides to kill her. When even that proves to be failing, she is just crying over her terrible circumstances when she finally tells Izzy her backstory....
Venus: WELL?! Nothing witty to say?! No sarcasm?! No sexual innuendo?! SAY SOMETHING!
    Izzy: I...I'm sorry...
Venus: FUCK YOU! I'm gonna FUCKING KILL YOU!

    Captain Orca and his Crew

Captain Orca

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_orca_2.png
The Big Bad of volumes 3 and 4, Captain Orca was a nice and chill sea captain who moved to Key Manati alongside his crew. However, it's slowly revealed that he had his own reasons for moving there....

  • Acrofatic: Despite being built like a sumo wrestler, he's a formidable melee fighter. He beats several of Izzy's guard to a pulp and is able to hold his own against Darcy.
  • Affably Evil: In general he is an extremely friendly and cheerful guy. He is also relentlessly searching for fish girls out of a desire for revenge against one particular fish girl and will hurt anyone that gets in his way.
  • Big Fun: When he isn’t obsessed with killing the Jellyfish Girl, he’s a pretty affable guy who’s down to have fun with the others. He’s also REALLY big in terms of height and weight.
  • Fat Bastard: He's very massive in girth and height, and serves as a major antagonist for one arc.
  • Forced to Watch: In the flashback detailing his Freudian Excuse, he was forced to watch as the Jellyfish Girl ate the dead bodies of his departed crewman, including his father the captain, for 15 days straight due to the fact his leg was trapped in an anchor.
  • Babies Ever After: He and Ally are having a baby together, as revealed in "Those Guys."
  • Interspecies Romance: Ends up having one with his first mate Ally, a chimera.
  • Karma Houdini: Averted; It looks like, after their Heel–Face Turn that Captain Orca and his crew will get away with trying to kill the Jellyfish Girl, Izzy and Darcy and nearly destroying Key Manati in the process. Then the arc ends with Darcy climbing up into their boat with a Slasher Smile and demanding a rematch. Subverted, though; "Cannon Maintenance" reveals that Darcy let Orca and the others go. She still beats the crap out of him, tho.
  • Revenge: Orca is obsessed with finding and killing one particular fish girl, the Jellyfish Girl. His backstory reveals that after his father's boat was destroyed by a storm, she ate the corpses of his father and the other crew in front of him over the course of several days. His leg was trapped under the boat's anchor, leaving him unable to stop it, and it seemed to deliberately ignore his pleas for help. Even after he learns that it's actually the fish girl version of a Portuguese man-o'-war and doesn't even have a brain, he doesn't stop.
  • Seadog Pegleg: Orca's missing left leg is replaced by a peg. In his backstory, the shipwreck that killed his father and the other crew of their boat left him washed ashore but with his left leg pinned for days under the anchor, which was too heavy to lift. He eventually hacked it off with a sharp rock, partly out of rage over the fish girl eating everyone and partly because it looked like it was going to come after him.
  • Save the Villain: He is the recipient of this trope; once his hand gets caught under a rock while under water, the Jellyfish Girl, the target of his Revenge comes to him. In a reversal of their earlier encounter, she actually does save him by moving the rock and lets him swim away after. This act finally makes him let go of his violent vendetta.
  • The Unfettered: He will exact his vengence upon the Jellyfish Girl, even if it means resorting to kidnapping, murder and destroying an entire island.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Izzy tries to save Orca from the crumbling platform and stop his vendetta using this trope, telling him that she has seen him outside of his obesssion. It doesn't work.
Captain Orca: *after briefly pondering* Ye've never TRULY seen me afore today.

Flamingo Joe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_joe2.png
A crotchety old marine biologist who has a vested interest in fish-girls.

  • Evilutionary Biologist: He likes to study fish girls. And by "study", we mean kidnapping, murdering and dissecting them.
  • Grumpy Old Man: He's your stereotypical old coot complaining about those younger than him and generally just an unpleasant old soul.
  • Meaningful Name: Considering he greatly resembles a flamingo (his nose resembles a flamingo beak for example), his nickname is quite appropriate.
  • Sinister Schnoz: His beak-shaped nose is what earned him his nickname, and he's an old geezer with an evil streak.
  • Verbal Tic: He goes "WARK!" whenever he finishes speaking, is annoyed or when someone physically assaults him.

Ally

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_ally.png
Orca's first mate, a strange-looking young woman who is always seen smoking a joint and acting real chill.

  • Babies Ever After: Her and Orca are having a baby together, as revealed in "Those Guys." In "Tetrapods Reign Eternal", she's seen in the background alongside the other crewmates, carrying her child.
Ally: *heavily pregnant* CAP'N! My feet hurt, come gimme a foot rub!
    Orca: Aye-aye.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: Downplayed. Her half-alligator heritage gives her these eyes, and while she can be very vicious, the rest of the time she's just relaxed and mild-mannered.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Turns out that, if you are a chimera, you'll drown once you hatch, and your mother will die if she spends more than six hours on land. Even then Ally's mother did everything in her power to make sure she would be safe and was openly weeping the entire time.
  • Disappeared Dad: While we know what happened to her mother, it's still unknown what became of Ally's father after her conception.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Ally has green hair, weird eyes and pointed, razor-sharp teeth, and is eventually revealed to be half-alligator.
  • Interspecies Romance: Ends up having one with Captain Orca, who is human.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": An alligator-girl named Ally. Orca clearly wasn't that creative when he came up with a name for her.
  • Raised by Wolves: Ally's mother placed a spell on some swamp alligators to make them think Ally was their own child to help them take care of her. Indeed, she lived in the swamp for a long while before Orca found her.
  • Pregnant Reptile: Ally is shown to be pregnant in the final right panel of "Those Guys." As a reminder, Ally is half-alligator.
  • The Stoner: Invoked by Orca when introducing Allie to Izzy.
Orca: That there is Ally, me first mate. Don't worry none about her. She ain't a good acquaintanceship with talkin', on account o' the weed smoke addling her brains.
Izzy: Oh good, she'll fit right in.
    • Orca later reveals that marijuana is the one thing that keeps her animalistic instincts in check. Without them, she acts much more like an alligator than a human.
    • Gets exploited by Izzy later, who distracts her by cooking up marijuana-filled food to lure Ally away and into a warehouse so she won't be of use to Orca.

    Florida Man and associates

"Florida Man" (real name: ???)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_florida1.png
The mysterious man known only as "Florida Man" (so far) is chaos personified, and is more deeply tied to Izzy than is known at first. He was the Big Bad of volumes 5 and 6 and maybe the entire comic as a whole.

  • Addiction-Powered: Apparently, if he takes large doses of different kinds of drugs and alcohol, he's able to gain superhuman abilities like Telepathy. This saves Izzy and Addy's lives when he uses his power to contact a fish girl he knew to save them.
  • Affably Evil: He's quite jovial, loyal and energetic for a guy who loves to stew chaos.
  • Arch-Enemy: Izzy seems to consider him as this. The very image of him manages to send her to a seething rage.
  • Beyond Redemption: What he ultimately believes himself to be in "Help"; when Izzy offers to help him, believing that anyone can be saved (even him), he rejects her offer telling her earlier that "some people can't be helped"
  • Chaos Is Evil: He loves stewing chaos and dysfunction simply because he felt like it and doesn't seem to care about the fallout unless he found short-term joy out of it.
  • The Corrupter: After meeting Izzy and Adelie when they were kids, he introduced them to drugs and booze while also scheming to get them away from their mother. He also introduced their mother to drugs before they were born.
  • Death Seeker: Turns out, all he really wants is to die; it was implied in "Can't" when he was goading Izzy to shoot him. It was practically confirmed in the later strips, especially in the last two panels of "Stranger."
Izzy: That's not how this works at all!note  And you'll die in the blast too!
Florida Man: [beat] *a wide, toothy smile spreads across his face* Maybe.
  • The Dying Walk: How Florida Man (supposedly) finally meets his end in "Floridian Burial." Instead of accepting Izzy's offer of help, he chooses to jump off the boat and walk off into the dark. With the gunshot wounds in his arms still bleeding, it's pretty clear he may die.
  • Eye Color Change: He can seemingly change his eye color more or less at will.
  • Facial Horror: His right eye is solid black with a red iris, and the skin around it is stitched on and visibly withered, looking much like a really bad attempt at a skin graft.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: When telling Izzy his motivations for blowing up Florida with a nuclear bomb in "Gouge", she expresses no sympathy for him. He understands, telling her that it's "an explanation, not an excuse."
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He is almost single-handedly responsible for Izzy and Adelie becoming the dysfunctional, addled adults they are currently, starting from when he got their mother addicted to drugs.
  • Healing Factor: When Izzy shoots him in the shoulder and arm, the wounds seem to heal rapidly. However, in his final appearances, the arm is still bleeding out, implying that his healing factor is no longer working.
  • The Hedonist: Much more so than Izzy! In fact, he was the one who introduced her to his lifestyle of getting drunk and/or high, commit criminal acts and generally doing whatever they feel like doing, damn the consequences.
  • Historical Domain Character: He was Ponce de Leon, a real life Spanish conquistador and explorer who was famous for leading the first European expedition to Florida. Or maybe he wasn't. Maybe.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: As Florida Man goads Izzy into shooting him, he mentions that "I can't even kill me" almost to mock her for thinking she can kill him. Whether that means he actually wants to die remains a mystery for now. Indeed, his plan to unleash a nuclear bomb across Florida is more-or-less his way of trying to end his life. In "Stranger", when told by Izzy that he could die in the blast, Florida Man gives an almost estatic smile on his face.
  • Identity Amnesia: Apparently, even he isn't sure of his origins.
  • Immortality Seeker: Florida Man probably was one, a long time ago. Specifically, he was once Ponce de Leon, a Spanish explorer who once made an expedition to Florida, searching for the Fountain of Youth. However, his wife fell ill and grew worse as the search went on. He eventually found the fountain and tried desperately to cure her illness by making her drink the water, even trying it himself. Alas, she had already died, leaving him to be forever young. However, as Florida Man reveals to Izzy, that was a lie. Or maybe not.
  • Morality Pet: In the flashbacks, Izzy and Adelie almost serve as this for him. Keyword being almost due to the reveal by the end of Vol. 5. But, by his last appearance, he ultimately spares Izzy when she and her friends foil his latest scheme. He even expresses pride in Izzy for becoming a better person than he is.
  • Multiple-Choice Past: Discussed by him in "Maybe." Any of them could be true....
Florida Man: Maybe I AM Ponce de Leon himself. MAYBE I'm the animate spirit of the swamps, stalking Florida for all time. Maybe I am the god of a native american people long-extinct. But what if...Maybe....I'M JUST SOME ASSHOLE?
  • Only in Florida: He is the embodiment of the archetypical "Florida Man", albeit Played for Drama.
  • Older Than They Look: While the mime/clown battle is going on in the library's parking lot, Len discovers in the archives that "Florida Man" has been around since possibly the early 1700s, causing trouble every time he shows up.
  • Parental Substitute: Izzy and Addy consider him such, as he's the only adult who has ever been helpful and nice toward them, and it seems that he cares a great deal about them in turn. But when he happily reveals that he introduced their mother to drugs, their image of him as this trope completely shatters. By the present, Izzy clearly hates his guts; at one point, just seeing him get away cause the blood vessel in her eye to pop from sheer anger.
  • Practically Joker: Florida Man takes a lot of cues from The Joker (minus being a Monster Clown); he commits random acts of chaos simply because he "feels like it", is hedonistic to an almost disturbing degree, corrupts the main characters in various ways like introducing a then-preteen Izzy and Addy to drugs, alcohol and various debaucherous activities and, before the two of them were born, possibly turning their mother into a violent drug addict, and finally having a Multiple-Choice Past.
  • Scars Are Forever: He has an autopsy scar across his torso, yet is still up and moving.
  • Tragic Villain: Beneath the hedonism, corrupting influence, and chaos for the sake of chaos, he's a suicidal shell of a man who's far more bothered by his ambiguous past than he lets on, and he ends his time in the series refusing Izzy's attempts to help him, as he believes he's not worth saving, and walking off into the night to (possibly) bleed out unceremoniously.
  • Villainous Rescue: As his plan to get Izzy and Addy away from their mother goes horribly awry, he is forced to telepathically contact Red Snapper's mom to tell her to get them out of the car before they drown.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's really hard to talk about him without spoiling his connection to Izzy and Adelie.
  • Water Source Tampering: It's revealed to be part of his ultimate plan; he, rather bashfully, tells Izzy that he put drugs into Tampa's water supply.

Methany

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/methany.png
Methany is a mime who hangs around with "Florida Man" in the present day. Her miming skills are so advanced that they can actually affect reality around her to some degree.

  • Deliberately Monochrome: The influence of her miming on the people and environment around her is shown by the panels gradually becoming sapped of color. This is first seen in "Shh"; in "Grenade" everything has become completely B/W. This later reoccurs when she traps Izzy in an invisible box while they're having sex and makes her getaway.
  • Punny Name: Meth + Bethany.
  • Your Mime Makes It Real: She is an exceptionally convincing mime.
Sarah: [...] But every so often... A mime exists who can fool senses beyond sight. I'm afraid this is going to get incredibly silly.

Clem and the Good 'Ol Boys

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clem_6.png
A family of demented rednecks led by a hillbilly stoner who hangs around "Florida Man" and Methany.

Part Two

    Cronus and Xierdra Goetias
The Big Bads of Volume 8, Cronus and Xierdra are Calixta's parents who disapprove of their daughter's relationship with Max and push her into becoming the model successor of their magical crime family.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Both of them hate Max for being a bad influence on their daughter, and forcing them to break up is one of the many ways they control Calixta's life. Ultimately, once it becomes clear how much they love each other, they allow Max and Calixta to continue dating — though not before Cronus makes it clear to Max what will happen if he makes Calixta unhappy.
  • Parents as People: Ultimately, they want to make sure their children are happy and successful, but they're so focused on what they want for their children that they completely failed to take into account whether the kids want to take over their business or not. When Calixta makes it clear that what she wants is different from what they want (and when it becomes apparent her friends will stop at nothing to see her happy), they realize how badly they messed up and agree to be more lenient towards her in the future.

Cronus Goetias

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cronus.png
Calixta's father and the don of a mafia of powerful mages.
  • Abusive Parents: Not quite as bad as his wife, but it’s subtly clear that he is emotionally manipulative toward his daughter, acting the role of a gruff yet caring parent only to push Calixta toward the path he desires for her over her own wants.
  • Affably Evil: Cronus acts as a loving (in a stoic way), concerned parent toward his daughter and acts civil towards Len when they meet in her office and even toward Max when they meet on the beach, but it's quite obvious there is cold ruthlessness underneath his affability.
  • The Don: He's not only the patriarch of Calixta's family, he's also the head of a mafia full of mages. He acts quite affable, yet is obviously very intimidating and threatening.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: "Understanding" reveals that he was Len's drug supplier to help her "supress [her] visions that ravage [her]" before she met Izzy and co. He even mentions he had "ways" of keeping her out of trouble, and vaguely threatens to bring her back to whatever state she was before if Calixta keeps getting in trouble.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: As "Construct" shows, Cronus completely towers over his wife.
  • Magical Barefooter: Every time we see his feet the only things on them are rings, and he’s a magic user of implied significant power.

Xierdra Goetias

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xierdra.png
Calixta's mother and matriarch of the Goetias mafia family.
  • Abusive Parents: Based on her first speaking appearance alone, she's very cold and harsh toward her children. With Calixta specifically, she is also extremely dismissive and controlling, often trying to force her to focus on becoming a model successor to the family business over anything else.
  • Education Mama: She is obsessed with Calixta's academic performance and constantly voices her displeasure over anything that gets in the way of that; she expresses clear disappointment over Calixta just getting an A on a test rather than an A+.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: She really enjoys smoking cigars, even in a limo with her whole family present.
  • Hate Sink: Compared to her husband, Xierdra proves to be the more outwardly abusive parent towards Calixta, being overly controlling and sometimes snide if she feels her daughter succeeds below her high expectations. She is also generally smug and haughty, looking down on anyone she considers beneath her (even Izzy, who is a billionaire and literal queen of the island Xierdra and her family resides in). She does receive a bit more depth later on, especially as she explains to Calixta why she is so hard on her and eventually allows her to continue her relationship with Max.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: "Construct" shows that Xierdra barely reaches her husband's shoulders.
  • Parents as People: "Bonding" has Xierdra explain to her daughter that the reason she is so harsh toward her is to toughen her up and rise to be a better person against the chaotic world they reside in.
  • Rich Bitch: She's the wife of a wealthy and magical mafia don, and a complete and utter bitch.
  • Speech Impediment: "Her Voice" reveals that she has a stutter like her daughter, but hides it and only shows it when she's flustered.

    Akihiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2024_01_08_at_15703pm.png

A mysterious boy who transfers to Max's class. He has an interest in magic and the occult.

For tropes about him outside Ennui GO!, check out Rainbow Skies Forever's character page there.

  • Ambiguously Evil: He's a younger version of the Big Bad of Rainbow Skies Forever, but exactly how villainous he is in the present day has yet to be determined.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: In order to get the power needed to mutate Andi, he summons an eldritch creature and swallows it whole.
  • Empty Shell: For whatever reason, he doesn't have an astral form, which Min equates to him not having a soul.
  • Eyes Always Shut: His eyes remain closed most of the time; whenever they do open, they only do so slightly, and it's used to emphasize his creepiness.

  • Nightmare Face: Pulls a pretty impressive one in "Glow Up" as he's about to use his magic on Andi.
  • Obviously Evil: Even without foreknowledge of who he is, he spends so much of his screentime looking and acting incredibly creepy that it's obvious he's an antagonist.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Most of the time he sports a wide, toothy grin on his face.

    The Occult Research Club
A club at Key Manati High that's pretty much Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Akihiro joins their ranks and starts manipulating them to further his own goals.

Andi

A girl who suffers from an incredibly strange physical mutation. She's turned to mysticism to figure out a solution.

  • Art Shift: Her physical distortions are represented by separate bodies splitting off from her, each one in a different art style.
  • Body Horror: Whatever her condition is, it makes her look like a living art piece and causes her to suffer from strange physical distortions.
  • Hates Being Touched: She flinches back when Akihiro tries to touch her; apparently, she's not one for physical contact.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: She's driven by the desire to find a cure for her condition.
  • Perpetual Frowner: As a side effect of her mutation, her default expression is a toothy frown.
  • Sanity Slippage: Starts to suffer from this as Akihiro uses his magic on her.

Titania

A member of the club who speaks entirely in poems. She's also a member of the school newspaper.

  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Putting aside how she talks, she seems to believe in several odd conspiracy theories.
  • Lurid Tales of Doom: When she takes over the school paper, she steers it in this direction, ordering stories on things like aliens in the school bathroom.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: She has blank white eyes, which highlight her creepiness.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Occasionally does this as part of her "speaking in poetry" schtick.

???

A member of the club who talks like a farmer.

Minor Characters

    Canyon and the Wrestleboys

Canyon Maska

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/canyon.png
An amateur wrestler who ends up befriending Izzy and her crew after an impromptu wrestling event.

  • Gentle Giant: Aside from being a wrestler, Canyon is a friendly dude despite his intimidating size and appearance.
  • Magical Native American: Averted; he's Tlingit, but is as far from being magical as you can get, though he's not above using the stereotypes associated with this to troll his non-Native friends.
  • Nice Guy: See Gentle Giant.
  • Wrestling Doesn't Pay: He had been struggling to make ends meet as a wrestler. Indeed, during their match, Izzy offers to help him pay his rent for the next month.
Canyon: Oh man that'd be a lifesaver. I gotta spend so much money on food to maintain a body this size.
Izzy: Amateur wrestling not pay much, buddy?
    Canyon: Hard to believe, right?

    Frankenhooker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frankenhooker.png
Also called "Frankie", she's a Frankenstein-ian creature created by Doctor Bald using the collected parts of "sexy corpses" from the Ft. Vilese morgue. She was created specifically to fund the doctor's experiments through, well, being a hooker, but she didn't want to. Currently dating Ghost Boy. She was also Max's history teacher at his old school.

  • Cute Monster Girl: Despite being stitched together from multiple body parts and having green-colored skin, she is quite the looker.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She seems to have a natural sarcastic wit about her for someone barely a year or more old.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Kind of obvious based on appearances and her creation, but unlike her inspiration, she is quite intelligent, able to speak full sentences and is a Non-Malicious Monster.
  • May–December Romance: Her and Ghost Boy, which gets them some flak from a particularly vocal and misguided Moral Guardian.
  • Meaningful Rename: She really didn't like the name "Frankenhooker", so when Izzy decides to name her "Frankie" for short, she decides to keep it.
  • Only Sane Man: Oddly enough, despite being a Frankenstein's Monster, Frankie's one of the most level-headed characters in the whole comic.
  • Really Was Born Yesterday: She physically resembles an adult and has the intelligence and mental capacity of one, but she's only about a couple years old since being created in Vol. 2.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: When Frankenhooker meets Ghost Boy, she is instantly charmed by how shy and sweet he is. As a result, they begin a relationship.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Frankie clearly towers over her boyfriend, despite him being a ghost and able to float.

    Ghost Boy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_ghostboy.png
A young, virginal boy who died from chemical poison in his hair dye a long time ago. Now he haunts the halls of Doctor Bald's mansion looking to finally lose his virginity but never able to. Currently dating Frankenhooker.

    Helen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_1ellen.png
Skyler's mother. She's the stereotypical "Karen" and will argue with anyone that she thinks is polluting her presence.

  • Moral Guardian: She did not approve of Frankenhooker and Ghost Boy's relationship when she first meets them, accusing the former of being a cradle-robber. Of course, she didn't know the truth about them.
  • Obnoxious Entitled Housewife: Helen is the epitome of this trope, being an annoying, entitled Rich Bitch. The first reference to her is Izzy describing her as having a "sandy vagina", and in her first appearance, she gets into a Cat Fight with Adelie at a PTA meeting.
  • Rich Bitch: She's quite wealthy and is an entitled, annoying presence to those around her, especially Tanya.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Helen may be an entitled bitch, but in "Town Hall" she rants about how evil the GMOs that Doctor Bald is making are. Her proof of this is the fact that the pear she's holding has a face and is asking why was it created.
Izzy: Hm. I really should keep a closer eye on that guy.
  • Unsatisfiable Customer: She's the kind of person that will ask for a refund on a drink she's already finished.

    Coach Bobert
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ennui_go_coach_bobert.PNG
The gym teacher at Max's school. He's a pedophile and everyone knows it, and he's a frequent target of abuse by Max.

  • Creepy Gym Coach: He takes advantage of the school's gym uniform including extremely short shorts, and outright admits to being a bit of a pedophile when Max asks him if he is.
Max: For the love of GOD coach, why can't we wear normal gym shorts? I'm peekin' out here!
Bobert: Nuh-uh. Y'all gon' wear them tiny lil' pants and prance around out on tham there foo'baw field.
  • Fat Idiot: He's got a huge gut, man boobs, and a swollen neck, and isn't too bright, if the way he talks and his take on sex ed is any indication.

    Mrs. Cruddletwat
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_cruddletwat.png
Mrs. Cruddletwat is one of the teachers at Max's school, and is that elderly woman who, despite being a teacher, actively hates kids and seems to relish in making her students miserable.

  • Child Hater: Her sole pleasure in life is physically and emotionally abusing her students. It's eventually revealed that she is a psychotic, sadistic squatter who pretended to be a teacher just so she could abuse the children attending the school.
  • Non-Residential Residence: She's apparently been living in Max's school for an undetermined amount of time and the faculty and students never learned that she wasn't an actual teacher before Bella told the principal.
  • Sadist Teacher: Because of her real motivations, she barely puts any effort into her "work" and the worksheets she gives the kids are an exercise in abuse, as Bella learns.
Cricket: Mrs. Cruddletwat makes us do one random worksheet a day. Then she gives us whatever grade she thinks we deserve, which is usually an F.
Bella: Then what does SHE do all day?
Cricket: Mostly drinks and mutters to herself. If we talk she throws a stapler at us.
  • Ultimate Job Security: She somehow manages to keep her job despite clearly acting horrible toward her students. It's eventually subverted when it's revealed she isn't a real teacher at all. Indeed, upon being found out, she is shown being arrested by the Key Manati police.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about her without revealing that she's not a real educator.

    Chocly the Sweetboy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_chocly.png
Originally conceived by Darcy as a combo of multiple aspects of the Christmas season, Chocly has become a menace that makes Christmas a nightmarish experience for Max and his friends.

    Zachary
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zachary_8.png
A sword-swinging weeaboo who worked with Venus to destroy Izzy's reputation.
  • Large Ham: The man acts like an over-the-top Anime character arguably more than Hashim does.
  • Occidental Otaku: He fits this trope to a T; he peppers his dialogue with various Japanese terms, is obsessed with anime and manga to the point that also he hates Western cartoons and carries around a samurai sword at all times. In fact, the main reason he joined up with Venus was that he wanted to make "the AVATARS of plebian western media" disappear through bringing down Izzy's video-game empire.

    Roxanne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_reneesis.png
Renee's younger sister and a former intern at Venus' DA office.

  • Apathetic Clerk: "Apathetic Intern" in this case. She is visibly disinterested all the time and is generally uncaring about her job. A Running Gag throughout her appearances was asking Venus whether or not she could go home.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She shares her older sister's penchant for stoic wit.
  • Idiot Hair: Like her mother and older sister, Roxanne also has a lock of hair that sticks out like an antennae. Unlike Renee's, hers drops down (except when she's in action or displays emotion outside of boredom) and is wavy, reflecting her apathetic nature.
  • Not So Stoic:
    • She gets quite upset when Renee pulls out Roxanne's diary and reads it out aloud during their fight scene. Clearly embarrassed, she surrenders and leaves.
    • Later, when we get a glimpse of Renee and Roxanne's childhood in "Inborn." One panel has her usual, bored expression when Renee is tying her hair and the next panel has her tied up in her sister's jump-ropes and she's bawling her eyes out.
  • Secret Diary: She has one, which Renee uses to her advantage in "Dear Diary."
  • The Stoic: She always carries a bored expression on her face, and is arguably more stoic than her big sister. Even when she's about to kill someone, she'll never lose that expression.

    Corey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_1corey.png
Corey is a party crasher who shows up at one of Izzy's shindigs during the Venus arc, and immediately irritates everyone around by being an incredible asshole.

  • Jerkass: He's obnoxious, gross, and belligerent, going from hitting on Darcy and Adelie to taking a dump on the toilet instead of in it to peeping on Izzy, Darcy, and Tanya when they hide and start to get busy.
  • Life of the Party: He thinks he's this and certainly has the attitude, but ends up ruining everything with his antics. Even jumping off the roof and being injured badly enough to need to be taken away in an ambulance doesn't dampen his enthusiasm.
*on a stretcher, heavily bandaged* Keep the party goin', dudes! Woooooooo!
  • Spanner in the Works: His shenanigans throw off Crow Guy's attempts to spy on Izzy and the others.
Crow Guy: This is proper fucked! I can't get any intel because that tosser Corey is ruining the party! Nobody wants to get pissed because they're afraid he'll put his knob on their forehead!
Corey: Wanna see me do something weird to my junk?
    Crow Guy: PISS OFF!
  • Squick: invoked He grosses out a party-goer by attempting to use a nipple ring to uncap a beer. Said nipple is so infected it's turned green. Later, he grosses out Sergio with a description of his philosophy on when to flush.

    Galatea
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_galatea.png
Galatea is a friend of Darcy who controls a monopoly on comic book distribution in America.

  • Eye Scream: When she's introduced in "Brunch", Darcy reveals that she took her own eyesight.
Galatea: It's incredibly easy to dehumanize customers when you can't see their pathetic faces!
Darcy: Are the increased sales really worth chemically blinding yourself?
Galatea: The quarterly projected earnings charts seem to think so!
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Galatea, having just broken up with her boyfriend, is distraught and plowing through a bucket of Fudge-Packed Triple Cookie Nightmare.
  • Symbol Motif Clothing: Her suit, jewelry, and nails are adorned with white diamond shapes; given her role in the story, it's likely a reference to Diamond Comic Distributors.
  • Villain in a White Suit: She's a ruthless businesswoman who has no qualms about squeezing the comics-buying base for every penny she can get from them, and her default business attire is a white suit over a blue blouse.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Her hair is as white as her suit (and eyes), and she takes advantage of her customer base every chance she gets.

    Xanthe and the Screamin' Demons
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xanthe.png
A roller derby team Renee is a part of, led by their team captain Xanthe.

  • Accidental Misnaming: In "Something Demons", the announcer constantly gets their team name wrong (like "Creamin' Demons"), much to Renee's consternation. As a solution, Renee decides to give the group new uniforms but apparently whoever tailored the uniforms also got the name wrong (this time, "Semen Demons").
  • Butch Lesbian: Renee tells Izzy in "Roller Derby" that all roller derby players are gay and this team is presumably no exception.
  • Cool Old Lady: Xanthe appears much older than the rest of her teammates, but she's still a cool, skilled and often brutal player on the derby rink.
  • Lesbian Jock: A whole team full of them (besides Renee). They also take on other teams like them, especially one that has a Giant Mook who's bigger than Darcy among them.
  • Shout-Out: The team are all Gender Flipped versions of Organization XIII members; Xanthe is based on Xemnas, "Lexie" is Lexaeus, "Debbie" is Demyx, and so on. Renee takes the place of the sole female Organization member, Larxene.

Morrigan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_morrigan.png
Click to see her in the present (SPOILER WARNING)
Izzy and Adelie's mother and Max's grandmother. A drug addict with three split personalities, one of which is named "Morrigan", who is a nightmarish, savage figure who speaks only in old Irish folk songs and generally made her daughters' lives a living hell, the effects of which still haunts them to this day.

  • Abusive Parents: During an acid trip, Izzy sees flashes of her mother's childhood, revealing that she was also abused by at least one of her parents.
  • Addled Addict: It's clear that her constant drug use destroyed what little sanity she had left. As of "Hail", she's practically catatonic as she lies in a sickbed.
  • Back for the Dead: She shows up in the present day in a hospital bed, barely alive, and soon dies right after Izzy finally visits her.
  • The Bus Came Back: She had disappeared from the story after the final flashback and it was left ambiguous what happened to her after she was arrested. Then, after Izzy's final confrontation with Florida Man, she finally appears in the present; she's much older, lying in a hospital bed hooked up to an IV and appears barely alive when Izzy makes a visit.
  • Disease Bleach: If what Izzy sees while tripping is anywhere close to reality, her mother acquired a gray streak in her blond hair at some point after becoming pregnant with Izzy and Adelie, and picked up more the older she got and the more she descended into drugs and insanity. By the present, her hair has gone fully gray and is shorter, though that may be due to the hospital she's in.
  • Dying Alone: After Izzy left her room, Morrigan is implied to have died in her hospital bed, alone.
  • Eye Scream: The redness of her right eye is likely due to spreading infection from the track marks near it. "Quiet" makes this even worse, as she's actually bleeding from under that eye and has a bloody syringe in her hand, making it all but certain that she shot up into the eye. A few strips later, a bit of imagery lampshades this; after beating Izzy and throwing her and Adelie into her car and driving away, the windshield has a web of jagged cracks that shifts as she moves but stays centered on that eye. However, when we see her in the present, the redness in her eye has completely vanished and appears free of any infection.
  • Evil Counterpart: She can be considered this to her daughters Izzy and Adelie. She's argubably what both sisters could've ended up as if they didn't have a strong, supportive group of people on their side (Izzy with her True Companions (especially Noah, Hashim, Darcy and Tanya), Adelie with Bella and Max). Izzy even lampshades this aspect somewhat, telling her mom that she could've been a much different person and even a better mother had things been different for her.
  • Fighting Irish: Played for horror. Her "Morrigan" aspect sings or talks in really dark lyrics from old Irish folk songs when she's on the rampage, brogue and all.
  • Freudian Excuse: Based on what Izzy sees in her acid trip (and comfirmed to be true in "Love, Love, Love"), we learn that her and Addy's mother had it just as bad as her daughters did: she was horrifically abused by one or both of her parents, bad enough to have her sanity damaged, her mind splitting into three seperate personalities and becoming psychotically violent. Then, when she got older, she was introduced to illegal substances and used them to self-medicate, even prostituting herself to get more money to buy them which is implied to be how Izzy and Adelie were concieved. Even worse, Florida Man was the one who got her hooked in the first place. While it ultimately does not excuse her horrific abuse toward her daughters, Morrigan's life is a tragic story and it lead to her becoming a monster.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Izzy tells her mother in "Love, Love, Love" that she did some research into her past and acknowledged that, as bad as her and Adelie had it, their mom had it even worse. But, despite now knowing what she had experienced, Izzy states that she will never forgive her mother for all the torment she put her and her sister through.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: She kinda shares this role with Florida Man, as she is the reason why Izzy and Addy became the traumatised, messed-up people they are currently.
  • Hidden Depths: In "Ravens", as she's going through with her attempted murder and the three personalities are ranting in her head, one of them clearly doesn't want to do this and expresses fear for her daughters and tearfully lamenting about what she's about to do to them. It almost shows that, somewhere deep down, she does love her children...or she would've if the other sides of herself weren't so powerful.
  • Honor Thy Abuser: Despite the fact that she tried to kill them all those years ago, Izzy and Adelie still cared enough about their mother to put her in a decent hospital when her condition grew worse. It's downplayed, however, as Izzy admits to her mother when she finally visits her that she doesn't forgive her for her actions but no longer feels any hate toward her either.
  • Killed Off for Real: "The Last Show on Earth" revealed that Morrigan had died after Izzy left her room, with her three personalities, who are now younger, entering the afterlife and meeting with the same Grim Reaper Izzy met years back.
  • Mood-Swinger: When she's first fully revealed, she seems to be insanely furious, but then seems almost sad, and then merely angry. Later on, as her past is shown via Izzy's acid trip, it becomes clear that the abuse she suffered caused her mind to break into three aspects, one overcome by sadness and pain, one consumed by hate and rage, and the violently psychotic "Morrigan". It's also implied that her drug use is a way to get her mind calmed down enough to function. When she finally snaps and tries to kill the girls, "Morrigan" is completely in control, with the other two sides talking in frames on either side of her head.
  • Offing the Offspring: She tried this, as revealed by the fish girl's story to her daughter. A much later story arc reveals exactly what happened; she dragged them to her car, drove into the ocean and, when she jumped out, left them there to drown.
  • Only One Name: Seeing as Pritchard is a fake name that was cooked up by Florida Man to help Izzy and Adelie start a new life, we have absolutely no idea what her surname is.
  • Reincarnation: It's implied in "Introductions" that she ended up reincarnating as her own granddaughter Morgan.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Played for horror in one of the flashbacks to Izzy and Adelie's teen years. Izzy tells a social worker about her mother, but when they go to Izzy's house, they find her mother in regular clothes, behaving in an unusually chipper manner and having cleaned the house. The social worker leaves; when Izzy asks how she knew, her mother says she didn't, she was hopped to the gills on Adderall and cleaned everything up as a result... and then she attacks Izzy.
  • Split Personality: Has three of them: one representing her rage and hatred, one her sadness and regret and of course, Morrigan.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's bit hard to talk about her without revealing how she tried to kill her daughters, her own Dark and Troubled Past, her connection to Florida Man and, after seeing Izzy again in the present, her death and eventual (possible) reincarnation as Izzy's daughter.

    Noah's Family
For more information on Noah, see his separate folder.

Hamish and Matilda "Tilly"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hamish.png
Hamish
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tilly_9.png
Tilly
Noah's parents; his father is an appliance repairman and his mother a real estate agent.
  • Boob-Based Gag: Tilly is shown to have massive breasts, as a visual indicator of what side of the family Noah got his own Gag Penis from.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Hamish apparently has the same kind of violent temperment as his son.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Both Hamish and Noah have extremely short fuses.
  • The Stoic: Tilly is described as "perpetually bored" and "laconic".

    Hashim's Family
For more information on Hashim and his brother Xoltan, see their separate folders.
  • The Clan: Aside from Hashim, Xoltan and their parents, the family is also comprised of dozens of aunts, uncles and grandparents, as well as fifty cousins, second cousins, nieces and nephews.
  • Good Parents: Both Samman and Faiza are loving, doting parents to their two sons.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Hashim clearly shares his cooking skills with both his parents.

Samman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/samman.png
Hashim and Xoltan's father, the owner of a restaurant the brothers sometimes come to help out.
  • Boring, but Practical: "Gimmicks" reveals that his restaurant has been doing quite well since he set up shop in Key Manati because of his lack of any gimmicks; most of the other restaurants in the country have fancy gimmicks, but more often than not these gimmicks make eating at the restaurants range from unpleasant to outright dangerous.
  • Hunk: Samman appears muscular and works out like Hashim, but he has more of a "dad bod" due to his age.
  • Immigrant Parents: He doesn't quite understand American culture.

Faiza

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/faiza.png
Samman's wife and Hashim and Xoltan's mother.
  • Housewife: Faiza is described as a homemaker who seems to handle the cooking in her house.
  • I Want Grandkids: Faiza constantly pesters her sons over their romantic lives because she desperately wants grandchildren.
  • My Beloved Smother: She can be quite pushy toward her kids, especially when it comes to their love lives.

    Renee's Family
For more information on Renee and her sister Roxanne, see their separate folders.

Arlene

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_reneemum.png
Renee and Roxanne's mother and a therapist.

  • Idiot Hair: Like her daughters, Arlene has a lock of hair that sticks up like an antenna; hers is upright like Renee's and wavy like Roxanne's.
  • The Shrink: Her main profession. Her introduction has her help a patient cure his coulrophobia with some assistance from Sarah.
  • The Stoic: She seems to be where Renee and Roxanne get their stoicness from.
  • Silver Fox: She's still physically attractive enough to have Izzy make her wear a skimpy bikini during their therapy session on the beach.
  • Walking Swimsuit Scene: When she reappears in the beginning of Vol. 6, Izzy has her wearing only a bikini (specifically Renee's) throughout their therapy session. She explains to her annoyed (and topless) daughter that, outside of wanting to feel sexy, it was the only way Tanya and Darcy could get Izzy to agree to talk to her.

Chuck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chuck_6.png
Renee and Roxanne's father, Arlene's husband and an accountant.

    The Slater Family
For more information on Darcy, see her separate folder.
  • Expy: Since Darcy herself is an expy to Darkseid, it makes sense that her family are expies of Darkseid's family as well: her mother Helga is Heggra, her father Khan resembles Yuga Khan (with elements of Kalibak), and Uncle Stephen is Steppenwolf. Meanwhile, her brother Tom, the Only Sane Man in her family is evidently Drax, aka Infinity Man, Darkseid's brother.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: Each member (except Tom) are a different brand of ruthless, violent and sinister and yet they appear to be quite close-knit and loving... in their own way.

Helga Slater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/helga_67.png
Darcy's mother, a retired jewlery store owner.
  • Almighty Mom: Described as a "Tiger mom" by Doc Glasgow.
  • Evil Matriarch: She has the appearance and personality of one, preferring to raise her daughter to be as tough and merciless as possible. She even took Darcy out of preschool when she was younger because she didn't want her to be "infected by [their] spineless, bohemian style of child-rearing!"
  • I Want Grandkids: She desires grandchildren from her daughter. It's the only reason why she accepts Darcy's hedonistic lifestyle.
  • Large Ham: It's pretty obvious where Darcy's attitude comes from...
Helga: HAHAHAHAHA! How modest! Hail, Darcy! Who but Helga could have borne such a daughter!!?

Khan Slater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/khan_9.png
Darcy's father, a Korean general/war criminal-turned-retired board member of a software company.

Stephen Slater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stephen_6.png
Darcy's uncle and owner of a fashion company.
  • The Dandy: He owns a fashion company and is decribed to have an "odd sense of style."
  • He-Man Woman Hater: He has no girlfriend or wife because "women disgust him."
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Doc mentions that he has a narrow urethra, thus making him unable to have kids of his own.

Tom Slater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tom_0.png
Darcy's brother and the Only Sane Man of the family.
  • Jaded Washout: Implied, but downplayed; he was a star athlete when he was younger, but never made pro. He still enjoys doing outdoor activities, mostly as a way to avoid his family.
  • White Sheep: He is the only family member who isn't borderline evil, and often does whatever he can to avoid spending time with them.
Tom: (thinking) I have got to get out of this family.

    Tanya's Family
For more infomation on Tanya, see her separate folder.
  • Missing Mom: Tanya's mother does not appear to be in her daughter's life, and it's unknown what has happened to her.

Franklin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/franklin_6.png
Tanya's father, a former Black Panther.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being a tough parent, he is quite proud of his daughter.
  • Mama's Boy: Still lives with his mother Grace.
  • Notorious Parent: He was a member of the Black Panther Party.
  • Sudden Name Change: When he first appeared in "Baminglio", his name was "Carl". However, when Doc gave detailed descriptions about all the main cast's parents in the comments section of "Familia", his name is now "Franklin".

Grace "Meemaw"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grace_part_2.png
Tanya's grandmother, a retired librarian.
  • Cool Old Lady: Like her son, she too was an activist back in the day.
  • Granny Classic: She is very doting and sweet toward her granddaughter and her son, though in the latter case she thinks he can be too hard on Tanya.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: More "Like Grandmother, like Granddaughter" in this case; Grace shares Tanya's role in being the Only Sane Man, epsecially once the latter marries into Izzy and Darcy's families.
  • Sassy Black Woman: She's not afraid to rag on her son if he's being especially hard on Tanya.
Grace: Carlnote  you leave this poor baby alone. Your daughter got herself two girlfriends, why can't you find ONE?

    Len's Family
For more information on Len, see her separate folder.
  • Happily Married: Sharon and Moonbeam still hold hands and lovingly give each other cute nicknames as they talk about having sex with other people.
  • Polyamory: Sharon and Moonbeam are in an open marriage; when they're walking in the park with Len in "Familia" they are openly discussing their latest sexual conquests, much to their daughter's horror. The reason why is due to having different sexual needs (i.e. Sharon is a "size queen" while Moonbeam is into anal sex), yet the two are still Happily Married.

Sharon Donovan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_sharon1.png
Len's surprisingly normal mother, an elementary school teacher and, briefly and awkwardly, Noah's old fuck buddy.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Sharon often finds some way to annoy and embarrass her daughter. "Caught" has her constantly interrupting Len and Noah's alone time by checking if she needed something. It actually ends with her about to take her clothes off and asking her daughter if she could "tag in."
  • Friends with Benefits: She was in this type of relationship with Noah before he started dating her daughter, without either knowing their own connection to Len before it's eventually revealed in "Circuit."
  • Mrs. Robinson: She had a fling with Noah, who's at least two decades younger than her. Even after said fling ended (and when Noah started dating her daughter), she still tried to have sex with him as shown in "Caught".
  • Love Father, Love Son: Gender-flipped. Sharon and Noah had a brief fling (Noah was dating her mostly to get Arcanus trading cards from her) but broke it off sometime before Noah and Len officially started dating. Also, the two never really learned their own connections to Len (she being her mother and Noah being her friend at the time). That is until "Circuit" when Sharon catches her daughter and Noah in the act. They both recognize each other, accidentally revealing their prior relationship to Len, who is not happy about it for a while. Len does eventually get past this.
  • Silver Fox: She's still hot enough to attract the attention of a younger man (in this case, Noah.)

Moonbeam

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moonbeam_5.png
Len's father, an aging hippie with stark white skin and onwer of a yoga studio.
  • Alien Abduction: Was supposedly the victim of several abductions.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: He has zero trouble discussing his sexy escapades with his wife, in public and in front of his clearly disturbed daughter.
  • Hippie Parents: Well, "Hippie Parent" in this case; he still dresses the part and loves meditating and taking psychedelic drugs.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Has chalky white skin similar to his daughter, but lacks her black hair.

    Sarah's Family
For more information on Sarah, see her separate folder.

Nate and Millicent "Millie"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nate.png
Nate
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/millie_2.png
Millie
Sarah's parents; Nate is a retired Army colonel and Millie is a corporate lawyer.
  • Generation Xerox: Both Sarah and Millie have dwarfism and their romantic partners, Hashim and Nate, are far, far taller than them.
  • Happily Married: Implied, at least where their sex life is concerned; Doc describes Millie to be an "absolutely wild tiger in bed", meaning that they seem to still have an active sex life.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Millie shares the same height as her daughter, and her husband Nate clearly and completely towers over her.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Nate and Millie appear stoic and stern while their daughter Sarah is bubbly, upbeat and fun-loving.
  • Tough Love: Doc described Nate and Millie as being "very stern, very strict" parents toward Sarah.
  • Omnidisciplinary Lawyer: Millie owns a successful law firm and works with numerous corporations.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Neither of them smile in their first appearance, but Nate will smile only for Sarah.
  • Sex Goddess: Millie is described as a "absolutely wild tiger in bed".
  • When He Smiles: Even though Doc describes him as "nearly humorless", Sarah is apparently the only person who can make Nate genuinely smile.

    Hiro's Family
For more information on Hiro, see his separate folder.
  • Disappeared Dad: Hiro's father died from an unknown illness ten years ago.

Kiyoko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiyoko_6.png
Hiro's mother, a painter and owner of a plant nursery.
  • Like Father, Like Son: She is an artist much like her son Hiro; she is a painter and creates DIY homesteading stuff while he is a game animator and mangaka.
  • The Mourning After: Implied to have been the case; she has only very recently started dating again after her husband died.
  • Silver Fox: Her one appearance in "Baminglio" has her sunbathing with her family, and she is quite the looker in a bikini.

Hibiki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hibiki_1.png
Hiro's little sister.

    The Goetias Family
For more information on Calixta and her parents, see their separate folders.
  • The Mafia: Calixta's family come from a long line of mages who act very much like a mafia; As Len explains, they use their talents to gain wealth and power, offer "extra-judicial services" to those who come to them... for a price. As the language of magic is literal, if someone fails to meet their conditions, then things may end badly for them.

Erasmus Goetias

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/erasmus.png

Calixta's older brother.

  • Big Brother Instinct: He seems to care greatly for his little sister, as shown in "Underprotective/Seen/"Optimism", even willing to kick Max's ass despite earlier being weary of him. He even defends her against their mother when she chastises her for not getting a higher grade on a test.
  • Cool Big Bro: Out of everyone else in her family (outside the butler), Erasmus treats Calixta with a lot more respect and care and is willing to defend her against Xierdra's constant criticisms.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: He starts to threaten this until he sees a photo of Max covered in blood and says that Calixta is on her own. Then Max accidentally walks in on her when she's changing her shirt, leading her brother to pummel him.
Sorry kid, I know you have no context for this but I changed my mind.

Xuri Goetias

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xuri_0.png
Calixta's younger sister.
  • Characterization Marches On: She made a few appearances during volume 7, where she appeared to be a relatively normal little girl. It wasn't until volume 8 that she became more antagonistic.
  • Enfante Terrible: She chases after Bee with a knife at one point, and most of her appearances in volume eight show her with a sinister look on her face.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has twisted pigtails that stick up-right.

The Butler

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ennui_go_butler.png
The Goetias family's butler.
  • Battle Butler: He is a very skilled fighter, even managing to take down a Key Manati MP with ease.
  • Old Retainer: He has been serving the Goetias' family for decades, even back when Cronus was a child.
  • Papa Wolf: He is very protective toward the Goetias' children, as two thugs who tried to kidnap a younger Calixta no doubt learned the hard way.

Boingo Peabody

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2023_06_19_at_74524_pm.png
Calixta's cousin.
  • Connected All Along: Initially introduced as an antagonistic clown during the "Two Worlds" arc, he later turns out to be a member of the Goetias family.
  • Jerkass: He's prejudiced against Juggalos to the point of assaulting one with a rock in a pie, and he repeatedly gets Calixta in trouble with her parents without a hint of remorse.
  • Non-Ironic Clown: Subverted; he's introduced as part of a group of these and initially appears to be one, but turns out to be a jerk.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Boingo Peabody" is clearly a stage name he uses when performing as a clown. His real name is never given, though his last name is presumably Goetias.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Repeatedly tattles on Calixta whenever he finds her doing something her parents would disapprove of.
