    Izzy Pritchard

Elizabeth "Izzy" Pritchard-Slater

Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Izzy is a video game programmer who, on a whim, developed a game called "Pro Ass Fishing." There, the player catches fish girls and has sex with them. It ended up being an incredible success, making her insanely wealthy practically overnight...which then took a toll on her sanity, which was already a little tenuous due to her family trauma. She became a hedonist who basically does whatever she likes, mainly as a way to stave off boredom and keep from slipping into depression, which doesn't always work. Currently she is the queen of her own island nation, Key Manati, and is in a polyamorous relationship with Darcy and Tanya.

  • Abusive Parents: Izzy and Adelie's mother was a drug addict and violently insane, and made their lives a living hell. Reflecting on their mother brings back flashbacks of death and horror, and it's all but said out loud several times that a lot of Izzy's depressive fugues are due to PTSD from her childhood.
Kirsty: So what are our parents like?
Izzy: We don't have parents. They're dead. In fact we NEVER had parents. We were formed from clay and brought to life by Zeus. FUCK OFF
  • All-Loving Heroine: Despite her cynical, snarky attitude, this is what Izzy ultimately is; she's quite forgiving and accommodating even toward her enemies, especially if she screwed them over in the past (like Venus), believes in seeing the good in people and that anyone is deserving of help even if they happen to make life difficult for others.
  • Babies Ever After: Izzy and her wives are starting a family in Part 2. However, due to her clusminess in handling the "applicator", she ends up impregnating Darcy instead of Tanya, who was supposed to be the one carrying the kid as planned in "Options" way back in Part 1.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: Izzy vows that she will love and cherish her children and treat them far better than her own mother treated her. Though, Izzy openly admits that she's also doing this to just to spite her.
  • Broken Pedestal: Izzy once considered Florida Man to be the only adult who cared about her and her sister and developed a genuine bond with him over the course of the flashbacks. Her image of him as that shatters when she learned that he was the one who introduced their mother to drugs. In the present, when he re-enters her life Izzy clearly hated his guts and the very sight of him enraged her. However, when his ultimate scheme was foiled by Izzy and friends, she had finally let go of her anger toward Florida Man and even offered to help him despite everything he did.
  • The Bus Came Back: After spending the majority of Volume 7 as The Ghost, she's the final character to reappear after all her friends made their returns.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Played for Drama. What she assumed would just be one of many harmless pranks on a passerby led to Venus developing a murderous hatred for her, fueled in part by the knowledge that Izzy didn't even realize what she did.
  • The Caligula: Played for laughs and inverted. Izzy is a hedonistic, irresponsible, drug-addled Womanchild who clearly has no business running an entire nation. But luckily for Key Manati, she's generally good-hearted and has her people's best interests in heart. It helps that she also has her more competent friends (mostly Renee) to help her run the place.
  • Caring Gardener: Back when she lived in Ft. Vilese, Izzy took care of a plant and veggie garden on the top of her office tower. It was her way of distracting herself from her depressive, suicidal thoughts and more self-destructive tendancies.
  • Cheated Angle: She wears her hair long on top and flipped to one side while the sides and back are buzzed extremely short, but whichever way she's facing, her hair will always be flipped to the opposite side so the reader can see her face. This contrasts with Sarah, whose bangs always cover her right eye no matter where she's looking.
  • Closet Key: She's this to Officer Espinosa (thanks to her disguising herself as Adelie and seducing her). That incident caused the policewoman to briefly question her sexuality before getting a handle on it after moving to Izzy's island nation.
  • Cool Aunt: Of the "horribly irresponsible" variety. She once bought Max a flamethrower as a Christmas present for God's sake.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her mother was a psychotic drug addict who was violently abusive toward her and her twin sister Adelie when they were younger. It all came to a point when their mother decided to kill them by driving their car off the pier and into the ocean, leaving the two twin sisters to drown. Then, after they were saved, their Parental Substitute Florida Man reveals that he was responsible for turning their mom into an addict. It's pretty clear that her terrible childhood still affects her to this day.
  • Dying Declaration of Love: Her last words when Trapped in a Sinking Car by her mother were telling her sister that she loved her, though both of them ulitmately survived.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After suffering a horrible childhood, becoming a billionaire, dealing with various attempted murders and generally facing many strange threats, Izzy finally finds closure over her Dark and Troubled Past after defeating and reconciling with Florida Man and visiting her mother one last time. After that, she puts her past behind her and becomes a more mentally sound and hopeful person by the end of Vol 6./Part 1. Oh, and she marries her girlfriends Darcy and Tanya.
  • Eccentric Millionaire: Izzy became a billionaire practically overnight, and she is as eccentric as they come.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Izzy uses her vast wealth to live like a queen, annoy everyone within arm's reach, and both have and witness lots of gratuitous and bizarre sex, but when an "old money" rich guy offered to sell her slaves, she bought his entire stock and called the police on him.
    • She ends up being the only member of her company's board to object to the idea of making a kid-oriented cartoon and toy line based on her explicit sex game, something she lampshades.
"You know it's gotten fucked up when I'M the moral compass in the room."
  • The Ghost: Since she had yet to reappear in the first volume of Part 2, Izzy has become this; characters constantly reference her more-or-less continuing to be her usual self and, whenever any images of her are shown, her face is always obscured. She finally makes her return in the final page of Volume 7.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: She's not evil, but putting a mentally-unstable hedonist in charge of her own island nation goes about as well as you'd expect. Even her more well-intentioned ideas tend to lead to chaos (e.g. giving business loans away to anyone who asks leads to a lot of restaurants with stupid and/or dangerous gimmicks opening up).
  • Guns Akimbo: She keeps a pair of pistols hidden in her rooftop garden and uses both against Venus and in the first major confrontation with Orca. It's eventually revealed that "Florida Man" taught her how to shoot when they were hanging out during her early teen years.
  • The Hedonist: Since gaining billions of dollars, Izzy quickly devoted her life to indulge in various bad habits (namely sex and drugs) and borderline anti-social behavior both to allievate her boredom and ignore her more self-destructive thoughts. That said, she is capable of being responsible when pushed to, likes to help people when she sees they need it, will right a wrong she caused (indirectly or otherwise) and does care about her loved ones. By the end of Part 1, she seems to have fully grown out of this mindset, or is at least deciding to do things because she genuinely enjoys them, not just to cure her boredom.
  • Heroic BSoD: When Izzy pulls a gun on Florida Man in "Can't", the latter goads her into shooting him. Despite her hatred for the man, Izzy ultimately cannot bring herself to do, tearfully lowering her gun. In "Panic", Izzy has a panic attack as Florida Man rambles about his latest scheme.
  • Humans Are Special: This is Izzy's new outlook on life after the end of Vol. 6/Part 1.
Izzy: Ennui is a state of boredom. It's being so damn bored you actually get depressed over it. But god there's so many other emotions out there. So I'm done with ennui. I don't need it any more. I don't WANT it anymore. Unbound by ennui, I can be so much more. We all can. Hell, feeling nothing at all is preferable. Surprise, trust, sadness, awe, cockiness, playfulness. Pride, love, paranoia, joy, anger, excitement. I'm done letting whoever happened to create me write my story. Because it's not money that makes anything possible (Although it sure helps!) Anything is possible because we're human, and alive! So tell me. What do you think happens when anything becomes possible? Everything.
  • Informed Flaw: Izzy's supposedly bugfuck nuts, but we never see anything except for the occasional bout of depression or drug-fueled shenanigans. Given that she interacts with genuinely insane people like Len, Asher and Smegli, her insanity is very much an informed trait.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may be a hedonistic goofball who does some amazingly antisocial things, but Izzy has a good heart, will do whatever she can to help someone when she sees that they really need it, and will set things right when she realizes that she's genuinely wronged someone.
  • Laborious Laziness: Izzy spends a whole week coding an algorithm to calculate what meals take the least amount of work (and rotate it so she's not living on jam sandwiches all the time) so she doesn't have to do dishes. Hiring a chef and/or maid never occurs to her either.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Izzy's childhood surfaces in a very unpleasant way in "Reunion" and "Inheritance". In the former, seeing "Florida Man" driving Methany's getaway car causes her to pop a blood vessel in her right eye from anger. In the latter, she blows up at Len, Sarah, and one of the Key Manati police in a manner very similar to her mother, right down to the facial expression and her now-completely-red right eye. Fortunately, when she sees their looks of shock and hurt, she's horrified.
  • Madness Mantra: During her panic attack, Izzy can only mutter the words "Don't want just..." as Florida Man continues to ramble.
  • Mama Bear: During the second Black Hole crossover, she's confronted with an android from the future who informs here that it's there for her son. She shoots it through the head without even bothering to ask what its intentions were (unlike Max, who had actually been told that it was planning on killing Nathan before he attacked). Appropriately enough, the strip in question is titled "Maternal Instincts".
  • Misanthrope Supreme: Overwhelmed by the horror of their current situation, Izzy tearfully and angrily lapses into this while Addy is panicking. Keep in mind, Izzy is still a pre-teen at this time!
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Izzy is horrified when she finds out about how she ruined Venus' life and seeing the looks on Sarah and Len's faces when she explodes at them after Methany escapes the library with "Florida Man".
  • Pink Is Erotic: Izzy always dyes her hair a bright pink, which almost perfectly represents her lustful nature.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: Downplayed. Because of her upbringing, Izzy often wore flip-flops. Even after she becomes a billionaire, she is always seen wearing them instead of shoes, if not just plain going barefoot some of the time.
  • Rags to Riches: From a simple game programmer to queen of her own island nation.
  • Really Gets Around: While most of the adult cast engages in casual sex, Izzy still stands out as someone who will sleep with anyone over the age of 18, with it even being implied that she's had at least two threesomes with Adelie and Bella. In fact, her entire relationship with Tanya started because she decided to randomly pay her $3000 for sex just to prove a point to Noah.
  • Rich Recluse's Realm: After she and her friends got stranded on a deserted island, which was revealed to be an archipelago owned by an old billionaire, Izzy decides to purchase the land to create her own country. At the beginning of Vol. 3, Izzy invites her friends, family and others to her new island nation, Key Manati, where she rules as queen.
  • Scars Are Forever: Izzy gets shot in the left shoulder by Asher. She later is shown with a star-shaped tattoo over the entry wound.
  • Security Blanket: Izzy has a teddy bear called "Mister Ears", that she made herself out of old couch cushions. She still carries him around sometimes and sleeps with him.
  • Seen-It-All Suicide: Izzy considers it often enough that it's an annual New Year's Resolution. It's a sign of her Character Development that she doesn't pledge this anymore.
  • Son of a Whore: Izzy and Adelie are implied to be the result of their mother prostituting herself for drug money.
  • The Un Favourite: Another trope taken to a nasty end by Izzy and Adelie's mother. While she clearly hated both kids, Izzy seems to be the one who gets the lion's share of the abuse (at least that has been shown so far), possibly because she appears to be more confrontational than Adelie.
  • Tattoo Conceals Scars: At the end of Volume 2, she covers over the bullet wound from Asher shooting her with a star shaped tattoo.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: It takes a long road to get there, but Izzy does slowly but surely achieve true happiness as her gang of friends grow, then finding closure from both Florida Man and her mother and finally marrying her girlfriends.
  • Took the Wife's Name: Both her and Tanya take Darcy's last name when they get married.
  • Trapped in a Sinking Car: Her mother tried to kill both her and Adelie by driving her car off the pier and leaving them to drown when she escaped. Luckily, they were saved thanks to the combined efforts of Florida Man and Red Snapper's mother.
  • Uptown Girl: She manages to fit both sides of this trope at different times, first being the poor one during her initial relationship with Darcy and then the rich one by the time she starts dating Tanya.
  • Vapor Wear: For a long time, her default outfit included a spaghetti-strap top that made it clear that she wasn't wearing a bra (she never bothered due to being unable to find a good-looking one that fit). Subverted after Tanya points out that she could just get a custom fit one, a revelation which leaves Izzy in tears. After that point, her bra is always visible under her shirt.
  • Womanchild: While she does have her more serious moments, Izzy isn't exactly the most mature person around. For example, she acts like an edgy, rebellious teenager, is extremely hedonistic, lazy and occasionally anti-social and she still sleeps with a teddy bear.
  • Working with the Ex: This was her and Darcy's dynamic before their reconciliation in the "Stranded in the Pleasure Archipelago" arc.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Izzy is again conflicted over killing Florida Man, Omegaman gives her this kind of speech in "Tetrapod."
Omegaman: Citizen. Izzy. Look at me. You're not drowning anymore. Like the first tetrapod that wriggled up on dry land, you are here because you chose to be here. With or without him. So come on. Who are you?
Florida Man: Heh. Y'know, you turned out better than I could've ever hoped.

    Noah
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_noah.png
Click to see him in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Noah is one of Izzy's two closest friends; he tried to rein in Izzy's extremes at first, but decided to just roll with the madness when he realized that that wasn't going to work. He works as an astrophysicist, and is best known for having a massive temper and an equally massive dick. Currently dating Len.

  • Babies Ever After: He and Len are having a baby together, as revealed in "Super Frat Bros". Later, in "The Practical Lesson of Len", they've given birth to a baby daughter, Phoebe.
  • Black Bead Eyes: He's the only one of the main characters to have this type of eyes; they turn white when he's distressed in some way. His daughter Phoebe inherits this trait from him.
  • Brainy Brunette: Noah has brown hair and worked as an astrophysicist before becoming Izzy's Minister of Science at Key Manati.
  • The Bus Came Back: He's the sixth member of the original cast to return in Part 2.
  • Gag Penis: He is freakishly well-endowed, and as the comic's gone on it's only gotten bigger, to the point that it's comparable to his actual legs. This gets a ton of lampshades (for instance, Izzy claims she could give birth and not notice, Renee compares it to trying to sit on a lamp, and much later on, Sarah actually uses it to practice pole dancing). "Gremlin" highlights one of the comic's meta gags—when clothed, he's drawn with normal proportions rather than having his pants look like he's hiding a squirrel in there.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Noah will be triggered into ranting rage by almost anything, and several strips are just him venting about various things. He's confronted about it at one point. Doc Glasgow mentions that he gets his temper from his father, Hamish.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Noah may be a hot-tempered asshole, but when push comes to shove, he will always be there to protect and help out his loved ones.
  • Prone to Sunburn: Noah shows up at the beach in his normal clothes, and his sunburning gets run into the ground by Hashim.
Hashim: I feel you though. You get pinker than Joey McCarthy's glasses.
    Noah: True.
Hashim: Like a fresh Alaskan salmon during mating season.
    Noah: I get it.
Hashim: Like you got into a fight with poison ivy and lost.
    Noah: OKAY.
  • The Professor: He doesn't often display his scientific intellect around his friends, but he is an astrophysicist, is often shown working at a laboratory and the others do come to him when they need his scientific expertise on occasion. Izzy even appoints him Minister of Science when she founds Key Manati because of it (though nepotism also had a hand in that decision, as well).
  • Rage Breaking Point: It doesn't take much to piss him off, but causing harm to the people he cares about is enough to really make him angry, almost murderously so. Asher learns that the hard way when he shot Izzy in her shoulder.
You dumb... *reaches for Asher's cleaver* Ugly... SHIT HEADED....MOTHERFUCKER! *he chops Asher's arm off with his cleaver*
  • Scars Are Forever: Noah gets bitten on his right arm by the strange fish girl Captain Orca was trying to kill and now has a large scar on his bicep.
  • Straight Man: Was mainly this for Izzy and Hashim until he just started to roll with the craziness, though he does occasionally snarkily/angrily comment on the insanity, weirdness and stupidity around him (especially if it involves his girlfriend, Len.)
  • Time-Passage Beard: During the island arc, Noah grows a long beard over the course of a month, at least. By the time the gang are finally rescued, he keeps the beard, but trims it down.

    Hashim
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hashim.png
Click to see him in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Hashim is Izzy's other closest friend. Unlike Noah, he embraced and encouraged Izzy's antics. He's an excellent cook, loves all things "badical", and is always out for fun, although for him "fun" usually involves either extreme sports or fire. Currently dating Sarah.

  • Amazonian Beauty: In the Gender Flipped world, Hashim's counterpart Salma, when out of her hijab, is almost as muscular as the main Hashim along with some curves and breasts.
  • Anime Hair: He has spikey black hair that almost sticks up, much like a character in a shonen anime.
  • Babies Ever After: He and Sarah are having a baby together, as seen in "Stalls".
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Hashim's generally an energetic, friendly guy but if you really piss him off or attempt to harm any of his loved ones, he will lay the smackdown.
    • For example, in "Slash", he doesn't hesitate to defend Izzy from Asher, punching the guy in the face and throwing him out.
    • In "Discrepancy", a woman confuses Sarah for being Hashim's little sister because of her height. Hashim does not appreciate that, especially when she ignored the fact that Sarah's clearly white and he's Egyptian.
Hashim: I'm like five shades darker than she is. In what world is she my sister?
      • And soon...
      Woman: Sorry, I just assumed...
Hashim: Assume you ain't got any business with us. Fuck along now.
    • A funny example happens in "Sex Tips", where Sarah reads sex advice from a magazine that gradually disturbs him. Enough so that he leaves to go the magazine stand...and burns the place to the ground!
  • The Bus Came Back: He's the seventh member of the original cast to return in Part 2.
  • Chef of Iron: Works at his father's restaurant, with ambitions of starting his own some day, and he's as strong as he looks.
  • Expy: Looks a lot like a Dragon Ball character. (Don't call him "Mexican Goku", though; he's Egyptian, and he's clearly more of a Vegeta.)
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He's well over 6' and currently dating Sarah, who's 4 feet tall.
  • Hunk: He rivals Darcy in being the most muscular member of the main cast and has a nice, friendly face, as well.
  • Important Haircut: When he shows up in "Super Frat Bros", his Anime Hair has noticably been cut much shorter.
  • Manchild: He's more-or-less an excitable, playful, thrill-obessessed teenager in the body of a 20/30-something adult.
  • Nice Guy: He's definitely the friendliest, most perky member of the main cast.
  • Scars Are Forever: Asher cuts Hashim's face with a broken bottle, leaving him with three long, thin scars over his right eye.
  • Thrill Seeker: If it looks cool and is enough to make his heart pump, then Hashim will do just about anything.

    Renee
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_renee.png
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Renee is Izzy's secretary; she was originally hired to keep Izzy's life in order, but now handles almost every aspect of Izzy's life and business that Darcy isn't involved with. On the side, she's quite into BDSM. Currently dating Hiro.

  • Babies Ever After: She and Hiro have a son named Kazumi in Part 2. Noticably, like all the women in Renee's family, he has a cowlick that sticks right up like an antenna.
  • Big Sister Bully: She enjoys messing with her younger sister Roxanne, whether it be tying her up with jump ropes or stealing her Secret Diary and reading it aloud.
  • Brains and Bondage: Renee has a BDSM fetish and is one of the more intellectual and professional among Izzy's social circle.
  • The Bus Came Back: She's the eighth member of the original cast to return in Part 2.
  • Custom Uniform of Sexy: Renee constantly runs around in just a bra or bikini top since Izzy pays her more to do so. Even after becoming a shareholder at Izzy's studio and no longer being her secretary, she's grown so accustomed to not wearing a shirt that she doesn't even bother to do so during her first official meeting. However, it becomes a bit downplayed when she returns in "Sales Tactics", she is noticably wearing a suitjacket but she's still wearing her bikini top underneath.
  • Dominatrix: Hashim finds this out the hard way the first time he meets her in "Unconventional".
Renee: I should warn you, my tastes are...unconventional.
    Hashim: Show me.
[Hashim is naked, gagged and handcuffed in the next panel while Renee is in typical dom gear with a riding crop]
  • Early Personality Signs: One comic depicting her childhood shows that she had always had a thing for bondage (as well as being The Stoic), starting from infancy.
Izzy: Hey Renee, how long have you been into bondage?
Renee: I am afraid I do not understand the question.
  • Gaslighting: A rare benevolent instance. Renee messes with all of Hiro's timepieces to give him more time than he thinks he has to work on art projects. When Darcy objects, Renee notes that if she didn't, Hiro would never sleep.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: As Izzy's assistant, her duties mostly consisted of trying to get her boss to fufill her responsiblities as CEO of Red Snapper Studios and being queen of Key Manati as well as even handling every other aspect of her life. Izzy recognizes this and transfers all shares of the business to her, trusting that Renee will do a better job running things than she ever could.
  • Idiot Hair: She has a lock of hair that sticks straight up like an antennae. While Renee is most definitely not an idiot, it could reflect her fastidious and occasionally mischievous personality. It's also a genetic trait she shares with her mother and youngest sister as well as her own child in Part 2.
    • It's lampshaded by Len in "Antenna", when she uses Renee to help her contact the "moon computer god" about information she has about lizard men controlling the government.
  • Only Sane Employee: This is Renee's actual job. Note that this is only her job; outside of it she's just as crazy as everyone else. As of "Merger", she seems to still be very much this after becoming a shareholder.
  • Spock Speak: To accentuate her logical, orderly nature, Renee speaks in a very monotone, technical way and rarely uses contractions.
  • The Stoic: Outside of indulging in her fetish or just messing with someone (like her younger sister), Renee rarely shows much emotion.
  • Unabashed B-Movie Fan: Renee loves to watch bad and outright strange movies from various genres and eras, often delivering in-depth critical analysis on them. It's a trait she apparently picked up from her father Chuck (i.e. they're the only two in their family watching Troll 2 and look engaged/entertained; Roxanne is bored as usual and the mom seems equally disinterested.)
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: In the Gender-Flipped universe, Renee's male counterpart Rene is completely shirtless.
  • You Are in Command Now: A non-military example. Renee is now a shareholder for Red Snapper Studios as of "Transfer."

    Darcy

Darcy Slater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darcy_0.png
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Darcy IS.... the head of Izzy's board of directors, and is a frightening, intimidating figure. She and Izzy dated in college, but broke up after "Pro Ass Fishing" took off, due to her pitching the game behind Izzy's back. However, they eventually reconciled and are in a polyamorous relationship with Tanya. In spite of her menacing personality, she does have a deeply hidden soft side, and enjoys cosplay and sewing.

  • Amazonian Beauty: She's tall, broad-shouldered, very muscular, very stacked, and frequently ends up in sexual situations. However, she tends to dress conservatively and her facial features are quite masculine. That doesn't detract the fact that most people find her quite attractive, especially her girlfriends Izzy and Tanya.
  • All Lesbians Want Kids: She has often expressed wanting to have a child, partly due to her familial obligations since her uncle "only produces body counts, not heirs". She finally gets her wish in part 2, when it's shown that she's pregnant. That said, she wasn't expecting to get pregnant herself (see Surprise Pregnancy below).
  • Babies Ever After: When Darcy makes her return in "Smuggler", it's revealed in the final panel that she's pregnant....and is craving for more cookie dough.
Darcy: TANYA! WHERE IS THE REST OF THE COOKIE DOUGH?!
  • Badass Boast: Darcy IS.... the master at delivering glorious rants, toward either enemy or even ally, about how badass she is and how inferior you are by comparison. Don't think she's just shouting hot air, though; she can and will back those claims up.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Izzy can always depend on her to show up, save her butt and turn the tide of battle.
  • Blood Knight: She doesn't display this trait often, but Darcy relishes a good fight and (non-sexually) dominating her opponent. In the final comic of Vol. 4, Darcy, unsatisfied by their previous encounter, stowed away on Captain Orca's boat as it was sailing away from Key Manati and gleefully demanded a rematch. According to "Canon Maintenance", Darcy was beating the crap out of Orca before she decided to leave the captain and his crew alone and even renevating his boat.
  • Boob-Based Gag: Darcy's breasts were always quite ample, but they grew even larger since she started breastfeeding her twins; when Renee asks how big they've grown, Darcy shows her by SLAMMING them right on the table, causing it to shake.
  • The Bus Came Back: She's now the third character from the original main cast to return in Part 2.
  • Butch Lesbian: Downplayed, mostly because of her usual outfit and preference for dressing up as magical girls, but Darcy being tall and bulky, aggressive and stoic in nature, being prone to violence and her other, more masculine interests (such as weightlifting) lean her toward this trope.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Darcy has no superpowers, but is clearly inhumanly strong, which could be attributed to her constantly working out at the gym. So far, she could break out of boxes, snap apart bondage ropes with ease and could lift someone by the neck one-handed. Even in her youth, way before she started weightlifting and developing her physique, she once kicked a ball so hard it smashed another kid's face in while both were playing kickball.
  • Cosplay: Darcy, of all people, is a cosplayer; Izzy made costumes for her when they were dating in college.
  • Cuteness Proximity: In "Zoo", it's shown that Darcy's favorite animal is the panda bear, evidenced by her gleefully hugging one.
  • The Dreaded: Unless you are someone she personally cares for, the only emotion you SHOULD have around Darcy is fear.
  • Early Personality Signs: In "Uxas", we see glimpses of Darcy's youth where she showcases her sinister and frightening personality from kindergarten to high school (ex. at the prom, Darcy gives a fellow student a Death Glare so powerful her pimple pops when he does not announce her as prom queen. The scared student quickly does with an added "now and forever.") The earlier panels do give the implication that that's how she was raised by her family.
Kindergarten Teacher: Well, we do try to discourage fighting...
Helga, Darcy's mother: Then I will be removing my Darcy from your facility immediately! I will not allow her to be infected by your spineless, bohemian style of child-rearing!
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Darcy's hair has grown significantly in Part 2, which shows how much she has (very slightly) softened since marrying Izzy and Tanya and, eventually, giving birth to their twins.
  • Expy: Darcy IS.... clearly meant to be the answer to the question: "What if Darkseid were a woman, a (semi-)regular human and a high-powered businessperson instead of an intergalactic God Of Evil?" She not only has Darkseid's personality and speech patterns, she believes in a "Maximum Profit Equation", a formula to engineer a product capable of total market saturation.
  • Geeky Turn-On: Apparently what revs Darcy's motor is hearing potentially profit-making ideas as revealed during Renee's first day as new co-owner of Red Snapper Studios.
Renee: *Darcy has clearly been masturbating throughout her presentation* Are you listening?
Darcy: *as she's touching herself, her left leg on the table and rubbing her right nipple* Mmph! Darcy is listening SO hard...
Nathan: Erm. I have a proposal. Could all of that [Renee's ideas for a Fish-Girl cinematic universe] be potentially leveraged on say, our own proprietary subscription-based streaming service?
Darcy: *gives Nathan a satisfied, lecherous Slasher Smile* Nathan you old dog that may well be the first and only time a man has ever made Darcy cum.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Whereas the main characters in the Rule 63 universe had their names changed (ex. Izzy is "Elias", Tanya is "Tyler", etc.), Darcy's male counterpart's name is unchanged.
Elias: Y'know I never thought about it, but Darcy is a girl's name isn't it?
Male!Darcy: It is a unisex name! Darcy is a universal constant, across all worlds!
  • Heroic Second Wind: Darcy not only survived getting completely impaled by a whaling harpoon and having it ripped out, she went back up to finish the fight with Captain Orca.
  • High-Pressure Emotion: She shoots steam out of her ears when she sees how many lesbians are in the crowd at one of Renee's roller derby matches.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's tyrannical, menacing and borderline sinister, but Darcy does genuinely love and cares for the people in her life, especially Izzy and Tanya.
  • Lady in a Power Suit: Darcy's usual outfit consists of a blood-red suit jacket and skirt and she most definitely exudes power and intimidation when wearing it. That said, Darcy probably doesn't need to wear a power suit (or any clothes, considering this comic) to be generally intimidating.
  • Large Ham: Darcy does not know the meaning of the word "subtle", especially whenever she delivers grandoise monologues or just generally yelling at and/or insulting others.
  • Made of Iron: Any regular woman would die getting stabbed through the gut with a harpoon. As Captain Orca finds out though, Darcy IS.... no regular woman...
Darcy: Oh, "captain." [....] You are nowhere NEAR the hunter you claim to be....or you would clearly know- One should ALWAYS check the body.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Darcy's the biggest and most muscular member of Izzy's group, and has the strength to match.
  • No Full Name Given: Averted; while she refers to herself only as "Darcy", her first appearance gives her surname as "Slater".
  • Perpetual Frowner: It's rare for Darcy to ever make an expression that isn't a menacing frown.
  • Pregnant Badass: Carrying a child has not dampened Darcy's ferocity; in fact, it seems it made it worse!
  • Slasher Smile: When Darcy smiles at you, expect something terrible to happen.
  • Straw Feminist: She's built like a tank, has a face like a man, and considers men fit only for labor.
  • Surprise Pregnancy: In "Mood Swings", Max asks why Darcy is pregnant instead of Tanya as the three previously planned back in "Options"; Tanya explains that, when carrying the "applicator", Izzy tripped and went inside Darcy instead.
  • The Power of Love: Implied to be the case in "Flashes", as her thinking back on how her, Izzy and Tanya's relationship evolved over the years gives her the strength to stand up after Orca stabbed her.
  • Third-Person Person: She regularly refers to herself in the third person, although she does sometimes go to first person if she's using her name multiple times in the same sentence.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She is a relatively butch woman, but she secretly enjoys cosplaying as magical girls.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: As a little girl, Darcy used to bite her fellow kindergartners if they tried to play with some of her toys. When told of this by her teacher, Darcy's mom tells her that if the children weren't willing to fight for the toys, then they don't deserve them.
  • Ãœbermensch: Darcy establishes herself as this in a Badass Boast.
Labels are for weaker creatures; LESSER creatures. Humans squabble for control amidst the unfeeling CHAOS of the universe, to make them feel as though they are not ANTS being tossed about in a storm. But I AM the storm! The only constant in this or ANY world is the unyielding will of Darcy!
  • When She Smiles: Whenever Darcy gives a genuine, non-threatening smile, it's oddly adorable. This is especially true during her wedding to Izzy and Tanya, where she warmly smiles at Izzy walking down the altar.
  • Working with the Ex: This was her and Izzy's dynamic before their reconciliation in the "Stranded in the Pleasure Archipelago" arc.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In "Underprotective, Seen, Optimism", Max accidentally walks in on Darcy naked while looking for his aunt Izzy. After he slams the door shut in embarassment, Darcy punches a hole through it. Next panel, we see Max's left arm in a sling, implying that Darcy was the one who broke it. That moment gets a Call-Back in "Cryptomon", when Max mentions she might dislocate his shoulder again when Darcy asks him his opinion on her studio's new game. Darcy denies this.... but then tells Max to step back a few steps.

    Tanya

Tanya Slater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_tanya.png
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Tanya first appeared as an unnamed barista that Izzy sexually propositioned at random. Tanya found herself head-over-heels for Izzy's strange reckless nature, and was initially rebuffed but eventually won Izzy over. That said, the strangeness of living with Izzy does get to her every now and then. Is currently in a polyamorous relationship with Izzy and Darcy.

  • Babies Ever After: Her, Izzy and Darcy are starting a family in Part 2. However, unlike the other returning women, Tanya isn't carrying the child, as was planned in "Options" in Part 1. Instead, it's Darcy due to Izzy accidentally putting the applicator in her.
  • Berserk Button: It drives her up the wall for people to say that her preferences in anything are "normal."
    • For example, when Hashim asked her what kind of super-power she would have...
      Tanya: Flight!
      Hashim: *off-panel* How normal.
      Tanya: *still smiling* Fuck off!
    • Subverted in "Normal"; Tanya herself acknowledges during her heart-to-heart with Izzy that her desire to stay in Key Manati, running her cafe and be with the latter and Darcy are "normal" but clearly doesn't care in the slightest.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: Now sports a pair of glasses in part 2.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Tanya may be the nicest member of Izzy's gang, but that doesn't mean she can't be vicious when pushed.
  • The Bus Came Back: After a lengthy absence during part 2, Tanya becomes the second member of the original main characters to return.
  • Don't Make Me Take My Belt Off!: After learning from Izzy that Max and his friends broke into the mansion in "Whoopin", Jericho warns him that, now that her and her wives are now moms, Tanya has become "a black mom". Sure enough, Tanya takes off her dress-belt and threatens to spank him with it.
  • Geeky Turn-On: Her reaction to seeing Darcy in cosplay strongly suggests that this is one of her kinks, and she later cosplays with Darcy in some sexual hijinks with Izzy.
  • Guy on Guy Is Hot: In "Vampires", Hashim and Noah dress as Lugosi / Cullen vampires respectively to seduce Tanya. It doesn't work... until they get into a naked brawl over which depiction of vampires is better, which definitely starts revving her motor.
  • Introduction by Hookup: She and Izzy first met when Izzy offered her $3000 to let her sit on her face just to prove a point to Noah.
  • Lethal Chef: Cooking is not one of Tanya's strong suits. So much so that Darcy entrusted Hashim to teach her how to better prepare meals. Even that didn't work.
  • Nice Girl: She's one of the sweetest and kindest of the main cast outside of Sarah.
  • Obsessively Normal: Inverted; despite being the closest to an Only Sane Man in this comic, Tanya takes great offense at being called "normal".
  • Only Sane Woman: She's probably the least weird of the people living with Izzy, and is sometimes bewildered by the random shenanigans she finds herself in.
  • Sassy Black Woman: She starts leaning into this as she gets older, especially after she has kids. Len refers to it as "becoming a Black Momâ„¢".
  • Soul-Sucking Retail Job: Her first appearance in the comic is as a hapless barista at a Starbucks-equivalent coffee shop. When she moves to Key Manati, Izzy gives Tanya her own cafe where she is both manager and barista, where she still has to deal with the same sort of customer stupidity. At least she has a gun, now.
  • Took the Wife's Name: Both her and Izzy take Darcy's last name when they get married.

    Len

Len Donovan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_len.png
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Len is by far the strangest in Izzy's circle, as she's certifiably insane and prone to spouting rambling visions brought on by drugs, weird rituals, and encounters with Eldritch Abominations. Although she freaked out everyone at first, she eventually became accepted and nowadays everyone just rolls with her weirdness. Currently Noah's girlfriend.

  • The Anti-Nihilist: Len believes that, while nothing in the universe truly matters, that doesn't mean you should just do nothing; rather, use your time on Earth to do something special. Calixta and Vanitas briefly mistake her for being a Straw Nihilist when they listen to her sermon at the Church of Erudition until she sets them straight (in her own way, at least.)
  • Babies Ever After: "Super Frat Bros" reveals that she's having a baby with Noah. However, she had been using a glamour to hide her pregnancy when in school and when mentoring Max. She has since given birth to a baby girl, as shown in "The Practical Lesson of Len".
  • The Bus Came Back: She's the first of the original main cast to return in part 2.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She's a wacky Conspiracy Theorist and generally complete loon, although there's been times that her jabberings have turned out to be correct.
  • Cool Teacher: Of a sort; Len was appointed Minister of Education by Izzy (mostly out of nepotism) and was the scoutmaster for the Adventure Brigade, jobs Noah said she excelled in (aside from the "goat killing Tuesdays fiasco"). Inspired by this, she decides she wants to be a teacher and take someone under her wing. As of Part 2, she is currently principal of Key Manati High School.
  • Cuckoosnarker: Len may be a total loon, but she is capable of delivering witty jabs every now and then.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: She seems to have a new insane theory every time she appears.
  • Eccentric Mentor: Len wishes to be one to Max in "Ara". He refuses on account of her being "batshit fucking nuts", but she believes he will accept eventually as foretold by her cards in Vol. 6. When Max finally becomes her apprentice, the first lesson, a "metaphorical rebirth" according to her, involves taking him to a bridge blindfolded and then pushing him off and into the water below. Afterwards, she explains that it was part of a plan in making him see her as a "mother figure."
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: In "Mouse", Len finds a mouse and, scared out of her wits, jumps into Noah's arms and demands he kill it.
  • Geeky Turn-On: Like Tanya, she's turned on by cosplay, but in a much more specific way: seeing Noah portray the stereotypical "white dad" (in "Changing" and "Barbecue") gets her very hot and bothered.
  • Important Haircut: Len's long hair is cut to a shoulder length bob in Part 2.
  • Ironic Fear: Despite dealing with Eldritch Abominations on an almost daily basis and showing no fear toward them, Len is deathly afraid of mice. A surprised and incredulous Noah even lampshades this in "Mouse".
  • Loon with a Heart of Gold: She's a borderline nutcase who constantly spouts crazy conspiracy theories and other nonsense, as well as constantly messing aroud in supernatural matters, but she's still good-hearted and friendly.
  • My Secret Pregnancy: Len apparently hid her pregnancy through the use of a glamour spell throughout her earlier appearances in Part 2 before Max found out in "Super Frat Bros". Noah explains in "Sacred Traditions" that she wants people to still think "she's got fat titties but a slim waist."
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Chose not to invite Diana to Izzy's wedding due to their mutual enmity. This means that Diana didn't initially know that Izzy changed her last name or that she had kids now...which meant she couldn't warn her ahead of time when a Terminator Impersonator came along planning to kill Izzy's son, setting up the events of "Crisis on Three Comics".
  • No Dress Code: In part 2, she dresses a lot more conservatively since she's now the principal of Max's school, although she still wears a belly-baring shirt, which Max lampshades. "The Zeroth Lesson of Len" shows that she also still wears her part 1 outfit outside of school.
  • No Full Name Given: Averted. Izzy addresses her mother as Mrs Donovan in "Computer God".
  • Parental Substitute: In an insane attempt to get Max to see her as a maternal figure, she pushes him off a bridge to the ocean below, then as he swims back to land, she puts on a bikini and buys a special bacon cheeseburger for him. As she explains to her angry apprentice, she "lowjacked [his] Jungian archtypes" and thus cannot hit her for what she's done as she's his mom figure now. Max attempts to speak out, but just gives up and accepts her logic.
  • Perky Goth: Despite her lunacy, she's generally upbeat and pleasant and serves as a good foil to Noah.
  • Putting the "Pal" in Principal: In Part 2, Len is now the principal of Max's high school.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Her chalk-white skin and jet black hair only accentuate her weird nature. She gets the white skin from her dad, Moonbeam and black hair from her mom, Sharon. When her daughter Phoebe is born, she also has her mother's skin color along with her father's Black Bead Eyes.
  • Scout-Out: After clearing up a misunderstanding about the Church of Erudition's message, Len decided to start a scout troop called "The Adventure Brigade", where she served as scoutmaster and taught the kids of Key Manati how to survive in the outdoors (like making a fire, fending off Mole-Men and figuring "whether or not a squirrel is judging you.")
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: The Crisis on Two Comics Crossover reveals that Len and Diana know one another and do not get along, although Len is the one who holds the lion's share of the dislike. Presumably, their enmity started over Diana's handling of a Chupacabra they both encountered.
  • Tomboyish Name: "Len" is a masculine name, though it's not known whether it's a shortened version of her full name or is her full name.
  • Ãœbermensch: She considers herself one, and she starts the Church of Erudition to spread the word.

    Sarah
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sarah_97.png
Click to see her in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Sarah is a professional clown and currently Hashim's girlfriend. Her bubbly, cheerful personality is inversely proportional to her height. Her favorite thing is making people smile, and her job as a clown helps provide her with all kinds of tactics to this end, although her sense of humor isn't always appreciated by the others.

  • Babies Ever After: When Sarah returns alongside Hiro in "Stalls", it's revealed that she's pregnant with Hashim's child. Considering her size, her carrying a child has made it hard for her to move; in fact, she mentions that Hashim had to wheel her to the Ocean Festival on a baby stroller.
  • Berserk Button: Do not ask her to make balloon dicks. Likewise, don't ever confuse her for a child (see Beware the Nice Ones below)
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Sarah's high-spirited, silly and loves making people laugh, but there have been moments where she sheds her usual demeanor and becomes downright savage.
    • In "Discrepancy", a woman confuses Sarah for being Hashim's younger sister due to her height. Sarah, along with Hashim, is especially annoyed by that.
Sarah: I am an adult woman and my boobies are bigger than her head. Nothing "little" about me.
      Hashim: HELL yeah!
    • "Cramps" shows that she uses sex to deal with period pain and is not nice about it.
Sarah: I need an inside massage RIGHT NOW!
      Hashim: What-
      Sarah: PANTS OFF, MEAT DILDO!
    • Sybil seems to bring out the worst in Sarah the most:
      • When they first meet in "Presto", Sarah is trying to ask her for assistance, but Sybil rudely brushes her off and continues her phone conversation. An annoyed Sarah grabs a stair ladder, snatches the phone from her and makes it disappear. (The comic after this one implies that Sybil's phone was put in Sarah's vagina.)
      • Later, in "Environment" Sarah is delivering her usual PSA to the reader, teaching them ways to stop pollution. As she does so, Sybil is shown in the background doing the exact opposite of what Sarah says (ex. Sarah wants you to avoid using single-use plastics, Sybil is drinking three sodas in disposable cups with plastic straws.) This slowly but surely angers Sarah to the point that she puts Sybil in a chokehold in the final panel.
  • The Bus Came Back: Sarah's now the fourth member of the original cast to return in Part 2.
  • Foil: She's one to Sybil. Sybil is a brash, smug woman who loves making others miserable while Sarah is bubbly, sweet and wants to make people happy. In one comic, the two meet and start clashing but it soon evolves into a session of hate sex between them.
  • Gag Penis: Sam, Sarah's counterpart in the Earth 11 comics is described by Salma as being "like a tripod down there", implying that his schlong is as big as regular Sarah's boobs.
  • Geeky Turn-On: In "Defenestration", when Sarah tells Hashim "I wanna fuck, and I want it HARD", he asks if she's been watching balloon animal ASMR videos again.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She's small enough that Hashim can effortlessly dunk her like a basketball.
  • Magical Clown: ....but only in the sense that she performs magic tricks as a part of her act.
  • Military Brat: Her father is a retired Army colonel.
  • Nice Girl: Rivals Tanya in being the sweetest one in the group.
  • Non-Ironic Clown: Yep, complete with makeup and everything. Everywhere she goes, she tries to make people laugh (she was actually hired by Hashim to try to snap Izzy out of a depressive funk) and she has one of the brightest personalities of the cast. There's been more than a few gags about her job, including political drama at the Clown Union.
  • Pie in the Face: She likes to do this as a mood lightener, referring to them as "creampies" with tongue firmly in cheek. First established in "Creampie".
    • The joke is taken to the extreme in "Catapult" when Sarah jumps on Izzy and hits her in the face with a pie she's holding between her thighs.
    • In "Different in Bed", Sarah asks Hashim to give her a creampie as they're having sex, but when she pulls out an actual pie, he falls over laughing.
  • Running Gag: She will, if made to think about a certain concept, launch into a spiel about examples of that particular concept, complete with visuals that leave Izzy wondering how she does it. These often annoy Izzy to the point that she started to actively stop Sarah from doing such antics in later comics.
  • What Have We Ear?: She somehow managed to give birth by having her child pop up behind the doctor's ear.

    Hiro
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiro_7.png
Click to see him in Part 2 (SPOILER WARNING)
Hiro is an artist hired by Izzy to replace Asher as her game animator. He has an amazing work ethic, but his narcolepsy often gets in the way, and is sometimes aggravated by his work hours. Currently dating Renee.

  • Babies Ever After: He and Renee have a son named Kazumi by the time of "Sales Tactics."
  • The Bus Came Back: He's the fifth member of the original cast to return in Part 2.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma:
    • Invoked by Sarah in "Free Pass" when she finds Renee about to have sex with Hiro while he's dead asleep. Renee counters by telling her that he's given her a free pass because he knows his narcolepsy might leave him in that exact condition.
    • In the gender-flipped "Earth-11" setting briefly visited in comics 1082 to 1085, Hiro's female counterpart Hiroko has the same affliction, and a similar system of note-keeping. The phrase "slam-jam my ma'am hams" is used, prompting Sarah's counterpart Sam to declare "Wow! That's about the worst way she could've possibly put that!"
  • Hunk: He has a muscular physique that rivals Hashim's (they even worked out together once... in Tanya's cafe). However, unlike Hashim and Darcy, Hiro is not as strong as them; he explains to Tanya in "Banjos" that his muscles are "bodybuilder muscles" (i.e. they are mostly for show) and that he has "the stamina of a baby deer."
  • Only Sane Man: Aside from his narcolepsy and good but borderline stress-inducing work ethic, Hiro almost rivals Tanya in being the more down-to-earth member of the group.
  • Sleepwalking: Renee finds him sleepdrawing in "Sleepwalking", but is befuddled by the strange drawing he made.
  • Sleepyhead: Hiro is a narcoleptic, which is played both seriously and for humor. One comic shows him chugging Adderall and an energy drink just to give himself enough energy to finish his project. In "R and R", he cautions Officer Espinosa as they're starting to have sex that he's "a bit narcoleptic" and she shouldn't be insulted if he conks out; fortunately for her, he doesn't need to be awake to get the job done.

Part Two Main Characters:

    Max Pritchard
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/max_new_hat.png
Click to see him in Part 1
Max is the son of Adelie and Bella Pritchard and Izzy's nephew. He's a strange, often creepy, sometimes violent kid who isn't very popular but is known to not be one to mess with; that said, he does have a dedicated circle of friends and acquaintances. He's quite smart and has a sizeable vocabulary, although as he's gotten older, it's trended toward the profane.

Originally a supporting character throughout Part 1, he becomes the comic's main character in Part 2 after his aunt gets married.

  • Ax-Crazy: Downplayed; he's not vicious or murderous, but his sanity is somewhat questionable and violence is usually his default response to people who cross him, and he's not above hurting strangers to get his way.
Calixta: Well, we'll have AC for a little while. Until it gets b-broken again...
Max: That kid dumped my lunch tray! I had to suplex him into SOMETHING! I'm only human!
Bee: I think the jury's still out on that!
  • The Apprentice: In "Ara", Len offers for Max to be hers as her tarot cards foretold in Vol. 6, but he refuses because he "don't need any help being crazy." He eventually winds up accepting the offer in exchange for Len signing off on Max forming his own school club.
  • Big Brother Instinct: When informed by a killer android from the future (who just walked out of a plane crash unscathed) that they're planning on murdering his infant cousin, his immediate response is to punch it in the face so hard that it cracks their faceplate.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Calixta; they more-or-less have been together since the day they met in elementary school.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: While it's not every other word, once he discovered profanity, he rarely speaks without it.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Max's eyes and hair are both an unnaturally vivid shade of red. Whether this has anything to do with his unusual parentage or any other factor hasn't been revealed yet.
  • Determinator: On the evening of the school dance, Max is kidnapped, and then attacked by a puma once he gets free of them. He manages to make it to the dance; he may be mauled and covered in blood, but be damned if he's going to stand up Calixta.
  • Expressive Accessory: His hat in Part 2 has a smiley face button that often changes with his mood.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: He actually met Calixta before they started attending school together when he helped save her from a kidnapping by yelling "Stranger Danger" (which alerted her Battle Butler to their location). One of the kidnappers kicked him in the head to get him to shut up and ended up giving him a concussion, so he doesn't actually remember the event until Calixta reminds him of it years later.
  • Gag Penis: While we never actually see it due to him being underaged, Max is mentioned at multiple points to be rediculously well endowed for his age.
  • Homosexual Reproduction: He is the result of this trope; his mothers Adelie and Bella are both his biological parents, as the latter's eggs were converted into artificial sperm which were used to fertilize the former.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: During Max's "AM I YOUR BOYFRIEND?!" speech in "Boyfriend Material", he tells Calixta that, if she chooses to break up with him even after he and his friends stood up to her family, he'll respect her decision and leave her alone, even if he admits that it will "suck[s] major balls."
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Max is a profane, anti-social and violent little tool, but he is a decent kid at heart and does care greatly for those he personally knows (like his friends and family), especially his girlfriend Calixta who helps bring out his good side more and treats her the nicest out of anyone in the comic.
  • Jerkass to One: Inverted; Max generally acts like a snarky, foul-mouthed, occasionally violent douche toward everyone (including his friends and, to a lesser extent, his family). However, when he's around his girlfriend Calixta, he drops his more nastier traits, treats her with kindness (at least his own brand of kindness) and genuinely tries to be a good boyfriend to her, as especially evidenced in the "How Do I" mini-arc. In fact, it's displayed much earlier on when Calixta shows Max a drawing she made of the two of them together.
Calixta: *shyly hands Max a piece of paper* M-Max I drew a picture of us...
Max: *rudely snatches it from her* GIMME THAT!
[The picture is a crude, Animesque drawing of them standing under a heart with stars in the background]
Max: *genuinely impressed* Holy crap. This is AMAZING! *he says as a smiling, blushing Calixta happily punches his cheek*
  • Loners Are Freaks: Max isn't the most popular kid, mostly due to his filthy mouth and violent tendencies. It's not really helped by the fact that most of his peers are afraid of him, mostly for the same reasons why he isn't popular. Thankfully, he does gain a small but dedicated group of friends over the course of his appearances in the comic.
  • Neurodiversity Is Supernatural: Subverted. He does have some sort of mental illness and can see magic, but the two are unrelated.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Unless he's in a really good mood, his facial expression never drifts much away from a scowl.
  • Rage Breaking Point: In "Spaghetti Bandit" and "Tower Formation", he is particuarly enraged over seeing Calixta getting plattered with the stuff. Indeed, when he crawls through the ventilation shaft, veins pop all over his body and he gives a crazed, murderous look toward his persuer.
  • Sanity Slippage: He was always kind of nuts, but as a result of him forgetting to take his meds, Max begins to have a headache in "Tracking", which soon evolves into him hearing voices in his head in "Wait". To top it off, his irises start splitting in the final panel, much like his grandmother when she began losing her sanity in "Unknown, Unknowable".
  • Scars Are Forever: Zig-zagged. As a result of being attacked by a mountain lion, he now has four long scars running across his chest and belly. However, a graft taken from his butt repaired a bite on his arm well enough that it's not visible.
  • Split Personality: "Who" implies that, like his grandmother, Max has one in the form of Min, his imaginary friend.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: In "Blown Away," his girlfriend Calixta now towers over him.
    Max: Wow, Calixta you...changed.
    Calixta: Y-you think so?
Max: *the middle panel reveals that Calixta is now a foot or two taller than Max and he's looking up at her as she shyly looks down* Yeah a fuckin' little bit!
  • Through the Eyes of Madness: In part 1, it's established that Max's perception of the world is very unusual. In "Cross-Eyed", he sees some kind of monster behind Cricket, and in "Cooling Off", he sees Calixta as a demon-like creature. However, in both cases Max seems to think this is perfectly normal. This returns in part 2; Max still sees Calixta as the same creature (albeit with her current height and proportions) while he sees Robin as a mix of her Galiath and Scarab costumes. Later on, in "Eyes", it's revealed that he's actually viewing people's astral forms due to his ability to naturally percieve magic.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He acts snarky and rude (and sometimes violent) towards his friends, especially Cricket. The only one Max is actually nice (which for him means not being a complete, psychotic jerk) to is Calixta.
  • Warrior Prince: Well, warrior marquess at any rate, as Adelie is officially a duchess. This is the same kid who took on three kidnappers and a panther in quick sucession (the latter of which he did unarmed) when he was in middle school.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Max is noticably tenser than usual during the "Two Worlds" arc in Vol. 8, clearly wanting to avoid the Festival of Fools and getting the Courtroom Circues over with. This is noticed by Kavya and Cricket, who asks Max if he's Afraid of Clowns in the epilogue. Max replies by tackling him, implying that this is the case.
  • Wrestler of Beasts: He once beat a panther by kicking it in the crotch.

    Min
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/min_2.png
Click to see her unmasked (SPOILER WARNING)
A old, cursed hanging dummy Izzy and Addy used to have, made by Izzy to curse/scare off someone stalking Adelie. Given to Max as a toy by his mom, she comes to life only when he's around, as his imaginary(...?) friend.

  • Animate Inanimate Object: She can move, walk and talk on her own but only when Max is around.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: It's implied/theorized within the comic that Min's whole existence is tied to one's strong belief that she does exist. When Max asks Len if Min is real, Len asks in turn if he thinks she's real.
  • Cooldown Hug: In "Polarity", as Max is suffering a terrible breakdown, she arrives to sooth and help ground him back to reality. She implies that this wasn't the first time she had to do this.
  • Expy: Of Hobbes the stuffed tiger, from Calvin and Hobbes. Or rather Tyler Durden from Fight Club as of "Who".
  • Not-So-Imaginary Friend: She's physically real, but is otherwise an inanimate dummy to other people except Max. In "Fly", it's implied that she can interact with and even touch others but is otherwise practically invisible to them, as evidenced when she starts messing around with Len. In "Obsidian", Cricket and Bee both see her in the obsidian mirror, leading Max to start to explain who she is.
  • She Is All Grown Up: Played with. In the first strips of Part 2 of the comic, Max sees her with a human-sized and very feminine body when she's talking to him, although he also sees the actual Min doll as it is.
  • Split Personality: In "Who", when she unmasks herself in front of Max, her face resembles a female version of him. It heavily implies that Min is actually another identity in Max's head, much like his grandmother and her personalities. "Tagged-In" seems to further confirm this, as Min is able to temporarily take over his body after Cronus knocks him out.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Like Hobbes, she gives Max advice regarding his various tribulations. Unlike Hobbes, however, she'll not hesitate to tell Max EXACTLY what she thinks of him.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about her here nowadays since the reveal of her basically being Max's opposite gender Split Personality.

    Cricket
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cricket_9.png
Click to see him in Part 1
One of Max's friends in school (one of the first human friends he ever made, actually). He's the more normal kid among Max's social circle, usually both patient and annoyed by the craziness around him.

  • Black Bead Eyes: Color-inverted in his case; they're always white and don't change like Noah's do.
  • Foil: His stability, snarky wit, and occasional exasperation provide a good contrast to Max's abrasive personality and weirdness.
  • Nerd Glasses: Invoked by Max when he gets glasses to correct his poor vision, which leads to them fighting.
Max: You look like a dork and a nerd had a baby and the baby wears corrective shoes.
  • Nobody Calls Me "Chicken"!: In "Antifreeze", Vanitas invites Cricket to do the school fundraiser with him, where whoever sells the most candy is given a grand prize (in this case, a go-cart). The latter refuses, both because he'd "rather eat his own teeth" than spend time with Vanitas and that he's pessimistic about his chances. When Bee jokingly calls him a "pussy", however, an offended Cricket instantly changes his mind.
  • No Guy Wants to Be Chased: Cricket is very much aware of Bee's interest in him and, while not completely unreciprocated, is put off by how open and forceful she is about it.
Cricket: [when asked how he and Bee are celebrating Valentine's Day] With nothing.
Bee: Did I not tell you about our plans?
Cricket: You did. I'm just choosing to ignore them.
  • Only Sane Man: He's the sanest and calmest presence among Max and the others.
  • Tsundere: Somewhat toward Bee; he often plays it cool and disinterested whenever Bee makes a very obvious move on him, but he obviously cares about her a lot more than he lets on.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He and Max regularly trade barbs, and at one point blows, but they are still friends.

    Bee

Beatriz Montoya "Bee" De la Rosa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bee_0.png
Click to see her in Part 1
A boisterous, high-spirited girl with strange, spiraled eyes. She's part of Max's group of friends and is probably the most friendly among them.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: She has a crush on Cricket and is very open about it. Downplayed as she's not ugly and Cricket isn't unreciprocative, but her extreme forwardness often puts him off. Often times, she'll even force him to go on a date with her, like in the "How Do I" arc.
Cricket: No way, bro. Dances are the real deal. Girls are all about that kind of romantic bullshit. Not me though. No way in hell am I going.
Bee: *smugly* It's hilarious that you actually believe that.
  • Ambiguously Brown: She's noticeably dark-skinned, but unlike Tanya (who is African-American) and Hashim and Xoltan (who are Egyptian), her ethnicity has yet to be revealed. Invoked in "Reuse" after Bee says that her family is recycling their Christmas tree for Black History Month.
Max: Wait a minute, are you even black?
    Bee: *shrugs* I'unno.
  • Comically Cross-Eyed: Bee's eyes are so incredibly crossed that her pupils form purple spirals. She can uncross them, but only briefly and it tires her out to try.
  • Cool Kid-and-Loser Friendship: With Brittany, of all people thanks to the two of them having been paired up in science class. She even hovers on being a Morality Pet, seeing how she's probably the only person that Brittany's actually nice to without some sort of ulterior motive.
  • Genki Girl: She's a bouncing ball full of energetic spirit and never seems to calm down.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Bee doesn't seem to notice that she's making Callie extremely angry when she prods on her being a princess and a chimera. She gets punched in the face as a result.
  • Love at First Punch: When she discovers that this is how Calixta shows affection to Max, she immediately wants to do the same to Cricket.
  • Nice Girl: She's the more welcoming and kindest among Max's friends, besides Calixta.
  • Perky Goth: When she appears in Part 2, she's sporting a new look she describes as "Desposed Queen of the Mall Goths in exile after her chateau in Berlin is sacked by the food court proletariat", but her mood is still very much the same.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Cricket is actually rendered speechless when he sees her in a dress during her quinceañera.
  • Shoe Slap: After her quinceanera, she officially gains the ability to use la chancla on people, something she ends up doing to great effect when fighting Calixta's younger sister.

    Vanitas and the Nevershould

Vanitas

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vanitas_0.png
Click to see him in Part 1
An obnoxious goth boy who hangs around Max and his group of friends.

  • Ambiguously Human: He's got pointed ears and Scary Teeth, but otherwise seems human, with no official word otherwise.
  • Amicable Exes: After a nasty break-up, and talking things out in the janitor's closet, he and his ex-girlfriend Andromeda become stronger friends, even hanging out and flirting with girls together.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Like Cricket's, his are colored white.
  • Cool Shades: He sported a pair in the beginning of Part 2. Knowing him, he probably wore them with the intent of looking cool.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Due to his obnoxious attitude and annoying Verbal Tic, it's pretty obvious that Max and the gang, except Calixta and Bee (to a lesser extent), barely tolerate him, especially Cricket who really doesn't care for him. Even Calixta admits that she often gets tired of hanging out with him all the time in "Last Pieces."
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: During the "How Do I" arc, he tells Calixta that he'll beat Max up on her behalf if he doesn't give her a good time during the school dance.
  • Likes Older Women: Repeatedly finds excuses to hang out with Max so he can ogle Izzy, and one arc sees him eschew a Catholic girls' school class in favor of hitting on the nun that's supervising them.
  • Perky Goth: He's generally an obnoxious and edgy brat, but he does seem to be a relatively happy kid despite his appearance.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Him and Calixta, whom he considers his "beeeeest henchman." They are always hanging around together whenever they're not with Max and his friends and have displayed zero romantic interest in each other. In fact, he was the one who introduced Calixta to Max.
  • Romantic Wingman: "Slap" has him introduce Max to Calixta, effectively helping his "henchman" begin her relationship with the former.
  • Scary Teeth: His teeth are all pointed and sharp-looking.
  • Stacy's Mom: In "Infatuated", he comes home with Max so he can ogle Izzy.
[Max and Vanitas are playing a video game]
Max: C'mon, Vanitas, we're getting creamed here! Focus!
Vanitas: *staring at Izzy's boobs* Aw, don't wooooorry...I'm pretty fooooocused.
  • Those Two Guys: When not with Max and the others, he mostly hangs around Calixta.
  • Verbal Tic: He has a strange tic of stretching out the vowel sounds in random words, making them rather awkward-sounding. It's unclear whether this is just something about him or an affect he puts on to go along with his gothy appearance, since he doesn't do it all the time.
Schooooool's starting up again in a week. Aaaaanyone else feel like killing themseeeeelves?
  • With Friends Like These...: He may be friends with Max and the others, but that doesn't mean he won't screw them over in some capacity. For instance, in "Sellout", he seemingly helps Max escape Chocly by going through the other side of the electric closet....only for Max to instantly run into Chocly.
Max: YOU SOLD ME OUT YOU HIDEOUS CHICKEN-BANDIT!
Vanitas: IT'S YOU OR ME, MAAAAAAX! EVERY KID FOR HIMSELF!

The Nevershould

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nevershould_0.png
A mysterious entity that is bonded to Vanitas. He is a creature composed of "congealed regret", saying things that people only keep within their minds.

  • Our Ghosts Are Different: As described above. he's congealed regret in the shape of a friendly boy and can bond with you without any known side effects.
  • Painting the Medium: His speech bubbles, like his form, are solid black and amorphous, and his speech is rendered in alternating lowercase and uppercase letters.
  • The Symbiote: We don't know the exact details of their relationship (it is mentioned that Vanitas and Calixta found him in a drain pipe) and the thing isn't really parasitic to him, but the Nevershould seems bonded to the boy in some way.

    Calixta

Calixta Hecate Goetias

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calixta_7.png
Click to see her in Volume 9 (SPOILER WARNING)
Click to see her in Part 1
A painfully shy and sweet girl who seems to only express her feelings through hurting people. She is Max's girlfriend.

  • Betty and Veronica: Once Brittany develops a crush on Max in the "Power Struggle" arc, Calixta finds herself in a particuarly violent version of this dynamic; she's the sweet, shy yet still dangerous Betty to Brittany's more mundane (until she gets superpowers), stuck-up, flighty Veronica.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Unlike Hashim, Tanya and Sarah, Calixta had yet to have shown a more vicious side to her usual Nice Girl demeanor, until Part 2:
    • In "Spaghetti Bandit", Calixta gets pelted with spaghetti by the mysterious individual who has been doing the same to every other student in the school. Naturally, Max gets pissed off by this. However, in "Tower Formation", Calixta herself is.... a little peeved.
Calixta: T-they... made me look s-s-s-stupid... In f-front of Max. [beat] (glaring, trembling with rage) I'MUNNA FUCKIN KILLEM.
    • She also locks Callie in a full nelson when she lunges at Max after the latter made a snide remark toward her.
    • Max reveals to Vanitas' ex Andromeda in "Bro Code" that he brought her along to their confrontation, and Calixta is clearly in no mood to simply talk to her as she reaches her hand toward her to do something unspeakable.
    • When she and Ashley, Max's cousin from the Bad Future, are searching for the Forbidden Section of the school library, Calixta shows that she's still pissed about the fact that Max gets together with Brittany in that timeline.
Ashley: (after an awkward Beat) So Max was dating you in this time, huh?
Calixta: (raising her hands as if to begin strangling her) YOU LOOKIN' TO GET KRUMPED, YOU LITTLE PUKE STAIN?!
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Much like Darcy before her, Calixta proves herself to be quite strong for a girl her age. In "Attraction", this is taken to its zenith; she is completely unaffected by Brittany's Omega force powers as she keeps walking despite the latter's attempts to just swat her away. "Grounded" shows that she works out with her father, which (along with her latent magical abilities) does explain why she's so strong.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Max; they more-or-less have been together since the day they met in elementary school.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She doesn't like anyone trying to steal Max away from her, as her interactions with Brittany will tell you. Needless to say, once Max brings Ashley to his timeline, she doesn't take learning that Brittany is Max's wife there too well...
    Calixta: (crushing Max's head) F-fuck d-does she m-mean "WHERE'S AUNT BRITTANY?!"
  • Covert Pervert:
    • In "Razzlin", when the rest of the gang tease Max over the homosexual undertones of his roughhousing with Cricket, she admits that she wouldn't mind seeing Max "have his way" with Cricket. On her birthday, Bee so helpfully adds.
    • Her essay on Key Manati's royal family in "Burger Format" contains a Freudian Slip about her wanting to have sex with Max.
    • The comic she creates in "Comix" involves a red-orange haired boy telling a purple-haired girl that she's his "property" and that he'll "do with [her] as [he'll] please"; given Cricket's reaction, it's pretty clear it's supposed to be her and Max.
Cricket: The FUCK do you want that poor boy to DO to you?
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Combined with Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises; Calixta's bright, violet eyes dull whenever she gets exceptionally angry.
  • Girlish Pigtails: It was her main hairdo during the first two volumes of Part 2.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: As part of her She's All Grown Up moment, Calixta ends up receiving quite a bit of attention from the boys in the hallway... and even one female student.
  • Heel: Her wrestling persona, "Maiden in the Iron Mask", is presented as arrogant and boastful, quite the opposite to how Calixta usually is. In "Promo", she uses this act to help further Callie and Basil's relationship by disparaging Callie in front of everyone in the Ocean Festival, spurring an enraged Basil to defend her.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Calixta has gotten a bit of a growth spurt in Part 2, as she now towers over her boyfriend Max as shown in "Blown Away."
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Gender-flipped here; Upon learning that Andromeda broke up with her best friend Vanitas and is acting quite bitchy about it and toward her boyfriend Max, Calixta wordlessly proceeds to do something to her, but it's clearly presumed it will be violent. In fact, Max actually brought her along for this exact reason.
  • Important Haircut: The start of Vol. 9, "Delay", shows that Calixta has cut her hair into a pixie cut.
Calixta: (in Max's magic aura vision) H-hey. Wh-what do you think?
Max: (sounding a bit grumpy) Your kicky new haircut is flirty and fun. I did not think it was possible for me to love you more and yet here we are, miracle of miracles.
    Calixta: (offended) H-hey!
Cricket: No, he's being serious. He's just a grumpy bear right now on account of his meds ain't kicked it.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Downplayed. She starts getting hot and bothered when Max gets into a fistfight with Cricket, and her favorite photo of him is when he's covered in blood.
  • Insecure Love Interest: She's desperate to want Max to think she's cool, hence why she gets violently angry when the Spaghetti Bandit splatters her in front of him and why she's keeping her involvement with the wrestling club a secret.
  • Lacerating Love Language: Calixta expresses her affection towards Max through physically assaulting him. Thankfully, her acts of violence are generally harmless (if still quite painful) and limited to just punches and wrestling moves.
  • Love at First Punch: Her first appearance has her slap Max across the face, Vanitas explaining that that's her way of saying she likes him. Max shows his reciprocation by...lightly punching her arm. She's estatic anyway. Later on, she's so happy to be holding hands with Max that she turns it into an armbar.
    • At the start of the "How Do I" storyline, she happily accepts Max's date to the school dance and, in her excitement, punches him in the face.
    • When she reunites with Max on the first day of high school, she once again puts him in an armbar as way of expressing her joy at seeing him again.
Calixta: *as she's twisting his arm* Aww, I m-missed you M-Max!
      Max: *clearly in pain* HLAUGH!
  • Nice Girl: She's generally a pleasant, unassuming girl in spite of her quirks.
  • Mafia Princess: "Magia" reveals that Calixta comes from a powerful and ruthless family of mages who acts like a mafia family, who used their talents to gain wealth and influence. Min even shouts out the trope name in the final panel.
  • Morality Pet: Downplayed as Max isn't evil, just a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. However, Calixta seems to help him show that golden heart more often than most people can. She's also the only person in the comic who Max doesn't act like a jerk to.
  • Motherly Side Plait: A non-maternal example; she had a ponytail she draped over to her side when she was younger.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Her and Vanitas. They are always hanging around together whenever they're not with Max and his friends and have displayed zero romantic interest in each other. In fact, Vanitas was the one who introduced Calixta to Max.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Calixta gets extremely angry and murderous upon getting pelted with spaghetti in "Tower Formation." Mostly because the incident made her look stupid in front of her boyfriend.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: She uses her status as "the consort of the heir apparent of the duchy of Key Manati" to threaten a store clerk that tried to scold her for eating candy before paying it. She admits to the Nevershood afterewards that it was all a bluff since Max doesn't actually have any authority.
  • She's All Grown Up: When she appears in "Blown Away", she is noticably taller and more mature-looking than the rest of Max's gang. As she's walking toward them, other boys (and one girl) in the hallway are stunned.
  • Shrinking Violet: She's always shown to be very shy, quiet and nervous. Plus, her hair is literally colored purple. She does get better once she joins Max's group and starts dating him.
  • Skewed Priorities: In "Tower Formation", she's more upset about getting embarrased in front of Max than getting covered with spaghetti.
  • Speech Impediment: Calixta speaks with a stutter, which is meant to showcase her shyness. It's later revealed that she inherited it from her mother Xierdra.
Bee: Toldja. Naked boys on the internet.
    Calixta: *blushing heavily* T-that's a b-b-b-big p-p-penis... I didn't know th-they g-g-g-got that b-b-b-big...
  • Speech-Impeded Love Interest: She especially stutters around her crush/boyfriend Max. Max himself admits at certain points that he actually loves her stutter and thinks it's cute.
  • Stutter Stop: She can talk without her stutter if she puts in the effort, though she usually reserves this for her wrestling persona.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: She and Max now have this dynamic as of "Blown Away"; she's noticably a foot taller than her boyfriend now.
  • Those Two Guys: When not around Max and the others, she mostly hangs with Vanitas.
  • Tranquil Fury: In "Bro Code", she almost robotically lunges toward Andromeda, carrying a emotionless expression throughout but it's clear she intends to do something violent toward her.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: More-or-less becomes one in Part 2; whenever someone either threatens Max or even makes her look bad in front of him, she will drop her shy demeanor and become much more angry and violent.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Calixta is a fan of wrestling, as she states in "Rendezous"; she regularly puts some wrestling moves on Max or various other characters and even joins a professional wrestling club in her high school but she's keeping it a secret from Max because she wants to be good enough to impress him. She does reveal her secret to him in "Finishing Move".
  • What Does She See in Him?: A platonic example; Calixta considers Vanitas her best friend and, considering his grating personality, no one quite knows why. That said, even she has issues with him sometimes, as implied in "Last Pieces" when asked by Max whether or not she'll join the music club....
    Calixta: My be-best friend is V-V-Vanitas. My d-days have eno-no-nough megalomanical ra-ranting.
  • Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises: Combined with Dull Eyes of Unhappiness above; her eyes noticably shrink when she gets mad.

    Orion

Orion "The Mantid Kid"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/orion_4.png
A member of the school's Professional Wrestling team, Orion is an friendly, excitable teen who bases his attitude on life entirely from Shonen anime. He eventually joins Max and his friends.
  • Ambiguously Gay: When Bee attempts to tease Max over his girlfriend "going off with another man", Max and Orion both struggle not to laugh while an exasperated Cricket informs her "that's not an issue in this particular case". On the other hand, he is a giant weeaboo, so maybe he's only into 2D women. On the other other hand, one of his favourite anime is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, a show Max took one look at and dismissed as being nothing but gay porn (it's not, but it's also entirely understandable how he'd get that impression from just a glance).
  • Fanboy: He's described as a "big weeb" in his bio, being practically raised on watching nothing but anime. He's also a fan of Miss Mantis, as he based his entire wrestling persona around her.
  • Large Ham: As befitting a young man raised on Shonen anime and professional wrestling, Orion has a big personality and loves to express that constantly.
Orion: YO! Who wants to step into the ring? Inspired by the greatest hero of all time, a NEW star rises! FEEL the RIPPLING power level of the MANTID KID! And one day... I'm gonna be KING OF THE RING! Mantastic!
  • Lovable Jock: He's captain of the wrestling team and he's also sweet, supportive and cordial.
  • Nice Guy: He's extremely cordial, warm-hearted and encouraging, always there to support his friends.
  • Sixth Ranger: More like "Eighth Ranger" if you count Min as part of Max's group despite no one besides Max being able to see her; he doesn't officially join the main cast until around the end of Volume 7.

    Ashley

Ashley Lockheart

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2024_03_28_at_90929am.png

The protagonist of Rainbow Skies Forever, Kirsty and Lucian's future daughter, and Max's future cousin. She comes to the present to try and prevent the events of her comic from happening, inhabiting a female clone of Max in the meantime.

For tropes about her outside Ennui GO!, check out RSF's character page there.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: The events of Rainbow Skies Forever are treated as hers, with good reason.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In her timeline, Max ended up having a falling out with Calixta and marrying Brittany. This makes her interactions with present-day Calixta...pretty awkward, to say the least.
  • Rainbow Motif: She tends towards clothing and accessories with rainbow patterns on them, referencing the title of her debut series.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Her goal is to try and prevent the Bad Future she comes from from ever happening.
  • Token Good Teammate: She seems to have less loose morals than the rest of Max's friends, acting disturbed whenever they bring up their shadier activities.
  • Walking Spoiler: Big time. Everything about her existence spoils the overarching plot of volume 9, as well as the events of Rainbow Skies Forever.
  • Younger Than They Look: The clone body she inhabits is one of Max, who's a couple years older than she was when she traveled back in time.
