Leader

    Sinbad
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sinbad_239511.jpg

The King of Sindria and the leader of the Seven Seas Alliance. He captured the very first dungeon and went on to capture six more after that. After the time skip he abandons his role as Sindria's King and spearheads both the Sindria Trading Company and the International Alliance in order to get closer to his goal of creating a peaceful world devoid of war.

  • The Ace: Sinbad is the classic example. He seems to be capable of accomplishing anything he puts his mind too. He is known the world over for the novels he wrote chronicling his adventures. Everyone acknowledges how amazing he is and the protagonist of the story, Alibaba, feels inadequate next to Sinbad. He even ended up as the Hero of Another Story by becoming the protagonist of the story's prequel, Adventure of Sinbad. Sinbad seems to have been Born Lucky, as his birth caused a ripple effect in the Rukh, which was sensed by Yunan, Scheherazade, Matal Mogamett, and Arba. Yunan went so far as to call Sinbad's birth a miracle. Sinbad was the first person in the world to conquer a dungeon, after over 10,000 soldiers from the Parthevia Empire failed to do so. In the present day he has more metal vessels than anyone else in the world, with a total of 7. Aladdin states that he has more Magoi than anyone else in the world. Sinbad also explains that he is able to read the flow of the waves or see destiny, which seems to take the form of the Rukh actively guiding him down the best paths for his own success. This has led to him wracking up accomplishments as a storyteller, merchant, adventurer, diplomat, king, etc. Somewhat played with, however, in that by the time of the present day he is also a Broken Ace.
  • The Alcoholic: Ja'far notes that they have gone through many troubles thanks to Sinbad's mismanagement of alcohol. During the Balbadd arc, after consuming so much alcohol that he passes out on the streets, the Nando brothers come along and steal his things including his metal vessels which makes the subsequent conflicts a whole lot more difficult to deal with. There's also one time, although it's Played for Laughs, when Ren Kougyoku accuses Sinbad of violating her after she finds herself in bed with his naked, reeking-of-alcohol body. It turns out to be a misunderstanding.
Eight Generals: "Like we would believe the words of a drunkard!"
  • Always Someone Better: He's not called a "first class singularity" for nothing. In fact, for pretty much every new adventure the heroes go on, Sinbad has some kind of advice to give them from his own experience.
  • Anti-Magic: He has the ability to cancel Magoi using a technique. The same technique also enables him to support other Magoi users no matter the elemental compatibility.
  • Ascended to a Higher Plane of Existence: He's now the Top God following his usurping of the Rukh.
  • Assassin Outclassin': When on the receiving end of an attempted assassination by Ja'far, Sinbad held him him off singlehandedly before knocking him out with Baal.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Sinbad is pretty much the In-Universe Ur-Example, as he was the very first dungeon conqueror, which gave him the power to become a king and even found his own country.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: One of his favourite positions, particularly when he's boasting.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: As we see in Adventure of Sinbad, he despised rulers that were only looking out for their own interests and worked to become the kind of king that treated his subjects with respect. By the final arc, he's become a literal God, imposing his will on the whole universe before Aladdin and crew smack some sense into him.
  • Berserk Button: Never insinuate that he's getting old.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: If you happen to be a member of Al-Thamen, he will utterly annihilate you without hesitation.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: The moment he stops smiling and goofing around, shit gets terrifying.
  • Big Bad: Ultimately has become this for the final arc, but ends up leaving the role to David in the final battle, joining the white Rukh.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He gained most of his younger household through protecting and saving them. This acts up when he's with Aladdin and co. as well.
  • Big Brother Mentor: He plays this role to most of his younger subordinates and allies, including Ja'far, Masrur, Sharrkan, Aladdin, Alibaba, and Hakuryuu.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Tends to do this a lot. Of note are defeating Al-Thamen in Balbadd, and bringing an entire army to deliver the final blow to the Medium in Magnostadt.
  • Big Good: Technically this is his role, and he does his best to fulfill it. But because his actions slowly start dipping into more and more questionable antics, he makes himself out to be a very shady version of this trope.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Not to a ridiculous extent, but his eyebrows are drawn noticeably thicker and darker than other characters. Which only makes him more strikingly attractive. He got them from his mother Esra.
  • Blunt "Yes": He unashamedly responds in the affirmative when Aladdin asks him if he was responsible for the change in Rukh.
  • Breakout Character: He gets his own spinoff manga, detailing how he got his Metal Vessels and how he met his generals.
  • Break the Haughty: Sinbad goes through this in the Umm Madaura arc of Adventure of Sinbad.
  • Broken Ace: Not only is he one of the most powerful people in the world, he's also conquered seven Dungeons, forged a country, and possesses a brilliant strategic mind. Over time however, he's revealed to have a darker side. During the course of his adventures to create the kingdom of Sindria, Sinbad was forced to make some difficult choices, including abandoning the people from his hometown after they had been experimented on by Barbarossa. This and other events cause him to begin resenting the fact that he's become someone he never wanted to be. By the present he is halfway fallen into depravity and is growing more and more into being what he hates. By the start of the final arc, Sinbad has become the Big Bad, the farthest from what he wanted to be.
  • Broken Pedestal: In Chapter 212, Alibaba saw the nasty side of Sinbad.
    • The prequels show Yunan and Sinbad being friends and inspiring each other. Yunan choose Sinbad the same way Aladdin choose Alibaba. Yet something seems to have caused a falling out leading to the present day acrimony.
  • Broken Tears: After being Made a Slave in Adventure of Sinbad, Sinbad is put through weeks of physical and psychological torture by Umm Madaura. It is so severe he stops reacting to anything at all. This continues until he is put to work a and finds a sick child among the slaves he is looking after. When he brings up the situation to the slave above him Madaura appears and Sindbad fears he will be punished again. Instead, she gives him motherly affection and tells him he did a good job. Despite knowing it is a trick, Sinbad finds himself unable to stop crying.
  • Brought Down to Badass: In the Balbadd arc. His Metal Vessels were stolen, yet he's not incompetent without them; he manages to be badass just with Magoi Manipulation and charisma.
  • The Chains of Commanding: It's implied that he never wanted to hold so much responsibility.
  • The Charmer: Perhaps unconsciously. Maybe.
  • The Chessmaster: Just about every act of kindness or generosity he performs actually has an ulterior motive towards uniting the world. Whether or not this will cross into full-blown Utopia Justifies the Means territory remains to be seen.
  • The Chosen One: The very first Chosen One, actually. In fact, because all Djinn get some free will in deciding who to follow, he's been chosen seven times over. Then the Powers That Be said "that's enough".
  • Close-Call Haircut: Kougyoku's greeting when she hitchhikes on Hakuryuu's visit to Sindria.
  • Commitment Issues: Whenever marriage is brought up to Sinbad, he always waves off the idea, saying that he doesn't have any plans of ever getting married.
  • Cool Sword: One of his Metal Vessels. Adventure of Sinbad reveals that it's his father's sword.
  • The Corruption: Resists Ithnan's curse, because he is already halfway to The Dark Side.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Sinbad has always been reckless, but the thing is he's just strong enough to get away with it.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Sinbad's preexisting curse had let him use black Rukh along with the standard white Rukh, which can make his attacks significantly more powerful. There are obvious drawbacks to using this power though, but so far he hasn't succumbed to its influence.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: It's mentioned in the manga that Sinbad had suffered a huge, devastating loss (perhaps a loved one) at some point before the present, which pushed him off of his Wide-Eyed Idealist pedestal and into Anti-Hero territory.
  • The Dark Side: Sinbad is halfway "fallen". Why or how have not been revealed, but it somewhat explains his Manipulative Bastard tendencies. It's implied that whatever made him fall halfway is part of why David is connected to him. This balance is very tightly maintained; he hasn't committed any Kick the Dog acts yet..
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: He basically needed to lose his metal vessels at the start of the Balbadd arc to keep him from resolving everything in a matter of minutes.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Sports these for awhile after being tortured when enslaved by Umm Madaura. He gets better.
  • Elemental Powers: Comes with his metal vessels. And with the equipment from seven different Djinn, he has quite a few.
  • Engineered Public Confession: Subverted, he does this to himself when Alibaba and Aladdin confront him on his plan to eliminate all conflicts forever by making everyone on the planet commit suicide and give their rukh to Sinbad. Because everyone's "spirits" are already controlled by Sinbad (aside from Alibaba and Aladdin) the whole planet agrees to die to ensure world peace.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: So much Foe Romance Subtext with Judar.
  • Fights Like a Normal: During the Balbadd arc. Justified because all of his metal vessels were stolen.
  • Foil: Underneath his good-natured smile, Sinbad is the Darker and Edgier version of Alibaba.
  • Foreshadowing: There's a few hints that Sinbad is connected to or a reincarnation of David. He is revealed to be halfway fallen into depravity fairly early on in the series. During that battle with Ithnan, Sinbad, referred to as the Singularity, is said to be Al-Thamen's most hated enemy besides Solomon. Arba's most hated enemy in Alma Toran was David, only betraying Solomon after she thought he had been eliminated. David also refers to himself as a Singularity in his creepy prophetic writings, and also says that Solomon is not a Singularity, but one will be born in the world that Solomon creates. The prequel series shows Sinbad growing in confidence as he becomes more experienced, but also becomes a bit of a megalomaniac. As time goes on, Sinbad shows himself to be more and more willing to manipulate or outright control people to protect his dream - brainwashing Kougyoku and interfering in the Kou civil war.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Sinbad was originally somewhat of a revolutionary, as the only reason why he entered his first dungeon was to get the power he needed to change his country.
  • Founder of the Kingdom: Created his own nation and as well his own alliance.
  • God-Emperor: What he wants to become using Solomon's Wisdom. He is convinced a god emperor is needed to eliminate strife from the world. He also believes Solomon was wrong to reject the role.
  • Gold and White Are Divine: Sinbad's character design combines this with Purple Is Powerful.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He chastises Alibaba and Hakuryuu for their weaknesses, and is more than happy to use military might to crush anyone who threatens Sindria.
  • The Good King: He is unconditionally adored by his people, and puts them first in every situation.
  • Guile Hero: Lampshaded by Ja'far. It's not surprising considering the world he lives in.
  • Hand-or-Object Underwear: Does it even need an explanation? He's even given the nickname "Leaf King" in the Japanese fandom, which is especially funny because "Leaf King" is a homophone for "High King".
  • Handsome Lech: He's slept with countless women in his time, and made a move on twice that many. To the extent that his subordinates totally believe he took advantage of Kougyoku.
  • The Heart: Of all of Sindria, and especially his generals.
  • Hero of Another Story: To the point that there's a side series devoted to his adventures.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Three of his Djinn Equips come with swords and the sword is his primary weapon in combat when not using the power of one of his Djinn.
  • Honor Before Reason: There are many instances in which Sinbad has to choose between his duty as a world leader and his ideals. This largely reflects that, despite some of his other less morally shiny actions, Sinbad is at heart still the same idealistic young man who wanted to change the world he was in the beginning.
    • When a starving mother who was going to rob a noble's home is going to accept a piece of leftover food thrown on the ground by said noble, Sinbad stops her and lets her and her companions rob the noble as long as they don't kill anyone. Later he declares that he wants to help the Fog Troupe because the King is unjust, which is insane because he's the king of another sovereign nation and had even agreed to defeat said Fog Troupe for said unjust King. Then, he offers to provide refuge and haven for Fog Troupe rebels if the King of Balbadd tries to crush them without further negotiations.
      • This can also be considered an inversion of the trope, as Sinbad cares more about doing what's right than honoring his business dealings.
    • Subverted, Sinbad eventually tells Alibaba that he will use any dirty trick to protect Sindria.
  • Hypocrite: Alibaba claims he is this, citing how Sinbad is ostensibly trying to make the world a better place for everyone, but his actions just so happen to benefit the people that work for and agree with him the most; and more than that, put Sinbad himself in the most important positions of whatever he's involved in.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: His justification for becoming a Guile Hero.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: For all his hype as a Handsome Lech, Sinbad doesn't give the scandalously-clad ladies that much thought at his parties...
  • Improbable Age: He was only 14 years old when he conquered Baal and Valefor's dungeons.
  • In Harmony with Nature: Even as a child, Sinbad was able to sense the will and flow of the waves at sea.
  • I Shall Return: Even after becoming one with the Rukh, he does promise to come back to the world, albeit with some coaxing from Alibaba.
  • KidAnova: Even at age 14, he liked to flirt with girls, such as Princess Serendine and Hinahoho's little sister Pipirika.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: The first time Sinbad pulls out his Djinn Equip almost makes one forget that we met him wandering naked in a jungle.
  • Like Father, Like Son: He and his father are incredibly similar in both looks and personality.
  • Living Legend: There's basically no one in-universe who hasn't heard of Sinbad and his adventures. That the latter have been written down and published helps.
  • Magic Knight: He has a incredible amount of magoi, and is able to manipulate it even without any djinn vessels.
  • Magnetic Hero: He attracted an entire country's worth of followers.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Is quite willing to use manipulation and underhanded schemes to gain power, and to protect Sindria. Kougyoku has already become his puppet, before its revealed that he's been using her as a unwitting spy.
  • Made a Slave: Was forced into slavery due to the machinations of Umm Madaura, after he lost to a young Masrur during a colosseum match in Reim.
  • The Mentor: Towards most of his Eight Generals, and Alibaba too.
  • Mind Rape: Used Zepar to turn Kougyoku into a Manchurian Agent, and is possibly doing the same to two other people.
  • Mirror Character: It's slowly revealed that while their execution is different, Sinbad is just as power-hungry as the Kou Empire's rulers, particularly Koen.. Only where Kou relies upon brute force, Sinbad tends to manipulate people into serving his needs.
  • Mr. Exposition: Occasionally, due to his status as the Seen It All Always Someone Better Mentor.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Even in a series as chock full of fanservice as Magi, nobody does it half as good as Sinbad. Especially with official artwork like this.
  • The Münchausen: Played with in one omake. Though he did have legitimately amazing stories.
  • Mysterious Past: The only things known about his past in Magi are tantalizing mini-flashbacks Sinbad refers to when giving advice to the next generation. Averted with the Adventure of Sinbad spin-off manga, however.
  • Naked First Impression: Has this with Aladdin and Morgiana.
  • Nice Guy: In the beginning, while still running around naive and ignorant of political intrigue, Sinbad was at an ungodly level of nice. Hell, he was even nice to Ja'far when they first met. Now he's still nice, but he's developed a dark side too. Funnily enough, even as he gradually sets upon his path to taking over the Sacred Palace many who know Sinbad continue to point out how nice of a person he is. After fighting with Sinbad and Arba, due to not wanting to help them enter the Sacred Palace, Aladdin specifically states that he likes Sinbad. In the final arc, both Yunan and Alibaba praise Sinbad as well, along with the world he's created, while also pointing out how uneasy they are about his connection to David in the same conversation
Aladdin: I like you, uncle. But I don't agree with what you plan to do.
Yunan to Alibaba: You know...Sinbad is a good guy. Furthermore, he aimed to become a king since childhood, because of the feelings he had toward his impoverished hometown, and his parents...and its also true that he is the best leader in the world right now...So...he is a kind man. I don't know if he is a God or not, but he is not someone whose heart could be taken over so easily!
  • No Hero to His Valet: Most of the time, his generals totally do not give him the respect he deserves as Sindria's founder and king.
  • Not Brainwashed: Reveals to the Arba possessed Hakuei that he knows David is connected to him, but everything he's doing is his own will and not David's.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Sinbad acts like a Pointy-Haired Boss a lot (he's even got the pointy hair!), but when he gets serious...
  • One-Man Army: He conquered a dungeon single-handed. In the Magnostadt arc, one lightning bolt from him causes almost as much damage to the Medium as six Metal Vessel users combined.
  • The Paragon: His character falls into this a little. For example, in the Balbadd arc his goal at first was to get Alibaba confident and powerful enough to take the crown.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Sinbad's default mode is happy and he tries to smile whenever he can. This gets especially funny when he comes home to Sindria after the six-month timeskip to find that Alibaba and Aladdin have sized up a bit. He can't take them seriously anymore, breaks the smiling act, and tells them to run.
    • The manga hints and prequel confirms, that a lot of it is a front. Not only do people underestimate a cheerful person, but a smiling man is much more likely to put someone at ease and make them less likely to attack you even when angry.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: His powerful wind and lightning element Djinn are on par with natural disasters.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: His hair turns black or blue depending on his Djinn Equip.
  • Protagonist Journey to Villain: A strange meta example. Sinbad is introduced as a good guy, but over the course of the series he gradually becomes more and more of a anti-hero. Finally, Sinbad is revealed to have a connection to David, and after he gains control of the Rukh and makes all the kingdoms' people agree with his policies, it becomes clear that Sinbad is becoming the ultimate Big Bad.
  • Public Domain Character: Sinbad, Sailor of the Seven Seas, of course. It seems that he actually did start out as a sailor before dungeon diving.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Has really long, dark purple hair and purple underrobes.
  • Really Gets Around: In the Volume 12 omake, Aladdin says he has slept with so many women he has more than 7000 kids. At the end, it turns out that all was just Sinbad having a nightmare.
  • Red Baron: Sinbad, the High King of the Seven Seasâ„¢.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: He wears a lot of gold and silver ornaments, although most of them are actually Metal Vessels.
  • Rousing Speech: A master of this trope. Sinbad has incredible charisma and power, which he uses to sway both his allies and his enemies to great effect.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Though the extent of what can be done varies, as he does have other duties to attend to.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Sinbad's modus operandi since he was a kid.
  • Seen It All: Sinbad has travelled the seven seas, conquered seven dungeons, and created his own country.
  • Secretly Selfish: Sinbad realizes in the end that all his acts were partially motivated by his innate desire to change the world, and even if he didn't have his family and friends as an excuse/motivation he would still have done his acts.
  • Self-Made Man: He was a nobody. Then he captured the first dungeon. The rest is history.
  • Sexy Man, Instant Harem: You don't have to be a king and one of the biggest badasses in the world to have girls with no underwear piling onto you, but it helps. Hell, this probably happened so often that he doesn't even try to enjoy it any more!
  • Shameless Fanservice Guy: The man just doesn't care about being naked. Even in Adventure of Sinbad when covering up with a fig leaf he says he did not mind staying naked, showing he has been this way for a long time.
  • Sleeps in the Nude: He takes his clothes off while sleeping sometimes.
  • Slipknot Ponytail: Sinbad's ponytail often comes loose when he goes full Djinn Equip.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Subverted. When first introduced, he gives his name and titles and is stunned when Aladdin doesn't recognize him. As the story progresses however, it is made clear that he really is that important.
  • Smug Super: Sinbad reveals he believes that only he can truly save humanity, and as such, they should listen to him forever.
  • Stripperiffic: Comes in seven different versions. Not to mention the fig leaf episode...
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He looks exactly like his father, Badr
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Befitting The Chosen One.
  • Superpower Lottery: By virtue of the fact that he has conquered 7 dungeons and therefore has access to 7 Djinn Equips, Sinbad would be this. Apart from the Djinn Equips, however, he was also born with a tremendous amount of Magoi, which is part of why he can even support that many Djinn to begin with. He has the ability to see "destiny" or the Rukh, which helps guide him in basic things, like how to travel safely through a storm, to more complex ones, such as how to dodge an opponent's attacks. Even the fact that he is halfway fallen into depravity is technically a superpower, as it allows him to casually use both the white and black Rukh. During his adventures he also learned how to manipulate his Magoi to interfere with the Magoi of others, allowing him to disrupt their magic techniques. Each of Sinbad's Djinn then gives him access to unique abilities.
    • Baal- Shock and Awe
    • Focalor- Blow You Away
    • Valefor- An Ice Person. This is actually accomplished by slowing the molecules around him, which allows him to slow his opponents movements as well.
    • Zepar- Super-Scream, which comes with the added benefit of Mind Manipulation on anyone who hears his screams. After which he also gains the ability of Seeing Through Another's Eyes via anyone he is controlling.
    • Vepar- Blade Spam via an attack known as Ten Thousand Sword Shower
    • Furfur- Beam Spam
    • Crocell- gains a Sinister Scimitar along with around a dozen Fireballs floating around him.
  • Supporting Leader: Really, Alibaba and Aladdin wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for Sinbad's support.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Fits the bill so perfectly that there's no way it wasn't intended.
  • Team Power Walk: After the six-month Time Skip, we get an awesome shot of him and the Generals who accompanied him to Kou walking back into his palace.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Despite showing Sinbad the path to change the world, and giving him the motivation to enter and conquer Baal, Yunan and Sinbad don't trust each other.
  • Tempting Fate: "Don't worry, I didn't do anything to Kougyoku." Cue Kougyoku, equipping her Djinn and seriously pissed off, ready for blood. Yes, it's actually a misunderstanding, but still...
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Sinbad usually oneshots opponents with attacks powerful enough to level islands.
  • The Rival: Was this to Drakon in their younger years.
  • Third Eye: In his Focalor and Zepar equips.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The Cool Sword he has as Baal's Metal Vessel, originally belonged to his father, who died in the very dungeon which Sinbad later conquered.
  • Unflinching Walk The first shot we get of him is his silhouette framed by the mysterious blue djinn carrying the treasure of dreams as he walks out of the collapsing dungeon Baal in Alibaba's rendition of his first adventure.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: When he was younger, and particularly when he fought Drakon in Baal's dungeon; he didn't have refined sword skills, but was strong enough to physically defeat him.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: Zigzagged throughout the series. He will do whatever he feels brings the world closer to his ideal version of a peaceful world, regardless of how this affects entire populations and later justifies his role in the Kou civil war with this argument. After he utilizes the Seven Seas Alliance to create a world devoid of war he is still determined to get to the Sacred Palace and obtain its power, just so no one can ever threaten that peace again. Most recently he used his control of the rukh to convince everyone on the planet (except Aladdin, Alibaba, and possibly Judar) to join in the rukh (die for Sinbad) to ensure there will be no conflicts anywhere forever because how can there be conflict if everyone's dead and their spirits are controlled by one man?.
  • Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys?: Has a lot of cool stuff from his adventures. It's nice that he shares.
  • Why Can't I Hate You?: Inverted; Aladdin doesn't really understand why, but there is something about Sinbad he believes makes him unworthy of being king.
  • The Wonka: Sinbad's well known for being an unconventional, laid-back, cheerful, skirt chaser of a drunkard but also for being the first dungeon conqueror and king of a peaceful and very successful kingdom.
  • World's Strongest Man: Based on Djinn capacity. Even Ren Kouen, the second most successful dungeon conqueror, has four fewer Djinn than Sinbad.
  • You Are Not Alone: How he won over Ja'far and Masrur, and potentially more of his generals.
  • You Are What You Hate: It's mentioned that Sinbad initially wanted to be king to protect people from overbearing, unjust, manipulative, and deceitful rulers.
  • You Have to Believe Me!: Played for Laughs when he's accused of deflowering Kougyoku.
  • Young Conqueror: He managed to conquer both Baal and Valefor's dungeons, all at just 14 years of age.

Eight Generals

Sindria Kingdom's strongest eight warriors and advisors to King Sinbad.

    In General

    Jafar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jafar_175311.jpg

One of Sinbad's eight generals who is immensely loyal towards him and frequently suffers as a result. He used to be a child assassin of the organization "Sham Lash", which served the Parthevia Empire.

Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese), Lucien Dodge (English)

    Masrur
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/masrur_175313.jpg

One of Sindria's eight generals, who used to be a gladiator in the Reim Empire. Like Morgiana, he is also a former slave and a descendant of the Fanalis Tribe.

Voiced by: Yoshimasa Hosoya (Japanese), Keith Silverstein (English)

    Sharrkan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sharrkan_197407.jpg

One of Sindria's eight generals. Regarded as the best swordsman in Sindria. He is assigned by Sinbad to train Alibaba in swordsmanship. Often gets into fights with a fellow general, Yamraiha. He came from Heliohapt.

Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo (Japanese), Ray Chase (English)

  • Ambiguously Brown: Subverted. He comes from Heliohapt, a Fantasy Counterpart Culture of Ancient Egypt, which makes his skin tone justified.
  • Badass Teacher: For Alibaba.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Hurting or trying to kill Alibaba will result in it being pressed.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Has shades of this with Alibaba.
  • Butt-Monkey: His infatuation with Yamraiha is constantly played for laughs, if it doesn't involve kicking ass he's hopeless at it, and his junior Masrur is always picking on him.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Word of God says that his biggest concern is how to approach Yamraiha.
  • Can't Act Perverted Toward a Love Interest: He's a womanizer who frequents brothels but can't do anything around Yamaraiha, except get into arguments with her.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Despite being something of a womanizer himself, he is disgusted by Sinbad's playboy ways, which could also be because Yamaraiha has been on the receiving end of them.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: When Yamraiha admits that Sinbad tried to grope her whilst drunk in the past, Sharrkan is clearly dismayed, even though the generals are all used to Sinbad's behavior.
    • Even better, after hearing that Yam's preference for older men with beards was because she couldn't get over her "first man" with whom she would bathe and stay up all night (in Pisti's words, but it's actually just her father figure, Mogamett), Sharrkan freaks out and goes straight to the Corner of Woe.
    • And when Yamraiha is fangirling over Yunan (a magic-user, the type of man Pisti said would be right for her), Sharrkan starts sweating. Profusely.
    • Non-romantic example: When Alibaba says that he had other mentors while training in Reim (Shambal at Magoi Manipulation and Muu at swordfighting), Sharrkan got pissed off and said he "felt betrayed", since he was supposed to be Alibaba's sole mentor.
  • The Exile: He was exiled from Heliohapt since his presence threatened his brother's claim to the throne.
  • Glass Cannon: Sharrkan is very deadly with his sword, but has low stamina and low Magoi, so he can only use his household vessel for a few minutes in one go.
  • Handsome Lech: Spends a lot of time in the pleasure district.
  • Ladykiller in Love: This happened to him when he fell in love with Yamraiha. According to an answer Ohtaka gave to a question in the Magi Encyclopedia, this is why he hasn't really gotten anywhere with her. He can smooth talk a woman out of her clothes, but when he actually has feelings for the lady in question, he unfailingly manages to screw things up.
"He has the technique but he's the type to lose his composure when he himself falls in love."
  • Like an Old Married Couple: Him and Yamraiha. They argue a lot, but still respect and care for one another.
  • Love at First Sight: Towards Yamraiha in chapter 145 of Sinbad no Bouken.
  • Master Swordsman: Sharrkan's skill with the sword is noted in-universe and he is appointed as Alibaba's swordsmanship instructor.
  • Sexy Mentor
  • Sword and Sorcerer: Sword to Yamraiha's Sorcerer. They do play mentor to the main Sword and Sorcerer pair in the series.
  • True Love is Exceptional: His type of woman is the loose, easy kind that a man can have a quick score with. In other words, call girls and the like. However, he's in love with Yamraiha, a woman who takes relationships very seriously and who is probably the farthest thing from "easy."
  • Tsundere: Type B towards Yamraiha. Most notably when he finds out about her preference for older men with beards.
Sharrkan: "Hey, stupid girl! Look! Since you were so frustrated, I grew out a beard myself. I just felt like it though, okay? It's not like I did it for you or anything!"
  • Warrior Prince: Turns out his brother is the King of Heliohapt, but Sharrkan was deprived of his title.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Humorously, Sharrkan is embarrassed by women's belly buttons. He doesn't react to boobs or butts, but belly buttons. It's a cultural thing.
  • Whip Sword: Sort of how his Household Vessel works.
  • Work Hard, Play Hard: Very serious when it comes to swordplay, but refuses to practice once the allocated time is over.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: He puts Alibaba through some wrestling holds as punishment for having other mentors.

    Yamraiha
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5688_804139497.jpg

One of Sindria's eight generals who came from Magnostadt. She is a prodigious sorceress who specializes in water magic. Later on she is assigned by Sinbad to train Aladdin in magic manipulation. She often gets into fights with her fellow general Sharrkan.

Voiced by: Yui Horie (Japanese), Carrie Keranen (English)

  • Attack Reflector: With her water mirror spell, against Apollonius.
  • Badass Teacher: Just like Sharrkan and Masrur, hurting or trying to kill her student Aladdin will result in a very pissed off Yam.
  • Barrier Maiden: She has a barrier around Sindria, powered by her magic and some of her magic tools. Mogamett is worried about this, because it could soon start draining her Magoi and slowly kill her.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's kind and sweet, but as anyone foolish enough to piss her off in the battlefield finds out, a monster to fight against.
  • Cast from Lifespan: According to Mogamett, she'll die young if she continues to cover Sindria in a barrier.
  • Child Prodigy: She was revered as Magnostadt's greatest student when she was studying there.
  • Daddy's Girl: She was very close to her adoptive father Mogamett, and even now she has very fond memories of him. There was a time she was afraid that he was actually raising her as a Tyke-Bomb; but after leaving Magnostadt, she realized that he was protecting her.
  • D-Cup Distress: She dislikes that her breasts are so heavy, since it makes her shoulders stiff.
  • Happily Adopted: She was raised by Matal Mogamett.
  • Instant Oracle: Just Add Water!: Can use her water magic to track a person's Rukh and see into the past.
  • Invisibility: Can manipulate water in order to reflect light in a way that makes her look invisible.
  • Lady of Black Magic: One of the Sindria Kingdom's Eight Generals and a powerful and gentle lady of a sorceress whose specialty is water magic.
  • Like an Old Married Couple: Her and Sharrkan. They argue a lot, but still respect and care for one another.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Apparently feels this way towards Sharrkan, much to his disappointment.
  • Like Parent, Like Spouse: Her preference for older men with beards comes from her adoptive father, Mogamett.
  • Making a Splash: Her speciality.
  • Mysterious Past: Something's up with her and her connection to the Magnostadt Magic Academy takeover. Revealed when she and Aladdin meet Mogamett in the Medium that she was kidnapped from her home out of fear of her being used and killed as a courtyard mage in Musta'sim. However, she believed and feared that Mogamett had raised and hid the truth from her to use her, while she eventually realized later after leaving Magnostadt, that he was doing it to protect her.
  • Nice Girl: Is openly friendly and kind, and very protective of those she gets close to.
  • Not a Morning Person: According to The Other Wiki, Yamraiha's weakness is "waking up".
  • Old Maid: She's just 23 at the start of the series, but because she usually gets nervous while speaking to a man she likes, she starts confusing them with her Magi Babble; she's scared of becoming an old unmarried woman with just magic in her life. Pisti recommends her to date a male magician.
  • Only Friend: She's the only female friend Pisti has.
  • Perverted Drooling: Over Yunan when he shows off his alchemy.
  • Red Mage: She states that magicians should be able to assist household and metal vessel users by using their diverse power.
  • Seashell Bra: And you're left wondering how the heck she keeps them intact. They are magical artifacts, or to be precise, magical batteries.
  • Sword and Sorcerer: Sorcerer to Sharrkan's Sword.
  • Water Is Womanly: A caring sorceress who wears sea shells with blue hair and mastery over Water Magic.

    Hinahoho
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hinahoho_anime.png

The eldest of Sindria's eight generals, Hinahoho met Sinbad when they were still teenagers. He comes from the Imuchakk tribe in the far north. His wife died some time ago, leaving him alone to raise their children.

Voiced by: Keiji Fujiwara (Japanese), Tony Oliver (English)

  • Action Dad: A General and a father of many children.
  • Amazon Chaser: Rurumu, his wife, was not only taller than him, but she was also very muscular.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: His little sister Pipirika was this to him sometimes, back in Adventure of Sinbad.
  • Animal Eyes: Compared to other Imuchakk, his eyes resemble something of a reptile. It's the result of his almost merging with his vessel due to his wife's death but fortunately Drakon was able to reason with Hinahoho and bring him back to his senses.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He is not very pleased when Sinbad and Pipirika appear to be "flirting" in one of the extras. He's less than happy when she starts dating Mystoras.
  • The Big Guy: This man is HUGE.
  • Brother–Sister Team: When Sinbad first met him, he had teamed up with his little sister Pipirika to defeat the "Rampaging Unicorn".
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Likes kids, and is the parent of several children.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: He seems to have known Rurumu since he was young, and has loved her ever since then.
  • Glory Seeker: In Adventure of Sinbad; he seeks to prove himself to his clan by performing their coming of age ritual of killing a "Rampaging Unicorn".
    • He also did this when Sinbad trying to help him ends up being the one to deal the final blow to the Rampaging Unicorn instead, Hinahoho, while unsure if it can be considered that he was the one who killed it, goes back to his home and takes the "glory". In a guilt-inflicted Heroic BSoD, he then attempted to conquer a dungeon alone.
  • Happily Married: Until his wife's death. It's hinted that he doesn't want to marry again because of how much he loved her.
  • Heroic BSoD: When Sinbad killed the Southern Creature and Hinahoho was still praised for it, he falls into one and starts to doubt himself. To prove himself, he then attempted to conquer a dungeon alone.
  • Hidden Depths: He is a good artist, much better than his younger sister.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He's mostly seen carrying Pisti over his shoulder.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Hinahoho was 21 and Sinbad was 14 when they became friends.
  • Meaningful Name: In-universe; it means "as clean as the ocean," in the Imuchakk tongue.
  • Meaningful Rename: Adventures of Sinbad revealed that his birth name was simply Hina, and that by standards of his culture he has to prove himself and earn his warrior name. He gets it before he leaves Imuchakk.
  • The Mourning After: After his wife's death, he dedicates himself entirely to his duties as a General and avoids hanging around with women. His children are worried and often try to hook him with a Big Beautiful Woman if possible.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: He's rightfully wary of his little sister Pipirika's close relationship with Sinbad. He's more accepting of her relationship with Mystoras, but only after some discussion with Rurumu.
  • Oddly Shaped Sword: His sword looks like a giant piece of coral, but it's actually the horn of a Southern Creature, the "Rampaging Unicorn", that Sinbad killed.
  • A Real Man Is a Killer: See Glory Seeker above.
  • Shrinking Violet: When he first met Sinbad.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: A common trait of the Imuchakk people.
  • Super Not-Drowning Skills: A hereditary trait unique to the Imuchakk.
  • Those Two Guys: He is usually seen together with Drakon.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Downplayed, he's not small at all, but Rurumu, his wife, was much taller than him.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: In Adventure of Sinbad; he seeks to prove himself to his father, the chief of his village, by killing the "Rampaging Unicorn" and thus becoming a true man in his eyes.

    Pisti
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pisti_201107.jpg

One of Sindria's eight generals, she comes from Artemyra. While she looks like a young girl, she is in fact 18-years-old. She likes animals and breaking hearts.

Voiced by: Rumi Ōkubo (Japanese), Christine Marie Cabanos (English)

    Spartos Leoxses
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spartos_195837.jpg

One of Sindria's eight generals. He came from Sasan, a religious country and while he doesn't need to follow Sasan's religious teachings anymore, he still chooses to honor some of them.

Voiced by: Wataru Hatano (Japanese), Sam Riegel (English)

  • Accidental Misnaming: Aladdin mispronounced his name once because of a joke; when actually trying to say his name he ended mispronouncing it anyway.
  • Big Brother Worship: He really looked up to his older brother and was absolutely heartbroken when he left Sasan with Sinbad and co.
  • Jousting Lance: Wields a lance. He was also Hakuryuu's teacher, given that both use the similar weapon.
  • The Nondescript: Despite being one of the Eight Generals, Spartos is the most "normal" of them, and the fact that he doesn't do much to stand out doesn't help neither. Aladdin made an innocent (but kinda cruel) joke about it which made Spartos cry and the others agree that he needs more personality.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: He refuses to frolic with the scantily-clad women at festivals.
  • Odd Friendship: He gets along very well with Sharrkan and Pisti. And is usually seen with the latter.
  • Only Sane Man: Takes this attitude when interacting with his king.
  • Opposites Attract: Apparently his type is cheerful people. May explain why he is such good friends with Sharrkan and Pisti.
  • The Team Normal: Sinbad is a king with 7 Djinns, Ja'far was an assassin, Masrur is a Fanalis, Yamraiha is a genius magician, Sharrkan slices up humongous beasts with his Whip Sword, Pisti can talk to animals, Drakon is a lizard man who breathes fire, Hinahoho is a giant, and Spartos... is an agile man with a lance.
  • Token Religious Teammate: Particularly when it comes to parties and festivals.
  • 24-Hour Armor: We rarely see him without his armor.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Adventure of Sinbad gives him a largely unsettling deep voice when he was shown as a child.
  • Warrior Prince: He is the second son of Darius, the Knight King of Sasan.

    Drakon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drakon_195835.jpg

One of Sindria's eight generals, stated by Sinbad to be "a sincere man". He was once a devoted soldier of the Parthevia Empire who opposed Sinbad.

Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita (Japanese), Patrick Seitz (English)

  • Affectionate Nickname: In his youth, he was called "Dragul Jr" or just "Junior" by his family and close friends.
  • Blue Blood: He comes from one of Parthevia's most distinguished noble military families.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Barbarossa's Cain.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: He was in love with his childhood friend Serendine, princess of the Parthevia Empire. She cared for him too, but Drakon eventually moved on and married her handmaiden Sahel.
  • Emergency Transformation: It was because he was dying and needed power to escape from his brother along with the princess.
  • A Father to His Men: Is mentioned that he enjoys teaching his subordinates and seems to have a close relationship with them, in an extra, it is shown that they seem honored to be able to drink with him during the festival. And even when he was 14, he somewhat displayed this.
  • Foregone Conclusion: From Adventure of Sinbad, we know he will become a lizard man.
  • Four-Star Badass: While all of the Eight Generals technically fit this thanks to their titles, Drakon seems to fit the most, as the extras in Volume 9 imply that he is the commander of Sindria's armies.
  • Foreshadowing: Drakon, after telling his tale about his Emergency Transformation, warned the others who were possible Household Vessel users to be careful on submitting their selves fully on it. The only was that isnt present is Mystras. He was the only household vessel user of Sinbad to die.
  • Happily Married: To the most supportive and understanding wife in the world. Additional trivia tells that he's a bit of a Henpecked Husband.
  • Improbable Age: See Young and in Charge below.
  • Lizard Folk: He has a draconian body.
  • Manly Tears: Drakon was on the run with Serendine and her maids for months after escaping from Parthevia. They go to Sindria Trading Company for refuge. Drakon asks Sinbad to look after the princess in his stead, believing himself to have become a monster undeserving of being in her presence. Sinbad tells him that he should continue to look after Serendine, saying that Drakon is still human and calling him a precious friend. Drakon is reduced to tears by Sinbad's kindness.
  • Meaningful Name: Subverted. At first it seems like he's called "Drakon" on account of his draconian appearance, but it's actually just a nickname given to him by Sinbad, because his actual name was too long. He only became a dragon after their second meeting.
  • Military Brat: Was the youngest son of a distinguished military family of Parthevia, and had this initial impression on Sinbad when they first met.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: He was extremely devoted to Parthevia when he was young.
  • Oblivious to Love: Just as Serendine was originally oblivious to his love for her, Drakon was oblivious to his eventual wife Sahel's feelings.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His real name isn't Drakon, or Junior, but everyone else calls him one or the other because his real name is very long.
  • Overly Long Name: Dragul Nol Henrius Govius Menudias Partenuvonomias Dumid Os Kortanon.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Reading Sinbad no Bouken will explain why Drakon became the King of Sindria. He is the only among the 8 generals that is qualified for the job in terms of pedigree, interests and availability.
  • Ring of Power: Well, technically an Earring of Power, since that's his household vessel.
  • The Rival: Was this to Sinbad in their younger years.
  • Sibling Triangle: Serendine, the woman he loved, was engaged to his elder brother, Barbarossa.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Combined with I'll Kill You!, this occurs for Drakon on two separate occasions; one Played for Drama and the other Played for Laughs.
    • Played humorously, when after he meets Sinbad in Baal's dungeon, and Sinbad then decides to shorten his name.
    • Played seriously, when after his elder brother Barbarossa tells him that he is a disgrace to their family, and then proceeds to condemn him to die in Valefor's dungeon.
  • Those Two Guys: He is seen together with Hinahoho most of the time.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: At some point, he went from being a Jerkass Blue Blood General to a loyal friend and retainer.
  • Turning Back Human: After the magic went away, Drakon regained his human form in the finale.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: Though he didn't always look like this.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Sinbad, obviously, and in his youth he felt strong fealty towards Serendine. His strong loyalty to Sinbad is because even though Drakon transformed into a dragon man, he was accepted by Sinbad and the whole Sindria Trading Company wholeheartedly for who his despite his looks.
  • Was Once a Man: He at one point fused with his household vessel, transforming him into his current draconian-like state. He gets his human skin back later, after David is defeated.
  • Young and in Charge: He was made captain of an entire troop of men in order to conquer a dungeon, and then subsequently promoted to lieutenant—all at just 14 years of age.

Alternative Title(s): Magi Sindria Kingdom
