Parthevia was once a small country in southwest, but during the reign of Davashadil IV, after wining the war against a nearby country, they renamed itself as The Parthevia Empire, becoming a strong and influential superpower. Gaining more and more resources as they kept conquering other countries, the army paid the citizens gold for each victory in the war. But after the war with the Reim Empire, which forced Parthevia to yield some parts of its territory, Parthevia fell into economic difficulties and imposed harsh taxes on the people, taking the citizen's food supplies, properties and even demanding the men to join the army.

    General
  • The Empire: What they certainly want to be. In practice, it's not really the case.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Of the Parthian Empire, right down to the name, and the fact that they were once a strong, up and coming empire, but ran into a wall when faced with another, more powerful one.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: They were, for a time, considered one of the great powers of the world with potential to grow even stronger. However, they were laid low by Reim, and were left devastated economically and socially.
  • Out of Focus: They are given virtually no attention in the main series, but have a lot more attention in Adventure of Sinbad.

Citizens

    Badr
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/badr_2818.png

Sinbad's father, a former soldier of the Parthevia Empire. After losing a leg in the last war, he retired and lived as a sailor with his family.

Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi (Japanese), Grant George (English)

  • Handicapped Badass: Lost his leg and was for the longest time exempt from Partevia's wars.
  • Keet: He's adorable with he's with his son.
  • Never Found the Body: He is forced to go back to fight as a Parthevian soldier and dies as a result. Esra and Sinbad only got back his sword.
  • Papa Wolf: He's normally a peaceful guy. Until you attack his family.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Grown up Sinbad look almost exactly like him.
  • War Is Hell: He is against war, having experienced the atrocities of it himself and seeing how the "culture of war" was warping his fellows citizens and Parthevia itself.

    Esra

Parthevia Royal Family and Army

    Serendine Dikumenowlz Du Parthevia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/serendine_457.png

The First Princess of the Parthevia Empire. She has known Drakon since childhood and cares for him as a younger brother.

Voiced by Ai Kayano (Japanese), Abby Trott (English)

  • Affectionate Nickname: She prefers to be called "Seren" and she likes to call Drakon "Junior".
  • Arranged Marriage: To Barbarossa, Drakon's older brother. She doesn't seem too happy about it.
  • Berserk Button: Don't insult her father. Really, don't. When a mob started insulting her and her men, telling them to get lost, she took it all stoicly. That is, until someone insulted her father, the emperor. If Sinbad hadn't stopped her, she probably would have beaten the offender to death with her bare hands.
  • Big Sister Instinct: To Drakon, as seen here. She loves him as a brother and is ready to "avenge" him.
    • She also feels this for her actual younger brother Ceylan.
  • Blood-Splattered Wedding Dress: She gets her wedding dress soaked with Drakon's blood after Barbarossa uses the powers from his Djinn against him.
  • Break the Cutie: After the Time Skip, Serendine, Drakon, Sahel and Tamila have experienced several hardships while being on the run. They were constantly attacked with not even time to rest, then after finally reaching Reim they had already exhausted most of their resources and had to work hard jobs with a minimum wage, getting barely any food to eat, not to mention that Drakon's assimilated form and the ostracism he started to face derived from it had strained their relationship and being approached several times by men suggesting her to sell herself, all of those experiences took their toll on Serendine's mental estate.
  • Chainmail Bikini: She wears a shirt or something that covers some of her torso, but in terms of actual armour, let's just say that she'll be fine if she gets hit on her forearms, shins, or breasts.
  • Childhood Friends: With Drakon, or "Junior" as she calls him.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She doesn't seem very interested in fighting fair, pulling out hidden weapons at just the right moment and poisoning her blades.
  • Combat Stilettos
  • Curtains Match the Windows
  • Defeat by Modesty: Given how he's The Ace, it's likely Sinbad would have defeated her anyway, but what allowed him to defeat her so easily was her embarrassment after he cut the straps of her Chainmail Bikini.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": She doesn't like it when Drakon treats her with too much formality and asks him to call her "Seren" instead of her full name.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Two years later she wears her hair short, as she had to sell it for money. After using most of their resources while constantly running from Barbarossa, once she and her group reach Reim they end up penniless, so she ends up selling her hair and since it's an unusual color in Reim she gets a good price.
  • Fallen Princess
  • First Love: Drakon's first love.
  • Foregone Conclusion: She manages to conquer the dungeon of Zepar. That makes Seren his first King Candidate, since we know from the main series that Zepar is currently one of Sinbad's djinns... Which means that something must have happened to her for him to be able to inherit her djinn.
  • Guardian Entity: According to Sinbad in the main series, Serendine's Rukh became one with Sinbad's not unlike Cassim to Alibaba, allowing him to use her Djinn equip.
  • Like Brother and Sister: She and Drakon when they were younger, before their feelings grew more complicated.
  • Meaningful Name: Seren is a Turkish name, that means "(marine) yard, rank or post", and in Welsh, her name can mean "star".
  • Missing Mom: It's shown much later in the story that her mother died when she was young.
  • Oblivious to Love: Doesn't seem to realize at first that Drakon's feelings for her are romantic.
  • One-Winged Angel: Using Falan's Dark Metal Vessel, she transforms into an abominable human-arthropod hybrid which butchers Menphis. Unfortunately, she also transforms into a Medium Falan uses to call Ill Ilah in the world.
  • Overly Long Name
  • Poisoned Weapons: Specializes in using these, hence her nom de guerre below.
  • Pride
  • Red Baron: Nicknamed "Parthevia's Venomous Spider Princess".
  • Regal Ringlets
  • Royal Rapier: Her weapon of choice.
  • Run Away Bride
  • Shipper on Deck: She happily supports Drakon x Sahel.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: She's actually pretty good in a fight, and even though she used a concealed weapon, she landed a hit on Sinbad.
  • Tomboy Princess
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: She conquers Zepar's dungeon when Zepar forces her and Sinbad to compare ideologies and she makes Sinbad reconsider his goal to become king. This allows her to be able to mind control Sinbad to declare war against Parthevia, which results in the deaths of many people including Mystras and Rurumu, Sinbad becoming half-fallen and David merging with him, and further galvanizing Sinbad's anti-war ideology and his determination to do anything to reach that goal, no matter how shady. If she had not possessed Zepar, it would not only have changed the history of Sindria but altered the end of the main manga.
  • Uptown Girl: For Drakon, who recognises he is far too lowly to have a chance with her.

    Sahel
One of Serendine's handmaidens who is a magician. By the beginning of Magi, she and Drakon are married.
  • Ascended Extra: In the Magi storyline she is a minor character, just "Drakon's beautiful wife". The few things we learnt about her are thanks to trivia related to her husband, to the point that not even her name was known.
  • Eyes Always Closed: She mostly appears with her eyes closed.
  • Foregone Conclusion: It's already known from the series proper that she and Drakon will get married.
  • Happily Married: Though they have their gripes about each other, she and Drakon seem very happy.
  • Hopeless Suitor: At least at the beginning of Sinbad no Bouken, since she has a crush on Drakon and knows very well that he likes the princess. Subverted since she eventually became his wife.
  • Irony: Even though Sahel is just a handmaiden, her love and acceptance to Drakon despite everything resulted into a meaningful and fulfilled life that Serendine, who rejected Drakon due to his transformation, desperately craves. Sahel even became the queen of a nation while Serendine who started a war to reclaim her throne was forgotten except by the select few.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Sahel's patient devotion to Drakon despite his monstrous appearance and his love to Seredine resulted into their romance, and her becoming the Queen of Sindria alongside Drakon.
  • Meaningful Name: Sahel (sāḥil) means "shore/coast" in Arabic.
  • Second Love: To Drakon, after he got over his feelings for Serendine.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Sahel or Saher?
  • Supreme Chef: Drakon's favorite food is her cooking.
  • Team Mom: She's caring, rational and tries to look out for Serendine, Drakon and Tamila.
  • Those Two Guys: With Tamila.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Serendine.
  • Warts and All: Sahel always liked Drakon, that even he transformed into a lizard man, her love for him did not even waver. Eventually this lead to their eventual romance and marriage.

    Tamila
One of Serendine's handmaidens who specializes in close hand combat.

    Barbarossa
One of Drakon's older brothers, who is engaged to Serendine. He holds the position of "General of the Left". Has conquered two Dungeons, Glasya-Labolas and Gusion.

Voiced by Takehito Koyasu (Japanese), David Vincent (English)

  • Dishing Out Dirt: His second Djinn, Gusion, allows him to control the tectonical plates and even cause earthquakes. His Extreme Magic is powerful enough to nearly sink Sindria.
  • The Emperor: Subverted at first, when he starts as General, then when Parthevia turns into a constitutional monarchy he leads the local nationalist party and runs for president. After Ceylan's assassination he officially becomes Emperor.
  • Expy: He's a Jerkass, Aloof Big Brother with a very similar hair type along with his personality being similar toSeto Kaiba.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: His first Djinn, Glasya-Labolas, grants him full control over metal, which enables him to change the form of his armor, attack with volleys of bullets and even disable other Metal Vessels by melting the metal they're composed of.
  • Fantastic Racism: He considers the people of Parthevia superior to all others, which is why he's initially willing to support and praise Sindbad.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He allowed Sindbad to found the kingdom of Sindria and also helped Matar Mogamett founding Magnostadt.
  • Meaningful Name: His name means "red beard" in Italian. He may also be named after Frederick Barbarossa; the Holy Roman Emperor from 1152 to 1190.
  • Military Coup: He eventually deposes and kills the Emperor of Parthevia, becoming Emperor himself.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Again, his name translates to "red beard" and given to a cleanly shaved man with green hair of all people.
  • Sibling Triangle: He is engaged to the woman his brother is in love with.
  • Social Darwinist: Has a deep distaste for lower classes and anyone who's not useful for him.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After going back to his homeland, Drakon discovers that Barbarossa became a Dungeon Conqueror - having obtained the Djinn of "Massacre and Arrogance" Glasya-Labolas. By the time Sindbad is his guest, he reveals that he took over another Dungeon, Gusion.
  • Villainous Breakdown: After being outsmarted by Serendine and her revolutionairs, nearly killed and forced to flee Sindria, Barbarossa burst into a demented laughter and swears that he's going to "wipe out all those inferior species". When Sindbad meets him again after the battle, Barbarossa has been reduced to a pitiful, nervous wreck whose political party collapsed and whose country has fallen into chaos.
  • The Worf Effect: After mastering Magoi, Sindbad takes him out in one attack, even if the latter had his full Djinn Equip on.
  • Yandere: He wants his brother to die in Valefor's dungeon because he knows how much he adores "his" Serendine. Even though he previously claimed that he didn't care at all about her.

    Ceylan Dikumenowlz Du Parthevia

Serendine's younger brother.

  • Foregone Conclusion: In the main series, when Alibaba goes to Parthevia he meets Ceylan, so it's already known that he'll survive the events of Sinbad no Bouken and he'll become the 32nd Emperor of Parthevia, which is one of the clues that Seren dies trying to reclame their country.
  • Missing Mom: It's shown much later in the story that his mother died when he was a very young child.
  • Nice Guy.
  • Overly Long Name
  • Replacement Goldfish: To Falan he becomes a replacement of her son, to the point that she actually believes him to be Tess.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: As a child he looked quite similar to his sister.

    Memphis
A member of the Four Heavenly Generals of the Parthevia Empire, who are loyal to Barbarossa.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Since he comes from Heliohapt, the Fantasy Counterpart Culture to Ancient Egypt, his dark skin is justified.
  • Chained by Fashion
  • The Dragon: Out of the four, he's the one closest to Barbarossa.
  • Dual Wielding: He employs classical Heliohapt black scimitars, only smaller.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Thanks to his power up, he's unbelievably fast and can hit really hard.
  • Meaningful Name: "Memphis" means established and beautiful. It may refer to Memphis, the ancient capital of Aneb-Hetch; the first nome of Lower Egypt.
  • Red Baron: Memphis "The Lightning Bolt", because of his superhuman speed.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Tries to pull this on Sindbad and Serendine to keep a wounded Barbarossa safe. Dies at the maws of Serendine's Dark Djinn form.

    Rotter
A member of the Four Heavenly Generals of the Parthevia Empire, who are loyal to Barbarossa.

    Zayzafoon
A member of the Four Heavenly Generals of the Parthevia Empire, who are loyal to Barbarossa.
  • The Big Guy: The largest and biggest of the Generals.
  • Didn't See That Coming: After appearing as a powerful and Nigh-Invulnerable fighter with an interesting past, Hinahoho just sends his detatched helmet flying over the horizon before pushing the armor into the sea.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: His armor is actually a Household Vessel of Glasya-Labolas, and he can expand and manipulate the metal it's composed of.
  • Living Armor: The true Zayzafoon was a wheelchair-bound geezer when Barbarossa hired him. Thanks to the experiments, he was able to replace his decrepit body with his own Household Vessel.
  • Red Baron: Both "Steel Zayzafoon" and "Zayzafoon the Immortal", the latter from when he was alive.
  • Sinister Scimitar: His weapon of choice is a rather brutal-looking squared falchion.
  • Taking the Bullet: Uses his Vessel to save Barbarossa, Memphis and Shaka from Bararaq Saiqa.

Sham Lash

    Shaka
The Leader of the assassination group "Sham Lash". Also part of the Four Heavenly Generals of the Parthevia Empire, who are loyal to Barbarossa.
  • Bald of Evil: To the extreme. See Body Horror below.
  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: When he unrobes, there's nothing "indicative" of his gender between his legs.
  • Body Horror: Once he unmasks and unrobes, we see that his body is literally skinless, every muscle is exposed, gaunt beyond belief and seemingly devoid of hair or genitals.
  • Ki Attacks: Being a Yambala, he has mastered Magoi manipulation, which results in a Battle Aura so powerful he can mutilate people with a touch.
  • Off with His Head!: How Jafar finally kills him for good.
  • One-Hit Kill: His secret technique allows him to slay in one blow even the largest opponent.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has a moment of panic when he realizes that Mahad and Vittel are about to perform an Heroic Sacrifice to make him vulnerable to Jafar's attack.
  • Professional Killer: The leader of an entire guild of assassins.

    Mahad
