    Ant-Man VS Atom
  • Applied Phlebotinum: Both of the power sources for their shrinking suits are naturally occurring materials that they discovered and studied: the Pym Particles and a White Dwarf Star fragment, respectively.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Both combatants showcase their intelligence well in the fight, deciphering much of the science used by their opponent and finding appropriate counters. Hank ultimately edged out in this regard, thanks to having more tricks that he could pull off with his gadgets and ants and a comparatively higher intellect from dealing with things as mindboggling as Ultron.
  • Badass Bookworm: Both are highly intelligent scientists who kick major ass and regularly take on powerful supervillains. Notably, both are also skilled in judo. Each has an edge on one side or the other, with Hank being smarter but Ray being the better fighter and more physically powerful.
  • Science Hero: They're scientists whose powers are derived from their inventions and discoveries.
  • Shrink Ray: Both Ant-Man and The Atom are capable of shrinking others (and in Ant-Man's case, growing them as well), while also having immunity to forced size-changing. However, Hank's immunity was innate while Ray's was provided by his Bio-belt, and once Hank destroyed it, Ray became vulnerable to being forcefully grown to the Overspace where Hank had the advantage.
  • Sizeshifter: They're the two most famous size-changing heroes in comic books. Ant-Man uses Pym Particles to alter his mass, while The Atom can shrink and enlarge himself thanks to the white dwarf fragment in his belt. Hank is the superior one in this regard, as he can increase and decrease his size with no limit while Ray cannot become larger than his natural size.
  • Super-Intelligence: Both are noted to be among the smartest scientists in their worlds, though Hank has the advantage, having been declared Scientist Supreme by Eternity itself.

Ant-Man (Henry "Hank" Pym)

Ant-Man: "They're called Pym Particles, and I'm Hank Pym, Scientist Supreme. You should have knocked."

Marvel's Founding Member of the Avengers

  • Always Someone Better: The post-fight comparison states that one of Hank's advantages over Ray was the former being smarter, and Wiz points out that Hank's size-shifting had far fewer limits than Ray, especially since unlike Ray, Hank could increase his size.
  • Ant Assault: Naturally, given his name. Hank's ability to command ants was considered one of his main advantages, as Ray would always be at a numerical disadvantage, giving Pym more time to use his other abilities.
Ant-Man: Did you know that at any given moment, there are about 2.5 million ants under your feet?
Atom: I mean, that makes sense, but why are you bringing that up right now...?
[cue ant army emerging from the ground]
  • Broken Ace: One of the founding members of The Avengers, inventor of the Pym Particles, the Scientist Supreme...and also a man plagued with self-doubt, insecurity, and poor mental health that inadvertently lead to the creation of the greatest mechanical mass-murderer in the Marvel Universe and briefly spiraled into an abuser of his own wife.
  • Chest Burster: Hank finishes Ray off by having his ants go inside of him and grow until they burst through his flesh and bones.
  • Child Prodigy: Was declared by doctors to have surpassed the collective intelligence of his parents by age 3. And he'd only get smarter from there.
  • Cool Helmet: Perhaps not in appearance, but his helmet imitates an ant's antennae, which allows him to communicate with and even command his ants.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Wiz and Boomstick make it clear that Hank's poor mental health doesn't excuse his abuse of his wife, Janet Van Dyne, but he did acknowledge his issues and sought help.
  • Holographic Disguise: Created a device that allows him to disguise himself as an ant. It's apparently so potent that even Reed Richards, the "smartest guy on the planet" couldn't see past it.
  • Hyperspace Is a Scary Place: Wiz and Boomstick point out that Hank taking Ray the Overspace would be a valid option once the Bio Belt was out of the picture since the Overspace has affected the minds of people, with Hank uniquely being able to handle the effects.
  • Insufferable Genius: He's got a very arrogant and condescending ego that he shows off throughout the fight. Wiz even points out how he always lets people know that he's the "Scientist Supreme" as Eternity has dubbed him. Hank even says it again at the beginning of the fight.
  • My Greatest Failure: Hank was the original creator of the horrifically-evil artificial intelligence Ultron in the comics, his creation being what caused Hank to spiral alongside his other issues; particularly since he based Ultron on himself and wondered if that was a reflection of his own dark side. Fortunately, once Hank rectified his issues, he ultimately helped take Ultron down.
  • Professor Guinea Pig: After creating his first batch of shrinking serum from the newly discovered Pym Particles, Pym proceeded to test it on himself without any other precautions like a protective suit or a way to turn himself back. Luckily, a friendly ant helped him return to normal size, leading to an interest in entomology and beginning his longtime association with ants.
  • Ray Gun: Has a pistol called The Stinger, which focuses his bio-energy into a stun beam.
  • Super-Strength: He retains his strength regardless of size, which means he's super strong relative to his size. However, this doesn't give him an advantage on its own, as Ray was able to become far stronger than a human.
  • Troubled Abuser: Due to his mental health declining, Hank briefly physically abused his wife Janet, an inexcusable act he acknowledges. Luckily, he sought help and he got better.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Ray disassembles his gun at a subatomic level, making it crumble to dust.

The Atom (Raymond "Ray" Palmer)

Atom: "Everything we needed already existed. You just needed to be smart enough to put the pieces together, Scientist Supreme!"
Voiced by: Chris Okawa

DC's Legendary Mighty Mite

  • Attack Its Weakpoint: His Bio Belt is his biggest weak point, as while many of his abilities are decentralized throughout his suit, the belt itself is what blocks having his size forcibly changed. This is a deciding factor, as it means that he loses this immunity if the belt is destroyed, while Hank's resistance to forced size alteration is fully integrated into his whole body.
  • Came from the Sky: Ray gained the White Dwarf Star fragment that would eventually power his suit from a meteor that had fallen from space.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Ray is a better close-quarters fighter than Hank and capable of increasing his strength and punching power, something Hank lacks.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: One of Ray's drawbacks is that he can only decrease his size and can't enlarge himself bigger than his natural size, whereas Hank can also increase it without limit. This would be a major disadvantage if Hank took them to the Overspace, as Ray would have no experience at such massive sizes and be left vulnerable to anything Hank could dish out.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Having giant ants burst out of your body is certainly up there in both cruelty and especially unusuality.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: He explodes after the giant ants burst out of his body.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Wields a sword laced with poison he received from the Katarthans, an entire civilization of shrunken alien people. He uses it briefly against Hank's ant army but is disarmed.
  • No Body Left Behind: Due to the giant ants exploding him.
  • Professor Guinea Pig: Downplayed in that Ray had run multiple tests of his Shrink Ray powered by the white dwarf star fragment on other objects, but they always ended up going wrong, and he only resorted to the first test on himself when the only other option was for him and his fellows to die stuck in a cave-in.
  • Ray Gun: He possesses a laser pistol that is briefly used against Hank's Stinger.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: His initial experiments with the white dwarf star fragment involved shrinking things using ultraviolet rays, which for some reason always exploded whatever was shrunk. Conveniently, he was immune to the effects himself, leading to him becoming the Atom. A note suggests that he might have the Meta Gene, a special gene that allowed humans to survive the deadly incidents that grant them super powers, but improvements in the experiments have made this a moot point.
  • Super-Strength: He can alter his density to increase his strength to immense scales. This gave him an edge over Hank, as Hank couldn't do the same, merely keep his human strength at a small scale.
  • Trespassing to Talk: Broke into Hank's lab to inquire over the Pym particles. Hank doesn't take lightly over the trespassing part though.

Skyrim VS Dark Souls (Dragonborn VS Chosen Undead)
  • Character Customization: A first for Death Battle to have both combatants be fully customizable blank slates that can be altered in any way by the player, from weapons to appearance to even gender. Because they're blank slates, they're also referred to in gender-neutral terms, not because of ambiguity, but because they are essentially composites of all the player character builds from their games and have access to all of their skills and equipment for their fight.
  • Solar and Lunar: At the climax of the fight, the Dragonborn and the Chosen Undead wield iconic swords with solar and lunar symbolism against each other, the Dawnbreaker and the Moonlight Greatsword, respectively.
  • Unstoppable Force Meets Immovable Object: The Dragonborn, a prophecized mortal being capable of slaying a multiverse-devouring god-dragon, and the Chosen Undead, a perpetually-resurrecting demigod with a soul strong enough to re-ignite the fires of creation itself. In the end, the Unstoppable Force wins, as the Chosen Undead can only resurrect as long as their will to do so endures, which would give out long, long before they could overcome the immense power gap between them and the Dragonborn.

The Last Dragonborn/Dovahkiin

Dragonborn: FUS RO DAH!

The Dragon-Slaying Savior of Skyrim
  • Always Someone Better: While both them and the Chosen Undead are powerful demi-gods, the Last Dragonborn is far more powerful in every category with power bordering on infinite. This power gulf is so large that the Chosen Undead simply would never win and thus inevitably go Hollow. Thus, the Dragonborn is on the giving end of this trope.
  • Forced Transformation: The Wabbajack can perform any spell at random when used, including turning the target into a chicken against their will.
  • Jack of All Trades: Is declared a "jack-of-all-trades, Master of All", having been taught assassination, magic, thievery and dragon hunting.
  • Master of All: Is described by such, having been taught in and mastering a variety of different disciplines.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: By destroying the Chosen Undead and snuffing the First Flame, he ensures Darkstalker Kaathe's victory and begins the Age of Dark. Though by Dark Souls lore, whether or not this is actually a bad thing is up in the air.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: It's noted a fully realized Dragonborn is so powerful that they can split continents. This gives them the win, as they far eclipse anything the Chosen Undead can do.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: The Dragonborn drops onto his back and goes unconscious out of sheer exhaustion after finally extinguishing the Chosen Undead.
  • Regenerating Mana: One major advantage the Dragonborn had over the Chosen Undead is that their mana pool automatically regenerates over time, meaning that unlike their opponent, there's no limit to how many spells they would be able to cast throughout the fight.
  • Super-Scream: Sort of. As a Dragonborn, they are a master of the Thu'um (often called Dragon Shouts), a manner of magic performed by speaking the tongue of dragons to impose their will into reality. During the fight, they use five different Shouts: Their first (and last) move in the fight is to use Unrelenting Force (the ever-famous "Fus Ro Dah"), then they use Slow Time ("Tiid Klo Ul") to dodge a shot from Gough's Greatbow and counterattack, then on the first deathblow against the Chosen Undead, he uses Soul Tear ("Rii Vaaz Zol") to tear out the Chosen Undead's Soul, after the Chosen Undead's first resurrection, they use Call Dragon ("Od Ah Viing") to summon Odahviing to attack the Chosen Undead while they heal themselves, and immediately follow up with Storm Call ("Strun Bah Qo") to call lightning from the sky. While the Dragonborn can draw the full power of the shouts out by saying all three words, most Shouts have an effect with just a single word, as when the Chosen Undead tries to choke them out, they merely use the first word of Unrelenting Force to get the Chosen Undead off of them.
  • Unwitting Pawn: All but stated to have been one in the fight for Darkstalker Kaathe, who after the Dragonborn extinguishes the First Flame and collapses, boasts that the Age of Dark has begun thanks to the Dragonborn.
  • Weapon of X-Slaying: The Dragonborn has a variety of weapons enhanced to do great damage against specific enemy types (And technically speaking, they are one themselves, to dragons). In the battle, he uses the undead-destroying Dawnbreaker; while it does not have any great effect against the Chosen Undead due to the nature of undeath in Dark Souls, the Dragonborn was still powerful enough that he did not need such an advantage to win.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: The Dragonborn can invoke this effect using the Soul Tear shout, which deals heavy damage to the victim, and, if it kills the target, will steal their soul, using it to charge a Soul Gem. The Chosen Undead's Resurrective Immortality bypasses the need for a soul, however, and as a result, though the Dragonborn does steal the Chosen Undead's Soul and traps it in the Black Star, the fight continues anyway.

The Chosen Undead/Undead Hero

The Chosen Undead: "Prepare to die..."
Voiced by: Liam Swan

The Accursed God Killer from Dark Souls
  • Annoying Arrows: When the Dragonborn attempts Knee-capping him with an arrow, he is unaffected and pulls the arrow out.
  • Anti-Magic: The Vow of Silence is a Miracle that allows the Chosen Undead to disable all magic in an area for a time when used. Indeed, it was a good answer to the Dragonborn's magic and Shouts, but it would not last forever, and given their limited pool of magic as opposed to the Dragonborn's constantly regenerating pool, it was not enough of an equalizer, especially given the Dragonborn also dominated physically. In the fight, they use it to gain the upper hand while interrupting one of the Dragonborn's attempted uses of Unrelenting Force.
  • Blessed with Suck: Like the rest of the undead in Dark Souls, the Chosen Undead is essentially immortal, being able to resurrect every time they die. Unfortunately, the world they habit is filled horrific monsters, former heroes driven crazy, brutal enormous deities and many other obstacles that can easily kill our hero. What's even worse is that if they die too many times without regaining Humanity, they turn Hollow, in which their appearance deteriorates and they go insane.
  • BFS: One of the most iconic weapons wielded by the Chosen Undead is the Moonlight Greatsword, a massive blade of sorcery straight from the tail (or ass, as Boomstick puts it) of the albino dragon and Father of Sorcery Seath the Scaleless, and is so amazing that it fires Sword Beams, looks cool, and somehow keeps popping up throughout all the properties of FromSoftware despite having to cross dimensions to do so.
  • Carry a Big Stick: One of the specific weapons mentioned in the Chosen Undead's analysis is Smough's Great Hammer, described by Boomstick as being "the size of a sedan" and calculated by Wiz to weigh over 100 tons. When they use it against the Dragonborn in the fight, despite attempting to block it still sends him flying across the battlefield to crash in a heap.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: Boomstick argues that the Chosen Undead appears to get off from dying and reviving. Throughout the episode, their grunts when they take a hit sound like moans of pleasure.
  • Cool Sword: One of the Chosen Undead's iconic swords is the Moonlight Greatsword, a powerful sword that literally appears in every FromSoftware game.
  • The Dragonslayer: He kills Odahviing with a Great Arrow through the head when the Dragonborn summons him to burn the Chosen Undead to ashes.
  • Great Bow: They wield Gough's Greatbow, the personal weapon of Hawkeye Gough that he used to bring down dragons with arrows more akin to spears. While the Dragonborn avoids the bolt aimed at them via Slow Time, Odahviing isn't so lucky when he thinks he's taken the Chosen Undead down with dragon-fire only to get a bolt through the head by his resurrected foe.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: While not mentioned, the Chosen Undead can carry many different types of weapons into battle, no matter if it's a broken sword or something as big as Smough's Hammer. In the fight the Chosen Undead has access to the Shortsword, the Crest Shield, Smough's Hammer, Gough's Greatbow, the Tin Crystalisation Catalyst for Sorceries, and a Thorolund Talisman for Miracles.
  • Magic Knight: It's noted in their preview that the Chosen Undead — with the right skill speccing — becomes a master of multiple types of melee weapons and magic, and all without formal training. Unfortunately for them, the Dragonborn outclassed them pretty heavily in this regard, in both the "magic" (far more versatile magic, as well as constantly regenerating, therefore the Dragonborn won't run out whereas the Chosen Undead will [Vow of Silence does not change this]) and "knight" (The Dragonborn is also far superior physically, and their skill rivals if not exceeds that of the Chosen Undead with additional formal training) portions of the trope, leaving the Chosen Undead with little recourse in an all-out brawl, and likely would not defeat the Dragonborn before going Hollow, which is treated as a death.
  • Multi-Melee Master: The Chosen Undead's profile video notes that they carry a massive array of weapons, with some stand-out examples being the Moonlight Greatsword and Smough's Great Hammer.
  • No Body Left Behind: Merges with the First Flame which the Dragonborn extinguishes.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: As noted by Jocelyn, the "undead" of Dark Souls are not truly undead like reanimated corpses or skeletons, but rather the immortality of humans Gone Horribly Wrong due to the gods' meddling with the Dark Sign. This means the Dragonborn's arsenal of undead-slaying weapons wouldn't have any noticeable bonus effect, to the point in the animation the Chosen Undead gets impaled and set on fire by the Dawnbreaker and keeps going, though it's not enough for the Undead to take the win regardless.
  • Out of Continues: It's noted that while the Chosen Undead can keep coming back via the Undead Curse, they start to turn Hollow each time they do so and once they fully Hollow out, it's considered a form of death. And unfortunately for the Chosen Undead, they didn't have the power to take down the Dragonborn before this would happen.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: While choking out the Dragonborn, the Undead utters the iconic line: "Prepare to Die." Subverted; the fact that the Undead was able to speak at all clues the Dragonborn in that the Vow of Silence was no longer in effect, and allowed him to shout the Undead off of him.
  • Pull Yourself Down the Spear: When he is impaled on Dawnbreaker, he inches along it until he can strangle the Dragonborn.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Due to the Undead Curse, The Chosen Undead (and everyone else) is unable to stay dead, with each death leading them to be resurrected at the nearest Bonfire, suffering the slow loss of their identity, personality and sanity and becoming feral Hollows by the end of it. On the plus side, almost nothing can actually put them down for good, not even getting their soul sucked. It should be noted, however, that becoming a Hollow was considered a form of death, and given that the Chosen Undead simply did not have enough power to bring the Dragonborn down before that would happen, it's the Dragonborn's victory. In the animation, they instead opt to link the First Flame after dying to the Dragonborn a third time, putting them down for good (and then the First Flame is promptly extinguished by the Dragonborn's Unrelenting Force).
  • Shield Bash: He smacks the Dragonborn with his shield a few times.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Where they've never had spoken voicelines in the game, the Chosen Undead surprisingly speaks one line in the Death Battle proper.
    Chosen Undead: Prepare... to die...
  • Sword Beam: While wielding the Moonlight Greatsword, the Chosen Undead unleashes a flurry of blasts of lunar energy.
  • Unnecessary Combat Roll: At the start of the fight, he makes the Dragonborn chase him and repeatedly swing and miss by rolling.

    Killua VS Misaka
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Killua and Misaka are just as smart and observant as they're powerful, being able to decipher their opponents' moves and techniques mid battle. In fact, it's noted that thanks to this and the nature of both fighters' series, the two are capable of taking down opponents way stronger than them, meaning leading a strength gap wouldn't be enough for a certain win for either fighter. Misaka edges out thanks to the sheer versatility of her powerset compared to Killua's relatively-straightforward abilities, meaning that she would likely figure him out and catch him in a fatal trap first.
  • Battle of Wits: The two spend the battle constantly strategizing and figuring out the other's strengths and weaknesses while finding counters to their abilities. Unfortunately for Killua, Misaka edges him out and wins by tricking him into destroying an iron sand clone and then encasing him in the sand so she can finish him with her railgun attack.
  • David Versus Goliath: It turns into this when Misaka uses her electromagnetism to form her iron sand giant. While Killua was able to destroy the Iron Sand Kaiju, he wasn't able to defeat Misaka.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: A downplayed example. Killua and Misaka have attacks that allow them to attack at both short and long range. However, Killua's powers mostly focus on boosting his physical strength and speed for hand-to-hand combat while Misaka's powers work better at distance. The two recognize each other's weaknesses during the fight and try to manipulate the battle to best serve their respective specialties.
  • Magic Versus Science: Killua represents the magic side of this fight due to drawing his power from the esoteric technique called "Nen", while Misaka's Esper abilities are depended on scientific theory and phenomenon. Misaka nets the win for Science in this case.
  • Shock and Awe: Both Killua and Misaka are capable of producing electricity that they use in a wide variety of ways in combat. Unfortunately for Killua, Misaka can produce far more electricity and use it in a far wider variety of ways.
  • Smug Super: Both electrokinetics used to have arrogant demeanors and took great pride in their skills before eventually learning that they can't do everything on their own and that they need to rely on others.
  • Teen Genius:
    • Killua: A 14-year-old virtuoso in the art of murder and combat.
    • Misaka is a 14-year-old science prodigy. This combined with her incredible powers makes her a very impressive opponent.
  • Weak, but Skilled: "Weak" is relative, as both possess superhuman strength and agility as well as powerful electrokinesis, but they're far from the most powerful beings in their respective universes. Yet, despite often being outclassed physically, both have managed to outwit and defeat much more powerful foes. This leads to the fight not being a complete Curb-Stomp Battle, as while Killua was massively outclassed, especially in terms of speed, he's managed to keep up with enemies who have an even bigger power gap than Mikasa does to him. This means he might be able to find ways to win using his intelligence, and the main reason why this wasn't enough to give him the victory is because Mikasa has the smarts to do the same.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: While normally both Killua and Misaka's electricity is depicted as blue in their canons, in the fight animation itself Misaka's is colored yellow while Killua's remains blue, likely to provide a distinct contrast and make it clear whose attacks are whose.

Killua Zoldyck

Killua: "You want it? Come and get it!"
Voiced by: Giselle Fernandez

Hunter × Hunter's Prodigious Lightning Assassin
  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Can turn his fingernails into claws sharp enough to slice off limbs.
  • Awesome McCoolname: Boomstick considers this to be the case for Killua's name merely for the fact that it has the word "Kill" in it.
  • Beat Still, My Heart: One of Killua's more infamous actions is tearing the heart of a serial killer right out of his chest. He seemingly pulls this off on Misaka near the fight's end, only for it to be revealed he attacked an iron sand decoy; a mistake that soon proves to be his undoing.
  • Bullet Catch: Killua catches Misaka's Coin Railgun at the start of the fight, though it did push him back a bit.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Downplayed, as Killua does have ranged options, but is stronger and the better close range fighter compared to Misaka. He realizes this in the battle and makes a note to prioritize getting into melee range. Unfortunately for Killua, Misaka has experience fighting people superior to her in melee combat.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The Zoldycks didn't exactly take kindly to him running away from home, and he was tortured as punishment until Gon rescued him.
  • Doppelgänger Spin: His Rhythm Echo ability allows him to create afterimages of himself strong enough to fool even those with extrasensory abilities. He does this by altering the cadence of his footsteps, causing an auditory illusion. Misaka struggles with it at first, but she works around it quickly enough by throwing iron sand onto the ground and attacking the one that visibly disturbs it.
  • The Gadfly: The fight starts because he refuses to give Misaka's Gekota badge back to her and actively taunts her over it. That's what cost him his life.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With his best friend Gon, though Boomstick seems to think their bromance is something more and only held back by Killua not knowing how to properly express his feelings. That said, Killua began to realize just how inadvertently toxic and dependent their friendship was with the sort of risks Gon would throw himself into, and Killua chose to go his own separate way in order to better protect his little sister Alluka even if he's always ready to jump back into the fight if Gon gives him the message.
  • Invisible to Normals: Aura and Transmitter techniques derived from it are invisible to regular people, so Killua's lightning should follow this rule. However, as Misaka's powers are so connected to electricity, she would likely be able to sense it regardless.
  • Killer Yo-Yo: His signature weapons are two metallic yo-yos that he can enhance with electricity and are powerful enough to chop down trees. However, Misaka is able to avoid them and then redirect them to tie him up, forcing him to destroy the string to get free.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: After being immobilized by the iron sand decoy, he's blown to pieces by Misaka's Railgun.
  • Meaningful Name: Boomstick finds the Kill in Killua's name to be on-the-nose. Awesomely so. Wiz, on the other hand, guesses it might actually derive from kilowatt.
  • Mugging the Monster: When Misaka tells him to give back her lost Gekota badge, he, not knowing who she is, smugly taunts her to take it. The resulting fight ends with him blown into Ludicrous Gibs and the badge falling right into the exhausted Misaka's hand, and the post-analysis reiterates that Misaka is a Person of Mass Destruction with output and arsenal far outclassing his own.
  • No-Sell: Downplayed, as Killua has explicitly stated that his ability to resist electrical shocks is more akin to a tolerance built up through his training than outright immunity, and he still feels pain from them. Regardless, he can shrug off a million volts at once... Unfortunately, considering Misaka is able to output billions of volts, this resistance didn't matter, especially since this resistance mostly only relates to pain and wouldn't protect him from Misaka causing organ failure with her powers.
  • Professional Killer: The Zoldycks are a whole family of hired assassins, and while Killua isn't keen on going into the family business he has the skills to prove it.
  • Restraining Bolt: He used to have one in the form of a needle put in his brain by his older brother, which unknowingly to him would trigger his self-preservation instincts to run from any fight he wasn't guaranteed to win. He eventually found out about it and had it removed.
  • The Runaway: Killua doesn't have much interest in the family business and ran away to join the Hunter's Association.
  • Super Mode: Godspeed, where Killua channels his lightning straight into his own body to achieve even higher levels of strength and speed, though it rapidly burns through his electricity supply and ends when he runs out. Using this, he was able to overwhelm (though not defeat before his limit ran out and it's noted said foe was still stronger) the Chimera Ant Youpi, who could create a crater with an explosive force of 18 megatons of TNT, and a pop-up notes by scaling Killua to Morel, who blocked Youpi's explosion at only 35% power, he could theoretically compare to 51 megatons of TNT. But even this form pales to the power of foes Misaka scales against.
  • Super-Strength: He's strong enough despite his small size to push 64-ton solid rock doors open. Physically, he's much stronger than Misaka; however, as Boomstick lampshades, it would avail him little against six million tons of iron sand being dropped on him.
  • Super-Speed: Killua's Nen lightning has been repeatedly compared to real lightning, meaning he should have similar speeds under his belt, and Godspeed ramps him up further. However, compared to Misaka's lightspeed lightning and she herself dodging lightspeed particle beams, he still comes up short, giving her the breathing room to keep ahead of him and at a distance.
  • Super-Toughness: He's survived a forest-clearing explosion from a Chimera Ant Captain judged to be worth 3.29 kilotons of TNT. Unfortunately for him, Misaka could bring out the destructive force to make this moot.
  • Tyke Bomb: He was learning the ways of murder since he was 3 years old, but subverted as he turned out to be the White Sheep of the family that lacked their cold-blooded killer instincts, much to the sadness of his parents and older siblings.

Mikoto Misaka

Misaka: "Distance: 35 metres. Altitude: 45... 40... now."
Voiced by: Finty Kelly Lowe

Academy City's Ace Electric Princess
  • The Ace: As one of only seven Level 5s in all of Academy City, Misaka is among the most powerful Espers in the world.
  • Actually a Doombot: She fools Killua with an iron sand decoy at the end. It wins the fight, as she has the iron sand encase and impale him, leaving him wide open for the killing blow.
  • Can't Catch Up: Something Misaka quickly began to realize as she fought alongside her crush Touma is that for all her strength as a Level 5 Esper, she's still a small fry compared to the literal magic gods he goes up against on the regular. But none of that will stop her from supporting him to the end, and her opponent for this fight to the death is very much in her capacity to take down.
  • Clone Angst: As a naïve little kid, Misaka gave a sample of her DNA to some scientists who claimed they were going to use it to cure fatal diseases. Years later, she discovered, to her horror, that they actually used her DNA to create thousands of clones intended to serve as Cannon Fodder for an inhumane experiment. In her increasingly desperate attempts to save them from their fates, it got to the point she was ready to sacrifice herself for their sakes before Touma showed up.
  • Deity of Human Origin: While normally a Level 5 Esper, Mikasa is capable of ascending to a Level 6 Esper, but it's noted in her breakdown that she's not able to do this except under very specific circumstances that weren't of her own volition and likely wouldn’t be able to survive the transformation anyways. Not that she would need the power-up to win this fight, however.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Alright, Misaka, Killua did refuse to give back your lost Gekota badge and was a bit of a smug prick with the taunt to take it, but immediately using a Railgun for the opening move was a bit of an overreaction.
  • Genius Bruiser: Misaka is a Person of Mass Destruction, but also extremely intelligent as her power requires her to be constantly aware of her surroundings and calculating the mathematical formulas to make her abilities work the way she wants. This shows during the battle, as she's constantly planning in her head how to counter Killua's powers.
  • Kaiju: Give her enough iron sand and she can form it into a gigantic monster, weighing 6 million tons. She uses it during the fight to try to overwhelm Killua, but he avoids its attack and disrupts it with a lightning bolt.
  • Little Miss Badass: She's a middle school student who's a top-level esper and a human thunderstorm.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Downplayed, as Misaka does have options for close quarters fighting, but most of her powers are better served at range and she's far superior to Killua in this regard. She recognizes this during the fight and resolves to keep him at a distance as much as she can, and combined with her superior speed it contributes to her victory.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: Has control over magnetism through her electric powers, with one listed feat being have launched 1288 tons of steel at Mach 473. She can even form iron sand out of small particles in the air for various moves such as tornadoes, body decoys, vibrating blades, and even a skyscraper-sized titan. This enables her to perform her signature move, and what she's nicknamed for: Railgun.
  • Magnetic Weapons: Her signature move is the Railgun, where she fashions the magnetic "rails" out of electricity and ionized air to fire a projectile of her choice at least at Mach 3, though a pop-up notes it can likely go faster since it once outsped a Mach 20 missile and was described as "superluminal", meaning air resistance and Misaka's own restraint act as limiters. The fight both starts and ends with the Railgun: She tries it at the start of the fight, but Killua catches the coin she fired. However, when he's immobilized by iron sand, Misaka gives it another shot, and this one proves to be far more effective, reducing Killua to Ludicrous Gibs.
  • One-Hit Kill: It's noted in the post-analysis that Misaka's lightning is powerful enough to cause targeted organ failure, and since her lightning is much stronger than any Killua has resisted by a factor of at least 1000x (Misaka can absorb and dish out at least a billion volts, while Killua's maximum known tolerance is a million volts) and his tolerance only amounted to pain resistance, this would have been a viable method to win the fight.
  • One-Man Army: One of her listed feats is being able to solo 200 enemy troops.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Misaka on her own can create a city-spanning thundercloud that would require an energy equivalent of 58 kilotons of TNT to pull off, and she's stalemated the Saint Brunhild, who regularly gets sent against mountain-busting foes and once defeated the magician Hel, who froze over the ocean with a yield of 333 megatons of TNT. This was much higher than anything Killua could do himself or anyone he could be scaled to.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: After defeating Killua, she falls on her back in exhaustion. Lucky for her, her lost Gekota badge falls right into her hand as a reward.
  • Powered Armor: It's briefly mentioned in a pop-up that Misaka has access to a mech suit known as the Anti-Art Attachment in the New Testament and Genesis Testament novels, but it was excluded from the fight due to being fairly divorced from her usual powerset plus being currently destroyed as of the episode's airing. Though given how many advantages she proved to have on Killua with just her regular powerset, using it would have just been overkill.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Before finishing off Killua, she recites these calculations to fire her Railgun, "Distance: 35 metres. Altitude: 45... 40... now."
  • Shock and Awe: Her signature ability is manipulating electromagnetism. Thanks to all her hard work, she found a lot of uses for it and can output billions of volts. This gives her an edge against Killua whose maximum voltage output is only in the millions.
  • Signature Move: Mikasa's most iconic attack is the Railgun, where she uses her electromagnetic manipulation to form two parallel magnetic rails which accelerate a metal object (most commonly a coin) to extreme speeds. She uses it several times in the fight, including right at the start and as the finishing blow.
  • Spider-Sense: One of her power's many applications involves sensing her surroundings with an electromagnetic radar.
  • Super-Reflexes: She's fast enough to react to and dodge Mugino's particle beams, which move near or at lightspeed, and her own lightning has been explicitly stated to move at lightspeed no less than five times. This was a major edge against Killua, who despite his superior strength and close-combat skill would have been hard-pressed to actually outspeed and catch her.
  • Swiss-Army Superpower: Her lightning powers are incredibly versatile and her high intelligence means she can get very creative in using them. This is a major advantage over Killua, whose skillset was much less varied than hers.
  • Tsundere: A classic example for Kamijou Touma, who she both loves and mistreats, much to Boomstick's annoyance.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Mikasa offered a DNA sample to scientists when she was just a child, believing that it would be used for important medical research. She never realized that she was contributing to a sinister plot to turn Accelerator into a Level 6 Esper by having thousands of her clones helplessly slaughtered.
  • [Verb] This!: She lets out one of these as she has her iron sand giant ready its attack (a supersized version of her Railgun):
    Misaka: Catch this.
  • Vibroweapon: Can form a vibrating blade out of iron sand. Boomstick likens it to a chainsaw... man.

    Stitch VS Rocket Raccoon
  • Badass Adorable: As potentially deadly as they are cute and fluffy.
  • Foil: They may be both small and fluffy science experiments with a knack for weapons and a found family, but their start and ending points very much differ: Stitch was created by Jumba to be a destroyer of worlds, but became a relatively more peaceful creature who values his family over all else, while Rocket was created to be a caretaker on Halfworld, but became the anti-hero member of the Guardians instead.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Both are gruff at first, but have good hearts.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The snarkier and more logical Rocket is the blue to the wilder and more animalistic Stitch's red. Though, interestingly, in the episode, it's noted that combat-wise, it's the other way around, as while Rocket tends to lose his cool pretty often and go in guns blazing, Stitch tends to stay more cool-headed in the midst of battle.
  • Rocket-Tag Gameplay: Due to the incredible power of Rocket's weaponry and Stitch's physical strength, it's noted that despite Rocket's Glass Cannon nature and Stitch's greater durability, one single hit is all it would take for one to finish the other off. It's due to greater reaction speed and intelligence that Stitch is able to net the win.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: Small in size, big in brainpower (although, it's tech expertise vs. supercomputer-level intelligence).
  • Starfish Aliens: Both are extraterrestrial combatants, whose physiologies are rather bizarre. Stitch is a Hybrid Monster made up of multiple alien creatures' DNA, while Rocket is a Halfworlder who looks exactly like a raccoon despite not biologically being one.
  • Super-Reflexes: Both Stitch and Rocket have displayed impressive reflexes that puts both fighters at light speed. But while Rocket can manage light speed dodging and his weaponry operate at the picosecond, Stitch far outclasses him by the millions thanks to his mind working at the quintillionth of a second, and his piloting his ship moving at a million times the speed of light meant that Rocket is far too slow to reliably hit Stitch, all the while Stitch could simply wait until Rocket slipped and take the win.

Stitch (Experiment 626)

Stitch: "Meega nala kweesta!"
Voiced by: Delton Engle-Sorrell

Disney's Extraordinary Experiment 626
  • An Arm and a Leg: During the battle, he ends up losing his extra limbs as a result of being struck by Rocket's cold fusion cannon.
  • Beat Them at Their Own Game: Despite the post-fight analysis saying that Stitch could always crush Rocket with brute force, he actually takes another route to victory in the fight itself: assembling a weapon out of junk and using it to kill Rocket, a tactic the Guardian himself favors.
  • Birds of a Feather: Boomstick mentions how Stitch found kinship with Lilo due to her being, in Boomstick's words, "a devil child who didn't fit in," just like Stitch himself.
  • Character Catchphrase: Stitch's go-to insult is, "Meega nala kweesta," an infamously vulgar Tantalog sentence. Wiz and Boomstick are apparently aware of what said phrase actually means, and are repulsed by it to the point of throwing up on the spot. He even says this to Rocket, who almost vomits as a result and outright decides to bust out his Thanos-harming cold fusion cannon in response.
  • Close-Range Combatant: While Stitch has his own guns and his super spit, he's got a massive strength advantage over Rocket while lacking his wide arsenal of long-range weapons. Luckily for Stitch, his speed and intelligence allow him to catch up with Rocket and strike him down. In the fight itself, he has a noticeably difficult time closing the distance and takes a whole lot of Amusing Injuries before finally getting in close for a fatal blow.
  • Ditzy Genius: Despite him being a genius who has a brain comparable to a supercomputer, Stitch is very goofy and sometimes lacks common sense.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: It's noted that Stitch had managed to worm his way into other Disney movies in the past, and in the end of the episode as Wiz is declaring Stitch's victory, Stitch himself breaks into the studio to announce his own victory, bringing in a good lot of chaos (and apparently turkeys), much to Wiz and Boomstick's horror.
  • Genius Bruiser: Despite his appearance and mannerisms, Jumba created him with super intelligence to match his super strength. He can think faster than a supercomputer and his intellect was specifically based on Jumba's, who is stated to have the combined IQ of an entire galaxy. This gave him a major advantage over his opponent.
  • Hybrid Monster: Jumba created Stitch by combining the DNA of the most dangerous and evil creatures in the universe into a single all-powerful living weapon. At least, that's what he was supposed to be before he ended up crash-landing in Hawaii (having previously been banished to an asteroid), befriended humans (and later, several other Experiments who joined him), and ultimately pulled a Heel–Face Turn.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Doesn't hesitate to taunt Rocket with Tantalog insults twice during the fight. The first was an equivalent to Your Mom and caused Rocket to pause his fire, and the second was the infamous "Meega nala kweesta", which caused Rocket to nearly puke; then pull out the Thanos-hurting cold fusion cannon.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He's fast enough to catch fire while moving, strong enough to lift three thousand times his own weight, and tough enough to shrug off more-or-less all forms of firepower.
  • MacGyvering: After he's blasted into the ocean by Rocket's Cold Fusion cannon, he notices Rocket's dropped missile launcher among a bunch of the Milano's scrap. He constructs a bayonet rocket contraption out of all that in seconds, helping him to get out of the water.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Stitch has four arms in his true form, though he retracts the middle pair into his torso when posing as a dog. Unfortunately for him, Stitch does end up losing his extra limbs after being shot by Rocket's cold fusion cannon.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Thanks to Jumba's experiments, his exterior is virtually indestructible; having shrugged off bullets, fire, and explosions, and survived being sucked into a black hole... twice. Though the tradeoff is that comes with a very high molecular density that renders him unable to swim. But while Rocket's weaker weapons wouldn't be able to scratch him, with the animation even having Stitch be bombarded with a ton of weapons and come out without a scratch, Rocket's stronger weapons had more than enough power to kill him, with a single shot from his cold fusion cannon managing to not only make Stitch bleed but outright blasting off some of his arms. Though despite this, Stitch manages to survive long enough to finish off Rocket.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: After being adopted by Lilo, Stitch's appearance would be played off as being a very ugly dog — helped by his ability to retract his antennae, middle pair of limbs, and dorsal spines.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite his cute and fluffy appearance, Stitch is a super strong and nearly indestructible powerhouse with a wide assortment of abilities, on top of being handy with four Laser Pistols.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Stitch just looks like a feral animal on the outside, but he takes after Jumba in intelligence, and Jumba is said to be smarter than an entire galaxy combined. In the post-fight analysis, he's actually judged to be smarter than Rocket, a master tactician himself.
  • Super Drowning Skills: His body's molecular density is so high that he's incapable of floating, which is a bit of a problem given that he landed on one of the wettest places on Earth. In the fight, this almost cost him his life but luckily for Stitch, he saw some broken-down rockets which he quickly assembled to blast his way out of the water and towards Rocket.
  • Super-Intelligence: Dr. Jumba gave him a brain that could outperform a supercomputer, derived from Jumba's own intelligence, which is stated to be on par with that of another galaxy's entire population combined. In the post-fight breakdown, it's noted that Stitch wasn't just stronger than Rocket, but smarter as well.
  • Super-Senses: Stitch can hear whispers from miles and see on various spectrums, even being able to telescopically zoom in on objects miles away.
  • Super Spit: He can spit at machine gun rates and his saliva is capable of short-circuiting electronics, gluing things together, and can even be acidic enough to melt rocks.
  • Super-Strength: He can lift 3000 times his own body weight, which again it should be noted is unnaturally high for his size due to his incredibly dense molecular structure. This allows him to do things like casually twirl a semi-truck and its attached trailer. Left unsaid in the episode is that he can only lift up to 3000 times exactly (even just an ounce more and the object is suddenly too heavy for Stitch), though considering he outmuscles Rocket either way (and Rocket had no way to figure this out easily) it doesn't matter that the hosts left out this tidbit.
  • Superior Successor: Stitch's original name "Experiment 626" isn't some random science number; he's the 626th one created by Jumba and explicitly called his finest by Jumba himself. Stitch has beaten nearly all of his predecessors in fights to prove it, many of whom qualify for Person of Mass Destruction status themselves such as Holio, who can create a universe-consuming black hole.
  • Your Mom: He says "yu porma dissy" to Rocket, which is him insulting his opponent's mother in Tantalog.

Rocket Raccoon (Subject 88213)

Rocket: "That's it, gonna need a bigger gun!"
Voiced by: Jeff Schine

Marvel's Murderous Mercenary Mustelid
  • Berserk Button: Even before his own preview, Wiz mentions that he hates being called a raccoon at the end of Stitch's preview.
  • BFG: Rocket has several at his disposal, one of which was capable of harming Thanos, who can fight multiverse level beings. While this did give him a way to kill Stitch, Stitch’s superior speed and other abilities meant he was unlikely to land a killing blow with it.
  • Broken Win/Loss Streak: He's the first Marvel character to lose since Scarlet Witch after the victories of Thor (in this case, his second), Magneto, Apocalypse, and Ant-Man.
  • Composite Character: Averted. A box note lists that Rocket's origin is much different in the Marvel Cinematic Universe than it is in the comics, thus they were sticking to the comics for this.
  • Curse Cut Short: As he realizes he's about to die via being sent to crash into his own Orbital Weapons Stash, all Rocket can say is "Motherfu-" before the ensuring explosion kills him.
  • Cyborg: Was subjected to cyber-genetic experimentation by the rulers of Halfworld to be the warden of its criminally insane inhabitants. These augmentations boost his physical abilities to the point he's able to hold his own — at least for a while — against opponents as powerful as the Venom symbiote-controlled Groot.
  • Death by Irony: Three-fold. First, Rocket gets impaled by a literal rocket that Stitch made, second, Stitch made the rocket out of the remains of both Rocket's spaceship and missile launcher, and third, Rocket is ultimately done in when the rocket drags him all the way to his own Orbital Weapons Stash, causing a massive explosion on impact.
  • Determinator: Despite getting run through with a rocket-spear, he spends his last moments trying to get his broken control panel to work before he realizes he's due for a lethal collision.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Rocket's reaction to Stitch's "Meega nala kweesta" is to unleash his Thanos Buster.
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: Rocket went from being Halfworld's prospective warden to a spacefaring adventurer to an inmate in an intergalactic prison, which left him a hardened and cynical gun-nut by the time he joined the Guardians of the Galaxy — a ragtag crew of misfit mercenaries.
  • Funny Animal: Rocket is an extraterrestrial virtually identical to an Earth raccoon save for having opposable thumbs and being bipedal, and he hates being mistaken for a trash panda.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Not only does Rocket have a tendency to take virtually every weapon he can think of into a firefight, he actually designed and built most of them himself. He's also quite the adept strategist in combat.
  • Glass Cannon: It's noted that compared to the other Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket's durability is nowhere near as good as theirs, with him outright being called this in the analysis. Though while this weakness wasn't enough to deem a complete loss as his weapons are capable of one-shotting Stitch, he didn't have the speed or reaction time to take him out before Stitch could nail him with a one-shot of his own.
  • The Gunslinger: Rocket's main method of solving problems is firing every heater he can get his furry mitts on, and if he can't find any, he can always make one himself. He's even landed some hardware that can hurt Thanos, much less kill Stitch.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Is quick to anger and quick to pull the trigger as well. He gets irate when Stitch insults his mom, and Stitch's "Meega nala kweesta" is enough for Rocket to bring out the Thanos Buster. This is noted to be a disadvantage, as while Rocket has a habit of flying off the handle guns blazing and thus losing sight of important cues, Stitch despite his appearance usually keeps a cool head in his fights paired with his Super-Intelligence.
  • Has a Type: He has a thing for otter women.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He's impaled on a rocket made from his missile launcher that flies him right into his very own Orbital Weapons Stash, which explodes and takes him out completely.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Part of his fate as he's skewered by a juryrigged rocket that Stitch built, before being sent to crash into his Orbital Weapons Stash.
  • Long-Range Fighter: Rocket's massive wall of guns means he's got a comfortable range advantage over Stitch, whose best shot at winning is closing the distance and just crushing Rocket with his superior strength. Unfortunately for Rocket, Stitch is speedy and smart enough to do just that. In the fight itself, he keeps Stitch away for most of the runtime, but meets his demise when his opponent finally catches up at the end.
  • Musical Theme Naming: He's named after The Beatles song "Rocky Raccoon". This causes a bit of confusion, as Boomstick does extensive research on the song, thinking the combatant comes from that.
  • No Body Left Behind: He's blown up with his Orbital Weapons Stash.
  • Profane Last Words: The last thing he says, or at least attempts to, is "Motherfucker", but that gets cut short when he crashes into his Orbital Weapons Stash.
  • Teleport Spam: One of his gadgets allows for teleportation, which he puts to good use when Stitch manages to close the distance on him to both avoid being attacked and set up a huge bomb while escaping the blast radius. Unfortunately for Rocket, Stitch takes notice and makes sure to crush the device in his teeth after impaling Rocket on his makeshift rocket to make sure he can't escape his fate.
  • Translator Buddy: He translates whatever Groot says since his words always come out as, "I am Groot."
  • The Worf Barrage: Rocket's massive arsenal of automated turrets and flamethrowers are unloaded on Stitch, followed by a nuke. Stitch gets some Amusing Injuries but ultimately ends up no worse for wear, even surfing on the wave caused by the nuke. It's not until Rocket brings out the Cold Fusion gun, aka the very weapon that can grievously hurt Thanos, that he lands noticeable damage.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Rocket is reduced to uttering this when Stitch managed to survive a blast from the Thanos Blaster and is riding a missile towards him.

    Darth Vader VS Obito Uchiha
  • Evil Former Friend: Both Darth Vader and Obito used to be close friends to snarky comrades (Obi-Wan Kenobi and Kakashi, respectively). Ironically, said comrades have fought each other in a previous episode.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Interestingly, neither one had a deep, intimidating voice at first. Vader's is a result of the filter on his suit and Obito's is an imitation of Madara's voice. Obito even stops speaking in a baritone after Vader shatters his mask in the fight.
  • Fallen Hero: Both Darth Vader and Obito were protectors who fought on the side of good until the death of their Love Interests (Padmé Amidala and Rin Nohara, respectively) led them down a darker path.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Anakin was born a slave and Obito was an easily overlooked outcast as a boy, but by adulthood, both would become ruthless, dangerous enforcers wielding vast powers fueled by hatred and grief.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: The teaser at the end of "Stitch VS Rocket Raccoon" prominently emphasizes that both Darth Vader and Obito are villains known for the iconic masks they wear.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Vader wielding the full power of the Dark Side of the Force and Obito utilizing the power of the Ten Tails allows them both to achieve planetary levels of destruction. The hosts note raw-power-wise they were effectively even, which is shown in the animation with Vader managing to counter the Ten Tails' Tailed Beast Bomb, and thus the fight would come down more to their individual skills and powers rather than stats.
  • Recurring Element: This is the second matchup we've seen between Star Wars and Naruto, the first being Obi-Wan versus Kakashi from Season 7.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Both Darth Vader and Obito sacrifice themselves for the greater good after being influenced by a student of their former friends (Luke Skywalker and Naruto Uzumaki, respectively).
  • Shadow Archetype: Both provide a kind of warning to the protagonists they oppose, showing what they could become if they ever give in to the darker sides of their character.
  • Tragic Villain: Both may have been villainous, but both have sympathetic backstories, lost their love interests to their former friends, and ended up being manipulated by bigger antagonists.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Ultimately, both were manipulated by greater antagonists (Palpatine and Madara, respectively).
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Originally, both of them wanted to bring peace to their worlds when they were younger. Darth Vader was The Chosen One destined to bring balance to the Force while Obito dreamed of becoming the Hokage to bring peace to the Hidden Leaf Village.

Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker)

Darth Vader: "On the path of the Dark Side, it is inevitable."
Voiced by: Jason Marnocha

Dark Lord of the Sith
  • Alas, Poor Villain: He dies while trapped in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, experiencing a life robbed from him that he could've spent with Padmé. Even Obito expresses some pity towards him.
  • An Arm and a Leg: His left hand is destroyed when it is hit by a Truth Seeking Orb.
  • Back for the Dead: While Vader does do better here than against Doctor Doom in Season 2, ultimately he dies once more at Obito's hands.
  • Broken Ace: Anakin was an incredibly talented and powerful Jedi who quickly rose through the ranks of the Order and could keep pace with far more experienced Jedi and Sith. Unfortunately his inability to accept loss eventually led him down the path to the Dark Side.
  • Broken Faceplate: One of his helmet's lenses breaks after an assault from Obito, revealing Vader's yellow-Sith eye, and the rest of the upper-half is destroyed after getting smacked by Obito's Truth-Seeking Orb staff, revealing his unnaturally-pale hairless and scarred upper face.
  • The Bus Came Back: He was last seen as a combatant losing to Doctor Doom back in Season 2 and was last seen in a cameo as an illusion in Obi-Wan VS Kakashi in Season 7. It turns out to be Back for the Dead, as Vader once again falls to his foe.
  • Close-Range Combatant: While the Force gives Vader plenty of options for long-range, he prefers to fight up-close with his lightsaber. This was noted to be a disadvantage as it meant Obito would have few problems trying to hit him the Truth Seeking Orbs or even sucking him into the Kamui dimension.
  • Composite Character: Recent comic feats of the Disney continuity are brought up while Vader uses the Legends continuity's intentionally outdated armour and Charal from the Ewoks cartoon is brought up as a lesser Dark Side user to scale.
  • Cool Starship: The TIE Advanced x1, the starfighter Vader used against the Rebels towards the end of A New Hope. During the battle he arrives on-planet atop it, then later controls it remotely with the Force to deluge Obito in laser fire.
  • Cyborg: After his limbs were sliced off and his body was severely burned due to falling into lava during his fight against Obi-Wan; Palpatine saved him by rebuilding his body out of cybernetic parts.
  • Dark Lord on Life Support: Courtesy of having his three remaining organic limbs lopped off and being dunked in lava by Obi-Wan, Vader was rebuilt as a cyborg with an imposing cybernetic exoskeleton doubling as a life support suit. However, Palpatine had the suit built using outdated technology and designed it to aggravate Vader as much as possible to both punish him for failing to kill Obi-Wan and to let him better access the Dark Side of the Force through his pain. Occasionally, the life support will shut off for minutes at a time for no real reason, and it's heavy enough that Vader sometimes has to use the Force to move it.
  • Determinator: At one point, Palpatine destroyed Vader's armor and his cybernetic limbs, dropped him right back on Mustafar, and told him to make it back to him without using the Force. And Vader did exactly that.
  • The Fettered: As a Jedi, Anakin was supposed to be this, hence the "no attachments" part, but he could never accept the idea of becoming willing to throw away the bonds he made and thus he became the exact opposite.
  • Handicapped Badass: You'd think the Emperor's right-hand man would get state-of-the-art prosthetics, but thanks to the Dark Side being fueled by negative emotions (and Palpatine being a trollish dickhead), Vader's suit is doing the bare minimum to keep his extremely scarred body alive and is even actively irritating him in some ways. Still hasn't stopped him from amassing an enormous body count.
  • Laser Blade: As Anakin Skywalker, he brandished a blue lightsaber, but as Darth Vader, he sports a blood-red lightsaber.
  • Love Is a Weakness: He is directly done in by his love for Padmé Amidala. An illusion of her from Obito causes him to lose his cool and nearly gets him sucked into the Kamui dimension before Vader violently retaliates. Obito later exploits it with the Infinite Tsukuyomi to make a vision of Padmé appear to Vader and leave him wide open for a death blow.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Part of being a Jedi means abandoning all emotional attachments, something Anakin was unable to cope with. Seeing visions of his wife’s death convinced him to turn to The Dark Side to find the power to save her.
  • Master Swordsman: Anakin was a master of the Form V lightsaber combat styles Shien and Djenn So, or "Way of the Krayt Dragon", a style that combines parries with devastating counterattacks, perfect for dealing with both blasters and lightsabers. He was skilled enough that he could keep up with more skilled Jedi and Sith and even defeated Count Dooku with this style. It's no wonder Boomstick compares it to turning the creature Din Djarin blew up from the inside into a lightsaber.
  • Mind over Matter: One of the abilities the Force gives Anakin/Vader is telekinesis, letting him move objects with a mere gesture. This also allows to crush objects with a mere gesture, such as a foe's lungs.
  • No Body Left Behind: Though unlike his last battle with Doctor Doom where he gets melted into the lava, in this battle, he gets completely smashed into nothingness courtesy of Obito while under the genjutsu.
  • No-Sell: Vader casually strolls through Obito's fire jutsu without injury, and even manages to shrink and negate the Ten Tails' Tailed Beast Bomb with the Force.
  • Ominous Walk: Vader slowly walks towards Obito after tossing him back with the Force and nothing he throws at him, from chakra receiver spears or a pillar of fire from the ground, makes him break stride before grabbing Obito with the Force again to drag him back in.
  • The Power of Hate: The Sith view the Force as a tool from which they draw power through passion and emotion, with a favorite being hatred. And Vader has plenty of hatred to draw on, whether it's for Palpatine manipulating him, putting him in a faulty life-support system, or constantly sending assassins after him to keep him on his toes; or for himself being responsible for much of his own misery. It can even let him survive injuries or conditions that should have otherwise killed him. Unfortunately, all the hate in the cosmos cannot match Obito's Healing Factor as while he can survive blows that should kill him, it can't restore lost limbs.
  • Robotic Reveal: Well, Cyborg Reveal, but a clash between Vader's Force Push and Obito's Deva Path creates blowback powerful enough to tear away the covering on Vader's leg to reveal its robotic nature, much to Obito's surprise.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Turning to the Dark Side of the Force caused Vader's eyes to turn from brown to red-rimmed yellow.
  • Super-Reflexes: He's fast enough to easily block a laser explicitly mentioned to move at lightspeed and he scales to his son Luke, who outsped a foe named Guri capable of moving within 6.1 picoseconds. It was judged he and Obito were roughly even here.
  • Tempting Fate: Vader begins the fight because he wants the power in Obito's eyes, and while he suffers one of the less horrific deaths in the series...boy, does he ever get a load of it when his enemy completes the Infinite Tsukuyomi.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: At least when you've got the Force to call it back to your hand. He uses this against Obito, but while it does slice apart Obito's war fan the Uchiha sees it on the rebound and simply lets it pass through his body with Kamui.
  • Tranquil Fury: Vader's response to Obito briefly hitting him with an image of Padmé in an attempt to catch him off-guard and leave him vulnerable to being dragged into the Kamui dimension is to brace himself against the suction force and then clench his hand, crushing Obito's Sharingan despite having originally expressed a desire to claim it.
  • Villain Respect: Despite his intentions being clear, he can't help but express some respect towards the Ten Tail's, and even Obito's, power.
  • Weak-Willed: Downplayed, as the Force can resist mental attacks and Vader has overcome illusions before, but it's noted in a post-analysis pop-up that this both requires conscious resistance and Vader has allowed himself to be taken by temptations before as well. More importantly, the Infinite Tsukuyomi's effects are of a much higher tier than anything he's encountered and could affect thousands of people with mental attack resistance. Ultimately, it's what dooms him in the fight animation, as he doesn't have the will to break out of the genjutsu's effect before Obito finishes him off.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Anakin kicked off his career as apprentice Sith Lord Darth Vader by leading the massacre of the Jedi Temple, including personally slaughtering the Younglings.

Tobi (Obito Uchiha)

Obito: "That power will save this cursed world. You'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands."
Voiced by: Nicholas Andrew Louie

Secret Leader of the Akatsuki
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Despite being born into the prodigious Uchiha clan, Obito in his youth seemed to lack much of the natural talent expected of him, which led to him being seen as something of a disappointment and outcast by his people.
  • Badass Transplant: After getting half his body crushed under a boulder, Madara Uchiha replaced Obito's damaged parts with Zetsu material to strengthen him for his plans to be his pawn. Obito later implants Madara's Rinnegan to further the plot for himself.
  • BFS: The Sword of Nunoboko is a massive (as in it's several times longer than Obito himself is tall) DNA-spiral-shaped sword crafted from the Truth Seeking Orbs that was said to have been used to shape the world. He forms it at the end of the fight to completely obliterate the helpless Darth Vader.
  • Blood from the Mouth: He coughs up blood when Vader successfully impales him.
  • Boring, but Practical: While it fails in the fight, Boomstick points out that Obito could end the fight quickly by simply sending Vader to the Kamui Dimension and leaving him to die of starvation, since Vader had no way of escaping and the Force obviously wouldn't exist there due to A) Naruto having no ties to Star Wars and B) The Kamui Dimension being disconnected from other realities unlike how the Force exists even in Hyperspace.
  • Call-Back: Until Vader destroys Obito's mask, Nicholas Andrew Louie reuses the voice he did for Madara in Season 8 for Obito.
  • Child Soldiers: When the Third Great Ninja War broke out, Obito was only eleven years old yet still went to the front lines.
  • Clothing Damage: Aside from his mask being destroyed by Vader, Obito's right sleeve is inexplicably damaged too.
  • Combat Hand Fan: Obito wields a war-fan that converts attacks to wind chakra as a counter-attack, borrowed from Madara. To nobody's shock, it doesn't hold up against a lightsaber cutting through it.
  • Evil Counterpart: Lampshaded by Boomstick, who notes that Obito's backstory — orphaned boy who wants to become Hokage to both help people and be acknowledged by Konoha — is essentially Naruto Uzumaki's own, before he goes off the deep end upon seeing Rin die at Kakashi's hand and deciding his dream was never going to come true in the harsh ninja world.
  • Eye Scream: Vader shuts down his ability to use Kamui by Force Crushing Obito's Sharingan, but he gets it back after becoming the Ten Tails Jinchuriki.
  • Green Thumb: He can use Wood Release thanks to his Zetsu implants, and once he becomes the Ten Tails Jinchuriki he can summon the God Tree, a massive structure through which he casts the Infinite Tsukuyomi off the face of the moon.
  • Healing Factor: As the Ten Tails' Jinchuriki, Obito gains accelerated healing powerful enough to heal half his body being atomized vertically. He uses this to heal all the injuries he took in the first half of the fight and it's a crucial factor in his victory, as his regeneration trumped Vader using the Dark Side to keep himself alive, but was incapable of restoring lost limbs.
  • I'm Dying, Please Take My MacGuffin: Less than ten minutes after unlocking his Sharingan, Obito ended up getting crushed under a boulder and, figuring he wasn't making it out of there alive, chose to give up his left eye to his friend/rival Kakashi, who had lost his. Although it turns out he would get out alive to even his own surprise.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Early in the fight, Vader runs Obito through with his lightsaber, but thanks to Kamui, this doesn't have the effect the fallen Jedi was expecting. After his Mangekyō Sharingan is crushed, however, Vader has much better luck.
  • Intangibility: Obito's Mangekyō Sharingan's unique ability is Kamui, which allows him to more or less turn intangible—which occurs via teleporting the parts of his body that intercept matter into the Kamui dimension—at the cost of not being able to attack or physically interact with other things for the duration it's active. He notably can't use this particular application of Kamui after becoming the Ten Tails Jinchuriki, which is noted in a pop-in to be possibly related to how his body is now immune to ninjutsu-related techniques. He uses this power defensively to phase through Vader's attacks, as well as pretend to have been killed to catch his opponent off-guard, but eventually Vader catches on and uses the Force to throw him around before just crushing his eye altogther.
  • I Will Show You X!: He uses a variant after he senses that Vader has lost his humanity like he has.
Darth Vader: On the path of the Dark Side, it is inevitable.
Obito: (finishes transforming into the Ten Tails Jinchuriki) No... This is inevitable!
  • Let Them Die Happy: After sympathizing with Vader, he decides to trap him in the Infinite Tsukuyomi with a vision of Vader as Anakin again and being with his late wife Padmé before killing him, but not without giving him some reassuring parting words:
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: He uses the Infinite Tsukuyomi to put Vader in an illusion that he is Anakin Skywalker again and reunited with his wife Padmé, distracting him long enough to kill him.
  • Magical Eye: Obito has his Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan — which possesses the ability to cast powerful illusions, hypnotize others, a degree of Combat Precognition, and the unique power of short-range Kamui, letting him teleport, turn intangible, fire weapons out of his eye, and suck opponents he touches into a pocket dimension — as well as one of Madara Uchiha's Rinnegan, which comes with a bevy of powerful abilities. In the fight, Vader shows up intending to claim Obito's eyes for himself, though Obito makes it clear he's not going down without a fight, and while the Sharingan eye does get crushed by Vader, it recovers after Obito absorbs the Ten-Tails.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: After he damages Vader's cybernetic leg, Obito notes that he, too, has lost his humanity. His recognition of Vader's ordeal may be part of why he decided to let him die happy at the end.
Obito: You've... lost your humanity, as well.
Darth Vader: On the path of the Dark Side, it is inevitable.
  • Playing with Fire: Uchiha tend to have an affinity for fire jutsu and Obito is no exception, summoning a pillar of flames that Vader casually strolls through.
  • The Power of Hate: The Mangekyō Sharingan is supposedly born from both this and The Power of Love, namely that Uchihas are seemingly incredibly devoted to love, and if someone powerful were to lose someone they were devoted to, this love would be replaced by an all-consuming hatred. Madara got Obito to awaken his by making him watch Kakashi kill Rin.
  • The Power of Love: Uchihas tend to be incredibly devoted to love, and Obito is no exception. His love for Rin was corrupted into hatred when Kakashi killed her.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: He briefly shocks Vader by taking on his late wife Padmé's form before trying to suck him into the Kamui dimension. That simply prompts a resisting Vader to destroy his eye.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: The Truth-Seeking Orbs are formed from the Yin-Yang Release and can be reshaped into any more Obito desires, such as a staff, shields, arms, and even a BFS.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Using his Rinnegan, Obito is able to manifest black rods of condensed chakra that he can fire as projectiles and wield as melee weapons, though Vader deflects them with his lightsaber without issue.
  • Summon Magic: Obito is capable of summoning the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox and — with his Rinnegan — the Ten-Tailed Beast, summoning the latter in an attempt to annihilate Vader with a mountain-shattering Tailed Beast Bomb and, once that fails, absorbing it to summon the God Tree and become its Jinchuriki.
  • Super-Reflexes: It's noted that Obito has repeatedly kept up with the likes of Nine-Tails Chakra Mode Naruto, who after his various training and power-ups can outspeed lightspeed-timing ninja like the Fourth Raikage. It was judged he and Vader were about even here.
  • The Unfettered: As noted by Boomstick, Obito wanted the Ten Tails' power for himself and was willing to throw hands with anyone he had to get it, including kick-starting the Fourth Great Ninja War.
  • Victory by Endurance: Essentially Obito's major advantage. Between their roughly even speeds and destructive power, Obito's Kamui intangibility (though Vader could reliably counter this) in his regular form and the Ten Tails Jinchuriki's overpowered Healing Factor coupled with near-inexhaustible chakra supply once transformed could keep up against Vader's attacks and bounce back much better than Vader. Vader meanwhile at most could just power through damage with the Force but couldn't outright regrow any parts lost and would eventually be worn down, especially if his life support was destroyed.
  • Villainous Breakdown: A minor one, but after getting his Mangekyō Sharingan eye crushed by Vader, Obito loses his cool for the first time and proceeds to angrily pummel Vader with a flurry of punches and kicks, only to get a lightsaber through the chest for his troubles. He calms down after this.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: For all of Obito's many crimes, he does wish to make everyone in the world happy, though his method of doing that is casting everyone into an endless dream as he's lost faith that the harsh reality of the ninja world would ever allow that to happen otherwise. In his battle with Vader, Obito actually empathizes with his enemy's lost humanity for a brief moment and is one of the few Death Battle winners to give his opponent some measure of peace in death.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Surprise, surprise, Obito's Gunbai failed to block Vader's lightsaber and ended up getting cut in two. Not that it bothered the Uchiha much.
  • You Are Too Late: As Vader's choking him out and tells him to die, Obito smirks and says "Too late...", as the Infinite Tsukuyomi is activating, trapping Vader and leaving him helpless to Obito's own killing blow.
  • Your Heart's Desire: The Infinite Tsukuyomi can trap its victims in a never-ending dream of their hearts desire. He uses this to make Darth Vader's Lost Lenore Padmé appear before him, leaving him wide open to being killed.

    Phoenix VS Raven
  • Animal Battle Aura: As the host of the Phoenix, Jean is capable of wreathing herself in an aura of cosmic flames, while Raven can manifest her demonic soul as a raven made of living darkness, which she can control at will..
  • Animal Motifs: The names imply an obvious connection to different birds. Phoenix though is more of mythical motif.
  • Foil: Apocalyptic avian-themed maidens they are, identical not so much. The matchup follows the yin-yang contrast of mind vs emotion, fire vs darkness, and embracing one’s own "demon" vs containing it.
  • The Power of Friendship: Given that both superheroines are bound to a destructive deity that wants to end the universe and all life in it, it's no surprise that holds a lot of baggage for them. Thankfully, Jean has the X-Men by her side, and for Raven, the Teen Titans, to help them keep it under control.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Both of them have these, which massively boost their power but also makes them far less restrained in using it.
    • The Phoenix serves as one for its hosts if its destructive impulses are roused. In Jean's case — later retconned to be the Phoenix itself impersonating her — sporting glowing red eyes and a red costume rather than the usual green — and it embarks on a planet-razing rampage.
    • Dark Raven is what happens when Raven is overtaken by her father Trigon's influence, gaining red skin and his multiple eyes while sadistically destroying anything in her way.

Phoenix (Jean Grey)

Phoenix: "The demon inside you is too strong to be left alive. I'm sorry, this is for the good of the universe."
Voiced by: Corey Pettit

The Marvelous Phoenix of the X-Men
  • Animalistic Abomination: The Phoenix Force is a primordial cosmic entity that is essentially a sentient bird of prey-shaped star, embodying both creation and destruction... but mostly destruction. After taking on Jean's form and memories, it was corrupted into the Dark Phoenix and casually obliterated a planet.
  • Apologetic Attacker: Before she attacks Raven, she apologizes and says she has no real issue with her, she just thinks that her demon self is too strong to be left alive.
  • Atrocious Alias: Boomstick does not appreciate her original hero name, Marvel Girl.
  • Death Is Cheap: Boomstick notes that Jean has died no less than 15 times over the course of her history in the comics and expresses no surprise at the idea she'll die again in them very soon (which a pop-up notes actually happened after the line was recorded, making it 16 deaths on record). By the end of the fight she goes through her 17th death thanks to Raven.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Briefly creates multiple copies of herself as the Dark Phoenix and unleashes a host of flames on Dark Raven, who barely blocks it and needs to telekinetically control a nearby asteroid to smash the copies to relieve the pressure.
  • Evil Laugh: Jean lets out one of these when she turns into the Dark Phoenix, which neatly lines up with her initial Death Cry Echo morphing into this after being sliced in half.
  • Half the Woman She Used to Be: Gets sliced in two by Dark Raven midway through the fight, but this only causes the Phoenix Force to reattatch her halves and turn her into the Dark Phoenix.
  • Has a Type: A non-romantic case for the Phoenix Force, which Boomstick points out has a preference for having redheaded women as its hosts such as Jean, Cable's Distaff Counterpart, Rachel, Cable's adopted daughter, Hope, and in the episode for a gag, Jocelyn.
  • Healing Factor: Whether through the Phoenix's power or her own, Jean has managed to regenerate damage up to and including the destruction of her whole body. However, soul destruction is a level of damage even the Phoenix itself admitted it couldn't fix, and this proves to be her undoing when Raven, who can do it, pulls it off on her and the Phoenix.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: During the fight animation, Raven in her soul form drains the Dark Phoenix's energy to empower herself, which gives her the final edge when Jean unleashes her final form and drags them both to the White Hot Room for the final showdown.
  • Knight Templar: By the time Jean reaches White Phoenix, she's in over her head and tries to get Raven killed in the White Hot Room, calling upon her friends to give her strength. It's this remark that sets Raven off, telling her that she's a child of Azarath rather than Trigon's child, and doesn't deserve to be vilified for it.
  • Neck Lift: After breaking Dark Raven's sword, the Dark Phoenix hoists her into the air by the neck.
  • No Body Left Behind: Raven disintegrates both her and the Phoenix, then snuffs out their souls.
  • Playing with Fire: As the host of the Phoenix, Jean can channel the cosmic entity's flames — which are powerful enough to burn stars and raze planets to oblivion if fully unleashed.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Shouts one as she sets Dark Raven aflame until she's nothing but a burnt husk. Luckily for Raven, her soul could keep up the fight.
    Dark Phoenix: BURN!
  • Psychic Powers: Jean is capable of telepathy, telekinesis, astral projection, flight, and firing bolts of psionic energy. Hosting the Phoenix Force dials her inherit powers up to eleven and adds cosmic pyrokinesis on top of that.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Fitting for the phoenix symbolism, the Phoenix Force as an avatar of creation and destruction will always be reborn no matter how badly it's damaged, and Jean as its preferred host shares a similar level of revival. However, the point is made that while the Phoenix has regenerated Jean's body from even total erasure, her soul is another matter and spiritual damage is something it can't easily fix on its own, which is a big problem when Raven has multiple ways to destroy Jean's soul. And even the Phoenix's own superior revival ability, which could theoretically return from soul destruction and complete eradication, takes much longer than Raven's Soul-Self under the same conditions.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: It's made note of that Jean has a tendency of dying over and over again, only to be reborn. At the time the episode was recorded, she had died a total of 15 times, but during the editing process, she ended up dying a 16th time.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: When Jean was 10, witnessing her best friend Annie get hit by a car awakened her psychic powers, which particularly sucked for poor Jean as her mind was connected to Annie's as she died.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Jean is out to protect the universe from Raven’s demon side by killing her, and is openly remorseful about it. She winds up picking the wrong fight, as Raven is more than she can handle in the end.

Raven (Rachel Roth)

Raven: "Come to burn my home to ashes?"
Voiced by: Kira Buckland

The Azarathian Demon Witch of the Teen Titans
  • Apocalypse Maiden: Raven was sired by her father, the demon Trigon, in order to act as the key to freeing him from his imprisonment and conquering/destroying the universe.
  • Art Evolution: Raven's Soul Self looks significantly better compared to its last appearance, no longer looking like it was quickly made in Microsoft Paint.
  • Broken Win/Loss Streak: Broke a streak of three consecutive losses for DC after her win over Jean, with DC's last victor being Zatanna over a year prior.
  • The Bus Came Back: Raven returns from her Season 5 victory over Twilight Sparkle, and adds a second notch to her belt in Jean Grey.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: With her full unrestrained potential, Raven has defeated her own father Trigon the Terrible, who Boomstick notes is one of the most powerful entities in the DC universe, and has gone up against the Spectre on equal grounds when his power was unrestricted. And in the fight itself, she defeats the Phoenix, Marvel's primordial cosmic entity of creation and destruction.
  • The Empath: Outright called as such by Wiz, with Raven's powers allowing her to sense emotions across the universe and mold them to her whim to the point of allowing Mind Control, sensing other's presences, absorbing and redirecting pain, stealing energy, Telepathy, manipulating and erasing memories, or just shutting off minds to put people to sleep.
  • Energy Absorption: One of her most useful powers. During the fight animation, her soul form drains the Dark Phoenix of energy for a power-up.
  • The Fettered: As Raven's emotions are so tied to her powers, and any sufficiently-powerful emotion could in theory allow Trigon to break loose, she was trained from a young age to control her emotions no matter what. Boomstick rather disparagingly refers to it as "the Prequel Trilogy's School of Psychotherapy".
  • Have You Come to Gloat?: As soon as Jean arrives on Azarath and sees Raven by her lonesome, Raven asks her if she's come to incinerate her home.
  • Kill It with Fire: Dark Raven is reduced to a blackened husk by the Dark Phoenix's power. However, as Raven has survived the complete destruction of her body before, her soul simply emerges from the husk and keeps fighting.
  • Ring of Power: The Rings of Azar are twin relics which Raven used to channel the spirits of Azarath into her Soul Self in order to obtain the power necessary to destroy Trigon's soul. Her Soul Self quickly nabs them from her own charred corpse for the final showdown with Jean.
  • Time Stands Still: Dark Raven freezes time in order to get the opening to slice Jean in half. Unfortunately for her, this just causes the Dark Phoenix to take control and land a beatdown.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Compared to her last appearance five seasons ago, Raven is significantly more powerful here thanks to gaining a wider array of abilities and arsenal after a further exploration into her powers. Meta-wise, she was actually considered weaker than Jean, hence why her opponent ended up being Twilight Sparkle; further exploration into Raven's powers revealed that she was on the same level as Jean, and even had the means to end the fight in her favor.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: Foes trying to possess Raven have often found the possessions turned back on them before she drains their energy or even their souls. It's pointed out that this would likely be the result if the Phoenix attempted to possess Raven to end the fight.
  • Vocal Evolution: Her voice is noticeably higher pitched this time compared to her earlier fight with Twilight Sparkle, much more akin to her voice in Teen Titans (2003). This may have been due to the fact that Kira Buckland didn't need to voice both combatants this time, giving her more freedom with voicing Raven.
  • Victory by Endurance: The major factor in her victory; while Raven and Jean have similar showings of power and abilities, even up to the ability to rend minds and absorb energy and souls, only Raven has shown the ability to outright regenerate her soul from total destruction and in a timely manner, while Jean was unable to do the same and the Phoenix Force would take much longer to regenerate from such damage.
  • Willfully Weak: The host note in the end that although it's incredibly surprising to see Raven stack up evenly with Phoenix, despite the latter holding a much more powerful reputation, it's only because Raven holds back her punches and for good reason, as the constant use of them will only make Trigon's influence better. With no restraints, Raven could match her Father, Trigon, and in the end, match and surpass Phoenix as well. In hindsight, her battle with Twilight Sparkle could have ended much quicker had she stopped holding back sooner.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Once Jean goes Dark Phoenix, she grabs and shatters Raven's sword with her gloved hand.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: Raven can tear out and destroy people's souls, even pulling it against opponents who at the time were trying to possess her. As soul destruction was one of the few things Jean couldn't regenerate from, it proved to be a cincher in the fight.

    Guts VS Dimitri
  • Blood Knight: When their not-inconsiderable anger issues are triggered, both Guts and Dimitri have been known to go on bloody One-Man Army rampages while sporting Slasher Smiles.
  • Broken Ace: Both Guts and Dimitri are incredibly powerful and skilled warriors... who have also gone through hell and became obsessed with revenge against their enemies, to the point of being willing to do almost anything to obtain it.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Both are clad in black armor and, violent and vengeful as they may be, are ultimately good people who have been though a lot. Part of both of their Character Development is about bringing the "not evil" part of the equation back to the forefront.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Both men's quests for revenge were instigated by a major personal betrayal:
    • Guts was betrayed by his former friend Griffith, who sacrificed their mercenary comrades to become a demon and then raped Guts' love interest Casca right in front of him while having Guts' eye gouged out.
    • Dimitri was betrayed by his stepsister and childhood friend Edelgard, who conquered half his kingdom and was circumstantially implicated in a massacre that got his father and many of his retainers killed (even though it eventually turned out she was innocent of that particular crime).
  • Eye Scream: Both of them lose their eye at some point in their stories.note
  • Hearing Voices: Both of them are prone to hearing voices ringing in their heads under stressful situations:
    • Guts hears the Beast of Darkness, his Superpowered Evil Side, telling him to give in to his bloodlust and unleash it upon his foes.
    • Upon seeing Edelgard is the Flame Emperor, Dimitri begins having auditory hallucinations of his deceased family members and comrades crying out for him to avenge them. The only thing that assuages this is spilling the blood of his enemies, so Dimitri becomes a One-Man Army berserker who gleefully slaughters his enemies. In the battle, being injured and surrounded by flames sledgehammers Dimitri's Trauma Button and causes him to go berserk.
  • Implacable Man: Throughout the fight, both of them take several hits that should realistically have killed them right there and then. Yet they shrug it off and keep fighting at full strength until only one remains.
  • Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: This was ultimately the deciding factor in the battle. Both Guts and Dimitri are impressive physical powerhouses possessing excellent combat prowess. However, Dimitri also has access to numerous magical spells that grant him more versatility in battle and give him more options to fall back on besides melee combat.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Both men are known for their utter hatred of their former friend turned bitter enemy (Griffith for Guts, Edelgard for Dimitri).
    • After his comrade and lover Casca was raped by the apotheosized Griffith and the other members of the Band of the Hawk were devoured by Apostles, Guts swore revenge and began using his considerable combat prowess to hunt down and kill every Apostle he could find.
    • Finding out his one-time Childhood Friend Romance Edelgard von Hresvelg was the Flame Emperor and collaborating with the forces responsible for the Tragedy of Duscur caused Dimitri to snap and — at least in some routes — become a one-man army hellbent on wiping the Adrestian Empire off the map.
    • Interestingly, it's implied through the animation's dialogue that Dimitri is fighting Guts to avenge the many men who've fallen by his sword.
Dimitri: One hundred men strong... What drives your slaughter?
Dimitri: I will tear your head from your shoulders! The dead must have their reven-
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Contrasting to their blue and red motif in the actual designs (but true to their white and black), Guts is much more quiet than his chatty opponent Dimitri.
  • Strong and Skilled:
  • Super-Reflexes:
    • Guts is fast enough to hit an Apostle moving at supersonic speeds and keep pace with his companion Serpico in fights, who's dodged lightning at Mach 146. This made him the faster of the two combatants, but it wasn't enough against Dimitri's other advantages.
    • Dimitri meanwhile is fast enough to dodge meteors traveling at Mach 66. While this was slower than Guts' scaled lightning feat, Dimitri had several tools such as Seal Movement and Swordbreaker that could close this speed gap.
  • Super-Strength:
    • Guts is strong enough to easily swing around the Dragonslayer (a 300 lb slab of iron in the form of a BFS) and slice through corundum, which is the second-hardest mineral in nature after diamond and tougher than steel. With the Berserker Armor pushing him past his limits, he's even stronger than that, and even manages to break Areadbhar, which is made of dragon bone that's tougher than steel itself, in the fight animation. Unfortunately for Guts, even his strength was nothing to what Dimitri could likely bring to the table.
    • Thanks to his Crest, a mystical power passed through his bloodline that ties back to the Goddess Sothis, Dimitri possesses supernatural strength that allows him to do things like lift boulders and break swords when he was only nine years old and had the slight build to match, and he only got stronger from there. As an adult, he's taken down an entire squad of armed soldiers with a single spear throw, and he scales directly to Edelgard, who can defeat the Archbishop Rhea in her dragon form that could survive two Fantastic Nukes to the face, each of which was generously calculated to be worth 3.27 gigatons of TNT. He's judged to be both far stronger than Guts as well as more than strong enough to overwhelm even the Black Swordsman's legendary toughness.
  • Super-Toughness:
    • Guts has endured attacks that would kill a normal person many times over, be they regular man-made weapons or the demonic force of the Apostles. He's even survived being attacked by the Sea God, an Eldritch Abomination that could produce a storm covering an island at 687 kilotons of TNT by shouting. However, the type of foes Dimitri could scale against trumped even this showing.
    • Dimitri has taken direct magical blasts from Thales, a mage whose power could shake an entire underground city, and all but walked straight through them all. In the fight itself, he takes both several of Guts' bombs attaching to his chest armor and a point-blank shot from Guts' Arm Cannon, and all it does is destroy his cape and knock him down for a few seconds. Really, the worst of it was the mental damage of seeing all the fire in the aftermath reminding him of the Tragedy of Duscur.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Both men are defined by the immense trauma they've endured throughout their lives.
  • Warrior vs. Sorcerer: Of the Simple Warrior vs Magic Knight variety. Both rely on their strength and fighting skills but only Dimitri is trained in magic.
  • Weapon Specialization:
    • Guts was trained to wield greatswords since he was a child, with his signature Dragonslayer being a six-foot long slab of iron specifically forged to destroy huge dragons.
    • Dimitri is a Multi-Melee Master but specializes in polearms, with his signature weapon being the divine glaive Areadbhar, a Hero's Relic crafted from dragon bones and synchronized with the Crest of Blaiddyd.

Guts

Guts: "Tch, save the high and mighty crap 'til you're dead..."
Voiced by: Xander Mobus

The Brutal Black Swordsman of Berserk
  • Abusive Parents: His adoptive father Gambino, in Boomstick's words, "definitely isn't winning father of the year". He put the young Guts through brutal training with swords bigger than him and sent him on the battlefield at the age of nine. Oh, and one panel early in the rundown references him being raped by one of the soldiers of his father's band he got sold to for a night. Needless to say, Guts had every right to kill Gambino in self-defense.
  • Actor Allusion: Xander Mobus happens to be the official English voice actor for Arvis, a villain from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War who's one of the inspirations behind Edelgard, Dimitri's Arch-Enemy.
  • Adaptive Armor: The Berserker Armor is a cursed suit of dwarf-forged armor that lets them withstand fatal injuries and fight beyond human limits at a terrible cost: 1) it doesn't grant its wearer superhuman powers so much as it shuts off the mental limits, tearing their muscles and bones apart and stitching them back together by piercing their body with metal spikes; and 2) it draws out and takes the shape of its wearer's inner demons — in Guts' case the Beast of Darkness. When the Beast of Darkness awakens, the Berserker Armor fully encases Guts like a symbiote — its helmet even capable of acting as a set of fanged jaws — and he becomes a rampaging monster.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Desperate to stop Griffith/Femto from raping Casca, Guts chopped off his own left forearm to escape the Apostle chewing on it. After the Skull Knight bailed him and Casca out, Guts had a weaponized prosthetic built to replace it.
  • Arm Cannon: Guts' left hand has a powerful single-shot cannon as well as a repeat-firing crossbow mounted on it. Unfortunately for him, the arrows fail to phase Dimitri at all as he blocks or dodges them, and the cannon coupled with several bombs just knocks Dimitri down and push his Trauma Button from all the fire.
  • Artifact of Doom: His Berserker Armor, which increases his strength and pain tolerance at the cost of slowly killing him and sending him into an Unstoppable Rage whenever he fights for too long. Unfortunately, Dimitri's skills like Atrocity made the very reason of wearing it moot as it does effective damage to most foes. It's also what ends up doing in Guts at the end as it absorbs the last of his blood.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Dimitri delivers the final blow, it seems that he's the winner before Guts grabs his sword and attempts to finish him off before he ends up stopping midswing and dying on his feet.
  • Blank White Eyes: Guts' one remaining eye glazes over to white when he dies standing and mid-swing.
  • BFS: Guts' primary weapon is the Dragonslayer, a blade that — as its name suggests — was forged to slay dragons. Too big to be called a sword and too heavy to be lifted by any man, it can best be described as a big slab of iron on a hilt that's at least the size of an ironing board. Boomstick calls it his "bread and blooder" and even he can barely raise it.
  • Born from a Dead Woman: Guts came into the world slipping out of his dead mother's body after she was hanged... and that was only the very first of several lifetimes' worth of horrors he'd go through.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Guts has fought all matter of demons and evil spirits on a daily basis, and even from his very birth, has endured several lifetimes' worth of bloodshed and pain. However, not even the strongest ones he fought matched the foes Dimitri has previously defeated.
  • The Bus Came Back: This is Guts' first appearance in Death Battle! since Season 2, where his fight against Nightmare occurred. Sadly, he wasn't able to win this time around.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Thanks to Gambino forcing him to use swords larger than him at an early age, Guts gained tremendous strength, to the point where he could lift and wield Dragonslayer without issue when no one else could.
  • Child Soldiers: Guts had his first combat experience when he was 9 years old.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: His backstory is so dark Boomstick had to warn the viewers beforehand. To start, he was born from his mother's recently hanged corpse and was put through Training from Hell as a child. After killing his abusive foster-father in self-defense and wandering alone as a mercenary for years, things started looking up when he befriended Griffith, joined the Band of the Hawk, and even played a huge role in stopping a hundred-year-long war. And then the Eclipse happened, where Griffith, now Femto of the God Hand, summoned demons who killed most of the Band of the Hawk, marked Guts with the Brand of Sacrifice, raped Casca in which Guts was forced to watch while his eye was being split open, and had to cut off his own arm when an Apostle clamped down on it.
  • Demon Slaying: After the Eclipse, Guts swore revenge on Griffith/Femto and vowed to avenge the Band of the Hawk by hunting down and killing all the Apostles — the formerly-human demons who serve the God-Hand. However, not even the demons he faced were on the level of beasts like the Immaculate One and the Hegemon Husk, who could tank hits from what were essentially magic ballistic missiles, and as such, he would not be on the level of comparable characters, like Edelgard or, indeed, Dimitri.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: Defied. This is what is supposed to happen when Guts dies due to his Brand of Sacrifice but Dimitri steps in when the God Hand comes to collect.
  • Forced to Watch: During the Eclipse, he was pinned down by demons and made to watch as Griffith, rechristened as Femto, raped Casca in front of him.
  • Fragile Speedster: Shockingly in this match up, he was slightly faster than Dimitri who is a Mighty Glacier in comparison. Though this didn't matter as skills like Seal Movement and Swordbreaker closed the gap in speed.
  • Logical Weakness: The hosts noted that Dimitri had a significant advantage over Guts in one fairly mundane way: Guts' metal sword and armor conduct electricity, making him vulnerable to Dimitri's thunder magic. They even noted that Guts, while not incapable of defeating foes with electric attacks, had backup to defeat them.
  • Made of Iron: Guts is incredibly tough, as losing an eye and arm didn't stop him in canon. This is shown further during the fight, as he takes being impaled by Areadbhar, icicles from Frozen Lance, and finally Dimitri's Atrocity. When he makes his final attempt on Dimitri's life, the Berserker Armor finally kills him — a combination of Guts' blood being completely drained out and the injuries sustained.
  • One-Man Army: Guts' combat prowess is such that even before the Eclipse marked him with the Brand of Sacrifice he was able to kill 100 enemy soldiers in a single battle.
  • Power Echoes: Once the Berserker Armor awakens, Guts' voice becomes distorted and echoic.
  • Rage Helm: When he dons the Berserker Armor, Guts' head becomes enclosed in a snarling wolf's visage that fits his new savagery. Dimitri shatters it in their clash, only to reveal Guts' own rage-filled face is just as bloodthirsty.
  • Roar Before Beating: Once the Berserker Armor activates in the fight, Guts unleashes a roar that would fit a monster more than a man before charging at Dimitri.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: The Beast of Darkness, a wolf-like entity born from Guts' rage and hatred, can take over his body through the Berserker Armor, turning him into a feral beast of a berserker capable of inhuman feats of strength and speed... at the cost of tearing Guts' body apart to do so.
  • Worthy Opponent: Dimitri posthumously finds a kindred spirit in him and vows to slaughter the demons who have come to take his soul to hell so that Guts can rest in peace.

The Savage Savior-King From Fire Emblem
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: With Areadbhar, Dimitri can use the Combat Art Atrocity, which among other things, is capable of piercing armour. This is a major contributor to his victory, as it effectively removed half of the benefit provided by Gut's Berserker Armour.
  • Composite Character: Discussed by Wiz, who notes that depending on the timeline what happens to Dimitri and what he does is very different. Outside of that, his feats and various abilities are drawn from both Three Houses and the Alternate Timeline in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, such as channeling lightning directly through his weapons.
  • Defiant to the End: Subverted, though not for lack of trying on Dimitri's part. When Guts' final assault manages to slice through the shaft of Areadbhar and knocks Dimitri to the ground, the King of Faerghus scrambles to grab the glaive's head and bring it up in a final effort to defend himself from Guts' finishing blow rather than just die helpless, only to find Guts has already expired.
  • Due to the Dead: After Guts' death and seeing the God Hand coming for him, Dimitri realizes that Guts was like him in that they were both haunted by demons. This makes Dimitri resolve to defend Guts' soul from them, ending the fight by viciously charging them to defend his fallen foe.
Dimitri: So we're both shackled to the dead. (turns to the God Hand) You foul beasts... YOU WILL NOT HAVE HIS SOUL! (laughs psychotically as he pursues them)
  • An Ice Person: One of the combat arts Dimitri can learn is Frozen Lance, which enchants the user's lance with magic and skewers enemies with ice. This was used against Guts and impaled him, but he survived it.
  • Laughing Mad: Normally the picture of humble and chivalrous nobility, Dimitri is known to break into maniacal laughter and Slasher Smiles when someone or something triggers his repressed dark side. After Guts dies and the God Hand comes for his soul, Dimitri laughs like a maniac as he attacks them to defend his fallen foe.
  • Legendary Weapon: Dimitri's main weapon is the legendary Ancestral Weapon of the Blaiddyd family, the Hero's Relic glaive known as Areadbhar, which he wields during the fight.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: While he's given a few of his learnable spells, the hosts note that magic isn't exactly Dimitri's specialty. Still, it turns out Thunder gives him a reliable source of damage, due to Guts's metal armaments.
  • Magic Knight: In addition to his skill with weaponry, Dimitri has also been trained in magic, though his proficiency in it is somewhat limited. Still, he's skilled enough to know the basic Heal as well as channel electricity in various ways.
  • Mighty Glacier: He's this in comparison to Guts, who's no delicate flower himself. While the hosts judge Guts to be noticeably faster than Dimitri, Dimitri is shown to be over 4000 times stronger than Guts due to being able to fight on the level of Rhea, who tanked a bunch of Fantastic Nukes.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: At his full power, Dimitri has proven he can scale to, stand against and defeat some of the most powerful beings in his universe, including those who can survive being hit by magic ballistic missiles. For comparison's sake and using some generous estimates by potentially lowballing them and inflating the best Guts could match, each one of these missiles could have a payload equivalent to 3.27 gigatons of TNT, over 4000 times more potent than the strongest attacks Guts has survived.
  • Shock and Awe: Dimitri's elemental magic proficiency is tied to lightning, which he can call down in bolts to strike opponents or channel through his physical strikes and weaponry to boost their power. This proved to be useful against Guts, whose armor and Dragon Slayer can conduct electricity.
  • Super Mode: He can enter his Awakening mode from Three Hopes to provide an extra boost to his powers, which he does to combat the Berserker Armor.
  • Take Up My Sword: After realizing that Guts was being chased by his own demons and having come to respect him, Dimitri replaces Guts as the God Hand's main opposition by charging their forces when they come to collect his soul.
  • Trauma Button: Dimitri is usually the definition of a chivalrous prince and knight... right up until someone or something related to the Tragedy of Duscur is brought up. And if the aforementioned something or someone happens to have had a role in it? Well... In the fight, two of his buttons get pressed: being struck in the shoulder by a throwing knife, reminding him of Edelgard doing the same thing, and the arena being lit on fire, which takes him back to the Tragedy of Duscur; each of these lead to increasing Sanity Slippage, leaving him Ax-Crazy and Laughing Mad.
  • Worthy Opponent: By the end of the fight, Dimitri is impressed by Guts' power and tenacity to the point where he's not only amazed that the Black Swordsman died on his feet right as he was about to kill him, but also turns on the God Hand to protect his adversary's soul from being taken.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Guts's last-ditch attack snaps Areadbhar clean in two. This doesn't stop Dimitri from picking up the spearhead first to try and defend himself and then to defeat his fallen foe's demons, however.

    Martian Manhunter VS Silver Surfer
  • Alliterative Name: Martian Manhunter and Silver Surfer. For bonus points, Manhunter's real name is J'onn J'onzz.
  • Bald Head of Toughness: They're both bald and some of the physically strongest heroes of their respective universes.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Both are renowned for their massive repertoire of assorted superpowers.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Both of these alien heroes have some very dark and tragic backstories.
    • The Martian race once shared a Hive Mind, but Martian Manhunter was forced to sever his connection to it in order to survive a Mind Virus that was devastating his race. He had to watch his family, along with his entire race, succumb to it, then lived alone in his ruined homeworld, using his shapeshifting to turn himself into company in an attempt at coping with the solitude and grief. Said grief was so strong that, combined with his telepathic powers, it blocked the souls of Martiankind from moving on to the afterlife for hundreds of years until he finally managed to let go.
    • Silver Surfer lived on the utopic planet of Zenn-La, but was forced to leave it behind in order to become the Herald of Galactus, which was the only way the Devourer of Worlds would spare his people (a sacrifice which ends up being All for Nothing, as Zenn-La would be eventually be destroyed anyway). During his time as a Herald, Norrin tried to only guide Galactus to uninhabited planets, but one day accidentally led him to the home of a civilized race, which was annihilated as a result. His guilt at this was so great that he asked his master to erase his memories and emotions, though a spark of the Silver Surfer's benevolent nature survived and eventually resurfaced.
  • Flying Brick: Both can traverse space at impossible speeds, be it traditional flight or riding a board, and are some of the physically strongest heroes of their respective universes.
  • From a Single Cell: Both of their healing factors make them nigh impossible to kill unless every atom in their bodies is destroyed. As it turns out, only the Surfer had the means to accomplish this feat thanks to the Power Cosmic being practically infinite.
  • Genius Bruiser: Both have their own feats of great strength and intellect. Manhunter spent a good amount of time on Earth as a detective and is one of the smartest members of the Justice League, and Surfer originates from a technologically advanced utopia and was raised to be a scientist.
  • Humanoid Aliens: Both are alien heroes who look just different enough from a human to make their origins clear; J'onn J'onzz has green skin and red eyes, whereas the Surfer is silver from head to toe.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Both the Silver Surfer and Martian Manhunter's cosmic awareness lead them to question why they're fighting to the death, sensing something is compelling them to do so and wondering what its purpose is.

DC's Space Ranger
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Easily recognizable by his green complexion.
  • Energy Absorption: One of his more devastating powers, but it's noted in the post-analysis that even if J'onn managed to drain the Power Cosmic from Norrin, the Surfer would be able to replenish it nigh-instantly on his own.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Even as the Surfer is tearing his atoms apart into nothingness, he calmly leaves him with some parting words.
J'onn: I hope you can live with the uncertainty...
  • From a Single Cell: He can regenerate when even if all that's left of him is a single limb or reduced to a liquid state. The hosts note that while both characters have absurd healing factors, the Surfer — via the Power Cosmic — has the tools needed to ensure the Manhunter has nothing left to come back from.
  • Hugh Mann: A variant. J'onn was able to pass by as a human by taking up the identity of a fallen detective named... John Jones. Even Boomstick is unimpressed at this.
  • Mind over Matter: He's estimated to be one of DC's most powerful telepaths, and certainly stronger than the Surfer in this department, allowing Manhunter to distort the Surfer's senses for a time. That said, this alone wouldn't be enough to win.
  • No Body Left Behind: Silver Surfer destroys him completely with a supernova. Justified, as J'onn can survive anything from lost limbs to being liquified, the only way the Silver Surfer could win is if he destroyed him down to the last atom — something the Power Cosmic would certainly be capable of accomplishing.
  • Scaled Up: He transforms into a massive dragon to fight Norrin and goes so far as to slice a planet apart with his claws.
  • Shapeshifting: One of his main powers is transforming into anyone and anything. Examples shown include being able to turn into a perfect replica of Wonder Woman, a dragon (which he uses in the fight itself), or a Hulk Expy.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Although the Martian Manhunter is a being of unimaginable power, he has a mundane weakness to fire, which still hurts him despite his durability otherwise being through the roof. Said weakness, which was implanted into the Martian race by the Guardians of the Universe to limit their power, is actually psychological, so he may occasionally be able to power through it through sheer force of will. During the fight, J'onn is forced into the sun, which does initially seem to hurt him greatly before he shuts the pain out; however, the Surfer counters this by using the Power Cosmic to force the Manhunter into feeling this pain.

Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd)

Silver Surfer: "You and I possess the same knowledge. That only one of us can survive, and we know not why."

Marvel's Sentinel of the Spaceways
  • Agony Beam: One of the Silver Surfer's powers is described by Boomstick as being able to "force you to just feel pain in general." When the Martian Manhunter fights off his psychosomatic weakness to fire to survive being thrown into a star, this lets the Silver Surfer chip away at his willpower.
  • All for Nothing: Norrin Radd made a huge sacrifice in becoming Galactus's herald in order to save Zenn-La, losing his normal life and having to suffer plenty of guilt in summoning Galactus to planets with life. Zenn-La was, and has been four times now, destroyed — as brought up in the episode.
  • Awesome McCoolname: Boomstick finds Norrin Radd's name to be the "sickest, most radical name" he's ever heard. His alias, the Silver Surfer, is described as "an equally tubular name".
  • Brought Down to Normal:
    • It's brought up in his analysis by Boomstick that Galactus could have yanked back the Power Cosmic at any point from the Surfer if he really wanted, especially after Norrin decided to go rogue and turn against him to save Earth, but Wiz explains that Galactus's respect for his first Herald is such that he allows it.
    • It's brought up in the post-analysis that J'onn could have attempted to drain the Surfer's energy and inflict this fate for the win, but even assuming Manhunter could indeed drain it all away at once, anyone aside from Galactus or very specific tailor-made power-stealing methods trying this on the Surfer would only temporarily stop him before he automatically replenishes the Power Cosmic.
  • Chrome Champion: If the name wasn't indicative, he's covered from head to toe in silver.
  • Deity of Human Origin: Or of extraterrestrial origin, at least. The Silver Surfer was once a mortal inhabitant of Zenn-La, but made a pact with the cosmic entity Galactus to become his Herald in exchange for his planet being spared. Imbued with the Power Cosmic, the Silver Surfer possesses all of Galactus' nigh-omnipotent powers on a lesser scale.
  • Elemental Powers: He has control over "the elements" in a very broad sense; this lets him manipulate not only things like earth and fire, but also gravity, the weather and practically anything else. During the fight, he's able to encase Martian Manhunter in ice after the latter turns into a planet-size dragon.
  • Morph Weapon: The Silver Surfer's surfboard can shapeshift, including turning into a sword.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: For the first century of his servitude, the Silver Surfer only summoned Galactus to uninhabited planets. However, after accidentally summoning him to a planet with a sapient civilization, he was overcome with guilt and had Galactus repress his memories and conscience — leading to numerous other populated planets being sacrificed — until the Fantastic Four managed to reawaken his true self in time to save Earth. He's similarly left with overwhelming guilt upon killing the Manhunter, after neither side can determine why they have to fight to the death despite all evidence to the contrary.
  • See the Invisible: One of the advantages provided by his Super-Senses is that he can see through invisibility, negating one of Martian Manhunter's powers.
  • Sky Surfing: The Silver Surfer's board is an extension of his being and serves as his mode of transportation, letting him fly through space and air at hypersonic speeds.
  • Super Prototype: As Galactus's first Herald, Norrin possesses more abilities than any that have come after him, partly because Galactus was still working out how much power he actually wanted to give them and partly because Galactus respects Norrin enough not to take back those powers despite his rebellious nature.
  • Victory by Endurance: Ultimately what gives Norrin the win. Their stats and powers are evenly matched enough the hosts admit this fight could last for ages, but ultimately between the two of them holding nothing back only the Surfer through the Power Cosmic could reliably deal the fatal damage required.
