Note: This thread was proposed by Acebrock.

Baby Boomers is a trope about bombs in baby carriages, which is all well and good. The problem is the use is all over the place, as shown in the Baby Boomers Wick Check, ranging from proper usage to babies themselves as well as dolls as bombs to the generation of people born between 1946 and 1964. Never mind that it's just barely above not thriving (at 25 wicks), meaning cleaning the misuse would put it well below the threshold, and we have a problem.

I suggest cutting it and moving the living babies as bombs examples to.Action Bomb, simply because it seems Too Rare to Trope, plus the name is terrible.

Wick check:

Correct usage (bombs in baby carriages) 5/ 26

Index (Including where it's included in a bulleted list of subtropes) 5/ 26

Not to be confused with 2/ 26

Babies or dolls as bombs 8/ 26

    Not enough context 1/ 26
  • (Film.Undercover Blues) Baby Boomers: Jane uses one of these to eventually vanquish the bad guys who have her and Jeff surrounded. The real baby is safe and sound at a friend's house.

    I Thought It Meant 1/ 26
  • (IThoughtItMeant.A To C) Baby Boomers are not the people that are born just after World War II.
    • Nor does it mean the baby was away, and has just returned.
    • It's not about an infant's vengeance, either.
    • Or miniature versions of ballistic missile submarines.
    • Or infants with deep, loud voices.
    • Or mini subs armed with SLBM weapons.
    • It's also not about Cherry Bomb's species.
    • Or miniature versions of that particular Special Infected.

Referring to the generation 4/ 26
  • (NetworkDecay.Total Abandonment) There was once a cable channel known as Canadian Learning Television (CLT), essentially a Canuck version of TLC back when it still aired educational programming. It aired some syndicated U.S. programming (particularly the current Family Feud) and dramas in its lineup too, but mainly because it was a sister to Alberta's Access (now CTV Two Alberta as of 2012), which had a similar mix of programming. When its owner, CHUM Limited, was sold to CTVglobemedia in 2007, they decided to sell it to Corus Entertainment in 2008. Corus then rebranded it as Viva, a female-oriented lifestyle channel aimed at Baby Boomers, and tried to comply with its educational requirements by shoehorning short segments with university teachers vaguely relating programming to a course they taught. The further change happened in March 2011, when Viva became the Canadian version of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). This even caught the attention of the CRTC, which held hearings in December 2012 concerning OWN Canada's failure to follow its mandate to air educational programming — a stipulation dating back to its time as CLT. However, in October 2015, the CRTC dropped this stipulation and a related monitoring provision, due to the discontinuation of the genre protection rules and other related policies to deregulate the industry.
  • (olderThanTheyThink.Real Life) Except for maybe nuclear proliferation and e-mail spam, any problem that seems to be unique to the modern age has been around since the dawn of civilization. War, famine, pestilence, pornography, snotty teenagers, outrageous styles, unbelievably awful music, pop culture being stupid, consumerism, right-wing crackpots, left-wing crackpots, bad politicians, pollution, gang fights, corruption, it's all been done, repeatedly. In fact, every generation thus far in recorded history has believed it was witnessing the downfall of society that would end civilization and the world as we know it, so keep that in mind the next time people around you are panicking about the next flavor-of-the-month issue that's going to "ruin everything". See also History Repeats Itself.
    • A subset of the '60s idea is "Baby Boomers (or former Hippies) are selfish entitled pricks interested only in accumulating wealth, who grabbed everything for themselves & are responsible for today's economic and environmental problems." That's almost the exact thing the hippie boomers said about their "Greatest Generation" forebears when starting (or reviving, in some cases) intentional communities, the organic food, environmental, Handmade Is Better, back to the land, and second-wave feminist movements. Of course, not all boomers were hippies (and vice versa); and Ronald Reagan, who exemplified wealth-grabbing and environment-destroying, was Greatest Generation and put in power by same.note
  • (Series.Entertainment Tonight) Wolverine Publicity: The show seems to think that The Big Chill, a 1983 film about Baby Boomers is the greatest film of all time and has days of footage about it. Every time a year ending in "3" or "8" or a new home media release comes around, expect to be reminded of how this movie only thought of by most as filler on HBO or USA Network is the best two hours ever put to celluloid by this program.

Paging ~Acebrock to the thread. Anyway, I agree with cutting because it sounds like it's Too Rare to Trope because of how specific it is. That, and the name is horrible because it has nothing to do with actual Baby Boomers.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

Oh, yeah, and I agree with what was said about Action Bomb in addition to cutting the main page.

[tup] Definitely cut and crosswick to Action Bomb. The only trope I can think of that has a worse name is Forgot Flanders Could Do That.

Edit: [down][down][down][down] [tup] to yarding now.

Move anything worth saving, then detonate (cut).

Cut, but don't merge with Action Bomb and check examples individually.

Broader "hiding explosives in innocent places nobody would check" may be worth yarding.

[up] Agreed

Somebody Set Up Us the Bomb is I think the closest thing we have to a "hidden bomb" trope.

If we can get creative with the wick counting, a bunch of its wicks are content-unrelated pages like Alliterative Name and I Thought It Meant. It's solidly below starving if you ignore those.

Puns as trope names can work, but not if it's just an existing phrase with the words having different meaning, and even if you did grok that the name's supposed to be a pun you'd expect it to be about actual babies as bombs.

[up]I don't recall anyone saying otherwise, especially since the OP already mentions there being misuse that refers to babies or dolls as bombs.

[up]The name went for a pun [that doesn't work], and OP (and post 6) says the name is terrible.

[up]I'm aware, and I already commented on the name being a bad pun myself in my first post, while nobody here mentioned liking the name (either they called it bad or didn't say anything either way).

Calling thread in favor of cutting Baby Boomers + yarding concepts that aren't covered by other tropes.
