Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • The Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Cannibal, Nightmare and Jeff Johansen are all voiced by Filip Ivanovic.
    • Jean-Baptiste Garnier provides the voices for Oni, Executioner, Blight (one of the two) and Victor of the Twins.
    • Frédéric Poirier provides vocal effects for both Michael Myers and Felix Richter.
    • The Dredge shares some of its voices with the Knight (Misha Standjofski), the Nemesis (Sébastien Croteau) and Lisa Garland (Maude Théberge).
    • Both of the Unknown's voices are provided by Zoey Alexandria.
  • Approval of God: D.C. Douglas, Albert Wesker's most well-known actor, wished Connor Fogarty luck in the role of Wesker in Dead by Daylight.
  • Breakthrough Hit: This was Behaviour Interactive's most popular game to date.
  • Creator Backlash: Zoey Alexandria, voice actor for The Unknown, initially expressed regret for voicing the character shortly after its release after she had received word from fans on what her character actually was (something she wasn't fully clear on while doing recording), feeling that she had been "tricked" into voicing what she had been informed was — based on The Unknown's deliberately gender-ambiguous design — a transphobic caricature (not helped by how Alexandria herself is a trans woman and vocal coach for transgender people), even stating that she was going to pursue legal action. Shortly afterwards, however, she rescinded this claim and became supporting of Behaviour and The Unknown upon getting a better understanding of what the character actually was, clarifying that she was more upset by the transphobic harassment that unintentionally came about as a result of the character's design, along with the lack of communication regarding the design by Behaviour (who she otherwise described as being very kind to her and insisted were not transphobic).
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Nonbinary VA Liz Morey voices the female Sable Ward.
  • Content Leak: Dead by Daylight has been on the receiving end of quite the number of leaks when it comes to new content.
    • A majority of the Halloween DLC assets and perks were leaked a week or two before the DLC launched officially by people looking through the files of the current PTB.
    • Kate Denson's name and old sound files were leaked months before she was officially added to the game.
    • Freddy's old codename (The Sandman) and his voice files were leaked a week before the first official teaser.
    • The Pig's power, perk icons and Tapp's model were leaked weeks before the DLC launched.
    • Kate's perks were leaked shortly before the Curtain Call PTB started.
    • When consoles got the update for the Demise of the Faithful chapter, players discovered that you could equip three new teachable perks belonging to Ash Williams in Kill Your Friends.
    • The release of the 2.7.0 Mid Chapter Update accidentally added in The Ghost Face early as well as cosmetics for The Pig and David Tapp.
    • The names of Cursed Legacy's Killer, Survivor and Map along with the patch notes for it's update were all leaked before the official reveal.
    • The codenames for Chains of Hate's Killer and Map were leaked just four days before the PTB was launched and the lore and name of it's Survivor was leaked the day before the PTB launched by accident when Behaviour released the lore post early. The nickname for the Killer was leaked hours before the PTB launched.
    • The banner for the Silent Hill chapter was leaked from BHVR's website just an hour before the official reveal.
    • An Image of the Killer from the Portrait of a Murder Chapter leaked early on Twitter and Reddit.
    • The Chinese teaser for the Hellraiser chapter didn't change the title from the filename when they uploaded it, which had "HellraiserTeaserFinal" in the name, spoiling exactly what franchise the killer was coming from instead of the vague hint in the trailer itselfnote .
    • The information about the Project W chapter was leaked at the end of July, revealing almost every detail up to the Killer's chase music.
    • On May 17th 2023, just under a week before the game's 7th Anniversary stream, a massive slew of leaks regarding reveals such as the next chapter, the addition of Nicolas Cage (which prompted them to release his trailer early), the Year 8 Roadmap and other upcoming features, additions and projects were spread across Twitter and Reddit. This ultimately led to the anniversary stream being held earlier than intended on the 19th instead of the 23rd, as well as posts and discussions of leaks being banned outright from the game's subreddit going forward.
  • Defictionalization: Fun World has released costumes of several of the Ghost Face's cosmetic sets under Dead by Daylight branding, including his Raining Blood, Viper Ghost, and Scorched Ghost Face outfits.
  • Descended Creator: In addition to providing the vocal noises for the five above mentioned killers, Filip Ivanovic is also the game's art director.
  • Dueling Works: With Friday the 13th: The Game and Last Year, which are also about multiple players trying to survive a single killer.
  • Meme Acknowledgment: In the promotional image for the Intensity Collection, a photo of Dwight can be spotted in Meg's locker as the fandom often depict Dwight hiding in lockers.
  • New Work, Recycled Graphics:
  • The Other Darrin: More often than not, the licensed characters not portrayed by their usual actors visually or vocally, due to either not getting the rights to their face/voice or the actors just being unavailable.
    • Halloween: Laurie Strode and Michael Myers' voices and noises are done here by Catherine Lecours and Frédéric Poirier respectively.
    • Left 4 Dead: Bill is voiced by Ricardo Gomez.
    • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Leatherface's voice is done by Filip Ivanovic.
    • A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010): Quentin Smith and Freddy Krueger are voiced by Louis McLean and Filip Ivanovic.
    • Saw: David Tapp and Amanda Young are portrayed by Dave Blake and Christine Marsh here, in place of Danny Glover and Shawnee Smith.
    • Stranger Things: Nancy Wheeler, Steve Harrington and Jonathan Byers' voices are provided by Diane Guillemont, an undisclosed voice actor and Robby J. Fonts respectively. However, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton all still lent their likenesses to the models.
    • Silent Hill: Cheryl Mason, Lisa Garland, Cybil Bennett, James Sunderland and Maria are all voiced here by an undisclosed VA, Maude Théberge, Mary Zimmer, James Dorton and Amy O' Grady.
    • Resident Evil: Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, Rebecca Chambers, Chris Redfield, Carlos Oliveira, Claire Redfield, Sheva Alomar, Nemesis and Albert Wesker are voiced here by Riley McShane, Chaney Crabb, Vicky Psarakis, Megan Orvold-Scheider, Gerard Vachon, Drake Mefestta, Sébastien Croteau and Connor Fogarty respectively.
    • Alien: Ellen Ripley is voiced by Molly Daisy.
    • Alan Wake: Saga Anderson is voiced by an undisclosed voice actress.
    • An original example: during the early version of the PTB for 2.0.0, Kate Denson was voiced by Marie-Michelle Do. However, her voice actress was later changed to Daphné Poulin Gourdeau before her release.
  • The Other Marty: Initially, Pinhead's voice lines were done by an undisclosed voice actor and were subsequently removed, before Doug Bradley recorded his own lines.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Jonah's voice was recast in Patch 7.2.0. due to his previous VA, Michael Alvarez, being allegedly involved in an illegal activity involving minors.
  • Role Reprise: While most of the Guest Fighter characters don't retain their original actors, some of them have come back for their characters in Dead by Daylight.
  • Romance on the Set: Vicky Psarakis and Robert Joseph Fonts, the voices of Ada Wong and Jonathan Byers in Dead by Daylight respectively, are married.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: The deal to include Stranger Things content in the game expired in 2021. While Steve, Nancy, and the Demogorgon will still be playable for those who had purchased them, the DLC pack featuring them was removed from the store in November, the Hawkins National Laboratory map was removed from the game completely and their purchasable cosmetics in the in-game store including the Jonathan Byers legendary skin are no longer available. As of November 6th, 2023, all content connected to Stranger Things returned.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: During the game's Crossover with The Ring, the initial plan was that in addition to having Sadako Yamamura/The Onryō as a Killer, one of the protagonists from Ringu would be a Survivor, but Behaviour wasn't able to obtain the rights to use the likenesses of their actors. To compensate, they gave the role to Yoichi Asakawa, who was just a child in the movies, and aged him up to adulthood, making his plot in Dead by Daylight something of a Distant Sequel to the Ringu movies.
  • So My Kids Can Watch: Nicolas Cage revealed at the Summer Game Fest that he accepted an offer to become a playable character because his son was a fan of the game.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Two cancelled Killers:
      • In July 2016, around the time Behavior was teasing their first Chapter DLC, a trio of icons were discovered in the game's files: "Trapple" (a Survivor Item), "Detention" (a Killer Power), and "Underperform" (a Killer Perk), leading many to speculate on a potential Sadist Teacher-themed Killer. Instead The Nurse was released as the first DLC character, and those files remain unused.
      • "The Smasher" was a Killer explicitly confirmed to have been scrapped, with his original concept being that he was able to destroy anything in the map, from trees, to walls, to entire buildings. He was scrapped as it he would end up being impossible to balance properly for the game.
    • Cancelled maps:
      • Sadako/The Onryō was supposed to receive an accompanying map that was reportedly similar in design to Coldwind Farm, but it was binned as it was too similar to Coldwind Farm.
      • Behaviour considered developing a map for Pinhead/The Cenobyte, but this concept was supposedly rejected because it would have had "too much sexuality."
    • Some internal files list The Doctor's real name as "Mu Yi", suggesting that the character was originally meant to be East Asian, most likely Chinese or Korean (in both languages, his name would approximate to "without justice" or "without meaning"), which was further compounded by several unused titles for add-ons evoking Chinese motifs, such as "Jade Charm", "Nanmu Catapult", and "Tiger Fang Charm". The Doctor was based on Yang Yongxin, a real Chinese psychiatrist infamous for his unethical use of electroshock therapy (to allegedly cure gaming addiction of all things, which may explain why the Survivor who accompanied his release, Feng Min, is a former esports player), and was explicitly suggested by Chinese fans who voted him to be added to the game. The most likely reasoning for why The Doctor was renamed and made African-American in the final game was to make the connection less obvious, especially since Yang is still alive, and by some accounts still practicing medicine.
    • At a "Saw" Q/A, one of the audience members asked Shawnee Smith about Amanda/The Pig's presence on the game. Smith said she'd heard nothing about it prior to the character being created, only hearing about it after it was added to the game, and said she'd have been happy to do some of the voice work (had there been any) if she'd been asked to participate.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Leatherface/The Cannibal players were originally able to collect cosmetics based off of the faces of the original four survivors, but these were removed in January 2022 when it became clear that some players were using "Smartface" (the one based off of Claudette, enabling an especially perverse form of blackface) to harass black content creators and players using black characters.
  • Word of God: According to Dave Richard, the Nurse and the Wraith have "something going on."
