Sun Haven

    The Farmer
The player character, a resident from The Great City taking residence as Sun Haven's farmer.
  • Ambiguous Gender: There's no gender option to pick from, their identity is entirely up to how the player presents them.
  • Arrows on Fire: An upgrade in the Combat tree sets the Farmer's crossbow bolts alight, causing extra damage per shot and lingering burn damage. This is presumably magical in nature.
  • Automatic Crossbows: One of the Farmer's main weapons of choice is the crossbow. Leveling up its associated perks in the Combat tree will eventually have the player shooting up to three flaming bolts in a single pull, and be able to reload and fire again with speed comparable to a machine gun. It gets even more so if you get Arrow Storm, which explicitly uses magic to levitate several bolts at once and hurl them at your unfortunate foes.
  • The Chosen One: They're eventually summoned by Elios to be judged by him, and he deems them as the one who can save Sun Haven from the darkness creeping into the town. He also gives them his blessing to aid them on this quest.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Downplayed. While the Farmer never eats non-foods, they are able to consume raw or poisonous fish, like cuttlefish, and plain flour with the same health befits of other foods.
  • From New York to Nowhere: The player originally comes from place called "The Great City" and relocates to Sun Haven at the start of the game.
  • From Zero to Hero: Following the main storyline, they're just someone from the Great City moving to a culturally important but otherwise small town in the countryside. By the end of the story, they'll have rediscovered a literal Hidden Elf Village, infiltrated the reclusive city of monsterfolk, and even become a key diplomat in brokering a peace deal between the mentioned states and Sun Haven, ending centuries of hostility and isolation.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: During character customization, the player is able to name the character whatever they want.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: The player has two main types of weapons at their disposal, one of which being swords.
  • Master of All: Considering the game's XP system rewarding almost every action the player does in some way, the Farmer can very easily become well-versed and recognized in a number of specialized skills, with a special cutscene and reward for reaching level 50. They can become a household name in Sun Haven as they are the most trusted and prolific producer of agricultural goods both raw and processed; a well-traveled outdoorsman who constantly ventures deep into the unknown with all its mysteries and bounties; a highly accomplished spelunker that can mine the depths of any cave system for all they're worth; an incredibly skilled angler and/or fish trapper who has ventured all the inhabited bodies of water in the region; and a fearless veteran monster-hunter who has faced down countless dangerous foes and come out victorious. However, you will always only be referred to as the Farmer.
  • Multiple-Choice Past: They have one of ten different professions before moving to Sun Haven, which influences their starting inventory or stats. Their reason for moving to Sun Haven also affects their starting Keepsake.

Bachelorettes

    Anne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_anne_default.png
My name is Anne, and I happen to be Sun Haven's most distinguished merchant.
Birthday: Winter 21
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Occupation: Travelling Merchant
An unapologetic merchant whose caravan has taken residence in Sun Haven. She's always keen on turning a profit, even barging into your house on your first day to sell some farming tools and seeds.
  • Honest John's Dealership: Downplayed. While she initially seems like this after barging into the Farmer's home unannounced then pushing a set of cheap, rusty tools on them that you have to buy, Anne is actually quite the reasonable businesswoman the rest of the time. Though she leaves most of the day-to-day transactions to Emmett (as does the rest of Sun Haven), she owns and stocks the General Store, and is also mentioned to handle important shipments from out of town, like Kitty's regular stocks of animal feed.
  • Rags to Riches: Anne started with nothing in life, no one helped her save her mentor, a conman who eventually ghosted her. Yet she was able to use the non-conman skills she'd acquired to become a successful businesswoman.

    Catherine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_catherine_default.png
So good to meet you, I'm Catherine. I own the farming store here.
Birthday: Summer 25
Race: (Rabbit) Amari
Gender: Female
Occupation: Town Witch
The resident witch of Sun Haven and owner of the Farming Store, where she sells specialized seeds and fertilizer. She can also prescribe potions for the town, acting as Wornhardt's pharmacist for medicine orders.
  • Furry Reminder: She hates fish, meat, and anything that is even close to it, like Creamy Beef Stew which explicitly is a vegetarian version of the real thing. The explicit explanation from Catherine is that she's a rabbit Amari, an herbivorous subspecies; she even asks if you mistake her for Kitty, who is a cat Amari and a mostly carnivorous subspecies.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Carrots, fitting her leporine blood. She may even reach out to you and place an order for carrots to cater to visiting family. Carrot Cake and Carrot Juice are among her Loved items, too.
  • Witch Classic: She has a forest witch look to her, with her house entangled with foliage and vines, and even brews potions. The potions range from medicines, to magical fertilizer for your fields.

    Kitty
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_kitty_default.png
Hiiiii! I'm Kitty! You're that new farmer in town, aren't ya? Nya nya!
Birthday: Winter 23
Race: (Cat) Amari
Gender: Female
Occupation: Owner the Pet and Animal Stores
The bubbly owner of both Sun Haven's Animal Store and Pet Store. She loves animals and has the tendency to refer to herself in the third person.
  • Animal Lover: As evidenced by her owning and partially running both the Animal Supplies store and the Pet Store, along with having three domestic cats in her home, alongside a personal pen full of golden heartnote  animals who she spends hours of her day watching and feeding, day-in, day-out.
  • Furry Reminder: She frequently exhibits domestic cat behaviors, such as a love of hunting birds and small creatures (which she catches and releases), a strong preference towards sushi and other fish-based dishes, and warning you about her claws being sharp and able to scratch the player character. Her gift item is even a toy mouse, a common cat toy.
  • Never Accepted in His Hometown: Despite having lived in Sun Haven for her entire life, she feels like an outcast, from her strange tendencies, to having a background as a circus performer. Lucia and the player is some of the few people that can understand who she truly is.
  • Third-Person Person: She sometimes uses her name when talking about herself instead of saying "I" or "Me".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She likes most fish-based foods, for example fish taco, as well as any of the sushi and sashimi dishes.
  • Verbal Tic: She often ends her sentences by making a "nya" sound.

    Lucia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_lucia_default.png
As leader of Sun Haven I like to meet our new citizens personally. Welcome to Sun Haven!
Birthday: Summer 20
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Occupation: Archmage and Leader of Sun Haven
The fiery Archmage, and Sun Haven's leader. She was raised by her grandparents and blessed with magic by the Sun Dragon Elios when she was still a child.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Her grandfather called her "Cinderhead" when she was a child, due to her having been quite the troublemaker.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She has a dislike for most items with a connection to ice or snow.
  • Fiery Redhead: Not so much now, but she was quite the firecracker as a kid.
  • Playing with Fire: She became a fire mage after being blessed with magic by Elios and most of her Loved and Liked items also have something to do with fire or spiciness, though it is unclear if that is because her of a natural affinity for fire or, if it developed after receiving her blessing.
  • Promoted to Playable: In the Sun Down spin off, using her fire magic to fight off hordes of monsters and the darkness that swallowed up the now-ruined Sun Haven.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She takes her responsibilities as the leader of Sun Haven very seriously and does her best for the people of Sun Haven, even if she, admittedly, made many mistakes in the beginning.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Appropriately enough for a fire mage she is Unaffected by Spice and enjoys spicy food; her liked gifts include many spices, spicy dishes, and hot sauces.

    Lynn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_lynn_default.png
... Hey, if you don't mind me asking, are you heading to Sun Haven?
Birthday: Spring 10
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Occupation: Apprentice Blacksmith
Apprentice of Sun Haven's resident Blacksmith, Solon. While she is anxious about her move to Sun Haven, she is a talented blacksmith and hopes to make her family proud. She also moves in at the same time with the player, boarding the same train with them.
  • The Blacksmith: She comes from a family of them, too. While she's an apprentice, she strives to impress her family and her mentor.
  • First Girl Wins: Potentially, as she's the first romanceable character you meet, and are given the opportunity to befriend her before the game begins.
  • Noodle Incident: When calling her for assistance with Krusty, she mentions having broken her previous pickaxe after getting her replacement. How did she manage to break it?

    Miyeon

Gender: Female
Occupation: Unemployed
The shy and insecure daughter of a famous angelic scholar who arrives in Sun Haven during the spring, she is constantly striving to live up to her family's high standards while looking for her purpose in life.
  • Apologizes a Lot: She has more apologies in her dialogue than any other character by a significant margin.
  • Daddy's Girl: Formerly. There's a large sofa swing next to their house with a description commemorating their bond, but it hasn't been used in a long time.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: If the farmer dates her.
  • Extreme Doormat: She starts as one, but the farmer can help her start to subvert it.
  • Helicopter Parents: Hers split the duties, though her Fantasy-Forbidding Father has the more visible role.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: A very shy young woman from a very wealthy family that is constantly moving around. She desperately wants to connect to the outside world but also thinks she doesn't fit in anywhere.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: Her eyes are solid lavender with no visible pupils or irises.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Subverted. Even though neither of her parents like the farmer, once it's clear that she's in love and being with the farmer makes her happy they warm up quickly, much to her surprise.
  • The Perfectionist: Invoked and deconstructed. Both of her parents are the same way and they expect her to be a Go-Getter Girl in turn, but she's too shy and insecure to manage it. As a result she feels guilty doing anything for herself, apologizes constantly for purely imaginary offenses and shortcomings, and has trouble engaging in hobbies because she's too worried about doing them 'correctly' to enjoy them.
  • Tea Is Classy: She's the daughter of a prestigious upper-class academic researcher and she appreciates a good cup of tea. Her gift to the player is a special teapot.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cake. She's not especially picky about what type either, having eight types of cake in her 'Loved' gifts list.

    Vivi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_vivi_default.png
Birthday: Fall 23
Race: (Squirrel) Amari
Gender: Female
Occupation: Assassin
A spunky bounty hunter who's set up camp in Sun Haven to chase after a bounty: you. While she's proud of her occupation, her skills are much to be desired.
  • Tomboy: She has the most tomboyish characteristics of the female romance candidates both personality and looks wise with her profession as a bounty hunter, her dislike of rules and her love of weapons.

Bachelors

    Claude
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_claude_default.png
Birthday: Spring 24
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Occupation: Composer
A reclusive, musical prodigy living isolated in his own mansion. He keeps to himself so he can perfect his next composition.
  • Ambiguously Human: There are several hints that he may be a vampire. He sleeps in a coffin, likes foods that resemble blood such as tomato soup, dislikes garlic, uses a parasol while out in strong sunlight, and the item that gives you his appearance is the Vampire Potion. Plus, he's from Withergate, a town mostly populated by monsterfolk.
  • One-Hit Wonder:invoked The reason why he can't bring himself to finish his compositions. He composed a masterpiece, but he feels unable to surpass his first and last performance as a teenager. He puts up the lie of constantly working to avoid being judged as this.
  • The Perfectionist: While he composes for a living, he never finishes his compositions because they turn out less-than-perfect to him.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_jun_default.png
Birthday: Winter 11
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Occupation: Counselor, Teacher
Sun Haven's counselor and school teacher. A warm and empathetic man who loves to help others.
  • The Confidant: Listening to the worries of the townsfolk is part of his responsibility as the town counselor. What makes him a good confidant are his empathetic nature and his trustworthiness.
  • Good Samaritan: Whatever free time he has, he volunteers to help out. The player's kindness is also what draws him in to them, and is willing to lend a hand or be an ear for them.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He appears to have the longest hair of the male romance candidates and he has the pretty part down as well. Zig Zagged, since not all of his hair is the same length.

    Kai
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_kai_default.png
Birthday: Winter 17
Race: Naga
Gender: Male
Occupation: ???
An amnesiac naga who just washed up on the beach one day. With nowhere else to go, he decides to stay in Sun Haven, along with the possibility of regaining his memories in the process.

    Liam
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_liam_default.png
Birthday: Summer 5
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Occupation: Baker
The town's kind and bashful baker. He came to Sun Haven to find a home for him and his two younger sisters.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Get caught trying to steal from his wheat field, and he will call down the town guard on you. Aside from the fact that you're explicitly a farmer and can easily grow your own, it also angers him because it directly threatens his ability to provide for his sisters.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He's not too fond of spicy foods, spices and spicy dishes being among his Dislikes.
  • Promotion to Parent: He lost his parents in a house fire, leaving him to care for his little sisters.
  • Sweet Baker: Liam is a sweetheart, caring for his remaining family and runs the town bakery. As you bond with him, he'll even send in some of his baked goods to you.

    Nathaniel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_nathaniel_default.png
Birthday: Spring 13
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Occupation: Knight-Captain of the Guard
The Captain of Sun Haven's knights with a strong sense of justice. Despite his stern appearance, he is surprisingly naïve. However, this doesn't stop him from being the town's most dutiful knight.
  • BFS: Zig Zagged. In the opening cutscene it he orders one of the knights, Frederick, to bring him his sword, which look very much like a Zweihänder, but in his character portrait and during the “Krusty” event he is seen with a normal sized sword. This could also be because he's using one of the many swords in his personal collection, especially if the Farmer has been gifting him new swords themself.
  • Dork Knight: Dutiful as he is, he struggles to spark conversation that isn't related to his line of work, and occasionally has his head in the clouds.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Even though he can be a bit airheaded sometimes, he is still an exemplary and righteous knight, who takes his duties as the town's Guard Captain incredibly seriously.
  • Military Brat: His adoptive mother was a captain like he is, though he's not quite sure if his upbringing influenced him into following her footsteps.

    Shang
Birthday: Summer 9
Race: (Tiger) Amari
Gender: Male
Occupation: ???
A travelling, peerless swordsman under a strict code of honor. He left his homeland on a mission to save it.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: The man doesn't mince words, and isn't much for conversation. Him cracking a smile is one of the more surprising things he does as he begins to warm up.

    Wornhardt
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_wornhardt_default.png
Birthday: Fall 4
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Occupation: Doctor
The town's Doctor who is very dedicated to his job and runs the local hospital. He recently moved to Sun Haven from the Southern Islands hoping for a fresh start.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Downplayed. While Wornhardt doesn't mind apples since fruit remind him of his home, it's only considered a Disliked item because he has so many of them. You even get an achievement for trying to gift him an apple. This is also offset by having the Beginner's Apple Pie as a Liked item, and Honeyglazed Apples as a Loved item.
  • My Greatest Failure: He moved out of the Southern Islands because he couldn't save the daughter of the mayor, who was stricken by an illness he couldn't diagnose. The island turned on him for seemingly letting her die, and he still grieves he couldn't do more.

Other Townsfolk

    Peter
The resident fisherman of Sun Haven who provides the bulk of the seafood that the town enjoys and ships off to other town. A very easy-going soul, he spends most of his time either leisurely fishing or maintaining the Fishing Supplies store.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Peter is quite skilled as a fisherman, able to catch giant sea monsters without even intending to. However, he prefers to just keep to his usual easygoing pace, only bothering to maintain the Fishing Supplies store, and even outright shrugging off work, like his sister tasking him with filling up the Museum's aquarium wing.
  • Skewed Priorities: During the opening hours of the game, Peter tries to hook a Chunky Grouper and ends up reeling in a giant monster squid instead. The only thing he's bothered about is losing his bait and potentially losing the hook he was using.

Nel'Vari

    Iris
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_iris_default.png
Birthday: Summer 22
Race: Elf
Gender: Female
Occupation: Enchanter
The town enchanter, and independent girl continuously strengthening her abilities and learning more about nature's interactions with magic.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Iris loves pricklepop and prickletot pears even though their descriptions specifically mention how unappetizing they are.
  • For Science!: Downplayed. She loves to tinker and experiment but is quite careful to avoid crossing any ethical lines, though if the farmer asks her the right question she admits she toed those lines once or twice when she was younger but doesn't do it anymore, promise.
  • Goal-Oriented Evolution: Not for her people, but for everything around her. Her goal as an enchantress is to engineer nature, 'encouraging' it to develop in ways beneficial to Nel'Vari.
  • Lonely Among People: Talk to her enough and she'll eventually admit that despite living in Nel'Vari for over a century she doesn't really know anyone, doesn't have any friends, and doesn't care much about what any of them think.
  • The Workaholic: One of the main reasons she doesn't interact much with anyone outside Nivara is her dedication to mastering her craft and using it to improve the lives of the people of Nel'Vari. Not being social means more time working.

    Lucius
Birthday: Fall 20
Race: Elf
Gender: Male
Occupation: Moon Attendant
One of two attendants of the moon, who tends to Nel'Vari's nature while the town sleeps.
  • Mystical White Hair: His line of work has caused his hair to be a shimmering white due to his constant exposure to moonlight.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He's quite content leaving his chest bare, though he does cover up a bit in Fall, and is fully clothed in Winter.

    Vaan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_vaan_default.png
Birthday: Winter 3
Race: Elf
Gender: Male
Occupation: Wind Mage
A free-spirited wind mage, living by his whims and moral code, though feeling disconnected from society.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: You wouldn't think it, but Vaan is the Nel'vari equivalent of an accomplished mechanical engineer. He was the one to invent and maintain the Wind Lifts, which greatly increased the ease of convenience in moving around important locations like the Grand Tree, and the literal heights that Nel'vari architecture can reach.

    Wesley
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_wesley_default.png
Birthday: Spring 18
Race: Elf
Gender: Male
Occupation: Historian
Gorwin's abrasive assistant and Nel'Vari's historian. He values the town's traditions greatly, and is not quite welcoming to outsiders.
  • Ascended Extra: Being a fan favorite was a factor in him being promoted to a viable Bachelor in 1.2.
  • Berserk Button: Glorite.
  • Does Not Like Spam: The only romanceable character who dislikes pizza.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Honey, including any of the flower-infused varieties. It's one of the few items he's excited to get, breaking from his usual dour attitude.

Withergate

    Darius
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_darius_default.png
Birthday: Spring 1
Race: Demon
Gender: Male
Occupation: Prince of Withergate
The cocky prince of Withergate, ready to brandish his sword to challenge others. Despite his ego, he values respect...as long as he's getting it.
  • Creepy Souvenir: The sword he's always carrying around is partially made out of his grandfather's corpse, as Withergate demons turn to stone when they die.
  • Not So Above It All: Darius is generally very serious and no-nonsense; for example, he dislikes the amusement park and wishes the land had instead been used as a new barracks and training grounds for more soldiers for Withergate's protection. However, he does have his moments of levity; if the Farmer marries him, he gleefully mentions he can't wait to see the future Royal Consort bossing around the Withergate Castle guards.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Darius takes his duties as the crown prince and protector of the monsterfolk very seriously, always keeping himself trained in combat and thinking of Withergate's combat readiness in the case of another massive war or displacement, and eventually, being willing to act as a government representative for a peace treaty with Sun Haven, where his father Minos would prefer to stay in isolation.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Xyla. As they're both members of the Royal Council vying for influence they love getting chances to one-up each other and gifting one's unique gift to the other will earn a unique response to that effect.

    Donovan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_donovan_default.png
Birthday: Fall 17
Race: (Wolf) Amari
Gender: Male
Occupation: "Adventurer"
An adventuring wolf that lives in the moment, with plenty of stories to tell. He loves fun, be he's also quite impulsive.
  • I'm Taking Him Home With Me: Winds up on the receiving end of this at the Lantern Festival courtesy of Pod and Topi, much to his distress.
    Xyla
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spring_bust_xyla_default.png
Birthday: Fall 11
Race: Demon
Gender: Female
Occupation: Architect
Withergate's architect, and seat holder in the Royal Council. She's responsible for building the entire city, alongside inventing many of its revolutionary technologies such as "soft metal" (plastic).
  • Berserk Button: The Ticket Counterfeiter's description very pointedly mentions it is this for her.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: She's probably the smartest person in Withergate but avoids doing any work she doesn't have to. At one point she'll admit she doesn't want to be Queen because it's too much of a hassle.
  • Insufferable Genius: She near single-handedly solved the monsterfolk's homelessness and mass-displacement problems by innovating and constructing a giant metropolis filled with highly-dense vertical residential buildings, and all the other amenities and infrastructure they would need like massive sewer systems, power lines and machines like elevators, alongside entertainment like the entirety of the amusement park. She is also extremely proud of this, constantly bragging about her intelligence and accomplishments when insulting the Farmer, and is generally unpleasant to interact with even when she's not openly hostile.
  • Insult of Endearment: 'Sewer Rat' becomes this once she starts warming up to the farmer.
  • Jerkass: She's pretty much perpetually hostile no matter how close you are. Though as a demon, that doesn't necessarily mean much.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: On her second date she'll admit that having power is fun, but needing power is the mark of a psychopath, a surprisingly unsubtle insult towards her fellows and Dynus.
  • No-Sell: The only character with a completely indifferent reaction to the tentacle monster emblem.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Darius. As they're both members of the Royal Council vying for influence they love getting chances to one-up each other and gifting one's unique gift to the other will earn a unique response to that effect.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: She's remarkably fond of a farmer who can be as much of a jerk to her as she is to them, provided the farmer doesn't insult something she actually cares about.
