Following is a list of characters found in Last Night on Earth.
The Heroes
Father Joseph, Man of The Cloth
First appearance: Base game
- Badass Preacher: Even more badass, if you can provide him with the Faith card, which he gets to keep.
- Chaste Hero: The "Last Night on Earth" card explicitly mentions that it does not work on him.
- Does Not Like Guns: Cannot equip firearms (but this doesn't extend to the Flare Gun)
- Technical Pacifist: He is not allowed to use guns, but Flare Guns and Chainsaws are a-okay.
Sheriff Anderson, Small Town Law Man
First appearance: Base game
- Outliving One's Offspring: He appears in the Timber Peak expansion, his son Billy does not.
- Revolvers Are Just Better: Automatically equipped with one at the start, and has an ability to draw another from the discard pile.
- Shotguns Are Just Better: Starts with a Police Shotgun in the Timber Peak expansion.
- Shell-Shocked Veteran: Starts a game in the Timber Peak expansion with the card "Haunted Memories".
- The Sheriff: Well duh!
Becky, The Nurse
First appearance: Base game
- Hospital Hottie: Boy howdy! Notably she can be effected by the Last Night On Earth card with the male students.
- The Medic: Has an ability to heal a wound from herself, or any hero in her space.
Jake Cartwright, The Drifter
First appearance: Base game
- Cartwright Curse: Subverted (unless a Last Night on Earth card is played on him, and the female hero is later killed); Jake's curse is more "Always being at the wrong place at the wrong time", which is a trait shared amongst his ancestors throughout the Flying Frog games.
- Crazy-Prepared: His "Resourceful" ability can be seen as this, as he can pick two cards from the Hero deck, and chose which one to keep (discarding the other one).
Billy, The Sheriff's Son
First appearance: Base game
- Fragile Speedster: Automatically adds one to his movement, but can only take two wounds before dying (he can automatically heal one per his "Youth" ability).
- Killed Off for Real: As confirmed by Sheriff Anderson's bio in the Timber Peak expansion. Considering his less-than-great ability and that Alice from Timber Peak has a similar but improved one, the odds of us seeing Survivor Billy seem... unlikely.
Sally, The Highschool Sweetheart
First appearance: Base game
- Born Lucky: Her "Luck" ability lets her force a zombie to re-roll fight dice of her choice, though she's only able to re-roll one Zombie fight die in the Timber Peak expansion. Her Flavor Text also says "I don't FEEL very lucky."
- Does Not Like Guns: Her "Lightweight" ability prevents her from using any, outside of Revolvers. Thankfully, it seems she's gotten over this in the Timber Peak expansion.
- The Heart: For the Teenaged Heroes, at least.
Johnny, The Highschool Quarterback
First appearance: Base game
- Badass Boast: "I ain't goin' out like a chump."
- The Big Guy: Of the original heroes, despite just being a teenager—his "Tough" ability lets him win fights that are a tie, and his "Blitz" ability allows him to fight a zombie without automatically stopping his movement.
- Dumb Muscle: He was apparently held back a year for failing every class, but can kick undead ass in a one-on-one fight.
- Jerk Jock: Somewhat subverted, as, even though Johnny is one of the most popular kids at school, he doesn't openly pick on others (especially with zombies around).
Jenny, The Farmer's Daughter
First appearance: Base game
- Determined Homesteader: Is the daughter of Farmer Sty, and automatically gets an extra fight dice if she's at the Farm or the Corn Field.
- Handy Girl: Can choose to add or subtract a die to test if a Hand Weapon "Breaks".
Sam, The Diner Cook
First appearance: Growing Hunger
- Berserk Button: Do not mess with Sam's cigars, or his dog tags.
- Made of Iron: Has the highest wound threshold of the Heroes, and his "Brawling" special ability gives him the opportunity to cancel a Zombie Fight Card played against him.
- Retired Badass: Is a Vietnam veteran.
Michelle, Detective Winters
First appearance: Growing Hunger
- Revolvers Are Just Better: Automatically equipped with one at the start.
- No-Sell: Her "Intuition" ability lets her ignore a wound on a roll of 6+.
Kenny, Super Market Bag Boy
First appearance: Growing Hunger
- The Klutz: His "Clean Up On Aisle 7" ability lets him kill any zombie beaten in a fight (even if no doubles are rolled, which are otherwise needed to make sure that zombie is Deader than Dead), but he either takes a wound, or loses an item.
Amanda, Prom Queen
First appearance: Growing Hunger
- Men Are Strong, Women Are Pretty: Any male in her same space gets an extra fight dice.
- Lovable Coward: Can "Hide" from a fight on a roll of 4+, but can still fight if she has to.
Victor, Escaped Prisoner
First appearance: Hero Pack 1
- The Berserker: Gets an extra fight die for each Hand Weapon he has.
- Enemy Mine: If playing a game with Law Enforcement heroes.
- Face of a Thug: Starts a game with the Zombie Card "I Don't Trust 'Em".
- Master of Unlocking: His Lock Pick ability lets him get through a "Locked Door".
Stacy, Investigative Reporter
First appearance: Hero Pack 1
- In Harm's Way: Her "Daring" ability lets her move through and search buildings that are "Taken Over" by zombies, and her "Reckless" ability lets her draw a Hero card when she ends her move on a Zombie Spawning Pit.
- Intrepid Reporter
Mr. Goddard, Chemistry Teacher
First appearance: Hero Pack 1
- Kill It with Fire: Always counts as having a "Fire" ability, and can ignore the effects of "Lights Out".
- MacGyvering: Can discard two items to immediately draw a Hero Card, or take an Event (outside of Play Immediately or Townsfolk) from the discard pile.
Jade, High School Outcast
First appearance: Hero Pack 1
- Flash Step: Ignores any hits if she rolls any doubles with her fight dice.
- Strange Minds Think Alike: Gets an extra fight die with any character that has the "Strange" flavor text.
Nikki, Bush Pilot
First appearance: Timber Peak
- Kill It with Fire: Starts game with a Signal Flare.
- MacGyvering: Can discard an item to heal a wound from herself or another Hero in her space, or cancel a Zombie Event on the roll of 3+.
Ed Baker, Lumberjack
First appearance: Timber Peak
- Jack of All Trades: Has an ability calling the Trope by name, which lets him start the game with a Hero Upgrade.
Alice, Diner Waitress
First appearance: Timber Peak
- Fragile Speedster: If she rolls a 1 or 2, she can take an extra Move action.
Sister Ophelia, Reformed Nun
First appearance: Blood in the Forest
- The Atoner/Dark and Troubled Past: It's all in the manual, but Ophelia apparently fell in with The Mafia in her past, and wound up having to kill three hitmen who were ordered to kill her.
- Continuity Nod: If the story is to be believed, Ophelia killed the three men that Victor would end up arrested for. Considering Ophelia's story mentions that she "(left) behind her hardluck boyfriend to clean up the mess", there may be more history than we think...
- Heroic Sacrifice: Her "Redemption" ability lets her take a wound to cancel any Fight on the roll of 3+.
- Regenerating Health: Her "Dark Past" ability lets her heal a wound if she rolls a 4+ after killing a zombie.
Agent Carter, FBI
First appearance: Blood in the Forest
- Agent Mulder: Is noted is his bio as "searching for the truth", and his "Hunt for Information" ability allows him to discard the top 3 Hero Cards to draw 2 Hero Cards.
- By-the-Book Cop: Although holding the "I'm afraid that's classified." philosophy, he's still solidly one of the heroes.
- Handguns: Starts the game with one based on his "Agent" ability.
