Inu Tourmaline
"I'm the Dreamcatcher, and I'm on an important mission!"
The protagonist of Dreamer from a Distance, Inu is a friendly arctic fox who always has his head in the clouds.- All-Loving Hero: He treats everyone with kindness, unless they've wronged him.
- Befriending the Enemy: When Inu realizes that the Cube/Anomaly never intended to hurt anyone, and hasn’t acted violently in any way whenever he comes face-to-face with it, he decides to trust it.
- Blue Is Calm
- Chekhov's Skill: Inu’s ability to understand words in dreams without a language barrier becomes helpful later.
- Companion Cube: Inu talks to his houseplants at home.
- Cowardly Lion: Part of his character arc is about overcoming his fears, despite believing he is a coward.
- Cute Bookworm: One of his favorite hobbies is reading.
- Dreaming of Things to Come: Inu has prophetic dreams. He doesn't dream anymore because he always has his Catcher to take him to the Dream Realm whenever he sleeps. He chooses to always use his Catcher because one of his prophetic dreams is his own death, which causes him great anxiety.
- Dream Reality Check: He uses his pocketwatch as a reality check whenever he thinks he's dreaming.
- Dream Spying: Inu uses his dream ability to spy on the bandits and see if there is anything he and Delta can use to blackmail them.
- The Hermit: Inu lives alone in a cave in a mountain. He doesn't seem to mind a solitary lifestyle.

Delta Terracotta
"You gotta believe in yourself and chase your own dreams, Inu!"
Delta is Kalina's friend and is looking for her with Inu. She's bossy at times but very resourceful and reliable.- Circle of Shame: Happens in Delta's nightmare.
- Defiant Captive: Delta spends every second being a captive working on an escape.
- Facepalm: Does this often with her paw when frustrated or disappointed.
- Pragmatic Hero: Sometimes she includes questionable things, such as blackmailing, in her plans.
- Rage Breaking Point: Later in the story, Delta loses her patience and angrily yells at Inu because she believes that they got lost and that it’s his fault. To be fair, she cares deeply about Kalina’s safety and is frustrated by how often they get stuck. Still, she apologizes to him, especially because she knows that Inu was just a teen dealing with trauma.

Kalina Aloe

Kalina is a farmer's daughter from the city of Cornucopeia. One day, she ran off into Pefko Forest, and went missing.- Affluent Ascetic

Alaska

Alaska was the former Dreamcatcher before Inu, and she taught him how to use his abilities in the Dream Realm. Before Inu could finish his training, Alaska apparently went crazy and disappeared.- Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Liked to pat Inu’s head when he was younger.

Mr. Alwin
"Next time, when the sky is clear, bring a telescope and look closely. Without pointing it at the sun. Obviously. Never do that."
A corgi from Daphne Hill, Mr. Alwin is a shopkeeper of his wife's paintings, but is more well-known for being a conspiracy theorist. He has been studying what he calls the "Anomaly" in the sky for decades.- Conspiracy Theorist: Alwin is obsessed with the Anomaly.
- The Cuckoolander Was Right: Turns out, the Anomaly really is alive.
- Encyclopaedic Knowledge: He shares interesting fun facts with anyone who is curious enough to listen to him.
- Endearingly Dorky
- Friend to Bugs: Always seen with bugs like butterflies flying around him. He also names some of them.
Dante
Dante is Kalina's friend. He is a carpenter in Daphne Hill, and while he looks a little intimidating, he's actually a very gentle guy.- Gentle Giant: Delta initially thinks he looks "scary," but he turns out to be pretty caring and soft-spoken.
L.K.
- Cool Mask
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": She never says her real name. When asked, she makes up "L.K." on the spot.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: L.K. is verbally very rude but always goes out of her way to help others.

- The Heart: Bailey reminds Dusker that infighting is against the rules.
- Satellite Character: He is almost always with Sonnet.
- Tiny Schoolboy: He is not the youngest member but is the smallest because he is a fennec fox.
Sidian
- Deadpan Snarker: Sidian makes snarky comments.
- The Lancer: The foil for Dusker.
- Sharp-Dressed Man: Implied. The characters are animals so they don’t really wear clothes, but Sidian is implied to be this, as he wears a necktie during a business meeting in one of his dreams.
- Undying Loyalty: Even after all of the other bandits abandoned their base, Sidian sticks with Dusker.
The Captor (SPOILERS!)
The Captor
"Welcome, new Visitor."
???- Blue-and-Orange Morality: He tells Inu that he means no harm. But, only after starting to fall apart, he apologizes to Inu for involving him and his friends in his transformation plan. He also seems to apologize to Kalina.
- The Speechless: Outside of its dreams, he can't speak because he doesn't know how.
- Stellar Name: Inu gives him a name that means "star".
- Terrifying Rescuer: The protagonists distrust the Anomaly at first because he’s literally a gigantic cube with spirals.
- Time Abyss: Apparently he has traveled through many galaxies. But galaxies are millions of lightyears apart from each other...
