For Original Gargoyle Character Tropes, see here. But since more than a few undergo character development over the course of the story, here are new tropes that apply to the original cast as well.

    Goliath
Goliath: Leader of the Manhattan Clan, and the series' protagonist..

    Elisa
Elisa': X.
  • Happily Married: Goliath.
  • Mama Bear: When Amber is in danger, Elisa can practically sense it, and very nearly kills Tony Dracon when he tries to leverage her daughter as a hostage.

    Brooklyn
Brooklyn: Second-in-Command and all around bad boy.
  • Relationship Upgrade: In Christine Morgan’s stories, he’s the one who “wins” Angela’s affections, and they eventually settle down and become mates.

    Lexington
Lexington: X.
  • Straight Gay: Averted. While this is true according to show canon, in the stories Lexington is quite heterosexual, albeit with a primary interest in Aiden. Unlike Brooklyn, he barely glances at other women, though he clearly can recognize and appreciate beauty when it exists.

    Broadway
Broadway:
  • Real Men Cook: Hinted at in the series, but given much more focus here, Broadway becomes a bona fide chef in no time, and in the future chapters has started his own TV cooking show.

    Hudson
Hudson: X.
  • Old Soldier: Was this to begin with, but as time goes on it becomes more pronounced.

    Angela
Angela:
  • I Have No Brother: After Demona and Jericho cross a certain line, even Angela can’t forgive them, and blatantly and loudly disowns both over the evil they have committed. Even after Demona’s final Heel-Face Turn, she freely acknowledges Angela will never forgive her.

    David Xanatos
David Xanatos: The original master schemer, now ally to the Gargoyles.
  • Gadfly, The: Now that he’s no longer pursuing world domination or immortality (at least, not with the same vigor as before) Xanatos seems to get his main kicks out of needling others.

    Fox Xanatos
Fox Xanatos: X
  • Hidden Depths: Fox reveals she sews, and after some of her garments obtain acclaim, she even goes on to become a worldwide fashion designer with her own company FoxFire. She even convinces Angela and some of the other gargoyles to model her outfits, both to sell (hey, still a Xanatos), and to improve their public image. It works!
X: X

    Alexander Xanatos
Alexander Xanatos: X
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: The glimpses of the future reveal he is quite happy with Patricia as his fiancee. It helps they grew up together and are, just like his parents, compatible.

    Owen Burnett
Owen Burnett: X.
  • Happily Married: Subverted. Owen is perfectly content with Cordelia and occasionally muses the idea, but she shuts him down hard after a lifetime of very negative views on marriage. Meaning he only ever remains “the father of my children” to their family at large.
  • Hidden Depths: Listens to popular music, a secret even Xanatos knows nothing of.

    Puck
Puck: X.
  • Loophole Abuse: Occasionally has to find or invoke these in order to transform and salvage a situation.

    Gabriel
Gabriel: X.
  • Cartright Curse: Angela, Opal, Onyx, Citrine, Ventura, virtually all of his relationships with lady gargoyles end poorly, and with more than a few of them dead on top of that. He finally averts it when he settles with a nice human girl.

    Demona
Demona: Still a nightmare to the Manhattan Clan, and easily the source of most of their woes (and many of her own on top of that).
  • Ignored Epiphany: She is the Queen of these, of course, but suffers one after another, no matter how badly her losses double downs and continues to blame others rather than herself. Finally averted in the finale, however, when it seems she may finally have gotten a measure of self-reflection, and is making slow, tenuous strides towards becoming a better person.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Continues to be in fine form, virtually any act she does, no matter how altrustic it may seem, such as saving Aiden from attackers or guiding her son Jericho into the modern world, is designed to make them do what she wants.
  • Parental Incest: Jericho loves Demona, in a very unhealthy manner, and she encourages it, in part because of his unflailing loyalty, in part because she misses gargoyle males (especially one built much like Goliath). Virtually everyone else who learns of it finds it utterly sick.

    Anton Sevarius
Anton Sevarius: X.X: X.

    The Archmage
The Archmage: X.
  • Court Mage: Before becoming the Archmage, the unnamed villain was the Magus, and the Court Mage to Prince Corwyn. He was just as slimy back then as he is in the modern era.
X: X.

    Wolf
Wolf:
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Apparently the mutate condition is changing Wolf and make him even more lupine, which makes him extra aggressive, as well as hungry for manflesh. As well as other, more carnal urges.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Implicitly threatens to rape Tora once he captures her on Gung Ho Island. Then worse, eat her afterwards.

    Jason Canmore
Jason Canmore: X.X: X.

    Robyn Canmore
Robyn Canmore: X.X: X.

    Jon Canmore
Jon Canmore/John Castaway: X.
  • Determinator: You gotta hand it to the guy, no matter how many defeats her suffers, he’s right back at it, trying to destroy gargoyles, year after year. Right up until the day he died, he never backed down from his families crusade.

    Delilah
Delilah: X.
  • Hulk Speak: Even as her vocabulary grows and her intelligence matures, she continues to speak like this well into middle age. Mostly, because others find it cute, so she doesn’t bother to learn speak proper.
  • Meaningful Name: Retroactively becomes this, by virtue of her mate being Sampson.

    Lord Oberon
Lord Oberon
  • Chessmaster: Surprisingly, knows how to play. He manipulates events with several unwitting pawns in order to give his wife Titania what she wants (in his own way) as well as keep her beholden to him. Who would have guessed he had it in him to be subtle?

    Lady Titania
Lady Titania/Anastsia Renard/Lydia Stephanopolos
  • Determinator: She will be grandmother to Alexander, one way or another.
  • Foreshadowing: There’s a few hints that Lydia is Titania from the get-go, with her interest in Fox and Alex. But a very telling factor is her reaction to the sprig of Molly, which can dispel shapeshifting magics. She recoils from it, ostensibly from the smell, but equally to protect her disguise. It could also have been to avoid the Puck when he is changed back as well to help with the mess.

    The Weird Sisters
The Weird Sisters:

Original Characters

Over the course of the story, many new characters come to light and are introduced. This primarily concerns those who are present for more than one story, though a lot of them add to the main cast or advance the story in great ways. Even the one shots tend to be very interesting.

    Vito Draconi
Vito Draconi: Cousin to Tony Dracon. Also a criminal.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: Stylizes himself as this, enjoying fine wine, imported cigars, luxury automobiles.
  • Real Men Cook: He's surprisingly savvy in the kitchen. Even Demona is impressed.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Having no idea who Dominique Destine is (let alone who she really is) when she comes to bail him out of jail by posing as his wife, he can’t resist giving her a kiss in full view of the guards, hoping she wants to spring him badly enough that she won’t jeopardize the masquerade by protesting. Amazingly, it works.

    Aiden
Aiden: A supposedly ordinary high school student, Aiden is in fact touched by fate (and Avalon's magics) and begins learning spells in her late teens, as well as encountering the Gargoyles in her first story. As well as falls in love with Lexington.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Aiden grew up on stories of gargoyles and loved tales of magic and castles and medieval life. Then she met Lexington, and her life became part of a story.
  • Character Development: Grows from a shy, waifish girl who barely understands magic is real to a powerful sorceress, capable gargoyle, and wonderful mother. She even starts teaching magic to help others avoid repeating her early mistakes.
  • The Cutie: Definitely the most naïve and least worldly of the cast (to start). Even Angela has her world tour under her belt.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Retains her cute looks when she becomes a gargoyle.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Her hair is described as pale, almost platinum blonde, and she’s as good hearted as they come.
  • Heroic Self Depreciation: Tends to be very hard on herself, thinking she’s only good at magic, and even then, frequently only good enough to cause mistakes (especially with Hecates Wand). Everyone around her takes it upon themselves to improve her confidence, which bit by bit grows over the course of the story.
  • Magic Knight: A gifted sorceress and eventually a decent fighter (doubly so once she’s a gargoyle). She still mostly plays defense though.
  • Not Quite Flight: Before becomnig a gargoyle, Aiden does manage some simple levitation magic, but she’s not very fast or manuverable. She compares it to a game controller that only has up/down and left/right options.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: After she has a magical mishap that has Owen and Cordelia falling in love, no one ever lets her forget about it.
  • Shrinking Violet: On the small side and very timid, though she eventually grows out of it.
  • Touched by Fey: Her mother traveling to Avalon left an imprint on her, which transferred to Aiden, making her prodigiously gifted for magic. With a little tutoring from Puck, she's soon a very capable sorceress.

    Birdie
Roberta "Birdie" Yale: Aidens roommate at Sterling Academy, niece of Margot Yale, and all around professional nuisance and wise-cracker.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Like Aiden, Birdie is a big fan of fantasy stories (and has acted in a few Shakespeare plays based on them) and when her life is suddenly involved in faeries and magic, she dives in face-first and never looks back.
  • Author Avatar: Implied to be this, given how easily she fits into virtually any plot, as well as the loving attention given to her description and her ability to steal any scene she is in. She avoids being a Mary Sue, thankfully.
  • Badass Normal: Doesn’t hesitate to throw down with the others.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: She’s very proud of her figure, which is ample of the bosom and hips. Macbeth clearly isn’t complaining either.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Temporarily in the form of a gargoyle and not yet a master of gliding, Birdie does this to Broadway on their first meeting. She quickly rolls with it, while he’s left dumbstruck. She does like to leave an impression.
  • Large Ham: Well, she is a drama major.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She's a jokster and a flirt, but usually harmless. When she’s outright stalking someone, particularly someone uninterested like Owen, something is very wrong. You can also tell generally how serious a situation is by how much she’s joking and/or present. The darker chapters of the story do not feature Birdie at all.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Seems to be one of these, not much shakes her beyond a few colorful words.

    Ebon
Thailog/Ebon/Scarlet Angel: A dark cloned gargoyle of Goliath who is a surprisingly good musician.
  • Identity Amnesia: After the night at the amusement park, “Ebon” has no memory of his life as Thailog, and only learns of who he is and what he is gradually.
Heel-Face Turn: Without his memories, he reverted to the gargoyle instinct to protect, and embrace the noble heritage of his genetic donor, Goliath. Even after his memories are restored, the Face sticks, he decries what Thailog did out of spite, remaining Ebon for the remainder of the story.

    Julianna
Julianna: A runaway from the Harmond family, who was the singer for the Scarlet Angel band. Later becomes Ebon's lover.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Dark hair, pale skin, yes. Doubly so after her resurrection, which makes her a little creepy, if no less beloved by her family.
Interrupted Suicide: Thankfully, Ebon swoops down to catch her.
  • Runaway: Ran from home at an early age, apparently not happy with her life there. Doesn’t get much easier in the Scarlet Angel band, though things do finally begin to improve once Ebon comes into her life.

    Samson
Samuel Sevarius: The son of Anton Sevarius, suffering from a rare bone disease... until daddy came along with his syringes...
  • Meaningful Name: After his transformation into a shaggy homo gigantipithicus, he tends to just use the shortened Samson, referencing the biblical character. Appropriate, considering his immense strength and the fact that he hooks up with Delilah.

    Aiden
Cordelia St John: X

    Grandmaster
Grandmaster: The head of the Illuminati.
  • Cool Old Guy: Doesn’t seem to have a malicious bone in his body, and takes young Matt Bluestone under his wing. Its implied he did the same with Xanatos, and given most of the Illuminati seem to be backstabbing, self-serving snakes, he shines through as one of its truly benevolent members, with humanities best interests at heart.
  • Hypothetical Voice Casting: It’s not outright stated, but given his mannerisms, it has to be Patrick Stewart.

    Godiva
Godiva: A dancing gargoyle stripper. Or more accurately, a robot designed to function as one, built by David Xanatos as a present for Goliath during his bachelor party. The robot was subsequently hijacked and used for nefarious purposes multiple times, until eventually its consciousness was taken over by Sabra Indrani (see below). Since then, she has effectively become Godiva.
  • Bedlah Babe: Dresses like this. Originally, it was because she was a dancer for Goliath’s bachelor party, but even after her escape and reboot, she’s taken to liking the outfit (as well as the effect is has on others).
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: A Sex Bot gargoyle who was given huge breasts to up her sex appeal.
Hudson: She cinnae glide with such things.
  • Male Gaze: Draws it whenever and wherever she goes.
  • Ms. Fanservice: A blatant example, but then again that was what she was built for.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Just how the hell did Xanatos design and build such a perfectly life-like robot? Godiva is generations ahead of the Steel Clan, or any other robots built during the show or stories. The question goes unanswered over the course of the stories. Possibly just Rule of Sexy taking effect.
  • Ridiculously Gargoyle Robot: Virtually no one can tell she’s artificial unless she tells them. Hell, half them time even Godiva forgets she’s just a machine.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: Given she was designed, not born, its unfortunately true. Coupled with her hidden emitters that can stimulate males who might not otherwise be interested, she is quite literally irresistible to anyone with a pulse.

    Jericho
Jericho: The son of Goliath and Demona, who takes after his evil mother.
  • Ax-Crazy: Anxious to spill blood.
  • Cain and Abel: While he’s not as murderous, Jericho is very much the Cain to Angela’s Abel.
  • The Dragon: Serves as this in Demona’s Clan, always doing everything for her. Including a few things without her direct approval, simply because he knows she wants them.
  • Irony: Will never allow Elisa Maza to be harmed. Despite the hatred Demona has for her, he is convinced that without her, Goliath will turn from humanity and go back to Demona (not a single other person believes this) and ruin his chances with her. So in order to keep Demona his, he needs to protect Elisa. Well aware Demona would be furious if she found out.
  • Parental Incest: Jericho loves Demona, in a very unhealthy manner, and she encourages it, in part because of his unfailing loyalty, in part because she misses gargoyle males. Virtually everyone else who learns of it finds it utterly sick.

    Elektra
Elektra: Daughter to Prince Malcolm and the nameless White Gargoyle, Half-Sister to Princess Katherine, Elektra was the first hybrid in centuries (that anyone knew of). Raised on Avalon with the other Eggs, she eventually ventured into the modern world in search of her rookery brother Jericho. Along the way, she met Broadway, and the big lug won her heart through his gentle strength and good nature. They eventually became mates and gave birth to a boy, Malcolm.
  • Determinator: Is the first half-gargoyle to discover she can remain unchanged by day, purely out of a need to protect her mate from Demona. Until then, the whole concept was ludicrous even to her. She was equally determined to track down and save Jericho, but of course by the time she even saw him again, he was too far gone.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Gargoyle Mother, Human Father.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Why she ultimately ends up with Broadway, who truly cares for her. It takes her a while to realize this, but eventually she gets there.

    Gustav Sevarius
Gustav Sevarius: What his brother Anton is to the body, he is to the mind. An expert at psychological and chemical manipulation of minds. And quite possibly, an avatar for the Dragon...
  • Classy Cane: Given his age, an understandable accessory.

    Harry the Hammer
Harry the Hammer: Quarryman Fanatic #1. At least, to start.
  • Determinator: As Jon Castaway’s more loyal follower, naturally he’s this. He will never let the gargoyles succeed in destroying humanity. He’s on a mission from God.
  • Heel–Face Turn: During the awful Devil’s Night, he has a startling revelation (possibly helped by an unintentional electroshock therapy session) that gargoyles -aren’t- the enemy, since they’re fighting Damien, who clearly was evil. He one-eighties HARD and does all he can to help them end the Night, getting holy water for Elektra, and apparently later sets up a church for gargoyles, doing his best to teach others of their supposed blessedness.

    Amber
Amber: Daughter of Goliath and Elisa Maza.
  • Childof Two Worlds: Half-Gargoyle, Half-Human. And thanks to her birth and aging rate, never truly fits in with either side of her family, human or gargoyle or mutate. She is unique.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Gargoyle Father, Human Mother.

    Ventura
Ventura: X.
  • Dark Action Girl: A One Woman Army who can (and does) fight off virtually anyone who wants her.
  • One Woman Army: Programmed with centuries of fighting experience and techniques, as well as given enhanced strength for her size, she's exceptionally dangerous in close-quarters combat.

    T.J.
T.J.: X.

    Sabra Indrani
Sabra Indrani: X.

    Old Mother
Old Mother: One of the elder gargoyles of Castle Wyvern in Scotland, and an amateur (implied to be self-taught) alchemist. She serves as a mentor to Eolande and takes care of the younger generation of gargoyles, one of whom eventually grows up to be Goliath.
  • Cool Old Lady: Respected for her skill as an alchemist and beloved by both the Prince and her gargoyles (all but a few, at least), Old Mother also takes on a grandmotherly role for Eolande, sensing the poor girl is very much in need of it. Appropriate, given Eolande is actually Amber, her actual granddaughter from the future. She also goes toe-to-toe with a succubus and holds them off long enough for help to arrive, when the monster had expected an easy kill from the elderly gargoyle.

    Damien
Damien: [[spoilers:Brooklyn and Angela's son, stolen away by Jericho to present to Demona as a child they can raise themselves. Later hatches far too early, becomes tainted by evil spirits, and eventually tries to bring about a literal end of days]].
  • Anti-Christ, The: [[spoilers:He certainly seems to be this for the course of Devil's Night, when he opens up a gateway to Hell and nearly swallows up Manhattan (with plans to move on to the world next)]].
  • Walking Spoiler: There's a reason a lot of what's above is blanked.

    Kathe
Kathe: Brooklyn and Angela's daughter.
  • Goth: Dresses this way, in a decidedly morbid fashion. Even when out in the woods at a camp, she looks like she’s going to a rave. Later evolves into a Perky Goth as her mood improves.

    Jake
Jake: The son of an alternate Brooklyn and Feather, his mate in another dimension. Adopted by the mainstream clan.

    Cobalt
Cobalt: Named Teacher by the old generation of Gargoyles who lived at Castle Wyvern.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Quarter-Human, Quarter-Gargoyle, Quarter-Fey, Quarter-Dragon. His family tree is an interesting one.

    Morganna
Morganna: From Arthurian Myth, the half-sister of Arthur Pendragon, seeking his demise (as well as the destruction of the fey), for reasons.X: X.
