Oh, I thought that some people wanted to rewrite the description. Maybe I misunderstood something.

If the description is fine as it is, then I guess that means that there's nothing else for us to do in TRS. I'll close this thread and redirect clean up discussion to the Berserk Button clean up thread if there aren't any objections.

So we can finally start cleanup of the wicks?

One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.

Yeah, we figured out how we wanted to define the trope so we can move forward with cleanup at the the Berserk Button clean up thread.

Since no one has objected to closing the thread, I'll do the honors now.

Wick check archive

On this page, we will be doing a wick check for Berserk Button.

Why? A Berserk Button is supposed to be a specific, recurring trigger that drives an otherwise reasonable or cool person into a disproportionate rage. It gets misused so many ways that it has one of the longest entries on Square Peg, Round Trope, but basically all of the misuse can be summed up as "anything that makes a particular character mad", which is People Sit on Chairs. Specific misuse includes:

  • Character gets triggered over this thing once.
  • Character was already in a bad mood (Rage Breaking Point or Rant Inducing Slight).
  • Character has "a lot of Berserk Buttons" (Hair-Trigger Temper).
  • Character is angry at someone threatening and/or harming their loved ones (completely normal, at most Beware the Nice Ones if the character is normally gentle and mild-mannered).
  • Character only gets mildly upset.
  • Character's anger isn't disproportionate.
  • The entry just says "Do not do [thing] around [character]" with no elaboration of their specific reaction or any situations where this was demonstrated. Not exactly misuse, but still a problem.

172 wicks. This is gonna take a while...

Wicks Checked: 182/172

    open/close all folders

    Correct Use (16/172)
  1. Characters.Dragon Ball Zamasu: Being called a sinner. Doing so results in him flying into a rage and him shouting that mortals are far worse than him. When Trunks calls both Goku Black and Future Zamasu murderers, they both get angry and declare he's done worse than they by going back in time and saving Goku's life from the heart disease and creating two seperate timelines. This sounds correct?
  2. Characters.Land Of Oz (The Woozy): Parodied. The word "Krizzle-Kroo" sends him into a rage, because he has no idea what it means. Has another example in ZCE folder.
  3. VideoGame.Fernz Gate: The best way to incur the wrath of Maidame Curie is to tell her her current form is only a child. I guess this is correct, though it could use more context on what her wrath is.
  4. ComicBook. The Scrameustache: Provoke any Figueuleuses with naming-calling and they'll retaliate violently against you. Has another example in ZCE folder.
  5. Characters.Sunday Without God (Ai): She gets violently angry when people call themselves or others monsters.
  6. BrilliantButLazy.Real Life: On the subject of ADHD, a variation of this trope is on effect; not because of laziness, but due to the inability to focus on the task at hand and difficulty initiating tasks thanks to neurotransmitter-related issues. Being called lazy is usually a big Berserk Button, as many really want to do something but literally can't.
  7. Recap. The Interns S 1 E 13: Kupitman is so drunk that, when accidentally provoked by Lyuba (Kysegach's name acts like Berserk Button for him in this condition), he acts like dangerously insane madman, and attacks Lyuba and Varya with broken bottle. Lyuba barely manages to calm him down.
  8. Literature.Fluke: Rats stir in Rumbo a fury which scares Fluke. Low context, but seems OK
  9. Characters.Avatar The Last Airbender Zuko: Also taking shots at his scar or even the very mention of it makes him extremely angry.
  10. WebVideo.Danganronpa Parody: Makoto can't stand the Narrator constantly forcing him to learn new gameplay mechanics, and in turn Makoto's status as an Idiot Hero pisses the Narrator off to no end.
  11. Characters.Project A Ko: (B-Ko) Not So Above It All: Though typically a stickler for proper conduct, there is one exception: she can't. Stand. A-ko because she keeps beating her. So B-ko will stop at nothing to beat her into submission. The Punctuated! For! Emphasis! can probably be removed, but this otherwise is fine.
  12. Older Than Feudalism: In The Bible, do NOT turn God's temple into a marketplace, even twice; or Jesus won't be amused.
  13. Anime.Fate Grand Carnival: Belittling Red Hare or even implying that feeding it doesn't take priority over everything else sends Ritsuka into a terrifying rage.
  14. Fanfic.Belated Battleships: Mutsu's ability to pronounce tildes drives Jersey batshit.
  15. VideoGame.Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door:
    • Implying (intentionally or unintentionally) that Rawk Hawk is weak is a bad move, as he'll either go to great lengths, even cheat, to prevent the accuser from commenting on it as a means of exacting revenge on the accuser, or directly attack the accuser (although the latter did not end so well for him as the person who accused him, Bowser, was more than entitled and justified for saying that).
    • Lucky, the Bulky Bob-omb who runs the lottery, gets very angry if anyone cheats.
  16. VideoGame.Spookys Jump Scare Mansion: It's noted on the game's wiki that Spooky resents the fact others think that she is "adorable" or "cute"; she wants to be feared. With this in mind, it's very easy to formulate that Spooky is responsible for gathering the Specimens specifically so she can be feared through her connection to this nightmarish collection of killer monsters. One ending pretty much shows that she has been using the ghosts of those that died in the mansion to create a ghost army to terrorize people and that she can finally be taken seriously.
  17. PlayingWith. She Is Not My Girlfriend: Bob resorts to physical violence when asked if he is dating Alice.

    Triggered Once (18/172)
  1. VideoGame.Lilys Well: Antonio is only shown angry in the joke ending where Lily attempts to throw out the weed whacker he apparently broke at some point. Because he believes it can still be fixed, he activates a button that causes the garbage can by the road to eat Lily.
  2. Funny.Spider Man Into The Spider Verse: Another scene during the infiltration had Spider-Man Noir regarding a painting at Kingpin's office. Has another example in Mildly Upset folder, and another in the Not Disproportionate folder.
Noir: What a beautiful painting. I love the use of purple.
Ham: Again, color's not his strong suit.
    Noir: IT'S PURPLE!
  3. Film.Dial Code Santa Claus: The Santa is very kind (if not a bit creepy) to a little girl on his lap at the mall until she tells him she doesn't like his face and calls him a fake. Then he slaps her.
  4. Fanfic.A Brighter Dark: When Corrin claims that no price is too great to pay for getting her scars healed, Nyx flips out to the point of physically manhandling her, yelling in her face, and refusing to show remorse for it.
  5. NightmareFuel.Pamtri: "Plankton!" is generally a pretty standard affair when it comes to Pamtri's Spongebob parodies... except for one key thing: Squidward is back to his "Dying for Pie" form. Halfway through, Plankton calls him a "mediocre clarinet player" just like in the original episode. This royally pisses off Squidward.
  6. Roleplay.Pokemon Battle By Post: For Texas Cloverleaf, the ability Rivalry was this in the past. Most users who challenged his gym deliberately brought Female Pokémon to take advantage of his Male Haxorus. Then someone brought a Nidoking to his Gym which has Rivalry. And it made the difference resulting in a KO to one of his Pokémon before it could use a Combination Attack. Texas' reaction? He raged and then hotfixed Rivalry to have no effect because it is a "fucking bullshit ability". This was later changed to just making the ability have no debuff.
  7. Characters.Mad Father: (Aya Drevis) She has one regarding the stealing of her mother's things. At first, she's terrified of Ines, one of the game's reawakened dead, but the moment she realizes Ines has stolen her mother's perfume, all of Aya's fear for her instantly disappears and she jumps at her to reclaim it.
  8. Characters. The Penguins Of Madagascar: (Kowalski) Skipper learned the hard way what that was in "Goodnight and Good Chuck" — destroying his computer will get you attacked, even if you are technically his boss.
  9. Characters.Banjo Kazooie: (Nipper) When Kazooie insults him, Nipper immediately decides that "cheeky bird needs feather clipping", starting the boss fight.
  10. Characters.Camp Lazlo: (Chef McMuesli) A list of them to be specific, by episode.
    • (Beans & Weenies) Being forced to run a home economics class, or in this case, putting up with Lazlo, Clam, and Raj making a mess of his vegan hot dog recipe.
    • (Meatman) Making fun of his cooking and making Chef Mc Muesli look like a hypocrite, for example, Lazlo imagines the chef's broccoli salad as a mini forest and pretending to be the chef clear-cutting the forest.
    • (Burpless Bean) Soda on the camp premises, saying soda is for losers. Yes too much soda is no good, but him being a vegan and health nut, of course, he would go to the extreme.
  11. Funny.Fraggle Rock: The final episode, while mostly a Tear Jerker, has a funny scene in which Doc informs Sprocket of their flight arrangements.
Doc: Well, Sprocket, to be truthful, you don't actually have [a ticket], because you're... going baggage.
Sprocket: Rowr-rowr? ROWR-ROWR?! (translation: Baggage? BAGGAGE?!) [Goes berserk, attacking the airline ticket, Doc's hat, and the telephone.]
  12. Characters.Celeste: (Badeline) She gets positively FURIOUS when Madeline tries to completely reject her and states she doesn't need her anymore, flinging her all the way down to the mountain.
  13. ContrivedCoincidence.Animated Films: Wreck-It Ralph:
    • Fix-It Felix, lovestruck by the Statuesque Stunner Sergeant Calhoun, compliments her as "one dynamite gal". Which just happens to be an unstoppable Berserk Button for her, as it's what her late fiancé used to call her.
  14. Recap.Babylon Berlin S 1 E 3: When her brother-in-law calls Charlotte a tramp, she loses her temper and beats him with firewood.
  15. Characters.Sally Face: His orientation seems to be one. Sal makes a suggestive quip about it and promptly gets decked in the face.
  16. VideoGame.Kirbys Epic Yarn: Capamari quite literally Turns Red with rage after his knit cap is unraveled. Possibly because it's guarding his button weak spot, possibly because it reveals that's he's an octopus and not a squid.
  17. VideoGame.Mother 3: Li'l Miss Marshmallow will not tolerate you touching her master's "Friend's Yo-yo".
  18. JustForFun.Rickroll: In Bumblebee, a Take That! to the meme has the song depicted as a Berserk Button for the eponymous Autobot, who destroys the cassette it's on after being forced to play just a second or two of it.
  19. ThisIsGonnaSuck.Fan Works: These are Danny's exact words when Johnny 13 angers Beerus by destroying his ice cream sundae in The Ghost Boy and the Destroyer.

    Bad Mood/Rage-Breaking Point/Rant-Inducing Slight (1/172)
  1. Rant Inducing Slight: Firefly has Kaylee fly into one such rant when an Alliance officer calls Serenity a "junker".

    Hair-Trigger Temper (7/172)
  1. Characters. The Angry Video Game Nerd The Nerd: This is what he's known for!
    • Excessively long passwords, and using any other button besides A to jump are his two main ones.
    • Games without the pause features, such as Ghostbusters II on NES.
    • LJN. Just LJN. Just the mere sight of the rainbow logo on an LJN game cartridge is enough to make him snap.
      • Which makes it even more funny when he finds out that Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage on the SNES, which he considers the only Spider-Man game that is good, was also made by LJN. The fact that LJN made a good game practically breaks his mind in the most dramatic way possible.
    • Goddamned Bats!invoked
    • The Medusa Heads in Castlevania have reportedly given him a pathological hatred of wavy lines.
    • Sequel titles that don't follow a logical numbering system.
    • Games with NO CONTINUES!?!? after you die. Turned Up To Eleven if the game combines this with One-Hit Kill or only having one life throughout the entire game.
    • Game cartridges with no end labels.
    • In Batman Part I, when he explains the utterly ridiculous controls of the SNES Batman Forever game, which was designed with the Mortal Kombat engine. He actually seems to have strained his voice by the end of the review.
    • AC adapters with built-in prongs (which tend to preclude the usage of the two adjacent sockets) also greatly annoy him, as seen in the Sega 32X and Dracula reviews. Related to this, ancient consoles which force the player to make use of an RF connector box for television hookups as opposed to just plugging a cable into a much simpler coaxial converter.
    • Loading times. His annoyance with them is most pronounced in the Superman (Commodore) and Zelda's Adventure reviews. Also seen in the Batman Forever review, which ironically was a cartridge game.
Nerd: ...Whenever you access a new part of the game, it says "Hold On". Hold on for what? It has to fucking load?!
    • Overly cryptic puzzles, such as in Milon's Secret Castle and Super Pitfall.
    • Any game that has annoying design elements that just make the game more irritating to play—Kid Kool is one example he particularly singled out, where he lists numerous design flaws (fittingly named "Seven Deadly Sins of Game Design") that blatantly hamper the experience, such as "One Way Bullshit"note , "Topside Aquatic Ass" note , and "Two-Gear Diarrhea"note .
      • Particularly when doing something (like using a grappling hook in the SNES Batman Forever or accessing an item needed to recover health in the NES Dick Tracy) is made needlessly complicated by bad game design.
    • A minor one by comparison; having the music continue when a game is paused.
    • If you don't think he can be overwhelmed by annoyance in how lacking in depth a game is, jump to 3:03 of this episode and note a problem at that point that got missed. If you're wondering, let's just say it's not exactly a challenge to get a high score in that particular game due to evidence that the game is INCREDIBLY incomplete.
    • Out of his usual complaints, games with bad controls seem to be the chief problem. Generally, he can forgive a game for having bad graphics, obnoxious music, or obtuse clues, but never if it's a chore to actually operate.
    • Games with inconsistent and/or unfair rules really throw him off the deep end. Beetlejuice for NES is notorious for this ("Diarrhetic Diversions"), where you can fall to your death if the floor below is not on screen (the "Bitch Barrier") and yet can be hurt by torches not on screen.
    • As seen with Dick Tracy and Total Recall, the idea of going to the video store as a kid and renting a game that turned out to suck, since it was the one game he could play that whole weekend, thus ruining his weekend.
    • He may not like a lot of the games he reviews (in fact, some of them, he hates!), but if you try to get rid of them and replace them with copies of Gyromite and Stack-Up, it doesn't matter if you're even replacing Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, he will destroy you!
Nerd: ...no more Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde... I WON'T FUCKING HAVE IT!
    • Guns; specifically guns and kids. For his Wish List Christmas episode the Nerd was horrified by children's toys advertised alongside enough guns to resemble Charlton Heston's Xmas catalogue. Which makes sense, in an earlier video he reviews the Odyssey which included a gun: unpacking it and when showing it off he showed very good gun safety despite it being a toy.
  2. Fanfic.A Shadow Of The Titans: Jade suddenly seems to have a whole bunch of them. Her transformation and the stress of her situation seems to have given her a seriously short fuse. Naturally, this doesn't help her situation with the Titans any. Has another example in ZCE folder.'
  3. Characters. The Big Bang Theory Sheldon Cooper: He has numerous examples:
    • Perhaps it would be best to begin with an in-universe listing...
Raj: What did you do? Did you change the contrast or brightness settings on the television?
      Leonard: No.
Raj: Did you take a Band-Aid off in front of him?
      Leonard: No.
Howard: Did you buy generic ketchup, forget to rinse the sink, talk to him through the bathroom door?
Raj: Adjust the thermostat, cook with cilantro, pronounce the T in often?
      Leonard: No!
      [Beat]
Howard: ... Did you make fun of trains?
    • Don't mention Wil Wheaton around Sheldon, unless you want a "WHEEEEEAAAATOOOOOONNN!" that would make Shatner proud. (They made up at the end of "The Russian Rocket Reaction" and are now good friends — according to Sheldon, anyways). Unfortunately, Brent Spiner then inadvertently replaces Wil Wheaton on Sheldon's Mortal Enemy list.
    • The Goofy character. This is a reference to a 1 panel webcomic strip known as "It's Goofy Time". Sheldon's dialogue is a direct copy of the non-goofy character from it.
      Penny: What's wrong with Goofy?
Leonard: Beats me... he's fine with Pluto.
    • Don't sit in Sheldon's spot on the couch. You will regret it.
    • He also loathes being lied to, as it has caused some serious friction between some of his friends.
    • While Sheldon is almost fine with cheap shots aimed at his mother, do not insult his Meemaw. (Grandmother)
    • Being let down by his friends, but especially Leonard, is another one. After Kripke humiliated him on NPR, his misery is compounded when he finds out Leonard laughed.
    • Sheldon usually doesn't resort to physical violence, but question the legitimacy of his work and back up your claims with tangible proofs and all bets are off!
    • The following exchange:
Sheldon: You want me to share credit?
      Scientist: Yes.
      Sheldon: GET OUT.
    • A minor example, but only his mother and sister are allowed to call him "Shelly". Also, only his "Meemaw" is allowed to call him "Moon Pie."
    • Amy is a new one — Sheldon actually physically assaulted Leonard (via a somewhat weak karate chop to the back of the neck) when he felt that Leonard might have been considering a rebound with her and firmly saying Amy's off-limits. He also hit Bert in the face when he insulted Amy, hard enough to where he needed his hand bandaged afterward (although Sheldon remarked how he wasn't even sure Bert realized he was trying to physically assault him).
  4. Characters.Mario The Music Box: (Alice Aduraice) While she seems to be easily angered, one thing she takes great offense to is when someone blames her for something she didn't do or was responsible for; she particularly rips into Marchionne when he blames her for being behind everything wrong that had happened to him including Luciano's death. Her mother was a living one for her as well. Emphasis mine- example outright admits she is easily angered, so it fits HTT better.
  5. WebVideo.Dave Mitchells Soapbox: A staple of the humor in the show is that he has opinions on minor annoyances, everything from Sausage rolls, being forced to dance, Americanized spelling note , and tea that's too hot. The show has about 86 episodes, so that is a lot of buttons pushed.
  6. FreudianTrio.Anime And Manga: Id: Polly Esther — Walking Berserk Button who often beats the crap out of Speedy or Guido (and Bad Bird to an extent) everytime they say or do something she doesn't agree with.
  7. VideoGame.Saiko No Sutoka: Doing just about anything other than staying in the office at the start (Normal/Hard/Yangire), standing still while she's calm (Normal/Hard), or following her orders (Yandere) will result in her flying into a homicidal rage.
    • Shutting doors in her face causes her to threaten you regardless of what mode she's in. In alpha v.2.1, you can now lock yourself in a room, but she will kick the door down and forcefully barge in after pleading with you several times while in her docile state, thus eliminating that ability to evade Saiko.
    • She also doesn't like it when you push her to the ground or shake her off your back.
    • She doesn’t appreciate the player withholding keys from her or taking back keys she’s tried to steal. Notably, she will chase you down if she catches you with the exit key. If captured, she drags you to the office and decapitates you.
    • Failing the circuit breaker minigame or inputting the wrong exit code also tends to draw her ire.
    • Crouching next to Saiko causes her to believe you're looking up her skirt. If she is in Yandere state, she will immediately enter Yangire state. If she's in Yangire state, she instead breaks your neck.
    • In both Yandere and Yangire Mode, she immediately becomes murderous upon noticing you've stolen the key she has on her back, especially when she was knocked out momentarily by the brick (only during Yangire Mode).
    • In Yandere Mode, she becomes murderous once she finds out you deactivated the poison gas trap she set up in an attempt to lure Shinji by switching off the power.
    • She enters yangire state if Akira hands over her diary without the pages (which are scattered throughout the school) or with a few pages, tossing it aside as if it were garbage. She (incorrectly) assumes Akira deliberately ripped out the pages. The dev stated that it was Shinji who pasted the diary's pages on random locations throughout the school just to humiliate Saiko. On the flip side, she does go cuckoo if Akira doesn't hand over the diary.

Anger at Threat/Harm to Loved Ones (21/172)
  1. Fanfic.Skeletons In The Closet: Sunil snaps when Irene threatens to go after his friends
  2. Characters. The Smurfs Allies: Try to harm Peewit, and be prepared to fave Biquette's wrath.
  3. Characters.Grimm Tales:
    • (Zane Grimm) Threatening or insulting his friends is not going to end well for you.
    • (Jason Stark) Threatening Zane is guaranteed to set him off.
  4. Fanfic.Sleepless: Hurting her daughter is Berry Punch's one. It doesn't end well for Vinyl. Another example is in the ZCE folder.
  5. Series.Billions:
    • When Bobby finds out another parent drove his sons home while drunk, he jumps out of the pool and drives all the way to the man's house to punch him in the face while still wearing nothing but his swimming trunks.
    • Putting Wendy in legal jeopardy is also a big one for Axe. After Ari Spyros backstabs Wendy by leaking her Ice Juice short to Bryan Connerty, Bobby is livid with Ari and decides to form a temporary alliance with Chuck to thwart Bryan's prosecution.
  6. Characters.Transformers Film Series Autobots:
    • Don't you dare harm any human in front of him, especially humans who are particularly close to him. He WILL scare the crap out of you, like what he did to Sector Seven, who kidnapped Sam and Mikaela. Or beat you senseless, like what he did to Megatron, Starscream and Grindor when they captured Sam and tried to get his brain. He destroys the Fallen, who was endangering the whole human race, and brutally cleaves Megatron's head in half and then uses the latter's gun to blow Sentinel Prime's head off for slaughtering thousands of people and several of his friends.
    • Changed in Age of Extinction. With humanity indiscriminately killing Autobots, Ratchet being the most recent casualty, it takes all of his self control to stop him from killing every human in sight. To his credit, he doesn't go destroying city blocks like the Decepticons, and directs his rage at those who are responsible for or are accomplices to the betrayal. Furthermore, attempting to harm the Yeagers in his vicinity pretty much ends badly for anyone who tries it, particularly Attinger and Lockdown.
    • All in all, whether they be humans who help him, fellow Cybertronians, or anything in between, if he considers them his allies, and you harm them, it doesn't matter who you are or where you go to escape him, because he's coming for you.
  7. Characters.Duke Nukem: (Duke Nukem) Women being attacked is perhaps the one thing that makes Duke truly angry, as evidence by this quote in Forever:
Duke: Not my babes! NOT in my town! You alien motherfuckers are gonna pay for this!
  8. Fanfic.Cursed Blood: Didn't Think This Through: Ibara had a victory in her hands, having captured both Izuku and Saki with her vines. Had she just thrown both out of the arena, she would have won, which even Izuku pointed out to her. But then she decided to push her beliefs onto Izuku and tried to "help" him by "putting Saki's soul to rest".
  9. Characters.Anarchy Reigns: (The Blacker Baron) More seriously, never hurt Mathilda.
  10. Men Are Tough: I Have Your Wife: A woman is kidnapped to motivate a man (it can be inverted, but that is far less common). At least in modern Western culture it's the one person he's publicly sworn to give a damn about above all others, so his foe's choice is well made (or sometimes not, as the case may be).
  11. Rant Inducing Slight: In Facing the Future Series, Danny is furious when Walker attacks Maddie in a blind rage after his portal generator is destroyed. But he snaps when Walker complains that that destruction of public property is against the rules.
  12. Characters.Puella Magi Madoka Magica Homura Akemi: If you mess with Madoka in any way, she will drop her cool to stop you with lots of firepower.
  13. Characters.Gangsta:
    • It's heavily implied that he killed the entire Arcangelo family and attacked the Monroe family single-handedly solely because they severely harmed Worick.
    • Don't hurt Nina or his clinic. A ZCE, but I think it fits here.
  14. Film.Hell Or High Water: Hamilton's pretty jovial and wise-cracking until Alberto gets shot in the head by Tanner in the final firefight. Cue Roaring Rampage of Revenge with the help of one of the locals.
  15. VideoGame.Luigis Mansion Dark Moon: During the Three Sisters fight, if you try to stun a member of the trio who is looking into her mirror (instead of the one who lifts it away and becomes vulnerable), her sisters will attack you.
  16. VideoGame. The Adventure Of Hourai High School: Most characters has a special person who, when defeated in battle, will make them Turn Red. For your character, it's whoever you invest the most relationship points into.
  17. VideoGame. The Forest: Killing a female cannibal will drive all nearby males into a killing frenzy.
  18. FanficRecs.Fate Stay Night: While the story is so far still quite short (Saber has yet to leave the Inquisitorial base), the crossover seems to be done well. Her interactions with the Radicals are certainly in-character, and the confusion and misunderstanding of the Radicals leads to a situation where diplomatic connections break down. And then they think she wants to possess someone, and try and give her her tortured Master as a Daemonhost.
  19. Headscratchers.A New Hope: Anakin has a Berserk Button about losing family.
  20. ShipTease.Anime And Manga: One Piece: If there's one big contender for Luffy/Nami, it's Sanji/Nami aka SaNa going way back to their initial meeting which for Sanji was literally Love at First Sight Nami even plays along with it being The Tease and getting free meals out of it. In Arlong Park he stops Zoro from attacking her and when he hears Nami's past Sanji declares he'll "beat Arlong to death" but Nojiko stops him. Hurting or insulting Nami becomes a Berserk Button for Sanji from then on (overlapping with Always Save the Girl), as Kuroobi found out when he bad-mouthed her to his cost.
  21. Series.Married With Children: While the entire family would frequently ridicule each other, if anyone else hurt them or took advantage of them, they'd make them pay.

    Mildly Upset (2/172)
  1. Fanfic.Path To Munchies: After Contessa returns from successfully removing her power's restrictions on what it could plan around by getting it to bud off another parahuman, Eidolon realises that it means that there's a second person with access to the Path to Victory and they may need to silence her if necessary. Contessa makes it clear to him with a single Death Glare that that's not going to happen.
  2. Funny.Spider Man Into The Spider Verse: Spider-Ham: [in an offended tone] You got a problem with cartoons? Has another example in the Not Disproportionate folder, and another in the Only Triggered Once folder.

    Anger Isn't Disproportionate (21/172)
  1. Characters.A Subtle Knife: She outright blows her top at Wally when the speedster declares Edge cannot be trusted because of his supervillain father. It hit quite uncomfortably close to home, after all.
  2. Funny.Spider Man Into The Spider Verse: When the hero-bad guy fight erupts in her living room, all Aunt May can see is her house getting smashed up. So she grabs a bat and starts whacking on the baddies to get them out of her house. During the split-screen shots of Aunt May noticing all the damage that the villains are causing to her house, the final split screen consists of Spider-Ham smashing a plate on his own head. Has another example in the Mildly Upset folder, and another in the Only Triggered Once folder.
  3. Headscratchers.Grand Theft Auto IV: Niko's Berserk Button is getting betrayed by others, and most players probably can't help but empathize with him after awhile.
  4. WMG.Jem: One could argue that Jerrica never called him on the "cheating" because she was afraid she'd inadvertently out herself, but that doesn't explain why Rio felt so comfortable talking about his feelings about Jem to Jerrica. The poly theory also neatly skirts the number one problem with the "Rio knew Jem was Jerrica all along" theories, which is that Rio's Berserk Button is fraud/deception; polyamory is about open, honest communication between partners. It would explain why no one in universe seemed to bring up the fact that he was ostensibly dating two women at once.
  5. Recap.Camp Camp S 2 E 12 Parents Day: Buzz Aldrin, Space Kid's uncle, found out about the fake moon landing Gwen and David staged, and he is pissed.
  6. Characters. To Kill A Mockingbird: (Scout) Bad-mouthing Atticus. It gets the better of her even when she's trying to be a proper lady and not start fights, as her response to her cousin calling Atticus a "nigger-lover" is to immediately and viciously punch him in the face. She doesn't even know what the phrase means, but it sounded like an insult and that was enough.
  7. Film. How The Grinch Stole Christmas: The Grinch actually starts to enjoy being involved in the Christmas celebrations... until he opens his gift to find an electric razor, a bad joke that triggers his deep-seated childhood rage, increased when Augustus proposes to Martha right in front of him.
  8. Characters.Aladdin: (Jasmine)
    • Being used for someone's personal gain. She nearly strangles Abis Mal in the TV series for this and it is also the source of her famous line in the first film "I am not a prize to be won". This is why she turns away all her suitors; because she knows they're just intending to use her to gain political power.
    • She doesn't appreciate anyone trying to make a move on her man either.
  9. Film.Stargate: To O'Neil, untrained kids handling firearms. Understandably. Entry itself implies the reaction isn't disproportionate.
  10. ThrowItIn.Video Games: Grand Theft Auto V had its key actors perform many cutscenes with motion capture suits on and delivering dialogue live (leading to the realism of the CGI). In one sequence, Steven Ogg, the voice and mo-capper was supposed to vault over a low fence but he goofed and tripped over instead, causing the actor playing Franklin, Shawn Fonteno, to break into laughter. Rather than cutting the scene, Steven Ogg proceeded to deliver an epic (and somewhat scary) angry rant, in character, that was considered so good (along with Fonteno wisely also staying in character) that it was incorporated into the cutscene as it appeared in the game.note
  11. Not Using the "Z" Word: Fallout 3 hosts a form of radioactive human mutants called "Ghouls" in the post-WWIII nuclear wasteland, coming in intelligent, civilized and mindless, flesh-eating (but god, not slow) and arm-chewing forms. Because of the latter form, people keep calling the intelligent ones zombies, leading to situations where uttering the Z-word around normal Ghouls is about as smart as removing the safety pin on a hand grenade and not throwing.
  12. Fanfic.Embers Vathara:
    • Lying, for Zuko and dragons/dragon-descended firebenders in general. Given that dragons communicate with emotions and pictures, (canon examples include Fang touching Aang with a whisker to give him visions, as well as Ran and Shao's rainbow fire), not words, most likely only psychopathic 'dark' dragons would be able to manage it, and Azula lies as easily as she breathes, without feeling any emotions about it as far as Toph can tell. If the ability to lie meant someone was evil in some species, it'd start ringing instinctive alarm bells very, very quickly.
    • Being told to give up his katana is one for Langxue. It belonged to his dead mother and in Kyoshi island, it is considered a woman's weapon, anyone that told him to give it up ended on the receiving end of a teenage waterbender's ire. Aang also tells Langxue to give up his sword because as an airbender he can't use weapons. It ticks of Langxue, who up to that point had been trying to convince Zuko to give Aang another chance. After that little discussion Langxue fully agrees with Zuko that Aang is an idiot and a brat and angrily tells Iroh that he will not be teaching Aang anything. This might be compounded by the fact that Langxue was once a water-fire yaoren as Hyourin and to a child of fire it would be unthinkable not to take up a weapon.
  13. Characters.Professor Layton: (Flora) Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She seems to have an intense fear of being left alone. It gets the Woobie treatment in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, but Professor Layton and the Unwound Future makes it seem more like a Berserk Button. (Maybe she thought they should have caught on by then that she's afraid to be alone.)
  14. Characters.Kill La Kill Ryuko Matoi: She can't stand perverted guys, and will beat them up the first chance she gets, seen during her first run-in with Barazo, which sees her guarding his own daughter against him with her scissor blade. Mikisugi's stripping also really seems to set her off, though this is mostly Played for Laughs. She can't stand Mikisugi's penchant for unbuttoning his shirt, and this persists post-series.
  15. Characters.Granblue Fantasy Allies: (Adam) Do not talk shit about the Erste royal family in his presence, and especially do not talk shit about Queen Orchis within range of his hearing, much less to his face. When confronting a pair of conspirators who helped Freesia kidnap Orchis during the early Dawning Sky arc, he was a step away from his Rage Breaking Point before the crew managed to calm him down.
  16. Showing Up Chauvinists: In Barbie and the Three Musketeers, Barbie/Corinne sets off to become a musketeer but is mocked for her dreams by several who believe a girl can't be a musketeer, which angers her. She and her three friends end up proving them wrong by defeating the villain, Philippe, who attempts to kill his cousin, the prince. At the end, the prince becomes king and the four heroines become royal musketeers.
  17. Characters.Anchor Foal (1): Paedophiles. The instant that Fleur detects somebody has had active sexual relationships with an underaged partner, that somebody is going to die.
  18. VideoGame.Ib: In an odd example, the gallery itself freaks out when Garry first pulls out his lighter. Fire remains a touchy subject for the whole game, as it's pretty much the only thing that can kill its residents.
    • Mary in particular seems to really detest the lighter, which is sort of justified as it's the only thing you can use to kill her. If Ib has it in the "Together, Forever" ending and in the "Welcome to the World of Guertena" ending, Mary confiscates it and throws it away.
  19. VideoGame.Life Is Strange 2: In Episode 1, if the player decides to question Daniel or confront Brett, Brett insults Sean about his absent mother or his Mexican origin respectfully, which immediately angers up Sean enough to punch Brett right in the face.
  20. VideoGame. The Boogie Man: The Boogie Man does this to multiple characters using the information he has about them.
    • He causes Mr. Grundler to become even more upset after Sophie goes missing by mentioning his now dead wife.
    • He enrages David by mentioning his now dead mother.
  21. VideoGame.Sonic 3 And Knuckles: The second stage of Death Egg Zone Act 1's boss, Red Eye, seems to have one: it will start spinning a pair of spiked platforms extremely rapidly while firing off a massive laser beam if you attack it.
  22. ComicBook.ABC Warriors: Insulting Mongrol's creator, Lara, is a good way to get him to go into a berserker frenzy.

    Other/Multiple Misuses (17/172)
  1. Team Switzerland: Team Switzerland is defined like the country it takes its name from: a completely neutral ground. Traits that can be found in Team Switzerland are neutrality and logic. The members are the voices of reason that are sometimes ignored. But even when pushed to the limit by the insanity surrounding them, they know how to keep their cool. They refuse to take sides, but unlike The Starscream or Wild Card, they're not in it for selfish motivations or the ultimate redemption. Seems like it wants to be Beware the Nice Ones instead.
  2. WebVideo.Angry German Kid: Mostly Unreal Tournament failing to load and crashing. Leopold also smashes his keyboard one more time at the end when it's implied he got killed again. Triggered Once in the case of the original video, Hair-Trigger Temper when speaking of the parodies.
  3. Manhua.Moshi Fanren: Do not call Tianchen fatherless. He also shows no mercy to those who backstab him. A ZCE, but it's also not all that unreasonable.
  4. Restraining Bolt: Some people, especially those in unusually high-stress situations, tend to develop a restraining bolt of sorts over time as a way to keep their Berserk Button from working normally. Whether that item is an inanimate object, a person, a pet, or something known only to them varies from one person to the next. However, removing that bolt is a very good way to get them to come down on you.
  5. Characters.Andys Apple Farm: (Margaret) Clicking her sprite twice during her minigame results in her disappearing until you clear it.
  6. PietaPlagiarism.Video Games: Notably, in the Japanese version, the female torso and head floating behind Kefka was named "Maria", as in "Mary", as opposed to the western translations in which she was named "Girl" or "Lady" depending on the console version. (Quite obviously to avoid pushing any berserk buttons, although Lady could very well be taken from Madonna note , an appellation for the Virgin Mary.) Just barely a ZCE and isn't referring to an individual, and is only hypothetical anyway, so not sure where else to put this.
  7. Recap.I Carly S 02 Ep 07 I Christmas: Carly flips when she finds out Nevel is her boyfriend in the alternate universe if Spencer was born normal. Triggered Once, plus Nevel is a jerk, her Arch-Enemy, and a Stalker with a Crush towards her, so her reaction is justified.
  8. Rage Breaking Point: Naruto:
    • When Naruto learns of the harm he can cause by using the Nine-Tail's power to the point where he can't even control himself, he restrains his anger to avoid transforming again. After what seems like a month or so, his beloved mentor Jiraiya is killed, his village is destroyed while he is away, and his teacher Kakashi has died from overuse of chakra. All have been caused by one guy, Pain. Naruto goes to defeat Pain with his new power, but is quickly brought down. Hinata tries to attack Pain after she sincerely confesses her love to Naruto, but after a brief fight, Pain stabs her. Believing her to be killed, Naruto, now filled with rage, gives himself to the very power that harmed his comrades before...but it also, for the first time, scared Pain because he suddenly found that even his vaunted power was as nothing against the terrifying power of the Nine-Tails. By the time Naruto finally came back out of it, Pain was not as confident as before. Rage-Breaking Point and Loved One Harmed.
  9. Characters.Psychonauts Psychonauts: (Bob Zanotto) When Raz first finds Bob in the greenhouse, he mentions Truman, Ford, and Helmut's names in rapid succession. Bob's response is to snap that those men are all dead and have his vines throw Raz out. (Triggered Once and Bad Mood, since he's struggling with depression during this scene.)
  10. Index Button: Trigger causes subject to react with anger. Does not specify that it must be a recurring and minor/trivial trigger.
  11. Hatred Tropes: When you hate something so much it makes you angry. See above.
  12. Character Reaction Index: Something very particular that makes a character go off like a firecracker. Also see above.
  13. Characters. The Last Guardian: Initially even seeing the guards is one by itself but as he and the boy grow closer to each other attacking his companion triggers him too. ZCE-ish, and the second part isn't disproportionate.
  14. Fanfic.Rocket To Insanity: Pinkie Pie offering Rainbow Dash cupcakes acts as this for Rainbow Dash, which ends very badly for Pinkie. ZCE, Triggered Once, and the offering accidentally triggered memories of a recurring traumatic nightmare.
  15. VideoGame.Mad Father: Aya's father after Aya learns the truth about her mother's death and her father's intent to make her into a doll. This leads to her father chasing after a terrified Aya with his chainsaw. This is not a Berserk Button so much as Alfred revealing his true nature to his daughter and going murderously insane.
    • Aya has one regarding stealing her mother's things. At first Aya's terrified of Ines, one of the game's reawakened dead, but the moment she realizes Ines has stolen her mother's perfume, all of Aya's fear for her instantly disappears and Aya jumps at her to reclaim it. Not Disproportionate, Triggered Once, and improper indentation.
  16. VideoGame.Super Mario 64: Wiggler has two: getting him and his place all wet, and stomping on him.
Wiggler: [after stomping him the first time] I can't take this anymore! First you get me all wet, then you stomp on me! Now I'm really, really, REALLY mad! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
    [you stomp on him again]
Wiggler: Hey! Knock it off! That's the second time you've nailed me. Now you're asking for it, linguine breath!
  17. Characters.Zatch Bell: (Tia/Tio) When people look at her panties. It was enough to awaken her strongest attack spell, which is completely fueled by anger and hate. Character is noted as being short-tempered and not disproportionate.

    Unsure (6/172)
  1. Webcomic.Muted: Don't light any fires around Camille, she will wander off into the swamp to fume about you.
  2. Characters.Squid Game: (Ji-yeong) Fairly downplayed since she doesn't get very emotional, but it's clear that she hates the mention of religion and lashes out at the pastor for praying during the Tug-of-War game. You later come to find out that her father was a pastor who would pray after raping her.
  3. Characters. The Dark Crystal Skeksis: (Emperor skekSo) The topic of death. Specifically, his death. He flies into a rage whenever someone warns or even hints that he is fated to die.
  4. Characters.Metroid Ridley: Samus is his as much as he is Samus'. When he meets her as an adult in the manga decades after his disastrous raid on Colony K-2L and realizes who she is, his immediate response is to grab her by the face and begin to savagely beat her while she's in the throes of PTSD. It's implied to be a matter of pride on his kill record, as Ridley proclaims that her mere existence offends him even in his dreams. His anger is by no means warranted and kinda disproportionate given that he's mad because Samus keeps beating him, when he starts all their fights. Also, he wouldn't count for Samus because he killed her parents, which means her anger towards him is justified.
  5. Advanced Education with Viktor Strobovski: Applied to almost every character in the game, apart from a few who either don't have a button to start with (apart from seeing you), or who aren't enemies at all. Most of them are caused by the curse, which means that in reality they're just waiting for your imminent failure to happen, so it can prey on the characters' internal annoyance and amplify it into bloodlust.
    • Viktor is the obvious example, working almost exactly like Baldi. However, it's later revealed that he's doing it for fun, especially during the extra notebook chase sequence where you're required to get all of the answers right, although the last one is possible this time, meaning he knew the other examples were impossible all along.
    • Marzia is the most extreme example, yelling over the top of her lungs, despite moving slowly in the beginning.
    • Do not break the school rules in school too many times, or the Head Teacher will eventually take you to be executed a violent death, while pulling out all the stops to make you suffer during the escort.
    • Also, don't neglect Mr. Mix, or he'll do the same thing to you before he throws you into a cauldron.
  6. VideoGame.Vanguard Princess: Lilith really hates it when people don't believe her when she says that she's a demon and the daughter of Satan.

    ZCEs (74/172)
  1. Mash.Tropes A To I:
    • Don't tell Hawkeye they're serving liver and fish in the mess tent yet again.
    • Don't even suggest that B.J. would ever cheat on his wife.
    • Whatever you do, don't ever, ever ever insult the state of Iowa within earshot of Radar.
    • Don't even think of telling latter-seasons Margaret that women aren't as tough/smart/worthy/whatever as men. Particularly don't suggest that she's somehow not a real major.
      • Point of fact, don't even think about evacuating the nurses for safety, even in an extreme crisis situation.
    • Don't insult people who stutter in front of Charles. Also don't sell the chocolate bars he donated to your orphanage on the black market. Unless you have a very good reason.
    • Don't talk about people eating horses in front of Potter.
    • Don't deny Father Mulcahy his promotion...four times. Don't insult the Irish. Don't interrupt his bath. Don't replace his bathrobe with a flowery nightgown. Don't steal from Hawkeye. Don't be Charles Winchester. Just...don't.
    • Don't you dare ruin one of Klinger's dresses.
  2. DisproportionateRetribution.Advertising: Do not park in the reserved parking space of the SSI Shredders president. "Get the memo yet, hippie?"
  3. Blog.Spongey 444: Abrupt/Rushed Endings, to the point where he will comment on the ending in most reviews.
  4. Characters.Boruto Boruto Uzumaki: He does not like the Hokage title, job, or anything to do with it. Instead, he would rather pass the Hokage title to Sarada in the upcoming future.
  5. Characters.Missions Of Love: Mentioning Shigure directly towards him.
  6. Characters.Land Of Oz (Dorothy Gale): Has another example in the Correct folder.
    • Don't mess with her silver slippers. Exclusive to the first book.
    • Don't threaten her dog.
  7. Funny.SF Debris Star Trek Deep Space Nine: In his review of "Paradise", Chuck loses it after it's revealed the head of the anti-technology commune has been ruling through tyranny, deception, and lies... and the rest of the group decides to maintain their community, not showing the slightest bit of outrage that they were being dicked with.
  8. Characters.Law And Order Special Victims Unit Other Characters: Berserk Button: Slut-Shaming and having the Disposable Sex Worker mentality.
  9. ComicBook. The Scrameustache: Has another example in the Correct folder.
    • Seriously Khena, don't ever insult Iridia's father in front of her.
    • And the Galaxians should know better than to annoy Uncle Georges.
  10. UsefulNotes.Australian Accent: Picture (so to speak) the fair dinkum (honest-to-god), prawn-barbieing (we don't call them shrimp!), dingo-complaining, ute-driving, bushwacking Australian accent of Steve Irwin and Paul Hogan, as well as the former Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.
  11. Regional Speciality: Never call the liquor a gravy. Apparently that's a Berserk Button.
  12. Fanfic.A Shadow Of The Titans: Gadjo has several that he lists at one point: zombies, his brother, people who damage pie, and people who send him text messages. Has another example in Hair Trigger Temper folder.
  13. Literature. The Treachery Of Beautiful Things: Jenny, when she realizes that Jack lied to her. Commented out ZCE
  14. Characters.Fairy Tail Redux Salamanders Time Traveling Escapades When They Cry:
  15. Fanfic.Sleepless: Also, suggesting Berry that Ruby hates her. Has another example in the Anger at Threat/Harm to Loved Ones folder.
  16. RealMenWearPink.Anime And Manga, about JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The page image is Josuke Higashikata and his Stand Crazy Diamond. Crazy Diamond is largely pink with a heart motif and the power to restore things, and Josuke, with his gentle nature and focus on his clothes and hairdo, is arguably the girliest Jojo, even more so than Jolyne. He's absolutely no slouch in combat (which you will learn firsthand if you insult said hairdo) and his healing abilities are a large factor in why his part ends with the fewest casualties of any part so far. Pothole
  17. ScrewThisImOuttaHere.Video Games, about JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle: Johnny and Gyro both ride horses in battle, but can switch between mounted and unmounted. If they insult Part 4 Josuke's hair while mounted, they're automatically switched to unmounted. Or to put it another way, their horses make a run for it. Pothole
  18. Characters. One Piece New World, Caesar Clown: Saying his experiments failed, Vegapunk in general, and saying that he's dumb.
  19. ComicBook.Walter Melon: Papa Talon losing his beer.
  20. DarthWiki.Tisasura:
  21. Characters.Danganronpa Another: Insulting her intellect. Just ask Kinji.
  22. Characters.Magical Drop: Do not treat her like an old lady. Amusingly, this is one trait she shares with her unofficial rival Empress.
  23. Website.Inside The Box:
    • Don't ever recommend a game of Zombicide to Hana.
    • As for Jack, it's blatantly making a move in a game that screws him over.
  24. ThisBites.Tropes R To T: In Chapter 39, Jabra deliberately stomps on Luffy's Berserk Button and has just long enough to think "I just fucked up." before Luffy gives him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
  25. Recap.Ninjago S 2 E 16 Double Trouble: Just a quote with no other context.
Evil!Jay: "You can't defeat us that easily! By the way, did I mention that I kissed Nya?"
    Jay: "WHAT? You did WHAT?!"
  26. Manga.Dengeki Daisy: Do. Not. Mess. With. Teru. Kurosaki will get angry, and you won't like it.
  27. Literature. The Name Of The Wind:
    • God help you if you do anything that can be interpreted as possibly harmful to the books in the Archive around the normally-unflappable Lorren.
    • Kvothe, toward insults to his Edema Ruh heritage. (Pretending to be Edema Ruh is more of a murder button.)
    • Bast, toward disrespect to Kvothe.
  28. GoAnimate.Tropes Specific A To F: As Rosie learned the hard way, don't you EVER call Bubbles a wimpy butt.....
  29. EvilIsSexy.Film: The Princess and the Frog: Doctor Facilier. Not only was he a villain with the same sheer coldness, style and refined composition (at least on the surface) as Maleficent and on top of that, he's voiced by Keith David's smooth, smooth bass.
  30. Pantheon.Probability: (Wanda Maximoff) Is currently awaiting for her brother Pietro to join soon. Oh, and please, don't mention to her their treatment in the Ultimate Universe.
  31. DarthWiki.Hetalia Emblem: Butt-Monkey:
  32. ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill.Anime And Manga: Lyrical Nanoha: Victoria Dahlgruen demonstrates this during one of her battles when her opponent's cheap tactics finally wear out her patience, finishing them off with a brutal 2-hit combo.
  33. Theatre.Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead: Don't talk to Guildenstern about death. Especially if you're an actor.
  34. Characters.Aggretsuko: (Karen) Flips out once she got the idea that Ton has been mistreating his underlings. See A Shared Suffering.
  35. Characters. All Grown Up: (Principal Estes Pangborn) Tell him you don't like his poetry.
  36. AmazonChaser.Anime And Manga: While not as pointed out or commented on (usually), Rock of Black Lagoon seems to be more than happy to be around Revy during the later parts of the series. Just don't ever point this out around the latter, even if you are a "friend".
  37. DeathByAdaptation.Fan Works: In the original Sword Art Online, Rosalia was simply arrested for her crimes. Here, her neck is sliced by a very pissed off Kirito after she pressed all of his Berserk Buttons.
  38. Corky Romano: Paulie is very sensitive about the fact that he can't read.
  39. A Beast in Name and Nature: Men in Black 3 has a variant with the Big Bad's nickname "Boris the Animal," which he hates ("It's just Boris!").
  40. Adaptational Jerkass: The Marvelous World Of DC:
    • In modern Marvel comics, Doctor Doom is depicted as a fair ruler to his people, and very even-minded and respectful towards most of Marvel's heroes-apart from Reed Richards, obviously.
  41. Characters.Mario The Music Box Residents: No one, and we mean no one, must know of her feelings for Marchionne except for Marchionne himself, and she kills Mario over him discovering it himself.
  42. Manga.Ai Kora:
    • Mess with the girls in Maeda's harem at your own risk.
    • Don't insult the Ninja Way around Kirino.
  43. Characters.Sleepaway Camp: (Ricky) Anybody picking on Angela.
  44. Characters.Corpse Party Blood Covered: (Naho Saenoki) Does not like when people ask personal questions.
  45. Minor Insult Meltdown: The Fifth Act has Sephiroth trying to goad Cloud into a fight, since he's been ignoring him since he showed up at ShinRa. So he makes fun of Cloud's passionless compliance by calling him a puppet. This causes Cloud to go ballistic and he attacks Sephiroth in rage, forcing Genesis and Angeal to break them up before they kill someone.
  46. Pantheon.Classical Mythology: Tartarus, The Unholy Protogenoi Of The God's Prison (The Pit, Tartaros, Protogenos of the Abyss, The Pit of Evil, Father of the Gigantes, Stinking Pit, Erebus, Erebos, God of the Abyss, Grandfather of all Monsters) as an Overdeity in the Hall of Wardening (House of Justice)
  47. Series.Adventures In Wonderland: Do NOT imply the Caterpillar's stories aren't original unless you want to face his wrath.
  48. Funny. The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy: Shortly afterward, Grim is put in jail with a gruff inmate...whose Berserk Button is the sound of farting!
  49. Funny. The Gray Garden: When Emalf pushes Macarona's Berserk Button. Macarona goes APESHIT on Emalf and we're treated to an audio-only No-Holds-Barred Beatdown where we can clearly hear Emalf screaming like a little girl.
  50. Characters.Middle Earth Film Smaug:
    • Don't insult his greatness.
    • Don't try to steal from him either.
    • Don't mention Black Arrows, the one thing he fears that can pierce through his hide and possibly kill him either.
    • Don't mention that missing scale...
Bilbo: So it is true... the Black Arrow found its mark.
Smaug: (whips around to face him) What did you say?!
  51. Characters.Melty Blood: (Sion Eltnam Atlasia) Implying that she has been careless annoys her.
  52. Characters.Megamind: (Hal Stewart)
    • He really doesn't like being compared to Metro Man.
    • He hates being tricked and made a fool of — as well as being informed that it was his own doing.
  53. Characters.Chowder: (Chowder) Don't you dare suggest he has something going on with Panini.
  54. WesternAnimation.Cars 2: Saying that Lightning McQueen isn't fast enough is a very, very, very, very, VERY horrible idea, as Francesco Bernoli learned the hard way.
  55. WesternAnimation.Fanboy And Chum Chum: Fannahilator goes berserks if Super Chum calls anyone besides him his "Best Nemesis Forever".
  56. WebVideo.Danganronpa Parody: Same as the original, Kyoko with anything regarding her father. Makoto keeps pushing it.
  57. WebAnimation.Sonic Villains: Sonic is this for most of the villains (except for Orbot and Cubot), Rosy and Eggman especially.
  58. Manga.Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken: Cool, but Inefficient: A lot of Eizouken girls' interactions with the Robot Club involve the idea that using a giant humanoid robot for military purposes isn't very practical, since humanoid robots lack the stability, profile, and armor of something like a tank, and any culture that could build giant robots suitable for combat would probably be better off building better tanks. This is part of why they don't see a reason why the robot can't have a more fantastical bent to it (after all, it's already a bit unrealistic). It's also a Berserk Button for the head of the robot club.
  59. WebVideo.Sword Art Online Abridged: Tranquil Fury: Kirito can lapse into this in a more level-headed and sane mindset, though pushing one or more of his Berserk Buttons will cause him to go Laughing Mad.
  60. Recap.TTC 12192018 Irish People Try Reeses Peanut Butter Candy: Dermot and George don't like peanut butter (Dermot will even rant about it). Now... what are they trying in this video?
  61. Characters.Pokemon Elite Four: (Malva) You seem to be one for her, as she frequently comments on how she'd like nothing better than to burn you up on the spot.
  62. VideoGame.Advanced Variable Geo: For Jun, it's her old nickname of "Bonecrusher"; although prior to Advanced V.G. 2, she also had an extreme distaste for Americans. For Erina, it's people who discriminate against her because she is American.
  63. Characters.Anchor Foal (2): Accidentally sets off one of Twilight's during their first meeting. Harem was apparently unaware of her existence as an alicorn and asks if she's an Original Character.
  64. NiceGuy.Pokemon:
    • Tracey, who replaced Brock for one half-season, is the embodiment of this trope. He's so polite and mild-mannered that many viewers write him off as bland and uninteresting. He Lampshades it in one side episode — after being pressured by Misty's oldest sister to clean the Gym, he's seen with a push broom and a sad expression, saying "Sometimes it doesn't pay to be the nice guy." (Just don't insult Professor Oak in front of him.)
    • And then there's Luke who is one of the nicest of Ash's rivals/friends who doesn't insult him. His nice guy attitude is how he's able to put up with Bianca's quirks but even he has his limits.
  65. WesternAnimation.Extreme Ghostbusters: Don't call Eduardo a daisy. Don't use Kylie's great-grandmother as a means to attack her. Don't mess with Roland's equipment.
  66. Fanfic.Echoing Silence:
  67. Film.Gett The Trial Of Viviane Amsalem: Rabbi Shlomo, the head of the court, does not take having his authority and objectivity challenged, especially when asked to recuse himself.
  68. Literature.Clink Begins: Cold Chinese food.
  69. Characters.Forgotten Realms: Do not threaten Kael.
  70. Clarence.Tropes A To M: Jeff really doesn't like it when someone eats his fries. And don't break his toys.
  71. VideoGame.Battle Chess: Don't try to seduce the King if you don't mean it. And never taunt or insult the Pawn.
  72. VideoGame.Grinsia: Milka hates being called a kid.
  73. VideoGame.OFF: Do not touch the Elsens' sugar.
  74. UIN: Giving your brother the doll.
  75. LightNovel.Baccano: In a cast chock full of Ax-Crazy homicidal psychopaths, this is a no brainer. Even the nice ones are prone to have one.
