  • The Bus Came Back: The original lineup, especially for 7 out of 10 of the castaways.
  • Freudian Trio:
    • The last three members.
      • Tyson = Ego
      • Gervase = Id
      • Monica = Superego
    • The One World returnees.
      • Monica = Superego
      • Kat = Ego
      • Colton = Id
    • The Heroes vs. Villains returnees.
      • Tyson = Ego
      • Candice = Superego
      • Rupert = Id
  • Meaningful Name: "Galang" is Filipino for "respect", most likely alluding to the respect due to them out of their past history with the series.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Everyone's main goal. Averted with Aras and Tina for being past winners. Ultimately played straight by Tyson, Monica, Gervase and Laura M.
  • Older and Wiser: Everyone except Colton and possibly Kat.
  • One-Steve Limit: The tribe includes Laura Morett and Laura Boneham. Averted with Kat and Katie after the tribe shuffle.
  • Pyrrhic Victory/Shoot the Dog: As noted several times, if you win, you will have to send a loved one home.

  • Two Guys and a Girl: The last three members; Tyseon Gervase and Monica.

    Tadhana
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Most of them.
    • Ascended Extra Laura B. and Katie has previously appeared and participated in the love ones visit challenges for their loved ones' respective note  seasons. The former did it twice.
    • Early-Bird Cameo: Vytas was briefly shown in the Grand Finale of Panama after Aras was proclaimed as that season's winner.
    • The Ghost: Ciera, Brad and John were occasionally mentioned or referred to by their loved ones during their original (second for John's) seasons, but never actually appeared. According to interviews after Caleb's death, Colton's former One World castaways mentioned that he (Colton) loved talking about Caleb during their time at the game.
  • The Chew Toy: As of Episode 4, they have not won a single Immunity Challenge, even with the physical advantages.
  • Four-Girl Ensemble: The women since Laura B. was quickly eliminated but was transferred to the other tribe.
  • Generation Xerox: Katie and Ciera tried to Enforce and Invoke this in the early parts of the game, while Vytas avert, this. Marissa, on the other hand, downplayed this.
  • Lovely Angels: Ciera and Katie until the tribe shuffle.
  • Meaningful Name: "Tadhana" is Filipino for "destiny", as in "destined to be forever a part of his/her Galang counterpart's life".
  • One-Steve Limit: The tribe includes John Cody and John Broward "Brad" Culpepper.
  • Spin-Offspring: Ciera and Katie. Marissa is a variation as she's a niece of a previous castaway.
  • Pyrrhic Victory/Shoot the Dog: As noted several times, if you win, you will have to send a loved one home.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Hayden, Caleb, Brad and Rachel had significant others in the other tribe, while John's was in Redemption Island.

The Sole Survivor

    Tyson Apostol - Tocantins
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27tyson_6695.jpg

Allegiance: Galang
Born: June 17, 1979 (age 34)
From: Provo, Utah
Loved One: Rachel Foulger (Girlfriend)

Professional cyclist, alumnus of Tocantins and vs. Villains (placing 8th and 15th, respectively), and a player for Galang, opposite his girlfriend Rachel.

  • The Ace: He makes fire within 15 minutes of arriving at camp. It also helps that he is insane at challenges and has only gone to tribal council once during the pre-merge stage of the game. He's also been in complete control since the merge without winning immunity until late in the game. And he has managed to find two immunity idols without anyone else having the slightest idea.
  • Anti-Hero/Anti-Villain: Everything he has done in this game, good and bad, has been for Rachel. He also willingly takes the role of the bad guy this season.
  • Best for Last: He's skilled, but he chooses not to push himself to win immunity until the last few episodes.
  • Big Eater: Especially if it's coconuts.
  • The Big Guy: To Galang pre-shuffle.
  • Born Lucky: Tyson was on the winning tribe pre-merge and Right after using his hidden immunity idol to save his alliance mate Gervase, he finds the second hidden idol.
  • The Chessmaster: Tyson of all people is proving to be running the show as he orchestrated Aras' demise and is the only one to have hidden immunity idols and doesn't plan on telling anyone about them. In fact, he was in complete control since the merge.
  • Camp Straight: Can be seen in one scene with his arms around Aras at the campfire, cuddling with him.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Tyson beat Monica and Gervase in a 7-1-0 vote. Also true for the game in general, post merge. Anyone who tried to stop him was voted out as he dominated the strategy portion of this season.
  • Darkhorse Victory: Who thought this guy was going to make it past the merge, let alone win? When he injured his arm, people thought he'd get medically evacuated.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He exemplifies this trope during his confessionals. When talking about Aras' yoga he says that he's not really on board with Aras' beliefs in Zen.
"I don't believe in anything *beat* except magic. Magic rocks.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After two failed attempts at the game and losing his girlfriend earlier in this season, he finally won.
  • Flawless Victory: While not a No-Damage Run, he still played a very swift game.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In his previous two seasons he ended up getting blindsided. In this season? After the merge, he controls the entire game the same way Rob and Kim did.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Downplayed. While he definitely did Took a Level in Kindness, he still doesn't have qualms in hiding his snarkiness.
  • Handicapped Badass: Well, he did compete with a dislocated shoulder.
  • Genius Bruiser: Tyson has played a very clever game this season similar to Boston Rob and Kim Spradlin.
  • Griefer: He's taken the role of stealing food and supplies from his tribe with Gervase's help.
  • I Let Rachel Get Evicted: What got Tyson to breakdown and gave him the determination to take control of the game.
  • Inspirationally Disadvantaged: After he dislocates his shoulder in the Episode 3 Immunity Challenge, he still insists in competing in the next Immunity Challenge, then goes on to help his tribe win once more.
  • Keet: Has shades of this later on in the season. It's that smile of his.
  • Kick the Dog: After Katie draws the rock, he stands up as if the hug her, then looks her in the eyes and says "Your jury seat's over there." Katie calls him out on this.
  • The Lancer: To Tadhana post-shuffle, though he's actually The Starscream.
  • Lean and Mean: When he has to be, he can have quite a mean streak. This is especially shown after the final 6 rock drawing.
  • Loveable Rogue: As the lead coconut bandit and the big bad wolf.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Tyson gets the Tadhana members on his new tribe to tell him the clues to the first hidden immunity idol, which he eventually found. Also, he forms a new alliance with said members and also convinced Monica to go against her alliance and vote out Aras. Later on, when the minority tried to sway Monica into voting with them, he always got her to do whatever he wanted in the end.
  • Manly Tears: After Rachel's elimination. He also breaks down in tears after he's announced as the winner.
  • My Greatest Third Chance: Played entirely straight. He even had two former winners voting for him!
  • Older and Wiser: He certainly learned a lot in his past two attempts.
  • Older Than He Looks: He certainly doesn't look like he's in his thirties.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Rachel's blue.
  • Sole Survivor: The 26th overall and 15th male winner of the franchise.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: The second tallest guy this season and the most snarky contestant.
  • The Starscream: Formed an alliance with Gervase to vote out Aras and succeeded.
  • Third Time's The Charm: This is his third time playing the game and finally wins.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Appears very competent compared to his first two tries. This becomes true after winning the season.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Not as mean as in previous seasons, though he's a whole lot deadlier as a player. It's hard to imagine Tyson from Tocantins, who said it was fun to watch people cry, crying over his girlfriend being eliminated.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He's very fond of eating coconuts.
  • Villain Protagonist: He takes on this role after the merge. He is, however, less villainous than the usual examples.

The Runners-Up

    Monica Culpepper - One World
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27monica_735.jpg

Allegiance: Galang
Born: June 15, 1970 (age 43)
From: Tampa, Florida
Loved One: Brad Culpepper (Husband)

Homemaker, alumna of One World (eliminated at 14th place), and a player for Galang, opposite her husband Brad.

  • Action Mom: Won three consecutive challenges in the merge.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: In stark contrast to the more chatty Brad.
  • Always Second Best: How she feels, compared to her husband the NFL player. Then, she becomes this to Tyson.
  • Butt-Monkey: Her husband receives an incredible amount of abuse during the Redemption Island, and the winners constantly give her the immunity idol clues in order to paint a target on her back. Though affiliated with Tyson, she was really just another number to most and pretty much everyone grilled her in the final council for being perceived as fake. The poor lady could not catch a break.
  • Broken Tears: Especially seen during the Final Tribal Council...although, she did receive a brunt of the grilling from the Jury.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: Attempted by the Codys. As revenge for John's elimination, they give her the clue to the Immunity Idol after John wins at Redemption Island, hoping that it will make her a target in Galang just as it made John one in Tadhana. She burns it in the fire urn on Redemption Island.
  • Happily Married: To Brad.
  • House Wife: Called a Homemaker in her profile.
  • Ms. Fanservice: You won't find many 42 year olds who look as good as she does.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Played straight. Among the One World returnees, she had the worst finish. Here, not only was she the only one of the three to make the merge, but she managed to win the most individual challenges with three, make it to the finals and finished in second.
  • Older Than She Looks: During filming, she was 42.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Brad's red.
  • Revenge by Proxy: People were not particularly fond of Brad and they used her to get to him.
  • The Rival: She and her husband to the Codys, though their rivalry with John is more civil than with Candice.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Tyson, who she's voted with during every single Tribal Council thus far. When Hayden brings it up, he's promptly voted out.
  • Wild Card: Tyson and Gervase had several confessionals worrying about whether or not Monica's state of mind would ultimately fuck them over. Fortunately for them, it didn't.

    Gervase Peterson - Borneo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27gervase_6234.jpg

Allegiance: Galang
Born: November 2, 1969 (age 43)
From: Philedalphia, Pennsylvania
Loved One: Marissa Peterson (Niece)

Cigar shop owner, alumnus of Borneo, the very first season (eliminated at 7th place), and a player for Galang, opposite his niece Marissa.

  • Call-Back:
  • Cool Uncle: Downplayed.
  • The Bus Came Back: It most certainly did for Gervase, seeing as he hasn't played in 13 years. It was the longest gap between seasons for any contestant, until his Borneo castmate Kelly Wiglesworth returned in Cambodia.
  • History Repeats: The second alumni from the inaugural season to finish 3rd, the first being his former Pagong tribemate Jenna Lewis in All-Stars.
    • Also, the gross food challenge: just like in Borneo, he was forced to eat grubs, and once again, his squeamishness was his downfall.
  • Large Ham: His post-challenge victory celebrations, reactions at the food challenge, and voting confessional for Hayden say it all.
    • This came back to bite him twice. The first time, his over-the-top reactions resulted in his niece being voted off first. The second time, his antics (post-merge) rubbed the jury the wrong way, resulting with him receiving zero votes in the finale.
  • The Load: He struggles with swimming in the first challenge (sound familiar?).
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Played straight. Though he didn't received any votes in the end and finished 3rd, he is the first Borneo alumni to make it to the final tribal council in their second attempt at the gamenote .
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Gloating after winning gets his niece voted offnote .
  • Number Two: To Tyson.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Throughout the season his challenge strength, especially swimming ability, improves drastically.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: By rubbing Galang's win in the first Immunity Challenge in the faces of Tadhana, he essentially sealed his niece Marissa's fate and caused her tribe to vote her off first.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: His reaction at having to eat grubs again, 13 years after his original notorious encounter with them.
  • Older Sidekick: He is ten years older than Tyson.
  • Older Than He Looks: It's been 13 years since he first played, yet he barely looks any older.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Marissa's blue.

The Jury

Tina Wesson - The Australian Outback
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27tina_8285.jpg

Allegiance: Galang
Born: December 26, 1960 (age 52)
From: Robbinsville, North Carolina
Loved One: Katie Collins (Daughter)

Motivational speaker, winner of of The Australian Outback and first boot of All-Stars, and a player for Galang, opposite her daughter Katie.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Shipping her daughter. On national TV. On a popular global Reality Show, no less. Katie probably screamed at home when that confessional aired.
  • Back From Elimination: Won the post-merge Redemption Island challenges.
  • Brutal Honesty: At the final five, she goes up to Monica and starts talking shit to her in attempt to convince her to switch. Ciera is not happy with that.
  • Chewing the Scenery: In her first elimination.
  • Cool Old Lady: The first female and the second overall winner of the franchise, Ladies and Gentlemen.
  • Competition Freak: Both herself and her daughter admit to being this.
  • Enemy Mine: Worked with Laura M. in episode 11 in order to get rid of the very competent Vytas.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: In-Universe, upon Ciera's elimination, Tina was the favorite to win it all, until she was booted.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Laura M. on Redemption Island.
  • Graceful Loser: Does both while Chewing the Scenery at the same time in her first elimination.
  • Guile Heroine: One of the series' firsts in fact.
  • History Repeats: Tina still ended up as the final something. In her original season she was the winner, hence the last one standing. In All-Stars she was last place. Here, she's the final jury member.
  • Iron Lady: She's practically the Alpha female of her tribe.
  • Lady of War: Retains her grace in challenges, regardless of the pressure.
  • The Leader: To Galang post-shuffle.
  • Mickey Mousing: During the final immunity challenge, the editors sync the music with Tina bouncing on the net.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She's bested her own daughter in multiple challenges. She also bested Laura M. in the final Redemption Island duel, to much surprise.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Technically, she was voted off before Katie, but Tina eventually beat Katie on Redemption Island and came back to the game before she was eliminated again as the last jury member. A Real Life and more tragic example would be the death of her son (via car accident) at the time this season was airing.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to her daughter's blue.
  • Shipper on Deck: For Vytas and her daughter, Katie.
  • Team Mom: She plays the motherly role on Galang.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Upon receiving the Hidden Immunity Idol clue after winning the final duel, she promptly puts it into her bra.

    Ciera Eastin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27ciera_1668.jpg
Allegiance: Tadhana
Born: July 29, 1989 (age 24)
From: Salem, Oregon
Loved One: Laura Morett (Mother)
Cosmetology student and a player for Tadhana, opposite her mother Laura.

Ciera was chosen by public vote to return the Second Chance season, Survivor: Cambodia.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Downplayed. While she can be composed, she's still sociable.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a super nice person in the game, but once she cuts her own mother's throat? Game on.
  • Breakout Character: Ciera was basically the most stand out first time player in the season and was voted back two more times because of it.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: First she votes out her mom, then she betrays the loved ones alliance only to return to them at the next vote. All in the span of three consecutive Tribal Councils.
  • Coming of Age Story: Episode 10 is pretty much Ciera having to accept the fact that she has to vote out her mom if she wants to stay in the game, which is something she never would've considered up until then.
  • The Cutie: Her tribe seems to see her as this.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Who would've thought of all people CIERA would be the one who had the best shot at winning up until Tina's return?
  • Happily Married: And with two children too.
  • Last of Her Kind: The last Tadhana/non-returning player standing in the game.
  • Leitmotif: Ciera is the only contestant this season to specifically get her own theme upon being voted out. It can be found here, and it is awesome
  • Lovely Angels: With Katie until the tribe shuffle.
  • The Millstone: Has caused her tribe to lose two Immunity Challenges at the puzzle stages, however, she later wins an individual immunity which ultimately proves she isn't the weakest player in the season.
  • Not Afraid to Die: By drawing rocks in Episode 12.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to her mom's red. She stated that it's actually the other way around in their normal life.
  • The Smurfette Principle: After the tribe shuffle, she ends up the only girl on a tribe with 5 guys (the Distaff Counterpart to Vytas).
  • Smug Smiler: After everyone was rooting for Kat, her mom beats Kat in a duel at Redemption, and Ciera smiles one of the smuggest smiles all season.
  • Spin-Offspring: Her mother is a previous contestant.
  • Teen Pregnancy: She got pregnant at 17 and kept the baby.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Katie's tomboy.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Caleb made a huge move to save her in Episode 4. She becomes the swing vote at the Final 7, and guess who she ends up taking out?

    Laura Morett - Samoa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27lauram_2931.jpg
Allegiance: Galang
Born: July 30, 1969 (age 44)
From: Salem, Oregon
Loved One: Ciera Eastin (Daughter)
Office manager, fitness instructor, alumna of Samoa (eliminated at 10th place), and a player for Galang, opposite her daughter Ciera.
  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: A variant: While she may be in her forties, she looks much younger than that and she had Ciera when she was barely in her twenties. In fact, she's also a grandmother.
  • Action Mom: She's great at challenges, and this asset of hers is cited as one of the reasons she was voted off Galang (i.e. she had a good shot at beating Brad.) Then. she goes on and wins her way back into the game, and has another winning streak before ultimately losing to Tina.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Became apparent after she was sent to Redemption Island.
  • Back From Elimination: Won the pre-merge Redemption Island challenges.
  • Enemy Mine: Helped Tina in episode 11 in order to get rid of the very competent Vytas.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Tina on her second stint in Redemption Island.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: She worked actively to keep Tina in the game during her second run on Redemption Island, only to end up getting beaten by her in the final duel.
  • Lady of War: In Redemption Island.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Her close relationship with Aras comes across as this. It may be one of the reasons she was voted out.
  • Ms. Fanservice: You won't find many 43 year olds who look as good as she does.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Ultimately, she played a much better game and finished in a much better rank compared to Samoa. Against tougher competitors, no less!
  • Never Mess with Granny: Technically a grandma despite only being 43, yet still quite capable of kicking ass in duels.
  • Nice Girl: Quite possibly the nicest character the whole season
  • One Laura Limit: Averted with Laura Boneham, though it was invoked and discussed several times.
  • Out of Focus: She hasn't gotten very much screentime until the merge.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to her daughter's blue. Ciera stated that it's the other way around in their normal life.
  • Satellite Character: She doesn't receive a lot of focus until the merge, and even then, most of it is centered around her relationship with her daughter.
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: Her tank-top has a U.S flag print in the center.
  • Younger than She Looks: At the time of filming, she was 43.

    Hayden Moss
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27hayden_5193.jpg
Allegiance: Tadhana
Born: May 27, 1986 (age 27)
From: Springtown, Texas
Loved One: Kat Edorsson (Girlfriend)
Real estate agent, winner of Season 12 of Big Brother, and a player for Tadhana, opposite his girlfriend Kat.
  • The All-American Boy: Classy, friendly, and an all around nice guy.
  • Batman Gambit: While ultimately unsuccessful, Hayden pulls off one of the tightest gambits in series history by using the white/purple rock to his advantage.
    • First, by making himself a target so he would get the three votes, therefore being safe in the purple rock tiebreaker.
    • Second, by changing the vote to Monica instead of Tyson so she would get the other three votes and also be safe. This would leave Tyson vulnerable instead so long as he didn't play his idol.
    • Third, by swinging Ciera in Tribal Council under the noses of Gervase, Tyson, and Monica, who were so confident that Tyson didn't play his idol and would be vulnerable to the rock.
    • Four, permanently removing the fourth from a four person alliance to fight with him in the future of the game.
    • Fifth, just the sheer fact that he was able to convince this group of three (the dominant force of the season, someone with many friends on the jury, and one of the more unstable players in a long time) to draw rocks while he sat in the background and watched.
      • Ultimately it didn't work because Katie would draw the rock, but had Tyson picked the rock and been taken out of the game, it would have been one of the best moves of all time. As it stands, it's still one of the most valiant attempts.
  • The Big Guy: The strongest of the guys, physically.
  • The Cassandra: Tried to get Monica to flip by claiming she was a pawn of Tyson. It backfired and he was sent to Redemption Island.
  • Crossover: The first Big Brother contestant to compete on Survivor.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He snarked at a lot of things Brad did, and still retains that snarkiness today.
  • Failure Hero: Despite his strong efforts, all of Hayden's attempts at taking over the game have failed.
  • Good Ol' Boy: He's from Texas.
  • Guile Hero: He's becoming this as of recently. He thought up a plan to blindside Tyson, who was more or less controlling the game, and managed to get Ciera on board with his alliance.
  • Heroic Build: He's well-built and a heroic contestant, with a touch of snark.
  • Identical Stranger: He bears a resemblance to J.T. as well as Malcolm. He also has a resemblance to Fabio in that his gameplay is very similar to Fabio's (befriend everybody and blindside potential threats after the merge) and that he's very good at physical challenges especially post merge.
  • I Let Kat Get Evicted: Felt guilty that he didn't trade places with Kat after she was eliminated.
  • It's Up to You: Implied by Katie's expression to him after she got rocked.
  • Keet: Energetic and fun to be around. He knows when it's time to be serious though.
  • Malaproper: Episode 12's title, "Rustle Feathers" as opposed to "Ruffle Feathers" was a line delivered by him at the episode's tribal council.
  • Manly Tears: Breaks down after finding out his girlfriend, Kat, wants to try the challenge and then again when she's evicted.
  • Mr. Fanservice: One of the handsomest guys this season along with John Cody.
  • Nice Guy: Seems to be one of the more friendly and easy going members of Tadhana. He's also a loving boyfriend to his girlfriend, Kat and cries Manly Tears when she's evicted. He's also pretty honest, almost to a fault.
  • Only Sane Man: The most level headed contestant so far.
  • Perma-Stubble: Being on Survivor for several weeks, he's starting to grow this.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Kat's red.
  • Religious Bruiser: He wears a cross around his neck and is good at challenges.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: One of the tallest guys. Not to mention one of the most handsome.
  • Those Two Guys: With Caleb, as they were in an alliance with from the start.

    Katie Collins
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27katie_3371.jpg
Allegiance: Tadhana
Born: June 27, 1988 (age 25)
From: New York City, New York

  • Ascended Extra: She made her first appearance on The Australian Outback at a loved ones visit via webcam when she was barely a teenager.
  • Alliterative Name: Albeit, only in pronunciation.
  • Born Unlucky: Katie was stuck on the losing side of challenges pre-merge, was in the minority alliance throughout the merge and was the one to pull out the rock that eliminated her.
  • Competition Freak: Both herself and her mother admit to being this.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: Like Paschal before her, for only the second time in Survivor history, Katie drew the White Rock and was send to Redemption Island, due to the deadlock of votes.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: Her tanktop and swimwear.
  • The Load: She's pretty awful in challenges until the merge.
  • Lovely Angels: With Ciera until the tribe shuffle.
  • Male Gaze: She is very well-endowed.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's easy on the eyes and doesn't look bad in the bathing suit, either.
  • Nice Girl
  • The Quiet One: She's not shown speaking very often.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to her mom's red. Later on becomes the blue to Hayden and Ciera's red.
  • She's All Grown Up: Compared to her appearance in Australia where she was barely a preteen.
  • Ship Tease: With Vytas, when the two wake up together on the beach the morning after the merge. Of course, Tina notices it.

    Caleb Bankston
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27caleb_157.jpg
Allegiance: Tadhana
Born: September 27, 1987 (age 25)
From: Collinsville, Alabama
Loved One: Colton Cumbie (Boyfriend)
Post office manager, farmer, and a player for Tadhana, opposite his boyfriend Colton.
  • Captain Obvious: After being asked by Jeff as to how he and Colton were similar: "Well, we're both guys."
  • Chekhov's Gunman/The Ghost: According to interviews after his death, Colton loved talking about him during One World.
  • The Chessmaster: Caleb engineers Brad's elimination and appears to have a lot of power on Tadhana as of now.
    • This trope is now averting for Caleb when he tells Tyson about Tadhana's clue to the hidden immunity idol and then later begins to follow Tyson at the merge.
  • Establishing Character Moment: After losing the first challenge, he tells Colton not to cry, making him look like a nice guy.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: He says this in the first episode after being approached by Brad. Fast forward to episode 4: He manages to convince Katie and Ciera to vote out Brad, while being at tribal council.
  • Good Ol' Boy: He's from Alabama.
  • Happily Engaged: With Colton.
  • The Lancer: To Tadhana after Brad's elimination until the tribe shuffle.
  • Manly Man: To Colton's Sensitive Guy.
  • Nice Guy: In stark contrast to Colton.
  • Paranoia Gambit: Thinking Brad was going to vote him out, Caleb organizes bottom feeders, Ciera and Katie, to vote out Brad to protect himself, during Tribal Council. It works.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Colton's red.
  • The Starscream: Caleb goes against his guys alliance when he feels threatened by Brad.
  • Straight Gay/Manly Gay: He doesn't seem stereotypically homosexual at all, which is completely the opposite of Colton.
  • Those Two Guys: With Hayden, as they were in an alliance with from the start..
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: He is blindsided because everyone is afraid of how likable he is.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The trailer for episode 12 blatantly showed him as the 3rd jury member.
  • Wham Line: "Just so you know, Brad, I'm voting you out."
  • What Does He See In Him?: Would you believe this extremely nice guy is getting married to Colton?

    Vytas Baskauskas
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27vytas_5620.jpg
Allegiance: Tadhana
Born: March 22, 1980 (age 33)
From: Santa Monica, California
Loved One: Aras Baskauskas (Younger Brother)
Yoga instructor, math professor, and a player for Tadhana, opposite his younger brother Aras.

Vytas was chosen by public vote to return for the Second Chance season, Survivor: Cambodia.

  • Big Brother Bully: Formerly. According to Aras, Vytas used to beat him up as a teenager.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Vytas was super pissed when Aras was voted out.
  • Call-Back: When Kat was eliminated, he told her that he hopes to enjoy the ambiance of Redemption Island, which refers to the time in One World when she said that she doesn't know the meaning of the word.
  • Chekhov's Gunman/Early-Bird Cameo: He was briefly show during the finale of Panama hugging and congratulating his brother after his victory.
  • The Chessmaster: While Brad acts like he's in charge, Vytas is really the one making the important decisions and calling the shots in his alliance. When Caleb targeted Brad, he was the vote that ultimately sent him to Redemption Island and is currently trying to sway Caleb.
  • Combat Pragmatist: As seen in episode 3.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He was a heroin addict.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When voting out Kat, he says "I hope you enjoy the ambiance at Redemption Island.". This is one of the more obvious moments of his snarky attitude.
  • Determinator: Tried his hardest to stay in the game.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Got arrested when he was a teenager for stealing heroin.
  • Genius Bruiser: He's very good at challenges and he's a Math Professor.
  • Guile Hero: While a very competent physical player, his main weapon happens to be his wits.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being a former heroin addict and a bully to his younger brother, Vytas' heart is in the right place and he really does care for Aras.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Was very, very upset when Aras got blindsided.
  • The Leader: To Tadhana after Brad's elimination until the tribe shuffle.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Vytas is really the one in control of his alliance and his tribe. Not Brad.
  • Moveset Clone: He and his brother basically has the same game-play and skills.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Just like his brother Aras, Vytas is one very good looking man.
  • Off the Wagon: A reformed heroin addict.
  • The One Guy: After the tribe shuffle, he's on a tribe with five other women (Spear Counterpart of Ciera).
  • Palette Swap: He and his brother basically has the same appearance and wears almost the exact same clothes but with different colors.
  • Perma-Stubble: As seen in his promotional pic.
  • Redemption Quest: He wants to atone to Aras for being a Big Brother Bully in their youth.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Aras' blue.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With Aras in the past, and he still has a mild one today.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Aras.
  • The Social Expert: Proves himself to be this after the tribal swap, where he's able to use his wits and charm to gain the trust of the all female tribe he's stuck on.
  • The Smart Guy: He's a Math Professor. This is kind of to be expected.
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky: Almost as tall as his brother but has a more darker demeanor and is very prone to giving snarky comments.
  • The Unfavorite: Justified due to his Dark and Troubled Past.

    Laura Boneham

Allegiance: Tadhana, Galang
Born: August 29, 1968 (age 44)
From: Indianapolis, Indiana
Loved One: Rupert Boneham (Husband)
Merchandiser and a player for Tadhana, opposite her husband Rupert.
  • Ascended Extra: The only loved one this season who's appeared in loved one visits from previous seasons.
    • Chekhov's Gunman: She can be seen as this since she's already competed in two challenges prior to the actual season.
  • Book Ends: She and John were eliminated in the last Redemption Island duel before the merge while their respective spouses were the first two inhabitants of the island.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: She's a surprisingly strong challenge competitor.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Many people consider her to be the female version of Rupert, both in personality and challenge skills.
  • Fish out of Water: On Galang, for obvious reasons.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Almost everyone on Galang wished Rupert were there instead of her.
  • Happily Married: To Rupert.
  • Hidden Depths: Believe it or not, she is a tremendous challenge beast. She's excelled in every Immunity Challenge thus far, rivaling even Aras and Tyson at points and helping Galang deftly beat the well-built members of Tadhana.
    • Notably, Galang lost the Immunity Challenge the first time Laura B. sat out.
  • No Social Skills: Seems to be very socially awkward, and annoys everyone on her tribe.
    • She mentions that she had a very quiet childhood, raised on a farm without much outside interaction, justifying this.
  • One Laura Limit: Averted with Laura Morett, though it was invoked and discussed several times.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Rupert's red.

    John Cody
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27john_895.jpg
Allegiance: Tadhana
Born: May 12, 1983 (age 30)
From: Washington D.C.
Loved One: Candice Cody (Wife)
Physician, army orthopedic surgeon, and a player for Tadhana, opposite his wife Candice.
  • Battle Couple: With his wife while they are on Redemption Island together.
  • Birds of a Feather: One of the main reasons why he and Rachel got along so well and had a budding alliance was in part their similar personalities.
  • Blessed with Suck: The clue to the hidden immunity idol was given to him by Candice as a gesture of forgiveness and affection. Finding it would have been a big boon for his game, but this instead painted a target on his back.
  • Book Ends: He and Laura B. were eliminated in the last Redemption Island duel before the merge while their spouses were the first two inhabitants of the island.
  • Chekhov's Gunman/The Ghost: He and Candice were married by the time of the Heroes vs. Villains reunion show. Candice even showed their wedding ring and made a small reference to him.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: The other guys keep insisting to vote Rachel off because it's the best strategic move for them, but he keeps attempting to deflect because the two are secretly in an alliance. This is what gets him voted off later on.
  • Hospital Hottie: He's a physician.
  • The Lancer: Of the male alliance in Tadhana.
  • Nice Guy: Comes off as this, seems to genuinely care for Candice and is a loving husband.
  • One John Limit: Averted with John Broward "Brad" Culpepper.
  • Out of Focus: He lasted just until the merge, but was voted out third. Thus, most of his content is relegated to redemption island duels.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Candice's red.
  • The Rival: Downplayed with the Culpeppers. While their rivalry with his wife is more straightforward, their rivalry with him is on a more respectable ground.
  • Shirtless Scene: He and Brad have one in the premier upon discovering the waterfall.
  • The Smart Guy: As a doctor, he should be this.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Many of the viewers will definitely agree with this.
  • Two First Names: John Cody.
  • Worthy Opponent: Everyone gave him an ovation after he was evicted.

From: Orlando, Florida
Loved One: Hayden Moss (Boyfriend)
Timeshare representative, alumna of World (eliminated at 7th place) and a player for Galang, opposite her boyfriend Hayden.

    Brad Culpepper
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27brad_4930.jpg
Allegiance: Tadhana
Born: May 8, 1969 (age 44)
From: Tampa, Florida
Loved One: Monica Culpepper (Wife)
Lawyer, retired NFL star, and a player for Tadhana, opposite his wife Monica.

Brad was one of the 32 candidates to return for the Second Chance season, Survivor: Cambodia. Unlike his fellow Blood vs. Water castaways, Ciera & Vytas However, Brad was unable to gather enough votes to return. He would eventually play again in Game Changers.

  • Action Dad: Brad was a former NFL player and still capable athletically.
  • Chekhov's Gunman/The Ghost: Monica occasionally mentioned or referred to him during One World.
  • The Chessmaster: Brad is trying to be this, trying to take full control of his tribe.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: The first few episodes were *heavily* about him, with him getting a "controlling villain" edit.
  • Dumb Jock: He has trouble explaining that 5 has majority on a tribe of 9. In the words of certain fans, "Math is hard". This of course leads us to...
  • Dumb Muscle: If you couldn't tell, he's not very good with numbers.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He plays with his heart, as noted when he talks about how he would throw challenge for Monica.
  • Graceful Loser: Surprisingly, he showed a lot of class when voted out, and then later when he is eliminated at Redemption Island, he goes out with a kind speech.
  • Happily Married: To Monica.
  • Heroic Build: He is very muscular and athletic. Something you'd expect for a classic hero build.
  • Last-Name Basis: Jeff tends to refer to him exclusively as "Culpepper".
  • The Leader: Of Tadhana, or at least he tries to be.
  • Motor Mouth: He's a very talkative guy.
  • No Social Skills: He has no idea when to shut up.
  • Older Than He Looks: He's 44.
  • One Head Taller: With Monica.
  • One John Limit: Averted with John Cody, but lessened by the fact that he's both Only Known by Their Nickname and Jeff goes into Last-Name Basis with him.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Many fans laughed at his inability to do math.
  • Pointy-Haired Boss: What gotten him voted out.
  • Puppet King: Brad thinks he's in full control of Tadhana despite Vytas making more of the vital decisions for his alliance. Brad can also be this to his other alliance members who are already tired of his attitude.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Monica's blue.
  • Retired Badass: Besides playing for the aforementioned teams for eight years (1992-2000), he also had a distinguished career with the Florida Gators (and is also a Hall of Famer).
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: He blindsided John, and as a result his alliance loses trust in him and turns on him at the next tribal council.
  • The Rival: He and his wife to Candice. Their rivalry with John is on a more respectable ground.
  • The Scape Goat: Take note that he is not responsible for organizing the votes against Marissa (which was unanimous) and Rachel (which was Vytas' idea), yet he gets the brunt of the blame for it.
  • Testosterone Poisoning: His plans for his all male alliance didn't end up working out very well.

    Candice Cody - Cook Islands
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor27candice_2740.jpg
Allegiance: Galang
Born: November 12, 1982 (age 30)
From: Washington D.C.
Loved One: John Cody (Husband)
Physician, anesthesiologist, alumna of Cook Islands and Heroes vs. Villains (placing 8th both times), and a player for Galang, opposite her husband John.
  • Action Girl: She won multiple challenges on RI.
  • Alliterative Name: Also has a case of Two First Names.
  • Battle Couple: With her husband now that they are on the same island.
  • Book Ends: In day 1, she and Rupert became the first two inhabitants of Redemption Island. In the last RI duel before the merge, Laura B. and John were defeated (by Laura M.) and sent home.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: Meta-example. Originally R.C. Saint-Amour was going to compete in this season with her father, but they couldn't when he got sick. Thus, Candice and her husband were brought in at the last minute.
  • Flipping the Bird: Towards Brad at redemption island, after she finds out that he blindsided her husband.
  • Hospital Hottie: She's an attractive anesthesiologist.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Her actions towards Culpepper when her husband was sent to Redemption Island and her conversation with Monica in her own boot episode is something you wouldn't expect from someone who has made a reputation of betraying her tribe. Twice.
    • Also, she memorably snarks at Monica for obeying Brad when he tells her to burn the clue to the Immunity Idol, moments after ordering her own husband to give Monica the clue.
  • Male Gaze: Candice got a boob job between Heroes vs. Villains and this season.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Subverted, this is the first time she didn't make the merge and jury. That being said, this season shows her best physical game.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to John's blue.
  • The Rival: She and her husband to the Culpeppers, though they were more civil with John.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Of the Heroes vs. Villains returnees.
  • Sudden Name Change: Before this season, but after Heroes Vs. Villains, she was known as Candice Woodcock.
  • True Blue Femininity: Once again, her outfits are mostly blue. Since this is a season with no blue-colored tribe (at least pre-merge), it's safe to say that this is her favorite color.

Juvenile delinquent mentor, three-time alumnus from Pearls Islands, All-Stars and Heroes vs. Villains (placing 8th, 4th, and 6th, respectively), and a player for Galang, opposite his wife Laura.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Again, one of the series' most well-known examples.
  • Book Ends: In day 1, him and Candice became the first two inhabitants of Redemption Island. In the last RI duel before the merge, Laura B. and John were defeated (by Laura M.) and sent home.
  • Cool Old Guy: He is already in his late forties.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Coming into the season, many expected him to play a similar game as Boston Rob. That did not happen at all.
  • Four Is Death: First one to be eliminated in his fourth time playing the game.
  • Happily Married: To Laura.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He literally gives up his chance to play the game again so that his wife can play in his place.
  • Iconic Outfit: The legendary tie-dye shirt.
  • Large Ham: His battle at Redemption Island can definitely prove this.
  • Lazy Bum: Candice accuses him of being this while they're both at Redemption Island. However, he claims this to be part of his strategy to not waste any energy before the duel.
