The Tribes

    Bikal
  • A House Divided: Some of them can't get along but can put differences aside if they have to win. Except that time (Hi Brandon!).
  • Badass Crew: A group of veteran players who obviously learned (except for some) from their past mistakes and curb-stomps the team of New Meat before the tribes merged.
  • The Bus Came Back: The original lineup.
  • Four-Philosophy Ensemble: Comes in two sets.
    • The four original members who remained.
      • Philip = The Optimist.
      • Corrine = The Cynic.
      • Dawn = The Apathetic.
      • Cochran = The Realist.
    • The four members who were drafted to Gota.
      • Malcolm = The Optimist.
      • Erik = The Conflicted.
      • Brenda = The Apathetic.
      • Andrea = The Realist.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: Likewise.
    • The four original members who remained.
      • Philip = Choleric.
      • Corrine = Sanguine.
      • Dawn = Phlegm.
      • Cochran = Melancholic.
    • The four members who were drafted to Gota.
      • Malcolm = Choleric.
      • Erik = Leukine.
      • Brenda = Phlegm.
      • Andrea = Sanguine.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Everyone's main goal. Played straight by Cochran, Dawn and Brenda. Despite placing in the same rank, Erik arguably played a better game this time around.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Played straight with the original line up. Subverted after the tribe switch.
  • Zen Survivors: The original lineup.

    Gota
  • A House Divided: Pre-merge. In the beginning their was the Cool Kids alliance, and the majority Gota Alliance.
  • Ascended Fanboys: The original lineup.
  • Badass Crew: Post-switch. Gota consisted of four of the fitter Favorites, Eddie and Reynolds from the original Fans tribe, and Sherri. They would win the three remaining challenges.
  • The Beautiful Elite: Invoked after the tribal switch.
  • Cannon Fodder: OK, so they weren’t exactly military personnel. But that’s exactly how this True Dork Times article described them after the tribal shuffle left them in the minority on both sides.
"An entire tribe of cannon fodder, apparently by design."
    • Although it can be justified by the fact that they are facing a team of players that have field experience, and are more well-prepared before the game even started.
  • Divided We Fall: The members were so divided that they failed to flock together once the tribes merged.
  • Dwindling Party: Aside from the fact that they were curb-stomped, the team is very, very divided.
  • Epic Fail: Pre-switch. Gota only won one Immunity Challenge. After that? They lost every single one, only getting Immunity right before the tribal swap because Bikal wanted to forfeit and get rid of Brandon Hantz.
  • Failure Tribe: Pre-switch.
  • Four-Philosophy Ensemble: The four fans that reached the merge have this dynamic.
    • Sherri = The Cynic.
    • Reynold = The Optimist.
    • Eddie = The Apathetic.
    • Michael = The Realist.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: Likewise.
    • Sherri = Melancholic.
    • Reynold = Sanguine.
    • Eddie = Phlegmatic.
    • Michael = Choleric.
  • New Meat: The original lineup.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Post-switch, they managed to win the remaining challenges before the merge.

The Sole Survivor

John Martin Cochran - South Pacific

John Martin Cochran

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cochran.png

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites), Enil Edam
Born: January 17, 1987 (age 26)
From: Washington, D.C.

John was born Jan 17, 1987. His hometown is Washington, D.C. He is a Harvard law student, alumnus from South Pacific (eliminated at 8th place), and a player for Bikal. Once known in his first outing as an antisocial nerd, who'd get votes for each of Savaii's tribal councils, this time he showed a better, if not excellent, gameplay, for which he was rewarded with winning Caramoan — and in the process becoming the second Sole Survivor going into the finals without a single vote cast against him and the third to win via a unanimous vote.

Runners-Up

    Sherri Pritchard Biethman

Sherri Pritchard Biethman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sherri_6.png

Allegiance: Gota (Fans), Enil Edam
Born: May 8, 1971 (age 41)
From: Boise, Idaho

Sherri was born May 8, 1971. Her hometown is Boise, Idaho. She is a fast food franchisee and a player for Gota.

  • Anti Heroine
  • Ascended Fangirl: As well as being the only fan able to recognize all the people in the Bikal crowd (sans Malcolm, as Philippines had not yet aired at the time of filming), she even named her son after Colby Donaldson.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: What she ultimately turned out to be.
  • The Chessmaster: She arranged Allie's eviction to protect Shamar with the intentions of bringing him to the end as a perfect scapegoat. Unfortunately for her, Shamar ended up medevaced.
  • Diminishing Villain Threat: Although she started off strong by forming an alliance of six to counter Reynold's "Cool Kids Club", she ultimately turned out to be this as her alliance dwindled until the merge. After that, her strategy devolved into little more than riding coattails.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: She became this after joining Stealth R Us. Other members such as Andrea were reluctant on taking her in, she got into fights with other members such as Erik during the jury questioning, and Phillip, the one member who actually seemed liked her had "revoked" her membership at Final Tribal Council.
  • Frozen Face: All that botox certainly does wonders for her looks.
  • Face Palm: Not quite a facepalm per se, but she did have a very agitated look on her when Malcom revealed that he had two hidden immunity idols on him the whole time.
  • Humiliation Conga: She got bashed pretty badly by the jury at Final Tribal Council. Clearly know one even considered voting for her to win.
  • Idiot Ball: Grabs firm hold of it at the Final Tribal Council when she yells at and insults Erik. That, coupled with her terrible opening remarks made her a part of the set more than a player.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Laura.
  • Irony:
    • Her entire basis for allying with Shamar was that she wanted him to be "her Phillip." Come the merge, Phillip offers her an alliance, and she's reluctant to ally with him because she can't stand him. Rob Cesternino put it rather accurately:
"She wanted Shamar as a fake Phillip, but she didn't want to ally with the real Phillip!"
    • Another amusing bit of irony is the sheer fact that the entire game she has been trying to bring people like Shamar and Phillip to the end as her goat only for them to leave unexpectedly. Then she makes it to the end with herself as the goat.
  • Last of Her Kind: The last remaining Fan.
  • The Load: Bordered on The Millstone in tribal challenges.
  • No Social Skills: It became very evident as the game went on, particularly with her awful Final Tribal Council performance.
  • The Pawn: Eddie of all people calls her a puppet.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Once she faced the jury, her true colors came shining through.
  • Shoot the Dog: Fought really hard for Laura to stay, but she still wrote her name down to avoid becoming the odd-man-out.
  • Sixth Ranger: To Stealth R Us after the merge.
  • Smug Snake: Probst himself even stated that out of everyone in the Final 5, she had zero chance of winning. He was right.
  • Token Evil Teammate

Dawn Denise Meehan - South Pacific

Dawn Denise Meehan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dawn_8.png

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites), Enil Edam
Born: June 29, 1970 (age 42)
From: South Jordan, Utah

Dawn was born Jun 29, 1970. Her hometown is South Jordan, Utah. She is an English professor, alumna from South Pacific (eliminated at 10th place) and a player for Bikal.

The Jury

    Edward Thomas "Eddie" Fox

Edward Thomas "Eddie" Fox

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eddie_220.png

Allegiance: Gota (Fans), Enil Edam
Born: July 13, 1989 (age 23)
From: East Brunswick, New Jersey

Eddie was born July 13, 1989. His hometown is East Brunswick, New Jersey. He is a a fireman/EMT and player for Gota.

  • Bash Brothers: With Reynold and Malcolm.
  • The Big Guy: The main reason why he and Reynold survived the pre-swap Gota was because tribe's need for win challenges.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: He likes dogs, and he likes bars, so he wanted to open a dog-bar if he won.
  • The Determinator: Eddie is a determined and persistent player. His determined personality managed to get him all the way to the Final Four. If he had won another individual challenge, he would have secured a spot in the Final Three.
  • The Ditz: He's a strong athletic competitor, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
  • Dumb Muscle: Eddie is athletic and muscular but he's really bad at strategy.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: For all of his stupidity at playing Survivor, his jab at Sherri when she decides to switch to Stealth R Us 2.0 about wanting to play his own game and not wanting to be someone's puppet is pretty accurate for people who don't like Sherri, and completely unexpected from a guy like him.
  • Freudian Trio: Of the Three Amigos, he is the Ego.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Reynold.
  • Hidden Depths: During Erik's medevac, he is able to explain exactly what is going on to Erik due to his job as an EMT.
  • Idiot Ball: His plan with Reynold to take over then ten-man Gota with four people would've looked a little bit less idiotic had the same thing not happened two seasons ago. He ended up getting Allie and Hope, their two allies, voted out.
    • That was actually Manipulative Editing in place. According to Allie in her exit interview on Rob Has A Podcast, they believed they also had Matt and Laura on their side forming a majority.
  • Idiot Hero: Eddie absolutely lacks good strategic sense in this game. See Idiot Ball.
  • The Lancer: To Reynold.
  • Last of His Kind: The final Amigo/Cool Kid.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Eddie is one of the most attractive male contestants this season along with Reynold and Malcolm.
  • Nice Guy: Came across as a little smug at first, but was known for being very friendly and likeable towards his tribemates. He also gently walked Erik through his own medevac to keep him informed and calm
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: By letting Andrea know that her name was brought up, he ruined the chance of his alliance taking her out with Reynold/Malcolm's idol and lost an ally in Michael because of it.
  • Tagalong Kid: He's the youngest member of The Three Amigos alliance.
  • The Remnant: Of the "Cool Kids Club" that was originally formed between himself, Reynold, Hope, and Allie.
  • True Companions: The Three Amigos.

Erik John Reichenbach - Micronesia note

Erik John Reichenbach

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/erik_3.png

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites), Gota, Enil Edam
Born: November 27, 1985 (age 27)
From: Santa Clarita, California

Erik was born Nov 27, 1985. His hometown is Santa Clarita, California. He is a comic book artist, returning player from Micronesia (eliminated at 5th place thanks to infamously surrendering his immunity), and player for Bikal.

  • Action Survivor
  • Anti-Villain: Not as much as Cochran, but it's there. Gameplay wise, anyway.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Bonus points for being on Airai (the fans' team) in Micronesia, the first "Fans vs. Favorites" season.
  • The Atoner/Redemption Quest: Hoped to redeem himself after his Epic Fail of an elimination back in Micronesia.
  • Badass Bookworm: He is a comic book artist after all.
  • The Big Guy: One of the two for Bikal.
  • Big Eater: Most of his confessionals are about food.
  • Born Unlucky: Got medevaced in the exact same spot he got eliminated the first time and all because of an allergy he didn't know he had.
  • Character Development: Compared to his younger, more naive self back in Micronesia, he is far more socially aware, being the only man to call out Phillip on his actions and Andrea on playing both sides of Bikal's alliances. He also chosen to trust no one but himself and is a free agent similarly to Malcolm.
    • Also took on Sandra's strategy of "as long as it ain't me."
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: He's been pretty low key about it, but so far he's betrayed quite a few of his allies. By the final 6 he has betrayed everyone except Brenda. Heartbreakingly he is medically evacuated right after Brenda is voted out.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: This season Erik has come under fire for his strategic play, or lack thereof. However, in the Tribal Council where Phillip got eliminated, he points out that Malcolm and Eddie may not actually play the idols and Stealth R Us should still split the vote, forcing Malcolm to play both (which was not his plan) and therefore flushing both from play. He then votes for Phillip along with the Three Amigos, getting rid of the leader of his alliance that he can't stand while screwing over the Three Amigos with the idols. Who would've expected that from The Silent One?
  • Diabolusex Machina: Oof, maybe one of the worst examples in Survivor history. He seemed like a lock for the F3 between his challenge prowess and unthreatening nature, he's medically evacuated from the game at the final five, the same spot he left in Survivor Micronesia.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: His evac is the very first thing to happen in the finale, out of absolutely nowhere.
  • Fanservice Pack: He is more well built compared to his skinny (yet competent) appearance in Micronesia, though he's still pretty skinny.
  • I Coulda Been a Contender!
  • Keet: Especially when he's eating or wins a challenge.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy
  • Mr. Fanservice
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Though he in now more well-built compared to Micronesia, he is still pretty skinny, and yet physically competent.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Although he still placed 5th, his gameplay was arguably much stronger this time around (plus he left the game in a much less embarrassing manner).
  • Nice Guy
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: Right at the end of the game and in rather terrifying fashion. Right after tribal council, Erik collapses and is completely disoriented, continuously talking about how everything is spinning. At the time, it is believed that Erik is in a state of starvation and had to be pulled from the game. His fainting was so drastic that he didn't remember tribal council, his next memory was waking up in the hospital thinking someone else had been voted out. As it would happen, Erik wasn't just starving but also having an allergic reaction. Off screen he was given a penicillin pill by the medic team earlier in the day for a minor infection but neither the medical team nor Erik knew at the time was allergic and would react negatively. He was medically cleared the next day thankfully but the rules of the game didn't allow him to return.
  • Odd Friendship: Had one with Brandon, and when he voted Brandon off after his meltdown, Brandon responded with a "Love you, man".
  • Older and Wiser
  • Out of Focus: Not quite as bad as Brenda, but it's still there.
  • Playing Both Sides: Both at the start of the merge between Stealth R Us and Corinne/Malcolm's alliance, and later on when Brenda and Andrea were trying to get each other out.
  • Pragmatic Hero
  • Shonen Hair
  • Sixth Ranger: To Stealth R Us.
  • Token Good Teammate: Serves as this to Stealth R Us and the Favorites in general.
  • Tooka Level In Badass: Gameplay-wise.
  • Turn Coat: In both ways actually.
    • Turned on Malcolm and gave Phillip a majority in the merge.
    • He was then the only member of Stealth R Us to vote for Phillip once the Three Amigos revealed their idols... and then subsequently voted with Stealth R Us come the next tribal council.
  • The Quiet One: Philip even nicknamed him The Silent One.
  • Worthy Opponent
  • Zen Survivor

    Brenda A. Lowe - Nicaragua

Brenda A. Lowe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brenda_2.png

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites), Gota, Enil Edam
Born: November 3, 1982 (age 30)
From: Miami, Florida

Brenda was born Nov 3, 1982. Her hometown is Miami, Florida. She is a paddleboard company owner, returnee from Nicaragua (eliminated at 10th place), and player for Bikal.

  • Action Girl: She's one of the strongest female competitors of the season.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: The composed type.
  • Ascended Extra: Goes from ten straight episodes of being a Living Prop to suddenly becoming the center of attention between multiple contestants.
  • Babies Ever After: Had a child after Caramoan was finished. In fact, Brenda was unable to attend the reunion show because she was due to give birth at any moment then, but she did participate in the boradcast via satellite.
  • Badass Adorable: She's a strong competitor and she's very attractive and adorable.
  • Being Good Sucks: The fact that she hadn't pissed anyone off or lied to anyone made her pop up on the radar as a credible threat, hence her elimination.
  • Butt-Monkey: While not as bad as others such as Julia, Brenda Gotten Out of Focus by the editing, stuck in the minority and won the challenge that became her Diabolus ex Machina.
  • Character Development: Unlike last time, she planned on being quiet and staying below the radar early in the game so as not to attract unwanted attention.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She seems to have a penchant for purple colored clothing.
  • Happily Married: After Caramoan was finished filming.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Willing drops out of a immunity challenge so Dawn could win. It was the same immunity challenge that occurred when she was voted off in Nicaragua and the same thing happened here.
  • Jerkass Ball: After being nicer this time around, Brenda took all of her anger out on Dawn.
  • Lady of War: She manages to take out Andrea(who had an idol in her pocket).
  • Living Prop: Only for the first ten episodes.
  • Male Gaze: She is definite eye candy for the male viewers.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Many male fans have commented on how physically beautiful and attractive Brenda is.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Although played straight in that she placed four places higher than she did in her original season.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: While there were other factors, ultimately, choosing to give up her loved ones reward led directly her elimination, as the generosity of that action made her a huge threat if she made it to the final three.
  • Older and Wiser: Hopes she can apply the lessons she learned from Nicaragua to last longer in the game. It works.
  • Older Than She Looks: She's in her early 30s.
  • Only in Florida: Brenda is from Miami, Florida.
  • Out-Gambitted: By Cochran.
  • Out of Focus: Considering she hasn't really done anything interesting and she shared her original tribe with Phillip and Brandon and her post-swap tribe with Reynold, this was inevitable. This stops around Episode 10.
  • Plucky Girl: Brenda has a very optimistic, upbeat and happy go lucky personality. However, it's a very bad idea to backstab or betray her. She doesn't take it very well. Right, Dawn?
  • Sadistic Choice: After winning the loved ones reward challenge, she was forced to either keep her reward that she chose to share with Dawn and feast with two loved ones or give up her and Dawn's chance to see their loved ones in exchange for everyone else to feast with their two loved ones. If she went with the former, she would look like a selfish Jerkass but if she went with the latter (which she did), she would be seen as a jury threat. Damned if she did, damned if she didn't.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog: Her elimination is this.
  • Sore Loser: Very much so. She was extremely bitter about her vote-off. When she was voted out, she stood up and stared everyone down and see righteously told them that she was genuine and honest with them. She was particularly bitter towards Dawn at the Final Tribal.
  • The Stoic: She's pretty good at keeping her emotions in check while playing the game. Outside of the game, she is more Not So Stoic.
  • The Quiet One: According to other castaways.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After being pushed into the background for half of the season, we finally get to see the strategic chops she has when Andrea starts targeting her for elimination, and is a big factor in Andrea's blindside.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Brenda was definitely a lot nicer this time around, even giving up the chance to spend time with her loved one(s).
  • Sixth Ranger: To Stealth R Us.
  • Spicy Latina: Downplayed. She's half-Bolivian, half-Chinese.
    • This side of her personality shows when she forces Dawn to take out her teeth in front of the jury, however.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: Brenda gotten targeted because of her athleticism and likability.
  • Worthy Opponent: She was a legitimate threat to win the season. Hence why everyone voted her out and blindsided her.
  • Zen Survivor

Andrea Linda Boehlke - Redemption Island

Andrea Linda Boehlke

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/andrea_6.png

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites), Gota, Enil Edam
Born: May 10, 1989 (age 23)
From: New York City, New York

Andrea was born May 10, 1989. Her hometown is New York, New York. She is an entertainment host/writer, returnee from Redemption Island, where she became the first woman to return from Redemption Island (coming in 5th place), and player for Bikal.

  • Backstab Backfire: Her attempt at blindsiding Brenda results in her getting blindsided with an idol in her pocket.
  • Character Development: Vows to play a smarter, more aggressive game than her first time around in Redemption Island, where she was blindsided by her own alliance. Unfortunately for her, the exact same thing happens this time around.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Of from Ken Hoang. Both had a high position of power in their alliance and had a good shot to win it all before devolving into a Smug Snake and attempted to betray a member of their alliance due to viewing them as a threat while forming a new alliance with outsiders. In both cases, it backfired on them and cost them the entire game.
    • In addition, both had a black best friend (Crystal and Phillip) that served as their closest ally in the game.
  • The Cutie: She is very sweet and adorable on the surface. However, she has a very ruthless and cunning side of her personality.
  • The Dragon: To Phillip, serving as "The Elminator" for Stealth R Us.
  • Everyone Loves Blondes: Andrea is a popular and attractive blonde. It's no wonder why so many male fans are drawn to her.
  • Fanservice Pack: Appears Hotter and Sexier compared to Redemption Island.
  • Farm Girl/Farmer's Daughter
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: In her casual outfit. Her bikini overlaps with True Blue Femininity.
  • Graceful Loser: Laughed and congratulated her tribe when she was blindsided and shows no signs of being a bitter juror.
  • Guile Heroine: Andrea is a very smart, strategic and savvy player. She used her wit and intelligence to further herself in the game.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Phillip.
  • The Lancer: To Bikal pre-shuffle.
  • Male Gaze: She's an absolute Ms. Fanservice to boot and is very popular with the male viewers.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Started to develop into one with her attempt to backstab Brenda. It ended up getting her voted out.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Thanks to the Fanservice Pack.
  • Nice Girl: Andrea has a very nice, easy going and pleasant personality. However, this season, she displayed some ruthless and cunning behavior.
  • Out-Gambitted: By Cochran.
  • Plucky Girl: She's upbeat, optimistic and doesn't bother with being a sore loser when she is outplayed.
  • Smug Snake: Had a very good shot at winning until she devolved into this late in the game.
  • The Social Expert: She calls herself a social butterfly and was cast for the Social Butterfly archetype. She tries to really use her social skills in her second attempt to form multiple alliances, so much so that it makes some of her tribemates distrust her post-merge. They see her as a jury threat.
  • The Starscream: Her attempt to be this to Brenda is what got her eliminated.
    • On her Survivor: Life Aftershow exit interview, she also said that she planning to betray Cochran before he got her first.
  • Token White: Of the Redemption Island returnees.
  • Zen Survivor

    Reynold William Toepfer

Reynold William Toepfer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reynold_6.png

Allegiance: Gota (Fans), Enil Edam
Born: December 12, 1982 (age 30)
From: San Francisco, California

Reynold was born Dec 12, 1982. His hometown is San Francisco, California. He is a real estate salesman and a player for Gota.

  • Accidental Misnaming: Phillip continually calls him "Reynolds".
  • Bash Brothers: With Eddie and Malcolm.
  • Born Lucky: He finds the idol again shortly after playing it.
  • Butt-Monkey: He keeps trying to make big moves all season, only for all of them to backfire spectacularly, while remaining on the outs with his tribe throughout the entire game.
    • Subverted, when he wins immunity which lets his alliance take out Phillip.
  • Character Development/Took a Level in Kindness: Becomes less of a jerk as time goes on, and becomes more of a blindly optimistic goofball.
  • Determinator
  • Dumb Muscle: He's a very strong and athletic competitor but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
  • Failure Hero: Reynold never was able to be in the majority and control the game.
  • Freudian Trio: Of the Three Amigos, he is the Id.
  • Graceful Loser: Despite getting screwed so many times, Reynolds said in his final words that he had the time of his life.
  • Happily Married: Reynolds got married right after filming, so by the time the show was airing, he was a newly wed.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Eddie and also with Malcolm after the swap hits. He has a very close relationship with both men.
  • Idiot Ball: His plan with Eddie backfired spectacularly, causing one of their alliance, Allie, to get the boot. Also, he hid the Hidden Immunity Idol in his pocket while wearing tight pants, then showed it to everyone during Tribal Council.
    • Later on after the swap, he tells Malcolm he has an idol. He later plays the idol on Malcolm after some last-second convincing.
  • Idiot Hero: During the merge.
  • Jerkass: The first half of the game, mostly.
    • Jerk Jock: He's one of the most athletic contestants and he has a somewhat unpleasant personality while playing the game.
    • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: However, he's still a Nice Guy most of the time. He mellows out in the second half of the game.
    • Jerkass Has a Point: He may be somewhat smug and condescending, but his argument for keeping him and Eddie around because of their strength in challenges was pretty valid, and the rest of his team eventually came around and decided to keep the two men and vote out Laura.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Reynold is one of the most attractive male contestants of the season, along with Malcolm and Eddie.
  • Large Ham: He makes his jury speech about him by making Dawn name adjectives that describe him. He's so over-the-top about it, though, that it's actually hysterical.
  • Number Two: To Malcolm. Reynold is Malcolm's second in command in ever way. Malcolm gives out the orders and Reynold follows them and carries out his plans.
  • Older Than They Look: He looks much younger than 30.
  • Porn Stache: After joining the jury, he shaves his beard into this for one Tribal Council in order to try and get a reaction from the people left in the game.
  • Scheherezade Gambit: How he was able to survive the destruction of the "Cool Kids Club" along with Eddie.
  • Shadow Archetype: To Malcolm.
  • Shady Real Estate Agent: Reynold was cast for the Con Man archetype primarily and Malcolm's Ace archetype only secondarily. He was cast to be that snake oil salesman type.
  • Ship Tease: With Allie.
  • Smug Super
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: He got most of the screentime on the original Gota tribe, alongside his Sitcom Arch-Nemesis, Shamar.
  • The Strategist: Or so he wishes.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Reynold has dark hair and is very physically attractive.
  • True Companions: The Three Amigos.

    Malcolm Scott Freberg - Philippines
'

Malcolm Scott Freberg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/malcolm_8.png

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites), Gota, Enil Edam
Born: May 7, 1986 (age 26)
From: Hermosa Beach, California

Malcolm was born May 7, 1986. His hometown is Hermosa Beach, California. He is a bartender, alumnus from the previous season, Philippines (where he survived attempts to eliminate him early on before being eliminated at 4th place, just one seat short of the Final Three), and a returning player, this time for Bikal.

  • The Ace: Strategically, competitively and socially one of the strongest and most dominant players of the season and of the game in general. Malcolm is often regarded as one of the best players to never win.
  • Affably Evil: Malcolm is very good at appearing nice and friendly to people, but absolutely plotting their demise and then stabbing them in the back. This seems to be his M.O.
  • Anti-Hero: Malcolm is very ruthless and conniving in the game but everything he does is strictly for strategic purposes and non-personal.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Still claims to be one after playing the game last season.
  • Badass Biker: Owns a motorcycle after his 4th place finish on the previous season.
  • Backstab Backfire: His attempt to betray Phillip and Stealth R Us ending up as this. However, he did manage to idol Phillip out of the game before going down himself.
  • Bash Brothers: with Reynold and Eddie.
  • The Big Guy: One of the two for Bikal. He also doubles as The Smart Guy.
  • Born Lucky: Found the Hidden Immunity Idol for himself yet again.
    • And when he and Eddie were both in trouble due to Reynold winning immunity, he literally reached into a hole in front of Andrea and Dawn and found another idol. This allowed him to give his other idol to Eddie and kept their alliance of three completely safe that Tribal Council.
  • Breakout Character: Won Fan Favorite at the end of the season.
  • Character Development: Has chosen to play a "colder" game, trusting no one but himself in order to avoid endgame betrayal, like what happened last season.
  • The Chessmaster: Became this on Gota after the swap. He's also this on a Enil Edam as he's still coming up with brilliant strategies however his allies keep screwing up his plans. However when his allies are competent he pulls off some crazy moves.
  • Consummate Liar: Claims to be one when it comes to women.
  • Darker and Edgier: He's much more ruthless, conniving, manipulative and cunning than his previous appearance on "Philippines".
  • Deadpan Snarker: Occasionally. He's rather snarky, witty and sharp during his confessionals.
  • Decoy Protagonist
  • The Determinator: Malcolm is very determined and persistent in the way she plays the game. If there is someone that he wants out of the game, he won't hesitate to lie, scheme and backstab to get that person out.
  • The Dragon/Dragon with an Agenda: While he serves as "The Enforcer" to Phillip, Malcolm is using him to take the heat off himself and move along with his own plans.
    • Co-Dragons: With Andrea.
    • Dragon Ascendant: Subverted. He tried to break away from Stealth R Us 2.0 and establish his own faction, but it failed.
  • Freudian Trio: Of the Three Amigos, he is the Superego.
  • Genius Bruiser: Malcolm is a very strong athletic and physical competitor, but he's also very brilliant, smart, savvy and strategic in the game. These qualities makes him a very dangerous player in the game.
  • Guile Hero: Malcolm relies on the use of manipulation and strategy to further himself in the game. He's still a very strong physical competitor as well.
  • The Hero Dies: He is the 11th contestant voted out and he becomes the third jury member on Day 30. He made it farther on his previous season, but it's understandable why he was voted out—he was too dangerous of a player to let slide to the end.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: with Reynold. Reynold sort of has a bromance love triangle with Eddie on one side and Malcolm on the other side.
  • Hunk: Malcolm is one of the most handsome and physically attractive male contestants in the history of Survivor. Not only is he this trope, but he's a Pretty Boy at the same time. When you put those two together, he's a Long-Haired Pretty Boy.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Says this as he enters the walk of shame.
  • The Leader: Of the Three Amigos.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Malcolm is a combination of a Hunk and a Pretty Boy. His hair is long enough to pull back into a mid-ponytail or man bun.
  • Looks Like Jesus: Lampshaded in his original (the previous) season and he basically still looks the same.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Brilliantly convinces Reynold to give him his idol (despite secretly having one of his own) right after Reynold stood up to play his idol for himself, in order to send Andrea home... which would have been a fantastic play had Andrea not heard about his plan to vote her off and switched the vote to Michael. Afterward, he finds another idol and gives it to Eddie that way all 3 of his alliance is safe and they take out Phillip.
  • Mr. Fanservice: The amount of female fans he has is nothing to sneeze at.
  • Nice Guy: Outside of the game, Malcolm has a very down to earth, humble and pleasant personality. He can be ruthless and manipulative in the game, but it's purely for strategy. He never makes anything personal.
  • Noble Demon: He's ruthless, cunning and manipulative and he'll do anything to further himself in the game. However, he does have a moral code and he won't use extremely underhanded tactics to progress further in the game.
  • Only Sane Man: Of Bikal.
  • The Quiet One: Since he's the new kid he spent the first three days trying to make a good impression on the tribe by being nice and not causing any trouble. His plan worked — he was the last to play for Bikal during its loss at the first immunity challenge, and and his name wasn't even brought up (unlike most examples, where those who played last for tribes losing immunity challenges become potential targets for elimination).
  • Shadow Archetype: To Reynold.
  • So Last Season: The only other reason he was voted out, aside from being a competent player, was because he is a back-to-back player, because by now, players have seen and learned how previous ones fared well in past seasons due to the advantage of being fresh from the game and not being analyzed/seen by other contestants. note
  • The Social Expert: Malcolm has an excellent social game and he has an exceptional way of communicating and socializing with others. His social game is one of the strongest aspects of his game.
  • The Starscream: A failed example to Stealth R Us, but he does manage to at least take out their leader Phillip before going out himself.
  • The Strategist: He knows that the alpha males will be the first four targets post merge so he creates an alliance consisting of himself, Reynold, Erik, and Eddie. Then, despite being in the minority, he takes out Phillip through some clever idol play.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome
  • Tall, Dark, and Snarky
  • True Companions: The Three Amigos (Eddie and Reynold).
  • Wise Beyond Their Years
  • Worthy Opponent: They just merged and nobody wants to go to the end with him already because no one can beat him.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Attempted this on Phillip and his allies by creating a six-way alliance consisting of himself, Corinne, Reynold, Eddie, Michael, and Erik to vote off Sherri and give them a 6-5 majority. It was ultimately subverted however, as Stealth R Us 2.0 caught word of what was going on, integrated Sherri, Brenda, and Erik into their alliance, sending Corinne packing and leaving Malcolm and his alliance on the outs.

Allegiance: Gota (Fans), Bikal, Enil Edam
Born: August 30, 1968 (age 44)
From: New York, New York

Michael was born Aug 30, 1968. His hometown is New York, New York and he is an event planner and player for Gota, and the oldest of the fans.

  • Butt-Monkey: Nothing went his way the entire game. Both tribes he was on was the losing tribe, entering the merge with only one challenge win. After entering the merge and joining the Cool Kids Club, he got screwed over when Stealh R Us figured out what was going on and voted out his new ally Corinne. Then, he finally got sent packing when they changed their target from Malcolm to him to avoid the idol being played. He even lampshaded this on his boot episode where he won the reward challenge:
    • I'm on the winning team!
  • Cool Old Guy: The oldest first time player in the season.
  • I Coulda Been a Contender!: According to Malcolm, Michael has a really sharp mind for the game, but simply got dealt the wrong set of cards.
  • Nice Guy: He's one of the nicest contestants of the season.
  • Only Sane Man: Michael is a very logical, level-headed and practical in how he approaches the game. He could have easily won the game, but he was just dealt a bad hand.
  • Sixth Ranger: To the Cool Kids Club after the merge.
  • The Smart Guy: Michael is a very smart and strategic player, but unfortunately, he was outsmarted and out-gambited by Malcolm.
  • Snow Means Death: Michael, whose last name is Snow, is the first juror of the season and was voted out on Day 25.
  • Straight Gay: Michael is a gay man but he's not overly camp in how he presents himself.
  • Stoic Spectacles: He wears glasses and he has a rather calm, cool and collected personality.
  • Those Two Guys: With Matt. Matt was his closest ally. Unfortunately, Matt was voted out before the jury phase.

  • Action Girl
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl
  • Butt-Monkey: Got very little screen time, and when she did it was mostly her being insulted and criticized by other players.
  • Insult to Rocks: Cochran referred to her personality as vanilla. Then he called it a disservice to anything flavored vanilla.
  • Living Prop
  • Tagalong Kid: She's the youngest contestant this season.
  • The Stoic
  • Out of Focus: As she had no social game to speak of. Even the other contestants chided her for being boring.
  • You Go, Girl!: A racer and first female Skip Barber Racing Series champion at the tender age of fourteen.

From: Cincinatti, Ohio

Matt was born Apr 4, 1974. His hometown is Cincinnati, Ohio and he is a BMX bike salesman and a player for Gota.

  • The Big Guy: He's one of the huskier fellows of the season.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: He had a favorable position in the majority alliance on the original Gota tribe. Then comes the switch...
  • Face of a Thug: He has a bit of an intimidating face, but he's a very nice person.
  • Graceful Loser: He was blindsided but he took being voted out rather well.
  • I Coulda Been a Contender!: Matt could have gone a lot farther in the game, but the switch happened and it completely screwed him over. It was nothing but being dealt a bad hand.
  • Manly Facial Hair: Matt sports a very large red beard bordering on looking like a Beard of Barbarism.
  • Nice Guy: He's one of the nicest contestants of the season.
  • Those Two Guys: With Michael. The two were very close allies in the game. Michael managed to make it a bit farther than him.
  • Tattooed Crook: Subverted. Matt is not a villain but he's got a lot of tattoos all over his body, especially on his arms.
  • Wild Hair: Matt has long hair and he sports a very large, unruly and red beard. His hair stands out in general.

Brandon Keith Hantz - South Pacific note

Brandon Keith Hantz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brandon_2.png

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites)
Born: October 15, 1991 (age 21)
From: Katy, Texas

Brandon was born Oct 15, 1991. His hometown is Katy, Texas and he's an oil tanker crewman, alumnus from South Pacific (eliminated at 6th place) and a player for Bikal. He's the youngest returning player and nephew of the infamous Russell Hantz from Samoa, Heroes Vs Villains and Redemption Island.

  • Anti-Villain: Possibly a Type III, seeing as he definitely sees himself as a hero, and believes he is doing good.
  • Arch-Enemy: With Phillip.
  • Berserk Button: It seems to boil down to "threats to his manhood". He'd been having trouble with Phillip's condescending attitude for a while, but his blowup was specifically triggered out of jealously by Phillip lasting longer in the Reward Challenge and claiming most of the credit for the win, and totally burst upon hearing from Andrea that Phillip also seemed to be calling the shots on voting him off despite his apology, unknowing that it was actually Cochran and Dawn who's calling the shots.
  • The Brute: Of his alliance.
  • Character Development: States he's playing a more strategic game this season but it didn't really work out. Yet to him he did develop...in a wrong way; see I Want to Be a Real Man.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Brandon is a little out there.
  • Defiant to the End: When did Brandon ever listen to or obey anyone? He even assumes his teammates argument (namely Phillip) as nonsense.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: To Phillip. He took himself out of the game.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Brandon Hantz has did something nothing can forgive- threatened the health of his entire tribe by depriving them of their rice and beans and arguing over everything to the point he was willing to beat on people. Brandon easily got to this level of hated by his whole tribe when he snapped and dumped out their supplies just to spite Phillip and anyone trying to vote him out, but if that wasn't enough, he went crazy and got people scared to be on the same tribe with him. It was so bad that Bikal actually willingly forfeited an Immunity Challenge and demanded Brandon be kicked out of the game NOW. Jeff heard their wishes, agreed and conducted an impromptu Tribal Council on the beach, and Brandon was openly voted out with no need for privacy. On top of this, Survivor reprimanded him by forbidding him to attend the finale.
  • Entitled Bastard: Brandon is very much entitled and spoiled when he doesn't get his way.
  • Evil Feels Good: Said that he could feel his uncle Russell's blood rising inside him after Jeff ask him about the question of being in the 'blood related'
  • Face–Heel Turn: This occurs probably after the reunion of Survivor South Pacific (due to family issues) and decide this season he goes down differently. Of course this turns out not the way people would expect.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: The vote to evict him was unanimous among the tribe.
  • Griefer
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Brandon has a quick temper and he gets easily angered.
  • Hot-Blooded: Brandon is passionate and hot headed.
  • I Want to Be a Real Man/"Well Done, Son" Guy: His tantrum was partially a desire for validation from his family and he bragged that he didn't even cry once on the way out. In an interview, he actually stated he was pleased with how he came off on TV and that Russell was proud of him for becoming a "real man".
  • Jerkass: BIG TIME. But not as secretly manipulative as Russell plays.
    • Jerkass Has a Point: There are a few times during his meltdown where he actually has valid points, but the strongest point is when he tells Phillip that Boston Rob brought him to the finals the first time because Rob knows he won't get a vote (although Phillip did get one vote) snd Phillip isn't as good of a player as he thinks he is.
  • Large Ham: Especially during his meltdown, where he damn near shouted every last word that came out of his mouth.
  • Mood-Swinger: In episode two, Cochran commented on how he would continually switch from angry to nice without warning.
  • The Napoleon
  • Narcissist: Or, as Phillip might say, "narcist".
  • No Indoor Voice: Brandon is always yelling.
  • Odd Friendship: With Cochran. And Erik, for that matter.
  • Papa Wolf: The minute Phillip mentions his kids during the argument, which Philips learns from Steve's argument and Julie's FTC speech, Brandon gets even more upset.
  • Psycho Party Member: Nobody on this show has ever willingly done more to harm their own tribe to the malicious extent that Brandon did. He was constantly angry and on the attack.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Brandon was already cracking from being shunned by his uncle, but Phillip kept saying things to progressively anger him more and more until Brandon decided to destroy the tribe's reward to even the playing field, had a catastrophic meltdown at camp that continued on at Bikal's arrival at the Immunity Challenge, walked away from his tribe in in a fit of rage because he couldn't even stand to be next to them, and left the game having to be held back by Jeff himself because Phillip had made a crack about his kids and Brandon was ready to take a swing at him.
  • Rage Quit: Technically not a quit, as there was a vote, but Brandon's point was that he determined when the tribe voted him out (or as he put it, "I am the author of my fate!"); and he had more than enough rage to make up for the technicality.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives a long winded one to his team especially Phillip before "Tribal Council".
  • Sanity Slippage: Due to the incident after the first reunion show, he has a major one, which causes him to take it out on his team and practically take himself out of the game due to his 'thinking'. One of the examples is Brandon's reason of spilling the rice and beans on purpose is because Phillip was talking nonsense when he came to apologize to him. (Turns out that Brandon's wrong as he did it out of anger to give everyone a reason to vote him out due to his jealousy and dislike of Phillip's attitude).
    • Pet the Dog: Subverted, you have to felt sorry for him for acting like this due to his family issues and want to be accepted by becoming a real man. Had he not been giving much pressure after the first reunion he would be a bit nicer and less 'angry' at others.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Brandon uses many curse words. Seems to be part of his regular vocabulary.
  • Spin-Offspring: Well, he is the nephew of Russell Hantz.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: Brandon received the most screen time out of anyone.
  • Suicide by Cop
  • Tattooed Crook: Brandon has various tattoos all over his body.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Brandon became a father during his teens.
  • Thanatos Gambit
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!: In his final episode, almost every time he speaks to Philip.
  • Token Evil Teammate
  • Took a Level in Dumbass
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Thanks to his family problems after Survivor South Pacific and in the show being in a minority alliance without Coach to sooth his rage.
  • Zen Survivor

->From: Brooklyn, New York
Shamar was born Sep 27,1985. His hometown is Brooklyn, New York. He is a Marine non-commissioned officer, Iraq War veteran and a player for Gota.

  • Anti-Villain: It is strongly implied that his foul attitude was caused by his experiences in Iraq.
  • Asshole Victim: The audience was not very sympatheic toward him.
  • Bald of Evil: He's a major antagonist and he's bald.
  • Beard of Evil: Shamar acts like a villain and he sports a healthy beard.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Shamar is very brash, cocky, boisterous and blunt. His attitude has turned off a lot of people.
  • Brooklyn Rage: Shamar is a very foul and volatile personality and he hails from Brooklyn, New York.
  • The Brute: He's a big guy with a very foul and aggressive attitude.
  • The Bully: Shamar has a very aggressive and mean spirited attitude and he comes across as very intimidating.
  • Crying Wolf: Shamar complained about his condition so much that when he brought up a piece of sand scratching his eye, Matt and Eddie both dismissed it immediately. The next day, however, his condition was severe enough to warrant evacuation.
  • Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead: For Reynold, at least.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: To Reynold and Eddie.
  • Eye Scream: Why he got eliminated.
  • Fat Bastard: He's physically out of shape. It's interesting how he could be a soldier and not be physically fit and athletic.
  • Four Is Death: Was the fourth contestant evicted from the game and was evicted because of an Eye Scream.
  • Freudian Excuse: See Anti-Villain.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes
  • Game-Breaking Injury: Scratched his eye badly enough while laying in the shelter causing it to swell up the next day and forced him to be medevaced due to concern about losing his vision.
  • Griefer: He stated in his pre-game interviews that his main strategy would be to make camp life miserable.
  • Jerkass: Sherri viewed him the way Natalie White viewed Russell Hantz back in Samoa. Also see Lazy Bum.
  • Large Ham: Shamar has a very dramatic, grandiose and over the top personality. It's understandable why his personality rubs many people the wrong way.
  • Lazy Bum: 19 hours in the hut?
  • The Load: He's a terrible competitor and he's very lazy. He doesn't contribute much of value at camp either.
  • No Indoor Voice:
"LET IT BE CHILDISH! LET IT BE CHILDISH! LET IT BE CHILDISH! LET IT BE CHILDISH!"
  • Paper Tiger: A grain of sand in his eye was enough to put him out.
  • Retired Badass: Shamar is a veteran who served in Iraq.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Shamar's foul attitude could be attributed to him suffering from PTSD due to traumatic events he experienced while serving in Iraq.
  • Spanner in the Works: His evacuation ruined Sherri's plans to bring take him to the finals as her perfect scapegoat. It also led to Reynold and Eddie surviving the vote and reaching the merge and jury phase, giving them the chance to plant even more dissent between her and everyone else.
  • Spear Counterpart: Of NaOnka Mixon from Nicaragua.
  • Tattooed Crook: Shamar has tattoos located in various parts of his body and he's one of the more villainous personalities this season.
  • Token Evil Teammate
  • Younger Than He Looks: He certainly doesn't look like he's only 27.

Allegiance: Bikal (Favorites)
Born: November 3, 1973 (age 39)
From: Brooklyn, New York

Francesca was born Nov 3, 1973. Her hometown is Brooklyn, New York. She is an attorney, alumna from Redemption Island (and its very first to be evicted, at 18th place) and a player for Bikal, who desired to redeem herself for her early exit back in her original season. Unfortunately, she was perceived as a threat by the majority of Bikal due to her scheming, and was consequently voted out first... again.

  • Black Chick Gets Voted Out First
  • Born Winner: Inverted.
  • Butt-Monkey/The Chew Toy: Poor girl seemed absolutely heartbroken to be the first one gone a second time.
  • Eliminated By Genre Savviness
  • Epic Fail: Now has the distinction of being the only person to be voted out first twice.
  • Foreshadowing: See Tempting Fate below.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: She had a pretty good blindside set up to take advantage of the number of players who disliked Phillip. To which he did... nothing. No scrambling, no hasty deals, just a smug little smile. This drove Francesca to assume Phillip had an Immunity Idol, which threw her into a panic, including deciding to split the votes to take out a player she expected to be on her side, Andrea. A few choice words from Phillip in Tribal Council ended up provoking her to flat out admit she was now absurdly paranoid.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Quoth her immediate post-elimination response...
    "Again!"
  • Shocking Elimination: In-Universe. The Gota crowd was shocked to see her gone.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog: The first and only player in Survivor history to be voted out first, twice. To add insult to injury, it was once again because of her nemesis, Phillip.
  • Tempting Fate: Mentioned several times that there was no way she'd be leaving first for a second time.
