Goetia Royalty

Demons that are part of the Ars Goetia caste.

    open/close all folders

    In General
  • 0% Approval Rating: Striker refers to Goetia as rich and pompous, the reaction from the Wrath Ring Imps to Stolas and his speech at the Harvest Moon festival (scowls and booing) further implies that the Goetia are reviled, at least by the lower castes of demons.
  • Adaptation Species Change: The demons of Ars Goetia were all stated to be Fallen Angels, but the Goetia of the show appear to have been born demons and have no relationship to Heaven in any form.
  • Aerith and Bob: They range from having names like Stolas or Asmodeus to Stella and Octavia. Downplayed though, as the latter two names are still unusual, but are at least heard of.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: As powerful as Overlords like Alastor, Vox, Valentino, and Velvette are, they are still just glorified sinners. At the very least, an official source has confirmed that Stolas trumps Alastor in both rank and actual infernal power. It's unclear if only the 72 demons from the Ars Goetia are this powerful, or if Stella and Octavia are extremely powerful as well. However, the bigger fishes to most of the Goetias are the Seven Deadly Sins who rule each of Hell's circles. One of the sins is Asmodeus, a Goetia who already outranked Stolas (Asmodeus is a king and Stolas is a prince), but being one of Lucifer's direct subordinates only increases his power. Angelic weapons are also the only thing capable of permanently killing a Goetia, just like Sinners.
  • Animal Motifs: So far, all the confirmed Goetia demons have been birds — Stolas, Paimon and Octavia are owls, Stella and Andrealphus are peafowl, and Asmodeus is a rooster.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: "The Circus" revealed that, once a Goetia is old enough to join the ranks and get their own grimoire, they're immediately engaged off to produce more "precautionary heirs", no matter if there's little to no love involved. Stella's threats also imply that every Goetia keeps each other under watch and have the power to severely damage another, either socially or in other ways, despite them pretty much being relatives.
  • Blue Blood: Goetic demons constitute one of the top tiers in Hell's hierarchy, just below the Seven Deadly Sins, which are just below King Lucifer and his family. They even outrank Overlords.
  • Cool Crown: Several Goetia wear crowns or tiaras as part of their official attire, and some chose to combine it with other sorts of headwear. Asmodeus, likely the highest ranking Goetia shown, due to being one of the Seven Deadly Sins, is ironically the only Goetia shown not to wear a crown.
    • Stolas has a crown around his top hat.
    • Octavia wears a small tiara over her beanie.
    • Stella opts for a small tiara.
    • Fitting his ice theme, Andrealphus wears a tiara that looks like an ice crystal.
    • There's an elaborate crown resting on Paimon’s brow.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: The Goetias serve as the aristocracy underneath the actual rulers of Hell and above the Overlords, who are more akin to crime lords.
  • Dysfunctional Family: Stolas is clearly unhappy with Stella and resorts to having affairs with Blitzo. Stella is aware of this and is always yelling at her husband for it, until it's revealed that she hates him so much that she ended up hiring a hitman on him. The former clearly loves their daughter Octavia (Stella's feelings are currently more ambiguous), but Stolas' obliviousness, cheating and constant arguments with Stella caused her to become somewhat alienated from them. It's implied that by the end of “OZZIE’S” and outright stated in “The Circus”, they're separated and about to get a divorce.
  • Feathered Fiend: All the confirmed goetic demons seen thus far are all very avian in appearance, Stolas and his daughter look like owls, Stella and her brother Andrealphus look like peacocks, and Asmodeus has a heavy rooster Animal Motif. Additional Goetia in the series have take the shape of cranes, parrots and ravens. One derogatory term for them as a group is even "Birds". This likely comes from the fact that many of the demons described in the Ars Goetia takes the form of birds, including stork, crane, crow, owl, vulture, peacock and phoenix.
  • The Ghost: While a few of the original Ars Goetia have been seen in the series, both Amon and Barbatos have only been mentioned on Charlie's phone contacts in the "Hazbin Hotel" episode "Dad Beat Dad".
  • Holy Burns Evil: In "The Harvest Moon Festival", it's mentioned that the only thing that can hurt demon royalty — Stolas the prime example of the episode — are Heavenly weapons.
  • Kryptonite Factor: In "Western Energy" it's revealed that heavenly weapons can also be a bit of a kryptonite to Goetia as well, as Stolas, when bound by a holy powered lasso, found himself powerless when facing Striker, unable to use magic against the cowboy assassin. Lampshaded by Striker "Don't bother trying to use your little eye trick on me; those ropes ain't gonna let you do anything" followed by Stolas kicking him in the face, showing that it's only a goetia's magical powers that are affected, not physical prowess.
  • Original Generation: Stella and Octavia, as there's no mention of Stolas having a wife or daughter in the source material. Several background Goetias also have no equivalent in demonology, like one who takes the form of a parrot.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: According to Stolas’ flashback to how he was betrothed to Stella, things like forcing a gay man into marriage with a woman for political advantage is commonplace among Hell’s aristocracy.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Stolas, Paimon and Andrealphus all originate from the Ars Goetia but are not stated to be related to each other. In the series, Paimon is Stolas’ father, while Andrealphus is Stolas' brother-in-law.
  • Visual Pun: The Goetia caste is populated by bird-like demons who essentially serve as Hell's aristocracy, which makes them pretty high in the pecking order.

Voiced by: Brock Baker (pilot), Bryce Pinkham (series), Leander Lewis (Child) (English), Foreign VAs

A demon prince taking the form of a long-legged owl who is responsible for granting I.M.P the grimoire required to access Earth. (Un)fortunately for Blitzo, however, the way he initially acquired said grimoire also left Stolas deeply infatuated with him, and he doesn't intend to quit anytime soon.

  • 0% Approval Rating: When he's giving his speech at the Harvest Moon Festival, none of the imps are shown to be pleased to see him. One of them is even heard booing. This most likely has to do with him being royalty, who are well-known for looking down on those of low social status, especially imps.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: The pilot plays into this trope very heavily by having him make an explicit phone call to Blitzo in the middle of the day that leaves him with a Thousand-Yard Stare.
    • However, this is downplayed in the series where Blitzo is more annoyed rather than disgusted by his flirtations, and is heavily implied to care about him deep down.
    • "Truth Seekers" has this Played for Drama a bit, as Blitzo is very much aware of the power imbalance between the two of them, viewing himself during a truth gas-induced Mushroom Samba episode as being in golden chains while a hallucination of Stolas looks over him. It's played for even further drama in "OZZIE'S", where Stolas is finally made aware of how his behavior around Blitzo comes across, especially after Blitzo himself bluntly tells Stolas that he's only ever treated the imp like a glorified boy toy. Needless to say, Stolas is left feeling ashamed of himself.
  • Abnormal Limb Rotation Range: Since he is an owl, Stolas' head can rotate 180 degrees behind him, which foils Blitzo's attempt to Neck Snap him to keep him quiet in "The Circus".
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: The "real" Stolas is simply an owl with extra long legs that borders on being a Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal, while this depiction of him has him fully humanoid with a highly distinguished and dignified appearance.
  • Affably Evil: He is a member of Hell's nobility, not exactly in a position that puts him on the side of “good.” To his credit, however, he's shown to genuinely care about his daughter Octavia, and his Instagram shows that when confronted with a drunk Blitzo, his first instinct was apparently to put him to bed rather than try anything else.
  • Age Lift: In demonology lore, Stolas is a Fallen Angel, putting his age as older than humanity, and apparently had contact with King Solomon. Here, he was a little owlet 25 years ago, making him significantly younger than that.
  • Aggressive Submissive: Despite calling up Blitzo about sex, a good deal of his comments are about Blitzo being inside of him. "The Harvest Moon Festival" starts with him and Blitzo having just finished up a BDSM session... where he was the one tied up. In "OZZIE'S", while calling him out for treating him like a sex object, Blitzo explicitly describes their arrangement as Stolas wanting Blitzo to fuck him rather than just Stolas wanting to fuck Blitzo.
  • The Alcoholic: He drinks absinthe (80-90% alcohol). This is understandable, given the amount of emotional abuse that Stella dishes out at him.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Several pictures on his Instagram show him being obliviously embarrassing to his daughter Octavia. He also likes to post Octavia's baby pictures and gush about how cute she was as an owlet. Octavia is less than amused when he does this.
  • Anger Born of Worry: After possessing Agent Two and all of the corpses of the dead D.H.O.R.K.S. agents to create a summoning circle for himself and scaring the life out of Agents One and Two, he checks in on I.M.P to make sure that they're all okay, especially Blitzo, and after ensuring that they're all well, he dresses them down for getting caught, and then summarily opens a portal back to Hell for them.
    Stolas: Are you alright?
    Blitzo: Ugh, I'm fine, Stolas.
Stolas: Hmm, good. HOW THE FUCK did you get caught by humans?! Are you little creatures not being careful up here? You know, if you get in trouble, I get in trouble, WE don't want that!
    • This comes up again in "Seeing Stars" when Octavia runs away to the human world with his Grimoire, breaking into the I.M.P office in his scary form and ranting to I.M.P how they missed someone breaking in and stealing from them.
  • Animalistic Abomination: He's an anthropomorphic owl demon, and while not as blatant about the eldritch side of himself as other examples, the fact that he’s powerful enough to kill an attempted kidnapper by simply glaring at him, along with being able to survive in deep space with no issues whatsoever, indicates something very off about him as a whole. The eldritch part comes out in full during "Truth Seekers" when he manifests as a giant shadowy owl that fills the whole room, his four glowing eyes becoming extra prominent, walking with his wings like a Wyvern, and having a beak lined with needle-like fangs.
  • Arranged Marriage: "The Circus" confirms that he and Stella were arranged to be married while still children.
  • Awful Wedded Life: His marriage with Stella is anything but happy; "Loo Loo Land" shows him getting into what is implied to be yet another fight with his wife over his affairs. It's implied at the end that it was bad long before he started sleeping with Blitzo, and that they never really loved each other to begin with. He himself also has an affair which becomes increasingly in the open (which he himself comes to acknowledge is hurtful). "The Harvest Moon Festival" reveals that it's deteriorated to the point where Stella hired a hitman to kill him. It appears this is no longer the case come "OZZIE'S", but here it's instead suggested that the two of them have finally separated. By "The Circus", Stolas outright tells Stella that he only stayed with her for their daughter and wants Stella out of his life.
  • Bad Boss: Probably not to the extent that Stella is but in "Seeing Stars", he's seen absentmindedly violently squeezing his butler while arguing with Stella on the phone. You can see the growing discomfort in the imps' face as he tries breathe and is swung around excessively.
    • Also in "Loo Loo Land", he shows no empathy towards his butler's injuries when Stella threw him during their fight.
  • Badass Bureaucrat: Stolas is an avid reader and was a dutiful student to perform his role as a member of the Goetia Royalty. He demonstrates his speed reading skills and his knowledge of Hell's legal system in "Oops" by reading the contract Crimson demanded that Asomdeus sign to ensure the safe return of Fizzaroli. Not only does he spot how the deal wouldn't even give Fizz back to Ozzie, he's able to revise the entire enormous stack to ensure the new contract only gave the kidnapper the bare minimum to ensure Fizz's safe return.
  • Badass in Distress: Subverted. He hires I.M.P to act as his "bodyguards" while spending the day at Loo Loo Land, but never actually seems bothered whenever he actually does get attacked by assassins. In fact, the one time he gets attacked when no one from I.M.P is around, he casually kills the attacker himself with a look, implying hiring I.M.P had less to do with any fear of danger than it did with having an excuse to hang out with Blitzo.
    • Played straight as of "Western Energy," where Stolas is kidnapped by Striker early on in the episode and spends the remainder at the imp's mercy due to the use of holy weapons and holy ropes that cancel out Stolas' powers. The best Stolas can do is kick at Striker and verbally antagonise the imp; by the time Millie and Moxxie run Striker off, Stolas has passed out from his injuries and must be rushed to intensive care.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: He and his daughter can apparently breathe in the vacuum of space on a planet with no atmosphere. In "Loo Loo Land", Stolas wakes up to console a young Octavia of the nightmare she just had by singing her a lullaby. He uses the grimoire to transport them into space where they both witness meteors crashing into planets, planetoids breaking up, and even a star going supernova before he brings her back to tuck her into bed.
  • The Beautiful Elite: A high-class demon, and a looker at that. He lampshades this in "Loo Loo Land", explaining that his family's money and bodies are reasons for being targeted by potential assailants. His daughter Octavia believes it's only the former, to which he tells her to speak for herself.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: With how dramatic, pompous, and lustful he acts, it's easy to forget he's a powerful prince of Hell who can turn demons to stone with a simple glare. In a BLM charity livestream, Vivienne has even said that, although their powers work differently, Stolas is even more powerful than Alastor. He displays this in full force during the climax of "Truth Seekers", where he saves I.M.P with an utterly pants-shitting entrance akin to a horror film.
  • Birds of a Feather: He has this dynamic with Blitzo. Both are very emotionally insecure demons who are also parentally challenged fathers who nonetheless try to dote on their daughters. Both also happen to be looked down upon by a romantic partner, former or otherwise (Stella for Stolas, Verosika for Blitzo). Both also self-sabotage their romantic relationships, intentionally or otherwise (Stolas is never honest to Blitzo about the genuine love he has for the Imp, who thinks he is merely the Goetia demons' sex toy, while Blitzo subconsciously pushes away others out of self-loathing).
  • Blue Blood: He's a high ranking royal within Hell's hierarchy with the power and charisma to match.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: For as much tension as his affair with Blitzo caused, he does genuinely care about Octavia and wants the best for her, which is why he tried his hardest to endure his terrible marriage with Stella for so many years. In contrast, Paimon was constantly neglectful, resented even having to pay attention to him, and saw nothing wrong with marrying Stolas off to Stella without his consent.
  • Breakout Character: Stolas was in the pilot for all of two minutes, and he's billed on the wiki as a "Major Supporting Character". Despite that, he has more focus episodes than Loona and Millie combined, despite them being billed as actual main characters.
  • Broken Bird: "The Circus" reveals that he used to be an adorable owlet. Years of neglect from his father and Domestic Abuse from Stella have left him a weak willed husk of a demon who regularly takes antidepressants (which are made especially for him) and can barely stand up to his wife.
  • Bumbling Dad: While there's no question that Stolas loves Octavia, he doesn't understand her and well-intentioned attempts to bond with her rarely work out. It's not just because she's a teenager, since he also assumed she loved Robo Fizz's show as a little girl when it really scared her to tears.
  • Bunnies for Cuteness: When Octavia was a little owlette, Stolas wore a pair of bunny slippers around the house.
  • Camp Gay: He has been in love with Blitzo ever since they were children and can be quite flamboyant. One Instagram post shows him getting a makeover from Octavia, including blush and false eyelashes.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: The end of "OZZIE'S" very heavily implies that Stolas does view his relationship with Blitzo as being more than just transactional sex. Unfortunately, he's unable to properly put it into direct words, and he just stops trying entirely after Blitzo tells him there's nothing more between them, likely realizing just how much this lapse in communication has badly colored Blitzo's perception of their relationship.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Andrealphus makes Stella put her hit on Stolas on hold due to the fact that all of the assets would go to Octavia if Stolas was killed during their divorce proceedings. This is with the implicit promise that Stolas will be open to assassination after the divorce is sorted out.
  • Caring Gardener: In one Instagram post, he is shown to have a garden which he personally tends to. He also gives Moxxie advice on growing sunflowers. In "Loo Loo Land", he's shown to have several plants about the palace and affectionately hand-feeds a large carnivorous plant a slab of steak. This is a case of Shown Their Work, as the mythological Stolas was known for possessing knowledge of poisonous plants and herbs.
  • Censored for Comedy: A lot of his dialogue is filled with bleeps, especially when he describes what he wants to do with Blitzo (or vice versa) in great detail. He is the only character so far to be enforced with this, and notably the F-word is left uncensored whenever he's not using it in the context of sex.
  • Cerebus Retcon: His earlier Depraved Homosexual moments which were Played for Laughs are hit hard by this in "Loo Loo Land". Not only is his wife angry with him sleeping with someone else, especially someone who is also Hell's equivalent of a peasant, his daughter is living in a broken home while constantly fearing that her father will leave her for Blitzo. "Truth Seekers" and "OZZIE'S" also reveal that his Abhorrent Admirer antics towards Blitzo have left the imp feeling like he's nothing more than his sex object, which is what keeps their relationship from actually developing despite Stolas very clearly actually being in love with Blitzo. In addition, it's heavily implied that his even more perverted side was due to him still being on the high from having experienced actually emotionally fulfilling sex for the first time in his life as opposed to him teasing Blitzo.
  • Character Blog: He has an Instagram account called daddy_hoothoot.
  • Character Development: After the events of "OZZIE'S", Stolas finally begins talking back to Stella rather than just shirk away like he usually does when she's hurling her abuse at him to the extent that he finally decides to go through with divorcing her. Also, after Blitzo calls Stolas out for his demeaning treatment of him whenever they're in public, Stolas calls him by his actual name with the silent "O" as opposed to "Blitzy", which Blitzo always felt was an Embarrassing Nickname.
  • Characterization Marches On: He was a far more menacing presence in the pilot and "Murder Family", launching into filthy Cluster F Bombs and cutting a sexual deal with Blitzo despite knowing the latter was in danger and thus not in a position to protest. His later appearances play him as more Innocently Insensitive than malicious, and stress that for all his many flaws, his utter adoration of Blitzo and Octavia is sincere. In the Pilot, he also was seen contacting Blitzo to kill a politician so climate change gets worse and damns more people to Hell, but in the series proper, there's no indication he sows corruption on Earth or even does anything that malicious for that matter.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: A very complicated version of this with Blitzo, who he's revealed in "The Circus" to have met and gotten along with very well when they were both children, despite Blitzo having secretly been sent to Stolas's home to rob the place. He clearly wants this to be a straight example between the two of them, but the transactional nature of their sexual encounters has left their actual relationship incredibly strained.
  • Complaining About Rescues They Don't Like: In “Loo Loo Land”, Stolas response to being "saved" from a tiny imp assassin by Millie instead of Blitzo is to complain that his "knight in shining armor" wasn't the one to do so.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Stolas is this to Alastor. Both take the role of a prominent demon who acts as the main organization's mysterious and powerful but maligned, mistrusted and resented benefactor. But that's where the similarities end. Alastor is chummy and informal young demon lord that raised through the ranks using his massive natural power, but Stolas is an aloof and refined ancient noble demon that plays politics. Alastor is generally very outgoing, cheery, loud and exuberant but revels in using quiet, Tranquil Fury to get his point across when he's serious, while Stolas is a quiet, stoic and subdued individual who gets loud and graphic when he wants people to pay attention or if he sees something he wants. To say nothing of the difference in how they got involved with the protagonists, their sex drives and sexual preferences, what with Alastor getting roped in Charlie's plan because he wants to see her fail miserably, is asexual and briefly gets disturbed at an offered blowjob before laughing it off, while Stolas ropes himself into Blitzo's plans because he is romantically interested in Blitzo and due to being a Depraved Homosexual is so into the idea that his spiel ends up getting a Cluster Bleep-Bomb to the point of creeping out the target of his affections (at least in the pilot).
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Foppish personality and infatuation with Blitzo aside, he is still a prince of hell and the end of "Loo Loo Land" implies that he is more than capable of protecting himself - something "Truth Seekers" showcases directly.
  • Crush Blush: As a child, when watching the circus and Blitzo appears, Stolas gains a small blush across his face. When Blitzo is brought to his palace to be his playmate, Stolas blushes again.
  • Crystal Ball: Uses the bubbles in his bath to scry on Blitzo, calling him up to renegotiate their deal while Blitzo himself is very clearly not in a position to talk. Stolas either doesn't notice or doesn't care as long as he can get Blitzo to agree to his terms.
  • Cute Owl: Just like his daughter, Stolas was adorable as a little owlet.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Zig-zagged. He's a demon noble whose possible true form is a Living Shadow Animalistic Abomination is very much an Affably Evil Anti-Villain, a good parent to his daughter Octavia, and a very loving and compassionate person when you're on his good side who pets WAY more dogs than he kicks. For example, in "Truth Seekers" he spares the last two surviving agents without harming them beyond a scare.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Stolas is a major supporting character, but his relationship with his daughter, Octavia, is the main focus of the second episode, "Loo Loo Land".
  • Deadly Gaze: Can turn someone into stone with his eyes if sufficiently annoyed.
  • Deal with the Devil: Is implied to be a "dealmaker" like Alastor. And in "Murder Family" he presents Blitzo with a positively Faustian bargain when the imp has no time to argue with him.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: While already hinted at when said archetype was revealed, a major part of his character arc deconstructs the Sympathetic Adulterer concept. His miserable marriage that is heavily implied to be something he reluctantly got into, with "The Circus" confirming that it was an Arranged Marriage, provides an understandable reason for wanting to look elsewhere for romance and companionship, but having a fling with Blitzo while being married with a daughter has increasingly been shown to be ruining his life, as despite his craving for love, the affair is directly contributing to the deteriorating marriage that makes both him and Octavia miserable, and as a Hell noble his status degrading due to how loving an imp reflects badly not only on his estranged wife but his precious daughter too.
  • Defiant Captive: Absolutely refuses to give Striker any respect during "Western Energy", despite knowing full well that Striker is planning to execute him; he laughs off the various abuses done to him as not holding a candle to what he gets up to with Blitzo, and calling out his hypocrisy on being a Bomb Throwing Anarchist who works for Stella.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: Like the Ars Goetia demon he's based after, he's a prince of Hell.
  • Demonic Possession: "Truth Seekers" reveals he has this ability when he possess Agent Two and uses corpses to make a summoning circle.
  • Depraved Homosexual: The pilot plays him up to be this, as he sends a request for Blitzo to kill a politician on Earth who was trying to prove that global warming exists and flirt with him in an explicit manner.
  • Deuteragonist: More than even the other I.M.P members, Stolas gets near as much focus as Blitzo and half of the personal conflict in the story revolves around his rocky relationships with Blitzo and his family.
  • Didn't Think This Through: It's revealed in "The Circus" that Blitzo and Stolas had a very impulsive affair that hinted that Stolas thought something much more was going to come out of what started off as a one-night stand. However, this didn't happen, and Stolas was left with the consequences of his actions.
  • The Dog Bites Back: At the end of "The Circus", Stolas finally has enough of Stella, standing up to her abuse and calling out her shitty behaviour before finally announcing he's ready to finalize their divorce.
    • He's still biting back by the beginning of "Seeing Stars", arguing with Stella over the phone and telling the movers with relish not to be careful when loading Stella's property into the moving truck, intentionally making sure Stella can hear him talking. Unfortunately, this gets Deconstructed due to the fact that he was so distracted with the verbal spar, he forgot about the promise he made to Octavia to "see the stars", which kicks off the plot by prompting Octavia to steal his grimoire from I.M.P so she can see them by herself.
  • Doting Parent: He adores his daughter Octavia.
  • Downfall by Sex: It's been shown steadily through the show how Stolas' life is progressively going south thanks to his decision to lend the grimoire to Blitzo in exchange for sex. His deteriorating but stable marriage has fallen down, his daughter is resentful of him, he's risking his family's reputation and his own life is at the mark of a hitman. "OZZIE'S" finally made it clear onto his face just how much he screwed over his life just "for a thrust".
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: "Loo Loo Land" and "Truth Seekers" established him as a demon prince with incredible magical abilities, so when he's at the center of the plot in later episodes he tends to lose access to his magic so he can't solve it in ten seconds.
    • In "Seeing Stars" his powers are limited while on the mortal plane, using most of it on a human disguise spell.
    • In "Western Energy" Striker lassos him with an Angelic rope, effectively rendering him helpless.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • Despite being a prince of Hell, Stolas has repeatedly shown both on Instagram and in the series proper that he absolutely adores his daughter Octavia, always doing his best to try and make her happy, even as his deteriorating marriage cause difficulties for their family.
    • He also shows that, while their relationship is one of transactional sex in exchange for his grimoire (and is seemingly one-sided), Stolas feels genuine affection for Blitzo, as he's shown to be much happier around the imp than with his wife. He thinks nothing of calling Blitzo "my darling Blitzy" in front of a large crowd and indeed, had to assure Octavia that he had no intentions of running off with Blitzo forever. At the end of "OZZIE'S", Stolas genuinely tries to comfort Blitzo after they're both humiliated by Fizzarolli and Ozzie and is hurt when Blitzo accuses him of just wanting to have sex with him again.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • His Instagram shows him happily going to see Blitzo with dirty thoughts clearly in mind, realizing Blitzo is drunk, and tucking him into bed with water and some aspirin. He reacts very frostily to the implication that he would have done anything else.
    • When a person on Instagram suggested putting a tracker on Blitzo to keep track of him, he refused, stating that doing so would be going too far.
    • Despite being an Abhorrent Admirer to Blitzo, he really doesn't like Valentino, a pimp who abuses his employees and friends, based on various comments made by Stolas on a number of posts found across the various character Instagram accounts. In fact, while he doesn't like the three closely associated overlords (Valentino, Vox, and Velvet) in general, it's Valentino that Stolas has the most scorn for.
Stolas: (on an Instagram post Valentino made where he brags about abusing Vox) No wonder you can't keep a stable relationship.
    • For all of his supposed debauchery and the like, his daughter Octavia is a line he will never cross. In "Loo Loo Land", Blitzo misinterprets Stolas' call for protection to mean that he wants Octavia to be involved in their affair, to which Stolas is both disturbed and a tiny bit angry, prompting to clarify his request.
    • In "The Circus", Stolas makes it clear that he would feel bad about cheating on Stella if she was even the tiniest bit hurt by his actions, but seeing how that is not the case, he doesn't.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: A rare heartwarming example. Blitzo's macabre and bloody sense of humor always fails to elicit any laughs whenever he tries to perform in front of an audience — that is except for Stolas, who cannot help but always crack up at his jokes.
  • Evil Is Petty: The pilot has him wanting Blitzo to kill a human climate change activist to help ensure nothing is done about global warming so more people will die as a consequence of it and end up in Hell. Despite being a powerful demon with a vested interest in sowing chaos on Earth, instead of giving that as his reason for wanting such a thing, he requests it just simply because he's lonely and wants more people in Hell to interact with.
  • Evil Laugh: Can be heard making one while he is summoning himself in "Truth Seekers".
  • Expressive Accessory: The Loo Loo Land hat he wears while visiting the park occasionally changes its expression along with Stolas. Most notably, it is sad when Stolas discards it or notices his daughter crying.
  • Extra Eyes: He has a second pair of eyes on top of his head. These are most apparent whenever he doesn't wear headwear that obscures the fact that he has them.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Stolas has two pairs of eyes, and while one is on his face like normal, the upper half appears to be on his hair.
  • Failed a Spot Check:
    • He personally intervenes to save I.M.P from D.H.O.R.K.S, deciding to spare Agent One and Two, but didn't notice they've all been caught on camera, giving the human world indisputable evidence of the supernatural.
    • Granted, he's probably considerably distracted by the prospect of his first date with Blitzo, but in "OZZIE'S", Stolas reacts with surprise upon realizing the proprietor of Ozzie's is Asmodeus... Despite this being clearly announced by a giant friggin' neon sign on top of the building.
  • Fatal Flaw: Ironically for a powerful demon, it's passivity. When faced with emotional adversity, Stolas' first instinct is to block it out and retreat into whatever can give him short-term pleasure. Though Stella's own flaws didn't help matters, he could've avoided some of the worst consequences of their deteriorating marriage such as Octavia becoming estranged from him out of fear that he'd leave her and Stella outright putting a hit on him had he bothered to be attentive to the developing problems around him. When Blitzo is mockingly called Stolas's sex toy by Ozzie and Fizzarolli in "OZZIE'S", Stolas opts to hide behind his menu in embarrassment rather than spit it out that Blitzo means more to him than just the sex he provides, leading Blitzo to refuse his subsequent attempts to comfort him out of the belief that their relationship only revolves around sex.
  • Feather Motif: Fittingly for a bird demon, "Truth Seekers" has both his arrival in Blitzo's fantasy and his arrival on Earth heralded by feathers—in the former, they're glowing gold feathers that rain from the sky and shackle Blitzo, in the latter, they along with what's suggested to be Stolas' true form are vomited out by Agent Two after Stolas possesses her.
  • Friendless Background: He grew up being a Lonely Rich Kid who had no friends of his own, with his first friend being Blitzo, and only because Paimon paid (very little) Blitzo's family for Blitzo to spend time with Stolas after he found Blitzo's circus performance funny. From what we've seen of his life as an adult, he still doesn't seem to have any genuine friends.
  • Furry Reminder:
    • His family refrigerator has a baggie full of dead mice in it, obviously because they're all owls.
    • Some imp assassins trying to kidnap him place a bag over his head, which is an actual method used to keep birds from getting aggressive.
    • Stolas hoots while sighing, and lets out an avian screech when choking on his cereal in "OZZIE'S”.
    • Also like owls, Stolas can turn his head 180 degrees.
    • In one Instagram post, he admits that he likes eating chicken. This is a reference to how owls eat other birds.
  • Gilded Cage: He refers to his life as this, being unable to be with the man he loves and forced to be with a woman who constantly abuses him, his lavishments and regal status doing not much to silence how bad it all is. The only reason he puts up with it is so that Octavia can have a normal life, and they separate some time before "OZZIE'S". Unfortunately, Blitzo soon after reveals to Stolas that he believes there to be nothing between them, other than Stolas' rampant sexual lust for Blitzo, leaving Stolas with even less than he had before.
  • Good Parents: While definitely not perfect, he tries his best to make his daughter happy: Comforting her with a song when she's scared, attempting to distract her after having caught her parents in a fight, and reassuring Octavia that he has no plans to abandon her when she voices her worries on the matter. That's not even including his Papa Wolf tendencies towards her. That said, best intentions aside - his recent actions, along with her mother's have very much hurt her. Something he clearly regrets in "OZZIE'S", when confronted with her image. "The Circus" reveals that he only stayed with Stella so that Octavia could grow up with a relatively normal life, only going through with divorcing Stella once Octavia's 17.
  • Grew a Spine: He finally has enough of Stella's putdowns and overall abuse and demands a divorce in "The Circus".
  • Hate at First Sight: As a child, he started bawling his eyes out upon being shown a picture of a young Stella by his father. As said picture was of Stella strangling a dog, it's hard to blame him.
  • Heel Realization: Is silently hit with this in "OZZIE'S" after Blitzo tells him that Stolas has only ever treated the imp as a sex object, so he doesn't see anything deeper to their relationship than transactional sex.
  • Henpecked Husband: Or rather Peahenpecked Husband. "Loo Loo Land" implies this is his relationship with his wife, at least following being outed in his affair. Notably, while Stella is busy shouting loudly at Stolas for cheating on her with an imp, Stolas doesn't raise his voice to counter hers but rather meekly alternates between downplaying his actions and trying to calm her down. Even when she outright demands her husband's death, it's shown that he tunes her out as well. He finally puts his foot down in "The Circus", telling Stella he's ready to make their divorce official so she can finally get out of his life.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Based on some posts his Instagram account, Stolas is very skilled at drawing.
    • "Oops" demonstrates that he's quite knowledgeable about the legal system and contracts, with him ensuring that Ozzie didn't sign anything without understanding its contents.
  • High Collar of Doom: Appropriate for a high lord of Hell, he wears a long, high-collared cape. While it's patterned like a classical royal cape, the fluffiness of it also resembles a bird's plumage.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: "OZZIE'S" shows that due to his constant sexual solicitation of Blitzo with no open indication of romantic gestures has left the latter unwilling to view their relationship as anything but purely physical, something Stolas can't bring himself to argue with.
  • Human Disguise: Much like Loona, he's also got a disguise for traversing the human realm. He appears as a tall thin man with gray hair and red eyes, with red sunglasses replacing the second set of eyes above. It's also mentioned in the episode "Seeing Stars" that he can use the Grimoire to give other people human disguises, but not without it.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In "Loo Loo Land", Stolas chides Blitzo and Octavia to watch their language while in the first two episodes, the majority of his dialogue was a Cluster Bleep-Bomb and he just called Blitzo "Big-dicked Blitzy" just seconds beforehand.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: His sole reason for his feelings toward Blitzo. As his marriage to Stella is was heavily implied and later confirmed to be loveless in “The Circus”, he's left wanting a partner who he can find both sexual and romantic fulfillment in, which Blitzo does provide despite the shaky nature of their relationship.
  • Impossibly Cool Clothes: He throws on a cloak that seems have a tiny galaxy inside it for his date with Blitzo in "OZZIE'S".
  • Improbable Age: He was given the grimoire and, therefore, initiated as a Goetia and informed of his betrothal when he was around 6-8 years old.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: In "Oops", when he’s presented with a stack of contract papers that’s several feet high, Stolas can't help but clap his hands giddily with a huge excited smile on his face.
Stolas: Oooohuhuhu! This will be fun! I love words.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • During "Loo Loo Land", he attempts to distract Octavia from their awful home life by taking her to Loo Loo Land. Problem? a) She's too old for it and repeatedly tells him so, b) he brings along the man he's cheating on her mother with and constantly flirts with him right in front of her. Octavia is eventually driven to tears over it, and Stolas apologizes at the end of the episode.
    • Stolas does have genuine romantic feelings for Blitzo, but his childish baby-talk while flirting and insistence on calling him by his pet name "Blitzy" even in public, makes it seem like he doesn't respect Blitzo. To the point that in "The Harvest Moon Festival", when Striker offers his We Can Rule Together spiel, one of the offers he makes is to help Blitzo not rely on the noble who "treats [him] like a plaything". In "OZZIE'S", he's left to face the brunt of the consequences for this when Blitzo flatly tells him that he thinks Stolas has only ever been interested in having sex with him. The look on Stolas' face afterwards indicates that it only set in then how his behavior around Blitzo has come across to everyone else.
    • He's not really malicious, but he's also rather bad at considering the feelings of anyone else around him, blithely operating under the impression that if he's having fun, everyone else is or will be. His apology to Octavia for behaving this way suggests he wants to do right by those he cares about, but will only do so after he can no longer deny that there's a problem.
  • Insistent Terminology: Calling his magical book a "grimoire", presumably its proper title. He even corrects Blitzo, who calls it just a book.
  • Irony: Stolas doesn't seem to realize that, by the mere fact of being a Goetia Prince and the owner of the book key to I.M.P's mere existence, he's subjecting Blitzo to the same powerlessness that he himself suffered in his life.
  • Jerkass to One: As noted above, pretty much the only person to elicit true hatred from him is Valentino. Be it his abusive attitude or massive ego, Valentino really gets under his skin.
  • Large and in Charge: Is twice as tall as Blitzo. He is also one of the most powerful authority characters in the overall setting barring Lucifer, his family and the Exorcists. Even with other higher ranking Goetia like Paimon and the Seven Deadly Sins like Asmodeus outranking him, his position as a Prince still puts him in the middle of the Goetia hierarchy and part of Hell's one percent. Then again, Blitzo, being an imp, is also short.
  • Large Ham: Stolas, being royalty frequently indulges in luscious wordplay in public situations and especially with Blitzo.
  • Lean and Mean: Is impossibly thin and ordered a hit on a politician who says that global warming exists in the pilot.
  • Leitmotif: "Stolas Speaks," an enchantingly haunting piano piece that switches to a more orchestral, brassy version depending on Stolas's mood — such as when he petrifies a demon attacking him during an emotional scene, or when he possesses the corpses of government agents to summon himself onto Earth.
  • Lie Back and Think of England: Implied to be a male example. Stella claims that Stolas would just lie there while she did all the work during sex and gleefully tells all her friends about it to humiliate him, as she sees it as proof of him being a pathetic man and a terrible lover. It's unknown if this is due to Incompatible Orientation, if he's that resentful of his Arranged Marriage to her, or if Stella's just being particularly bitchy.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: Stolas may be a member of a demonic royal family, but he is a fairly decent person for all his bumbling and various flaws as long as you don't threaten his loved ones.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son:
    • He may share Paimon's quirks like his liking for carnivals and being a Disneyland Dad when he doesn't know what to do with his child on top of being Sophisticated as Hell, but he couldn't be farther from him when it comes to caring for Octavia, making sure to have only one child who he sincerely cares about and dotes on.
    • Stolas is outgoing and energetic, compared to Octavia being much more soft-spoken, even when happy. When Octavia is upset she retreats into her music and becomes withdrawn even around others, where Stolas ignores his problems, only dealing with them when they come to a head.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: He had a lonely childhood growing up in the Goetia family, with uncaring imp servants as his only company. Even his neglectful father took notice of this and decided to "buy him a friend" in the form of Blitzo, the circus performer Stolas found funny.
  • Love at First Sight: In "The Circus", we see Stolas as a kid blushing when he sees Blitzo for the first time while watching his circus performance.
  • Love Hungry: The main reason why his and Blitzo's relationship is toxic on his end. After a loveless marriage and an implied to be equally loveless childhood, Stolas turns to Blitzo for intimacy. It's this focus on getting affection that causes the prince to neglect giving affection to Blitzo, stagnating the unequal and transactional partnership.
  • Marriage of Convenience: "The Circus" reveals that his marriage was an Arranged Marriage with both of them knowing full well that they were only married with the intention of producing an heir to the Goetia family. After they had Octavia, their union quickly became a Sexless Marriage.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Implied by Paimon needing to be reminded which of his many kids Stolas was.
  • Meal Ticket: "The Harvest Moon Festival" clearly states that Blitzo's company is able to exist at all thanks to having Stolas as his sugar daddy. While Stolas doesn't give him any monetary assistance, he's the owner of the grimoire that's pretty much the backbone of I.M.P.
  • Melancholy Musical Number: He sings "Stolas Sings" in "The Circus", which has him reflecting on the pitiful state of his life and how his attempt to find love in the form of Blitzo has backfired considerably on him.
Prince, all alone, upon your throne
    Your power is so frail
    You raise your voice
    You have no choice
    Inside your gilded jail
  • Mirror Character: It gradually becomes apparent that Stolas and Blitzo are more alike than either realizes — both had neglectful, borderline abusive fathers, both put on facades of being happy when they really aren't, and both secretly want to have a loving relationship but can't due to personal flaws.
  • Modest Royalty: When not performing his royal duties or posing for family portraits, Stolas is shown to be very casual and laid-back. He wears a simple bathrobe and bunny slippers around the house, happily wears Loo Loo Land souvenir clothes at the titular theme park, and his Instagram shows him wearing casual everyday wear as often as he can. This causes a lot of friction with his Socialite wife, who wears a Pimped-Out Dress even at home, as she finds his lack of propriety to be "a goddamn embarrassment!"
  • Monochromatic Eyes: Zig-zagged. His four eyes are a solid red color, but when sufficiently excited or startled, his primary set of eyes gain a pair of little white pupils, though the eyes atop his head remain the same regardless.
  • Morphic Resonance: Invoked. Almost immediately after taking human form, Stolas shoplifted a pair of red sunglasses which he keeps above his brows to mimic the second pair of eyes he has in his true form.
  • Mr. Fanservice: The most overtly sexualised and flirtatious of the male characters, and his human form is shown to be very handsome and attractive, though his tendency to get excessively graphic when he's "flirting" veers into Fan Disservice most of the time.
  • Mr. Vice Guy: What Stolas ultimately is. Earlier episodes certainly play him as a more suspicious and even ominous figure but later episodes show his much nicer and more sympathetic sides. Although he loves Blitzo and his daughter Octavia very dearly, he does have a tendency to be wrapped up in his own emotions to the point where it seems difficult for him to express them, likely due to being lonely and neglected for most of his life. His vice gets to the point where he sometimes doesn't pay attention to how others feel, even those he loves.
  • Mundane Utility: The flashback that starts off "Loo Loo Land" shows that when he had the grimoire, he was quite open to using it for some personal fun when he didn't have a job involving it, such as teleporting himself and a young Octavia to the location of a dying star simply to act as a fitting backdrop for his lullaby to her.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He looks absolutely crushed when Blitzo spells it out for him that Stolas has only ever treated him like a sex toy, so he doesn't see their relationship as anything but giving sex for favors.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Stolas' voice in the pilot is extremely similar to Anthony Head as proven in these clips.
  • No-Sell: Despite Los Angeles' water being 98% acid in this universe, Stolas has no ill effects from chugging a bottle. This same water causes a human to get painful burns when it's splashed on his skin.
  • No Social Skills: He's remarkably lacking in social tact. From continuously failing to recognize how put-off and annoyed by his "flirting" Blitzo is, to his best attempt at defending his cheating from Stella being he didn't have the time to book a motel. In "The Circus", it's revealed Stolas didn't grow up with any friends, and any family members he seems to have outside of his father hardly interacted with him.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: While he mostly comes off as comedically pompous and perverted, he's still one of the most powerful individuals in Hell and was willing to cause millions of deaths out of loneliness in the pilot. "Loo Loo Land" shows just how dangerous he is when he casually petrifies an imp who was trying to attack him. He hammers this in "Truth Seekers", where he possesses Agent Two and forces the corpses of numerous dead agents to draw a pentagram that summons him. Not to mention what's implied to be his true form, an Animalistic Abomination of an owl with four eyes and numerous sets of fangs.
  • Not Helping Your Case: When his wife Stella becomes furious to learn that he slept with an imp in their bed, Stolas tries to reassure her that he only did that because he didn't have time to find a motel. Unsurprisingly, this just makes a Rich Bitch like Stella even more furious.
  • Ominous Owl: Stolas is an owl demon, and is based on the likewise named prince of Hell listed in the Ars Goetia, who's frequently portrayed as a long-legged owl. Meanwhile, his dark plumage and white, heart-shaped facial disc seem mostly based on Sooty Owls, a pair of Australian Barn-Owl species.
  • One-Winged Angel: He's capable of transforming himself into a huge, shadowy monster when the need arises. Whether this is his true form or not is ambiguous.
  • The Owl-Knowing One: He also has an enormous library, and it's because of the grimoire he has that Blitz and I.M.P can get to the human world in the first place. He was also a massive bookworm when he was an owlet.
  • Papa Wolf: Stolas is very protective of Octavia. Despite his own rather perverted nature, he threatened on Instagram that if anyone even thought inappropriate things about his daughter they would beg for death.
    • In "Loo Loo Land", Stolas pretended to be helpless against the kidnapping attempts, up until one threatened his bonding with his daughter, at which point he petrified the imp with just a look.
    • In "The Circus", Stolas tells Stella the only reason he put up with her constant abuse towards him, was so Octavia could grow up with a normal family. However, he finally puts his foot down and tells Stella he has had enough, and he not only wanted her out of his life, but they were getting the divorce.
Stolas: The only reason I have endured your constant insults and cruelty, was for that girl to have a normal life!
    • In "Seeing Stars", Blitz reluctantly calls to inform Stolas that Octavia stole the Grimoire and took off somewhere with it. In mere seconds, Stolas bursts through the door at I.M.P's office in his shadow form, glowing red and snarling in protective fury.
    • In "Western Energy", he furiously tells Striker that he will destroy him if he goes anywhere near Octavia.
  • Paper Tiger: Played With. While he is more than willing to protect Octavia and Blitzo without hesitation, he only does it in moments of a great need for protection. When it comes to confronting anyone of equal standing however, such as Stella or Asmodeus, he doesn't do so much as a word of protest and take the verbal lashing.
  • Parents as People: While he genuinely tries to be a good father to Octavia, he's far from perfect, having to juggle his duties in Hell and his deteriorating marriage alongside that.
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: Inverted. His marriage with Stella was revealed to be arranged in "The Circus", and it was anything but perfect.
  • Pimped-Out Cape: Wears one that's trimmed with fur at the top.
  • Poor Communication Kills: He's all but stated to legitimately be head-over-heels in love with Blitzo, but the fact that he expresses said love by constantly flirting with Blitzo in public and talking inappropriately about their sex life causes Blitzo and others to believe that the imp is nothing more than Stolas' sex toy. It leaves him unable to comfort Blitzo at the end of "OZZIE'S" after the two of them are humiliated in Ozzie's club, as Blitzo doesn't believe there's anything more to their relationship than just sex.
  • Powerful People Are Subs: He's one of the higher class Demons in Hell with some undoubted power behind his demeanor, and it is revealed that Stolas was submissive with both Stella and Blitzo.
  • Precision F-Strike:
    • He yells "fucking" while talking to Blitzo during his obscene rant in the pilot.
    • He does it again in "Truth Seekers" while reprimanding I.M.P for getting caught by D.H.O.R.K.S. This case is particularly noteworthy in that it’s his only time swearing WITHOUT a bleep or Cluster F-Bomb.
    • When Stella angrily asks him what Blitzo falling out of the window and bluntly telling her he fucked her husband meant, Stolas responds by telling her "That was the sound of a FUCKING DIVORCE!"
  • Puppy Love: He was pretty blatantly infatuated with Blitzo when they met as children, in part due to growing up entirely without friends. He then held onto those feelings for the next 25 years, to downright disastrous results.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The two most prominent colors in his appearance are red and black, and he's definitely not a good person, since he's willing to order assassinations with the explicit intent of causing the deaths of even more people.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes at all times are primarily red, and he's a prince of Hell who's implied to be rather high up on the totem pole when it comes to power, at least of the political kind. His eyes also glow a brighter shade of red whenever he gets serious.
  • Rich Bastard: His pilot self was one; casually ordering the assassination of politicians trying to better the world to further a shadowy, malevolent agenda and living in a mansion decorated with giant pictures of himself. Blitzo outright called him "a privileged asshole". In the series proper he's much less interested in flaunting his wealth and status and his poor interactions with the lower classes being more a result of oblivious condescension than outright bigotry.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Asmodeus spots him seated at Blitzo's table and shames his relationship with the imp, Stolas tries to book it for the door without his date — which Blitzo notices and is deeply hurt by — only for Fizzarolli and Asmodeus to force him back into his seat so they can keep mocking him.
  • Selective Obliviousness: When watching a telenovela in season 1 he commiserates with a character wondering why their love interest doesn't love them back, clearly projecting his feelings about Blitzo onto the scenario. It doesn't occur to him that he torpedoed his own chances by coercing Blitzo into a Sex for Services deal and flirting inappropriately, leaving Blitzo with the impression all Stolas wants from him is sex.
  • Sexual Karma: His full passion only comes out with partners he actually likes. He was supposedly terrible in bed with his hated wife Stella, according to her doing nothing more than Lie Back and Think of England, yet is near-immediately willing to try anything with Blitzo, someone to whom he actually feels romantic attraction.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Stolas wears an absolutely fabulous outfit to Ozzie's in "OZZIE'S", the cape of which displays a rolling view of the stars.
  • Shout-Out: His Instagram username might be a reference to Hoothoot, a species of Pokémon.
  • Shown Their Work: If not for certain...quirks, he could have easily been the demon prince described in the Ars Goetia and no one would have noticed the difference:
    • He's a long-legged, owl-like demon with a crown on his hat. The demon that he's named after is often portrayed in art as a long-legged owl wearing a crown.
    • The walls of his castle and corners of his balcony are decorated with the seal associated with Stolas in the Ars Goetia.
    • Him being shown as a Caring Gardener and his mansion being filled to the brim with various Man Eating Plants coincides with the fact that in demonology he is stated to be knowledgeable about herbs and plants.
    • His bathtub is surrounded by moving constellations, and he shows Octavia a dying solar system during his song. The original Stolas teaches astronomy.
    • When he summons himself in "Truth Seekers", the summoning circle is designed exactly like the one described in the Ars Goetia for summoning him.
  • Shrine to Self: His house has a number of portraits of himself scattered along the walls.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: It's implied that his marriage to his wife wasn't exactly based on love, meaning the only character he shows any attraction to is Blitzo. "The Circus" confirms as much as he and Stella were an Arranged Marriage and while Stella "did all the work" when they slept together, Stolas apparently just stared at the ceiling. As a child, Stolas actually had a crush on Blitzo.
  • Sleeps in the Nude: He never seems to wear any clothes to sleep (and he usually is a Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal) and he usually throws on a robe right after getting out of bed.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: He sounds and acts like he has the proper amount of class his position demands... right up until he goes into an overly horny and very graphic rant about what he wants to do with Blitzo.
  • Spare to the Throne: For the Goetia family. He was just one of many Sons, and was married off to sire a "Precautionary Heir" when he was younger.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: In Season 1, Stolas was, while an important character overall, an infrequent presence in the episodes, with only two of the eight episodes focusing on him, and three only having him as a minor element, the rest of the focus given to I.M.P as they took jobs and killed targets. Season 2 however would see Stolas slip into the role of deuteragonist, with four of the first six episodes all involving him in a significant capacity,* with Moxxie and Millie being left somewhat Out of Focus to compensate.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: He suddenly found himself in love with Blitzo, after what it seemed like just a typical deal for the possession of the grimoire, despite or even thanks to being stuck in a rocky (at best) marriage. "Loo Loo Land" revealed his marriage with Stella was deteriorating long before he even met Blitzo, and he confesses to his daughter he did try to make it work with Stella for Via's sake, but he just can't fool his heart anymore. Later episodes make this a bit more complicated, though, as the story puts everything resulting from the adultery in the spotlight and forces Stolas to acknowledge how much he's personally destroying his own life out of being dissatisfied with what he already has. That being said, "The Circus" makes it clear that he and Stella were stuck in an Arranged Marriage and that Stella had always made things miserable despite his efforts to try and make things work, so it's clear that no sympathy is being afforded to his wife in this situation, even making it clear Stella isn't even hurt by him cheating as she doesn't care for him as a person.
  • Taken for Granite: He has the ability of turning lesser demons into stone with just a glare.
  • Thinking Up Portals: While in the flashback for "Loo Loo Land" he was shown needing the grimoire to open portals, when he shows up in "Truth Seekers" he displays the ability to conjure portals at will, implying he memorized the spell enough to do it naturally. This also hints that he engaged in Demonic Possession and cult-style summoning specifically for the terror factor.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Stolas becomes a far kinder, softer, adorkable, and more sympathetic character from Ozzie's and onward. Even though he did show he cared for his daughter in earlier episodes, later ones show how much he is willing to do to find her and he does feel real regret when he inadvertently forgets his promise to her about seeing the stars. He also does nicer things for Blitzo as shown in the episode Oops.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: When he and Blitzo sleep with each other, it always seems to be in some form of BDSM play. Stolas is shown to be more than happy to be the sub in the relationship as shown in "The Harvest Moon Festival" and with the implied bear traps in "Truth Seekers". In "The Circus", he's delighted when Blitzo blindfolds and ties him up (although that was so he wouldn't see Blitzo trying to steal his grimoire), and shrieks in delight when Blitzo bites his neck. It becomes a literal case when Striker captures Stolas in "Western Energy" and he doesn't scream out in pain when Striker repeatedly stabs, abuses and threatens him. All Stolas does in response is to reminisce about how much rougher Blitzo is. It is subverted in the end though; in a moment when Striker isn't looking, Stolas' stalward mask of defiance visibly begins to slip and he starts showing overt signs of exhaustion as he only barely manages to hold himself back from breaking into tears.
  • Too Much Information: Gives outright filthy descriptions of having sex with Blitzo as a closing statement whenever he calls him. It's shown that he got started when he got the impression that Blitzo liked dirty talk and got far too into it.
  • Unequal Pairing: Lampshaded by Striker in "The Harvest Moon Festival", who points out how Blitzo (as a lowly imp) is in a position where he has to have sex with one of Hell's royalty to gain access to the living world to run his business. "Truth Seekers" plays with this further, showing Stolas at the top of a shining staircase Blitzo attempts to ascend, only to be knocked to all fours and forced to crawl the rest of the way, his clown attire transforming away further with each gilded chain Stolas attaches to him. Stolas himself is made aware of it in "OZZIE'S", with Asmodeus mockingly referring to Blitzo as basically being Stolas's new sex toy and Blitzo later spelling it out that Stolas has only ever treated him like a sex object, which leaves Stolas looking ashamed. Attempting to remove some of these issues in order to form a more genuine and equitable relationship with Blitzo is why he goes to Asmodeus in "Oops," hoping to acquire an Asmodean Crystal that will allow Blitzo legal passage to the human realm without needing Stolas' Grimoire.
  • Unmoving Plaid: Stolas wears a cape in Ozzies that uses this to stunning effect, where the inner lining of the cape looks like a window into a starlit night sky.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Owing to his privileged status, Stolas doesn't spare a thought for the struggles his beloved Blitzy faces as the minority dead last in Hell's pecking order. What he takes for good fun and petty taunts are disrespectful and hurtful to an imp who hears it everyday.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Something he shares with Octavia — in his youth, he was adorable and far chipper and more upbeat than he is in the present, where it's clear that he's extremely depressed and empty on the inside. "The Circus" implies that a combination of neglect from his father and Domestic Abuse from Stella did a number on his psyche.
  • Vocal Evolution: In the pilot, he had a Transatlantic accent to go along with his rather baritone, slightly nasal voice. However, after his original voice actor was replaced, in the series proper he has a much higher pitched voice and a straight up British RP accent.
  • Villainous Widow's Peak: His heart-shaped facial disc creates this effect, with his darker plumage plunging to a sharp point between his lower set of eyes.
  • Wicked Cultured: A refined and aristocratic individual who was willing to order assassinations simply to help slake his loneliness in the pilot. That's not to say he can't get crude, however, as shown by his phone calls with Blitzo.
  • Wicked Heart Symbol: His overly-amorous personality is complemented by a white, heart-shaped facial disc characteristic of Barn Owls.
  • Willfully Weak: In "Loo Loo Land", he requests I.M.P to serve as his bodyguards, despite being a demon prince even more powerful than Alastor. He does indeed almost get kidnapped several times, but if his frequent flirting with Blitzo (who is the one who pulls his ass out of danger most of the time), as well as him turning a would-be kidnapper to stone with just a gaze at the end of the episode is any indication, he probably just wanted an excuse to see Blitzo again.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Although Asmodeus is downright praising Stolas for his recklessly passionate infidelity, it's clear Stolas just finds it humiliating, mainly because Asmodeus happily reminded him of how he's alienated his own daughter as a result of it.
  • Your Size May Vary: Downplayed. Stolas is always presented as being much taller than the imps. However, he is shown to be so tall that Blitzo goes up to his legs in "Loo Loo Land" while Blitz is chest high in "Ozzie's". Of course, with his magic, Stolas could potentially be any height he needs to be in the given scenario.

Stolas's teenage daughter.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Her dad calls her "Via", "my little owlette", and "starfire". Interestingly, her uncle Andrealphus also refers to her as "Via".
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She's very sullen and moody, mostly as a way to attempt to cope with the chaos of her home life.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Octavia still cares for Stolas as much as she did in her childhood, but frustration with how difficult he's made their family life has lead to put up a wall of feigned indifference as a coping mechanism. Reflecting this, she wears a dress similar in design to the one she wore as a toddler, but hidden under a dark black cardigan.
  • Brain Bleach: She calls for this on an Instagram post after witnessing her dad accidentally post a horny picture meant for Blitzo to his public account.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: She's something of a brat towards Stolas, being highly annoyed with his constant attempts at bonding with her. "Loo Loo Land" reveals that a lot of this stems from her feelings about her parents' deteriorating marriage.
  • Broken Bird: Octavia was once an adorable little owl, the deteriorating family and marriage hasn't been kind to her. “The Circus” reveals that she's got alot in common with her father in this regard.
  • The Cameo: Briefly appears in "The Circus" during the "25 Years Later" flashback, fast asleep as Blitzo attempts to break into her father's bedroom.
  • Character Blog: She had an Instagram account called gothchk17. It originally went by another name but after the post in which Stolas shared her celebrating her birthday, it was changed. Unfortunately, the manner the art on Octavia's account was being used and how some people were addressing her were making things uncomfortable for the actual real life people running the various character accounts, in particular, the artist who made the pics. In response, all of Octavia's posts were archived and removed. While the initial explanation given for this decision was made in character via Instagram stories from both Octavia and Stolas, the actual people running the accounts apologized for causing a stir and gave proper explanations for what happened, further saying that they're trying to keep the accounts fun and urging people not to harass anyone for what transpired.
  • Character Development: In "Seeing Stars", Octavia is more open with her feelings as she woke up excited on the day she can see Azathoth's tears (the meteor shower) with her father. It also helps now that Stella is out of the house, Octavia doesn't have to hear her parents fight in front of her.
    • Also thanks to Loona, Octavia learns that despite Stolas’ flaws, he still loves her and tries hard to make her happy, which makes Octavia quick to forgive him for forgetting his promise.
  • Character Tics: Whenever Octavia is embarrassed or exasperated, she tends to pull her beanie down over her eyes with a groan, as seen when Stolas decides they should visit Loo Loo Land or when Octavia couldn’t find the literal stars she was looking for in "Seeing Stars" and accidentally ended up on a sightseeing tour of the Hollywood stars instead.
  • Collector of the Strange: Implied, at the end of the "Loo Loo Land", Octavia wants to go to Stylist Occult with Stolas, because they have “weird” taxidermy there. Stolas' subsequent instagram update shows her with said taxidermy, being quite happy holding it.
  • Commonality Connection: In "Seeing Stars", she and Loona end up bonding over their respective issues with their fathers.
  • Cute Bookworm: In a gothic sense of cute, her Instagram account has books that she's currently reading.
  • Cute Owl: She was quite adorable when she was a little girl.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Her debut is also her focus episode that deals with her strained familial relationship with Stolas.
  • Daddy's Girl: Is shown to be much closer to her father than her mother, even worrying that her father would abandon her more than the actual possible divorce her parents may get.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Possibly. She is a demon in hell, is into some rather morbid stuff, and can be a bit of a brat at times( though she has her reasons for that) but there is nothing about her that really overtly evil. She mostly lacks many of the more sinister or otherwise nasty characteristics exhibited by the majority of the rest of the cast.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Appears in a picture in the pilot.
  • Emo Teen: Played With. While she is angry with Stolas for cheating on her mother and throwing her home life into disarray and is embarrassed by his dorky personality, under the snarkiness her relationship with her father is actually very strong. In fact, her main fear is that he will run away with Blitzo and abandon her.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Gender Inverted. Despite her gloomy and cynical personality, she has a strong bond with her father that hasn't wavered in the face of her parents' deteriorating marriage. In fact, she is less concerned with her parents getting a divorce and is more concerned about Stolas abandoning her.
  • Furry Reminder: Her breakfast consists of eating "Greed Seed" out of her hand without milk.
  • Gender Equals Breed: Inverted. Her father is an owl and her mother is a peahen, but she's an owl like her father.
  • Goth: She predominantly dresses in black, reflecting her moody side, outside of a larger version of the pink, star-covered dress she's worn since being a child.
  • Ham and Deadpan Duo: She forms one with her father. Stolas is an extroverted and extravagant Large Ham while Octavia is a withdrawn and sullen Deadpan Snarker.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While a bit rude about how she says it, Octavia is correct in saying that Loo Loo Land reeks of corporate shame and poor management as the park really is just a low quality, bootleg ripoff of Lucifer's Lu Lu World.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Depressed, moody, apathetic, and anti-social due to the state of her home life, but still loves her father (and is presumably a decent person overall) underneath it all.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: A father-daughter example. While Stolas is shown to have an affinity for plants (having a garden he tends to himself and hallways full of carnivorous plants), Octavia seems to have a burgeoning fascination with animals, visiting Stylish Occult for their "weird taxidermy" and buying a fauna book there.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Played With, her dress under all her goth wear is the exact same style she wore as a little child, pink with stars, just without puffy sleeves.
  • Meaningful Name: Octavia is probably named after the minor planet called 598 Octavia.
  • Modest Royalty: As Stolas' daughter, she's technically a minor royal of Hell, although she dresses like a typical teenager, tiara aside.
  • Morality Pet: Slightly regarding Stella and Andrealphus.
    • It's obvious that Stella is not good parenting material, but when it's mentioned that she has weekend custody of Octavia there are never any implications that she mistreats her. Although Stella apparently goes back to torment Stolas so it's implied she doesn't spend that much time with her. Either way, when it's pointed out that Octavia is Stolas's heir, Stella never even considers the idea of having her daughter murdered to get her inheritance. She wants Stolas dead and everything he owns, but she's not killing her only child to accomplish part of that goal.
    • Andrealphus likewise never entertains the idea of getting rid of Octavia when he points out that she is Stolas's heir, and even refers to her by her nickname "Via."
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She has an interest in taxidermy.
  • Nostalgia Filter: Octavia initially believes that her parents' marriage was far happier when she was young and that it is falling apart now due to her father's affair with Blitzo, but Stolas implies that there was never any spark to begin with (which is shown to be the case in "The Circus"). Justified, as it is also implied they tried to hide it for her sake.
  • Ominous Owl: She's an owl demon like her father and grandfather, with her face and plumage reminiscent of Sooty Owls like her father.
  • Only Sane Woman: She has a few of her own quirks and problems, but compared to the rest of her family she's the only one with her head screwed on straight - Stolas is a Loveable Sex Maniac who flirts with Blitzo in public, Stella is a neglectful parent who dishes out Domestic Abuse to Stolas constantly and only stuck around to make him suffer more, Paimon is an Abusive Parent who forcefully married Stolas to Stella yet still thinks he's a good parent and Andrealphus - the second sanest - is described as arrogant, is shown flirting with his sister, and is perfectly happy to help Stella screw Stolas out of as much of his wealth as possible and then kill him for no good reason.
  • Parental Abandonment: Discussed to be her biggest fear, as she is more attached to Stolas than she is to Stella. She worries that her dad would leave her behind, and Stolas assures her that that will never happen.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Gets annoyed with her dad's absent-minded hitting on Blitzo in front of her. Though this is just as much due to angst over her parents' failing marriage as it is out of disgust at the thought of her father having sex.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: She's shown to be on her phone a lot in her dad's pictures on Instagram.
  • Playing with Fire: In "Seeing Stars" Octavia shows she can conjure a small purple flame from her fingers, which can light a cigarette.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Based on the flashbacks in "Loo Loo Land" and the baby pictures Stolas posts on Instagram, Octavia was an extremely adorable little owlet.
  • Short Teens, Tall Adults: She's seventeen and only about half the height of her father Stolas, barely reaching above his hip. She also is only slightly taller than Blitzo.
  • Shout-Out:
    • One of her father's nicknames for her is "Starfire".
    • The pink dress she wears with a yellow star pattern looks similar to Steven's shirt.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Though she acts like a stereotypical surly, brooding teenager, she's deeply upset at her parents' failing marriage and fears her dad will abandon her and run away with his new paramour.
  • Spare to the Throne: As her grandfather put it, the whole reason for her parents' marriage and even Octavia's birth was to produce a spare heir for the Goetia.
  • Stepford Snarker: Her method for dealing with her family's difficulties and other problems she dislikes is by adopting a heavily snarky and sarcastic attitude, especially towards her father.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Between her father and mother, Octavia gets most of her looks from the former. Her eyes are much more her mother's though, not least of which the fact that she only has two.
  • Symbol Motif Clothing: Stars, which goes with Stolas being a master of astronomy and one of her nicknames being "starfire". In "Seeing Stars", the plot is kicked off by Octavia stealing the grimoire so she can see a meteor shower that Stolas forgot to take her to because he was too busy fighting with Stella.
  • Troubled Teen: Her parents' dysfunctional marriage has done a real number on Octavia, enduring their fighting in the morning as though it was a regular thingnote . By the end of "Loo Loo Land", she confesses that she's worried that Stolas's affair would have him leave and she would never see him again.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: She was fairly cute and well-behaved when she was a little girl. Years later, putting up with her parents' rocky, abusive relationship soured her into an Emo Teen.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Compared to her perverted, carefree father and her belligerent, narcissistic mother, Octavia is the serious child to both of her parents.
  • When She Smiles: Most of the time Octavia is either frowning, annoyed or sad, but the few times she smiles are adorable, both as a kid and as a teen.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Octavia was deeply afraid of the Loo Loo Land clown Robo-Fizz as a child, and that fear doesn't seem to have gone away even at 17, having a clearly negative reaction to the idea of having to see him again.
  • Wicked Heart Symbol: Far subtler compared to her father, but she possesses the same heart-shaped facial disc as Stolas. It's clearly visible as a child and when she's just waking up at the start of “Loo Loo Land”, but made much less obvious due to her bangs and beanie covering the widow's peak that forms the top portion.
  • You Are Worth Hell: We see in “The Circus” that not only was Stolas forced to marry at a very young age but how absolutely miserable he was because of it; forced to listen to Stella constantly demean and insult him, having to attend parties he didn't like and trying to live up to being an ideal demonic prince when he neither cared nor even understood why. He is so miserable that the only real way he was able to cope was through drugs and alcohol. He withstood it all though for one reason and one reason only: he wanted Octavia to have a happy carefree life.

"You are a goddamn embarrassment! I'm not spending another moment looking at your pathetic, imp-sucking face!"
Voiced by: Georgina Leahy (English)

Stolas's wife and Octavia's mother. A wealthy socialite and a member of Hell's upper crust, she has little patience for her husband's infidelity.

  • Ambiguous Situation: While she's undeniably a neglectful parent to her daughter, it's unclear if she noticed Octavia walking into the room during her tirade against Stolas and simply didn't care, or did she honestly not notice Octavia and stormed out before she could find out. It's worth noting that Stolas did not notice Octavia until after that point either.
    • It's also unclear whether Andrealphus' implied affections towards her are mutual, or if she's subtly uncomfortable with it but lacks the power and influence to do anything about it. She has little to no reaction to any of the sentences implying this, likely due to being more concerned with Striker and Stolas.
  • Arch-Enemy: She becomes this to Stolas after he cheated on her with Blitzo, and plus, she hires a hitman named "Striker" to kill her husband.
  • Arranged Marriage: Her marriage to Stolas was arranged. Neither of them actually like each other.
  • Art Evolution: Starting with "Loo Loo Land", she's been given a different design and color scheme than how she was initially portrayed in the pilot.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Based on what Octavia expressed, Stella and Stolas can't stand each other anymore and don't bother hiding it. Stolas later admits to Octavia that their marriage has been falling apart long before he started cheating on her with Blitzo. Given further weight when it's revealed that Stella put out a hit on her husband. A flashback in “The Circus” shows that she threw at least one "Not Divorced" party where she openly insulted and mocked Stolas well before he had started his affair with Blitzo.
  • Bad Boss: During a fight with Stolas, Stella picks up an imp servant by the horns and throws him at her husband, a part of her Fantastic Racism/Classism.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals:
    • As opposed to Stolas's Caring Gardener, when Stella learns of Stolas' affair with an imp, she's so furious that she throws several of his carnivorous plants around, causing the pots to shatter and leaving them sorry heaps on the floor.
    • In "The Circus" we see a picture of her as a child, which depicts her strangling a pet shortly after apparently hurting another one.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist of the series. Most of the present day conflicts, as well as the complicated relationship between Blitzo and Stolas, can be traced back to Stella's abuse of her husband in some form or another. Once Stolas' affair comes out, Stella goes on the warpath to ruin his life by hiring Striker to kill him, and the messy divorce proceedings make up the driving arc of the second season. She enters a Big Bad Duumvirate with her brother Andrealphus in "Western Energy" to bleed Stolas dry of however much they can before disposing of him.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: In a meta sense it initially seemed that Stella might have a good cause to be angry with Stolas given he did cheat on her and endanger their marriage even if she was handling it in an extremely poor way. While the screaming matches and breaking things weren't good many viewers had some initial empathy for her situation. Future episodes revealed that Stella has been abusive sadistic monster from day one constantly demeaning Stolas at every opportunity. As it turns out her anger isn't so much that Stolas cheated as that he found a way to be happy despite her abuse and the ramifications for her personal life after he humiliated her by declaring they were divorcing in front of her friends. Additionally if he divorces her, dies, or the fact he's cheating with someone of a lower social class becomes common knowledge Stella will end up with nothing. Financially speaking Stolas won't willingly give her a thing while Octavia is Stolas heir if he happens to die so Stella won't inherit a damn thing and her reputation will suffer for her husband preferring to fuck an Imp over her.
  • Brainless Beauty: As her brother notes, she's lucky that she's beautiful because she isn't very smart. Andrealphus has to point out that if she murders Stolas now, all of his possessions will go to Octavia, and that she should hold off on killing her husband until after she's arranged to inherit all that was his.
  • Brains and Brawn: As of "Western Energy", she's the aggressive, ditzy Brawn to Andrealphus' pragmatic, cunning Brains.
  • Brits Love Tea: She's an Evil Brit and Rich Bitch who is shown having tea on at least two occasions. In the pilot, Blitzo crashes one of her garden parties where she and other high society demon ladies were having tea and cake. Stolas's Instagram also shows him attending one of her high society tea parties, and being bored silly by it.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: She goes on an expletive-riddled tirade against her husband when she discovers his infidelities.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Her hiring of Striker to kill Stolas winds up being this. As Andrealphus points out, Stolas already has an heir in Octavia, so in the event of his death, all of his possessions and wealth will pass onto her, leaving Stella with nothing to gain beyond seeing her hated husband dead. She finds this acceptable, so Andrealphus has to work to convince her into calling Striker off and waiting for a more opportune time to deal with him.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Averted. "The Circus" implies she's been belittling and emotionally abusing Stolas their entire marriage, and her first response to him snapping and demanding a divorce is to try to backhand him. None of it is played comedically, and it's a genuinely uncomfortable scene in a show otherwise drowning in Black Comedy. The only thing played slightly straight about this trope is how Stella gets away with publicly humiliating Stolas in front of her friends, but even that speaks more about the apathy denizens of hell and other royalty are to abuse in general than any double standard.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: In "The Circus", she mocks Stolas' lovemaking ability to her friends, claiming that he barely does anything. It never occurs to her that this is less about Stolas' skill in bed, and more about him not finding her attractive in the least.
  • Early Personality Signs: "The Circus" shows that Stella was nasty even as a child. In a photo of her that Stolas' father shows to him, she's strangling a dog with another one crying in the lower-right corner.
  • Enfant Terrible: In a childhood photo during the flashback in “The Circus”, she is portrayed violently strangling a dog. This is enough to make Little Stolas cry when he learns he'll be arranged to marry her.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Possibly, and very downplayed, if at all. As detailed in the tropes above and below, she is undeniably a horrible, neglectful mother who is dismissive of her daughter. Yet despite that, there are few hints that she might at care about Octavia somewhat, though likely not much. There is a picture of her and Stolas with a younger Octavia where Stella seems to be genuinely smiling at the theme park. Besides that, when talking with her brother about how Stolas' legions would be inherited by his heir if killed, Stella doesn't suggest or even seem to consider having her daughter killed as well. Additionally, when getting a divorce, instead of just shoving custody of Octavia solely on Stolas, Stella seemed to care enough to bother getting a joint shared custody arrangement with Stolas so that her daughter would live at her house part of the time. Although it is still possible that Stella had other reasons for doing so.
    • Possibly played straighter with her brother. Their relationship is hardly perfect, he insults her when Stella acts stupid and there is even an incest subtext between them, yet overall they seem get along alright with one another and appear to have each other's interests in mind. She interacts with him in a much more friendly capacity than just about any other member of her family seen thus far.
  • Evil Brit: She's a powerful denizen of Hell with a British accent that's only been portrayed in harsh light.
  • Evil Is Petty: She admits in "The Circus" that the only reason she stays with Stolas is to torment him and make sure he remembers what he did.
  • Fantastic Racism: She's absolutely furious when she discovers that Stolas has not only been cheating on her, but doing so with an imp, whom she considers to be inferior beings. Stella goes as far as to sarcastically suggest or accuse him of doing the same with their imp servant. As a whole, her anger towards her husband's infidelity seems to stem as much from class discrimination and her concerns over the family's reputation as him being unfaithful.
  • Feathered Fiend: Like her brother, she's a peafowl demon.
  • For the Evulz: Why does she continue to belittle and abuse Stolas, even when she takes Octavia to her house on weekends? She likes tormenting him.
  • Girlish Pigtails: A photo of her in "The Circus" shows her wearing them as a little girl.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She's strongly implied to have this. Octavia implies her parents have been fighting for ages despite Stella's recent discovery of Stolas' affair with Blitzo, and "The Harvest Moon Festival" implies that she goes into screaming fits so often that her husband and daughter have learned to tune her out, since she loudly orders her husband's death on the phone right in front of them, but they barely notice. And in "The Circus", her reaction to Stolas proclaiming he has had enough of her abuse and wants a divorce is to attempt to strike him. A childhood photo of her also depicts her attacking her own two pet dogs in a fit of violent rage and strangling one of them.
  • Hate Sink: Stella was written with characteristics that would make the audience want to see her fail. Such traits include having a view of imps as little more than sapient livestock, being an inattentive and barely caring mother to Octavia, and her responses to Stolas acting out of line are to verbally and physically abuse him, something he never fights back against due to being a Peahenpecked Husband. Even as the story starts deconstructing Stolas' Sympathetic Adulterer status and forces him to understand that he's hurting the people he cares about, Stella doesn't gain any explicit redeemable qualities, and is painted in an unsympathetic light whenever she's on-screen. And in case you were wondering that maybe Stella and Stolas did love each other at first, a young Stolas bursting into tears upon being shown a picture of her strangling a dog and learning that he's being forced to marry her is all the proof you need to know she was a bad egg right from the start.
  • Hidden Buxom: An official pinup of her in lingerie promoted on Valentine's Day shows she has quite the large bust underneath that dress of hers.
  • Hypocrite:
    • She's upset because Stolas cheating on her is a source of embarrassment for her and the family, but she has absolutely no problems openly and loudly insulting Stolas in public, even with Stolas standing not twenty feet away.
    • She's also an absolute classist and racist, viewing imps as the lowest of the low, yet she has no qualms hiring Striker, who happens to be an imp himself and refers to him as "darling".
  • It Amused Me: Ultimately the reason why she's still living with Stolas; she enjoys watching him squirm and reminding him of what he did.
  • It's All About Me: Stella's reactions towards the affair reek of this. She's shown to be furious with her husband's affair in part due to the "embarrassment" of him sleeping with an imp with how that will make the family, her included, seen in the rest of demon society. Finally, “The Harvest Moon Festival” shows that she's so furious with his affair that she puts a hit on him despite knowing how close he is with her daughter and not caring how this would affect Octavia. "The Circus" firmly establishes that she never loved, or even liked Stolas. Their marriage was arranged, and she cares more about how Stolas' cheating affects her image than about the cheating itself.
  • Jerkass: Stella is classist, racist towards Imps, and is incredibly temperamental. Even the one point she has is negated by her racism towards Blitzo and paying Striker to kill him. And it's revealed in "The Circus" that she constantly belittled and insulted Stolas even before he had the affair.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After years of getting away with humiliating Stolas in front of others, she gets a Taste Of Her Own Medicine after Stolas publicly cheats on her.
Blitzo: (after falling onto the table of Stella's tea party) Sorry, I fucked your husband.
Stella: What the FUCK was that, Stolas?!
Stolas: That was the sound of a FUCKING DIVORCE! (laughs maniacally and tears up the "Still Not Divorced!" banner so that it says "Divorced!")
  • Kick the Dog: In "The Circus", she openly talks trash about Stolas to her friends... while Stolas is just a few feet away. She even looks directly at him while calling him a "loser".
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: A bit downplayed, but her furious rant at Stolas, with much throwing of plants and servants, is all done in an elegant white dress.
  • Lack of Empathy: While her exact level of affection for her daughter is ambiguous, she has shown herself to be at best oblivious, at worst uncaring about how her dysfunctional relationship with Stolas is making her daughter miserable, unlike Stolas who feels increasing regret over what his fling is causing. At the very least she seems to not care how ordering a hit on her husband right in front of their daughter might affect the girl.
  • Light Is Not Good: Has white/pale coloring and attire, but has been portrayed to be neglectful to Octavia and violent when angry. Couple that with the fact that she's a member of demonic royalty, and even attempted homicide by ordering a hit on her own husband over his affair with Blitzo.
  • Marriage of Convenience: Implied, based off of Stolas' disinterest in her. He starts to tell Octavia that he hasn't been happy and that they weren't in love. In fact, during one of their fights, Stella's anger doesn't seem to be because Stolas was cheating on her so much as it was with an imp, and that they did it in Stolas and Stella's own bed. When Stolas tries explaining that it was unexpected and that he didn't have time to go to a motel, she understandably expresses further anger, but the betrayal is once again more about social standing than any personal hurt feelings. She ends the argument calling him an embarrassment. "The Circus", reveals that they were arranged to marry as children in order to produce a precautionary heir to the Goetia, and that while Stolas at least tried to make it work Stella takes great delight in making him miserable.
  • Moral Myopia: Stella spends their entire marriage bullying and publicly humiliating Stolas while he sits there and takes it for their daughter's sake. When he stops taking it, she hires a hitman to assassinate him and reacts to his demand for a divorce with total outrage.
  • No Indoor Voice: Combined with Evil Is Hammy; though her Establishing Character Moment shows her in the middle of a furious rant where screaming is the norm, her voice has the same volume level and guttural screech even when she's passively sniping at Stolas or chatting with her friends.
  • Not Helping Your Case: In Western Energy, Andrealphus complains that Stella's openly hostile attitude towards Stolas are making it "harder to bullshit" Stolas into giving Stella more concessions in the divorce proceedings.
  • Parental Neglect: Initially seemed to be the case, as most of her interactions with Stolas and Octavia have her barely acknowledge her daughter's presence, most notably ordering a hit on Stolas while the Daddy's Girl Octavia is right in front of her, (albeit wearing music-blaring headphones). Her dismissively referring to Octavia as simply "an egg" in "The Circus" also suggests that she doesn't even bother to use her daughter's own name.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • In "The Circus" she actually told Stolas that he doesn’t have to come to the Not Divorce Party.
    • In "Loo Loo Land", a photo shows her with her husband and daughter at said theme park when Octavia was little, in which Stella is giving her husband a genuine smile.
    • In "Western Energy" she didn't seem to care that Stolas' death would mean Octavia, and not her, would receive all of his power and wealth, even when Andrealphus had to explain to her why it was a bad thing she didn't think it was as important as killing Stolas. The thought of just killing Via never seemed to be an option for her either, so while neglectful, she isn't abusive, at least on purpose.
      • From the same episode, she actually offers to pay Striker double to keep Stolas alive for the time being when she just as easily could have fired him without pay, as his services were no longer required. Given her Fantastic Racism towards imps, the fact that she's willing to reimburse him at all is notable.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: Stella shows a high level of immaturity and psychopathy as she constantly acts like a spoiled diva and constantly throws childish temper tantrums over her husband’s affair with Blitzo. Her psychopathy is proven when she decides to hire a hit man to have Stolas murdered. When Andrealphus explains to her why killing Stolas before the divorce is final is a bad thing she pouts like a child.
  • Proud Peacock: She is a peahen demon, and very vain and arrogant.
  • Revenge Before Reason: "Western Energy" reveals that she'd rather gain the short term gratification of killing Stolas for cheating on her, instead of gaining ownership of his possessions, status, duties, and wealth.
  • Rich Bitch: She's a wealthy, powerful citizen of Hell, and she's not exactly a peach to deal with. The main source of her fury when she discovers her husband's affair isn't so much about the act of cheating itself and more about how he slept with someone of lower status. At one of her parties she can be overheard mocking the concept of poverty.
  • Royal Brat: Stella is part of the royal Goetia family and has shown herself to be extremely spoiled. When Andrealphus advices her to hold off on having Stolas killed, because it would only cause problems, she begins to pout in a child-like manner and complains that she wants him dead now.
  • Sadist: Before the affair, she makes sure Stolas is within earshot whenever she tells her social-circle about his inadequacies (real or imagined). She also admits to Stolas that the only reason why she hangs around in his mansion during their separation is because of the obscene pleasure she gets seeing him at his lowest.
Stella: I like tormenting you. I want to keep reminding you of what you did.
  • Skewed Priorities: She's angry that Stolas is cheating on her, but she's even more angry that Stolas is cheating on her with an imp. Stella sees imps as lower-class citizens, and her status as a member of the upper crust is what she primarily cares about. Also, infidelity or otherwise, she leaves the raising of their daughter Octavia solely on the shoulders of Stolas, not caring about Octavia's well-being or mental health. Instead, Stella favors advancing her own reputation.
  • Socialite: Cultured, wealthy, Pimped-Out Dress, and very status-conscious. In the pilot, she learns of her husband's affair when the imp he slept with literally crashes her garden party. Stolas's Instagram also includes an instance of him attending one of her high society tea parties, and being bored silly. However, she provides a dark take on the trope as her obsession with status is a huge part of her fury at her husband's affair, and is implied to be why she's not close to her daughter Octavia.
  • Spoiled Brat: Strongly implied due to her behavior, selfishness, and rich upbringing. Stella has shown herself to be a snob due to constantly throwing parties and she seems to have been spoiled since childhood as she is seen in a picture strangling a dog.
  • Stupid Evil: In "Western Energy" she cannot understand that murdering Stolas before their divorce proceedings are finalized means that she gains nothing, since Octavia stands to inherit it all. In her brother Andrealphus' words in response to her ignorance, "You're SO lucky you're attractive".
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: She gets to know what it's like to be on the receiving end of public humiliation when Stolas publicly cheats on her with Blitzo.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part:
    • Wants to pull this on Stolas for cheating on her, hiring Striker to kill Stolas at the Harvest Moon Festival. His life is only spared because I.M.P got to Striker before he could pull it off.
    • She later tries to pull the same trick again in revenge for Stolas initiating a divorce produce against her, this time by telling Striker to also make sure that Stolas suffers first. This time, Andrealphus manages talk her down from the plan, pointing out that she has nothing to gain and everything to lose by bumping off Stolas before the divorce is finalized (noting that having him killed will be fair game afterwards), leading her to reluctantly call off the hit.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: The glimpse we get of Stella as a child in "The Circus" is a photo of her torturing a dog.
  • Ungrateful Bitch: It's revealed in "The Circus" that Stolas tried to give his family a comfortable and happy life, and Stella only repaid him with cruelty and abuse.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: She has long, feathery ones that appear to be enhanced with mascara.
  • Villainous Friendship: Implied, at the party in "The Circus" Stella is quite chatty with two other goetia (also seen in the pilot), openly mocking Stolas in front of them (and him), much to their entertainment, and she proceeds to have tea with them the following morning, further showing their closeness.
  • Woman Scorned: She is shown to be extremely violent and loud when discovering that Stolas has been cheating on her with an Imp of all things. So bad, in fact, that she was willing to put out a hit on him.

"NO, YOU STUPID COW! YOU'D GET NOTHING! Ugh, you're so lucky you're attractive."
Voiced by: Jason Lashea

Stolas' snobby brother-in-law and brother to Stella.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: It's faint, but at the start of "Seeing Stars", he can be heard cackling after Stolas calls Stella a "B-I-T-C-H".
  • Affably Evil: While undoubtedly on his sister's side during the divorce proceedings, he at least tries to be civil toward Stolas (if only to negotiate a better settlement).
  • Animal Motifs: He is heavily associated with peafowl, though his appearance is inspired by the bright-colored male peacock to contrast Stella, who takes after the more drab-colored female peahen. Peacocks are symbols of power, divinity, and royalty, which fits Andrealphus' status as a Goetia demon. Peacocks are also associated with the sin of Pride — while snobby attitudes come with the territory, Andrealphus is colder and more condescending in his snobbery whereas his sister is more outspoken and hateful of those she considers beneath her.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Twofold. Like Stella, his appearance is inspired by peafowl, except he takes after the bright-colored male peacock whereas his sister takes after the more drab-colored female peahen. His primary colors are also white and light blue, both of them associated with snow and ice, which is fitting as he is featured with ice motifs.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: He forms one with Stella in "Western Energy", collaborating to tilt the divorce proceedings in his sister's favor. Compared to the ill-tempered Stella, Andrealphus is more pragmatic and willing to play the long game before killing Stolas, subtly making him the dominant villain of the pair.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Downplayed. As Stella's brother, Andrealphus certainly won't take kindly to Stolas sullying his sister's honor with his infidelity and especially the divorce. Stella's comments about him imply that part of the reason why Stolas didn't leave her earlier is because of the massive repercussions of incurring her brother's wrath. However, his official debut in "Western Energy" shows that while he is completely in support of Stolas losing more in his divorce with Stella, him being more pragmatic than his sister means that he won't immediately indulge her desire to see Stolas suffer.
  • Brains and Brawn: As of "Western Energy", he's the pragmatic, cunning Brains to Stella's aggressive, ditzy Brawn.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: Downplayed in "Western Energy", but the terms of endearment he uses for his sister, Stella, call attention to her beauty and he is handsy with her to an uncomfortable (for the viewer at least, it is unclear what Stella thinks, as she was very focused on Striker and Stolas.) degree.
  • Cool House: In the very literal sense. He lives in a very fancy mansion made entirely of ice and snow, decorated with sharp stalagmites and elaborate ice structures that resemble peacock feathers. It's also located in a perpetually snowy realm surrounded by more icy stalagmites. This speaks of not only his status, but also his magical and political power as a Goetia royal.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: He is the 65th demon in the Ars Goetia, and is a marquis of Hell.
  • The Dreaded: Implied by Stella using his name to try and put Stolas on the backfoot during their argument at the end of "The Circus". It doesn't work.
  • Establishing Character Moment: His debut appearance in "Western Energy" features him in a high-end restaurant named "Richest Cup", trying to serve as mediator for both Stella and Stolas over the topic of their divorce, while chastising both of them when they devolve into childish arguing. This pegs him as both a member of Goetia royalty like his sister as well as the classier, more mature sibling of the two. His private conversation with Stella later on also shows his Pragmatic Villainy — while he does want to help Stella in screwing Stolas over, he points out the flaws in hiring an assassin after Stolas and advises her to wait until a better opportunity comes so they can "reap the rewards", instead of impulsively seeking revenge over a personal slight and being left with nothing afterward.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He speaks with a suave and sensually deep voice that sounds comforting, but he is a demon of Goetia royalty who also seeks Stolas' downfall, even if he is more pragmatic about it than the ill-tempered and spiteful Stella.
  • Evil Uncle: Implied to be an inverted case from his referring to Octavia as "Via".
  • Feathered Fiend: He's a demonic peacock.
  • Foil: To Stolas. Andrealphus has a strong ice motif and is shown to be An Ice Person, whereas Stolas is a Caring Gardener with an affinity for plants. Whereas Andrealphus is a classy, composed, yet condescending demon royal who fits the ideal standard of what Goetia should be, Stolas is rather Endearingly Dorky who acts out of place among his peers despite his status and station as a Prince. They're also closely connected to Stella, but Andrealphus is an affectionate brother (perhaps too affectionate) and is her ally despite being the more pragmatic of the two, while Stolas is Stella's soon-to-be ex-husband who was stuck in an abusive Arranged Marriage with her and hates her to the point of cheating on her with Blitzo.
  • Fur and Loathing: He wears a furry, ice-blue mantle or vest, and he is Stolas' brother-in-law who actively works with Stella in screwing him over.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Downplayed. Even before Andrealphus had appeared, Stella's comments would imply that his power and position are a part of the reason Stolas didn't divorce Stella earlier, and with the divorce going through, Stolas will have to deal with Andrealphus' ire.
  • An Ice Person: He creates two ice cubes with magic to cool his drink.
  • Incest Subtext: Hints of it pop up during Andrealphus' interactions with Stella, such as calling her a "sexy vixen", is openly flirtatious with her (especially when they're alone), and frequently touches her in a sensual manner. The fact that Stella doesn't really try to resist implies that this affection may be mutual.
    • On the other hand, Stella doesn't necessarily smile or respond in kind; this could just as easily imply that she's subtly uncomfortable with her brother's affections but lacks the same kind of authority and power as him and has to put up with it.
      • However she was preocupied, so the viewer has no idea what she thinks.
    • His statement that Stella is "so lucky" she is attractive also smacks of more than a little contempt for her intelligence.
  • Irony: In the Ars Goetia, Andrealphus is a marquis and thus ranks lower than Stolas, who is a Great Prince of Hell. Here, he is implied to be an important figure with a powerful reputation who could ruin even fellow Goetia demons like Stolas if sufficiently enraged; according to Stella, he's the reason why Stolas hadn't decided to divorce her earlier.
  • Narcissist: First we hear of him, Stolas bitingly calls him "arrogant." Appropriate for a Proud Peacock demon.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: If Stella's attempted threat to Stolas in "The Circus" is any indication, Andrealphus has enough power and influence to be a serious threat to Stolas if he decides to go through with a divorce. Stolas' reaction to said threat also implies that this isn't the first time Andrealphus has tried to meddle with their personal affairs.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: He rightly points out to Stella that having Stolas killed during their divorce proceedings would only result in all of his duties, wealth, and titles going to Octavia (who has been shown to vastly prefer Stolas to Stella) instead. As such, Andrealphus suggests that they wait until the divorce is complete before going after Stolas again. This is in line with the Ars Goetia, where Andrealphus is characterized as a cunning, duplicitous marquis of Hell with the ability to switch between a man and a peacock-like demon.
  • Proud Peacock: He's a vain peacock demon and, if Stella's comments are to go by, likely as cruel as his sister.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Stella's red, fittingly enough. He's flamboyant and snobbish, but has his head on straighter than his sister and has to spell out that her plan to kill Stolas during the divorce proceedings won't net her anything because Octavia will receive the inheritance instead, and suggests biding their time until they can reap the rewards. For bonus points, he is heavily associated with azure whereas Stella is associated with pink to show the contrast in personalities.
  • Shown Their Work: Again, as tends to be the case in Helluva Boss, the demons' characterizations are well thought-out: Andrealphus' domains in the Ars Goetia includes stuff like "Geometry and Measurements", "Subtle Debating" and "Astronomy". Not only does this shine through in his role as the mediator between Stolas and Stella during their divorce negotiations, it also provides personal reasons for why he'd be so insistent on taking as much as possible of Stolas' wealth before offing him: Gaining greater influence over the astronomy domain. Also, though Andrealphus is only a marquis, while Stolas is a prince, the former is good for 30 legions of hell, while the latter only boasts 26 legions, emphasizing that title isn't everything and some lesser demon lords have more power and influence than greater ones.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He's the "Yin" to his sister Stella's "Yang". Andrealphus is a suave, classy, and composed Goetia demon who is the brains of the two, as he recognizes that Stella's plan to have Stolas killed was poorly thought-out and persuades her to wait for a better opportunity instead. By contrast, Stella is a spoiled, abusive bad-tempered socialite whose grudge (and abusive treatment) towards Stolas is fueled by him having an affair with the show's equivalent of a peasant. Unlike her brother, she is so shortsighted that she sends an assassin after Stolas for his infidelity, not bothering to think about how it might affect her or her daughter. This is further emphasized by their color associations, with Andrealphus being associated with azure while Stella is associated with reds and pinks.
  • Tea Is Classy: His appearances in "Western Energy" feature him having tea — first at a restaurant named "Richest Cup" while meeting with Stella and Stolas, then at his own personal palace where he magically conjures ice cubes to cool his drink. They characterize him as a Goetia royal who is suave and classy, albeit more pragmatic compared to others of his kind, especially his spoiled, ill-tempered sister Stella.

    Paimon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paimon_render.png
"Don't bow to that one! He bows to us, idiot."
Voiced by: Jonathan Freeman

Stolas's distant father.

  • Abusive Parents: In the first five minutes of "The Circus", he has to be told which son Stolas is, bluntly tells him he's in an Arranged Marriage, swears at him when he cries, takes Stolas to the circus because he doesn't want to deal with his crying (and isn't even physically there), and buys Blitzo to be a friend for the aforementioned unwillingness to be a good father. He also Dope Slaps Stolas for bowing to Blitzo and calls him an idiot because imps are supposed to bow to them, and then says "I'm so good at daddying."
  • Actor Allusion: Paimon's color scheme and overall appearance makes him look like Jonathan Freeman's much older role as Jafar in Disney's Aladdin. Additionally, the imp servant who's simply credited as Mister Butler and seen throughout "The Circus" by Paimon's side is voiced by Don Darryl Rivera who originated the role of Iago Disney's Aladdin on Broadway.
  • Animalistic Abomination: His owl-like appearance seems to be more like his regularly held appearance considering that he is introduced as a shaped mass of shadows that shifts through different demonic visages before settling with his avian form.
  • Buffy Speak: Right after snapping at Stolas for bowing down to an imp, he congratulates himself on being so good at "daddying".
  • Bumbling Dad: Even when he's not being abusive or neglectful, Paimon isn't exactly a competent parent; he can hardly remember the names of his own children, but he can't even be bothered to be physically present when taking Stolas to the carnie.
  • Casting a Shadow: While we don't see him manipulate shadows that much, we do first see him as a black mass of shadows with multiple eyes before shifting into his owl form.
  • Comically Small Bribe: Zig-zagged, Paimon asks Cash Buckzo how much it would cost to "buy" Blitzo as Stolas' playmate for a day, basically saying Cash just needs to name a prize. Buckzo is willing to go extremely low, only asking "how much ya got in your pocket?" (directed at the butler, since Paimon isn't physically present), which amounts to a crumpled five dollar bill and a slim-fit condom, which Cash accepts. Though it's revealed afterwards that Cash only accepted it just so Blitzo can steal as much as possible from the Goetia during his playdate.
  • Darwinist Desire: The reason why he set up the marriage between Stolas and Stella, as he believed that the two of them could sire an heir to continue the Goetia legacy.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: He's a high-ranking demon king in the Ars Goetia and 9th demon overall. How this translates in the show is unknown, but he ranks high nonetheless.
  • Disneyland Dad: When Stolas becomes upset by his arranged marriage, Paimon remedies this by taking him to the circus and buying one of the performers to be his friend. Unlike Stolas, who did the same thing with Octavia out of concern for her, Paimon only does this because he doesn't want to go to the effort of actually comforting him. Plus Stolas was physically present with Octavia and trying to have fun alongside her, whereas Paimon sent Mister Butler to accompany Stolas with a Magic Mirror while Paimon stayed at home.
  • The Ditz: Unlike other antagonists, Paimon doesn’t seem to be truly evil so much as absentminded, lazy, and blissfully unaware of his own incompetence.
  • Doesn't Know Their Own Child: He has so many children that he needs to be reminded which one of them Stolas is.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter: We first see him as a mass of shadows before he shifts into his owl form.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Implied. When he offers Cash Buckzo the Comically Small Bribe to purchase Blitzo to be Stolas' friend/playmate for the day, he's seen raising his brows and widening his eyes slightly when the ringleader imp dismissively accepts it, like even he is shocked at how little this man is willing to sell his own son for, without the slightest bit of hesitation or haggling. Downplayed in that he quickly brushes it off afterwards, however.
  • Explosive Breeder: Implied, at least. When he tries to remember Stolas name, he laments that he can't due to having so many other children.
  • Flashy Teleportation: Paimon can do this for demons in his service remotely, like the butler he sent with Stolas to the circus. He simply claps his hands and his servant is streamed upwards into the sky with a boom. This ability has the potential to be weaponized heavily, as the ability covers a large area and leaves surroundings burns and charred, as seen when Paimon, likely obliviously, disintegrated half of the large tent the butler was in.
  • Forgetful Jones: If Stolas is any indication, he has a tendency to forget the names of his own children. Although it seems less that he's got too many to keep track of and more that he just doesn't care enough to remember without help.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: When he meets Stolas, he shapeshifts into several creatures, before settling on an Owl that looks like Stolas. It's implied his other kids do not look like owls.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Due to his vast power and influence, he’s the one responsible for arranging the marriage between Stolas and Stella, thus setting the events of the series into motion.
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance: Judging by his "I'm so good at daddying" comment, Paimon genuinely believes that he's a good father to Stolas and is completely unaware of how he's hurting his son.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: His dope-slapping Stolas for bowing to Blitzo was harsh and motivated by elitism, but previous and future episodes show that the Goetias are not popular with Hell's denizens and only maintain their rule through shows of strength. A Royal showing deference to an Imp—the lowest being on Hell's social ladder—could have been interpreted as a sign of weakness and led to serious consequences. And, indeed, once Stolas's affair with Blitzo becomes public knowledge, it becomes a massive scandal.
  • Karma Houdini: He's the one who set up an arranged marriage between Stolas and Stella, and he never received punishment nor retribution for it.
  • Lack of Empathy: When seeing a picture of his future bride makes Stolas cry, Paimon decides to take him to the circus to cheer him up - not because he actually cares about his son's feelings, but because he detests the sound of him crying.
  • Laughably Evil: Paimon is undeniably a horrible parent, but he ends up being hilarious because of his stunning incompetence as a parent and general disconnect from normal reality.
  • Lazy Bum: He's really disinterested in actually being a father to his son. Tellingly, while he sends Stolas to the carnie to cheer him up, Paimon himself doesn't bother to go in person. Instead, he just has his Imp butler use a Magic Mirror like a video call.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: He's not a good parent by any means, but his parental failings are due to staggering incompetence and laziness rather than malice. He also favors using the carrot to get his son's obedience, such as taking Stolas to the circus and buying him a playmate (and one whom he knew his son would like, at that), which puts Paimon on a much higher pedestal than the thuggish Buckzo and the downright filicidal Crimson.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Like Stolas, Paimon finds carnies entertaining and uses them to try and bond with their kids (whether the kids want it or not).
    • Another thing Paimon shares with Stolas, is that he’ll puff out his cheeks with a little smile whilst clapping his hands excitedly when he’s amused.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Like his son, he takes his child to the circus when they are upset. Unlike Stolas, it was born out of Paimon being too lazy to actually be a parent, rather than a misguided effort to connect with his child.
  • Magic Mirror: When not wanting to directly mingle with the poor or handle his own son, Paimon uses a magic mirror that's held by other people such as Mister Butler or Stolas as depicted in one picture to deal with matters without being physically there.
  • Moral Myopia: He's convinced he's a good parent, despite his total lack of care and consideration toward at least one of his children.
  • Mystical High Collar: Paimon has a very high collar and judging from his entrance, he's clearly capable of magic to a great extent.
  • Mythology Gag: While his appearance (the one we see him in) doesn't resemble his description in the Ars Goetia, the camel he was said to ride is referenced in his insignia.
  • Obliviously Evil: Paimon doesn't think anything is wrong with his parenting, when there clearly is.
  • Ominous Owl: He's an owl demon like his son. However, he's far more ominous than Stolas.
  • Our Hydras Are Different: His original shadow form looks like a hydra, with several reptilian heads.
  • Parental Neglect: He apparently has so many children that he can barely recognize them, and only puts a minimal amount of effort to please Stolas on his birthday.
  • Sadly Mythcharacterized: Paimon in the Ars Goetia looked like a man, not an owl. While arguably the most iconic image of Paimon does depict him having bird talons for feet, they're somewhat easy to miss as they're not the most prominent feature of his and they're not owl talons meaning it still counts as a species change either way. Although this may be subverted as he refers to Stolas as "the owl boy", possibly indicating that his owl form is just the shape he uses to interact with his son and not his default appearance.
  • Shapeshifter Default Form: It's not made clear whether the mass of shadows we first see him as or the owl-like demon form he eventually settles in is this, but it does confirm that he can take a multitude of forms, but mostly sticks to the latter through the entire episode due to being with Stolas.
  • Shapeshifting: His introduction consists of him rapidly shifting between a diverse array of shadowy demonic forms before settling on the owl demon.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He only appears in flashbacks in his debut episode, but he's the one who set up the arranged marriage between Stella and his son, meaning almost all of Stolas and Stella's marital problems can be traced back to him.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We don't know what has become of him in the present day, as he only appears in flashbacks and in a picture of an adult Stolas holding the magic mirror Paimon uses.
