Redeeming Six/Council of Redemption

    open/close all folders

    General
  • Angelic Transformation: All members of the Redeeming Six became Angels after dying, though in the case of Moon Ray/Tunglið, Fret Pick/Dauðadómur, and Whipper Snare/Sekt, they became Angels of Death.
  • Animalistic Abomination: All members of the Redeeming Six are presently eldritch Alicorns, with Moon Ray/Tunglið being the first through re-Ascending while the rest did so by Ascending to godhood using Moon Ray/Tunglið's divine "Spark". While Sunny Field/Sól's case was completely accidental (something that tore up Moon Ray/Tunglið quite a bit), the rest did so willingly in part because they didn't want the Vaughoof brothers to be alone as the only eldritch deities in their group.
  • Back from the Dead: Save for Fret Pick/Dauðadómur and Whipper Snare/Sekt, who became Death gods, all of the Redeeming Six would eventually come back from the dead by Ascending to godhood as non-Death deities. Moon Ray/Tunglið's case, however, is zigzagged as while he returned to life by re-Ascending, he constantly cycles through three forms pertaining to Death, Life, and Reincarnation. One of said forms is a Death god.
  • Badass Crew: Much like the Mane Six, the Redeeming Six are a group of Ponies who accomplished many great things even before Ascending to godhood.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: All members are benevolent in their own ways, and genuinely want to redeem sinners and help others grow as people, whether through overcoming trauma or working with their worst flaws. They're also incredibly powerful beings who are experienced in kicking flank. It's especially pronounced with Moon Ray/Tunglið, who became a "Preeminent"-level god following his re-Ascension and thus is the oldest (physically; chronologically he's quite young by divine standards) and the strongest of the group.
  • Big Good: After Moon Ray is crowned as King Tunglið Hreinsar Innlausn-Heimdrasil by the Grand Primevals, the Redeeming Six become this for all of the Ten Realms. Presiding over the tenth realm of Innlausn, which formerly belonged to the Shadowed Ones, the Redeeming Six serve as a benevolent faction that focuses on breaking toxic cycles and providing aid to all those who need it. But they're also politically neutral, with Innlausn being a sanctuary Truce Zone where even evil individuals and groups are welcomed as long as they follow the rules. This is in stark contrast to the Shadowed Ones, who perpetuated a self-destructive cycle from behind the scenes over millions of years for both sustenance and amusement, and treated all inhabitants of the (former) Nine Realms as their playthings.
  • Celebrity Power: All members of the Redeeming Six are based on Stevie Ray Vaughan and his inner social circle, consisting of his wifenote , his older brother, and his bandmates in Double Trouble. Unlike their real-life inspirations, however, they would all first start out as Angels (or Angels of Death) before Ascending to godhood. Presently, all of them are eldritch deities thanks to Moon Ray/Tunglið re-Ascending as one and then later Ascending themselves using Moon Ray/Tunglið's eldritch "Spark".
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: Out of the group, only four were Archangels; Sunny Field/Sól was the oldest Archangel in the group due to being Moon Ray/Tunglið's first Angel. The two exceptions were Moon Ray/Tunglið and Velvet Heart/Ástin, who were both ordinary Angels (Angel of Death in the former case) by the time they Ascended.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: All of them got involved in the Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll lifestyle at some point in their mortal youth, and each have varying degrees of psychological baggage of their own. That being said, they are genuinely heroic and well-meaning, and all of their character arcs revolve around overcoming said baggage (and their flaws) in order to grow as Ponies.
  • Cool Uncle: And Aunt; all members of the Redeeming Six have more or less adopted Princess Lampyridae/Firewing (now Princess Clementia Iustitia) as their collective niece shortly after her birth, with Dragon Lord Ember and King/Arch-Prince Thorax's permission/approval. When Clementia was younger, they would play with her and look after her, and when she grew increasingly bitter and racist due to witnessing and experiencing Half-Breed Discrimination for herself, the Redeeming Six would take her to see those who overcame their own bigotry, such as those Changelings and Dragons who abandoned their racial feud altogether. This went a long way in shaping what Clementia would become as she grew older.
  • Deity of Human Origin: All of them started out as mortal Earth Ponies who became Angels (or Angels of Death) and Ascending to godhood after dying, with their divine portfolios reflecting their natures and/or epiphanies. Moon Ray/Tunglið is the only one to have re-Ascended, and helped the others Ascend sometime after. This also applies to the Redeeming Six's honorary member, Tranquil Dream, though in his case he Ascended by repeating Dr. Endless Dreams' famous feat — overpowering and assimilating an Abyssal One by sheer force of will.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: All of them are presently eldritch deities, with Moon Ray/Tunglið being the "oldest" of them physically as he is a "Preeminent"-ranked god. However, they're all benevolent individuals who seek to help spread forgiveness and redemption across the world.
  • Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: Played with. Moon Ray, Sunny Field, and Fret Pick were Happily Married long before their Eldritch Transformation happened, and their relationships never really changed much after the fact. In Moon Ray's case, both he and his wife Velvet Heart became eldritch deities well into the Fourth Age, but they still remain devoted to each other.
  • Elemental Powers: All of the Redeeming Six have elemental powers of some kind — Moon Ray's is is water, Sunny Field's is fire, Velvet Heart's is wind, Key Tap's is earth, Whipper Snare is light, and Fret Pick's is darkness. Tranquil Dream, an honorary member of the Redeeming Six, represents mind.
  • God Is Flawed: All of them are presently eldritch Alicorns, but they're also flawed in their own ways. Much of their character arcs involves acknowledging and overcoming their flaws (or at least controlling them better) so they can become better people.
  • God Is Good: Despite their flaws, all of them desire to help people break free of addiction and redeem sinners so they could become better. They also acknowledge their own flaws and work hard to overcome them themselves.
  • Good Counterpart: To the Shadowed Ones. The Redeeming Six are flawed yet good people who seek to break cycles and help people grow meaningfully because they all know what it's like to be stuck in a toxic cycle themselves, while the Shadowed Ones are cruel, sadistic, and evil primordial deities who perpetuate destructive cycles to both sustain and amuse themselves with the suffering of others. The Redeeming Six acknowledges their own flaws and continuously work to control them no matter how hard or painful it is, allowing all of them to become stronger and wiser, while the Shadowed Ones, while very powerful and ancient, grew quite complacent after spending millions of years manipulating a cycle that provided easy victories for them, causing their downfall. And while the Redeeming Six embody concepts relating to all aspects of positive, healthy cycles, such as death, growth, life, redemption, etc., the Shadowed Ones embody concepts that mostly relate to doom, death, and destruction. The contrast is further emphasized when the Redeeming Six settle into the Shadowed Ones' tenth realm many years after "Final Ragnarok" and become its primary pantheon, effectively replacing the Shadowed Ones in both memory and presence.
  • Happily Married: Of the group, only three of them are married (Moon Ray and Velvet Heart, Sunny Field and Constance, and Fret Pick with Kumi). All of the aforementioned people are very happy with their partners, though they're portrayed realistically as each of them were noted to have gone through rough patches at times.
  • Immortality Begins at Twenty: Subverted. All of them are presently eldritch Alicorn deities, but thanks to unique circumstances, they were all subjected to Rapid Aging that not only made them physically much older than their chronological ages, but also magically stronger by divine standards. In Moon Ray/Tunglið's case, his growth made him as "old" and powerful as the Thirteen Empyreans, Equinekind's first gods, whereas the rest became "Tier III"-ranked deities thanks to using Moon Ray/Tunglið's "Spark" and aged normally from there.
  • Mirroring Factions: The Redeeming Six is a collective mirror of the Mane Six. Like the Mane Six, all members of the Redeeming Six were brought together by a certain Pony (Twilight/Amicitia for the Mane Six, Moon Ray/Tunglið for the Redeeming Six) and underwent the biggest trials of their lives (Nightmare Moon for the Mane Six, drug abuse/recovery and Moon Ray's death for the Redeeming Six). Despite each of them having their own different flaws and having screwed up with even each other at times, they still remained friends and eventually became renowned heroes for their promotion of a certain virtue — in the Redeeming Six's case, they promoted redemption and forgiveness, as all members wanted to help others redeem themselves just as they themselves did. And like the Mane Six, all members of the Redeeming Six Ascended to godhood, with Moon Ray/Tunglið being the first to do so. They also become a "Council" (i.e. governing body and/or pantheon) of their own respective territories after they all Ascended, with the Mane Six becoming the Council of Friendship and the Redeemign Six becoming the Council of Redemption.
  • Our Angels Are Different: All of them were mortal Ponies who, after dying of old age or some other cause, became Angels (or Angels of Death) so they could continue helping others and interacting with the world to some extent. While a few Ascended to godhood while still Angels, others lived long enough to become Archangels before Ascending.
  • Our Gods Are Different: All of them are presently eldritch deities — Moon Ray/Tunglið became the first by taking a powerful divine drug that irreversibly warped his divine nature while he was physically ill, then later re-Ascending and becoming a "Preeminent"-ranked god after reaching an epiphany about cycles. Likewise, the rest of the Redeeming Six also became eldritch deities by learning under him and using his "Spark" to Ascend, but because they Ascended under different circumstances they only aged up to become "Tier III"-ranked deities at maximum. Also, Sunny Field's Ascension was a complete accident, while the others willingly chose to Ascend the way they did despite knowing of the risks and consequences that would follow.
  • Physical God: All of them are Alicorns (albeit eldritch ones) and due to how they Ascended, they are incredibly powerful. Moon Ray/Tunglið, the leader of the group, is the "oldest" and most powerful of them all by divine standards because he quite unexpectedly and accidentally Ascended until he was on par with the Thirteen Empyreans. The rest Ascended and became "Tier III"-ranked deities which, while vastly weaker compared to Moon Ray/Tunglið, are still quite powerful than younger deities and demi-deities.
  • Psychic Powers: All of them have psychic powers to a degree, but Sunny Field and Moon Ray are the most powerful and skilled psychics of the group. Moon Ray in particular is a psychic prodigy and his re-Ascension drastically strengthened his natural powers.
  • Psychopomp: Moon Ray/Tunglið, Fret Pick/Dauðadómur, and Whipper Snare/Sekt started out as "Angels of Death" before Ascending to godhood.
  • Rapid Aging: A positive example, due to how deities age in the Codexverse. All members of the Redeeming Six experienced this at some point, to varying degrees — Moon Ray/Tunglið consumed a powerful divine drug that warped his divine nature completely, causing him to rapidly age up until he became a "Preeminent"-ranked godnote  upon coming to an epiphany about cycles. The others, meanwhile, were previously Angels/Archangels until they chose to Ascend to godhood, but only became "Tier III"-ranked deities due to only using Moon Ray/Tunglið's eldritch "Spark" to Ascend.
  • Team Switzerland: After Moon Ray is crowned King by the Grand Primevals, the Redeeming Six become this. While they're a benevolent force who specialize in breaking toxic cycles and possess numerous allies, they're also politically neutral, with their realm, Innlausn, being a Truce Zone that even evil groups and individuals can enter as long as they follow the rules. Their neutrality also serves as a metaphysical protection that keeps people, good or evil, from swaying the Redeeming Six and their subjects to joining either side. As the Redeeming Six contains powerful, eldritch deities, all attempts to make them pick a side had ended badly.
  • Took a Level in Badass: All of them were originally mortal Earth Ponies. After dying, all of them became Angels (or Angels of Death in Moon Ray, Fret Pick, and Whipper Snare's cases) before eventually Ascending to (eldritch) godhood. Moon Ray is the only one to have re-Ascended, becoming the most powerful of the group.
  • True Companions: While they do screw up with each other at times, all of them are close friends and loyal to each other. Notably, if one of them makes mistakes, the others won't hesitate to call them out on it and help them learn from said mistakes. They also chose to Ascend under Moon Ray/Tunglið's tutelage despite knowing they'll turn into eldritch Alicorns if they used his 'Spark' (and seeing the consequences firsthand in Sunny Field/Sól) because they wanted to ensure that Moon Ray/Tunglið and his brother wouldn't be alone as the only eldritch deities in the group.
  • Warrior Prince: All of the male members of the Redeeming Six became Princes after Ascending to godhood, and they are all experienced fighters thanks to the Three Deaths teaching them. Moon Ray/Tunglið, however, is the only one who becomes a King later in the Fourth Age.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: A testament to their strong friendship is their collective willingness to call each other out (and be called out) on mistakes and personal failings. This actually serves to help each other grow and become better people.
  • You Are Not Alone: Part of the reason why the rest of the Redeeming Six chose to Ascend to godhood under Moon Ray's tutelage, despite knowing the risks and consequences — they don't want Moon Ray and Sunny Field to be the only eldritch deities in the group.

Moon Ray Vaughoof, the King of Blues/King Tunglið Hreinsar Innlausn-Heimdrasil, the Sovereign of Cycles
See his page here.

Saint Velvet Heart Vaughoof, the Angel of Love/Queen Ástin Læknar Innlausn-Heimdrasil, the Loving Conscience

Classification: Ethereal/Ascendant/Eldritch

Portfolio: Love, Conscience, Healing

Rank: Divine (Tier I/Godling; resembles an "Intermediate"-ranked deity)

"Everything I do, I do it out of love for others."

Queen Ástin Læknar Innlausn-Heimdrasil, formerly Velvet Heart Vaughoof (her entry here), is the Alicorn goddess of Love, Conscience, and Healing, as well as Moon Ray Vaughoof's second love, fiancée, and later wife.
  • '80s Hair: In her youth, her mane was poofy and tousled in this style, as was common at the time. Once she got older, she started wearing her mane in a simpler yet still wavy and voluminous style.
  • Abstract Apotheosis: Under Moon Ray's tutelage, she would Ascend to eldritch godhood as the Alicorn goddess of Love, Conscience, and Healing. It's noted he willingly chose to learn under Moon Ray — despite his friend having transformed into an eldritch god earlier and the risks involved in using the latter's "Spark" — because he doesn't want him to be alone as the only eldritch god in their group.
  • Action Fashionista: She worked as a model in her youth and still does today, and like her friend Bon Bon/Fasan, she loves trying on new clothes. She also worked as an Angel of Love for two Ages before Ascending to eldritch godhood in the Fourth Age, and later became Queen of the tenth realm Innlausn within Heimdrasil after she and her family moved there. She's also an Action Mom due to being the matriarch of the Liberi Lunae, and woe betide you if you hurt any of her kids.
  • Action Mom: She's the adoptive mother of many Liberi Lunae members, and she worked as an Angel of Love for three Ages before she became an eldritch Alicorn goddess. Even before all that, she was a superheroine with powerful empathy and air magic, protecting fellow models from bad influences and clashing with villains like Fairest Monarch.
  • Age Lift: Janna Lapidus was seventeen-years-old when she started dating Stevie Ray Vaughan, who was in his thirties. Here, she was "twenty-seven or twenty-eight" when it happened (according to Velvet) because Randomfan11, one of the Codexverse writers, was disgusted by the implications of a grown man like Stevie Ray hooking up with a teenager.
  • Angelic Abomination: As an Angel of Love, she has an alternate eldritch form where she becomes a living mirror with her shape, reflecting people's good and bad deeds as well as the people they loved.
  • Angelic Beauty: While she wasn't drop-dead gorgeous like Fragile Beauty or Bon Bon, she was still beautiful enough to become a successful model in her mortal youth. After she died of old age, she became an Angel of Love, which she spent two Ages as until she chose to Ascend to (eldritch) godhood, and even then, she was still rather attractive.
  • Angelic Transformation: After Moon Ray overcomes his fear of losing her a second time and lets her work under him, she becomes an Angel of Love with Adelais empowering her. She later becomes a full-fledged goddess with Moon Ray's help, using his eldritch "Spark" to Ascend.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She's an eldritch Alicorn god who embodies Love, Conscience, and Healing.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: On the receiving end. After she gives Moon Ray her reasons why she Emotion Bombed Sunny Field (which led to Moon Ray getting hurt), Moon Ray asks her if she wanted to punish him just for being his younger brother. The question leaves her struggling to answer, to which he responds that his first wife, Crystal Light, would have been proud of her.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: On the receiving end. When she struggles to answer Moon Ray's Armor-Piercing Question about wanting to punish him, too, for being Sunny Field's brother, he responds that Crystal Light, his emotionally abusive first wife, would have been proud of her for what she did.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance:
    • Her Cutie Mark is a red, patchwork heart that wouldn't be out of place on a quilt. This represents her friendly and loving personality.
    • As an Angel of Love, her alternate eldritch form is a living mirror with her shape, reflecting people's good and bad deeds as well as the people they loved. This reflects her moral character and her desire to help people act on their consciences so they can become better.
  • Attack Reflector: Using her air magic, she can reflect attacks back at the original sender.
  • Barrier Warrior: She can manifest both her air magic and love magic as barriers.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: While not particularly stunning like Fragile Beauty or Bon Bon, she's still a reasonably beautiful model who was still able to have a successful career despite a rough start. She's also a cheerful, friendly, and compassionate mare who, despite having made her own mistakes, desires to help people own up to their mistakes and make good decisions so they can become better.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a cheerful, friendly, and compassionate mare who wants to help people act on their consciences and own up to their mistakes so they can become better people. She's also a loving wife and mother, and was the one who found a then-mortal Moon Ray while he was going through a Despair Event Horizon and helped him get sober. Even after dying, she continued serving as a constant, guiding presence for Moon Ray and others, even becoming one of her husband's Angels to do it. She's also capable of fending for herself, especially since her husband was (at the time) also a God of the Dead and her boss in a way. This would increase when she willingly chose to Ascend to godhood under Moon Ray's tutelage sometime after the latter's re-Ascension, despite knowing she'll end up turning into an eldritch Alicorn like Sunny Field when he did the same thing. And as shown with her attempted emotion-bombing of Sunny Field, she is not someone you'd want to piss off.
  • Blow You Away: Unlike Sunny Field and Moon Ray, she specializes in air magic. While she can do the standard beams and barriers, she can also manifest air-based weapons (though she prefers blade-type weapons), summon powerful gales and tornados, increase her flight and running speed, and reflect attacks back to the original sender. One of her most useful techniques involves warding against air-based poisons, and certain chemicals and liquids, making her an effective counter for those who use them like Fragile Beauty (who used chemical and pheromone-based attacks as Fairest Monarch) and Smog Dragons. When combining her powers with Moon Ray's, she can make new elemental attacks such as rain storms. Her air magic is weak against fire magic, though she can generate enough air to suppress fire or empower fire-based spells by generating air for consumption.
  • Celebrity Power: She's based on Janna Leblanc (nee Lapidus), who was once Stevie Ray Vaughan's fiancée. Unlike her real-life counterpart, however, she was active in the Second Age as a superheroine of sorts, fighting villains like Fairest Monarch, and later became an Angel of Love postmortem. It's well into the Fourth Age that she Ascends to eldritch godhood as the Alicorn goddess of Love, Conscience, and Healing.
  • Chastity Couple: Despite being married twice, her marriages were Sexless Marriagees, with justified reasons.
    • While Velvet did love her first husband, Tranquil Dream, and the two were pretty close, they saw each other more as friends. This is because their marriage was one of convenience — Velvet married Tranquil Dream in order to recover from both her grief over losing Moon Ray in a helicopter accident, and the pain of being emotionally abused by Sunny Field, who blamed her for "causing" his younger brother's death. The only one she loved romantically was Moon Ray. Tranquil Dream, for his part, was very understanding and later gave Velvet his blessing to get together with Moon Ray again after they both died.
    • Velvet's second husband, Moon Ray, on the other hand, is asexual, and thus sees sex differently than others. However, it ends up being zigzagged as they do have sex, though they treat it as a romantic activity. Velvet, for her part, is very supportive and understanding of Moon Ray's asexuality, and was horrified when she learned how Crystal Light treated him during their marriage in part because of it.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: She is a cheerful, friendly, yet empathetic and conscientious mare who desires to help people make good decisions and own up to their mistakes so they become better like she did. However, she can be impulsive, naive, self-righteous, and has the tendency to hold grudges. And by her own admission, she was The Hedonist prior to meeting her mentor, Princess Diamond Lace. Overcoming these flaws and listening to her own conscience more is what made her a better mare.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: In combat, she can use her empathy to predict incoming enemy attacks to a degree by sensing their emotional intent.
  • The Conscience: Thanks to the positive influence of Princess Diamond Lace, her mentor, she became an empathetic and conscientious mare who helps people make good decisions by appealing to their better sides. This also makes her The Redeemer, as part of being a conscience involves making people realize the error of their ways.
    • While Velvet Heart's initial attempts to redeem the then-villainous Fragile Beauty failed because the latter was too consumed by her pride and jealousy to listen, she eventually succeeds following Fragile Beauty's crisis of conscience. After Fragile Beauty's (willing) arrest, Velvet Heart would visit her in prison and serve as a good influence for her, causing Fragile Beauty to pull a Heel–Face Turn and become good again.
    • While Velvet Heart and Sunny Field initially did not get along at all, she eventually overcomes her grudge against him once she realizes Revenge Is Not Justice and gradually gets to know Sunny Field better, learning in the process that he is very similar to Fragile Beauty in many ways. She proceeded to help Sunny Field with his issues, which not only allowed him to finally start healing, but also motivated him to be a better stallion for both his own sake and others'.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a filly, she wanted to be a model, but it got her in conflict with her parents over it once she got the job, so she left home. She found fame and fortune, but fell into a hedonistic lifestyle that culminated in her witnessing a fatal overdose, traumatizing her. Thanks to the timely intervention of Diamond Lace, she ultimately decides to stay and later falls in love with Moon Ray, only to lose him to a sudden helicopter accident. Her close relationship with Moon Ray earns the ire of his older brother, Sunny Field, who blames her for Moon Ray's death and is emotionally abusive to her, leaving her in a borderline-suicidal depression. She finds support in Tranquil Dream, who becomes her therapist and first husband, but she still continues to face hardships from there, including witnessing Moon Ray's worst flaws during the "Big Comeback Tour" and being forced to confront her own worst flaws after she is called out for lashing out at a genuinely remorseful Sunny Field, hurting Moon Ray in the process.
  • Death and the Maiden: She's the "Maiden" to her husband Moon Ray's "Death". While she fell in love with Moon Ray and got engaged to him when he was alive, it's not until the Third Age, after Moon Ray died and became a Death god, that she married him for real. A series of events would restore Moon Ray back to life as an eldritch god that's constantly cycling through three forms, though it's zigzagged as one of his forms is still a god of Death (and Destruction) whereas his other two forms deal with Reincarnation and Life. Meanwhile, she would come Back from the Dead as an eldritch goddess of Love, Conscience, and Healing after training under Moon Ray's wing. They're still Happily Married, though.
  • Despair Event Horizon: While she was deeply affected by Moon Ray's sudden death and a vengeful Sunny Field's emotional abuse, what pushed her into this territory was her parents' well-meaning suggestion that she move on by marrying someone else. Despondent, she considered committing suicide or, failing that, remaining single until the day she died so she could reunite with Moon Ray. Fortunately, her mentor, Diamond Lace, comforted her by telling her Moon Ray wouldn't want her wasting her life pining away for him, which led to her meeting her first husband, Tranquil Dream.
  • Determinator: Deconstructed. While she was mindful of her academic studies, she was determined to fulfill her foalhood dream of becoming a model, and eventually succeeded. However, in the process, she blew off her parents' concerns about her job, and she started living a hedonistic lifestyle full of wild parties and drugs. She soon regrets her impulsiveness when she witnesses a fellow model die from a drug overdose, but is too ashamed to return home and face her parents. Fortunately, meeting and becoming a student of Princess Diamond Lace allowed her to develop a proper moral compass, and she gathered enough courage to apologize and reconcile with her parents.
  • Detrimental Determination: This is what got her into a load of trouble initially. Her resolve in becoming a model led to her butting heads with her parents and blowing off their concerns about her job. Because of that, she nearly went down the same path as Moon Ray or Fragile Beauty, getting caught up in a hedonistic lifestyle full of wild parties and drugs. Watching a fellow model die from a drug overdose in front of her, with no way to help them or knowledge on how to do it, left her so traumatized that she wanted to quit, but felt too ashamed to face her parents again after their falling-out. Princess Diamond Lace allowed her to develop a moral compass that made her more thoughtful, empathetic, and conscientious about her decisions, and she eventualy apologized and reconciled with her parents.
  • Didn't Think This Through: One of her flaws is that, like Moon Ray, she can be impulsive and naive.
    • While she did do research on it, she was so deadset on becoming a model that she blew off her parents' concerns and worries. Consequentially, when she finally achieved her goal, she was naive to the dangers that came with being a model, leading to her developing a hedonistic lifestyle of partying and drugs. This led to her witnessing a fellow model die from a drug overdose, which traumatized her so much that she initially wanted to quit, but was too ashamed to face her parents after how she treated them. Fortunately, Diamond Lace's presence ultimately convinced her to stay so she could protect other models like herself, and she later reconciled with her parents.
    • When she empathically lashed out at Sunny Field for his past emotional abuse, she was completely unaware of his Psychic Link with Moon Ray, causing Moon Ray to be hurt by her action as well. Nonetheless, she was chewed out by everyone for her misdeed, with Moon Ray breaking up with her for reminding him of his emotionally abusive ex-wife. This caused her to realize that Revenge Is Not Justice, and she apologized and made amends with the Vaughoof brothers.
  • Elemental Speed: She can use air magic to increase her flight and running speed.
  • Emotion Bomb: As an empath, she can do this, whether by projecting a positive emotional aura or forcing people to experience the suffering they caused others, directly or indirectly. However, her ability has potential to be abused — when she emapthically forced Sunny Field to feel all the pain she felt since Moon Ray's death because of him, she ended up hurting Moon Ray through the brothers' telepathic link, which got her chewed out by everyone close to her. The incident also forced her to realize that Revenge Is Not Justice, and she eventually forgave Sunny Field while helping him with his own issues.
  • The Empath: Fittingly for her loving and conscientious personality, she is a powerful empath who can sense and feel other people's emotions even from long distances, project an emotional aura that can affect people positively or negatively, and inflict Emotion Bombs onto her targets. She can also heal emotional wounds, conjure up empathic illusions, detect emotional weaknesses, and predict incoming attacks to a degree as a form of Combat Clairvoyance. When around other psychics like Sunny Field and/or Moon Ray, her empathy is enhanced (and vice-versa). Her status as an Angel of Love and, later, an eldritch Love Goddess enhances her empathy even further. However, her empathy can be resisted or interfered with, and she can't properly read sociopaths, who can fool her by displaying shallow levels of emotion.
  • Empathic Healer: As an empath, she can heal emotional wounds, including those inflicted by villainous empaths. However, it's not the same as physical healing and it also makes her literally take on the pains of others.
  • Enemy Scan: As an empath, she can use her power to detect emotional weaknesses for her and others to exploit.
  • Energy Weapon: She can manifest both her air magic and love magic as beams.
  • Fantastic Racism: Defied. While she was angry towards the Oceanaiads for their role in ending the Third Age, she refused to become racist, remembering what happened the last time she let her anger become extremely toxic. Instead, she helped others overcome their own racism so they wouldn't become hateful like she nearly did.
  • The Fashionista: Like Bon Bon and other fashion-minded people, she loves trying new outfits and looking pretty. She admits that one perk of being part of the Redeeming Six is being able to travel and trying new fashions across the world. This is justified; she was a model in her youth, and she practiced with a lot of clothing in order to get the job. It also gives her knowledge on what clothes and/or accessories to pick to enhance one's overall look. While she mellowed out compared to her fillyhood years, she still does it at times. However, unlike her peers, she's very willing to get dirty, especially if lives are on the line.
  • Feminine Mother, Tomboyish Daughter: She's a model who became an Angel of Love and Patron Saint of fashion models in Kerajaan Cahaya. When she Ascended to godhood, she became a goddess of "feminine" domains like Love, Conscience, and Healing. Her adoptive daughter, Edel Vaughoof, is an outgoing, tomboyish Ptero-Dracosaur who aspires to be an athlete.
  • Forgiveness: She eventually forgives Sunny Field for his past emotional abuse, having come to know him as a person while helping him with his issues, and finally acknowledging his genuine remorse over it. To further prove this, when she and Moon Ray decided to get married, she invited Sunny Field to attend their wedding as an olive branch.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: While the emotional abuse she experienced at the hooves of Sunny Field after Moon Ray's death was horrible, it still didn't excuse her attempt to hurt Sunny Field back — especially since how she did it led to Moon Ray getting hurt as well and Sunny Field started genuinely regretting his past actions. The fall-out of her actions led to her realizing that she became little different from Sunny Field or Crystal Light, Moon Ray's emotionally abusive ex-wife, pushing her to try make amends with the brothers.
  • Goal in Life: Since foalhood, she wanted to become a fashion model, inspired by the glitz and glamour of such a job. It's later deconstructed as her resolve in becoming a model caused her to butt heads with her concerned parents, blowing off their concerns and leaving home in confidence that she can succeed. While she does become a popular model, she was naive to her job's downsides and she started living a hedonistic lifestyle, which culminated in witnessing a fellow model die from a drug overdose. This shatters her idealism, forcing her to realize that she treated her parents dismissively and didn't bother to try understand them. Thankfully, she finds a positive influence in Princess Diamond Lace, but while she ultimately chooses to still be a model, she develops realistic expectations of her job and life in general.
  • Godhood Seeker: Defied at first. While she did have the option to Ascend to godhood as Diamond Lace's student, she ultimately chose to live as a mortal so she could reunite with her beloved Moon Ray. Once she does, it's well into the Fourth Age that she decides she wants to become a goddess, but only does so under Moon Ray's tutelage because he had re-Ascended by that point and she didn't want her husband to be alone.
  • God Is Good: Even after willingly becoming an eldritch goddess under Moon Ray/Tunglið's tutelage, she nonetheless remained a friendly, kind, and conscientious person who desires to help others make good choices and redeem themselves. This is evidenced by her domains of Love, Conscience, and Healing.
  • God of Good: She is an eldritch Alicorn goddess who embodies Love, Conscience, and Healing, which all pertain to her desire to heal people and help them make good decisions.
  • Good Counterpart:
    • To Crystal Light, Moon Ray's first wife. Like Crystal, she entered the modeling business and fell into hedonism, but witnessing a fellow model's fatal overdose, and the positive influence of Diamond Lace, influenced her to develop both a moral compass and compassion for her fellow creature. And unlike Crystal, who initially loved Moon Ray but gradually became emotionally abusive in response to his flaws and mistakes, Velvet accepted Moon Ray for all that he is, Warts and All, and helped him become a better stallion throughout all his existence, even if that involved calling him out on his mistakes. And unlike Crystal, who refused to learn from her mistakes and died unrepentant, Velvet acted on her own conscience much more often, which meant she was more willing to be called out for her own mistakes and accept that she did wrong, pushing her to make amends with those she hurt.
    • To Fragile Beauty, also known as Fairest Monarch. While they were both beautiful and successful fashion models who came from lower-class backgrounds, Fragile represents what happens if she let her fears and societal beauty standards rule her without anyone to turn to for positive emotional support. Influenced by the Envious Eye, Fragile became a vain and jealous villainess who preyed on young models and stole their beauty to preserve her own. By contrast, Velvet developed both compassion for her fellow creature and a strong moral compass thanks to her mentor, Princess Diamond Lace, which allowed her to protect other models from Fragile Beauty. She even developed empathy and air magic to counter Fragile's chemical and pheremone-based attacks as well as the Envious Eye itself. This ends when Fragile suffers a crisis of conscience and eventually redeems herself with Velvet's help, becoming the good mare she previously was before her Face–Heel Turn.
  • Happily Married: Twice.
    • While her marriage to her first husband, Tranquil Dream, was a Marriage of Convenience, Velvet still loved him and was close to Tranquil Dream throughout their years together, though they treated each other like friends. Tranquil Dream understood the circumstances that led to Velvet marrying him, so after they both died, he gave Velvet his blessings to go date her First Love, Moon Ray, again.
    • Velvet's marriage to her second husband, Moon Ray, is played realistically. They deeply love each other to the point of being Sickeningly Sweethearts at times, and it seems like they were made for each other. Even after Moon Ray became an eldritch god, he retains his love for Velvet and would do absolutely anything for her. However, even then, their relationship wasn't perfect, and both made serious mistakes at several points that hurt the other. Because he died before he could marry Velvet in their mortal life, Moon Ray had to go through the process of relearning all her quirks and flaws postmortem, during which Moon Ray felt awkward and concerned with making things perfect due to lingering PTSD over his first wife's emotional abuse. He was also initially against Velvet becoming an Angel for fear of losing her again, but thankfully, he overcame his fears and realized he needed to trust his wife more.
  • Heart Beat-Down: As an Angel of Love who was empowered by Adelais (who is also a God of the Dead), she can use weaker versions of Adelais' abilities such as projecting an aura of unconditional love, sensing bonds of love, love-based empowerment, and manifesting love energy in various forms like beams and barriers.
  • The Hedonist: By her own admission, she was hedonistic in her youth as one of the perks of being a model was being able to attend parties, which she enjoyed doing. This led to her doing drugs, which made her prone to bad decisions, only to receive a horrific wake-up call upon witnessing a fellow model suffer a fatal overdose. She got clean after becoming a student of Princess Diamond Lace.
  • Heroic Lineage: She's a surviving Second Age descendant of Truly, a First Age heroine who was also a mortal friend of Princess Wind Whistler/Ataraxia. This makes her a very distant relative of Princess Sweetheart/Astrea and her descendants, as well as a "So Soft Pony" (as Truly had the same genes).
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She's the "Tiny Girl" to her husband Moon Ray's "Huge Guy". While she's a mortal-turned-Angel, Moon Ray is a Second-Age Alicorn, making him larger than her. Moon Ray's re-Ascension into an eldritch god made him grow even larger to the point of utterly dwarfing her. Even after Ascending to godhood, she's still much smaller than her husband as Moon Ray's eldritch "Spark" only boosted her divine age until she became a "Tier III"-ranked goddess. At one point, a cult leader who kidnapped her to assume that Moon Ray is her father when the latter came to rescue her, only to Faint in Shock after learning that no, Moon Ray is actually her husband.
  • Interspecies Adoption: She's presently an eldritch Alicorn goddess, and many of her adoptive children in the Liberi Lunae, whether divine or mortal, were of different species, such as Griffons, Dracosaurs, Deer, and racial hybrids.
  • Irony: Despite being Moon Ray/Tunglið's wife and the matriarch of her family, she is both the youngest and the weakest of her husband's Angels because she became one in the Third Age, whereas Moon Ray/Tunglið's bandmates and Sunny Field became Angels in the Second Age and thus became Archangels by the present day.
  • Jerkass Realization: Twice.
    • After witnessing a fellow model die from a fatal overdose, Velvet realizes that while her parents made mistakes, she was dismissive of their concerns about her dream job and blew them off when they tried to warn her about the dangers. This left Velvet feeling so ashamed of herself that she became reluctant to go back home despite wanting to quit, because that meant facing her parents. Fortunately, with Diamond Lace's help, Velvet reconciles with her parents and apologizes to them for blowing them off.
    • Years later, Velvet lets her grudge towards Sunny Field fester until she reaches a Rage Breaking Point, causing an incident where she used her empathy to "punish" Sunny Field for years of emotional abuse, which also hurts Moon Ray due to him sharing a telepathic bond with his brother. This gets her chewed out by her friends and family, including Moon Ray himself, who breaks up with her for a while due to being reminded of his first wife's emotional abuse. Losing her then-coltfriend forces Velvet to realize that Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse — by letting her anger rule her, she became as bad as Crystal Light and Sunny Field at their worst. She apologizes to Moon Ray and Sunny Field for her actions and makes amends with them, which led to her eventually getting back together with the former while finally forgiving the latter.
  • Karmic Jackpot: The kindness and support Velvet Heart gave Moon Ray while he was in drug rehab led to the latter falling in love with her. That same kindness, along with her willingness to call Moon Ray out on his mistakes while accepting her own, is what repaired and strengthened her relationship with him in the face of hardships, leading to them getting married as they intended.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Despite Sunny Field's genuine repentance, she was too angry at him to acknowledge it, and later empathically lashed out at him in revenge for his past emotional abuse. Unfortunately, this also hurt Moon Ray due to him sharing a telepathic link with Sunny Field, and when he learned why she acted the way she did, he broke up with her. Her other friends and family also chewed her out for her misdeed. She realizes that Revenge Is Not Justice as a consequence, and she apologizes and makes amends with the Vaughoof brothers.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Moon Ray's bandmates, Whipper Snare, Fret Pick, and Key Tap all saw her as a sister and were pretty good friends with her. When Sunny Field started mistreating her following Moon Ray's sudden death, the three took it upon themselves to protect and look after her, concerned for her well-being and disgusted with Sunny Field's behavior. Whipper Snare even tells her to call them up if she ever needs anything.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Zigzagged with her and her adoptive Ptero-Dragon daughter, Edel Vaughoof. While Velvet and Edel are different from each other in many ways, they're very similar in others. For one, they desired to follow their dreams, dealt with parents who disapproved of their career choices, and held grudges against a particular person for a long time until they had a Jerkass Realization. However, unlike Edel, who had emotionally abusive Control Freak parents and was gullible enough to believe badly-researched Malicious Slander, Velvet had parents who genuinely cared for her well-being and had more understandable reasons for holding a grudge. They also have different interests with Edel wanting to become a star athlete while Velvet wanted to become a model.
  • The Magnificent: She was initially known as "the Angel of Love". After Ascending to (eldritch) godhood, she becomes known as "the Loving Conscience".
  • Mama Bear:
    • She panicked when her adoptive daughter, Ruya Clearfeather, ran away and went missing, and pitched in to help find her. She eventually finds Ruya at a seaside inn far away from Kerajaan Cahaya and confronts her, and learns why — Ruya disappeared because she was trying to protect her two Kirin friends, Blossoming Village and her younger brother Small Village, from a potential fallout should their Dark Secrets be discovered. Though proud of Ruya for looking after her friends, she and her husband, Moon Ray/Tunglið, ground her for a few months for her recklessness and secrecy.
    • Like Moon Ray/Tunglið, she was angry with Trost becoming a racist bully towards Ruya Clearfeather for being a Griffon, and scolded and grounded him multiple times for it. Sadly, Trost refused to listen to her until he was called out by his other adoptive siblings and made to see that other souls suffered trauma from dying violent deaths.
  • Marriage of Convenience: Her first marriage was this, as she married her first husband, Tranquil Dream, so she could recover from her grief over losing Moon Ray and live her life until she could reunite with her First Love. Despite this, she was very close to Tranquil Dream during the time they were together, and remained good friends with him long after she married Moon Ray. Tranquil Dream for his part was understanding, and was the one who gave her his blessings to pursue Moon Ray again.
  • Master of Illusion: In combat, she can use her empathy to conjure up empathic illusions.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Her birth name, Velvet Heart, refers to her Cutie Mark, a red, patchwork heart with a quilt-like design. This not only pegs her as a member of the Heart family, but also symbolizes her empathetic, friendly, and conscientious personality.
    • Her first Alicorn name as a Princess is Amare Conscientia, which roughly translates to "love conscience" in Latin. She is an eldritch Alicorn goddess who embodies Love, Conscience, and Healing, which is derived from her desire to heal others and help them develop a conscience so they can make good decisions.
    • Her second Alicorn name as Queen of the realm Innlausn is Ástin Læknar, which translates to "love heals" in Icelandic. This refers to her loving personality and her desire to serve as The Conscience for others so they can make better decisions.
  • Meaningful Rename:
    • After Ascending to eldritch godhood, she is renamed "Amare Conscientia Cahaya" to reflect this change. Both "Amare" and "Conscientia" translate respectively to "love" and "conscience", respectively, which refer to her not only her domains of Love, Conscience, and Healings, but also her loving and morally conscientious personality.
    • Her second Alicorn name as Queen of the realm Innlausn is Ástin Læknar, which translates to "love heals" in Icelandic. This refers to her loving personality and her desire to serve as The Conscience for others so they can make better decisions.
  • Morality Pet: Due to her compassion, sense of humor, and morals, she brought out the best sides of a number of people who were either villains, Jerkasses, or otherwise flawed. Her influence motivated them to become better people.
    • Velvet Heart's positive influence was what motivated Moon Ray to give up drugs and alcohol after nearly dying from his addictions, and he fell in deeply in love with her. Unfortunately, when Moon Ray died suddenly in a helicopter crash, he became very bitter over not marrying Velvet Heart as he intended to, which was worsened by his discovery that Velvet Heart married someone else. It wasn't until the "Big Comeback Tour" that he made efforts in improving himself, especially after Velvet Heart called him out on his selfishness.
    • While they initially didn't get along due to Sunny Field's behavior, especially after Moon Ray's death, Velvet Heart later succeeds in forming a genuine friendship with him once they both realize the mistakes they made with each other. Listening to his woes and helping him with his issues allowed Sunny Field to finally heal, which also caused him to view her in a positive light.
    • Velvet Heart also served as this to Fragile Beauty, aka Fairest Monarch. While Fragile Beauty's vanity at the time prevented her from listening to Velvet Heart or accept the latter's attempts to redeem her, she eventually does after she suffers a Heel Realization and turns herself in to the police. Velvet Heart would consistently visit her in prison, and though initially awkward around her, it was thanks to Velvet Heart that Fragile Beauty regained her empathy and became the benevolent mare she once was.
  • The Mourning After: Justified. While she did have a few flings in her youth, she is demisexual and the only one she felt romantically attracted to was Moon Ray, whom she got engaged to after helping him get sober. Unfortunately, Moon Ray died suddenly thanks to an impulsive decision on his part, and her grief was worsened by Sunny Field's hatred. After her parents suggested marrying someone else to help her move on, she reaches the Despair Event Horizon and considers either committing suicide or staying single for the rest of her life. It's later double-subverted when, thanks to Diamond Lace, she changes her mind and marries Tranquil Dream. After living a full life with her first husband, she dies at a ripe old ag and reunites with Moon Ray, whom she eventually marries with Tranquil Dream's blessings.
  • Mutants: She's a "So Soft Pony", someting she inherited from her First Age ancestor Truly, which gives her a fluffier and softer pelt that serves as natural body armor. She somewhat sees it as an annoyance, though, as she had to shave often in order to wear more form-fitting outfits.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Twice.
    • After a fellow model dies from a drug overdose in front of her, Velvet realizes that her parents were right about the dangers of being a model, and that she blew off their concerns without hearing them out first. However, while she wanted to quit her job, she felt reluctant to go home because she didn't want to face her parents after their falling-out. Thanks to Princess Diamond Lace, however, Velvet eventually apologizes to her parents and reconciles with them.
    • Much later, when Velvet tries to "punish" Sunny Field for years of emotionally abuse by Emotion Bombing him with her pain, she accidentally hurts Moon Ray because of his Psychic Link with Sunny Field. Consequentially, everyone chews her out for it, including Moon Ray, who also breaks up with her because her action reminded him of his emotionally abusive first wife. This causes her to suffer a crisis of conscience where she realizes that by letting her anger rule her, she became as bad as Crystal Light and Sunny Field at their worst. She apologizes to Moon Ray and Sunny Field and makes amends with them, leading to her getting back together with the former while finally forgiving the latter.
  • Nice Girl: While she has flaws and made many mistakes, she is a cheerful, friendly, and compassionate mare who wants to help people act on their consciences so they can grow to become better people. In her youth, while she was a reasonably beautiful model, many people liked her more for her cheeriness and witty sense of humor. Cloudy Brush commented upon meeting her later on that she's "a pretty cool Pony". Moon Ray also fell in love with her because she helped him get sober and accepted his asexuality, which heavily contrasted the hedonistic and later emotionally abusive Crystal Light, his first wife. She also brought out the best in those who were either villains or Jerkassess like Fragile Beauty/Fairest Monarch and Moon Ray's brother, Sunny Field, who both became good people themselves thanks to her influence.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: She's based on Janna Leblanc (nee Lapidus), a Russian immigrant and young rising star in the modeling business who, at the time, was Stevie Ray Vaughan's beloved girlfriend/fiancée up until his death. Like Janna, she marries someone else as part of moving on from Moon Ray's death. However, due to various changes in the choices and circumstances involved, she reunites with Moon Ray after death and, with her first husband's blessings, marries Moon Ray, becoming the matriarch of the Liberi Lunae. She also becomes an Angel of Love, then later, an eldritch Alicorn goddess after personally training under Moon Ray for many years.
  • No Sympathy for Grudgeholders: Justified. While her friends knew how badly Sunny Field treated her in the past, they still called her out for her attempt to Emotion Bomb him in revenge because by that point, Sunny Field had already realized the error of his ways and genuinely tried to atone for them. That and her Emotion Bomb hurt Moon Ray due to the brothers' Psychic Link despite being completely innocent, leading to Moon Ray chewing her out as well and breaking up with her. This forces her to realize that she was becoming little different from Sunny Field and Crystal Light at her worst, and apologized and tried making amends with Sunny Field and Moon Ray for her actions.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • She acknowledges how similar she and Fragile Beauty are and she herself could have gone down the same path of villainy if she didn't have someone like Princess Diamond Lace guide her. She tells Fragile Beauty this while visiting the latter in prison.
Velvet Heart: You're not alone, Fragile. I entered the modeling business with starry eyes just like you, and I, too, would have lost my way had Diamond not met me...
    • When Moon Ray confronted her on her Emotion Bombing of Sunny Field, he notes that "Crystal" (Moon Ray's first wife) would've been proud of what she did. This, combined with her own conscience tormenting her, forces her to realize that by letting her anger towards Sunny Field rule her, she let herself become as bad as him and Crystal Light at their worst. She proceeded to make amends, apologizing to both Moon Ray and Sunny Field for her actions and forgiving Sunny Field for his past mistreatment.
  • Our Angels Are Different: She was a mortal Earth Pony who became an Angel of Love postmortem, having been empowered by Adelais, the "Divine Machine" goddess of Death, Love, and Free Will. Because she became an Angel in the Third Age, she is the youngest of Moon Ray's Angels and thus never became an Archangel like her friends and brother-in-law did.
  • Parental Substitute: She would become the adoptive mother of many Liberi Lunae members, including Prince Dissonant Tune, Edel, and Ruya Clearfeather, and loves all of them dearly.
  • Parents as People: Though a loving wife and a mother, she can be impulsive, self-righteous, and selfish, along with tendencies to blame herself for perceived mistakes and hold grudges against those who wronged her. She also, in one notable incident, lashed out at Sunny Field by Emotion Bombing him as punishment for emotionally abusing her, only to accidentally hurt Moon Ray as well through the brothers' Psychic Link despite not meaning to. She acknowledges that parents generally mean well despite making mistakes, having realized this with her own parents, and has no delusions that she herself is an exception.
  • Personality Powers: Being a cheerful, friendly, and kindhearted mare, she ended up manifesting psychic empathy, air magic, and the "So Soft" genes that she inherted from her First Age ancestor, Truly. After becoming an Angel of Love, she gained weaker versions of the abilities possessed by her divine patron, Adelais, which let her use love magic. After Ascending to godhood, she became the eldritch Alicorn goddess of Love, Conscience, and Healing, which refer to her compassion and desire to help people act on their consciences.
  • Razor Wind: she can use air magic to manifest air-based weapons, though her preferred ones are bladed weapons.
  • The Redeemer: Much like her husband, brother-in-law, and friends, she redeemed quite a few villains and/or otherwise unsavory people.
    • In the Second Age, Velvet Heart helped redeem Fragile Beauty, a fallen model and actress who became the supervillainess Fairest Monarch. While initial attempts to reform Fragile Beauty failed due to the latter's vanity, a series of events led to Fragile Beauty having a crisis of conscience and turning herself in. Velvet Heart proceeded to visit her in prison, and despite Fragile Beauty's awkwardness, she eventually reformed herself thanks to her.
    • Years later, she would redeem Sunny Field, her brother-in-law, postmortem. While initially hateful of him due to Sunny Field's past emotional abuse, she eventually realized she was wrong to hold a grudge when it led to Moon Ray being hurt as well, pushing her to make amends with Sunny Field. During the Third Age, she discovered the depths of Sunny Field's psychological issues and helped him through them, not only allowing him to finally heal, but also influencing her to forgive him for his past actions. As an olive branch, she invited Sunny Field to attend her wedding when she decided to marry Moon Ray.
  • Red Is Heroic: Her clothes frequently feature red, and her Cutie Mark is a red, patchwork heart. She's a cheerful, friendly, and kind mare who is one of the Redeeming Six and helped redeem a few people, such as Fragile Beauty/Fairest Monarch and Sunny Field. She's also a benevolent Angel-turned-eldritch Alicorn goddess.
  • Repression Never Ends Well: Despite her fury and resentment towards Sunny Field (especially since he was also in the Heaven-Realms), she kept her feelings to herself, bottling them up. However, she later snapped and lashed out at Sunny Field by Emotion Bombing him with all the pain she endured since Moon Ray's death. Unfortunately, this also led to Moon Ray being hurt due to his Psychic Link with Sunny Field. This leads to her being called out by everyone close to her, as well as Moon Ray breaking up with her due to her action reminding him of his emotionally abusive ex-wife. Tormented by her own conscience, she realizes what she did wrong and proceeds to make amends with Sunny Field and Moon Ray, forgiving the former while getting back together with the latter.
  • Revenge Is Not Justice: Part of her character arc involves realizing this. While Sunny Field was wrong to blame and abuse her for "causing" Moon Ray's sudden death, she refused to accept Sunny Field's genuine remorse, and kept holding a grudge against him long after he became The Atoner. Eventually, she snapped and inflicted an Emotion Bomb on Sunny Field in revenge... only to hurt Moon Ray as well due to their Psychic Link. Consequentially, everyone called her out on it, including Moon Ray himself, who compared her to his emotionally abusive first wife before separating himself from her. This forced her to realize how bad she herself was becoming, and she proceeds to make amends with the Vaughoof brothers. It's after getting to know Sunny Field and helping him with his problems that she finally forgives him.
  • Rightly Self-Righteous: One flaw of hers is that her being the voice of reason can make her self-righteous at times, believing that only she knows what's best for everyone.
  • Second Love: She is this for Moon Ray, as he fell in love with her for helping him get sober and supporting him emotionally following the deterioration of his first marriage. Despite the hardships caused by Moon Ray's sudden death, they do eventually get together, and many entries and drabbles depict them afterward as being Happily Married.
  • Sexless Marriage: She gets into this twice, though with good reasons for it.
    • Velvet's first marriage with Tranquil Dream justifies this; it was a Marriage of Convenience, and Velvet treated Tranquil Dream as a friend because her heart was already taken by Moon Ray. Tranquil was understanding of this, and gave his wife his blessing to reunite with Moon Ray once they both died.
    • Velvet's second marriage with Moon Ray also justifies this with the latter being a heteroromantic asexual, though it's ultimately downplayed. According to Moon Ray, he doesn't see sex as "gross", he just sees it as another way to express his love for his wife and nothing more. For her part, Velvet is very understanding, which is what led to Moon Ray falling in love with her in the first place.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: She's demisexual, as while she got married twice, the only one she loved romantically was Moon Ray, whom she is presently Happily Married to. Despite this, she remained good friends with her first husband, Tranquil Dream. She also reveals during a Codex Equus interview that she "kissed a few Ponies" in her youth.
Velvet Heart: Yes, I kissed a few Ponies in my youth, but I didn't... feel anything for them, if you know what I mean. And Tranquil Dream, he was more of a friend even though we were close. The only stallion I ever felt attracted to romantically was Moony.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only female Angel, and later the only eldritch goddess within the Redeeming Six.
  • So Proud of You: She's proud of Ruya Clearfeather for looking after her friends, Blossoming Village and Small Village... but because that involved running away from home and keeping secrets even when it became inconvenient, she and Moon Ray/Tunglið proceed to ground Ruya for a few months.
  • Super-Empowering: She became an Angel of Love via being empowered by Adelais, a Love Goddess and one of the Trimortidae, giving her weaker versions of the latter's abilities. This includes the ability to empower herself and others based on how much love they feel.
  • Supernaturally Young Parent: Despite being a mother and grandmother, she remains supernaturally young. It's justified as she became an Angel (and later, an Alicorn goddess) by that point.
  • Supreme Chef: Marrying Moon Ray led to her discovering a love for cooking, with her cookies being a favorite among her family. Prince Dissonant Tune, one of her adoptive sons, enjoyed them so much that he would often try to eat them for himself.
Velvet Heart: Dissy? What did I say?
Prince Dissonant Tune: (swallows) ...Leave some for Ruya?
Velvet Heart: Yes. Now go and give some to her.
    Prince Dissonant Tune: ...Okay, mom...
  • Together in Death: Double-subverted. Following Moon Ray's death, her parents suggested she marry someone else in a well-meaning attempt to help her move on. However, this sent her to the Despair Event Horizon and she seriously considered committing suicide to reunite with Moon Ray. Fortunately, Diamond Lace persuaded her not to, pointing out that Moon Ray wouldn't want her spending her life pining away for him. This led to her marrying Tranquil Dream, but she chose to live as a mortal instead of Ascending so she could reunite with Moon Ray. She eventually gets her wish after dying at a ripe old age.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Like her fellow Redeeming Six in the Second Age, she was an unawakened Earth Pony until she met Princess Diamond Lace, who became her mentor and helped her awaken her tribal magic, leading to her gaining additional powers like empathy and wind magic. With her powers, she became a superheroine of sorts in addition to her modeling job, clashing with the likes of Fragile Beauty/Fairest Monarch (and eventually redeeming her). After dying of old age, she chose to become an Angel of Love working under Moon Ray, her second husband, and she later Ascends to eldritch godhood well into the Fourth Age, becoming the Alicorn goddess of Love, Conscience, and Healing.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: She was not happy to hear that Sunny Field, the stallion who caused her so much pain after Moon Ray's death, was in the Heaven-Realms, too, and avoided him as much as possible. Unlike Moon Ray, however, who eventually forgave Sunny Field for his actions, she continued resenting him, until finally she snaps and tries Emotion Bombing Sunny Field in revenge for what he did, but this got her chewed out by everyone since Sunny Field had genuinely become The Atoner by that point and her action also hurt Moon Ray by proxy due to the brothers' Psychic Link. It also led to Moon Ray breaking up with her due to her action reminding him of his emotionally abusive ex-wife, Crystal Light. Thanks to Tranquil Dream, she realizes her error and Took a Level in Kindness.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
    • While still nice and friendly in her youth, she was rather naive, impulsive, and determined to reach her goals to the point of being ignorant and dismissive of other people's concerns. Witnessing a fatal drug overdose and Prince Diamond Lace's positive influence not only made her more empathetic, but also develop a conscience, causing her to realize that she hurt her parents by not bothering to learn or understand their concerns for her. While still making it clear that she is now an adult, she apologized to her parents and reconciled with them.
    • Sunny Field's past emotional abuse left her holding a strong grudge against him, even after dying and being sent to the Heaven-Realms. It culminated in her attacking Sunny Field with her psychic empathy in revenge, but this led to everyone calling her out on it. She realizes that both her anger and her grudge made her little different from Sunny Field himself at his worst, and this incident influenced her to be more forgiving towards others.
  • Trauma Conga Line: She loses her beloved Moon Ray (who was her fiancé at the time) when he suddenly dies in a helicopter accident trying to fly back to her. She is subjected to emotional abuse by Moon Ray's grieving, angry older brother, Sunny Field, who blamed her for "causing" Moon Ray's death. Then, in a well-meaning attempt to help her move on, her parents suggest that she marry someone else. All this push her to the Despair Event Horizon, where she considered either committing suicide to be Together in Death with Moon Ray or, failing that, remaining single for the rest of her life until she died. Fortunately, Diamond Lace would help her through her grief, which led to her changing her mind and marrying Tranquil Dream instead.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While her meeting Moon Ray did lead to him getting sober, it also instigated a series of events that led to Moon Ray suddenly dying in a helicopter accident. This factored into Sunny Field's grudge against her, as he believed if Moon Ray hadn't met her, he wouldn't have died.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: She was on the giving and receiving ends.
    • Velvet chewed out Moon Ray for not only refusing to hear her reasons for marrying someone else instead of him, but also his selfish obsession with the past and his actions in nearly siding with the wicked celebrities. This partially contributed to Moon Ray's epiphany about letting go, which let him Ascend to true godhood. Afterward, he visited Velvet and apologized for his behavior, listening and finally understanding why she married.
    • Later on, despite knowing of Sunny Field's genuine remorse, Velvet empathically lashed out at him in revenge for his past emotional abuse, which led to Moon Ray being hurt through a Psychic Link with his brother. This not only led to Velvet being chewed out by everyone, but also caused Moon Ray to break up with her because of how she reminded of his abusive first wife. From this, she realized Revenge Is Not Justice and apologized to Sunny Field and Moon Ray for her actions, reconciling with both of them.
Moon Ray Vaughoof: So ya wanna 'punish' me, too, just fer bein' 'is brother?
      Velvet Heart: No, I...
Moon Ray Vaughoof: ...Crystal would've been proud of ye.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Deconstructed. She had a rather naive view of what being a model would be like, and she rebuffed her worried parents' attempts to convince her otherwise. Thus, once she is finally hired as a model, she ends up learning the hard way that actually being one wasn't all sunshine and roses, and the knowledge traumatizes her to the point where she initially considered quitting. Thanks to her mentor, Princess Diamond Lace, she recovers and ultimately decides to stay in the modeling business, though she also acknwledges her parents had every right to be worried for her and apologizes to them for dismissing their concerns.
  • Women Are Wiser: She's much kinder, smarter, and more conscientious than Crystal Light, and served as a steady source of emotional support for Moon Ray while he was recovering from his addictions. However, it's subverted as despite her good aspects, she has her own flaws and made her own mistakes. It's further deconstructed when taking into account the circumstances that shaped her into the mare she is today; had she not met people like Diamond Lace who left a positive influence on her, or developed a conscience that made her realize and/or accept when she did wrong, she would have become as bad as Fragile Beauty, or even Crystal Light and Sunny Field at their worst.
  • You Are Grounded!:
    • While proud and understanding of the reasons why Ruya decided to run away from home, both she and Moon Ray/Tunglið nonetheless ground Ruya for a few months as punishment for both her recklessness and secrecy.
    • She and Moon Ray were also angered when Trost became a racist bully to his adoptive Griffon sister, Ruya Clearfeather, and scolded and grounded him many times. Sadly, Trost refused to change until he was called out by his other adoptive siblings and made to see how even the dead suffered from dying violently like he did.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Of a sort. Moon Ray tells her that his emotionally abusive ex-wife, Crystal Light, would have been proud of her for Emotion Bombing his older brother, Sunny Field, which got himself hurt as well due to their Psychic Link. This causes her to suffer a crisis of conscience, realizing she became emotionally abusive herself in her anger, and she tries to make amends with Moon Ray and Sunny Field afterwards.

Saint Sunny Field Vaughoof, the Archangel of Redemption/Prince Sól Leysir Innlausn-Heimdrasil, the Divine Redeemer

Classification: Ethereal/Elemental/Ascendant/Eldritch

Portfolio: Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, Cycles

Rank: Divine (Tier I/Godling; resembles an "Intermediate"-ranked deity)

"Moony's not the only one who screwed up. Take me, fer example."

Prince Sól Leysir Innlausn-Heimdrasil, born Sunny Field Vaughoof (his entry here), is the eldritch Alicorn god of Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles, and is the older brother of Moon Ray Vaughoof.
  • Abstract Apotheosis: He becomes the eldritch Alicorn god of Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles after years of training under Moon Ray/Tunglið's wing and Ascending using his younger brother's "Spark". His status as an eldritch god wasn't intended at all, and Moon Ray/Tunglið (who was in his "Kematian Cahaya" form at the time) was absolutely devastated and overcome with guilt regarding his mistake.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Justified and deconstructed. Following Moon Ray's collapse and hospitalization for drug abuse, he realized he became little different from his abusive father in how he treated his brother, regardless of the mistakes Moon Ray made. However, when Moon Ray suddenly dies in a helicopter crash, his grief is so overwhelming that he forgets all about his epiphany and goes into a downward spiral, becoming a stubborn Jerkass who blamed Moon Ray's fiancée, Velvet Heart, for "causing" his brother's death. It's not until after he dies that he finally realizes how far he had fallen, and by then, he has alienated everyone in his life, including Moon Ray himself. With Gavisus Manes' help, he becomes The Atoner, making amends for his sins and repairing his relationships with those he hurt. By the present day, he seems to have succeeded, as he is included in the Redeeming Six while Moon Ray and Velvet Heart eventually forgave him and work alongside him with little trouble.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He's often called "Fields", "Big Brother", and/or "Big Brother Fields" by his younger brother, Moon Ray. The last two are out of respect for him.
  • Always Second Best: He was a skilled and successful musician in his own right, but his younger brother, Moon Ray, is a musical prodigy who achieved greater success and fame that far eclipsed his. It's deconstructed as this led to people unfairly comparing him to Moon Ray, which is not helped by Moon Ray ignoring his advice and taking him for granted, causing him to resent always playing second fiddle. It's also implied that his resentment played a part in his emotional abuse of Velvet Heart following Moon Ray's death. By the time he himself dies, people have formed a less favorable opinion of him as an Attention Whore who lashes out at others for constantly being stuck in his kind younger brother's shadow. To his credit, he eventually realizes what a huge Jerkass he was in life and starts atoning for his mistakes post-mortem, following Moon Ray's example in letting go of toxic behaviors and practicing forgiveness.
  • Angelic Abomination: Becoming an Angel (and later an Archangel) gave him an alternative eldritch form where he is a multi-winged fire elemental with a draconic eye for a head and a Pony-like body, surrounded by perpetually rotating cycles.
  • Angelic Transformation: He was turned into an Angel by Moon Ray (with the Three Deaths' help) after reevaluating his initial motives for becoming one and forgiving Sunny Mane for his foalhood abuse. He would eventually be promoted to the rank of Archangel in the Fourth Age for his good deeds. It's also Played for Laughs when, upon being made an Angel, he immediately asks for a harp to go with his Holy Halo and wings, having been influenced by stereotypical depictions of Angels in his time; the Three Deaths were utterly confused, but Moon Ray understood the reference and started laughing.
Sunny Field Vaughoof: So... where is it?
    Three Deaths: Where is what?
    Sunny Field Vaughoof: The harp.
    Three Deaths: ...What?
Sunny Field Vaughoof: Ah got the halo n' wings, so where's the harp? Does it come with the job or...?
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Following his Ascension, he became an eldritch Alicorn god who embodies Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles.
  • Armor-Piercing Response:
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: His Cutie Mark is similar to Moon Ray's, except it depicts an electric guitar with fire burning behind it. This not only represents his love for music, but also his talents in pyrokinesis and his fiery personality.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: Some people have noted In-Universe that he's handsomer compared to his younger brother, Moon Ray, which Moon Ray himself confirmed self-deprecatingly. It's zigzagged — while he's a genuinely good (or at least well-meaning) stallion, his various flaws have caused problems for both himself and others at times; to his credit, he acknowledged and worked hard to resolve them.
Moon Ray Vaughoof: Wanna tell us apart? Here's a tip: Big Brother's the pretty one, Ah'm the ugly one.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: The entire reason why he ran away from home is so he could get away from his broken home and pursue music without having to deal with his parents, especially his father. Not only did he end up overshadowed by Moon Ray, who turned out to be an even better musician than him, a series of unfortunate and tragic events led to him attracting the ire of many people when it's revealed he had been blaming and emotionally abusing Moon Ray's fiancée, Velvet Heart, for "causing" Moon Ray's helicopter accident and death. Eventually, despite having a career that far outlasted his brother's, he chose to retire from music altogether and never played much of it afterward, stating his passion "died with Moony".
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: He starts seeing Gavisus Manes as a loving father-figure for supporting him and helping him through most of his issues. When Gavisus adopts him as one of his sons, he accepts it.
  • Best Friends-in-Law: After atoning for his worst mistakes, he is eventually forgiven by Velvet Heart, or at least is on good terms with her enough that they're able to stand with each other as members of the Redeeming Six. He was even invited to attend Velvet Heart's wedding to his younger brother, Moon Ray, in the Third Age, which he admits surprised him.
  • Big Brother Bully: He was this to Moon Ray at times, even though he tries to do right by him. When they were colts, despite protecting him from their abusive father, he got mad at Moon Ray for taking his guitars despite the latter doing it out of admiration. Then, after they became musicians, he started envying Moon Ray for being a musical prodigy, only for that envy to turn into full-blown resentment when Moon Ray proceeded to waste his talent on bad decisions and constantly ignored his advice. All this culminated in a heated argument that led to both of them getting in a fight in public. He even believed Moon Ray deserved being hospitalized for drug abuse... but when he actually visited his brother, he ended up realizing he was becoming little different from his father and apologized to Moon Ray for how he treated him (and vice-versa).
  • Big Brother Instinct: As a result of growing up together with a drunkard father, he is very protective of Moon Ray, his younger brother, and this increased when they accidentally forged a Psychic Link postmortem.
    • After Moon Ray received a brutal No-Holds-Barred Beatdown from their drunkard father and was hospitalized for it as a colt, Sunny Field tried protecting Moon Ray by bearing the brunt of their father's abuse. Naturally, this led to his body being covered in scars later on.
    • When Sunny Field received a call from Double Trouble about Moon Ray locking himself in a stadium bathroom after a massive Freak Out and refused to come out, he immediately left the city he was performing in just so he could coax his younger brother out. And when Moon Ray finally came out looking traumatized and frightened, he simply held his younger brother and let him cry.
    • This ends up being deconstructed later on. Moon Ray's sudden death via helicopter crash devastated Sunny Field so much that he Took a Level in Jerkass, lashing out at Velvet Heart for "causing" his younger brother's death and alienating everyone around him. Even Moon Ray punches Sunny Field in the face and estranges himself from him when he learns postmortem how his older brother treated Velvet Heart in his absence. While he and Moon Ray eventually reconcile and repair their relationship, Sunny Field's fear of losing him still lingered, and he initially desired to become one of Moon Ray's Angels so he could protect him. However, this gets him and Moon Ray into an argument as Moon Ray had long since grown up and disliked being coddled. Once he realizes this, he changes his reasoning for wanting to become an Angel and instead does so with the intention of wanting to help others earn redemption.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: Despite his various flaws, he's a loving family-stallion who treasures his wife and adoptive/biological children. By contrast, his birth father, Sunny Mane, was an ill-tempered drunk responsible for physically and mentally scarring his two sons.
  • Breath Weapon: He can manifest fire-breathing with pyrokinesis.
  • Broken Pedestal: To his younger brother, Moon Ray Vaughoof. Moon Ray idolized him to the point of calling him "Big Brother" out of respect. Discovering his mistreatment of Velvet Heart causes Moon Ray to lose all respect for his brother and estrange himself from him out of disgust. Losing Moon Ray's trust forces him to realize how far he had fallen, and he apologises to Moon Ray afterward. While they do reconcile and repair their relationship, it's noted to have taken a while due to the seriousness of Sunny Field's actions.
  • Brutal Honesty: He tells Empress Blackrose outright that everything she did in the name of "survival", including her monstrously abusive treatment of her own children, was just her being incredibly stupid and toxic. This forces Blackrose to realize how she acted was completely immoral and become The Atoner to make up for her actions, leading to her forgiving the Dragons for causing/condoning the "Burning of Amorea" event and re-adopting her true name, Rosedust.
Prince Serenum Agrum Cahaya: Ah wouldn't call it 'survival', yer highness.
Changeling Empress Blackrose: ...Then what would you call it?
Prince Serenum Agrum Cahaya: Ah'd call it 'takin' yer head an' shovin' it up yer own flanks'.
  • Celebrity Power: He's based on Jimmie Vaughan, the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan and a Blues musician. While his life is similar to his real-life inspiration's, multiple changes in circumstances and choices made lead to him becoming an Archangel of Redemption postmortem, then Ascending to godhood as an eldritch Alicorn. He also has a telepathic link with his brother, Moon Ray, who is based on Stevie Ray.
  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: By the Fourth Age, he became an Archangel of Redemption, making him powerful than ordinary Angels and giving him eight wings to represent this. He also works directly under Moon Ray, his younger brother and an Alicorn, and is the first and oldest of Moon Ray's Angels.
  • Classical Anti-Hero: Like Moon Ray, he is one. While he's a genuinely good stallion who loves his family and friends, and desires to help people atone for their sins and mistakes like he did, his abusive foalhood left him bitter, angry, and distrustful. He can also be self-righteous, stubborn, and overprotective, especially towards his younger brother, Moon Ray/Tunglið, and has a tendency to hold grudges. Much of his character arc involves forgiving those who hurt him, letting go of his insecurities, and acknowledging that Moon Ray no longer needs him for protection.
  • Color Motif: Red, which symbolize passion, assertiveness, and action. Sunny Field has a red-violet mane and tail, and while he's more emotionally reserved compared to his Hot-Blooded younger brother, he is defined by his Big Brother Instinct towards Moon Ray, as well as his passions for music and technology (including car-collecting). However, red also symbolizes anger, aggression, and brutality — an abusive foalhood left him bitter, angry, and distrustful, and Moon Ray being the better musician and taking him for granted left him feeling resentful. Moon Ray's death pushed him into a downward spiral that caused him to lose his passion for music, and become a hateful, grieving stallion who alienated everyone around him with his Jerkass behavior. Fortunately, he eventually realizes the error of his ways, and in the process of atoning, he developed the desire to help people earn redemption like he did.
  • Commonality Connection: His second hobby in collecting vintage and custom-made cars developed into a general interest in technology, leading to him befriending technologically-minded individuals like Bronze Gear.
  • Condescending Compassion: While he genuinely loves Moon Ray and is protective of him, being frequently ignored and taken for granted by his younger brother caused him to develop a "I'm the older brother so I know better than you" mindset. It's deconstructed as he ultimately became little better than Moon Ray, and learning from Gavisus Manes that he became very similar to his abusive father caused him to have a Jerkass Realization.
  • Cool Big Bro: For all his faults, he genuinely loves Moon Ray and is very close to him. Due to their shared love for music, they're commonly found playing music together during breaks. They grew even closer when they inexplicably developed a Psychic Link during one of their afterlife performances, allowing them to know each other on a deeply intimate level. Even as colts, despite being mad at Moon Ray for constantly taking his guitars without permission, he still devoted himself to protecting his brother after the latter was beaten black and blue by their drunkard father. Naturally, anyone who harms Moon Ray will face his wrath.
  • Covered with Scars: Unlike his brother Moon Ray, who only has a jagged, ugly-looking gash on his head, his entire body is covered in scars due to bearing the brunt of Sunny Mane's abuse to protect Moon Ray when they were foals.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Deconstructed. Moon Ray dying in a helicopter accident was when he really started going downhill, blaming himself for not preventing it while blaming those he deemed responsible — particularly Velvet Heart, Moon Ray's old fiancée at the time of his death. His abusive, cynical behavior not only alienates his loved ones, but also causes his music career to flounder as others made it clear how they hate him as a person, leading to him retiring from music altogether in disgrace. Even Moon Ray estranges himself from him once he learns what he did. Thanks to Gavisus Manes, he realizes how far he had fallen and started putting effort in both improving himself and making amends with those he hurt.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a colt, his ill-tempered, alcoholic father, Sunny Mane, physically and mentally abused him and his younger brother, Moon Ray. After Moon Ray nearly died from Sunny Mane's No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, he tried bearing the brunt of Sunny Mane's abuse so Moon Ray would be protected. His mother, Pepper Cook, tried protecting both of her sons by calling the police, otherwise never did much beyond that due to society not treating Domestic Abuse very seriously at the time. His terrible upbringing left him with a lot of scars and psychological issues that were compounded by the stresses of fame and Moon Ray constantly ignoring his advice. Moon Ray's death put him on a downward spiral that hurt everyone around him, but due to being extremely stubborn, he fails to realize this until after he dies and Moon Ray estranges himself from him out of disgusted anger.
  • Deity of Human Origin: He was a mortal Earth Pony who, after dying, became an Angel (then later an Archangel) working for Moon Ray. After three Ages, he would Ascend to godhood as the Alicorn god of Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles, though he's also an eldritch one as a consequence of using Moon Ray/Tunglið's eldritch "Spark".
  • Delinquent Hair: He usually styles his hair into a pompadour in emulation of Blue Suede Heartstrings, one of the musicians he listened to as a foal. It's subverted — while he isn't a delinquent, he was a product of an abusive home and his upbringing influenced how he behaved later in life.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: As an Earthpony, he has earth magic, which he awakened in addition to his Psychic Powers.
  • Family Theme Naming: He and his male family members are named after cosmic bodies. In his case, his name is Sunny Field Vaughoof, which he shares with his father, Sunny Mane Vaughoof. His biological son is also called Dawn-Star Vaughoof. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Moon Ray Vaughoof, is named after the moon, and his Alicorn name has "Lunae" (which translates to "moon" in Latin) to reference this.
  • Fiery Redhead: Double-subverted. He has a red-violet mane and tail, though while he's more level-headed and cautious than Moon Ray, he actually has anger issues like his younger brother... they just manifest differently. For his part, he acknowledged that his temper have harmed others and has been trying his hardest to control himself.
  • Fireballs: He can create fireballs with his pyrokinesis.
  • Fire/Water Juxtaposition: He has pyrokinetic abilities, and initially he had this dynamic with his younger brother, Moon Ray, who had a Water domain and was a master in water magic. However, whereas he became a god of Fire following his Ascension well into the Fourth Age, Moon Ray would lose his Water domain upon re-Ascending (though he still retains his water magic in some form), subverting the trope.
  • Freudian Excuse: Deconstructed. Like Moon Ray, some of his worst issues and flaws came from his abusive foalhood. But while sympathetic, said issues and flaws turned out to be holding him back. Letting go of them is crucial to his growth as a stallion.
    • His Guilt Complex and subsequent Big Brother Instinct tendencies stemmed from, by his own admission, Moon Ray's foalhood scarring and hospitalization following a nasty beating from their birth father. However, his protectiveness have veered into Knight Templar Big Brother at times, and when Moon Ray died, he fell into a downward spiral that, when combined with his resentment caused him to simultaneously blame himself and blame others for his younger brother's death. It's not until Moon Ray finds out what he became and estranges himself from him postmortem that he finally realizes how badly he messed up, and takes steps to atone for his previous actions.
    • His resentment stemmed from being treated by others as Always Second Best to his musically talented brother, Moon Ray, and having his advice being frequently ignored when they were mortals. While he loves Moon Ray, he also saw him as an Ungrateful Bastard who wasted his talents on drugs and later got himself killed because he refused to listen to his advice. This turned him into a self-righteous person with a Condescending Compassion mindset. When combined with his grief over Moon Ray's death and stubborness, his resentment turned him into an outright toxic person who lashed out at everyone he deemed responsible for his loss, all while refusing to acknowledge that his actions were wrong. This led to his relationship with Moon Ray deteriorating when the latter learns how abusive he became to his old fiancée, Velvet Heart, forcing him to realize how far he had fallen.
    • He suffered from huge anger issues as a result of being constantly around his birth father's Hair-Trigger Temper, though in his case his own anger manifested as Tranquil Fury. He hated his father for abusing him and Moon Ray as foals, and when they became musicians, he was angered by both how people saw him as Always Second Best to Moon Ray and how Moon Ray himself frequently ignored his advice, leaving him feeling deeply unappreciated. His anger reached its peak when Moon Ray suddenly died in a helicopter accident, and this, combined with his resentment, sent him on a downward spiral where he Took a Level in Jerkass and lashed out at everyone he believed to have hurt him and Moon Ray. For all his efforts in not becoming like his abusive father, his grudge and other issues all but ensure he ends up repeating The Chain of Harm, and it's not until after he dies that he finally realizes how badly he messed up.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: As pointed out by Fret Pick, losing a loved one is always tragic and difficult to deal with, but it still doesn't justify his borderline emotionally abusive treatment of Moon Ray's filyfriend, Velvet Heart.
Fret Pick: Look, Fields, Ah know what you're goin' through. Moony's death hurt me, too. Hurt all of us. But it still ain't a good excuse for you ta treat 'is girlfriend like shit!
  • God Is Flawed: Like Moon Ray, he has his own flaws — in his case, he suffers from anger and trust issues, harbors deep resentment over being taken for granted by others as well as an inferiority complex over being ignored in favor of his more famous, talented brother, and can be stubbornly self-righteous. He also suffers from a Guilt Complex regarding his own mistakes, whether real or perceived. Despite this, he loves his family and friends, and genuinely desires to help people earn redemption and break toxic cycles. He also becomes an Alicorn god of Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles well into the Fourth Age after training under Moon Ray for many years, albeit as an eldritch one due to Moon Ray's "Spark" being warped by the time he used it to Ascend.
  • God Is Good: He's presently an eldritch Alicorn god who embodies Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles. While he's mostly a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, he genuinely means well, tries to be a loving father and husband that his own father wasn't, wants to help people repent for their mistakes just as he did.
  • God of Fire: He eventually Ascends and becomes an eldritch god of Fire, his natural pyrokinesis translating into a full-fledged domain.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Downplayed. Despite Moon Ray's transformation into Caelum Filum and re-Ascension knocking him out and being constantly exposed to his younger brother's visions, he's left somewhat insane thanks to his stubborn will. Moon Ray admits he was lucky his older brother was so stubborn, since things would've been a lot worse otherwise.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: Following his promotion/transformation into an Archangel, he would gain a total of eight wings similar to Saint Sweetheart pre-Ascension. His multiple wings peg him as a powerful, supernatural entity, given that being an Archangel gives him incredible power that surpasses young deities.
  • Green Thumb: As an Earth Pony, he has plant magic, which he awakened in addition to his Psychic Powers.
  • Guilt Complex: Deconstructed. One of his flaws is that he tends to be very hard on himself in regards to Moon Ray, which stemmed from their abusive upbringing. Moon Ray's foalhood scarring affected him so much that he became extremely protective of his younger brother. When Moon Ray died in a helicopter accident, he blamed himself for it so much that his own guilt turned into anger and bitterness, influencing him to lash out at those he deemed responsible for Moon Ray's death — especially Velvet Heart, since Moon Ray was trying to go back to her the day he died. This not only alienated his loved ones (including Moon Ray himself, once he found out), but also caused others to lose sympathy for him, thinking his increasingly Jerkass behavior was really him acting in envy towards his brother's greater fame. His guilt over not protecting Moon Ray was also his initial reason for wanting to become an Angel, until he realized his reasoning was selfish because Moon Ray was no longer the scared little colt he used to be. While he has gotten better since, his guilt complex can resurface at times whenever he screwed up or thinks he screwed up, and feels he doesn't deserve forgiveness for all the bad things he did in life.
  • Happily Adopted:
    • As a teenager, Sunny Field was taken in by a stallion named Counter Tales, a club owner who took pity on him after learning he's essentially a homeless runaway. Counter Tales became more of a father-figure to him than Sunny Mane ever was, and with the older stallion's support, Sunny Field would pursue music wholeheartedly, paving the way to his future career.
    • Later, Sunny Field would be adopted by Gavisus Manes postmortem despite not even being a Death god. Gavisus saw Sunny Field as his own son and, though willing to call him out on his mistakes, wanted to give him a loving father-figure. Having grown up with an abusive father, Sunny Field accepted his adoption.
    • After marrying his wife Constance, he would adopt two fillies as his daughters, fearing that he would repeat the cycle of abuse if he sired them biologically. Despite his fears, he would be a better father to them than his own birth father was to him, and he would extend this to his biological son, Dawn-Star Vaughoof.
  • Harmful to Minors: His birth father was an ill-tempered alcoholic who drank in front of him and Moon Ray, and was physically abusive as well, leaving both of them permanently scarred as foals. Unlike Moon Ray, however, he bore the brunt of their birth father's abuse to protect him. This would contribute to a messed-up adulthood and influence how he would behave around others later on.
  • Hates Their Parent: Deconstructed. Similarly to Moon Ray, part of his character development involves letting go of the grudges he had towards a parent, in this case both of them.
    • Sunny Field hates Sunny Mane for abusing him and Moon Ray when they were foals, and this influenced his resolve not to be like his father later on. Worse, he saw for himself what Sunny Mane could potentially be if he wasn't constantly drunk or ruled by his Hair-Trigger Temper, as once he took both Sunny Field and Moon Ray out fishing without any incident or strings attached. Despite his best efforts, however, Moon Ray's death caused Sunny Field to backpedal and become emotionally abusive, especially towards Velvet Heart, and he was too stubborn to let it go. It took dying, losing Moon Ray's respect and trust in him, and talking to Gavisus Manes for him to realize how far he had fallen and start making amends with those he hurt. Developing a Psychic Link with Moon Ray later on pushes him to forgive Sunny Mane, if only to get rid of his father's bad influence.
    • To a lesser extent, Sunny Field also hated his mother, Pepper Cook, for how she never divorced Sunny Mane or kicked him out of the house despite him being so abusive to everyone. Once he learns post-mortem that her actions stemmed from the deeply misogynistic societal standards of her time, he gained a better understanding of Pepper Cook's actions and eventually forgave her.
  • I Call It "Vera": His Magitech guitar is named Family Style, which In-Universe came from an album he created together with Moon Ray in the Second Age. It references the real-life album "Family Style", which was a collaboration between Stevie Ray Vaughan and his older brother, Jimmie Vaughan.
  • Identifying the Body: Both he and a friend, Sunshine Cream, were called in by the morgue to identify Moon Ray's body following the helicopter crash because his body was left extremely mangled. This significantly contributed to his grief and inability to move on from his brother's death in life.
  • I Hate Past Me: He admits part of why he hates judicial extremists is because he saw what he could've become if he didn't acknowledge his own mistakes and change himself for the better.
  • In-Series Nickname: He's often called "Fields", "Big Brother", and/or "Big Brother Fields" by Moon Ray, who respects him a great deal. At one point, he wonders if he should call Moon Ray "Big Brother" instead after seeing the latter's much larger and ancient Alicorn form, but Moon Ray refuses to let him since he's older biologically.
Sunny Field Vaughoof: Should Ah be callin' ya 'Big Brother' now?
Moon Ray Vaughoof: Nah. Doesn't matter if Ah'm older than ya now - you were born first. So you'll always be 'Big Brother Fields' t' me."
  • Jerkass Realization: Thrice.
    • He has one following Moon Ray's near-death experience and hospitalization. At first he thought Moon Ray had it coming for not listening to his advice on avoiding drugs, but when he visited his brother in the hospital, he remembered how he watched Moon Ray recover from his foalhood scarring as a colt. He realized he was dangerously close to becoming similar to Sunny Mane after Moon Ray fell into a depression during rehab in light of some troubling discoveries about Crystal Light's character, and he would apologize and reconcile with his brother.
    • He would have a minor one while training under Bossa Nova Heartstrings following Moon Ray's death. Though still angry and bitter over losing his brother, he realized he actually didn't want Moon Ray's friends or anyone else to get hurt by War Rock, and devoted his efforts in protecting them. Sadly, despite Bossa Nova's best efforts, he was too stubborn to let go of his grudge towards Velvet Heart, even after War Rock was killed by Ace and Melody.
    • After dying himself, he would fall into a depression when Moon Ray learns of Velvet Heart's emotional abuse and estranges himself from him. Gavisus Manes would talk to him, and the ensuing conversation causes him to realize for real how he completely forgot about his earlier epiphany and became similar to his birth father, wasting his life by wallowing in self-pity and blaming others for Moon Ray's death. Learning from Gavisus that he can earn forgiveness and a second chance for his actions makes him break down crying.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's a very flawed stallion, with anger issues, self-righteousness, and stubbornness being a few of his flaws, but he genuinely means well and loves his family and friends. He also wants to help people earn redemption and break The Chain of Harm, especially in those who suffered from abuse like he did. To his credit, he has acknowledged the "Jerk" part of the trope and has been working on controlling/regulating his own flaws.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: Deconstructed. Growing up with an abusive father made him very protective of Moon Ray to the point of distrusting anyone who could harm his brother. But at the same time, he resented Moon Ray for frequently ignoring his advice and taking him for granted. When Moon Ray died, he was so devastated that he lost himself in anger and grief for much of his life, alienating his loved ones and even Moon Ray himself once Velvet Heart's mistreatment was made known. He eventually realizes the error of his ways and atones for them, but when he tried becoming one of Moon Ray's Angels, Moon Ray turned him down because he had Ascended by then and didn't want to be "coddled". This forces him to acknowledge how much Moon Ray had grown and matured, so he decided to become an Angel so he could help people redeem themselves for serious mistakes instead.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He treated Velvet Heart horribly following Moon Ray's death, since Moon Ray was trying to go back to her the day he died, and stubbornly clung to his grudge. Not only did this cost him the fame he wanted, leading to his retirement from music altogether, but he also was called out for his Jerkass behavior even by Moon Ray's friends. After dying of old age, he would be punched in the face by Moon Ray, who was furious with him over Velvet Heart's mistreatment and estranged himself from him for a good while. Losing Moon Ray's love and respect was what finally forced him to acknowledge he had been in the wrong and work hard to atone for his actions. Velvet Heart herself also treated him coldly in retaliation for how he treated her in life, something he completely understood, though she would eventually come to terms with it and forgive him.
  • Lifesaving Misfortune: He and his wife Constance possibly would have died along with Moon Ray when the helicopter crashed into a ski hill, had the other seats not been taken by Sunshine Cream's entourage and Moon Ray didn't take the last seat. Unfortunately, he was so affected by the news of Moon Ray's death that he never really got over it, and remained in mourning for the rest of his life.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Much like Moon Ray, he ultimately became different from his birth father, Sunny Mane, whom he shares his first name with.
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Archangel of Redemption".
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His birth name, Sunny Field, evokes the image of a sunny field, which can be both idyllic and detrimental in that the weather can be unbearable in those areas without shade. This refers to him being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold who, despite having a lot of flaws, is genuinely heroic and loves his friends and family.
    • Following his eldritch Ascension, he would be crowned as Prince under his first Alicorn name, Serenum Agrum Cahaya. Serenum Agrum essentially translates to "Sunny Field", his birth name, in Latin, while Cahaya refers to Kerajaan Cahaya, the kingdom he now looks after.
    • After the Redeeming Six moves into Heimdrasil and creates the realm Innlausn out of the Shadowed Ones' abandoned tenth realm, he gains a second Alicorn name, Sól Leysir, which translates to "sun redeems" in Icelandic. It not only has elements of his birth name, but also refers to his domain of Redemption and desire to help redeem others.

It not only has elements of his birth name, but also refers to his domain of Redemption and desire to help redeem others.
  • Mind over Matter: One of his Psychic Powers is psychic telekinesis.
  • Mutants: Both he and his younger brother, Moon Ray, are maternal Fourth Age descendants of Tex, one of the First Age's Big Brother Ponies. This means they both inherited his "Big Brother" gene, making them naturally bigger, stronger, and tougher than the average Pony.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Thanks to Gavisus Manes, he realizes that he completely forgot about his earlier epiphany regarding his abusive birth father and wasted his life by becoming a Jerkass who wallowed in self-pity and blamed others for Moon Ray's death. Learning that he can earn forgiveness and a second chance for his actions causes him to break down crying.
Sunny Field Vaughoof: ...Ah bucked up bad, didn't Ah?
Gavisus Manes: Yes, you did... but no-creature is beyond forgiveness, or a second chance. There may be hope for you yet, Sunny Field. All you have to do is take the first step.
  • Never My Fault: Deconstructed. He was so caught up in his own grief, anger, and bitterness over Moon Ray's death that he lashed out at those he deemed responsible, including Velvet Heart. Despite people trying to make him see the error of his ways, he refused to listen because he was stubbornly convinced that he was right. He finally realizes that he was wrong after he dies of old age, but by then he has alienated almost everyone close to him — including Moon Ray himself, who punches him in the face and estranges himself from him for his Jerkass behavior. With Gavisus Manes' help, he becomes The Atoner and spends a long time atoning for his misdeeds, reconciling with those he hurt and restoring their trust and love for him.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: He's based on Jimmie Vaughan, the older brother of iconic blues musician Stevie Ray Vaughan. Much like Jimmie, he was close to Moon Ray and was responsible for inspiring him to take up music as a career choice. While he became a famous blues musician in his own right and had a career that far outlasted his younger brother's, he is outshined by the more talented Moon Ray. It's noted that he was devastated by Moon Ray's death in a helicopter accident and never really got over it since.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: During Moon Ray's funeral, he subjected War Rock to one after overhearing him badmouthing his deceased brother. While they were forcibly separated, no one sympathized with War Rock for what he did, and the incident was what led to War Rock attacking him and his family out of spite after becoming an official supervillain.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Deconstructed. He's Velvet Heart's brother-in-law by virtue of her being the fiancée and later second wife of his younger brother, Moon Ray/Tunglið. However, after Moon Ray died in a helicopter accident, he treated Velvet Heart coldly for "causing" his brother's death because Moon Ray was trying to go back to her on the day he died. Naturally, everyone takes offense to his Jerkass behavior, but he stubbornly refused to let go of his grudge until he himself dies of old age, after which he is confronted and punched in the face by Moon Ray himself, who is understandably furious over Velvet Heart's mistreatment. Then it's reconstructed — with Gavisus Manes' help, he realizes that he became little different from his abusive father and worked hard to atone for his actions. Eventually, his efforts earn Velvet Heart's forgiveness, and their relationships improve significantly from there.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Both he and his father have Sunny as their first names, but they have different middle names to set each other apart. He also shares the same name as Blue Suede Heartstrings/Prince Caerulus Melodia Equestria's mortal mother and medical Glory Hound, Sunny Love and Sunny, respectively.
  • Our Angels Are Different: He was turned into an Angel of Redemption by Moon Ray (with the Three Deaths' help) after he reevaluated his initial motives and forgave Sunny Mane's spirit. As an Angel of Redemption, his job is to help repentant people atone for their sins and mistakes, and has powers revolving around this like granting boons and inflicting curses that he can revoke after the target(s) sufficiently redeemed themselves. After three Ages of good deeds, he is promoted to the rank of Archangel, giving him more wings and incredible power that surpasses even the power of young deities. He also has an alternate form that turns him into an Angelic Abomination, which is true to the Biblical depiction of Angels.
  • Papa Wolf: He tried to protect his wife and his adoptive/biological children when War Rock attacked, though it was implied to be a one-sided clash due to him being an unawakened Earthpony while War Rock is an Evil Sorcerer. Fortunately, his Psychic Teleportation manifested in time to save him and his family, though they ended up teleporting to a completely different Ponyland state in the process.
  • Parental Substitute: After marrying his wife Constance, he would become the adoptive father of two fillies because he feared repeating the cycle of abuse if he sired them biologically. However, his fears ultimately proved unfounded when he sired a biological son in Dawn-Star Vaughoof, and he would continue being a loving father to his children despite his flaws and mistakes.
  • Parents as People: As a consequence of growing up in an abusive home, he's an extremely flawed stallion, with a bad temper, trust issues, and a worrying tendency to envy/resent others over real and/or imagined grievances. Despite his flaws, though, he genuinely cherishes his wife and biological/adoptive children, and wants to be the loving husband and father that his birth father wasn't. He also ultimately chose to better himself and atone for his mistakes when called out on it, unlike his birth father who died without doing so and was tormented in the Hell-Realms for it.
  • Personality Powers:
    • His Psychic Teleportation stemmed from his desire to protect others and, ultimately, his guilt over his perceived inability to prevent Moon Ray from dying in a helicopter accident.
    • His pyrokinesis seems like a subversion due to being emotionally restrained compared to Moon Ray, but he actually has similar anger issues as well as a hotheaded nature just like his younger brother, which he manifests differently.
    • His powers as an Angel of Redemption ultimately came from his genuine wish to help others redeem themselves for huge mistakes just as he did. Among other things, he can sense guilt and remorse in others, grant blessings to aid people in their redemption, and inflict curses that can be revoked either under certain conditions or after a sufficient number of good deeds is made.
    • After Ascending to eldritch godhood, he gained the domains of Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles. All these domains involve earning redemption by learning from past mistakes and breaking Vicious Cycles by getting rid of toxic behaviors, whether in oneself or others.
  • Photographic Memory: Subverted. His retrocognitive powers allow him to gain insight on people's worst sins and flaws, making him appear as if he has a photographic memory, but he actually doesn't.
  • Playing with Fire: He would gain pyrokinetic abilities under the tutelage of Bossa Nova Heartstrings, Gavisus Manes, and other deities, allowing him to control fire with his mind. He can change the surrounding temperatures, make himself extremely hot to touch, and generate an aura of flame to protect himself against water and ice magics. He can also manifest his power as Fireballs, beams of flame, and fire-breathing, and set things on fire at long distances. This would put him in contrast to Moon Ray, making him the ideal partner and counter.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Downplayed. He admits he had a hard time understanding Moon Ray's asexuality since it went against everything he grew up with, but later comes to accept it after seeing the hurt Moon Ray went through with Crystal Light.
  • Psychic Link: He shares one with his younger brother, Moon Ray Vaughoof, which came from performing together in one afterlife concert post-mortem. Sunny Field believes they were so musically focused that it led to their minds connecting unconsciously. As a result, they can psychically communicate and share past/future visions with each other, and synchronize their minds so they fight as one. They can also block out each other's mental presence by 'closing the door' so they can have privacy until they decide to 'open' their link again. While they didn't take being psychically connected well at first, it ultimately made them much closer than before, with Sunny Field being influenced to forgive Sunny Mane just from being exposed to Moon Ray's thoughts regarding sinners, addicts, and abuse victims.
  • Psychic Powers: Like Moon Ray, he would gain psychic powers of his own like telepathy and telekinesis, but he would develop unique ones to contrast his brother's powers like Psychic Teleportation and retrocognition.
  • Psychic Teleportation: This is considered to be one of his strongest Psychic Powers, which he manifested while protecting his wife and children from War Rock. After honing his powers under Bossa Nova nad later Gavisus Manes, he became a very skilled teleporter who can do long-range teleportation (traveling great distances and/or sending allies/enemies away from the battlefield), move past walls and obstacles, teleport large objects to crush things, slam his enemies into hard surfaces and weapons, and induce Tele-Frag incidents like teleporting objects inside his foes or teleporting them into machines (and other things).
  • Punched Across the Room: He gets into a huge fight with Moon Ray postmortem over what happened to Velvet Heart, during which Moon Ray punches him straight into the wall of a Heaven-Realm. Considering how he wrongly blamed and mistreated Velvet Heart in life, it was pretty well-deserved.
Moon Ray Vaughoof: (roaring) Ya SHIT-FACED SONUVABITCH!
  • Punny Name: His family surname, Vaughoof, is a play on Jimmie Vaughan's last name, but modified to be spelled with "hoof" to fit in the My Little Pony universe.
  • Purple Is Powerful: He has a red-violet mane and tail, and prior to his Ascension, he was both an Archangel and the oldest of Moon Ray/Tunglið's Angels. After overcoming his own issues and deciding he wanted to work alongside his brother as an equal, he Ascends to godhood under Moon Ray/Tunglið's tutelage... but as an eldritch Alicorn due to using Moon Ray/Tunglið's eldritch "Spark" to achieve his Ascension. He's also a "Tier III"-ranked god physically when chronologically he's a "Godling".
  • Rapid Aging: This happens to him accidentally. Because Moon Ray re-Ascended as an eldritch god, when he used Moon Ray's 'Spark', it rapidly aged him up until he became a "Tier III"-ranked god — when under normal circumstances, he would have become a "Godling" like Saint/Princess Sweetheart due to having previously been an Archangel. He didn't take this or his concurrent Eldritch Transformation very well, but eventually he forgave Moon Ray for what happened since it was an accdient.
  • Red Is Heroic: He has a red-violet mane and tail, and despite his flaws, he's ultimately a well-meaning Jerk with a Heart of Gold who genuinely loves his family and friends. He's also a member of the Redeeming Six, a group that specializes in helping others earn redemption and forgiveness, and is a god whose domains specifically involve redemption via learning from past mistakes and breaking Vicious Cycles.
  • Red Is Violent: He has a red-violet mane and tail, and due to his abusive foalhood, he's hot-tempered (but in a different way) and had huge trust issues. Notably, back when he was a mortal, he alienated most of his family and friends because he was too engrossed in his anger and grief over Moon Ray's untimely death, and too stubborn to let it go or realize how he was hurting others with his behavior. To his credit, he did acknowledge his flaws eventually and tried to improve himself, though it wasn't easy.
  • The Runaway: Of the "Abused Runaway" type. While he ran away from home to follow his dreams of becoming a musician, he also did so to get away from his parents, especially his father, an ill-tempered drunk who abused him and Moon Ray. Moon Ray begged to go with him, but he refused because he didn't know how to look after his younger brother alone without a home or financial support.
  • Scars Are Forever: His entire body is covered in scars, which came from bearing the brunt of Sunny Mane's abuse to protect his brother as a foal.
  • Seers: Inverted. In contrast to Moon Ray, who has precognition, he has retrocognition, allowing him to see the past through dreams. Usually, his visions give him insight on people's worst flaws, sins, and mistakes, allowing him to seek out those who are genuinely remorseful and help them atone, though it does make him distrusting at times. This power first manifested when his family was attacked by War Rock, giving him knowledge of War Rock's deeds and making him realize he actually didn't want his friends and family to get hurt. At first, he hated his retrocognition due to how it kept reminding him of his past mistakes following Moon Ray's death, but after dying himself and realizing his visions were actually telling him to make up for his mistakes, he came to accept his power.
  • A Shared Suffering:
    • He symapthizes with those who made huge mistakes. A huge reason why he decided to become an Angel comes from his desire to help genuinely remorseful people earn redemption by making them face the consequences of their actions, just as he did.
    • Because he grew up in an abusive home, he sympathizes with abuse victims and often protects them. Part of why he was able to get past Aerri's initial hostility is because he genuinely sympathizes with her abusive upbringing and wanted to adopt her to give her the loving family she deserved. Aerri was so surprised by his honesty that she fell into Stunned Silence. He does adopt her as his daughter later on, making Aerri and Edel (who was adopted by his brother, Moon Ray) adoptive cousins.
    • He sympathizes with those who are constantly stuck in the shadow of more talented family members, which has led to him befriending individuals like Luna and Shining Armor, who were unfairly marginalized by others in favor of their more popular/powerful siblings. He was even disgusted by how Shining Armor was treated as the 'lesser' brother of Princess Twilight/Amicitia Sparkle whose only purpose is to sire female heirs for the ruling Princess, just for being born a stallion.
Sunny Field Vaughoof: Ah'd like ta see ‘em flankholes live with bits 'tween their legs and see how THEY like it.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Zigzagged. He's level-headed, rational, and cautious whereas Moon Ray is emotional, trusting, and impulsive. He was also more assertive and the leader of the two when they were colts, with Moon Ray tagging along. During their music careers, he tried to keep Moon Ray away from drugs, with his advice going unheeded until Moon Ray's hospitalization. Their hobbies also contrasted, with him being a car collector who eventually became interested in technology in general, while Moon Ray is an artist. However, he himself was not perfect — even before Moon Ray's death, he, too, was capable of anger, stubbornness, and resentment, and it showed in both his treatment of Moon Ray and everyone connected to him and his brother. By the time he dies, it's Moon Ray who becomes the mature and level-headed sibling, with him ultimately following his younger brother's example to improve himself and make up for his own mistakes.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: One of his flaws is that he's prone to hurling profanities when angry, though he's trying to control it.
  • Stop Worshipping Me: Like Moon Ray before him, he felt embarrassed when people started worshiping him as a Saint and redeemer of sinners.
  • Super-Speed: As an Earthpony, he has naturally enhanced speed.
  • Super-Strength: As an Earthpony, he has naturally enhanced strength.
  • Super-Toughness: As an Earthpony, he has naturally enhanced endurance.
  • Synchronization: While very useful, his Psychic Link with Moon Ray leaves them both vulnerable to psychic attacks; if one of them is affected, the other will feel their psychic pain. This later backfires on both of them when Moon Ray's transformation into Caelum Filum and re-Ascension not only knocked him out, but also left him somewhat insane from constant exposure to so many visions at once; the only thing that kept him from going completely insane was his stubborn will. His own Eldritch Transformation later on caused both him and Moon Ray agony, leaving Moon Ray ridden with guilt over what happened as he was the one who helped him Ascend but didn't realize his divine "Spark" was warped until it was too late.
  • Tele-Frag: Name-dropped by Cultura. With his teleportation abilities, he can do things like teleporting objects inside his foes or teleporting them into machines (and other things).
  • Telepathy: Like Moon Ray, he has telepathic abilities. This is what they both interpreted their Psychic Link as after first developing it during an 'afterlife concert', but once they discovered that no, it really isn't, they didn't take it well. At least at first.
  • Together in Death: After spending many years mourning Moon Ray's death, he eventually dies of old age at the hooves of his younger brother's memorial statue while visiting it one night. Moon Ray, by this point an Alicorn demigod, would then arrive to usher his soul into the Heaven-Realms, leading to a tearful reunion between them. Unfortunately, Moon Ray would later learn of how he emotionally abused Velvet Heart and punch his brother in the face in retaliation, leading to their separation.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Much like Moon Ray/Tunglið before him, he would undergo this. He was an unawakened Earth Pony until War Rock tried attacking him and his family out of spite, during which he manifested his Psychic Teleportation abilities in addition to awakening his Earth Pony magic. Under Bossa Nova Heartstrings' tutelage, he gained pyrokinesis, and would gain more psychic powers like retrocognition and other Psychic Powers postmortem under Gavisus Manes. After reconciling with Moon Ray and thinking it over, he chooses to become Moon Ray's first Angel — and because he was the first to be made, he's the first among Moon Ray's Angels to be elevated to Archangel. He later Ascends to eldritch godhood well into the Fourth Age, becoming the Alicorn god of Learning from the Past, Redemption, Fire, and Cycles; though he genuinely wanted to Ascend, him becoming an eldritch god was completely accidental on Moon Ray's part, bringing grief to both sides.
  • Tranquil Fury: In contrast to Moon Ray's more explosive outbursts, he responds with more calm and controlled anger that is no less frightening. One example involved him becoming "tranquilly furious" when he learned that Edel's birth parents subjected her younger biological sister, Phönix, to emotional abuse and indoctrination to mold her into their ideal heir. Fortunately, Phönix was rescued in a timely manner and adopted into the Liberi Lunae just as Edel was.
Sunny Field Vaughoof: ...They did WHAT?!
  • Trapped in Another World: Downplayed. While protecting his family from War Rock, he suddenly manifested his teleportation powers, which saved him and his family but landed them in a completely different Ponyland state in the process, far away from home.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening:
    • He first manifested his Psychic Teleportation powers while trying to defending his family from War Rock, who's a supervillain by this point and attacked purely out of spite. While it saved him and his family, they ended up in a completely different state of Ponyland in the process. War Rock was just as shocked and confused as he was.
War Rock: What?! Where'd they go?!
    • The same incident also manifested his retrocognitive powers, as he was able to know of War Rock's true character and deeds thanks to his past visions. While he hated this power at first, he gradually came to accept and use it frequently.
  • Warrior Prince: Following his Ascension to (eldritch) godhood and reconciliation with Moon Ray/Tunglið over his (accidental) transformation, he would be crowned as Prince Serenum Agrum Cahaya, then as Prince Sól Leysir Innlausn-Heimdrasil. He still has his combat skills from his time as Moon Ray/Tunglið's first Archangel; it's just his Ascension made him evem more powerful.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: On the giving and receiving ends.
    • According to Sunny Field, he was not happy to learn that Moon Ray impulsively married Crystal Light based on a seemingly precognitive dream he had, and "tore [Moon Ray] a new one" for it.
    • Following Moon Ray's sudden death, Sunny Field proceeded to blame Velvet Heart, at the time his brother's fiancée, out of grief. Predictably, this attracted the ire from many people, including Fret Pick, Moon Ray's bassist and best friend, who pointed out that losing a loved one is not an excuse to mistreat someone. Sadly, because of his stubbornness and anger issues, the chewing-outs don't take until after Sunny Field dies and gets hoofed in the face by an angry Moon Ray, who estranged himself from him for how he treated Velvet Heart.
    • Sunny Field was also not happy with Moon Ray taking Velvet Heart as his wife when she already married someone else, but Moon Ray explained to him that Velvet Heart's first husband was okay with them getting together and gave them his blessing.

Saint Fret Pick, the Reaper of Addiction/Prince Dauðadómur Innlausn-Heimdrasil, the Breaker of Addiction

Classification: Ascendant/Ethereal/Eldritch

Portfolio: Death, Addiction, Punishment, Sin

Rank: Divine (Tier I/Godling; resembles an "Intermediate"-ranked deity)

"Addiction's like a trap; ya never know 'til yer already ensnared. Ah didn't really get it 'til after Moony collapsed." (as Saint Fret Pick)

Prince Dauðadómur Innlausn-Heimdrasil, born Fret Pick (his entry here), is the eldritch Alicorn god of Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin, and is one of Moon Ray Vaughoof/King Tunglið Hreinsar Innlausn-Heimdrasil's closest friends.
  • Abstract Apotheosis: Under Moon Ray's tutelage, he would Ascend to eldritch godhood as the Alicorn god of Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin. It's noted he willingly chose to learn under Moon Ray — despite his friend having transformed into an eldritch god earlier and the risks involved in using the latter's "Spark" — because he doesn't want him to be alone as the only eldritch god in their group.
  • Angelic Transformation: At one point, he decided to become one of Moon Ray/Tunglið's Angels; in his case, he became an Angel of Death like Moon Ray/Tunglið did following his death.
  • Animalistic Abomination:
    • As an Archangel of Death, one of his alternate forms is that of a severely emaciated and diseased Pony corpse with telltale signs of drug addiction such as needle scars, ragged breathing, and rotting teeth, his body constantly emitting fumes and smoke. His six wings in this form are depicted as suffering from neglect, with feathers falling off. His form represents the consequences of drug addiction and what happens when someone chooses not to break free of it.
    • In the Fourth Age, he become an eldritch Alicorn after Ascending using Moon Ray/Tunglið's divine "Spark".
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: He's an eldritch Alicorn god who embodies Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin.
  • Artifact of Attraction: As an Archangel of Death, his primary domain involves Addiction, meaning he can use the 'Want-It-Need-It' spell. This power carried over when he Ascended as an eldritch god of Addiction.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance:
    • His Cutie Mark depicts an electric Bass guitar that's being chained up. It not only refers to him being a bassist, but it also refers to all the bad things that kept him chained up, like his cynicism, his addictions, and his family's history with addiction.
His form represents the consequences of drug addiction and, given his job as a punisher, what happens when someone chooses not to break free of their addiction. It's noted his body does sift at times to represent other addictions, like grief.
  • The Atoner: Despite his mother's loving influence, he still became a drug addict after becoming a professional bass player, and his addiction worsened after befriending Moon Ray/Tunglið and joining Double Trouble. But after witnessing the consequences of Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll in Moon Ray/Tunglið's collapse and hospitalization, he finally realized that his addiction was not only hurting himself, but also his loved ones. He proceeds to get sober, and despite falling back upon Moon Ray/Tunglið's death, he ultimately succeeded in staying clean and even helping others break free of their own addictions, long after his own death.
  • Awful Wedded Life: At one point, he married a Zebra mare, Kumi, despite anti-Zebra racism being rampant at the time. However, it didn't help curb his addictions at all their marriage naturally deteriorated; by his own admission, he "wasn't the nicest husband" overall and he and Kumi argued a lot. After Moon Ray/Tunglið's collapse and hospitalization, he realizes he was a horrible husband and puts in huge efforts to get sober, in the process repairing his marriage. As a result, he and Kumi remained Happily Married for the rest of their lives and perhaps even beyond that.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Besides Death, he embodies Addiction, Punishment, and Sin. However, his domains came from his desire to not only help sinners and addicts repent for their actions, but also punish unrepentant ones by dragging them off to the Hell-Realms to receive their eternal punishment.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While fun-loving and easy-going, he is loyal to his wife and friends, and sympathizes with those who lost a loved one like he did. And like Moon Ray, he has devoted himself to helping people get sober and stay away from drugs; this saw him trying to protect musicians from repeating the same mistakes he himself made. However, he is also a Reaper who specializes in tormenting the wicked, and can get really scary when chasing after them, as shown with Heilung.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Unlike Moon Ray, he has a fun-loving streak and would frequently "pick on" Whipper Snare, according to him. However, he's also a Reaper who deals with the ushering and punishment of wicked souls, and he can get really terrifying when chasing after them. He also despises addicts, especially those who turn others into addicts.
  • Celebrity Power: He's based on Tommy Shannon, Stevie Ray Vaughan's bassist, but unlike his real-life inspiration, he became an Angel of Death postmortem, dragging wicked souls to the Hell-Realms as punishment for their crimes. It would be three Ages later that he Ascends to godhood with Moon Ray/Tunglið's help, but as an eldritch Alicorn.
  • Chain Pain: As an Archangel of Death, he can chains that grow heavy depending on how sinful a soul is. This carried over following his Ascension as an eldritch Alicorn god of Death.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Though dedicated to helping addicts recover, he has a tendency to run himself ragged trying to save everyone, forcing his friends and family to make him rest and take breaks many times.
  • Creepy Good: As an Archangel of Death, he can transform into a skeletal version of himself, as well as a far creepier form where he appears as a severely emaciated and diseased corpse of a Pony who died from drug abuse. Post-Ascension, he becomes an eldritch Alicorn with "evil" domains like Death, Addiction, Sin, and Punishment. Despite this, he genuinely wants to help people repent for their sins and protect them from those who are genuinely wicked.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He has a dark brown mane and tail, he typically wears a dark undershirt underneath a light-colored shirt jacket (though he does wear leather jackets at times), and as an Archangel of Death, he has six black wings. While he specializes in punishing the wicked dead and therefore is not someone to meet after death, he's a pretty mellow stallion who dedicates himself to helping addicts recover and redeeming sinners so they wouldn't be damned upon death.
  • Deity of Human Origin: He was originally a mortal Earth Pony who, after three Ages of working under Moon Ray/Tunglið as an Angel of Death, Ascended to godhood and became the Alicorn god of Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin. However, because he Ascended using his best friend's eldritch "Spark", he ended up becoming an eldritch Alicorn instead.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: In addition to Death, he also embodies Addiction, Punishment, and Sin. However, he's actually similar to Malus Manes, wanting to help others break free from sin and addiction so they could redeem themselves, while dragging the souls of the genuinely wicked down to the Hell-Realms to be punished for their crimes.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: Invoked. After becoming an Angel of Death, he would drag unrepentantly wicked souls off to Malus Manes' Hell-Realms so they could receive their well-deserved punishments. After Ascending to godhood as the eldritch Alicorn god of Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin, he would join the Trimortidae as one of Malus Manes' adoptive sons and continue corralling the wicked at a greater capacity.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite being a drug abuser himself, he was concerned when Moon Ray ingested "enough crack in his system to kill an ordinary Pony" the day he performed "Voodoo Child" at the El Mocambo. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for him to overcome his own drug habits until Moon Ray collapsed and was hospitalized for extensive drug abuse during the 'Live Alive' tour.
  • Family of Choice: He cherishes his mother more than he does the rest of his birth family, considering how most of them, including his birth father, were addicts. The same thing applies to Double Trouble itself, with him treating Moon Ray like a little brother, and Moon Ray's wife Velvet Heart like a little sister. Later on, he would include Malus Manes, who adopted him into the Trimortidae as part of his brood following his eldritch Ascension.
  • The Fatalist: Learning of his birth father and extended paternal family's history with addiction from his mother affected him to the point where he believed he was fated to follow the same pattern — if his paternal family didn't learn from their mistakes, then why should he? It's deconstructed as his cynicism not only led to him enabling Moon Ray's drug addictions, but also alienating his loved ones. Moon Ray's eventual collapse and hospitalization forced him to realize that his family history still doesn't justify his actions and that he still nearly let his best friend die because he didn't act, despite knowing deep down what they wer doing was wrong. He decides to break the cycle and get sober, even apologizing to Moon Ray for enabling him (and vice-versa), but his entry notes he can still get pessimistic at times, especially after becoming an Angel of Death who specializes in punishing the wicked dead.
  • Fedora of Asskicking: He generally wears a fedora as his Signature Headgear, though he also wears a pageboy hat at times. He's also a powerful Archangel of Death, and he later becomes an eldritch god of Death well into the Fourth Age with Moon Ray/Tunglið's help.
  • Freudian Excuse: Deconstructed. According to him, the reason why he never bothered getting sober despite numerous arrests and rehab attempts is because he saw no point in changing when so many of his family, including his birth father, were addicts. His attitude at the time not only affected his personal life, but also partially influenced Moon Ray to become a drug addict until he collapsed and was hospitalized for drug abuse. Nearly losing his best friend forced him to realize that his addictions were harming everyone around him, so he worked on getting sober for real, breaking his family's cycle of addiction. He would spend the rest of his life helping people overcome their own addictions, and following his death, he would help drag the souls of wicked addicts to various Hell-Realms so they could be punished.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Following Moon Ray/Tunglið's collapse and hospitalization for extensive drug abuse, he realizes that he can't keep using his family's history to justify his own addictions forever, so he worked on getting sober for both his and everyone else's sake.
  • Functional Addict: Deconstructed. Despite his drug addictions, he was still able to perform in Double Trouble as its bassist, but eventually the consequences of his Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll lifestyle caught up with him, causing his health and marriage to his wife Kumi to deteriorate. He and his friends also drove themselves deep into debt because of their own addiction. After his friend Moon Ray collapsed and was hospitalized for drug addiction, he had a Jerkass Realization and worked on getting sober for both his own and everyone else's sakes.
  • God of Evil: Subverted. Like Malus Manes, he embodies "evil" concepts like Addiction and Sin, but he actually uses his domains to help people redeem themselves and break the cycle, while dragging genuinely wicked/unrepentant souls to the Hell-Realms to punish them for their crimes. This is emphasized in his domain of Punishment — specifically, the eternal punishment that awaits wicked souls after death.
  • God of the Dead: After training for many years under Moon Ray/Tunglið's wing, he eventually Ascends as a god of Death, though he specializes in dragging wicked souls to the Hell-Realms and punishing them for their crimes. While he's someone no one wants to meet after death, he's a genuinely benevolent stallion who'd rather see addicts and sinners redeemed than punished, but acknowledges that the wicked need to be stopped from hurting the innocent. Following his Ascension, he would become a joint-member of the Iustitian Pantheon as one of its Death gods, desiring to both help punish wicked and redeem the repentant for the purpose of true justice.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: After becoming an Angel of Death, he gained black wings, and being promoted to Archangel gave him a total of six. However, Dark Is Not Evil, as he's a benevolent Reaper who desires to redeem sinners and only punishes the wicked to keep them from hurting everyone else.
  • Guilt Complex: While not as bad as Sunny Field in this regard, he also tends to be hard on himself for both real and perceived mistakes. He seriously regrets how he treated his own friends and family while under the influence of drugs, including his own wife, Kumi, and after Moon Ray died, he blamed himself to the point of becoming an alcoholic despite having been someplace else when it happened. He was not happy to discover Moon Ray's death was partially due to his own impulsiveness and called him out on it, but they eventually reconciled and Moon Ray would help him overcome his guilt.
  • Happily Adopted: After Ascending to godhood and becoming an eldritch god of Death, he would be adopted by Malus Manes, whom he has a better relationship with in contrast with most of his biological family, many who were addicts in life.
  • Happily Married: His marriage with his wife Kumi, initially an Awful Wedded Life due to his drug addictions affecting his behavior, improved once he got sober and treated her more kindly. He deeply loves and cherishes Kumi, and has been doing everything he could to make up for his previous mistreatment of her. In the Fourth Age, he would live with Kumi in Kerajaan Cahaya after her soul was transferred to the kingdom's local Heaven-Realms (with the Three Deaths' permission).
  • Hates Their Parent: He loves his mother dearly and the same applies to his adoptive father, Malus Manes, but his relationships with his birth father and extended relatives are next to nil. This is because many of them were addicts who refused to repent for their sins. After becoming an Angel of Death, he started tormenting some of his deceased family members in the Hell-Realms to punish them for their addictions in life.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: While he usually wears a light-colored shirt jacket over a dark undershirt, he has worn leather jackets at times.
  • Heroic BSoD: He was devastated when he learned from his mother the truth of his absentee birth father and his extended paternal relatives during his early attempts at rehab. Knowing much of his paternal family became addicts without repenting turned him into The Fatalist, making him apathetic to the harm of Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll lifestyle despite knowing what he was doing was wrong. He snaps out of it after Moon Ray, one of his friends, nearly dies from drug abuse, forcing him to realize that regardless of his family history, his choices are still his own and nothing could justify them. He makes efforts in getting sober and improving himself as a stallion, even apologizing to Moon Ray for his Toxic Friend Influence, which led to his relationships with his loved ones improving overall.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: He's Moon Ray's best friend, and they're close enough that he treats Moon Ray like a little brother. When Moon Ray decided to marry Velvet Heart in the Third Age, he served as Moon Ray's "best stallion". And well into the Fourth Age, he chose to learn how to Ascend under Moon Ray's tutelage despite the latter having re-Ascended by then and knowing the risks and consequences of using his friend's eldritch "Spark", because he didn't want Moon Ray to be alone in his situation.
  • Holy Halo: After becoming an Angel of Death, he gained a halo.
  • Iconic Outfit: He usually wears a light-colored undershirt over a dark undershirt, with his hat being a fedora, though it's noted he has worn a pageboy and leather jackets at times.
  • Incoming Ham: Much like his adoptive father, Malus Manes, he will announce himself in a loud and terrifying manner whenever he appears to usher the souls of the wicked. This is best shown when he helps the local Reapers of Angel Vale bring in Heilung's wicked soul after the defeat of Honeyguide and the restoration of both Ashfall and Angel Vale to the material planes.
Fret Pick: Heilung! Ah'm Fret Pick, the Reaper o' wicked souls, an' Ah hath come fer thee! In the words o' mah Pa... (transforms into the corpse of a Dragon/Dracosaur that died from various ailments) ARE YA READY?!
  • Instrument of Murder: His electric bass guitar, In Step, is this. Not only is it a bass-scythe hybrid, but it can also be used as a medium for certain spells as well as a bludgeoning weapon by itself.
  • Interspecies Romance: Sometime after Double Trouble's rise to fame, he got married to a Zebra mare, Kumi, despite rampant Fantastic Racism against Zebras at the time. At first, their marriage was an Awful Wedded Life due to him being a drug addict at the time, but once he got sober, their marriage turned into a happy one.
  • Jerkass Realization: While he went to rehab many times for his drug addiction, it's not until Moon Ray/Tunglið's collapse and hospitalization for extensive drug abuse that he finally realizes the harm he was inflicting on himself and others with his addiction, and genuinely starts shaping himself up for both his and everyone's sakes. This includes his treatment of his wife, Kumi, who previously suffered from an Awful Wedded Life due to his addictions; once he becomes sober, he treats Kumi more kindly and stays completely away from drugs for her sake.
  • Large Ham: Like his adoptive father, Malus Manes, he often acts loud and terrifying to let wicked souls know that they were in for a bad time. This is best shown when he confronts Heilung's soul following the end of the "Angel Vale Retcons", as the Gold Dragon's crimes were more than enough to warrant eternal punishment in the Hell-Realms.
  • Like Brother and Sister: He treats Velvet Heart, the fiancée and later wife of his friend Moon Ray, like his own sister. As mortals, he defended Velvet Heart from Sunny Field, and stayed good friends with her even after retiring from music in his old age. When Velvet Heart and Moon Ray got married postmortem, he attended the wedding as Moon Ray's best stallion.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: His father was an addict, and so were his extended paternal relatives and ancestors. While he became an addict himself, he eventually succeeded in breaking the cycle thanks to love and support from those who cared for him, as well as seeing one of his best friends, Moon Ray/Tunglið, nearly die from drug abuse. He also became Happily Married to his wife, Kumi, after getting sober, whereas his father divorced his mother because she recognized the toxic influence he would have on their son. Postmortem, he went even further to become an Angel of Death (and later, a god of Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin) who specialized in not only helping addicts recover from their addictions, but also dragging unrepentant addicts to the Hell-Realms as punishment for their crimes.
  • Love Redeems: What ultimately got him to go through rehab and become sober for real was his friendship with Moon Ray — when Moon Ray collapsed and was hospitalized for extensive drug abuse, he realized he could very well lose his best friend for real if they continued their hedonistic lifestyle, and forced himself to change for Moon Ray's sake. This also led to him improving his marriage with his Zebra wife, Kumi, who suffered as a result of his addictions.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Fret Pick is an appropriate name for someone who became a professional bass player as an adult.
    • After Ascending to godhood with Moon Ray/Tunglið's help, he would be crowned as Prince Proclivitas Cahaya — Proclivitas translating to "addiction" in Latin to refer to his Addiction domain and desire to punish unrepentant addicts, and Cahaya referring to Kerajaan Cahaya, the kingdom he watches over alongside his friends.
    • After moving into Heimdrasil and creating the realm Innlausn from the Shadowed Ones' abandoned tenth realm, he gains a second Alicorn name, Dauðadómur. Dauðadómur translates to "death's judgement/verdict" in Icelandic, which is fitting since his job is to ferry wicked souls to their rightful punishments and he is an adoptive son of Malus Manes, who does the same thing.
  • Meaningful Rename:
    • His birth name was Fret Pick, but after Ascending to godhood, he was crowned as Prince Proclivitas Cahaya. Proclivitas translates to "addiction" in Latin to refer to both his Addiction domain and desire to punish unrepentant addicts, while Cahaya refers to Kerajaan Cahaya, the kingdom he watches over alongside his friends.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Like Moon Ray's Pride and Joy, his main weapon is a bass-scythe hybrid called In Step.
  • Momma's Boy: Like Moon Ray/Tunglið, he's closer to his mother than his birth father, though in his case it's because she did everything to ensure he would not become an addict like the rest of his family.
  • Morality-Guided Attack: As an Archangel of Death, he can summon chains that grow heavy depending on how sinful a soul is, and the ability to weaponize one’s own sins. This carried over following his Ascension as an eldritch Alicorn god of Death.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Moon Ray's collapse and hospitalization for drug abuse during the "Live Alive" tour forced him to realize that he nearly let his best friend die by enabling Moon Ray and treating their addictions as inevitable — a feeling that further sank in when he learned Moon Ray's Dark and Troubled Past with his drunkard father. And by getting addicted drugs, he alienating everyone else who genuinely loved him, such as his mother and his wife, Kumi. During rehab, he would apologize to Moon Ray for being a Toxic Friend Influence (and vice-versa) and make efforts in getting completely sober.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: He's based on Tommy Shannon, Stevie Ray Vaughan's bassist in Double Trouble. Much like Tommy Shannon, he was a bass player for Moon Ray's band, Double Trouble, but was plagued with drug addiction for years and enabled Moon Ray's own addictions until the latter collapsed and was hospitalized. This forced him to realize he couldn't continue being a drug addict any longer and he got sober, only to lose Moon Ray to a helicopter crash a few years later. After a period of mourning, he continued performing for many years, but due to different choices and circumstances, his life ended up taking a different turn — in addition to becoming The Sponsor and Mentor Archetype for many musicians in his day, he ended up becoming an Angel of Death and, later, an eldritch Alicorn god of Death postmortem.
  • Off the Wagon: Moon Ray/Tunglið's death in a helicopter accident nearly drove him back to addiction out of grief, made even worse by the fact that he lost his best friend just a few years after getting sober himself. Fortunately, he was saved by Bossa Nova, who had a vision of him drinking himself to death, allowing his friends and loved ones to intervene and help him cope with his grief in healthier ways.
  • Patron Saint: As indicated by his title of "Saint", despite being a punisher of the wicked, he is paradoxically worshiped in Kerajaan Cahaya as a patron Saint of addicts, since people trust him to help them break free of addiction and get them away from toxic individuals. He admits to feeling a little embarrassed by the worship, but otherwise uses the opportunity to help others at a greater capacity.
  • Personality Powers: His domains of Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin reflects his desire to punish unrepentantly wicked addicts (and other sinful people) for their crimes, while redeeming those who are genuinely repentant.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Downplayed. While he's Happily Married to a Zebra mare despite racism in Ponyland being rampant at the time, he had trouble understanding Moon Ray's asexuality when he first learned of it. He came to accept it with time, however.
  • Psychopomp: After dying of old age, he chose to become an Angel of Death like Moon Ray/Tunglið did before him, except in his case he desired to punish those who refused to repent for their addictions and dragged innocent people into them. He would later Ascend to godhood with Moon Ray/Tunglið's help, becoming a God of the Dead like his best friend.
  • Recovered Addict: Despite his mother trying to ensure he didn't become an addict like the rest of his biological family, he got addicted to cocaine after becoming a professional bass player, which would plague him for several years and affect his relationships with others. It's not until Moon Ray/Tunglið's collapse and hospitalization for drug abuse that he realizes he must shape himself up for real, lest he lose one of his closest friends. He eventually succeeded, and while he nearly fell Off the Wagon following Moon Ray/Tunglið's death in a helicopter crash, he was able to stay sober with love and support. After dying of old age, he chose to work under Moon Ray/Tunglið as an Angel of Death who punished sinners and addicts, and later on he became a god of Death, Addiction, Punishment, and Sin so he could perform his duties at a greater capacity.
  • Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll: Deconstructed. He had a history of drug-related activity in his early years, and though he attended rehab for it many times, it didn't take partially due to him believing there's no point if all his family did was become addicts. It's not until he became a member of Double Trouble that things spiraled out of control; at one point, even he was concerned with Moon Ray's own drug abuse and admitted to "watching him like a hawk" when Moon Ray ingested a lot of drugs the day he performed "Voodoo Child" at the El Mocambo. He was also subjected to distrust from Sunny Field Vaughoof, Moon Ray's older brother, for how he became a toxic influence for Moon Ray. It took Moon Ray collapsing and being hospitalized for drug abuse for him to shape himself up and become sober for real.
  • A Shared Suffering: He befriended a then-mortal Tranquil Dream, who was Velvet Heart's first husband at the time, over growing up with an absentee father and having a Freudian Excuse stemming from that.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: During formal occasions, he wears a suit.
  • Sinister Scythe: Subverted. Despite owning a bass-scythe hybrid called In Step, he's a benevolent Archangel of Death (and later, an eldritch Alicorn god of Death).
  • The Sponsor: While hit very hard by Moon Ray's sudden death, he ultimately decided to follow his best friend's example by helping people break free of their own addictions, which he would do for the rest of his life and beyond.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: As an Archangel of Death, he can summon weapons. This carried over following his Ascension as an eldritch Alicorn god of Death.
  • Stop Worshipping Me: Downplayed. Unlike Moon Ray, who initially didn't want to be worshiped period, he let people worship him despite his own embarrassment because he saw it as an opportunity to help others at a greater capacity.
  • Super-Scream: As an Archangel of Death, he can unleash sonic screams that inflict status ailments. This carried over following his Ascension as an eldritch Alicorn god of Death.
  • Took A Level In Cynicism: After learning the truth of his paternal family from his mother, he started believing that it's no use trying to break the cycle if all his father and paternal relatives did was get themselves killed with addiction. He continued his own drug addictions, alienating everyone close to him, until one of his friends, Moon Ray, collapsed and was hospitalized for extensive drug abuse during the Live Alive tour. This forces him to realize he's part of the reason why Moon Ray nearly died, and that he can't use his paternal family to justify his actions anymore. While he has cleaned up his act and stayed sober since, he still does get cynical at times.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He started abusing drugs once he became a professional musician, and after learning the truth of his paternal family from his mother, he became quite cynical and apathetic to the point where he enabled Moon Ray's addictions. During his early years of marriage to his wife Kumi, he was a terrible husband (something he admitted to) and frequently argued with her. He eventually snaps out of it when his friend Moon Ray nearly dies of drug abuse, forcing him to realize he himself was part of the problem and clean up his act for Moon Ray's sake.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Once he realizes the harm he was inflicting on both himself and others with his addictions and attitude, he cleans up his act and gets sober. He apologized to Moon Ray for enabling his vices, treated his wife Kumi much better, and became a kinder stallion overall. He also became a mentor figure for younger musicians, protecting them from toxic behaviors and people when before he would've left them to their devices, and later a divine punisher who went after the wicked dead so the innocent would be protected from them.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Deconstructed. While he and Moon Ray became very close friends, he also enabled Moon Ray's bad habits and vice-versa. This not only led to Sunny Field/Sól distrusting him for being a bad influence on his brother, but also Moon Ray's eventual collapse and hospitalization for drug abuse. Nearly losing his best friend forced him to realize he needed to shape up lest he and others suffer fatal consequences, and he proceeded to put huge efforts in getting sober. He would also share a mutual apology with Moon Ray for enabling each other and reconcile.
  • Turn Out Like His Father: His mother tried to prevent him from falling into his family's cycle of addiction by, in his words, "raisin' [him] right n' proper". She even withheld the truth of his father from him so he wouldn't end up following in his father's hoofsteps. Unfortunately, he still got addicted to cocaine (which he called "crack") after becoming a professional bass player and entering Lonestar's music scene, with frequent arrests and failed rehab attempts. When his mother revealed the truth out of concern, he only became convinced that he's destined to repeat the cycle of addiction, abuse, and death. It's not until one of his best friends, Moon Ray, collapsed during a tour and was hospitalized for drug abuse that he finally realized what his mother was trying to prevent and decided to shape up for real.
  • Undying Loyalty: A realistic example. He's one of Moon Ray/Tunglið's best friends and closest supporters, but he won't hesitate to call him out on his mistakes. This stems from how he was once a Toxic Friend Influence who in part caused Moon Ray/Tunglið's drug addictions to spiral out of control, leading to the latter's hospitalization.
  • Upbringing Makes the Hero: Double-subverted. Despite having a good mother who raised him well and kept him away from his dysfunctional, addicted family, he still fell into the same trap of addiction once he became a bassist and entered Lonestar's music scene. Ultimately, though, it's his good upbringing, combined with associating with certain people he genuinely cared for, that pushed him to break the cycle and stay completely sober.
  • Unpleasant Parent Reveal: For years, his mother kept the truth of his Disappeared Dad, fearing he'll Turn Out Like His Father if he knew, and tried to raise him "right n' proper". When he still got arrested and put in rehab many times for drug abuse, his mother decides to tell the truth in hopes it'll make him shape up. It doesn't at first, as knowing his father and much of his extended paternal relatives were addicts of some sort turned him into The Fatalist, apathetic to how his Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll affected others despite knowing deep down that it was wrong. It's not until his best friend, Moon Ray, nearly dies from drug abuse that he finally takes his mother's lesson to heart and gets sober for real.
  • Vader Breath: When appearing as the corpse of someone who died from drug addiction, one trait he displays is ragged breathing. It adds to his terrifying image, but fortunately he's quite nice and doesn't want to see people be damned to hell.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: This is his relationship with Whipper Snare; according to him, he and Whipper Snare would "pick on each other an' write songs 'bout each other like ya wouldn’t believe". Despite this, they're very close friends.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • He was absolutely disgusted with how Sunny Field/Sól treated Velvet Heart following Moon Ray's death, and proceeded to point out that just because Sunny Field/Sól is grieving the loss of his younger brother doesn't mean being a Jerkass to people is okay.
Fret Pick: Look, Fields, Ah know what you're goin' through. Moony's death hurt me, too. Hurt all of us. But it still ain't a good excuse for you ta treat 'is girlfriend like shit!
    • After dying of old age, he would reunite with Moon Ray and become one of his closest supporters. However, having experienced for himself the consequences of toxic enablement, he would call out Moon Ray whenever he made mistakes and help him learn from them. Notably, he would help his friend atone for his actions during the "Cosmic Prophet Debacle", despite knowing the entire event was a complete accident.
  • White Sheep: Besides his mother, he's the only one in his family to not only break free of the cycle of addiction, but also stay completely sober long after the fact.
  • Winged Unicorn: He would Ascend as an Alicorn well into the Fourth Age, but because he used Moon Ray/Tunglið's eldritch "Spark" to Ascend, he ended up becoming an eldritch Alicorn like his best friend did before him.
  • You Are Not Alone: Partly why he chose to Ascend using Moon Ray/Tunglið's eldritch "Spark" despite knowing he himself will turn into an eldritch god as a consequence — he wanted to ensure that Moon Ray/Tunglið and Sunny Field/Sól don't feel alone as the only eldritch gods in the group.

Saint Whipper Snare, the Reaper of Guilt/Prince Sekt Hjarta Innlausn-Heimdrasil, the Last-Second Chance

Classification: Ascendant/Ethereal/Eldritch

Portfolio: Death, Second Chances, Guilt, Purgatory

Rank: Divine (Tier I/Godling; resembles an "Intermediate"-ranked deity)

"Guilt can either be a balm or a plague on your soul, depending on how you treat it."

Prince Sekt Hjarta Innlausn-Heimdrasil, born Whipper Snare (his entry here), is the eldritch Alicorn god of Death, Second Chances, Guilt, and Purgatory, and is another one of Moon Ray/Tunglið's friends.
  • '80s Hair: His mane is described as being short and resembling a mullet.
  • Abstract Apotheosis: Like his fellow Redeeming Six, he Ascended to godhood under Moon Ray's tutelage, becoming the Alicorn god of Death, Second Chances, Guilt, and Purgatory. However, because he used Moon Ray's eldritch "Spark" to Ascend, he became an eldritch god, too.
  • Angelic Abomination: As an Archangel of Death empowered by a Trimortidae member who embodied Guilt, his alternate eldritch form is similar to Velvet Heart's, being a Pony-like entity with mirror-like properties that reflect people's guilt.
  • Angelic Transformation: Like Moon Ray and Fret Pick, he became an Angel of Death, but in his case, he was specifically empowered by a Trimortidae member who worked in the Purgatory-Realms. After three Ages, he became an Archangel of Death.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: He's an eldritch Alicorn god who embodies Death, Second Chances, Guilt, and Purgatory.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: It's implied that, going by his domains, he's a god who specializes in redeeming repentant souls by helping them acknowledge their guilt so they could atone for misdeeds and earn a second chance postmortem. However, like Fret Pick, he was an Archangel of Death before Ascending, and he's presently an eldritch god who is much more powerful than his chronological age suggests.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Due to being an introvert, he's naturally shy and quiet, but also intelligent and introspective. Not only does he know karate (initially making him the only one of the Redeeming Six who's experienced in physical combat), but he also spent much of his postmortem life as an Archangel of Death, which made him very powerful. After training under Moon Ray, he Ascended to godhood as the eldritch Alicorn god of Death, Second Chances, Guilt, and Purgatory; due to using Moon Ray's eldritch "Spark", he physically aged until he became a "Tier III"-ranked god, despite being chronologically an infant divine. He also hates those who bully or emotionally abuse others, and refuse to own up to their mistakes.
  • Calling the Young Man Out: He gets called out by his horrified parents when they learned he started taking drugs since leaving home thanks to Moon Ray and Fret Pick's bad influence. This contributed to his initial choice to leave Double Trouble, but decided to stay in the band when he saw Moon Ray depressed after escaping his Awful Wedded Life.
  • Celibate Hero: While asexual like his friend Moon Ray, he is also aromantic as he always felt disinterested in forming romantic relationships.
  • Child Hater: Downplayed; he admits to feeling uneasy around children because they often make him feel overwhelmed. That said, he hasn't let it stop him from being a Cool Uncle to his friends' children, whether biological or adoptive.
  • Close to Home: He naturally despises bullies due to being tormented for being shy and quiet as a colt. He also hates those who take their friendships for granted, refuse to acknowledge their own mistakes, and use guilt as a form of emotional abuse.
  • Confirmed Bachelor: He is both asexual and aromantic, having always been disinterested in forming romantic relationships. This sets him apart from Moon Ray, who is also asexual but married twice and is both open and willing to have sex with his partners.
  • Cool Uncle: Despite admitting to feeling uneasy around children, he still is a genuinely loving uncle-figure for the other Redeeming Six's biological/adoptive children.
  • Dem Bones: Like all Reapers and Death deities, he can turn into a skeletal version of himself.
  • The Empath: He has empathic powers thanks to Moon Ray teaching him. He also has empathy as an Archangel of Guilt, being able to sense and encourage guilt in others.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: At one point, he ate Moon Ray's "Blazing Inferno Hellfire Lasagna" dish, which was so spicy that he literally breathed fire while his mouth was left burning for days. This hilariously led to him fearing Moon Ray's cooking in general.
    Whipper Snare: AIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
  • God of the Dead: Like Fret Pick, he Ascends as an eldritch god of Death after training for many years under Moon Ray/Tunglið's wing. As his domains of Second Chances, Guilt, and Purgatory imply, he is a Death god who specializes in creating afterlife realms to hold repentant souls and help them atone for their sins so they could be moved to the Heaven-Realms.
  • Happily Adopted: He ends up being adopted by Malus Manes, becoming a part of his branch of the Trimortidae. While he has accepted Malus Manes as a father-figure, he never forgot his birth parents and visited them often.
  • Honorary Uncle: He is an uncle-figure to his friends' biological and adoptive children, who he treats with love and care despite admitting to being uneasy around children in general.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Like Rongoa, he tried killing himself after the pain and guilt over Moon Ray's death became too much. Fortunately, Fret Pick and Key Tap stopped him thanks to Bossa Nova Heartstrings' guidance, with Fret Pick calling him out for deciding to commit suicide while everyone was still grieving the loss of Moon Ray.
  • The Magnificent: As an Archangel of Death, he was known as "the Reaper of Guilt", due to his domain being Guilt. After Ascending to godhood, his title became "the Last-Second Chance" due to embodying Second Chances as a concept.
  • Master of Illusion: He can create light-based illusions that appear as people's greatest regrets.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His birth name is Whipper Snare. A snare is a type of drum, while Whipper is the nickname of Chris Layton, Double Trouble's drummer whom Whipper Snare is based on.
    • His first Alicorn name, Purgatorium, translates to "purgatory" in Latin. Purgatory realms in the Codexverse are afterlife realms where repentant souls go to atone for their sins; as an eldritch god of Death, Second Chances, Guilt, and Purgatory, he specializes in taking repentant souls to Purgatory-Realms and helping them see the error of their ways so they can repent and either be moved to the Heaven-Realms, or be granted a second chance at life via Reincarnation.
    • His second Alicorn name, Sekt Hjarta, translates to "guilty heart" in Icelandic. He is a Death god who embodies the concept of guilt and earning redemption in death — namely, the Purgatory-Realms where repentant souls are taken so they can atone for grave sins.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: He's based on Chris Layton, Stevie Ray Vaughan's drummer in Double Trouble. Even his name, Whipper Snare, is based on Chris's nickname, "Whipper".
  • The Prankster: While generally shy and reserved, he does like playing pranks — particularly on his friend, Fret Pick. The feeling is mutual.
  • Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll: Deconstructed. Like Fret Pick and Moon Ray, he, too, became a drug addict, with bad consequences for himself and everyone else. It took Moon Ray's collapse and hospitalization for him to realize what he's doing and work on getting sober.
  • Suicide is Shameful: Averted. While Fret Pick chews him out for attempting suicide, it was more due to him trying to end his own life while he and his friends were still dealing with the pain of Moon Ray's death, rather than the suicide itself.
  • Telepathy: He has telepathic powers thanks to Moon Ray teaching him. He also has empathy as an Archangel of Guilt, being able to sense and encourage guilt in others.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: This is his relationship with Fret Pick; according to Fret Pick, they would "pick on each other an' write songs 'bout each other like ya wouldn't believe". Despite this, they're very close friends.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Both on the receiving and giving ends.
    • After his suicide attempt is interrupted by Fret Pick and Key Tap, Whipper is called out by Fret Pick, who was still reeling from Moon Ray's death and didn't want to lose another friend.
Fret Pick: (tearfully) Ah didn't lose a friend an' nearly drink mahself ta death, jus' so Ah could lose another!
    • Following the "Applewood Rescue" event, Whipper would call out Moon Ray for his actions. However, while acknowledging his friend did "terrible" things, Whipper makes it clear that he won't keep hanging Moon Ray's actions over his head, only desiring to help him become a good Pony again.
Moon Ray Vaughoof: ...Y'all gonna hang this over mah head like some sorta punishment fer meh?
Whipper Snare: No, that's Crystal's way. She knew your mistakes, and yet she chose to be a flankhole. (sighs) Look, Moony... what you did... It was terrible. But we're not gonna keep bringing it up like you're forever bad or something. We know you're a good Pony. We all saw it. And we're gonna help you through this.
  • You Are Not Alone: Following Moon Ray's death, he reaches out to Velvet Heart and assures her that he and the rest of Double Trouble will be there for her if she needed them.
Whipper Snare: If you need anything, just let us know, okay? We're all here for you.

Saint Key Tap, the Archangel of Growth/Prince Vöxtur Innlausn-Heimdrasil, the Prince of Growth

Classification: Ascendant/Ethereal/Eldritch

Portfolio: Growth, Responsibility, Action

Rank: Divine (Tier I/Godling; resembles an "Intermediate"-ranked deity)

"If we don't learn from our mistakes, how can we grow?"

Prince Vöxtur Innlausn-Heimdrasil, born Key Tap (his entry here), is the eldritch Alicorn god of Growth, Responsibility, and Action, and is another one of Moon Ray/Tunglið's friends.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: He's an eldritch Alicorn god who embodies Growth, Responsibility, and Action.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • His birth name is Key Tap, a fitting name for a piano player and keyboardist.
    • His first Alicorn name, Actio, translates to "action" in Latin, and he is a god of Growth who wants to help people grow by making them take responsibility for their mistakes and learn from them.
    • His second Alicorn name, Vöxtur, translates to "growth" in Icelandic, which is pretty much what he embodies and what he wants people to do.
  • Meaningful Rename: His birth name is Key Tap, but over time, he gained two Alicorn names:
    • His first Alicorn name, Actio Cahaya, translates to "action" in Latin, and he is a god of Growth who wants to help people grow by making them take responsibility for their mistakes and learn from them.
    • His second Alicorn name, Vöxtur Innlausn-Heimdrasil, translates to "growth" in Icelandic, which is pretty much what he embodies and what he wants people to do.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: He's based on Reese Wynans, Stevie Ray Vaughan's keyboardist in Double Trouble.
  • Personality Powers: Following his Ascension, he came to embody Growth, Responsibility, and Action. He specializes in helping people grow by making them acknowledge and take responsibility for their own actions, which stems from watching his bandmates in Double Trouble ruin themselves with their constant drug abuse when they were mortals.
  • Token Good Teammate: He was the only musician in Double Trouble who didn't become a drug addict. When he saw the extent of how Fret Pick, Moon Ray, and Whipper Snare were ruining themselves, he was horrified. Fortunately, the three later cleaned up their acts and got sober, though it took Moon Ray nearly dying from drug abuse to provide that push.
