Here are the works referencing Rurouni Kenshin.
Anime & Manga
- Genshiken Nidaime: In Chapter 105 of Genshiken Nidaime, Susanna "Sue" Hopkins does the "Gatotsu" stance with a rolled-up poster on Madarame while admitting she doesn't know whether she likes him or not. However, the attack she does from the Gatotsu stance when Madarame rejects the idea of dating Hato because Hato doesn't have boobs was Kenshin's/Hiko's "Kuzu Ryu Sen" instead.
- Gintama: The series can be counted as a whole Denser and Wackier reference to Kenshin. Not surprising, given that Kenshin is one of Sorachi's primary inspiration in writing the manga.
- In the Beam Sword Style arc Sougo, now a ronin, is dressed very similarly to Kenshin, lampshaded by Gintoki.
- During the Soul Switch arc, Shinpachi, Kagura, and a bunch others became like Saito Hajime from Rurouni Kenshin, complete with strict hairstyle and his signature style/attack, the Gatotsu, due to Hijikata's efforts to become stricter with the Yorozuya.
- After Katsura knocks down multiple policemen with a butterfly net and finishes the last one off by whacking him with a sword, he claims that he "only used the back of the sword". This undoubtedly references Kenshin's sakabatou and non-killilng vow.
Comic Books
- Chronin: In the Chronin graphic novels, a large part of why main character Mirai Yoshida (a Japanese-American graduate student from the not too distant future), became interested in Japanese history and wound up participating in the fledging Time Travel program is because of her love of reading manga set in historical settings.
- The main one specifically mentioned being a lawyer friendly pastiche of RuroKen, titled "Ronin Ken". The way Mirai describes it this version of Kenshin may have been more for the Shōjo Demographic, as she says that while it has a few fights it's mostly focused on romance.
Tabletop Games
- Fellowship: Guile's fighting strategy: no defensive skills except relying on inborn stamina and sheer determination is based on Sanosuke's fighting style.
Videogames
- Samurai Shodown: In light of all the shout-outs author Nobuhiro Watsuki gave to SNK Fighting Game Samurai Shodown, it's only appropriate that they give a shout-out back in the form of Samurai Shodown V's Yoshitora Tokugawa. He's a shout-out to Sword Hunter Chou Sawagejo and his silly broom hair.
- The Last Blade: Many of the characters from Last Blade franchise were modeled after RuroKen characters, with it also being set during the Bakumatsu.
- Moriya Minakata is Kenshin with Aoshi's personality. He has roughly the same Spawn cape as Kenshin's master Hiko too.
- Kaede is reminiscent of Kenshin in that he has a Split Personality: A gentler, earnest "mortal" side and a red-eyed super-powered "godly" side.
- Yuki is reminiscent of Kaoru as a tomboy martial artist mixed with Sanosuke's use of a lance-like weapon. She's also like Tomoe because of her ice queen motif.
- Hyo Amano is based on minor one-shot villain Hitokiri Gasuke and his Elvis hair, but Hyo's a more charming version of him.
- Zantetsu has more of Jin-e's visual design and apparrel.
- Shigen Naoe is an improved version of Raijuta, with his daughter Kotetsu serving as his Yutaro.
- Keiichiro Washizuka is RuroKen's version of Saitou with Kenshin's cross scar.
- Kojiro/Kaori Sanada is based on Souji Okita and his sister Mitsu as well as Kaoru Kamiya's visual design or even Kamatari Honjo's crossdressing (but it's female to male instead of male to female).
- Akari Ichijou is Misao but as an onmyouji.
- Genbu no Okina is a mix between Oibore (visual design) and Okina (name-wise).
- Shikyoh/Mukuro is Shishio with a bit of Jin-e's backstory on the side.
- Shinnosuke Kagami also uses a Flaming Sword like Shishio but is a pretty boy in a trenchcoat like Aoshi.
- Hibiki Takane is a female Soujiro Seta mixed with Tsubame's personality.
- Setsuna is Enishi Yukishiro.
- Guilty Gear: Baiken is practically just Kenshin in sprite formnote except for the fact that she's female instead of male. It's because the character designer mistook Kenshin for a girl. Her later iterations evolved to become more voluptuous.
- Fate/Grand Order: Okita Souji uses a right handed variation of Saito Hajime's Gatotsu attack. This became a meme when Saito Hajime himself shows up as a Servant and doesn't use the Gatotsu, leading fans to joke that Okita stole it.
Webcomics
- Aqua Regia: It's pretty much spelled outright in the seventh chapter as a brief rundown of the events that lead it to Kenshin getting his scar... While Daniel gets tortured and has his face scarred.
Western Animation
- Steven Universe: When Lonely Blade performs the Boomerang Blade, he's shouting "Kaiten Kenbu!", which is a move from Kenshin.
