    Dominic Noble (a.k.a The Dom)
Dom Smith's review persona

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Much to The Dom's chagrin, Calluna turns down his advances so she can date Terrence the Douchebag instead.
  • Badass Bookworm: Fought off an unseen army of Watchmen fanboys. And, later, an army of Snape fangirls. Also fought Terrence, a fully grown wizard who had previously fought in a major battle, to a draw with just his wits and modern weapons.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: The first Harry Potter film created the "impossible-to-please" adaptation critic that he is today.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: His attempts to hit on Calluna in their The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey crossover review seem to fly over her head, and the episode ends with her going on a date with Terrence instead.
  • Fan Boy: Was one for the Harry Potter book series and is a huge fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld. He claimed he learned to read just for them.
  • The Grinch: Not the biggest fan of the Christmas season. Downplayed over the years as he decided that the overt negativity was unnecessarily jerkish to people who just wanted to harmlessly enjoy the season.
  • Magic Versus Science: Often finds himself battling supernaturals (including, but not limited to, Terrence), and always uses conventional weaponry (guns, tanks, flamethrowers, and the like).
  • Mean Boss: Could be nicer to Reginald.
  • Nerd Glasses: At least until Terrance fixed his vision (in real life, he had gotten Lasik).
  • Spell My Name with a "The": For the first few years of the show. As of 2019, he's changed his online handle to Dominic Noble.
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: Whenever he sets out to kill something (The Other Mother, Terrence the Douchebag...), expect bombs, More Dakka, flamethrowers, and/or a freaking tank (which had always been there).
  • Trigger-Happy: Doesn't take much to set him off, literally and figuratively.

    Reginald
The Dom's hunchbacked assistant

  • Beleaguered Assistant: The Dom often runs him ragged.
  • Clone Degeneration: Thanks to this, he isn't smart enough to figure out how to operate the cloning machine that created him to make a replacement for himself so he could sneak off to pursue his life's dream elsewhere (like every other clone that came before him).
  • The Igor: Plays it straight being a hunchbacked henchman.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Or rather, "too dumb to escape his job." Couldn't figure out how to operate the cloning machine to create a replacement for himself because the bright green and red "On/Off" switch was too complicated for him to understand. So, he's stuck working for The Dom.

    Terrence the Douchebag from Ravenclaw
Terrence Bellerophon Boot, a wizard who graduated from Hogwarts but still wears his school robes with pride (despite being in his thirties). Confirmed to be Terry Boot.

  • The Artifact: A self-admitted one, he says in his Percy Jackson reviews that he's basically just a leftover from Dominic's previous attempts to have a storyline who he trots out for specific events.
  • Break the Haughty: Possibly. During the 30,000 Subscribers Q&A featuring him, he pulls a Suspiciously Specific Denial moment where he mentions that he definitely wasn't so broken by the Battle of Hogwarts that he hasn't taken off the robes ever since, rather he just doesn't feel like changing them. It's debatable whether this is true or not, since Terrence can be an Unreliable Narrator.
  • Canon Character All Along: Implied to be the canon character "Terry Boot."
  • Cool Shades: To cement himself as a douchebag, Terrence wears these all the time. Their coolness is somewhat undercut, though, when it's revealed that he wears them to cover up a battle scar he got at the Battle of Hogwarts.
  • Comically Missing the Point: He was near the end of Ella Enchanted before he realized it was based on Cinderella.
  • Description Cut: Frequently sings his own praises to the audience, only to cut to how that story really went down.
  • Dimensional Traveller: Researched this for the Ministry of Magic in his own universe and ends up in ours.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Terrence is a douchebag and he's from Ravenclaw.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While he's an absolute prick and a lecherous pig towards women to the point of actual sexual harassment, he is still absolutely horrified when he realizes the magical world apparently condones rape (comparing love potions to roofies), screaming that they should all be sent to Azkaban. It's such a horrifying revelation that he has to wipe his own memory of that knowledge.
    • Even a douchebag as big as Terrence can't stand Cormac McLaggen, referring to him as "The one Griffindor nobody likes."
    • When he learns that the literal creator of his world has been using her platform to spread transphobic rhetoric, he chooses to flat-out renounce his entire heritage from that world in solidarity with the people being hurt by her actions.
  • Eye Scream: It's implied that his wearing sunglasses at all times is covering up an injury he sustained at the Battle of Hogwarts.
  • Fantastic Racism: Thinks that Muggle-baiting is okay even if the Death Eaters took it too far, and openly recommends treating Hufflepuff members as though they were mentally deficient children.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: On some of the Maruader's Map scenes, look for Terrence's dot. The first time we see it, he's apparently having relations with Katie Belle, and in the next he's being chased by all of his year's Hufflepuffs, who are firing spells at him.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Of Ravenclaw House, as they openly complained about him all the time.
    • Won Hogwarts' "Most Annoying Arsehole" award for 1996.
  • Future Badass/Future Loser: Has shades of both, assuming he really is Terry Boot - on the one hand, he's implied to have been broken by the Battle of Hogwarts (on top of losing an eye to dark magic) and may have lost his wife because of it; on the other, he's mentioned as working for the Department of Mysteries as a researcher for alternate universes.
  • Handsome Lech: Thinks of himself as a universally adored ladies man, but most women seem to find him sleazy and repulsive personality-wise.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Participated in the Battle of Hogwarts, if his waking up injured at the end of it is any indication, suggesting that he is at least quite brave. It's possible he was broken by the Battle of Hogwarts, which is why he is still wearing the robes.
    • He also treats Reginald rather kindly and tells him he deserves more screentime; a far nicer sentiment than how the Dom treats the assistant.
  • Hufflepuff House: Rags on the house and its members whenever the opportunity presents itself. The only time he really praises one of them is in the "Cursed Child" review, where he states that Cedric's death was given more meaning.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: His dorm mates openly talk about how obnoxious he is in his presence.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: He ends his review of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by exclaiming he needs a drink.
  • Jerkass: He's called the Douchebag from Ravenclaw for a reason.
  • Likes Older Women: Hit on Mrs. Weasley, Professor McGonagall, and the Trolley lady from the Hogwarts Express while still in Hogwarts. He doesn't limit himself to women either, dating King Thranduil at one point.
  • Meaningful Name: His middle name is Bellerophon, a hero who became so hubristic he tried to join the gods on Olympus and was killed for his ego. Pretty fitting for a man defined by his overwhelming ego.
  • Magic Versus Science: His Escalating War with The Dom has him using spells while Dom uses conventional weaponry (including that tank he totally always had).
  • Medal of Dishonor: Recipient of the 1996 "Most Annoying Arsehole" Award. Over Cormac McLaggen.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Appears naked at one point with a black sheet covering his penis.
  • Our Mages Are Different:
    • A combination of the race, scholar, and gadget user variations. He is a half-bloodnote  (revealed in the 30k subscribers milestone Q&A), so he has magical ancestry. A scholar, as while the gift of magic is inherited education in controlling this version magic is very book heavy, and he knows that the killing curse is a mix of Latin and Aramaic. A gadget user as he has two wands to control his natural magic and an invisibility cloak (that he only uses once).
    • After renouncing his magic, he's a god variation drawing powers from his godly parent, with the ability to cut portals and wield two flaming swords.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Fixes The Dom's vision with a spell (in real life he had gotten Lasik), for apparently no other reason than to be nice for once.
    • A brief one, but in the review of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, he states he likes that it was Cedric who stopped Delphini and that it gave a greater purpose to his demise, being a Pet the Dog moment because of his treatment of Hufflepuff.
    • He apparently likes Reginald, and thinks that the Dom treats him unfairly.
  • Refugee from TV Land: He comes from a universe where the Harry Potter books actually happened. He prefers the "real" world since everyone thinking the books are fiction means he isn't breaking the International Statute of Secrecy.
  • Secret Legacy: It's eventually revealed that he's a demigod on his mother's side. His parents kept it hidden from him for years as his ego was already big enough, but since he's renounced his magic for the time being, they figured it was time to tell him.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Treats himself as a universally admired ladies man, but by all accounts, he is despised even/especially by the members of his own house.
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: Apparently all Ravenclaws know how to fix people's eyes, and he does so to the Dom in the review of the final Harry Potter film. Out of universe, this is because the Dom got Lasik eye surgery, so he no longer needs glasses. In universe, a) before that point the Dom and Terrence were trying to kill each other and so Terrence didn't want to fix the Dom's eyes, and b) Luna didn't fix Harry's eyes because she had a thing for guys with glasses.
  • Teleporters and Transporters: He returns to review Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023) by cutting a portal with a flaming sword.
  • Token Adult: He lampshades how awkward it is being at Camp Half-Blood since he learned about his heritage in his forties while all the other campers are kids or teenagers.
